I just celebrated 5 years sober and I wanted to tell all y'all that I believe in you and I mean it. I'm 34 years old and I haven't had the shakes, scrounged for change to buy a pint at 6am, or worried which liquor store employees in town "knew" in 5 WHOLE YEARS.
My biggest take away from this journey is that the ONLY right way to get sober is to do whatever the fuck works for YOU. If it keeps you away from your DOC then keep doing it! Eat the candy, smoke the cigarette, drink the soda, hell I took shots of apple cider vinegar for months to curb the cravings for vodka. It burns similar and really calmed my brain down.
Do not EVER let someone else tell you you're not sober because your journey doesn't look like theirs. If your life no longer revolves around your addiction, if you're in control again and no longer use whatever it was that was ruining your life, well that sounds pretty sober to me 💕 you'll come across plenty of people who say things like consuming prescribed medication, cigarettes, weed, NA beer, heck even caffeine means you're not sober but it is 100% up to YOU to decide what sobriety means. (NA booze is a hot subject. I personally didn't try it until I was over a year sober and now I enjoy an NA beer occasionally but I would NEVER touch NA vodka. For some people it is an instant trigger, for others it's totally fine. Its okay to never try it if you never feel comfortable 💕)
Along the same lines please don't let someone else tell you if you are or aren't a "real" alcoholic. FFS people actually try to do that and it's just wild to me. I was drinking 1,125ml of vodka a day and still got questioned if I "actually had a problem". No dude I just love being hospitalized with withdrawals 😘

- I'm here to make a friend or two, that maybe grows into something more. I don't care where you are from, though I am a sucker for an accent that isn't from the US. Realistically, at this point in my life, I'm old and tired, and know that it just doesn't magically happen for some people. I don't expect to fall in love immediately, I just want someone to enjoy my hobbies with together, and theirs in turn. It's 2024, the world is going to shit and back, and I just want to find someone I can click with.
- I'm friendly with pretty much anyone of any ethnicity, creed, chosen identification of gender or the inbretween and so on, unless they give me a reason not to be. That usually happens when they decide to be an ass to anyone I care about or myself, try to shove their ideals down my throat, or are clearly just not a good person (this is subjective, but sometimes you just.. you know, get the feeling someone might skin you and turn you into a lamp).
- I'm non-religious and pretty apolitical. I wasn't raised religious and will never be, but am perfectly fine with people believing in anything they want, as long as those ideals or beliefs aren't enforced on myself. Politics wise, I kind of agree with some things on either side, but mostly just don't care. In my experience, politics ruin relationships, friendships, and so much more, just because people as a whole are stubborn.
- I do NOT have my entire life together, plain and blunt. I was in a relationship for a long time that ended very dramatically and poorly, and all of the plans I had to move and so on were crushed, so I'm still getting my actual life together. I'm over the relationship and have moved on mentally and such, just haven't gotten everything else entirely in line. I can explain more if asked, I won't hide anything at all, as that isn't how things work. This doesn't mean I don't have a job and freeload, it just means I'm not a rich dude who owns his own home and will buy you everything you need. It's 2024, most people are struggling.
- My hobbies are varied, but mostly encompass gaming (PC, no mobile or console anymore), reading novels, listening to audiobooks at work, binging movies/shows/animes, and roleplaying, be it Discord, in a game (I'm an old WoW RP nerd), or D&D. I'm a huge sci-fi and fantasy nerd. I just love writing and telling a story with someone that can match and challenge my own ability to write. I also probably know too much backstory for the smallest of things in many fandoms and universes, and if it's something I don't know, I tend to absorb it quickly if it interests me.
- I'm pretty healthy for the most part. I don't smoke, cigarettes or weed, and while I don't care if people do, I'd prefer if it wasn't your entire lifestyle. Vaping also doesn't bother me as much, but I'd prefer if you just didn't really feel the need to murder your lungs, you know? You need them to keep hanging out with me! I do drink a bit here and there, but I'm far from an achoholic. I grew up with a few bartendresses in my close family, and so I just grew to enjoy a couple cold ones, or a wild and weird mixed drink.
- I'm not the most physically fit person right now. I'm not bound to a scooter and spend all day laboring for each breath, but the last few years have been a bit rough on me with depression and other things. That said, I am in the process of starting to work out again, because I've grown tired of not doing that sort of thing anymore.

For context: I’m 18 and I’ve been listening to a lot of music pretty consistently for a few years now. Before then I had very little interest in music. Around a year and a half ago, I started listening to metal during a pretty intense period of my life. I started with black sabbath, Judas Priest, Ghost and Metallica. Holy Hell with a hand grenade, I was blown back by the sheer energy and power of metal music. I consider the album Painkiller to be my gateway into metal. Now, I’m really deep into Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Gojira, Judas Priest, Soen, Rammstein and a couple other smaller bands and I’m really enjoying a lot of prog metal. I’ve even ordered a guitar that is better built for metal (I’ve had a basic guitar for over a year now)
However, metal isn’t the only genre that I enjoy. I also love and have very deep appreciations for indie rock, Alt rock, art rock, classic rock, Grunge, electronic rock, jazz fusion and prog rock to name a couple genres. Sometimes I want to call myself a metalhead, but since I don’t exclusively listen to metal or have been to a metal concert (hopefully Opeth in October) would I be considered a ‘metalhead’ or do I just enjoy various music?

I've been feeling a little bummed out lately. I always try and stay happy and see the best in things. But.. I've just been so alone. Most of my whole childhood and adult years have been spent feeling lonely. I grew up surrounded by cornfields which was peaceful but also has a lonely aspect to it. My family never really were close and never did anything as a family really. And part of it too is the fact that I never had any neighbors my age to interact with. But aside from that, my adult life has been very lonely. I'm just always by myself. I barely have any meaningful adult relationships or experiences, or even any friends.
I work a 3-11 job in building maintenance at my company world headquarters building which I love, but again it's very lonely. I work the off shift so the building is always empty. I don't get normal social interaction with people my age or a chance to build relationships. I only have 3 older men as co-workers and we are mostly in the basement away from any people on the floors from knowing our existence. I always walk the floors and see office people laughing and chatting with their coworkers and I just don't have that kind of experience. And just.. no one knows I exist really. Everyone probably assumes I have a lot of friends, but I'm struggling inside with being so alone and trying to meet people and get past the "hi how are you?" "I'm good thanks" stage. Most people don't seem to want to talk beyond that. And most women are already in relationships and thus it would seem weird to approach them in an office setting trying to get to know them deeper. But man those "hi how are yous" are the only real interactions I get during my day.. so thus I decided to come here lol. Rant over, sorry! I promise I'm not a downer. 😅

As you can tell, I am very mature for my age and am polite and have good grammar which unfortunately not everyone my age does anymore lol. I am not active at all on social media/internet culture really and don't know much about all the slang the younger people these days use. I feel like I'm 50. 🤣
I am left handed which is pretty cool. I'm not much of a party person or a drinker, I much prefer a quiet night at home and maybe a beer or two on a weekend but that's about it. I am simple and stay out of drama and trouble and don't get much into politics or other things that cause drama with people. I much prefer a relaxing campfire and a night at home and to just let the world keep on turning haha. I consider myself pretty intelligent and mature, especially for my age which is why I'm open to older ladies.

I have a Nikon D200 and D5500 that I love to shoot with. I love nature scenes, abstract, black and white/goth kinda photography, sunsets, etc. it's so fun to just let your mind explore. It's not about what camera you have, but those who are behind the camera! I'm gonna try and photograph the northern lights tonight!
• Cooking and baking
I loveeee to cook and bake! I enjoy making various meals but also love to just have a frozen pizza once in awhile or something like that. I recently made homemade chili which turned out great. I love to bake, especially in the fall! I love pies, cakes, pastries, cookies, etc. I restored a vintage KitchenAid mixer that needed tbe gearbox rebuilt. Eventually I would love to practice home canning my own food.
• Music
Oh my gosh, I like so much!! Alternative rock, punk, post punk, electronic, synth pop, psychedelic rock, hard rock, etc. I am very non judgemental and open when it comes to music. My three current favorite bands are Type O Negative, Joy Division, and the Cure.
• Nature walks and camping
I really enjoy camping, making fires, and relaxing by a campfire. I love to take walks outside and just enjoy the beauty and simplicity of nature. It's wonderful, especially in a world so focused on everything digital.
• Repairing things
I'm a maintenance guy and one of my hobbies is electronics repair so I am good with my hands and just all around good at troubleshooting and fixing all sorts of things around the house. Last week I helped my elderly neighbor get his tractor started, it needed a new component in the starting circuit. So I'm pretty handy which... Comes in handy! 😂

I also love their architecture and uniqueness, as well as architecture of old cathedrals and other buildings.
