2024.05.19 09:50 Vampgirl87 My sister: The pick me girl

Key: for later in the story Older sister: Horse Younger sister: llama Me: Bunny My wife: Fox Creepy boyfriend: Leech
Anybody who has more than one kid in the family knows that one of them is a "pick me" child. Well I have one, my older sister. How do I describe her, you know the Pokemon Ditto? Yes just like that, a purple blob that mimics any Pokemon, she mimics anyone. She made my life a living hell. Get ready Reddit it's a long one. I will have to break this up into multiple parts.
Let's start with my childhood/teen years. So my older sister is a couple years older than me and our dad was married to her mom. Anyway our dad ends the marriage when he finds out her mother was cheating on him. A little bit after that my mom and dad got together and well ....they got married and then I was born. A couple of years later my little sister was born. My older sister's mom pretty much screwed my parents and had to take her every other week. God I hated those weekends because we had to do everything she wanted, buy the food that she could only eat, watch only what she wanted to watch, and she made my sister and I her own personal Barbie dolls. When I say personal Barbie dolls, she wanted to be a hairdresser when she was older and practice on us. She thought that she could get better -newsflash! -she didn't. One time she wanted to put curls in my hair so I let her when the curls came out I looked like bloody Shirley Temple. 😤
Adult years: It only got worse as we grew into adults. For some reason my older and younger sisters had competition between each other, which left me in the dark and that was okay, I was too weird for them. At this point I had gone through my own demons. Anyway, we are all "adults" The older sister still acts like she never grew up. In 2016, all hell broke loose my older sister got into sell mlms (yuck!). The only reason why she said that she got into selling mlms is because she was helping her friends, hmm yea no just wanted to be a part of a group. She was selling herbal life, a weight loss program, now she did lose the weight while on this program, but she didn't stick to it. Also at this time she was married to her husband of eight years. She then met her current boyfriend when her family moved to another town. After that her and the husband split up. Now reader ,I never said they got legally divorce so they are still married to this day while she is with another guy. In 2017, I met my lovely wife on Facebook. We had a long distance relationship for a 1.5 years. In 2018 they came over to the states and asked me to marry them and of course I said yes!! They came back over in early 2019 because we had an event plan and while they were here we had a big family dinner. Oh goodie, I would rather go to church then do this dinner. The day of the family dinner comes up and everyone is happy to meet my fiancee, Fox. Well let's get on with dinner. The whole family went and sat down, and even before we started eating, Horse insisted on saying a prayer, now I was raised Christian, but I am pagan and so is my fiancee. After that we went to the all you can eat buffet. Now my mom can't have the buffet because she has a seafood allergy (understandable) ,but Horse and Leech didn't go to the buffet because and I quote, " Oh Leech doesn't eat seafood and neither do I." In my brain I am "What?!? since when?!?" That was a lie 🤥!! She used to eat a pound of shrimp when we were the kids. As we were eating, we were talking to each other, Llama asked me, "Bunny where are you guys going to get married", and I explained that I was going to move to Ireland, (where I live now) and we are going to get married at the register office and later on we are...then Horse butt in and said, "Leech and I are getting married at the lake" All of sudden both Llama and I said,l: "Aren't you still married?!" That shut her up. Yes my reader she never got divorced , so legally she is still married. After that I finally got to say what I was going to say, "Going to have a vow renewal at Ren fest in Kansas City later on down the line." All of a sudden Horse said: "Oh there is no way Leech and I can go because Leech is a convicted CP." In my mind:" Wtf, you are my sister and you are picking a guy over my vow renewal ?!? After that , I lost all my respect for her. Like they say like mother like daughter. Would you like a part 2. Let me know!!! Thanks!!

2024.05.19 09:15 Agneus [Online] [5e] [18+] [GMT+1] Virtues of Essence - Roleplay Focused Mystery and Lore Driven Forgotten Realms Campaign seeking a replacement player

“What defines virtue and how are we to gauge it? An inquiry that reverberates through epochs, its answer as fickle and capricious as the fates of those who deem to ask it. Duty, honor, justice - many over the ages would name these virtues, the conduits through which noble intentions find expression. Yet, as the battlefield of beliefs unfolds, a legion emerges, each as sworn to these principles as to obliterating all who would dare stake alike claim. Thus, battles rage and wars are waged and, in the end, those who are left are no more right than those fell by the blade. Alas, it is the victors whose ideals are etched into monuments for posterity. Except even words chiseled in unyielding stone are fated to fade in time. So is the wicked cycle destined to repeat in all its futility, its ephemeral prize seized again, only to be lost and sought anew. Try and picture, if for but a moment, a world where our rulers paused to reflect on the lessons of yore. They, too, would discern the elixir that enables one to escape the confines of memory—the very burden our fleeting nature forbids us to carry. Progress and evolution. Adaptability and transcendence. Everlasting and yet not stagnant, irrefutable, and yet fluid, these are the only true virtues. Thus, must we ever venture into the uncharted and unfamiliar for only from these unexplored domains may the truly virtuous arise.”
Where: Discord (Video and Voice) + FoundryVTT
When: every Saturday 5 - 9/10 pm GMT+1 (CET), 11 am - 3/4 pm EST
Who: party of 4 players and a DM seeking one extra player
Updates: Recruitment updates will be posted here.
Hello there and well met! If you’ve made it past the flavor text (or skipped it) and through the basic info (hopefully didnt skip past that one) you might very well be at the right address! Without further ado onto the post.

🐲The campaign🐲

Having only just recovered from the Second Sundering and the War of the Silver Marches, the North had been ravaged by a whole new set of tumultuous events - the rise of the Cult of the Dragon and that of the Absolute, the Fall of Eltruel and the short reign of the beholder crime lord Xanathar just some among them. After a brief respite from the twisted and the unnatural the clouds once more begin to gather. Along the Long Road, whole hosts of wild beasts and monsters have been accosting travelers seemingly at random and in the grand metropolis of Waterdeep a sudden rise in crime seems to coincide with strange events passing unnoticed beneath the surface. Amidst all this, in spring of 1493 DR, a party of adventurers delves into a mystery of enchanted gemstones being utilized to nefarious ends by unknown perpetrators all the while navigating the labyrinthine twists of city faction politics.
As implied by the post title, this is an ongoing campaign (we are 12 sessions in at the time of this post). Due to some irl commitments weve recently dropped a player and are looking to replace them.
As the title suggests, this is a roleplay focused mystery/lore driven campaign. Expect an overreaching plot with ample secrets to uncover, conspiracies to unravel and eldritch truths to unearth. The first word of the password is "Doth". On the same level of importance or more important even be that the players preference, there is a variety of subplots to engage with, from small and goofy and random to ones rivaling the main story arc in complexity and variance. Among these, individual character story arcs play a leading role, at times seamlessly intertwined with the current focus of the party, at times separate and independent.
As was already mentioned and is further described below, this is a roleplay focused campaign and a roleplay heavy game. This means that roleplay exists as a unifying concept for all other aspects of the game including exploration, combat, and puzzles. That said DnD is only DnD with all three of its main pillars intact and this campaign is no exception in that regard. I very much enjoy the mechanical side of the game as well besides roleplay and so things like multiphase boss fights and custom magic items are definitely on the table.

🧙‍♂️The DM🧙‍♂️

Hello there, Jay here, 25 yo law student from Central Europe currently working on finishing his master’s degree, trying to stay afloat in the current lease market. I study and work in a law firm by day and DM or play DnD by night (more like evening but night sounded cooler). I have been a big fan of TTRPGs since my early teens and of online DnD for the past five years. I’ve DMed multiple campaigns, finished CoS not least among them and I currently play in a long-term campaign. Before you ask, yes, my schedule is strained but not to the point I am unable to engage with my hobbies.
I would describe my DMing style as driven, realistic, and involved but also very conscious about player agency and collaborative storytelling as core values that make TTRPGs so popular and unique. I spend a lot of time ensuring the worlds I create and the stories I want to tell feel alive. From hand-picked music, to fully voiced NPCs and scenic descriptions designed to breathe life into the campaign setting I daresay my games rival in quality those of the professional DMs that charge for each session.
There is a drawback to this all however. Second word of the password is "thy". I expect a lot from my players as well. Writing a story in DnD is not a one person job. It takes a collective effort of the entire group to create something truly unique, something that one can be proud while looking forward to each session. Unwinding and letting off steam means something else for everyone. For me it means losing myself in the creative process of roleplaying an NPC or describing a scene, watching my players masterfully portray their own characters or having the party derail my plans in an awesome unforeseen and unexpectedly enriching way. If you find yourself in any of what I just described than this may be a game for you. If you don’t, that’s fine. This is definitely not a game for everyone.

🏰The setting🏰

Forgotten Realms is a default setting of Dungeons and Dragons but it is anything but boring and mundane. With now decades worth of lore behind it, it offers an unparalleled opportunity for anyone wanting to build on solid foundations to bring their ideas to life. While it has garnered a lot of attention lately with the release of a certain videogame (more people now know Astarion than a good amount of Hollywood celebrities I’d say) it has had its loyal following even before then, being constantly expanded and living its own life in a host of both online and home games. It’s been a natural choice of mine for a while now and not once have I had any regrets. The third word of the password is "mirror". I feel with how great of a variety of content the Forgotten Realms offer everybody is able to pick something that suits their creative vision. In summary the Forgotten Realms almost feel like a real place with how much worldbuilding has been done with them and offer a diversity of content few other TTRPG settings can boast.
When it comes to setting of the campaign in the world of Faerun I have once again made a somewhat traditional pick and decided to place the onset of the game onto the Sword Coast, more precisely into the city of Waterdeep. If one of the key upsides of Forgotten Realms is diversity of content, Waterdeep is one of the best representations of this. Being the largest settlement on the known Faerun, Waterdeep offers nigh limitless options in terms of main story arc genre, character creation and character backstory implementation. It has everything every large TTRPG settlement ought to have (fickle upper class, enigmatic factions, quaint taverns and extravagant nightclubs, always in bad mood city watch, a castle and a harbor) as well as few pretty original ideas such as colossal definitely not alive statues, a city council where even its members don’t know each other’s identity and a massive dungeon right underneath the city where you can literally fall right from a tavern taproom.
In case you are wondering, while this campagn takes place primarily in the city of Waterdeep itself, there is nothing stopping the players from exploring past the city if they so choose. The final word of the password is "crack?". Different parts of the main plot and various subplots can and will encourage the party to explore Waterdeep environs and sometimes even further.

📃The requirements📃

No exceptions here. Unless otherwise stated, the requirements must be met at the time of application.

🙋‍♂️How to sign up🙋‍♀️

Youve made it all the way to the end of this long post. Congratulations. Or maybe you’ve skipped all the way to the end. In that case I strongly recommended you go back. If not to learn what you are applying for than to make sure you haven’t missed something very important. Now if you are confident that you have what it takes and that this is a game that you could have a lot of fun with, please fill the below attached google questionnaire (if for any strange reason the link doesn’t end up working, please let me know in the comments under this post) and if fortune favors you, I shall get back to you promptly. Best of luck to you and I hope to speak to you soon!
https://forms.gle/5kc4RbwavJPfT8PD9
______________________________________
PS: As a part of the questionnaire, you will be asked to submit a short piece of your narrative writing in a form of a google doc link (not a custom piece of writing, any relevant past one you have will do). Maybe best have that ready beforehand? On that note, dont apply for the game with a detailed backstory of a character you want to play that you arent willing to adapt to the conditions of the setting/campaign.
PSS: Not to discourage you but if you do make it through the questionnaire and into the second group of applicants you will be asked to do a discord interview with your webcam turned on. I am asking you to go through a lot for a game you might not even end up liking I know, but if you do end up liking it, all this effort will be well worth it as I am sure my other players would agree.

2024.05.19 08:56 ivanityg Apple Macbook Air

I have a macbook air and it is just a fucking joke how this corporation can get away with selling such scammy products. The keys are so fucking faulty that they either dont register, register too many times and spam a letter, or literally get stuck into the keyboard - all 3 of these things have been happening since 2 years prior to buying the mac. Not only are the keys dogshit but the device has gotten notably slower and slower by every update and it can barely open some pdfs, a word doc, and my browser. When I was just closing a reddit tab to make a fucking complaint about apple THE W KEY WAS FAULTY AND CLOSED MULTIPLE TABS - ONE OF THEM WAS A DESIGN I WAS WORKING ON ALL FUCKING MORNING AND I WAS SO HAPPY WITH IT. IT ASKED ARE YOU SURE U WANT TO LEAVE BUT INSTANTLY CLOSED BECAUSE THE W KEY WAS BEING ACTIVATED. (ALSO I HAVE HAD TO REMOVE LIKE 20 EXTRA LETTERS WHILE TYPING THIS SHIT OUT BECAUSE OF THESE FAULTY FUCKING KEYS) - Happiest Apple customer.

2024.05.19 08:42 DigitalSplendid Connecting an existing Python web application with another API

As part of CS50 Week 9 project, I have this finance project completed: https://cs50.harvard.edu/x/2024/psets/9/finance/
Now, I intend to connect this project with Zerodha API (https://kite.trade/) instead of current Yahoo Finance API.
Not sure though I understand it is unlikely that all the Python files Zerodha has as part of their API docs (https://github.com/zerodha/pykiteconnect) to be added to my Codespace. The reason I feel so is Yahoo Finance too might have their own set of Python files as part of their API docs which were never added. They rather perhaps need to be imported using import command.
The configuration was made in helpers.py for Yahoo Finance API:

 # Prepare API request symbol = symbol.upper() end = datetime.datetime.now(pytz.timezone("US/Eastern")) start = end - datetime.timedelta(days=7) # Yahoo Finance API url = ( f"https://query1.finance.yahoo.com/v7/finance/download/{urllib.parse.quote_plus(symbol)}" f"?period1={int(start.timestamp())}" f"&period2={int(end.timestamp())}" f"&interval=1d&events=history&includeAdjustedClose=true" ) # Query API try: response = requests.get( url, cookies={"session": str(uuid.uuid4())}, headers={"Accept": "*/*", "User-Agent": request.headers.get("User-Agent")}, ) response.raise_for_status() # CSV header: Date,Open,High,Low,Close,Adj Close,Volume quotes = list(csv.DictReader(response.content.decode("utf-8").splitlines())) price = round(float(quotes[-1]["Adj Close"]), 2) return {"price": price, "symbol": symbol} except (KeyError, IndexError, requests.RequestException, ValueError): return None def usd(value): """Format value as USD.""" return f"${value:,.2f}"
Modified the same for Zerodha:
ef lookup(symbol): """Look up quote for symbol using Zerodha Kite Connect API.""" # Prepare API request symbol = symbol.upper() headers = {"X-Kite-version": "3"} # Specify API version # Endpoint URL with placeholder for access token and symbol url = f"https://api.kite.trade/data/v3/instruments/{symbol}" # Read access token from config file securely try: config = ConfigParser() config.read('config.py') # Assuming config.py is in the same directory access_token = config.get('DEFAULT', 'ZERodha_ACCESS_TOKEN') except (FileNotFoundError, KeyError): # Handle missing config file or key gracefully print("Error: Configuration file or access token not found.") return None .....................................................
Although the above for Zerodha is still not functional, is it correct that if the above portion of the code configured correctly, I can connect the proposed web application with Zerodha API?
UPDATE:
ChatGPT apparently solved this query:
Yes, you're on the right track. If you configure the portion of the code correctly to interact with the Zerodha API, you should be able to connect your web application to the Zerodha API.
Here are some key points to consider:
  1. API Endpoint: Ensure that you're using the correct endpoint for the Zerodha API. The endpoint you're accessing in the lookup function (https://api.kite.trade/data/v3/instruments/{symbol}) seems appropriate for retrieving instrument data.
  2. Authentication: Make sure you're handling authentication correctly. It appears that you're attempting to read the Zerodha access token from a config file. Ensure that the access token is valid and that your application has the necessary permissions to access the Zerodha API.
  3. Error Handling: Implement robust error handling to handle cases where the Zerodha API request fails or returns unexpected data. This includes handling exceptions such as FileNotFoundError, KeyError, and requests.RequestException as you've done in your code.
  4. Testing: Once you've configured the code to interact with the Zerodha API, thoroughly test your application to ensure that it retrieves data correctly and handles errors gracefully.
By addressing these points and making sure that your code interacts correctly with the Zerodha API, you should be able to connect your web application to the Zerodha API successfully.

It seems like you're encountering some permission issues while trying to install packages and run commands using apt-get. Here are some steps you can take to resolve these issues:
  1. Permission Denied: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to install packages and run commands as required. If you're working in a Linux environment, you may need to use sudo to elevate your privileges. For example:arduinoCopy code sudo apt-get install libffi-dev python-dev python3-dev
  2. Lock File Issue: The error message E: Could not open lock file /valib/dpkg/lock-frontend indicates that another process is currently using the package management system. Make sure that no other package manager or update process is running in the background. If you're certain there are no other processes, you can remove the lock file manually:After removing the lock file, try running the apt-get command again.bashCopy code sudo rm /valib/dpkg/lock-frontend
  3. Installation of pykiteconnect: Since you couldn't find a matching distribution for pykiteconnect, it's possible that it's not available via pip or apt-get in your current environment. You may need to check the installation instructions provided by Zerodha or consider alternative methods for installing pykiteconnect.
Try these steps and let me know if you encounter any further issues!

It seems that pykiteconnect is not available for installation via pip in your current environment. This could be due to various reasons, such as the package not being hosted on PyPI or not being compatible with your Python version.
You might want to double-check if pykiteconnect is available on PyPI by searching for it directly on the PyPI website or by consulting the official documentation or repository of Zerodha.
If pykiteconnect is not available on PyPI, you may need to install it using alternative methods, such as downloading the source code from the official repository and installing it manually, or using a package manager specific to your operating system.
Once you have successfully installed pykiteconnect, you should be able to import it into your Python scripts and use it to interact with the Zerodha API.

Is this the right way to install pykiteconnect? Just registered for Publisher program. I could see it is mentioned: No API access. HTML/Javascript buttons and basket.ChatGPT
It seems that pykiteconnect might not be available via PyPI for installation using pip. If you've registered for the Publisher program with Zerodha and it mentions that there's no API access and instead offers HTML/Javascript buttons and basket, then pykiteconnect might not be the right tool for your use case.
In this scenario, you might want to check the documentation or resources provided by Zerodha for the Publisher program to understand how you can integrate their features using HTML/Javascript buttons and baskets.
If you specifically need to interact with the Zerodha API programmatically and pykiteconnect is not suitable, you might need to explore other options provided by Zerodha or consider contacting their support for further assistance on how to integrate their services with your application.

2024.05.19 07:53 scidsg Principles of a Tip Line Platform: A research-based way to evaluate whistleblower systems

Principles of a Tip Line Platform: A research-based way to evaluate whistleblower systems
Article Cover Showing List of Principles and Names of Researchers
Thanks to the good work of academic researchers across the globe, we have a data-driven way to evaluate the quality of whistleblower software. The papers we’ve looked to for this article include:
The authors lists the characteristics of a whistleblower submission system. They include:
  1. Usability of the Software
  2. Authenticity of the Receiver
  3. Plausible Deniability of the Whistleblower
  4. Availability of the System
  5. Anonymity of the Whistleblower
  6. Confidentiality and Integrity of the Disclosures

1. Usability of the Software

Managed Service
Usability is the linchpin of any good software system. No matter what your value proposition is — the most private, secure, or whatever — if your targeted audience cannot use the software, no amount of engineering genius will make a difference. As researcher Joakim Uddholm puts it:
“The system must be usable for both whistleblowers and journalists. Whistleblowers must be able to use the system without the protection features getting too much in the way, and journalists must be able to use the system without it interfering too much with their work routines.”
A key differentiator for Hush Line is that we’re a managed service, meaning you don’t have to host core infrastructure, operate dedicated networks, or hire specialists to start using the service. All a user needs to do to have an anonymous tip line is register an account.
UI for Hush Line Registration page
By providing a centralized service, we significantly reduce the risk of user error, making the service more consistent, predictable, and trustworthy.

Email Delivery

Hush Line can deliver messages directly to your email inbox. Users may enter their preferred SMTP information from Gmail or Riseup, for example, and any message submitted to their tip line will be delivered to their email account. Enabling users to set it and forget it makes using Hush Line effortless and integrates into the systems they’re already using.
SMTP Hush Line Settings

Clearnet and Tor Addresses

Hush Line is also available on both Clearnet and Tor Onion addresses. This approach is critical for users where Tor might be blocked or having anonymizing software on their device could be incriminating, like in the case of Ola Bini in Ecuador.
Screenshot of Ola Bini’s tweet about his conviction.
Since Hush Line can be accessed over a Clearnet address with the default browser already on your phone, your fingerprint will be the same as everyone else who just bought a new phone.

Making PGP Easy

Before, using PGP meant adopting cumbersome workflows that even stumped journalists at the heart of the Snowden disclosures. Journalist Glenn Greenwald didn’t have PGP set up, and didn’t have the time to learn how to do it, resulting in Snowden not being able to securely contact him. Even Snowden forgot to send his PGP key to journalists when initially contacting them.
Inbox view with Mailvelope browser extension.
Hush Line attempts to solve this problem through our integration of Mailvelope, a powerful open-source browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that enables users to create keys, decrypt and encrypt message directly in their browser, and export their public PGP key. For tip line owners, once adding their PGP key to Hush Line, all messages are end-to-end encrypted by default and when a tip comes in, they can read it within the Hush Line app. For whistleblowers, this means they don’t need to do anything to send a secure, anonymous message.

2. Authenticity of the Receiver

Verification System

Hush Line has a verification system for journalists, organizations, activists, or other public figures. Verified accounts receive a special badge on their message submission page so that people submitting messages know they’re contacting the right person. To be verified, users must submit proper information to prove their identity or approval to represent a company.
Submit Message page with a “Verified Account” badge.

Opt-In User Directory

Users may opt-in to a public directory where others can find their address. The default tab is prioritized to make it easy to find verified users. The directory is searchable, and a whistleblower can have confidence of the validity of an address.
Hush Line User Directory page

Account Reporting

The verification system and user directories are two ways to help ensure the authenticity of the receiver, but to help ensure the platform’s health, we enable users who have logged in to report spam or abuse accounts. We will address reported accounts immediately to determine the best next steps, whether deleting the account, sending a warning message, or other appropriate methods.

3. Plausible Deniability of the Whistleblower

No Downloads

Hush Line is accessible over a Clearnet address, so a user doesn’t have to download any new software to send an anonymous message. If someone wants to use a Tor-only tip line service on their mobile device, they must sign in to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. To download Tor Browser, you need to provide a valid email address or phone number and possibly payment information, all considered personally identifiable information. Now that you’ve downloaded new software on your phone, your “fingerprint” has become unique to who you are. If you only have Robinhood, Tor Browser, Mastodon, Chrome, and Slack on your phone, the likelihood of someone else having only those same apps becomes less likely. If you have even 50 apps, your fingerprint will be more associated with you, possibly entirely unique. The more unique your fingerprint is, the less realistic a plausible deniability claim is.

One-Way Messaging

Most people fail to report information because they fear retaliation and the significant risks of whistleblowing. Hush Line is a one-way messenger explicitly designed to protect the individual submitting the message. If the person submitting a message feels comfortable enough to leave a contact method, they may or can submit a message without any further involvement.

Account-Free for Whistleblowers

Someone submitting a message does not need to create an account to use the app. This crucial feature allows a whistleblower to reduce the trail of information they leave behind. No credentials can be found if you have no username or password to save. And since Hush Line requires no special software, a message can be submitted from any phone or computer, from a pubic library or internet cafe, for example.
Success message after sending a message without an account.

4. Availability of the System

Centralized Services

By providing a centralized service, Hush Line is more reliably available by only requiring a single system to be maintained and secured. Centralizing our services protects users by removing the responsibility of managing specialized infrastructure and following complex workflows, which, if done incorrectly, could have real-world implications.
Decentralized systems help with censorship resistance (and Hush Line can also be self-hosted), but when there are tens, hundreds, or thousands of separate instances all disconnected from each other, there is no way to ensure the quality of those systems. What other software is on the server? Is it updated? Are any ports open? Who currently has or has had access? What hardware are they using? It’s impossible and foolhardy to assume that everyone will follow best practices consistently.
An analogous example of the inherent risks of decentralization is from the Mastodon network — a decentralized version of Twitter where anyone can run an instance. The database for Kolektiva.social, a service tailored to anarchist users, was compromised. In 2023, the home of its admin was raided for an unrelated event, and the FBI seized an unencrypted database backup.
Snippet from the Kolektiva admin account’s post after the raid.

5. Anonymity of the Whistleblower

Leaking IP Addresses

To make Hush Line accessible to as many people as possible, the app is available on a publicly accessible URL, which is what you might expect from any web service. However, when using a Clearnet URL, leaking a user’s IP address is a real possibility.
To help defend against this, we scrub IP addresses from our access logs to minimize the risk of this happening when you use our app. To remove the possibility of IP leaks in high-threat scenarios, we deploy Hush Line as a Tor Onion service.

Tor Support

Tor is a network that anonymizes your internet browsing activity. It acts as a proxy by randomly routing your request through its network of relays, hiding who is making the request. Tor also has a feature called Onion Services. An Onion service makes a website or application accessible through a special .onion address that is only available through the Tor Browser.
Message submission onion site.
When using a regular browser like Chrome or Firefox, when you enter an address like hushline.app the browser needs to know the server address for that URL. A long chain of services helps make it possible, from your ISP to DNS services, the server running the app, and more to make it possible to type something memorable like hushline.app instead of remembering and entering 64.23.155.36. Just as the browser needs to know the IP address of the target web server, your IP address is also necessary to know where to send the information.
Your IP address is essentially your customer ID for your internet service provider. All someone with the necessary authority needs to do is request the information of the owner of that IP, and your real identity is exposed.
Onion services defeat this kind of threat because they don’t operate using the same DNS and IP protocols. Tor Browser is connected to the Tor anonymizing network, and so are the Onion services that exist within it. When someone uses a .onion address, the request from the browser to the server and back never leaves the Tor network, completely sidestepping IP leakage.
To access Hush Line’s information site using our Onion address, enter `http://w25rxxn62dgix7qdbw4ot37m2y4ty7kxfrinspw4ce7jzse7pb6rhaqd.onion/\`, or to access the app’s Onion site, enter `http://ghj4vviaoccj4tj2r3ss52arbnchkfvs7uft4sgtrkuvdha5zjgo6yqd.onion\` in Tor Browser.

Timing Correlation

To know that two people are talking to each other, you don’t need to know the contents of their messages if you have enough metadata about the conversation. One such way to reveal important context about who might be talking to each other is to learn when the messages were sent. If there’s a flurry of activity from two accounts — one after the other, repeatedly, pausing at similar times, being active at similar times— someone analyzing the logs might assume those accounts are talking to each other.
To address this, we do not timestamp messages or relate accounts in any way. An attacker with access to the server cannot relate two messages on the platform, which is largely irrelevant as Hush Line is designed as a one-way messenger.

6. Confidentiality and Integrity of the Disclosures

Message Encryption

Hush Line uses PGP for message encryption, making the key owner the only one technically able to read the decrypted messages. Messages are end-to-end encrypted using OpenPGP.js, meaning our server will never see the decrypted contents.
Hush Line Inbox with an encrypted message.
We’re proactive about communicating with senders and receivers about the importance of the tip line owner adding their public PGP key, and we discourage sharing sensitive information if the receiver doesn’t encrypt their messages.
Unencrypted warning on a message submission page.

HTTPS

We use Let’s Encrypt for HTTPS certificates. When a site uses HTTPS, requests use the TLS protocol to encrypt data in transit from the browser to the server and back. This protects your activity from being monitored or tampered with while using the app.
For an attacker who can monitor network connections, instead of seeing which page you’re on or who you’re submitting a message to, the primary URL is only visible. So if a message submitter is on https://hushline.app/submit_message/artvandelay the recipient remains unobservable, and the only thing visible to a network snoop is https://hushline.app/.

Conclusion

There are many tip-line solutions on the market, and it can be intimidating to choose the right one for you. We hope this article gives you a data-driven way to evaluate the software that fits your needs.

Here's a comprehensive guide on how to prepare for the Manaslu Circuit Trek Nestled in the majestic Himalayas, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is a remote and breathtaking journey that offers stunning vistas, rich cultural experiences, and a thrilling adventure for trekkers. Encircling the world's eighth-highest peak, Mount Manaslu (8,163 meters), this trek takes you through diverse landscapes, from lush green forests to rugged terrain, pristine rivers, and authentic mountain villages. To ensure a safe and enjoyable trekking experience, adequate preparation is key. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to prepare for the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal.

Understanding the Manaslu Circuit Trek

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a moderate to challenging trek that usually takes around 12 to 16 days to complete. The trek begins at Soti Khola and follows the Budhi Gandaki River, passing through quaint villages, rhododendron forests, and High Mountain passes before reaching the mesmerizing Manaslu Base Camp. Along the way, trekkers are treated to panoramic views of Mount Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Himalchuli, and other snow-capped peaks.

Physical Fitness and Training

Physical fitness is essential for enjoying the Manaslu Circuit Trek to its fullest. While previous trekking experience is not mandatory, regular cardiovascular and strength training exercises are highly recommended. Aim to build your endurance, strength, and flexibility at least 2 to 3 months before your trek. Some specific exercises to focus on include:
Cardiovascular Exercises: Hiking, jogging, cycling, and swimming to improve stamina and endurance.
Strength Training: Squats, lunges, calf raises, and core exercises to strengthen leg muscles and improve balance.
Flexibility Training: Yoga or stretching exercises to enhance flexibility and prevent injuries.

Packing Essentials

Packing wisely is crucial for a successful trek. Here's a list of essential items to pack for the Manaslu Circuit Trek:
Clothing:
Moisture-wicking base layers
Insulating layers (fleece jackets, down jackets)
Waterproof and windproof jacket and pants
Trekking pants and shorts
Thermal innerwear
Warm hat, gloves, and scarf
Comfortable hiking socks and gaiters
Sturdy trekking boots and sandals
Gear:
Backpack (40-50 liters)
Sleeping bag (4-season)
Trekking poles
Crampon/Microspike
Headlamp with extra batteries
Sunglasses with UV protection
Sunscreen and lip balm with high SPF
Water purification tablets or filter
First aid kit and personal medications
Miscellaneous:
Passport and permits
Cash (Nepali Rupees) for expenses
Water bottle or hydration bladder
Lightweight towel and toiletries
Snacks and energy bars
Camera or smartphone for capturing memories

Acclimatization and Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness is a potential risk when trekking at high elevations. Proper acclimatization is essential to minimize the risk of altitude-related illnesses. Here are some tips to help you acclimatize effectively:
Gradual Ascent: Follow a slow and steady pace, allowing your body time to adjust to the increasing altitude.
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, but avoid alcohol and caffeine.
Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to any symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headache, nausea, dizziness, or fatigue. If you experience any symptoms, descend to a lower altitude immediately.

Permits and Regulations

Before embarking on the Manaslu Circuit Trek, you'll need to obtain the necessary permits and adhere to the local regulations. The three primary permits required for the trek are:
Manaslu Restricted Area Permit: This permit is obtained through a registered trekking agency and is essential for trekking in the Manaslu Conservation Area.
Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP): This permit allows entry into the Manaslu Conservation Area and it can be obtained from Kathmandu.
Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): Since the Manaslu Circuit Trek connects with the Annapurna Circuit, you'll also need an ACAP permit, which can be obtained in Kathmandu or Pokhara.

Choosing the Right Trekking Agency

While it's possible to trek the Manaslu Circuit independently, it's highly recommended to hire a reputable trekking agency for a safer and more organized experience. A good trekking agency will provide experienced guides, porters, necessary permits, accommodation, meals, and transportation, ensuring a hassle-free trekking experience.

Hiring a Local Guide

Hiring an experienced guide is highly recommended for the Manaslu Circuit Trek. A knowledgeable guide will not only ensure your safety but also enrich your trekking experience with valuable insights into the local culture, customs, and flora/fauna of the region.

Try to be vegetarian

Trekking in the remote regions of Nepal, such as the Manaslu Circuit, presents unique challenges, particularly regarding food safety and hygiene. While trekking, it's crucial to prioritize your health and well-being, and one way to do this is by opting for a vegetarian diet.
In the remote mountain lodges and teahouses along the Manaslu Circuit Trek, refrigeration facilities are limited. This means that storing and preserving meat safely can be challenging, increasing the risk of foodborne illnesses.
While the teahouses along the trekking route do their best to maintain hygiene standards, it can be difficult to ensure the freshness and cleanliness of meat products, especially in such remote areas. Hence, by opting for a vegetarian diet, you significantly reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses such as food poisoning, which can disrupt your trek and lead to serious health issues.

Final Thoughts

The Manaslu Circuit Trek offers an unforgettable adventure through some of the most spectacular landscapes in Nepal. With proper preparation, training, and the right mindset, this trek promises to be an experience of a lifetime. Whether you're a seasoned trekker or a first-time adventurer, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is sure to leave you spellbound with its natural beauty and cultural richness.
So, pack your bags, lace up your boots, and get ready for an epic journey into the heart of the Himalayas!
Happy Trekking!

2024.05.19 07:08 aotgnat How big and red is this flag?

Found a car that I want to buy. Checks all my boxes. Priced fairly. One issue...
Per seller, they bought it a year ago and did not register and transfer the title to their name. Car has been sitting. They have the title and both keys, Carfax is clear. Basically seems / sounds like he is flipping it and for this car, I'm ok with that or maybe really did change his mind.
Should I expect difficulty registering it in my name having it not being registered to him as the current seller? I'd be paying cash to avoid similar issues trying to finance it.
Illinois. Please let me know if any other info is needed - trying to keep this succinct. Thanks in advance.

2024.05.19 07:05 Funkypeppa Trouble Install Ubuntu on Windows 11

I am attempting to install Ubuntu with WSL on Windows 11
I've installed Ubuntu in the CMD using the command:
wsl --install -d Ubuntu
When I open Ubuntu I get this error:
Installing, this may take a few minutes...
WslRegisterDistribution failed with error: 0x8007007b Error: 0x8007007b The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
Press any key to continue...
Going back to the command line, when I enter:
wsl --list
I get this:
Windows Subsystem for Linux has no installed distributions. Distributions can be installed by visiting the Microsoft Store: https://aka.ms/wslstore
I have followed many tutorials online to attempt to solve this issue, but none of them seem to work for me.
I'm not sure if it is installing to the correct location as its install location does not match the default install location I've seen online.
I would be grateful for any ideas to solve this issue, and please let me know if anymore information is needed, Thank you.

2024.05.19 06:59 QuestionMarkKitten Ludwig D&D game

I just had an awesome D&D game and I think my friend who was also the GM is both low key and high key an absolute genius.
Because, she came up with a brilliant campaign. I would love if Ludwig did something similar, I think it would make great content.
This occurred because her original party had some drama and split (which was why they didn't let me film it or reveal any identities. But, OMG I wish I could have because it was the best and funniest campaign I've seen in all 15 years of my playing this game.)
So being the geeks we are we settled the argument with a D&D duel... but a party vs. party duel. (I was called to fill in because someone rage quit over some other drama and they needed to keep the party numbers even. We are playing 4 vs. 4) She has essentially created a PVP version of D&D.
The campaign is: The city has been besieged by random monsters who keep appearing out of mysterious portals. So the Mayor has offered a thousand gold reward to the adventurers who kill the most monsters, thus thinning their numbers and keeping them at bay. Plus gold bonuses for reaching a certain amount of monster kills e.g. 100, 200, 1000. or for killing particular bosses.
However, kills can only be monsters. If you kill an NPC/townsfolk it is still considered murder. This and any other crime still applies if someone reports it to the city office and of course bounties will be put on anyone who commits a crime.
If caught, and jailed then found guilty you can be fined the 100g diamond dust each to resurrect the murdered (as long as their body is retrieved) or you will be executed if you cannot pay the fine(s). You can only claim the prize money or access the bank if your ledger is clear of any crimes.
We are playing the campaign on endless mode so we allow resurrection of party members, rescue from executions and buying new identities/re-rolling characters if you do get caught or killed but if you want to limit that, you can just end their character's story and have the player help the GM act out citizen NPCs when their character gets caught or killed. The other team...I mean ANYONE can claim the gold bounty if they assist in the capture of any criminal character. (We are also playing with friendly fire on, but that, again, is optional.)
To keep track of these kills/murders each team is assigned a guide played by the gm and given an enchanted bracelet (much like an iwatch). We used bards as the guides, but any class will do. This guide is a bit like a police officer or park ranger they show the adventurers around, they can be asked about knowledge of the terrain, city lore or rules of the tournament at any time. They also report back to the Mayor and enforce any rules/laws. (They can be killed, threatened or bribed but then they could also report you for the crimes or it could registered on the "enchanted bracelet" as a murder.) They are however a non-active party member who stays back away from the combat and offers minimal assitance when in town they go home or to the townhall head office to make reports and leave the adventurers to their plots and schemes.
You can claim the bonus gold or bounties at any time but only if you are in the city bank, there are no outstanding murders/crimes registered against you or a party member, and your guide is alive and around to verify it.
Here is the genius part, she runs each session turn based, team 1 one session then team 2 one session.
Here is where the game gets super fun: During your session, teams can sabotage each other as much as they want. Feed misleading intel to the citizens, plot assassinations of other party members, set traps, frame other party members for crimes, any shenanigans the players can think of to slow or eliminate the other party members is allowed. (My team this round divised a mail bomb which plays "pop goes the weasle" then fires an explosive weasel at their face. Which will be delivered to the other team next session.)
You can also come up with defenses or counter measures. Or you can get down to the business of racking up as many monster kills as possible by exploring the near by caverns or patrolling the city walls.
The other thing that was genius, is my friend set up a huge monitor and had AI generated art of things we described as we played, displayed on the screen in HD... so you immediately got some very vivid, graphic and bizarre images of the most random things. Like a weasle firing out of a jack in the box. 🤣
We also had a printer and laminator so that whenever an NPC, monster or even our own characters were described we could AI generate an image print it, laminate it and make it an instant token for the board.

2024.05.19 06:08 Equixim ROG STRIX SCOPE ii 96 double input

Hello,
I recently noticed that my rog strix scope ii 96 has a double input upon waking up from sleep mode on any key I press. Whatever key I press when the keyboard is in sleep mode ends up getting registered twice. Is there any way to fix this? So far I have just set the sleep mode timer to 10 minutes after being idle as a temporary fix.

2024.05.19 03:42 mobes313 NFA question?

Hello I’m looking into purchasing a few level 2 toys and attachments in future. I had a meeting today with a lawyer regarding a trust let’s say the fee made me stay clear from that. If I register these items under my name? If I go on vacation and have my dad stay over with these items locked and secure in a safe where I only have the key. Will he become a felon? Am I breaking the law. Is a trust the way to go?

2024.05.19 03:30 -Dudpe- Chanceme for UMiami

Not an out of the ordinary student profile. No I'm not only applying to UMiami but it's definitely my #1, it's just the only one I'm really interested in doing a chanceme for.
Might apply ED based on how hard of a reach this is.*
Demographics: White/Native American (registered member of state recognized tribe, not BS), Male, out of state, single income middle class
Intended Major: Marine Biology/Ecology
SAT: 1390 - 760 English 630 Math - (Just the first try, will try more to improve superscore)
ACT: Will take in June
UW GPA: 3.95 (got one B freshman year geometry) -- Weighted GPA: 4.15
Class Rank: 10/375
AP's: (Took all AP's offered by school, which was unfortunately very few) AP World History, APUSH, AP Environmental Science
Other Honors*:* Will take all of my classes for senior year at a community college through a high school program (allows oustanding highschoolers that want to get more challenging classes to instead take college classes for dual credit). I don't know how much this will impact application since by the time I will be applying there will not be a transcript of this. Does anyone have further insight into how things like that work?
EC's: Slalom + GS Varsity Ski Racing athlete, President of school's Marine Conservation Club, Internship with US National Forest Service (analyzed and monitored local aquatic fish populations alongside a Supervisory Fish Biologist), Key Club Member, NHS member, and Green Club member (another general environmental conservation club)
Essay: About my experience being trapped in a forest fire for two days while hiking when I was 11, and how the event inspired a deep respect for wildlife management and conservation. I'm pretty confident in my skills as a writer and I think I can make a strong essay.
Other: My school is somewhat rural, and has limited opportunities for excelling students (hence the lack of AP's - we literally don't have any more than what I took), might mention that to demonstrate that I wasn't justslacking and not taking AP's that were offered.
*I am considering ED to increase my chances of acceptance, but if I don't recieve any significant financial aid package, I don't want to be locked into that contract. I've also heard that ED students get smaller aid packages since they don't need to entice you, you're locked in. I don't need a full ride or anything like that, but some base level financial aid or annual scholarship would go a long way.
Anyways just lmk how much of a reach this is, and ways to improve my application come december. Thanks for reading.

2024.05.19 03:15 ender2 Google Advanced Protection Program deletes existing yubikeys

I have a few google accounts I'm looking at enabling Advanced Protection Program (APP) on, and for most I have passkeys stored in a mix of Windows Hello, 1Password, and on multiple YubiKeys. I tested enabling it on one of my accounts and I noticed that the process of enabling APP seemed to delete all the existing passkeys I already had stored on YubiKeys on this account. It did not delete the passkeys stored in Windows Hello or 1 Password however.
Before enabling APP I had passkeys stored on 3 different YubiKeys on this account, I then enabled APP using 2 different YubiKeys from the existing 3. After APP was enabled the 3 existing keys were deleted, and only the 2 different keys I registered during APP enablement remained.
Based on this it would appear that you have to re-register all keys when you enable APP, which can be difficult when some are stored offsite for backups etc. Wondering if anyone else has seen this or found a way to prevent enabling APP from deleting all your existing passkeys stored on keys?
I also noticed that adding the 2 new keys for APP enrollment added them as FIDO2 passkeys and not just as U2F keys. However it seems google is still able to use them as U2F only in a password + security key flow.
I did also see an announcement from google that says "We’ll soon support the use of passkeys to enroll in our strongest security offering, the Advanced Protection Program (APP)" Wondering if that change will prevent it from removing existing passkeys stored on security keys when you enroll.
