2024.06.09 14:36 oceanswillrise Speeds didn’t change after upgrading internet

Xfinity recently did upgrades in my area and I upgraded to the new gigabit x2 plan. When running a speed test I’m still showing the same results from when I had the gigabit extra plan. Neither my download or upload speeds have changed when testing it hardwired from the network switch.
I’ve unplugged my modem to reset in hopes it would re-provision but still stuck with the same speeds.

2024.06.09 10:01 Noctis_the_King Which trade/practice would I call to install new ethernet ports in my house?

I bought a house a few years ago, and it has two coax connections coming into it. One is in the living room and one is in the master bedroom. I have an Xfinity routemodem connected in the living room, and from that I'm running a cat6 cable to the opposite end of the house so the desktop in my office has a hard-wired line. The cat6 is currently just taped to the wall with painter's tape and traversing the various nooks and crannies of the ceiling, and I think it's finally time to start thinking about having something professionally installed so I can finally get this cable off the wall.
I'd like to have a few ethernet ports added to all the rooms in my house so I can just make connections at the hub in the living room, but I'm not sure where to even begin or who to call. A few people I know suggested electricians might be able do it, but everyone I've called has said they don't really do anything like that.
Which trade would I need to call in order to have these new ports installed? Or am I approaching this issue the wrong way and need a different solution instead? The office is definitely the priority for me, but I figure I may as well just get everything done so I have the capability in the future and don't have to go back into the walls.

2024.06.09 03:13 aamir23 Setup dual channel on spectrum router

Just switched to spectrum 1 gig and their line wouldn't work on my Netgear C6220 that could support dual channels.
Had to go with their modem and router, but their wifi router doesn't have a separate 2.4 GHZ signal that my old laptop and security cameras cant detect. What are my options here? Can their router be configured to show two separate channels?

2024.06.09 03:03 Moxa_333 Cable modem recommendations?

Hey there,
I have Xfinity xFi Gateway modem, and it seems like next month they'll start charging me monthly for its "rental". I'm considering buying my own modem. Any recommendations? I'd go for the average/medium pricing. Nothing too fancy.

2024.06.09 02:57 AlphaFox77 Pod Offer Confusion

Received a promotional email from Xfinity saying, that Xfi Complete did an assessment and “You’re eligible for WiFi Boost Pods at no extra cost” with a link to “Claim your WiFi Boost Pods”. Followed the link, and got message that I did not qualify (but of course I could purchase one) because of my “gateway” modem. Gateway was the old modem before I upgraded to the new Xfi Complete. Is this just a marketing scam from Xfinity to sell pods?

2024.06.09 02:18 Vabiol Ethernet in new apartment

Ethernet in new apartment
Hi all trying to run Ethernet in my new place. It came with an XFINITY xfi modem built into the web of cables in the photos I’ve attached. Not sure what pretty much any of this is but my computer is displaying that there is no Ethernet cable plugged in. The wifi is built into a closet on the opposite side of my apartment near the door and my pc sits in the opposite corner of the place. I have my cable plugged into a wall near my pc and then into my pc.

2024.06.09 02:10 Zandre3000 Personal modem/router for monitoring data consumption by device?

As the title suggests, I'm looking for a modem/router that allows me to monitor by-device data use on my LAN. I have an Arris surfboard currently and also an pi-hole attached to my network, but neither of those give me that capability. I looked at Comcast's compatible hardware page, but they give very little information on the hardware they support. I also really don't want to rent Comcast's hardware. Anyone here use and devices that give them that capability?
Edit: grammar and compatible devices link: https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices/#auth
Edit 2: Specific Arris model is SBG6950AC2
Probably also worth noting that where I am, I usually don't get speeds greater than 100mbps

2024.06.09 01:40 Separate-Wave-8736 Confusing Wi-Fi names?

Could anyone explain this to me, I’m so confused why this exists. My family has an Xfinity modem with bridge mode disabled so we can also use it for wifi. When we connect devices, we have the wifi 5GHz and then the 2.4GHz (example5, example2.4). For some season, we have 2 more options with our wifi name we had years ago (oldexample5, oldexample2.4). Those 2 both show 3 bars but do not provide any wifi. Anything I should be concerned about? We only have the 1 modem, we don’t get charged anything extra, we just have no idea why these exist on every device, new or old? Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

2024.06.09 01:17 KJMM524 No internet due to connection issue. No tech appts until Tuesday.

Hello: My internet just randomly stopped working. I used Xfinity assistant to troubleshoot, and it was determined there is an issue with the signal to my home/unable to get a signal from my modem. A tech appt was scheduled but the first available is Tuesday 10am. However, I work from home and cannot be without internet on Monday (Xfinity hot spot is not an option because it is an unsecured network). Is there a waitlist available or a way to be notified about cancellations?

2024.06.09 00:00 TrickyBrain8152 Smart home devices won’t connect to Xfinity equipment

For the past week, my internet has been going out for large chunks of time. I’ve had technicians to my home both this past Wednesday and Friday. On Friday, the technicians told me that the problem was that I was using my own router instead of the xfinity router which is built into the xfinity modem. I explained that the person who set up my internet over six months ago connected my router per my request because I need it to be able to connect my smart home devices (robot vacuum and puppy camera). I even demonstrated to them that these devices only work when connected to my personal router. Even separating the frequencies into 2.4 and 5g through the xfinity app did not allow my home devices to connect without my personal router. They were able to correct my connection issue and still allow my to use my own router. The connection held for about six hours and then stopped working. This morning, I unplugged my router and am only using the xfinity modem. However, none of my smart home devices are working even though my internet is otherwise working and I’m connected to the 2.4 frequency. Is there a way to correct this? It’s highly frustrating that the smart devices will not connect.

2024.06.08 22:01 AnitaCS Help with Netgear CM2050V modem voice not working

We installed this new modem plus a Negear router 4 days ago. Called Xfinity to give them the CM MAC address and everything worked fine. They said the voice would come back in 24-72 hours. It has not come back. I have read in threads that Xfinity needs to manually activate the voice and put in the MTA MAC address for the modem.
I was on a chat this morning and it appeared they tried to do that. Sent a new file to the modem and I rebooted after an hour. It did not work. I was just on the Xfinity phone support and they do not know what I am talking about.
Is it better to go into the Xfinity store or to have a tech come out? I know other people have resolved this. I do not know why Xfinity has this Listed as one of their supported modems for Voice when it is so hard to get it working. I bought this from Amazon and their entire page is how it is Xfinity voice supported.
Please tell me what I should do. Thank you.

2024.06.08 20:46 skreii Speed won't upgrade

XFINITY,
I live in a building managed by XFINITY communities. We have EPON here (fiber-to-the-home); no coax. All units come with preinstalled gateways and a standard connection of 300Mbps symmetrical.
My particular unit has a NKFN11AEL 10G-EPON as well as a XB7 modem. They are connected together with a ethernet cord going from the EPON modem into the 4th port of the XB7.
I am trying to purchase the upgrade speed package which is $30 for our community and that gives me 1Gbit symmetrical (I moved units down the hall and verified the speeds before).
For whatever reason, this modem is not taking the speed. All agents said they send the boot file many times to the modem but I am still seeing the standard 300Mbps.
Can I get some help here? I'm sure I just got the wrong people working on it, can't be too difficult :-)
Thanks, Steven

2024.06.08 18:53 vedo4prez Need some help on getting wired connection

Need some help on getting wired connection
So I have my internet connection in my master bedroom closet upstairs above my garage. I currently have Frontier and they put a modem inside the wall w/ a router as well (it sits in the wall w/ a door to conceal them).
The internet upstairs works just fine and I have a router in my office that is hardwired into my PC. The issue I’m facing is downstairs, we cannot stream movies well even though I have a 2gig internet plan for all my smart home devices. So essentially, my WiFi speeds are really slow downstairs.
I have a blank plate downstairs which my builders said is a Cat 6 data outlet. I know I can buy an Ethernet wall plate but I’m unsure how to secure everything since it’s just a blue wire and doesn’t have the ends ready to be placed in to a wall plate. I’m not tech savvy or anything close to understanding electrician type things.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

2024.06.08 18:30 Alexmich321 How to tell who’s losing connection me or other players ???

On Die Maschine Xbox series x I’m having issues where I get to highish rounds (20) or above and well the most common one is “migrsting hosts “ and very rare “connection interrupted” The migrating hosts seems to happen legit 6-8 times out of 10 times playing. Wireless connection. Connecting to 5gz channel IPv4 and ip6 Nat type open This is a new apartment iam kinda far from the routemodem but when I test it in Xbox settings the signal says 98% and the speeds are like 230 down and like 140 up. When I press select it says Packet loss 0% And my ping bounces around but never more then like 50-65ms. Going on a rant here but I’m at a loss. Changed my router security setting to low because I was getting a nat type that would randomly change to “moderate “ It fixed that issue atleast.

2024.06.08 16:42 Significant-Paint529 Comcast Business Doesn`t Allow My Business Website Access!

Hello Y`all I have Build my First website with GoDaddy and its Talyaroofing.com First 5 months had not problems but suddenly I couldn't access my website from Comcast business then Xfinity Due to it shown as not secure Not haven't SSL certificate. I have Worked with marketing agencies that has great support system that can`t fix the problem. When I have reach out to Comcast they blamed on GoDaddy Whenever I Call GoDaddy they blame on Comcast. That pissed me off and I basically cut every end with GoDaddy. And moved my website to Squarespace, and also create my website in Squarespace. I have worked with three other marketing company that had built me three websites, but now I'm at this point building a brand new website is not fixing my problem. I don't know what to do, last time I had talked with a Comcast person he told me that he got access to my modem and then they have tried to connect my website it has been blocked by Amazon servers. That got me more confused because I have never dealt with them. I just need some clearance what I should do who to blame and needs to solve the problem. what steps that I can take? Im just a new age roofer trying to have a online appearance but without my main website its harder.
Everybody else that tried to go talyaroofing.com from their phone without an wifi can connect to it with no problem. Its for Comcast. and Squarespace has updated the SSL Protocol as they confirmed.

2024.06.08 15:32 HiddenControls Connectivity issues with one specific wifi.

Hi all, got a really frustrating issue i cant seem to find the cause of.
I believe i may have meddled with my settings a while back and forgot or something.
The wifi i use at home, allows me to connect but then shows "Secured, No internet". This only happens on this wifi, if i goto other houses i can connect to theirs fine, connect to my mobile hotspot and use ethernet. But just wifi straight to the modem doesnt seem to work.
It may also be worth noting that if i plug in my signal extender i also get the same Secured, no internet issue.
Any help is appreciated thanks

2024.06.08 14:09 TastyImagination6274 T25 Modem disconnects overnight

My 'owned' T25 Modem has disconnected overnight 'every night' for the past 4 days. I'm very rural with no cellular unless connected WiFi so using the Xfinity app to request a 'reboot' doesn't work. Is there a firmware revision or something that can be done for me to eliminate my issue? My modem and router is in the basement quite an effort to get to it.
I'd appreciate a conversation with your group.

2024.06.08 13:49 RealConfirmologist Ethernet issue with new fiber installation. Works with my PC but not a switch.

I have a run of about 100 feet of Cat 5 cable going from the back of my house downstairs, around to the front of my house and upstairs into my front bedroom home office.
I have an 8 port gigabit unmanaged switch that allows me to connect two PCs, a wireless access point (so I can give my Ring driveway camera a strong signal), and a couple of other things.
Now, the one strange part of this is that when the AT&T fiber tech came out and ran the fiber, my ethernet run was still connected to my Comcast Xfinity gateway. I have several cameras that were connected to the WAP upstairs.
I was at work when the guy was doing the installation, but I lost the upstairs cameras at some point. I figured he unplugged the ethernet run from the gateway.
When I went home to join him for configuring the new fiber gateway, I asked if he'd unplugged the ethernet. He said he'd not touched it and I confirmed it was still plugged in.
The devices connected to the Xfinity WiFi downstairs were all still working fine, but the ethernet upstairs was dead.
Mind you, this ethernet has been running fine, upstairs, for years.
No biggy, I figured I was switching to AT&T anyway. I told the guy thanks and he left.
Plugged the ethernet into the AT&T gateway and... nothing upstairs.
Ultimately I took a PC downstairs and connected ethernet and it worked immediately. Loved seeing 500+ up and down speeds. (I'm paying $48.99 a month for 500/500, and I have AT&T for my wireless phones).
Upstairs I unplugged everything and ran the wire straight to my PC and got no connectivity... for about a minute & a half.
Then it connected and I was getting 500+ up and down.
Great. I unplugged it, plugged it into my switch and plugged another cable into the switch from my PC.
Nothing. The port where I plugged the PC cord into the switch lit up, but the port I plugged the wire coming from downstairs in, did not light up.
Replacing the ethernet into my PC, after a minute or 90 seconds - boom - I get good connectivity again.
I will borrow our ethernet cable tester from work and test the ethernet run, but I'm about 90% sure it's fine.
Is it possible that the AT&T gateway is refusing to connect except when the computer is attached directly?
I'd be more confident it's a gateway issue if I hadn't lost connectivity when it was still connected to the Xfinity modem before the change to the fiber gateway.
All the testing and experimenting was done last night and this morning I started over and had the same results.
Plug into the PC, I get connection after a minute. Every time. But never immediately.
Plug into the switch, nothing. Lights on the port do not light up.
Here's a new wrinkle. I was composing this post when I lost connection. No physical movement of anything happened, I just don't think it's a loose plug on the ethernet. I spot-checked the wire run outside the house and see no areas of compromise.
Then it came back online without me doing anything.
But my speeds are 6.66 Mbps down and 9.44 Mbps up.
Also, I have tried different ports on the gateway, same results.
I realize it's highly likely to be something to do with the Cat 5 run, but understand that this cable has been in place for about 5 years and has worked perfectly until AT&T came out.
I'd be more suspicious of the cable mechanically if it didn't always come back online when plugged into my PC.
Can't imagine it works sometimes and not others.
Which is why I wonder if the AT&T gateway is refusing connection at times and allowing it at other times.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope for some good discussion.
TL;DR - Ethernet works when connected directly to a PC, after a minute. Does not ever work when plugged into a switch.

2024.06.08 08:45 Tusen_Takk 2.5GbE+ NIC hardware for homelabbing

Hey all!
I recently bought a ProLiant DL160 gen9 for selfhosting and homelabbing. I am also planning on using my old gaming computer as an opnsense router. It’s an i7-7700k with an ASUS Maximus IX hero motherboard and all PCIe slots are available for NICs. I have 1.2Gbps internet via xfinity with an SB8200 modem, but they are rolling fibre out later this year and I’d like to ensure I buy the right stuff while I’m building the new network so it’s plug and play when faster speeds become available.
I’m replacing my current Nighthawk XR500 with the above and two Ubiquiti U7 Pros, and I would prefer to only run 1 Cat6a cable from the basement to the attic, then have a small switch up there to power them and split the single line in two. I also wanna make sure that both APs get full gigabit speeds without saturating anything.
I was looking at 2.5G NICs, but wanted to make sure that I shouldn’t buy a 5GbE or 10GbE NIC. I wasn’t sure if they can negotiate various speeds (1/2.5/5/10) without issues. I’ve also been watching eBay and Facebook marketplace for second hand enterprise switches that support 2.5GbE or 10GbE, with or without SFP+, but if those prove to be too expensive, I’m obviously open to buying a more consumeprosumer grade switch.
Are there any recs for NICs and switches to support all this? Currently the plan is at least three VLANs (general, iot, cameras). Parts always throw me for a loop since there’s so many options and so many doodads to parse.
Thanks!
