Has anyone experienced an ovarian torsion while pregnant?

2024.05.16 14:10 Royal-Check6914 Has anyone experienced an ovarian torsion while pregnant?

I've been hospitalised twice within the past month for a suspected partial ovarian torsion. The pain is excruciating. Its like a sudden radiating pain that originates from what I feel is my ovary, and spreads down my leg and sometimes up to my kidney. I've had ultrasounds and an MRI but they couldn't find any evidence of it. However they did find a small cyst on my ovary (I have PCOS).
From what I understand, the hormones that soften/weaken the muscles during pregnancy to make room for baby could have affected that area and the cyst threw off my ovary's centre of gravity, causing a partial torsion.
The pain is unreal and lasts for a few days. But it's so bad I have to be hospitalised - on a combo of codeine and paracetamol, which wasnt strong enough to alleviate the pain. Has anyone gone through this? I'm in my second trimester. Pregnancy has been unrelenting. I'm scared of what the 3rd trimester will bring. Any support/advice is appreciated!

2024.05.15 17:41 dh6162 CXL Update! Day by day update

Hey, so I just thought I’d give an update on my recent CXL experience. Thought it would help anyone who’s planning on getting it done or worried about it!
So I had Epi Off CXL on 7th May. Couldn’t feel anything during it and it was about 40 mins for both eyes. About an hour later the pain started. It is pretty painful but it’s bearable to an extent (depends on pain threshold), it’s mostly a burning sensation. Was prescribed codeine and paracetamol which helped quite a bit.
Day 2-3: I started taking an antibiotic ointment every hour for 7 days. Eyesight was quite blurry. Pain wasn’t too bad at this point.
Day 4: Had my post-op. The doctor had said my eyes were healed she was quite happy with my progress, there was no sign of infection and my eyes looked quite normal apart from the swelling. i also had a slight corneal haze. She said I still needed to be cautious about infections and needed to take my medication. I still had quite blurry vision although I could still fine to go to my appointment with my parents. i was still very sensitive to light (Wore sunglasses until day 7).
Day 5: My vision picked up slightly but quite blurry. No pain at all.
Day 6-8: My vision is still blurry but the haziness has gone I can see clearer for about a metre and a half and that’s about it. I do feel sometimes I wake up with blurry vision and my fluctuates but it’s not too crazy. Fingers crossed I can get back to baseline quite soon! From my own personal experience I thought the vision recovery wasn’t as bad as it actually is.
Hope this has helped anyone out! Of course everyone’s experience is different but just thought I’d share as I know it can be quite daunting to think about it.

2024.05.13 13:48 Connect-Page3449 Are they missing something?

I was admitted to hospital on saturday night because I collapsed in extreme pain. I honestly felt like i was dying i usually have a very high pain threshold because i am in pain constantly with my colitis. Something felt seriously wrong like my stomach was exploding. It has died down somewhat but i've had regular morphine, paracetamol and codeine. It is still crazy intense i can barely walk. they did a scan on my abdomen and nothing with my colitis looks too sinister. they found a cyst on my ovary that had burst so they transferred me to womens hospital because they thought it was that. the specialist here then told me that the cyst is too small to be causing this much pain. so they said it must be my colitis but there's nothing sinister going on it's just a really bad flare. all they can do is keep giving me pain relief until it dies down. they think i'm quite constipated and they're going to give me laxative. i feel like they're missing something like i don't understand how nothing in particular can be causing this much severe pain. has anyone experienced anything similiar?

2024.05.13 02:05 easygpeasy10 What’s the point of co-codamol?

Personally never prescribe it- would usually do paracetamol + codeine separate, I understand it in GP whereby supplying quantities of codeine alone opens it to abuse, but on the wards when do you usually give co-codamol?

2024.05.11 08:19 NatashaBezukhova Intermittent fever - not sure what it is

I’m 31F in the Uk and have had a fever that goes up and down since Thursday morning (varies from 38.3 degrees Celsius to 36.4 degrees) and keeps changing rapidly. Only other symptoms are just general aches, headache, fluttery feeling in chest, not feeling hungry and feeling faint.
I just feel something is wrong as I never get fevers and this isn’t like any cold or flu or Covid I’ve had. I was out on Monday and had pain swallowing in the evening but it went away overnight after I took codeine/paracetamol. I’ve also had constant headaches for the last few days. Then i woke up on Thursday with a temperature of 38.3 degrees Celsius. I am regularly taking paracetamol and flu capsules but it’s not making any difference.
I went to see an out of hours GP who found I had low blood pressure and palpitations as well but couldn’t see any physical causes for my fever etc. He didn’t do any bloods or urine test.
Any idea what this could be or if I need to try and get it checked asap?
Thank you!

2024.05.11 00:14 letskeepitasecrett How can I help pain and temperature from sunburn?

Complaint : I sunburn very easily and also get a reaction when in the sun. I wear SPF and stay covered as much as I can but I am in a warm climate and it is not always possible.
Today my legs were covered but still got very red, itchy and are swollen in some places. I have a temperature of 39 Celsius (102.2f). My arms are red too but not so bad.
Apart from pirotin , paracetamol and aloe Vera gel, what can I do to help the pain?
Background : Severe allergic asthma (consistent high IGE levels), diagnosed with Sjogren's. History of anaphylactic allergy to codeine, ibuprofen and aspirin (was ventilated after one episode). Suspected hidranditis superativa (not diagnosed or assessed by a dermatologist).
Currently : 200mg bd of plaquenil, symbicort (previously trelegy), singular. Pirotin (antihistamine ) once daily. Applying aloe Vera gel a lot. Took 1 g of paracetamol nearly 4 hours ago and another 1 gram now.

2024.05.09 15:33 Fullyarns What is the name of this pain I'm experiencing?

What is the name of this pain I'm experiencing?
Bit of context to start with. 32, male, have seen doctors many times but they don't know and I am months away from my booking with a pain specialist. Been suffering with these types of headaches (or close to they evolve over time) for about 15 years, and headaches in general my entire life.
Have been to the dentist, my teeth aren't great but they shouldn't be causing this much pain, and a sinus xray showed nothing. Have had a head and neck mri, showed nothing.
The only medication to ever effectively help in a remedial sense has been eletriptan which i take 3-4 times a week as needed. Nothing has worked as a preventative. Have seen a neurologist who suggested i try amitriptyline but i can't because it interacts with my anti depressants (fluoxetine). Medications that have so far not worked are - Propranolol, Topiramate, ibuprofen, paracetamol, codeine variants of the same, and a few others i can't think of now because im in pain haha
In the attached picture is drawn the lines and points along where I feel my pain my pain. usually its only one pain type at a time, one side of the head at the time, but there are anomalies. these types of pain can range from nothing more than alight nuisance 2/10, to a 10/10, sobbing, rolling around in bed, vomiting, extreme nausea and going to the hospital because the meds aren't working fast enough.
Pain type 1 feels like a strong blunt external pressure bearing down on my skull along those lines, tension in the neck, and i guess tension in all the fascia muscles affected, including my gums, it feels like my teeth are being pulled.
Pain type 2 feels like jamming a tablespoon into the back of your head where the neck meets the skull and and doing the same thing but above the eye into the bone of the eye socket on top of and behind the eye. with a line of pain over the top of my hea and down the neck into shoulders.
The pain can come during the day, can be triggered by stress both mental and physical, can be triggered by an errant thought about the pain itself, but 80 percent of the time i wake up with them as the main cause. Most of the time sensitive to light and sound, but sometimes not at all. I know that's a fucking wall of text but cheers if you read any of that.
TLDR - What pain do you think I'm experiencing based on the drawing? my best guess is occipital and/or trigeminal neuralgia. Any help massively appreciated, cheers.

2024.05.07 01:37 Giagus I have a root canal coming up. I am afraid of the pain. Can i take painkillers before the appointment, assuming they will give me local anaesthetic as well?

I had a dentist appointment a couple of weeks ago to give me a temporary tooth dressing. They gave me local anesthetic and also topped the anaesthetic up twice within 30 minutes. But I still felt extremely severe pain that has made me very afraid for the pain i may have to endure during the root canal (On the same tooth). I have Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Keral, and Codeine available that i could take before the appointment. Is it safe to take any of these plus local anaesthetic? I don't know if sedetives are an option , i have not discussed it with my Dentist. I am in the UK.

2024.05.06 21:46 kingkemi Recommendations for sharp stabbing pain?🗡️

I currently take codeine and paracetamol for pain. I can’t take NSAIDs because they’ve ruined my stomach lining, so I take opioids and analgesics only.
It’s day 6 of my first period in eight months due to being on Norethisterone to stop my periods, and good LORD. The cramps, burning, pulling and pulsing are bad enough, but I’m starting to get new sharp stabbing pains that feel like my insides are being scraped by barbed wire, and I can’t even stand up straight. As I’ve already taken codeine for four days in a row, I’m trying not to take it, but paracetamol is doing diddly squat.
Has anyone ever experienced sharp pains with their Endo? If you do, what do you take for it?

2024.05.06 19:30 Laydn_ I'm a pharmacy, and I'm tired.

I take medications like I eat candy.
I have migraines EVERY DAY. Different kinds, only left, right, both sides, with eye pain, without, heart beating feeling, ice peak feeling etc.
I saw multiple doctors, did multiple tests, all were clean. My brain has no issues.
I had paracetamol, ibuprofen, codeine, opium, eletriptan, sumatriptan, zolmitriptan, rizatriptan, paracetamol with codeine, ibuprofen with codeine, paracetamol with opium, caffeine, aspirin, different dosages so that it behaves differently, CBD: oil and joint, no effect. I wanted to try Vydura/Nurtec (rimegepant), but it's not free in France, and very expensive.
I also tried changing my whole life, cold showers, very hot, morning shower, evening, drinking more water, less, eating more meat, vegetables, doing workout, sleeping at very strict hours, using an air humidifier, opening my windows, closing them, avoiding lights, noises etc. Nothing works. It's been years now and years ago I went to school, and I already had these migraines. Now I live at home, and they are exactly the same, so I know my life habits don't affect much my migraines as even after changing my whole life, migraines are still here.
My problem is that my body gets used to molecules VERY quickly, like in a week. I have to take around 200mg of codeine to have a relief, that only lasts only two hours at most. I'm a pharmacy, and I developped a shame of talking about my migraines and medications.
I want to note that I have a eye strain of 21, which is high. I had eye drops, but it didn't help my pains.
Also, as it is a rule, I am not seeking any medical advice, I rather just want to share my "life" and talk with you guys on what you do to feel better and how you bear with these migraines in your everyday life.
I hope this message is not too weird, but I just can't take it anymore, I am tired of having a pain 24/7, I can't live.
Have a very good day guys, and good luck with your migraines too. Love !

2024.05.05 20:57 Advanced-Bunch-1051 My medical abortion experience - positive

I Wanted to give my experience which wasn’t awful because I was so so scared before doing this because of hearing horror stories. I’m so scared of being sick too so it took a lot to do it. I was 4weeks 3 days at the time of taking second tablets. Here’s my timeline
Friday 6pm - I took the first tablet mifepristone (felt no different all day)
Saturday 5:50pm - I chose to take 2 adcodol tablets which i have for migraines as it contains codeine/paracetamol/ doxylamine succiante (anti nausea)
6:10 I put 4 misoprostol pills in vaginally (I read it can have less side effects and less likely make you feel sick)
6:30 bit of back ache started
6:45 bit of tummy ache started (normal period ache)
7:30 saw a very small bit of blood when went to wee
8pm regular amount bleeding started and I took 2 ibuprofen
8:15 tummy ache increased but heat pack helped a little
8:25 small clots coming out and heavier bleeding at this point
9:05 felt a noticeably larger clot come out in pad (size of a thumb?) assumed this might be the embryo but being 4 weeks wasn’t expecting anything huge.
10pm tummy cramps got stronger so took more adcodol (still were bareable) probably would’ve hurt abit more without the tablets I’m guessing
10:30 I feel abit acidy so thought I maybe hungry? Ate a few snacks and chips. Still a lot of smaller clots coming out when weeing. (Chose not to use the extra 2 misoprostol )
12am still got consistent cramp but no more than 6/10 pain, bareable, heavy bleeding so put big thick pad in for the night and still felt acidic in stomach. Went to sleep didn’t have much trouble.
Woke up once in the night about 3 am and hadn’t bled through the thick thick pad and tummy wasn’t hurting
9am Sunday - Wake up again and not a lot of bleeding this morning and tummy still not hurting anymore
The rest of the day has been light bleeding and the blood is less bloody? If that makes sense lol. I’ve also not had a tummy ache today right up til 9am got abit of tummy ache. Ever since I got pregnant I had a lower tummy ache, kinda like period cramp but constant and more subtle? Anyway since doing this that has been gone.
Overall it was not as bad as I thought and didn’t feel sick or have diarrhea, in fact didn’t even poo once still haha. I’m Hoping it has worked, as they say it will be a big clot but my biggest (that I saw) was thumb sized but like abit wider. Should I have used the extra 2 mosoprostol? Surely the embryo would’ve come out with the clots considering google says it’s only poppy seed sized at 4 weeks? Let me know if you think it was successful please!
Update - Monday - quite a lot of tummy cramps today and bleeding heavier than yesterday

2024.05.05 18:55 MemoryTerrible6875 Has anyone been told they can use codeine temporarily for pain?

I'm currently 20+6 and got a call on Friday that the urine sample I handed over on Wednesday showed I have a UTI. They told me they were prescribing me antibiotics but earliest pick up would be Tuesday due to it being a bank holiday. I said that's fine as I had no symptoms.
Well Friday night I started with pain in the bottom of my ribs on the right hand side. I thought I was maybe constipated but I've been to the toilet and still in pain. Last night I was having spasms there every 8-10 seconds which were quite painful. Now I'm struggling to get comfy lying down. I was at work on Friday so it could be muscular pain, but I'm worried my UTI has spread to my right kidney.
I've been using paracetamol but the relief doesn't last long and I only have one tablet left. I do however, have some codeine 30mg I'm tempted to take just for tonight and tomorrow until I can pick up my prescription Tuesday. Online gives mixed answers and I don't think I can contact the midwifes til Tuesday either. The same with seeing a GP etc. TIA
ETA, I've also started with the burning after urination. I am drinking plenty of water

2024.05.05 12:47 AgreeableSound2560 Medical abortion experience in Australia

Just sharing my story. My abortion was safe, affordable and done at home. I thought I’d share as most abortion stories are told by younger women. I am 32, and a mother of two school aged children. Mentally and financially I could not have a third child, I was reluctant to choose abortion as I experienced a surgical abortion that I found traumatic but still felt sure that I must end the pregnancy. After doing a home test I book a gp appointment with the first female gp I can ( I was not thinking straight and my regular is always booked out). I am in luck though, because although gp’s can prescribe the medical abortion here they need to have undertaken voluntary extra training to do so. The gp is warm and friendly, she reassures me that we will get this sorted asap. She warns me that because I am so early I will need to wait until signs of pregnancy can be viewed on an ultrasound. As I’m about 4 weeks I need to wait another week to get an ultrasound. For me the ultrasound was the hardest part and I had a little cry in the car park after ( I request for the screen to be turned off and the healthcare professional doesn’t show me or talk about the pregnancy). Before the ultrasound I had a blood test to get the hormone level, you need to do both blood test and ultrasound before getting the medication prescribed. Both the ultrasound and blood test are bulk billed (no charge). Two days later I have a phone gp appointment and she walks me through what to expect. She prescribed codeine, paracetamol and nausea medication alongside the abortion pills. I pay $32 for this at the chemist, the appointment was bulk billed. My gp reassures me that she is available for support anytime and gives me the clinics after hour nurse line if I am anxious / experiencing pain in the process. I take the first pill at 11am and I go about my day, feeling tired and a bit depressed. The second part of the procedure is to take the mistoprostol 36 hours later. Before taking the abortion pills I take the pain killers, nausea medicine and an Ativan I found in the medicine basket. I’m afraid at this point but really ready for it to be over. I put on a giant pad and settle down on the couch with my husband to watch tv. I feel slightly crampy, but I have this whole pregnancy.
After an hour nothing has happened, I then fall asleep on the couch. I truly believed I would be up all night in pain. I truly just slept through the whole thing. I woke up at 7:00 am feeling wet, I had bleed through my pants RIP track pants. I am in no pain at all, I run to the bathroom and sit on the toliet and feel blood pouring out. I hear a large plop sound and see a clot the size of a plum in the toliet. I had immediately felt ‘not pregnant’ and relieved upon waking up. Throughout the day I’ve had bleeding with some strange clots but no pain, only slightly heavier than a period to me. I feel worn out but otherwise fine. Coffee tasted normal again to me which is a welcome surprise. All in all, I am so relieved and wanted to share my positive experience. I’m so grateful that I could just go to my gp to get this sorted and that everyone treated me with compassion. Part of my apprehension was that I had a surgical abortion 13 years ago which I really struggled with, but my medical abortion has been much easier for me to go through. Best wishes to everyone, any questions feel free!

2024.05.03 12:11 BaioC Hemorrhoidectomy madness (and a question on fissures)

I had a hemorrhoidectomy on 3 grade 3 internals a few weeks ago - I only went in for a THD procedure but they said they might need to do the full whack if they were bad and guess what…
Trying my best not to discourage people who are thinking about surgery here, but recovery has been pretty horrendous:
Day 1: Procedure went fine, they woke me up and I got driven home. Arrogantly thought I could avoid taking the codeine they’d given me at the right time and ended up in complete agony (it takes about an hour and a half to kick in). Thankfully passed in a bit.
Day 3: Still hadn’t had a bm and strained a bit trying to get it out (with no luck). I’d also under-anticipated how much the codeine would bung me up so was a bit behind on the laxatives - waited and managed to go a couple of times, the second time being very bloody.
Day 5: Maybe the worst day of the lot - had a BM during a painkiller lull and honestly was begging for death - I think it’s the closest you can get to feeling like you’ve actually been stabbed.
Pain started to drop around day 7-8 and I could reduce the amount of painkillers I was taking, but had a few days of intense pain/spasms in my lower back/tailbone.
By day 9 I was just about dealing with pain enough to work from home, but still getting really bad pain during and after bms - and it’s more or less been like that for the last 10 days.
Bleeding stopped at around day 14, but then restarted a few days later. It’s generally a really sharp pain during a bm, which then goes away pretty quickly. But over the next few hours I get this burning/throbbing that crescendos about 3 hours after, and then subsides again. It’s manageable with paracetamol (although I have had to take codeine a couple of times) but it’s very frustrating that it doesn’t seem to be getting better.
I’ve also got an external hemorrohoid since the second or third day that won’t budge (having never had one before).
Ended up going to the hospital last night (day 19) as I had a random, sharp pain in the middle of the day that I hadn’t had before.
The surgeon said he couldn’t see any evidence of a fissure but couldn’t rule out there being one higher up, and gave me some creams to deal with the swelling.
At this point it’s hard to say that the surgery’s been worth it, and I kinda wish I’d had something less invasive done by a private doc. I’ve had the mentality of being willing to take short term pain to be better in the long run, but if I come out of this with a fissure and an external hem (or huge skin tag) I’m gonna be pretty bummed.
My question is really how a fissure is any different to an open hemorrhoidectomy wound, and whether this is just the latter and it’s being slow to heal?
My other hunch is that I’ve been going too hard on the fibre, and I actually need to cut down on that and I actually need to cut down on that and the stool softeners. Gonna be three weeks tomorrow, praying there’s some sort of turning point soon.

2024.05.02 03:39 thanskforalthefish Kidney damage in healthy 22yo?

Please help. My boyfriend is really ill and we don't know what may have caused it or which specialists to see / what tests to run. The NHS have been useless.
Male Caucasian from South Africa, we live in the UK 22 years Height 190cm weight 100kg Has occasional Migraines No other conditions Never touched steroids or anything close No drugs or smoking. Drinks occasionally. Drinks at least 3L or 4L water a day.
Healthy and works out regularly. Used to gym and take 2 scoops of protein powder, 1 scoop preworkout and sometimes, creatine (a normal amount). Hasn't touched it for months and the ER ruled it out as a problem.
April 8th: After having a cold, so not working out or taking supplements for 2 weeks, he had a sharp pain in his head for 5 days on and off and a fever of 38.6 and so went to A&E for suspected meningitis (he didnt have it). They gave him IV antibiotics and while there found his kidneys were not working properly. Bloods showed kidney damage. They said it was maybe from his height.
EFGR was 58. His WBC normal. No infection or kidney infection. No diabetes etc. Did a CT scan of his head which was normal so sent him home with a diagnoses of cluster headaches and acute kidney injury.
The next day he had extreme pain in his kidneys so went to GP. They gave him antibiotics for a kidney infection (even though it had been ruled out) and said it was due to stress. They didn't help.
Since then he has had regular fevers (36.5 - 38.6c), lots of thirst, fatigue, headaches and unable to sleep regularly as well as extreme kidney pain, mainly on the right side but a little on the left too at times. He is exhausted doing anything (eg unloading dishwasher) and can't work. He is taking paracetamol and codeine for the pain on and off but nothing else works.
Dr did a full blood panel and even tested for Malaria and all normal except kidney results.
He had an ultrasound 2 days ago and was told there is extreme scarring on both kidneys but they need to send it to the dr to analyse.
The gp are very overbooked and won't give him an appointment for 8 days so we can't even see the results.
Please help.
He is getting private health insurance tomorrow. What specialists can help and what tests can we get done? Any ideas what it could be? I a'm really worried it may be permanent and we don't understand how it's happened. He is a fit and healthy 22 year old but now he can't do anything at all. His work won't pay any more sick leave. The GPs have been useless and don't know what is wrong and don't seem to care. We came back from a trip to Mozambique, Swaziland and South Africa in Jan. Could it be related to that?

2024.05.01 15:13 adultangstisreal I got pain meds put on repeat prescription

M26 in the U.K.
So I was having a lot of severe pelvic and leg pain. Was at first given pregabalin, which helped a bit but I needed actual pain medication to live life well. Well now I’m classed as having a diagnosis, as they found slipped discs pushing on the nerves in my spine ( moderately). I’ve been referred to the spinal surgeons but I also had a whole medication review when I saw my GP. They are now allowing me to increase my pregabalin dose and take codeine when I need to top up my other pain medications (pregabalin and paracetamol). The fact that it’s on repeat is such a relief as I no longer have to ring up and beg for another one off prescription. Now I get a certain number of tablets a month no questions asked. Well, at least, until the spinal surgeons decide what they want to do with me.

2024.04.30 13:50 devillydoll Could I possibly have Endo?

I’m F16 and have had relatively bad periods since I was 11, ever since I was 15 they have gotten so bad that I just have to lay in a dark room and groan all day for days.
Ibuprofen and paracetamol have barely helped and the only medicine that helped me was the maximum dose of Codeine which was prescribed for a few days for my wisdom tooth removal. Obviously Codeine is an opiod so I can’t take it long term and also the doctors are not going to give it to me again, I feel like they just don’t believe me.
Anyways, my last around 7 periods have been extremely bad and I can’t do anything, my latest period which I’m having right now has become so unbearably painful I don’t know what to do, It hurts to laugh and cry, to shift in position or walk anywhere and it hurts so bad to go to the toilet. Last night it was so bad I had to go to the Emergency Room but they couldn’t find anything life threatening so they sent me home with more ibuprofen.
I’m also in constant pain btw it just gets so so much worse on my period, I have to constantly use a heating pad which has also given me not very good burns on my stomach
This is getting to the point where it is as painful if not more than when I had appendicitis and had to get it removed, I don’t know what to do and my mum won’t take me to the doctor because she thinks they won’t do anything, she also is strongly against any other pain medications that aren’t over the counter.
I have a gut feeling that something is really wrong and I don’t know how to get people to listen to me when I say that! any tips would be helpful!
So! sorry I’m rambling I’m just wondering if this could be endometriosis and like how painful it can be because this is some of the worst i’ve experienced ever. I’m really sorry if this is hard to read I’m just panicking a little and need help 😭💗
