Advice for diagnosing oil issue
Craftsman lawn tractor leaked some oil over the winter, starts up and runs OK, doesn’t appear to smoke when it’s running, but after I shut down, smoke drifts up from the exhaust area. I don’t think it’s hot enough for the residual oil to be burning. Looking for some common sense advice in approaching diagnosis. Thanks in advance. Engine is a Briggs & Stratton single cylinder, overhead valve configuration, model number attached.

2024.05.19 17:27 Sit_Paint_and_play Got an old Craftsman riding lawn mower where the belt broke off. I took the old belt and use the measuring tool at Lowe's, got a new belt and put it on, and it's too loose. I got an 87 in, should I get an 85 or an 86?

I've looked everywhere online and nobody seems to have the answer for the belt size I even got a hold of Craftsman and Husqvarna and it took Craftsman over 3 weeks to get back to me on an answer to this question and then husqvar still hasn't replied so I just can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

2024.05.18 20:32 HangarQueen Here's a "Yay Luba!" post so that Mammotion doesn't think of my as a constant whiner :-/

I've been posting several negative things in this forum since receiving my Luba last week. And yes, there are a bunch of things that I'd like to see addressed. The great bulk of these are simply software issues and I hope that the Mammotion developers will eventually get to them. I also hope that they'll prioritize my two "Urgent items" in the list I posted earlier.
But I want to add that I'm still VERY HAPPY with my Luba 2 3000H. Luba has cut all of my six areas twice each now, and is doing quite a good job of it. My lawn hasn't looked this good in a long time -- and Luba will continue maintaining it will almost zero effort on my part. It's so enjoyable to watch Luba on my iPad with FPV while I'm working on other things on my laptop. The grass is shaved off very precisely and the cut is so sharp that the grass blades seem healthier already.
And it's freed up all that mowing time for me to do the OTHER things in my yard that I keep putting off. Like getting down some weed killer and fertilizer and fungicide (not all together of course), trimming bushes (so that Luba's bumper or camera doesn't bump into them), running the big roller over the yard to flatten bumps, aerating, cleaning up perimeters of debris, string trimming, and so on. Luba just goes on doing her thing silently without complaint, and I can get on with doing my things.
So I'm still very happy for my purchase, and hope to have many enjoyable years of productivity from the little beast while the grass starts looking better and better. As software fixes and enhancements are released over time, the experience should keep getting better too.

If the stars align right (ie the seller doesn’t do anything wrong and there’s no hidden issues), my family and I will be moving from a home on a 60x100 lot, to a home on just under 2 acres. The property is flat, and mostly open, with the exception of trees along the perimeter, and large shrub beds along the outside of the home. Looking for suggestions on mower type (standard or zero turn), suggested deck size, engine brand, drive type, and any options that I should really consider. For background, I grew up on just under an acre where over the years we did everything from a self-propelled 21” Craftsman, to a rear engine rider, to a lawn tractor. I had my own lawn mowing business for seven years, and had a walk behind, and a 51” Cub Cadet zero turn (Home Depot model). Life happened, got married, started a family, moved closer to the city for work, and ended up on a postage size lot.
I’d like to keep it under $5k, but it seems that may not be feasible with some of what I’m reading on here. Other considerations, would be, is it worth spending extra, in the event that either we find were too busy to cut the grass, and end up hiring someone (although I’m really looking forward to cutting it, it’s always been part of my dream home wishlist was to have a bigger property)? Also, our daughter is showing interest in helping cut the lawn. At this point, she’s only 10, so it’s early, but as time comes, is it easier for a young person to learn on a standard or zero turn? The standard seems simpler for them because of the steering wheel, but I also know the pedals may be hard to reach. Last but not least, on a property like I described, how much more time does a standard take, than a zero turn, to mow with?

What’s my game plan here?
New homeowner, just looking for a game plan here to try to tackle my “lawn” if you can even call it that. It is pretty mushy under my feet, probably I’m guessing from chipmunks, groundhogs, what have you. Located in Maine. Should I rent a lawn roller? Do I then aerate and lay some seed down? There’s also lots of birds where I am, which is a bit of a concern for me. Any advice appreciated

New to lawncare, pardon my ignorance. Cool season grass in PNW.
I’m looking for a power tool that is capable of detaching my grass, and (with a roller change) is capable of sweeping fallen cherries and pits off of my grass. Like a SunJoe/Greenworks dethatcher and bag that can then be used to sweep the lawn without tearing it up more.
Am I insane or does something like this actually exist? I can only seem to find one or the other function and they all have bad reviews.

I installed sod for around 500 sq ft in different areas in my law to cover bare spots. I still have 1 more big yellow bag of top soil from Super Sod. Can level the lawn with a roller? Or is it recommended to wait for a week to let the sod settle down first

We have below average draining silty clay soil normally found in Western Washington area. This spring we got some work done laying concrete patio and the lawn was compacted because of running Bob Cat skid steer in wet conditions.
I got few yards sandy soil (I think its dredged from some river or gravel pit), compost and Soil Conditioner used a hydraulic tiller to till in the amendments 6-8" deep. Now The soil is fluffy for 8-10" deep before hitting the compacted native soil.
Question is how long should we wait before laying perennial rye grass sod for the soil to settle. Should I use a drum roller to level the soil and does watering help?

Help I have a Craftsman 52’ with fuel delivery problems.
I am relying on the kindness of this group. I bought this Craftsman 52’ 917288740 and it’s a beast. I bought it a month ago and thought I checked it out pretty good, but I missed a few things.
My previous post was about fuel supply issues, where the lawnmower would suddenly stop.
I have about 4 acres with everything, hills, divots branches etc. I got one good cut 3 weeks ago. After reading all the posts from my previous rant, I started at the carb and got new fuel lines and fuel filter. When I got tot he tank I realized that the fuel line was gorilla glued into the tank and it appeared all the glue had dissolved due to a full tank. I went to my lawn mower guy 30 miles away and he was baffled and wanted me to bring it in. I can’t due to being retired.
Please help me as I am at wits end here. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Hi!
I'm a (very) fresh owner of an used John Deere 145 lawn tractor in eastern EU. It has just 614 hours on the clock but there are some things I'd like to switch out to guarantee problem free summer.
Where should I, being in the EU, order the parts?
Things like belts, rollers, steering stuff etc I assume blades are standard and I can find these on the shelf here (if I ever need) but other things seem to be either hard to find or I've heard they are on the expensive range, considering the prices in the US are very good.
Maybe there's an hidden green shop in the EU somewhere I can order from with decent prices.

I have a MTD 13AM760G500 lawn tractor with a good engine and good deck but doesn’t drive forward or backward all linkages are good The only thing I can think of left that would be wrong would be the trans axle needs to be replaced.
I also have a craftsman 994609190 serieal 061699D002214 that has a bad engine.
My plan was to either swap the transaxle from the craftsman to the mtd or the engine from the MTD TO the craftsman the mtd also has a bad deck I wanted to swap it from the craftsman over to both are 42”
My question would be are these tractors compatible like that and what should I do the axle swap or the engine swap idk
