2024.05.02 23:37 thecambridgegeek April 2024's New Fiction Podcasts

I've got what I think is a mostly exhaustive list of the new fiction podcasts that came out this month, which may be of interest to those looking for new shows. Feel free to tell me any I've missed, and I'll update it. (Note, "new" here means that the Ep1 of the RSS feed was released.) Listened to any of them that you would recommend?
I've given up trying to include the full list here, as it's increasingly large, and reddit keeps throwing excess character problems. So the full list is here:
https://audiofiction.co.uk/collections/month.php?year=2024&month=4&form_submit=Search
And the ongoing updates (just in case you don't want to wait for the end of the month) are available here:
https://www.tumblr.com/audiofictionuk
https://twitter.com/AudioDramaDebut (though I'm doing it on twitter less now, as it's got rubbish).
Want a weekly email newsletter of all of these as I find them? Join my patreon to get access to that:
https://www.patreon.com/thecambridgegeek
You can now join for free! (I will still take money, but it's not required.)
And the full database is searchable here by title:
https://audiofiction.co.uk/search.php
or a tagging system:

Having nothing better to do, I thought of composing a "comical" fugue on the theme of my well-known twinkle twinkle little star for a organ. It's not a student fugue, which means it's very free and I didn't want to follow a lot of rules so I get the best result (in my opinion)‱ however I used a lot of Bach techniques. I believe that the result was remarkable and I invite you to listen to it - even if you are not a professional or a fan of classical music.

2024.05.02 23:04 SuitableRock [OFFER] I will give you a 60 day 1200, 2000 or 2800 calorie meal plan and a fully personalized training plan for 15$

Before we get to the offer I wish to give you some background about myself - My name is Dominik, I'm a personal trainer and a nutrition consultant, as well as a powerlifter. I have been doing this with joy for over 10 years now and wish to share that knowledge further on with as many as I can. I don't find it appropriate to advertise my pages here, but for those who want proof, feel free to snoop my reddit post history.
There you can also find my previous posts here on slavelabour that were all well received, which hopefully provides some form of assurance and credibility that I respond and deliver to everybody as fast and efficiently as I can.
Now back to the topic! I'm offering three 60 day meal plan variations - a 1200, 2000 and a 2800 calorie version. Each day of the meal plans is unique and has 5 meals, so in total you're getting 300 different meal ideas - no two will be completely the same. There are no supplements in the meal plan, so there's no meals like "1 scoop of protein powder".
These plans are made of natural foods that can be found in every decently equipped grocery store, with a couple of 'cheat-ish' ones to add some extra variety. The meals won't be complicated to make, nor won't take a lot od time to prepare, and only require basic cooking and seasoning skills. Every ingredient as well as meal has its macronutrient values precisely calculated to one decimal and of course listed next to it.
There are more complex, as well as very simple meals, and due to an easy to read design it's also very simple to switch meals up if you don't like certain ones.
If you only decide to only get one of the meal plans, It's yours for 5$, file format is PDF.
I can send you a sample day, so you can get an idea on how the full meal plan will look like and to make it easier for you to decide if you'd like it or find useful.
For an additional 10$ I'll also write you a fully personalized training plan for your physique goals. We'll go through a detailed questionnaire about your current situation, lifestyle, goals, injuries to work around etc. Based on the anwsers I'll write and send you a detailed training plan within 48 hours, including;
I always respond to everyone, if you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. I'll try to respond as soon as I can, but if I don't do it right away it most likely means I'm working with my clients or it's night time here.
Cheers!

2024.05.02 23:01 abogwitchappears Has anyone ever had a parent tell them that they thought you were going to hell during your childhood?

I know everyone on this sub has probably been told they’re “going to hell” at least once, but that’s not what I’m talking about.
During a conversation, my mother (now also an ex-Christian) told me that for my entire childhood she was certain I was going to hell.
That’s 18 years. That whole time, she thought I was “bad” enough to go to hell.
I’m working through a lot of childhood trauma in therapy right now, so learning that is probably bothering me a lot more than it would any other time. But, I can’t help but feel confused, sad, and dejected.
By all accounts, I was a good kid. I had my moments like any child does, but I was terrified of getting in trouble so I rarely stepped even a toe out of line. My biggest crime was probably reading banned books (Harry Potter, other fantasy books containing magic, etc.), but other than that I can’t think of anything else I consistently did.
That’s all despite the fact that I went to church whenever I was told (very grumpily, but I was still there). I went to Christian school and only had Christian friends. I was born again (though the event was mostly an attempt to gain any attention I could after the pastor’s daughter was baptized and my mom wouldn’t stop gushing about it—but that’s a story for a different time).
I don’t know what more I could have done.
My parents both likely have Cluster B personality disorders. Within the past few years, I’ve been diagnosed with CPTSD, so I know there’s a lot more that’s feeding into this.
I feel 13 again: confused, lonely, scared, and yearning. There are countless diary entries from that time where I wrote about being god’s only mistake. I felt like I was born with a black, soot-covered soul that nothing could clean.
I’m feeling a lot like that now: like there’s something inherently wrong with me that I cannot change. I’m not a Christian anymore, don’t believe in a god (at least, not the Christian one). There’s no hell, so I’m not afraid to be sent there. I just feel very “other” compared to everyone else again, as if I’ve literally been transported back into my 13yo body/mindset.
Not sure what I’m looking for here. Maybe I just needed to vent. If you made it this far, thanks for taking the time to read it.

2024.05.02 22:58 Old-Wasabi-3837 TL;DR, I'm disabled and karate is changing my life as we speak

TL;DR, I'm disabled and karate is changing my life as we speak
I (32M) just started doing shotakan karate in the last 2 months. I have had at least 6 back surgeries in the last 5 years for various spine injuries and deformities and I also have patellar tracking disorder, which makes my knees dislocate if I move them the wrong way.
7 months ago I was having conversations with surgeons about either more surgeries or a wheelchair. I figured physical activity and sports were out of the question. I never did any physical activity as a kid because my family couldn't afford it, so I didn't figure I was missing anything. About 6 months ago I started with a physical therapist who, for the first time, took a look at my form and made adjustments.
I've done physical therapy for the better part of a decade and every PT I ever went to looked at me and thought "fat guy+bad back=weak core" and just had me do core exercises that did nothing to help my issues. This new PT watched me doing a squat and asked me why I was moving a certain way and when I told him it was to keep my knee from popping our of place, he scrapped my entire regimen and started me on a completely new set of exercises, solely focused on repairing historical muscle injuries in my glutes and low back and hips. Four months later, I was no longer having numbness, loss of strength, loss of function in my legs. I could walk for more than 40 yards without falling over. I stopped using my cane.
So about 2 months ago, I reached out to the 3 martial arts schools in my area (rural eastern KY). I wanted a physical activity for full body with a mindfulness and mental stimulation side to it. I sent all 3 the same email saying I'd always been interested in martial arts but had zero experience as an adult and asked if they had any recommendations for people with back and knee injuries. 1 responded to say they had a 6 month wait list and that people with back problems should consider a less impactful form of exercise, 1 never responded at all.
The last one responded that they had trained new adults before and they'd trained people with both back and knee injuries and could give me specific advice on how to modify movements and forms. He invited me to observe an adult class and then try a trial month at half price to see how I felt. Now it's been 2 months, I'm about to test for my yellow belt. I feel better after class, not worse, no additional pain, no resurgent numbness or weakness. The Shihan wants me to start practice sparring and think about competing this summer. He started working with me 1 on 1 for part of class 2x a week to make sure he was tracking my form and helping modify it as needed.
There's something that happens in your brain when you're disabled for a long time. The feeling that you're not in control of your body, that you're trapped in it and restricted by its limitations is suffocating and depressing. It's hard to describe:
  1. The sea change of feeling like I'm starting to have some control over my body again, to feel like I have some strength and coordination for the first time, and
  2. The humility and perspective gained by being a newbie white belt as a 32 year old with CPTSD and chronic health conditions learning the same moves and concepts as small children. You'd think it'd be embarrassing, but it's actually freeing.
So in my experience, the teacher is everything. A good teacher can work around physical and mental disability and help students use the martial art to gain confidence, skill, strength, coordination, passion, and perspective. A bad teacher can make a student with a disability feel like they were stupid to even try to better themselves in the first place.
Screenshot of a tweet that really gets it attached bc it explains it perfectly.

Low Sales (need marketing ideas)
I have a tik tok shop where I sell various bits of tech that I import, hold stock, and then sell (or even 3D print the stock), but my shop which is about 60 days old seems to be on the decline. I do make videos, but they have mixed results with no attributed video revenue. I have around 120 affiliates who have made 4 low effort no face videos (even with samples) and one affiliate who has made higher effort low performing videos... I don't know how to continue, I don't know which video to advertise and I'd love to be growing rather than backtracking
I participate in every campaign I'm invited to, with between 5-10% discount. Tik tok account and TTS is called "Palmer Tech"
Open for all and any suggestions

2024.05.02 22:50 Icy-Cow-8365 1st part of my story pls read!

My story is about a girl named vivianne that gets kidnapped and as he keeps her there she struggles with her emotions generally and romantically towards him. his motives are unclear at first but everything unravels in the end.
I could feel my body instantly relax as the door to the restaurant closed. It was just about sunset on a windy autumn day and the air was cold and crisp outside. Its actually my favorite type of weather but I couldn't pretend like my teeth weren't chattering as i tried to sneeze.
My dad was proposing to my soon to be stepmom which would sound exciting if he wasn't getting married to an absolute witch. He knows I don't support this but he didn't care. Where do I even start with her? Elizabeth.
It's almost like shes jealous of me or something, shes well in her forties yet seemingly envious of me, a 17 year old. Like one time when I came back from the hair salon and I had freshly dyed highlights in my golden brown hair. It was gorgeous, but when I walked into the door I could smell her stank face from a mile away.
My dad was standing beside her and he complimented me as usual, but she put on the fakest bitchy tone and said how "lovely" and "distinctive" it was but I could see through her act. Seriously who does she think she is, shes like a rip off kim k with double the amount of botox, and thats just the tip of the iceberg of the bad vibes I get from her. But you know who couldn't see through all that? My dad.
So now i'm here, in this dimly lit restaurant dreading the "Yes!" and fake tears that'll soon come out of that goblins mouth.
"Were here for the Lighthart reservation please." My dad tells the waitress in a tone trying to mask his excitement. I couldn't care less about dressing up for this but my dad basically forced me to at least wear a dress.
I tug on my jean jacket covering the black dress I wore as I follow my dad to the table. There were two tables put together and tons of chairs for both of our families. I'm an only child so he just invited my uncle, my grandma, and some of my cousins.
We sit down at the table and the waitress comes over to ask us our drinks. I order my favorite, a sprite. I'm sitting across from him as I look down at the menu for food.
"So, Vivi.." My dad starts, I already know whatevers about to come out of his mouth is bs but I let him finish. "I'm really nervous and I don't want anything to go wrong so just, be on your best behaviour, ok?"
"Whatever, ok." I replied while taking a sip of my sprite.
"I'm serious Vivianne, I know you aren't fond of Elizabeth but atleast respect her, for me."
"Ok dad." I mumbled. I could tell by his expression he obviously wasn't buying it but I unconsciously decided i'll give him tonight out of respect for him, not Elizabeth. I got out my phone and started scrolling instagram, I stumbled upon my friend Amy's new post. She was at a party I was supposed to be at but instead I have to be here at this stupid dinner engagement stunt.
My dad sighs and checks his watch. It was 7:21 and i was starting to physically feel the anxious waves emitting from my dad. I'm pretty sure I could see some sweat starting on his receding hairline as well. I was sure he was about to go into a full blown panic attack until suddenly I heard some small child cries from the entrance. Low and behold, The infamous Elizabeth Halt. She had on a weird style dress that reeked low quality, probably shein.
And maybe my biased judgement is the cause of this, but I sometimes get the feeling she just wants my dad's money. Were not millionaire rich, but were pretty comfy with a big two story house so I could see why she gravitates toward him so much, especially since he's gotten a promotion so he's now making a lot more.
"Hello! Harold you look so snazzy!" Elizabeth exclaimed.
My dad got up greeted her with a kiss on the cheek and gave her a a nice tight hug.
I felt something in my hair. I turn around to see a little gremlin looking boy staring back at me. Oh my god. I already hated this night.
"This is my niece, sarahbeth!" Elizabeth said. "And this is uncle frank, and granny kelly! Oh! And can't forget my little tucker! He's only 6, sorry if he's in your space." She giggled. I gave the little kid a death stare and he eventually left me alone.
My family and her family exchanged some "Nice to meet you's" and sat down. She flashed me the fakest smile in existence and then fixed her lipstick. I rolled my eyes and ate some of the bread and butter the waitress left on our table.
A couple minutes later after our menus were collected our families engaged in small talk while I tried to enjoy the restaurants scenery, it was dim and cozy and there were a few candles on the conjoined tables. We were sitting by a big window with slightly closed blinds. I could smell the potent scent of flowers coming from "granny kelly" sitting beside me, I sat at the end of the table so I didn't have to sit by two people.
The old woman looked to be around 70, but I guess it was better than sitting next to some little kid.
"Hey vivi, leave some bread for the rest of us!" Elizabeth said in a joking but totally no joking manner. She knows I hate it when she calls me that. I give her no permission to use MY nickname. I drop the bread I was eating on my plate and awkwardly laugh with the rest with them. My dad gives me a look that he knew I wanted to say something but for some reason I wanted to be subtle today, so instead I excused myself to the bathroom.
I got up from the table and grabbed my purse and phone and started navigating the restaurant. I turned a corner and when I was no longer in eye view of them I scurried out the door of the restaurant and into the parking lot. It was darker now but the sunset was still a little visible. I only would be a little while, I just needed to get out of there, the air was becoming toxic.
I walk around a bit outside and breathe in the cool air. I felt free. Sometimes I wish I could feel like this all the time instead of forced into this little box of limited choices. I just wish I could have some sort of control over my life, but at the same time I want to just let go and let life run it's course but my dad ruins that for me.
I was 7 when my mom died. I don't remember much, probably from the trauma my brain is hiding from. The images are blurry but I recall my dad in the living room when he got the news, his face was filled with pure agony. My mom died of a rare cancer that she got diagnosed with 8 months prior. I was obviously pretty oblivious of the details at my young age but my dad filled in the gaps as I matured.
I know her death affected him more then it does me, which is why it took 6 years for him to find the courage to date again. and 3 years later, he's proposing.
I check the time on my phone, 8:13 pm, my dad would be disappointed if i missed the "big question" so I turn around and start walking back to the entrance.
I feel strong a gust of wind that almost knocked me off my feet but I rebalance my self quickly. Suddenly my eye starts feeling like something got blown in it so I stop in my tracks and try to open my phone camera to look in it.
"Fuck" I curse under my breath, as I rub my eye, silently panicking. It felt like a hair or piece of dirt was in my eye and it was scratching it roughly. I couldnt see shit so I had to manually type my password in and find the camera app.
I finally find the camera and as I peel open my eye and hold it up, everything falls dark. The last thing i remember being a dark figure behind me in the camera frame.

2024.05.02 22:45 Nyanpireeee I feel lied to about hard work paying off. Tw vent

Everyone tells me “just work harder” “do more and you’ll be happy.” “You’re sad? You’re not working hard enough.”
But I’ve been working harder than ever before and I’m just as if not more miserable.
I got straight As. Every single class. I don’t feel smart or proud or accomplished. My parents don’t seem proud. I don’t even want a traditional career so it feels pointless. I mean. The work is easy asf but the amount of it is beyond tiring. If anything they’re nicer to my brother with straight Ds who they drop 1000$s on. So the As don’t seem to have any positive effect outside of not being constantly punished and banned from going out. Nobody says they’re “proud of me”. Maybe it’s because they expect it from me as the older sister. While he’s the baby of the family.
I got the job I wanted. Now I have no time off because I work all weekend. Yeah, it pays well. But I have no energy to enjoy the extra $ or do anything fun w it like go to the mall. I just sleep with my free time.
I started the gym. My antidepressants have caused weight gain and really stunted my progress. Legs are jacked but I’ve hardly made a dent in my waist despite that being half of my workout and 90% of the post workout pain. I lowered my dose and I’m finally losing weight but at the price of my emotional stability. I mean- I’m less apathetic which is nice. I actually feel like socializing could maybe be worth a try because I don’t feel complete apathy to it but I’m also more unstable than I was a month ago. I sob my eyes out nearly everyday. Been trying to eat better but now I just feel extreme guilt everytime I eat anything that’s not salad. I hate my body more than ever before and this was supposed to make me “feel confident” according to my parents. It also makes me hungrier and hungrier and my self control has somehow gotten worse the more I try. I end up binging.
I started the guitar like I wanted. I mean I’m improving but slowly asf because I don’t have time to practice outside of my weekly lesson. I could make time if I didn’t need 14 hours of sleep to feel halfway decent.
I cleaned my terrible depression room that looked like a pig Pen. I mean it’s spotless. Temporarily satisfied but it’s not like I have friends to invite over so it doesn’t really matter. I lost them all when I had a friend scream and spit on me because my online friend made one rude joke. I apologized profusely but when they basically said I needed to fix my meds if being screamed at made me cry I couldn’t see them the same anymore. And I no longer have a desire to make friends after that.
I’ve gotten better at driving and could probably get my license if I wanted but I have terrible anxiety on the road which kills my desire to. My parents have started to put a lot of pressure on me regarding it.
All of my electronics are taken away if I take one sick day as result of the constant exhaustion. Or if I even dare to cry before school because it “gives them anxiety”
I’m doing everything I was told and I’m not happy. Why? :(( I’m trying SO hard. Despite everything in me wanting to give up. I’m so tired it’s getting to the point I forget to shower and take care of myself. Which says a lot given I have severe contamination ocd and hate germs. Straight As, Gym, Guitar, working every weekend, trying therapy, and it’s just not working.

2024.05.02 22:45 60626_LOVE Is it tacky to not be forthcoming on a b-day party invite when guests are supposed to pay for their own meal?

A friend is telling me I'm wrong, so now I'm questioning my own thoughts on this matter. My friend, Tammy, is throwing herself a 50th b-day celebration. My husband and I are going, and I looked up the venue. It's a banquet-type place that also has an on-site restaurant. I assumed she'd rented a room. So I texted my friend Bev, who is much closer to Tammy than I am (I know Tammy only from Bev being our mutual friend), to ask her if she knew if the party was lite bites or a full meal so we could plan our eating accordingly. Bev then let me know it's at the restaurant, and everyone is paying for themselves. I don't mind this, but I think it's super tacky not to tell people on the invite that people are paying for their own meal. I texted a friend who doesn't know Bev or Tammy personally to ask what she thought, and she feels very strongly that I'm wrong, and it's "stupid" to assume there would be free eats of any kind.
I've been really wondering about this, and I decided to post this here because today, a totally different friend invited me to an anniversary dinner at a restaurant, and she said, "There will be gift bags, but you will be required to pay for your own meal and drinks." Thank you in advance to anyone who gives me their two cents on this topic!

2024.05.02 22:44 jd957795 29 years later and still a bit haunted by memories how I was treated by my old high school teachers and councilor.

A fast back story in the 3rd grade I was failing bad, so they decided to put me in L.D. classes. They did not do any test to see if I had a learning disability, I did have a bad speech problem but was taking speech therapy for that. This was the late 80's and schools did what they wanted to do, and not once did they think maybe I was just bored because the work was too easy for me. I was bullied from the time they put me into the LD class in the 3rd grade not just by students but by some of the "cool" staff to the time I graduated in 1995.
A few of incidents that I remember well happened when I was in high school, and to some bit they still haunt me. When I was a freshman, I played basketball we were at practice and were doing sprints. We had to do them under 20 seconds from baseline to baseline. Well, I always came in last because at the time I was big, and not athletic. I somehow beat a few of the players and was happy I did it, then coach yelled, "Line up how the hell did you let JD beat you guys"! That crushed me to the core, and I wanted just to take his whistle and shove it down his throat.
The following year I was at another practice and the other coach decided to cut me in front of the whole team. I was the only one that he cut, and they did even have enough players. To make it worse he was also my driving instructor for drivers ED. My parents knew what was going on and called the school on how the teachers were treating me and how lot of the kids were treating me. They did nothing, then the Athletic Director and the Coach called and challenged my dad to a fight, the problem was they did not realize who my dad was and how he was very well protected by the cops. By that I mean we had police at my house almost every day hanging out talking to my dad and having coffee. They intervened on his behalf and the bullying from the staff and students stopped.
The last incident is one that was the worse one ever, it was my senior year and time to have the school counselor help the students decide which college or trade might be the best for you. He called all my classmates in one by one, but he never called me in. I thought maybe he just forgot so I knocked on his door and asked why he never called me in. He pulled up my file and said I hate to tell you, but I don't think you would even be able hold a job at McDonalds. I do not know if you have the mental capacity. You should be happy you just are graduating and getting a diploma from high school.
From the age of 18-32 years, I let define me, that I was too stupid, to do anything. I became got into partying extremely bad, and driving as fast hoping I might die. It got so bad my dad moved us from around St. Louis back to his hometown in Indiana. I married the wrong girl, who stayed married to me for 6 weeks, enough time to drain my bank account. Then she ran off and I did not know where she was for a year. My attorney found her with a baby, which was mine. Now my daughter who is 23 have always been very close, and I mostly raised her when she was in high school. I lost friends because I acted immature, trying to prove I was not dumb. I worked as a volunteer youth pastor at a church but made people mad again by thinking people were thinking I was stupid. Then at age of 32 I changed all of that and took my life back.
At 32 I decided give college a try and went to a 2-year college figured if anything I would get some spending money from grants. The thing was I made straight A's and got my associate degree in human service. I then decided to go to Indiana State and majored in Research and Clinical Psychology. I graduated with my bachelor's with a 3.8 gpa.
I was going to go to either med school, or graduates' school, but I came down with a disabling disorder that put me on disability 5 years ago. Which has sort been a good thing because my dad passed away and my mom is 86 years old, and he asked me to look out over her. I do hope though one day soon that I can go back to work. I do not think I am too old to start a career at 47. It has not all been perfect when my dad passed, I got extremely depressed and got hooked on pain killers that doctor prescribed. Plus joined a Church of Christ and they isolated me from my family. Yet now I have been clean going on 6 years and left that cult church a year ago. Actually, back at the church I volunteered as a youth pastor all those years ago, with my actual family.

2024.05.02 22:44 Jdlongmire Temporal Asymmetry: Synthesizing Old and Young Creationism

This essay introduces a framework called "temporal asymmetry" to reconcile the apparent discrepancy between the biblical account of a young creation and the scientific evidence for an ancient universe. This framework proposes that from an Earth-based observer's perspective and using Earth standard time, the universe appears to have a genuinely old history spanning billions of years. However, this does not conflict with the idea that from the Creator's eternal, transcendent point of view, the entire cosmos was brought into existence in a literal six-day period.
Key points:
  1. Biblical texts suggest that God experiences time differently than humans, transcending our Earth-based perception of time (e.g., Psalm 90:4, 2 Peter 3:8).
  2. Scientific theories like relativity show that time is relative to the observer's frame of reference, which in our case, is an Earth-based perspective using Earth standard time.
  3. The temporal asymmetry model suggests that while we, as Earth-bound observers, perceive a universe with a truly ancient history, this is fully compatible with the idea of a recent creation from God's eternal vantage point.
  4. This framework takes scientific evidence for an old universe seriously while maintaining the truthfulness of the biblical creation and Flood accounts.
  5. Objections to this model, such as the appearance of age or ad hoc reasoning, are considered and found to be unpersuasive.
The essay concludes by emphasizing the importance of humility, reverence, and openness to mystery when exploring the complex relationship between science and faith. It acknowledges God's transcendence and sovereignty over time and creation, highlighting that from our Earth-based perspective using Earth standard time, we can affirm the genuine antiquity of the cosmos while simultaneously recognizing the validity of the biblical account of a recent creation from God's eternal point of view.
Introduction
The age of the earth and universe has long been a point of tension between biblical literalists who affirm a young creation based on the Genesis account and mainstream scientists who see compelling evidence for an ancient cosmos spanning billions of years. This treatise proposes a conceptual framework for reconciling these divergent perspectives by appealing to the concept of temporal asymmetry—the idea that time can be experienced differently from different frames of reference. By exploring how a transcendent Creator might experience time in a radically different way than creatures embedded within space-time, and by examining scientific evidence and biblical accounts that lend support to this idea, we can begin to see how both a young and old creation might be simultaneously true from different vantage points.
Biblical Foundations: Creation, Flood, and Divine Temporality
The starting point for this reconciliation is the biblical testimony itself. Genesis 1-2 describes God creating the heavens and earth, along with all their inhabitants, in six literal days, culminating in the Sabbath rest on the seventh day. This orderly, structured creation week strongly implies that these were normal solar days as experienced by earthly observers. The genealogies and chronologies found throughout the Old Testament further reinforce the impression of a relatively recent creation, spanning only a few thousand years.
The Bible presents God as the sovereign Creator, bringing the universe into existence by His word and wisdom. In our modern age, it's fitting to think of Him as the Master Programmer or Cosmic Engineer, designing the laws, constants, and structures that govern the cosmos with perfect precision.
According to Genesis 1, God's "deployment" of the Creation program took place over six literal days. On Day 1, He brought forth the foundational components - space, matter, light, and time. Day 2 saw the formation of Earth's atmosphere, while Day 3 involved the emergence of dry land and vegetation.
The fourth day marked a pivotal stage in Creation. God spoke the Sun, Moon, and stars into existence ex nihilo, just as He did in days 1-3 - a direct manifestation of His omnipotence. However, rather than simply having them "wink" into being instantaneously, God appears to have utilized an accelerated process to "construct" these celestial bodies and "fast-forward" their development.
In a sense, God ran a "rapid simulation" of cosmic evolution, compressing billions of years' worth of stellar formation, nuclear fusion, and planetary accretion into a single 24-hour period. This dramatically sped-up process would have produced a universe with a coherent "virtual history" - including light trails suggesting vast distances, radioactive isotope ratios implying ancient ages, and cosmic background radiation pointing to a primordial "Big Bang.
Importantly, this "appearance of age" would not be a deceptive trick, but a purposeful design feature. It would grant the universe a realistic "backstory," providing a credible cosmic context for Earth's existence. It would also showcase God's ability to craft a cosmos of immense size and precision, with countless stars and galaxies fine-tuned to support life.
Moreover, by front-loading the universe with a "virtual history," God would be endowing it with vast potential for future development, setting the stage for billions of years' worth of stellar and biological evolution to unfold within stable, pre-designed parameters.
On Days 5 and 6, God filled the Earth with living creatures, each programmed to reproduce after its kind, with rich genetic potential for adaptive variation. The creation of mankind in God's image marked the climax of His creative work, which He declared "very good" - an elegant, error-free system, perfectly aligned with His intentions.
Viewing Day 4 as involving a "rapid formation process" offers a robust integration of the biblical Creation account with scientific evidence for an ancient universe. It affirms that God created the heavens and the Earth supernaturally and recently, while still accounting for the apparent age of the cosmos from our finite perspective.
Through this lens, scientific research becomes a means of "reverse engineering" the universe, uncovering the sophisticated algorithms and subroutines God employed in constructing the heavens and the Earth. Each discovery of a finely tuned constant or elegantly balanced force points to the ingenuity of the Creator, the Master Developer behind the cosmic code.
Ultimately, the concept of God utilizing an accelerated formation process on Day 4, while still creating ex nihilo, provides a compelling synthesis of the biblical doctrine of Creation with the scientific evidence for a universe spanning billions of years. It magnifies God's wisdom, power, and artistry, inviting us to marvel at the work of His hands. As we probe the depths of the cosmos, we are not merely analyzing inanimate matter and energy, but encountering the handiwork of the living God, in whom all things hold together.
Additionally, the account of the global Flood in Genesis 6-9 describes a cataclysmic event that reshaped the earth's surface and destroyed all terrestrial life outside the ark. The Flood is presented as a real historical event that left observable traces in the geological record, such as the deposition of vast sedimentary layers and the burial of innumerable organisms as fossils.
Modern scientific observations of the geological record provide compelling evidence for an earth that is approximately 4.5 billion years old. Radiometric dating techniques, the analysis of sedimentary layers, and the study of fossil succession all point to a planet with a vast and ancient history. At the same time, some scientific discoveries, such as the presence of DNA in fossilized dinosaur bones and the existence of polystrate fossils, seem to challenge the conventional old-earth paradigm and lend support to a young-earth perspective. This apparent discrepancy can be reconciled by appealing to the concept of temporal asymmetry, which suggests that time can flow at different rates from different frames of reference. By proposing that the historical observers of Earth's past, particularly during the biblical Flood event, experienced time at a different pace than the geological processes shaping the planet, we can begin to understand how the earth can be both "young" from a biblical perspective and "old" from a scientific perspective.
To illustrate this concept, let us engage in a thought experiment. Imagine that during the cataclysmic events of the global Flood described in Genesis, the inorganic components of the earth underwent a period of vastly accelerated change. From the perspective of an indestructible, immortal observer standing on the ocean floor, time would appear to move at its normal pace, and all the standard measurement systems used by modern science would still apply. However, from the vantage point of someone on the water's surface, the geological processes below would be unfolding at a breathtaking speed, like watching a time-lapse video in fast forward.
In this scenario, the geological aging of the earth would proceed according to the predictions of naturalistic models, but it would be compressed into a much shorter timeframe as experienced by the surface-dwelling observers. Millions of years' worth of sedimentary deposition, tectonic activity, and erosion could have occurred within the confines of the Flood year, as the inorganic earth was supernaturally accelerated to accomplish God's judgments.
One key aspect of this model is that organic material, such as living creatures and their remains, would not have been subjected to the same accelerated time flow as the inorganic components of the earth. This explains why we might find relatively intact biomolecules, such as DNA fragments, in fossils that are purportedly millions of years old based on the geological strata in which they are found. If the fossils were formed during the Flood event, when the organic remains were buried rapidly and the surrounding inorganic material was aged at an accelerated rate, it is conceivable that traces of original biological material could have survived to the present day.
Similarly, the existence of polystrate fossils, which extend through multiple sedimentary layers that are conventionally interpreted as having been deposited over long ages, becomes more explicable if those layers were laid down in rapid succession during the Flood. The organic remains would have been preserved in their original orientation as the inorganic sediments were compressed and aged around them.
Acknowledging the Supernatural
Naturalistic scientists will undoubtedly reject this scenario out of hand, as it invokes supernatural intervention in the natural world. From their perspective, any appeal to divine action is inherently unscientific and untestable. They will seek to explain away anomalies like dinosaur DNA or polystrate fossils through purely naturalistic means, even if those explanations strain credulity or require ad hoc assumptions.
However, for those who are open to the possibility of a Creator God who can act in ways that transcend the ordinary laws of nature, the idea of supernaturally accelerated geological processes becomes a viable option. If God is the author of time itself, then He is not bound by the uniform flow of time that we experience as creatures within the universe. He could easily manipulate the relative rates of temporal progression for organic and inorganic matter to accomplish His purposes, such as executing judgment on a sinful world through the Flood while preserving the remnant of life on the ark.
Interestingly, the concept of accelerated geological processes is not entirely foreign to naturalistic scientific models. Many simulations of Earth's history, such as those used to study plate tectonics or climate change, rely on compressed timescales to make the computations more manageable. These models do not attempt to replicate the full 4.5 billion years of Earth's history in real-time, but instead, artificially accelerate the relevant processes to simulate long ages within a shorter span of model time.
From a certain perspective, these simulations can be seen as analogous to the biblical view of Earth's history, where the vast ages inferred from the geological record are compressed into a much shorter timeframe as experienced by human observers. The key difference is that naturalistic models attribute the acceleration to the limitations of human computing power, while the biblical view attributes it to the sovereign power of the Creator.
The framework of temporal asymmetry provides a conceptual tool for reconciling the apparent discrepancy between the vast age of the earth inferred from the geological record and the much younger age suggested by a literal reading of biblical chronology. By proposing that the inorganic components of the earth underwent a period of supernaturally accelerated aging during the events of the global Flood, we can begin to understand how millions of years' worth of geological processes could have unfolded within the confines of a single year as experienced by the earth's inhabitants.
Ultimately, the temporal asymmetry view requires an openness to supernatural intervention in the natural world and a willingness to subordinate human reason to divine revelation. It challenges us to recognize the limitations of our creaturely perspective and to embrace the mystery and majesty of a God who transcends the very fabric of space and time. As we seek to unravel the complex history of our planet and the universe beyond, may we do so with humility, reverence, and a deep sense of awe at the eternal power and wisdom of the One who spoke all things into existence.
Biblical Evidence for Temporal Asymmetry
Intriguingly, the Bible also contains passages that suggest a more complex relationship between God and time. In Psalm 90:4, Moses declares, "For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it passes by, or as a watch in the night." This verse implies that God's perception of time is radically different from our own, with a thousand years passing like a mere day from His eternal perspective. Similarly, the Apostle Peter writes, "With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day" (2 Peter 3:8). These passages hint at a profound temporal asymmetry between the Creator and His creation.
Another compelling biblical example of God's ability to manipulate time is found in the account of Joshua's long day (Joshua 10:12-14). During a battle against the Amorites, Joshua prayed for the sun and moon to stand still, and God miraculously prolonged the day to allow the Israelites to achieve victory. This event suggests that God can supernaturally alter the flow of time in a localized way, causing the sun to remain in the sky from an earthly perspective while time continues to pass normally on a cosmic scale.
Scientific Evidence for Temporal Asymmetry
The concept of temporal asymmetry finds support not only in biblical passages but also in certain scientific theories and observations. Einstein's theories of special and general relativity demonstrate that time is not an absolute constant but can dilate or contract depending on relative velocity and the presence of mass-energy. Clocks tick at different rates for observers in different reference frames, a phenomenon that has been confirmed through precise experiments with atomic clocks.
In the extreme environment near a black hole, gravitational time dilation becomes so severe that an outside observer would see time coming to a virtual standstill for someone falling into the event horizon. This extreme example illustrates the principle that time can flow at vastly different rates depending on the gravitational context.
Recent discoveries in quantum physics have further challenged our intuitive notions of time as a linear, unidirectional flow. Experiments with entangled particles have demonstrated apparent violations of temporal causality, with measurements on one particle instantaneously influencing the state of its entangled partner, regardless of the distance between them. Some interpretations of quantum mechanics, such as the retrocausal and transactional models, suggest that influences can propagate backward in time, blurring the distinction between past, present, and future.
While these scientific theories and observations do not directly prove the kind of radical temporal asymmetry proposed in the biblical creation account, they do challenge our conventional assumptions about the nature of time and open up conceptual space for considering more expansive possibilities. If time can be relative, variable, and even bi-directional within the constraints of known physical laws, then it seems plausible that a transcendent Creator, unconstrained by the limitations of space-time, could experience and manipulate time in ways that far surpass our current scientific understanding.
Theological Implications and Potential Objections
This proposed reconciliation of a young and old creation through temporal asymmetry has several important theological implications. First and foremost, it preserves the truthfulness and authority of the biblical creation, Flood, and long day accounts, taking seriously their historical and theological claims without reducing them to mere mythology or symbolism. It affirms that the universe is the purposeful handiwork of a personal, transcendent Creator who can supernaturally intervene in the fabric of space-time.
At the same time, this model challenges us to expand our understanding of God's relationship to time and to embrace a greater sense of epistemic humility. It reminds us that our creaturely experience of time is not absolute but relative to our finite, embedded perspective within the cosmos. It calls us to worship a God whose ways are higher than our ways and whose thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:9), even as we seek to understand His self-revelation in nature and Scripture.
Of course, this model is not without its limitations and potential objections. Some may argue that it involves a measure of phenomenological language or apparent age in the creation, which could be seen as incompatible with God's perfect truthfulness. Others may object that it is too speculative or ad hoc, going beyond the plain meaning of the biblical text in an attempt to accommodate modern scientific paradigms. Still others may feel that it grants too much validity to conventional old-earth dating methods and does not sufficiently critique their underlying assumptions.
However, the objections raised against the proposed model of reconciling a young and old creation through temporal asymmetry are ultimately unfounded and fail to appreciate the explanatory power and theological coherence of this framework.
Firstly, the claim that this model involves phenomenological language or apparent age in creation, which could be seen as incompatible with God's perfect truthfulness, is misguided. The framework of temporal asymmetry does not suggest that God created the universe with a mere appearance of age, but rather that He created a genuinely ancient cosmos in a condensed timeframe from His eternal perspective. The antiquity of the universe is real, not illusory, and is a testament to God's omnipotence and transcendence over time itself. God is not deceiving us by creating a universe that bears the marks of a lengthy history; He is showcasing His ability to craft a cosmos of immense complexity and depth in a manner that defies our temporal limitations.
Moreover, Scripture itself affirms that God's relationship to time is radically different from our own. Passages like Psalm 90:4 and 2 Peter 3:8 reveal that God's experience of time is not constrained by the linear, unidirectional flow that we perceive. The Bible presents a God who is eternal, unchanging, and sovereign over the very fabric of space-time. It is entirely consistent with the biblical portrayal of God's nature to suggest that He could create a universe with a genuine history spanning billions of years from our perspective, while simultaneously accomplishing this work in a literal six-day period from His own perspective.
Secondly, the objection that this model is too speculative or ad hoc, going beyond the plain meaning of the biblical text to accommodate modern scientific paradigms, is unfair. The framework of temporal asymmetry is not a desperate attempt to force the Bible to conform to contemporary scientific theories, but rather a principled effort to take both biblical revelation and empirical evidence seriously. The model is rooted in a careful exegesis of relevant biblical passages, such as the creation account in Genesis, the Flood narrative, and texts that speak to God's eternal nature and His sovereignty over time. It also draws upon well-established scientific observations, such as the relativistic nature of time and the evidence for an ancient universe, to formulate a coherent and compelling synthesis.
Furthermore, the charge of being ad hoc or speculative could be leveled against any attempt to reconcile biblical and scientific perspectives on origins. The very endeavor of harmonizing ancient religious texts with modern scientific discoveries necessarily involves a degree of extrapolation and interpretation. The framework of temporal asymmetry is no more speculative than other proposed solutions, such as the day-age theory or the framework hypothesis, and in fact has the advantage of preserving a more straightforward reading of the biblical text while still engaging meaningfully with scientific evidence.
Finally, the criticism that this model grants too much validity to conventional old-earth dating methods and fails to sufficiently critique their underlying assumptions is misplaced. The temporal asymmetry framework does not uncritically accept all the claims of modern scientific dating techniques, but rather acknowledges the substantial empirical evidence for an ancient universe while offering a fresh perspective on how this antiquity can be reconciled with the biblical account of a recent creation. The model encourages a critical evaluation of the assumptions underlying radiometric dating methods and other techniques, recognizing that they are based on extrapolations of present-day processes into the distant past and may not account for the possibility of supernatural intervention or alternative interpretations of the data.
At the same time, the temporal asymmetry framework provides a robust explanation for why scientific dating methods consistently point to an ancient universe. If God did indeed create a cosmos with a genuine antiquity from our temporal perspective, then it is entirely expected that empirical investigations would uncover evidence of this ancient history. The model thus engages constructively with the findings of mainstream science while still maintaining a commitment to the truthfulness and authority of Scripture.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the framework of temporal asymmetry, supported by both biblical passages and scientific observations, provides a thought-provoking way to conceptually reconcile the affirmations of a recent, six-day creation and global Flood with the evidence for an ancient earth and universe. By recognizing the radical difference between the Creator's experience of time and our own creaturely perspective, we can begin to see how both a young and old creation might be simultaneously true from different vantage points.
This model challenges us to engage seriously with the anomalies and evidential tensions within conventional dating paradigms, even as it expands our understanding of God's transcendence and mystery. It seeks to be faithful to the truth of God's self-revelation in both Scripture and nature while acknowledging the inherent limitations and challenges of harmonizing these distinct modes of divine discourse.
The objections raised against the framework of temporal asymmetry are ultimately unpersuasive. This model offers a compelling and biblically faithful way to reconcile the apparent discrepancies between the scriptural account of creation and the scientific evidence for an ancient universe. By recognizing the radical asymmetry between God's eternal perspective and our own limited, temporal vantage point, we can affirm the genuine antiquity of the cosmos while still upholding the literal truth of the Genesis creation account. The framework of temporal asymmetry thus represents a promising approach to resolving one of the most persistent and contentious debates in the relationship between science and faith.
Ultimately, the goal of this reconciliation is to stimulate further reflection, dialogue, and reverent wonder in our exploration of the manifold mysteries of creation. As we pursue truth in both science and theology, may we do so with humility, recognizing the incomparable wisdom and power of the eternal, transcendent Creator who has graciously granted us the ability to study His handiwork. Let us approach these profound questions with a spirit of worship, marveling at the God who transcends time and space, and yet who is intimately present in every moment of our lives.
Addendum: A Framework of Progressive Revelation for Reconciling a Young and Old Creation
The concept of progressive revelation, which holds that God has gradually unveiled His truth and purposes to humanity over time, provides a helpful framework for understanding the apparent discrepancies between the biblical account of creation and the scientific evidence for an ancient universe. By recognizing that divine revelation is an ongoing process, with later revelations building upon and clarifying earlier ones, we can begin to see how the temporal asymmetry model for reconciling a young and old creation fits within the larger context of God's unfolding self-disclosure.
  1. The Accommodation of Ancient Cosmology
The early chapters of Genesis were written in a cultural context where the prevailing understanding of the cosmos was vastly different from our modern scientific perspective. The biblical authors, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, communicated divine truth in a way that was accessible and meaningful to their original audience, using the language and concepts of their time. This accommodation to ancient Near Eastern cosmology does not undermine the theological and spiritual truths conveyed by the creation account, but it does suggest that we should be cautious about interpreting it as a scientifically precise description of the universe's origins.
  1. The Focus on Theological Truths
The primary purpose of the Genesis creation narrative is to reveal fundamental theological truths about God's nature, character, and relationship to His creation. It affirms that the universe is the purposeful handiwork of a sovereign, all-powerful Creator, who brought order and beauty out of chaos and who created human beings in His own image to serve as stewards of the earth. These truths are not dependent on a particular scientific understanding of the universe's age or the specific mechanisms of creation. They transcend the limitations of human knowledge and remain valid regardless of our evolving scientific insights.
  1. The Principle of Accommodation
Throughout Scripture, we see examples of God accommodating His revelation to the limitations of human understanding and cultural contexts. Jesus Himself acknowledged this principle when He told His disciples, "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now" (John 16:12). The apostle Paul also recognized that our present knowledge is partial and incomplete, and that we see only dimly as in a mirror (1 Corinthians 13:9-12). This suggests that God's revelation to us is not exhaustive or absolute, but is tailored to our capacity to understand and respond to it at different stages of redemptive history.
  1. The Analogy of Galileo and Heliocentrism
The tension between the biblical account of creation and modern scientific discoveries is not unprecedented in church history. In the 17th century, Galileo Galilei faced opposition from the Catholic Church for his support of the heliocentric model of the solar system, which seemed to contradict biblical passages that speak of the sun rising and setting or the earth being fixed and immovable (e.g., Psalm 93:1; Ecclesiastes 1:5). However, as scientific evidence for heliocentrism accumulated, the church gradually came to recognize that these biblical texts were not intended to teach scientific cosmology, but rather to affirm God's sovereignty and faithfulness using the language and concepts of their time. Similarly, as we grapple with the evidence for an ancient universe, we may need to reevaluate our interpretation of the creation account in light of later scientific revelations, while still upholding the essential theological truths it communicates.
  1. The Harmony of God's Two Books
The principle of progressive revelation suggests that God has disclosed Himself and His truth not only through the written words of Scripture but also through the natural world, which the psalmist declares to be "telling of the glory of God" (Psalm 19:1). As scientific discoveries shed new light on the structure and history of the universe, they can deepen our understanding and appreciation of the Creator's wisdom, power, and grandeur. The apparent discrepancies between scientific findings and traditional interpretations of Scripture may actually be an invitation to seek a higher synthesis that does justice to both divine revelation and human reason.
  1. The Temporal Asymmetry Model as a Faithful Synthesis
The model of temporal asymmetry, which proposes that God could have created a genuinely ancient universe from our perspective while completing His work in six literal days from His own eternal vantage point, represents a faithful attempt to synthesize the biblical testimony with the scientific evidence for an old cosmos. By recognizing that God's experience of time is not limited to our creaturely perspective, this model affirms the truthfulness of Scripture while also taking seriously the empirical findings of modern science. It challenges us to expand our understanding of divine temporality and to embrace the mystery and majesty of a God who transcends the very fabric of space and time.
  1. The Call to Humility and Wonder
Ultimately, the framework of progressive revelation reminds us to approach the question of the universe's origins with a spirit of humility, reverence, and openness to further divine illumination. As we seek to harmonize biblical truth with scientific discovery, we must acknowledge the limitations of our own understanding and the possibility that future revelations may shed new light on this complex issue. Rather than clinging dogmatically to a particular interpretation or model, we are called to stand in awe of the eternal, transcendent Creator who has revealed Himself in the pages of Scripture and in the marvels of His creation. As we continue to explore the mysteries of the universe, may we do so with a posture of worship, trust, and anticipation, knowing that the God who has spoken in ages past is still speaking to us today, inviting us to behold His glory and to join in His cosmic purposes.

2024.05.02 22:39 West-Weakness-753 Are these normal interview questions?

This happened about a year ago, but I am still wondering what the point was for the interview questions. This was an in-person interview for a receptionist job at an insurance agency. Please let me know if I'm just dumb, or if there's a valid reason for these. Obviously, I did not get the job, which I am now thankful for, but I still want to know!
-What do you like to do in your free time
-Asked about last vacation, why, where, what kind of hotel, specifics, etc
-Asked when I was invited somewhere where I knew no one and how I handled it
-Asked why I went through a temp agency with my last job instead of the company.
-I don't remember the question, but ended up being asked why there were trials in my life and how it effected me, which led to being asked how a stressful personal situation caused the trials of less income due to less work from the stress.
This last one really caught me off guard, and I wish I would not have answered it. It felt too personal and she pushed me to answer all of these questions.

2024.05.02 22:33 NationalChamps2015 Sportsbook Review: Mandalay Bay Las Vegas - A solid spot at the end of the strip

Needed to do a status match in Vegas Caesars Diamond to Wynn Platinum to Fontainebleau Gold. This was successful BTW. So I booked a cheap Frontier airlines flight, got a $7 room at Harrah's and booked a Sunday night trip. To my delight, a person I do business with was also in town and had his expense account open, and invited me down to the end of the strip where he was staying at Mandalay Bay.
Mandalay Bay Overview
Came down to the book around 5:00pm on a Sunday. NBA and NHL playoffs were going on, as well as Cubs vs. Redsox Sunday night baseball and some harness horse and quarter horse tracks.
Book is huge. One of the throwback books you used to see in Vegas back in the 90's. Plenty of comfortable seating everywhere and probably 1/4 full. A bar sat right near the back of it. Older TV's flanked the front of the book providing a good view from anywhere.
Mandalay Bay sits on the south end of the strip. Attached to The Delano and Luxor. You can also get to Excalibur via the walk way. There is a tram that I found pretty useless that takes you down to Excalibur. A negative of this hotel is its proximity to the heart of the strip. The pros are this is within walking distance of Allegiant Stadium and a 25-30 minute walk to T-mobile arena.
A good overview of the sportsbook. This is from the very back. As you can see plenty of free seating and a very good view of the TV's
Sportsbook Review
The sportsbook offered all the current odds MGM has to offer. Had every possible NBA, MLB and NHL game as well as horse racing.
Good selection of people hanging out, from Suns fans to Nuggets ones. I was the only person actively placing Horse bets.
Tellers were super friendly. They welcomed the business and explained drink ticket rules. Every $100 on sports gets you a drink ticket, every $20 on horses got you one. They weren't exactly giving these out like candy like Harrah's was, but they would gladly give me them one at a time.
View of the other side of the book
Drinks and Food
Not the good ole days, but the drink tickets were handed out the bar selection was great. A drink ticket basically got me any bourbon they had at the bar. I went with Knob Creek 9 year over Makers Mark, Four Roses and Jim Beam. Buddy of mine got a White Russian without any problem
Drink tickets weren't impossible to come by
Bar was a cool spot to roll up to and watch the games from
On the food side we went to Flanker Kitchen + Sports Bar which is pretty much the closest dining option. It was overall meh. Cool place. But expensive prices on food for what it was. I'd much rather try elsewhere next time.
Smash burger is fine, but not worth the $30+ they charged
Menu with pricing
Overall
A very fun place to watch a game. Everyone was nice. Plenty of comfortable free seating. Can't beat it. Would definitely be next level if they add new LED screens which would place it towards the top of the list in Vegas. But this is how sportsbook on the strip should be. Approachable for a group of friends wanting to gamble and drink.
It would have been wrong of me to stay at Harrah's and not provide a pic of my favorite sportsbook.
Had a few drinks at the Harrah's book, my favorite overall spot to watch sports in Vegas

I may have been out of my car when the device beeped and went through one cycle but I always got in there and caught it before the timer ran out I was not aware this was a violation it was never informed I'm at a loss is what to do now because seeing from all the other horror stories they're trying to keep me locked in.

2024.05.02 22:30 Longjumping-Style-72 Am I 26/M in the wrong for wanting to cut contact with my dad 40/M?

CW for Child abuse
My dad (40s??) and I (26NB) have never been close. He didn’t know about me until I was 4 and didn’t meet me until I was 12. When he met me, he already had a fiance (R) and a stepson (B) I had a really horrible childhood, my mother has BPD and CPTSD and I was a teen pregnancy. She was horribly abusive, and still is. I’ve gone no contact with her since she tried to tell me I should let her and my husband conceive a baby (this was in response to me mentioning wanting a surrogate. She genuinely thought it was a good idea since “it would be free that way”) She had no support and my only saving grace was her boyfriend. He left her eventually due to the abuse, and for a while he kept in touch with me but eventually that stopped too. I have two younger brothers who I raised basically alone, as my mom was often out at bars or working, but was kicked out at 16. Before I was officially kicked out, there was an incident in which she struck me with a spatula and there was court and police and it was really bad. I wasn’t allowed to see her for 7 months. During that time I stayed with my dad. I barely knew him, and he had (since apparently wanting to include me in his life) moved into an other apartment to accommodate his growing family, but didn’t have a room for me. So for those 7 months I shared a room with my 11 year old step brother. I told him I didn’t want to live with him anymore, so he brought me to live with my boyfriend at the time (32m. I was 17) We didn’t talk for almost a decade after that. I tried to reach out to my step mom, but we never managed to make a plan. I did have dinner with him once about 6 years ago so he could meet my fiance (now husband) Well last December I was in a bad place. I had moved in with family to help them out not realizing why the rest of my family had left them out to dry. They were horribly abusive, and have since lost custody of their kids. I left for obvious reasons, but during one of the darkest points while living there I tried to call my dad because I needed a parent. He met up with me under the plan to have dinner, but just drove around and then got new school supplies for my little siblings. He offered to help me move as long as I pay him back. I found a new place, sent it to him, and asked if we could meet to talk about borrowing moving costs. He never got back to me so I just saved it all myself. It’s fine, I did it, no worries. I asked him if he could help me with moving since we only had one car and it would be safer to get everything out in one go due to the reason for relocating, and he did! Then he ghosted me. I tried to reach out a few more times, and nothing. Until this past weekend, which was my birthday. I reached out and invited him to Applebees for lunch. The whole family went, and during the conversation I got upset due to my dad not knowing what trans people are (like thought trans men were born male and vice versa) when I’ve been out and medically transitioning for years. A few days later I texted him asking what I’ve done wrong and why he won’t let me have a relationship with my siblings (he refuses to even give them my number for emergencies) I also asked him for an explanation about why he didn’t try to be around when I was a kid, because he has never ever talked to me about it. He didn’t respond for a while but when he did he said “I dont even know how to respond. Like wtf. Grow up? Fuck off? That doesn't seem right. But thats how i feel. And no, i dont actually want you anywhere near the Cs cuz your a friggin mess. Ugh. So far i havent responded cuz i got nothing good to say.” He meant to send it to my step mom. When he was my age he had a child in another state he was neglecting but im the one who needs to grow up. He also still has not apologized for saying that, and he doubled down with “what’s done is done” and “that’s how I feel” He also called me “unpredictable” because of my “attitude” at apple bees. The attitude was after 10 minutes of trying to get the basic fact of what trans people are by definition across I accidentally snapped a little at my 14 year old brother when he said trans women should not be allowed in women’s shelters. I did not yell at him, but I did snap a bit (my words were something like “wow that’s not ok at all I need to step outside”) and then excuse myself to cool down. When I came back, I apologized to my brother and made sure he knew I was not mad at him and the situation was a bit much for me. I was wrong and he is a kid. It hurt that my own siblings hadn’t been taught basic info about trans people though and that his response to hearing about a trans person is to think badly like that. I’m honestly so fucking done with my dad, he wasn’t there when I was a kid and I don’t need him here now. My little siblings really want a relationship with me though, and I feel stuck. He’s not making it easy to connect with them, the oldest was born when I was 14, and he says me and him need to “build a bridge” before I can spend time with them unsupervised. I have never hurt children, in fact I am the one who called CPS for my maternal brothers and my cousins and got them away from their abusive parents. I don’t know if I can emotionally handle being kept at arms length by my own dad after what i suffered through while living with my mom. So should I cut him off for good and considered myself an orphan? I literally raised myself so it feels that way. EDIT I should add that I only knew he found out about me at 4 yesterday. Before this past week he had just shown up and pretended it was fine with no explanation or apology for missing so much of my life.

2024.05.02 22:30 AKACHI2007 WHY ARE THE 4 HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE THE SAME COLOURS AS THE ISLAMIC FLAGS?

WHY ARE THE 4 HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE THE SAME COLOURS AS THE ISLAMIC FLAGS?
WHITE RED BLACK GREEN
Have you noticed how the 4 horsemen in Revelations Chapter 6 are the colours of the Islamic Flag? Is that a coincidence? Pay ATTENTION because when it's concerning black folks the bible is SCARY in it's accuracy.
The reason Why Eurocentric Churches Can not understand the visions of John, Daniel, Ezekiel, Zechariah, and the prophecy of Jesus (Yahushua Ha-Mashiach), in the Bible is that they dismiss Black History in place of European lies!
They try to fit Modern Israel into everything rather than looking at what the bible is saying for itself!
Because they cannot accept the truth they have been given over to a lie and a delusion!
The Greek translation of the word PALE *is "*CHLOROS" which means GREEN, GREENISH or PALE according to Strong's bible concordance. Many Bibles use the word GREEN instead of PALE but some use PALE instead of GREEN in Rev 6:7.
Let’s look into how REVELATIONS 6 relates to Islam and Black people.
THE FIRST HORSEMAN

THE FIRST SEAL 632 AD

6 I looked on when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a thunderous voice, “Come!” 2 So I looked, and here came a WHITE HORSE! The one who rode it had a bow***, AND HE WAS GIVEN A CROWN, AND AS A CONQUEROR, HE RODE OUT TO CONQUER.***
WHITE HORSE- CONQUEST!
MUHAMMED AND THE RASHIDUN CALIPHATE: 632 AD-661 AD
  • The crown given represents the FIRST Caliphate (ISLAMIC EMPIRE) who succeeded the prophet, Muhammed in 632 AD.
  • Conquered Jerusï»żalem in 638 AD
  • A crown was given to him which means the FIRST Muslim Empire that rode out on Conquest! They were called the Rashidun Caliphate!
  • Brilliant horsemen & highly skilled Archers rode out on conquests
THE SECOND HORSEMAN

THE SECOND SEAL 661 AD

3 Then when the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come!” 4 And another HORSE, FIERY RED, came out, and the one who rode it was granted permission to take peace from the earth, SO THAT PEOPLE WOULD BUTCHER ONE ANOTHER, AND HE WAS GIVEN A HUGE SWORD.
RED RED HORSE-CIVIL WAR
THE UMAYYAD CALIPHATE: 661 AD-750 AD
  • The SECOND Caliphate (ISLAMIC EMPIRE)
  • Birthed from the 1st civil war called fitnahs & went on to have 2 more during its reign. The most civil wars of all caliphates
  • Built the DOME ON THE ROCK which is dated by Angel Gabriel to be the Abomination of Desolation in the book of DANIEL 12:11.
  • Completion of 'The Dome on the Rock' in 692 AD led to Israelite slavery for 13 centuries (A time, Times & half a Time) during the MUSLIM ARAB SLAVE TRADE which birthed the TRANS-ATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE. Daniel 12:12.
  • JESUS warned his people in Matt 24:15-24, MK 13:14-25 & LUKE 21:20-24 that they will go into slavery when the DOME ON THE ROCK is built.
THE THIRD HORSE MAN

THE THIRD SEAL 750 AD

5 Then when the Lamb opened the third seal I heard the third living creature saying, “Come!” So I looked, and here came a BLACK HORSE! The] one who rode it had a balance scale in his hand. 6 Then I heard something like a voice from among the four living creatures saying, “A QUART OF WHEAT WILL COST A DAY’S PAY AND THREE QUARTS OF BARLEY WILL COST A DAY’S PAY. BUT DO NOT DAMAGE THE OLIVE OIL AND THE WINE!”
BLACK HORSE- COMMERCE & INDUSTRY
THE ABBASID CALIPHATE- The Golden Age of Islam
  • The Abbasid Empire was known for its commerce & industry.
  • The THIRD Caliphate (ISLAMIC EMPIRE)
  • Contrary to most opinions that say this is famine the bible is NOT saying that. Buying 3 quarts of barley for a day's pay can feed a large family with leftovers. Barley expands 3 to 4 times its size and for a day's pay that is quite a lot.
  • This reflects the Golden Age of Islam which Muslims are very proud of.
  • Known for focusing on trade, Arts, and Science.
  • Built the Ancient city of Baghdad which served as a center for trade etc.
THE FOURTH HORSEMAN

THE FOURTH SEAL 1258 AD

7 Then when the Lamb opened the fourth seal I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come!” 8 So I looked and here came a PALE GREEN HORSE! The name of the one who rode it was DEATH, AND HADES FOLLOWED RIGHT BEHIND*. They were given authority over* A FOURTH OF THE EARTH, TO KILL ITS POPULATION WITH THE SWORD, FAMINE, AND DISEASE, AND BY THE WILD ANIMALS OF THE EARTH.
PALE GREEN HORSE 1258 AD-1502 AD
MONGOLS “Come and sip from the cup of Destruction”-Genghis Khan
  • The Golden Horde were Muslim Converts hence the Pale Green and not a deeper Green. They did not inherit Islam like the other Caliphates before them but rather Converted to Islam.
  • The Greek translation of the word PALE *is "*CHLOROS" which means GREEN, GREENISH or PALE according to Strong's bible concordance. Many Bibles use the word GREEN instead of PALE but some use PALE instead of GREEN in Rev 6:7.
  • The Khan of the Golden Horde converted to Islam in 1258/59 AD the horde became fully Muslim within 83 years.
  • The Mongols own a quarter of the world in landmass. You can google this and it comes up immediately!
  • The Golden Horde threw dead bodies infected with plague over enemy walls.
  • The BLACK DEATH is believed to be the worse plague in history killing up to 60 % of the European population. It is widely considered to have reached Europe because of the earliest form of biological warfare performed by the Golden Horde in the siege of Caffa in 1346.
  • 1 quarter of the world's population was under Mongol Rule
  • Dogs ate corpses and the plague was responsible for massive food shortages & interrupted trade
The Golden Horde had a very early form of biological warfare where they would take the dead bodies of plague-infected victims and throw them over their enemy's walls. Many historians believe this to amplify the range of the BLACK DEATH which was the worst plague in recorded history! See the (Golden Horde) Siege of CAFFA
Obviously with no one to work the fields because of the plague famine crept in and wild animals ate the flesh of plagued victims.
This also takes the direction of the seals towards EUROPE where the next seal takes place.
TRANS ATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE

THE FIFTH SEAL 1502 AD

9 Now when the Lamb opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been violently killed because of the WORD OF GOD AND BECAUSE OF THE TESTIMONY THEY HAD GIVEN. 10 They cried out with a loud voice, “HOW LONG, SOVEREIGN MASTER, HOLY AND TRUE, BEFORE YOU JUDGE THOSE WHO LIVE ON THE EARTH AND AVENGE OUR BLOOD?” 11 Each of them was given a long white robe and they were told to rest for a little longer until the full number was reached of both their fellow servants] and their brothers who were going to be killed just as they had been.
1502 AD to PRESENT
THE SLAVE TRADE!
The transatlantic slave trade started shortly after the Hebrews and the Moors were kicked out of Spain in 1492 AD by QUEEN ISABELLA & KING FERDINAND. The Date the bible has given for the testimony of the Hebrews and Christians is 1502 AD when many historians believed that the Trans-Atlantic slave trade began. That is 10 YEARS AFTER THEY DISCOVERED AMERICA! You have yet to learn how this relates to REVELATIONS 12 &13. Please look out for my post on that!
In 1502, Spanish colonists asked the king of Spain for permission to bring African slaves to the New World to provide labor for their large farms, or plantations. The colonists occupied the West Indies, the islands in the Caribbean Sea on which explorer Christopher Columbus (1451–1506) had first landed ten years earlier.
“WORD OF GOD AND BECAUSE OF THE TESTIMONY THEY HAD GIVEN.“ When you observe historically how this makes sense we can review the Spanish INQUISITION and how it LED to the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Many people have not connected the dots. But I will do a post on how this relates to Revelations 12 & 13. All this is about the suffering of the Black Israelites and what happened to them. MANY HEBREWS & CHRISTIANS DIED IN THE SPANISH INQUISITION and this seal is the revelation of those things.
If you saw my last post “IT ALL STARTED FOR US WITH THE ARAB SLAVE TRADE & THE DOME ON THE ROCK 692 AD. BIBLICAL PROPHECY” https://www.reddit.com/HebrewIsraelites/comments/1ce9a7f/it_all_started_for_us_with_the_arab_slave_trade/
You will see how this links up and get a better picture of how the bible tells you that the true children of the Most High God will end up scattered into the entire world through slavery and this is what makes the NEXT SEAL MAKE SENSE.
STARFALL

THE SIXTH SEAL ???

12 Then I looked when the Lamb opened the sixth seal, and a huge earthquake took place; the sun became as black as sackcloth made of hair, and the full moon became blood red; 13 and the stars in the sky fell to the earth like a fig tree dropping its unripe figs when shaken by a fierce wind. 14 The sky was split apart like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved from its place. 15 Then the kings of the earth, the very important people, the generals, the rich, the powerful, and everyone, slave and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 They said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one who is seated on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb, 17 because the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to withstand it?”
CONTINUED ON REVELATIONS CHAPTER 7
THE GATHERING OF THE TRUE ISRAELITES- Descendants of the captive African and the Hebrew slaves
After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth so no wind could blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree. 2 Then I saw another angel ascending from the east, who had the seal of the living God. He shouted out with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given permission to damage the earth and the sea: 3 “Do not damage the earth or the sea or the trees until we have put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.” 4 Now I heard the number of those who were marked with the seal,144,000, sealed from all the tribes of the people of Israel:
To keep the post short I won’t go too deep into this but we can see here that we are approaching the sixth Seal. THE DREADED WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE! This is a worldwide disaster that is about to happen. NASA & other experts may well tell you that a comet has hit the earth to give people a reason but they themselves will not understand. This is the Sign for God's people to return to the Messiah and come Home as He is about to Return.
Here is what Jesus says about this, now if you saw my last post, “IT ALL STARTED FOR US WITH THE ARAB SLAVE TRADE & THE DOME ON THE ROCK 692 AD. BIBLICAL PROPHECY” you would know he was talking about the DOME OF THE ROCK AND THE ARAB SLAVE TRADE WHICH LEGALLY ENDED IN 2007.
YES THE BIBLE GAVE DATES IN THE BOOK OF DANIEL!
MATTHEW 24:29-31
29 “Immediately after the suffering of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man arriving on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet blast, AND THEY WILL GATHER HIS ELECT FROM THE FOUR WINDS, FROM ONE END OF HEAVEN TO THE OTHER.
JOEL 3
1 For look! In those days and at that time I will return the exiles to Judah and Jerusalem.2 Then I will gather all the nations,
and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. I WILL ENTER INTO JUDGMENT AGAINST THEM THERE CONCERNING MY PEOPLE ISRAEL WHO ARE MY INHERITANCE, WHOM THEY SCATTERED AMONG THE NATIONS

Crowds, great crowds are in the Valley of Decision, for the day of the Lord is near in the Valley of Decision! 15 THE SUN AND MOON ARE DARKENED; THE STARS WITHHOLD THEIR BRIGHTNESS.
16 THE LORD ROARS FROM ZION; FROM JERUSALEM, HIS VOICE BELLOWS OUT. THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH SHAKE. BUT THE LORD IS A REFUGE FOR HIS PEOPLE; HE IS A STRONGHOLD FOR THE CITIZENS OF ISRAEL.
From this point you will march on to Jerusalem and a census of 144,000 males will be taken from among you to claim the land the Lord has given you. From among you 2 great prophets will be raised with power like the Lord when he was on the earth, to deliver you. The world will hate you and will war against you and you against them and the two prophets will make them drink blood for the things they have done to you and God’s Church. After this GOG/The Beast from the Abyss will return to reclaim the land it was driven from.
THE 4 HORSEMEN ALL CAME ONE AFTER THE NEXT
1. WHITE HORSEMAN/RASHIDUN CALIPHATE 632-661 AD muslim conquests
2. RED HORSEMAN/UMAYYAD CALIPHATE 661-750 AD muslim civil wars
3. BLACK HORSEMAN/ ABASSID CALIPHATE 750-1258 AD muslim golden age
4. PALE GREEN HORSEMAN/GOLDEN HORDE 1258-1502 AD muslim MONGOL converts spread of plague, famine and death and ruled a quarter of the world in land mass. Google it.
