Is Darcsport good ?

Feel free to add your opinions.

Overall the brand is.....ok. I think this very brand is very 2 sided in terms of love and hate. Their designs are pretty cool if you look at it from a design point (i study design and marketing). However, the branding in my opinion is a kinda cringe. It's very edgy and it seems like the people promoting it have a sob story to tell and they use Darcsport as the reason of their "salvation". Then again, that's their whole brand identity, they are succesful in creating a brand identity that is easy to understand and is attractive enough to gain a really large audience for their target market. So if you're in to that then ig this brand is for you. Here is a pros and cons list for the quality of their products.
Pros:
Designs are pretty solid, it looks pretty cool. They have a lot variety in designs.
Customer service is really good and the people operating seem chill. They answer your questions and concerns in like 1 or 2 hours of you emailing if you need help during the day. If you email at night, they will help you the next day.
Material is 100% cotton. doesn't feel cheap and feels light and comfortable. Not too heavy which is nice but could get hot when you wear it in the summer. '
They have a lot variety in designs.
Cons:
They have a really limited stock and everything sells out in like 5 mins after launch.
The shirts are really fcking big so if you don't want to look like a homeless dude, just buy an oversized at the size you usually wear or even size down if you don't want to look like you are wearing your bed sheets. (the people that promote this brand are pretty fcking big and jacked, even the women are hella big and jacked so don't worry about the clothes being too small)
It's expensive and pricing is kinda ridiculous for a gym brand. Each shirt is like $81 cad including shipping and tax. The whole point of gym brands like gymshark and youngla was to create good quality clothing at a more affordable price to compete with nike under armor and adidas. Now the pricing for any gym brand has gone up at a really overpriced mark.
Conclusion:
Is it worth to buy a shirt from here ? My answer is no, and that's only because of the pricing and limited stock. Am In happy with my purchase, yes. I think it's only worth it if you buy a darcsport collaboration shirt, like a darcsport x naruto or darcsport x mortal kombat.

2024.05.16 23:02 Violet-Flowersss Maxi-Challenge 6: Results

Maxi-Challenge 6: Results
Welcome back queens from our first ball! You had a tall order this challenge, and several of you did very well. Let’s not delay the results any longer!
Tracy Martel, you are safe
Absynthe, Mistress Anna Conda, Liz Onya, Raven Starfire, B*tch, and Miz Erie, you all represent the tops and bottoms of this challenge. Now, on to the critiques.
Absynthe: Absynthe, I love simple looks when they’re done right, and each and every one of your looks did simplicity right. I especially appreciate that you weaved a theme through all three looks. For your first look, I love that you went with a more recent trend. I can totally see Kim K wearing this in an “unexpected” paparazzi pic. At first, I was skeptical of the skirt, because tighter skirts or pants were more the style, but I actually appreciate that you didn’t directly copy a Kim K look. My only real critique is the shoes. I think the black laces, especially on clear shoes, takes away from the simplicity in the rest of the look and brings down the athleisurewear vibe. I would have preferred a sneaker or basic heel. I also kind of wish you had used a different lip, not only to break up a set, but also because big ass lips were more on trend for this style. Still, I really like this look as a whole. Now, your second look, I really really love. I instantly got this was a 60s look, yet it feels fresh to me. The dress is the perfect silhouette, and the squares you created are so crisp. The largest black square has a little blotch of gray that I immediately noticed, and I wish you had fixed it. But, that’s really the only thing here I can critique. I think my favorite part of this look is the mug, these eyes are just so right for a 60s look. Every choice your made with this second look is great. The third look is really the best in terms of simplicity done right. There’s not much going on, but all the details are so good and beautiful. I love the little belt below the waist, it helps convey the Greek/Roman feel you were going for. With the rest of the editing, there’s some small (small) issues. On the right side of the dress, there’s a gliterry piece sticking out that I think came from merging pieces together. I also feel like the shawl is oversaturated for this look. In a different look, it would be fine, but with the softness of the dress and overall feel of the look, that bright bright red doesn’t quite fit. Don’t think I didn’t notice that all the metals match this time though - I did and I appreciate it. Putting the small editing issues aside, this look is very beautiful and regal. In fact, all three looks are really great and beautiful. Great work Absynthe!
Mistress Anna Conda: Mistress, all three of your looks have a great concept, but fall short in terms of execution. For the first one, before you added a description, I really had no idea what decade or century you were going for. With the description, I kind of see the 2010s, but that should have been conveyed clearer. The wig is the main aspect thats makes this look feel older than the 2010s. And, I don’t love that you lightened it. The original color would have matched the pants, and if you didn’t want them to match, the wig should be a color thats more different than the pants. I appreciate that you recolored the necklaces to match the earrings, but I wish you had done the opposite, because the gold necklaces blend into the top, making it look even messier. The pants totally give 2010s, and the color is really nice. However, they don’t look like jeans, they look like leggings. Adding stitching or denim patterning would’ve made them look more like jeans. Its a nice look, I like the attitude and idea, but the small details are off and it missed the main goal of the challenge. Of your three looks, I think this second look is my least favorite. For one thing, this jumpsuit for a disco look is about the most expected choice ever. The recoloring is really nice, the teal and orange combo is really pretty. But, the balance is off. There is a lottt of teal and not a lot of orange. What’s really brining this look down, though, is the wig. To be frank, it looks like a dead bush with some green spores. If there was a reference, I wish you had provided it because I couldn’t find it online. I see the idea you had, and it could’ve been cute, but the colors really need to be changed. As a whole, I think this look is suffering from a lack of creativity and needs to be amped up. The third look is the best out of the three. Its very cute, and clearly reads as 1890s. She looks like a mix of little bo peep and mary poppins. The combination of pieces is really smooth, and the top and bottom come together to make a nice, cohesive dress. The only editing issue you have is on the top. Where the pink and blue meet, theres a rough, shaky black line. I think you were trying to make them look layers, but it just looks odd, and because of the fold that stretches across the shirt, that prevents the two different colors from looking like layers. Not to beat a dead horse, but another issue with the top is the stark difference in fabrics. The skirt is a very soft, almost matte material while the top is shiny and plasticy. They don’t look like they’d be a part of the same dress, ruining the illusion. The wig, hat, and gloves were a nice touch though and help elevate the look a bit. This look is mostly accurate for the 1980s, but what’s not right for the time period is the waist. The dress you’ve created is very unflattering, in that it completely eliminates your waist. Corsets were still popular in the 1890s, so at the very least, there should be a semblance of an hourglass figure. All three looks are nice, but not particularly stunning, mainly because of the details.
Liz Onya: Liz, each and every one of your looks is so great, and I can clearly tell you put a lot of thought and effort into every one. This first look of yours is so beautiful. I actually had to look up Akaska because I’ve never seen the movie, and all the references are so right. I especially like the headpiece, its very accurate to hers. My favorite part of this look is the smoke at the bottom, it really helps sell the mysterious vampire mystery. However… this is not a 2000s look. It kind of feels like a cope out. While the movie was made in the 2000s, the vampire your imitating is ancient Egyptian, and therefore dressed in a way thats meant to imitate ancient fashion. While others did imitate movie characters, their movie characters were from the 2000s canonically and therefore dressed in 2000s fashion. Vampires definitely were a big part of the 2000s, but if you had done Twilight instead, that would’ve fit the 2000s better because the fashion in that movie was from the 2000s. There’s no issues with your look, its gorgeous, but it does not fit the challenge prompt. Your second look is my favorite of the three, and dare I say, my favorite out of all the 1900s look. I could immediately tell this was from the 1980s, and I think you did the 80s in such a fun, new way. I love art, and I love when its incorporated into to fasion. The recoloring on the dress is just amazing. I love how it looks like its literally made of painted paper, and the shakiness of the lines works really well here because its accurate to the reference you provided. Even though it is very accurate to the reference, you still managed to make it your own by combining two references and through the wig and makeup choices. The body paint is fantastic, and even the white line on the wig looks like paint, a detail I love. The wig helps reinforce that this is an 80s look, and its blocky shape works perfectly with all the shapes throughout the dress. I don’t have a single negative thing to say about this look, incredible work. With your third look, I love love love that you went with a more obscure reference, and gave us a little history lesson. The editing really turns this into a stunning look. It easily could have been too basic if you left the dress as it is in the game, but that pool of blood at the bottom really amps up the horror here. The way you intertwined your fingers into the victims hair is so great and such an important detail. With the head, I do wish that the victims skin tone was different because at first glance it looks like your holding your own head. Using a different body type helped create a difference, but a different skin tone would have really hit it home. As for the victims body, I was really confused on what it was until I zoomed in on my laptop. All the dark blood all over the body makes it blend into the pool of blood, so its not clear that its a body. Less blood or a lighter outfit would have made it clearer. You do get extra credit for creating two 1800s looks, though. As for your head, the blood splatter on the face was such a great detail to add in there, I really love it. I would have liked a different mug, though. She looks almost surprised or sad - like shes not the one who just murdered a woman. A fiercer, meaner mug would’ve been better. The hair is great, it looks like the 1890s, but unkept and messy, adding the story. Overall, this look is so hauntingly beautiful, and tells such a great visual story. You just keep wowing me every challenge, Liz!
Raven Starfire: Raven, out of the three looks, I feel like you put the most thought and attention into the 1800s look, and let the others fall to the wayside. For your 2000s look… I’m really not loving it. You resubmitted it (which is fine) and I wish you hadn’t because I think the first submission was better. The blonde hair does not look good, the color is all wrong, and because it is so long, it completely ruins the rest of the look. The dark brown hair was a lot more complimentary and I felt it was a nice way for you to put your own spin on a Mean Girls look. The mismatched pinks really bother me, the jacket and the skirt aren’t the same shade and you could’ve easily fixed that. I’m not loving the top skirt combo otherwise either, the jacket is athleisurewear while the skirt is preppy. I think there was a lot more you could’ve done to make this look more cohesive and more unique; as-is, it reads as a knock-off mean girl. For the second look, I actually asked my mom if this look was accurate for the 80s (because she grew up then) and she confirmed that this is accurate for a boss bitch from the 80s. The makeup is great, she confirmed there were a lot of pastels in the 80s, and I like the expression the eye and lip combo makes. While all the pieces in the outfit are time-period accurate, I don’t love the look as a whole. Starting with the wig, I, for one, am not a fan of this wig already, but I think there were ways you could have improved it. But since you mentioned the big hair of the 80s, I really wish you had gone with a different wig entirely that was even bigger. I’ve seen my mom’s high school photos, and her hair takes up about 70% of the frame, so I would've loved to have seen you go really big. The same thing goes for the shoulder pads, I barely even noticed this top had them, which I wouldn’t care about if you hadn't mentioned big shoulder pads. The pattern on the top totally gives 80s, but I wish you had used a lower level of it, one that didn’t have the weird harness on it. If you wanted to keep the harness, I think it would've been nicer if it matched the skirt so the skirt color was tied into the shirt somehow. That also would’ve made the harness feel more like an intentional choice. I appreciate that you matched the shoes so exactly to the skirt, buttt I think white would’ve stood out more and tied into the gloves. This look is very accurate for the 80s, but I’m just not in love with it. Now, your 1800s look, I totally am in love with. It totally feels like its from the 1800s while still being unique and creative. The layering on the skirt is absolutely beautiful, I especially really appreciate the lace edges, it helps bring all the layers together into a cohesive look. The ruffles, the gloves, the pleats, its all so beautiful. Something was bothering me about the skirt, and it took me a little while to figure out what, but I realized the waist is not angled correctly. The figures of the queens in the game are angled to the right, so waistlines should be angled that same way. The waistline you created is angled head-on, and since the rest of the queen’s body and dress is not, it looks off. If that detail was fixed, this dress would be perfect. As for the mug, I love these eyes for this look. I’m not in love with the lips, though - the bright coral color doesn’t match the rest of the burnt tones in this look. I think a softer pink or orange lip would’ve worked better. But, these small issues don’t distract from the overall look too much, making for a stunning and beautiful look overall. If the other two looks were as great as the third look, you would be in the top, but the third look isnt enough to save you from the bottom on its own.
Btch: Btch, throughout all your looks, I can tell you really focused on refinement and cohesiveness. The first look is fine. It is not particularly inventive or creative, but it is cohesive. Even the small details go together. I especially appreciate how the zippers on the skirt match the jacket zippers, as do the silver hair accessories. The skirt color perfectly matches the fur on the jacket, which is great. Originally, my biggest issue was that you used the “Legally Drag” top to do an Elle Woods look, but then you deleted that reference pic. In doing so, you also deleted the decade you were referencing, which was in the challenge prompt. I still know you were going for the early 2000s, because I can’t erase my memory and you originally said so, but without the reference, it doesn’t totally give early 2000s. Elle Woods was over the top with how much pink she wore, that’s why she stood out - its not like that was an early 2000s trend. I don’t feel like this outfit is particularly inventive, even without the reference pic. I am grateful, though, that you took my note about using sets and didn’t use the matching hair or skirt for this top. The hair was a nice way to put your own spin on this style, and it gives early 2000s, I just wish you had incorporated your own twist into this look more. I also think the skirt you resubmitted with works a lot better for this look than the original skirt you had. Overall, the look is cohesive and solid, but not particularly creative or unique. This second look of yours is super cute, and I’m glad you took the time to recolor and resubmit it. Changing the green for the red helped simplify and refine the look- its a small change with a big effect. I am a little tired of seeing this top used for 90s looks, but the recoloring and pants help make it feel fresher. The hair is super cute for this look, but its reminds me more of Black Panthers from the 60s/70s than the 90s. It just makes me really want a Black Panter look, and sad that you didn’t give that to me. A beanie or bucket hat would’ve fit the 90s more. The shoes are cute, but they don’t really mesh with the rest of the outfit because there’s not cheetah print anywhere else. I like the little ankle bracelets, and the red cheetah print is cute, but a solid color shoe would’ve worked better. They also could’ve worked if cheetah print was incorporated somewhere else in the outfit. Its a very cute, fun look, but a tad basic. On the flip side, this third look of yours is super fun and unexpected! I adore that you went for a masculine look. I’m not always crazy about masc looks in this game, but when it’s done right, they’re so good. And this is done soooo right. Those rich brown tones look so good, and that mug is so sexy. With your editing, the hat got a little fuzzy. The ribbon around the hat could be clearer; it kind of blends into the hat. Similarly, while I appreciate that you went back to change the colors of the bows on the shoes, since they are so dark now, they just look like a blur from afar. Additionally, I really wish you had edited the hat onto a more masculine wig. The beautiful hair and sparkling earrings ruin the hot man fantasy I desperately want. I know I’ve been harsh on your editing before, and I hope that’s not why you chose not to fully edit this look. I really wouldn’t care that you didn’t fully edit if the hair didn’t pull me out of the fantasy so much. The rest of the outfit is really great and beautiful, the shining light against the dark outfit is just stunning. This look very much feels like the 1800s, but I can’t judge its accuracy to a decade because you didn’t specify a decade, which was in the challenge prompt. The inspo pic you provided shows looks from a lot of different years, and they vary, so I would’ve liked to know which decade you were trying to emulate. Otherwise, I really enjoy this look, it’s a nice twist that I didn’t expect from you!
Miz Erie: Miz, you had some great ideas for this challenge, but the execution of each look fell a little short. Your first look is cute. A bit basic, but cute. The hair i really like, I could very much see someone in an early 2000s movie with this hair. Lots of denim was definitely a trend in the early 2000s, and I’m glad you brought that. What was not a trend in the early 2000s was big top little bottoms. That’s a more recent trend. Even putting that aside, I still don’t love the tiny skirt with the giant jacket. I really want some baggy pants to balance the look more. The recoloring on the skirt is really nice, it matches the jacket without blending in. I also like the recoloring of the shoes, they feel very early 2000s and pull in the pink from the top and thong. The mug is really nice too, these lips are perfect for this look are totally give early 2000s frosted lips. I am assuming you went for an early 2000s look though because you did not specify that, which was in the challenge prompt. For your second look, I’m very happy that you specified that this was showgirl look and not a flapper look, and provided some reference pics. The top, bottom and shoes look good together and definitely give 1920s showgirl. I get what you were trying to do with the headpiece when looking at your reference photos, but I don’t feel like it works. It doesn’t look fun or sparkly like the one in the photo do, and the harsh spikes bring down the playfulness in the rest the outfit. The Eyevie or So Raven wig would have matched the reference pics more and fit the rest of the outfit better. Part of my dislike for the headpiece may be because of the mug. She’s supposed to be a showgirl, but she looks so depressed, its making me sad. I just don’t understand why you went for such a sad face. For the rest of the outfit, while the top and bottom match colors and look good together in that regard, the nakedness of the top against the bottom doesn’t fully work for me. The skirt is a little slutty with the leg sticking out, but its waist is solid. She either needs to be wearing less clothes or more clothes. The shoes work really well, they’re subtle but the gold details are a nice touch. The idea is nice, but these issues bring the whole look down. Your third look is the best, but theres still some issues with it. I love the idea behind your 1850s look, and parts of it are really beautiful, but the execution fell short in a few ways. The combination of the top and dress is really nice, they come together to make a cohesive dress perfectly. There’s a slight editing issue with the wig though. On the left shoulder, one strand of hair is all choppy. The hanging bow ribbons are also choppy around the edges. I like that you changed the earrings on this wig, but they’re not actually connected to the ears. They’re just floating in the wig. The recoloring and editing on the dress is perfect, but I have a few other issues with it. The darkness in the middle looks unflattering, especially when the bust has that same pattern, but lighter. The gradient on the skirt should have been reversed. While the pattern is very pretty, its a lot to have it all over. If the bust was solid, it would make the dress less busy, and make the patterning stand out more. The pattern on the bows especially doesn’t help with the busyness; the pattern is too small on them to really be effective so they just look blurry and weird. Another issue I have with this look is that the wig doesn’t work for this dress. I know the top and wig are part of a set (which I don’t love that you used them together), but the simplicity of the wig and the fact that its hanging down doesn’t work with the fullness of the dress. An updo would’ve worked better, and been more accurate for the time period. The idea was really great, and the execution was almost there, but these issues make the look feel unfinished, and the same goes for the other two looks as well.
Absynthe, your simple looks really wowed me. You are safe. You used the Golden Fig on yourself, but since you are high/safe, it has no effect.
Liz, challenge after challenge, you just keep amazing me. Condragulations, you are the winner of this challenge!
B*tch, you are safe.
Raven, your 1800s look was stunning, but the other two were not. I’m sorry my love but you are up for elimination.
Miz Erie, your ideas were great, but your execution was not. You… are safe.
That means, Mistress Anna Conda, I’m sorry my love but you are up for elimination. Now, it is time for you and Raven to looksync for your life!

2024.05.16 22:41 mondaisey Is he nice or just German?

Am I being played by this German man?
I (26F American) recently met this German man (28) and I need to know if I’m being played or if he’s nice. I don’t know German dating culture, so I’m hoping I’m not falling for a flirty man that doesn’t actually like me.
I met him about a month ago while we’re both traveling South America and we’ve been on many dates. But he says things that are a little too sweet, which is why I’m suspicious.
  1. He got my number because we were in the same WhatsApp group. When saving my contact, he asked which color heart he should put by my name.
  2. We went to a restaurant where they give crayons to draw on the paper that covers the table. He said “let’s write our names….do you know how to draw a heart?”
  3. He’s been talking about making plans to meet up in the future. Each time I tell him my travel plans, he says, “I could meet you there [Asia, Germany, the US].” I have plans to see him this summer after him telling me to visit like 10 times.
  4. He invited me to take a weekend trip with him. I didn’t think he was serious and I didn’t think it would happen. But he was like “let’s book the tickets now” and then we did, it was lovely. Easy to travel with.
  5. He always asks if I like certain things about him or his clothes. Asking if I like his beard, his eyes, the color of a shirt he’s wearing, his legs lol, etc. He showed me a bunch of tattoo designs and he’s getting the one I said I like.
All of this and he doesn’t say that he likes me and the only compliment I’ve received is that I’m smart and he likes the way I tell stories. Additionally, he takes hours to text back. He never makes the first move either; I had to kiss him and I had to hold his hand (Okay not fully true, I THINK he tried to kiss me the first date but I pulled away. He didn’t try anything after that).
We all know these traveling romances don’t normally form a relationship. I’ve been taking it slow because I thought I would never see him again. I’m a relationship girl and I don’t want to start something that he’s not serious about. I was dumped by my ex last year so now I’m extra cautious. I’m not dating someone unless I think I could potentially marry them or spend significant time together.
Is this flirting just casual German dating culture or does he like me?

[2 YOE] Seeking Resume Critique and Career Advice for SWE Roles, Backend/Full Stack
Hi everyone,
I have about 2-3 years of experience in software engineering, but only one year in an industry role at major tech company. My other experience includes a AI newsletter startup with my brother and friends (more of a proof of concept, not fully deployed on a web server, just locally) and my current remote role as an AI training specialist.
Despite this, I feel more like a junior to mid-level engineer. I’m looking for general software engineering roles, preferably backend or full stack, in a hybrid setting in a city I like or fully remote. Recently, I’ve been getting a lot of interest from recruiters for lead or senior AI engineer positions, which I’m not targeting.
I’m comfortable with Python, JavaScript, React, and other web development libraries/frameworks. My full-stack experience, including APIs, databases, and software design, comes mainly from personal projects and the startup.
I need to refine my resume while prepping for behavioral and technical interviews, including LeetCode and system design. I also have experience as a system administrator and freelance web designer (mostly using WordPress/website builders), but I’m unsure if these are relevant to the roles I’m applying for.
Any advice or critique on my resume and career path would be greatly appreciated!
P.S: I've read the wiki and made changes accordingly like my typos and formatting. :)

2024.05.16 22:19 CauliflowerFeeling53 Need Grad School Advice

I go to the university of Pittsburgh. They offer a program where I could get my Masters in 1 year instead of 2 by starting grad classes senior year. I am about to be start senior year this upcoming semester (fall 2024) and am in the program.
Should I do this or apply to a program that might be a little better? Looking at people who work for companies I want to work for on LinkedIn they all went to Berkeley, Stanford, Illinois Urbana Champaign, Penn State, etc.
I want to ultimately work for a design firm like Magnusson Klemencic, Severud, Lera, etc.
Is it worth the time/money for me to go to these other schools if I apply and am accepted?
Any and all advice welcome. Thank you.

2024.05.16 21:58 99project_cars I feel trapped

So after 6 months of being unemployed and depleting my savings, I got a job!
I was excited, it was less than I was making previously but still enough to cover bills and a teeny bit left for actually living life and recreation.
However I am growing to hate this job. The disorganization is rampant. I work in design, and majority of the job is updating old files and altering existing ones.
However nobody seems to be aware of where I can locate these files, which including senior management. Majority of my time is spent hunting down files and maybe 20 minutes of my day is actual work.
Yet they are extremely anal about the organization of their PMS. The irony is unbearable. The only employee who is able to provide meaningful resources or files is someone who has only been here 4 weeks longer than me.
I want to quit, like the two designers who did before I onboarded, but I’m so desperate I feel like I’m trapped between impossible tasks and literal hunger as weeks before my offer I was unable to afford groceries.
I’m exasperated and I want to give up.

2024.05.16 21:55 hoggersbridge Engines of Arachnea: The Bug World (Chapter 19: Sole Survivor)

Link for all the chapters available here: Engines of Arachnea on Royal Road
The Colonel’s tent was leaking again. Ordinarily such a mistake would’ve earned his adjutant an hour-long dressing down and possibly, if the Colonel was feeling particularly enthusiastic, a sharp backhanded slap across the face. After all, a leaky tent could hardly be said to be hermetically sealed, now could it? But this affront to his sensibilities paled in comparison to the utter travesty and exemplar of sheer incompetence that now sat before his desk, a sagging wreck of a man in the tattered uniform of a Fleet officer. Colonel Moch Leelan curled his lip at it and barked:
“Once more, if you please. And I don’t want this on record,” he added, darting a look at the clerk poised to take dictation in the corner of the room, “Not a word of this gets out. There’s been enough of a snafu already, and the brass won’t stop shitting down my neck about Mound 13 and the loss of Prota’s pestilential pet project. Did you hear me, man? I said start from the beginning!”
Outside the monsoon was intensifying into one of those proverbial downpours which prompted doddering old men to remark that it was ‘raining cats and dogs’, though what either a cat or a dog were, none could now say. A trickle of it seeped in like a string of winking glass beads, catching the orange glow of the gas lamp and turning into sparks of amber, into seeds of flame. They dripped on the bald man seated on the low footstool, and he raised his head to meet the scornful gaze of the Colonel, grey eyes unabashed and unafraid. He spoke then, in a hoarse voice that matched his pallid flesh and buzzard nose:
“It was the third day of reconnaissance. We were forced to abandon our pack-beasts in the mire. My assistant and I—”
“Name, rank and serial number!” Colonel Leelan interrupted, for the sole purpose of seeing the coward blink and quaver like the worm he was. But in that he was to be disappointed, for the man continued in the same flat tone:
“Sollem Deschane, Lord Navigator, 3rd Pathfinder Regiment, serial number 18911944. We received orders from the Admiralty and Fleet Command to reconnoiter the area around the enemy concentration designated as Mound Euler. I was to lead a platoon of twenty handpicked volunteers across the river Foss at its lowest point, then scale the outlying cliffs to get better readings as we mapped out the approaches to Mound Euler. It was the third day of reconnaissance. We were forced to abandon our myropods in the mud and carry our own gear. My assistant navigator Rene Louvoture and I noticed a discrepancy with our visually confirmed data and the aerial sketches of the Aeronautical Division. We quickly worked out that the enemy concentration far exceeded initial estimates by an order of magnitude. Mound Euler is an omega-class colony the likes of which the Fleet has faced only once in its entire existence, during the Scouring of Assail. It is my belief that—”
“Leave your hysterics for later and get on to meat of things,” Leelan snapped. Deschane straightened a bit in his seat and scowled as his layers of bandages shifted. The man was practically mummified by the sheer extent of his wounds that it was a wonder he had managed to limp into the tent in the first place. But the navigator had made a point of refusing to be debriefed in his sick bed and had insisted that he be given no further pain killers. This was to prove that his report was not at all influenced by the effects of opiates, as well as to underline the supposed importance of his eyewitness account as the sole survivor of the siege of Mound 13.
But Colonel Leelan was no fool. He knew the tactic for what it was: a bit of playacting by a soon-to-be-disgraced officer, a desperate attempt to pass himself off as a tragic hero rather than the author of the most monumental military cock-up of the decade.
You may very well get that wish, Deschane, Leelan smirked inwardly. If you play your cards right. You’ll find that I can put on a pantomime as well as the next man.
Deschane regarded him cooly, replying:
“You asked for my report, sir. I am stating the facts as I understand them.”
“Understand?” Leelan guffawed, “There’s precious little to understand about this debacle! Explain to me how a routine scouting mission winds up in the loss of 5,000 men, a Rear-Admiral and an entire frontline outpost! Explain to me how you not only got every last one of your own men slaughtered, but still managed to save your own sorry arse!”
Now that had an effect on the navigator’s bearing. He dropped the holier-than-thou attitude and even pretended to dab at some moisture in corners of his eye. For a moment his mask of iron cracked and he looked tired enough to sleep for a thousand years, never to waken. Then he seemed to recall that his career was at stake and had the temerity to argue with the Colonel:
“We were given faulty intelligence. I made mistakes, I’ll admit that here and now. We should never have continued after our pack animals were trapped in the mire. The gear slowed us down in enemy territory. I can’t wash my hands of the loss of my platoon. They were the best and bravest men I ever fought with, and I will carry the shame of losing them to my grave. The fact that I am still alive when none of them are breathing is an accident that was not of my choosing. As for Mound 13, it was only a matter of time before they were discovered and dealt with. They were only two day’s travel from Mound Euler. In fact, it was miracle they managed to exist for so long undetected.”
Magnificent deflection. Colonel Leelan had to admire the snake and his flawless attempt to pass the blame onto the shoulders of the dead Rear-Admiral Prota.
Yes, I think we can make an arrangement here, the Colonel thought wryly. He waved Deschane’s prattling aside and said:
“This omega-class colony of yours. A mound so large that is beggars belief, you say? Curious, then, that such an object should have escaped your keen senses for three whole days!”
“Visibility in that terrain and climate is poor. But yes, it was another one of my errors.”
“I’m so glad that you agree,” Leelan purred, his words dripping with condescension. He reached into the drawer of his desk and took out a bottle of fermented honeydew. Uncorking it with a loud pop, he poured out two glasses and lifted one to his lips, saying:
“On a related note, it’s funny how the fog of war can obscure so many important details. Even the best commanders can lose their bearings, lose sight of the greater picture, fixate on the wrong things. Take our dearly departed Rear-Admiral Prota, for example (may she rest in the Flight Eternal). Not to speak ill of the dead, but she was assigned an entire sector for her research into enemy behavior. And what does she do with it? Cultural studies! Anthropology! As if the Amits have a culture worth sneezing at! They’ve been working with flint and wood since this primeval war of ours began, and they’ve never taken the hint. Meanwhile, we’ve finally gained the advantage of powder and artillery and mass-produceable gas masks.”
“One big push! That’s all it would take to clear the northern highlands. We have the men, the will and the technology to do it! The last thing we need is some starry-eyed academic telling us that the Amits have somehow found religion. I mean, really!” Colonel Leelan warmed to his subject, “Five thousand soldiers dedicated to safeguarding some blessed cave paintings, right on the frontlines, too! What a waste. Like you said: if you hadn’t led the Amits directly to them, someone else would have down the line.”
“We took steps to ensure they wouldn’t follow us. We tried, but they found the fear-death pheromones—”
“Steps?” Leelan pressed him mercilessly, “What steps, exactly?”
Deschane looked away and said nothing. Leelan sniffed, continuing:
“I thought so. As I was saying, Prota’s project was doomed from the start. It was an ill-conceived, harebrained mission, and now the Admiralty will have to explain to Fleet Command and the general public how it lost an entire regiment in the name of some woman’s flight of fancy. But there is a silver lining to all this. Seeing as how we recaptured what was left of Mound 13 within mere hours of it falling, we think there’s a way to salvage the situation after all. You can be part of that, Deschane. Every victory may have its price, but it must also have its heroes.”
Leelan sipped his honeydew, waiting for the offer he’d made to sink in. Deschane smiled, a humorless crack in his granite features.
“You’re going to make me a hero?” he asked. Leelan nudged the other glass towards him, shrugging:
“And why not? Someone has to wear the medals. ‘Lone Survivor of Desperate Last Stand’,” Leelan exclaimed, dramatically forecasting the future headlines, “He tried to warn them, but did they listen? You get the rest, I imagine. We’ll have to improve some of the details, of course. Like how it was the 3rd Pathfinder Regiment which held back the flood of Amits in the final hour and ignited the fortress’ ammo depot—”
“We never did that,” Deschane objected, rudely cutting off Leelan’s train of thought, “It was the Divine Engine. I saw it with my own eyes. It broke out of Mound 13 and slaughtered the enemy.”
Leelan sighed.
“Not this again. Deschane, I’d appreciate it if you’d save your hallucinations for the regimental shrink. Think, man! The honor of our unit is at stake here. You have a chance to redeem the men of your platoon, even if you can never truly redeem yourself.”
“I saw it,” Deschane growled, and for a moment Leelan almost reached for his ceremonial saber hanging by its belt on his coatrack, “Sir, it left footprints the size of—”
“For heaven’s sake, you witless worm, the earthquake was felt all the way in the Southern Delta! Not very big one, but certainly enough to account for the avalanches and landslides that took place around Mound 13, not to mention the sinkhole we found you snoring in! It’s certainly not the first time an uncontrolled detonation triggered a seismic event. Deschane, I’ll only say this once: either you get your story straight or by thunder, I’ll bury you so deep in shit you’ll start to think you’re made of it! And you are! If you breathe a word of this delirious vision of yours to the press, you’ll not only receive no medals, but I’ll have you court-martialed faster than you can say ‘diddly-squat’. Which is precisely what you’ll be left with unless you jump like a good boy and ask how high. No honor, no rank, no reputation, no pension. Nothing! Do you understand?”
Colonel Leelan wrathfully thrust the glass at Deschane, spilling most of it in the process.
“Well, do you?”

Deschane hobbled out of the tent, escorted by a pair of grenadiers in fluffy white shakos. They sealed the adhesive lining of the tent airlock after him and the Navigator went on his way, the taste of honeydew lingering on his tongue like a bitter poison. He lifted his mask and hawked up a gob of spit that eloquently described his opinion of the colonel, wiping his scowling mouth with the back of his hand.
Ven was waiting for him with the crutches, a young and rather portly corporal with apple cheeks and a worried, pouting mouth. She helped Deschane as he made the slow and painful walk across the encampment to his field tent, the lord navigator deep in thought. Along the way they cut across the central avenue of the camp where a seemingly endless artillery train was lumbering its way up from the south and curving around the broad talus skirts of Gorgo Plateau, teams of scuttling myropods hitched to six or twelve-pounder guns, their hundreds of tiny legs threshing the soil into a quagmire. Behind them, plodding dejectedly into the rapidly liquefying mud, were ranks upon rank of fresh colonial levees, their brand-new sealant suits creaking loudly at the joints as they made what for most of them would be their first expedition into the surface world.
And what a foray it would prove to be. Almost two hundred thousand men amd women were mustered here at the edge of civilization, poised on the cusp of what was to be the largest surface offensive in recorded history. The Fleet had arrived in the Northern Hinterlands, and it had come to conquer.
"Gangway!" the levees hollered at Ven as she tried to cut a path for Deschane through the line, "Can't you see we's marching 'ere, ya stoopid bint?"
"He's an officer, ain't he?" she screamed back, pointing at the navigator.
Upon noticing the faded chevrons on Deschane's shoulders some of them clumsily snapped to attention, stopping in their tracks. Their comrades behind them, oblivious to this turn of events, bowled right into them, causing a minor stampede. Men and women cursed as they dropped their pristine muskets, never fired in the heat of battle, into the churning soup at their feet, or themselves went sprawling on their hands and knees. Baton-wielding sergeants descended on the mess, screaming for them to get back up, generously assisting them with a boot to the rump or a smack on the side of the head. Deschane looked back at the display for a long moment, as if considering something. Abruptly he grunted at Ven and they continued on their way to the outskirts where the Pathfinders were billeted.
She waited until they were inside the tent and Deschane was back in his sick bed, the navigator turning his back to her in stony silence. Cautiously, she ventured:
“What now, sir?”
“Draw up a list of volunteers,” he rasped, “But do it on the sly. We’re going back out there."
"Very good, sir," Ven squeaked, and went scurrying out of the navigator's chambers, sealing the tent flap softly behind her. She knew that tone and what it signified: the lord navigator had made up his mind, and heaven help whoever would stand in his way.

2024.05.16 21:35 AbjectCommission3056 My parent punched my little brother in the face.

I am (16m) and my parent has done some things they shouldn't have like, giving my little brother a nosebleed or picking me up by my shirt and pinning me against the wall, and they can be angry and yelling pretty often. I can remember these events pretty well and it has caused me to be wary around people in general. But, they aren't like this all the time. They are a great person who is kind and cares for me and my siblings. But I still find it hard to trust. I feel guilty for this. I hate the drastic change in behavior as if nothing ever happened. It makes me feel as if I'm being overdramatic. My parents are starting to ask me more and more of why my attitude has changed and I am unable to tell them about this I don't know what will happen. Help?

2024.05.16 21:32 Ill-Collection-3984 Thoughts on applying twice to one position

I recently got in touch with a connection on linkedin and his company happened to be hiring for a Senior UX Designer. I reached out to him asking for a referral but didn't get a response in time so i went ahead and applied regardless because history/experience would serve me well to know that the earlier you apply the better. 4 days after i applied he responds and asks me to apply and put down his name as a reference.
Please do you think it'll make any sense to send in another application in the space of a week?

2024.05.16 21:26 TheHappySkier [CA] Minor job title discrepancies in background check

My background check from Hireright came back with two discrepancies. One was a mistake on my end, the other it appears the person verifying the information wasn't accurate (or maybe didn't realize the importance of it matching exactly). I have already accepted the written offestarted the onboarding process.
So I'm a graphic designer... On one job I stated that I was a 'Designer' and turns out the actual job title was 'Production Designer'. This was a totally honest mistake. It was a short lived job and I only remember them referring to me as Designer. I had completely forgotten the production part! It wasn't until they brought it to my attention and I dug up my offer letter in an archived email and I realized I had made an error. I told them they were right and I had made a mistake.
On job two I was 'Senior Graphic Designer'. This was absolutely my job title. Evidently the person confirming said I was a 'Graphic Designer'. And his response to verify my dates of employement was "that sounds about right"—which also caused a red flag that I was asked to verify. I saw the name of the person confirming my information in the report, and when I worked with him, he was also a staff member (he's now a partner, which I assume is why he took the call), but I'm guessing he doesn't remember my exact title (also this was another job I wasn't at very long due to a move). The business owner that hired me would probably be the only one that remembers accurately. It's a very small agency so I'm sure their record keeping is different than a large corporation.
I had applied for job two through Ziprecruiter, and even though the job is closed you could see that I applied in my account history, indicating a Senior role, and the date and time my resume was viewed by the business owner. I also had a follow up email from the business owner through Ziprecruiter stating the job title. So I sent screen shots of both of those. I also sent over some email correspondence between the owner and I indicating start date and my acceptance of the 'Senior' Designer role. And I found a check from the last month I was there & my 1095-c form showing insurance coverage for the time I was employed by them as documentation of dates employed.
The whole process thus far with my new company has been so smooth and everyone has been very communicative throughout the process, but I sent these files over two days ago and haven't heard back yet. I've been checking email incessantly and making myself crazy! Wondering if I should follow up or give it a little more time? Is this something I should worry about?

2024.05.16 21:24 PorkyThePigDragon T-Shirt Give Away Vendor

I have a company launching in the fall and we want to provide everyone at our summer camps a t-shirt with our new company’s logo on it with a design.
Does anyone have a goto vendor for something like this?
I would love for it to be a good, comfortable shirt so people wear it all the time.
I’m trying to keep it under $10 per shirt for a total order of around 500 Shirts. Is that possible?
Any help, guidance or suggestions based on experience would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

2024.05.16 21:20 kerrplunk26 Looking for Wacom capabilities for non-graphic design usage

The company I work for in a sense does data analytics. Prior to going paperless, we would print off pages and pages of data and have to sort through it with a pen and highlighter. Think of printing off phone records or bank accounts and looking for specific things. Some phone numbers or account numbers get crossed off, some get circled, some get highlighted, and some have a note written beside them. Now that we are paperless and everything is done via PDF or a web-based program that efficiency is gone. (I do consider the old pen and paper to be more efficient)
No one that I am aware of uses a pen-mouse or anything of the sort within my company. So I’m looking into the capabilities of a pen-mouse or pen & tablet solution to pitch to senior management. And instead of asking what the pen-mouse can do, I thought I could explain what I’m looking for and if it’s possible or available and with what type of product. Many years ago I took a graphic design class and Wacom is the only brand I know of that uses a pen & tablet product. Which is why I’m here.
I feel like what I’m looking for is very basic. And mostly, I want the ability to write and highlight PDF documents and potentially do the same within a web-based program. I would need it to write, draw, highlight (not highlight to copy and paste, but use like an actual highlighter), select, scroll, left and right click. Be able to switch between a pen and highlighter by a hotkey. Hotkey also pulls up colors. If it can convert what I write into typed text that would be cool. Or a hotkey brings up a text box. (we are not writing sentences, but acronyms)
Really that is it. I do think it’s basic but I’m not sure of the compatibility with PDF’s or other environments. Some people do use the PDF tools with a mouse to draw and highlight, but it's rare.
Thanks up front to anyone that can provide advice or opinions.

2024.05.16 21:19 2Cheese1Van I had an idea.

I had an idea.
I saw an image online and decided to make a shirt for it. I had a DTF iron on made and designed the shirt to be complimentary. It tried to make a brown square in the middle to be a background for the transfer. Turned out pretty close.

2024.05.16 21:17 TripleStufOreos Cheaper school but for another year?

Hello, I’m currently going to Gonzaga University which is very expensive and I am taking on a lot of debt, but I think that I should be able to be done after my junior year, I would just have to do the senior design a year early. I’m thinking about transferring to WSU because I just don’t know if I can do with as much debt as I would have at GU. I would have to go there for 3 more years instead of 2 but from my rough estimations would save between 20-30k in loans. I’m wondering if the job market is in a place right now where I would be better off taking the lesser amount of debt and another year in school to hopefully let it recover and give myself more opportunities in the future and not rush things, and also not have to worry about getting a high paying job right after school.
Currently at 30k from one year at GU, would be about 95-100k when done
I think WSU I would take about 12k a year and would be at 66k-75k in debt when done..
Any thoughts or advice on my situation would be very helpful, and I’d be happy to answer any questions

2024.05.16 20:38 misskatielouise A lot is wrong with my job and my manager... what would you do?... employee for 4.5 years.

So I’ve been in my job for 4.5 years as a designer for a marketing agency. For the last year or so, work has been bitty and I’ve found my spark for the job has completely disappeared and I’m so unmotivated.
When I do have work, the briefs that are given to me are terrible. Main files missing in attachments, briefs not making sense and being as black and white as a brief should be
Ontop of all of this, my manager is a typical micromanager, which I have handled well for the last few years, but he makes very sexually provoking comments every now and again which makes me feel uncomfortable and I’ve also noticed that he gets a kick out of talking down to me (my colleague has also picked up on this) it almost seems sexual to him. I’m in my twenties, he is in his forties and married… Furthermore, last year when he was clearly worried he could have lost his job he said to me ‘if anybody will be let go because of the low work, you’d be the first in the design team as I have a mortgage to pay for and you’re bottom of the pecking order’. Beginning of this year also said in a ‘polite’ cheeky way with a smile on his face ‘don’t expect a payrise’ and many other comments.
I’ve kept my head down and just kept working
But since telling HR about the above (minus the sexual comments because I don’t want to cause more problems at my workplace) requesting to come into the office less, and mentioning that I feel I am underpaid, I received a wishy washy email back saying that they want me to continue being in the office as much as I am to ‘further contribute to development’ and they are confident that my managers will support my request for a payrise in the future. It also almost feels like they’re trying to protect my manager as they haven’t taken any comments further.
In comparison, another colleague has been allowed to come into the office once a month at work, due to moving. Their excuse for not letting me come in once a week instead of twice is that I chose to move house. Well funnily enough, the other colleague also chose to move house, and is set to move house again to another country and come in once every other month with hotel expenses paid, so why am I being treated differently? We have both been at the company for the same amount of time
As much as the company are approachable etc, I feel like I’m not at all valued as a loyal, hardworking employee.
Since everything, I’ve been very quiet at work, barely talking to my manager anymore, absolutely zero small talk. I’m usually one of the chattiest people in the office. Only talking and being chatty to the colleagues that are close to me or haven’t done anything wrong. My attitude has completely changed to my company
I’m currently looking for a new job, but I’ve noticed that my job has made me depressed. I’m crying a lot at home, I’m on edge a lot and I feel like I need to get out of this job as soon as possible.
Does anybody, please, have any advice? Am I creating more of a problem by being quiet and not as chatty at work or would you be the same?
