Now I had been to Vegas 3 times before, and I know how different the costs can be on/off strip and between the diferent hotels etc. The agency came back with a couple of options, and let me tell you the cheapest option was 1200 per night, (300 PP) and didnt even meet all the requirements she had. And it didn't yet include the tax, or extra hotel fees .
Also, this did not include the food, the entertainment or the two weeks each of us spend over there after Vegas.
So I got on the phone and tried to find cheaper solutions, e.g. have a joining room, or a different hotel or anything. With this info I was able to find a couple of options that were way more reasonable and would have cut our cost down to more than half, including the extra fees. I send these options to the girls, and with my concerns, and that financially I could not afford the unnessecary expenses. I mean.....have you ever been in Vegas and spend much time in your room to validate that high of cost?
I WAS COMPLETELY IGNORED! Like that email did not even exist.
Lola's friend then send a few options that were not cheaper than the first option, and those were acknowledged. Lola then send an excel spreadsheet with the calculation on 3 different hotels (which my option wasn't even listed) All in all she was planning to spend 8000 Euros for herself. She said they all met on the weekend and discussed the options. I told her we live in 2023 and it would have been nice to dial me into this conversation, as technology allows it these days. So I gave her 1 day to reply, and I then texted her a fistfull of my thoughts. I told her about my disappointment, that she would take the luxury over a lifelong friendship. That I would have gone against the wishes of my doctor. That it is very interesting that she was whining a year ago about her financial situation, but has no respect of situations others might be in. And that I am deeply saddened it had to come to this.

Well......yes it is, and our friendship is now over.
Oh and best of all, since I had booked my flight through her Travel agency, they had booked it in a way, that I could not even change my flights or cancel them (no insurance), I could only change the dates. SHTF tonight when my dad decided to confront me about the entire situation, over text messages and let me know that family members feel I have forced my half sister’s presence in their lives. So after a month of breaking up yesterday I broke NC. When we ended things a lot of it felt weird or like it was still in the air. It was an “amicable” breakup (I was the dumpee) but he told me things like he loved me, he would miss me, and we would talk again one day.

Grad season has just started - my best tips as a 20+ year veteran of UTS ceremonies

1. The gown is heavy wool, and the room is packed - it is going to be WARM! Guys - leave the suit jacket with your friends. You’ll get too hot. Also - the stage is raised - this can be an issue with very short skirts.
   
2. Need flowers? They sell them at the Activate stall near the Tower entrance (but always cheaper buying them closer to home than a florist near the uni)
   
3. Get your degree framed on the day - the testamur is an unusual size and you can’t buy a ready made frame anywhere. If you miss it on the day - you can come back any other ceremony to get it done - but it is a PITA.
   
4. Wear shoes you can walk in. If you don’t normally feel confident in high heels - avoid them! You’re going to be nervous on stage as it is, don’t add the embarrassment of falling.
   
5. If you want a personalised graduation bear - order it online from Activate now and pick up on the day.
   
6. Encourage your family and friends to cheer when they hear your name!
   
7. Agree on a meeting spot for after the ceremony - you’ll be walking out after the staff, then guests slowly filter out after - if you don’t have a meeting spot - there is a lot of “where are you?” on the phone.

I heard at a Warren Council meeting a while back recently that the UC SHIPS are increasing (this might be old news by now). I kinda forgot how much exactly but I heard it's because of the extensive number of emergency room visits by students.
