The Pull and the Slack

2023.05.31 02:59 AntiDyatlov The Pull and the Slack

I have been developing a somewhat noxious habit recently. You see, years ago, after my last acid trip led me to a psychosis that landed me in the psych ward, along with federal charges pressed against me (psychosis and airplanes really don’t mix!), I haven’t really had opportunity to experience the psychedelic state again, as it would be obviously too dangerous. But I had noticed that my brain is so… different now, that a mild dose of alcohol, enough to give me a buzz, also landed me in a properly psychedelic state.
So once a week I’ve been going to the corner pub, to get that buzz. Sometimes I mix it up by getting a bottle of wine instead.
One evening, I had drank a tall glass of wine, but it really hadn’t given me that buzz. It’s worrisome how much I wanted the buzz. It feels like I understand how someone can become an alcoholic now. Nevertheless, I went ahead and poured myself another tall glass of wine, meaning I would drink about 4/5 of the bottle on that single night.
I looked at that glass on the counter. Then I suddenly got the urge to tip its entire contents into the sink.
I paused. Where did that come from? I ruminated. I told myself how much I would enjoy drinking this, being all cozy and buzzed in my bed. Suddenly, the part of me saying that started sounding like Gríma Wormtongue whispering in my ear. And I realized that the urge to dump the wine more specifically felt like a pull, a pull upwards inside of me, a pull towards something that shines. And the urge to drink it also felt like a pull, a pull downwards, into darkness.
I let myself be pulled upwards. I grabbed the glass and emptied it entirely. And I was rewarded! Doing this instantly gave me a buzz that lasted a good long while, one not tainted by the dullness of alcohol.
And I realized this was not the first time I had felt the upwards pull. It’s what made me start going to the gym. What made me read Plato, and the Bhagavad Gita, and René Guénon.
Nor the first time I had felt the downwards pull. It’s what made me overeat. To meander on the internet. To isolate myself instead of striving to connect with other people.
Calling these things ‘upwards pull’ and ‘downwards pull’ is gonna get old fast. Since the first one I noticed is the upwards pull, let’s just call it ‘the pull’. The other one is also a pull, but it could also be fairly called ‘the slack’, as it opposes the pull, and slack really is its final destination.
But it’s not so simple as the pull being all good. Or the slack being all bad.
Some time after that I was lying in bed, reminiscing about a video game. I do so love video games. Then the pull yanked me again, the urge this time being to go into my living room in that instant and destroy my PS4. I suppose I didn’t feel the slack that time, unless it is that I didn’t notice it because I instinctively went with it. Maybe Wormtongue seduced me.
Another time, I had really got it into my head that I must go and watch John Wick 4. Even went out on a very rainy night to do so. At one point in the movie, a woman gets killed. That didn’t sit right with me, and I started looking at the movie in a much more dim light. What am I even doing? Is watching this shit really different from going to the Colosseum? And I felt the pull, this time telling me that I should stand up and leave, right now. This time, I also felt the slack: just sink into your seat, it was hard enough getting here, you want to get your money’s worth right? I went with the slack, which led to a very interesting experience with the movie. It was like I saw mankind rising against Ṛta in some kind of planet-wide rock concert mixed with a Brazilian carnival. Presumably, I would have seen something different had I left, something completely the opposite.
The pull is good in a way: it really was the right call to ditch that wine. But it’s also an all-consuming conflagration. It wants you to sacrifice all that isn’t it. It was the pull that made Abraham attempt to sacrifice Isaac, and it was the slack that made him change his mind. It was the pull that made the Aztecs sacrifice around 250,000 people per year.
The pull is yang and the slack is yin. When Jesus said:
And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
maybe he was saying to kill yin? Well, yin, the dark side, doesn’t actually stand for evil. And there is this book called Christ, the Eternal Tao, which I haven’t read, but its mere existence is quite the statement.
And yet, what were the yin aspects of Jesus? He seems pure yang, the light side, which means he was imbalanced, which is ironically as close to a definition of evil as Taoism gets.
But, potentially, Jesus knew this. He did ask, 'Why do you call me good?’, which leads one to wonder what could be wrong about him that he had to reject the label ‘good’. Maybe he dimly sensed it was wrong to say things like ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life’, which is very un-taoist, what with its ideal of leading by not-leading (I have no idea what Christ, the Eternal Tao is on about).
That one really was a hell of a saying of Jesus. Can you imagine a guy looking you in the eye and saying that one to you? It’s honestly a legitimate miracle that he did that and at least some bought it. I wonder if I would’ve bought it. Would you have done so?
The pull and the slack map more cleanly into the Hindu guṇas, which are the 3 essential qualities of everything in existence. These are:
  1. Sattva, the ascending tendency, representing balance and harmony and all things good. It’s associated with the color white.
  2. Rajas, the horizontal tendency, representing passion, which is neither good nor bad. Associated with red.
  3. Tamas, the descending tendency, representing imbalance and chaos and all things bad. It’s color is black.
The pull is sattva and the slack is tamas, and it’s pretty neat that I independently confirmed the existence of these things, because it was only later that I learned sattva is an ascending tendency and tamas a descending one.
I haven’t really described rajas, because most things are rajas, at least in my life. Honestly, I would even file masturbation under that one, as I don’t really feel a descent there, and as it turns out, masturbation is not a big deal in Hinduism, it being seen as a very minor infraction even for people who have taken a vow of chastity.
An interesting thing about the guṇas, is that all three need to be present for there to be a manifestation, that is, a universe, at all: there couldn’t be such a thing as a purely sattvic, or tamasic, world. It would be like positing a one-note melody.
So yin-yang is an incomplete symbol. But it does highlight that interesting feature of yang having a dot of yin, and yin of yang: there is no such thing as all-yang or all-yin. If your right hand offends thee, what you really need is a dose of Taoism! (and maybe some Haldol).
We come back to the fact that, ultimately, pouring that wine down the sink was the right call. Would thrashing my PS4 had been the right call also? The third (and I know, final) time I was in the psych ward, I met a very devout, smiling Christian there. He even got other patients to kneel and pray with him. From interacting with him, it wasn’t clear why he ended up warded, but someone later told me that he had started thrashing all the electronics in his house, and when I asked him about it, he said there were demons in there. I shared that intuition for an instant then, and it’s pretty interesting that there’s this environmentalist Christian named Paul Kingsnorth whose work is all about how techno-capitalist civilization is this machine, the Machine, that we have enthroned as God and is in the process of devouring God’s creation, and the only way out is to renounce technology as best as you can and RETVRN TO TRADITION, though he doesn’t go quite that far with that last part (at least right now) being a former leftist and having a well-educated wife that I imagine would never go along with it.
Paul Kingsnorth is doing a more high-brow version of the behavior that got that Christian warded, and looking at it from another angle, the vibe worshipers over on That Part Of Twitter (better known as tpot) have said that AI art gives them bad vibes, and basically, are you down with this video?
Grimes - We Appreciate Power
Or do you want Kalki avatar to come, burn everything down, and restore Satya Yuga? Surely one must pick, it’s all so boring if we get stuck in an Eternal 90s.
Sattva and tamas, the pull and the slack. It pays to be aware of these things, because ultimately, even though the unbridled pull just leads to insanity, the fruit of the slack, tamas, can be seen in the homeless drug addicts which I see everyday. I don’t believe in a yin-yang balance between these things: it is better to have an overall sattvic tendency, to the degree one can manage it. I don’t believe it’s a matter of submitting to some rules. Someone once told me that true brahmins don’t indulge not because they are suppressing their desires, but because they are truly revolted by the things we would call indulging. I can’t say I yearn for such a state, but should I land in it, I don’t think I would resist it.

2022.10.02 18:32 steosphere In 2000, Rodney Marks was hit with a mysterious illness at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica. He died shortly thereafter, and the cause was determined to be Methanol poisoning, How he came to ingest the chemical, and the facts around his death, remain unknown.

The bone-chilling, frigid winds scream across the frozen landscape of the South Pole. It is one of the most inhospitable regions on the planet, with its biting temperatures and winters of perpetual darkness. The Antarctic continent repels human habitation, yet several hundred call it home for periods of the year. In May 2000, Rodney Marks, one of the astrophysicists residing at the Amundsen-Scott Research Station, is walking between two of the compound’s facilities when he begins to feel ill. His symptoms gradually worsen until, only a day later, he succumbs to his ailment and passes away. The weather forbids a post-mortem until six months later when a fatal quantity of Methanol is found in his system. How he ingested this poison becomes a mystery as perpetual as an Antarctic winter. A doctor curiously disappears, corporate subterfuge is suspected, and claims begin to swirl that this is the first recorded murder at the South Pole. But the truth about what happened to Rodney Marks remains unknown, leading to a story that will be told for decades.

The Ferocity of the Antarctic Winter

There is no greater land mass on the planet mostly inhospitable to human life than Antarctica. It is the fifth largest continent on Earth and is classified as a polar desert. Its winds are sharp and frozen, and the ground is covered in a mile-dense sheet of ice. Antarctica is governed by around fifty-five countries, all of whom are parties to the Antarctic Treaty System—an international agreement that forbids mining, nuclear testing, and military activity on the continent. Countries such as Argentina, Russia, and China have large presences on the landscape. The United States also operates research facilities, including the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. It is here where the mystery of Rodney Marks’ death begins.
Named after Roald Amundsen and Robert F. Scott, the first two people to lead teams to the South Pole in the early 1900s, the Amundsen-Scott station is located at the southernmost tip of the United States’ jurisdiction on the continent. It is operated and maintained by the Office of Polar Programs, a subdivision of the National Science Foundation. Some operations are also contracted out to Raytheon Polar Services. The station is the only habitation on Earth that is entirely shielded from the Sun for six months of the year. Overnight temperatures can drop to as low as -73C (-99F). During these winter months, fearsome storms regularly erupt, producing dangerous blizzards and gale-force winds that ravish the landscape. But in the intermittent periods, the location’s true beauty can be seen. The sky becomes clear and littered with excellent astronomical opportunities. The brutality of the cold may be enduring, but the respite periods are a thing for the imagination.
The Amundsen-Scott facility has been expanded since its initial inception in 1956 to comprise a wider array of buildings, including power plants, a clean air facility, and a geodesic dome at its heart. A symbolic pole lies within the compound’s grounds, marking the geographic location of the Earth’s magnetic south. The station’s resident staff occupy living quarters in the dome for the time they are there. During more recent winter periods, lasting from March to September, staffing levels may only be as high as a few dozen people. In May 2000, as the bitter winds of winter had already begun to set in, the station was populated by fifty people, including an astrophysicist named Rodney Marks.

The Life of an Astrophysicist

Rodney Marks was born in 1968 in Geelong, Australia. He was thirty-two years old at the time of his death and had experienced Tourette’s Syndrome since he was a child. Marks was an Australian national who has been described by a colleague as being a ‘brilliant, witty, and steady sort of bloke’. His academic achievements were wide and commendable; he received his education at the University of Melbourne, before moving on to pursue a PhD at the University of South Wales. His true passions lay in the field of astrophysics, which was the trajectory that brought him to the South Pole. Marks had spent the winter of 1997-1998 at the Amundsen-Scott Station, absorbing its beauty and opportunities for scientific research. He was then employed by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and returned to the station in 2000 to begin work on the Antarctic Submillimeter Telescope and Remote Observatory. Marks’ connection to the station grew even further when he met Sonja Wolter, who had also been working at the station. The two grew closer, eventually becoming engaged. Wolter sought residence at the station at the same time as her now-fiancé, and the two—alongside over colleagues—bunkered down for the long, dark winter. But in May 2000, as the season was underway, their happiness would come to a tragic, mysterious end, as Rodney Marks’ strange illness began.

The Timeline of Rodney’s Illness and Death

Winter was in full force, shrouding the Amundsen-Scott Station in a darkness that would only end months later. But the critical scientific research needed to continue unabated by the weather. On 11th May 2000, Rodney Marks was walking between the remote observatory of the station and its base of operations. In a matter of moments, he began to feel strangely unwell. His breathing became laboured, he felt utterly exhausted, and his vision was becoming blurred and obfuscated. Worried, he visited the station’s medical doctor, Robert Thompson, who was stumped by Marks’ ailment. He suspected that alcohol withdrawal may have been the culprit, as Marks was known to be a heavy drinker, but instead he opted to reassure his patient and send him on his way.
A day later, at 5.30 AM, Marks awoke to the horrifying realisation that his symptoms had not only persisted but worsened. He began to vomit blood, and he experienced great pain when moving his muscles and joints. His eyes had also become excessively sensitive to even the low-wattage light of the station’s bulbs, necessitating the use of sunglasses. Panic-stricken, Marks made his second visit to Dr Thompson. His diagnosis was that Marks was experiencing a panic attack, and the treatment was the administration of a sedative injection allowing Marks to get some well-needed rest. This notion, however, would prove fruitless.
Hours later, Rodney Marks returned to the doctor for the third and final time. His unusual symptoms were continuing to get worse, and he was now in a state of abject terror. Hyperventilation had set in, making treatment problematic. Dr Thompson then administered another injection to his patient—one dosed with the anti-psychotic known as Haldol. Thompson would later testify that such medication was necessary due to Marks’ erratic and panicked state. But forty-five minutes after this treatment, Marks experienced a severe cardiac arrest from which he did not recover. In the space of thirty-six hours, Rodney Marks deteriorated from good health to death. The illness that ended his life remained undiagnosed and would continue that way for the next six months.
The harsh Antarctic climate forbid the movement of Marks’ body from the station to the mainland. Planes could not land or take off in the exceptional blizzards that were cold enough to freeze the engine fluid in a matter of moments. Thus, an autopsy was not immediately performed, and Marks’ body remained in frozen storage for the entire winter period. When word eventually leaked into the wider world about his death, the National Science Foundation released a statement saying that Marks had ‘apparently died of natural causes, but the specific cause of death has yet to be determined’. Media outlets across the world latched onto the story, dubbing it the first murder at the South Pole. The true cause of Rodney Marks’ death was held in limbo until his body was able to be extracted to Christchurch, New Zealand in November 2000. Spring had begun, ceasing the dark months and cold storms, and illuminating the continent once more. As it turned out, however, his death had been the result of entirely unnatural causes.

The Investigation and Coroner’s Inquest

The Initial Post-Mortem
Once Rodney Marks’ body had been successfully transferred to Christchurch in November 2000, the long-awaited autopsy could finally be performed. The results were illuminating. The doctor noted the presence of two mysterious injection sites on Marks’ arms, but no detectable presence of illegal drugs in his system. Whether these were the result of Dr Thompson’s failed treatment attempts or if they were present before that day is unknown. More critically, however, the truth of how Marks had died could finally be determined. It had not been an aneurysm, as some had first suspected, but a fatal dose of Methanol. The chemical was widely available across the Amundsen-Scott Station as the solvent was present in cleaning agents used to sterilise scientific equipment. Marks had ingested a dose of approximately 150ml—enough to fill a small wine glass. How he had come to ingest such a large quantity was a question the post-mortem could not answer.
The initial analysis of Marks’ body came simultaneous with the original theory: that Marks had distilled his own alcohol and accidentally poisoned himself with Methanol. He had apparently been known to be a heavy drinker, and there were no immediate signs that foul play may have been involved. There were issues with this theory, however, which we will discuss later. In the meantime, once the post-mortem had concluded, both the United States and New Zealand agreed to hold a coroner’s inquest to firmly examine the facts of Marks’ death. First, however, there needed to be an official police investigation. This would come to uncover some interesting and pertinent details about Marks’ perplexing death.

The Detective’s Investigation
The onset of the official investigation would eventually begin, but it first highlighted the issues around the governance of Antarctic territory. The base, and most American operations on the continent, was located within the Ross Dependency territory belonging to New Zealand. Supplies to the station were also dispatched from here. This occupancy has not been questioned by the United States government, but it has also never been formally acknowledged. There were issues regarding which country would conduct the investigation, but it was ultimately determined that the New Zealand police would undertake the enquiries. Detective Senior Sergeant (DSS) Wormald Grant at the NZ police was assigned to the case, under the direction of the Christchurch coroner, Richard McElrea. The US did not object to this directive, and the investigation could proceed unhindered.
One of Wormald’s first lines of enquiry was to determine the intent behind Marks’ death—specifically whether he had committed suicide, fallen victim to an accident, or been killed. Suicide was immediately ruled out; Methanol consumption would’ve been a strange method of choice, and Marks had sought medical assistance once his symptoms had manifested. He had entered a new relationship which appeared to be going well, and his academic achievements had not declined. Marks also had no financial issues that would have explained potential mental health difficulties. As a result, DSS Wormald came to one clear conclusion: that Rodney Marks had unknowingly ingested the Methanol, and a possible method in which this had occurred was through deliberate poisoning.
At the time that news of Rodney Marks’ death had leaked into the wider world, the National Science Foundation released a statement proclaiming that his demise had been the result of natural causes. Wormald was keen to know the information that directed them to such a conclusion. He requested access to the reports generated by internal investigations, as well as the names of the other people stationed at the Amundsen-Scott base at the time Marks had died. His requests were denied by both the NSF and Raytheon Polar Services, who undertook some operations at the site. The NSF also stated that no such report existed, though Wormald found it difficult to imagine that to be the case. The United States Department of Justice also requested information from both organisations, who again denied the request. This led Wormald to conclude that pertinent facts about Rodney Marks’ death were being withheld from the police and the coroner for unknown reasons.
Wormald’s requests for the names of other staff at the base may have been denied, but the matter did not end there. Their names eventually became known after a roster of the station’s staff was obtained over the internet, although by whom I cannot determine. Forty-nine people were on the list, and most of them were American. Face-to-face access was clearly difficult, so an alternative method was devised. The NZ police constructed a questionnaire and sent it to everybody on the list. According to The Guardian, only thirteen people responded. Wormald later told a local newspaper that he believed Marks’ colleagues were hesitant to come forward out of fear that their employment would be threatened if they did. The information from the questionnaires that were received was unfortunately minimal, leading to a vacancy of relevant leads on which to work.
DSS Wormald’s investigation significantly slowed down as the flow of information began to cease. But it never came to an official end, which remains to this day. Despite the lack of cooperation by most parties involved, his overall conclusion remained the same: Rodney Marks had unknowingly consumed the Methanol that killed him. All that remained was for the coroner to reconvene the investigation, although some time would pass before that day would arrive.

The Coroner’s Inquest
The Christchurch coroner, Richard McElrea, reconvened the investigation into Rodney Marks’ death in December 2006. One of the key issues brought up during the proceedings was the treatment Marks had received from Dr Robert Thompson, the medical practitioner stationed at the Amundsen-Scott base. Marks had visited him three times during the rapid development of his illness. The medical notes he had taken were the subject of scrutiny after another doctor stationed nearby reviewed them and determined that Thompson had fallen short of what he should have done for his patient. Additionally, Thompson had access to an Ektachem Blood Analysis machine that, if used, would have provided critical information about Marks’ condition. This did not take place, as Thompson claimed the machine was complicated to use and that its battery had been depleted and would require up to ten hours to recharge. These claims were refuted by fellow doctors. Finally, Thompson’s use of an anti-psychotic injection was questioned. The administration of medication with tranquillising effects in an undiagnosed patient exhibiting signs of liver failure was contended by other medical doctors. But Thompson defended its use, suggesting that Marks’ panicked state made treatment virtually impossible. Whether this treatment choice was justifiable is a matter of opinion and dictated by hindsight. Nevertheless, the fact remains that Thompson’s conduct was a significant point of contention throughout the inquest.
After all of the relevant facts had been accumulated, the coroner’s inquest was indefinitely adjourned until a later date. But before that could happen, Dr Thompson disappeared. He made no contact with the media and other relevant authorities and has not done so since the inquest in 2006. Where he went and why he ceased involvement is not known.
Two years later, in September 2008, the written report of the coroner’s inquest was released based on the police investigation and the facts gleaned from the official proceedings. There was no evidence that a prank had been played on Marks that had gone awry. There were also no signs that foul play had occurred, or that Marks had committed suicide. The report did not reach a definitive conclusion as to how Rodney Marks ingested the Methanol that killed him—a fact that remains true today. But in the absence of such a conclusion, speculation has been rife about what may have happened on that cold, dark day.

The Theories Behind Rodney Marks’ Poisoning

There has, understandably, been a plethora of theories put forth to potentially explain Rodney Marks’ death over the years. One of the most prevalent ideas is that Marks may have accidentally consumed a fatal dose of Methanol during the distillation process of homemade alcoholic spirits. Such activity was reportedly common at the facility amongst the many scientists stationed there despite the wide availability of alcoholic drinks. Both Methanol and Ethanol, which is far less toxic, were used during this process, but both are colourless and almost entirely odourless. They may have been indistinguishable from one another, leading to a potential mix-up. This is substantiated further, as DSS Wormald’s investigation uncovered information that suggested Marks’ laboratory workspace was disorganised and messy. Bottles of lab agents were reportedly strewn between dozens of empty alcohol bottles. Plus, Marks had apparently been known to be a heavy drinker. If he had been slightly drunk at the time, the chances of him making a fatal mistake would have been increased. Could this explain how Marks came to ingest such a large quantity of Methanol?
Perhaps, but there are issues with this theory. Marks was a qualified and experienced scientist; those who knew him did not believe it was feasible that he would make such a calamitous error. Also, whilst Ethanol and Methanol have visible comparability, they are said to have distinct smells and tastes. If Marks had confused the two, the alcohol should have tasted much different, making the mistake obvious. It does not preclude the possibility that an adverse taste was not detected, or that Marks may have made the error despite his experience, but it does suggest that accidental poisoning may not be as clear-cut of a scenario as it may first seem.
A second prominent theory regarding Marks’ death is that he deliberately consumed the Methanol. Living in such extremely remote regions brings with it the understandable sense of complete isolation and loneliness—precursors to depressive episodes that may lead to suicidal ideations. Potential occupants at Antarctic research stations are reportedly physically and psychologically screened beforehand, but the strength of these tests is not known. It has been speculated that Marks may have knowingly consumed Methanol either to kill himself or to become sick enough to be sent home. But again, this is problematic. Marks had spent time at the base before, so he was well aware of the effect the location could have. Also, if he had wanted to be sent home, there were far easier ways to fake an illness to achieve this purpose. But perhaps the biggest problem with this theory is that Marks sought medical attention once his symptoms began. If he had knowingly consumed Methanol, it is difficult to see why he would do this.
Finally, many people have speculated that Marks was, in fact, a murder victim. The media quickly ran with this theory, suggesting that the case may have been the first killing at the South Pole. Others have agreed with such a suggestion over the years, including DSS Wormald, who has always remained steadfast in his belief that Marks unknowingly ingested the chemical. If Marks had been murdered, it would be difficult to construct a suspect pool or posit a motive. The colleagues he had been stationed with at the time have since scattered across the globe, and much time has passed since that day. Because of this, it is difficult to speculate whether this may or may not have been the case. We don’t know what happened at the base in the days and weeks before Marks died, nor what happened afterwards. The accuracy of the theory, therefore, remains unclear, but it has not prevented it from becoming one of the most popular suggestions amongst those familiar with the case.

Closing

Twenty-two years have passed since Rodney Marks sadly succumbed to his illness within the cold, ice-ravished walls of the Amundsen-Scott Station. His body was buried at the Bellbrae Cemetery in Mount Duneed, Victoria, in his native homeland of Australia. A mountain in the Worcester Range was also named ‘Mount Marks’ in his memory. It stands tall at 8530ft and has a plaque erected at its base bearing his name. Another memorial was created in January 2001 and resides at the South Pole. Sadly, however, we are no nearer to determining exactly how he came to consume the Methanol that prematurely ended his life. Perhaps one day the speculation can end and his family will finally have the answers they have sought for so many years. Until then, his mysterious death will continue to remain unsolved.

Once again, thank you for reading! I have a fascination with unsolved mysteries that took place at some of the most remote locations on Earth, so as soon as I came across the case of Rodney Marks, I knew I had to write it up here. There is a wealth of information scattered across the internet about the case. I have tried to summarise most of it here, but there are other details that I recommend you look into if you’re interested. And as always, I welcome any suggestions for cases you think I should look at with the possibility of writing up!

2022.07.24 04:28 OriginalCable9115 True Fact: Manic people send shit-loads of texts to all their contacts and chat-up-a-storm with as many people who will entertain/satiate the manic person's unfathomable desire to type things to people! 👍

I had an interesting discussion with someone in the "AskTransgender" subreddit and just wanted to present the information I gave him a few hours ago and now give it to a community full of mania-experts! (but with the words "True Fact" put in front of the statement to provide a somewhat-coherent reason for why I'm stating a random fact to people I don't know on Reddit)
Then an hour or two later, I found myself typing to someone for no reason about turtles and telling them some manic nonsense about evolutionary turtle-hating vegans on the "Evolution" subreddit which is neither here nor there...
In summary, I'll be making an "AMA" tomorrow on the CasualAMA-subreddit about my experience being sent to the "state mental hospital". Fun fact: I live in one of the 10 largest states in America and the "state mental hospital" is the end-of-the-road place that unsalvageable mental-patients are sent to, who are "beyond the paygrade of a 1st-line mental hospital's capabilities."
If either of the following 2 movement-pathologies appear ANYWHERE on a drug or medication's "rare side effects" then listen up:
Chances are you might be 100% fine and never wind up like this! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
The reason this video only has 94 views is because Big-Pharma "influencers" have a HUGE incentive to suppress the truth of what drugs like Abilify, Invega, Risperidone, Zyprexa, Haldol, ETC... will do to you after 40+ years on them! 🤦‍♂️
I will be creating a petition tomorrow on the Twitch-Streamer TRAINWRECKStv's new mental health app called "Rise above the disorder" and the petition will invoke a formal decree for Pfizer (within 15 years) to invent a permanent cure for not just bipolar disorder but for ALL mental disorders which are caused by an excessive dopamine surplus in the brain which must therefore be treated with antidopaminergic drugs.
It will be a no-brainer for Pfizer as all that company will have to do is send an email to their top laboratory scientist and tell him to "get on it" and that's all it will take! 👍

2021.06.18 08:43 SchwarzerKaffee Nuremburg Trial results: Guilty! Penalty: SOLITARY CONFINEMENT. I emailed a copy of this letter to CNN. Feel free to send this to press@psych.org. I sent it to them once already ;) Don't forget to check out their website and laugh your asses off!!!

Dear Association of Psychiatrists,
I am writing to inform you that I am cancelling your little racket you got going on there. You see, I am a victim of your torturous money-making operation, and I'm not even gonna bother wasting money on a team of crack lawyers to sue you. Instead, I'm going to simply teach you what Psychiatry really is.
This is a free lesson for you and all your buddies.
The Soviet Union had political prisons. They called those 'psych wards', too. And they did the exact same thing as you are doing. Why would you copy that? It was considered torture.
Here's a link to read up about that:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_abuse_of_psychiatry_in_the_Soviet_Union
Since you also suffer from the inability to comprehend the written word, here's some funny movies to watch together while you're ignoring your patients instead of helping them:
https://www.cchr.org/documentaries/
You see, I was hospitalized 12 times against my will and forcefully injected with poisons, and you wouldn't even tell me the ingredients because they are "proprietary". Don't you think I have a right to know what you're sticking in my body, or are you getting too rich by lying to us all?
"Antipsychotics" are actually low-grade nerve agents. They are poisonous to your brain, and that's why they work. You would know this if you ever bothered to try them yourselves. They are called "truth serum" in the world of espionage. Novichok is simply a stronger version of the high-dollar pills you force on your patients. Novichok was also developed in political prisons called "psych wards". How is it that I know so much more about this than you? Or did you already know this the whole time since you have that fancy piece of paper hanging on the wall?
Antipsychotics treat symptoms of psychosis, which is a natural process of the brain when smart people are coming up with new ideas. Another term for psychosis is "creativity". And you nice people killed mine for years and years with your wiley little cash cow. You never bother to ask us questions beyond your checklists, so how would you know what's going on in our mind. The simple fact is that your patients are smarter than you, and your narcissism will not allow you to see that. You think you know our brains better than we do. That's delusional. A symptom of many "illnesses" in the DSM V. What a lovely piece of trash that book is. Every human emotion has an expensive pill associated with it. What a nice business model. You don't even have to work for a living and yet you make all that money. A simple app could automate your job. Did you know that?
You don't know what you're doing. And I'm about to make all of your degrees completely fucking worthless. Why don't you tell your patients the history of Psychiatry? We all discuss it openly on Antipsychiatry. Everyone thinks we're crazy, but we don't care, we know what we're doing. We're having fun sharing the research that you never tell us because there is no "informed consent" in your practice. We even form secret groups so you can't see what we're really up to, but let's just say the lunatics have already taken over the Asylum, and you're clueless asses haven't the slightest inkling of that. What fools you are.
Tell your buddies not to bother showing up to work on Monday. That's when the Nuremberg Trials start for you guys. Psychiatry kills more people than the Holocaust every few years, yet you have society deluded into thinking that you're helping us and we're just crazy for saying otherwise. That's evil. No, wait, that's called "Gaslighting", a form of torture. Did you know the Holocaust was started by a psychiatrist who was fired by the Nazis for, and you're never gonna believe this one, being too cruel. Hitler started the model of your hospital as a form of eugenics. No different than what you do. When you're locked up in a nuthouse and can't get a job when you get out because people think you're crazy, you become destitute and it's hard to start a family in that situation.
I was diagnosed 12 times in a row as Bipolar I with psychotic features. Wow! You guys kept putting me back in the hospital even though you weren't fixing me. Trying the same thing again and again expecting a different result is the literal definition of insanity. You should know that. You're supposed to know things like that. Did you learn anything in school besides how to prescribe pills for everything?
The truth is, I'm not Bipolar. I'm just a literal genius, and I can prove that. I studied the psychiatric systems of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union in those countries. Since I was in Russia, I learned a little bit about Communism while I was there. And just like magic, I return to America and wind up in a political prison called a 'psych ward'. See how that works? You have no idea what I was working on, and you stole several years of my life and don't have the money to pay me for what that was worth to my Country. You'll find out sooner or later.
The truth is that Haldol works amazingly. When your mind gets very creative, people around you get scared, so you can pop half a tab of Haldol and just slow your mind down a little so you can more clearly explain to people your genius vision that they can't yet comprehend. You guys act like we have to take it for life, but when you take it and you don't need it, it is pure torture on several levels. Maybe one day you'll get a taste of your own medicine and you'll see why we don't want to keep taking it.
If you take Antipsychotics for too long, you become addicted, but you lie about that. What happens to the brain is it develops new receptor sites for things like dopamine and serotonin because Antipsychotics block the natural receptors and the brain adapts. This is how the addiction forms. When you stop taking Antipsychotics, you have double the receptors open, and this causes what is called "Supersensitive Psychosis", much more powerful and downright terrifying than normal, naturally occurring psychosis. This is how you keep the revolving door going, because instead of allowing a person to detox or help them wean off, you just mix up another expensive cocktail until you "get it right", yet you never cure anyone. Ever.
You have no logical basis for these "cocktails" that you sell us. You literally just throw a dart at a board. I know. 8 years of taking them and 12 visits to the hospital gave me a chance to really spy hard on you guys, which is quite funny, because you guys kept saying I thought I was a Russian Spy. What made you think that? Because I told you I speak 6 languages. Did you think I was lying about that? If I were a Russian Spy, why in the fuck would I tell you that? That would be stupid. I was just yelling at you in Russian for fun. And you assumed I'm a Russian Spy.
Ok. Let's play your little game. If you have a patient in a psych hospital who thinks they're a Russian Spy, why not ask them why they think that? Did you ever stop to think there could be national security issues involved with that? Or don't you even care about the safety of your own nation where you get to make the big bucks. And you wonder why I was calling you Capitalist Pigs. Not very hard to figure out if you just try to.
Here's a hypothetical situation for you. Imagine if there was a person who went to spy on Russia, and while they were there, the Russians turned them into a spy for them, and then sent them home, and that person was just trying to tell people that. Wouldn't this person look like a Russian Spy to you? Do you have any idea how lethal Russian Spies are? Have you heard of the KGB? And did you know that a patient in a psych hospital can kill the doctor and get away with it, because they have no Constitutional Rights in there, so they can't be held criminally liable for their crimes.
You really should know this, because while psychiatrists spend by far the least amount of time with patients, in my experience often 5 minutes a day every third day or so, yet they are by far the most likely person to be assaulted in the hospital. We really hate you guys. We talk about you the entire time and learn your ways from each other. Psychiatric systems like yours always fail because eventually the Lunatics take over the Asylum. That's why there's a saying like that. Because that happened throughout history. Since I studied history, I saw this coming long ago, and I get to help lead the charge with all my buddies over at Antipsychiatry and our secret boards we will never tell you about. Why don't you visit www.reddit.com/Antipsychiatry and try arguing with us there. I double dare ya! Let the public watch that, since they aren't allowed to see what goes on in your dungeons. I got to watch, and I got a big fucking mouth on me.
Psychiatrists are the only insane people in the hospital. That's the joke. You willingly go there everyday, yet very few of you are actually trying to help people. The staff there is far better at caring for the patients than any of you. They actually care, and they get paid dick and have to work the graveyard shift while you nap in your castles. So seriously, just stay home. We don't need you. I'm serious. I can build a simple app that does your job better than you. I'm not the kind of guy who jokes about things like that. Imagine the money we could save on insurance if we didn't have to pay you to do nothing but torture people.
I'm getting bored so I'll let you go. Why don't you just go ahead and forward this to your entire organization because, judging by the CC on this one, it's not staying a secret for long. The President is on there for a reason and I'm sure as fuck not telling you anything about that, you stupid Nazis.
So you can believe me or think I'm lying, but I have a far better track record in telling the truth than any of you Schizophrenic Narcissists who need lots and lots of that Haldol shoved right up your asses to cure that.
But ask yourself a question, would you ever play Russian Roulette with a Russian Spy. Well, you're doing that now.
And the President and these other people are included on this email for a reason. But a spy never tells...
Thank you for teaching me how to torture people so well. I kind of like being tortured now. I'd love a job where I could torture people and get paid to do it. Maybe I'll just become a psychiatrist, myself.
Sincerely,
A Crazy Man

WHO's klassificering för olika diagnoser hittas i IDC, kort för International Classification of Diseases.
Psykiatrin blev inte del av sjukvården förrän så sent som år 1845.
Jämfört med tusentals år av annan sorts läkekonst.
Psykiatrin delades upp i två sorters sjukdomar.

2017.10.21 17:53 ZedBelinsky When a Psychiatrist Meets the Devil

The house looked normal. It stood on a quiet suburban street with its New England cape-style neighbors. The Hydrangea bushes looked well-maintained, as if they had a tendency of creeping up on the windows above. From this distance the flowers looked like blue wrapping paper that had been scrunched up and thrown on the bushes. I noticed that every curtain in the place had been drawn shut.
I was visiting the home of seventeen-year old Lucia Kraus. Her mother set up an appointment with me earlier that week. According to her, Lucia was experiencing some form of psychosis. She had met with several other professionals but none of the treatments had worked. She had turned to me in her time of need, and I happily accepted. I said a quick prayer to Saint Michael and rang the doorbell.
A thin-faced woman opened the door. Her features were drawn out, and she looked like she had forgotten what a good night’s sleep felt like. She greeted me in a red, fuzzy bathrobe and invited me inside.
I stepped over the threshold and looked around.
“Dark in here,” I admitted. The only light came from the glow of the TV, where Steve Harvey was making fun of some big-bosomed blonde that was showing way too much skin for a family-friendly show.
“Too much light makes Lucia’s head hurt… Can I get you anything? Coffee?” Mrs. Kraus asked, twirling her finger impatiently.
“No thank you,” I replied with a smile. I could tell by the strain in her voice that she was eager to get down to business. Frankly, I was too. I was in a hurry to get home in time to catch my kid’s game.
“Can you ask her to come downstairs?”
“I’m right here,” a voice behind me responded. My heart skipped a beat, but I managed to stifle my surprised reaction and calmly turned around.
The young girl was sitting at the kitchen table. I could just about make out her face. The rest of Lucia blended into the veil of darkness behind her.
“Do you want to turn on the light?” I asked cheerfully, not wanting to give away how weirded out I really was by all this.
“No.” she replied curtly.
“Well,” I said patiently, “I need to take notes so I can better remember out conversation. And for that I need just a little bit of light. Is there a lamp I can bring over or-“
“Light these candles. They should be good enough,” she said with the same flat tone. Her face was an expressionless mask that hung severed in the darkness.
Fucking teenage angst, I thought to myself. My body language remained positive. Looking back at it I wish this case had been as simple as a teen just going through a phase. It would be a few months of saying “Fuck you!” to the man and then they’d slowly figure out their place in the world with or without help.
“Great!” I exclaimed. I lit the candle that had been conveniently placed on the kitchen table and sat across from Lucia. The light from the flame made her look like a Jack-o-Lantern. Her mother sat in the living room quietly, but she was listening intently.
“So Lucia,” I said with a click of my pen, “let me start off by saying what’s going on with this whole living in the dark thing? People weren’t born to be nocturnal. Does the light give you migraines? You know I could prescribe you something to fix those? Those can be a real pain in the rear sometimes.”
At first she didn’t respond. I wrote her name and today’s date at the top of my notebook in the meantime. I was old school when it came to taking notes. There was something about physically writing words that helped them stick in your brain longer.
I looked up at her and patiently smiled. The key here was to not force her into talking. There’d be no tapping of fingers or checking my watch. I would work with what she gave me. Overstepping my boundaries could result in some seriously impeded progress.
“No, I don’t think those would help,” she said softly.
“Have you ever tried them, like Excedrin or something similar? I can give you something stronger to help cope-“
“No, it’s fine. Honest.” The severed mask said, although with her jaw moving up and down she now resembled a broken puppet.
I decided to try to talk to her from a different approach. I started to bullshit with her. I made small talk, and tried to find something we could mutually discuss. I asked her about school. She gave me the general teenage response. I asked her if she had any friends. She said she had a few, but would much rather spend time alone than with people. She called her friends ‘fake’. I asked a few questions that would suggest Avoidant Personality Disorder, but checked that one off the list when she told me she was a cheerleader. I then probed her school life through simple questions and scenarios. (“Do you get all your homework done on time?” “If a girl spilled her lunch tray on her, would you respond by punching her in the face?”) Her answers did not reflect any antisocial tendencies. As more personality disorders got eliminated, I started to ask about her hobbies. I asked her about her favorite shows on Netflix. I piped up when she mentioned Stranger Things and I was golden. We started discussing the show like old friends. She was opening up to me. Her face was more animated now. She began talking with her hands, a sign of passion. A good sign. I quickly reviewed my notes. Given what I had known at the time, I jotted down SPD with a question mark. I began to leave the questions more open-ended.
“When did you start getting these headaches?” I asked.
“More than a month now,” she said.
“I hear you’ve tried to get help before. But it didn’t work out so hot. Do you mind telling me what happened?”
“They didn’t understand. None of you do.”
“Understand what, Lucia?”
The girl looked nervous now. Her eyes darted back and forth from corner to corner of the room. I could tell she was wrestling with something in the troughs of her mind. Slowly, she leaned forward and whispered,
“They don’t like the light.”
What may have felt like top secret information to Lucia was casual business to me.
“Who doesn’t like the light?” I asked in a rehearsed voice.
“The people who talk to me, but no one else can hear them.” So the girl had a type of schizophreniform disorder, a developing schizophrenia, if you will. She was experiencing auditory hallucinations. Nothing a bit of Haldol and routine check-ups couldn’t fix.
“They tried giving me anti-psychotics,” she said with wet eyes, as if she had read my mind. Her voice was becoming unsteady, “but they don’t work. Nothing does. The voices only get louder. And things have been getting worse. Sometimes they talk through me and I black out for a few minutes.”
“Do you think I could speak with one of them?” This sounded like DID coupled with some dissociative fugue. She was already worked up, and I’d have to calm her down after speaking to one of her “voices”. It worked like a telephone, I’d speak to the voice on the line for a little, then politely ask them to reconnect me with Lucia.
Lucia was quiet for a moment. Her head slowly started to sink toward the table, as if she was meaning to kiss it. Suddenly she jerked upright, shaking her head violently.
“No, no, they don’t want to talk to you! Please, you must leave. They’re so loud… it hurts!”
I stretched my hand out towards hers and warmly held it.
“Lucia, you must listen to me. I can help you. You have something that is treatable. I can make the voices go away.” Lucia, it’s all in your head. It’s simply your brain producing too much dopamine and causing your senses to go into overdrive. It makes you experience visual and auditory hallucinations. They aren’t real. They’re just a biochemical byproduct. I have drugs that can block the receptors that absorb the extra dopamine. And then I can get you something for those migraines and you’d be all set. You’ll be fine just stop crying.. please don’t cry please this is very controllable Lucia.
Her forehead was now resting against the table. I continued to rub my hand over hers.
“Lucia? Lucia!” I shook her but she did not stir. I stood up with such force that the chair I had been sitting on almost tipped over. I fumbled for the light switch.
“No! Leave that on!” came Lucia’s voice suddenly. Only, did my ears pick up on a second, more layered voice within Lucia’s? The voice sounded ancient, like it had seen many moons. It also sounded irritated.
I froze, my hand on the light switch. I thought about flipping it on and telling Lucia that I was done playing her game. That I’d prescribe her anti-psychotics and benzos and tell her to call me once a week. Then, I’d’ve walked out that door and got home just in time to bring my son to his baseball game.
But my hand never turned on that light.
I remained motionless. Some deep, long-undisturbed curiosity was beginning to arouse within me. Some sort of primal instinct that had been present since the dawn of man, and had since been leading men to their downfalls.
I slowly turned to face Lucia. She returned my gaze. Her face still remained blank, but there was something in her eyes that even in the faded glow of the candle I could make out. They had turned pitch black.
The two obsidian stones seemed to stare right through me. Although we locked eyes for no more than a few microseconds, it felt as though I had transcended hundreds of thousands of years, to a time when the forests were still young and strange beasts roamed the earth, back to a time when humans weren’t the apex predators. The silent spell was broken.
“Hiya Doc.” Her tone sounded gleeful, almost mocking.
My mouth dried up and felt like cotton. It couldn’t be...
“To whom am I speaking?” I tried to straighten my body posture, but I felt as exposed as a deer in the headlights. Suddenly I felt naked. Suddenly I was afraid.
Lucia laughed. It sounded like a man’s chuckle. From the living room I could hear the sobs of Mrs. Kraus.
I propped myself against the wall. The air felt electric. I took a deep breath and reminded myself that this was just a little girl and that this could all be rationalized.
“Who are you?” I demanded a second time with more confidence.
“You have no dominion over me, son of Adam!” Lucia bellowed. The candle danced wildly and threatened to extinguish itself.
“First of all, my father’s name was Luke. Second, am I speaking to Lucia?”
“Haha! Looks like we have a comedian here! We could use your company in hell! But first, we need to clean up your act!” Lucia’s face was sneering in a clown grin, her eyes two gaping holes in her head.
Hell. I had a sudden, vivid flashback to my days at academia. My school required us to take courses on theology, and I remembered one priest, Father Marek. He was as wise as he was old. He taught me that no matter how much I thought I understood, the world would always have layers upon layers of complexity. I recalled one lecture where he told my class something along the lines of: “Remember that there are things unseen in this material world. Maybe one day you’ll come across something in your travels, an event that you cannot explain, one that the DSM cannot explain. Trust your instincts. You may be dealing with the devil in disguise. You have learned your demonology. Do not doubt yourself. Once you are certain that there is a demon infestation, then call the church.”
Now, I am a man of rational thought. I observe a problem, and narrow it down until it can be solved. But something seemed wrong about Lucia. Something that made the birds stop singing and the room grow colder. Something that made your stomach sour and your hair stand on edge. If there really was a demon within Lucia, I had to prove it. I did not doubt such things existed, but I also learned that they grew in power through faith. I was no holy man, and had to tread carefully here. I might have been dealing with an ancient entity here.
In order to get the church involved, I had to make certain that I was dealing with an infestation of the demonic. There are several ways to do this. The individual can divulge hidden or future knowledge, speak in foreign tongues, demonstrate inhuman powers, or the entity gives you its true name.
“What’s the matter, cat got your tongue? Or have you figured it out by now?” the voice chuckled. When I didn’t respond, it continued, “You can call me Tommy for now. You know, you’re the first person I’ve spoken to in a long time.” The voice fluctuated in tone like a wave, from irritated to amused back to irritated. There was a faint smell of rotting flesh that came and went.
“Well, Tommy. What can I do for you?” The urge to pull out my phone and record this conversation was great, but I did not want to draw any attention away from the girl.
“I want you to leave, Doc. As far away from this place as you can!”
“I’m afraid I can’t do that. I’m here to help Lucia.”
“She is beyond saving. Trust me. I’ll kill her if you stay any longer.” Lucia draw a finger over her throat in a cutting motion. I heard no response from Mrs. Kraus. Poor woman must have fainted from shock.
“No. You’re not. You’re going to tell me what you want and together we’ll come up with a solution.” I needed to trick this thing into proving that it was a demon. The Church wouldn’t waste its time otherwise.
“I already told you what I wanted you stupid fuck! Weren’t you paying attention? Or have you been sneaking some of those sweet, sweet prescriptions?”
I remained silent, unfazed by Lucia’s outburst. I was used to behavioral problems. I had to do my best to remain calm.
“I’m not leaving,” I stated. “And who are you to stop me?”
“Come on Doc. Don’t you have a baseball game to catch?” Lucia licked her lips lustfully.
That one caught me off guard for a moment. But I may had disclosed this bit of information to the mother earlier. It wasn’t enough to prove that Lucia had just displayed clairvoyance.
“That can wait.”
“With your son, David is it? Cute kid you got there.”
Nothing a quick Facebook search couldn’t find. I wasn’t impressed. I remained as stoic as ever.
“I know what you want Doc. I know that you suspect me, but want to prove that I’m something more than just a crazy person’s delusions. You want me to be your monkey and perform magic tricks for you. Then you’d take that information and bring it to your church and they’d send over one of those nasty priests with the purple stole to come evict me from my home. But I don’t want that…no.” The young girl’s lips were beginning to froth.
“Do you know what hell feels like Doc? The words of your primitive language fail to describe it. I have found refuge in Lucia’s body. She’s helping me stay out of that horrible place. I have no intention of going back. Not you, not anyone in this plane can send me back! I will not go back!” Lucia went into a frenzy of giggles. Her hands were clawed and her nails dug into the wooden table. I merely stood there, transfixed.
“Now Doc, we can do this the easy way, or the hard way. Either you leave now and we forget the whole thing happened, or I’ll make sure your boy dies a slow, agonizing death. Perhaps a drunk driver will happen to be on the road today? Or maybe he’ll cross paths with a dangerous pedophile who specializes in necrophilia? What do you think of that, Doc?”
I wanted to slap that stupid grin of the girl’s face. I think I even took a few steps towards here with an open palm. Then, I saw something that made the color drain from my face and my knees buckle. I was suddenly aware that I was in great danger and had to flee. I thanked Tommy quickly, and told him to take care. He bombarded me with vulgarities and called me a coward and a fucking quack, but I ignored most of those. I was focused on just getting out of there as soon as possible. I went into the living room, shook Mrs. Kraus awake, and pulled her outside.
With as best of a professional voice as I could muster, I suggested that she call an ambulance to bring her daughter to the hospital. She was to be admitted to a psychiatric ward. I told her that I would send help over there. The woman looked faint, and held a hand over her mouth as I explained to her that her daughter was in great danger. When I finished, her knuckles were soaked with tears, and the orange light above the western horizon was amidst passing into a light shade of lavender.
I left that quiet suburban street in a hurry. On the way home, I called the local church, where I had several connections. My word would be enough to send over a priest to check on Lucia, and they would deal with the problem.
I told them what I saw when I approached Lucia at the end of our interview:
“As I neared the young girl, I noticed something standing behind her. A sliver of light from the closest drawn window must have hit it just right, because what I saw would fuel my nightmares for the next couple of weeks. It was a figure, but it looked wicked and inhuman. Its eyes were sunken. It had gross hair all over its body. It was black all over, like it had been charred by fire. It had long nails attached to a contorted hand that rested on Lucia’s shoulder. The thing had two thick horns growing from its scalp. It saw me and revealed a row of crooked teeth. I looked down at Lucia, who now wore a face of terror. She had mouthed the word ‘Help’ to me. I immediately took my leave after that.”
I was no holy man, and Lucia’s fate had been passed from my hands. I prayed for her safety, as well as my own.

2017.06.16 21:42 Denswend Two incidents in history of USA.

In light of a recent attack on a Republican congress, which will surely be hastily forgotten, I've decided to bring up two incidents in USA history which you may or may not know about (more likely not). When I first came across The Days of Rage I was positively shocked - from the sheer scale of the terrorist attacks, to the fact that some of those terrorists got cushy jobs, *specifically cushy jobs that involve them in a position of power over another generation. So let me bring up two incidents in USA history which will shock you.
An Indian guy named Osho created a cult in which he mixed Hindi mystic teachings and "open attitude towards human sexuality", greatly influencing "Western New Age" nonsense you might find soccer moms into. Cult had relocated to Wasco Country in Oregon, where they built a facility known as Rajneeshpuram. Osho had built himself a sex cult, where he taught his followers "unusual" sexual practices, instructed couples to have sex in front him, sleeping with several of his female disciples, etc. The cult was very wealthy, with Osho owning 93 Rolls-Royces, while his followers went on a building frenzy, building a small college with 15 classrooms, four office buildings, gambling casino, shopping center, winery, crematorium with a surrounding spiritual area, 18 miles of paved roads, more than 250 small visiting huts, a 4200 foot long airport runway and airport terminal and more.
The cult intended to expand, and while they had initially friendly terms with locals, the relations soured. Wasco Country restricted growth of the commune, and the sect's leaders formulated a plan in which they will poison the public officials, which would naturally deter future decisions against their operations. They poisoned Ray Matthew and Bill Hulse, the latter who remained in hospital for four days, with doctors telling him he would have dided without treatment. He concluded that Rajneeshee poisoned him, a fact they denied vehemently. But they didn't stop there. In order to gain building permits for Rajneeshpuram, they decided to take political control of this county. One member, shedding traces of affiliation with the group opted to run for the county office. To elect her, they came up with two schemes.
First, under the guise of humanitarian initiative they would import a large number of homeless people (predominately men), promising them food, shelter, and beer. However, the 80s were a marginally saner time and their plan was countered by making sure that all new voters had to submit their qualifications when registering to vote. The homeless, a lot of them having mental issues, turned into an unruly mob and to regain control, cultists drugged their beer with Haldol.
Second, and this is the fun part, they decided to incapacitate voters in The Dalles, where most of the voters were. They planned to do this by infecting the water supply with salmonella. However, they first decided to do a "try run" where they poisoned salad bars. During this month, 751 cases of acute gastroenteritis were documented, with all of the victims being infected with Salmonella enterica Typhimurium. This remains to this date the biggest bio-terrorist attack comitted on US soil. I don't know how many died, but probably not that many - antibiotics helped make sure of that. However, keep in mind that in the last couple of decades, antibiotic resistance amped up. Imagine how easy would it to procure MRSA.
It ended rather poorly for the cult, for two reasons. One, county officials denied many cultists (not being American citizens) voting rights, whilenew regulations on registration of new voters prevented imported homeless from voting. Two, people don't take kindly to being poisoned. The mastermind behind this attack, a rather wealthy Indian-American woman named Ma Anand Sheela, was given 20 years in federal prison. She served 29 months, because of good behaviour - despite the fact that she was known for outbursts of profanity. Oh and, guess who was part of this cult? Arianna Huffington, of Huffington post.
The Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ was founded in 1955 by Jim Jones. Jim Jones was attending gatherings of Communist Party USA and he became frustrated with ostracism of open communism in USA. He came to conlusion that best way to demonstrate Marxism is through infiltration of the church. He himself was surprised when church helped him into it, despite him being known communist. And thus he founded The Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ. During this time, he adopted memes of Southern Baptists and their weird healing rituals, masking his communist intentions. He was a rather radical integrationists, who helped racially integrate churches, restaurants, hospitals, and the police department. He helped fish out restaurants who refuse to service black customers. In fact, in 1977, he recieved MLKJr. Humanitarian reward. Racial equality was a big thing for him, his latter settlment (Jonestown) being 70% black, 45% being black women.
During the 60s, he slowly started injecting more and more Marxism, declaring those to be born in socialism to not be born in sin, rejecting the Bible for oppressing women and non-whites - slamming it on the table yelling "I've got to destroy this paper idol, while also claiming he was reincarnation of Ghandi, Jesus, Buddha, and Lenin. In one sermon, he said : "There's no heaven up there! We'll have to make heaven down here!". In private phone calls, he admited that he was an atheist, and that he only used religion to mobilize people. In the 1977 he openly said that he was an atheist. He is a classical example of an entryist, albeit a rather obvious one.
Unlike most cult leaders, he was able to gain public support in San Francisco, and on the national level. Walter Mondale, 42nd Vice President (although candidate at that time) came to meet him, and Mondale publicly praised the temple. First Lady Carter also met with Jones and corresponded with him - and when he spoke at the grand opening of the Dem Party's San Franciso, he garnered a larger applause than her. Besides being written about in the newspaper, and seen with dignitaries at lunches and dinners, he was also the head of the Human Rights Commission and the SF Housing Authority. He was a popular guy.
Like the Rajneesh cult, he created a settlement named Jonestown as a means to attain socialist paradise and sanctuary from the vile media scrutiny in San Francisco (this is sarcasm btw)- and like other communist paradise, it was a failing agricultural community, with people being stored in bunkbeds. Children were generally surrendered to communal care, addressed Jones as "Dad", and at times were only allowed to see their real parents briefly at night Up to $65,000 in monthly welfare payments from U.S. government agencies to Jonestown residents were signed over to the Temple. He claimed it to be the purest communism ever, and like many of other pure communist, he did no permit members to leave. However, some people wanted to leave.
Those people formed a group called "Concerned Relatives" and called for the investigation into human rights abuses. On April 11, 1978, the Concerned Relatives distributed a packet of documents, including letters and affidavits, that they titled an "Accusation of Human Rights Violations by Rev. James Warren Jones" to the Peoples Temple, members of the press, and members of Congress. In June 1978, escaped Temple member Deborah Layton provided the group with a further affidavit detailing alleged crimes by the Temple and substandard living conditions in Jonestown. If someone's interested, she hosted a reddit AMA right here.
On November 17, 1978, Leo Ryan came with delegation to investigate claims of abuse within the compund. During this visit, a number of members expressed a desire to leave, and so they did. A member named Larry Layton, wanted strongly to join them - despite other defectors voicing their concern about his motives. And they were right because at the local airstrip at Port Kaituma, they were intercepted by self-styled Temple security guards who killed Congresman Ryan - who became the first congressman to be killed in the line of duty, three journalists, and one of the defectors.
After these murders, Soviet Union, with the Temple had been negotiating a potential exodus for months, would not take them after the airstrip murders. Jones, if you hadn't noticed, was batshit crazy, and had a vague conspiracy theory of how that men would "parachute in here on us", "shoot some of our innocent babies" and "they'll torture our children, they'll torture some of our people here, they'll torture our seniors". He also feared that hostile forces would convert captured children to fascism, one temple member states "the ones that they take captured, they're gonna just let them grow up and be dummies". Naturally, the only logical conclusion is to commit a revolutionary suicide.
And this is where it gets fun. There is a 44 minute recording of what happens next. There's also a transcript here.
One member, Christine Miller, dissents toward the beginning of the tape. She was shouted down by the rest of the group. He goes on about how he loves them all and did his best to give them a good life, that he doesn't want them to "be in hell" anymore. The crowd cheers. There is children crying and screaming throught the background. There is occasional applause and riffraff among the crowd, you can hear children and crying babies. Other people speak into the mic thanking him throughout the recording, saying they accept death and are ready to end it all. There were people with guns, ready to shoot anyone who tried to leave. He ordered his congration to drink a cheap Kool-Aid knockoff (he was a dick till the end, it seems) laced with cyanide. According to escaped Temple member Odell Rhodes, the first to take the poison were Ruletta Paul and her one-year-old infant. Clayton said that Jones approached people to encourage them to drink the poison and that, after adults saw the poison begin to take effect, "they showed a reluctance to die. The people who refused, got shot, or injected with it. They decided to give the drink to the children first, thinking it would kill the parents will to live if they saw their children die. They forced the parents at gunpoint to force children to drink it. Children start screaming, and crying, with one child shouting "what did you give us" through tears. Jones screams "Don't be this way. Stop with these hysterics. No way for socialists and communist to die. We must die with some dignity. Stop this. Put the children to rest. Mother, mother, mother don't do this." A child screams "what did they give us". He interjects "Children will not be hurt if you are quiet". Death, death, death is common to people. And the Eskimos, they take death in their stride. Let's be digni--let's be dignified. If you quit tell them they're dying--if you adults would stop some of this nonsense. Adults, adults, adults. I call on you to stop this nonsense. I call on you to quit exciting your children when all they're doing is going to a quiet rest. I call on you to stop this now if you have any respect at all. Are we black, proud, and Socialist, or what are we? Now stop this nonsense. Don't carry this on anymore. You're exciting your children.
Jones did not drink it. His death was caused by a gunshot wound to his left temple. he events at Jonestown constituted the greatest single losses of American civilian life in a deliberate act until the incidents of September 11, 2001. 909 inhabitants of Jonestown, 304 children died.
Child sacrifice to progressivism is nothing new, from Moloch cults to skoptsy in Russia. If they're willing to kill their own children, imagine what they would do to yours. Ultimately, their death and dissolution happened only because Jones was insane. The public was on his side, the politics were on his side, and the minute there is a bump, he freaks out and does something crazy as this.
Ultimately, these two cults are firsts in so many things. First congresman killed, largest bioterror attack in USA, and largest deliberate loss of civilian life until 9/11 in USA. Funnily, the tantric sex cult was miles more advanced that communist utopia, which was a failed community filled with insane and evil people. Both cults showed behaviour consistent with progressivism, in an open and unashamed fashion - importing underclass to take political control, corresponding to political elite during the so-called Red Scare. And both cults would only get a slap on the wrists, hadn't Jones completely went off the rails. In an ironic fashion, he punished himself and his followers many times more harshly than he would actually done.
I am reminded of Angela Davis, person who supplied guns to a black man who killed a judge and freed his two fellow dindus. She was declared a terrorist, and hunted down - meanwhile many crazies like Lenon wrote out in support to her. After her capture, she was found innocent - after all, she couldn't have been guilty in a plot to break out two dindus, all she did was give the guns. She became a professor (now retired) at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in its History of Consciousness Department and a former director of the university's Feminist Studies department.
The amount of things the Left did in pre-internet era, and got away with it, is simply mind-boggling.

2016.10.08 00:17 tbarnes472 Amazing list of PTSD treatments-cross post from /r/ptsd

Hey invah I have a present for you!
So I have permission from not-moses to post this here. This is the most ridiculously meticulous list of ptsd treatment ideas...WITH LINKS...I've ever seen.
https://www.reddit.com/ptsd/comments/563gah/z/d8gwqk2
>Having roll-ups of my PTSD into severe panic attacks in the '90s and early '00s, I was repeatedly taken to ERs where I was pretty uniformly (and sometimes understandably) triaged, as well as compelled to wait for a psychiatrist to show up to evaluate me for treatment. I often (though not always) spent many hours (four, five, six; typically) before I was medicated with the Haldol and Ativan used in those days to calm me down. On one occasion, I was turned away from a VA hospital ER, even though I had a dx of PTSD in my *VA medical records.*
>Over time, I learned that if I was ever really going to avoid this stuff, I would have to find other (and better) alternatives. I currently use Ogden's SP4T as the 9th of the 10 StEPs of Emotion Processing, but had good results over the years with REBT, collegiate critical thinking, several of the CBTs, EMDR, DBT, MBCT, ACT and MBSR. The 10 StEPs, DBT, MBCT and ACT are combinations of CBT with experiential, more-or-less "insight meditation" techniques. SP4T, MBSR and EMDR are more directly experiential and less cognitive (or "about thinking").
>I also take a board-certified-psychopharmacologist-prescribed, *very low dose of an antipsychotic medication to knock down the increasing rare incidents of "fight-flight-or-freeze" when it shoots up into "freak-and-fry." (I woke up twice in the ICU after suicide attempts in 1997 and 2002.)*

2015.10.25 19:18 DrManhattan16 Who wants more Indian badscience? I do!

I just don't get it. Why does it seem that India produces so many people of all fields that seems to peddle pseudo-science, Indian nationalism/ supremacy, or a mixture of just both. Well, we can answer that later. Today, I thought I'd share a video by B.M.Hegde, MD. In the video, he mixes anecdotes, bad science, and illogical statments to argue make some point on how spiritual and natural human beings are, and that we should go back to a devout lifestyle and be one with nature. I'm only going to deal with the bad science, but the video might as well be on badeverything.
Grab your popcorn kids, we're going in.
0:56 Most psychiatrists would like to see me stop speaking, because I am against taking psychotic drugs, because they damage the human body I think he means drugs that treat psychosis, or just mental illness in general. Regardless, drugs like Chlorpromazine(Thorazine) and Haloperidol(Haldol) are drugs that we've done the testing on, and know most of their side effects and how to use them. Hell, there's even the entire field of psychopharmacology that looks exactly at the effects of psychiatric drugs on moods, thinking, and behavior. So he's only technically correct when he states that drugs harm the human body, ignoring the positive effects they have on those with mental health issues.
Here is a study showing the efficacy of Chlorpromazine is around 60%. Here is a study showing that haldol is quite effective in the short-term for helping with dyskinesia, or abnormal movment
1:47 Why do we call it modern medicine? I don't know why we do that
Maybe because it's based on proven results using the scientific method to use more potent and accurate medicine?
3:04 Not a single pharmacology professor answered my question,"What is the philosophy behind it[the first-pass effect]?
The first pass effect describes what happens as a drug enter the body. The liver metabolizes the drug, greatly reducing the amount that is left for the body to use. Now, if he philosophy in the literal sense of the word, then the question makes no sense, because the body does not have an ideology that it follows to determine how to react to drugs. My guess is that he meant "Why does it happen that way."
5:50 Garlic is a fantastic medicine when eaten whole
Garlic Effects: Garlic may lower total cholesterol by 11-23 mg/dL if taken for more than 2 months.
Cochrane Institute review: Not enough evidence to suggest that garlic affects blood pressure, or that it lower the chance of cardiovascular death or people with hypertension.
Cochrane Institute review: Not enough evidence to conclude that garlic can help deal with the common cold.
5:40 If you think cholesterol is bad, garlic will lower it. If you think it is good, it will increase it.
Such a comment would suggest that garlic literally acts like a placebo when it comes to cholesterol, making it no more useful than an actual sugar pill. But the study relating to cholesterol I cited above showed that garlic had a marginal increase on HDL cholesterol, so it's hard to argue that garlic will change someone's cholesterol how they want it to.
6:18 Old ladies(85 and older) who are quite healthy are living in French nursing homes with cholesterol levels from 500 to 900 mg/dL
NO. This is just plain wrong. I can't find any evidence that such ladies even exist. But forget that, those numbers are just too high. There are multiple types of cholesterol, LDL(low density lipoprotein, the bad cholesterol), HDL(high-density lipoprotein, the good cholestrol) and triglycerides(just another form of fat in the blood). Should your total cholesterol, that is, the sum of all your cholesterol, be higher than 240 mg/dL, this is considered a very high level of cholesterol. Even if it was all HDL, it would still be too high to be considered healthy.
the NIH web page on cholestrol.
9:55 Bill Gates owns 75% of pharmaceutical companies and 100% of vaccine companies.
This isn't even bad science, its reached the level of being not even wrong. The U.S government stopped Gates (through Microsoft) from acquiring Intel back in 1999 to prevent a monopoly in the PC market. Why would they not have acted to stop him from owning this vast amount of a market? You could argue that someone like one of the Koch brothers might be able to bribe some government official from preventing some monopoly(I have no idea if they have one), but I haven't heard of any evidence of Gates lobbying Congress to let him have a monopoly. Also, I like how he took a shot at vaccines, suggesting Gates is running them for a profit. I briefly at the cost aspect of vaccines in one of my other posts on this sub. Long story short, the cost of a vaccine makes it not that profitable, compared to surgery or treatment in the later stages of a vaccine-preventable disease.
13:07 The body will accept medicine when taken in a natural form far better than if given in a pill.
I'll admit ignorance on this issue, but I'd like to quote u/TheSciNerd, because he makes the point far better than I can: "The first attempts at mass production of penicillin were done with large fermentation cultures of the fungus, and then the penicillin was purified out. This article was written more than 10 years after the first large scale productions for the Army. Skimming through the data, you'll notice that the peak penicillin production of a fungal culture was 2,000 units/mL at 8 hours. A normal dose of I.V. penicillin for an adult is anywhere from 2,000,000 to 24,000,000 units per day, depending on the sensitivity of the bacteria being treated. A normal course of antibiotics is 10-14 days. Do that math. So, now you know why, at least for penicillin, how the fungus itself is worthless to medicine, but mass producing one of its chemicals in a laboratory has made a global impact on human health."
13:28 All modern drugs can do is cause adverse side-effects.
You can't be serious. Most drugs used in hospitals and other places are used despite their side-effects. Why? BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT THEY CAN HELP CURE A SICK PERSON WHO HAS A DISEASE.
13:36 Death from drug side-effects is the number 1 killer in the world
The WHO has a list of the causes of world mortatility. Death by side-effects isn't even on the top ten list.
13:54 4 jumbo jets worth of people die every week from drug use.
Ignoring how vaguely he uses drug(illicit drugs? prescription drugs?), the CDC has the American version of the aforementioned WHO list. Again, death by drugs(overdose or side-effects) doesn't make the top causes of death
15:32 Psychiatrists have become drug-dispensing machines
This is an interesting point. I don't know of any statistics related to how many prescriptions are given out by psychiatrists to patients. But it seems to me that the real issue here, at least in America, is that most people don't want to do therapy or whatever exercise a psychiatrist may recommend. We ask for drugs because we want a simple way to deal with the problems we have. Our time is valuable, and as we become more specialized and focused on work or money, we may feel we have no time to do therapy. This is a symptom of culture, and shouldn't reflect on the efficacy of drugs given to people.
17:07 It is very difficult to fight for a truth in this world.
In general, if scientists want you to stop what you are doing, it's likely because scientific consensus isn't supporting your position/action. But even scientists are human, and it's possible that the scientific establishment can act in an irrational manner, lashing out to maintain the status quo.
21:24 The truth is always suppressed for business.
This isn't entirely false, cigarette companies did lie about the effects of smoking on humans. But in the context of this video, it's clear what he means: Big Pharma hides the truth about "natural cures" to make a profit. This is borderline conspiratorial thinking. It's the same logic people use to argue that a cure for cancer is being suppressed.
22:10 Coconut oil is useful in curing Alzheimers
Snopes did a takedown of this myth.
22:17 Coconut oil is useful for dealing with heart diseases.
I can't find any evidence of consensus that this is true. I found some articles suggesting that the consumption of coconut oil is helpful for heart disease, but I'm not entirely sure. If you guys know, let me know and I'll edit the post. I'm highly sceptical of this claim. The FDA, the WHO, the U.S Health and Human Services Department, and several other institutions advise against consuming large amounts of coconut oil because it has a lot of unsaturated fat content.
28: 55 We can check 500 parameters of the body, and with a 5% chance of a false positive, the chance of a false positive is 2,500%
badmathematics. Did he just multiply 5 by 500? I don't exactly know what a correct calculation would mean, but I think I'm right in assuring you that at the very least, any calculation would require you to use .05, not 5 in your calculation.
29:30 This lady doctor resigned at the age of 52 because her student gave her a humorous answer to the question,"Who is a patient?"
I highly doubt this anecdote is true, and even if it is, I doubt she resigned because of it.
29:50 She took the MCAT again and came out 4 years later and said,"Everything we teach is wrong."
EVERYTHING? So you're telling me that we've built a vast amount of false scientific knowledge, but no scientist has ever challenged it and took it down. Oh, I forgot, there is a conspiracy involving all pharmaceutical companies, nearly all governments, all medical schools and institutes, and all medical researchers to suppress "the truth".
31:25 Wheat is bad for you, because it has gltuen, and gluten actually perpetuates diabetes.
This idea that gluten and wheat are bad for you pervades our culture. There seems to be the notion that gluten is bad for you, and that you should eat less carbohydrates. The Whole Grains Council website explains that:
eliminating wheat will not cure diabetes or abnormal glucose tolerance. In fact, evidence continually shows that a high intake of whole grains (including whole wheat) reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes as much as 21-30%. Overeating any type of food can cause weight gain and blood glucose abnormalities, whether or not wheat is a part of your diet. The best outcomes come from following nutrition recommendations from physicians and dietitians.
Researchers conducting a 2013 meta-analysis of 16 studies exploring the association between whole grain intake and type 2 diabetes concluded that “a high whole grain intake, but not refined grains, is associated with reduced type 2 diabetes risk.”
For the next 10 minutes, he started talking about things that aren't bad science, so I won't cover them in this post, but the things he says make me want to face palm. Have you ever heard someone talk about how the living cell's functions and actions are proof that god runs everything that didn't annoy you?
43:30 When you have a good mind and want to do good, cancer cannot harm you. But if you hate people and eat a lot, you get cancer.
mfw
45:27 When Morarji Desai drank his own urine, we used to laugh at him.
That's because urine therapy has no known benefit in curing disease. In fact, consumption of urine can possibly introduce multiple strains of antibiotic resistant bacterial strains.
49:51 An astrophysicist by the name of Robert Lanza has found evidence of the soul.
First of all, Lanza is a medical doctor, not an astrophysicist. Second, I looked around and found that he wrote an article in Psychology Today. This article could probably warrant a bad science post in and of itself. Lanza claims that because we find lots of things that challenge our views in quantum mechanics, the soul exists. FYI, this is the same dude that created the terms "biocentricism", which claims that biology is the driving science of the universe. Without starting a war between physics, chemistry, and biology and their related fields, I think it's safe to say that physics would be the driving science of the universe, from the standpoint that physics can explain what happens as sub-atomic and atomic atoms interact, chemistry can describe what happens as those atoms combine, and biology can explain what happens as different molecules come together to get stuff done.
50:25 Lanza created the notion of multiple universes., or a multiverse.
I highly doubt that. I can't find a timeline as to when the notion of the multiverse as meaning multiple universes(the term was actually coined by philosopher Williams James, who used it as an alternative to universe to suggest an absence of order), but I doubt Lanza coined the phrase to mean what it does today.
50:40 Nobody has described the electron as well as the Upanishads did.
The Upanishads are a series of Indian philosophical texts. I highly doubt that some ancient texts could describe what the electron is, when the Greeks, who created the notion of the atom, believed that the atom was the smallest unit in the universe. I believe the term atomos, form which atom is derived, means indivisible.
That's it. I'm done. Thank God.
What really struck me about this video is how necessary a place like badscience really is. This dude could fire of a false claim every 5 seconds if he wanted to, it wouldn't even be that difficult. But it took me hours to go through and look for evidence and context. It really puts things into perspective when we can make idiotic claims one right after the other, but any good claims require painstaking research and time to be correct.
As always, if you find an error, or you know more, let me know and I'll add it to my post.

2013.10.07 03:13 idaxivecro how do you cope? I'm having trouble seeking treatment

Hello everyone. I hope not to offend anyone (eg, veterans, rape victims) who may consider that I've been through... almost nothing compared to them. That's true. Another spoiler, I'm not a native english speaker, I live outside anglophone countries and I left the studies after middle school, so take this into consideration (any correction would be however appreciated). So, I always have been kinda depressed. I didn't experience any rewarding activities, I only had obligations, things to do other than school, imposed by parents and society. During those years my mother had been through several mental health problems she's not really willing to talk about, but imagine severe mood disorders, a major depression, severe anxiety. She had frequent nervous breakdowns, and when I tried to help her (I was about 5) she would beat me hard, sometimes implying I was the cause of her problems. So I was growing more and more depressed... and socially isolated. My only reward was doing good (above average) at school. Well, this until age 13-14/9th grade, when I entered a major depression and stopped regular school frequency. My performance was obviously affected, and this in turn had an amplifying effect over my depression. I lost my only friends. I could only cry, many times a day, spontaneously. Isn't that good as a coping mechanism? lol. Here comes my father. I have diagnosed him (he has never seen a "mental health specialist") with narcissistic personality disorder (6 points over 9, 5 minimum). He doesn't really understand me or psychological complications. He comes from a troubled background, he was son of an important foreign government (well, dictatorship) official, and members of his family were high ranking officials of the country's secret police. He likes to call it "military counterintelligence" but amnesty international, for example, had many unpleasant things to say about their "interrogation" methods. Anyway, they feared he could be kidnapped in exchange for "favors", eg, the release of political prisoners, so since a young age he was "protected", spied on and followed everywhere by the secret police. I think this might have had a certain impact on his person and on the way he relates to the world, because when I was 14 and depressed, he didn't pick up the depression, and instead put me on some sort of constant and repeated third grade interrogations, maybe using means picked up in his staying in that dictatorship, to "find out what my problem was". I was constantly being scrutinized, provoked in the hope that I might reveal leads on my face and behavior. He reached the point of not allowing me to cry alone, my only coping mechanism. I couldn't even cry. When he learned that i "MIGHT" be depressed and suicidal, he provoked and insulted me more, because he thought that when people reach "the end of the barrel" they resurrect stronger. He thought that my mother had always been too morbid with me (LOL) and that he had the moral obligation of introducing toughness in my life to counter that. This had been going on for moths, almost a year, and gave me ptsd. Some people I talked to equated this psychological abuse with psy torture some prisoners of war go trough. I lost my school year, and I tried to start again, still depressed, but with the help of some friends. I could study for a day and not for 2 weeks, but I passed the year. Things however did get worse.
Apparently my father is an "asset" of, relatively to my country, a foreign intelligence service. Right. Here things start to get messy. I can assure you I'm not paranoid. He told me in the presence of consulate employees of a foreign country, who acknowledged it, and many times later. The fact is, the world is a bad place, and governments may abuse kids. Everyone knows about child soldiers right? Well, some countries also have teen informants, spies, how you'd like to name them. Almost none of them obviously acknowledge it, but you can easily verify that the stasi had always more than 10 thousand underage informants (really, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stasi#Personnel), and that in soviet russia it was common practice to have at least an informer in any high school class. Obviously you'd say, the ussr doesn't exist anymore. I never said I was talking about the russians in my particular case, but they weren't (and aren't) the only ones doing those nasty things. So I find myself being recruited by this FIS. Everything fine until I find out that my father is also in, and he wants me to follow his secondary career path. He wants me to become what he never could. He starts pushing hard for that objective. I no longer want to be into these things, especially if that monster is involved, but you know, you can't just quit. I start playing dumb. In the process I discover that some friends, even the one that I had a crush on, were reporting on me back to the FIS, and they were in turn reporting to my beloved father. How lovely. They try me, and try me again, ignoring that I wasn't being cooperative, I was in part only to be able to talk with my crush. Ignoring that I had severe psychological problems. Ignoring what my father did to me, until I break and leave, failing every test. This is the moment when my father "takes the situation in his hands", he too unaware of what he had caused me, and starts testing me, pressing me to the limit. Wonderful, now I have an abusive father who has strange aspirations for me, and I can't trust a word of his saying, because anything could be a test for me, he had to take the situation in his hands remember?
After 3 months of this, clearly suffering from extreme stress and paranoia, I get hospitalized. I was 15 at the time. The psychiatrist is young and inexperienced, let's just say she didn't catch on the whole "depressed-suicidal" thing and started heavy dosing me with Haldol, no antidepressants, no anxiolytics. I don't think that talking about my father and my situation could be a good idea, so I'm refusing to talk. She increases the dose of haldol, I'm obviously paranoid if I don't want to talk with her. I start saying something about my father. Obviously, she increases the shock dose of the antipsychotic. But observing that I'm not changing my mind about the "fantasies on my father", she increases again the dosage. We are now at about 7-8mg per day, above the recommended 3-5 mg a day for "sever diseases" in ADULTS (remember I was 15). Eventually she asks my father about his relationship with the FIS, he denies, but in that moment he starts pressing for a dehospitalization. So I'm promptly released, and I'm destroyed. I ignore everything and everyone, I leave school for two years, suffering from ptsd and being "useless" I lose all of my "friends". You know how people with ptsd behave. Now I'm 17, trying to recover both school years, my life and my mental health, I'm self medicating with anxiolytics and I feel way better. I have flashbacks when I think about my father, what he did to me and what I've been trough. I can't sleep at night. When I experience these flashbacks I re experience the same thoughts and sentiments of the period preceding my hospitalization. Which include extreme stress and anger towards my father. I'm learning how to avoid thinking about these things to avoid the ptsd, and I'm here for suggestions. I'm having trouble getting treatment. One psychiatrist I went to diagnosed me with ptsd, but said that there is no known cure. Oh well, there's costly and lengthy therapy. No wait. He didn't say this the first time. He first told me that the cure for ptsd is Haloperidol. Useless to say, he'll never see a cent again from me or my parents. Oh, another funny thing. Since after the hospitalization, I couldn't experience a normal sexual life. I have no libido, porn doesn't turn me on, I don't enjoy jerking it off, in fact I can't experience the climax anymore, and my testosterone is at 2, in a scale from 1.8 to 8. I think that the heavy dosage with haldol may have had an effect in it, being it a dopamine receptor antagonist. I also have to cope with this, 2 years have passed and I don't know if I will ever be able to experience a normal sexual life (without drugging myself with L-Dopa or similar things at least, lol). EDIT: I also took an SSRI (zoloft) for some weeks. Now I'm learning that there's something called https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-SSRI_sexual_dysfunction
Sometimes when I experience ptsd I think again about killing myself to avoid the condition. I don't know what to do. Help. And sorry for the wall of text
