Hello,
I am wondering if anyone with expertise in sound transfer, sound physics, and audio generation and acoustics might have some insight into a noise issue I've been having. I am wondering if a lower-pitched mechanical or electrical buzzing noise in one area of a building can translate or transform into a higher pitched sound on a higher floor.
For 3 months my unit has had an awful, shrill, high pitched sound penetrating through the unit, loudest at night. I rented some recording equipment (an audio interface, a Zoom H4N handheld recorder, a condenser microphone, a calibrated USB microphone) and set the sample rates to 44k, 48k, and 96k Hz (to sufficiently measure something above 8000 Hz). The equipment measured a really clear, loud, persistent noise in the 9800-10,000 Hz range, with occasional pulsing, and some higher tones as well in the 13k-16k Hz ranges. I am at a loss as to finding the source of this sound. It is driving me mad, and the building owner is unconcerned because he can't hear it apparently (though he is older and apparently many people lose the ability to hear over 10,000 Hz past their 30s).
I've done trouble shooting and eliminated anything in my unit as being the source of the sound (shut off breakers, unplugged everything including the fridge for 12 hrs, the sound was still present). It could potentially be from a neighbour as I am in an older building. However, I have noticed that the ceiling lights (and ceilings themselves) of the floors directly below me have a very loud, persistent buzzing sound. Could these lower pitched sounds on a basement floor reverberate (through plumbing or wiring or building frame) and transform into the high pitched sound I am recording? I.e. is there a way to identify if these are the fundamental tone? And is there a way to block these noises (through acoustic panelling)?

AllTalk correctly generates the .wav file, but it doesnt send it alongside the text response and the image. And as seem in the example above, the text is ouputting the .wav file path, and not the "play button". Yesterday, I was at work and a 25 lb steel bar fell on my head. I went to the hospital completely confused and profusely vomiting. I was diagnosed with a concussion. CT scans were clean, they said I was extremely lucky to not have a brain bleed. All my bosses admitted fault as they knew for a long time the machine was faulty and I complained about it often.
GOING BACK IN TIME- A year ago I slipped and fell on ice at my job, and filed with workers comp. After a few months, all my doctors said I needed continued care, but workers comp hired an "independent medical examiner" who, despite having all my doctors notes, kicked me off and stopped all my treatment. I have joint dysfunction due to the injury, but was unable to sue because I filed with workers comp.
NOW, with my head injury yesterday, at the hospital they shoved a paper in my hand and told me to sign it. I can't remember what it said, I was on so many narcotics. She said it was a workers comp paper. I told her no no, I'm not signing, I'm not signing. She told me "this is different from the one with your employer, you have to sign this", so I did.
What the hell did she make me sign? Did she render me unable to sue? How is there a workers comp "for the hospital" and one "for the job"? I am sure I will recover and I will have no need for lawyers and the like. But workers comp completely screwed me over with my back injury, and I never want to deal with them again. If anything with my head becomes chronic, I want to know if I have the ability to still sue my employer. Thank you.

I was laid off of work and haven't had luck with my job search, especially without transportation.
Every "friend" I had has robbed me. It adds up to thousands. They use me until I have nothing left then they take it all and leave.
My mother is unemployed without any income or effort, and I cannot help but help her as much as I possibly can.
I hate begging. I used to reject any money or gifts from people because I am a giver. But I don't know what to do. I don't want to do anything that involves selling my body and I have no belongings left to sell. Even my phone is broken and I can't afford a new one.
I am so lost and so alone. I need help. I need help so bad.
I am willing work for it or pay it back if needed as I don't expect hand outs, but anything at all is appreciated. I am a 26 year old female from MA. My mother owned her house but town tried to take it due to 12 years of neglected property tax, in turn I bought her house and had the mortgage in my name, even though she was going to live there and pay the mortgage just using my name as her credit sucks. She lied about paying it and didn't give me the account information but I trusted her, stupidly, now it's too late. If I can't save it I want to fix it up as much as I can while I have time left. She put ruined my credit further, put me in collections with home owners insurance, and broke her promises of it only being a year until we sell, and her giving me the cash to pay my car off. Now I have no car and no home soon. I had perfect credit and $30k of available credit cards in good standing but my ex racked them up to the point they all maxed. Not only did he use them without my permission sometimes, but I couldn't eat in front of him and watch him go hungry, I just couldn't. I had to support him too. He couldn't hold a job. And when enough was enough and I said no more, he would abuse and threaten me. I do everything for everyone I care about but no one is there for me. I legit can't afford food tonight. I only get $22 in food stamps.

Hi! To preface this, I want to note that I don't consider myself in financial trouble currently, and is more looking for advice since there is a big possibility that I would face that in the future. I asked mod in the rules thread in advance if I can make this post, because I recognize I'm privileged compare to many here. Still, I apologize sincerely if I bring negative emotion to any of you, as I find people here wonderful and kind. Also, sorry for any weird phrasing, since English isn't my first language.
I'm 24 and earns around 36K after tax, currently working in a Canada big city. Currently, I'm not really self-sustainable. I pay my rent and use my parents' credit card for a lot of daily spendings. My parents are always happy to help me and they are middle class back in my home country. The thing is, my home country isn't doing great, and my parents has discussed with me that they will seek to immigrate to Canada if the authoritarian spiral gets worse, which is the current trend. Both of them work in professions that they can't do in Canada, and if it comes to them leaving my home country, it's likely they won't be able to transfer their money/asset. Therefore, we would probably be in poverty in that scenario.
Parents and emergency funding: It's common in my culture for the parents to give their child money forever, and I'm lucky that my parents don't have the controlling tendencies that come with it. It's sort of murky since they let me manage a chunk of their savings, which I view as not my money and keeping their emergency funding for them. My parents, however, are like 'you can use it whenever, just don't drain it all". For example, they said they are totally fine if I use half to buy a cool car (we talked about it as a hypothetical since I don't actually drive). They alway encourage me to spend more money and live my best life, which makes it a bit hard to get the motivation to cut down my spending. They are fiscally responsible themselves, but they are the type to push back their retirement age to let me get everything I want. My mom is the one of the most competent person I know, speak English well, and has experience in many industries. I have no doubt she can find a job in Canada, but she loves her current profession, which requires her to get education and certification before she can do it here. I guess I just don't want her to work in something she doesn't like because I ordered Ubereats too many times.
My own finances - Income: I have read discussions in this subreddit, and a common advice is to find a higher paying job. My current industry pays well (my classmates, that I know of, all have higher salaries than me), and I can switch to data science as there are some overlaps. My current company and boss is nice, while it doesn't pay super well, the job is chill. I don't think I can switch jobs in near future, since I need to get permanent residence first, which is important for future immigration scenarios. Part-time isn't viable currently because I'm taking French classes after work. I don't see an increase in my income other than yearly raise.
My own finances - Spending: More than 50% of my income goes to rent. I live in a studio so no roommate options. My city's rent has been crazy, but I do think there are less expensive places. I plan to live less downtown in the future, since public transportation is pretty good here. I don't have any expensive stuff because I hate shopping in general (especially despise buying new clothes), so less spending on that front, yah I guess? On eating, I plan to get back to cooking again. I'm a terrible cook who knows like 3 dishes, but luckily, I'm happy to eat the same thing every day. I definitely want to cut down my use of Uber Eats, which got a bit out of control last Winter due to poor weather and empty fridge. One of my hobby is reading, and I have bought some used books, and plans to do more library visits from now on.
I want to keep better track of my finances and adjust my expectations to prepare for the future. I love my parents, and I hope when it comes down to it, I can contribute to their emergency fund and make their life less stressful instead of relying on them. Thank you for any advice or tips.

It's no secret that Pokémon has a lost favor with older games for being stagnant, and even degenerating in some areas. XY, SwSh, and especially SV were not received all that well. For me personally, ORAS and Sun and Moon are the only games of the 3D era that caught my attention (never got around to trying Legends: Arceus, so I won't comment on that).
Even though it's likely, I hope Game Freak/TPC/Nintendo don't just continue to let the series stay in this limbo where there's little actual love put into the games since millions of little kids will buy them no matter what stats they're in. I want them to actually improve upon each game, and grow the fanbase by attracting new and old fans alike.
My ideas are:

• Seasonal/Side Events: After the postgame, there'll be occasional non-DLC side stories. They don't need to be anything massive, but they could be a good way at having people who drop the games once the story is finished come back every once in a while.
• A different story structure: Maybe the player plays as a member of the International Police investing a variety of strange phenomena all tying back into one issue? Maybe they're an ex-member of an evil team trying to redeem themselves, like in Colosseum? Now my idea doesn't necessarily insist on getting rid of a battling challenge or antagonist teams, but at least doing something new with those ideas could be cool. Alola experimented with this through the trials, but nothing like them was ever done again. The post Gen-6 games made the Teams different from mafias and would-be world destroyers, but aside from Team Skull they're all a bit goofy and not really threatening at all.
• A plot with maturity and depth: Not 'mature' as in super edgy scenarios, cussing, etc. For example - and slightly branching off my last point - an eco-terrorist group fighting against corporate oligarchs. There can be commentary on topics like climate change and environmentalism, while leaving room open for antagonism through the group go too far in their endeavors. NOTE, the plot points don't have to be super political like that. It's just one example. I liked how Alola touched upon parental neglect/abuse, so the topics could even be more personal like that too.
• Build upon the open world/segmented worlds: SV's open world was atrocious. Legends Arceus's segmented world appears to be better liked, but still has some issues. I won't say drop them entirely, because the idea of a big world full of visible Pokémon to explore was no doubt every kid Pokémon fan's dream. Just don't repeat the mistakes SV's open world have. Give the world an appealing art style, don't create settlements with a bunch of buildings we can't enter, implement level scaling for certain battles, etc.
• Characters: One of the weakest aspects of Pokémon across most of the games are the characters. I keep going back to Alola, but I loved SM because Lillie, Gladion, and Lusamine all have depth. I heard the DLC characters from SV have a lot of depth too, so I hope they keep improving on this front. As for the franchise as a whole, most gym leaders play zero or minimal part in the story, the Champion often fucks around and does nothing all game, character dynamics tend to rely on tell-don't-show, and whatever relevant characters there are become hollow shells once the story's up - like May in ORAS.
• Difficulty Options: a common defense at how easy the later gen games have been is 'well it's a kid's game, of course it'd be easy'. That makes no sense to me. 1) being a kid doesn't mean you never like challenge. 2) GF could have the players choose a difficulty. You don't want much of a challenge? Play on easy mode. Want a mix of ease and challenge? Normal mode. Want competitive level challenge? Play on hard mode.
• Side Quests: Side quests to build up the world and add depth to characters would do a massive service to the games. There are some side quests here and there throughout the main games, but they're usually something like 'Damn I wish I could see an Eevee. Oh you have one? Wow, cool! Have this item as thanks!'. You don't enter a local competition with your rival, explore ruins with a team of archaeologists, or anything interesting like that.
• Postgame: When the Postgame is reached, chunks of the world and new sidequests should unlock.

I (F22) have a friend we can fall Max M(21) we started out as co-workers in college (January 2022) Max was in a long term relationship with his HS gf and I had just gotten out of a super toxic relationship. We were purely platonic and in a friend group together. I started dating guys causally and he stayed with his girlfriend often times doing group dates. Everything was going well. Fast forward to August 2022 Max broke up with his girlfriend. I wasn’t seeing anyone at the time and we hung out in friend groups, he was a little flirty and a mutual friend we had (Ashley) would always ask me if I would ever be into Max and would say we would be so cute together. At the time it was so platonic I couldn’t see myself with him at all, he was cute and kind but I just couldn’t imagine myself being sexual with him. I didn’t think too much about Ashley’s comments and I assumed she was just being a typical girl trying to be a match maker. I also didn’t think much about Max’s flirty vibe because he was naturally like that and he had mention he was crushing on a regular customer we had at work. I even encouraged him to date her. And after a while he did date her, it lasted 4 months and he dumped (February 2023) her because it wasn’t going well.
Fast forward to April 2023 I was about to graduate college and move across the country when Max started asking to hang out one on one, we went on three unofficial dates and it finally hit me that he did actually like me, I still did not like him in that way but I hadn’t had sex in about a year and didn’t want to move to a new place with out having had sex in such a long time and being rusty (I know stupid logic) so we started sleeping together and it went from friends, to friends with benefits, to just hooking up and leaving without speaking much really quickly. We did this for a month and half and then I had to move (May 2023). At this point I had finally developed feelings for him but he now only saw me as a sex object (I assume).
His brother lived where I was moving so in July 2023 he went to see his brother and came to see me a few times. I did not treat him too well, I let him sleep over one night and didn’t make him breakfast and kinda rushed him out the next morning, in my defense I was acting like the sex object he saw me as, I wasn’t going to act like a girlfriend and do things he didn’t deserve. (He did Uber 40 minutes one way to see, I don’t think any guy in their right mind would do that for just sex) I then over the course of next year flew home a few times and saw him each time, when I flew home he would take me out to dinner first and then we’d go back to his place. We never texted or talked unless I was flying home and it was only to set up our “date” then we’d go back to never texting.
Then he went to basic training in April 2024. He asked me to write him letters everyday and I did. In one of his letters he sent to me he wrote that if he saw me he would cry, elope, and run away with me. When he got out of basic training it was a complete 360 from our usual behavior , he texted me every day for about 2 weeks and called me a few times. He even sent me a picture of himself and asked me to put it in my wallet. He also asked me to keep writing him letters even though he was out of basic training. He said he would re-read my letters and that they made him so happy, he said thought a lot about me while at basic and after. He was being very flirty again.
Something I forgot to mention: We both have jobs that make us move around a lot and would be difficult to ever be in the same place.
It seems like thing went from him liking me> him treating me like a sex object> back to friends with benefits but only speaking when I flew home> him speaking to me everyday> to now?
The advise I’m looking for is: Does he like me or is it just a typical case of a man playing games and wanting no strings sex ?
Are his intentions pure and this is just a confusing situation?

A little backstory
About 4 years ago i met him. He had transferred schools and we hit it off. We played fortnite together all the time on facetime and just got along. I have a question on Dalton capstone for the griffin case. I've completely presentation and the audio recording over it. This may be a dumb question - the engagement letter, risk tolerance questionnaire and IPS - are we asked to use their template and only edit the red parts (name, date, family name, student name) and that's it? Or are they asking us to use their template, rewrite it in our own words and submit a separate document? I definitely don't want to submit their document and get a bad score but all of our firms should have this prepared for us so I don't see why we would be asked to prepare our own. Any and all help is appreciated, thank you!

And when enough was enough and I said no more, he would abuse and threaten me. I do everything for everyone I care about but no one is there for me. I legit can't afford food tonight. When times were good, they invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into courses, masterminds (so they could get selfies with ppl like Russell Brunson and Dan Kennedy), company retreats, hiring a bunch of new employees so they could get on the INC 5000 fastest growing companies list…
And they even dropped over 100k making a documentary about their company, and the doc did NOT generate ONE SALE.
It’s like they were high off all the schmoozing and marketing assets that propped them up as “industry leaders”
The team would be scrambling trying to finish one project at bare minimum quality, and then the bosses would be like “hey we’re gonna start another podcast” and it’s like BRO let us work on actually IMPROVING the service rather than feed your narcissistic shiny object syndrome!!
And then when the economy took a dive all the shortcomings in their business came to light and clients started dropping like flies.
The bosses blamed it all on the recession, but the truth is, they were so shortsighted they thought their business was recession proof
Turns out a lot of their initial success was due to luck and confidence, not actually providing a valuable service to clients.
So the layoffs started. I survived round 1. They actually gave me a raise shortly after, and then did temporary pay reductions 2 months after my raise lol. (They basically gave me a raise and then took it away.)
I worked my ass off trying to do my part to keep the company afloat but it was a sinking ship. There were several more layoffs after that, so I wasn’t surprised when my time was up. But get this:
During the call, I asked them “Ok, what do I need to know for off boarding?”
And they had no answer. They’d laid off dozens of people at this point and didn’t have the decency to write some bullet points on a google doc to go over next steps. Fucking unprofessional losers.
They literally said, “We hadn’t really thought about it, but what would be very helpful for US is if you could send over any information you have that could help us take over your assignments”
I responded, “No. I need to put my energy into finding a job, not teaching you how to replace me”
So yeah, these two narcissistic douche bags who ran their company into the ground and kept bragging about how they landed on the INC 5000 fastest growing companies list are now facing bankruptcy, and had to layoff their entire US team, except for two or three people.
Here are some more grievances I want to rant about:
They once threw a company retreat with the sole intention of making a documentary and use us as props to hype themselves up. They hired a videographer to record us for their documentary and got everyone on the team to give testimonial interviews talking about how amazing our bosses are. It was incredibly emotionally manipulative. The video is still on YouTube and they ended up laying off all but 2 employees in that video.
they would always say “we’re like a family here” and I begged them to stop saying that bc it’s a massive red flag to new hires but of course they didn’t listen or care.
One of my bosses thought he was a sales Psychology god and charged $500 an hour for his consulting.
(he always bragged about how he was once so poor he had to sell plasma to pay the light bill. He portrayed himself as a self-made man. Well turns out his dad actually wrote him a big check so he could start his first business lol.)
This douche nozzle used to always say: “Money is like a good woman. If you don’t treat her right, she will leave you and find someone else who will.” well, guess what his girlfriend left him and now he’s facing bankruptcy lol.

LONG STORY BUCKLE IN.
For the sake of clarity we will call ex best friend, best friend. And the guy im seeing will be Adam, best friends boyfriend (yes boyfriend) is Zach.
A year ago best friend, Zach, and I moved in to a house together. Zach and best friend are both GM's of a chain restaurant, best friend only got her GM position because of Zach. No one can know this information at work because it's against company policy. When we all moved in together i started working as a shift lead under best friend so we could both guarantee we could pay rent, since she controlled my hours.
While working at this restaurant i met Adam who was a delivery driver, we hit it off really well and became instant friends. It was truly platonic between us during this time.
Zach and best friend's relationship has been going downhill for a while, she kept saying she wants to break up with Zach but he doesn't have another place to go, and she doesn't want him to be homeless. I repeatedly told her she can't keep worrying about that, as he is an adult and needs to figure out life on his own. I reminded her the times we grew the most was when we had to pick ourselves up by the bootstraps and keep going. She said his criminal record would make it difficult for him to get on his feet and she doesn't want that. I told her she could kick him to the spare room at minimum to end their relationship, and she still refused saying "maybe after his birthday, i don't want to break up with him before his birthday"
During this time she was coming to me complaining about wanting to end her relationship but never going through with it, she had started flirting with Adam. Adam knew her situation of wanting to end the relationship, and she kept telling everyone in about a month, soon after Zach's birthday she will end it. This is the only reason Adam was okay with the fling as her relationship was borderline abusive and coming to an end very soon (or so we thought).
Well Zach's birthday happened in January, the whole night was a disaster. Best friend is an alcoholic who had previously gotten a DUI charge for, and was on probation for an extended period of time (unsure how long) and her probation had just ended before Zachs birthday. So they went to a bar and got drunk, got into a fight and Zach left best friend at the bar alone. Thankfully this bar was within walking distance of our house, but i guess best friend got lonely and called Adam to come pick her up. Adam was working with me that night, and he knew if he left he would be missing out on a lot of money. But he left because he wanted to make sure she was okay. When he got there best friend started trying to get sexual with him while blacked out, he forced her to stop by grabbing her hands and telling her to stop. When she wouldn't he threatened to kick her out of the car (they were parked), and she finally stopped. He eventually brought her back to the restaurant where i was managing the shift and getting ready to close. She was drunk as helll y'all. We made it through the night and we all went home.
Both Adam and I assumed Zach and best friend's relationship would definitely be over after that night, as she had promised it would be many times and the night was a disaster. But did she?..
No. She did not. I'm not sure what Zach said to convince best friend to stay but the next day she told Adam she wants to take a step back from this and focus on her relationship with Zach, "hes my best friend still and i love him" is what she said to Adam.
Adam assumed this meant she was ending their fling and focusing on her relationship from now on.
After this happened Adam and I bonded over our disappointment and frustration over best friends decisions. Years ago right after best friends DUI i told her if she ever went back to drinking i would not be her friend. So as soon as she broke her sobriety, i knew this was the beginning of the end of our 10 year friendship. I was grieving, she was my only friend left. Only support system in this city i moved to be with her. It felt like she chose alcohol over her best friend of 10 years. I had given everything i had to offer this girl, a place to live when she was homeless. Clothes, food, i bought her a new phone once. I even helped feed her family when they ran out of government assistance (foodstamps).
And while i do understand alcohol is a disease, she was sober, she could have attended meetings or increased her therapy sessions to avoid relapsing. She didn't care.
Adam texted me one night that he felt he had wasted his kisses on best friend, i ignored the message and went about our conversation like normal as I wasn't sure how to respond to that. I was getting the feeling he was wishing he had kissed me instead, at this time i did not have romantic feelings for Adam so i just didn't respond to that message.
A few weeks go by and Adam and I talk everyday, eventually i started feeling attracted to him. At first i thought maybe this was just period hormones 😂 it was not. I waited 3 weeks before saying anything to make sure my feelings weren't changing. Adam seemed happy to hear i had feelings for him and said its kind of hard not to since we're so alike. So we started our thing. Adam and i made sure to discuss taking things VERY slowly as we didn't want to rush into anything and ruin our friendship. We may hang out and decide we aren't compatible romantically, so until we are sure we aren't labeling anything. I would classify our relationship as a situationship at the moment.
Fast forward a month, I was at work and best friend texted me "I need to ask you something and i need you to keep it to yourself"
I immediately knew she was going to ask me to keep something from Adam since he was the only other person i talked to. She asked me if Adam had been hitting on me recently. I was hesitant to answer as Adam and I discussed not telling anyone for the sake of peace, not to mention we aren't sure of anything so what's the point? But i didn't want to lie to her, so i told her "We didnt want to tell anyone yet as we aren't sure this will lead to anything, but Adam and I have feelings for each other and are kinda seeing each other. We won't be pursuing anything until we aren't working at the same job to prevent any issues"
At first she just said okay. And then the drama starts.
She goes on to say "you know we've been seeing each other for months now right?" (Adam told me every detail of their interactions) I said yes (knowing they weren't seeing each other now).
She asked me how i could do this to her and why would i pursue him, i said "You have a boyfriend, and Adam is single and i have a strong emotional connection with him, that's why im pursuing him"
She replied she was planning on being with him (this was news to both Adam and I since shes never mentioned this to either of us, also hilarious she thinks that as Adam HATES dogs and alcohol, and best friend has a big dog and loves alcohol) She said that would be like her sleeping with my boyfriend (i broke up with my bf in November of 2023 and he was hot garbage) and i said not really, thats comparing apples and oranges.
YALL. She tried to kick me out. I told her that isn't up to her since we both signed the lease, and I have already chosen to renew it.
She said "how could you do this to me, you promised you wouldn't take over my home and that you would move out" (in my previous relationships we had planned on moving states after this first year was up but then we broke up under horrible circumstances, so best friend told me she would be fine renewing with me)
I reminded her that agreement was prior to our new agreement, and if she has an issue living with me she can find a new place to live, as I am fine acting like adults and living cordially.
She started calling me names like a stupid bitch, cunt, and told me to choke on my spit.
All of this is going down while i was at work, i was so stressed out i ran outside and ended up throwing up. I blocked her on social media. Then it occurred to me she might try to fire me to force me to move out if i can't pay my rent, so i texted her if she tries to fire me in retaliation or if she cuts my hours in retaliation i will report her for everything to everyone (Zach is not on the lease of our house so i could report her for that, in my state i would not get into trouble for her breaking the lease i double checked). She texted back please dont report her, if i dont mess with her stability she wont mess with mine. That is where our agreement stands.

So, AITA for seeing the guy my ex best friend was seeing for less than 3 months while she was in a relationship?

Back in 2016, I was working at a roadside diner west of St. Cloud, Minnesota. Neat little place, had a bit of a 60’s vibe to it, but without the hairdo. On the slow hours of the day, or whenever we just had locals around, I’d be humming along with the chefs playing radio out of the kitchen. It wasn’t an exciting time, but it was nice to have a workplace that felt like a second home.
A couple of weekends a month, we had an all-night crew to serve passing truckers. You usually never had to do more than one shift though, and we got to make own schedules. Our boss was pretty hands-off. It was during one of those shifts, at the first week of early summer, that my life took a turn for the worse – and I didn’t even realize it.

We were used to having the occasional odd customer during those hours of the day. When this guy walked in, I didn’t know what to think. He was about 6’2, bald, and pale as chalk. He wore this worn-out t-shirt that looked like it’d been on fire. With every step, he dragged his feet, and collapsed in one of our booths, seemingly exhausted.
I looked back at the chef, and he just shrugged. Guy wasn’t hurting anyone, but he didn’t look like he was all there. But a job’s a job, so I went up to him.
“You alright there?” I asked.
He looked up at me like I was speaking a foreign language, then sunk his head back down, gently shaking it.
“Nah,” he said. “I, uh… I don’t think I am.”
He had this voice on the knife’s edge between a hysterical laugh and a howling cry. He was trembling.
“You need me to call someone?”
“Call?”
“Yeah, call someone.”
“How?”

I didn’t understand the question. I figured he was coming down from some kind of binge, and I wasn’t about to take any chances. I asked the chef to get me a side of bacon to keep the guy calm while I called the police.
As I slid the plate over to him, he sunk his face into his hands, sobbing.
“T-thank you,” he cried. “I-I’m… please…”
I sat down across from him, instinctively reaching out to grab his hand. He let me. Even at a light touch, I could feel the scars on his palm and fingertips. Whatever’d happened to him, it must’ve been awful.
“I can’t go back,” he sniffled. “Don’t make me go back. I can’t. Please, I can’t.”
“You’re not going anywhere. It’s okay,” I smiled. “You’re safe here.”
“Can you help me?” he asked. “Can you keep him out?”
“I’m sure we can figure it out,” I nodded. “Just eat up. It’s okay.”

His fingers trembled as he tentatively bit off a piece of bacon. His teeth were black, and he flinched.
“I need time,” he said. “I need time to run.”
“Don’t worry,” I assured him. “We’ve called for help.”
“I just… I just need time.”
We just sat there for a while. He calmed his breathing but kept staring out the window. I could tell he was looking for something – or someone. All I could see was a road and a handful of moths. We sat there for some time, in silence, as he carefully nibbled on the slices of maple bacon.
As two police officers entered the diner, he got up from his seat. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small bundle of scrunched-up trash. A couple of singles, a plastic card, dirt, and something resembling animal bones. He tried to straighten out the bills, pushing them into my hands along with the laminated card.
“Just… I need time. I’ll come back. Please.”
I didn’t understand. I just nodded and accepted it. Seconds later, the officers asked him to step outside and explain the situation. I got busy taking orders from a couple of passing truckers, watching glimpses of the scene through the window. A couple of minutes later, the strange man was taken away.

My shift ended at sunrise. I dragged myself to my car with a yawn, shuffling around my pockets for the keys. I hadn’t thought much about the items he’d handed me, but I took a closer look. I’d thrown away the animal bones and dirt, but there were a couple of dollar bills and that laminated card left. I checked the card first.
It looked like some kind of bookmark. On one side it was completely white, and on the other side there were dried blue flower petals arranged in a spiral. Kinda reminded me of a sunflower. And finally, there were the dollar bills.
I didn’t pay much attention to these at first. Just a couple of singles. But after a closer look, I noticed something unusual. There was a man on the bill that I didn’t recognize. It took me a couple of google searches to realize that this man was Walter Mondale – the man who’d lost to Ronald Reagan’s second run for president back in ’84. Why was this man on a one-dollar bill?

Before heading to bed, I put the items down on my nightstand. In a moment of silent wonder, I looked out the window. What had that man been looking for? What’d he been running from?
There was nothing out there.
Just a couple of moths.

Waking up the next morning, I had a full day off. I spent it cleaning my apartment, watching movies, having dinner with a couple of friends, and ending the night with a couple of drinks at the pub down on the corner. No binge or anything, just got a bit boozy. I was still gonna be in bed by midnight.
I took the scenic route home; a long walk. All the way down main street, past the lake. I took a shortcut through the park by the final stretch, speeding up a bit. That place was trouble.
As I hurried by the fountain, I spotted someone in the distance. A shrouded figure at the edge of the streetlights. I stopped to observe for a second, but as I did, the lights flickered. Coming back on, the figure was gone.
I chalked it up to imagination. I was a bit drunk, after all. Besides – it was small, like a child. What the hell would a kid be doing out at this hour?

A couple of days passed. I didn’t notice anything unusual, but I kept coming back to that distressing feeling of missing something important. Looking back at it now, I just feel dumb. He was there all along. Outside the supermarket. In the parking lot. Off the highway. Hell, he was outside my window at night sometimes, but just too short for me to spot.
I’m getting ahead of myself.
It wasn’t until one morning when I was driving to work that I got a clear view of him. I was crossing a four-way street, taking a sharp left turn, when I had to throw myself on the breaks. There was a kid in the middle of the street.
I hadn’t seen him that clearly before. He was probably around 6, maybe 7 years old. Wearing a plain black shirt and a pair of light blue canvas pants. Short black hair, dark eyes, and no shoes. That particular detail stuck with me. No shoes? Why?
I almost lost control, but I was lucky. There wasn’t much traffic, and I managed to stop further down the road. There were black lines in the pavement from my screeching tires swerving back and forth. Regaining my composure, I looked in the rear-view mirror.
The kid was gone.

But that was just the start.
I’d spot him every now and then. Looking out the window at work. At the gas station. A passing face in the crowd when shopping for groceries. Every now and then, something would pull on my attention, forcing me to whip my head around, looking for the source of that ill feeling crawling up my spine. Sometimes I saw him. And even worse – sometimes I didn’t.
I remember lying awake at night, hearing moths tap against my window. There was nothing else. Nothing outside. I patrolled my apartment six times, checking every window. I’d looked everywhere, and there was no reason for me to feel the way I did. I was growing paranoid.
And yet, in the morning, my front door was unlocked, and slightly open.

It all came to a head one afternoon when I was out on my smoke break. I’d barely slept for the past three nights, and you could kinda tell I was having a bad day. As I stood there, leaning against the side door of the diner, I see the kid again. This time just across the road, maybe 50 feet or so away. I’d had enough. This had to end.
I was furious. I stormed forward, calling him out with every slur and curse I could think of. I was psyching myself up. I was in the right, and I refused to be harassed anymore – kid or not. Didn’t matter. I crossed the road, barely dodging a speeding jeep, and met him face-to-face.
“What the hell do you want?!” I’d yell. “Why are you following me?!”
He was completely expressionless. He didn’t even flinch, no matter how much I pointed or screamed. I snapped my fingers in front of his eyes, and he didn’t even blink. He just stared at me, like a porcelain doll head on a swivel.

I wasn’t thinking about the bystanders though. A couple of middle-aged men stepped up, asking in no kind terms what the hell was wrong with me. I was held back and restrained. Someone called the police. Someone else called my manager – I’d forgotten to take off my apron, so they could see the diner logo. A couple of people filmed it. One of the videos got like 120k views in a day before it fell off the map. I still see it as a react gif sometimes.
It was a disaster. After a couple of officers came by to talk to me, he’d just disappeared into thin air. The officers took me down to the station – not to detain me, but to get me away from the heated crowd. That car ride downtown sobered me up to what the hell was going on. I was being stalked by this kid, but there wasn’t a living soul out there that would believe me.
Well, maybe one.

I was asked a couple of questions and released within about half an hour. They told me to go home and sleep this whole thing off. That wouldn’t be a problem. I didn’t have a job to go back to anyway, according to the (many) texts I’d gotten. I had all the goddamn time in the world.
I was just about to leave when something came to mind. The two officers who’d picked me up were still waiting by their car when I turned back to them.
“Sorry, you picked up the guy I called in about at the diner, right?” I asked.
“Sure did.”
“You got any idea what happened to him?”
The two looked at one another for a moment, shrugged, and turned to me.
“Didn’t have any ID and gave a fake name. I think they took him to psych.”
“Psych?”
“Well, he was saying some, uh… strange things. There were interviews with a, uh…”
The two quieted down and flashed me a smile.
“There’s not that much we can say.”

Coming home, I decided to get to the root of this. It didn’t take me that long to find the place where the guy’d been taken; there aren’t a lot of mental health facilities in this part of the country. Especially facilities that accept involuntary subjects.
But my eyes kept drifting back to the strange dollar bills he’d given me, resting neatly on my nightstand. They were so detailed. A bit old, sure, but that only made them seem more genuine. What the hell was he doing with a handful of clearly fake dollar bills? Like, what’s the purpose? There had to be a purpose.
That unnerved me.

I managed to arrange a meeting. It wasn’t easy, and I think a lot of it boiled down to the police having no idea what could make this guy talk. For some reason, he kept providing them with false information. Maybe a familiar face, for one reason or another, might make him talk.
Just a couple of days later, I was putting my items in a metal bowl on the second floor at a mental health institute in the next town over. I asked one of the nurses if I could keep one of my dollar bills. Apparently, that was okay.
I was shuffled through a couple of locked doors and escorted to an off-white side-room. No décor, no locks. The guy was already there.

He’d been dressed down into these neutral eggshell-white garbs. It was strange seeing him in a lit-up room like this. I didn’t know what to expect.
Getting a closer look at him, he was probably in his 50’s. It’d been hard to tell earlier. I couldn’t get over just how pale he was; it was almost a complete lack of pigment. It looked sickly. His thin arms didn’t help – he looked malnourished. And yet, he was smiling.
“Hello,” he said.
“Hello to you too,” I smiled. “You doing okay?”
“I’m… I’m pretty good,” he nodded. “Thank you.”
I sat down across from him and took out the dollar bill he’d given me.
“I wanted to ask you about this.”
“For the bacon,” he said, matter-of-factly.
“Excuse me?”
“Sorry, was that not enough?”
“No, it’s…”
I took a moment to compose myself. I had too many questions.

He sighed, took the bill, and looked it over. Looking back at me, I could tell there was something painful stirring in his mind. His smile slowly faded.
“Sorry,” he said. “I try to forget sometimes. It’s easier than making sense of it.”
“Let’s start with something simple,” I nodded. “Like… your name. Where you’re from.”
“Those things are pretty far from simple.”
He was looking straight through me; his eyes sinking back to deeper, more uncomfortable thoughts.

His name was Samuel, and he was born around these parts in back in the 1970’s. He’d worked as a telecommunications specialist out of St. Cloud back in the 90's. He had a wife, three children, and a four-bedroom house.
“But it… that was all before, see?” he explained. “Then it all just…”
“Just what?” I asked. “What happened?”
He looked at me, opening and closing his mouth, looking for the right words to come out. Nothing happened. He shook his head, trying again.
“It started with the street preachers,” he said. “Hundreds of them, marching on every city. All saying the same doomsday shit as always. World was dying. All coming to an end.”
“I haven’t seen anything like that.”
“Then there were storms,” he continued without skipping a beat. “Some would last for weeks. Others longer. Entire cities would be flooded or torn apart. Earthquakes causing monster waves along the east coast, sending shockwaves all the way to mainland Europe. Then, Yellowstone.”
“Yellowstone?”
“Yeah,” he nodded. “Lights out.”

Samuel was painting this apocalyptic vision of a world undone. Catastrophe after catastrophe. Hooded people marching the streets, screaming for the mercy of a mad god. But there was more to it.
“Then things stopped making sense. It’s as if the rules changed,” he continued. “Roads would stop leading home. Trees would change color. People turned twisted and corrupted. Like… one of our neighbors couldn’t eat anything but gunpowder. There was a woman just down the street who tried to kill anyone wearing glasses. It was… pandemonium.”
I didn’t say anything. What he was saying didn’t make any sense, but he was trying his best to keep his rambling coherent.
“The plants died. Trees too. The only thing that could grow in that environment were these twisted blue things that popped up out of nowhere. But people… people are what got twisted the most.”
He told me of these towering 7-foot-tall humanoid creatures that roamed the forests. Black as night – not even reflecting light. Arms reaching all the way to their knees. Elongated, inhuman things that all used to be someone he knew.

“The doomsayers all said the same thing,” he continued. “That God was a scared little boy, and that he was dying. Everything that was happening was just an expression of that ceaseless, bottomless, existential grief.”
Samuel looked back and forth, finally burying his face in his hands.
“It all broke down. Roads stopped leading anywhere. No power. No water. Julie changed. Ollie changed. Tobie made himself a mask and wandered off into the woods. Ira just… disappeared. And for… years? Has it been years? It’s just been me.”
“But you’re here, now,” I said. “And what you’re describing, it… it didn’t happen.”
“It happened,” he insisted. “Just not… here. But here.”
He tapped his finger on the single dollar bill.
“Somewhere, somehow, I must’ve taken a wrong turn. I slipped through something broken, and now I’m here. And… and he’s coming to bring me back. He doesn’t want anyone to leave.”
“Who?”
“Just! Just…” he chuckled. “Just a sad little boy who’s been told he’s going to die.”
I didn’t know what to say. I just sat with him for a while, holding his hand.

Before I left, Samuel got up from his chair. He looked at me, forcing himself to smile.
“If I go back, I’ll try not to… to be like them. I’ll try. And… and I’ll be the one to say something.”
He let out a painful little laugh, shaking his head.
“Maybe just a… hello.”

I left that day with more questions than answers. I couldn’t picture the world he’d lived through. Then again, how could it be true? None of it had happened. But what was he gaining from lying about it?
That was the last time I saw Samuel. A few days later, he went missing, as if he’d disappeared into thin air. I didn’t know what to think of it. There was nothing on the cameras – no one entering or leaving the building. No quick escapes, no clever plans. He’d just walked into his room and disappeared. Nothing left but a couple of moths fluttering about.
And for a while, that was it. That was the end of the story. I got busy looking for a new job, and all the little items given to me by Samuel was put away into a little box in my glove compartment. Life soldiered on, and no matter how many questions I had, there was no one around to answer them. Even the strange kid that’d been following me was, seemingly, gone.

A couple of months later, I was driving home from a friend’s place. I stopped at a four-way street, waiting for a couple of trucks to pass, when there was a knock on the passenger side window. I almost choked on my own spit. Scared me half to death.
Looking out, I could see that kid again. I hadn’t seen him for some time, and I quickly bounced between curiosity and downright anger.
“What do you want?” I yelled out.
There was no response. Instead, the door just opened. It’d been locked. As he opened the door, he pointed to the glove box.
“You want his things?” I asked. “Is that it?”
He nodded. I wanted to lash out, but there was something telling me I shouldn’t. Instead, I reached over, opened the glove compartment, and pointed to the box.
“Just take it and leave me alone,” I said. “Get it over with.”

He reached in and grabbed the box. So much effort for a couple of mementos. I turned my head back to face the road. The kid backed out. But of course, I had to get the last word in.
“Not even a thank you, huh?”
That made him pause. He looked at me, tilting his head. As he opened his mouth to speak, a moth fluttered out. Then another. And another.
Then – darkness.

What happened next is hard to describe. My memory of it is fragmented. It’s like trying to watch a buffering video, where long stretches of it are just nothing – but you know something was supposed to happen in-between.
Blink. I was sitting in my car. There was a dark blue sky. No clouds, no stars. Figures in the distance. An open field with blue flowers bending to a howling wind. A powerful stench of ammonia stinging my nostrils. Something to my immediate left, ripping the car door straight off the hinges.
Blink. Running. Ruins of a town. It seemed familiar, but there was barely anything left. My leg was bleeding. I was being followed. No matter where I turned, or where I ran, I seemed to end up at the same intersection.
Blink. A three-story building, brimming with life. Glimpses of arm-long antennae through the broken windows. Clickety-clack of bursting wings tapping against crumbling concrete. A loud warning shriek as something rubs its legs together; a call for prey.
Blink. Hiding in a tipped-over trash container. The rain has stopped in mid-air. Raindrops held in indefinite suspension. I suck water drops out of the air to quench my thirst. My hands are shaking from the blood loss.

Countless little images. Some in order, some not. I have no idea how much time passed. In the moment, it must’ve been much longer than I can remember. Days. Weeks, even. There’s no way to tell.
Blink. Walking through a barren field. It feels like walking through a dead forest, but there are no trees. Only those willingly impaled and wailing.
Blink. An abandoned booth by a broken highway. A sign offers phone calls, in exchange for “real teeth”. There are six sizes of pliers hanging on a wall within. All are bloodied – even the small ones.
Blink. The church that had burned down the night before had reappeared. The people inside, too. They couldn’t leave. Tonight, they would burn again.

Somewhere in this nightmarish puzzle-pieced fragment of nothing, there was a constant drive in me to get away. To get out. I knew that if I’d gotten there, I could get back home again. I just had no idea how. Maybe finding the kid. Asking. Begging. Something.
The last fragment of memory from that space was being cornered in a cellar. They were banging on the door. I’d tipped over a wardrobe to keep them out, but they weren’t going to stop. They were never going to stop. I couldn’t let them kill me again – not like that.
One of the Changed ones were coming. I don’t know what that means, or how I know the name, but I knew of it. There was a mirror, and I could see the signs. It stepped out. Seven feet tall, black as night. Elongated arms and neck. Barely a body at all – just a void space vaguely shaped like the remnants of a person.
Except this one felt… familiar. It was the first one to speak.
“H E L L O.”

Blink. Running. A cold hand. If I squeezed too hard, my fingers went straight through it. I had to keep up. He was showing me something.
Blink. They were flooding over the school bus, tipping it by their sheer numbers. Eruptions from the sewer grates. They were famished.
Blink. An open field. Sunflowers facing me, no matter where I turn. It’s not far.
Blink. I look back, as I’m pushed over the edge. He looks just like the rest of them. They aren’t angered by his betrayal.
They feel nothing, as I fall.

In February of 2017, I was found by the side of the road. I’d been gone for months. My car was too. I came back with nothing but the clothes on my back and countless scars. I’ve been told that I didn’t make any sense at first; I was just rambling nonsense. Or maybe it just sounded like nonsense to these people.
Over time, I forgot more and more of these fragmented images. And the less I remember, the more I can move on. Still, I’ve written them down over time, and they paint an ugly, insane picture of what I’d been going through. Some of which I, myself, have a hard time believing. Then again, I know myself well enough to see that there’s no point in lying.

I haven’t seen Samuel, or that strange kid ever since. I think this is all over, for now. There’s nothing left for me to give.
But even now, years later, I still wake up to that feeling at night. That there’s something wrong, or that I’m forgetting something. That there’s something near that I’m looking straight through, or past.
And every now and then, I hear the flutter of a moth’s wing, tapping against my bedroom window.
And I think I know what it wants.
It wants me to go back.

So I want to address something that has popped up in the last couple of days. It's the idea that switching between PLA and PETG requires absolutely massive (2500+ mm³) purge, which looks to be about 1/3 of the bed.
After some research, I'm of the belief that this is not necessarily accurate for the MMU3 on the Mk4 - and we need more research.
The source of this idea comes from a single blog post online where Antalife did some research on a Mk3S using the MMU2S. But I think a new feature of the MMU3/Mk4 means this is not reflective of the Mk4/MMU3.
Prusa encountered a big problem with the Nextruder with the MMU3, and fixing this problem lead to the development of a stamping procedure for the Nextruder based machines, which should affect how much purge is needed to change materials.

• Prusa first noted in a blog article that accumulated plastic dust and debris was becoming a problem, and that started a series of delays for the MMU3 for the Mk4.
• Prusa noted in a subsequent blog article that the MMU3 should have less filament wasted than filament-cutting solutions, and noted that the Mk4's extruder was very different from the Mk3 and they needed more time.
• In October of 2023, they revealed the full extent of the problem they were dealing with and the solution they were pursuing. Strings of filament were accumulating in the Nextruder, and that was causing problems. In order to alleviate that - they developed a stamping procedure to shape the top and prevent the stringing.
  • This particular procedure is unique to the MMU3 on the Mk4. Being that Antalife's article was written for the MMU2S, it was not using the procedure that Prusa developed.
  • Antalife did mention there was a "DRIBBLING" update for PrusaSlicer that improved tip shape, but neglected to mention if that update was being used for the tests that led to the 2500 mm³ figure.
  • Prusa appears to have done extensive testing of the new stamping procedure.
  • The new stamping procedure is noted to reduce waste.
  • Prusa did thank Antalife, but noted their procedure is different.
• Prusa did make one more blog post announcing the shipment of the MMU3 for the Mk4 - and that the MMU3 on the Mk4 should be faster than "ultra-fast" printers with "MMU/AMS" systems - an obvious swing at Bambu.
• It should be noted that the new stamping procedure is solely for the Mk3.9/Mk4 - Prusa does not seem to mention using the procedure on the older machines without the Nextruder.

What I'd like to see in an updated experiment: - MMU3 on the Mk4 (or Mk3.9). - Updated firmware and updated profiles in the most recent PrusaSlicer. - Larger sample size. 10 samples is a bit small to be honest. - Different colors. It's known that the color of a material can greatly affect transitions. Transparent PETG could very well be a worst case scenario. - Verification of the experiment by somebody else, maybe CNC Kitchen can run his own tests - he seems to have really good methodology.
Tips for multimaterial supports, if you want to try them: - It may be the case that the Mk4 and MMU3 is the best hardware combination for multimaterial supports due to the stamping (other than just going full tool changer with the XL). - Note that PETG and PLA are the only materials that are extensively tested for the stamping procedure, Prusa does note that the MMU3 only officially supports those two materials for multimaterial printing. - Make sure the filament is dry - the more dry it is, the less problems with stringing it'll have. - Use the support material only for the interface - that minimizes the number of filament swaps. - At the end of the day - the best part is the part that doesn't need supports. If you have control over the design, think carefully about how it will be printed and how supports can be avoided. The parts for the Mk4 and MMU3 themselves don't require supports at all - and if complex parts for these machines can be made to never need supports, most items should be able to be designed to not need supports.
I'm open to possibly being wrong, but I think before we throw out the idea of multimaterial supports, we really should test it with Prusa's latest tech.

that have most amount of bosses are already completed ex:70- bosses as soon as you join the server.
why you would say? from a pvp player perspective its a pvp server, going thro 80+ bosses to kill every wipe every week and grind again is counter to whats called"pvp"
whats the goal? the goal of wipes is to reset the loot, bases, territories, shards but ease the 80+ boss progression, just make bosses below 70 lvl already completed.
let people fight for territories, shards, loot and farm legendaries again it will still keep the game fresh even if it wipes every 2-3days, people will comeback as long as there is no big progression wall after a wipe.
yes i know there are arena servers but many of us prefer open world server.
i am just burned already doing the same thing grinding for 1-2 days hoping to pvp then as soon as i reach endgame server is dead, and when it wipes the numbers still go down than the previous wipe, don't tell me its pve part what keeps people active its not.
