2024.05.06 00:44 CornerEngineer Persona-esque Tarot arcana for FF14 characters [Spoiler: 2.0 onwards]

I originally started thinking about these a few months back when Persona 3 Reload came out, but didn't think to post until now. Now there are a lot of characters who'd fit into multiple arcanas and a lot who I didn't include, these are simply the first ones that came to mind when looking at each arcana and what they can be interpreted as:
0 Fool - The Warrior of Light This was the easiest one as The Fool is often interpreted as the protagonist and that's what we are.
1 Magician - Alphinaud This one was also quite simple as The Magician symbolizes the meeting of the physical and spiritual and converting spiritual energy into real-world action, which fits very well with Alphy being a healer.
2 High Priestess - Venat I went with Venat for High Priestess since it's associated with secrets, mystery and the future yet unrevealed, which fits with her being the only one from Elpis to remember what was revealed during our time there.
3 Empress - Y'shtola This one was tricky since The Empress can represent the creation of life, romance, art or business and while withing the fandom Y'Shtola can and has certainly represented almost all of those she hasn't done so in the game. She does however act as a sort of a mother-figure within the Scions and since Empress is also associated with things like action, iniative and truth as well as being connected to Death through life, death and rebirth I felt like she was a fitting choice.
4 Empreror - Fourchenault This one was also one of the easier ones since Emperor can be associated with things like authority, establishment, excessive control and being a father figure, and all of those can be found in Fourchenault.
5 Hierophant - Haurcefant Since Hierophant is associated with things like righteousness, alliance, mercy, goodness and kindness I felt like Haurcefant was an obvious choice for this one.
6 Lovers - Moenbryda This was another very tricky one, especially since within the Persona games Lovers is usually the Arcana of the default love interest and in 14 we don't really have one outside of personal headcanons. In the end I went with Moenbryda due to her relationship with Urianger as well as the card representing relationships and choices in some traditions, as well as representing an aspect of life having to be sacrificed.
7 Chariot - Alisaie Since Chariot is associated with things like war, triumph, vengeance and trouble as well as being depicted with either a sword or a wand I felt like Red Alphinaud was a good fit for this one.
8 Strength - Estinien Strength is associated with things like power, energy, action and courage as well as wakness and disgrace, and considering what happens to him during Heavensward I felt it fitting to give this one to the Scions resident squid-loving dragoon.
9 Hermit - Thancred Another simple one since Hermit can be associated with things like roguery, concealment, disguise, prudence and corruption and Thancred can be associated with all of those as well, though the last one only due to Lahabrea taking his body for a spin and leaving him with a case of ''corruption'' in the form of inability to use aether.
10 Wheel of Fortune - Tataru This one had to be Tataru since she is the coinkeeper of the Scions and a business owner and Wheel of Fortune being associated with things like fortune, success, luck and abundance.
11 Justice - Gaius I felt Gaius fits the Justice Arcana since initially he believes, as he himself says in his monologue in the Praetorium, that it's his right to take our realm and initially he clearly believes that the Empire is on the right side of law, but later defecting due to the Ascians meddling in affairs and the Empire doing some very nasty things like restarting production of the Black Rose. Since Justice is associated with concepts like rightness, equity and triumph of the deserving side of the law I picked him for this Arcana considering the growth and change he has as a character.
12 Hanged Man - Emet-Selch As Hanged Man is often depicted with a solemn expression suggesting the hanging is self-imposed, as well as a halo around the head signifying higher learning or enlightenment along with being associated with concepts like wisdom, trials and sacrifice I felt it fitting that Emet holds this Arcana.
13 Death - Minfilia While Minfilia doesn't do much aside from ordering us around and getting kidnapped early on, her ''death'' at the end of ARR is a major event and even more so later on with Shadowbringers. The arcana is also associated with end, mortality and loss of benefactor among others, as well as in reverse representing stagnation and the inability to move or change, which could be viewed as what happened to the life of every Oracle of Light in the First until Ryne. Because of all of these factors I thought Minfilia was a fitting choice.
14 Temperance - Urianger This was a hard one since I couldn't really think of anyone who really fit Temperance aside from Tataru, since the Arcana is associated with things like economy, moderation, frugality and management, but I didn't want to give the same character 2 Arcanas and I felt that Wheel of Fortune fit her better. In the end I went with Urianger since he can fit some of the reversed meanings, mainly disunion (working on things behind the backs of his fellow scions), unfortunate combinations (him dealing with both Elidibus and the Warriors of Darkness) and competing interests (him wanting to save the star and his allies-at-the-time wanting to destroy it) as well as the Arcana being associated with sects and him being an Astrologian later on with Diurnal and Nocturnal Sect, though I will admit this last one is a bit of a reach,
15 Devil - Zenos Another easy one as Devil is associated with ravage, violence, vehemence, extraordinary efforts, force and fatality and Zenos is, well, Zenos.
16 Tower - Lyse I went with Lyse for the Tower since it's widely associated with the likes of crisis, destruction, liberation, distress, adversity and deception, and Lyse is from Ala Mhigo and experiences or does all of these during the game.
17 Star - G'raha Tia As the Star represents hope and bright prospects I felt like the Scions resident ex-Exarch was a solid choice to hold this Arcana. After all, he is nothing if not bright and hopeful.
18 Moon - Hermes I went with Hermes for the Moon as he becomes an antagonist despite initially being friendly, though granted its more out of concern for his creations safety and the knowledge they hold then any actual malice or hostility, and with Moon being associated with concepts like hidden enemies, danger, darkness, deception, error and instability.
19 Sun - Papalymo This was one of the hard ones since Sun is considered one of, if not the best, card in the tarot deck so I didn't want to go with an antagonist and is associated with attained knowledge, happiness, contentment, self-confidence and success. I eventually settled on Papalymo because I wanted to try to find a fitting Arcana for as many Scions as I could and I hadn't put him down for anything yet, and while he doesn't get a happy ending he did certainly attain knowledge and, to a degree, success and he was certainly confident and content.
20 Judgement - Krile Like with Papalymo, I hadn't come up with a good match for Krile that didn't also fit another Scion better. However once I got to Judgement and looked up what it's associated with, in this case things like rebirth, second chance and change of position, I felt like it fit her quite well. And when it was announced that she'd be a major character in Dawntrail it made her fit the Arcana even more. I will note however that I haven't finished all of Eureka so I don't know how she is in there and if that'd change her Arcana.
21 World - Hydaelyn This is techically cheating since Venat is already listed, but I consider the two of them different enough with Venat being a mortal and Hydaelyn a Primal. I had initially put this one down as the Lifestream but felt that Hydaelyn was a better choice since she's an actual character and not just a concept. She also fits some of the associations of the Arcana, namely the ending to a cycle of life, voyage and assured success.
Hoo boy, long post is long. Anyways, that's it for that list. Do let me know what you all think :)

2024.05.05 21:39 vinnyscock neurodivergent clash.

to clarify in case anyone calls my post incoherent: my partner BB uses she/he interchangeably. dont be weird. we are both autistic, mid twenties.
heard a song i really liked from an old soviet cartoon [million red roses.] sent it to BB.
maybe i thought hed like it, maybe moreso i just wanted to hear his thoughts about it. maybe i wanted to share the mood it gave me.
she said it was slow. not in the mood for it.
my mood immediately tanked. just sort of drooped. frustration. this has happened so many times.
he doesnt like anything ive sent him lately. i dont like anything hes sent me very much either. not because of the content itself. im just annoyed. our differences are getting more obvious lately and it feels so alienating.
i get annoyed talking to her. those good feelings i used to feel are so far and in between now. im full of resentment. we just arent linking the same.
im bitter. every time i talk to him i have to hold back the bitterness, pettiness, skepticism and snark i feel for every other sentence he says. i get so fucking frustrated when we dont click the same way nowadays.
he doesnt really ‘reply’ to anything i say. he says he doesnt really know what to say. doesnt have much opinion on anything im into or care about. one word answers. single lukewarm sentences.
i guess i try to fill this gap in discussion by oversharing about whatever im talking about. i want to talk about me, sometimes, and when i dont get to do that i get more self absorbed because im so desperate for attention.
and the thing is, shes not stupid. shes a really smart and creative person. she watches all kinds of video essays and thinks and daydreams so much about the things shes interested in. but when we talk about things outside of that, she gets bored. i can hear it.
i know she would listen to me if i rambled or infodumped. but i dont do that. i cant. and im not saying she has to be interested in everything i want to talk about, but shes not an active listener. i guess that irks me. i cant keep a conversation going by myself unless im pissed about something.
i try to be an active listener, even if i dont know what someone else is talking about. i try to do this without being a doormat, because i understand sometimes the people i love need an attentive ear. i guess i could sit there and not reply, but i feel bad doing that.
nobody does the same for me. BB doesnt ask me anything, or try to understand, or show very much interest at all beyond ‘oh, ok. if you say so.’
im so bitter. am i really such an empty, dependent person. that i need a discussion to talk about the things im thinking about. that i need other peoples input, or at least thoughts from people im close to.
we hang out, but we havent done anything together in ages. the same activity, i mean. we just sort of chatter meaninglessly. it bothers me. i just sort of…stopped doing whatever BB wanted to do. because whenever we do a videogame or something she gets bored. or…she doesnt want to do what i want to do. i used to suggest different things, but. i kinda stopped doing that because he doesnt want to do any if it, usually. i really cant stand it when i offer someone multiple choices and they just go ehh...i dunno. then we just sit there.
i guess she wants to draw with me almost always, but i dont want to. i havent really been in an art mood lately, and i dont like social art as much as he does.
and i know it sounds shitty, but i get tired of accomodating him. what i mean is…a lot of times if shes not bored by an activity, it hurts his eyes/brain. this is legitimate, hes not faking it, im not worried about that. but theres just SO MANY things we’ll never be able to do together. i get it, i have my own sensitivities, but its frustrating. we cant ever go on rollercoasters or to a rave/concert or anywhere with a crowd or play this or that videogame. we both get sensory overload easily, we both have heart problems and asthma, but his are admittedly ten times worse.
i feel like a heel. i could just do these things by myself, without asking BB to join me. but i dont want to. i dont want to be alone. i did everything alone as a child and a teen, and now i have a partner so i dont have to do anything by myself… except she cant do much with me. its the same. sometimes i feel like she doesnt want to see/learn new things about the world like i do, when she CAN do things. which is bizarre for me, as a shy homebody person. i cant figure out where he focuses his energy. or even what he wants for the future. if he wants a future. im afraid to ask.
and then just recently she told me that she only plays one of my favorite games with me because i play it. she hates playing it, because the pixel style hurts her eyes/brain to look at.
my first reaction was surprise, because i thought BB didnt like playing it because its boring. then i felt awful, because i used to ask her so often to play with me. why would she hurt herself like that? was my thought. it was unnecessary. then, frustration, because why buy a game for yourself that hurts your photosensitivity? and now i can never again in good conscience ask her to play it with me. which isnt a big deal in the long run, theres a bunch of other games we can play and i prefer playing it on my own by now, but. its another thing we cant do together.
i love her. i think i need other friends. shes the only one ive had for ten years, and possibly the closest one ive ever had. and the first semi serious relationship ive had, as my qp partner, but im clearly not as good of a partner as i thought i was. i think i need more friends. i dont want to be upset at her for my problems. its not her fault im lonely and forgot how to talk to people, is it, is what i keep telling myself.
ive petered out. not just with BB, but everybody. i dont have the energy. thats depression and lack of self esteem, but. also because i dont have much of a social battery now. i listen. i reply. i dont know what to say. people talk. they talk and they talk and they talk AT me. my mother talks at me. people can talk for hours and not really communicate with each other.
i used to be fine with it. now i just so little to give. i dont know how to talk like that. whenever i try to ramble or talk excitedly about something, i get weird looks or oh okay whatever? or whatever you say or uhuh or hmm or youre an odd one. im struggling. but i know how to…say the thing that gets someone elses eyes to light up. i know how to ask in the way that get people to talk about themselves. its really the only way i know how to socialize.
people love to talk about themselves. i like it, usually. it gives me insight into the person, their thoughts and feelings. im fascinated by how everyone has their own vast inner world. a puzzle to figure out. i like getting to know someone and hearing their quirks and hobbies. im not popular, or a particularly outwardly friendly or social person, but i think this is the one social thing im okay at.
im genuinely interested in other people as… people. why isnt anybody ever interested in me. ive somehow both been called dull and also a ‘mystery’ by everyone else. odd, but boring. even BB, my best friend, my partner, calls me mysterious. its not a compliment to me.
im struggling not to hoard myself so much. trying to stop self isolating. but its so easy. its so fucking easy to just wander off and disappear for days on end. not because nobody cares about me, but because they make wanting to withdraw so strong. i just need to be by myself for a few days. weeks. months. its weird how being lonely only makes me want to be more alone.
i need a drink. i need to be in nature, alone, with no people, no buildings, no electronics that hum and beep and hurt my ears.

2024.05.05 21:33 Marxist-Grayskullist Museum of Aldmeri Sapience

The Illuminated Museum of Aldmeri Sapience in Lillandril is once again open to the general public, so that, in the words of the Museum curators, “we may show others the brightest aspects of Ehlnofey culture in the hopes that they, too, may strive for a higher excellence in all aspects of Mundane life.” The Museum is dedicated to all the various “Children of Aldmeris,” i.e. the various Elven cultures of Tamriel.
The Altmeri exhibition is, naturally, the grandest. Silvery ancient statues of adamantium depicting Torinaan the Foresailer, Phynaster the Guardian, and other Merethic-era cultural heroes line the walls. Bones of the extinct welwas and ilyadi are displayed as examples of the beasts conquered to make Altmeri society possible. Most popular is the Hall of Rulers displaying a long row of every monarch who ruled Alinor from Auri-El to the Thalmor, crafted with excruciating accuracy in glowing malondo stone. Observing the large crowds that throng to this particular attraction, one is struck by the revelation that Alinor's people still long for the firm but loving rule of ancient noble families despite their modern pretensions of “equality.”
The final room of the Altmeri section of the Museum is a showing of modern art from across Alinor - hand-selected by the Sapiarchy, of course. A large mural by an artist from Belport depicts Syrabane driving away the Thrassian Fleet with a flick of the hand, while a culanda-sculpture from Alinor City depicts Anuiel smiling down on the College of Sapiarchs. The sole contribution from Rellenthil is the most controversial, only admitted after lengthy debate. It is a painting that depicts the final members of the old Thalmor regime cannibalizing each other in Alinor Palace. Not very suitable for the family-minded traveler.
The Bosmer exhibition is more of a public menagerie containing flora and fauna imported from Malabal Tor. The artist responsible is quite proud of her seemingly miraculous feat in eco-engineering, even if Green wardens must be on constant standby to prevent the predatory animals from endangering visitors.
The neighboring Ayleid exhibition is also grand in its own way, as the tall arches, pure white walls, and graceful columns immediately transport visitors to one of the ancient cities of the Saliache. Lit only by welkynd stones, scenes unfold in sculpture and bas-relief of the Ayleid Empire’s rise in the Heartland, corruption by the Daedra, and ultimate collapse by their own hubris in relying on slave labor. The revivalists of modern times are also given a nod of recognition at the end, a diorama of Miscarcand being rebuilt by Bosmeri and Khajiiti laborers is the final focal piece.
The Dunmer section opens in an elaborate chamber of wall-sculptures depicting the early Chimer casting off their calians and kneeling before the Three Good Daedra. The center of the chamber is a green-glass statuary scene of Veloth meditating below the Crystal Tower, Boethiah whispering into his ear. In the next rooms house artworks from the Potentate and Resdayn: Ashlander bone jewelry, carapace carvings in the Native Chuzei style, and a topiary of the Empress Katariah adorned with black roses.
The cold chamber that is the Falmer exhibition contains ice sculptures of the Aedra weeping (with self-regenerating enchanted tears) as they watch arcano-projections of the great Snow Elves battling hairy barbarians wearing Dragon-totem necklaces. The faithful reenactment of the fall of the Snow Prince is quite a hit with military enthusiasts.
A small Dwemer exhibition is the humblest room of the Museum, Alinor not having much access to the artifacts of that vanished race. The usual coherers and puzzle cubes are on display, but the star of the show is a small duplicate of Numidium. Beloved by children, this tiny automaton was to blame for the Museum being closed for a time. Little Numidium (as the locals call it), used to walk about on a map of Tamriel on the floor. This feature had chronopathic side effects on those who gazed at it for too long, thus it was disabled. While the Museum of Aldmeri Sapience does not feature a gift shop, parents may be delighted to know that one of our sponsors, the Saint Kagrenac Corporation, sells working (and completely safe!\) Little Numidiums at reasonable prices by mail or at one of their shops near you.* If Dwemer imitations you lack, go see Saint Kagrenac!
The other small exhibits are a room of coral serpent totems from the Maormer, a room of ancient Trinimac votives from Wrothgaria, and (somewhat controversially, given their debated heritage,) banners of the Goblin Welkynars from King’s Haven.
One more exhibition, simply titled “The Future,” features arcane projections of the Sunbirds of Alinor flying across the Aurbis to explore and study the Eight Planets. Project God-Reaching, as it has been called, is the passionate undertaking of a handful of Sapiarchs hoping to prove at last the “true” nature of the Divines. The program is still in the early stages, but interest has grown significantly in recent years.
\The Saint Kagrenac Corporation is not legally liable for any lost memories, lost sense of time, visions of the future, visions of the past, visions of alternate timelines, or existential crises that may result from exposure to Dwemer reproductions.)

2024.05.05 21:11 Strict_External678 Chapter 1 of Tulak Hord

Within the dark corners of the galaxy, the Sith Empire prospered as a dark mirror to the bright Republic. Within the ancient world of Korriban, the birthplace of the Sith, a child was born into the universe. The child of a great Sith Lord and a human slave, Tulak Hord was born with great destiny on his small shoulders. Even as a child, Tulak's gaze seemed to hold knowledge that was forbidden, a hint at the tremendous powers that slumbered within. Whispers grew by the time he grew up, in the hallways of his father's sprawling estate and down the dusty streets of the Sith Capitol. "A prodigy," murmured those who watched in a mix of awed admiration and fear. The first stirrings of the Force came to Tulak in quiet moments. A toy leapt to his outstretched hand; an inkwell shattered when he cried out in frustration. Each incident was a small revelation, a small betrayal of his burgeoning abilities. Tulak hoarded these secrets close to his heart, instinctively understanding their significance. To his father he was a distant figure, a dark silhouette always striding away to war or plots, but others of the Sith Lords took keen notice of the boy. Measuring his progress, they measured his potential as a coming storm. It was Zythus a pureblooded, a powerful and cunning master, who claimed the right to Tulak's training. On the twelfth nameday of the boy, the Sith Lord Zythus appeared at the family estate like a specter, cloaked in black robes that whispered against the polished floors. When Tulak met the Sith Lord's appraising gaze, he did not flinch, though his heart was hammered under his ribs. "You have a gift beyond belief," Zythus told him, walking easily around the boy as a predator might. "Raw. Untempered. But I will forge you into a blade the likes of which the galaxy has never seen." A slow smile spread across Tulak's face. "I am ready, Master." And in that, true learning under Tulak Hord began—a crucible of body, mind, and spirit. Zythus worked his apprentice to the ends of his endurance and beyond, honing the boy's Force abilities and martial prowess with grueling exercises and esoteric rites. Master and apprentice sought dark knowledge inside the haunted tombs of Sith Lords long dead. Tulak plunged himself into forbidden texts, hungry for secrets that would unlock potential. The Force whispered seductive promises of glory and domination. Much of Tulak's life, especially his youth, had been consumed by the training of lightsaber combat. Humming and clashing of the energy blades had become the rhythm by which he lived. It was in Juyo, also called Form VII by most, that he found a place for his most aggressive impulses. As he got stronger, the acrobatic movements and bold strikes suited his growing strength and thirst for victory. But it had been Form Two, Makashi, that truly captured Tulak's ardor. The precision, the economy of motion—it appealed to his burgeoning ego, his need to assert perfect control. For what use was power if not mastered? He would be a duelist without peer. Under Zythus' harsh discipline, Tulak came to master the art of swordplay in leaps and bounds. Steel and plasma became extensions of his body, tools to his will. In the halls of training and the dueling circles, the young apprentice bested warriors twice his age and experience. Each triumph only fueled the hunger inside him for more. It was on the eve of Tulak's eighteenth year, with almost a decade under Zythus' care, that the Lord of the Sith finally began to talk about the trials ahead. "You have learned much, my young apprentice," he said one night as they meditated beneath the stars. "But to truly ascend, you must face the crucible of conquest. The Sith Empire is vast, but not all bend the knee to our rule. It falls to us to bring these wayward worlds to heel." Tulak's eyes blazed in the dark. "I am ready, my Lord. The galaxy will shake at our coming." With his apprentice at his side, Zythus made the boy a full partner in his machinations. They schemed and strategized, plotted strikes against rebellious planets that dared defy Sith dominion. Tulak reveled in the work, his mind alight with visions of the destruction they would unleash. And so it came to pass that when the first attacks finally came, Tulak was a veritable whirlwind of death across the battlefield, his crimson blade arcing through Sith troopers and war droids alike, allies rallying in his wake. The goading furthered him to savagery, screams and blaster fire forming a twisted symphony. In the ruins that surrounded him now, of a city once defiant, Tulak bathed in the heat of his Master's approval. Zythus clapped a hand on his apprentice's shoulder, a rare gesture of affection. "You have done well, Tulak," he said. "With you by my side, the Sith will bring all under our sway. One day, the galaxy entire will kneel before us." All he felt was pride and ambition swelling in his chest, into a heady brew. This was his destiny—to stand at the very pinnacle of power. And one day, perhaps, to rule alone. The thought nestled deep within the shadowed corners of his mind, a treacherous seed waiting to sprout at the proper moment. As the years of conquest ground on, Tulak's prowess and reputation grew. The two of them were enacting conquest of the fringe of the Empire, ever pushing toward the uncaptured stars. Each victory, each demonstration of martial skill, earned Tulak more and more notice from the highest echelons of Sith leadership. In particular, the reigning Dark Lord of the Sith took note of the young warrior's meteoric rise. In time, those whispers reached the Sith Lord—a prodigy, a rising star hungry for the heavens. Perhaps, the Dark Lord mused, an asset to be cultivated. Or a rival to be eliminated. These were faraway schemes for the mind of Tulak when his life took a hellish twist. On the war-torn world of Belkadan, a jungle planet churning with the Dark Side, a challenge was to be faced by the young Sith, unlike any other he had known. Zythus had sent Tulak in search of a powerful Sith artifact hidden deep within a crumbling temple. It was a race through vine-choked halls, following the pull of the Force toward his prize. But he was not alone in the hunt. From the shadows stepped a hulking figure, placing itself in Tulak's way. A Dashade: a scaly, reptilian giant covered in spikes and teeth, plentiful and sharp. The creature held a massive vibroblade in its clawed hands, a wickedly serrated weapon that hummed with energy. "You trespass, small Sith," the Dashade growled in a guttural rumble. "The temple's secrets are not for you." Tulak rose his lightsaber, its ruby blade humming to life. "Stand aside, creature. This place belongs to the Sith Empire; I claim it for myself." The Dashade chuckled, a dry, rasping sound. "Bold words for such a small creature. I am Khem Val, the temple's guardian. Prove your worth, and perhaps I will let you pass." With a roar, the creature lunged, vibroblade arcing toward Tulak's head. The young Sith leapt aside, barely out of the way of the humming edge. His lightsaber swept up to counter, but Khem Val was shockingly fast for his size. The Dashade parried the blow, lashing out with a clawed foot that caught Tulak in the ribs. Pain exploded through Tulak's side, but he used it to fuel his rage. The Force responded to his call, a surging tide of dark energy that lent strength to his limbs. Blade and saber met again and again, crimson plasma scoring deep rents in the Dashade's stony hide. They sparred across the ancient flagstones, back and forth in a dizzying dance of death. Tulak was lost in the flow of combat, his focus narrowed to the next strike, the next parry. His world shrank to blood and pain and the will to dominate. But in the end, it was Tulak's command of the Force that proved to be the superior. He muttered an incantation and blasted his foe with purple lightning from his outstretched fingertips. The forking energy enveloped Khem Val, throwing the Dashade to his knees with a howl of agony. Panting, Tulak stood over his fallen foe, the point of his saber hovering a hairsbreadth from Khem Val's throat. He listened to part of himself, one that gloried in wanton slaughter, that wanted to finish it here, in this place. To bathe in the guardian's blood. But as he stared into Khem Val's hate-filled eyes, Tulak saw a flicker of something else - respect, perhaps even admiration. "Finish it," hissed the Dashade, his teeth clenched. "Take your prize and be done." Tulak hesitated, an idea blooming in the shadowed corners of his mind. This creature was strong; a worthy foe. Perhaps such strength could be turned to the Sith cause. "No," he said, switching off his lightsaber with a hiss. "I have a better use for you, Khem Val." The eyes of the Dashade narrowed, suspicion warring with surprise. "Explain, little Sith." "You are without equal on the battlefield," Tulak rasped, his voice holding only the barest trace of admiration. "Swear yourself to me, and I will grant you a place in my coming empire. A chance to shed blood and earn glory in the name of the Sith." For a long moment Khem Val considered, tense. Then, slowly, the massive alien bent his head. "You bested me, in combat and in cunning. I name you master, Lord." "Tulak," the boy Sith said. "Tulak Hord" And so within the ancient ruins of the temple, in the folds of a crumbling wall, this unholy alliance was struck. Khem Val had been the shadow of Tulak, always at his back with a looming presence. And so they did the dirty works of this dark place and claimed the artifact as their own. Only later did the elder Sith return to Zythus, bearing not only the prize but a hulking alien bodyguard. He saw in Khem Val a powerful tool, a weapon to be wielded in the battles to come. Under the watchful eye of Zythus, the bond between Tulak and his Dashade servant grew, forged in blood and the fires of war. And so the years of conquest ground on, and Tulak's star continued to rise. With the monstrous Khem Val at his side, the young Sith unleashed devastation on rebellious worlds, each victory more audacious than the last. Zythus watched his apprentice's growing might with a mixture of pride and unease. Because when the heat of battle and the dark side's siren call ensnared him, hints of Tulak's lust for power started to show. His eyes flickering to Zythus' back when the elder Sith's guard was down. Barely veiled contempt in the tone of his master's voice when a command was given. Signs of danger. Zythus knew these. Ambition was the Sith way, yes, but not even the most powerful Dark Lord could afford a viper in his midst. And yet, to confront Tulak directly risked driving the prodigy into the arms of a rival master. Or worse, sparking a conflict that could tear their power base asunder. Zythus waited and watched as the legend of Tulak grew; the elder Sith just watched and waited, for the perfect opportunity to either leash his apprentice's ambitions or destroy the young upstart. Even as Tulak approached his vision of the future with an intense, overwhelming sense of destiny, he knew that with every victory, with each demonstration of his martial prowess, the eyes of the Dark Council were upon him. These twelve Sith Lords were the true rulers of the Empire, and held the keys to ultimate power. Tulak knew you didn't apply to get into the ranks. You clawed your way to the top, stepping over the bodies of the weak and dead, and Tulak was not going to hang around and wait for an invite. His chance arrived in the smoke-choked battlefield of a rebellious world in the Outer Rim. A planetary resistance, buoyed by the support of a rival Sith Lord, had entrenched itself in a fortified bunker. Zythus had been waging a fruitless siege for weeks, his frustration mounting with each passing day. And when Tulak arrived with his reinforcements, he saw his chance. The youthful Sith took the forward position himself, not wanting to join the lines of the siege, and plunged in for a daring infiltration mission with Khem Val and a handpicked team of assassins. Tulak slipped past the rebel defenses and unleashed havoc on the command center. In the chaos of smoke and screams, Tulak found himself blade-to-blade with the rival Sith Lord. The towering Pureblood was a master of the blade, his double-bladed saber weaving a deadly web, but he was no match for Tulak's raw power and savagery. Their duel was short and violent. Tulak hammered his ceaseless rage against the rival Lord's defense, forcing the Pureblood back step by step. As the Sith put his foot down he slipped on a patch of blood, Tulak lunged inside his guard, ramming his saber hilt into the Pureblood's face. Cartilage crunched and the rival Lord reeled, his blade dipping. That had been the opening Tulak sought. His scarlet blade tore through the Pureblood's chest—a killing blow that could not be stopped by mere flesh and robes. As the light in his enemy's eyes began to dim, Tulak felt a surge of triumph such as he had never experienced. As the bunker fell, Zythus walked up to see his apprentice standing in the center of a ring of Sith troopers, the head of the rival Lord held before him. Tulak tossed the grisly trophy at his master's feet, a slow smile spreading across his face. "I have brought you victory," he said, his voice ringing with pride. "The rebellion is crushed, and our enemy's champion slain." Zythus said nothing for a long moment, looking straight into Tulak's eyes. The younger Sith wasn't backing down, though, sending a challenge in his bloodshot eyes. Zythus finally spoke, but in clipped, cold tones: "Well done, my apprentice. You have struck a blow for the Empire this day." But beneath the grudging praise, Tulak could sense his master's trepidation, the growing fear of an apprentice's power. It was a fear he would nurse, a weapon as sure as his lightsaber. For one day soon, Tulak vowed, he would seize his destiny. And Zythus would kneel before a new master.

Entirety of Ryan's Poem for Kelly...
Hi everyone! I don't know how many poetry lovers we have here, but I was always so curious about the rest of Ryan's poem to Kelly (it made Jim and Pam cry!) and was always disappointed it had never been revealed. But I guess that is just what made the scene with Jim and Pam crying so much more funnier and impactful.
Anyways, I kept thinking about it and decided to try my hand in writing what could potentially be an entire poem, using the canon lines in the show for reference. I also tried to follow his themes and rhyming scheme, as well as relate it as much as I could to their relationship. I posted a screenshot because reddit keeps reformatting my line scheme and stanza breaks. Since the entire poem will probably never be fully written in canon, I hope you guys will take this for now! (And please be nice, I'm no pro, this was just for fun!)

2024.05.05 19:01 Constant_Cloud_7333 3-Day Itinerary Post Trip Detailed Notes

Hello! My spouse and I just visited New Orleans in late April for our anniversary and had an absolute BLAST, thanks in large part to the wonderful advice on this subreddit. I wanted to share our itinerary in case it is helpful to folks, as well as some detailed notes about a few things in case it helps others like me who may be neurodivergent and who experience travel anxiety but still want to travel to this delightful city.
Some notes: we don't really drink but still ended up drinking more during our three night/three day stay than we have in the last year. We are also very into walking, and my spouse loves history. We are morning people and learned that New Orleans (at least while we were there) was very quiet in the morning, which was a great opportunity for me to see things without getting too overwhelmed. The weather was as perfect as we could ask for, with rain only on the last day. It was generally warm with cool breezes and absolutely gorgeous at night (70-75 degrees). 10/10 recommend visiting at this time of year if you are trying to avoid the heat of summer or the crowds of Mardi Gras. We ended up skipping Jazz Fest because I thought I might get overwhelmed, and I think that was a good choice for us. Going to NOLA during Jazz Fest may have made the rest of the city a little quieter since folks were at the Fest.
Day 1:
We arrived at the hotel at night (stayed in a hotel near the Convention Center) and walked to Oceana Grill/Bourbon Street for Hurricanes and a snack. We got in very late, so we weren't trying to be picky about where we ate. Note: I fully expected to be overwhelmed by Bourbon Street but actually ended up thinking it was such a fun spectacle. Think Old Vegas neon signs with New Vegas shenanigans. The smell of cigarettes/garbage/urine was very strong, and it was, of course, very loud and busy. You might be able to help yourself with some loop earplugs and/or a mask.
Day 2:
Walk to Cafe Du Monde for beignets and cafe au lait. Note: this is the only thing they serve, they are open 24 hours, they are cash only, and the line for a table moves very quickly. The tables are outside on a covered patio.
Walk around Jackson Square and look at all of the art. The various artists did not seem fully set up until 10-ish.
Walk through the French Market. Note: there are some art shops and souvenir shops. If you walk just past the Market you can see the Mississippi River and sit with a nice breeze if you need a minute to collect yourself.
Walk to Solomon Northup "12 Years A Slave" Historical Site Marker.
Walk to LaLaurie Mansion.
Visit a few different Voodoo shops. Note: if you are interested in psychic/Tarot readings, please know that many of the shops require appointments and may not have immediate availability. There were folks around Jackson Square set up who seemed able to do readings immediately.
Lunch at Napolean House for muffuletta, boudin, and Pims cups. Note: we got there around 11:30, and that seemed like perfect timing with no wait. By the time we left, there was a very long line of folks. At least when we were visiting, there was no air conditioning, and the windows were open.
Visited a few more Voodoo shops and walked down Bourbon Street.
Stopped at Erin Rose for frozen Irish coffees. Note: there are two sizes you can order with the larger size coming in a takeaway Erin Rose cup.
Hotel Refresh
Walk to Sazerac House for a free tour. Note: the tour does require reservation in advance. I was skeptical about the tour, but it ended up being interesting and well done. They gave us four different tastings and had a lot of history. It was crowded but organized.
Dinner at Luke's for oysters during their happy hour.
Casual strolling
Day 3:
Walk to Brennan's for Brunch. Note: This was an absolute highlight of the trip, and the service, food, and decor were amazing from start to finish. When I made our reservation, I included that it was our anniversary since they asked what the occasion was, not thinking that anything would happen. They had a special colored ribbon on our table so that all staff who interacted with our table knew it was our anniversary, and they certainly showered us with congratulations and attention! We were also served sparkling wine on the house. We had a stunning time, and their service was unmatched. The Turtle soup was not memorable, but their seasonal strawberry dish was divine. We watched two other tables order the Banana's Foster but were sufficiently stuffed and felt like we got the experience we wanted even without tasting.
Visit antique stores on Royal Street. Note: they shut the street down some days for pedestrians.
Uber to Botanical Gardens/Sculpture Garden. Note: there is a fee for the Botanical Garden but the Sculpture Garden is free. It was nice to have a quiet walk amongst the flowering plants and sculptures. We did not visit the Museum, though it is also in the same area. There is a small children's garden/installation right next to the Botanical Garden as well.
Uber to Museum of Death. Note: this is owned by the same organization that runs the Museum of Death in LA. I didn't think it was worth it, and it was a little expensive, but my spouse enjoyed it.
Hotel Refresh - we skipped lunch!
Walk to Preservation Hall for a show. Note: this activity came highly recommended but ultimately, it was not for me for a variety of reasons that are no one's fault but my own. You are theoretically seated according to your place in line (do get there early). Our experience was not quite as neat, and folks were not seated according to any logic that I could understand. There were open seats left near the front and sides, with seated folks packed closer to the back of the very small room. My sense of justice was sparked, and I was completely distracted by this (yes, I realize how ridiculous this is and wish I could be different). The room itself does not have air conditioning, and you are seated on a wooden bench with no back. Folks behind me had their knees touching my back, and the person next to me was close enough that their tapping foot tapped onto my foot frequently. The stage is not elevated, so if you are short, there is a possibility that you will not be able to see well even though the room is small. Part of the performance had a call-and-response portion, and audience participation through clapping was encouraged. Even though the day was in the high seventies, it became quite warm in the room. If you are not distracted or bothered by these things, then definitely attend! I was hopelessly distracted and very self-conscious about my distraction.
Walk to Fritzels for more Jazz. Note: they require each person to order an alcoholic drink in order to sit and listen to the Jazz.
Dinner at Saint John. Note: We had reservations at the kitchen counter, and I would not recommend this. In general, this subreddit has better recommendations for dinner than this restaurant, and I would suggest going someplace else.
Walk to Frenchman Street for Jazz. Note: I'm dumb and thought there would be more folks playing jazz on the street. There were no folks playing on the street when we walked through and music was only inside the bars, which each had drink minimums per set. It seemed like a lot of the music we could hear from walking around was not actually jazz.
Day 4:
Take the street car to Molly's Rise and Shine. Note: they offer a great breakfast, fun decor, and are not crowded early in the morning. I recommend it all around if you are planning on going out to the Garden District!
Walk around Garden District and learn about the historic mansions. Note: there are some great free tours you can google that give you more background/history.
Take street car back to World War II Museum. Note: it really is an amazingly done Museum and you could easily spend all day here. My spouse had a few specific areas he wanted to visit in the museum and was very satisfied. Some of the installations are quite immersive. The museum was very crowded and I found myself needing to take breaks. I am not sure if it is always that crowded or if the rain drove people to do indoor things.
Walk to Peche for late lunch. Note: you need a reservation to eat here and you should not plan on eating here if you have a limited amount of time, like we had. I got a little stressed out since we had an hour and fifteen minutes to eat until we needed to go back to the hotel and get our bags/go to the airport. This was not enough time, and we were rushing to finish/couldn't order dessert. We ordered a bunch of small plates (mostly vegetables), which were mouth-wateringly good. I would have loved to try dessert and some of the larger plates, but we didn't have time.
Thank you, AskNOLA, for letting me lurk and discover many of the fun things your city has to offer! It was an anniversary trip we will never forget!

Cover Art First Chapter Playlist Character sheets
The Story:
Keeping her store on Earth was supposed to keep her out of trouble, but when a human walks through her wards like they weren't there, Aloe finds herself with a mystery on her hands. Unfortunately for the human, her people love mysteries - and if she doesn't intervene, no one will. With old enemies sniffing around after her new charge, the clock is ticking to find their answers.
Rowen stumbled away from the press of buildings that made up Emerald Hills, blinking furiously through the fog that filled his vision, his thoughts. The last few hours were just…flashes. Passing glimpses of Orrans crowding around him, and…and glitters of magic that all sank tonelessly into his skin, and hushed whispers he couldn’t begin to understand.
Whatever they’d given him, it still wrapped around his mind like a wet blanket. When he’d managed to pull away from it for a second, he’d…he’d asked as many questions as he could. Demanded explanations. All had been brushed aside.
And now here he was, pushed out to the curb and told in barely-passable English to return the next morning. The sun was getting low on the horizon, too. Aloe would be mad. She’d…She’d told him to be home by now.
All he could do was put one foot in front of the other, toddling toward home.
The gate passed in a hot, skin-tingling rush. The cool air on the other side brought him staggering to a stop, finally driving their drug far enough away to think.
“What was all that?” he whispered, pressing a hand to his face. His head hurt. He was nauseous, too, just enough to be a constant reminder of where he’d been all day. “What the hell were they doing?”
Slowly, he started to walk again. He wanted to just sit and stare, but perching himself right on the cusp of Emerald Hills’ shell seemed like a fantastic way to get dragged back in for just a few last minute tests.
But…what was that? His brow furrowed as he walked, still trying to piece it all together. He needed…he needed help, but was he really getting that there? They were studying him, sure, but…did they ever intend on passing any of that on?
Or was he just the new toy they’d tucked away for themselves?
His chin jerked higher. Unsteady as his pace might be, he picked his feet up a little. He needed to put up with this. Just for now. He needed their help too much to do anything else. If Aloe had a better option, they’d already be there.
But- But he wouldn’t let himself be pushed around like that again. He couldn’t. If they wanted him to sit and behave like some sort of lab rat, he needed answers. He’d make them cooperate next time.
Head bobbing once in resolution, he drifted toward the Dragon. The world curled around him in hazy shapes and colors, still indistinct enough to leave him feeling like he was caught in a dream. Lanioch’s townsfolk flitted through the street around him, talking happily amongst each other and entirely unaware of his presence.
Rowen staggered to the side as a throng of them passed by, arms loaded full of sacks stuffed with…vegetables. He couldn’t place what sort they were, and he didn’t want to stare to try and figure it out. The woman closest to him glanced his way as they passed, offering a quick smile and a nod.
His breath caught. He lurched back a step, slamming into a wooden crate sitting alongside a warehouse. He hardly noticed. Just for a second, her smile had been the same—and it was her smiling back at him, standing there in the kitchen when he’d come home late, exasperated relief in her eyes. Her grinning across the table at him, a highlighter in one hand and a joke on her lips as she marked up his piss-poor test results.
His funeral would’ve been today, he realized. If he’d had one, anyway. Would his college buddies have come? Would they even know anything had happened? But…even if they didn’t, she’d insist on one, he was sure of it.
She was crying. The knowledge sat in his gut like a lead weight. Somewhere out there, a world away, she was crying. Over him. And no matter how much he wanted to fix it, he…
He couldn’t.
The ground underfoot turned to grass and gravel. Metal creaked gently. Rowen looked up.
The Dragon rose high over him, its eaves blocking out the inky colors of the sunset and its metal sign swinging in the breeze. He stared at it a moment, his ears ringing.
You should go in, his thoughts screamed. Aloe will already be worried. You’re already late. You shouldn’t make things worse. But if he went inside in his current state, she’d- she’d have questions. If she knew what they’d done to him, she’d be pissed. He knew Alone well enough by now to know that much. She’d feel obligated to come up with another solution—one they just didn’t have.
His eyes burned. Rowen swallowed, swiping the back of his arm across his eyes. Damn it. He couldn’t afford to be upset. Not over this. Not right now. Whatever happened to Miss Sara from now on wasn’t his-
The doorbells jingled. Rowen stiffened, his arm falling.
Laughter filled the air. A woman sidled out of the Dragon, dressed in a well-made apron with skin black as night. She paused in the doorway, murmuring something. Rowen saw her wave.
And as she stepped away toward the rest of Lanioch, he saw it too late—Aloe, silhouetted in the now-open door frame. “Rowen?”
“H-Hey,” he said, giving her an awkward wave. He blinked again, trying to clear the haze from his eyes. “Sorry. Running late. Um.”
“Yes, you are,” Aloe said. Her expression softened. “But…as long as everything’s fine, I suppose it’s not a problem.”
“Yep,” Rowen said. “All good.”
“Sweet.” Aloe turned, waving a hand behind her. “C’mon. I’m getting dinner started.”
Right. Food. Because that was something that sounded appealing right then. Rowen gripped the railing of the stairs firmly, taking the steps slow and careful as he ascended. The ground dipped and wavered beneath his feet. When he moved for the door his knee wobbled. His breath hitched as the world twisted and-
A hand closed around his elbow, hauling him back upright. “Careful,” Aloe said. “You good?”
“Y-Yeah,” Rowen mumbled, pulling away from her. He rubbed his eyes. Damn it, get your shit together. “Just- Just tired.” Tired. Yeah. He was tired of a lot of this.
“I bet,” Aloe said, headed for the counter. “Well, you can crash early tonight, at least. There’s a fire ring out in the stable. If you want to get a fire going for dinner-”
“Aloe?” Rowen said, looking up. Everything inside him screamed to stop, to let it go, but…how could he? How could he give up here?
Aloe looked back over her shoulder. “Yeah? Something up?”
Rowen shook his head, lips parting as he tried to find the right words, the way to phrase this that’d get it through to her. “I- I know what you said before,” he mumbled. “About…About secrecy, and all that. And us needing to keep it.”
Her eyes tightened. “Rowen-”
“B-But, isn’t there some way we can work around that?” Rowen burst out, taking a step forward. “I can’t talk about your world. I get it. That’s fine. But there has to be some way for me to- I don’t know. Pass on that I’m- that I’m okay. Even if I’m gone.”
“And how’re you going to do that?” Aloe said, her expression hardening. “Rowen, the minute you talk to someone-”
“I- I don’t have to make her thing it’s really me,” Rowen said, improvising wildly. He could still see Miss Sara there in the pews, hands wrapped tight around each other. “She’s spiritual. She’d just assume-”
“It’s not safe,” Aloe said. “You’re banking a lot on a maybe.”
“I know how she’d react,” Rowen said. And he did. How many stories were out there about someone getting a call from their dead loved one, a message left well after their death? “S-She always has her phone set to go straight to voicemail. For the telemarketers. I don’t even have to talk to her. I can just-”
“It’s too risky,” Aloe interrupted, her voice growing louder. “I’m sorry, Rowen. I wish I could let you. But-”
“Please,” Rowen said, lurching forward again. His vision swam. That horrible fucking image was still caught in his head—Miss Sara with tears running down her face. A casket with a fake body in it. When- When he was fine. He shook his head, trying to force his eyes to focus. “I can’t let things go like this. If you’d just listen to me-”
“I am listening,” Aloe snapped, turning back to face him with sharp eyes and flushed cheeks. “I get it, Rowen. I’m sorry. I really, really am. But we can’t do that. It's way too dangerous, and risky as hell. Please don’t be unreasonable.”
His fists balled up tight at his sides. “So, what? I’m just supposed to keep running away from anything that’s hard?”
“That’s not what I’m-”
“Because that’s gone so well for you, hasn’t it?” He swallowed a snort. “How’s the shop treating you, Oracle?
The instant the words slipped out he wanted to snatch them back, but he couldn’t. He could only stand there, swaying gently as Aloe’s eyes slowly narrowed. The seconds ticked by as the silence grew.
“What you want to do won’t change anything,” she said at last, low and quiet. “You’d just put both of us in mortal danger. Risk our lives. For nothing.
“It’s- It’s not nothing,” Rowen said. “If I can just-”
“You’re dead,” Aloe said. “Dead and gone. Some ghostly message isn’t going to change that, and we’ve got way more important shit to worry about right now. This isn’t some fucking Hallmark movie, kid.”
“But-”
“You need to grow up.” She turned toward the hall, shoulders tight. “Matches are on the counter.”
Rowen stared after her, his mouth still hanging open, but she’d already vanished into the kitchen. A mix of emotions warred in his chest, anger and grief and chagrin all duking it out for supremacy. All he got was pain.
He turned away instead, snatching up the matchbox and storming for the side door. He almost hurled it shut behind him—until he heard a whine and the clatter of toenails against wood.
Daisy hobbled after him, her ears back and tail low. A whine slipped from her throat.
Rowen sighed. “Sorry, girl,” he mumbled, stooping low to give her a scritch behind the ears. “It’s- It’s fine. We’re fine.”
Why was Aloe being so goddamn pig-headed about this? It wasn’t that big a risk. He gritted his teeth, trudging out into the stableyard. It was out in the real world now that Aloe had stuck the Dragon in the merchant’s yard, at least, with a stone fence delineating the edge of their shell. And there was a hearth set off to one side, with some tinder and firewood stored in a protective notch. He grabbed fistfuls out, throwing the pieces into place without really caring where they fell.
He- He did understand where she was coming from. A little. It was a risk, yeah, however small. And…And Miss Sara wouldn’t want him to put himself in danger for her sake. But it wasn’t a big risk. She had that stupid magic cell phone. Surely there had to be something she could do to make a call look supernatural. Fudge the number, or something. He wasn’t suggesting she let him tell their full story or admit he was still alive or something.
Striking a match, he held it to the kindling. He’d spent a bit of time in the Boy Scouts, at least. The Clarkstons had been all too happy to rope him into that while he lived with them. It’d been years, but he remembered a few tricks. Slowly, a tendril of flame started to rise.
Rowen sat back, watching the flames grow higher. Idly he tossed another branch on. His mind still swirled, utterly fixated on the topic. He understood it was a risk. He understood that Aloe wanted to be practical about this.
But…this was the last thing he had. The last connection to his old life. He knew it wasn’t logical to cling to that. It wasn’t reasonable. But the window was closing, damn it. If he just turned his back on it now, followed along meekly and did exactly what Aloe told him to like a trained parrot, he’d…he’d have lost everything. He’d be alone again.
Rowen closed his eyes, letting out a low groan as he started rubbing his face, like this was the sort of strain you could vanish away with a bit of massage. “I’m alone either way, aren’t I?” he mumbled.
And with the night pressing in around him, he knew all he was doing was driving away the only woman still trying to help.
But then...what was he supposed to do?

2024.05.05 15:52 friendoramigo vetting clients and collaborators

I work in LA in the Electrical department and i started doing non union 2 years ago to branch out. From the majority of the other technicians I work with said that it was the "Dumbest" thing in my peers eyes I could have ever done. ultimately in my opinion it's broadened my horizon and exposed me to a world I have always been looking for but not without downfalls.
Fast forward to this past month: I just did 3 separate professional music videos with other independent filmmakers and amazing hearted singers and musicians. I met this crew of electrians day playing union scale wage shows and they're an amazing crew i'm so stoked about it. The people i've met along the road have been nice enough to share a little bit of wisdom an the best I heard in a while is that social media has distorted expectations when a project should come to fruition. Which is putting mildly. The more I write this the better I understand.
The good news: I just shot one promo and a music video shoot all on my own with this guy (musician/acquaintance/rapper) I saw on facebook shooting videos with an iphone. I reached out to him and told him that I admire that and perfectly fine to shoot with the tools you got. if you shot on the iphone. It's. cool that he's getting videos on his own. I gave him some praise and encouragement and his next songs were 20x's better with in 2 days. I wouldn't share his music but I'm glad to hustle . it's s a great opportunity to do a little portfolio work I thought.
Bad news He gives me migrans. We've only been in contact for a week but in my non professional opinion I think he's toxic and lonely so perfect recipe for "camera talent" (dark joke). I'm trying to be supportive but i've tried to set boundaries. I'm trying to treat him as if I was in his shoes but i'm not a "pro" at this artsy fartsy psychology. It's definitely an art. My second to last straw was tonight when I was trimming the video takes with him and get his blessing/feed back of the takes. We could have powered through it in one hour but he was just on his phone and more focused on using me as the spectacle for his video snapchat's and he took a photo of us with out my permission of me working on the footage and captioned it "I love being the back seat driver". I texted him that it was condescending but brushed it off to discuss our next project but he wouldn't answer the phone. But would continue to text me. This is where Infont gave. why
Rewind back a couple days and Our second conversation on the phone was where it started getting uncomfortable because he was grading my stature and ability by my instagram. (which is now looking back it so shallow) I did see it as an incentive and good advice that I've gotten from other professional filmmakers to "spruce up" my instagram. Which is valid 200%.
though I'll argue tooth and nail that if your comfortable with your social media and someone else is admente to equate numbers on a digital screen will make it less or more likely for you to get a head in life in TV/Film crew work the most successful people I've met never got one job through any social media from IMDB to Facebook. It's all just a "nice to have". So i'm not a social media expert but I encourage knowing someone through networking for at least Two weeks before you put any trust in them.
later i'm happily reminded that it's easy to identify a superficial person if you just scratch the surface. He allured me with this false mystique and offered to tag me in his social media so I get more followers and I enjoy social media but I'm not status hoe. After the second video shoot he's complaining to me cause I had not come to meet him to edit the video together. I was enjoying the time off and battling a head ache for 3 days. I knew this is just some stupid political bullshit I'd eventually have to get through but i prayed a little in the back of my head for him to keep his cool after I sent these photos from the video shoot through drop box which I said up front I use for file sharing and if you can't learn to use it then no soup for you.
During this time he sad I was disrespectful for not returning his messages even afterI offered for him to drive to my place because my laptop and second monitor is all set up and also i've already made two trips to him and shot 2 & 1/2 hours + on both trips minimally.
After a week I just said Hey i'm bringing it to your attention that you haven't tagged me in anything. This is where the gaslighting became aparent. I wouldn't have cared if he didn't offer in the first place but he is always taking photos and videos of us and then mentions that he forgot to tag me while I'm juggling light stands and a camera during our shoots.I just was like yo where's your end of the bargain bro? The amount of defense he rose after that was the first red flag. He gave me this whole stupid story about how he never tags anyone and now I know why, all his followers are fake. I'm really trying to be diplomatic and not patronizing but you just can't learn this stuff other than the hard way or with a solid crew. Is there a psychology book I could pick up to identify this stuff? I come from a sports martial arts background so if we bump heads and then get over it but being the bigger man is hard when you're constantly getting stabbed in the back.
would you be so kind to help me navigate this next part strangers and colleges.
My question is since I shot the video with my equipment what's the move? I honestly don't want to be attached to toxic people but I want to show case my work. In a perfect world "collaboratively" with no hard feelings. All suggestions welcome.

2024.05.05 14:26 IrinaSophia Great and Holy Pascha

Great and Holy Pascha
On the Great and Holy Feast of Pascha, Orthodox Christians celebrate the life-giving Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This feast of feasts is the most significant day in the life of the Church. It is a celebration of the defeat of death, as neither death itself nor the power of the grave could hold our Savior captive. In this victory that came through the Cross, Christ broke the bondage of sin, and through faith offers us restoration, transformation, and eternal life.
Holy Week comes to an end at sunset of Great and Holy Saturday, as the Church prepares to celebrate her most ancient and preeminent festival, Pascha, the feast of feasts. The time of preparation will give way to a time of fulfillment. The glorious and resplendent light emanating from the empty Tomb will dispel the darkness. Christ, risen from the dead, cracks the fortress of death and takes "captivity captive" (Psalm 67:19). All the limitations of our createdness are torn asunder. Death is swallowed up in victory and life is liberated. "For as by a man came death, by a man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive" (I Corinthians 15:21-22). Pascha is the dawn of the new and unending day. The Resurrection constitutes the most radical and decisive deliverance of humankind.
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the fundamental truth and absolute fact of the Christian faith. It is the central experience and essential kerygma of the Church. It confirms the authenticity of Christ's remarkable earthly life and vindicates the truth of His teaching. It seals all His redemptive work: His life, the model of a holy life; His compelling and unique teaching; His extraordinary works; and His awesome, life-creating death. Christ's Resurrection is the guarantee of our salvation. Together with His Ascension it brings to perfection God's union with us for all eternity.
The Resurrection made possible the miracle of the Church, which in every age and generation proclaims and affirms "God's plan for the universe, the ultimate divinization of man and the created order." The profound experience of and the unshakable belief in the risen Lord enabled the Apostles to evangelize the world and empowered the Church to overcome paganism. The Resurrection discloses the indestructible power and inscrutable wisdom of God. It disposes of the illusory myths and belief systems by which people, bereft of divine knowledge, strain to affirm the meaning and purpose of their existence. Christ, risen and glorified, releases humanity from the delusions of idolatry. In Him grave-bound humanity discovers and is filled with incomparable hope. The Resurrection bestows illumination, energizes souls, brings forgiveness, transfigures lifes, creates saints, and gives joy.
The Resurrection has not yet abolished the reality of death. But it has revealed its powerlessness (Hebrews 2:14-15). We continue to die as a result of the Fall. Our bodies decay and fall away. "God allows death to exist but turns it against corruption and its cause, sin, and sets a boundary both to corruption and sin." Thus, physical death does not destroy our life of communion with God. Rather, we move from death to life - from this fallen world to God's reign.
Before midnight on Saturday evening, the Odes of Lamentation of the previous day are repeated. The Orthros of the Resurrection begins in complete darkness. The priest takes light from the vigil light and gives it to the faithful, who are holding candles. The priest sings: "Come ye and receive light from the unwaning light, and. glorify Christ, who arose from the dead", and all the people join him in singing this hymn again and again. From this moment, every Christian holds the Easter candle as a symbol of his vivid, deep faith in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ as Savior. In many churches the priest leads the people outside the church, where he reads the Gospel which refers to the Angels statement: "He is Risen; He is not here," (Mark 16:1-8).
Then comes the breathless moment as the people wait for the priest to start the hymn of Resurrection, which they join him in singing, repeatedly: "Christ has Risen from the dead, by death trampling upon Death, and has bestowed life upon those in the tombs". From this moment the entire service takes on a joyous Easter atmosphere. The hymns of the Odes and Praises of Resurrection which follow are of superb meaning and expression. The people confess, "It is the Day of Resurrection, let us be glorious, let us embrace one another and speak to those that hate us; let us forgive all things and so let us cry, Christ has arisen from the dead". By this hymn they admit that love of one's fellowman is the solid foundation of the faith in the Resurrection of Christ.
The Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom is then officiated. At the end of the Liturgy, a part of the marvelous festival sermon of Saint Chrysostom is read, which calls upon the people to "Take part in this fair and radiant festival. Let no one be fearful of death, for the death of the Savior has set us free . . . O Death, where is thy sting? O Hades, where is Thy victory? Christ is Risen and Thou art overthrown. To Him be glory and power from all ages to all ages."
The Scripture readings for the Divine Liturgy are: Acts 1:1-8 and John 1:1-17.
On Easter Sunday afternoon the faithful gather once more for prayer with lighted candles. All sing the hymn, "Christ is Risen from the Dead". The people greet one another joyously, saying: "Christ is Risen", the Easter salutation which is answered, "Truly He is Risen". They sing, "the dark shadows of the Law has passed away by the coming of grace", and standing in exaltation they exclaim, "Who is so great a God as our God?"
The Gospel according to John (20:19-25) is read in various languages, proclaiming the Good News of Resurrection all over the universe without discrimination. The fruit of faith in the Resurrection of the Lord is love in His Name; therefore, this day is called "Sunday of Agape" (love feast), a day dedicated to Christian principles, especially to forgiveness and charity. At this time, Christians seek to end misunderstanding and arguments among those whom they may be at odds. Apostle Paul firmly interprets the Resurrection of Christ, saying: "If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain" (1 Corinthians 15:14). The Church also states in its Creed, "The Third day He rose again."
