Max - 19 weeks old
We got Max at 8 weeks old. He is mostly miniature schnauzer mixed with a little chihuahua. We are 19 weeks old now and he has one haircut done at home. Not the best but overall happy with the outcome for cutting hair myself for the first time. He still has all of his baby teeth, which we call him piranha, he is in such a baby biting mode and those teeth are razor sharp. Overall, we are so happy having Max in our family now. It wouldn’t be complete without him.

2024.05.18 23:50 RandomRedditUser1337 My hair is ‘healthy’ again thanks to silicones!

My hair is ‘healthy’ again thanks to silicones!
I was having trouble with my hair for years. I’d do the whole shebang: oil treatment for a few hours before washing my hair, hair wash, let the conditioner soak in the shower, put leave in on afterwards. Still my hair would never turn out like it used to. When I was younger, my hair was effortlessly soft, shiny, wavy and not frizzy. As I got older, this went away. I couldn’t figure out why.
Anyway, I finally realised a while back that I had switched to all ‘natural’ hair products years ago. Silicone free, sulphate free, paraben free, so on and so forth. Honestly, I don’t know why I did it. I wasn’t really thinking about it too much. I guess the clean beauty industry got me on this occasion…
I realised a while back that the issue was likely these ‘natural’ products I was using on my hair. Recently I finally got around to researching and buying a bunch of silicone-heavy products and swapping out all of my routine. I also swapped to a clarifying shampoo. Oh, another thing I wanted to do was make my routine cheaper! I became a full time student recently and can’t afford expensive products or hair cuts anymore.
My routine product swaps:
A’Kin Mild & Gentle Fragrance Free Shampoo 500mL ($25 AUD) > Aveeno Apple Cider Vinegar Clarifying Shampoo 354mL ($19.50 AUD but I only ever buy it on sale for $9.75 AUD)
A’Kin Mild & Gentle Fragrance Free Conditioner 500mL ($25 AUD) > Sunsilk Soft & Smooth Conditioner 700mL ($12 AUD but I only ever buy it on sale for $6 AUD)
A’Kin Moisture Rich Lavender & Anthyllis Leave-In Conditioner 150mL ($18 AUD) > L'Oreal Elvive Dream Lengths No Haircut Cream Leave In Treatment 200mL ($14 AUD but I only ever buy it on sale for $7 AUD)
Moroccanoil Original Oil Treatment ($75 AUD) > Qanzire Moroccan Hair Oil ($5 AUD) note this is just a knockoff of the real stuff, it works almost as well and for one fifteenth of the cost!
I’ve also started cutting my own hair. The last proper haircut I got was about 9 months ago ($100 AUD > $0 AUD). Since then I’ve given myself a few DIY trims. I’m not very good at it yet and don’t really know what I’m doing, and I’m using a bodgy cheap hair razor comb to do it. I know, I know, really bad, lol. I’m saving up to buy some proper, salon-grade hairdressing scissors!
Anyway, my hair is still a work in progress. I need to figure out how to properly cut my hair and I want to learn how to use heat styling tools as currently my hair is only ever air-dried and however it dries naturally is the ‘style’ I wear it in (as pictured). But overall, I’m really happy! I’m spending a lot less and my hair looks a lot better - thanks silicones :)

2024.05.17 15:26 Academic_Ad6473 I’m scared

I’m 20 male, a week ago I went to a barbershop to get a haircut. I was the only customer and after 15-20mins my haircut was done and the barber finished up by using a razor to trim my side and back of my head. It did not bleed but i feel a little pain at the back of my head, I did not see the barber changed the blade. After 4 days i have a mild fever around 37.5 to under 38*C, i felt very tired and i have a mild diarrhea that went away after two days. There were no rash or swollen lymph nodes. I went to the doctor yesterday which is the 8th day after my haircut and tested negative for HIV but i’m still scared cause it is still early. What are the chances of getting HIV from uncleaned razor and in my case specifically. Thank you everyone!

Taking a solo trip to Vegas this time would like a recommendation if there is a men's spa were I can get a haircut, straight razor shave, and massage all at the same place. Bonus points if it has a bar to have some drinks in between appointments

2024.05.16 17:50 Bog3DigitalJamboree Something you found because you tried something else first?

For a minute I tried using Smash Punches, developed by Razor Ruddock for getting through his opponent's guard. It's like a hook/uppercut hybrid. Thing is, it got me called out by my trainer for generally every good reason that you wouldn't want to use it. It leaves you very open in the wind-up and recovery period, and Razor was really the only guy to use it.
Thing is, I wouldn't do it very well. If I were in orthodox high guard, I'd let my left arm drop, almost let it go limp, and then when I felt my whole arm go straight and swing back a little I'd throw it. Never ended up doing it right, it always wound up turning into a funky hook. I did end up catching a few of my sparring partners with it though. So I dropped the Smash Punch, but I kept working on the hook.
I ended up stumbling into long hooks!
Since then I've been fine tuning it and I caught one of the best pro fighters at my gym with it, and my coach. I'm still a whelp, as far as I'm concerned, but a clean, flush hit on a dude that can dance around and dodge hits like Ali, I think that's a jump in improvement. And all because I wanted to try something I saw in an anime lol

2024.05.16 12:20 amak131 Subculture identity issue

Subculture identity issue
38y male here. Used to have long hair for the most part of my adult life. Went for a shorter haircut two years ago and noticed that my crown was thinning. I’ve had frizzy hair on top for years but didn’t connect it with MPB and the hair was so long that it covered the crown anyway. My temples were also receding but I didn’t mind that because, well I’m almost forty anyway. The crown started to affect my confidence and occupy my thoughts too much so I buzzed it and later went for a full razor shave. The shave gave a huge confidence boost and it looked ok too. The problem was and is that I am a very visual person and subculture oriented. My thing has always been the 60’s and the 70’s, rock ‘n’ roll and western vibes. With bald head it’s hard to get the vibe because of lack of “role models” so to speak. Does anyone else have the same problem? I dig the styles that work with bald head like stylish minimalism and bald & bearded tough guy vibe for example but I’m still trying to find ways to connect visually to the subcultures and the looks that I used to love. My hair ain’t that bad yet and I try to grow it back every few months for a month at a time. Then I get frustrated and shave it off again. If I had the guts and the patience to grow it back, I would, as I respect nearly every guy with long balding hair. Don’t know where this is heading, I guess I’m just torn between the options. The picture is a quick snap from work under fluorescent light and is about month of growth.

He's always been a lot taller and heavier than yorkies I always see online, however I've been realizing for a long time now that he's got a pretty broad chest and always looks stanced up and ready to fight. Could it be from him gaining weight? I've looked back at pictures from a few years ago when he was slimmer and his chest doesn't look as wide. He's gained a few pounds but doctor said he's still a healthy weight despite the "extra padding", as she says.
He's rocking lots of different funky haircuts in this post!

2024.05.15 02:49 fender1878 Two Weeks on the Sun Princess: A Comprehensive Review

In case you don't know, the Sun Princess is Princess Cruises' latest behemoth ship. I just got back from a 2-week sailing and took meticulous notes on this epic new vessel. Here's my extremely detailed, no-BS review:

The Sheer Size is Nuts

When I say this ship is massive, I mean it's absolutely nuts how big this floating city is. Especially when you get off in ports and have to walk back down the dock to reboard - that's when the sheer scale of the Sun Princess really hits you. Even though it carries a ton of people, the only time it really felt crowded was during breakfast. The Eatery fills up quick and the International Cafe, which sits outside The Eatery doesn't lend itself well for crowds of people wiaint for their coffees. You kind of end up waiting in the middle of where the walking traffic moves.

The Medallion Life

Your entire cruise experience revolves around the new Medallion wearable device and app, for better or worse. I'll admit it has some creepy "Big Brother" vibes with how much it tracks your every movement and purchase. But the convenience it provides is undeniable.
The medallion is your modern day "cruise card" that you tap everywhere to make payments, order drinks, unlock your stateroom, get on/off the ship, and more. But what's crazy is the app can use the medallion to detect your location anywhere on board. Order a drink or meal through the app and the server will manage to find you anywhere on the ship to deliver it, usually within 15 minutes. Caveat: there were times when it took longer and other times when our order was marked "delivered" and it never arrived.
The medallion definitely feels like getting on/off the ship is way faster. The only time we ever waiting in line was for the few minutes it took people to run through security.
This made getting food/drinks almost too easy. On port days when we needed to get off the ship early for excursions, setting up a scheduled delivery of my Egg McMuffin, fruit plate in coffee was really convenient.
Fair warning though - if you're anti-tracking and value privacy over convenience, the ubiquitous Medallion system may not be for you.
Story: we were sitting by the Crooners bar having our nightly pre-dinner cocktail. The bar was packed on this night for some reason. A staff member in a suit started wandering the room, made eye contact with me from 40-feet away and then made a b-line for us. He wanted to sign us up for a wine/food pairing event they were having. I have to believe this is because of the tracking being done via the meddalion. They could see we drink our share of wine. It definitely felt like targeted marketing.

Premium Package Was Best for Us

We opted for the Premium beverage package at $80 per day and I'm glad we did for a few reasons:
  1. If you need to have more than one device connected to the internet at a time, Premium makes sense just based on that (you can have four devices). The cheaper Plus package only allows one device, which was a non-starter for me needing both my phone and laptop to be online. I'm unfortunately not able to just live off the grid for almost three weeks and need to periodically check in with my clients.
  2. The wine selection is way better with Premium vs Plus. As a wine drinker, the upgrade was 100% worth it.
  3. Two free speciality dining meals are included, which was clutch on our 2-week cruise to break up the repetition of the main dining rotation.
  4. Unlimited premium desserts and ice creams - a nice perk for those with a sweet tooth.
Basically, Premium removed almost any need to think about or worry over costs on board. For $80 per day, the premium drinks, speciality dining, better wines, desserts and internet made it an easy choice for our group's needs.
And for those wondering about the 15 drink per day limit (since there's almost a weekly post asking about it) - it was never an issue for me. I'm a scotch drinker and to get a decent pour, you basically have to order a double. Even drinking doubles, I never got to 15 drinks/day. This even includes sea days where we'd typically have a mimosa or two with breakfast, a few cocktails/beers at the pool, an cocktail or two before dinner and then wine at dinner.

Staff & Service

I can't say enough about how incredible and friendly the service was across the board on the Sun Princess. Our room steward, waiters, bartenders - everyone went so above and beyond daily, it really elevated the experience. I'm always amazed how they remember everyone's names.
However, we did notice a clear slip in the quality of service in the second week compared to the first, likely due to a crew changeover partway through our sailing. Simple things like forgetting drink orders or getting meals wrong became more frequent from our new set of MDR servers.

Suites & Staterooms

We originally booked a balcony room. When the bid offer came in I followed some old advice and just placed bids on upgrades because "you don't have to take the offer if you don't like it." Well guess what, that's not the case anymore. My offer was accepted and we automatically became the proud recipients of a Reserve Mini-Suite for an additional $500. In hindsight, I'm glad it worked out. The room has noticably more space than a standard balcony room. These mini-suites are spacious, basically a separate living room and bedroom divided by a curtain you can close off. Having two TVs and an extra closet was great.
As mini-suite guests we also received a nice amenity of free premium wines in our room - on the second week they even topped us up with two more complementary bottles! I guess each week is looked at as a new sailing -- so you get two more bottles! Some older posts complained about the wine quality. It looks like it's been upgraded because we received a Pinot Noir and Chard from La Crema. Being California wine people, La Crema works great for us. If you can swing it, I'd highly recommend going for a mini-suite over a regular balcony.
That being said, I'd avoid the "Cabana" balcony suites. The layout is really bizarre and in my opinion a downgrade. When you walk out onto your balcony, it's not really a balcony. There's another area in front of your balcony that connects a few other cabana suites. The idea is that a few rooms share a private balcony with jacuzzi. However, it also means that walking out onto your balcony doesn't give you a private ocean view because there's this 20-30 feet of additional patio in front of you and everyone above you just looks down into your balcony area.
They've done a great job with the power situation in these rooms. Every outlet has a USA 110v plug, a Euro plug, a USB-C and a USB-A plug. There are outlets by the desk area and with each nightstand on both sides of the bed. Since we had ample USB outlets, all we really needed a regular USA outlet for was the blow dryer. Don't get tricked! There's what looks like a two-prong USA outlet by the sink in the bathroom. It has a funky icon next to it. This outlet is for charging an electronic razor -- that's the only kind of plug that will fit in this outlet so don't try and jam another device in there -- it won't work. My mom tripped the breaker in her state room by running the hair dryer while her curling iron was on -- so beware ladies!

Dining Highs & Lows

Main Dining Rooms

It can be confusing because there are three floors (Decks 6, 7 and 8). We reserved dining in the Deck 6 MDR prior to the trip via the app for the first few days just so we knew there was a guaranteed place to eat. On night one, the dining room manager introduced himself to us and said he went ahead and booked our table for us every night of the trip. If we didn't show, it was fine.
Food quality in the main dining rooms (MDRs) was consistently good across breakfast and dinner. On port days, it's an "express breakfast" which just means a shorter list of options. Nothing mind-blowing, but solid and tasty. My biggest gripe here is the operating hours. On sea days, the MDR closes for breakfast at 9:00am. You basically have to choose between sleeping in a little, hitting the gym, or getting a decent breakfast.
Pro-Tip: Biggest breakfast tip is stay away from the scrammbled eggs -- they're gross. We figured out that the scrambled eggs come from a bag. If you want real, cracked eggs, either get an omelett or over easy/medium/hard/etc.

Reserve Suite Dining Access

The Reserve mini-suite gives you access to the Reserve Restaurant. It's a little bit more elevated of a dining experience and reservations aren't needed -- you just show up. We dined her a few times and it did feel more elevated. Unlike the MDR, the server in the Reserve Restaurant feels more personal because they're handling smaller groups.

Lido Deck

For more casual fare, the Lido deck had some surprises like an awesome made-to-order salad bar station that became my go-to for healthier meals between all the indulgent dining. The burger grill, taco station and pizza areas were pretty standard, but that salad bar slapped.

Lackluster Buffet

On the flip side, The Eatery buffet left a lot to be desired. Despite different themed stations, the quality was mid at best. We largely avoided eating at the buffet outside of quick breakfast grabs. The Eatery closes for breakfast around 10:00 AM. At which point if you move further into the ship, the restaurants that are normall Catch and Butcherblock become a buffet extension that's opened later -- it's kind of funky.
The layout of the buffet is weird and leaves people wondering if they're cutting in line especially when you go to the extended buffet at Catch/Butcherblock.
What's odd to me is you can go grab a million cheese plates, fruit plates or hummus/veggie plates at the buffet. But if you order those things through the Medallion app, it's not "complimentary." You have to pay like $4.99-$5.99 for those items. We still can't figure out why it costs $5 to order a tiny cheese plate but ordering a cheeseburger is free.

Specialty Dining Winners

We used our two speciality dining credits at Crown Grill and Butcher's Block by Dario. I was a little worried because I had read mixed reviews on here about both of these restaurants. However, both meals were really good and before you come at me, I'm a foodie guy -- I'd tell you if they sucked.
We chose Crown for my parent's anniversay dinner. The service was awesome and they made us all feel really special. The setup here is like a steakhouse, where you order your beef and then the sides are a la carte family style. We had a group of seven -- the manager just said "we'll bring you out all the sides, enough for your whole party" which was great.
The next week, we hit up Butcher's Block by Dario. I've never left a meal more full on a cruise ship than at this place. It's family style dining and they just bring out everything for you -- almost like a brazilian barbecue place. We started with a bread appetizer and a glass of wine while you wait for them to get the dining room setup. Then there's more bread on the table + veggies. Then the food starts coming out: beef tartar; beef carpaccio; etc. The main event is the massive tomahawks and porterhouse steaks they carve up tableside. They'll just keep putting beef on your plate until you beg them to stop. Finally, there's desert and a grappa digestif.
Both restaurants were great experiences and a very welcomed change from the MDR after a week of repetition. The food, service and overall vibe were a noticeable step up.

Spellbound

We also splurged one night for the Spellbound immersive magic/dinner experience and it was easily a cruise highlight despite the $150/pp price tag. After an elevated multi-course meal, you get ushered by a guy in a top hat into an exclusive hidden club. While waiting for the magic show, you hang out in their bar which is reminiscent of the Dinseyland Haunted Mansion. While enjoying your drink, there's a magician perorming more intement magic for everyone at the bar. Once they're ready for the show, you're brought into the room where the actual magic show takes place. Afterwards, you're welcome to hang out in the Spellbound bar and continue drinking.
If you're from LA, you probably know about the Magic Castle in Hollywood. Spellbound is an extension of the Magic Castle. Just like with the Magic Castle, you show up in formal wear. This means a coat and tie for the men and an evening gown/dress for the woman.
Overall, we really enjoyed it.

Room Service

This was hit or miss for us. You fill out the paper door hangar and place it on your doorknob before heading to bed. Then you hope and pray that it will actually arrive -- which in two of our instances, it never did. Your options are also super limited. You also may or may not receive what you actually ordered. With coffee for instance, you have a choice of ordering it to-go (paper cup) or stay (actual coffe cup). We always seemed to get the opposite of what we ordered to the point where it became a running joke for us.

International Cafe

This became our goto for a lot of things: coffee, snacks, quick breakfast food (pastries, coffee cake, avodcado toast, Egg McMuffins). Werid fact though: if you order the Egg McMuffin through the app, it comes as an egg patty just like McDonalds and with cheese. When you get the one at International Cafe, it's just an over easy egg and no cheese. Why they can't just be the same is odd.

Night Owl Needs

My main dining gripe was the lack of solid late night food options for us night owls. The Eatery buffet closed at an absurd 10:30pm, leaving only spotty room service or mobile ordering as the choices if you worked up an appetite after evening activities. More robust late-night casual dining would be appreciated.

Bars & Alcohol

Overall, great selection of cocktails. All of the bars have their own little theme and different menus. The ladies I was with were consitently impressed at the quality and thought of the cocktails at each bar. They were also super impressed with the quality of the glassware being used. I must admit, everything from the rocks glasses to the martini glasses really were beautiful.
If you just want straight spirits, you have to order a double to get a normal pour (they're actually measuring out the pours). That being said, with either Plus or Premium, you'll get a good selection of top quality booze.
You gotta try really hard to hit the 15-drink max. Some days I had drinks at breakfast, during the day, lunch, before dinner, during dinner and after dinner. I never hit my max.
One thing that impressed me was staff actually being concerned about drink quality. We were having drinks at one of the bars on the Lido deck. The supervisor was upset with the bartenders because they ran out of premium liquor and hadn't requested more. He made sure to remind them that when someone orders a premium drink they get a premium liquor -- no exceptions.
You also must checkout the Good Spirits bar. There's a few times throughout the night where you watch a live cocktail demonstration. The bartenders at GS are so fun and playful -- really makes for a great vibe.

Amenities - Hits & Misses

The gym facilities on board were a bit of a disappointment, especially for a new ship. While they had a nice assortment of cardio machines, the actual weight room was laughably small with only a few pieces of strength equipment that were always monopolized. Not a deal-breaker, but an area that could be improved.
The pool areas were nicely spread out across different sections of the Lido deck. On sailing days, there was typically a band, the DJ and then a random movie on the jumbotron. The random blasting of action movies at 3pm really ruined the pool vibe and it's typically when the deck would thin out. One minute you're relaxing in the jacuzzi, the next an action movie with explosions is shaking the pool area. It made no sense and seemed tailored for a much younger crowd despite this sailing's passengers being mostly older adults.

Technology & Support

In addition to the Medallion app, the overall internet speeds on board were fast and reliable enough for me to easily stay connected for basic work needs.
The technology support via the app's live chat feature, however, was utterly useless. Any time we had issues properly being charged for drink packages or had to modify reservations, the live chat was a time-wasting nightmare. You're clearly just talking to an outsourced rep with zero actual knowledge of Princess' systems or operations. Your best bet is to go in-person to the guest services desk.

2024.05.13 06:18 cryptonomica_ for hairstylists: should i come to my appointment natural or how i usually style it?

for context, my hair texture is kinda funky. it's not super thin but not super thick, kinda middle of the road. it's also naturally curly, but in that "frizzy, no real curl pattern, no natural bunching" kinda way. like, the back of my head isn't curly, it's flat like i took a big crimper to it. i've tried all kinds of curl methods and products and whatever, and unfortunately i just don't want to wear my hair natural. weirdly, in the past year i've lost some of the curl and the frizz has calmed down a bit (medication? age? no idea) and i'm actually very happy about it, but 9 times out of 10 i either wear it clipped up or i use a heat tool.
anyway, i'm getting a haircut this week for the first time in about a year. not sure if it'll be drastic or not, depending on if the stylist /really/ wants to address the breakage (i have a blonde halo thing under with my virgin hair on top, and the blonde ends...aren't doing great)
in the past, i've come in with my hair natural and they said they wished they could see how i usually wear it. but when i've come in with it straight, another stylist was surprised by my actual hair texture (even though i told her it was curly lol). and if i end up going shorter this week, which i'm fine with, idk if they'd want it natural to see how much it might curl up without the added weight.
so should I come with my hair natural, or should I come with it straightened and styled? what's the best way for her to see what she's working with? it's a nice (...not cheap) salon in nyc so i really wanna make sure i get the best cut possible.
let me know if a pic would be helpful lol. thank you in advance!

2024.05.12 22:41 Admirable_Ad_4542 How sharp are good hair shears supposed to be ?

I've been wanting to trim my own hair for a while, and recently bought a fairly cheap pair on amazon that was recommended a few times on this sub when I looked it up
The problem is, I'm now too scared to use them as I have no idea if they are sharp enough to not damage my hair and cause more splits since I'm easily prone to them
I have seen people talk about razor sharp shears for haircuts, whereas I can touch, press and slide my fingers on mine without it cutting me at all, just like regular kitchen scissors
So please help me out, how sharp are your hair shears and how do you know they are too dull to use ?

2024.05.12 19:06 TheCelestialEquation About to take the plunge. Any advice on (electric) razors?

If I'm shaving it from now on, one of the biggest perks would be never having to pay for a haircut again. But I remember as a kid, my parents had a clipper that would often jam, pull hair and even die mid haircut, which is a horrifying thought. I don't trust my beard razor for this one.
Anyone got any online electric razor recommendations for less than $100 that last 5+ years, don't tug, cut evenly and have no chance of failing in the middle of a cut?
Also, corollary, any good tips on minimizing cleanup time? I might just end up shaving my head in the back yard, but that could come with some uncomfortable conversations with the neighbors.

2024.05.12 14:57 Aspiragus What to ask for at my (apparently yearly) cut?

What to ask for at my (apparently yearly) cut?
So at 38 I find out I'm a wavy lady. Nice! I'm about to get my first haircut since last May (whoops) and wondering what to ask for.
Layers? Feathers? Razoring? Thinning scissors? What hairdresser magic enhances the curl pattern?
My curl pattern is quite fragile so no guarantee it will even be there when I meet the hairdresser. I guess I will show them a picture of it doing its wild thing.
(Also, I have white streaks at the front and general salt-and-peppering, and those bits are making a bid for independence. Any suggestions?)
My current routine (work in progress...): Shampoo: Curlsmith Frizz Control Conditioner: Curlsmith Frizz Control Duo Every 3 days, wash and condition hair upside down, rake through Curlsmith Hold Me Softly curl balm while wet. Scrunch and air-dry. Pineapple to sleep. Curl Activator to refresh on day 2. Once a month clarify with a random sulphate-containing shampoo as it gets dull otherwise. Occasionally rinse with kombucha or ACV as my scalp likes it.

2024.05.12 13:39 SonnyGonZ0 HS washing and re-attachment frequency

My current hairpiece maintenance routine is re-attachment every 5-7 days (tape only) and washing with shampoo every 2-3 days. Going to a salon now every 4 weeks for haircut of my biohair. The HS are all either French or Swiss lace. Using argan hair oil every evening to keep it smooth and free of tangles.
This routine seems to be quite different from a lot of posts that I read here. Some of the notable statements I saw were to shampoo only once every week or even more infrequently. Also see a lot of posts with re-attachment schedules of only every 3-4 weeks.
Why do I wash, shampoo and re-attach so frequently? I live near the equator and it's hot and humid everyday. Glue and tape decomposes quickly with sweat at these temperatures and to me, it's a basic hygiene to keep the hairpiece and scalp free from funky smells. I also never have any itchiness or skin irritation since following this routine.
I can't even imagine how it would be in this climate to wear a poly-skin hairpiece for weeks, accumulating sweat below. This can't be hygienic or healthy for the skin.
So for those living in hot and humid climate, how are you dealing with sweat and tape/glue decomposing?

Hi (30f and 3A/B), I’ve been mostly a lurker for a long time, but I needed to post after my really bad haircut today.
So, a little background, I just moved to a new area and my previous amazing stylist (that helped me grow out my hair for three years and got it almost to my goal length) found a sister salon for the brand she works for in the area I now live.
Well, I had my appointment today with someone that advertised herself as a “curly specialist”. Boy, was that wrong. At the beginning of the appointment, as she was looking over my hair she first commented on the “bulk” of my hair and kind of looked annoyed with the thickness and asked if I wanted bulk removed; which I very clearly said I didn’t and that I enjoyed my hair thickness. Prior to this cut my braided ponytail was about as thick as my wrist. I told her in very specific detail that I only wanted a trim and about an inch off as I am in the military and my hair has very specific requirements that it has to fall into when pulled back for work; also, I’ve been growing it out and still intended to do so, then ends just needed a little love. I also stated that my hair could not have a lot of layers and I added that I usually wear my natural texture on the weekends.
The stylist and I SEEMED to be on the same page and then off to the shampoo and then back to the chair to start the cut. At first it seemed to be going well and then more and MORE hair fell and I couldn’t tell how much length was coming off but it didn’t seem right and she seemed to be cutting into the bulk.
Then she got to the layers, she used a straight razor on my hair to cut the layers. Then, instead of long “face-framing layers” in the front she made it pretty short to where it’ll be difficult to pull back correctly. Then she starting blow drying without adding heat protection and asked if I wanted it straight or wavy and it ended up being just flipped on the ends and when it was dry SHE CUT MORE OF MY BULK. After getting home and showering and styling it, she ended up taking about 5-6 inches off and a lot of the density and I’m just devastated.
If you’ve gotten this far, thank you.
TLDR: New “Curly stylist” I went to acted like we were on the same page and BUTCHERED my hair I’ve been growing for three years when I only wanted a trim.

2024.05.11 21:55 sadsisterwedding2024 AITA: my sister's wedding is today and there's a huge issue between my parents and I over the haircut they made me get

I'm a 24 y/o trans man. I came out to immediate family when I was 19 and haven't asked anyone to call me by my correct name/pronouns because it will upset the peace. My parents were very hurt when I came out so I don't bring it up.
There's been a pattern of my parents controllingwhat happens to my body rather than me. Antidepressants at 13. Strict diet at 14 (low carbs, low calories, stomach injections, had to eat lunch alone in the school counselor's office). I stopped seeing a stylist my mom knew personally after asking for a 'boy haircut' and the stylist wouldn't go against my mom, who was embarrassed/angry. When I asked to wear a tie with my school uniform, my dad said only if I wore makeup. I still sucked my thumb at 12, and my parents had a dentist put in a device with a grid of metal wires against the roof of my mouth; every time I'd eat, pieces would get stuck between it and the top of my mouth. To my parents' credit they had this thing taken out pretty quickly. When I was 14-ish I stopped shaving my legs, so my dad would forcibly shave them with his electric razor and threaten to take my phone away if I refused.
My sister's wedding is today. Three days ago, I got a haircut. I'd known I wanted it short, so I texted my sister to ask if she was okay with that, which she was. My mom didn't want my hair too short though, and when I went to get the cut (from another stylist she knows), she said she hoped I would respect her wishes. The stylist did what my mom had told her, not me; my mom was the customer even though it was my hair. I left with a haircut that made me feel more like an object than a person.
For that day, and the next day, I stayed in my room at my parents' house and wouldn't show my hair. I know that sounds dramatic but I've experienced disrespect towards my body for years, and this haircut was feminine, which added dysphoria on top of it. My mom was worried, but my dad was angry. He accused me of wanting to 'make a statement' (about my gender) and make my sisters' big day about me.
Yesterday my mom and I had a talk about the pattern I explained and we both felt better after. I helped her set up at the venue and she said that I could get my hair touched up a little. But when my dad found out about that, he was really mad, called me to order me not to do it, and when I turned it into a three-way call with my mom who said she was okay with it, he said he didn't care and that I wasn't allowed to get it cut again.
When he got home he made the same accusations as before. I told him about the conversation with my mom and said that after the wedding he could be brought into that, but he demanded I explain everything right then. I didn't want to because I didn't trust him to listen or respect what I said without my mom there. I wouldn't get into it, and tried to tell him we should just make today about my sister, but he was disgusted with me and told me not to even bother coming to the wedding.
Am I the asshole?

How do inmates get haircuts and shaves? Is there a prison barber? I'm assuming they aren't allowed razors and whatnot

Hair splitting at weird spots, hooking onto fabric
Came back from a haircut, have been with this hairstylist for 3 years and have always gotten shaggy, razor cuts, but I've never had this problem before. Isolated the hooking and found these split ends, I've been going in with hair oils like olaplex 7, no heat drying, 1cold shower, and it's the day after the cut. Is this just a "fresh cut" problem, a hair-health pre-cut problem or a cut problem, something else? Will it go away or am I cooked?

2024.05.09 03:32 CapAccomplished8072 RWBY Fans talk about what makes RWBY enjoyable for the FNDM.

I want to take a moment to thank the RWBY Fandom for coming together on post www.tumblr.com/iamafanofcartoons/714857308133441536/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
And discussing why RWBY was an enjoyable show for each of them. Everyone here had a fantastic reason, and I am grateful to each of you!
Hmvw2015: For me, RWBY filled the void left behind by Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. It’s one of the few shows I’ve seen (aside from Adventure Time) that grows up with its audience. The fight scenes are so incredible! They’re lightening fast I would have to rewatch the same episode at least twice or thrice! Easily rivaling those done by Studios Gainax or TRIGGER, or Titmouse. Since every character, place, and object have connections to fairy tales, mythologies, folklore, and classic novels, it did a great job portraying them to their root inspirations. Plus, I’m always digging deep into their designs and backstories. The music is almost top tier to the music from the Disney Renaissance Era. Maybe even better than that. The songs add another layer of foreshadowing for the characters, and they’re fun to listen to~! It tackles issues like self-worth, abuse, and death. The series basically screams “Women’s Rights” and “Gay Rights” and proud of it. :D www.tumblr.com/hmvw2015/715987868852666368/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Ammy246: I've always enjoyed the characters, and I like how there are 4 badass female protagonists who are each enjoyable to watch. I also like how the villains are actually threatening, so the heroes have to put effort into earning victories unlike many works of fiction. The animation always excites me, because you never know what you're going to get. And, don't even get me started on the amazing soundtrack.
Cinnamonrollfuckhead: it tickles all the right things about me. i got in trouble for reading in classes when i finished my work early at school, it was nearly always history or mythology. i was an ancient Egypt kid. i read outside my age group. if Snapple wanted to employ me to write factoids for their caps i would take it. i was hooked on RWBY immediately despite being older than any of the main characters. i found an unlikely character to relate to in Jaune. i loved how it balanced serious and goofy themes.
Satoshi-mochida: Some stuff I like about the show is that it's pretty fun and entertaining to watch, has constantly improving writing and animation(the CRWBY recognizing ACTUAL criticism, and working on those), with smarter and deeper than some may think moments, well-done characters, great music and songs, and probably more. I even cosplayed as Jaune(and the 'HuntsMan' with a Wonder-Zwei plush)with my then-girlfriend before COVID hit and other stuff happened, and enjoyed doing that.
Haunted-meatsack: I'm waaaaay behind but I started watching for the fight choreography, music, and battle skirts. Plus I'm a sucker for small girls who kick ass with GIANT weapons. Then the story and characters kept me coming. I need to catch up.
www.tumblr.com/haunted-meatsack/715895495101497344/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Bumblebyfan: I like RWBY due to a lot of reasons, for starters, the relationships between the main characters, and how they constantly help each other, I also really like the whole fantasy setting and how funny it is at times, I also really liked how they handled Ruby’s arc during season 9, as someone who has had... intrusive thoughts
www.tumblr.com/bumblebyfan/715730749688561664/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
XLBINGO10: one thing that i particularly like about rwby is that the characters aren't dumbasses. i feel like so often in shows i watch there's an episode conflict where the characters make an obviously terrible plan that will clearly backfire horribly just for the sake of the episode plot and it's always painful to watch, so it's really nice to watch a show where that doesn't happen.
www.tumblr.com/xlbingo10/715707865708527616/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable.
Sir-Somewhat: I love the cast. I honestly can't say there is a character I am not fond of in some way and that includes the villians. I love the idea of semblances and the faunus. Also I want more faunus lore. Given the existence of the Ever After I have to wonder if the Faunus came from another world created by the Brothers.
www.tumblr.com/sir-somewhat/715323283721076736/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Ghost-of-Sparda: Rwby was a show I found in college that I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy, but as I watched it- I found myself completely enthralled in the world created by Monty Oum and his friends. It’s story has me on the edge of my seat every episode, and it’s anime vibes make it a treat to watch. It’s not perfect, I will admit that- and there have been times where I didn’t agree with a direction of story telling at first. However there hasn’t been a show that gets me as excited as RWBY does since I was a kid. If you grew up watching anime, or grew up watching anime- I’d give RWBY a go. If you are still not over the Owl House/ She-Ra/ ATLA/ LOK/ Naruto/ or any other amazing series with crazy fights and an amazing story: I recommend Rwby as your next obsession. And if you want to give anime a try, but are still dipping your toes into the medium- Rwby is a good half way point for newcomers.
www.tumblr.com/ghost-of-sparda/715237926532956160/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Aspiringwarriorlibrarian: I really like the characters and their arcs, tragic villains, the triumph of hope and healing, and the fantasy elements.
www.tumblr.com/aspiringwarriorlibrarian/715056039519830016/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Miki-13: I love how they use fairy tales and myths as inspiration but execute them in really interesting ways, as well as how human and grounded everyone feels while inside such a fantastic setting.
www.tumblr.com/miki-13/715136165044469760/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Thatringboy: For the same reasons above, I’m also in love with the complex motivations behind the antagonists. Mercury hated the world and needed an enabler, Emerald needed security, Cinder snapped after a lifetime of abuse (just like Mercury), Hazel wanted revenge, Lionhart wanted to save himself, Raven wanted to save herself, Tyrian is just insane (based), Watts wanted petty revenge, Neo wanted revenge but doesn’t know what to do afterwards, CC wants to fulfill their cruel purpose, and Salem just wants to finally die. Torchwick was a comical villain who posed a dangerous threat, the Malachite sisters were doing their jobs, Ironwood was a victim of his own paranoia, Cardin was just racist, Cordovin worships her superiors, the Fennec brothers too, Adam wanted total control over everything and everyone in his life and would stop at nothing to get it, Ilia believed in a cause, Tock was following orders, it’s all so varied and exciting!!
www.tumblr.com/thatringboy/715138435689676800/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Pyrokinetic-murder-hobo: I honestly fell in love with this project immediately back when the red trailer was first introduced to me. Though the animation for RWBY was simple and understandably a lot of people regard it as not the best. Even V1 and the original 4 trailers had a living soul to me and there was a certain charm to the characters and the animation. What kept me coming back is I find myself being unable to predict where the show will go and it honestly keeps me drawn in that my thoughts and predictions are completely circumvented. The show doesn’t follow the trajectory of really any other media and Monty navigated it masterfully. There’s so many relatable characters and the situations they are put in are approached not perfectly but in a human way as to be a human (even if you have copious amounts of power) means you’ll definitely trip up. But simply put I’ve loved this project since the beginning with the 4 trailers and could write a dissertation on why I love this show and include a long list of different things I love ranging from OST to characters to design animation. But maybe a talk for another day And it made me some awesome friends on tumblr of course too which is a major plus (you better know who you are lol)
https://www.tumblr.com/pyrokinetic-murder-hobo/715072709057478656/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
iamafanofcartoons: For me, RWBY is a change of pace. It allows for women to be shown as independent characters, just as smart and strong as male ones. It doesn’t use fanservice , you don’t have internal monologuing during fight scenes, you don’t have people screaming random attack names, and the music and designs are great. I appreciate the humor, its not toilet humor or degrading humor like a lot of anime. It also tackles difficult themes like abuse, leadership, morality, and debate. It also takes the white male savior trope so common in the fanfics that people use to promote their OCs, and takes a giant dump on that garbage. If anything, when people say “the fanfics are better than the show” you’ll see them promoting a white male savior trope above all else. Finally? Its a pro-LGBT show on many aspects, which amusingly infuriates a lot of straight shippers who defend their straight white male character who they put on a pedestal.
www.tumblr.com/iamafanofcartoons/715040015347040256/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Grimmgrinningghouls: for me RWBY is a comfort It has been for 10 years I literally would not be who I am today without this show I'd probably still be a closeted lesbian living in a conservative household with an abusive father and a mother who hated me hell I may not even be here But instead I'm living across the world from them and I'm okay As okay as I can be Its helped me through so much and its introduced me to people I have become life long friends with These funky little lesbians are part of my life and they will be till the day I die
www.tumblr.com/grimmgrinningghouls/715064091163721728/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Snowqueenofmyheart: Agreed to the above, as well as being able to enjoy a story that centers women in a way that doesn’t reduce them to simplistic tropes or fanservice. I’ve been looking for more female-centered material over the last several years, and stumbling upon RWBY turned out to be a real joy in that regard. Across the board, you have so many compelling female characters, heroes and villains alike. Not to mention two main characters being explicitly in a queer romance is a delight and a relief. www.tumblr.com/snowqueenofmyheart/715058819349233664/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Youraveragecatastrophe: well first i love fantasy so we're off to a good start between the monsters heroes and magic the characters are a very strong point of this show. they're well fleshed out (even many secondary characters including villains and despite the big cast!) and they get the opportunity to develop and evolve i love the themes! love and hope and caring about each other and all that the fights are really fun to watch especially with the unique weapons and everyone's different fighting style the story is really compelling and well written too! also gayness. can't forget the queerness really this show has everything
www.tumblr.com/youraveragecatastrophe/715058708953071616/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Foulfirerebel: The music was what first made me get interested in RWBY. The hard hitting rock that also carried quite a bit of meaning into it if you truly took a moment to listen to the lyrics. So, from there I watched V1 at a friend's house and felt it was good. It did a good job with the action scenes, and setting things up for the characters. Volume 2, however, is where I truly fell in love with the show. The appearance of Cinder, of Ironwood, the food fight, the investigation into Torchwick and the White Fang, the dance and hacking sequence! Everything pointed to something more going on. Something hidden waiting to spring forth! V1 was a great entry point, V2 convinced me to stay and hooked me, and when I finally marathoned V3 I was EAGER to watch V4 and onward. Any and all quibbles I may have had melted away when the Fall of Beacon happened. So, long story short, I love the story. I love how things are built up and come back further down the line (Jaune's issues, Ruby's issues, etc.). I love how the characters do go through a lot and need help getting back up. I love how sincere and earnest everything is without a hint of irony. I love the slow burn relationships, and that the show doesn't end with those relationships just being established. I love that, despite everything, this one little indie show has continued going past everything that's happened in a decade since it started. I love that the story is engaging, the characters are deep, the writing is great, and that I'm even feeling bad for the villains which I don't normally do. RWBY may not be the most perfect thing ever, but frankly I love that the writers do see and incorporate feedback into their work. I love that, unlike how Halo or Star Wars do things, you don't necessarily need to have read all the side content to understand things too. Most of all is I love how this show has improved on every level: animation, writing, voice acting, etc. It's just so refreshing. It's the Little Engine that Could continuing onward and getting better as it goes. And hey, being a Bumbleby shipper since V3 and being vindicated in V9? Cherry on the sundae. It's been a wild ride, and I'd love it to continue.
www.tumblr.com/foulfirerebel/714989613562904576/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Maor-Koren: RWBY is one of my favorite shows, it take a unique concept and make it very enjoyable to watch. The main and side characters are all unique in their own way and very enjoyable. The story is really good. The animation, fight scenes and the design of the characters and places are all very pleasing to the eye. And the music is phenomenal. Don’t let other people make your opinion! look at the show and see for yourself if you like it or not!
www.tumblr.com/maor-koren/714954350873788416/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
But-a-humble-goon: Rwby is, in a word, earnest. Its characters are unashamedly sincere, affectionate and vulnerable and the show understands not only that these things are not a weakness but that there can be no greater measure of strength. It’s a story overflowing with heart that categorically rejects stoicism and nihilism and never once apologises for itself. Nothing has ever hit me harder and I do mean that.
www.tumblr.com/but-a-humble-goon/714953671346176000/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
mikey-polo420: I watched RWBY Because i was drawn in by the trailers when Monty was alive and i liked the idea of cute girls fighting monsters with giant weapons, then i wanted to see their journey through beacon and now i've become invested with the Messages of hope the show presents, i love each of my precious children and want to see them achieve their happiness , i want to support RWBY to it's conclusion because that's what Monty wanted, it's what his friends wanted and they deserve to complete his Brain child.
www.tumblr.com/mikey-polo420/714951464721743872/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
mooninoir: i started watching when vol. 1 was still going, with a fansub (!) working hell and back to translate each episode as they came out. i remember waiting every week to see a new episode, and when the last episodes came, i was entirely invested in this sci-fi fantasy series with fairytale elements and wanted to know what would happen next. and, for me, it's an endearing series that i enjoy watching, even with its flaws. it's fun, but it also has a heart. i like how it didn't shy away from telling a broader story. vol. 3's gut-wrenching finale was for me what made me realize i was not there just for the amazing fights and cool soundtrack, but for the characters and how they live in this crazy world. it was amazing to watch its worldbuilding evolve to such great lengths and see the characters i like to grow and learn and evolve along with it. they are done well and don't feel misplaced in the narrative. it just flows nicely and i guess the latest volume proved that to me (the themes, the motifs, the characters' choices, and the visuals) everything comes together, y'know? and i just... like it. i like rwby. i really do.
www.tumblr.com/mooninoi714949733681102848/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Tumblingxelian: Why do you watch this show? I watch RWBY for the cool characters, interesting setting and engaging overarching story and arcs, plus some gorgeous animation, sets and awesome music. What makes it appeal to you? Women, including queer women, are center stage and given tons of dynamic personality, agency and exploration in ways I rarely see done in other series.
www.tumblr.com/tumblingxelian/714943623381303296/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
feifiefofum: look, the ad on the tin was cute girls doing violent things and looking great while doing it. that was the impetus for me to follow the show, i was there when it started with the famous red trailer to yellow trailer. the writing then wasn't bad, a bit condensed because, y'know, shoestring budget so everything was very tight time wise. but y'know, you didn't watch the four trailers and get sold on the story- which was good by the by, but it wasn't exceptional. it was by the numbers, hitting what they need to hit, but good. you didn't think it was spectacular. but then volume 3 hits you out of nowhere, and you realize, oh, the writing is phenomenal actually. rwby has deceptively good writing that on the surface is good par for the course that lulls you into complacency, and then manages to sideswipe you with incredible twists that you don't see, but on looking back, the seeds for the twist were planted from book 1 on. the world is slowly and meticulously rolled out to the viewer, the characters shine, and the action, while still spectacular, become secondary to the characters and the world. i started watching rwby, expecting cute girls doing violent things. and they deliver on that, and if you come watch rwby just for that, it delivers that. i didn't come in for hearty world building, intrigue, and lore so deep you can get lost in it. the writers write on a razor's edge, giving enough lore for a backdrop and setting the stage, but if you decide to dig at any trail, you can get lost in it. the concept of dust, the name of the world itself- frankly i think it's a masterclass in giving enough to keep the story going but having enough in the back that every new twist that they lay out can be found to have grown from a seed that was planted in an earlier volume. i dunno who traded their soul away to keep track of all that world building and lore, but that excel sheet must be something to behold. rwby throws u-turns that you don't expect at you, lulls you with a sense of 'okay, i see your tricks now' and somehow manages to turn you around again, and have it make sense. frankly, it's a little frustrating, i've been bamboozled and led by the nose. and i love it for that. i'm delighted by the ride i'm on, and i hope the show keeps going.
www.tumblr.com/feifiefofum/714920887601790976/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
aspennntree: I watch rwby for several reasons- mostly for the characters, i find some of them really relatable also i just genuinely enjoy the story and the visuals and find the show very comforting i also like the people i’ve met in this community that are kind and i like having people to share my interests with i’ve made many new friends being in this community and it’s something i’m very passionate about, i just really enjoy it genuinely
www.tumblr.com/aspennntree/714906439613906944/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Tokufan400: Even with everything, I can't bring myself to stop watching RWBY. I got back into it after talking with some friends in highschool, and I've been doing my best to keep up with it since. I have love for the characters (Weiss is the best), and I do feel a sence of amazement that a western project like this ha s grown so much. Not to mention the amount of art, comics, manga, and fanfics that have spawned from the show. Do I have problems with RWBY? Yes. I will probably never stop ranting about something the show does to tick me off. But I do the same for Star Vs and Kamen Rider Zero One, both shows I still hold a love for. Hell, I might do the same for Amphibia and Owl House down the line if I do a re watch. So yeah, still love RWBY and I want to be around to see how this story ends.
www.tumblr.com/tokufan400/714910475313446912/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Howlingday: So, I was in high school and I was watching Red VS Blue. Then I started watching Rage Quit. Then Achievement Hunter. Play Pals. Then my sister and my high school crush were like, hey, try out RWBY. I mocked them by saying "It should be Ar-Dubyoo-Bee-Why". Then I got into it and, well, I liked it the more I got into it until I was caught up to Volume 2. Then Death Battle had the Yang VS Tifa fight (PLEASE, NO REMATCH), and I was rooting for Yang. Then I saw Volume 3, and I was shocked, dismayed, and devastated at the sudden heel turn. I've been hooked ever since. So, to answer your questions. I watch RWBY because it's fun, and I want to know where the story goes. I loved the fun had at Beacon, and I want to know what happens next. The appeal comes from the desire to see these group of friends fight to save the world from the Grimm. I want to see them thrive against a world where everything is stacked against them! And I want to see them flying kick someone in the face to the sound of the most amazing butt-rock since Crush 40 Sonic (No offense MGR)! So, yeah, I love watching RWBY because it's a story to be told. And I'm going to openly sob when the story finally comes to an end.
www.tumblr.com/howlingday/714865441082851328/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Gorillageek27: i watch because, okay i was kinda turned off by it at first, just "what is this anime shit?", but i watched it and it's the most out there animated thing i can think like. Rwby is a show that somehow got me appreicating animated projects and you can tell the writers and animators have fun with it.

lithominium: Its endearing, the lack of amazing animation in vol 1-3 is made up for in how much love was put into it. The characters are fun and loveable and the writing is goofy but unlike some other media ive watched its very good at knowing when to keep the tone consistent. Its very gay and i love gay and its got one of the greatest slow burns ive ever seen with great payoffs which always happen when they should. I like the setting and the lore and the weapons and the semblances. Its such a good show

Everafterfrisk: I love RWBY for a ton of reasons but to keep it short: • The Facial Expressions of the characters match really well with the tones of each scene • Amazing character designs that can just tell you so much about them before you get to know them •The animation: RWBY imo is best 3D animated series, most of the time 3D animes tend to be stiff and lifeless But RWBY gives its fights alot of finesse and creativity to go along with Like here's a few examples:
(V9) Weiss and Blake using gambol shroud's blade to propel Yang while simultaneously having Yang use Arma Gigas's Sword www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9RQnk7Oueo
(V3) Yang closing Flynt's Trumpet making his quartet backfire on him www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLu3_LKG_A8
(V4 Short) Ruby using the recoil of her weapon to bounce out of the way from a Grimm and trip him up using her Scythe catching him into a Hurricane formed by her semblance (13:54) www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivns4_clQ_c
There's even a full in depth analysis on the fight choreography from the earlier volumes to check out www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMQfm0RsY6o • Themes of Unity,Self identity,Acceptance,Loving oneself, Finding hope in the most dreadful scenarios and the list goes on • The Protagonist Ruby Rose is a breath of fresh air similar to say Deku from BNHA where both know the world isn't exactly kind but still try to help the best they can; even if it results in them destroying themselves to get there as their series's goes on •The Villains are all pretty realistic in their motivations being not afraid to fall victim to arrogance while simultaneously being victims of either the world's actions or their own °The show doesn't swindle you into thinking that just cuz they have sympathetic backgrounds that they're immediately good They have to work for it and atone for misdeeds such as Ilia,Emerald and Hazel or doesn't believe their actions are unwarranted like Salem and Cinder or has a lack of empathy for the world around them like Mercury or Tyrian or Wants to do the right thing but lets the ends justify their means(Ironwood) or Living only on the fear of your actions(Lionheart) or The world has dealt so much injustice to you that you felt giving it by ten thousand fold would remedy it ( Ilia and Adam)
▪︎ The Music is just PEAK for me The Sound design, everything just speaks volumes of the scene www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLS4HvQ5BP-1gKp4Ou4PRkqdEDvnNqdTGS

Blakistan: I think RWBY was first suggested to be me on the grounds of “lots of really cool fights” which, while not ultimately the point of the show is still a big plus! Monty was an absolute wizard when it came to fight choreography and CRWBY has done a fantastic job keeping up that legacy. Ofc that was only the thing that got me to look at the show in the first place - what made me stay was the incredibly well done character-driven story. Following along and exploring the arcs of all the different characters in the show helped me through tough times and shaped a lot of who I am as a person today - Blake and Weiss’ stories in particular did so much in helping me find hope that I could grow as a person because that what the show is: hope. So uh yeah, if you like deep, interwoven character narratives that don’t shy away from growth, change, or the ugliness that sometimes crops up along the way with those things, definitely give RWBY a watch www.tumblr.com/blakistan/714867196992585728/lets-talk-about-what-makes-rwby-good-or-enjoyable
Well....point is? There's so many reasons to love RWBY

2024.05.09 01:22 Arctucrus Boomer believes anything he's told that he enjoys

Lemme preface this with a quick note to the mods to please remove this post if it doesn't fit.
So, for context, I live in New England. I saw .y barber today. He's a boomer! He's pretty cool, though. He's retired, works more or less whenever he feels like it, only takes clients by appointment, takes a week off like every 2 months to go on some insane trip, and keeps things simple. He just upped his prices to $25 for a haircut and shave, which, where I live, is properly fucking amazing.
He's more of a lukewarm boomer, to be clear; Overall, dude's pretty cool. Definitely a bit of a boomer but one of the more harmless ones. He doesn't say or believe wildly racist, or sexist, or homophobic shit. At most I could see him being the "Fuck whoever you wanna fuck so long as I don't have to see it" type, y'know?
But he's squarely got some of the more harmless but very prototypical boomer qualities. And today was fucking quintessential.
Me: Been on any cool trips since last I saw you?
Him: Nah, Monday! Monday I leave for London.
Me: Cool! Ever been?
Him: First time! Trying to learn this phrase, apparently it's a light profanity. Cheeky bugger! Like calling someone an "asshole" here, y'know? Apparently that's light profanity over there! Cheeky bugger!
Me: Know what's light profanity in Australia?
Him: What?
Me: Cunt.
He wasn't expecting that, laughed hard, and after a minute or so I said --
Me: My other favorite thing about Aussies is this idiom they have. I read it once and immediately added it to my vocabulary, then whipped it out at one of my close friends the other day and she needed a minute.
It means "Let's stop wasting time and get down to business."
Him: What is it?
Me: "We're not here to fuck spiders!"
He put down the razor mid-shave, picked up his cellphone, and immediately dialed his buddy to tell him "this amazing new Australian saying I just learned!" He was cackling and spent the rest of the appointment repeating it and emphasizing how he had to work that into his vocabulary.
Walking out, it just struck me how readily and easily he accepts any information he's presented with that doesn't explicitly challenge his worldview and reality as fact. Believe you me there've been a time or two he's pushed back on something because it challenged him, but as long as he's not challenged? He'll accept it at face value, immediately. No critical thinking! I even told him to google it to verify, but he didn't. He went straight to sharing it.
I have to imagine wherever he got "cheeky bugger" from was the same. Just, no serious effort to make sure he's learning something factual! He's harmless and a pretty unserious person just enjoying life as best he can, and I still like him, but damn, to live that way. Quintessential boomer! 😂
P.S. Bonus round --
As I was walking out, he says, "Thanks for stopping by, you cheeky bugger!" So I throw back, smiling, "Thanks for the adequate haircut & shave, cunt!" He cackled. See you next month, Bob!
