Please help me recall the title of this book! These are elements I remember:
MMC and FMC live in the same building. Both are gamers and I believe both are hackers. They “meet” in a multiplayer game that has voice chat and the characters in the game can have fairly graphic sex in-game.
FMC is pretending to be a newbie in the game, and MMC is her game guide.
I think they are working up to having plans to meet one another through some app?
FMC is doing some sort of contract work for a guy, and I think MMC is somehow monitoring her key strokes to figure out what she’s researching or hacking?
FMC figures something out about the employer, she rushes home from somewhere to wipe all her computer stuff and abandon ship, and someone already beat her to it (I think). Employer has shown up in the building to come after her (fuzzy here).

I just passed CYSA+ on my first attempt with a 769! I'm so amazed!
To give context about myself, I started my journey into cybersecurity from an international relations background and transitioned into IT/cybersecurity. I did the Google Cybersecurity Certificate, studied and passed CompTIA Security + with a 784. I found my first job as a sys admin, then transitioned into my company's internal SOC. I've been working as a SOC analyst for about 4 months now. I passed CYSA+ with a 769, but I still feel I have much to learn.
Some of the things that helped me to pass CYSA. 1. Tryhackme. I did the Begginer course and learned about ethical hacking and the SOC level 1 path. Having some red team knowledge and how to use Nmap really helped during the exam. 2. Setting up a virtual cybersecurity home lab. There are many YouTube videos that demonstrate how to do this. I set a Kali Linux VM, set up a Windows server 2019 with active directory, a Windows 10 box, and Ubuntu on a virtual NAT network on Virtual Box. I also set up vulnerability with OpenVAS on Kali Linux. 3. I watched Jason Dion's video course for CYSA+. It's long but worth it. I also did many of JD's practice tests. The best I scored was a 78% before taking the real thing. 4. I read/listened to the Sybex CompTIA CYSA+ Study Guide. I'd read the book at home, and I'd listen to the audio book version while driving to work and while walking outside. I also did hundreds of practice questions from the study guide version of the book. 5. Also learn Linux! I downloaded Linux Mint Cinnamon and ran it in a VM to play around with.
Overall, I'm happy to have come a long way into the cybersecurity field, and I look forward to learning more!

Session 1 "The Apartment" (May 24th, 2024)
New York: Tuesday, August 8th, 1995
1:45pm - 3:32pm, EST
Entering the lobby of the Macallistar building in Kips Bay, NYC, the Agents first make a sweep of Abigail's mailbox. Agent MARCUS (M-Cell Case Officer) provided them with a complete set of keys, not to be copied. The mailbox is stuffed full with bills, junk mail, catalogues and offers; mail still being delivered by people who have no idea Abigail is missing. MAVERICK gathers it in a bag and they make their way to Abigail's apartment (Ground floor).
The Macallistar echoes an earlier age. Faded purple carpeting and design from the turn of the century. Opposite Abigail's front door is an old-fashioned telephone nook, complete with bench and curtain for comfort and privacy when phone-lines in individual apartment was an expense few could afford.
M-Cell enters the apartment, finding it somewhere between a hoarder's dream and crime-scene technician's nightmare. The small hallway leads to a living-room (the apartment's largest space), an adjoining bedroom and a kitchen and bathroom opposite each other. Aside from the hallway, on first inspection the only other uncluttered space is the kitchen, which doesn't really look as if it's been used much. MAVERICK ear-marks that as something he wants to check himself as the team begin taking stock.
The NYPD has left a box with copies of their files, including a list of tenants they interviewed, many, many evidence collection bags and a box of latex gloves.
The apartment is filled with various items, with almost no floor visible beneath the collection. CDs and CD cases are stuck or glued to the wall, along with mannequin parts, sketches and assorted pieces that might be ceramic or plastic arranged in odd patterns without reason or rhyme. Stacks of phone books, stretches of dyed fabrics stitched together, an antique claw-footed lamp. Bags, bundles of pictures (drawings and photographs) of seeming nonsense. No furniture is immediately visible in the chaotic mess.
MAIN finds the same result in the bedroom as the first Search rolls are called for. Something catches his eye in the anarchy of the bedroom.
MALATESTA begins sorting through the pile of mail. MILHOUSE at first begins helping, but seeing the scale of the cataloguing, volunteers to make a coffee and food run. MIRANDA begins photographing, while MAVERICK gloves up and asks for things to be passed to him such as brushes, anything with a handle really or something more likely to have fingerprints on it. He wants to see if he can grab a set of Abigail's prints, if that's possible.
It doesn't take MALATESTA long to work out Abigail stopped paying her rent and bills in or around March before disappearing in June. Money was coming in up to a certain point, apparently from a showing Abigail had at the Mercury Gallery in Greenwich Village in November the previous year. There's even a letter from the gallery owner asking about another possible showing; from the way it's written, it might not have been the first time he spoke to Abigail before she vanished. Then, the only money coming in appears to be from her father, though she doesn't appear to have used it to cover the rent. He also gets the building management company, Art Life and their address.
As the Agents work, with MAIN carefully picking his way through the bedroom towards whatever caught his eye and MAVERICK uncovers a battery-powered hi-fi under all the trash, MILHOUSE returns from his coffee run and bumps into someone else entering the Macallistar at the same time he is. After an awkward hesitation on the threshold, MILHOUSE spends a little chatting to Lewis Post, one of Abigail's neighbours. MILHOUSE passes a HUMINT roll and I ruled that having spent most of his time in academics and his fellow PhDs, he can spot signs of some kind of social anxiety. I felt that was a fair get for a good success.
Lewis is hesitant but forthcoming as MILHOUSE works that high charisma score, knowing what to say to diffuse any potential tension. As far as Lewis knows, he is FBI of some kind after all.
MILHOUSE: "Did she ever mention a boyfriend? Girlfriend?"
Lewis: "Our relationship wasn't really like that. We had coffee sometimes. Talked about art. The process." He thinks. "She might have mentioned someone, but not a name, only what they did. A salesman, but I couldn't tell you what they sold."
MILHOUSE: "Talk about anything else?"
Lewis begins heading upstairs "She mentioned moving, but not before she was ready."
Back in the apartment, MAIN voices what others were thinking. "Where was she staying?" No bed, no signs of habitation except for the assorted hoard of crap. MAIN finds a hand grenade nestled in some papers and art supplies near the bedroom's walk-in closet.
In the living room, MAVERICK finds a single cassette tape in the uncovered hi-fi and flips it on, finding the batteries still live. Everyone hears MAVERICK's conversation with his significant other, Natalie from the previous evening. MAVERICK realises it's cut up and out of order, rewinds it and then flips it over. He thinks the entire conversation has been split between A & B sides of the tape.
MALATESTA and MAVERICK both consider phone-tapping, but MAIN, grenade temporarily forgotten, asks how it ended up here?
SAN check for MAVERICK. Pocketing the cassette tape, MAVERICK closes down a bit and prepares to go over the kitchen with a fine tooth comb; perhaps this is how he copes?
Before MAIN can mention the grenade he's worried about, MIRANDA, MALATESTA, MILHOUSE & MAVERICK notice something on the wall behind where the hi-fi was previously buried under junk. Fixed to the wall, maybe with some kind of glue is a piece of brown packing-paper with some kind of symbol drawn on it. Everyone focuses on it.

3:41pm to 5:22pm, EST
MALATESTA: "That certainly looks like what we're supposed to be worried about."
MIRANDA snaps a polaroid. MILHOUSE tries to examine it, but his Occult check can only give him the vague thought it's connected to demonology, but little else beyond that. MAVERICK is cautious, but more concerned about getting to work on the unusually spotless kitchen.
Carefully, MIRANDA removes it and a blaring sounds like something between a horn blast and explosion almost deafens the Agents. It seems to come from everywhere and nowhere, from right next to them and outside at the same time.
Everyone passes a CONx5 check and the subsequent SAN check. Through the living room's window, MIRANDA, MILHOUSE and MAIN see a yellow-cab in the street outside. The cabbie appears to have leaned on the horn as someone crosses the street. They appear heavily dressed for summer, possibly homeless.
Is that a snake draped across their shoulders?
MIRANDA takes a polaroid while MILHOUSE and MAIN head outside to investigate. The picture reveals in sharp clarity, the cabbie staring down the barrel as she snapped the shot directly at her. MAVERICK gets to work in the kitchen and MALATESTA picks over things in the living room and bedroom respectively.
Search rolls for those in the apartment.
Outside, the cab has turned the corner and the pedestrian has carried on, though MAIN and MILHOUSE are able to work out where they went. MILHOUSE heads to cut off the other side of the alley, while MAIN approaches from behind, getting the pedestrian's attention. It's the height of summer in NYC, the air reeks of gasoline, rotting garbage and baking, soiled concrete and asphalt.
MAIN finds a nondescript, seemingly homeless man by the state of his clothes, but with a python draped over his shoulders. MAIN strikes up conversation, lighting a Gitane cigarette and pointing to the snake. From the other end of the alley, MILHOUSE makes his way towards the pair.
MAIN fails an alertness check.
Is this guy sweating? It's hot and he's bundled up like it's winter. Is he sweating? Why isn't he sweating?
Back in the apartment, MAVERICK tests the kitchen for blood and body fluids, breaking out the spray bottle and UV light. There's no cutlery, glassware or dishware anywhere in the room, but as he's lifting what could be a print, finds a mechanical diagram drawn on a napkin taped above the inside of an otherwise empty drawer. MALATESTA & MIRANDA continue their search of the living and bedroom, with MALATESTA finding a card printed with the following:
"For a good time Call D - 999-202-9989"
On the reverse are a series of what appear to be street corner addresses in Brooklyn. Could be a sex-line, could be a way to see Red Band underground film screenings, could be something online related. MALATESTA drifts between a few circles and he pockets it out of curiosity. When MIRANDA locates the grenade in the bedroom, she is careful to give it a wide berth and locates what MAIN missed: a backpack radio in the bedroom's walk-in closet. She calls MALATESTA over.
Back in the alleyway, MILHOUSE rolls under 10% and passes his disguise check. Dressed casually and a college athlete to boot, he fits the general chad look in his New York Knicks shirt despite his academic leanings. Being loud and obnoxious like he's drunk, he barrels into the homeless guy with the snake who stonewalled MAIN.
Instead he hits MAIN as the man with the snake is there and gone in the space between blinks. One moment MAIN is looking at him and then MILHOUSE knocks him flat on his ass. Like a film edit. Just gone. MAIN crit fails his SAN check and takes 4 SAN loss without projecting. Instead, as he scrambles up begins kicking over trash cans and searching the alley while MILHOUSE tries to calm him down and get a handle on things.
As MILHOUSE is talking MAIN out of tearing the alley apart, MIRANDA and MALATESTA check out the radio. As it comes to life, they listen and hear the following:
"Exeter. India. One. Thirteen. Sierra. Twenty. Twenty. Forty-nine."
MAVERICK meanwhile, finding the kitchen bare oddly finds the refrigerator stocked. There isn't much inside, some milk unopened and a pack of cheese and deli meat. Expiration is months ago, but through the plastic and glass of the bottle it looks fresh. Curious, he opens the milk and finds it smells as fresh as the day it was bought. Months ago.
Passes his SAN check. Given what he heard on the tape, it's not the strangest thing today.
MAIN and MILHOUSE detour to grab some more coffees, more to calm MAIN down and give him a (successful CHAx5 check) to flirt with the coffeeshop waitress. On their return, MAIN heads into the bedroom, pulls the pin on the grenade and activates the firing lever.
Nothing happens. His "hunch" was correct. Despite failing to properly identify it, something about the shape of it didn't match modern ordnance. Like the radio, it's vintage and either deactivated or else rendered inert by time and age.
I gave MAIN a SAN point back, because why not?
As things begin winding down, MILHOUSE and MAVERICK puzzle over the weird fridge, with MILHOUSE sacrificing his green tea and MAVERICK a donut to see how "fresh" they are come morning between the fridge and not.

After 6pm, EST
Between them, M-Cell take the rest of the evening to take care of home-scenes or any unfinished business they can get done with their resources at hand. They also divide the Operational evidence from the Case evidence, with MIRANDA taking the symbol, MALATESTA the backpack radio & phone number, MAVERICK the cassette tape (for obvious reasons) and MAIN the mechanical sketch on the napkin.
MIRANDA and MILHOUSE, using the former's academic credentials both stay on the case, with MIRANDA leaving her photos from the park to develop in her bathroom. While she fails her roll, she does help MILHOUSE identify the demon the symbol refers to and book-related lead. She hits up a criminal contact named Hugo to put out feelers for weird items she may be interested in. He agrees for a fee, which she negotiates in her favour.
Returning to her apartment, MIRANDA finds her photos of the dancing clown and watching crowd have developed. In every photograph, the clown is turned away from her, but the faces in the crowd are looking at her. That's not how she remembers it. Fails a SAN check. Projects on to her editor, knowing she's going to be taking a "personal day" tomorrow, and this after she agreed to go to the grill.
This will have consequences.
MAIN, unnerved by the day's events, not the least of which was being knocked on his ass by a fitter, younger man, heads out. He returns to the coffeeshop he and MILHOUSE visited and takes the waitress he hit on out on a date. After a romantic interlude, MAIN has a new bond. Her name's Marsha, she's 27 and very nice.
Breaking Operational Security, MAVERICK asks MALATESTA to come back to his apartment and check for possible surveillance. Despite suffering comparatively little SAN loss overall, MAVERICK is letting the day's events impact his behaviour.
It's trivially easy for MALATESTA to confirm there are no bugs in place, which really does narrow the options for how the conversation could have been recorded. Thankful, he asks MALATESTA to keep this to himself for now, to which the grunge-kid agrees. MAVERICK drops MALATESTA near his home and leaves, putting the tape in the player of his car as he pulls away.
MALATESTA lives near the Village and diverts to check out the Mercury Gallery. Though closed, it seems legit and he makes a note of it for later. Back at home, he breaks open the backpack radio and examines it. The battery is not connected to the radio itself, the wires having been stripped out, yet he and MIRANDA both heard a voice on the end of its phone-mic. He passes his SAN check and finds in place of one of the transistors a small, black stone which does not feel like stone at all and feels like it's body temperature. MALATESTA leaves it on his desk, covered in a cloth.
Alone in his apartment, MAVERICK watches his phone. The time comes and he does not call Natalie. A moment later, his phone rings.
Alone in the apartment, MAVERICK does not answer.

Post-Mortem
We ended up playing for a touch longer than I intended, but I knew that would happen by the time the cab sounded its horn. Despite some tiredness and some drinking, we ended up with a really strong session in retrospect, which has set the overall tone of the campaign for me as GM going forward. Between the five players, two have been through one Delta Green campaign, one has experience with Pulp Cthulhu and two have varying levels of exposure. They all roleplayed the f##k out of their characters and while I was worried about just how weird I wanted things to get out the gate, it feels like the balance is correct and I've given enough avenues for further investigation they may want to pursue.
I got a far better sense, as did the players, as to what drives and motivates their characters and how they cope or don't cope with Delta Green work.
MILHOUSE is definitely setting himself up as the curious academic, Iain playing his interest as forever drawn towards what's there "to discover," he said in character. Perhaps a fool and his sanity are easily parted?
MAVERICK is the "all-American", Agent Cooper adjacent FBI Agent who butts up against the para-natural and is seemingly rocked by it, revealing a complicated and perhaps conflicted depth. In his previous operation with MIRANDA, MAVERICK killed one person, but something about this has gotten under his skin. I wonder what Natalie thinks about their missed call?
A hacker by trade, MALATESTA likes a puzzle as much as he does not like the "weird shit." He talks a good talk when it's about something he knows, but is much too shy to chat up his co-worker. He and MAVERICK had some friction in Session 0 when MAVERICK wanted to call him Mal, to which the younger man pushed back against. Yet, he now knows where MAVERICK lives. Maybe he can learn more? What will he do with that? Does he even want to?
As much as MILHOUSE, MIRANDA is likewise driven by curiosity and a need to know, but first and foremost to keep herself safe. She and him are not the same. There's a scar above her hip from a knife, and it still twinges from time to time. She's also the first to directly or indirectly involve a Bond in the investigation. I wonder what Hugo will or won't find? I wonder what those photos mean. MIRANDA wondered aloud whether the crowd or the clown was the "entity." What does that mean?
Despite being built like Jack Reacher (albeit in a sailor suit), MAIN projects a tough air but is clearly a man at the crossroads. He turns 40 before 1995 ends; middle age. When hit with a problem or something he can't otherwise work out, his behaviour swings from one extreme to the other. To date, he's coped with the case by: lashing out at trash cans in an alley. Chatting up a waitress and forming a romantic bond with her. Pulling the pin on a grenade he "thought" could be fake. It's day one. I'm here for it.

Hi, I'm a christian 28 years old man from the Balkans where I grew up in a small town where I didn't have the mental healthiest childhood when I look back. When I was little I tried to play outside but I didn't have any friends my age, and I didn't like the other children from my neighbors. But I had a few family friends much older than me who were PC gamers and who introduced me to video games in the 2000s. So I grew up, watching TV and playing video games until I had to go to the university. In school I was an average introverted "class clown" goofing around with a little group of friends. At that time I thought we were friends but we were just "school friends". Outside of school I did nothing to seek a relationship with them, we just had our fun at school and come home to play video games. My parents always had to scold me to do my homework and study, because otherwise I would just play video games. The thing is I felt good having fun at school and playing video games at home but I regret not socializing to build relationships.
University was the most stressful period of my life where I had to take everything seriously. I graduated in 2019 when I was already working as a Software Development Engineer for a German automotive company when the pandemic sent us all to work from home.
I took it as a blessing but I begin (sorry for my English) to work overtime to prove I was working, which led to burnout and addictions especially in the weekends. Fortunately I got a better job a few years ago, where I tried to set some boundaries for a good work life balance (no more work after 5 PM). Things were seeming to improve and I tried to return to video games after work just to feel like "in my good old days".
But everything changed when my younger sister asked me a mind shattering question: "What are you doing with your life from now on? What memories will you have on your death bed?" Now I want to mention that my father had tried for years to make me quit video games, but his argument was always for the sake of school, which made me oppose more resistance. But my sister's question, I don't know how to describe the "explosion" she created in my mind. Like when you tell a computer to divide by 0 and nothing makes sense anymore. Some kind of existential crisis I think. This threw me back in depression and addictions until a year ago when I discovered self improvement while doom scrolling on YouTube.
I stumbled upon some self improvement channels which motivated me to start the last year optimistically and I did start optimistically and motivated but I was not satisfied with the self improvement content I was consuming. I wanted something like a "Theory of everything" for self improvement, something to explain an describe human life with all it's areas and sub-areas, and sub-sub-areas and so on. Almost like diving into the core questions of philosophy.
Last year I literally brain stormed my mind with all kinds of questions and contradictory ideas, just like shaking a jar with water and sand, until I had fallen again into desperation, depression, addiction and anxiety at the end of the last year.
But I think I managed to list the first levels or layers of areas and sub areas as following: - Faith - Mindfulness - Feelings / Emotions - Mind / Learning - Survival skills - Housework skills (ex: cooking, gardening) - General knowledge (things we learn in school) - Other manual skills which we unfortunately do not learn in school - Learning about other careers - White collars - Blue collars - Pink collars - Financial Education - Arts, Hobbies and Games - Life Goals; Then what? What goals am I supposed to have here and why? I don't feel anything anymore except a void of nothingness. - Traveling and Socializing (my worst area) - Where should I go and why? - What activity should I do wherever I go and why? - With whom should I go and how, when I don't have any friends I can relate to? - What should I talk about when I don't have any small talk to say, especially with this constant confusion in my mind.
I'm tired of taking walks in my town just for the sake of it only to see the same streets and have the same thoughts and feelings over and over again to the point I became sick of my own mind and feelings. Everywhere I go I have this constant and confusing anxiety which sounds like this:
"Ok, I'm here doing X, then what? Why I'm doing X? How I'm doing X? Is this what I'm supposed to do? How I'm supposed to do it? Something feels wrong, are we sure we are not missing something? What are we missing? Why do I feel this way? Why can't I live natural? Is this OCD? We better check the internet. No, I'm in the middle of the park with my family, I should just be present, enjoy the nature and socialize with the few friends we have. Ok, how do we do that? What I'm supposed to do with my mind? I should say something but what? Nothing comes up in my mind. Oh, no they are talking and I'm not even paying attention. They look so happy, living in the moment, going on with the flow, why can't we do that anymore, how I was living naturally before and what happened? Hey I like this song, I feel like dancing! Oh, so this is how it feels like, but am I doing it righ? Is this is how I'm supposed to feel? Maybe yeah, maybe we should just let ourselves be carried on by the flow. What flow? It's gone. I don't feel it anymore. Oh, no I broke it again. Look at that girl, she is so smart and beautiful living in the moment and I look so old, fat, and inside my head I feel so insane caught in this hurricane of madness! Who on Earth would like to come closer to me to know me as a person and find out how insane I am? ... etc."
Sorry, I let myself get carried away but I have 2 more areas to mention: - Health: I'm fat. Nothing more to say here. - Work: It's ironic and tragic when people envy me for programming from home, when for me it feels like I'm stuck in a time loop, cursed to relieve the same day everyday, where nothing makes sense anymore, and I fear falling back in addictions which makes me obsessively - compulsively fall back in procrastination and addiction, thus validating my broken mind which says "See, I told you this will happen, just like yesterday, so will be tomorrow!" That's why I hate my mind and I become sick of self improvement content which tells me to be mindful. This is where mindfulness led me. I'm the happiest when I sleep and dream because I'm not lucid and I dream naturally and I really feel happy in my dreams. That's why I regret all this mindfulness thing. And I'm sick of "tips and tricks" like "when you feel X pretend or imagine Y" it's not working anymore and it's only giving my mind things to obsess over.
Sometimes when I'm alone with my thoughts, I even get waves of anxiety which makes me fear that I might really lose my mind and go insane, and it frustrates me because I have no explanation, I am completely aware that all of this is completely irrational...so irrational in fact that my mind goes so far to ask "So what is rational then?" See what I mean? It's like in computer programming when you accidentally fall into an infinite recursion and everything crashes. It's like I tried to hack my brain's operating system to see how it works and improve it, but I broke it instead. It feels like my mind is philosophizing and literally tearing itself apart along with the reality itself in the process. Even when I laugh at something, my mind ruins everything by asking: "What is humor anyway? Why? How? What's the point?" and so on.
I think the closest biblical description of my confused feelings would be Ecclesiastes, the book of king Solomon, in which he said something like "everything is meaningless".
Sorry for "throwing up" here, but I felt desperate. I know I sound completely insane but I hope someone can make a sense of this and give me an advice.
All I know is that I'm very confused and my mind is no longer helping me.

I'm new to the party (that no one wants to be invited to) and so thankful for this forum. Before I got involved with a narc I didn't even know what that was. I met my husband in 2021 on an international dating site (he's from Colombia). It was instant love bombing, soulmate-type stuff and it moved very quickly from there. I traveled to meet him 2 months after we started talking and it was love at first sight. I traveled back and forth 7 times in the next year and we got married there in 2022.
Everything seemed perfect - ironically I mentioned to my friends that I felt as if we were the same person (now I know what that means). I made two more trips to his country after the wedding and everything was great. We had filed for his spousal visa but we knew that cases in immigration were taking a long time so we decided I would spend a month in his country (I work remotely so I was given permission to work from there for a month).
Right after I purchased my airline ticket to spend a month there, things started to get strange. He told me his ex-wife (who was crazy and obsessive of course) had found out he got married and was trying to have him killed (hey - it's Colombia, it could happen). He told me he had been assaulted, robbed and beaten by people she had hired and apparently had threatened me as well so he made me cancel my flight because it was too dangerous for me to go there. The next 16 months were a literal nightmare. He had drama every day. He was being followed, harassed, phone hacked, social media hacked, you name it, it happened. He had to quit his job and go on the run. He would call me every day but I was never to call him because he didn't want anyone knowing that we were communicating. Because he wasn't working, I had to start supporting him financially. Now as I type this, it sounds absolutely ridiculous but at the time I was hooked and I believed everything he said because of the person I got to know and married - I trusted him. Every single day was stressful for me. I wasn't sleeping, constantly worrying, I ended up getting sick, I isolated myself from everyone I knew, and I became paranoid because of his constant drama and stories of being in danger. There were several red flags that came up during this time but he had a story/excuse for every one of them.
Our visa was finally approved in 2023 and he arrived here with his 19-year old son. I noticed a difference in him from day 1. I kept writing it off to us being apart for 16 months and the change in environment, culture, etc. for him. I thought he had been through a nightmare and I thought he was just traumatized. The first month was spent getting him settled in and established here. He spoke no English despite the fact that I had paid for him to take classes in his country (he probably never even enrolled). He found a job pretty quickly and started working. I started noticing he was on his phone a lot (texting), he would go outside to take phone calls, he would come home late from work. When I questioned him he would explode and tell me he deserved to have privacy, I had no right to ask him who he was talking to, etc. He also became very distant, he seemed depressed and would just keep telling me our relationship was fine, that the important thing was that we were together. He then came to me and said I had changed, I was no longer the person he met, I was a bad person and we needed to end this marriage BUT that he would live with me until 2025 when we have to renew his visa.
I started investigating. I got into his email account and his Instagram. I discovered he had been having an affair with a woman in his country that he had met one month before he arrived here. He was also in a long-term (3 years on and off) relationship with another woman who he had lived with, proposed to and was supposed to marry - all during our entire relationship. She was the reason why he came up with the ex-wife stalking him story - she found out he got married (while he was living with her) and all hell broke loose so he could not have me going to Colombia. I contacted the woman he was having an affair with and the long-term woman. We spent a month talking to each other, comparing notes and they filled me in on everything. This man was living a double life. Everything he told me was a lie. When I started learning about narcissists, he fit the bill. He is a somatic narcissist (he is very attractive, he's had several plastic surgeries, he's obsessed with staying in shape and takes steroids to maintain his muscular physique, he was prostituting himself in his country and that's how he would find supply). He found out that I was talking to these women and he had several tantrums where he screamed at me, threatened to spread lies about me, etc. I told him he needed to leave my house and I gave him a deadline.
He moved out on May 1st. I'm trying to heal right now and I'm in the process of selling my house and moving to an apartment this weekend because I don't want to live here anymore. I have mostly no contact with him but we still have a couple of things in common financially (which he is paying) so there are times when he calls me to ask me how to make online payments, etc. He acts as if nothing has ever happened. I don't know what to do about immigration. It was obviously marriage fraud (he told the other women that his marriage to me was simply a business deal that I agreed to and he paid me money to go through with it - all lies). I demanded that he pay me back all the money I sent him while we were apart (I have receipts for all of it) so he is currently making monthly payments to me for that. I did consult with a divorce attorney and she suggested I go for an annulment, which would void the marriage and in effect void his visa so he would be deported. My head is spinning. I have so much on my mind that I can't even think about any of that right now. I'm also struggling with not looking at his social media. I don't have any feelings for him, I don't want him back, but I am trauma bonded and I feel the need to see what he's doing. I'm almost finished listening to the audiobook "Psychopath Free" which I highly recommend!! It's been a lifesaver for me just in validating everything I've been through (you all know we constantly question ourselves as to whether or not we're really going through this, whether or not he's really a narcissist, etc.). Sorry this was so long but this story could probably be a book. Maybe someday :)

Are reading books to learn about Linux, terminal, and hacking softwares actually useful to gain knowledge and understanding . And I've seen that most books are older so is there any chance those are outdated and what is written in those books are no longer valid?

Getting familiar with 6e and trying to wrap my head around some of the rules. I'm specifically playing a rigger, and I think I'm good on how rigging my own stuff works, but now I'm trying to get a handle on how that will interact with hacking and the matrix - both defensively for myself and teammates, and if I want to do anything offensive with that myself.
1) First, a general Attack Rating (AR) and Defense Rating (DR) question. This is broader than just hacking obviously, but it is something I'm continuously having to check myself on. Effectively, the only purpose of AR and DR is to determine who gets a point of Edge when an attack is made, right? With so many factors and minutia giving little bonuses and penalties to these, I keep thinking AR and DR should be more impactful... but it seems like so much goes into something that ends up being so trivial. Am I undervaluing that point of Edge? Missing something else?
2) Defense of devices on my own PAN. This seems pretty straightforward. Defense Rating will generally be the Data Processing + Firewall of my own PAN, and my dice pool will generally be Willpower + Firewall (Brute Force, Backdoor Eentry, Control Device, Reboot Device), Data Processing + Firewall (Spoof Command), or Firewall + Firewall (Probe). My RCC will protect my connected drones and vehicles, so I can focus my defense there. If I'm running the Armor program on my PAN (say, an networked commlink), that will added +2 DR for my entire PAN, yeah? (Again, a little underwhelming because it can only impact the Edge gain and not the actual test). If I take the Full Matrix Defense action, I would add my Firewall again to all my dice pools for these defensive tests, right? What other options/programs for protecting my PAN should I keep an eye out for?
3) Defense of my team's devices. I'm trying to take a little bit of a support role with this character. We have a Technomancer on the team who I think is going to lean a bit more offensive, but I'd like to be able to assist on the hardware and defensive side of things. How can I help protect the networked devices of my less tech-savvy teammates? I've found some allusions to protecting devices outside my network in the books and various comments, but I cannot find any documentation how to do it.
4) E-softs (Double Clutch) and Autosofts. Double Clutch introduces rules for e-soft, which the writing imply are supposed to imitate some decker moves under specific circumstances, part of which includes an attack rating = to device rating of the rigger's RCC + rating of the e-soft. An example would be the "Slim Jim" e-soft, which specifically lets you use the Brute Force and Control Device actions, but only when targeting a vehicle or drone, and also gives an Attack attribute equal to the e-soft's rating.
So how does this play out? Let's say I want to actually Brute Force and Take Control of a nearby parked and unattended vehicle. I've got a Vulcan Leigelord (Rating 6 RCC) running a Rating 6 Slim Jim, giving me an Attack Rating of 12 and an Attack attribute of 6. But Brute Force is a Cracking + Logic test, and Control Device is Electronics + Logic, so what does an Attack attribute actually get me? The e-soft seems to allow me to try the hack, which is nice, but without investing heavily in Cracking AND Electronics, is there any point?
But wait! Double Clutch also introduces 'Skills in Autosoft Format', including Cracking (Electronic Warfare) and Electronics (Hardware). Would I be able to somehow use these autosofts in conjunction with Slim Jim to take over other vehicles and drones? But Autosofts specifically are programs that are meant to run on drones and vehicles - I can run them on my RCC for the purposes of sharing with my connected drones/vehicles, but what would using a Cracking (Electronic Warfare) autosoft even look like? Maybe I invest in a hackerbot, load it up with Cracking (Electronic Warfare) and then command it to hack another drone using Slim Jim? I presume it would use Autosoft Rating + Pilot Rating for this test instead of Cracking + Logic, as usual with autosofts. If I succeed and hackerbot manages to Control Device on targetbot, do I now get to command targetbot? (Command hackerbot to Command targetbot?) I don't really want to step on our Technomancer's toes here, but a few of these e-softs seem fun and useful, and I'd love to figure out how to use them effectively.
5) Any other options/upgrades/programs I shouldn't sleep on on a rigger with an emphasis on facilitating coordination and communication within the team (and drones, of course).

I've been replaying Medievil 2 these past few days so here are my personal suggestions. I'll start with the changes.

1. Improve the camera. Like so many early 3D games, ME2's camera is absolutely atrocious. (Worse than the first game's, imo) Not only can you not see the enemies you're fighting half the time, but the camera also turns at the speed of an earthworm. So by the time you manage look behind you, a mummified jackal is already jumping your bones.
   
2. Make the enemies less tanky. I seriously forgot how OP they are in this game compared to the first one. The musket guys take about 5-6 pistol shots, the Greenwich sailor zombies take around the same ammount of charged hammer strikes...Even your basic zombies are way harder to bring down. I played ME1 like a hack n slash but ME2 I am forced to play like I play a Souls game...And even that doesn't work when the game throws me into a small arena with an army of them.
   
3. Improve hit detection for weapons. If I swing/shoot my weapon at an enemy, I want to hit it. All the weapons in the first one felt really responsive, but in this one I've had so many moments where my swing would go over a zombie or I'd blast a tiny dinosaur at point-blank range but my shot would go off to the side. There was even a moment that made me rage during the Tyrannosaurus Wrecks boss fight where I tried hitting his weakpoint but my sword would hit the sides of his spine instead.
   
4. Fix enemy spawning. I can't count how many times I've taken damage in this game because I'd go through a screen transition and an enemy would just manifest exactly where I'm standing. Either that, or a cutscene would play where a bunch of enemies are summoned (For example, the first necromancer encounter) and I'd have no time to react since the summoned enemies would, once again, manifest exactly where I'm standing.
   
5. Make climbing ladders less of a pain. For some reason, Dan would rather jump off a cliff than descend a latter in this game.
   
6. Remove fall damage. It wasn't a thing in the first game, so why is it here? It's really annoying, especially during the tricker platforming sections. (And we all know that platforming has never really the strong suit of this series)
   
7. Make it so that health fountains don't run out permanently.
   
8. Make Dan mumble again.
   
9. Change the 100% ending. Maybe to something that sets up a possible sequel?
   

8: All the improvements from the ME1 remake, including he Book of Gallowmere (London?) for that sweet lore and concept art.
Now, for things I want to stay the same.

1. The atmosphere. If anything these games excel at, it's that Burton-esque gothic horror atmosphere with just a touch of goofiness. Just imagine the ammount of detail they could put into levels like Kensinton or all the different creatures you face.
   
2. The combat. I always get annoyed whenever someone says that the Medievil games need a more "modern' combat system like the new God of War or something. Let Medievil be its own thing.
   
3. Character designs. If there is one thing I always dread about remakes, it's the fact that devs will often try to change or censor old character designs. ME2's allies and enemies are all iconic in terms of appreciance and they'd better leave them as is. I'm particularly worried about enemies like the Freakshow Magicians since "Noooooo it's offensiv nao!!!!11"
   
4. Sound effects. I'm still miffed about them changing some of the iconic sounds of the first game, like the ladies who go "Lalalala!" and whatnot. The ones in ME2 are just as memorable: The zombie noises, the creakiness of the metal knights, the agonizing screeches of the vampires, the dread-inducing giggles of those little girls...And of course, "OI! OI! OI"
   
5. The music. The music in this game contributes to a huge part of its atmosphere. For example, the Greenwich music still feels me with a sense of haunting eerieness to this day. While I wouldn't mind if they updated it a bit like in the ME1 remake, it should still capture the original feeling at the end of the day.
   
6. Basically everything else.
   

Since this sub is so specific (and it's going to stay that way), it seemed like having a weekly chat would give members the opportunity to post something beyond books you adore, so this is the place to do it.
