2024.05.15 01:39 spicycomputergal In search of Ava Luxe reviews

Hello!
Long time no see! Well, I am once again looking for Ava Luxe reviews. Some of their scents have been discussed on Fragrantica, but I can't find anything about some of those that piqued my interest. Have you tried them? What did you like or didn't like about them?
It's a lot, I know, that's why I'm trying to narrow down my choices... The prices add up pretty quickly!

2024.05.15 00:57 moderatorseatjism Pts Farms - Full Metal B ⛽️

Pts Farms - Full Metal B ⛽️
Out of everything I’ve gotten from pts this is my least favorite but do not get me wrong for a sale price of $67 w tax I am not complaining or disappointed in the least and it’s still ⛽️ as far as I’m concerned it’s just not as good as the c berries, alien pebbles or rainbow Runtz I’ve tried. I was hoping to grab the Apple fritter but this is all they had. Which is annoying because they have everything in stock pre sale but during the sale g leaf in warren (shit hole) doesn’t have much in stock. I bet dollars to donuts that they have everything in stock again post sale on Thursday.
On to the review upon cracking the bag smacked with a fruity gas and Kush notes. The buds are dark green with reddish orange hairs. Buds are on the small side but dense with fairly hood trichome coverage and gland heads. Pistils and calyx are of good size. The smoke expands nicely in the lung and longs to a nice smoking experience. Barely 24% and it hits exactly like it should, strong and medicinal effect. I’d say for sure euphoric but not a narcotic pain reliever type. Still overall a good smoke and I’m pleased. Hard 7.3 for me in this one… u know the rules one joint… one whole 1.5g jay…I’d get this again if I was in the same sitch but given choices I’d go w the others mentioned but you won’t be disappointed w this one

2024.05.14 17:31 misspierogiprincess a mostly successful introduction to Pineward

During my short exploration of fragrance, I've realized I enjoy dark and woodsy smells. A friend introduced me to Pineward and I even got my own sample of Hayride (hay, hot cocoa, vanilla, sweet vernal grass, bison grass, acorn nut bread, nutmeg, cardamom, spikenard, raisin, tonka, oakmoss) from someone's destash. I have yet to encounter more authentic nature scents. Hayride specifically is the epitome of autumn magic to me. It's dark, sweet, spicy, and that hay note did something right to my brain. Recently I purchased three samples from their website and only regret not exploring more! They arrived about a week after ordering too. I'm super open to any suggestions and hearing about your experiences!
Gelatto (makrut lime, jasmine sambac, mandarin orange, massoia bark, sandalwood, ambergris) This is bright and summery. Fruit and especially citrus scares me because it frequently comes across as sickeningly synthetic or cleaning supplies esque. This definitely doesn’t come across that way and I’m glad I tried something out of my comfort zone, even if it's not exactly my style. It is a fresh, floral, and cologney scent while maintaining a noticeable fruitiness. It feels reminiscent of tropical ocean air. 7/10
Murkwood (fir balsam, black hemlock, lapsang suchong, moss, incense, bitter myrrh, liturgical incense, dark and foreboding forest) The first thing I notice is a funky sweat smell while it’s wet. Am I experiencing the dreaded occurrence of something not working with my skin chemistry? I read so many appealing reviews about delightful bitter forest and incense yet all I can think of is the sweaty hermit inhabiting those woods. There is something enchanting about the authentic trees and moss I’m picking up. There’s a smokey, very mildly sweet incense element. Fortunately the B.O. stink begins fading as it dries and the bitter, earthy notes are more clear. My boyfriend described the dry fragrance as “old, dusty cabin in the woods” without looking at the notes. He stressed that it smells dark and ancient. Super interesting. I think a goblin should wear this but I’m not sure where or when I would wear it. 6/10 EDIT: I’ve been wearing this for almost two hours and the sweaty smell is noticeable once again. WHY
Pastoral (apricot preserve, blackberry jam, raw honey, propolis, beeswax, sweetgrass, hay bales, bran wheat, oat grains, bourbon vetiver, mate tea, oakmoss) I think this is my most successful fruit scent. It is genuinely jammy, I feel like I’m sticking my nose in a jar of dark fruitiness. Honey is very noticeable and there’s an overall thick, syrupy quality to this. I’m in love with authentic hay notes and can tell it’s lurking somewhere in here. This feels a little cozy and tasty in a way that’s not blatantly foodie or sugary. After about an hour there's less of an obvious fruit quality and it begins to spotlight the hay/tea/earthy aspects, which is still sweet and super pleasant. It never loses the heavy, jammy feeling. My coworker described it as "sweet woods" and my boyfriend said it smells like honey. Contemplating a bigger size! 9/10

2024.05.14 15:14 TeaAndCozy 5 more Nui Cobalt Critters

Hi friends, I'm back with thoughts on my new Nui Cobalt Critters! For my reviews of 24 past Critters (including all of the Rabbits and Squirrels), see my recent post HERE. As I wrote before, this collection isn't entirely sweet cuddly woodland creatures, but it does have a lot of those, including three of my all-time favorite Nui Cobalts: Little Brown Rabbit, Little White Rabbit, and Lilac Rabbit (so of course I had to try this year's new Rabbit!) Here are my thoughts on five of this year's new releases, with an unexpected favorite...
Ordering specs: Nui Cobalt's website is easy to navigate, shipping is very affordable at $3.45, items come very securely packed, and customer service is always spectacular. I don't think I've ever placed an order that took more than 2-3 business days to ship (and recently it has usually been literally the very next day). Samples are generous - 1.15 mls at least - in vials with wand caps. Each order comes with one free sample, chosen by them (there’s no box to insert requests).
Nui Cobalt's typical annual schedule of releases: (I [and especially Nui Cobalt] make no promises, of course, that these collections will recur; this is just in my experience)
These perfumes were provided as press samples by Nui Cobalt in exchange for an honest review.

Golden Retriever [Sunflower, amber resin, budding dogwood, fenugreek, and fresh-baked bread] Toast! A warm, ambery, spiced scent featuring toast made from a slightly sweetened bread. It's remarkable how sunny and summery this is - yet it's unmistakeably toast, and I keep getting distracted by this scent as I do other things, absentmindedly wondering where the breakfast is. If you like Poesie Amaterasu [Golden sandalwood incense, rice milk, bright cardamom, amber, dry wheat, and sunflowers], you'd love this; it has that same amiable warmth (though, of course, without the cardamom). As it starts to dry, the botanicals (the dogwood and fenugreek) come out more strongly (still with spiced ambery toast as a strong base note).
Red Admiral Butterfly [Blood orange, nasturtium flower, coriander, subtle blackwood, wild strawberry, and fresh garden basil] - This strawberry-blood orange combination is fabulous - the blood orange actually doesn't stick out much by itself, but it makes the strawberry note super juicy and takes away the candied artificiality of most strawberry notes in perfume. LOVE. I'm not super into this strong basil note, though. I love fruity-florals, but not so much fruity-herbals, and this is very much "juicy strawberry + basil and other dried herbs from a witch's cottage" (the "other dusty herbs" bit must be from the coriander note?). If they ever do that strawberry-blood orange combo again, I'll be all over it, it's quite stunning!
Black Sheep [Clean lamb's wool accord, myrrh resin, black seed, ambrette, and barely a whisper of oudh] - This is dusty twilight in a bottle. It's peaceful evening; it's cozy winter snuggles; it's the exhale when you can finally rest. It's undeniably dark, but soft and gentle, and I'd even describe it as gauzy. There is indeed but a whisper of myrrh and oud, just enough to make it dusty and dark, with the softest (and totally non-sheepy) cashmere and clean, slightly powdery ambrette. It doesn't have great longevity, lasting just under half a day on me, but holy wow is it amazing. I didn't know what to expect with this one - just looking at the notes, it's easy to think it could be too smoky or harsh - but it's beautiful.
Black Swan [Smooth tobacco, wild violet, humid black orchid, Peru balsam, clove bud, and a touch of star anise] - This feels like the bolder cousin of Black Sheep - it shares the same kind of dark, dusky beauty, but is significantly stronger, bolder, and less cuddly. The violets and anise (licorice) are strongest, with a really fruity purple plum/fig note too that's not at all listed but definitely arrives on my skin, over a base of the smoothest tobacco. Husband loves this tobacco. "Bring me that bottle," he declared upon sniffing my wrist, "I want to see what it does on my skin." And woah, it's SO different on him - the balsam is SO much stronger, making this a woody tobacco with a gently floral background. Are any of us surprised that he snaffled it?
Harlequin Rabbit [Nutmeg and tonka bean nuzzle up against toasted marshmallow, auburn cashmere, white pepper, black tea, and a trace of carrot seed] - Where Little Brown Rabbit is the snuggly evening one, Little White Rabbit is the clean elegant one, and Lilac Rabbit the soft pretty one, Harlequin Rabbit feels to me like the rainy-day one. I love this concept of the harlequin rabbit - that's a real rabbit coloring, by the way, and SUPER pretty, look it up! - created here by the Rabbit base plus black and white notes. This scent features a strong marshmallow note, the pretty, clean soapiness of Little White Rabbit, and malty notes not yet recognizable as black tea. It's cheeky, to be sure, but it also feels young, like it needs time to grow into itself. Nui Cobalt has a gorgeous black tea note, but it's surprisingly (and disappointingly) not that strong in this scent. Right now, Harlequin Rabbit feels like tea-dusted marshmallows (plus that soapy cottonflower note) rather than the more autumnal "rich black tea with marshmallow sweetness and a peppery bite" that I'm hoping it will develop into. I think it'll get there with a little aging, and indeed, the black tea and white pepper have already become stronger just over the course of my multiple wears of this, one a few days after its arrival and the other just yesterday (a week and a half later). Meanwhile, Husband interestingly smells generic "spices" from the tea and pepper, and says that the scent overall reminds him of Christmas markets (and he's quite enthusiastic in his praise of this one on me).

Personally...

I like Harlequin Rabbit (and it will certainly join my collection, standing alongside my other beloved Rabbits) but I don't yet love it as much as I thought I would. I really do think it just needs time to finish growing into itself. Black Sheep is the quiet standout for me - she's soft and unassuming, but she's a stunner. Red Admiral Butterfly is also quite a triumph - that glorious juicy strawberry! - and anybody who likes (or at least won't mind) the herbal notes should absolutely give it a try. All five of these truly have such artistry and strength of character, so you can't go wrong if you pick the ones that have notes you love.

2024.05.14 11:56 amethodicalmadness Studiowest Cities gift box review!

Wanted to find my next signature fragrance and so set off my journey with this Studiowest Cities gift box. Available on Westside and TataCliq for 1999. Can get it for as low as 1850 or something because you can get 5% off for opting out of online returns on the Westside website.
WARNING: This is gonna be a LONG post.

Packaging is quite lovely
The box has 10 glass bottles of 9ml perfumes. Very nice to hold. There are tearable covers over each of the bottle, kind of like a Christmas advent calendar. I loved this.
It's a great gift to give someone, even if they aren't into fragrance at all, simple because it feels like a premium gift.
I am by no means a reviewer or a person who knows much about fragrance in general. So I apologize in advance for my descriptions.
The fragrance notes are from the Westside website. There's nothing mentioned on the bottle or the box so i guess we will have to take their word for it.

Floral - Bergamot, Cardamom, Coconut blended with Tiare Flower, Tuberose, Ylang Ylang and base notes of Musk, Benzoin, Heliotrope.
Top: bergamot
Mid: Heliotrope
Base: Vanilla
Dupe for: ?
Review: You can really smell the coconut in this. It's a nice gourmand smell, but the spiciness of the cardamom makes this smell like a sabji made with amrutanjan balm.
It settles down to just the smell of the musk and the coconut. Pleasant but smells like it could be odomos.
Didn't like this.

Grapefruit Lemon, Mint and Pink Pepper mixed with middle notes of Ginger, Nutmeg, Jasmine and with base notes of Incense, Vetiver, Cedar, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Labdanum and White Musk.
Top: Grapefruit
Mid: Ginger
Base: Sandalwood
Dupe for: Bleu de Chanel
Review: the first burst is definitely very heavy on the alcohol and smells a lot like men's aftershave, you definitely get the citrus and the mint. As it dries down it turns into an inoffensive, soft, mainly musky smell.
Okayish. Might consider wearing it again. Good for day wear.
One Night in Bora Bora

Floral Ambery - Citrus, Pear, Melon blended with Rose, Freesia, Lily of the Valley and base notes of Amber, Musk, Patchouli.
Top: Pear
Mid: Lily of the valley
Base: Patchouli
Review: Too patchouli heavy for me this one. I can only smell the rose and the patchouli. Couldn't smell the citrus. I'm more into fresh scents so I hoped highly for this one. Settles down to a soft floral scent. Nothing mind blowing. Might consider wearing it in evenings.

Floral Fruity - Peach, Plum, Honey blended with Lily of the Valley, Nectarine, Petitgrain and base notes of Musk, Vetiver, Amber
Top: Peach
Mid: Petitgrain
Base: Vetiver
Dupe for: Elizabeth Arden Red Door
Review: Now this one is definitely interesting to me. I am not a fan of fruity scents but this is a wonderful one. At first you can really smell the plum and the peach scents, and the sweet nectarine but it's not sickly sweet. Settles down into what I think vetiver is supposed to smell like (I don't know what vetiver smells like, but it's not musk for sure). It smells... delicious?
I think this one is my favourite. Might even consider getting a decant of EA Red Door because of this.

Citrus Floral - Aqueous, Lemon, Green blended with Rose, Jasmine, Pear Blossom and base notes of Amber, Balsamic, Musk.
Top: Lemon
Mid: Rose
Base: Amber
Dupe for: CK One
Review: Initial burst of citrus is really fresh, and not in a ambi pur car fragrance kind of way. Settles down well. The rose and Jasmine would feel very hair oil fragrance but it's not that offensive. Left with a musk scent at the base. I don't know where the balsamic is supposed to sit.
One Night in Rio
3/5
Floral Chypre - Citrus, Fresh blended with Peony, Rose, Jasmine and base notes of Patchouli, Musk, Amber.
Top: Citrus
Mid: Peony
Base: Patchouli
Dupe for: CK Eternity Eau Fresh
Review: Opens with a floral scent that I can't seem to catch which flower it's supposed to be. Didn't get the citrus top note. Too much patchouli for me. I guess I just don't like patchouli. It settles down into a sweet smell, again, of just patchouli, and peony I guess. But I've never smelled a peony so I can't tell. The smell of this I can only describe as the floor cleaners they use in airport bathrooms at Kempegowda or a mall washroom that was just cleaned.
Not a fan of this one.

A good gift for someone who would like to get into fragrances. Not very long lasting, nor very outstanding scents tho. Maybe it's the Cities line of fragrances that aren't very good. I keep hearing Goddess as a good one, maybe I should've just got that to try instead.
I sprayed just a couple of times to keep it even but even so not good projection, sillage or staying power. It's gone within the hour but settles on the skin for maybe 2 hours.

2024.05.14 06:00 Proof_Room_4004 A shaky start: Sucreabeille reviews from the vaults

I've been playing with my sample spreadsheet and was reminded that I literally relegated Sucreabeille to its own tab away from everyone else because I felt so negatively! They were my intro to indies, when I didn't know how to research scents or houses yet. I was hesitant to purchase because their marketing vibe didn't mesh with me, but I was convinced by the fawning reviews on almost every scent (on their website). At the time, I also didn't realize how expensive Suc is compared to many other brands!
I figured I could post these as a counterpoint to the mostly positive reviews that showed up when I searched for Suc scents. I'm sure the house works really well for some, but it REALLY didn't for me. Their pure gourmands worked better, but I haven't worn my top rated scent from this batch since I tried it out. I rested all of these for two weeks before testing, and I haven't revisited them since I got through all of them a few weeks after that.
My tastes: I really like rich resins and non-nag incense, as well as a spectrum of flormands and gourmands. I don't love fruits, green/aquatic scents or many dirt/dead leaf scents. Top houses: Olympic Orchids, Mythpunk Olfactive, Solstice Scents. Mid houses: Nui Cobalt, Cocoa Pink. Low hit rates: Suc, Alkemia, Possets, Haus of Gloi, BPAL GC
With that, I hope you enjoy my record of bewilderment.
BELSNICKEL Hot espresso with juniper berries and brown sugar.
CHAOS WITCH Freshly cut magnolias and moonflowers play with nutmeg cream.
DO NO HARM, TAKE NO SHIT Plums, nectarines, apricots, and blackberries sparkle on a bed of sage and fallen leaves deep in the autumnal forest.
AFTERGLOW Dark chocolate, amber, honey.
CREAM TEA A warm mug of creamy, frothy, caffeine-injected tea. A blend of chai tea, burnt sugar, white musk, warm milk, and hot scones slathered with raspberry jam and honey.

2024.05.14 04:05 TKWander First Stone & Wit order!!

Ooh I'm so excited and wanted to share that excitement somewhere people wouldn't think I'm crazy lol. I just ordered my next sample pack!!!
I ordered for the first time from Stone & Wit. I lean more towards fruity scents and this house was recommended to me a BUNCH lol. They apparently have a Very quick TOT and really generous sample sizes (2ml/$5) I got their 5 pack for $18. I'll list what I got down below, along with their notes. And then when they get in, I'll share my first impressions! I find it fascinating, the changes that can happen to a scent once you let it rest. So, it'll be cool to see how they start out, vs after a little bit, for my full review of them!
Blackberry Heartwood: Blackberry+sandalwood+Amyris (EVERYONE was recommending this one lol)
Lost Temple: Birch Leaves+Cool Air+Incense (I've got a great winter forest vibes undertone scent, and Eldritch from Pineward, and I've got my French Oakmoss from FSW, but I'm still looking for more outdoorsy undertone layer scents. This one's reviews on here were super intriguing!)
Mostly Just Peach: Sweet Peach+Peach Pit+White Musk+Ambrox (I'm kind of trepidatious of this lol. I'm on the hunt for photorealistic peach, but I'm wary of musk and Ambrox cause I don't like anything that goes powdery in any way...but I read way too many reviews saying that this was a Great peach scent....so I'm trying it lol)
Neon Noir: Pink Limeaid+Cannabis Leaf+Plum+Vetiver+Cetelox (This one was soooo intriguing with the scent notes and all the reviews in here. I just had to try it! Also, I'm a Burner, so this one felt So appropriate for all the Burns I'm going to this year lol)
We Played Our Records Backwards too Many Times: Black Cherry+ Orchids+ coffee+double distilled vetiver (I've been on the hunt for a good smokey cherry bomb, like a bombshell with red lips, wearing in a leather jacket, drinking a coffee liquor drink, sitting at an aged oak bar)
_____________________________________________________________
Ones I really wanted to get, but I've saved till next time lol:
Beloved: Apricot Brandy+White Sandalwood+Pale Cedar
Junebug: Mulberries+Pineapple+Gin+Vetive+Virginia cedar
Drink from the Waves: Crabapple+Geranium+Sea Spray
Frith: Dandelion Greens+Witch Hazel+Sage+Vetiver+Blueberries (I read through reviews on here that it's a bit more on the green medicinal side, moreso than blueberries. So, I figured it could wait)
Lychee #17: Lychee+coconut+vanilla (I'm not the biggest on coconut, but this one was raved about in this sub so much that I really want to try it, eventually)
_____________________________________________________________
Anywho, I just wanted to share my excitement lol. Anyone else order some perfume tonight? ;)

2024.05.13 23:46 Lothere55 Six Decants from u/Hype_Moments: Reviewed!

Decant Reviews Part II: The Revenge! This batch came to me from the most excellent u/Hype_Moments, who thoughtfully reached out to me to inform me of his services after I expressed dismay at my inability to obtain samples directly from Montagne. The decants arrived promptly and packaged securely enough to withstand a nuclear blast! I also appreciate the attention to detail when it comes to labeling: matching Montagne's font and including the notes makes the sampling process feel very deluxe. Great experience, would order again!
On to the fragrances. Unless stated otherwise, I have not smelled the inspiration fragrances, so I am judging these on their own merit. For your reference, I typically prefer unisex fragrances, but I decided to roll the dice and included three feminine scents this time. I'm 29, and I work in both office and classroom environments. Let's get into it!
Eau Vanille: This one is not for everyone, but it's definitely for me. The rich, deep vanilla combined with the guiac wood and incense smells like going to mass at a grand Cathedral. Sophisticated, solemn, mysterious. I imagine that Notre Dame smells like this on Good Friday. Honestly, it kind of reminds me of my confirmation. I swear, the oil the bishop puts on your (greasy, 13-year-old) forehead smells a lot like this. That said, I love this because it reminds me of a positive moment in my faith formation, but it may evoke complex or negative reactions in others. The incense calms down after a couple of hours, which allows the vanilla to shine. Definitely not too sweet, and reads straightforwardly unisex to me. If you're a vanilla-lover looking for something a bit different with some oomph, this could be for you. Maybe not the best choice for the heat of summer, but I will be looking to purchase the full bottle come autumn. Would wear to my arch-rival's funeral.
Strawberry Milk: The wildcard of the bunch. I did not think I was going to like this because I thought it was going to be extremely juvenile and sickly sweet. I ordered it out of pure curiosity after hearing about the ungodly sums folks were shelling out to get their hands on a bottle. While it's definitely a sweet gourmand, it's not syrupy sweet. It's kind of fruity and powdery and just a bit herbal. There's something in here that comes off a little minty to my nose, which is baffling considering the notes. I'm not getting anything particularly strawberry-like, though. Maybe a hint of something lactonic, like malted milk powder, and a burnt-sugar note that could be caramel. Very wearable if you like sweet scents. Not obtrusive, kind of like if you gave a your-skin-but-better scent some moxie. Certainly not your typical celebrity scent. I could see a lot of women liking this. The longevity wasn't the best on this one, though: I think I got about four hours out of it. I'm not personally in love with it, but I'm glad I tried it.
Pink Rose Exclusif: Good Lord, y'all. This THE hot girl perfume. The most attractive woman you can think of probably wears this. It's a really beautiful, sweet, creamy, powdery rose wrapped in a veil of incense and supported by vanilla and woody notes in the base. There's some fruitiness in there too, particularly in the opening. Despite the powderiness and incense, it's quite edible smelling; like a fruity sponge cake that's also drenched in rose syrup, served immediately after the Confirmation service (callback!). I recognize this scent because I have encountered it in the wild on women wearing Delina Exclusif or its dupes, and it definitely... affects me, shall we say. This will turn heads for sure. It also lasts forever with excellent projection. I put on 3 sprays, wore it all day, went to sleep, and then my pillow and sheets smelled like Pink Rose Exclusif for DAYS, just from coming into contact with my arm. You absolutely do not need much of this. As much as I love it, I'm on the fence about whether to buy it, because I'm not sure how often I would actually wear it. It's a little more femme than my personal style usually calls for, imo. Plus, I'm not sure I want all the attention this would garner. That said, it's a 10/10 frag, I'd go for it today if I were single and ready to mingle. UPDATE: After writing this review, I got the opportunity to test the OG in-store, and I can confirm that this is a 1 to 1 dupe. I don't detect any difference whatsoever. Nice work, Montagne!
Pink Rose: This one humbled me. I had already tried the Exclusif version, and figured this was the more wearable, daytime version. I did my normal application (1 spray each on wrists & inner elbows, 2 sprays on the neck, 1 on the front of my shirt) and then headed to the office. When my coworker told me I smelled good from 6 feet away, I knew I had overdone it. I was smelling this all day long, from the 8:30 AM application until bed time. And not just little whiffs here and there, I'm talking constant presence in my olfactory organ. A little distracting, if I'm honest. Luckily, it's a beautiful fragrance. Florals are hit or miss for me, but I have a soft spot for rose. Whereas the Exclusif smells like rose dessert, this smells like a living rose growing fresh and vibrant in the garden. The litchi and rhubarb bring in a little sharpness, and there's a green accord in there that's really refreshing. This is rose done in a modern, interesting way, and I dig it. Feminine, but in a way that feels manageable for my typical presentation. Despite my initial blunder, I do think it's more every-day wearable than its sister as long as you are conservative with your application. Will buy for sure, and probably sooner rather than later.
Carnal Gray Extrait: In a word: exquisite. This smells like being wealthy, well-traveled, and the hottest person at the function. Charisma in a bottle. Effortlessly sexy without being provocative. It's well blended, but not linear. We start with a spicy, herbaceous opening; you get the cardamom right away, with some sweet green undertones. Then, a beautiful dry down. It becomes more powdery with a bit sweetness thanks to iris, tonka, and vanilla. The woodiness from cedar and sandalwood and earthiness from vetiver and patchouli keep it from going gourmand, and the result is something deep, dark, and complex. Perfect for special occasions where you want to dress to impress, this would be the ultimate companion to a well-tailored suit or a fancy cocktail dress. Apparently folks are somewhat divided on whether Gris Charnel Extrait leans feminine or masculine, but to me, CGE is perfectly unisex. Great performance; three sprays lasts me all day with moderate projection. This is my favorite fragrance from Montagne so far, and in the running for my favorite fragrance of all time. It's probably not the best choice for the hot, humid summer that's coming my way, but I don't even care, this is going to the top of the queue. 12/10, I am writing in my will that I want this sprayed on me before I go in the casket.
Brooklyn Jazz: At last, a fragrance that I can compare to its inspiration! I have smelled and fallen in love with Maison Margiela's Jazz Club, and was super excited to see how the wallet-friendly version from Montagne stacks up. Indeed, it's a very close match. We have a nice peppery opening that gives way to boozy, rum tobacco heaven. It's not in the notes, but this definitely comes off leathery to my nose. It smells like sitting in a leather armchair, sipping on dark liquor, and smoking... some kind of tobacco product. I want to say a pipe rather than a cigar, but neither is my vice of choice, so I can't be sure. Either way, old school badass. Think Ron Swanson in Duke Silver mode. If anything, there is perhaps more of an herbal accord here that I didn't notice in Jazz Club, but that could be due to the translation from EDT to EDP. Masculine leaning, but still suitable for ladies who appreciate smokey scents. Altogether, a lovely warm and cozy scent. Decent longevity, but the projection could be better (maybe needs maceration). I do like it, but I'm more motivated to get my hands on Carnal Gray Extrait and Eau Vanille, both of which are certainly different, but occupy a similar region of the fragrance family tree. I may pick it up after I make it through the summer.
Thanks for reading my reviews! And special thank-yous to both u/Hype-Moments and u/AyybrahamLmaocoln for supplying this community with decants and saving us from the anxiety of blind-buying. Let me know if you have any recommendations for my next decant order, particularly more masculine scents that are good for summer; I want my collection to have a little of everything. What do y'all think of Afternoon Dive and Torino 2021? That's all, over and out.

2024.05.12 21:28 spicycomputergal Not your typical (femenine) summer fragrances

I have been down a rabbit-hole these past few days, in search of the perfect companion for my tropical vacation this summer. I wasn't disappointed! There are plenty of options out there, for every income and every taste. To preface this, I must say I'm a little difficult when it comes to fresh fragrances: I tend to prefer heavier scents that make a statement, and I am sort of a vintage-style scents lover. I profoundly dislike cardamom, lemon is a no-no, and lavender usually is too masculine for me. I prefer floral, musky scents with the occasional citrus kick, but I avoid the usual tropical flower and fruit. In consequence, these aren't your typical summer fragrances. Here we go, in no particular order:

Granado - Rosa Damascena
OK, this comes in a huge bottle: even 100 mL of an eau de cologne is too much for me. I have been on a rose kick since last year, so I hope this has that intense (or well, freshly intense) rose scent I crave for. The brand also offers shower gels and lotions of the same scent, and I am so excited to try this all together!

Berdoues - Freesia & Coton
I imagine this as a delicate floral, powdery cloud with notes of freesia (duh), musk, cashmere blonde woods and some light citrus to bring some sparkle. I really enjoy cotton notes in perfumes for spring and summer, and usually Berdoues doesn't disappoint with respect to fresh fragrances, so I hope I will like this.

Chanel - Paris Venise
I usually find neroli, petit-grain and orange blossom too harsh, or at least on my skin. So, with the addition of tonka bean and vanilla I hope it won't be the case! I do like orange, for example, but find orange-centric fragrances too masculine for my specific taste so this is the next best thing. And don't even get me started on lemon! My boyfriend and, by transitivity, I, find it too toilet-cleaning-supply-ish: that's why most of the other fresh fragrances are out of the question for me.

Guerlain - Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic
But worry not, dear friend, there's still some citrus to explore! Well, I know, this one is well-known but I couldn't not mention it. I love, love, LOVE juicy mandarin scents. I tend to avoid bitter, green unripe citrus fruits scents, and this is not like that. I have a sample of this fragrance, so I can actually give a review: in some way, the basil gives a coriander-like human-skin muskiness that I find comforting.

Goutal - L'Île au Thé
Another mandarin scent, even though I don't have any sample nor have gone to test it in person. Tea fragrances seem to smell fresh by consensus, even if it's a hot drink, and reviews say this particular fragrance is "sparkly", "a little bit herbal", and "inoffensive" which is exactly what I'm looking for.

Fragonard - Jasmin Perle de Thé
I love jasmine, even in its dirtiest forms, so finding a fragrance for summer that contains it is a dream come true. I suppose the flower won't be as indolic as I'm used to, and that along with tea it will be greener than I usually wear, but I'm eager to give this a try.

Olibanum - Ambrette
Here we enter into the clean musk territory, with a strong contender: ambrette seed and olibanum resin (frankincense, if I'm not mistaken). For some reason, I find incense rather cooling instead of warming, so together with a vegetal musk it is the recipe for success.

Le Couvent - Mimosa
When thinking summer, I think of not-so-classic florals and musks. So, I naturally gravitated towards mimosa: reviews say it smells like the real thing, a honeyed but very subtle floral brightened by some zesty bergamot and backed up by cedar. I suppose there are some other notes, but the notes pyramid doesn't reveal anything else.

Fragonard - Lilas
Hurry up, this is a limited edition scent! I saw that some of us love lilac, with its spring-time freshness and delicate powderiness, and are actively looking for our holy grail. I associate the fragrance to fresh linen in my mind, so that's why such a spring-themed perfume is tropical appropriate to my nose. I had the pleasure to try it in store, and needless to say, it is very pretty.

Of course, L'Occitane offers a number of fresh fragrances that are worth every penny, but I haven't been personally in a store to try them and none appealed me from the notes. Also, have you tried any of these? Or do you have any other uncommon summer scent recommendations? I'm all ears!

2024.05.11 05:46 KashiraPlayer Wherein Mythpunk Olfactive Reanimated My Corpse - Reviews of Mossmallow Puff, Strangeling, and Bubblegum Puff

Getting my first Trinket Pack from Mythpunk Olfactive is maybe the most excited I've ever been about a perfume order. I love the Old Internet aesthetic of the website, the perfumer's musings, the thoughtful notes on gender expression. I've also been really enjoying learning about perfume from the perfumer, Ashe's, involvement on this sub. My brain is curious, but my wallet is empty, so perfume classes haven't been an option for me. It rules to see her flitting in and out of the sub explaining how she composed accords in her scents or why certain aroma chemicals might be making a particular scent come across as musty. The social media aspect of running a business seems wretched and grueling to me; her kindness, warmth, and desire to inform are really admirable in our cynical, capitalist deathscape.
And in addition to that, I also smelled the perfumes, and they are so cool! My reviews are going to be on the ramblier side, because these brought to mind a lot of memories and senses of place, senses of ideas. But imo, you can't actually tell someone what something smells like, because we all smell things differently. That's why we rely so much on simile and storytelling. I mean, it's why we read reviews even though we all have lists of notes.
Mossmallow Puff
pillowy marshmallows cradled in the trees of a cloud forest: curtains of rain, blankets of mist, crushed clary sage, gnarled trees draped with lichens, feathery ferns, and dewdrop mosses, moon-kissed amber resins
This was the first one I tried, sleepy after a long shift at work. Creamy marshmallow hits me first and then settles into a fascinating, dusty atmospheric. It doesn't smell as foresty green as I expected based on the notes and other reviewers saying things like that it reminds them of eating marshmallows while sitting deep in the woods. The image that comes to mind for me is a mossy cave. The clary sage, mosses, and woody notes don't feel wet and lush to me, more like plant life growing along stone walls. The marshmallow acts as a glue for these notes but is also...unsettling. It's a sort of sweetness that doesn't belong in this setting. It reminds me a bit of Solstice Scents' Parlor Trick as well as Hexennacht's Pearanormal Activity, which have "bone musk" and "spectral musk" notes respectively. The marshmallow is warm and sweet but has this underlying unearthliness to it that feels spooky to me. I think about fairy tales in which people travel to Hell. I think about the experience of exploring a cave and what I would do if I suddenly smelled muskysweet marshmallows when I was quite a ways in. It would mean I wasn't alone with the moss and rocks and bats. I think about this video and show it to my boyfriend, and neither of us sleep well.
I try this perfume on in the morning on a day off a few days later. It still smells like spooky marshmallow moss cave to me. To be clear, this is not a bad thing. It feels like a scent for cool weather, for rain or snow. I imagine myself in a big, green sweater, sipping coffee and working on a story, smelling like this, and it makes me happy. It's simultaneously comforting and a little creepy. I worked out while wearing it, and I think it helped preserve my sense of self when I might otherwise have felt silly. It gives me a strange feeling like my child self is observing me to determine if I'm a satisfactory grownup. Maybe the unsettling feeling from the marshmallow is also from that child's hopeful spying. The kid likes the perfume at least.
Strangeling
iris, peppermint mate, vanilla, green ivy, ink-stained fingers, notebook paper, white moss, shimmering woods
The first time I tried this, it was only for a short time in the morning before I ended up showering to go out unexpectedly. It is extremely calming and reminds me of feeling resolute on a blue/purple day, the sort where you can't really understand why everyone is complaining about the sun not being out, because it seems nicer to you that way. It smells minty, papery, and fleetingly sweet in a way I can't quite put my finger on. And most importantly, it smells astonishingly like a lost artifact from my childhood: a sleepy time lotion from Wal-Mart that my mother used to purchase for me that I loved very much and which I have not been able to identify in adulthood.
I tried the perfume again more properly last night. It is truly beautiful. It reminds me of writing my dreams down in spiral bound notebooks with the windows open in my childhood home in the middle of nowhere. It makes me think of spring but lacks the mugginess I associate with it. The "perfumer's musings" mention that this scent is based on childhood experiences, which I believe were in a dry climate, and I enjoy feeling the ways in which our sense memories overlap and don't. I note a little pang within myself. The scent--gorgeous, inky notebook paper, wafting earthy irises, peppermint tea, a general woodsiness--is physiologically relaxing to me but makes me feel a little helpless for how much it brings me back to a certain point in my childhood. My boyfriend says it smells like a generic cologne to him, which I find extremely odd. He tends to like greens and atmospherics but in this batch has liked the spicy, fruity scents. Which is fine but strange. What is also strange is that I start picking up a scent beneath all the other notes that smells, to me, exactly like rubber cement. Ever since I had COVID this year, I have occasional bouts of parosmia with certain smells, so I ask my boyfriend to smell again to see if I'm smelling something wrong. He takes a *big* whiff, and his face turns red, and he grabs his head. I asked him what's wrong, and he says he can't really explain it. He says the scent triggered a sensation in his nose that was very unpleasant but hard to describe and goes on to say, "It's like my nose went, 'VVVVVVVVVVVVV!!!" Is that helpful?" I say it isn't really but that I'll write it down. I ask if he'd like me to take the perfume off, since his sense of smell is very sensitive, and he says no, just that he can't snarf it up close like he just had. I wear it for the rest of the night. I really do find it very beautiful but can't quite get my nose to stop smelling whatever it's interpreting as rubber cement. It calms down a bit for me after I walk around in the rain with it on and come back, but it's still there if I sniff more closely. I *think* I remember Ashe mentioning that this particular batch of Strangeling is a bit more powdery than usual due to needing to use a different distributor for a particular material? If that's the case, I'd like to try a different formulation of this at some point, because I like it so much, it's just got something in it that I'm smelling kind of wrong. And if not, I'll leave it for a while and see if my nose decides to behave.
Bubblegum Puff
a whimsical, floral bubblegum note has been created by combining banana, pineapple, and orange with ylang ylang fractions, rose de mai, orange blossom, lightly spiced vanilla, pink amber, and berry-like musks
This is so unlike anything I'm usually interested in, but something about the description really drew me in. I am generally disinterested in gourmands, particularly those with bakery notes, but I've been realizing that my overall taste in perfume is fairly broad; it's a lot about execution. Something about the idea of resinous bubblegum just sounds so fun and also weird. And, with no hyperbole whatsoever: holy shit. Holy shit!!!!
The first thing I wrote down just smelling Bubblegum Puff on a shred of paper was, "Bubblegum Puff is a motorcycle lesbian smoking outside on the porch. She smiles at you in a way that's like, 'I can tell you're looking at me, and I like that.' Gay romance at nighttime perfume." I stand by this. I decided to wear this on a lunch date with my girlfriend and sort of regretted it just because it is fucking nuclear strength, and we were just grabbing lunch down town during her work break. Like, I sprayed this once for both arms and once for my neck and chest, and I walked around a lot in the hot sun, and I still smelled like it all day. I normally like little quiet perfumes, but this smells so good that I'm just going to be more careful in the future. I will note, though, that this fully concealed the gross smell of sunscreen that I need to be slathered in to exist whatsoever outside from May to October. I don't think it has patchouli in it, but it reminds me of a fruitchouli in the way that it's fruity and spicy/smoky. Resinous really is a good way to describe it. I've seen it described as a "grown up" bubblegum, but that doesn't quite sit right with me, because it's so playful that I don't really want to call it grown up. It's a complex perfume interpretation of bubblegum that is crazy fun.
This perfume is interesting for me, gender-wise. I am non-binary; certain femme-feeling fragrances hit really strange for me, and it's hard to explain why some do and some don't. Smelling like a flower garden? Awesome, love that. Smelling like a fancy lady wearing a silk robe burning incense in her parlor? No! It makes me feel weird! Why am I suddenly wearing a bodice? This perfume is undeniably leans femme, but it smells like the kind of femininity that is comfortable to me. It accommodates my taste for the unconventional and also gives me an outlet to try something that's normally a bit out of my comfort zone in terms of expression. And oh yeah, what does it smell like? I'd say a raucous house party where everyone is drinking sweet, fruity mixed drinks. Your crush gets extremely close to your face to talk to you, because it's the only way to hear anything over all the voices and music. Your heart is beating really fast, and people are bouncing balloons back and forth over your head. It smells like that. (Also, my boyfriend wanted to wear my shirt to bed after I wore it.) 🩷🫧

2024.05.10 21:59 TKWander Pineward Reviews

Hi everyone! The other day when I was sharing all the green scents I had, and my reviews of them, I realized I had never done a full review of all the Pineward scents I've gotten, and my review of the house as a whole, so far...
My rating system: 1/5 - I actively don't like this scent/it makes me sick 2/5 - ehh, I don't really like it very much/it doesn't smell like a perfume at all 3/5 - meh, it's okay. It'll be ok layered with something else, or someone else may like it, it's just not for me. 4/5 - I do like it, it's just got something small missing from making it perfect, ie: I don't like the dry down, or it fades too fast, or it's just missing 1 note or 2 5/5 - I absolutely adore this scent. Any more and I would want to swim in it lol
__________________________________________________________________
Overall Review of the House so far:
I've tried 19 scents from them so far. Most of any other house. Mainly cause they have a super affordable sample option (1.8ml/$6) and they gifted me so many with my first order. I bought 13 and they gifted me 6 additional scents.
This is The Most atmospheric scent house I've found yet. Each scent transports you to a different location and tells a story.
Definitely a house to let settle for a while, though. At first I didn't think I liked many of them. After 6 months, I like most all of them. I just end up using a lot of them for mixers. Though, a surprisingly high amount turned out to be standalone scents for me!
They are a bit more of a unisex/masc perfume/cologne house. But, I actually like unisex complex scents, cause I like to layer them underneath sweeter, more one-note scents that I find.
Turn Around Time was actually very fast compared to the other houses (ordered 11/24 of last year, the order was sent out 11/28, and I don't remember exactly when I got it in, but it wasn't a very long time after that. I was actually surprised at the fast TOT, especially because they included in their thank you note an apology for being so late! I was like, huh? Ya'll are super fast actually! (especially compared to houses like Fantome, which I love, but take FOREVER) And they included 6 freebies in there as well, which was phenomenal!
Just be forewarned, some of these scents do stain!! So I wouldn't necessarily spray on clothing.
__________________________________________________________________
Apple Tabac 5/5
Notes: fresh red apple, tobacco, fir balsam, rum resin, dried fruits.
First impression: I absolutely love this scent and it is a sweet unisex standalone for me. This scent is Super well balanced. It is a pop of pure red apple juice right in your face, like you're in the apple barn, drinking fresh cider. You smell tobacco drying from the rafters, the fir trees outside, the rum resin, the dried fruits, everything. It all balances Super nicely, but you can still pick out every single note. I absolutely love this and will probably be a Fall Staple for me (or whenever I want to evoke that fall feeling in my chest lol. It's May, but in smelling it, I totally felt the fall chill lol)
Dry down: still smells phenomenal. You don't really lose any of the notes, even the apple, which is rare for me
**I really like layering this over Ponderosa (listed below)*
Boreal 4/5
pine needles, mint, cedar, resins, moss.
Frigid forest of the northern wilderness. Chilly mint gives way to a soft bed of creamy cedar, pine, and moss.
First Reaction out of the bottle: If you like Mint, this one's for you. It is Straight Mint. The cedar pine and moss were almost non existent props to the Very strong Mint, first out the bottle wet. Me personally, I was hoping for more of a Hint of mint overlaying a stronger scent of cedar and pine and moss, but the opposite is truer with this one. You do get an underlayer of cedar on the drydown, but the majority is full on mint.
After months of letting it sit, I came back to it and it is Much more balanced. Much more of a winter vibes forest scent I could get behind. Essentially she's the Winter Witch. A very Minty unisex woods scent
The long Dry down: dries down to a faint crisp woods scent. Still very pleasant to wear

Borealis 2/5 Notes: snowdrifts, peppermint, camphor, black tea, black elder, valerian root, ocean spume, fir balsam, orris root, pine needles, incense, sandalwood, Irish ambergris, cedarmoss, patchouli, deer musk (botanic accord), ashes.
First Reaction: I REALLY did not like this one. It was a freebie given (which they were amazing to include so many freebies), but this one, to me had a very stringent vibe with an underlayer of almost urine smell. I don't get very much of the pine or any of the snowdrifts or peppermint. But it does have a very 'black apothecary' vibe to the smell. Like it's the smell of an old trappegatherer's cabin in the woods. A witch in the woods that you go to, to trade with when you're desperate. If you like musk and dark foresty herbs and dirt, then this one is for you. It's like the dark chaotic marshlands sister witch to Boreal
This is the poster child for letting a scent rest lol.
Dry down: It Definitely softens on the drydown, but there's still that weird note in there, for me, that makes it not so pleasant as its sister Boreal
Also, to note about this scent, the first listed notes are snowdrifts and peppermint, but I do NOT get those notes at all. It's very much more 'Marshland forests by the sea maybe in winter...when winter is year round lol like Alaska....which makes sense with the name now that I think of it lol
Steading 4/5
Notes: tobacco, hay, beeswax, barley, dried needles, poplar, hops, maple, and wisps of peat smoke. A dense wheaty tobacco perfume with dried fir needles and honeyed maple sweetness.
First Reaction: If you like fresh natural straight out the tree, maple syrup, then this is the scent for you! I do definitely get the honey and maple, that is FOR SURE. At first straight out the bottle, I didn't think I liked this scent. It was a Strong Maple front.
BUT, after letting it settle, I tried it again, and it is now strangely becoming one of my fast favorites! The maple has mellowed out a bit and now I almost smell straight honey. The longer I smell it, the more I feel like I've been taking a autumn drive and stopped in at one of those side orchards that are selling homemade honey and maple syrup and you take a tasting tour. Personally, though, I'll still probably layer it onto something a bit more foresty/woodsy/cedar smelling to even out that super strong sweet maple. Cause on the Drydown it still completely smells like Maple honey. It's a really good honey scent though. A lot of honey's come off strangely urine-y on me. This one doesn't. It's like a true maple honey. Really nice. Almost nostalgic when it dries down
Eldritch 3.5/5 (I'll use it as a mixer, but not on it's own. It's a bit much on its own lol)
Notes: Leather, Myrrh, patchouli, fir, oolong tea, opoponax, smoke, pine needles, oakmoss.
Lair of ancient eldritch abominations, a resinous and dark perfume for the bold and unafraid.
this Fall 2023 Version included additional tea & moss
This was a Curiosity's sake purchase when I saw this on a list of 'If you want to smell like a witch' suggestions (very accurate for this to be on that list). First on my skin I definitely get the sharp leather notes and I think the myrrh. It is definitely a challenging scent and more of a unisex or masculine scent, but me as a witchy woman, I love it. I think I'm totally getting the Opoponax (resin that smells like oak honey powder and leather), the smoke and the fir. First out of the gate I feel like it makes me smell like a dark and mysterious witchy apothecary owner during the 1700s in a port town, with gunpowder and fire tinging the air. And you're making poisons and special magical bullets. And I think I do really like the addition of tea and moss into the scent, otherwise, I think it'd be more of a pirate-y unisex/masc scent. With the Leather and Myrrh and oolong tea and smoke, it has a bit of a 'Buccanneepirate' vibe to it. But with the Patchouli and oak moss and pine needles, it gives witchy and slightly southern vibes, which leads my head to go Bayou pirate/witch lol. Right after I got it, though, it was definitely a challenging scent. But, trust me, let it sit, it will get so much better with time.
First dry down it softens beautifully, so if you think it's too strong and overpowering at first, don't worry. It'll mellow
Long dry down, it does get a bit musty and stale herbally after a bit. But, it is Just perfect if you want a remnant scent of 'I just walked through a witchy Apothecary in Savannah'
Just keep in mind, right out the bottle, it is a very challenging scent. Make sure to let it rest a bit, and then try it on your skin, too, before judging.
*note: if you're not an herbally/witchy person, this may be more of a masculine scent pull. I could totally see giving this scent to a guy friend/family member, if you get it and it's not for you. For me personally, though, I love it as a dark wet witchy base layer under something super fruity (like SF&F's Lilac & Gooseberries, or Lorelai from Fantome), to give me the perfect fruity darkly complex witchy scents.
Sadly, the top notes are a fast faders on me (but I think it may just be that my skin gobbles scents ). After about 2 hours it had faded to a Very soft dried herbs, leather, and smoke. It really does perfectly pair w/ Strange Fire & Fumery's Lilac & Gooseberries, though, to give a fruity floral witch vibe. That soft dried herbs, leather, and smoke scent, though lasted a Very long time, till the end of the day pretty much

Ponderosa 5/5
Notes: Ponderosa resin, ponderosa needles, cedar, vanilla, strawberry, cinnamon, butterscotch, beeswax, raisin cookies
First Impressions: definitely another atmospheric scent. I get sweet resins and wood, like I'm in a wood barn or wood lodge. It's a very sweet woodsy scent. Think a wood lodge up in Gatlinburg, where you can get all you can eat pancakes and sweet pastries all day with fresh syrups. I don't get too much strawberry in there, but almost like you can smell someone's strawberry pancakes with maple syrup in this wood lodge.
I feel like this would be a WONDERFUL deepening layer underneath a strawberry vanilla scent that seems too one-note, to really give a full bodied complex scent. But, quite honestly, It's actually a fine stand alone scent for me, too
Dry down: It still smells really great! More into the wood/resin smell with a touch of butterscotch and vanilla, rather than super gourmand-y. But, the drydown is still a super pleasant scent I don't mind wearing
**I actually really like layering this under Apple Tabac**

Hayloft 4/5
Notes: hay, lavender honey, crocus, sweet vernal grass, bison grass, toasted almond, hazelnut, oats, dusty wheat.
Another atmospheric barn scent, but more a springtime barn: fresh sweet grasses and flowers hanging from the rafters, the warm sweet hot cross buns in your basket from breakfast. You're having breakfast in the loft, overlooking your garden. I do wish there was a bit 'more(?)' to this scent though? Like either bring in some more vanilla notes to make it a true gourmand OR bring in more lavender and herbs to make it a more green scent. I think though, because of that, that makes this a perfect layering scent. So, depending on how I want to smell that day, I can layer this under a more gourmand scent. Or, I can layer it under a more floral or green scent
though, after smelling it again after the drydown....nah, it balances out super nicely to a light spring wood barn scent. I don't think you even need to mix it with something. You can wear it on its own. I'll bring it up to a 4.5/5 rating-wise

White Fir 5/5
Notes: orange, ginger, white fir, clove, anise, pine, musk, vetiver, oakmoss
The PERFECT wintery citrus scent. Super crisp. You definitely get the citrus and ginger and white fir. The only more perfect addition would be to maybe layer it with a patchouli or deeper woodsy/cedar scent, I think, to give it a bit more depth and less 'Winter Cleaning day' vibe.
*For a sweeter vibe, though, I layer this under Kinmokusei from Fantome, and it gives me pretty much a perfect witchy lemon citrus green herbal scent*
Clemenpine 1.5/5
Notes: Clementine, Blood Orange, Maritime Pine, Night-Blooming Jasmine, Saffron Flower, Rough Suede, Passion Fruit, White Lotus, Fir Balsam, Tobacco Leaf, Cedar Planks, Leather, Sandalwood, Pacific Ambergris.
I really wish I had had the chance to let this one settle for a few months like the others, but sadly it got dropped onto my cement floor and shattered, so I only had my first impressions of it, which was that it smelled like PURE cleaning fluid. Which really sucks, cause I love orange and citrusy scents and was very hopeful for this one. I may eventually order a sample again, just to give it a second shot, since all the rest of these benefited so much from letting them sit and rest
Meadowmoss 1.5/5
Oakmoss, Alpine Sandwort, Wild grass, Green Wheat, Orange Blossom, Fir Balsam, Tomato Leaf, Azure Bluet, Mountain Wildflowers
First impressions: This one is one of those scents I wouldn't actually wear. BUT, one I would use on like my dryer balls or as a room spray on furniture in spring. It really is like you're standing out in an open field in the Swiss alps singing, the Hills are Alive, next to a wayward nun. If that's what you'd like to smell like? This one is for you! It just screamed 'linen sheet' to me, rather than perfume. Also, I unfortunately have an autoimmune allergy to nightshades and I didn't realize this had Tomato leaf in it :/
So, it's one I'm gifting to my mom
Ivymoss 3.5/5
Notes: Climbing Ivy, Green Tea, Spearmint, Lime Rind, Lemon Verbena, Waterlily, Emerald Cypress, Mugo Pine, Cedarwood, Oakmoss, Treemoss, Cedarmoss.
Another one that DEFINITELY needs rest before you judge. At first it was purely going to be another dryer ball scent. But after Months of letting it rest (like legit half a year), I actually think I like the scent enough to maybe wear it! (at least as an undertone, if not as a standalone). It's a very Bright Green early Springtime vibes scent. Fresh, without smelling overtly like cleaning fluid or laundry detergent. It's truly like walking through a forest in very early spring, with the air still crisp, but new plants starting to grow.
It's not one I would wear a Lot, I don't think....but maybe in early spring layered under an apple-y scent. Or maybe as an undertone layer with something like a honeysuckle scent, to balance it out for me.

Greymist 5/5
Notes: Noble Fir, Scotch Pine, Expressed Citron, Blond Tobacco, Botanical Musk, Vetiver.
Another one that Really needs to rest, before you try, cause I'm pretty sure it was on the list of (I REALLY don't like) when I first scented these, but now months after, this one's gonna be one of my favorite winter scents, I think. It legit smells like Christmas time. The fir and pine Really stands out, and you get that little bit of tobacco in there too, almost like you're hugging Santa and he smokes a pipe lol.
Acadian 3.5/5
Sweet Yuzu, Bergamot, Juniper Berry, Ivy, Eucalyptus, Waterlily, Goldenrod, Heliotrope, Seaweed, Cedar, Oakmoss
This scent reminds me of trips to the Lost sea or Rock city. Smelling the damp mossy forests and wet mountain stone. That smell of caves found along hikes in damp foggy weather. I kinda flip between loving this and not so loving this one. I can't really pick out any of the individual notes at all, which is sad, cause I do like a lot of those individual scents. But, it is a really nice general unisex/masculine scent
A little goes a Very long way, though. It's got a very lengthy throw. I like pairing a DOT of it underneath one of my sweeter fruity or floral scents. If I use too much, there's a note in there that's a bit wonky and it goes a bit powdery and strong and gives me a headache. And I don't like this one as much on the drydown. Powder notes tend to last the longest on me (and they're the worst for me) and it gets very strong and weirdly powdery/perfumey on the drydown, sadly, which is why I put it at a 3.5 for me. It may be great for someone else though. My brother says it smells like a generic male cologne lol
Akero 5/5
Notes: green apple, benzoin, patchouli, sandalwood, cedar.
The first bit of a freshly picked green apple. When I smell this, it transports me to a green apple orchard, with the apples just getting ripe. It's definitely got a Green earthy undertone, but the bright apple evens it out a bunch. I really love this, even alone, or layered with a sweeter fruit scent, like Kinmousekai from fantome. I do wish the Cedasandalwood stood out a bit more, though. I may have to try putting a drop of this onto an actual cedar chip. See how it smells

Caravansary 5/5 freebie
Notes: fir balsam, deer musk (botanic accord), vanilla, black tea, lavender, blue spruce, blue chamomile, treemoss, incense, mulched pinecone, campfire smoke.
First impressions: Like Olle+Max's Summer Witch is like a summer roadtrip for me, hitting up all the hippy/witchy side shops and thrift shops along the way….This is the winter version. Again a super atmospheric scent, it instantly transports me to my car in winter, riding along the backroads, smelling the fresh fir and pine trees, the smell of camp smoke in the distance and the herbs I smoke cleansed the car with before the trip, along with the hot tea I have in my traveler mug for the journey ahead. It's definitely unisex, but honestly, I could probably wear this in winter by itself. Or, I'll use it as a layering element, to bring a bit of smoke/incense/winter travel vibes to a blend
Gingerbread 5/5 freebie
Notes: ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, wheat absolute, butter co2, molasses distillate, brown sugar, black walnut, milk, cream, vanilla.
This one was a freebie thrown in (They included a Ton of freebies, which was so phenomenal!)
First impressions, another very well balanced set for late fall/winter. It smells like a fresh gingerbread snap (those hard old school ginger cookies), you can smell the cinnamon and cloves so much that it almost comes off as fresh cut wood which is definitely a complimentary vibe for this scent. Though, that may also be the wheat absolute and black walnut coming out, too. The sharpness from the ginger is mellowed out by the milk and cream and brown sugar and molasses. Another scent that blends very well, but you can still pick out all the individual notes and they tell a story. It's really cool how this house does that!
Christmas Wine Freebie 3.5/5
Notes: cranberry, plum, blood orange, cloves, nutmeg, fir balsam
It's definitely got the vibe of mulled Christmas wine. I'm kind of meh about it, though? There's a note in there I'm not fond of (I think the nutmeg) and I wish there was a bit of a crisp forest underlayer in there and maybe a bit more fruit, less mulled wine spices. BUT, this does make for a perfect mulled wine top note mixer on one of my more winter woods scents, like Grey Mist and Caravansary…and then maybe getting a winter berry scent to layer over top everything. This is a great mid layer scent for me.
Glühwein Pinewardperfume Freebie 5/5
Notes: Cranberry, champaca, cherry compote, rasberry, fir balsam, chocolate, davana attar, oakmoss, frankincense
Quite honestly everything I want Christmas Wine to be. In the description it says it was actually built on a base of the christmas wine scent, but with additional festive nuance, and this 2023 version is less sweet with more cocoa and champaca. This is actually pretty sweet, so I can't imagine what it was before. It's like sweet winter berries, and you can pretty distinctly scent the fir and frankincense and oakmoss. So, basically, all my notes from Christmas wine and how to improve it…they did it in this lol, it is Gluhwein. Just get this one lol
Then last but not least, they also included another freebie that isn't listed in their scent collection for sale. It's a Mint Cocoa. Which, honestly is Another poster child for letting rest lol. At first it was a bit chemically and I didn't like it at all. Now, it fluctuates from being a photorealistic mint chocolate….to weirdly smelling like my dad's alcoholic egg nogg that he loves every year at after Thanksgiving-New Years. I think it'll be a great mixer or even standalone this winter for me. Very nostalgic vibes.

2024.05.09 23:41 Schneetmacher Haul Reviews: Pulp Fragrance!

Hello, IMAM! I recently placed a direct order with Pulp Fragrance, which is the first time I’ve directly ordered from a house outside the U.S. I did a direct order for two reasons:
  1. I received a “password” in an email for early access to new scents (forgot to include this in my previous post); and
  2. I was keen to get a FS of a loved fragrance of which I’d run out.
It’s important to note that, while I initially chose the fragrances based on notes, I make a point of not double-checking when I test, going in as blindly as possible. Now, on to the reviews!
“Hall of Mirrors” – pistachio gelato, buzzy neon, plastic Halloween masks, crushed hay, hot iron, cream soda spilled onto uneven floorboards and worn leather boots
This was the FS I got, so this review is less and outright review and more a celebratory return. Opening my rollerball, I got a gorgeous whiff of French vanilla, rich and creamy like a gallon of Edy’s French Vanilla ice cream – a little sus at first because the color leans yellow, but the taste is worth it!
On the skin, this opens with a note somewhere between cream soda and someone’s spilled ice cream on gravel. From there, it morphs into a kind of high end hairspray accord, where you wonder how these carnies got their hands on the good stuff for their shows. There’s a slight nuance of leather running through the latter stages, but it isn’t pronounced.
I’ve compared this in the past to “Witching Night,” because that one has a similar hairspray note; but WN is also much “safer,” if you catch my drift. HoM is very much the weirder one of the two.
Rating: 5/5 – welcome to the funhouse
“Vaniglia Grave” – liturgical incense & smoked vanilla
On a rainy day when the temperature had dropped a bit, I reached for one of the new Vaniglias and grabbed “Vaniglia Grave.” Out of the vial, I smelled vanilla and… sage? That couldn’t be right. I couldn’t have bought, internationally, a fragrance sample that contained sage as a prominent note.
See, I have a sage problem. I don’t like it. Not even in real life, like when it’s used in recipes – and especially not when people are burning it. I swear, I’m not a toxic demon! :-P I just… don’t like sage. (So far, the only fragrance where I’ve been able to tolerate it has been Solstice Scents “Wilcox’s.”)
But that’s what I smelled out of the vial. And that’s what I smelled when I applied to my skin. The vanilla didn’t even stick around on my skin, manly the sage and what smelled suspiciously like aldehydes – which I also can’t wear (very soapy). Everything came together to leave me scratching my head as to why I would’ve bought this in the first place.
Looking at the notes, I’m left thinking that the frankincense used here must be extremely lemony (or, that it might actually be “Brazilin frankincense” breu branca). I usually enjoy frankincense, but here it’s quite acidic and not what I wanted out of this scent at all, unfortunately.
Rating: 1/5 – scrubbing the floor on my hands and knees
“South Star” – sweet creamy peach, vanilla beans, liatrix, & a woody-ambrette accord, all topped off with a hint of cinnamon
Splitting up the Vaniglias, the next sample I reached for was “South Star.” (This is also the only one I got that wasn’t part of the newest release.) I opened it and was met with the most delightfully sweet & spicy (as in cozy, not hot) scent that I couldn’t place at first. Then, I realized: cinnamon toast. Out of the vial, and into the opening, this fragrance smells like cinnamon toast, I kid you not. For a moment, I worried about being able to wear this in warmer weather – after all, I was pretty sure this had been on my Spring & Summer to-test list.
Once it settles on the skin, however, it’s not so intensely edible. The cinnamon and sugar soften into a note that’s rather woody. Like vanilla poured over cedar – better yet, cedar & tonka beans. It’s more of a spring & fall scent than outright summer.
The longevity for this one is ludicrous, though: at least 12 hours. Only in the end stages does a syrupy peach make itself known on the skin. I only wish the peach was stronger.
Rating: 4/5 – cozy but cool (⌐▨_▨)
“Pi Day” – lemon custard, rosewater meringue, buttery pie crust, & radiant solar musk
This was a freebie, as a promotion for the newest release (on March 14th). And a full-size! I really hoped this would be the sweet lemon I’ve been searching for, going by the image of lemon meringue pie on the label. Out of the vial, it’s definitely candied lemon!
On the skin, however, the sweetness barely hangs around before the perfume becomes… well, perfume-y. I was surprised at how traditional this wound up leaning. While I applaud not letting fruity accords turn Jolly Rancher, I wish I still got to enjoy the fruit aspect.
This product is currently not for sale, but I don’t know if that will change in the future.
Rating: 3/5 – perfume sprayed at a vanity that has a plate that once housed lemon meringue pie
“Enchanted Orchard” – pink apples, sugared raspberries, sparkling prosecco, lychee, white lily, magnolia, & sandalwood musk
This was another freebie, apparently a “scent of the month” type thing. I was a little nervous when I read the name “orchard,” because while I love apple-scented things (like candles), I cannot wear apple perfume (aldehydes). Still, I went ahead and tested.
And I wound up testing this twice, because I couldn’t actually smell anything when I applied to my skin. I was hesitant to even review this because I couldn’t smell anything on me! Out of the vial, at least, it was vaguely apple-ish, like an apple version of a mimosa.
Looking at the notes list for this review, it should be much louder than it is! Raspberries, lilies, magnolias, sandalwood… this is something I should project like crazy. But it’s barely a whisper.
Rating: 1/5 – there and gone
“Vaniglia Presto” – early morning spring greenery & sweet vanilla bean
Long since having forgotten what the notes for this were (beyond vanilla), the whiff I got out of the vial was unexpectedly fruity. But not a particularly sweet fruit, no; it was something between cucumber (scientifically a fruit) and honeydew. Very garden-fresh! Applying it to the skin brought the actual vanilla out to play, and the rest of the wear of this perfume as a general interplay between these accords. While not a huge projector, it is a long-lasting fragrance.
While this isn’t something I’d repurchase, I’ll wear it this summer as a fruitier, sweeter alternative to Poesie “Athena,” which is much drier.
Rating: 3.5/5 – Spring is in the air!
“Pluto” – gunpowder, raspberries, black peony, saffron, opopanax, & redwood musk
This was the last one of my Pulp haul, and perhaps the most unusual. It opened with a tangy metallic note that wasn’t unpleasant, but also isn’t something I generally seek out. It felt familiar, I couldn’t remember where I’d smelled it before… until, a few hours later, I recalled that same note intertwined with a particularly meaty pomegranate in Stone & Wit “Turyin.” This was gunpowder.
The gunpowder is, without a doubt, the strongest note here, especially wafting up from the skin. Close to the skin, there’s a fresh fruitiness that makes me smile, since raspberry is one of my favorite notes; but, the raspberry is only close to the skin. At least this doesn’t go the way of “Ignis,” which was sharply Jolly Rancher; and it has a cold smokiness that befits the last planet in the Milky Way (yes, it’s a planet, it has always been and will always be a planet, I will die on this hill). But it’s a little too cold for me. I just wish the raspberry was stronger.
Rating: 3/5 – duel at dawn on an ice planet
This haul was… less successful than I’d hoped, but I did walk away with at least one genuine hit (“South Star”). And I’m also just really, really happy to have “Hall of Mirrors” in my collection again!

2024.05.09 22:46 grathea 10 Stone & Wit reviews

Blackberry Heartwood
Blackberry accord, sandalwood accord
First take: Bubble bath. Sweet berry bubble bath. I was so stoked to like this one, but I think berry scents just aren't for me. After letting it rest for two weeks, I still get bubble bath when it goes on wet, but it dries down to a sugary cooked berry sauce with some woodiness. I don't hate it, but I don't know that I'll wear it. Maybe it'll soften after a while and be good for layering when I want to smell like pie in the fall. 4/10
Cipher
Lime, jasmine, spices, oud (black agar) accord, raspberry
Wow, this one is bright and tart. The lime and raspberry are fresh, and the jasmine is prominent. It's a little heady, but I like it! As it dries down the jasmine really dominates and it turns to a spicy floral. After a while it does go a little dusty. 6.5/10
Ashara
Black tea, ink, white oud (agar) accord, dates
Very masculine, very well balanced, may not be my scent but I find it attractive. 6/10
Drink from the waves
Crab apple, geranium, sea salt
Very soapy/play-doh at first sniff. Reminds me of the soapiness in geranium kissekiller from Black Hearted Tart, which tells me that geranium just has a tendency to come across as soapy to me, sadly. Weirdly, I used to have this geranium scented mist that I LOVED and smelled tart and sweet and really interesting, and as this dries down it's walking right on the border between soapy play-doh and that version of geranium I really loved. I may come around on this one yet! 3/10
Her skirt is stars
Chili pepper, dark chocolate, mezcal, incense, vanilla, labdanum
This one is interesting. I don't love it. I get the mezcal and the labdanum and incense, and altogether the result is a cloying woody sweetness that doesn't work for me. Really headache inducing unfortunately. Curious to see if some rest time helps balance it out, I think some sharp/spicy chili pepper coming out would help balance things. 2/10
Lost Temple
Cedar leaves, Birch leaves, ozone, incense, cedar, smoke
First take: Smoky, woody, incense. Not bad, not remarkable, not necessarily my style. After letting this rest for a couple weeks I like it slightly more - like someone briefly burned incense in a cedar chest with the window open on a rainy day in the woods. 5.5/10
Revival Shoppe (B)
Bergamot, tonka/coumarin, oak moss
This one is nice and subtle. The bergamot is bright, the tonka adds a bit of nutty sweetness, and the oak moss lends a grassy note that balances it. Leans masculine, bought this one because I thought my husband might like it as a beard oil (he does)! I wouldn't personally wear it but what matters is that he likes it. 6/10
Verity (B)
Mint, ambergris accord, cedar
At first whiff this one smells weirdly similar to Her Skirt is Stars to me, despite not sharing any notes. Instead of the cloying sweetness, it has a warm muskiness from the ambergris and cedar. Not bad, not my style. 5/10
Doble o nada (B)
Lime, rum, tobacco, vanilla
First take: Balance on this one might be a little off, not sure how I feel about the vanilla + lime combo. After letting it rest for two weeks I like it slightly more but I still just don't know about the lime & vanilla. It's giving key lime pie cocktail with a burning cigar? 4/10
1899
Lemon, whiskey, caramel, incense, cedar
Out of the bottle first impression, not my favorite. The whiskey note is STRONG, wow. This smells like if someone dunked their burning incense in a whiskey sour. Smoky, woody, lemony, not horrible but not my style at all. 2/10
Overall, this is a really interesting house and would be great for those who like sweet, woody, masculine-leaning scents. Personally, I found most of them to be a bit cloying and probably won't add them to the rotation (except maybe Cipher and potentially Ashara). However, I've had good results giving scents a long rest time, so I'll be trying these again this fall to see if my opinions have changed! I'm usually a gourmand fiend - wanted to branch out a bit! - so take these reviews with a grain of salt if any of these scents sound like your cup of tea.

2024.05.09 20:18 TKWander Lemon and/or Green scents that DON'T smell like cleaning fluid?? (Part Huge review/part scent request)

This is going to be part scent Request, part scent Review of all the green/lemony scents I've tried so far....
I'm a bit of a green witch and I love having green undernotes to my perfumes. Generally, I've just been layering other scents over either For Strange Women's French Oakmoss or Pineward's Eldritch, but I would love to find some more standalone green scents. As well a some citrus scents!! I absolutely Love citrus, but scent-wise (the same with the Green scents) have been turning out smelling more like cleaning fluid or something I'd put on my dryer ball or a room spray, not necessarily use as a perfume. There are a few that have worked out, though, so I thought I'd share my reviews of those too!
_______________________________________________________________________ My rating system: 1/5 - I will never wear it and I actively don't like/hate this scent. 2/5 - It doesn't really smell like a perfume or I don't really like it 3/5 - meh, it's okay. It'll be an okay mixing agent, or someone else may like it, it's just not for me by itself 4/5 - I do like it, it's just got something small missing from making it perfect, ie: It dries down weird, or it fades fast 5/5 - I absolutely adore this scent. Any more and I want to swim in it lol
Here's what I've tried so far and how they smelled to me:
Alkemia
Moss Maiden ( Ferns, bark, lichen, crushed autumnal greens, and moss) - 2/5 - I May use this as a green layering note, but mainly I'd probably use it as a dryer ball scent or room spray. It does smell like a mossy cave...but if that mossy cave was SUPER clean lol. It's got this weird cleaning spray vibe in there
Green Witch ( oakmoss, Diviner's sage, lemon verbena, orchid, nightshade, winterhazel, rowen bark) - 2/5 - This one's got some lemon in with the green, but again, just screams 'This is laundry detergent!' to me when I smell it :/
Baccante (Blueberries, Oakmoss, wild ivy, lavender, tonka, and forest fungi) - 6/5 - I will be totally buying a full bottle of this. It's one of the first perfumes that could be a total standalone for me. It's like you're standing in a blueberry field, full of ripe fresh blueberries. I would legit rate it a 10/5 if it didn't disappear so fast on me. That may just be my skin, though.
Sucreabeille
Vodka & Swearing - (Sedona, sage, lemongrass, mojito, and juniper) 3/5 - Doesn't quite give off 'Cleaning fluid' but it does give off Very photorealistic 'Mojito'. I just sadly don't really get anything else. Just lemon mojito. Like, smelling it is akin to holding a lemon mojito up to your nose, quite literally. Not sure if I'd like to smell like that alone. If the green herbs were better in there, maybe I'd wear it...I may actually overlayer it with Green Witch and see how it does, after writing out these....
**OH MY GOODNESS OKAY I FOUND THE MIX lol...layer on For Strange Women's French Oakmoss under Alkemia's Green Witch, and top with Suc's Vodka & Swearing lol. No lie...It's a pretty great lemony Green witch scent, without being too 'Cleaner Fluid-y'. later, after the drydown, It does dry down a bit too perfumey/powdery, though, so later throughout the day, I layer on Baccante or Where the Wild things Grow (look down below), to bring in a fruity element to the mix. Unfortunately, my skin does suck those up, so I've gotta reapply like every 2 hours
haha love when that works out, though lol.... Hope that scent combo helps someone else **
Pineward
Boreal - 3/5 - (pine needles, mint, cedar, resins, moss. Frigid forest of the northern wilderness. Chilly mint gives way to a soft bed of creamy cedar, pine, and moss.)
If you like Mint, this one's for you. It is Straight Mint. The cedar pine and moss are almost non existent props to the Very strong Mint. Me personally, I was hoping for more of a Hint of mint overlaying a stronger scent of cedar and pine and moss, but the opposite was more true with this one. You do get a good underlayer of cedar on the drydown, but even in the drydown, you still get that wintery mint. It'll be a great mint additive to some of my stronger foresty scents, though! And I think, layered with Krampus it will be really nice winteyule scent. After the Drydown, you can really tell it's a softer minty version of Borealis lol. Like Boreal is the pale, shy dark woods winter witch, while Borealis is the wild and chaotic summer dark swamp witch sister
Borealis - was a 1/5, now a 3/5 - (Notes: snowdrifts, peppermint, camphor, black tea, black elder, valerian root, ocean spume, fir balsam, orris root, pine needles, incense, sandalwood, Irish ambergris, cedarmoss, patchouli, deer musk (botanic accord), ashes)
First Reaction: I REALLY did not like this one. It was a freebie given (which they were amazing to include so many freebies), but this one, to me has a very stringent vibe with an underlayer of almost urine smell( the musk, I think). I don't get very much of the pine, but it does have a black apothecary vibe to the smell. Like it's the smell of an old trappegatherer's cabin. A witch in the woods that you go to, to trade when you're desperate. If you like musk and dark foresty herbs and dirt, then this one is for you. It is STRONG on the musk, though
BUT, Okay, just fyi this is the poster child for letting a scent rest lol. I didn't much like it at first, but After a few months I tried it again and now it's going to be a great dark green witch undertone scent lol. I don't get much winter vibes, though lol. Just dark forest ones. Like it's a bit more Swamp witch then Eldritch (next down below), but it could be a sister to the "Bella Lestrange would wear me as perfume" vibe
Eldritch - 4/5 -
Notes: Leather, Myrrh, patchouli, fir, oolong tea, opoponax, smoke, pine needles, oakmoss.
Lair of ancient eldritch abominations, a resinous and dark perfume for the bold and unafraid. Fall 2023 Version: additional tea & moss
This was a Curiosity's sake purchase when I saw this on a list of 'If you want to smell like a witch' suggestions (very accurate just fyi). First on my skin I definitely get the sharp leather notes and I think the myrrh. It is definitely a challenging scent and more of a unisex or masculine scent, but me as a witchy woman, I love it as a green undertone. I think I'm totally getting the Opoponax (resin that smells like oak honey powder and leather), the smoke and the fir. First out of the gate I feel like it makes me smell like a dark and mysterious apothecary witch, with her shop at a dock in the middle of a dark swampy bayou. And I think I do really like the addition of tea and moss into the scent, otherwise, I think it'd be more of a straight, almost pirate-y, unisex/masc scent
First dry down it softens beautifully, so if you think it's too strong and overpowering at first, don't worry. It'll mellow
Long dry down, it does get a bit musty and stale herbally after a bit. But it is Just perfect if you want a remnant scent of 'I just walked through a witchy herbal shop in the Bayou' vibe
Just keep in mind, right out the bottle, it is a very challenging scent. Make sure to let it rest a bit, and then try it on your skin, too, before judging.
*note: if you're not an herbally/witchy woman, this may be more of a masculine scent pull. I could totally see giving this scent to a guy friend/family member, if you get it and it's not for you. For me personally, though, I love it as my witchy base layer under something super fruity (like SF&F's Lilac & Gooseberries), to give me the perfect fruity complex green witchy scent.
White Fir 5/5 - Notes of orange, ginger, white fir, clove, anise, pine, musk, vetiver, oakmoss
The PERFECT wintery citrus scent. The only more perfect addition would be to layer it with a patchouli or more of a 'dark forest' scent, to give it a bit more depth and less 'Winter Cleaning day' vibe
Clemenpine -2/5 - (Notes Clementine, Blood Orange, Maritime Pine, Night-Blooming Jasmine, Saffron Flower, Rough Suede, Passion Fruit, White Lotus, Fir Balsam, Tobacco Leaf, Cedar Planks, Leather, Sandalwood, Pacific Ambergris)
I really wish I had had the chance to let this one settle for a few months like the others (pineward really needs some settle time to fully bloom, just fyi), but sadly it got dropped onto my cement floor and shattered, so I only had my first impressions of it, which was that it smelled like PURE cleaning fluid. I'm talking orange Pine-sol :/ . Which really sucks, cause I love orange and citrusy scents and was very hopeful for this one. Eventually I may get another sample of it, to try again, but I was really disappointed in it.
Meadowmoss 2/5
Notes: Oakmoss, Alpine Sandwort, Wild grass, Green Wheat, Orange Blossom, Fir Balsam, Tomato Leaf, Azure Bluet, Mountain Wildflowers.
This one is one of those scents I wouldn't actually wear. BUT, one I may use on like my dryer balls or as a room spray on furniture in spring. It really is like you're standing out in an open field in the Swiss alps singing the Hills are Alive next to a wayward nun. If that's what you'd like to smell like? This one is for you! Not really for wearing on me, though. It smells like a dryer sheet.
Ivymoss 3/5
Notes: Climbing Ivy, Green Tea, Spearmint, Lime Rind, Lemon Verbena, Waterlily, Emerald Cypress, Mugo Pine, Cedarwood, Oakmoss, Treemoss, Cedarmoss.
This is one that DEFINITELY needs rest. At first it was purely going to be another dryer ball scent. But after Months of letting it rest (like legit half a year), I actually think I like the scent enough to maybe wear it! (at least as an undertone, if not as a standalone). It's a very Bright Green scent. Fresh, without smelling overtly like cleaning fluid or laundry detergent. But, it does give that hint. Like Irish Soap almost. It's truly like walking through a forest in very early spring, with the air still crisp, but new plants starting to grow....and you're wearing freshly laundered clothes lol
It's not one I would wear a Lot, I don't think....but maybe in early spring with a apple-y scent. Or maybe as an undertone layer with something like a sweet honeysuckle scent

Greymist 5/5
Notes: Noble Fir, Scotch Pine, Expressed Citron, Blond Tobacco, Botanical Musk, Vetiver.
Another one that Really needs to rest, before you try, cause I'm pretty sure it was on the list of scents I REALLY don't like, when I first scented these. But now months after, this one's gonna be one of my favorite winter scents, I think. It legit smells like Christmas time. The fir and pine Really stands out, and you get that little bit of tobacco in there too, almost like you're hugging Santa and he smokes a pipe lol. Quite honestly, it may actually be a standalone scent for me, for winter time
Acadian 3.5/5
Notes: Sweet Yuzu, Bergamot, Juniper Berry, Ivy, Eucalyptus, Waterlily, Goldenrod, Heliotrope, Seaweed, Cedar, Oakmoss
This scent reminds me of trips to the Lost sea or Rock city. Smelling the damp mossy forests and wet mountain stone. That smell of caves found along hikes in damp foggy weather. I can't really pick out any of the individual notes at all, which is sad, cause I do like a lot of those individual scents. But, it is a really nice combination into a unisex/masculine scent. All of Pineward, so far has leaned more to the Unisex/masc cologne side of things. But, this one I do like to pair with something like Lorelei from Fantome, which is a strawberry over seawater and seaweed scent
A little goes a Very long way. It's got a very long throw. I like pairing a DOT of it with one of my sweeter fruity or floral scents. If I use too much, it does dry down a bit powdery and strong and gives me a headache, which is why I put it at 3.5 instead of 4/5
Akero 4/5
Notes: green apple, benzoin, patchouli, sandalwood, cedar.
The first bit of a freshly picked green apple. When I smell this, it transports me to a green apple orchard, with the apples just getting ripe. It's definitely got a Green earthy undertone, but the bright apple evens it out a bunch. I really love this, even alone, or layered with a sweeter fruit scent, like Kinmousekai from fantome. I do wish the Cedasandalwood stood out a bit more, though. I may have to try putting a drop of this onto an actual cedar chip. See how it smells
Ollie & Max
Spring Witch 2/5 Notes: an enchanting blend of rosewater, jasmine and lily top notes, middle notes of clover and greenery, finishing with citrus and herbs
This one is another dryer ball scent for me, unfortunately. A really nice dryer scent, though! Perfect for springtime. I just more expect this scent with detergent, not a perfume
Sorcellerie Apothecary
Where the Wild Things Grow 3/5 1: the Sweet version.
Notes: Late spring strawberries still on the vine and vanilla cream soda slowly fade to strawberry blossoms, fresh green grass with morning dew, and ambrette seed.
I do like this, but not on its own. It's got a bit of a chemically tone in there (from the 'cream soda' I think). It does give fizzy strawberry drink, vibe, though. I like layering it over Fantome's Lorelei and FSW's French Oakmoss for a strawberry witch vibe
II: The fruity green version. Notes:
Late spring strawberries still on the vine and vanilla cream soda slowly fade to strawberry blossoms, fresh green grass with morning dew, and ambrette seed.
I do like this one, but it's a bit Too much artificial candy and green grass for me, if that makes sense. It reminds me of sucking on a strawberry candy as a kid, running around in the fresh cut grass. I do like it, I just have to layer it with Lorelei and other green/fruity notes, otherwise it gives me a headache
Fantome
Lorelei - 4/5
Notes: Tart wild strawberries, basil, black narcissus, entangling seaweed, watery graves
It starts off with a punch of fruity strawberry, but has bottom notes of salty seaweed and sweet basil. And I absolutely love it when basil finds its way into perfumes. I absolutely love that scent. I just wish there was More basil and other herbs, maybe
I do love this scent, but not on its own. I love it as a mid level mixing layer, though. Usually I'll layer it above something like Eldritch or Acadian or French Oakmoss (see all three above), and then top off with one or both of the Where the Wild Things Are scents (also look above), for a more full bodied Strawberry Witch vibe scent.
____________________________________________________________________________ TL;DR:
So, essentially, I've had some hits and some misses. I love Fruity scents and I want green witch/kitchen witch herbal vibes with my scents. I like gourmands. I sometimes like florals (just more on the fruity floral side, not the powdery floral side). I HATE with a passion powdery scents and scents that go cleanedetergent vibes.
Can ya'll help with some recommendations for any lemon or orange citrusy perfumes that don't go 'cleaner fluid or detergent' vibes? And/or any herbal or Green scents that I may like?
Please & Thank you!!

My collection + short reviews
My small collection. I am rotating through all of my fragrances, depending on the weather and mood. I also don't save any perfumes for special occasions as I fragrance is the ultimate comfort for me and I buy it to wear, not keep on the shelf to look at. Also even though my collection is not large it is more than enough of perfume. My skin is super dry and eating perfume so I am using quite a lot + spray on clothes.
I don't like to keep something if I don't like & use it, as it reminds me about stupid decisions and wasted money, so unsuccessful blind buys goes away as gifts or I sell them off.
I gravitate towards unisex fragrances, not a fan of florals, love sandalwood, aquatics when done right (they have to be a bit dirty, a touch of driftwood, algea, something thrown in to make it interesting), woody, and in the last few years I have also
Short reviews in no particular order with ratings for smell and overall (performance, smell and price all together). Apologies for mistakes, english is not my first language and i'm posting from phone.
Hermes Citron Noir Looove this, very realistic lemon and black tea with a little sweetness. Makes me think of autumn and cozying up. Best fragrance to layer with Grand Soir - still fancy and opulent, but better suited for casual days than grand soir on its own. The performance is rather poor, so even though I have almost finished the bottle I am not sure if I will replace it. I have not found better tea&lemon scent, if you have, let me know! Smell 8/10 Overall 6/10
MFK Grand Soir I ordered sample set from their website to try BR 540, and threw this in. Turned out to be my favorite, such a rich and addictive scent. Smells luxurious and cozy, ome of the best scents out here. I ordered travel set because I did not thought it will be possible to use that much of such a strong perfume, well, I have half of the last travel spray left, will def buy FB when I'll run out. Did not expect to love and wear this so much. I have never been into very sweet perfumes, but grand soir made me curious to explore more. Smell 10/10 Overall 10/10
Parle Moi Milky Musk Milky musky sandalwood and fig, smells dry. Perfect for casual days, office, rainy&foggy days. Sometimes it is very light, sometimes I can feel it on clothes days after spraying. Smell 8/10 Overall 7/10
Van Cleef & Arpels Santal Blanc Fresh fig&sandalwood, super creamy and elegant. If you smell pickles in Sandal fragrances then most likely you will smell it here as well, not ye case for me fortunately. I was wearing this exlusively for one summer few years ago, it is just so good in the heat. Once I had a petrol station cashier running after me to my car to ask what perfume I am wearing. Smell 9/10 Overall 9/10
Eccentric Molecules Molecule 01 I have ~3ml left from 100ml, good for office. Simple pencil shavings and wood. Few years ago I liked it better than I do now, as molecular perfumes and iso e super have become so popular and you can smell it everywhere. Still good though. Smell 7/10 Overall 7/10
BDK Gris Charnel Extrait This was a letdown - I receiced a sample when biught another fragrance right after it was released, and it blew my mind how good it was. It's expensive but I got it for my birthday, and it smells different than the sample. I still have the sample too, they are not the same. Sample is sweeter, smoother, richer, but from bottle it is too dry, more woods, something screetchy, smells unfinished. It was very recently released when I got that so no chamce it was reformulated. Go figure. This one I'd like to sell off but not much of a market where I am. Smell 10/10 from sample, 6/10 from the full bottle Overall 5/10 (full bottle)
Hermes Eau des Merveilles Bleue Fresh, aquatic, I can feel the sea, driftwood, something citrusy. Took it once with me on vacation (I am living in a country where summer is quite mild and short), and turned out it performs perfect in heat, so now it is my go-to vacation perfume. Smells of carefree holidays, sun and the sea. Very elegant as well, super clean smell. Smell 7/10 Overall 8/10
Filippo Sorcinelli Pioggia Forte Worst "cap" I've seen - a black wool ball that looks like a cat threw it up, so it took some inner work to talk myself into paying for something so ugly. The very bottle is nice though, heavy glass with ridges, I assume they represent raindrops (and dirty mothball cap is meant to be a cloud). Anyway, I really enjoy this one, smells similar to many "modern niche perfumes", but there is something unique and addictive there. My coworker commented that it reminds her of Thomas Kosmala no 4. I would not say they are that similar but I can see where she is comming from. Smell 8/10 Overall 8/10
Kerosane Unknown Pleasures Blind buy as it is not available in my country. Different than I expected - from description and reviews I was hoping for a scent similar to mixing Hermes Citron Noir (Citrus Tea) and MFK Grand Soir (amber and vanilla) but it is nothing like that, and I dont get any tea here. Smells like coconut cookies, but in a grownup and perfumy way. I have not tried this in warm weather yet as I bought it this winter, but looking forward to try it once the summer will come. Smell 7/10 Overall 7/10
Ormonde Jayne Tanger Succesful blind buy. Although I am not a fan of neroli (on myself), this one works. Sparkly sweet&citrussy neroli. This will never be my signature, but sometimes I crave something a bit different than my usual go-to's so this is for those times. Quite feminine. Smell 7/10 Overall 7/10
Armani Prive Bleu Turquoise This was an expensive blind buy (the tester was empty at the store) that fortunately paid off. Salty note reminds of Acqua di sale by Profumum Roma, but it has vanilla, incense, smokiness. Quite unique, perfect for summer evenings at a bar, restaurant etc. Laid back but fancy. Smell 8/10 Overall 8/10
MFK Extrait 540 I was holding off for a while, cause expensive, obvsly, and then it got popular here and the BR540 dna was literally everywhere, and it seemed even more silly yo spend so much on something that I can smell even buying groceries. But I went through few samples and each time I wore extrait it just felt right, like me. After I passed a drivers licence last summer (which felt like a huge accomplishment after a long process due to starting during covid resteictions, then graduating on top of full time work etc) I spoiled myself and finally got it. It is nowhere as powerful as I it seemed from samples, not sure why. And its not nose blindness, I have asked others. Anyway it is super nice, and I am using it in casual situations when I want to feel put together, as it is the vibe I am getting from it. Smells like a rich women shopping on their day off to me. My boyfriend LOVES this, works like catnip on him. Smell 10/10 Overall 8/10
Tom Ford Ombre Leather Deep, leathery vanilla, very good. Ironically I fell it performs and smells best in warm weather (this one I am spraying lighty to not owerpower anyone myself included). Great performance Smell 9/10 Overall 9/10
Starck Peau d'Ailleurs Tried this few years ago, did not buy it as it was hard to see myself wearing this often enough, but there was something comforting and familiar in the drydown. It has been discontinued so I bought it few weeks ago while I can just to have it. It is sweet and fresh at the same time, I can feel beetroots/carrots, musk, soil. Smells dirty and clean at the same time, like freshly washed linens hanged out to dry in the middle of garden in July, the sun is shining bright and the life is simple and beautiful. Reminds me of childhood in countryside, nostalgic and comforting. Very wearable though, and even my boyfriend admitted it is quite good. I think I will be weating this a lot in summer. Smell 9/10 Overall 9/10
Montale Vanilla Extasy I bought it kind of by mistake, as I was trying some random fragrances in the shop for fun (Montale is def not my favorite house) and there was one paper strip in my pocket that smelled soo good when I took it out in the evening, like simple cozy peachy vanilla. Not my usual style, but it was so pleasant, reminded me of teenage years. I looked up montale vanilla perfumes on fragrantica, found that this has peach and vanilla, and ordered it (being as impatient as I am). I still dont know what was that smell I had on the paper strip, but this is not it, most likely it was a mix of various fragrances. Either way, quite pleasant spicy vanilla, not the best out there, but ok for the price. Smell 7/10 Overall 7/10
Montale Dark Vanilla This one I found when went back to the store to find un the peach and vanilla montale from my memory. This is also not it, but I liked it. Similar to Tom Ford Ombre Leather with added oud. Smells a bit generic, like air in niche fragrance shop/airport lounge, but I like it for what it is. Drydown is where its at. Definately will try to amp the vanilla by layering. Smell 7/10 Overall 7/10
Zara Amber Fusion Sometimes I wander into Zara based on many many suggestions and praises of Zara fragrances on the web, but this is the only one I have found that I like. Does anyone know what perfume this is the dupe of? Perfect for the office. The vibe is similar to molecular niche offerings, smells much more expensive than it is. Amazing value for the price. Smell 9/10 Overall 9/10
Commodity Milk Initially I ordered sample kit, and although I liked Milk I did not see myself wearing it often enough to justify full bottle, so I got travel spray. I used it up, got another, and I think soon I'll get a FB. Love this, sweet, but woody, reminds me of marshmellows over fire, milk caramel. At the same time smells very grownup. I am not always in the mood for this, but when I am it hits the right spot. Scent 10/10 Overall 10/10
Commodity Moss travel spray I liked it from the sample kit, good for rainy summer days, running errands, very casual. Not a FB for me, this travel spray is more than enough as I am rarely in the mood for it, even though it is good. Smell 7/10 Overall 7/10
Profumum Roma Acqua Viva travel spray Hands down the best lemon there is. Super strong and longlasting, unreal for the lemon scent. Only for warm weather and summer, this is my second travel spray. Originallu bought it for my boyfriend as I love to smell it on him, but we are sharing. Not sure about full bottle as this is very season and weather specific, so not sure if I can justify paying such a high price if I don't believe we need 100ml. If I would live in a warmer climate I'd buy FB in a heartbeat. Scent 10/10 Overall 10/10
Nemat Amber and Vanilla Musk I'll put them together as they are really similar. My boyfriend was going on a business trip to US and I asked him to bring me these, as I have not found where to buy them on Europe. Very nice, low key musky scents. Vanilla Musk smells basically the same as amber but with added vanilla. Smell 8/10 Overall 8/10
Ghost Deep night Blind bought this recently due to having too much time on my hands and some anxiety about health issues, so I was trying to take my mind off by researcing perfumes (bad habit, I know). This is discontinued and I found a good deal. Smells like wc cleaning products, but even then not sure I'd want my bathroom to smell like this.. drydown is a bit better, but still offputting. Will not rush with giving it away yet, because I have blocked nose, and I'm hoping I just cannot smell it fully, but strongly thinking about it. Most likely will return to it after a while and reevaluate. Smell 2/10 Overall 3/10
Not in the picture - I have demoted JHAG Anyway to bathroom spray (and sometimes mirror cleaner) cause I like the smell but it disappears within 5 min after spraying. Smell 7/10 Overall 3/10
A lot of samples and small decants in the basket. Some perfumes I love but want to wear so rarely that few ml are enough.
