Management at Cadence Academy on Sleater Kinney keeps parents out of the loop by taking multiple children out of their classrooms for hours at a day to sit on the floor in the office and color because they will not limit kids due to short staff. Knowing parents pay hundreds of dollars a WEEK for their child to gain curriculum development as well as social and emotional skills. They consistently put teachers over ratio knowing it’s illegal. There is no support given to staff as they like to purposely turn their phones and walkies off making it difficult to get ahold of them when serious incidents occur. There has been multiple occasions where teachers call to report head injuries or fevers/throwing up and we can’t get ahold of them. There has been two teachers who have gotten wrongfully terminated because they defended themselves over a well known child who struggles with behavioral problems as serve as being psychically aggressive towards both teachers and other students. Both of these teachers would have to constantly defend themselves and the other students for the aggressive behavior and kept insisting for this child to be put on a behavioral plan but management refused. They are constantly making the staff do work they are too lazy to do. They are both known to lie and manipulate conversations discussed and when hr gets on their ass about mistakes THEY made they take it out on the teachers. An incident occurred where the head director gave a child a food he was allergic too and tried to blame the cook even though she was sent upstairs to do trainings and had no part with the lunch that was given out. They had a worker who hit her weed pen in the staff bathroom and let her get away with it. There was another worker who left a baby in the same diaper ALL DAY and again there was no write up or termination. There was a point in time where MULTIPLE teachers reported that a male teacher was taking pictures of the babies and posting them on his social media with inappropriate captions and sending them around on snapchat and not once did the director do anything until one of the teachers decided to take it into her own hands and call the police, the director then told parents the teacher left due to “family issues.” HR doesn’t give a shit about their employees either as they have been caught in a couple of lies. Both directors apparently cannot “deal” with harder kids as they ask some teachers to go resolve certain issues. PARENTS SPREAD THE WORD AND DO NOT ENROLL YOUR CHILD HERE!!

2024.05.26 06:43 _Alaeric You have two months to coach a complete beginner for a fight...

...In your art that you train. They have never trained or fought before. Their opponent is the same weight as them and has also never trained or fought before, but other than that you know nothing of them or their trainer. Fight is in two months.
Your and your student's living expenses, leave from work/study, and your fight camp are all completely sponsored. But the amount you spend is equally spent by your rival team. You are the sole coach and must call all the shots.
What's your game plan? In as much or as little detail as you want to give.
Mine for MMA:
  1. I'll focus on 3 win conditions: Rear Naked Choke, Guillotine Choke, Ground and pound.
  2. We'd train extensively in getting to the above. Snap downs and sprawls into Guillotine; Double and Single legs into G&P; Arm Drags and Slide By's from clinch and Peakout from stuffed shot: for back take RNC.
  3. Then we'd spend a lot of time defending from various attacks into doing the above. Such as: Defending strikes into clinch into arm drag. Defending takedowns into Sprawl. Getting off the ground or out of their guard, or Just Standing Uptm into G&P.
It'd all be very Wrestling focussed. Reason being I don't think two months is enough to incorporate much fight-realistic striking training without injury. Nor is it enough time to learn to fight well off your back when G&P is in the picture. That and, I think Wrestling is the best for fitness, conditioning and strength.
What's your game plan for your art?

🔗Automatic Resetting Airgun Target for Stress-Free Shooting Practice

The Birchwood Casey Airgun Gallery Resetting Target proved to be a reliable and durable accessory for my airgun. With its high-quality steel construction, the target remained sturdy even after countless lead pellet impacts. The innovative spin design of the target made it easy to use, as it automatically reset itself after each shot, saving me time and eliminating the hassle of manually resetting it.
One feature that stood out to me was the compact and portable design of the target. The lightweight construction and easy storage made it convenient to use in a variety of settings, making it perfect for airgun enthusiasts who enjoy practicing their skills outdoors or at a range.
However, one downside I experienced with the target was that it was designed specifically for lead pellets. This meant that attempting to use the target with anything else, such as 22 rimfire bullets, was not recommended due to potential damage to the target.
Overall, the Birchwood Casey Airgun Gallery Resetting Target provided a fun and effective way for me to practice my airgun shooting skills, thanks to its innovative features and reliable construction.

🔗Daisy NRA 5-Meter BB Targets for Enhanced Marksmanship and Championship Performance

I recently started practicing with a Daisy Air Rifle and noticed that improving my marksmanship was a key factor in mastering the sport. That's when I stumbled upon these official Daisy NRA 5-Meter BB Targets. They proved to be an essential addition to my training routine.
One striking feature was the precision and accuracy these targets provided. Perfect for honing my shooting skills, they're designed to help me feel confident, making my practice more productive. Another aspect I found fascinating was their bullseye illustration, which made targeting a breeze.
Additionally, their hanging mount proved quite practical as I could easily set them up for each session. What's more, each pack includes 50 targets, which, let's be honest, was more than I ever expected. This feature helped keep my training consistent and enjoyable.
Despite their excellent features, a drawback I discovered was that the targets weren't auto-resetting. It meant I needed to manually reset them between shots, which, while not detrimental, felt like an unnecessary extra step.
All in all, I found great value in the Daisy NRA 5-Meter BB Targets. They were reasonably priced, easy to order, and arrived promptly. Plus, their high rating speaks to their overall customer satisfaction. If you're looking to up your accuracy game, I'd give these targets a shot.

🔗Daisy Red Ryder Starter Kit - Pump BB Gun Accessories

https://preview.redd.it/x0mkax0l6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d2d86f16dc0ffba57edea3f6807fe10260d300f
The Daisy Red Ryder Starter Kit has been a game-changer in my household. It arrived at just the right time to complement my daughter's Red Ryder BB gun.
This kit has everything you could possibly need to kickstart a shooting adventure, including a durable gun sleeve, a tin of 25 assorted Red Ryder shooting gallery targets, and high-quality shooting glasses. The shooting glasses fit my daughter perfectly and she loves wearing them as they add a touch of coolness and safety to her shooting experience. The tin of BBs is conveniently designed and holds enough ammunition to keep the fun going for a while.
The targets, while simple, are perfect for honing her aim and precision. Overall, the Daisy Red Ryder Starter Kit has been an excellent investment, and I highly recommend it to any parent looking for a safe, fun, and affordable way to introduce their child to the thrill of target shooting.

🔗Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun Fun Shooting Kit

I recently tried the Daisy Red Ryder Fun Kit myself and had quite the adventure. Firstly, the set truly comes with everything you need for an exciting shooting experience. However, I must say, it took me a while to get used to it.
One of the key features of this kit is the renowned Red Ryder BB gun. It's smooth and easy to hold, but the accuracy was quite disappointing. I found myself missing targets more often than I would have liked. On the bright side, at least I could appreciate the classic design of the gun.
To enhance the shooting experience, the kit also comes with shooting glasses and a tin of BBs. I must admit, the glasses were convenient and provided some protection while I was busy aiming at targets. The BBs, however, seemed like a cheap alternative and didn't always penetrate the targets.
The fun paper targets provided were a nice touch, but the distance limitations of the gun took away some of the enjoyment. I had to be extremely close to hit the targets, and even then, it wasn't always accurate.
Overall, while the Daisy Red Ryder Fun Kit is a decent option for a beginner's shooting experience, I wouldn't recommend it for someone looking for better accuracy or quality. But if you're looking for an affordable and simple way to introduce a young one to the world of BB guns, it might just do the trick.

🔗Advanced Decelerator Rifle Cheek Pad for Enhanced Shooting Control

https://preview.redd.it/oxvfncvl6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8103fea27ffc805de488a1d0b4ee8bc7aacafbb0
As an avid hunter, I had been searching for a recoil pad that offered both advanced control and easy installation. When I stumbled upon the Pachmayr Decelerator Slip-On Pad, I was excited to give it a try. Upon receiving the pad, I was impressed by its sleek design and the attention to detail in its construction. The installation process was a breeze, and I was thrilled to see how seamlessly it fitted onto my rifle.
One of the standout features of the Decelerator Slip-On Pad was its unique speed mount insert. This innovative design not only enhanced the pad's appearance but also improved its performance. I noticed a significant decrease in felt recoil, which made my shooting experience more comfortable and enjoyable. Furthermore, the pad's non-slip and snag-free design was perfect for my active hunting lifestyle.
However, there were a couple of minor drawbacks that I encountered. Firstly, the pad did add an inch to the overall length of my rifle, which could be a concern for some hunters. Secondly, while the pad was available in three sizes, I wished there were even more options to cater to a wider range of firearms.
In summary, the Pachmayr Decelerator Slip-On Pad has become an invaluable addition to my hunting gear. Its combination of advanced recoil control, sleek design, and easy installation makes it a worthwhile investment for any serious sportsman. Despite the minor drawbacks, I am confident that this pad will continue to perform exceptionally well during my hunting expeditions.

🔗Car Vinyl Wrap Film for Remarkable Personalized Looks

https://preview.redd.it/q00vf2cm6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2142107320bdb54a7fd20b7d186d0e1d08fc680e
Recently, I tried out the Vicrez vzv10121-3 Vinyl Car Wrap Film in Matte Black Iron for a DIY project. The 5ft x 3ft wrap was easy to work with and came with a vast selection of colors, patterns, and finishes to choose from. Although it does require some basic installation knowledge, the wraps are simple to apply and can easily be removed without damaging the car's paint.
One of the standout features of this wrap is its air release technology, which makes for a smooth and effortless installation process. Additionally, the realistic car paint look provides an enhanced appearance for a fraction of what a traditional paint job would cost. The material is also incredibly durable, with a lifespan of 4-6 years for exterior applications and 8+ years for interior use.
However, the matte black color of my chosen wrap did prove somewhat challenging to work with at times. Also, the installation process can be tricky if you don't have experience with vinyl wraps, so it's definitely worth having some knowledge beforehand. Overall, the Vicrez Vinyl Wrap offers a stylish and functional solution for adding a personalized touch to your car or any other surface it can be applied to.

🔗Flexzilla Quiet-Flo Safety Nozzle for Modular Accessories System

https://preview.redd.it/y1jumvpm6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=429e0bad91afc0854531f081690d2e9e3c3c1b80
I recently had the chance to try out the Quiet-Flo Safety Nozzle from Flexzilla, and I have to say, it exceeded my expectations! The modular accessories system made it incredibly easy to customize the length of my extension and the tips for any job I tackled. It also met OSHA standards for professional use, giving me peace of mind as I worked.
The nozzle was perfect for my mechanics and automotive workshop, and it genuinely made my Flexzilla blow gun even better. While the nozzle was quite sturdy and held up well under pressure, it seemed a bit more challenging to twist and bend than I would have liked. Still, that minor inconvenience didn't stop me from enjoying the countless benefits of this nifty little safety nozzle. This product truly lives up to its 5.0 rating and is definitely worth trying out.

🔗Improve Accuracy with the Daisy Red Ryder Shooting Gallery Accessory

https://preview.redd.it/ezgqa41n6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb673850a598aae5a75b4405eccfa371bf21becd
Last week, I stumbled upon the Daisy Red Ryder Shooting Gallery while hunting for some new gear for my daughter's Red Ryder BB gun. As a parent, I thought this would be an excellent way to improve her shooting accuracy and provide hours of indoor fun for the whole family. With 25 assorted targets included, I was excited to give it a try.
The moment I opened the box, I was impressed by the simplicity of the design. It's just a small box with a rubber backing, and the targets easily punch out and attach to the front. The bottom trap efficiently collects the BBs, making it easy to reuse them for future sessions. Additionally, the rubber backing effectively stops BBs up to 350 fps, making it safe for indoor use.
However, there were some challenges I encountered during my experience. As a parent, I worried about the box being sturdy enough to withstand the force of the BBs. Although the included weight helped keep it steady, I still had to place it on a flat surface to prevent it from blowing over.
Additionally, I noticed that the product did not live up to the expectations set by the product images. The images show a gun carrying case and more accessories than what was delivered. While this was not a deal-breaker for me, it made me wonder if other customers had similar experiences.
Overall, the Daisy Red Ryder Shooting Gallery proved to be a fun and convenient way to practice our shooting skills, despite the lack of sturdiness and some unexpected differences from the advertised images.

🔗Stainless Steel PCP Charging System for Air Rifles

https://preview.redd.it/c0wlatro6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca3f2b9cf91ce439b8472bcd2b9e430ab28aa2cf
As a reviewer, I have to say the Benjamin PCP Charging System is quite the handy device for PCP air rifle users. When I first received it, I was amazed at how lightweight it was, making it incredibly convenient for carrying around. One nifty feature that caught my attention was the built-in pressure gauge that allowed for precise filling.
The system's construction has been quite impressive as it is made from carbon fiber, which prevents corrosion. It is also quite durable, offering peace of mind during long periods of use. However, there was a minor downside – the micro bore hose seemed a bit too short, making it a bit challenging to fill my PCP air rifle.
The inclusion of a stainless steel fill connection was another plus, as it ensured long-lasting use without any significant problems. The tank also filled quite quickly with my hand pump, providing great convenience and efficiency.
Overall, the Benjamin PCP Charging System has exceeded my expectations, offering a perfect balance between convenience, portability, and performance. I particularly appreciate how it has made refilling my PCP air rifle much faster and more enjoyable, making it a must-have accessory for any PCP air rifle enthusiast.

🔗Revel 1TR1AA002R VLS 52mm Water Temperature Gauge with OLED Display and Sensor

https://preview.redd.it/ur6cyp0p6p2d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8f827a1e57e46e74f641b0c7934190d6dd32492
I remember using the Revel VLS 52mm Water Temp Gauge on my air rifle just last season. The gauge is quite compact, making it perfect for small space mounting, like underneath my scope. The display is simply brilliant - it's digital OLED, which offers a deeper black and sharper contrast, delivering a crystal clear image that's easily readable even from a distance.
One of the cool features was its 30 LED outer ring. When I'm taking aim in low light conditions, it gave me the perfect level of visibility. Plus, its daisy chain compatibility made it so easy to attach multiple gauges without needing several power cords.
The included water temp sensor is another key feature. It helps me to monitor the engine's temperature even when I'm out in the field, ensuring everything runs smoothly. The mounting kit that comes with the gauge makes installation a breeze.
However, nothing's perfect, right? I did notice the water temp gauge tends to be a bit sensitive to vibrations if I'm not careful with handling it. Overall, though, it's a reliable and efficient little gauge that's made a big difference in my shooting session, and I highly recommend it.

The book stands out with its stylish presentation and beautifully curated information. It's not just a reference book, but a visual delight with its wide format that makes the colorful photos stand out. The detailed history of Daisy BB guns in the book makes it an essential read for enthusiasts and collectors.
However, the book could have been more comprehensive, providing more detailed information on each of the airgun models. It might be a bit light for those looking for a definitive guide on specific models or technical aspects. Despite this, the Daisy Air Rifles and BB Guns: The First 100 Years remains a must-have for anyone who cherishes their Daisy BB guns and wants to relive cherished childhood memories.

🔗Stylish Vinyl Car Wrap Film for an Enhanced Look

I recently bought the Vicrez magnetic fluorescent green car wrap for my truck, and I must say, I am impressed. It took a little bit of effort to apply it properly, but the air bubble release feature made it a lot simpler than I had anticipated. The wrap itself has a fantastic chameleon finish, which makes my truck look absolutely stunning.
One of the things I appreciate the most about this wrap is its removability. I can easily take it off at any time without damaging the original paint on my truck. It's reassuring to know that my vehicle's resale value remains intact.
The stretchability is another remarkable feature. It can stretch up to 300%, which makes the application process even more effortless. I was particularly thrilled when I found out that this wrap can be applied to complex curves, simple curves, flat surfaces, and even some compound, convex, and concave curves.
The only downside was the learning curve - it took some time to get the hang of applying the wrap without messing it up. But once I got the hang of it, the results were impressive. Overall, the Vicrez magnetic fluorescent green car wrap is a fantastic product that I highly recommend.

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Vicrez Vinyl Car Wrap Film in Chrome Satin Red, and I must say, I was quite impressed with the results! The installation process was a breeze with the help of the air release technology, and the vinyl was easy to work with, even for a novice like me.
One of the top features of this wrap is its realistic car paint look, which gives your vehicle a whole new dimension. It's also highly restorable, allowing for a quick fix if any wrinkles show up during installation. The vinyl is removable too, without damaging your car's paint, so you can switch up the look when you feel like it.
However, it's essential to note that the wrap isn't as easy to reposition once applied, so make sure you have your design in mind before finalizing the installation. The film is also quite thick at 6.4 mil, which adds to the durability but might make it a bit more challenging to apply in tight spaces.
Overall, I had a great experience using this wrap and would highly recommend it for anyone looking to give their car a unique, stylish makeover without breaking the bank. Plus, the wide variety of colors, textures, and finishes available ensures that you'll find the perfect fit for your vehicle.

🔗High-Pressure PCP Air Rifle Filling Pump with Stainless Steel Body and Precise Pressure Gauge

The 4500psi Airrifle Air Gas Filling Pump is a sturdy and durable device that has saved me a lot of time and effort when it comes to air rifle maintenance. The high-pressure hand pump's built-in oil-water separator and ergonomic handle make it comfortable to use, while the foldable design allows for easy storage and transportation.
One of the most notable features of this pump is its precise pressure gauge. It provides easy-to-read parameters and ensures that I fill my PCP cylinders safely and accurately. Additionally, the complete accessory kit comes with O-rings and tools suitable for most PCP pistols, rifles, and air guns, making it a versatile option for various applications.
However, I did encounter a minor issue with its 301 stainless steel construction, as it required extra force to operate at higher pressure levels. This could be a potential concern for users with limited upper body strength.
Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the performance of this 4500psi Airrifle Air Gas Filling Pump. It's a cost-effective and efficient option for anyone looking to maintain their air rifle with ease.

2024.05.26 06:20 itmyfoot Lifetime of gender pain please help?

Hello, for some background I am AFAB but have always been very Tom-boyish. My mom cut my hair short once and some kid called me a boy in a dress when I was like 4 and I decided I would never wear a dress ever again. I always felt so ugly as a tom-boy girl but hated wearing anything feminine and hated being perceived as feminine. On picture days my mom would put me in a dress and do my hair and all the boys would be like wtf??? You look like a girl? And I HATED that, felt disgusting. but honestly even though I hated wearing that I absolutely LOVE the fem aesthetic (on others?? I am attracted to very fem people)
I moved right before high school and tried to reinvent myself as a “girly girl” I have ADHD (undiagnosed until adulthood) so I was already used to playing a character at school, this worked great until I made actual friends and then they found out my personality is quite stereotypically manly. My girlies would always be like you’re our man because I’d lift heavy stuff for them or ask for things if they are too embarrassed stuff like that and I’ve never had an issue with it, actually loved that. It def felt gross when they would point out me being feminine even though that’s how I was trying to be perceived idk??? So that was a toss up. My issue is once I started dating I dated men and they would always say “you’re so pretty until you act like that (manly)” and that really hurt my already poor self esteem.
Now that I’m older and just dress however I feel and I notice I’m uncomfortable when anyone points out fem things about me (just feels awk idk and especially gross when it’s men saying it) and now for why I’m making this post: for some reason it’s also really painful when men (usually that I’m dating) call me too manly.
Now I’m just confused. I’ve been identifying as non-binary using any pronouns for about 5ish years but honestly I just hate the idea of gender as a whole. Now I kinda don’t understand why I get physically uncomfortable when people gender me as female but also get upset when men call me manly? Am I just dysphoric in both directions or do I just wish no one could perceive me ever? Anyone else gone through something like this? Can I train myself to not be so upset about how people perceive my gender??? Help pls this feels stupidly complicated for no reason

2024.05.26 06:20 pinpricksinvelvet The Skylar white treatment?

I was born in a small pocket of a big city up north. Single mom and couple siblings, lived with my grandparents most of my life. We didn’t have much and what we did we had by the skin of our teeth really.
I worked really hard, got into a good school, graduated, did an internship and made it out of my hometown! Thrilling!
And then I met my partner. He was like nobody I’d ever met. Audacious in most ways and then he’d surprise me with shyness. Bold and friendly, always making conversation.
We’d had really similar upbringings and had taken total different paths and still found each other. That’s pretty cool!
When we started dating, my mom flipped out. I was in my mid twenties, like fully out of the house, off the insurance type deal. She voluntarily and unexpectedly went no contact with me for two years from a picture. It was painful. But my partner put on a brave face, and he waited it out. Which was another surprise, for me and my mom. He and I drove up and he shook her hand on her property, and they immediately hit it off.
We laughed that day, about how much time she wasted. Look what you’ve been missing!!! He went above and beyond for me in ways people hadn’t before, and that was never lost on me. And I had actually had so much fun. Her loss!
At least now we could play catch up: I was going to be home with him on and off all year for a slew of weddings and accompanying events. You know, as one does when your childhood friends all settle down in the same summer 😀 what could possibly go wrong?
We made it to the first wedding. September. A great time! Someone broke their leg dancing and the dj played them off to evacuate the dance floor? I cannot make this shit up, but these kids share catholic school trauma and we cope with humor. Largely. Usually? I’ll get back to that. My partner and I spent a bit more time with my family, then packed up and drove home. We had just started vending at markets locally and had booked a steampunk event, hoping to find a crossover audience for our art. Neither of us is particularly into steampunk? At all. But he, in particular, fucking hated steampunk. (Seems so extraneous but I swear, this will be important later.)
We were slotted to be back in a few months for the next. And we’d see my family! My aging grandmother, who raised me. My aging dog! Sweet boy! Everything’s okay! I just got the job I’ve been vying for since my move (it’s a glorified carny role and I couldn’t be happier) things are looking up!
On a Friday, I had a panic attack after work. Which, with this new exciting job, was around 3 am. I came home, woke him up, sweaty and crying and stressed out and asked him to wash my hair? Which I had never done. I guess I was just really tired. And he said no, because he had to be up early for a get together with some friends. I cried though about all my fears. My grandma my dog my teeth and he talked me down, like no one else had ever bothered to.
We went to bed late, and I think as a kindness, he left without saying goodbye. I had to work that day, it’s why I wasn’t going along with him.
Then a few hours later, he just died. I say that, not to be crude, just because that’s my concept of how it went.
Communication was so poorly handled by everyone involved and it was so devastating, in retrospect. Genuinely removed my agency from the situation entirely from go. For example, I got the call from family about six hours after the fact, and they had only just received a knock at the door so off to a great start. I got DMs, actually, from people I hardly knew, asking what was going on. And I was like?? You tell me ? You know more than I do if you’re even reaching out, because at this point I haven’t heard from anyone who was at the scene. I had to request a number through Instagram, despite my number— and his mothers— being readily available to them by way of a well-known emergency contact card. Neither of us contacted directly, but people found out through ig somehow. Has never sat right with me. Felt so violating because basically everyone in a 30 mile radius knew what was going on before I was processing that it had happened.
And I knew he died the second I answered the phone. “Are you sitting down?” was a patronizing enough cold open, and the bullshit I was fed about a search was pretty transparent. The circumstances made thing cut and dry, he must be dead. So that’s that.
And he was, but they wouldn’t tell us officially till noon the next day. They found him with sonar 👍 something I wish I didn’t know. Idk why, I just don’t like it much. So impersonal. Not him.
This is where things get complicated and deeply uncomfortable for me. At this point, I’d experienced a lot of devastating loss in my immediate household as a kid. I grew up with disease and morbidity as a constant but not in a weird way? Think Addams? We used to call my grandma morticia, literally. My grandpa was paralyzed from the waist down. TWICE! Because he was drafted after healing his initial spinal cord injury from an auto accident. My family all lived on the same block and my grandfather watched all of us growing up. Which means all of us, at varying ages, watched one of the cousins wither and pass from cancer at 5. My grandma lost the use of her right arm but still had it, limp and swollen. She realearned pretty much everything on her left. We are nothing if not resilient!
And from childhood, I was well accustomed with saying goodbye to people I loved. I didn’t expect people in my life to treat me so differently after this specific death.
And goddamn it I’ve been to my fair share of funerals, if I could do anything for my partner as young widow with Roman Catholic roots, it’s to throw a decent and respectable funerals. With heavy food and good sweets, the butter cookies to distract the kids. And my partner loves funerals— in theory. He collected funereal antiques and oddities (I mean who doesn’t in 2024 am I right? /j?) we have matching his and hers model vaults, they’re out on the porch right now.
They told me to bring pictures. I’m a fine artist and he was self trained, so we had a lot of material and I came stacked to plan with them.
But it was already done. I was sitting his parents and siblings, and his least favorite aunt. I hardly ever saw her, red flag immediately. She is not particularly friendly to me, but she’s smiling. The only one lol.
Tell me why this lady was in charge of decorating, and was so excited about the WAIT FOR IT STEAMPUNK DECOR she picked up at fucking party city for a 35 year old man’s FUNERAL! A man who, in life, vehemently hated steampunk. And I laughed! Hard, because it was genuinely so funny. It is still so funny. Like, even my partner would find that hilarious kinda just by circumstance lol like in retrospect it’s kinda giving camp no? A funeral at the local teamsters hall with generic deli subs, and that aunt taking pictures with friends in the sorority pose for some reason.
This did set a devastating trend of completely bypassing me in any conversation, despite my partner and I sharing a home and bills for years prior to his death. We are not in a common law state and we hadn’t updated our information to reflect otherwise.
I didn’t communicate with the funeral home, I found out after the fact that they made the arrangements without me. The request was that we would receive back one lock of his hair, and his whole beard and his dentures (long story). While we did get the teeth, we only got back a (1) lock of his beard to share 😃 and he was cremated 😃 so that was a fun conversation, again, after the fact.
The GFM, the meal train, the life insurance all went across the street to his family’s house, where it largely stayed for almost whole the first year. Just long enough to burn all of my savings paying all the rent on a lease we signed a month before he died. Coupled with the economy, I’m setback so far on so many levels I feel like genuinely hope it’s but finances are the worst. I was getting regular eviction notices despite constant communication with my complex’s office about the situation, and I was never even technically late on my rent— by contract tenants have til the fourth and I never paid later than hat. Anyway it affected me like mental warfare and now I have crippling anxiety about housing.
His mom did help me, I think on the DL and only after they had remodeled their kitchen and gotten a new puppy. I was able to scrape by and get out, now I’m thriving in a studio with two cats in tow. A great look for a single woman in her thirties! I actually love the studio, and it puts me closer to the city, which I know is better for me opportunity wise (and boy howdy could I use an opportunity lol)
It also puts closer to the people who saw what happened and never had the good sense to tell me like I was a person. These were mostly old buddies, a decent handful of them and I didn’t know them well because my partner just didn’t really run in that circle anymore I guess. But they are all pretty well known in town. And within a few weeks of his death, it got back to me that my name was circling in the zeitgeist.
Over the past few years, it has been proven to me that these people have connections in every avenue of interest, even my profession. That sounds crazy maybe but it is true, mainly because I’m a transplant on their turf. But I moved here for the job? Which I wanted long before I met my partner. Why should I feel pushed out of an arena I fought so hard to play in? It’s been very isolating— I avoid most of the things I used to love because I cannot avoid an awkward run in. Conventions, themed events, even places we like to shop.
Anyway these are the basics but my phone is lagging so bad I almost can’t functionally type so I’m calling it for now... I hope this doesn’t sound too gruff, I’m just trying to live it as it comes. May add some context or anecdotes later. It’s been a wild couple of years and the people I thought would care just don’t seem to. So I appreciate anyone with the wherewithal to read this mess. Thanks.

Hello. I recently got a new motherboard (AsRock Riptide B650) and it takes 2 minutes to get any picture after boot up.
I have updated BIOS and booted a few times so I doubt it’s just “new system” training. Anyone have any ideas? I’m at a loss here.
Thank you so much in advance.

2024.05.26 05:45 zenhearting Will my apron belly go away?

I’m a 24F, my height is 5’4”, and have been trying to lose weight since December of last year. I’ve lost about 8 kgs since then, I started at 84kgs, now I’m at 76.5, but obviously, still a ways away from my ideal weight. I’ve had a belly ever since I gained weight at 12/13 years old.
Mid-way, I keep seeing posts of women saying the little pouch never really goes away, and I currently have an apron belly. There’s a distinctive line you can see from the front, and my stomach is not flat (as you can see in the pictures). Do all overweight people have that and it eventually goes away with weight loss? Or is there no way? I want to be ripped eventually…..and I’m trying my best. Calorie deficit, cardio, weight training, cutting sugar and processed food as much as I can. What else can I do?

2024.05.26 05:28 ScenemoCat have been severely abused throughout my life

im legitimately struggling because i got abused since i was a baby by my parents and society
so was born almost 18 years ago and my life has been hell since. i got put in my first time out as a baby at 2 or 3 by my aunt because i kept crying the whole way to virginia and she beat me for it. i was also a rather emotionally volatile baby and was prone to irritation and also never met many milestones others were reaching by 2 (ie full verbality, potty training, etc) and was then diagnosed with autism and the ppl told my parents i would never be able to read, even though ive read as early as 3. i was well loved at preschool, but there was lots of instability home.
neglectful adults, along with ones who would sometimes beat me, specifically my aunt. she once beat me for having a meltdown in the basement where i threw and broke a cup in. think i was 4 or 5 that time. kindergarten was horrible. i have very vague memories, but i remember being sat on by an adult in a separate room for having a meltdown, and other times adults yelling at or getting mad at me for no reason. i remember hyperfixating on a mask once, and an adult got pissed off about it and ripped the mask, making me cry. i started having extreme mood swings at this age and frquently would do things to avoid abandonment.
i then moved after kindergarten, making everything worse. i used to scream everyday, have constant low and high emotional oeriods, and would sometimes become violent. i was also constantly wanted to do the same thing my cousin would do, say mean stuff to her, grope her, etc and she hates me for it now and i don't blame her. i got better in 2nd grade but still. i also was an ass to my brother because i was jealous of all the attention he got as a younger sibling and especially with him being severely autistic. i would frequently lash out at him for things he couldn't control ie destroying things or constantly being hyperactive. this lasted till i was 16. i still messed up a bit at my current age but ive mostly improved, dont hit him anymore, and apologize when i lose patience.
also my parents were generally terrible, especially my mom. my mom would beat me over trivial things, ie meltdowns, cursing, etc, and we would frequently lash out at each other and then "make up". she would also have extremely high expectations of me, ie high grades, dressing conventionally, generally doing everything up to her standards. my mom would namecall me saying im selfish, ungrateful, an idiot a few times, and has beat me ranging from punching, to a hanger, to a metal spatula today. she would also threaten to withold care, beat me, has dismissed my disabilities as all in my head, and has lied to people about me to make me look "insane". meanwhile my dad was mostly passive but sometimes also emotionally abusive and SA'd me at 13. they also parentified me and forced me to look after my severely disabled brother alone as early as 9, which was also terrible considering my own disability
things genuinely got worse when i moved again at 10. being in a racist all white neighborhood was enough, at here barely anyone talks to me. im literally always ignored. i was also bullied like shit in middle school. also my cousin has been an ass since she was 13. she made a fucking 'joke' that i have kidney issues but my parents hid it from me, has insulted me, blamed me for her going to the same k-12 school as her when i was in middle school and her highschool because i urged my mom to have us go together. i get i was an annoying prick at times ie telling on her for a friends curse in text that grade and getting her in trouble even though she was 16 then, but nowadays she is extremely critical. she told me to get my life together for being avoidant and isolating myself because ill regret it later and itll be bad in college if i do it still and there's parties. also, she thinks my illness is in my head because of my moms gossip, is against me getting a degree i wont do as a career, doesn't want me to get a gender affirming surgeon for a boob job because the only real gender affirming care to her is top surgery, etc. she also watched me get beat by my mom and didnt do anything and this was when she was 21 and shes now 22. she also tried getting me to only go to college abroad if its in two areas with her because my parents are against me doing it abroad. she was also abused by her aunt, who is her mother but i still hate her using that as an excuse to abuse me.
my mom and dad divorced and things only got worse. i have called cps, talked to the school, etc and nothing has been done and i have faced ableism for being disabled from teachers to even a bus driver who had a problem with me using a cane. almost every legal agency can only help out if ur 18 or doesn't care about minors. ive also been mistreated by doctors who dont think im ill
im literally deadnamed on the daily by friend who know i dont want to be called my deadname
the worst part is whenever i tell adults they make excuses for my parents behavior too by saying 'they just love you', 'they want the best for you', or blaming me for lashing out.
im fucking tired of existing because im clearly not cared about or important. i feel like i deserved to be abused

Chapter 244: Assorted Roses
Click.
I blinked as the sound of snapping fingers swept away the sight of a spring garden, replacing it with the wooden steps of the Adventurer’s Guild.
Time resumed. A warm breeze tousled my hair. A cat escaped between my legs. And a hand waved in front of my face, directed again by a confused and slightly concerned maid.
At that moment … I came to a sudden realisation.
I needed to write a letter to Florella.
Specifically, I needed to write a request to borrow the anchor from The Gentle Princess.
Indeed, it was plain to me that I could no longer rely on the sensibilities of others. Just because I considered stealing away princesses to be the height of obtuseness didn’t mean others felt the same. Far from it, that seemed to be in vogue.
A large and weighty anchor, then.
Florella needed it as well, of course. But I needed it more. Why, she at least had a crew of ogres. If nothing else, they could paddle to keep the ship in place. But I had no such thing.
Hence … something large and weighty to tie around my waist, solving all my problems!
Naturally, I wasn’t stupid. I still needed a way to freely move between my bed and my bathtub.
In which case … I’d have someone else to carry the anchor for me! This meant the weight could still be attached to me, but without the resulting permanent back damage!
A solution as simple as it was genius, but still not without faults. A handful of servants groaning behind me was effective during formal functions, but when I was rolling across my orchard, that was simply distracting.
… Fortunately, I knew a handmaiden who could literally bear the weight of such a task!
Why, given her prodigious physical strength and unmatched loyalty, I was certain Coppelia could easily haul a giant anchor around all day, every day, all the while while I focused on whatever busy schedule I was ignoring!
“... Miss Coppelia, she suddenly stopped speaking again.” Renise waved her hand repeatedly. “I’m becoming somewhat concerned. Do you think she’s been struck by a paralysis rune? Perhaps one which works intermittently?”
My loyal anchor hauler leaned towards me, a curious smile playing at her lips.
“Hmmmm~ I feel an overwhelming need to shake my head. I think she was just ferried away.”
“Ferried away? What do you mean?”
“To the Fae Realm.”
“To the … excuse me? When?”
“Just now. She just made a face like this. Did you see it?”
Suddenly, Coppelia’s face became the picture of slovenliness. One as disgraceful as it was untrue, as declared in the non-disclosure contract she’d shortly be signing … and perhaps also Renise, judging by the way she slowly nodded.
“Yes, I … well, I saw it too. In fact, I was about to reach for my handkerchief. I feared she was about to start droo–”
I snapped to attention at once.
The picture of refined diligence. My back straightened. My shoulders relaxed. My eyes stopped half-shuttering and my hand wiped any evidence of impropriety from the side of my lips.
Princess mode, activated!
“Oho … ohoho … goodness me, did you see something?” I said, fanning my smile with my hand. “To think I’d encumbered myself to such an extent that sudden exhaustion would overtake me, rendering my facial faculties moot. I hope neither of you saw anything amiss during my few seconds of fatigue.”
Coppelia answered with a giggle that failed to be hidden by her hand. Especially since it wasn’t covering her mouth, but held out as though expecting to receive a bribe.
An utterly disgraceful suggestion. And one I’d negotiate with her at a later time.
“Miss Juliette,” said Renise, eyes widened as she displayed the correct tactfulness I expected from all the retainers whose salaries I didn’t pay. “Is … Is this true? Did you meet with the fae? … Just now?”
I brushed down the crystalline grass which didn’t exist.
“Indeed, I did. I had an audience with the Spring Queen, precisely as I did not wish. Frankly, we need to build the fae an embassy. This one-way aggravation is patently absurd. We need a method to fill their doorway with junk mail subscriptions taken out in their name every morning, just as we do with the Granholtz Embassy.”
“That’s … That’s quite something.”
“Not at all. A quill and an afternoon spent in a library is all that’s required.”
“No, I mean … regarding meeting the fae.”
“Well, I suppose that’s also something. But so is a burnt caramel flan. It’s hardly an enjoyable experience.”
Renise gulped. Even with that tiny movement, I could hear her trembling.
“Truly? Just … like that? You spoke with a fae queen?”
“Unfortunately, being blessed with wings means they’re not accustomed to queueing like the rest. Otherwise, they would have waited the several centuries required before my bored spirit was willing to entertain them.”
Renise slowly nodded. I wondered if she’d heard me.
“I … I can barely believe it. The fae. They … well, they do what they wish. But few times does that involve conversing with outsiders who do not accidentally wander into their realm. To be invited–”
“Abducted.”
“Yes, um … to be abducted is extraordinary.”
“Oh, I agree. All the few laws which exist between us and the fae, and they somehow routinely manage to break all of them. It’s a wonder they even have queens. Given their laissez-faire nature, I’m stunned the Fae Realm doesn’t operate like some village commune.”
I shuddered.
It could have been worse. Instead of being kidnapped by a fae queen, I could have been kidnapped by some fae community representative.
“I see … then, what did you speak about?” Renise clutched at her arms, fidgeting with the question on her mind. “I … I can hardly imagine the Spring Queen invited–”
“Ahem.”
“–abducted you merely based on what we were discussing. After all, I am unimportant. There’s simply no possibility … but by any chance, did you … ?”
I raised a brow.
“Miss Renise. You have been chosen by Crown Prince Roland, not only to serve as his attendant, but as the head of an organisation which in its infancy is still expected to derive great things for the kingdom. Do not refer to yourself as unimportant. Doing so insults all who hold those expectations.”
Renise blinked.
She straightened at once, matching my posture.
“My apologies,” she said, all her worries vanishing to a maidly sweep of professionalism. “It is poor of me to speak so uncouthly. I will do all I can to ensure Rose House flourishes. And how I represent myself as its head will dictate how well its vines grow.”
“Indeed. But you needn’t do so alone. Otherwise, you’ll soon find your vines swallowed by weeds until nothing is left but husk and thorns. To prevent such a tragic end, it is best if you possess an assortment of capable assistance. Rejoice, Miss Renise. Upon the last day of spring, your mother and father shall awaken from their slumber.”
Renise took a step back.
Hand to her mouth, she covered the words which failed to be voiced. But I knew them nonetheless. Her eyes glimmered as the moonlight reflected off the tears gathering like dew in the morning. Each was quenched by the disbelief apparent upon her face, as clear as the hundred questions she wished to ask.
And yet when all was done, there was no hint of uncertainty in her gaze.
Only a tired relief, as every thought of hopelessness she’d closed her mind to was allowed to peter away like raindrops in a distant field.
“... Truly?” she asked simply.
“Truly.”
“May I ask how?”
“You may. But the answer would only bore you. You need only know that it was a matter of expert statecraft, negotiation and diplomacy. And I did not exit the worse for it.”
Renise slowly nodded.
“I see,” she said simply, her voice calm and collected, even as a blurry haze gathered in her eyes. “In that case … thank you very much.”
I smiled.
But only to soothe the words I’d yet left unspoken.
“Miss Renise, that they should awaken is all I promise. Know that whether they greet the sight of a guillotine or their daughter’s smile is not in my hands. Crown Prince Roland is the ruler of Reitzlake, and it is in his city where they operated against him. I do not know them, and can offer no words in their defence. That is something you must do, should you wish to earn my brother’s reprieve.”
Renise’s hand fell from her lips.
But what appeared on her face was not of disconsolation. It was an assurance of her own worth. One I was glad to now see. She blinked to cut away the tears, then nodded.
“I will do that. I must … I shall convince him. My father and mother. They would put Baroness Arisa to shame. I’ve no doubt that even with their eyes closed, they still saw in the dark.”
“Yes, and this is a concern. I hope you understand it is not only I who shall see it this way as well.”
Renise nodded.
Suddenly, life lit up in her eyes, causing even the moon to pale. She parted her mouth as she looked at me, carefully considering the words she wished to say.
Instead, she smiled as she sent a swift glance around her.
Turning to me once again, she lifted the edges of her skirt and bent her knee in a formal curtsy. The very picture of a noblewoman. I should have them all wearing maid uniforms.
“With your permission, Your Highness, I will see to the matter of Baroness Arisa and her holdings. There are still questions I need to ask of her. Once I am done, I shall return to Reitzlake to see if I may persuade the Crown Prince to offer the leniency I believe is best for the kingdom.”
I offered a tidy nod.
“You may. But not just yet.”
As Renise offered me a look of puzzlement, I turned to the door of the Adventurer’s Guild.
The moment I opened it, a hush fell from within. Dozens of eyes wondered why I would grace their hooliganism another time. They could continue to wonder. I certainly wasn’t going inside.
Instead, I motioned as if I was writing in the air, then pointed towards myself. A parchment and quill was immediately on its way, courtesy of a receptionist’s magical courier service.
“There’s one important detail remaining,” I said as I caught the bundled writing tools. “As I neither know nor care who presides over this tract of countryside, I shall spell out the baroness’s judgement, to be delivered to her in person.”
Renise nodded, a sudden look of solemness upon her face.
“I understand … may I ask what it will be?”
I raised the feathery end of the quill to my lips, barely covering my smile.
For the crime of delaying my timely return to inspect the pillows building up outside my bedroom tower, there could be no fitting punishment but the harshest judgement … and yet it’s never said that I was a princess without mercy or compassion.
In fact, I was famed for it.
And anybody who said otherwise was on the next passenger manifest to Soap Island.
“Ohohohoho … why, I have a specific task in mind for her. One tailored to her specific skill set. For while her hands could doubtless craft passable soap, there are other ways someone of her calibre might begin her gruelling road to repentance.”
Indeed, my kingdom did not turn away talent. And neither did I.
I offered an angelic smile. And then awaited the eager nod, as all our maids were trained to do at opportune moments.
Oddly, it never came.

2024.05.26 04:55 Cool_Axolotl23 Looking for tips to train my mom how to feed fish

When I was on vacation, I had my mom only feed my fish. I was gone for about 3 weeks. Before I left, I had showed her how much to feed them. I had also showed her how to feed them. I had a large tank with 5 big goldfish 2+- years old each. 3 Comet, 1 Fantail, and 1 Ryukin. I also had floating plants. When I returned from vacation, 2 of the goldfish had died clearly from starvation (before I left, both were about 1 1/4 inches in width, when I returned, both were less than 1/3 inch in width). When I looked to see what happened to the food, all of it was mold on top of the floating plants. The plants were not hard to move out of the way, and I also had tweezers in front of the tank that she was aware she was welcome to use. She could clearly see where the food was going when she put it in. Most of the floating plants died shortly after that. The time I left after that, same tank, The biggest goldfish died of unknown causes (possibly swim bladder complications). When I was gone she sent me a picture of that fish dead, flopping around at the bottom of the tank in uneaten food. Easily half of the new container of fish food gone in a week. I miss those fish very much, I had them for almost 2 years each and had hand trained all of them. I want ideas how to teach her to feed them at the bare minimum. She is the only person available to take care of them. I've tried having her take a video how, but the video got lost in her camera roll.

2024.05.26 04:42 lovelife900 A Valuable System for Self-growth and Discovery

This article is a concise depiction of the profound way that I am strolling upon.
I think for any way to be possible there should be sure approaches to expanding our understandings and acknowledge. For my situation, I was shown how to decipher dream and reflection images. The critical principal parts of my way are :
  1. Reflection
  2. Dreams and vision understanding.
Numerous different modalities, go about as auxiliary backings along the way. In any case, the essence of the way basically lies in steady reflection and dream/vision translations. It is maybe conceivable not to reflect, gave we and Nashik call girls stay delicate to approaching instincts and different method for getting experiences and self-disclosures. Pendulum perusing has an impact in filling a portion of the jobs performed by meditational vision translation, however it is surely not as adaptable. This is on the grounds that the readings that we get from pendulums are restricted by the kind of graphs we use. In another word, dreams can have endless varieties, while pendulum outlines can give us replies inside their scope of choices.
Moreover, Reiki attunements helped in expanding my and Shirdi call girl’s aversion to energies.
I basically can’t stress more on the job dream/vision translation plays in self-development speed increase. It is extremely viable in developing our understandings and in changing ourselves. Preceding knowing how to decipher dreams, progress was delayed for me. Dream understanding fundamentally opened up better approaches for getting nitty gritty data fundamental for my proceeded with self-development.
I don’t think there are any firm principles to self-revelation. Carrying on with Life itself is the way. Be that as it may, I and Surat call girls really do put stock practically speaking and consistency, if we somehow managed to accomplish any positive outcomes.
I have been a meditator for a long time… It was around quite a while back that I found that I am on occasion getting dreams/pictures/experiences to me that informed me about specific things. Frequently these dreams uncovered just what was reasonable by me out of the blue of my excursion. It was at this early phase of vision-getting, that I and Bhopal call girls met a profoundly Edified Educator who showed me the ongoing strategy that included dream understanding. I’m really appreciative to that Instructor.
Along my way, there were on occasion, what seemed, by all accounts, to be previous existences sentiments surfacing onto my and Gwalior call girl’s cognizant brain. These sentiments were for the most part awful, however acknowledging them permitted me to comprehend the explanation of my current life fears. In view of the possibly surprising and now and again undesirable encounters of previous existence emotional re-living, I firmly feel that one in particular who is centered around advancing in a genuine way endeavor to uncover previous existence encounters. Previous existence revealing should be treated with deference.
Indeed, this is my arrangement of training basically. As may be obvious, the way is very adaptable as in it is completely coordinated into my life encounters and it doesn’t exactly introduce itself as a different undertaking. Likewise, every individual way will be interesting and not the same as others. This is chiefly on the grounds that, every single one of us and Ujjain call girls , have various issues and regions that required tending to.
I perceive that various kinds of way can prompt also helpful outcomes. Maybe, the outer articulations of various ways frequently gives a false representation of comparable elements under the contrasting veneer.

2024.05.26 04:33 Huge-Scene6139 Decided try my hand at an OC

Name: Vieri Russo
Quirk: Bladed Hands and Counter.
He can change his hands into cone shaped hands at will (Picture Swordkill from Two Heroes) Counter allows him to to absorb Physical Blows and release them on his opponent with up to triple the power. The Downsides are that his hands will become stiff after excessive Quirk Use, and his body will become sore if he uses Counter too much. This forces him to constantly train his body to improve his stamina.
Bio: Vieri is an Italian Hero turned vigilante who is a supporter of the group called Justice Without Borders (JWB), he believes that heroes should have full jurisdiction to fight villains. Once the the Italian government learned of this, he was disowned and branded as an enemy of the state. He moved to Japan to enact the JWB’s ideology on the villains there. He is introduced during the summer camp arc, killing Mustard and Swordfish while no one is watching. After the battle between All Might and AFO, he is contracted by higher ups in the Japanese Gov’t to eliminate potential supporters of the Shie Hassaikai, (Gangs, up-and-comming Villains, etc) He is then ordered to assassinate Aoyama after the JWB learns that the he is a mole in UA. He fails however, and is sent to Tartarus.
During the attack on Tartarus, he slips away and flees into the city, he kills many of the villains who escaped (Eight Bullets Members, etc.)
I need some help concluding his story that doesn’t involve a cliché redemption/death, feedback is welcome!

2024.05.26 03:30 mikeramp72 Endgame #17

17th: Terry Deitz 1.0 (Panama - 3rd)

cant let gang (regnis) know i fw this
THIS WRITEUP IS (AS EXPECTED) REALLY LONG AND I HAVE TO SPLIT THIS WRITEUP IN TWO AND SEPARATE BLURBS AND POINTS AGAIN LOL
u/Regnisyak1:
Terry Deitz 1.0 (Panama, 3/16)
Terry Deitz has one of the best deconstructions of a character on Survivor, full stop. I think people tend to think of me as crazy for having Terry in my top 5 of all time, but he checks so many boxes for characters that I tend to find great, and I find him to be transcendent. First is that he by all means should be the underdog of the season, and he is… but not without being described as both God and Satan in the same breath as a Casaya member. He represents the role of leadership so strongly in the season as well, which is a prevailing theme that exists throughout. So many principles are represented in his character too, like groupthink, the wearing down of someone, the effects of being a pariah, and his emotions boiling over. I am so glad that Terry was able to get this high in the rankdown, and I want to shout out to my rankers for letting me get away with murder in this situation.
I firmly believe that Terry is an endgame level, though, and while I do think that is a rather hard sell for some people, I hope I can describe why I feel so strongly about this in the following write-up. So where to start? We’ll look at Terry broadly with his relationships, both with La Mina and Casaya. Something underrated with Terry is that he talks to almost everyone on the season, sans Tina, BobDawg, and Melinda, and with each person, we understand how deep their relationships are. I’ve talked about La Mina a lot this rankdown, but I just want to summarize them again in the following paragraphs so I can have them for y’all to quickly reference, and angle it more from Terry’s POV. What I have been neglecting however is Terry’s relationships with those in Gitanos, and how one by one, they knock down his spirit but he refuses to give up throughout the game. Casaya knows Terry’s strength, and at this point, he becomes the ultimate adversary. He gets sucked so beautifully in Casaya’s conflict in the season, and I think it is a great message on negativity and the cloud it can spread and the fear of first perceptions. Ultimately, Terry meets and exceeds several of the themes that I’ve talked about Panama throughout this rankdown, with his leadership, and the ever-prevailing age and gender themes. Within each relationship, I hope to explain his relationship in the context of that, along with the deconstruction of his underdog status. So let’s get this write-up on the road, shall we?
Part I: Terry & La Mina
Terry’s role in La Mina was quickly defined, even from his early days when the tribe was originally the older men - he knew that he was the strongest person in the tribe, and immediately put his head in the game. We quickly see his work ethic showcased to the other members, and Terry quickly gets complimented for how he is playing the game. He quickly comments on his pride in the Air Force, and that established relationship with the United States quickly sees him as a trusted leader of the tribe, and he gets legitimacy quickly. Quickly, the impact of Terry and his strong work ethic becomes necessary for those in La Mina. He’s the most active member of the tribe, they completely disintegrate whenever he disappears, and he becomes a God in the eyes of the tribe, specifically Austin and Nick, through his manners in the game, how well of a leader he is, and his gameplay.
But, of course, there’s a minor issue - La Mina keeps getting destroyed by a physically weaker tribe, who undeniably have more chaotic tribe dynamics. Why? Well… you know where I am going with this - the concept of Age and Gender plays a dramatic role in the downfall of La Mina because of the strict lines on the tribe that Terry created. Terry, while putting on the aura of having the ability to lead the tribe, is ultimately the one screwing it up. Further, with his tribe, the consequences of having a groupthink mantra take over the tribe, leading to a false perception of strength. Terry’s strong leadership is ultimately the downfall of the tribe, and the contradiction is fascinating. Let’s deep dive into those themes though, shall we?
Part I.I: Age and Gender on La Mina
A classic theme that I have hope that I portrayed in this rankdown was how even though age and gender at first seemed like a frivolous manner of the season, the consequences of putting the teams in that theming for even just one vote had impacts on the season that rifled through. Often, I complain about theming on Survivor as being negative, when they are made-up titles (see HHH or my several 100 cuts on DvG). The made-up ones seem like they are performing to that title, rather than letting themselves flourish from the natural ones that society, fortunately or not, grants to people. Age and gender perception are two necessities that allow people to form heuristics in society and are integral for managing society. This unfortunately can turn into stereotypes, which is something we can often see on Survivor, but notably on La Mina.
Almost immediately with the newly tribe-swapped La Mina, we see Terry thinking in the original tribal lines of the season. Instead of acting with the women, he immediately turns on them and creates his all-guys alliance, which consists of the astronaut, John Grisham, and the machete swinger. The strong men of the tribe come together, and in a sense create a patriarchial society within La Mina, almost instantly. We see this become evident when they take control of the camp with the basic attempts of survival, whether it is Nick and Austin becoming the lead hunters, Sally losing her spear almost immediately going into the episode, or Dan being seen as the wise sort on the tribe where people feel they can entrust information.
Ultimately, the men in the tribe lead, which leads to discomfort from the women. It can come across as really subtle, but this is a special reason why I love Sally so much. She pushes that narrative across because we know that she doesn’t get along with really anyone in their tribe, besides Misty, and she was ousted almost immediately. Largely, it is due to Terry’s initial organization of the tribe, and the groupthink that surrounded it, that left Sally on the outs. However, there are two examples that most highlight Terry’s desires for the all-men alliance to stick together: Misty and RuMa
Part I.I.I: Misty
Misty is immediately deemed as a target, due to her promiscuous nature on the tribe. However, it’s not Austin, not Nick, not Sally, not Dan that wants her out - it’s Terry. Terry was so worried about the threat of women dominating and taking over the alliance that he took over at this point. This is the first real negative but also positive trait that we learn about Terry - he is determined to be right, determined to be in charge, and determined to be the leader of the tribe, at any cost. Misty is the first domino of Terry in this game, and how old-school he is playing with him desiring to keep a strong alliance of four to the end, one that includes strength.
The representation of Misty, arguably one of the most overt flirtatious people to play the game, and the contradiction to Terry’s more controlling and conservative nature is why I will always appreciate her character, even if I have her 16/16 for the cast. Misty showed strength by surviving exile, was a threat to the alliance with the potential of having the idol (which Terry had that point), but was more importantly deemed as dangerous for being a woman, and someone who could potentially break Terry’s ego and leadership style due to her unorthodox style of play.
Part I.I.II: Ruth Marie
At first glance, I think there are some stark differences between Misty and Ruth-Marie and their eliminations on La Mina, and how they were fodder for the team. However, deep down, they were both voted for the same reason - women in the tribe who were deemed as weaker. The connection of the tribe and their desire for tribe strength became a full force for Ruth-Marie and her vote out. What’ 's more important here however is the dichotomy between Ruth Marie and her age, versus Terry and Dan staying around for longer. Terry and Dan are the old geezers of the tribe, with Dan being actively older, weaker, and more awkward in challenges (he is tall). But, the men stick together, and Ruth-Marie is an obvious boot for the tribe. Sally instigates most of this with her begging to stay, and Terry can’t deny that factor. The funny contradiction about Ruth-Marie, however, and something I pointed out in my original writeup, is that she was probably much more athletic than Sally (see the first challenge where she outsprinted some of the other women) and it was likely due to the initial perception of the tribe, and the condensing of groupthink that existed on La Mina.
Ultimately, Ruth-Marie represents the next domino to fall on the tribe and Terry - loyalty or tribe strength. Yes, Ruth-Marie was never included in their vote, but something that she was playing was the firm vote for the men on the tribe, due to her close connection to Dan on the tribe, and how they were getting along. I think there are several reasons why Terry wanted to get Ruth-Marie out, whether it be to separate the duo of Dan and Ruth Marie to prevent a flip or the deep desire to win a challenge to get morale out, and seeing Ruth Marie. Whatever the reason, Terry was the instigator of the vote. Everyone was set on Sally, but then he pushed the spotlight onto Ruth-Marie and she was ousted. And the other important thing about them? Terry, at RuMa’s tribal, was seen as the hero, and that was one of the most evident examples of praise toward Terry because he was being showered with it, both from Jeff and La Mina.
Ultimately, with both RuMa and Misty, Terry opted to go for the men and chose to eliminate those different from him. It seems more basic than that when at first glance, but understanding the context of Terry - someone who needs to have control, as someone who was a leader of troops in the Air Force, he needed to eliminate those that could fall out of line, or cause defection.
Part I.II: Groupthink
For me, the most interesting aspect of Panama is the formation of the tribes, and how groups are selected with one another. I think the schoolyard pick in this season is one of the best examples of showing that phenomenon in Survivor. With Casaya, we immediately get their MO - they are just picking based completely on first perceptions, but with completely random criteria - Cirie seems like a mom, Boston tattoo, the free-spirited girl, etc., etc. They were selected more on the potential for archetypes. La Mina though? Ever notice something about them? The tribe was completely white. Besides going into formation with Terry’s beliefs and perhaps assumptions of people falling out of line, the picking La Mina showcases where they go wrong - they were picking people similar to each other, and more importantly, those who wouldn’t feel the need to dissent.
How humans pick groups by their own vices is probably one of the most interesting things about social psychology is one of the most interesting ideas for me, and I love how it transitions La Mina from a tribe that dominates, to one that has to face the consequences of what they need and understand the importance of conflict for the tribe. Ultimately, La Mina very deservingly gets credit for being a lackluster tribe due to the lack of conflict, but it is integral to their stories and the story of Panama because no dissent means the spiraling effect of the tribe, and how the survival aspect of the game almost takes over and effectively ruins and hampers their game. No one could speak up and it led to the toilet.
But the important thing about groupthink is contextualized with Terry and his desire to keep control. Terry doesn’t realize the groupthink because it is his thought that is getting pushed through with the tribe. He is always right, he is deemed as right, and he knows that the tribe would fail without him. Three characters properly showcase his efforts of groupthink, and unsurprisingly, they are the men of the tribe. Dan, Nick, and Austin showcase the failures of his groupthink, and how they are all in line with Terry, whether it benefits the tribe or not.
Part I.II.I: Dan
One of the most fascinating aspects of Terry’s character is his friendship with Dan on the island. The two immediately get along due to sharing one common trait - they’ve been in the sky before! The dichotomy of Dan and Terry is really interesting because one person is more about life wisdom, while the other is about tribal strength. Further, Terry has the more dominant personality (I hate that I am saying this, but I guess “alpha” personality) in comparison to Dan, which makes him seem much weaker than the others, especially in challenges. Dan is a pretty bad challenge performer, even in puzzles, and it becomes notable. But, Terry continues to keep Dan around, even though he is notably weaker. This is to keep the alliance alive to have a semblance among the men and to show he is not wavering or thinking about his game anymore.
But it catches up to Dan, and it leads to the third domino in Terry’s story - the loss of an actual friend. I have gushed so far about how much I love Dan’s elimination episode, but I think the heartbreaking part about it is truly Terry’s decision to jump ship and vote out his closest ally. Sally, one of the luckiest Survivor players in the history of the show, is sent to Exile, and by that point, there are no options, and a solemn decision has to be made. And Terry isn’t fucking around either, not even offering to vote with Dan in a vote of solidarity to make it go to fire. Ultimately, Dan did lose that challenge for the tribe today, and I think at this point we can see his dissatisfaction with Dan finally come to the front. Merge has no signs of coming soon, and Terry’s main priority is tribal strength. Dan’s blinding faith and loyalty lead to his downfall, and Terry’s attitude toward the game dominates at this point.
Of course, hindsight is 20/20, and Terry never knew that merge was coming the next day, but I think everyone was assuming it at some point, which is why I especially always found his decision to not even let it up to a fire-making challenge to be so harsh and cutthroat. Ultimately, Terry did preach a loyal game, and we saw him make the tighter connections with Dan, but tribe strength and youth, or at least the perception of it, came into play further.
Part I.II.II: Nick & Austin
And, speaking of youth and perception, it’s time to talk about Nick “follow your dreams” Stanbury and John Grisham. Their dynamic most pointed to a groupthink ideal because they were Terry’s lapdogs following the Misty vote. I can’t emphasize enough how important Misty’s vote for La Mina was for Terry because it finally got Austin and Nick completely on his side for the all-men alliance.
Both men serve similar roles in Terry’s story, basically acting as Terry’s children. Terry acting as a parental figure is one of the most interesting things about his premerge because it is one of the leading ways he can get people on their side. Terry’s strength is being able to survive in the wilderness, with almost no effort at all, and making it seem easy at points. Terry’s eager “children” Austin and Nick follow behind him in that effort, and attempt to act like him, even when he is away from camp. Their relationship reminds me of a kid getting up early to get dressed with their dad and trying to put on their necktie and tie it the same way.
Now granted, I am not trying to infantilize Austin and Nick because I think they were grown men out there and had their abilities to survive, but it is hard to ignore when they were just so starstruck with Terry and his amazing abilities to survive in the wild. But I think it is further reinforced when they flop so much considering the bean fiasco where they shit their brains out, as well as Nick letting the spear disappear and his clear mishandling of the machete, or Austin and his terrible gameplay following the merge. These are people who clearly needed to be online, and I always found that whenever they weren’t attached to the hip with Terry, they began to deviate from the norms and make failures. Terry was a needed Survivor figure for them, almost acting as their father who he fished with, and the leadership that he displayed for both men on the tribe was integral in keeping them alive, both physically and in the game of Survivor.
La Mina is the perfect representation of groupthink on Survivor, and one of the most perfect representations in general. A clear enemy was created, both within the tribe (Misty, RuMa) and the opposing external threats of Casaya. The group followed a leader, rarely met any sort of dissension, and were ready to fall in line with Terry. The entire context of this given the many roles that Terry was playing in the season. The father, the veteran, is the underdog after the disintegration of the tribe. Much of La Mina is necessary in setting up the fact that Terry is a leader, but he has his failures with the tribe, and he cannot even recognize them. They rally around the preconceptions they had when choosing the group, and it leads to hit after hit after hit.
Why La Mina is such a trainwreck tribe is clearly one question that I find to be fun to answer on Survivor. They are a mess when on paper, they shouldn’t be. But sometimes, similarities can lead to short-sighted behavior and a lack of conversation about how the group should change. Their entitlement to being on the tribe is crazy, and I think the hope that they continue to force and maintain throughout the season is equally fascinating.
However, with Terry, another big question comes up for his character… what happens? Terry begins the game as someone who is applauded by the tribe, but then the leader loses his role with Casaya, and his charm disappears. Only one thing can explain Terry’s downfall and disintegration of the war hero - a loss of control, the age and gender politics of Casaya, and his opposing leadership to the group of Casaya.
Part II: Spiral - From Leader to Nuisance
Probably the time when Terry is the funniest is immediately following the merge. At that point, La Mina is fucked, up a creek, dead in the water. They have to find ways to wiggle into the game, and through that by the cracks on the seemingly fractured and messy Casaya. But to the surprise of everyone, from Casaya to La Mina, to the audience at home, Casaya is a brick wall. And Terry fucking tries EVERYTHING! From getting Bruce to meander over to finding out where Courtney lays, to trying to get the queen of not starting drama, Cirie, to flop over to their side. And nothing happens. Nothing. Nick, Austin, and Sally get picked off one by one, and at this point, Terry is a lone soldier. But before we get into the soldier portion I think we need to talk about three of Terry’s friends in the game, just to understand how the part of Terry being a leader to the annoying nuisance on Gitanos starts: Welcome to the show Bruce, Sally and the biggest character of the season, the God Idol.
Part II.I: God Idol
Terry’s god idol is perhaps the biggest part of his game and character and I can completely understand others’ criticism of him in the game. The threat of his idol becomes a necessary conflict starter and fear stirrer as the game starts. At this point, his having the idol is known but unknown, and the question is when he plays it, and how they flush it. The split vote hasn’t existed at this point, so the strategy is rudimentary around the idol this season, and I think it’s interesting how it is used as a way to coast.
Now I know what you all are thinking at this point - “Reg you hate advantages like that. What makes Terry different?” You would be correct to make that assessment, given my takes, hatred of the 30s, and overall perceptions and negativities about Survivor and its unsuccessful evolutions. But I can excuse Terry’s idol for several reasons. One is that it doesn’t feel like a nuisance, in the sense that Terry himself is an incredibly engaging, charismatic narrator, unlike someone like Yul. There’s a genuine fear that Terry could have the potential to win the game, and I think the concept of that is really interesting. Terry has 0 power at this point in the game, unlike Yul or Tony, and the god idol creates that tension where the possibility of Terry winning seems more and more realistic. As we switch into postmerge, Terry winning seems more like a possibility as he becomes the unmovable boulder that Casaya has to find themselves working around. It’s a natural starter of conflict, and fear that he could pass it off to someone else. The other important distinction with the idol, and something I haven’t mentioned is that Terry is a beast at challenges. He destroyed all of them and continues to hold a record for having the most in the season. The God Idol doesn’t really have a role in the season, except for whenever Deitz doesn’t have immunity, which only happens a few times. And, we have to ask ourselves what is more entertaining - Casaya eating each other while Terry is coasting by, or them voting him out ceremoniously. It’s a rare time that I think an idol enhances the story and another time when an immunity challenge beast can do it so well.
Terry should not be a natural in creating conflict, besides some of his views falling along the lines of more traditional thoughts in society, but in reality, Terry is FORCED into a position of conflict when he is put in a place where he isn’t normally - the underdog. The idol makes him become detested by the tribe as he has the opportunity to coast to the end of the game, and it leads to the nasty side of Terry coming out. It puts him in the role of the social pariah, and his rise from zero to hero involves the negativities surrounding the idol, his controlling nature puts him out of the picture and leads to the increase of discontent on the island.
Inherently, yes, the God Idol is a problematic advantage in Survivor, just due to the sheer overpowering of it in advantages and strategy, and I am very grateful that it changed in Fiji. But, I think given Panama and its strong, volatile personalities, role subversions, and desire for control in the game, the God Idol works in this situation as a looming threat that creates a potential for danger and intrigue. The mystery of it, the difficulties of working around it, and the nightmare that it creates for Casaya make it much more worth it in my eyes.
Part II.II: Sally
Sally and Terry have a relationship that I would consider one of the most underrated in Survivor. They meet all the themes that I previously mentioned from La Mina, including gender, age, and groupthink. With gender, Sally is seen as a threat but continues to be someone who can coast by due to luck or strategy, and this leads Terry to be in conflicting positions on the La Mina tribe. With age, see Misty. Both are deemed as pariahs due to them using their sexuality, but with Sally, we can tell she is uncomfortable with Misty doing that, but Terry refuses to listen to that. And lastly, with groupthink, Sally was one of the few active voices against Terry in the tribe. She constantly criticized the all-men alliance, especially because she was on the outside of the group, and was one of the few people who saw through it and recognized the inner politics of La Mina, and how they were negatively discriminatory against her.
But, how does Sally contribute to the spiral? Probably the most interesting concept about their relationship was how they reconciled after the merge occurred, due to being at the bottom almost immediately against the dominating Casaya tribe. I think they admitted that there was a father-daughter relationship between them, but something always seemed tense between the two because they both wanted each other mutually out. Sally represented the lack of tribe strength, while Terry represented the tribe's isolation. And as Terry saw, his two closest allies, Nick and Austin went out back to back. The only way to potentially save his side and get people to jump is with Sally, who could potentially pull in the two women on Casaya because we know their relationship with Shane. But, while the idol debate of whether or not Terry would be willing to give up the idol became null and void - he lets her go and attempts to rely on the social relationships he created, even if they weren’t successful.
This is important for one reason - Terry is 100% playing for himself at this point, and he always was. At that point at the merge, with his all his allies going home, why on earth would he save Sally? I think this was a cutthroat move in a lot of senses because he truly isolated himself at this point, but would have preferred himself over someone who could jump ship on him at that point in the game. Sally is the final domino for Terry, in terms of his downfall from loyalty and attempting to play a collecitivist game, to him going guns blazing and burning the camp down one by one. It’s a great moment for both of their character and while it probably does seem like a moment where false suspense is playing a role at tribal, the tensions that were already established between Terry and Sally finally take center stage, and watching him not play the idol for her game makes complete sense for him.
Part II.III: Bruce
One relationship that I think represented the true “Terry is screwed with La Mina” is with Bruce, oddly enough. Bruce is a great fantastic supporting throughout the season, but I think one of his shining moments is with Terry, and how he stiffs him following the tribal. Casaya treated Bruce like crap, more often than not, with their entitlement toward him and judgment of him sitting on the sidelines, and Terry really thought he had an opportunity with Bruce, especially due to their previous connection on the 3-day tribe with La Mina earlier on in the game.
Even though we understand Bruce and flipping could be a possible proposition, I think there is one key difference between the two men - how they value the themes of the season, and the “nurture” of their previous tribe, Casaya or La Mina. One thing that Casaya rarely does is outwardly discuss age or gender differences - along with race, most of their conflict is derived from a conflicting yet subtle set of differences in the tribe. Everyone more or less “gets along” (a better term might be “mutually hate”), but alliances are created without much care for gender or age differences - that comes with how they act in the tribe. With La Mina, those surface traits of age and gender affected how the tribe and each other perceived one another, and created conflict among each other. With Bruce, the original attachment of their initial tribes means nothing - he created a new home over here, and even though mutual conflict exists in so many different avenues on Casaya, ultimately he had been there longer, and the divisions of the early game are non-existent.
The dichotomy of Bruce and Terry and how they are depicted with their similarities in age represents an important mirror between the two characters and how age is perceived differently between the two groups. Bruce is considered a wildcard more often than not, due to his lack of attention on the tribe. He uses it to his advantage as seen as more a wise soldier, such as Dan on La Mina, and it allows him to skate by, even as people get more disappointed in him as time rolls by. With Terry, we understand him coming onto strong, and I think that pride differed from Bruce and officially sealed the record that he lacks comfort to work with Terry, along with fear from the wrath of Casaya.
Overall, Terry’s spiral to the villain of the season begins innocently enough. He attempts to jump ship or try to convince people to join, having no recognition of just how deep the tribal lines are. Terry perceives that his smile, charm, wit, and charisma will lead him to success when that just isn’t how Survivor works sometimes. His dissolution from being the hero, strong leader, and tireless work of La Mina, to the villainized underdog on Gitanos begins innocently enough, but it’s his overconfidence in the situation that pushes him away. The dichotomy with how it scares off Casaya but encourages La Mina creates a natural internal conflict in Terry and has to encourage him to rethink the game. Which, of course, leads him to become a Casaya, and get overwhelmed with the negativity.
INTERMISSION: Trish Deitz
Before I move on babbling about the other people Terry has involvement within Panama, I want to take a moment to give praise to Terry Deitz. So if you need a break… then take a break from reading after this! Trish Deitz was an awesome character, and her screen appearance was more influential than arguably at least 50 characters in other seasons. The main thing we learn about her is that she is clearly the brains of the operation, while Terry is the muscle. That becomes evident throughout the season as Terry constantly throws out his terrible ideas about how Casaya should jump ship to the La Minas, even though if they did they would be immediately on the bottom.
Trish was the clear motivational factor with Terry, and we can see through this that he really does care about his family, I think in the depths of negativity that exists with Gitanos, this was a nice humanizing moment. But, even more importantly, it leads to one of the best arguments in the season with Terry and Aras and is the catalyst in their relationship devolving into baseless insults. Aras wanted to see his mother, and quite frankly, Terry found that silly, I just love how stupid that argument is. I’ll talk about it a little bit more when I get to Aras, but Trish is a very necessary catalyst.
Also… he smelled like a campfire ;)
Part III: The Scrambling Continues
Terry is desperate. His La Minas are gone and he is the last person standing. His position from being the ruler of La Mina was ripped away from him and he begins to struggle with the endgame portion. He knows he has the god idol. He wields power, he threatens it, he frightens the other people. One slip-up at immunity and he is done. He needs to being securing something, anything for his endgame to even get a chance to make it to the final 2. Shane is out because he’s Casaya only. Cirie giggled when he told her his plan. Aras? No way. What does that mean for our underdog hero, then?
*Enter an argumentative and lazy Boston woman and a free-spirited bird*
Terry, Danielle, and Courtney all share an interesting triangle situation. Terry knows that if he drags them to the end, he will 100% win. They’ve been ridiculed all season for their behavior, and it has been established time and time again that they are useless in the eyes of Casaya. But, why?
Part III.I: Courtney
I never got around to Courtney’s write-up, but the brief argument is that I think she is awesome and was sad she missed the endgame. Effortlessly starting a conflict with her lack of self-awareness, flightiness, and her just crazy attitude toward Casaya, Courtney is one of the most important props of the season, and boosts Cirie, Shane, Aras, Danielle, and Bruce with just a few lines. But with Terry, I think he demonstrates an important character trait with Courtney, and one of my biggest arguments for her - she knows damn well what her character and behavior are coming off as, and definitely playing it up for the other players on the island.
Terry approaches Courtney for being his goat because no one likes her. This was after touchy subjects (what’s a poser? You, Courtney), and at this point, Courtney is on the high edge and feels completely disrespected by her tribe. But she also knows her position at this point and knows that she has to play for the goat. Even though she thinks she even has a possibility to beat Terry (which, maybe? But that’s another discussion), she eagerly takes that position with Terry after her disappointment with her fellow Casayas and how she got obliterated at Touchy Subjects.
But, everyone catches onto this and then realizes that Courtney IS a threat because she’s dead weight being dragged to the end. Watching Courtney, the person that everyone all season underestimated for her loony behavior make people worried and lead to one of the best strategic moves in the history of the show is incredible.
With Terry and Courtney, I think their blossoming alliance, and thus prompt defeat is interesting for so many reasons. Contextualizing Terry’s story, I think it’s important to note that he went for the two young women on the tribe last, and it makes sense given his position on La Mina. The way he demotes the young women as non-threatening reaffirms the gender bias in the game and emphasizes the theme I’ve been harping on all season where the gender lines existed even going past the swap of the tribe's afterword. But with Courtney, I think it’s important for her to realize her goat status, have Terry reaffirm that for her, embrace it, and then get voted out for that reason. It’s a great story because we get a lot of build-up for Courtney being the most annoying person alive with her fire dancing and singing when Bruce has rocks in his stomach. Her transition to that arc is incredible.
But with Terry, it’s one of his last nails in the coffin, as the “Casaya Get Terry the FUCK out of the game train” takes another pawn from him. He’s disintegrating, and with each approaching step to the game, he runs out of options. Quickly Terry begins falling apart, and a large reason for that is Courtney. I’ll get to that a little bit more below with Cirie and Aras specifically, but his aggravation is coming in full force, and Courtney is an integral part where Terry becomes the underdog to the asshat ruined by Casaya.
Part III.II: Danielle
At first, Terry and Danielle are almost exclusively defined through the eyes of Dani. And she hates him. Danielle is one of the best early voices for the opposition against Terry because she constantly complains about him and his behavior behind his back. She is tired of him winning all the time, his scheming constantly, and him ignoring her for the most part because he doesn’t find her useful. This culminates in an Exile Island adventure between them where, or moreso lack thereof when he sends her to Exile at the family visit. Danielle gets to spend the entire day stewing on the beach because Terry doing this to her, and it seems that he burnt another bridge.
But Danielle is smart. She knows her place in the game and also knows that she is not perceived well, like Terry. She begins to create a secret alliance with Terry and Courtney where they do the final 3 together because they are the least liked on the island. The next episode, Final Four with the group that ends on a cliffhanger, represents a new change in attitude when Aras wins reward and immunity, and sends Danielle to exile over Cirie. The decision hurts Danielle because it was her second night on the beach, and she thought that they were equals. This causes her to rethink her alliance with Cirie & Aras, and she begins to contemplate what it would mean to jump ship with Terry. He’s likely to win again, and she knows that it might possibly be a tie anyway.
Danielle was always game-forward, and she herself said that she wasn’t there to make friends. It’s why she turned on Courtney so quickly and realigned herself with Terry. She wanted the money, and Terry saw through that and knew that people didn’t like her. It was his last attempt to be in the game and align with someone he would never associate in real life due to her lack of work ethic. I actually love their little odd couple relationship because they represent mirrors for other characters in the game which they didn’t like (Misty/Shane), and I think their ability to work together, so seamlessly, is incredible work and great additions to both of the characters.
But… we know how this ends. Danielle wins the final immunity and she is forced between a rock and a hard place. Aras manipulates the hell out of her, which is great for his character, but Terry takes a more dignified approach. He leans back and lets the wind take them wherever. Terry is not a beggar, under any circumstances, and it shows at the end when he believes that Danielle will stick to her word and vote out Aras. It’s important for Terry’s character because even after the demonization of his character, he is still shown to be someone who sticks to his morals and goes with whatever the game is played. Alas, Aras is chosen to go to the end with Danielle, and at that point, his game is kaput, donezo, and no god idol to save him. His last piece, being an archetype that he underestimated all season, the young female, being his final death knell is delicious irony, and the process of watching Terry go from the primary leader of the tribe surrounded by men to being scorned by something he was scared of most was beautiful, and a satisfying end to his character.
Part IV: Someone Call the Whambulance…
So the issue with Terry, is that his character is being ruined by the people around him, which I think is unarguably the most fascinating part about his character. The Terry we begin to love and know at the beginning of the season, the Air Force veteran with a loving family and great leadership skills, is disintegrating around him as he is pushed aside due to the perceptions, both that he created and that are formed through Casaya. Terry becomes incredibly shady as time goes on, and with a tribe that already views him as the primary enemy of the other tribe, it’s incredible to watch his underdog fall from grace.
Implicitly, I think everyone is so scared of Terry that they begin to take it out negatively on him, dunking on his character constantly. I love Terry’s edit because I think the complexities in the tone of his character craft a stronger character whereas a traditional Golden Boy edit gets completely subverted and blown up by the final 3 episodes. He was a beloved figure in his previous tribe who just became a nuisance and menace, and in Terry’s real life, he’s never had to be in the bottom position. His underdog role is certainly meant for us to root for him, but there’s enough narrative there where it becomes evident that while Terry is objectively in a rootable position, there’s no reason for us to do so.
Terry’s witch hunt becomes one of the most important parts of the season and defines why his character lands so much for me. Two characters excellently show this, Cirie and Aras. Both of them are relentless in their efforts to get Deitz out of the game, never wavering from their alliance with each other, and constantly slamming Terry for idoling his way to the end of the game.

2024.05.26 03:26 therealnaut 34M looking for some advice on how to navigate a relationship with a 27F while in the process of a career change. What should I do going forward?

Sorry in advance for the long read but some backstory is needed to get the full picture!
I am a 34M. In October 2022 I was engaged to a 30F I had been dating for 7 years. Covid took a toll on the business I had been running and therefore I needed to close up shop and became unexpectedly unemployed. I covered the large majority of our household expenses and as a result it was a pretty desperate time for us, I quickly picked up a management position at a local business as a way to pay the bills but I was quite unhappy in that role and it resulted in me being not a good partner to her. Long story short and no surprise, my ex fiancée and I separated soon after this. She quickly moved on (literally within days) so I am sure that was brewing before the split, which did sting after such a long relationship and being left at a low point in my life, but life goes on and quite honestly I was in no position to stop and dwell on it.
I owned a house at that time, however was in the hamster wheel of working to pay bills with not much left over afterward, and as a result I felt stuck in the job I had found myself in with no end in sight. I decided after the breakup it was the best opportunity I had in many years for a reset and proceeded to sell my house and use the money to go back to school to become a paramedic, working in healthcare had always been a dream of mine I just took a different path in my 20's. I built a small tiny-home on my parents property to live in while I was going to school to save money on rent. After living on my own for 15 years this did not make me feel great about myself, but I told myself it was a small price to pay for a career I could be proud of.
Fast forward a few months, I am in school at this point. I started spending quite a bit of time with a 27F friend of mine whom I had known for about a year. In the beginning it was strictly friendship as I was going through so many life changes it was not at all my intention on starting to date until that had settled. She was amazing and made me happier than I could remember being and therefore that quickly went out the window and we began dating. She has her life together, has a house of her own and a great career. Truth be told at the time I did not expect her to have any interest in me in my current position, but she did which made me even more attracted to her that she could see past all that I was dealing with and see me for who I was and not what I could financially offer, which at the time was not much.
I had started school and it was quite demanding of my time. I had my entire future resting on the fact I would succeed in the program and find a good job afterward. Because of my lack of time as well as the stress on my shoulders I was not showing up for her in the way she wanted and needed me to, which I fully admit and I feel terrible about, but I felt I had to prioritize my career because without that we had no future regardless. This put a lot of pressure on our relationship, which was selfish of me to put her through that, I just did not know what to do in that situation. My finances were limited and my time was limited, therefore there were some events she wanted me to attend that I was unable to do so, that made her feel she was not a priority, which I understand but was never my intention to make her feel that way.
Fast forward a year from that point, we have been dating for close to a year and a half, and I am in my final few months of school. Our relationship was mostly good other than what I had already mentioned, however one event happened which resulted in the end of our relationship. I had something incredibly important in school on a Friday, it was not an option to miss that day or to reschedule. 12:00 am Thursday night her grandfather passed away, I got a call from her and she was extremely upset, they were very close. We talked on the phone for a short time but I had to be up at 5am for school so I had to go to sleep. I told her I needed to go to sleep but I would come see her the next day after school and spend the night with her to make sure she was okay. She left after we hung up to drive to be with her family and I did not hear from her for a week. I could tell she was upset with me and I did not want to cause any more trouble than I already had, so I reached out to tell her I was sorry I was able to come over the night she heard about her grandfather, and a few times to ask how she was and tell her I was there for her with whatever she needed. A week passed and still nothing from her, so I told her that I did not want to make anything about me while she was grieving but it was starting to make me feel uneasy that she could leave for a week and make no effort to contact me when I have tried on multiple occasions to make sure she was okay. I asked if she wanted me to come to the funeral with her and she said no.
She returned to town a few days after the funeral, I went to see her and within 15 minutes of being at her house she said I hurt her and she wanted to break up (I saw this coming but it still hurt far more than losing my fiancée of 7 years). I told her that I was sorry I hurt her, I loved her and hoped she would change her mind and I left. I tried reaching out a couple of times in the following days to give a better apology, but she was not receptive to my apology, so I stopped and backed away to give her space. I waited about a month without contacting her after that, it was now coming up on Valentine's Day so I bought her flowers and asked if I could drop them off to her as my way of saying I know we haven't talked in the past month but I still care about you and I wanted to do something nice for you for Valentine's. She said she did not want the flowers. About a week later she asked if I was home to bring me my things that were at her house, I got together all of her things as well and we met. It was a good exchange there was no negativity but it was not a social meet either. After that we have not talked in what is now about 4 months. I still love her and think about her all the time, but I have held back from contacting her because I know that is what she wants.
I am finally now finished school. I have 3 months of hands on training and I will graduate the end of August and will FINALLY get back to work and get back to living a normal life.
My question to you folks is a few part question.
1. If I still have strong feelings for her, when I get back on track with my career and finances and can be there for her in the way she needs me to be, should I reach back out to her? Or let the past be the past.
2. If I do not reconnect with her, how will it be perceived to be a 34 year old male who has a small home on his parents property? Should I wait a couple of years to sort my finances and change that before even attempting to put myself back out there?
Any other opinions/feedback would be appreciated. I want complete honesty, but this has been a major event in my life so please refrain from negativity that does not include constructive criticism.
Thanks for reading <3
TL;DR: I am a 34M looking for some advice to navigate a relationship while I am in the process of a life overhaul.

2024.05.26 02:51 chupacabracutie Is this appropriate writing ability for the end of 1st grade?

I am looking for resources to help teach my child to write. I am concerned about my son's writing skills. He just finished first grade. His handwriting is very good, it's his spelling and composition I am concerned about. He had an emergency certified teacher with little training. He did not get very good instruction. I taught him to read mid school year using a book called "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" because he was making no progress with his teacher. It was recommended in several homeschool groups and worked well. He ended the year at DRA 18 which is slightly above grade level. He can read Captain Underpants and Dog Man books independently now. He did not get much writing instruction. I bought us both journals so that we could write every day together to flex the muscle. He is excited about it so that's a positive. Today I gave him a prompt of "Write a story about an adventure". I provided no help. The spelling and punctuation are exactly as he wrote it. This is what he came up with (he also drew a picture):
"Oun day I go on a hicke. it is a tuff cllim. Wan we gatt to the top we sat up camp. dad finds wud we mack a fier. "
Is there anyone with early elementary experience who can tell me where he is compared to where he should be for a public school student that just finished 1st grade? What resources are out there to help me learn how to teach him to write?

frustrated when others walking in front of him
picture for attention
My pup is 3 months old and he does so well with training in general. He can sit by a busy road and focus on us most of the time. However, the exception is when he sees another dog (including our older dog) or even my partner walking in front of him he will be super crazy pulling and jumping and barking loudly. Normally I will just stop and wait until he’s settled but sometimes (like 50%) he won’t. I tried turning around and walking away as well. He gets so frustrated because he sees the dog/my partner walking away but he can’t chase after them with me holding the leash. I’m quite fed up with his tantrums although we’re still patiently trying to train him to stay calm in this situation. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
