2024.05.10 20:14 Bekahelen Power On - Chapter 12

Chapter 12
Log. 22675.g Finally. It has been a few months, but we did it. The most annoying part was disabling the GPS and all other self-sabotage programs. After that, it was, eh, simple. Well, as it’s said, I am the idea-person. It's amazing to see how they work as a team. In the beginning there was a lot of prejudice against the Programmer, but it’s wonderful to see organic and artificial humans working together, as equals.
After a few drinks, Bobbie seemed to forget about the secret in the boot, and started asking Séra — who was also a bit drunk, against physician’s orders — about mechanics and batteries. It didn’t take long before they were designing wind turbines to attach to the car. Ganen had to admit, it was a hard conversation to follow, but Séra would always pause and explain something when she noticed a very confused face.
When Séra asked how Bobbie had trained or studied for being able to create such an amazing bike, the Mailer told them she had grown up with the Mail Bikers, surrounded by the most amazing motorcycles, and so she learnt from the best. The main Post Offices had their own forges and labs, so it was easy to get the parts.
— My parents tried to ship me away as a baby. — Bobbie said. — The Bikers found me in a box with no return address, so they decided to keep me and raise me.
— Oi, those are some nasty parents, eh. — Séra wanted to get her bandages off. They were scratching.
— Ah, well, I guess it happens. — The Biker shrugged. — I couldn’t care less, really. How ‘bout yours?
— Parents? — Séra confirmed. — I don’t remember much of them, they died of an illness when I was young. My aunt pretty much raised me by herself.
— Oh, I’m sorry. Is it a sore subject? — Bobbie was hesitant.
— Nah, don’t ya worry about it.
— So, what do you know about Tree City? — Ganen changed the subject; Bobbie might have not noticed, but Ganen heard the discomfort in Séra’s voice. — We don’t get many bikers around there.
— I don’t know much, because, with all due respect, you guys refuse to cut down trees and make some roads! — Bobbie laughed, she was having a lot of fun with those two. She had always struggled with making friends outside the Mail system, never being in one place for long, but she wanted to know Ganen and Séra better.
— You’re more than welcome to visit, if you want. — Ganen raised her brows.
— I’d love to visit! —She got some pen and paper from her bag, and wrote some coordinates. — Do you have a map? I can mark where you’ll generally find me. — Her thin black eyes sparkled with excitement.
— It’s in the car, I’ll get it. — Séra got up and walked to the door; thinking about her parents brought up some memories, and contrary to Ganen, she didn’t know if she wanted to remember. Some fresh air would be good.
She sat on the passenger's seat and looked at the night sky. Stars blinked throughout the dark blue and the path of the Sun and the Moon was even brighter. It had a different name in the past, something related to milk, which was really funny. Séra imagined a ginormous baby crawling in the sky while their bottle was dripping.
After a deep breath, she got the map and went back inside. Her body was still sore and she was quite aware they would need longer pauses to rest, but she was eager to continue her conversation.
Log. 20657.s We did it! In the end, we didn't even need a distraction. A hysterical person entered the hospital and we were able to paralyse a Robot Physician. We turned it off right away and stuck it in the caravan. It's so much easier when we can press a button! Especially when we know where the button is! It‘s been decades since I’d done something so scary and exciting! Now we have to figure out how to break into this thing.
Bobbie ended up spending the night in the girls’ house, and wasn’t the first to wake up. She rubbed her eyes a few times and slowly recognized Ganen’s and Séra’s voices from the kitchen. She got out of bed and adjusted her t-shirt; her pants were nowhere to be found, and she didn’t really care. The perfume of coffee was the only important thing at that moment.
— You’re awake. — Ganen was the first to notice her. — Sit down, Séra is making wildberry pancakes. It’s a rare sight!
— Are berries hard to find? — Bobbie yawned.
— Not around here, so we’ve got a lot of them! — Séra flipped one in the air. — How do you like yours?
— Ahn… cooked?
— Okay! — Séra laughed; it was indeed bad having them raw.
Ganen poured some coffee for the three of them and mentioned Ahda wanted to give them a “thank you” basket for how they helped finding the cure for the grain water wasting, and that would probably cover the resources they would need for a while.
— I’d like to stop by Tara’s place before leaving, so we can say goodbye to them and Esha. — Séra added.
— Are you okay with leaving her with Tara and Ery?
— Yah, they’re good people. And I think she’ll be safer here than on the road with us.
Bobbie had heard the little girl’s story and, in the end, it wasn’t so different from hers — except for the whole almost getting killed part — and it was good to know she had also found a family for herself.
— I myself have to leave today. — Bobbie said. — There are a lot of letters to distribute.
— Oh! Are you going south? — Ganen bit her pancake.
— Yeah, and I think I might just personally deliver your letter to your aunt. — The Biker smiled. — I quite like the region. The plains are sooo good for riding! And some of the craters are large enough for a few spins.
Ganen looked a bit worried, even Séra stopped flipping pancakes and glanced at Bobbie. The Biker laughed, said it was easy; she’d been doing things like that since she was a child, so she had plenty of experience.
Breakfast was delicious and fun, Ganen and Séra promised to stop by the southern Post Office on their way back, to which Bobbie would look forward to.
— And if I’m not there, just wait a bit. — She grabbed a blue pin in the shape of an envelope from her bag and gave it to the couple. — Show them this if the Bikers give you any trouble. They’ll know it’s mine.
If they weren’t still hurting, they could have left together, but Séra needed a little more rest before hitting the road. They waved goodbye until Bobbie was out of sight, then walked slowly to Tara’s house.
Log. 20512.l We agreed that stealing a Robot Physician would be ideal.
Bobbie knew it was safer to ride with the visor down, but she loved the wind on her face, the green perfume of summer leaves, the landscape flying by her side. When she was on her bike, the world was hers to enjoy, and she felt free. A bird whose long wings could take her above the clouds to soar through the sky.
There was nothing better than sleeping below the stars, being awoken by the gentle morning sun, and enjoying the delicate dew drops on colourful petals. She liked meeting people — old and new — and seeing their smiles as they received their letters.
So when the farms started popping up around the fields, excitement filled her chest. She lowered the speed of her bike and stopped in front of a large wood and stone house. There wasn’t a Post Office in Mini Forest, so the Mail Bikers had to stop at each farm for their letters. Bobbie was one of the few who didn’t hate that area, so she knew the people quite well.
There was an old lady, Soña, who had the hairiest guinea pigs in the region, and her farm was famous for it. She always had many letters from her children, cousins, and siblings, and she would invite Bobbie for tea every time.
On her next stop, there was a child who would wait for her by the farm gate. A little boy, no older than 6 or 7, and he was excited to show her his first guinea pig: it had long wavy and rebel fur.
— Like your hair! — He pointed at Bobbie. — My mum said we can dye her fur blue, like your hair too! And I’ll name her Bluebie.
— That sounds adorable. — Bobbie laughed. — I used some indigo and henna to dye my hair, just test it first, to be sure it won’t give her any allergies.
— Okay! — He smiled, and his two front teeth were missing. The Mail Biker imagined if they would have grown by the next time she stopped there.
After the Mini Forest, there was a much bigger forest, and people had found it quite difficult to live there. If one was persistent, they could find a few people, mostly small families, who lived amongst the trees, but those would prefer to live unperturbed. It was a difficult path to go on foot or by vehicle, but Bobbie’s bike was designed for any terrain, and she ventured amongst the trees with no problem.
The travel rations were nutritious, but barely palatable, so when the biscuits Soña gave her were over, Bobbie stopped by a river to bathe and fish. The Mailers had trained her to be good at winging it, so it wasn’t hard improvising a fishing rod with some thread and a stick.
Even though unseasoned fish would taste better than the travel rations, Bobbie used to stock some seasonings in her bag — basil, rosemary, oregano, and salt — so her food was usually edible. Sometimes, it was even good! Not as good as Séra’s pancakes, though.
As the plains got closer, flowers started popping up more often, and she was forced to stop her bike, lay down on the grass, and smell the sweet little petals. Some people hated it, but she loved it. At night, myrtles opened their tiny white flowers and the air was thick with their fragrance. Bobbie could build a house there, and she would live happily ever after.
However, there was work to do, so she couldn’t laze around for more than a day. Back on her bike, she rode through the plains until craters started to change the landscape. It was said those holes on the ground were a result of the fight between the Sun and the Moon, when fiery chunks of the Sun fell and scorched the world.
Bobbie didn’t know whether the story was true or folklore, but she loved those craters nonetheless. They made cool ramps for radical manoeuvres. She liked riding in circles inside them until she could ride the walls of dirt and rock; the momentum would bring her out of it and back to the grass, then she would go to the next.
Eventually, someone from the Underground City would show up and get her letters, then she was free to ride back to the south Post Office. Bobbie wasn’t sure where the entrance to the city was, no outsider knew, and since she had to wait anyway…
— Time to find a large crater!
Some of them were large enough to make small lakes, they had fishes and frogs, a whole ecosystem. Some had moss and grass, insects, birds and rodents scattering around, and some were burnt so deep there was only burnt earth. Those were the ones Bobbie liked the most, and her eyes glistened when she found one much larger than she expected.
With a smile, she fastened her helmet, put down the visor, and sped her bike. Before she started, though, she thought it would be safer to leave her things behind — it wasn’t like anyone would show up and rob her — and she didn’t want her bags to open and let loose all her belongings and letters.
Once prepared, she sped up her bike and rode down the hole. The first spin was slow and careful, a test. The second was faster, the third had a flair and the fourth was full of little flourishes. There was no one to see, but she imagined Ganen and Séra would enjoy her show.
Thinking of them made her smile, Bobbie wanted to see the girls again, get to know them better and spend more time together. They were fun to be around. The Machine was terrifying, though, there was no way of being sure that thing wouldn’t just wake up one day and destroy the world, but she wanted to believe Ganen was right, the thing was broken and wouldn’t suddenly turn on.
And then her front wheel met a bump. Time seemed to slow down for a moment and Bobbie saw the edge of the crater too close for comfort. She had enough time to look back at the now unearthed rock before her bike crashed and the world disappeared before her eyes.
Log. 20508.o I still can't believe it, the Robot Physicians, the ones who should help us! It’s almost impossible to break into the network they use, because it’s an array network. It’d be possible to access some files, but ideally, it would be better to get one of the Physicians.
It had been about a week since Bobbie had left, and Séra was feeling up to driving again. She had fixed and reinforced the hasp in the boot, so that no one could break it, and Ganen’s arm was healing well, although the scar would probably be a bit gnarly.
Ahda had given them the thank-you basket, with enough food, drinks and water for about a week or two, depending on how they would ration it, now all that was left was saying their goodbyes. At the hospital, Ganen asked if they could take some penicillin for the trip — in case they had another situation — and Myra herself gave her a few flasks.
— We can make more on demand. — she explained. — And if it wasn’t for you, all of us would still be sick, so take as many as you need.
In their idle time, Séra also managed to attach a mini-cooling box into the car, so they could conserve the penicillin for longer and also have some fresh food and cold water every now and then. It would certainly make their trip more pleasant.
And when the sun rose on their last day in Bridge City, Séra and Ganen drove to Tara’s house for their goodbyes. The family had prepared a special lunch for them, and Esha had some trouble hiding her sad face while they were eating.
— Where are you two going now? — Tara asked.
— We’re headed south, so we’ll probably stop by Mini Forest for a day or two to rest, then continue. — Séra answered between mouthfuls.
— Are you coming back? — Esha whispered, her eyes almost didn’t reach Ganen’s.
— I believe so. Would you like us to stop by for a visit? — the woman answered with a soft, friendly tone.
Ensha nodded a few times, but there was still some sadness in her eyes.
After lunch, while Ery did the dishes, Séra asked Tara how the girl was doing, and her heart ached knowing that the kid was a bit insecure with both of them leaving. Ganen and her had talked about taking Esha along, but it would make their journey much more difficult. Besides, she was safer in Bridge City than in the middle of nowhere.
As they were about to leave, Esha held Ganen’s hand for a second and gave her a small, shiny crystal.
— What is this? — Ganen kneeled in front of her and asked with a sweet smile.
— It’s a present. Uhm, my mum, not Mrs. Tara and not the Immortal Mum, my real mum, she gave it to me when I was younger. It, uhm, it protects you. And I thought it was broken, because the Immortal hurt me, but then you two saved me, so I think it still works. — She looked into Ganen’s eyes and let out the shyest of smiles. — It’ll protect you.
— I’m sure it will. — Ganen hugged Esha and felt the girl’s little arms around her. — Thank you, Esha. If there is any problem, you can send us a letter, okay? It’s a bit expensive, but maybe if you talk to Bobbie she can give you a discount. — Ganen winked. — It’ll take a while for us to come back, but when we do, we’ll be sure to stop by, alright?
— Alright. — Esha nodded a few times, and her smile seemed real for the first time. — Thank you for saving me.
— Don’t worry about it, no child should go through something like that.
Esha hugged both Ganen and Séra one last time, and waved them goodbye until she couldn’t see the car anymore. It was Yigor who got her back in the house, when the boy asked if she wanted to play with the wooden cars and trucks. She nodded and Tara didn’t remind them of their homework; they could do it later that day.
They left in the afternoon, and once the city was far enough, Ganen plugged her music device into the car, and Séra smiled as they drove with lively old melodies. Ganen’s arm was still painful, but Séra’s cuts were mostly healed — and so were her guts.
They checked the map in order to follow Bobbie’s trail, and headed south. They wanted to stop by Mini Forest to talk to Ennath; in all honesty, Ganen wanted to see the mini-llamas once again. They were so adorable and fluffy, she even wondered if they could have one — a pet was much easier to care for than a young human.
The night came quicker than they expected, so Séra put up the tent whilst Ganen was fixing something to eat. She thought of how that whole experience was almost mystical. She had left her home more than two years ago without a date to return; at first, her goals were clear in her mind, she needed to escape her fate, but now, as she looked at Séra, there were more things Ganen wanted for her future than she could have anticipated.
— Whatcha looking at, love? — Séra sounded happy to have Ganen’s attention. — Is the tent crooked?
— Not at all, hun. — Ganen looked back to the food, she was embarrassed for being caught. — I like watching you work, that’s all. I want to remember every single thing.
— Every single thing sounds like a lot. — She hammered the last peg into the ground and looked at her job. It was good.
—It isn’t nearly enough, honey. — Ganen saw her lover walking towards her and closed her eyes in delight as she was hugged. — I love you so much.
— I love ya too. — Séra kissed her cheek. — And whatever you’re cooking smells amazing!
— I’m making a stew-soup-kind of thing. With the things that would spoil first. I hope it tastes as good as it smells.
— It’s usually how it works, ain’t it? — She got a bit confused.
— Have you ever eaten a flower? — Ganen got the pot out of the fire and set it on the floor. She had a curious and funny look as she waited for an answer.
— Not really. — Séra didn’t know what she was getting at.
— They don’t usually taste good.
Séra laughed and Ganen couldn’t help but laugh along; she was a child when she had a mouthful of tuberose. It wasn’t a pleasant experience. The dinner, however, was delicious; the meat chunks melted in their mouths and the vegetables still had a crunch to them.
They laid on the ground for a bit after eating, and the night was silent, the stars were their only company. Careful with her arm, Ganen rested on Séra’s chest and took a long breath, it was good being on the road again, without the fear of people finding the Machine — or being poisoned.
— Let’s clean up here, lock the car, and sleep in the tent? — Séra brought her back to reality.
— Yeah, let’s do that. I think the tent is more comfortable than the ground anyway. — Ganen’s laugh was interrupted by a long yawn.
— Go to the tent, I’ll lock the car and be right there with ya. — She gave her lover a tender kiss and pulled her up.
Log. 20465.k.b We need to find out why. Perhaps, if we find out the reason, we will be able to fix it! Sometimes it’s a system failure. If so... they call me a dreamer, but I think it might be possible! Who knows, even people’s memories might be there, somewhere...
Ganen’s eyes were closed, but her mind never stopped. Séra and her were old in her dreams, living in Tree City and walking around the tree-paths, then she looked around and couldn’t recognize anything. The trees, ever so familiar, were different and distorted, the sky was strange and the stars were not the ones she was used to.
She started looking for Séra, but the people didn’t have faces, their voices were unknown and their words, incomprehensible. Panic filled her chest and she started to scream, people grabbed her arms and tied her to a bed, she had no idea what was happening, where she was or who they were, until someone held her hand and called her “love”.
Ganen remembered one person, in the past, who would call her “love”, but it wasn’t the same person from the dream. She didn’t recognise those brown eyes, the freckles she used to know so well, or the dirty blonde hair around that face.
She woke up drenched in sweat, her heart was beating so fast it could jump out of her chest. At first, all around her was darkness and her panic grew until her eyes got used to the dim light. She saw Séra sleeping peacefully by her side and took a sigh of relief.
Biting her lip and trying her best not to cry, she laid down beside her lover once more and hugged her.
— I don’t want to forget you. — she whispered with tears in her eyes to the dead of night.

12 Underrated On-Screen Pairs Of Bollywood Who Deserve More Movies Together!
Have you ever seen a movie and thought- Wow! This couple looks great together, why are they not paired in movies often? Well, many such on-screen couples worked wonders when they acted as a lead pair in movies- but are still highly underrated. We have compiled a list of 12 such underrated on-screen pairs of Bollywood that many of us loved in a movie and didn’t get enough of them
1. Siddharth- Parineeti Hasee Toh Phasee
A couple that had a magical chemistry in the movie, ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’, was not much seen afterward. Their banters, friendship and understanding seemed so real in the movie- that it was hard to believe that they weren’t a real couple. Not just the couple- many fans believe that the movie was also highly underrated. What do you think of this on-screen pairing?
2. SRK- Geeta Swades
Shah Rukh Khan and Geeta won many hearts with their simplistic roles and the desi couple had an instant fan following after the movie was released. Many fans of the movie are still waiting to watch this dreamy duo appear together in a movie. Well, you never know what the future holds!
3. Hrithik Roshan- Aishwarya Jodha Akbar
Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai are such beautiful people that when they appear on the big screen- the screen lit up with their presence (no kidding!). So, when Ashutosh Gowarikar paired them in Jodha Akbar as a royal couple- their mesmerizing love story created a lot of excitement among the viewers. Even, in Dhoom 2- their Jodi received a lot of love from the audiences.

4. Sonakshi- Ranveer Lootera
Sona and Ranveer sound like an odd pairing. But, surprisingly, the two had perfect chemistry in the film,’Lootera’. And, both gave one of their best performances in the movie. So, it is natural that the viewers liked it, but since they never paired up again for another movie- they are still underrated as an onscreen pair.
5. Ranbir Kapoor- Konkana Wake Up Sid
Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen Sharma were paired together for the first time in Wake Up Sid- thanks to Ayan Mukherji. While both had very different choices of movies- Wake Up Sid was able to bring them together. Their banters, deep 3 AM terrace talks, and seeing each other grow up in life- made this movie and the couple a hit thing!
6. Irrfan- Deepika Piku
Irfan and Deepika were such an unexpected pairing and that too in a movie that was about a father who is always unhappy about his bowel movements and gets angry due to constipation! But, despite all odds- the pairing looked so happy and calm. Their camaraderie was loved by the Indian viewers and we think they would have looked amazing in even more mainstream movies.
7. Dharmendra- Sharmila Chup Chup Ke
Dharmendra and Sharmila Tagore were both top actors of their time, but they never got a chance to appear together as a pair. so, when the comedy movie ‘Chup Chup Ke’ was released- a new on-screen pair became the talk of the town! Their romance, comic timings, and chemistry were well-liked by the audiences.
8. Farhan Akhtar- Priyanka Chopra Sky Is Pink
Farhan Akhtar and Priyanka Chopra looked so great even in an ensemble movie like ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, however, they shone more in a movie like ‘The Sky Is Pink’- they portrayed the story of a couple who dated young, migrated to the US, had babies together and faced many hard times together. Not once did they make us feel that they were acting and their emotions as a couple looked so raw and real.
9. Mahie Gill- Abhay Deol Dev D
Mahie Gill and Abhay Deol are some of the most underrated actors in Bollywood. But, when they acted together in a dark comedy film like Dev D- their romance, comedy-of-errors, and tussle was like a breath of fresh air that came after all the other cheesy romance movies happened.
10. Ajay Devgn- Aishwarya Rai Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya might not have sung and danced together- but their quiet conversations, understanding, and longing for a long-term relationship are such couple goals! They are the OG couple in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie,’ Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’. Even in Khakhee and Raincoat, they look good together.
11. Amir Khan- Kajol Fanaa
Many people like the SRK-Kajol pairing, but have you seen Amir and Kajol in Fanna? Their romantic scenes would give you butterflies in your tummy! The pair looked like star-crossed lovers whom you would want to ship for an ever-after in some alternate movieverse!
12. Vicky Kaushal- Shweta Tripathi Masaan
Vicky and Shweta had a simple, sweet, and a bit complicated relationship in the movie- but they did full justice to their characters and stole the show. If you haven’t watched the movie yet- watch them together and you will know why we want to see them together in some more movies as well!
What are the names of more such couples that you wished acted as lead pairs in more Bollywood movies? Could it be Ranbir Kapoor- Priyanka Chopra, or Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt?

2024.04.06 11:00 EccentricBai Tell us what Bollywood Secrets and Scandals you learned from this sub (Recap)

Let's about some actual blinds and gossips or rumors through the grapevine?
Disclaimer : Not everything is TRUE / PROVEN, these are ONLY CLAIMS / RUMORS. Please take this with a pinch of SALT, not literally. Not to bring anyone in badlight, we are all humans at the end of the day including Bollywood folks.
Here are some that I have heard of:
• When the Aish-Salman story broke, there was some chatter of Diya Mirza sleeping with bhai for a role
Ajay broke up with Raveena to date Karishma before marrying Kajol
Hritik and Gauri
Katrina with Porn Star
Sunny Paji holding hands with Dimple
Rekha Raaj
Menage a Trois
MithunDa with SriDevi
Tabu and Nagarjuna
• There are rumors that Abhishek-Karisma broke up either cause (1) Amar Singh warned the Bachchan family that Karisma was an escort and pimped to D-gang mafia and sheikhs of dubai. or (2) that Babita (Karisma’s mom) was too concerned about Abhishek’s future in the film industry and hence started asking Bachchan family about their assets etc. (3) She found out about Aish and AB Jr fling during shooting of Kuch Na Kaho
• Sridevi married to MithunDa
Sridevi had fallen in love with Mithun Chakraborty on the sets of Rakesh Roshan's Jaag Utha Insan. But Mithun was already married to Yogeeta Bali and they had a son. Sridevi had also pleaded with Yogeeta to leave Mithun, but of course she didn't let go. Sridevi and Mithun had got married secretly and later Mithun admitted to the press. But only when a fan magazine published their marriage certificate! Yogeeta Bali took an overdose of sedatives, after which Mithun went back to his wife.
• Kareena Kapoor got pregnant at 16 and had an abortion
•Sunny PaaJi and Dimple Kapadia were and are still an item, pictures were leaked of them holding hands in London. Rajesh Khanna, the 30+ Superstar was into a relationship with Anju Mahendru when he announced his runaway marriage to a girl half his age, the 16-year-old Dimple Kapadia. Dimple at that time was romantically involved with Rishi Kapoor. The marriage was a disaster and the Superstar moved on to Tina Munim. Dimple left with her two daughters and made a dramatic comeback with Sagar opposite Rishi again. Later she was also involved deeply with Sunny Deol. As for Rajesh and Tina, their love could be measured by the fact that they would even share their toothbrush and were the first ones to start 'living together'. Later, Tina married Anil Ambani. Sanju baba & Tina Munim were living together in for close to a year before Rajesh Khanna swooped in.
• Kanti Shah was good buddies with Dharmendra and during Dharam Paajis twilight of his days he made some embarrassing B grade films with Shah in the late 90s. Dharam filmed workout scenes and Kanti Shah turned them into bed scenes during editing. A well meaning friend called the family and said if they needed money they should have asked him instead and sunny beat up Kranti. Sunny found out and he beat and threatened Kanti Shah and from that point on he stopped casting dharmendra in his B grade flops.
• A huge ruckus was created by Vivek Oberoi when he called a press conference to tell the world that Salman, blinded by his 'love' for Aishwarya had called him up 41 times in the middle of the night. Vivek went on camera sensationally charging Salman with harassment and even Aishwarya went on record saying how she was ill treated and mentally abused by Salman. Since Salman kept quiet and nothing came of it really.
• Hema was with Dharmendra and Jeetendra with Shobha. But when Hema and Jeetu started working together they fell madly in love. Secretly they decided on marriage. During an outdoor shoot they would have almost completed their pheras if Shobha and Dharmendra hadn't got a clue to the situation and rushed to the spot and brought back their respective partners.
• When Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu looked like they had the perfect marriage, out came his marriage with Asma. When Saira threw a fit and asked for a quick divorce, Dilip Kumar retracted to Saira and divorced Asma. Asma remained the loser all the way, as she had left her husband and children to be with her beloved. She tried suicide and later went back to her former husband.
• Karisma and Ajay were madly in love with each other. That was before Ajay fell madly in love with Kajol. Karisma had called Ajay one day while he was on an outdoor shoot and heard a female voice in his room. She threw a fit and left in a huff. Quickly, Kajol moved in leaving her long-standing boyfriend Kartik.
• Rekha had affair with Sanjay Dutt (then referred to as her toyboy) after she was disallowed to meet Amitabh Bachchan. Even when he was in hospital after the accident on the sets of Coolie she went in for a relationship with a vengeance and did whatever she did rather publicly. It lasted a month.
• Kamal Haasan and Sarika were in love, but not public about it for some time. But Sarika got pregnant out of wedlock. Ofcourse, Vani Ganapathy, his wedded wife, raised an uproar and went public. But Sarika went ahead and gave birth to her love child. Later they got married in 1988 and split in 2002.
• The latest was, of course, Preeti Jain who accused Madhur Bhandarkar for 'raping' her for five years. She alleged that he had promised to cast her in his film. Though it created quite a sensation and nightmare for Madhur but it fizzled out.
• Mamta Kulkarni had accused Rajkumar Santoshi of asking her for sexual favours and on not complying her role was chopped off.
• Manisha Koirala had accused Subhash Ghai of chasing her down the corridors, though later she decided to keep mum.
• Mahima Chaudhary turned coat on her mentor Subhash Ghai, after her stunning success in her debut film, Pardes, and later back-pedalled.
• Tabu had accused Jackie Shroff of attempts to rape her after calling her to his friend Danny Denzongpa's house. She apologized later.
• Chetan Anand's sons, Ketan and Vivek, were charged and sentenced to life imprisonment for conspiracy for the murder of Priya Rajvansh who had been living with their father. Later they were granted bail. Vijay Anand, too, took filmdom by storm when he married his much younger niece.
• Gulshan Kumar, the music baron, was gunned down in broad daylight in front of a temple. More shocking was Nadeem being accused of this murder and his fleeing to London, where he still lives.
• Producer Brij Sadanah gunned down his wife, daughter and son. And later killed himself. The wife and daughter died, but Kamal survived somehow. This was result of a family feud.
• Boney Kapoor's marriage to Sridevi made his first wife, Mona, livid. Once when Sridevi was pregnant they came face to face in a party, and taking the opportunity Mona's mom started assaulting her until Archana Puran Singh intervened and stopped the enraged woman.
• Rekha was seen running down a Juhu road after a fight with Raj Babbar in his office in the middle of the night. Amitabh Bachchan was waiting outside. Torn between the two men she wanted to flee from both. Amitabh in a white Ambassador tried to stop her, but she was hysterical and just kept running. Mukesh Agarwal married her and was found having committed suicide very soon after.
• SRK, Arjun Rampal and HRK were Swinger couples. but things started going off rails with Suzanne being high on coke always where Arjun was supplier and they had affair secretly without HRK knowing + Gauri's arrest in Germany broke Trios Swing club.
• Katrina Kaif was rejected by Late Rishi and Neetu Tailor because of her shady pre-Bollywood days (and probably because of the things Gulshan Grover had been saying about her). There are also rumours that Katrina was in porn business before coming to bollywood. There are some pics of her on internet with a famous male pornstar.
• Sanjay Khan beat the living daylights out of Zeenat Aman in full public view.
• Tabu had affair with marrief South Indian actor Nagarjuna and almost flew in Nagarjuna"s lap on a commercial flight • Ranveer Singh is addict (not a can of Coca-Cola).
Share / discuss some rumors or gossips you have heard?

2024.03.15 10:52 sweetalison007 Alia turns 31, I like her as an actress

I remember hating her in SOTY (I haven’t watched the whole movie even) and thinking she would be a bit cuter version of Esha Deol and be a talentless and insufferable nepo.
But, she surprised me on Highway. I was bored and downloaded the movie, and although Randeep Hooda was brilliant obviously, Aloo was very good in the movie and handled the role of Veera (not an easy character) with a nuance you don’t expect from a one-film-old actor.
‘Raazi’ made me a fan.
Although sometimes she can be entitled and make extremely cringe comments like Bhansali promising her four films, as an actress/performer she has not disappointed except for ‘Brahmastra’ and ‘Sadak’.
She is one work-crazy lady and has always given her best in most of her roles.
For me at least, she is very watchable and it’s refreshing to see a mainstream actress who is not unwilling to go that extra mile and not care about how ‘ugly’ she looks for her roles. Coz, not many young actresses would do the roles she did in Udta Punjab and Darlings.
And yes, although KJo has a huge hand in her success, he is not the sole factor. None of his other proteges - be it Jahnvi, Ananya or Sid come close to her success.
If no one liked her, solo films such as Raazi, GKB etc wouldn't have worked at the BO.

2023.12.30 21:11 Gossip-Luv2 BBNG Roundup of year 2023

The Banana recap by Reddit is good but we need our own Recap. This is our Funny recap of the year

  1. As per 2022 predictions of this Sub, SRK was gonna flop . He ended up giving 2 Blockbusters. Subreddit celebrated as if their pockets were getting filled. We maintain our record of failing to predict success even in 2023
  2. Gaddar 2 shocked everyone. It wasn’t going to make 10 cr lifetime as per Subreddit's Nostradamus
  3. Koffee with Karan became Kalesh with Karan. Kalesh with Karan was invented here.
  4. Ranveer collected awards all year. We were there in every Award post to remind each other about how fixed the awards were. This Sub made him Unfollow a shady account. We also caught with same story of meeting Anushka and DP for first time.
  5. Vicky Kaushal had sleeper hits and Katrina fans celebrated it more than SRK fans. We are proud of Sub’s Desi Jiju. Our Videshi Jiju Nickwa also did us proud. Both Desi and Videshi girls gave us 2 flavors of Jiju. Thanks Kat and PeeCee. All Inside news of Katrina being Pregnant turned out to be false
  6. Alia kept talking so much that Chup kaar is her permanent flair. After watching Archies, we have to agree, in comparison of those duds, she is Meryl Streep in Nepo universe
  7. Ranbir ends the debate of who’s better in current generation, on box office. On this Sub, he is always behind Ranveer and Vicky. Give it up, you can’t win this Sub. All those Box office updates are not working. Try erasing old interview videos but we have a copy of everything. You’re Not Winning this Sub
  8. We loved to hate watch The Archies. Archies made Ananya our new favorite and Alia the best actress.
  9. Members caught Celebs and Celeb Moms for Liking a Hate/ Troll posts on Instagram
  10. Hearts were broken when Ananya dating ARK was confirmed. Condolences to all those who lost their chance to marry Sub’s heartthrob
  11. Sharaddha maintained her position of Sub’s Sweetheart. It is also due to some tharki Mods and members. Sid-Kiara are our new favourite couple
  12. Deepu gave us good excuse - In my mind . Don’t try this stunt at home I cleaned my room, in my mind. Only stunner like Deepu can pull it off
  13. Abhi - Ash ke Ghar ke Kalesh was on and off till Aradhya showed up in her Annual function. Way to go Aradhya, change the gossip to talent talk. Jaya’s Idhar Aao GIF is most used GIF on this Sub.
  14. South Vs Bollywood debate is put to rest with help of SRK and RK who used South Directors to save Bollywood
  15. We had mind numbing debates on many issues still the most upvoted post was - Paps calling Hollywood Celebs - Aye Jendayaa
  16. This Sub toppled all other Indian Subs and became No.1 Indian Subreddit. Gossip >> Anything
  17. We don’t like Nepos and we make it clear in 1000000 topics about them.
  18. Orry is famous and some people suspect we have a hand in it. He validated us by doing AMA here.
  19. Bebo is our new humble star icon. Her anti fans keep reminding her old sins but she is firmly winning in this Sub
  20. Even Maheep doesn’t talk as much about Shanaya Debut as this Sub.
  21. Suhana, Khushi and Agastya are OUT of our hearts. Ananya, Aradhya and Abram are our new favorites.
  22. Ibrahim, the time remover and Bobby Deol’s son are on our horizon now. We are waiting to declare them as new heartthrobs . Ananya stole ARK, we deserve new object of affection
  23. Deol family had a W year. Boobians and Lord Bobby got validation from Lord himself. Naiyo Naiyo
  24. Subreddit was showing as Banned for nearly 2 hours due to some Reddit glitch. Many people had interesting conversation/jokes on who got us banned. Jaya B was our prime suspect
  25. Subreddit will end the year with Kalesh of Dunki Vs Salaar. Mods have collected all box office money and left for holiday. See you in new year
These are our highlights of 2023. Add yours in comments

Happy new year to all Gossipers from Zaalim Mod Team.

2023.12.16 10:28 bhuvi1OOx Celebrity Encounters Part 1

Late Suresh Chatewal – He was in my father’s group, where they used to hang out at this restaurant opposite our house. This is our evening kebabs and whisky, he was basically a comedian so he used to always joke around but I recall his 1 skit, where he kinda played the new wait staff, acting as if he has done something wrong and nervously telling them “ Aree Waiter, zara jaldi “ – it was so funny.
Vicky Nihalani (yup, ur fav censor chiefs eldest son) were in the same school/batch so met quite a few at his place but the most memorable one was Govinda after Ilzaam. He asked us a copy of the song “Back to life” presumably so they could make a Hindi version of it
Shehnaz Treasurywala – There wasn’t a single guy who didn’t wanna be with her – first time I saw her in her school uniform at the Gymkhana poolside (1990), everyone wanted to know her. One of my friends dated her so met her few times, pick up, pass msgs etc. and there were some massive friendship betrayals, cheating etc. coz basically everyone wanted to date her
Ritesh Sidhwani – He was living in the same bldg. as my best friend (maybe still is), came to my place once to exchange Nintendo games (or Samurai in India) but I found him extremely rude. I mean who wouldn’t be - Heir of Hawkins pressure cooker, brand new red Maruti at age 15. I later knew of him and his wife and were dating since many years
Bobby Deol – There used to be this film joint called Piano Bar at Kemps Korner, I don’t think there would be a single celebrity who didn’t visit this place. Like literally everyone – example - https://i.imgur.com/pyoQhqh.jpg. Bobby was a regular and we use to see him at other clubs, all OK but once he was in the parking lot and Pooja Bhatt has just dumped him. My drunk friend commented (inside my car) that he is so heartbroken that he can’t even find his car. We drove off and he called us from behind, we stopped thinking he may need a lift or help finding his car. He came up to my window and said “who spoke about Pooja”, and wrist slapped my car. His 3-4 tall 6 packed guys came at the same time, slapped my friend sand said let’s take out outside the club. We assumed we were done and its gonna be a bad one, but Bobby had a change of heart, he came up and asked if we were ever heartbroken and its not right to tease, started to hug us and we were like yeah man, we know how it feels and fked off as soon as we could
There used to be s show called Film Deewane (an older version of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyvDayQL1oE ) and I wanted to enter it badly.) – Arun Bakshi was my father’s client (Finance/Accounting) and I asked him to request Shekhar Suman for it. I made it to the set, he was pretty nice to me and my friends, but the director said we could only play in the Meena Kumari special which was a bummer so we ended up in the audience. Shekhar was nowhere to be found later
Zarina Wahab came to my place as she was my mother friend’s friend, I visited their house and met Mr. Pancholi once
Mithun and his 2nd or 1st wife (can’t recall her name) was my aunt’s neighbor, she used to cook awesome fish and loved kids
We were members of Lion’s Club so had lot of filmi connections so got to see trial shows, shooting etc. This was one was pretty awesome, we were invited to a bungalow shooting for a movie called “Dekha Pyar Tumhara” and we were supposed to enter from the back door but instead we came in the man door where Suresh Oberoi and Rati were doing a scene – if you see the scene – https://youtu.be/rZ-bnRJnn0Q?t=2h13m47s (2:13:00) – it was really embarrassing. I later met Kamal Hasan in there who was laughing at the whole thing. >> CUT TO 14 YEARSLATER <<< I was in Delhi and staying at my father’s clients place where were drinking 1 night and he told me he was an ex-movie director ( Virendra Sharma ) and he made the move above, funny, we never knew him then but I told him we had gate crashed it during his shooting – small world
I went to St. Theresas High School - Alumni: Javed Jaffrey, Atul Khatri, Terence Lewis. I was a good break dancer in school, performed with Javed Jaffrey for "Bhopal Gas Tragedy Charity event" at Rang Mandir - which was behind my school ( if anyone recalls this scene from the movie Angoor ) - https://i.imgur.com/7Aecson.jpg. During my school time A) Met Mother Teresa B) Met Pope John Paul II after standing in the sun for 4 hours
Hotel Sun n Sand - the iconic hotel and restaurant where they have shot numerous movies, eg., "Qurbani's Laila Mein Laila", the brick layered circular restaurant with its dance floor, this was your celeb magnet, any night of the week - you are assured to meet someone there. I have seen few but I recall working hard to get an autograph from Late Deven Verma. He was basically fooling around by asking to bring proper paper, or pen and ask my height, just for kicks. He not only gave me an awesome autograph but also treated me to a goldspot.

2023.12.04 23:56 EccentricBai Exposed Reposted - Sonam Kapoor - How much do you still agree with?

https://imgur.com/a/XNAgzrA
I usually begin these articles by stating that I don't think the celebrity doesn't have any redeemable qualities. I still stand by that. The line between criticism and hate is quite thin, and one I don't intend to cross.
With this out of the way, I can positively say that I geniunely don't care about what happens to sonam Kapoor. I don't think she geniunely cares either. She is wrapped up in her little impenetrable bubble that cannot be popped, even by the harshest of criticisms. The root cause of all her antics is her inability to see through her own hypocrisy. Whether it's being born with a silver spoon that has caused this, or the multiple yes men surrounding her, I don't know. It is also not my place to draw a conclusion to this. I am here to simply show you concrete evidence. I am neither the judge, jury or executioner in anyway. Just someone who collects facts and presents them to the public.
I understand that some people might be upset with the title, and might have a misunderstanding of what this series is about. It is not intended to blacklist a celeb, merely to call them out on their own actions.
Everything I am posting right now are her words and her words alone. I have not given way to any speculation.
Let's start, shall we. Perhaps with needlessly sensational headers this time, following Sonam's footsteps.
FAKE VEGAN?
Sonam Kapoor latches on to the fact that she is vegan. She proudly stated that she was a full blown vegetarian for 4-5 years before becoming a vegan in 2016. She has talked about this in multiple interviews and it can be inferred that this can be considered to be a part of her whole image.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.adgully.com/shahid-kapoor-and-sonam-kapoor-crowned-peta-s-hottest-vegetarians-70251.html%3famp=1
She has literally cried about fish dying in interviews and the state of animals in the country.
She was named PETA's Vegetarian person of the year in 2016( and claims to have been one 4-5 years prior to receiving this award) and was named PETA India's vegan person of the year in 2018.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.economictimes.com/magazines/panache/sonam-kapoor-a-vegan-named-peta-indias-person-of-the-year-for-2018/amp_articleshow/67140518.cms
BUT OH! What's this, your own trainer and diet planner says that you have fish? That too in the later half of 2018? After getting all those awards?
https://www.instagram.com/p/BkcfjSwjkZg/
Tsk tsk tsk...smoked salmon and grilled fish?On one hand you cry about fish's and on the other had you have a dead piece of one on your fork.
You have got awards for being vegan, repeatedly said this fact...faking it would be manipulative to a fault. Of course it wouldn't matter to a large section of the public if you were non veg, but you want to seem like the most progressive person in India.
HYPOCRITICAL
-ME TOO
https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.timesofindia.com/entertainment/hindi/bollywood/news/metoo-sonam-kapoor-reveals-why-bollywood-celebrities-remained-silent-on-the-movement/amp_articleshow/67509139.cms
Sonam says that women in Bollywood fear not being trusted and supported. I agree with her on this. It's not only an industry issue either. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ndtv.com/entertainment/sonam-kapoor-on-metoo-women-are-taking-incredible-risk-to-tell-their-stories-we-owe-them-our-trust-a-1946895%3famp=1&akamai-rum=off
'Women are saying amazing stories and we should show them our love and support'
Why that's quite a stand up statement there! Great job!
But oh no....your director rajkumar hirani did it. Let's wait for the verdict and not judge him at all.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thenews.com.pk/amp/426003-sonam-kapoor-on-rajkumar-hirani-metoo-allegations-dont-derail-the-movement
You are saying this allegation derails the movement and indirectly insinuating that it's fake? Simply because Hirani was part of it?
Oh my...how hypocritical of you.
-CRACKER FREE DIWALI, AND A SMOKE FILLED LONDON
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wtzDicMq6W0 Sonam urged people to not blow crackers during Diwali. I support her on this, and I think she is right here.
But of course,if London does it, it's all well and good. In fact, she even posted picture of New year's celebration. With all those fireworks in the air.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bollywoodhungama.com/amp/news/features/pollution-free-diwali-crusaders-sonam-kapoor-taapsee-pannu-slammed-hypocrisy-fireworks-new-years-eve
-CASTING COUCH
You might start seeing a pattern by now. Sonam condemns an activity as long as it's progressive, but excuses it when someone close to her does it.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.independent.ie/style/celebrity/celebrity-news/bollywood-superstar-sonam-kapoor-on-casting-couch-culture-weve-been-taught-to-laugh-it-off-and-pretend-youre-dumb-36504912.html
WoMen ShOuLd Be TruStEd A LoT. CasTinG CouCh BaD.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.deccanchronicle.com/amp/entertainment/bollywood/260418/sonam-swara-keep-mum-on-saroj-khans-casting-couch-remarks.html
lEtS JuSt SkIp ThE ToPic, ProMiSe I ShaLl AnsWer It LatEr. never addresses it
If you feel so strongly about such topics? Where do all those feelings go when you actually have to side with what you believe in?
You have told us to stop our sons from being spoiled, and to call out anyone who does wrong things and to support the woman at all costs multiple times. All these things get thrown out of the window when you are given the choice to do what you believe in and what you don't believe in,and are appalled by, as per your own words.
-NAME CALLING
For Sonam kapoor, any problem is misogynistic and any person for criticizing her can be reported for harassment.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/bollywood/sonam-kapoor-reacts-on-meat-ban-trends-on-twittelite/
Calls meat ban misogynistic? I mean what? WHAT?
Later claims that general mentality expressed in the article was misogynistic. then shouldn't you have clarified that? it's not like Twitter's word limit is 40 characters..
Of course, she then says that people shouldn't name call others in the thread. Tells women should be disappointed because she didn't expect them to call her a bimbo. Spends quite some time condemning them for resorting to name calling.
Calls someone a moron in the same thread
How very mature of you Sonam.
Another Twitter fiasco that happened was quite well documented. Sonam complained about traffic and global warming. Guy called her out for sitting in a luxury car, and having a big house with numerous ACs,which directly increases global warming. He tells her she is equally responsible for global warming.
Sonam responds by saying:
AND IT'S BECAUSE OF MEN LIKE YOU THAT WOMEN FIND IT DIFFICULT TO USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT FOR THE FEAR OF BEING HARASSED
So Sonam just called a man a harasser and insinuated that he was a sexual predator for criticising her, MIND=BLOWN.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bollywoodhungama.com/amp/news/bollywood/ouch-sonam-kapoor-calls-man-harasser-told-equally-responsible-global-warming/
Of course, she took a really, really short break from Twitter because of all the negativity. Poor her for getting repurcussions for calling a person a sexual predator for no reason whatever.

Again, you can call people dumb all you want, but if people make fun of you for saying statements like 'people who are not good looking are considered to be good actors' or thinking this was 7 triangles automatically makes you the brutally trolled victim.

-DEEPIKA-SONAM FEUD
When Deepika talked about mental health awareness online, Sonam's response was that if she were ever to associate with a cause, she wouldn't go and flaunt it on social media. When that's literally what she does multiple times an year. I honestly fail to see how she cannot see this. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.indiatoday.in/amp/movies/gossip/story/deepika-padukone-sonam-kapoor-fight-koffee-with-karan-351371-2016-11-10
RESPONSETONEPOTISM
https://www.google.com/amp/s/indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/bollywood/sonam-kapoor-on-nepotism-i-just-laughed-through-the-whole-thing-4981247/lite/
Get this, sonam posted the definition of nepotism, insinuating that people are idiots for not getting it. Concluded that everyone and everything stems from nepotism in the industry. Us regular folks just don't know it's basic definition. Einstein must be rolling in his grave right now
OPINIONS OF THE YOUTH
When the censor board cut out sonam showing a middle finger on the screen (which imo isn't justified and very narrow-minded, but given how strict the censor board is, wasn't a surprise.)
Sonam's way about it was quite wrong. She believed it was the language of the youth.
https://www.news18.com/news/india/showing-middle-finger-is-no-big-deal-for-sonam-429975.html
I think it perfectly portrays what she thinks the majority of the people in India are too. Her perception of feminism is vastly different from the kind of feminism India might need right now. And it's very important to listen to people who criticise it rather than labelling them as sexists. She comes from a very different background and should realise this. Either Understand why several women think you aren't empowering or ignore them, don't name call them and think they are beneath you for having a different opinion.
ABHAYDEOL controversy
Abhay deol criticised Sonam for spending a significant part of Aisha's budget on costumes and design instead of focusing on the story. Needless to say, Sonam was already pissed of at him because he said this. Stating that she was absolutely shocked he would say such a thing.Anil Kapoor also remarked that Abhay Deol was in need of some help.
Later on,when abhay deol called out several celebs for promoting skin lightening creams, Sonam was one of them.
Her response? Show his sister esha deol promoting a fairness cream brand. Abhay admitted she was wrong to do so.
Sonam later said she is more mindful of the brands she promotes now. Accepting her mistake only after taking his sister down with her.
What's ironic is that several of the adds she has done are something she would classify as sexist.
For example, this snickers commerical, based on the 'you are not you when you are hungry', was criticized by a vocal minority because it portrayed women as bratty when they were hungry. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yf39vt0MKug
If she didn't get paid for it, I am 100% sure Sonam Kapoor would support this vocal minority.
ZEROACCOUNTABILITY
In the rare instance that Sonam Kapoor apologises, she fails to take in any accountability for herself.
When Sonakshi Sinha complained that Sonam Kapoor showed her quite a bit of attitude, Sonam's response was the classic ' I have been nothing but kind to you, I am sorry YOU felt that way.' https://www.google.com/amp/s/indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/bollywood/sonam-kapoor-apologises-to-sonakshi-sinha-5059268/lite/

2023.12.04 18:28 Spider6815dev103kat What if Animal released on 11th August

Animal is running strongly on box office and going by present box office collections it may even break into 500cr club with gadar2, jawan and pathan.
What do you think if animal got released on 11aug it's original release date with the likes of Gadar 2 and OMG 2 who would won the race.
My vote goes to Gadar 2 beating Animal by atleast 50-100 cr as craze of Sunny Deol's well established character Tara Singh was on next level.
What's your take on it and why?

2023.10.20 12:23 writerrani News flash- audience doesn’t dislike nepo kids, we dislike untalented nepos producers dump on us.

No one has a problem with talented nepo kids. Look at Kareena, Hritik, Rani , Kajol. Or even the likes of Shahid who has given less than handful of hits but can act and dance & no one questions his talent.
Problem is when untalented nepos are given film after film and paid PR wants us to believe how great they are in their films. And then we see those films and realise how bad they are. I mean Ananya, Jahnavi, Sara are terrible. As are Arjun Kapoor , Tiger Shroff and now even Varun Dhawan feels unbearable on screen. Ishaan khatter has no screen presence, These ‘actors’ are bad at their job and that’s why people don’t want to watch their films and criticise them.
Give us talented, good looking , charming actors and no one will care whose son or daughter they are. Salman , Aamir , Ajay , karishma , Kajol , Tabu-who is the sister of the well known 80s heroine Farah, Hrithik, Kareena, Saif, Akshay Khanna have all done well.
Similarly Esha Deol, Zayed Khan, Fardeen Khan, Uday Chopra who were all terrible actors had to bow out after doing dozen odd films. Imagine if KJo had made ‘My Name is Khan’ with Esha & Abhishek Bachchan, no one would have gone to see it. Or if Bhansali had made ‘Devdas’ with Bobby Deol & Twinkle Khanna. So that’s where the problem lies - making us all suffer bad acting because producers are friends with the nepo kids parents and grandparents. Give us talent and you’re sorted.

Memory Transcription Subject: Johan, human technician
Date [Standard Human Reckoning]: 2136-12-08
The krakotl turned their back on me, their blue feathers glistening in the corridor light. The sight propelled my mind back to the invasion, back to lying on the observation room floor with Vani. Our eyes were glued to the transparent ceiling, where above us a nightmarish tableau unfolded in low orbit, swirling dogfights, bursts of plasma, and streaks of falling debris. The comforting chants of Gojid emanated from the camp speakers and offered solace, but they couldn't dispel the undercurrent of fear that one of those bombs could plummet down on us.
It took the krakotl a moment to become aware of the rush of venlils toward Vani and me.
"Johan," a voice tried to penetrate my distracted consciousness, but my mind was embroiled in too much turmoil to respond.
Finally, the krakotl noticed the influx of venlils and turned to locate the source of the commotion. Our eyes locked, and my fingers clenched, nails digging into my palm. A rush of memories overwhelmed me. I thought of Jakarta, of the footage showing the moment a bomb detonated over National Monument Park, turning matter into energy. The aftermath left us a smoldering crater, wiping out centuries of culture and history in an instant. Though I escaped the immediate horror, the sheer scope of the destruction had once left me sobbing in an airship.
"Johan?" The voice, now laced with deeper concern, tugged at my attention again, I recognized it as Kaisal.
I must have recoiled or snarled, for the krakotl's eyes widened in shock before they retreated into one of the rooms lining the hall.
"Johan, are you all right? You're showing your teeth, and not in a good way," said Kaisal, his snout breaking into my field of vision and pulling me back to the present. I glanced around to see venlils of various fur tones and sizes encircling us. Everyone's ears are drooping except Vani's.
"Ah, yes, sorry," I said, shaking my head as if to dislodge the disturbing images. "I had some thoughts."
"You saw Nurlel, didn't you?" Kaisal asked, his eyes narrowing.
"Is that the krakotl's name?"
Kaisal's ears twitched in a way that signaled affirmation.
"Yes, I...," I exhaled a resigned sigh. "I didn't expect to see a krakotl here."
"Like many krakotls on Venlil Prime, she ended up here because of political reasons," Kaisal explained. "She opposes the invasion. But she's just a citizen, and not of the krakotl alliance even."
At some logical level, I understood. After all no krakotl would grace Humanity's Friend if they harbored even the slightest ill will towards humans. But that understanding didn't make me feel any more comfortable with her presence.
"I understand," I conceded, lifting my hand in a conciliatory gesture. "It's just that—never mind. I should apologize for glaring at her."
"We can ask her if she’d like that," Kaisal suggested.
Throughout our chat, I noticed the expressiveness of Kaisal's body language, his ears, his tail, and his overall movements. It looked far more expressive than what I'd observed in Vani. As if in conversation with Kaisa, other venlils around move in harmony with him. I thought of their physical expressiveness as simple emotional cues. I see now that their body language can act as a sophisticated non-verbal communication.
"Hold on a second," I broke in. "You're not leaving Ramatu to manage the booth by herself again, are you?"
"No, another venlil has taken my place at the booth," Kaisal assured me. "Besides, Ramatu insisted that I was the best choice to show you around."
As I collected myself, I took in the hall I stood in. It extended deep into the building, ending with a couple of large doors at the far end, just like the one I came in from. Smaller doors lined both sides of the hall at regular intervals along. I presume that each leads to different classrooms or meeting spaces. I also noticed that the architectural style didn't quite fit the venlil design language I had grown familiar with. Its sharp angles and rigid lines diverged from the rounded edges I'd come to associate with them.
"Did humans contribute to the construction here?" I asked.
"Indeed," Kaisal confirmed. "When I pitched the concept to UNOFA. They found the concept compelling enough to aid in the construction of this space."
Just then, a venlil poked their head out from the door where Nurlel escaped too. "Nurlel agreed to speak with you," they announced.
I walked toward the door from which the venlil had emerged. The rest of the group trailed a respectful distance behind. I thought of a flock of sheep and tried to wipe it from my mind. I shouldn't compare them to animals.
The bilingual sign next to the door read "Cooking Class" in both English and Ventongue. Peering inside, I saw Nurlel. Her vibrant plumage stood out against the sterile, organized cooking stations. She stood in the middle of the room, as if unsure where she belonged.
"Uh… hi," I began.
"Hello," she replied, extending her wings in a way that revealed three hooked claws at each tip. Her people looked like an amalgamation of a turkey and a deinonychus.
"I apologize for my earlier reaction," I said in an attempt to ease the tension.
She gestured across her feathered body with her wing. "And I apologize for… the invasion, I suppose?"
I shook my head. "No, I can't hold you responsible for the actions of your government on...uh...Shintal" I hesitated, grappling for the name of her homeworld.
"Nishtal," she supplied.
"Right, Nishtal," I nodded. "You're a citizen of Venlil Prime now, aren't you?"
She extended her wings in a motion I interpreted as a shrug. "Yes, I've secured permanent residence for a few years now, and recently, I became a citizen."
"So you haven't set your foot back on Nishtal since you left?" I asked.
Her eyes took on a wistful cast as she looked away. "I would like to, but I don't have a home to return to anymore."
"What do you mean, 'no home left'?" Someone who stood beside me asked. I looked to my right and found Janji. I realized that the other venlils had filled the room.
"You didn't know?" Nurlel questioned, tilting her head.
"Until several paws ago, I had spent my time on an arxur farm," he explained.
"Oh..." Nurlel's gaze shifted between me and Vi as if seeking some form of clarification.
"What happened to Nishtal?" Janji pressed.
"Human authorities directed arxurs toward Nishtal," she responded.
Janji's eyes narrowed, looking between me and Vi. "You sent arxurs to destroy her world?"
Nurlel interjected, "To clarify, humans didn't order the arxurs to invade. They informed the predators that with the krakotl fleet engaged elsewhere, Nishtal had nothing to protect it."
"Does the intention even matter?" Janji's voice trembled. "Arxurs tore my life apart. How can you sound so nonchalant about it? They slaughtered your people!"
Nurlel's looked between me and Vi again. "Human authorities did alert the invasion force, giving them time to return and fend off the arxurs."
Janji persisted, "But you mentioned your homeworld lies in ruins now. What happened?"
Before anyone could answer I stepped in. "Their invasion force chose not to return. They let their own world fall."
I remember the time when Dunyab, the gojid girl, sent a heartfelt message to the invaders and they replied with a callous message.
A heavy silence descended upon the room, and after a while, Vi broke the stillness. "Desperation can push us into actions that we won't do under normal circumstances."
Janji let out a disdainful scoff. "How convenient of you to use desperation to justify acts of horrors."
Nurlel spoke, "Desperation serves as a far more palatable motive than sheer hatred. We wanted to do to Earth what the arxurs did to Nishtal. Despite warnings about the arxurs coming to our planet, the extermination fleet didn't pull back from their quest to annihilate Earth. What does that say about us krakotls?"
Janji's eyes scanned the room, examining the various venlils who had absorbed the conversation. "So, no one here takes issue with this?" He said, perhaps trying to find support.
"And you don't take issue with humans being threatened with extinction?" Kaisal spoke up. "Before the invasion, they begged in a Federation summit for the galactic community to give them a chance. By the stars and the voids between, they were willing to die for us! One of them died for me!"
"We... had a summit?" Janji's disdain had gone away and the venlil now sounded unsure.
Another venlil answered, "Yeah, we did. The kolshian tried to kill diplomats that tried to extend a paw of friendship toward the humans."
Kaisal pressed on, "So? What do you want humans to do?" The pitch of his voice rose, which signed agitation in venlil. "Lay down and let the extermination fleet wipe them out?"
Janji paused, at a loss for words. "I... don't know."
Kaisal's expression changed. Even without a deep understanding of venlil body language, I could feel rage emanating from him. "They negotiated for your release, you ingrate!" he spat.
"Enough!" Vi intervened. "Look... for most of you the arxurs might be some abstract horror. But Janji lived it every day until his release." She turned her attention to Janji, who looked smaller. "Would you like some time alone?"
"Y...yeah." Janji hesitated. "I… I need time to process this."He took a few steps backward, and the venlils in the room stepped aside, granting him an exit from the cooking class. Vi paused for a moment before following him.
Vani turned to me. "Should I go after them?"
"Maybe you should?" I replied, unsure. "Janji might find another venlil's presence comforting."
"I'll watch over them as well." Vani's mother declared. The two venlil then exited the class too, going after Janji.
As the atmosphere lightened, Nurlel seemed contemplative. "Maybe I shouldn't have brought up Nishtal."
"He would've learned about it sooner or later," I assured her. "And Nurlel, I'm sorry for what happened to your homeworld. I wish... this doesn't have to happen."
Nurlel just nodded in response.
Kaisal's demeanor seemed to soften as another venlil rubbed his back and whispered something soothing in his ear. "I apologize for getting heated," he said. "Now Vani has to console him, and I can't show him around."
"Well… Vani can have his own session," I suggested. "For now, how about you show me and Vichak around?"
With that, Kaisal led us through the facility. After leaving the cooking class, we entered a language classroom. "Language learning seems to be more of a human pursuit. Most of us only learn other languages if we want to make a career in interstellar diplomacy."
"I've been picking up Swahili," he continued. "It was Moïse's native language."
"Have you tried learning English?" I asked.
He laughed. "I've tried, but English writing just doesn't make sense to me."
"Ep esha ifit charu te-jengel u-venlil" I retorted, grinning.
"Okay, fair point, but venscript at least has reg- wait." he turned back at me. "say that again"
Repeating the phrase, I explained, "Even venlil script has its challenges."
Kaisal's ears perked up in astonishment. "Wow, that wasn't translated! You've picked up Venspeak!"
"I mean, it's not that rare, right?" I shrugged.
Kaisal's tail swayed with amusement. "Well, a lot of humans have learned our language, but they live in our homeworld. I never expected someone from Earth to pick it up."
"Well... considering Johan and Vani-" Vichak paused for several beats. "-spend time together all the time. I can see how he ended up learning our language."
During the tour, I noticed that a variety of shawls and vests adorned the venlils in the HF. Kaisal led us toward the source, a sewing class.
"At first we tried human-style clothing," Kaisal explained, "but the fabric rubbed our furs in the wrong way, so we adapted."
Through the door of the classroom, I spotted a human working on a venlil mannequin telling them about the basics of creating patterns from a scanner. The garment they crafted looked like a sleeveless jacket, designed to work with the venlil's fur thickness.
"On Earth, you've industrialized clothing production, haven't you?" Kaisal asked.
"True," I replied, tugging at my vest. "A machine-made this. But I think bespoke clothing suits your people well, for accessories."
"I love having more pockets, myself." chimed in a venlil who wore an apron much like Vani's.
Our next destination was less academic, a mixed-species gaming room. Here I saw venlils and humans playing all sorts of games, from tabletops to VR simulations. Adjacent to the room they also have a nursery where young venlils and human kids play under adult supervision.
By the end of the tour, I found myself carrying a hefty bag full of snacks as a farewell gift.
Standing at the threshold of the Humanity's Friends facility, Vichak pondered aloud, "I wonder if you have plans to expand this initiative to other cities."
Kaisal's eyes brightened. "Perhaps your city can have this sort of facility too? Where do you live anyway."
"Just one Beltline stop away from the capital, in Kleran," Vichak answered.
"What a coincidence! Incidentally, we are indeed considering expanding to Kleran. Maybe you could assist us?" Kaisal proposed.
"Perhaps." Vichak allowed. "I do have a few human kids in my school who would benefit from this kind of facility."
"Isn't that Janji over there?" Kaisal squinted, focusing on a figure sitting on a bench.
Following his left eye line of sight, I saw Janji sitting between Vani and Pintal, all of them enjoying a potong ice cream sandwich. Vi stood beside them, munching on a similar ice block enveloped in a slice of bread. I glanced at the booth that Kaisal and Ramatu used to staff and noticed it had a new vendor.
As we approached, the ground beneath my feet gave away with each step. I found myself contemplating what it'd feel like to walk barefoot on this planet. Perhaps this explains why venlils don't wear shoes.
"Hey, Johan! How did the tour go?" Vi greeted us.
"Very enlightening," I said, glancing at the venlils. Janji had finished his ice cream.
"Those are coconut milk ice cream, aren't they?"
"Yes, the vendor said they're from your country," Vichak said. "We tried something similar in Nusantara Capital. There, they add a sprinkling of fluffy bread rather than wrapping the ice block in it." She took another bite. "I love your fluffy bread."
"Hey... Janji." Kaisal said. "I'm sorry for calling you Ingrate. I... couldn't imagine how harrowing your experience must be."
Janji finished the last morsel of his treat, before speaking.
"I owe everyone an apology too, especially humans.."
"For what?" I queried.
His eyes averted. "I made an unfair judgment when Vi mentioned how people sometimes do terrible things to survive. It didn't occur to me that I had been in the exact same boat. You don't spend years in an arxur farm without making doing something heinous."
"You didn't have much of a choice." I offered.
"I could've ended it all back at the farm," Janji retorted. "But I chose to live. What does that make me?"
"A survivor," Vani cut in. "We all have the drive to survive."
"Shall we call it a day?" Vi steered the conversation elsewhere. "We can head back and unwind before the last meal. Johan, have you sorted out your lodging?"
"I found a spot at a human refugee complex," I said. "I checked its availability on our way from the restaurant to the HF Center. They had open rooms. How about you all?"
"We'll have Vani join us at our hotel," Pintal demanded.
Before I could voice any reservations, Vichak added, "Yes! It's been too long since we've had a meal together as a family. It would be nice."
I hesitated, Then it struck me, if Vani stayed with me, how would that look to Janji, who still had no clue about Vani and me? Realizing the potential awkwardness of the situation, I acquiesced. "That sounds like a wonderful idea."
"I'll be at the human refugee complex as well," Janji disclosed. "I can't stay in the rescue apartments any longer."
That remark implied a lot of history that I don't think I wanted to probe. Besides, the moment didn't seem right for deeper questions.
"By the way...can I interest you two, Vani and Pintal in a tour of the HF facility?" Kaisal said.
"Sure... that would be nice!" Pintal agreed.
We bid a brief farewell to Vani and his family and set off with Vi. During the drive, I caught glimpses of Janji in the rearview mirror and he looked as tense as ever. I opted to focus on my pad, reading about the refugee complex. The complex consisted of several blocks of mid-rise apartments. Each block itself had a collection of individual buildings. Each one of the blocks had an open garden community space.
Upon arrival, I saw that the ground floor opened to the outside world, housing laundromats, convenience stores, and even cafes. When the car drove in front of the lobby, my glasses informed me they had detected Earth-based protocols and deactivated the gateway device.
"Here we are," Vi announced.
As soon as I stepped on the hard terran-style ground, my glasses painted a floating imaginary line. Following it would lead me to my designated room.
"Thanks for the ride," I told her.
"You're welcome," Vi replied. Out of Janji's sightline, she made a subtle hand gesture, and my glasses alerted me to an incoming message titled "Read Later!"
I looked at her and she gave me a slight nod.
Upon entering the building, I discovered Janji lived a few doors down from mine. Despite him sticking like a sore thumb, the other human seemed to ignore his presence. After setting my luggage down I took a moment to explore the center's facilities. Beyond the expected laundromat, dining hall, and multipurpose hall, the block also had a gym. The call of the weights was too strong to resist, so I squeezed in a solid workout before returning to my room.
After a refreshing shower, I sank into the plush bed. The window to my right had darkened to simulate a day-night cycle lasting for venlil 20-hour "timepaw." As the guidebook had suggested, I have also set my clock to an ad-hoc time system where each "hour" lasted 50 Earth minutes. It should help me to stay oriented on this unchanging planet.
I almost forgot to read Vi's note. Deciding that it was the best time, I opened it.
"Hi Johan,
Janji has stayed here several Timepaws without incident. The one episode with the therapist happened just once at the beginning of his therapy. However, for caution's sake, try not to be alone with him in confined spaces. In any case, he has a tracker on him, like Vani during his weeks on Earth."
I thought back to Janji's encounter with the krakotl Nurlel and Kaisal. He hadn't resorted to violence then and hopefully not now.
"Of course, we didn't leave him in the refugee center alone, you can find the details of Janji's case worker below. Feel free to contact them if you have concerns or want to change your housing to put a distance between you and Janji."
I tried to catch up on the news, but headlines about the trial of Kalsim, the krakotl General who invaded my planet, soured my mood. So I ended up napping instead.
The chime of my room's doorbell jolted me awake. A quick glance through the camera inset in my glasses revealed Janji standing outside.
I slid the door open, revealing the venlil in front of me.
"Johan," his greeting sounded more like an attendance roll call than a casual hello. "May I come in?"
Recalling Vi's note I suggested. "How about we grab a meal in the dining hall?"
"If that's what you'd prefer," Janji responded,
As we exited the building, the skies of Venlil Prime remained in a warm glow even at "19 o'clock" by my adjusted timekeeping. With humans everywhere, the refugee complex felt like a home away from home. The dining hall served a welcoming environment that offered free meals to all residents. They even had ovo-lacto vegetarian options.
As we entered the dining hall, the sound of my boots reverberated off the tile floor, contrasting with the soft clicking of Janji's clawed feet. The smell of familiar spices infused the air, giving me a comforting scent from home. The hall had several long tables with benches, a scattering of people at each, either eating or engrossed in conversation.
Only humans staffed the food counter. The screen showed the menu, written in multiple human languages. They didn't offer many choices here, perhaps a byproduct of the free meals. Today's options included vegan pesto pasta with sun-dried tomatoes and vegetarian carbonara featuring plant-based protein cubes.
"I'll go for the carbonara," I announced.
"I'll have the same," Janji added.
The worker hesitated. "This dish contains eggs and dairy. Are you sure?"
"Yes," Janji confirmed.
We filled our trays, grabbed cups of water, and made our way to a secluded table in the far corner of the hall. As we sat, it felt like the space between us expanded. Janji skewered a piece of pasta with his fork and took a bite.
"I've had eggs and dairy before," he remarked. "They have a unique flavor that I enjoyed somewhat."
"Doesn't dairy upset your stomach?" I inquired.
He paused, looking at his meal, and realization dawned on him. "So that explains why I've been feeling gassy."
"Yes," I chuckled, "even many humans have trouble digesting dairy."
Janji took another forkful of pasta and then shifted the conversation. "Johan, I need your opinion regarding Vani and me."
My eyebrow arched. "Go on."
Setting his fork down, he looked at me. "We never broke things off, and now I'm considering how best to end our relationship."
A part of me thought his words should bring relief, Janji breaking up with Vani would simplify our lives. But it didn't feel right for me to welcome this news.
"You still love him, though, don't you?" I sought to clarify.
He let out a sigh. "Yes, I did love Vani, and I still do. But seeing him again after returning to our homeworld made me reevaluate many things."
Janji's eyes wandered to the large windows of the dining hall, settling on a group of human children chasing each other on a playground.
"When Vani embraced me back in the spaceport. It felt like... finding missing pieces of myself," he continued. "However, the deeper I delve into that emotion, the more I question whether I deserve such happiness. I committed terrible acts on that farm, acts that I believe make me unworthy of love, particularly from a fellow venlil."
Intrigued and concerned, I set my fork aside. "Are you comfortable telling me about... what you did?"
After taking another bite of pasta as though gathering his thoughts, he spoke. "On that farm, not every venlil came there through raids. Some were born into that hell, and I played a role in their creation."
His words landed like a gut punch, robbing me of my appetite. "That's... gosh... I'm sorry you had to go through that Janji. I... can't even begin to imagine how difficult that experience must have been for you, Janji."
"That's why I think being with Vani might not be fair to him," he said.
His reasoning weighed on me. Had he confessed to a diminished attraction to Vani, I would gladly accept that. But...I couldn't let him break up with Vani for that reason. "The real question is," I said. "Can't you be with him, or you won't you? Nothing is stopping you from reestablishing where your relationship has been cut short"
"Vani deserves someone whole, someone who hasn't been tainted by the predators. Even a human would be a more fitting match for him than I am," Janji mused.
Okay, that hits too close to home. I hope he didn't notice me flinching.
"Your past may have fractured you, Janji, but you can piece yourself back together, step by step. And you don't have to do it alone."
Janji's eyes crossed and met mine head-on. He no longer looked at me askance, and it reminded me of Vani's gaze. "I'll never return to who I was before my captivity."
"You don't need to be your former self to deserve love," I emphasized. "What happened to you will leave scars, indelible marks, but they don't make you unworthy of affection or intimacy."
"What should I do next then?" he asked.
"Speak to Vani. Share your fears and concerns. Let him make his own choice about whether you're deserving of his love," I advised.
Janji's eyes fell to his pasta again, and for a long, silent moment, he seemed to be journeying through the maze of his inner world. When he looked up, it was as if the ambiance in the dining hall had changed, all lights dimmed except for the space between us.
"I'll try." he said.

2023.09.24 19:02 Iamtheonewhoknocks47 Rhea is better than both the guys

I found Rhea's rebuttal to Prince's childish rant pretty on point. Prince literally said that he hates them not once but twice and how he is real and they are fake ( for the 1000th time although most people would pick the latter if this gawar behaviour is real). Rhea is not confrontational in nature and tries to avoid a tussle as far as possible. Prince never showed any courtesy to her like Rannvijay did to Esha Deol in her 1st season or even Neha. Prince's entire point is that he is the king of Roadies and this guys don't know anything about Roadies ( Bro those baldies would have eaten you alive and you were smart enough to go for an audition as soon as those smart baddies left and gym dudes with zero IQ and awareness like him could sink in which has ultimately led to Roadies coming from people like Anthony Yeh Nauman Suchit to Siwet Piyu ). His point was that he can say anything to them as he is real and they are all fake. Prince's insecurity kinda shows up in the fights he is picking this season. Rhea has been through hell in the last 3-4 years and wrongly been slutshamed as SSR's fans still blame her and believe that she killed him. Any empathetic educated gang leader would have made her feel comfortable at first be it Rann Nikhil or even Raftaar or Kundra. Prince has always disliked Gautam and we get it but his bitterness towards Rhea is pointless and very very childish. Even Sonu who never speaks anything was forced to speak. Till Rannvijay was around, Prince was pretty balanced in comparison and not this venal and feral.

2023.08.24 21:03 Calliegrl03 Bollywood’s B-list actors/actresses

Who are they to you?
  1. Arjun Kapoor (I like his personality but yeah…he’s def chilling on this list unless he gets a great acting coach)
  2. Sonam Kapoor (time to retire sis…she made some cute movies/ she’s like a bootleg Alicia Silverstone, sadly)
  3. Abhishiek Bachchan ( I think he can get back on the low-A list with the right role, but he’s chilling here…the legacy is too prominent)
  4. Arjun Rampal (had a good run when he finally made it but scandal got him. I’m still a fan of acting but he’s on the B-team now)
  5. Sara Ali Khan (could be temporary…hopefully she can get the right roles to change this for her)
  6. Bobby Deol—Him going independent with bro kinda messed up his standing a bit. He’s doing better and making a comeback. If he can on a big ndustry film, he’d be low-A again. He’s still a good actor though!
  7. Esha Deol—no need for explanation
  8. Siddarath Malholtra—no need for explanation
  9. Jacqueline F. —I like her persona but yeah
  10. Jhavni—seems sweet but yeah…hopefully khushi is better 🙏🏿

"You are a fucking full-on dick!... You better recalculate, motherfucker!" - Bodycam recording of Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) having a normal interaction last month with a Texas State Trooper

Freaks Of The RICO

In the immortal words of Frankie Valli: Oh, what a night!
Speaking of the Big Guy…
Willis said she would like to see a trial date within six months, and the defendants have 10 days to turn themselves in. Trump remains the definitive frontrunner in the 2024 Republican Primary race, holding his 40-point lead over the next-closest challenger. Next year sure should be…interesting!!! For now, though, we’ll have what she’s having.

Look No Further Than Crooked Media

The future of reproductive rights is looking a little less bleak after Ohio voted against Issue 1, a referendum that would have made it substantially harder for voter-led initiatives to amend the Ohio State Constitution. Last week on Hysteria, Erin and Alyssa talk about the results of Ohio’s win, the latest Trump indictment, and “prenatal care deserts’' aka the lack of maternity care in South Dakota. Plus, Megan Gaily and Kiran Deol join to discuss the effects of the double Hollywood strike on their career, the economy, and more. New episodes of Hysteria drop every Thursday. Listen and follow wherever you get your podcasts.

Under The Radar

A Washington Post investigative series has placed a spotlight on the Smithsonian Institution’s collection of at least 30,700 human bones and other body parts. Most of these remains are from people of color and all were taken without consent. In the 1930s, an anthropologist for the Smithsonian’s U.S. National Museum (which would later become the National Museum of Natural History) named Ales Hrdlicka repeatedly traveled to a small community on Kodiak Island off the coast of Alaska to exhume Indigenous graves. He offered locals $0.10 to find human remains, and, with the help of a small team, disinterred the remains of over one thousand people, in what became a federally sponsored, mass grave robbery. Hrdlicka used his research in Alaska to proliferate the theory that the first people to populate North America came across a land bridge at the Bering Strait. The Smithonian’s collection of body parts includes 255 human brains, most of which were collected by Hrdlicka or under his direction.
Hrdlicka, who earned the nickname “The Bone Doctor,” was widely celebrated in his time, testifying before Congress as an expert witness and advising the FBI as a consultant. He was also a virulent racist who believed not only that non-White people were inferior, but that he could decipher someone’s race primarily through anatomical characteristics. He went to extreme lengths to acquire human remains, preying on Indigenous populations, decapitating bodies of Mexican people who had been murdered by their government. On a single trip to Peru, he collected more than 2,000 skulls. He took at least 57 brains from Black people who had died in the United States. He was frequently cited in newspapers, and his work and beliefs influenced U.S. government policies on race. Beginning in the 1990’s, almost a half-century after Hrdlicka’s death, Indigenous communities began demanding that the disinterred remains be returned. But those within the Smithsonian lamented the “loss of the collection” and continued to “deif[y]” Hrdlicka. As The Post investigated, the secretary of the Smithsonian Lonnie G. Bunch III (what a name) publicly apologized for the way the museum had collected human remains and announced the creation of a task force that will decide on the proper course of action for the future of the body parts, and acknowledged that the institution must do more to acknowledge Hrdlicka’s legacy of racism.

What Else?

Ninety-nine people have been confirmed dead in the wreckage of the Maui wildfires, and the investigation is only about 25 percent complete.
Trump’s co-defendant in the classified documents case Carlos De Oliveira pleaded not-guilty on Tuesday to charges that he conspired with the former president to keep classified information from being returned to the federal government.

Be Smarter

The criminal prosecution of Tesla driver Kevin Aziz Riad in Los Angeles County appears to be nearing its end, in a first-of-its-kind case in which U.S. prosecutors brought felony charges against a motorist using a partially-automated driving system. Riad was driving in a 2019 car crash that killed two people in an L.A. suburb, and only received probation as punishment. Lorena Ochoa, the widow of one of the victims, believes both Tesla and Riad should face harsher punishments. A restitution hearing for Riad scheduled for Tuesday was postponed until September 19, when a judge will determine how much money he owes the victims’ families. At the time of the crash, Riad was using Autopilot, about which critics say Tesla has and continues to use a misleading marketing campaign implying that vehicles with that feature can drive themselves. Autopilot has “trouble” stopping for emergency vehicles parked on roads, and it’s under investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for braking without driver input. Tesla’s automated driving systems have been involved in at least 35 crashes and 17 deaths nationwide since 2016. We must once again praise the indisputable genius of Elon Musk!

Tell us what Bollywood Secrets and Scandals you learned from this sub (Recap)
This sub has turned from that into a Box Office collection sub.

RICE Mod Dev Diary #38 Sri Lanka Flavor Pack (Part 2): New Content for India!

https://preview.redd.it/ci325to4hefb1.jpg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb59545f9ca7a263715b972219dcaf6352d92cf3
I'm Cybrxkhan, creator of the Regional Immersion and Cultural Enrichment (RICE) mod, which adds simple "Flavor Packs'' to different parts of the world. This is the second of three dev diaries for RICE’s next major update, Sri Lanka: Abode of Lions coming with Wards & Wardens. In the first dev diary, we went over the new Sri Lankan religious struggle; today, we’ll cover general flavor coming for India as well as special content for the 1066 bookmark.
The update is a collab with the Rajas of Asia (which expands the map into Asia) and the Fallen Eagle (which takes the game to the Dark Ages/Late Antiquity), and both are compatible with RICE, so be sure to check them out too! ROA in fact has just released a huge update that includes a lot of new features to enhance its interactions with RICE.
Anyways, feel free to check out my mods' website, discord, and twitter for more info, previews, and updates. Now, onto the new stuff!

Land Grants

While a good chunk of the next update focuses on Buddhists, I wanted to take the opportunity to add flavor applicable to the rest of India. These include two new decisions I’ve already added to The Fallen Eagle's India update as part of our collab.
One decision is to Grant Land to Temples and Monasteries, which improves development in your counties in India, at the cost of tax revenue. You can choose to give land grants to one of the main Indian religions – Buddhism, Brahmanism, and Jainism – regardless of which of the three you follow. This is meant to represent various forms of religious land grants in medieval India, from Brahamnical land grants in much of India, to those given to Buddhist monasteries in Sri Lanka, that often assisted local rulers with controlling frontier regions not as directly under their authority.

https://preview.redd.it/njnb4me3iefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43d448af75dd98052510002a45f0b3c62150f50e
The bonuses vary depending on whether you follow that religion or not. Land grants to your own religion improves popular opinion and gives piety, but those for a different religion provide extra development and gives prestige. Either option also contributes to catalysts in the Sri Lanka struggle, if you’re involved in it. As such, either option is viable.

https://preview.redd.it/8hsixwx3iefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04fd25863ba15dbd215bb6fc25f7ab292e260af3
Unlike the version of this decision found in TFE, which has a small chance of generating minorities, unless you play with TFE, the one in RICE only has a small chance converting your counties to a random faith of that religion (preferably pulling from faiths already present in India). Still, this could result in religiously diverse regions in India, as happened historically.

https://preview.redd.it/zvk2d3k4iefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e432dedc8e079ee1f03422f393f97907cc5cf8c
Anyways, RICE has not integrated the minorities system for now due to potential compatibility issues – however, if you’re interested in adding minority cultures and faiths in your game, check out the original minorities mod. Better yet, check out Rajas of Asia, made by the same folks, as it’s just implemented unique minority content if you run RICE and ROA together.

Irrigation Tanks

Another new decision for Indians that is shared with TFE is to Construct Irrigation Tanks. It represents various systems of artificial reservoirs designed to hold water in pre-modern India. Gameplay-wise, it is similar to the RICE’s Qanats system in the Middle East and North Africa, as you choose the size of the Irrigation Tank you want to build to get modifiers for development and tax in your capital. The difference is you'll gain less prestige but more piety than a qanat.

https://preview.redd.it/s39qv97niefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d718c558de3779fd590f26e807584327d15543e
Like the Qanat decision, this decision is unlocked with an innovation, in this case Irrigation Tanks, which is available if you are in India. Most Indian cultures have it at game start. If you’re involved in the Sri Lankan Sangha, it’s another tool to push the struggle towards certain phases.

https://preview.redd.it/944ge7lniefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=830519a61181baf411544c39c7b79f4a199d3312
Two new traditions further enhance this decision. Stepwell Builders, which the Gujarati and Rajasthani cultures at game start, increases the prestige and piety you gain from the decision.

https://preview.redd.it/6i4ft63oiefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3bb2dbbf91e2687d35f16057aa13fb5e319596f4
Meanwhile, Wewa Systems, which only the Sinhala have at game start, makes the decision cheaper. In Sri Lanka, as in India, these tanks – know as wewas in Sri Lanka – were associated with religious and political institutions. Parakramabahu, one of the great medieval Sri Lankan kings, initiated many projects to build wewas and is quoted as saying: “Not even a drop of water that comes from the rain must flow into the ocean without being made useful to man.”

https://preview.redd.it/d5vwmxjoiefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b631772297c2bcbcccd0fcee95fe87b9526be1f

Pilgrimages

Sri Pada (Adam's Peak)

Two new Local Pilgrimages have been added near Sri Lanka. They’re fairly simple mechanically and mostly give the standard local pilgrimage benefits from RICE, as well as unique modifiers.
The first pilgrimage is to Sri Pada or Adam's Peak, a sacred mountain in central Sri Lanka. It is available to rulers of all religions – yes, that’s right, any faith. Because of that, the flavor text and the positive modifier you get at the end for visiting varies depending on your religion.

https://preview.redd.it/5onc9u5piefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41cd9bc5d7ef923b1666ef15038306a27cd1d4b3
A notable feature of Sri Pada is a rock formation near the summit that is shaped like a footprint. Depending on who you ask, the footprint was made by either the Buddha, Shiva, Adam, or St. Thomas.

Ramasetu (Adam’s Bridge)

The second pilgrimage is to Ramasetu or Adam's Bridge, the thin land bridge connecting Sri Lanka and India before the 1400s. In the late 1400s, this land connection was severed due to massive storms. However, the area is still an important religious site for Hindus to this day.

https://preview.redd.it/twb1np2qiefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa7db0df8f1e2a05c77154508e6b8dce3b890757
Ramasetu is associated with the Ramayana, one of the great Sanskrit epic poems that is culturally and religiously influential in South and Southeast Asia, even among non-Hindus. In an episode of the Ramayana, the eponymous hero/deity Rama enlists the help of monkeys to construct a bridge, identified with Ramasetu.

Velakkara

A new innovation is available for cultures in parts of south India, Velakkara Guards. Only Tamils and Sinhala have it at game start. It reduces mercenary costs and helps with defender advantage. Most importantly, it unlocks a heavy infantry MAA, the Velakkara.

https://preview.redd.it/x2u5ryfriefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4bcc6cb3a6bf3677460d05f2b4e47b8bc52e2c2a
Historically, the Velakkara (or Velaikkarar) were a prominent guild or community of soldiers of mainly Tamil Hindu origin in the Chola Empire and in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan kings like Vijayabahu used them extensively, and they were even tasked with protecting the famous Temple of the Tooth Relic when it became a major Buddhist religious site on the island. However, they could prove a source of trouble, as Vijayabahu had to quash a Velakkara revolt later in his reign.

867 Characters

There are a couple new playable characters in the 867 start date, when Sri Lanka is ruled by King Sena II. One is Sena’s brother Udaya, who would succeed him as king. The other is Kutthaka, Sena’s high-ranking general who, in 862 CE, led an expedition against the Pandyan dynasty of mainland India which had invaded and ravaged Sri Lanka years before. His forces successfully took the Pandyan capital, killed the Pandyan king who led the invasion of Sri Lanka years before, and installed a rebel Pandyan prince on the throne, before returning to Sri Lanka.

https://preview.redd.it/fimtwh9siefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3695c19d2f1291cf0d68cac88470dc8cce41193
A few players have pointed out before that RICE is biased towards 867 in terms of adding bookmark flavor, with less unique content for 1066. If that’s you, then you’ll be happy to hear that a lion’s share of the new bookmark flavor for this update is actually for 1066.

1066 Flavor

Vijayabahu I

Much of the 1066 flavor revolves around a new bookmarked character: Vijayabahu I, who, as in vanilla, leads a rebellion against the Cholas at game start. The Cholas had conquered much of Sri Lanka decades ago, and it is up to you – with help from some of RICE’s new content – to throw off their yoke and establish a new kingdom on the island. For instance, he starts with a few Velakkara MAA under his command at game start.

https://preview.redd.it/2a9cj4ysiefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df6df7a4e79ebc9fcf59422458788d0d8effe8ea
Vijayabahu’s descendant, Parakramabahu I, accomplished the “canonical” ending of the Sri Lankan struggle in the mid-1100s when he united the three main monasteries under the Mahavihara sect as part of his religious reforms. Traditional accounts of these reforms, however, likely underplay how this was more a long-term, complicated process that started long before him and continued long after him, sometimes without royal intervention.

https://preview.redd.it/n2hqi03uiefb1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=75b349e4937564c300c87731d1e6862d0debe101
Lastly, as you might have noticed, RICE’s bookmarks are getting a visual overhaul, courtesy of Nezaros, the lead dev behind the Rajas of Asia mod that RICE is collaborating with for this update. Now, territories of the bookmarked characters will be highlighted like in vanilla's bookmarks.

Budal

One of Vijayabahu’s loyal followers and trusted generals is another new playable character, Budal (also known as Buddharaja or Budalna), who starts off as a Count under Vijayabahu.

Budal is the subject of the Panakaduwa copper plate, a notable archaeological find discovered by a farmer in 1948. It records how Vijayabahu, now king of the island, granted Budal and his descendants immunity to any punishment for any crime they committed, as thanks for the fact that when Vijayabahu was a young prince, living in the wilderness and on the run from Chola armies, Budal was one of his chief protectors.

To represent their close ties, Budal starts off as Vijayabahu’s friend. Additionally, you now have a decision to Grant Privileges to Budal if you are Vijayabahu and Budal is still alive. It grants Budal’s dynasty a dynasty modifier lasting for a century with various buffs, gives Budal a hook on Vijayabahu, and also gives Budal a unique artifact, the Panakaduwa Copper Plate itself.

Polonnaruwa

The last flavor decision associated with Vijayabahu (or anyone from the 1066 start) is to Move Capital to Polonnaruwa, which changes the de jure capital of the Kingdom of Tambapanni (aka Lanka) to Polonnaruwa. Now, why would you want to move there when the island’s old capital, Anuradhapura, is perfectly fine?

Actually, in the 1066 start date, it is no longer fine. To represent the decline of the old capital from years of warfare, as well as the island’s political, economic, and religious center moving to Polonnaruwa, the old university there is removed and has been replaced with the Ruins of Anuradhapura. The county also has a less permanent but still long-lasting century-long modifier, Decline of Anuradhapura, with other nasty debuffs.

Moving the capital to Polonnaruwa instantly adds a university to the county for free, upgrades its development and control, and adds the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa modifier to the county which gives it various economic and defensive bonuses. It represents Vijayabahu establishing Polonnaruwa as his base in real life, and is only available in the 1066 bookmark.

If you are Vijayabahu, you can also choose whether to rename Polonnaruwa to Vijayarajapura, which is what he named the city after he made it his capital. Doing so gets you prestige, but keeping the old name gets you piety.

Miscellaneous

That concludes today’s dev diary! The third and final dev diary, which will be out in a week or so, will cover the revamp of RICE's old Silk Road communities, including many new African and Asian cultures and faiths, as well as other miscellany for the update we haven't covered yet.
This update’s ETA will be in late August, roughly a week or two after the Wards & Wardens DLC comes out. I decided it’d be pointless to release a big update right before a major patch might mess it all up. Hopefully, this gives more time to flesh out the new content!
Speaking of the future, if you’re interested in future RICE content, please don’t hesitate to partake in the Eastern European Flavor Pack Poll for the flavor pack that’ll come after Sri Lanka, if you haven’t done so yet. It will close in approximately a week next Sunday or so.
