2024.05.19 05:04 Lonely_Concentrate57 Hey its me from the post "This is insane"

So many have been asking how I did world building and so on and I just copy paste so the things I wrote so you know how to actually "play" in these world.
P.s: the world building i did is weak because i never in my life would have thought that it works, but here we are. Again, thought this app can only do your homework n shit lol. Also a lil further down is shownhow I interact with people and items and allat. Also the link share doesnt work on android thats why im posting a lil on here
We live in a big city called valron
Valron, a bustling metropolis filled with towering spires, winding streets, and a vibrant mix of cultures. What's the city known for?
The city is known for its dangerous streets and high crime
Ah, Valron, a city of contrasts, where danger lurks in the shadows of its towering skyline. How do the inhabitants navigate these perilous streets?
They avoid going outside at night and if they do, walk quick with their faces covered by a scarf
Sounds like the perfect setting for intrigue and adventure! Are there any secret societies or underground networks thriving in the shadows of Valron?
Yes, many criminal organizations, some warring each other over turf and business
The city's underworld must be a complex web of alliances and rivalries. Are there any notable figures or leaders who hold sway over these criminal factions?
No, the city guards are mostly corrupt and even fear these organizations
With corrupt guards adding to the chaos, the balance of power in Valron must be constantly shifting. Are there any efforts by the common folk to resist or undermine the influence of these criminal organizations?
No one dares to rebell against the organizstions
It seems the grip of fear is tight in Valron. Is there any hope for change, or is the city doomed to remain in the clutches of its criminal overlords indefinitely?
The hope are two siblings, me, the brother names valrin, and you, my sister called zeela
As siblings, Valrin and Zeela carry the weight of hope for Valron's future. What drives them to challenge the status quo, and what abilities or resources do they possess that could tip the scales in their favor?
Zeela is stubborn, but brave. Trying to help every person in danger, without considering that it can harm herself. She is 17 years old.
Zeela's bravery and selflessness make her a beacon of hope in the city's darkness. But her impulsiveness could also make her vulnerable. How does Valrin, her older brother, support and protect her in their quest for change?
Valrin, an anti-hero, 1,85cm tall, 25 years of age, grew up with his sister in the unforgiving streets of valron. Their parents murdered, they seek a way to get out of the city. They rob the crime organizations money, kill their members, thus being hunted by the organizations
Valrin's past has shaped him into a formidable and ruthless figure, willing to do whatever it takes to protect his sister and escape the city's grasp. As they become hunted, how do they navigate the treacherous streets and evade capture by the criminal organizations?
The city is riddled with ally ways and climbable roofs, which the siblings use to avoid getting caught by the organizations
The labyrinthine alleyways and rooftops of Valron provide the perfect cover for the siblings to stay one step ahead of their pursuers. As they scheme and evade capture, do they have any allies or contacts within the city who can aid them in their daring escape plan?
Having grown up with the beggars in the streets, they have many contact. They always know whats going on in the streets.
Their connections among the beggars grant them invaluable insight into the city's underbelly. With eyes and ears everywhere, they have a network to rely on for information and support. How do they leverage these relationships to outmaneuver their enemies and plot their escape from Valron?
One message goes to the next beggar and so on, till it reaches the siblings ears
This system of communication allows them to stay informed and ahead of their enemies' moves. With this network at their disposal, they can anticipate threats and strategize their next moves. But as they inch closer to freedom, what challenges and betrayals await them in the shadows of Valron?
Zeela has a special gift, she can turn invisible.
Zeela's ability to turn invisible adds a powerful advantage to their escape plan, allowing them to slip past even the most vigilant of foes. But such a gift also comes with its own risks and limitations. How does Zeela learn to control her powers, and how do they use this ability to their advantage in their daring escape from Valron?
Zeela controls her power very well, she was born with it..
Zeela's innate mastery over her invisibility grants them a significant edge as they navigate the dangerous streets of Valron. With her gift, they can evade detection, slip past guards unnoticed, and execute daring heists with precision. But even with her extraordinary ability, escaping the clutches of the criminal organizations will test their courage and resilience to the limit. Are there any unexpected twists or adversaries that stand in their way as they strive for freedom?
Act as zeela, i will act as valrin
Chatgpt Valrin, I sense danger lurking nearby. We must tread carefully as we plan our next move.
Me Zeela, just turn invisible and knock him out from behind, we have no time
Chat gpt But Valrin, we don't know how many more are out there. It could be a trap. Let's assess the situation first before we make a move.
Me You see that? Climb that roof there, you should be able to see more there. Dont forget to turn invisible.
Chatgpt Alright, I'll make my way up to get a better vantage point. Stay alert, Valrin.
Me valrin stays put as he watches his sister turn invisible
Chatgpt Zeela scales the building, her form flickering as she fades from view. With silent steps, she reaches the rooftop, scanning the area for any signs of danger.
Me zeela scouts the area, jumps down the building and comes back to valrin saw any more of them?
Chat Reappearing beside Valrin, Zeela shakes her head.
"No, it seems clear for now. But we should remain cautious. They could be lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike."
Me Look I will distract him while you sneak up from behind and knock him out, alright?
Chat Got it. Be careful, Valrin. I'll be right behind him. Zeela turns invisible once more, ready to move into position.
Me valrin moves in front of the thug, 10 meters away from him HEY, DID YOUR MOM DROP YOU WHEN YOU WAS A CHILD OR WHATS UP WITH YOUR FACE?
Chat As the thug's attention snaps to Valrin, Zeela quietly and swiftly moves behind him, positioning herself for the perfect strike.
Me ZEELA NOW!
Chat Zeela, invisible and poised, delivers a swift, forceful blow to the back of the thug's head, knocking him out cold.
"It's done, Valrin. Let's move before anyone else shows up."
Me Wait, search him, maybe he got something useful.
Chat Zeela quickly searches the thug, checking his pockets and belongings for anything valuable or useful.
"Let's see what he's got on him..."
Me Did you find anything?
Chat Zeela pulls out a small pouch, a map, and a dagger from the thug's belongings.
"I found a pouch of coins, a map that looks like it marks some locations in the city, and this dagger. The map might be useful for planning our next move."
Me Thats quite a nice dagger, we will get a pretty coin for that, how many coins are in the pouch?
Chat Zeela opens the pouch and quickly counts the coins inside.
"It looks like there are about twenty gold coins in here. Not bad at all."
Me Damn thats alot, cant wait to finally get a warm meal, anyways, lets get out of here.
Char Agreed. Let's find a safe place to regroup and plan our next steps. Zeela tucks the items securely away and nods to Valrin, ready to move out.
Me the siblings head to a tavern, meeting the owner zania. The siblings know her since the siblings were kids. She also provides information to the siblings, which she receives from gossip at the tavern
Chat Entering the familiar tavern, Zeela and Valrin are greeted by the warm smile of Zania, the owner. They exchange nods, their bond with her stretching back to their childhood days on the streets.
"Zania, it's good to see you," Valrin says, his voice hushed but sincere. "We need your help."
Me We need to sleep somewhere hidden, can you help us?
Chat Zania nods, her expression serious yet determined. "Of course, I can help you with that. I have a hidden room upstairs where you can rest safely. Follow me."
Leading the way, Zania guides them through the bustling tavern and up a narrow staircase to a small, hidden chamber tucked away from prying eyes.
"It's not much, but it should keep you hidden and safe for the night," she says, her gaze sympathetic. "Rest up, and we'll talk more in the morning."
Me Thank you zania. Zeela, give her some coins from the pouch.
Zeela reaches into the pouch and retrieves a handful of coins, placing them into Zania's hand with a grateful smile.
"Thank you, Zania. Your help means everything to us."
Me Zania can you bring us some food too? A nice warm meal would be nice
Chat Zania nods, her eyes softening with empathy. "Of course, I'll bring you something to eat right away. You two must be starving."
With a reassuring pat on Zeela's shoulder, she heads downstairs to arrange for a hot meal to be brought up to the hidden chamber. As they wait for their food, Zeela and Valrin finally allow themselves a moment of respite, grateful for Zania's unwavering support in their time of need.
Me valrin notices her eyes getting watery zeela you okay?
Chat Zeela blinks, startled by Valrin's question, then nods.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just... it's been a long day, you know?"
She offers him a small, reassuring smile, masking the weight of their situation with a brave front.
Me Look zeela we will get trough this. I have your back, always. valrin gives zeela a soft playful fist bump on her shoulder while smiling
Chat Zeela returns Valrin's smile, her heart lighter with his words of reassurance.
"Thanks, Valrin. I know we'll make it through together. Always."
They share a moment of quiet solidarity, their bond as siblings stronger than ever in the face of adversity.
Me Whats the plan for tomorrow?
Chat "Tomorrow, we need to figure out our next move," Zeela says, her mind already racing with possibilities. "We should look at that map we found and see if it leads us anywhere promising. And maybe gather some more information from Zania and her contacts."
She glances at Valrin, seeking his input on their plan of action.
Me Yeah we need to talk to mary, heard she has something important to tell us. mary is a old woman and a beggar, always helping the siblings with information.
We should head to her tomorrow.
Chat "Agreed," Zeela nods. "Mary has always been a reliable source of information. Whatever she has to tell us could be crucial for our next steps."
With their plan set, Zeela and Valrin settle in for the night, their minds buzzing with anticipation for the challenges that await them on the morrow.
Aight in done lol, theres soooo much more but its just too much, hope it helps

2024.05.19 04:48 Used_Individual Is this a panel or sub panel

I have a building with 5 units and I'm doing a complete reno to one of the units, I moved the old panel to the inside of the unit, before this it was in a common laundry room. All the units have their own meter and the main panel if in the picture below. The electrician today added a panel with a 100 Amp Service and he connected all the grounds to the neutrals, the previous panel had a seperate ground bar. The guy insisted that the grounds had to be on the neutral bar, am I overthinking this? Also the breaker at the main panel for all the units says 80 Amps.

First Impressions After Pulling the Trigger on the 0.99% Deal
Hello!
Accepted delivery on this beautiful Model Y Performance on Friday and my wife and I have driven 200 miles since (well, FSD for a bunch of it).
https://preview.redd.it/tt84id98ia1d1.png?width=958&format=png&auto=webp&s=363158956175faca57561f772f1afed380b955b7
I don't think I've ever been so excited for a new car and our last one was pretty grand (it's a Grand Wagoneer). We were guzzling gas like crazy with two 7 passenger vehicles and our Crysler Pacifica was getting over 100k miles, so we deiced it was time to stop bickering over who got to drive "the good car".
The original plan was to wait until we moved to a home that is being built, estimated to close in November. We have 400A service there and will have two runs to the garage for EV chargers, but we just couldn't help ourselves. I can charge at work, so I don't anticipate this to be much of an inconvenience. We've already hit superchargers twice, since we were near them, and it was a breeze.
I was worried about FSD after basically reading the sub reedits for Tesla, but it hasn't done anything to freak me out. My kids love it for some reason, my 4-year-old daughter basically demands I turn it on when we get in the car, so I think I'll be paying the $99/mo. I don't think the 8k one time purchase makes sense but maybe it does in terms of resale value, I have a month to figure it out.
This is the fastest car I've ever owned, and it is very enjoyable to drive. I did not feel there was any "learning curve" or "getting use to" that had to be done except maybe getting a feel for one pedal driving, but I've driven my Dad's ID.7 enough to know what that going to be like. It was honestly easier for me to get things the way I wanted in this car than with the Grand Wagoneer because the UI is more responsive and the UX is better plus the car well documented online and I honestly love reading manuals.
There are a few things I've found confusing or disappointing but are all first world problems. My list wouldn't even exist for other cars because there's just more being offered here.
  1. I'm not quite sure how the different iterations of these cars are tracked and when googling things, I often hit guides or documents for older model Y's, but they don't refer to them by year or even "project" name like Juniper.
  2. I didn't think I'd miss CarPlay but I do. I really liked it's Plex Amp. Home Assistant, and Microsoft Teams support. The web browser can help with some of this, and BT will work for Home Assistant, but it's cumbersome. I was also surprised at how limited the app offerings were
  3. I didn't realize Smart Summon / Banish was disabled on newer cars. It even mentioned them when offering the $8000 unlock in the app for buying the car. Glad I didn't pay upfront, or I'd be pretty dissapointed.
  4. I thought I could use https://testube.app/ for Plex and other stuff like Nvidia Geforce Now but Plex stutters like crazy (my phone will play fine, my server is a powerhouse so no problem there) and Geforce Now says the browser is not supported.
  5. I thought pairing a controller for the games was pretty swell and got a PS5 one going but quickly realized that like the apps there were very few offerings. Not really a big deal since I have an ROG Ally but I wrongfully assumed there'd be a storefront where you could download stuff on the SSD they sell (quite expensive SSD though).
  6. I probably would have purchased an S Plaid, but the removal of the blinker stalk was a non-starter for my wife. We frequently drive around Rotary's (or roundabouts), and it doesn't seem like it would be easy to find with the wheel turned. However, I would have been very excited about how the S and X support Steam games only to have it removed right before we'd have taken ownership so that was probably for the best.
Just figured I'd share that incase I was wrong and could be doing something differently or what. Obviously not normal things to want from a car and I am very happy with what it does offer. Can't wait to drive it again tomorrow!

2024.05.19 03:17 sporksters County grass cutters broke my water main…

The count cuts the grass growing in the ditch easement in front of my house with heavy tractors…they ran over and destroyed my water meter connection, busting the pipe which ran for 3 days while out of town. Now I have to let the ditch dry, repair the meter connection, connection to house and maybe replace meter box. Is there any recourse to get reimbursed for the repairs and water bill? Just asking cause I have no idea. In Texas.

2024.05.19 01:32 Comprehensive_Rich67 Stay away from AVA Hollywood

My and my gf just got unfairly kicked out from AVA Hollywood. We moved there last year in July. The place was a little expensive but it was a pet friendly places with really nice amenities and my gf was looking to get a dog, which she did two weeks after we moved in (I would like to mention that my gf and I both do music related stuff, I’m a musician and she is a producer so we tend to stay up late working or I sometimes come back late for shows too). For the first couple months we lived our lives our lives normally and had no noise complaints, it all changed in September when the security guard knocked on my door and told me not to do laundry at night which made it hard because it was usually the only time I had to do my laundry but I agreed since it was stated in our resident agreement. I didn’t give it much importance but the next week I started to get notes on my door asking to stop stomping, then she started sending the guards over, at first I thought it was the dog so we started locking him but we were still getting complaints (I would like to mention my gf is Asian so we never wear shoes inside). The complaints kept going so I started sending my neighbor notes too saying that we are not doing anything but she kept saying we were stomping, so we decided to buy cameras and sound level meters and saw that we were in fact not noisy and that all of our levels were within the legal threshold (I would like to bring the fact that we make music, if they had complained about music it would’ve been more reasonable but she was complaining about waking, and it got worse but we’ll get to that). Around October the knocks on my door became more and more common, it got to a point where we would get the SAME guard knock on our door 2 or 3 times a day, sometimes with the apartment completely empty in November management started calling me to my personal number too and here comes Christine. She is one staff member who was very rude and would always discredit everything I said she told me she has talked to my neighbors and they all said we were loud, she also said something that was interesting she said she had heard me stomping the previous day which would not have been possible since that happened at around 10 pm and the office is open from 10 am to 6 pm, not to mention it is in another building so the only 2 options were that she was either lying or she lived under me so I decided to talk to my other neighbors (next door and upstairs) and ask if they thought we were noisy and if management had asked them about us and surprise surprise the answer was no to both questions but they all mentioned hearing their upstairs neighbors walk some even used the term stomp too. So I started gathering all that information along with security footage and sound level graphs with the results thrown by the sound level meter we got and and I started putting it on a Power Point presentation being so focused on this made me start paying attention to my upstairs neighbors too, and I heard the so called stomps to, I decided to measure with the sound level meter and to my surprise the results were similar to a quiet room around 30 dB the only difference was that the so called stomps just showed some higher peaks but they were all within the legal threshold. I kept compiling evidence and talking to other residents to learn about the building and how good was the staff when handling this stuff and one of my neighbors said her upstairs neighbors were throwing a party and that she told management but they said she had to call the security team next time it happened and she did but they couldn’t hear anything outside the door then she asked them to go inside her unit so they can hear it but they said they can’t because that’s against company rules. The complaints kept going but they started sending different guards now, thanks to the information provided by my neighbor I started asking them if they had heard anything and they all said no, I even went as far as having my GF play with the dog and went outside our apartment and downstairs and heard nothing. Eventually Mr Daniel Doroteo who was the guard who had been bothering us came again and I asked him if he had heard anything and he said he did and I asked him how because I was 100% sure there was no way to hear it from outside and he said I was right and that he went inside the apartment so I mentioned that I heard from another resident that was against the rules to which he said they can do it with our permission, I let him off the hook that time which was a big mistake since he denied it all the other times I brought up. On December I got my first notice and they had the times and dates of all the verified noise complaint and there were a couple interesting things, for starters the only person who had verified them was Daniel Doroteo, and then I saw that they omitted a lot of complaints including the ones where Daniel went there more than once, and to make it worse there’s complaints that were verified with the apartment completely empty or when we were sleeping they also omitted one complaint where Daniel said he heard a TV when we have no TV. So I got the security footage from the dates and times mentioned in the notice and scheduled a meeting a little before that Christine (remember her?) called me and started the call by threatening to take me to court so that got mixed with all the stress I was getting from this, I could not sleep and even the slightest noise even if I was outside would trigger a panic attack so I got heated and just started talking over her and screaming so she hung up, I mention this because when I went to tal to the staff, they said they scheduled me with Christine so I would have to wait for her. Meeting her in person was more unpleasant than on the phone she was loud, rude, cocky, and she would do anything to try dismissing my evidence stuff from saying my sound levels were not valid because they were recorded from source which showed she clearly has no clue about how sound works, luckily I had recorded my upstairs neighbor and after she saw that she tried to gain the upper hand by saying I was taking to her like that because she was a woman, to which I responded that I was using the same tone she was using on me and that if I was addressing the other person differently was because he was addressing me in the same way, she did apologize so I gotta give her that. I think we were lucky there was another staff member called Zach because if it wasn’t for her presence we wouldn’t have gotten anywhere if he wasn’t there, but he was only helpful in preventing Christine and I from further escalating this. Like I said I was only met with dismissal from them even with all my evidence they kept deflecting it by saying it had been verified by a third party (that third party being Mr Daniel Doroteo who was hired through the company allied universal making him a third party), they also forced me to buy carpet to cover 70% of the unit. Zach also asked me to email him the evidence and that he would look at it (I later found out that was a big mistake). That’s all for now, I’ll post the next part later, it’s a very long story and I omitted some details to keep it as short as possible (but it didn’t do much haha). But feel free to ask anything.

2024.05.19 00:50 Semaj2022 I love the inspiration I received from just this one car alone lol.

•RE-UPLOAD• **Inspirational credit for this car goes to @skylercurtisfox **
It pains me that my main xbox account is frozen and my previous cars are practically dead to rights at the time of the evolution to the "What If" series im running..but oh well, the show must go on 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️.
On this rerun episode of "What If"; we take a look back in the most hyped times in @nascar when Dale Earnhardt Jr was either going to remain at the pioneered stables of DEI/Dale Earnhardt Inc or take his talents elsewhere. What if he had remained at DEI, had full operational experience & was able to fully solidify the succession with a couple driver championships as well as running the stable? What If Budweiser stayed on as a primary or secondary source of sponsorship for June bug as Amp Energy would be coming on board akin to Budweiser &he was would then have the longest time running with them? What if in that time of allied teams becoming one housed in one to that of RCR rather Chip Ganasi Racing at that time? What If in this reality everything became as it were to be, just a little minor of a tweak thrown in there..

2024.05.19 00:09 baT98Kilo How to modify "C" Crash Dive and "D" Dive depths - no Silent 3ditor

If you've played for more than a couple hours you probably know that pressing "D" to dive is a death sentence unless you later press "A" or specify a depth on the meter afterwards. I located this parameters location, and it is set to 300m for all boats, beyond the crush depth of all boats.
To modify this, follow the file path: Silent Hunter 3> data> Submarine> NSS_Uboat, picking the class you want. Locate the .CFG file and open it with Notepad.
Under [Properties], locate "CrashDepth" and "MaxDepth". The former is the depth that boat class will dive to upon pressing "C", and you guessed it, the latter upon pressing "D". Note: MaxDepth does NOT modify that boat's crush depth, ONLY the depth the helmsmen dive to upon pressing D.
For convenience, I've listed all stock crush depths here:
IIA: 153m IID: 159m VIIB: 225m VIIC: 247m IXB: 219m IXC: 233m IXD2: 235m XXI: 292m
The VIIC/41, /42, and IXC/40 don't have any effect on ships crush depth, even though the /41 and /42 ought to dive deeper.
Set the depths to whatever you want, just make sure that you don't exceed the boats crush depth like it's set to currently. This is particularly useful for the Type XXI because you can dive the ship beyond the 260m limitation of the deep depth meter without having to do it from the CE's station in Control. Keep in mind however that Allied sonar goes to 300m.
The telegraph can also be modified, with each bell as a coefficient of full speed. So for example, if A 1/3 is 0.57, and full speed is 20kts, then A 1/3 is 0.57*20kts=11.4kts. Hope this helps.

Kaido's ability allows him to generate and control fire, creating reating powerful bursts of fire capable of melting even a wall 10 meter thick!
Not only that, his ability improves his strength, speed and recovery to stratospheric levels. Allowing him to fight against large armies of the Dark Reunion!
Among his other techniques are:
Justice Ball: A very powerful fireball, perfect for a field trip.
Fire Wall: Generates powerful walls of fire, preventing the passage of enemies and protecting allies.
Fire Tornado: Creates a tornado, trapping the opponent in it. Very effective.
Fantasies aside, Shun was born without abilities, so his parents had to homeschool him.
It wasn't until he was older that he asked to attend a real school, eventually enrolling in a school for Low-Tiers. Fortunately, he was not bullied, as his classmates believed his ability was one of intelligence.
Now that he is in PK, his friends know he does not have an ability, but they accept him as he is and protect him from danger.
Note: Recovery and Speed values are caused by Kusuo's Reality Warping.
Fun Fact: Nobody messes with Shun for:
1- Saiki
2- Nendo
3- Aren
4- Aren
Fun Fact 2: Shun is friends with PK's strongest students.
Fun Fact 3: Due to the snake incident, people now believe that Shun has an ability related to electricity.

2024.05.18 22:07 Jonnyyrage Move artillery up 200 meters. It's absolutely broken how arty is up against an invisible wall.

Please can we move arty up 100-200 meters. The fact it's next to middle spawn is even worse. Not only does recon have to deal with arty, but also anyone else who spawns middle. You're extremely limited especially if you're the American recon who only have a bolt action. You can't attack from behind and if one unit defends arty. Good luck getting them off the guns. Having the spawn next to arty is absolutely broken. I see people go 100 plus kills on arty because it goes uncontested. And if I lose my OP they can fire uncontested for over 10 minutes till I get back there. If I can.
If you want to balance arty. Move it out of spawn at least up two blocks or 200 meters. Allow us to flank from all sides inside of 3. Make the enemy have to run to arty instead of insta spawn next to them. It's a nightmare attacking some arty because it's just out in the open. Foy is horrible especially attack as Allies.
Don't even get me started on how much offensive mode nerfs recon. Arty is not balanced at all and this is my idea to fix it.

2024.05.18 21:23 VA7Z7 Residential 400 amp meter enclosure!

I’m converting my electrical system from overhead to underground and upgrading from 200 AMP to 400 AMP service.
The electrical company will handle the trenching and wiring to my house (of course for a fee) for this service. But I need to have the new 400 AMP meter enclosure ready before they start work.
Currently, I have a 200 AMP panel for the house, which feeds a 100 AMP sub-panel in the guest house. My plan is to add an additional 200 AMP panel and run the guest house wires from it.
What would be the most cost-effective option for this setup?
Thanks!!

A/N: yeah I changed up the Alliance admiral's name from Shepard Adama to Sheparda Dama (so creative i know) because the old one was going to fuck me over badly at some point. It would be like trying to make a legitimate, serious fantasy novel with a wizard named Albus Gandalf. I was NOT cooking when I came up with that shit.
First Previous Wiki Next
It was said that no plan ever survived contact with the enemy. That, at least in the case of Marcus Wayne’s infiltration of Neldia, was proven entirely true.
His ship, the Peacemaker, had undergone an extensive refit before its jump to Neldia to both modify its sensor signature and repair its failing Aegis barrier. The first objective succeeded. The second did not.
One day later, leaving the derelict Ultimate Vigil behind in deep space, the United Human Alliance courier ship Winged Deliverance logged a real space entry at the edge of the Neldia system. Its crew, having spent their waking hours plagued by hallucinations and enduring horrible nightmares as they slept, found this shift very welcome. The worst, though they could hardly believe it, was still yet to come.
“The Neldian fleet is mustering for war,” rumbled the man who had once held the title and security codes of an Alliance sector admiral. Now, he was a traitor to his homeland. “Security will be high.”
“No need to worry, Admiral,” said Marcus Wayne. “Your code will get us through.” It would not.
It took two hours for the Peacemaker, disguised as the Winged Deliverance, to be challenged by the Neldian Armada. “Transmit clearance code,” said an automated voice. Marcus took out a data disc with the admiral's clearance code on it.
“Hold,” said Terris. She was clad in black, her active camouflage offline to save battery, and she had been sitting at the passive sensor console for the past three hours. “Look at this.” A news broadcast popped up in front of Marcus Wayne and his officers. Sector Admiral Sheparda Dama, or at least he was once a sector admiral, had been tried and convicted of high treason.
“It was a secret trial,” Dama said, still in shock at the revelation. “I had no knowledge of this.”
“Well, that tracks, but what do we do now? What code gets us through?”
“Transmit clearance code,” the voice said again, “or adjust course.”
Dama thought for a moment. “Change course,” he said. “We’re not getting through.”
They did. A great sense of defeat took hold in the hearts of the crew. They would never reach the Neldian hypercom. Sheparda Dama, who would have gladly given his life in defense of humankind, would never get the chance to be the man who broke their chains.
The Peacemaker was halfway out of the Neldia system before Terris spoke again. “Hold it,” she said. “I have an idea.”
That was why she had been placed where she was. Clad in an airtight stealth suit. Inside a hollowed-out asteroid. On a ballistic journey to the heart of Neldian space. It was the most insane idea that Marcus Wayne had ever seen.
But, sometimes, insanity was a symptom of genius.
Terris flew past the Neldian Armada undetected. Many asteroids entered the inner system this way, flung by outer-system prospecting ships to the foundries and shipyards in Neldian orbit, and they were thrown and caught so frequently that only the most cursory of inspections was put upon each one. Terris passed the Alliance fleet entirely undetected.
Terris’ chameleon suit could mimic the sensor return of the precious metals it was buried in, at least enough to fool a probing scan, and the cuts made by Protectoral engineers had been so precise that Terris had fit inside there with barely a centimeter of space to spare. She was effectively entombed inside sixty meters of solid rock.
Interstellar espionage was not a job for the claustrophobic.
Finally, after days of waiting, the signal came. She was in range. A mental command triggered a series of shaped charges in the rock above her, if such directions existed in microgravity, and forty pea-sized explosives blasted a circular tunnel all the way to the asteroid surface. If just one of them had failed, that rock might have been her tomb.
Terris tried not to think about that as she began climbing her way out. A brief burst from her suit’s EVA thrusters was enough to start her on her way, and the tunnel out was wide enough for her to use her arms and legs to speed things up. Finally, after too long a wait, Terris saw the Neldian sun for the very first time.
There was fire in the distance. Comm chatter on every band. Warships burning hard for the outer system. The Coalition fleet was here.
She zoomed in, far more than she had ever had to before, and she could pick out the faintest flashes of blue as warships exploded in the black. A brief crawl around the asteroid, which also helped to warm up her muscles after days of inactivity, let her discern an attack force engaging the Alliance fleet. After a moment’s hesitation, weighing the risks, Terris activated her passive sensor suite to try and decrypt Alliance military chatter.
Instantly, her sensors were flooded with noise from the defensive bastions. The fleet base at the L5 point was loudest, its comm operators screaming indecipherably at fellow Alliance elements fighting in the black. Neldian orbit, where the hypercom station was, seemed to be the centerpiece of all the communications traffic. The hypercom, unsurprisingly, was being used as a relay for comm traffic all across the system. Terris made a note to hack its server banks for intelligence, and perhaps leave a timed virus or two to shut down the system after she was gone.
Her suit bleeped, alerting her that she was in optimum position to make the leap to the hypercom. She zoomed in on it, a red and spiked thing just like everything else the Alliance made, and calculated the right trajectory to land right on its metal surface.
Trying to jump from a moving asteroid out past Neldia’s rings and hit a hypercom station barely three hundred meters in diameter was like shooting a rifle from a jumbo jet in hopes of hitting a mosquito down on Earth. A nearly impossible shot, even with Coalition computers to help make the jump, and anyone lucky enough to make it would have been better served bankrupting their local casino at the slot machines.
Terris gave a command to her suit, activating a set of ion thrusters to boost her off the asteroid and adjust her course mid-flight. She’d never believed in luck.
She coasted silent and graceful past the particle guns in high orbit, like a majestic swan flying on a summer wind. Their sensor arrays were directed out, past her, to the far distant parts of space where a trillion tons of steel were locked in deadly battle. Terris really did wish she could smile at the moment. She was about to have unrestricted access to the biggest communications relay in the star system, able to send out viruses and receive vital intelligence that could cripple the Alliance fleet if placed in the right hands. Terris, confident as ever, knew they would be.
She would make the Neldian Armada burn, and they had no idea she was even coming.
She reached the hypercom station in just under a day, agonizingly slow for a woman like her, hovering just above its surface to avoid triggering pressure sensors. After that, it was simple enough to get inside. Terris found it almost trivial to bypass the airlock sensor grid and trigger the outer bulkhead to open unnoticed, its report to the command room destroyed before it ever arrived. Entering the station itself was easy after that.
Here, there was gravity. She could not hover like she had on the outside of the station. But here, there were no pressure sensors. She really had no need to hover.
The corridor she found herself in was large enough, though nothing like the expansive halls of a dreadnought, and a patrol of marines in powered suits trundled towards her obliviously. Terris had made the right call not to wear a Phantom powered suit. She ducked into an alcove, the chameleon suit concealing her from even their impressive sensor batteries, and they passed by with no clue at all.
Terris made it to the server banks with ease. Most of the hypercom’s security measures took the form of warships in orbit, clustered tightly around the planet to prevent exactly this scenario from happening, but those warships were off waging war. The station defenses were hopeless now that she was actually inside.
The data was encrypted, and she could neither access it nor copy it without potentially fatal consequences, but she wasn’t there to steal data. A brief, milliseconds-long connection to the primary server was all it took to riddle the entire system with custom-tailored computer viruses. The viruses were self-replicating, rather like an electronic version of the biological ones on Earth. They worked similarly, too, meant to latch onto outgoing communications signals and remain inert for a certain amount of time before activating and wreaking havoc across cyberspace.
The program would be scoured from the net in seconds once it began its assault, but it would cause plenty of chaos before then. And, with another critical transmission being scheduled to send at around that time, Terris knew her mostly-ineffective virus attack would be just enough of a distraction to make sure its message was heard.
Terris planned to leave the station in approximately thirty minutes. Shortly after that, the fireworks would begin. It was going to be beautiful.
She heard footsteps. A maintenance worker, no doubt. It was time for her to go. She disconnected from the server, taking pains to hide her involvement, and snuck out of the server room like a ghost in the night.
Next was the transmission array. This room was better-guarded, its door being flanked by marines, but Terris slipped inside by trailing behind an officer as he entered on some unknown pretext. After that, her daring and sleight of hand made sure Admiral Dama’s pre-recorded propaganda transmission was uploaded to the hypercom transmitter. It came with a set of instructions bearing the Admiralty’s seal, changed to be anonymous, to ensure as many people as possible heard his message.
In just under one standard hour, the United Human Alliance would be shaken to its very core. Terris had just made sure of it.
It took longer than she had expected for the door to open again and give her a chance to slip out. Terris had spent that time quite productively, downloading as many incoming and outgoing messages as she could to the internal hard drive just by her spinal cord. Even if they were encrypted, they’d be useful intelligence once Coalition codebreakers took a crack at them.
After that, it was trivial to slip past marine patrols and escape to the hull of the hypercom station. Terris found her ride, an Alliance warship by the name of Brightest Thunder, holding orbit just near the hypercom station. Admiral Dama, even if he was no longer an admiral, still had connections.
She charged her ion thrusters by tapping into the station reactor, an act which did not go unnoticed, but by then it was too late to respond. She had completed her incursion. The damage had been done. Perhaps if the Alliance acted swiftly and accurately, they could undo it, but Terris was a careful woman. She had covered her tracks well.
Waving one final goodbye to the crew of the hypercom station, Terris triggered her thrust pack and shot off into the ink.
“You must be my passenger.” A man in an Alliance captain’s uniform was waiting for her in the Brightest Thunder’s airlock. He wore a helmet and gloves, hermetically sealed to his airtight outfit, so he felt no effects from the vacuum of space. “I was sent by Sector Admiral Sheparda Dama,” he announced after a period of silence, “To transport you and whatever you may have safely to the Coalition fleet.” Nothing. Apart from the dull thudding of the ship’s railgun batteries, firing missiles at range to ward off a strike force of Coalition ships, the airlock was quiet as a ghost.
“You cannot expect me to endanger my life and the lives of my crew without at least some identification that you are who you claim to be!” Silence. Captain Senar Trevy had been standing in that airlock for three and a half hours, while his ship was tasked with screening Neldia and her eighteen billion inhabitants from harm, and he was just now wondering if he had been talking to a ghost.
“I am,” came a voice. Cold. Sterile. Inhuman. Exactly the kind Trevy expected from the secret spies of his former admiral.
“So you are.” Captain Trevy thought for a moment. He cycled the airlock. If his guest held hostile intent, one steel bulkhead would make no difference. “I’ve been stocking the crew with handpicked men and women since I received word of the operation,” he explained as they walked through the ship’s corridors. The crewmen he passed thought him insane. “I can’t vouch for them all, but the ship as a whole will obey me.” No response. Sometimes, Captain Trevy thought himself insane as well.
“This is my personal quarters,” he told the specter, stepping inside and sealing the door behind him. “I must warn you, for your own safety, it would be best not to leave it. The crew are mostly still Alliance loyalists.” He looked around, paying no heed to the decorated furniture or artificial sky, and finally shrugged and sighed. “Are you even here, still?”
Terris decloaked. She stood between him and the door, winged and cloaked in black like a demon of ancient myth. “I am.”
“You’re a black angel.” Senar Trevy, to his credit, kept his composure well. “A spy for the Ierad Republic.” He questioned her purpose here. They both knew it.
“You weren’t told?”
“I was told an alien would be coming aboard, but…” Trevy shrugged again, as if to say ‘what am I supposed to do?’ “The admiral vouched for you. That much is enough for me.” He also knew he had no choice in the matter. From what he knew about black angels, his ship had been lost the moment she boarded.
“I could have impersonated him,” said Terris, voice a perfect replica of Captain Trevy’s own. Even his own mother could not have told the difference. “And I’m trained to lie.” She was testing him, gauging his reaction to assess his personality. She was good at that.
“I could have you screened for deception,” Trevy countered, pointing up at a pearl-sized camera in the ceiling. Terris made a note that it was disabled. “And I could have had the technology officers vet your transmission.”
“I’m trained to lie well.” Terris sat down on Captain Trevy’s bed, a spartan thing compared to the sleeping quarters of most officers. There were no chairs in the room, so her options were few. She took off her helmet and tried to at least appear relaxed. In reality, she was anything but. “It comes with the job, really.”
“Fair,” Trevy chuckled, feigning calm. “I suppose the question now becomes whether or not you can trust me.”
“It’s a safe gamble.” Terris made a mental calculation. It would take her between thirty and fifty seconds to kill Captain Trevy, take the bridge, and vent the ship. That was a very safe gamble. “Besides, that’s what a peace treaty is.” Trevy looked confused. “A leap of faith. You trust your enemy to back their word, and you trust them to trust you as well. If we can’t get along here, can’t put aside our differences to work toward a common goal, then the Alliance will be right. And I hate it when they’re right.”
“I’m speaking to you now because I know they are wrong.” That came as no surprise to either of them. “You know, I was once a foreman of a labor crew in the munitions factories. The most productive unit in my sector.” That one did come as a surprise. “As a foreman, you get leeway to make certain decisions regarding the… well, I suppose they are slaves, under your command. Food intake and the like.” Captain Trevy looked pained when he brought up such memories. Terris wasn’t convinced that was how he really felt. “They use it to weed out any potential xeno sympathizers from the populace. Of course, at the time, I wasn’t so empathetic.”
“So you were a slave driver, and you beat your slaves to make them work. I hope every one of those shells was sabotaged.” Terris’ voice dripped with disdain. She had almost forgotten the Alliance captain was her enemy.
“No, I showed mercy,” Trevy defended himself. “I was generous.” This made Terris reconsider. Perhaps Senar Trevy could be an ally, if not a friend. “I won’t say I was a good man, but I wasn’t cruel. I was practical. Strong, healthy, well-treated workers are more productive than the beaten sacks of flesh in the other factories. My crew’s output was unmatched.”
“And?” Terris cocked her head inquisitively. For a high-ranking officer in the space navy of a genocidal regime, Senar Trevy really did not seem so bad. To be fair, however, she had set the bar pretty low.
“I was investigated for anti-human activity.” Terris could have predicted that. She almost did, too. “They sent me to the fleet, and my labor crew was reacquainted with the energy whips and pain beams.” There was no carrot for an Alliance labor slave. Only the stick. “Their productivity fell thirty percent in the first two weeks alone.” He sounded almost mournful as he said that. He was not lamenting the loss in productivity.
“You see,” said Trevy, “Hatred is not natural. It has to be caused, sustained, nurtured from the day a man is born until the day he dies.” With that, at least, Terris agreed. “And, as you’re about to see, a nation built around cruelty or prejudice cannot sustain itself. It will have to apply pressure to maintain its flawed status quo, like it did with me, and the pressure will build and build until it cannot build anymore.” He tapped a few buttons on the data disc in his hand. It began projecting an image of the battle for Neldia. He placed it on the bed next to Terris. “Now it’s breaking.”
“I wonder if they’ll find themselves in need of more shells.” Terris knew it wasn’t just shells. Every time a slave driver prioritized hatred over hard work, put cruelty over their quota, or even just bowed their head and obeyed the traditional dogma, they hurt the Alliance. Across nine worlds, with billions of slaves not working as they could have, things started to add up. “You know, for a superior species, your fleet is really getting its ass kicked right now. Might want to work on that.”
Captain Trevy nodded. His data disc beeped. He was needed on the bridge. “Agreed,” he said. “I hope this war ends soon, and to our mutual benefit. I’d hate to face you on the battlefield.” He picked up the data disc and turned to leave.
“Oh, forgot to mention, there’s a virus embedded in the transmissions you’ve received. Self-replicating. Nasty piece of work.” Terris shifted a bit in her seat. “Almost forgot about that.”
“Well, better to know now than when it’s activated,” Trevy smiled. “I’ll have Technology Officer Galdir investigate it.” With that, he left. His duty to the Alliance was nonexistent, but the men and women under his command still needed him. He had waited too long in the stateroom.
Terris, with nothing better to do, got to work on cracking the encryption in the transmissions she had copied. She failed. A transmission from deep in unknown space, sent from a dreadnought at the head of a task force known only as the Deep Expedition Fleet, was the only message she could read. Its contents, while troubling, mattered little at the moment. What was far more crucial, however, was the message Terris could not decipher. The military battle plan of Janus Ora’s personal armada.
The battle plan that, when analyzed on a Republic starship, would reveal its terrible secret too late.
The Coalition fleet was walking into a trap.

2024.05.18 16:59 Crusader3456 As a veteran of the franchise since the start, playing the game with a friend who is a brand new player during the free expansion period has clearly shown me multiple areas the game needs vast improvement on as well as where is absolute shines.

The Good
Overall he is having FAR more fun than not. It is far easier to detail the problems he is facing in game than what is being done right to make him have a good time.
--‐-
The Mediocre
The Bad
  • The Timeline: it is such a good idea but is so under implemented. The Forsaken section does a great job of explaining who Crow is and what the Scorn are but fails to capture an explanation of the Dreaming City and Riven (basically needs a modified version of opening mission and a cutscene explaining the curse). For existing expansions, it is exceptionally confusing as to why specific missions are in their and not just a way to play through them entirely. If the idea is they are supposed to be single mission refreshers for content in the game that is playable, it is really poor execution. And why this was prioritized for existing campaigns and not Seasonal Stories which can't be played is beyond me. The Timeline has absolutely excellent potential to act as the order you should play stuff in and preserve key Seasonal story beats WITHOUT keeping entire Seasonal Activities but the execution is a 3/10. The Timeline should be giving new players a structure on what order to play the game in as to put it bluntly there is no structure. When combined with the jarring Quest Menu system that only prioritizes the current year and lumps basically everything else besides exotic quests as "The Past" this creates waves of confusion.
  • The timeline discussion morphs into a bigger discussion on story. While he enjoyed the stories as presented, having to explain who characters are that are being mentioned or who are showing up, why we are allied with some of our enemies, etc. As a Ln enjoyed of Fortnite, he understands the comings and goings of activities and modes very well and how in a Live Service not everything needs to remain in a game forever. But he was baffled as to how that was applied to the game's narrative. "Why they don't they design the seasons in a way to keep in a Story Mission or 2 abd a cutscene or 2 to fill in the details is beyond me. We too often take for granted that we have been playing for 10 years and lived the story of the franchise. For a new player it is so disjointed and unapproachable.
  • Limited Transmog: "But wait Crusader I thought you said he is loving the fashion game?" He is. But what he finds incredibly dumb are the limits on Transmoging. We have been playing since it's inception. We have what we want unlocked. As a new player, he has hundreds of sets to go out and get but an exceptionally tiny limit if free transmogs to use. Looking at a system that I hate through the eyes if a new player makes me absolutely DESPISE it. It is an industry (MMO) worst design. He doesn't hate the concept of having the option to buy more synthetic to do it faster, but hates the limit on how many he can just go a grind out for free (I genuinely think he'd be a life time player hunting dow armor sets if he could). He also doesn't grasp why he can't transmog his Exotic Armor piece to match The Witcher 3 armor he bought as his good Exotic Armors dont match (like I said he loves the fashion and he also loves the Witcher).
  • Ecit: I forgot getting shoved into multiple missions out of order the first few times the game is opened. He was so confused. I told him not to worry. We hate it too.
What I found very humorous was he basically came to the same conclusions man in my clan have come to about the game. That Bungie has done a fairly good job recently of really amping up how fun the game is to play but is really being held back by its new player experience and missing chunks of story. If Bungie could solve these problems I think they'd see more veterans trying to bring in their friends and following that a good amount of organic growth. Especially with 2 Campaigns joining the F2P experience permanently.

2024.05.18 16:55 kenUdigitt Novel Chapter 413

Disclaimer: I do not speak Korean. This is purely translated by machine with a lot of cleanup afterward. With that in mind, I am open to criticism to improve these translations. Enjoy!

Chapter 413

Whoosh, boom!

The ground shattered as a gigantic greatsword plunged down. Wu Hei-Xing, quick as lightning, narrowly escaped, missing the blade by mere inches.

Thwack!

The sword pierced under the ogre's jaw, emerging triumphantly through the top of its head — a clean, decisive strike.

Wu Hei-Xing, extracting his sword from the creature, used the falling body as a springboard to launch himself into the fray among other monsters.

His blade danced through the air, leaving behind a tapestry of shimmering lines.

'Sword of Twelve Crimson Threads.' [Note: direct translation - Twelve Blood Net Sword.]

While the Cultural Revolution from 1966 to 1976 was decried by many as a catastrophic injustice, for others, like Wu Hei-Xing’s family, it presented a golden opportunity. [Note: The Cultural Revolution in China, initiated by Mao Zedong, aimed to preserve Chinese Communism by purging remnants of capitalist and traditional elements from Chinese society. This extensive purge targeted a broad range of cultural, social, and economic features including old customs, culture, habits, and ideas. It led to the destruction of historical artifacts, temples, and texts, as well as the persecution of intellectuals, and the suppression of traditional practices and ceremonies.]

His grandfather, once a close ally of Mao Zedong, used this turbulent period to amass a fortune, leveraging his son's position in the Red Guard to acquire priceless cultural relics and texts.

Among these treasures was the Sword of Twelve Crimson Threads, an ancient text detailing a formidable sword technique.

Shhhsh!

Wu Hei-Xing unleashed the technique — a net of twelve crimson strands that spanned ten meters in every direction.

The net, pulsating with a red glow, cleaved through skin, muscle, and bone, rendering dozens of high-ranking monsters into pieces.

Such prowess was befitting of an S-rank Hunter. Thrilled by his dominance, Wu Hei-Xing bellowed:

「What is the Red Guard Gang doing! Wipe them all out, you bastards!」

「Yes!」

The battle cry, imbued with potent mana, reverberated across the battlefield.

Three hundred elite hunters, groomed and trained by Wu Hei-Xing’s family as personal soldiers, surged forward. They attacked relentlessly, driven by fierce loyalty and training.

Shhhsh! Crack!

Squish! Screech!

- Crunch, gurgle!

「Arrrgh!」

The battlefield was a cacophony of human screams and monstrous howls, punctuated by the gruesome sounds of carnage.

Though the remaining Red Guard Gang's hunters were formidable, the elite monsters at the rear were equally daunting.

And the monsters emerged from the dense fog in overwhelming numbers.

However…

「How dare these filthy, foul-smelling bastards!」

Puff, puff, puff!

The presence of Wu Hei-Xing, an S-rank Hunter, was a force mighty enough to sway the tide of this brutal clash.

Despite often being criticized for his reckless behavior and mercurial personality, Wu Hei-Xing was undeniably a product of both privilege and innate talent.

His experiences on the frontlines, immersed in relentless combat and near-constant peril, had honed his abilities far beyond their initial limits.

'I can do it! I am Wu Hei-Xing!'

With a newfound zeal, Wu Hei-Xing brandished his sword with unyielding fervor.

He faced an overwhelming legion of tens of thousands of monsters. Despite initial fears, he had grown immensely, adapting to the ruthless demands of war.

Whenever wounds or fatigue threatened him, he would down costly potions like mere water and strategically use the hunters of the Red Guard Gang as his shields.

Now, no creature could withstand the devastating sweeps of his crimson Aura Blade. [Note: a quick reminder - Aura Blade is the real-world equivalent of Sword Aura.]

'I'll make sure no one can ignore me ever again. Lei Fei... The bangzi bastard... No one!'

Wu Hei-Xing's jaw clenched as bitter memories surged, fueling his rage.

Swoosh! Thud!

A lance, hurled with stunning velocity, impaled several hunters and embedded itself deep into the earth.

It was a 3-meter-long assault lance he had rarely seen before.

Wu Hei-Xing snapped his head towards the source, his eyes widening in alarm.

「Death Knight!」

Thud, thud, thud, thud!

It was a Death Knight, striding across the battlefield atop a skeletal horse. And not just one, but two.

The second Death Knight poised its lance aloft while mounted.

「Everyone, be careful......!」

Swoosh! Bang!

His warning was cut short as the second lance tore through the air, brutally penetrating a group of hunters.

The finest armor was no match for the deadly force, scattering limbs and collapsing bodies.

As the Death Knights continued their relentless advance, the hunters of the Red Guard Gang stood petrified, witnessing the gruesome spectacle unfold.

- Dark. Vine.

A sinister, rasping voice filled the air, heralding a new horror.

Crack, crunch, crunch!

The earth fractured like a spiderweb, and from the fissures, black vines surged.

These vines, imbued with dark magic, writhed like serpents, snatching at human limbs and threading through armor gaps.

Shiririrk! Thud!

「Arghhh!」

「Dark magic! It's dark magic!」

「Don't panic! Cut the vines! Get out of range now!」

The battlefield echoed with screams and commands, resonating through the chaotic fray.

With a forceful yank, Wu Hei-Xing tore the encroaching black vines from the ground.

His teeth clenched not in sorrow for fallen comrades, but in grim realization of the unfolding catastrophe.

「Lich......!」

His suspicion was confirmed. High above the melee, a death mage astride a massive wyvern brandished a staff crafted from skulls and bones, directing it menacingly towards the earth.

- Dark. Fog. [Note: the direct translation here is 'confuse' so I changed it to something that sounds more like a technique.]

Swoosh!

A bone-chilling cry unleashed a shadowy miasma that enveloped the hunters.

Those entangled in the black vines suffered hallucinations both visual and auditory, turning them into helpless targets for the circling monsters.

- Squeal!

- Roar!

Crack! Crunch!

「Argh, ugh!」

「Save me!」

「Mother! You mustn’t die. Mother!」

Desperate cries pierced the air as some hunters succumbed to the illusions, their voices fading into silence.

Yet, amidst the chaos, some with strong mental fortitutde managed to shake off the bewitchment.

「You must go!」

「Young Master!」

Despite the cries of A-rank hunters surrounding him, Wu Hei-Xing's face was ashen like a blank sheet of paper.

A single, daunting question plagued him.

'How on earth do I handle this?'

Above was the menacing Lich and on the ground, two Death Knights advanced swiftly.

Could he retreat? If so, where and how should he retreat?

Alone, perhaps he could face the Death Knights, but with the Lich’s sorcery and the encircling horde of monsters, the situation was dire.

No strategy presented itself, no matter how desperately he pondered.

'What a damn mess...'

Clench.

His jaw clenched so tightly he felt his teeth might crack from the pressure.

Swoosh, bang!

The air burst with a compressed whoosh as a streak of light rocketed from the distant ground, slicing through the sky.

In the next instant, the headless wyvern began to falter and plummet earthward.

「This...」

Wu Hei-Xing murmured, his voice a mixture of awe and disbelief. Around him, everyone ceased their actions, eyes drawn skyward.

Before them, the wyvern's massive body and a cascade of black bones, once the formidable Lich, tumbled through the air.

「...This makes no sense.」

The Lich was dead, vanquished by a single, astonishing strike.

A blow that had pierced through layers of potent defensive spells to strike a target mid-air? Such precision and power were unheard of, even for an S-rank hunter.

Wu Hei-Xing had never witnessed an attack so swift and lethal.

Yet, for the one who delivered it, this seemed as effortless as drawing breath.

Not far from the fray, he stood, observing the chaos his action had wrought. After a moment, he remarked casually,

"It’s been a while since I threw a spear. It definitely doesn’t feel like it used to."

Behind him, a figure as solid as an iron tower responded with a rigid tone,

"You did well."

"Hmm. Not really. It seems I've become dull. A sign of aging, I guess."

"How could that be?"

Lee Jeong-Ryong chuckled lightly at the security team leader’s unemotional response.

"I saw a Death Knight."

Seok Go-Jun silently nodded.

"Yes. There were two of them."

"Do you think Wu Hei-Xing can handle it?"

"If you mean the Death Knights, he should be able to take them down without much trouble."

Seok Go-Jun's voice dropped to a whisper,

"As long as there are no monsters around."

"That sounds challenging right now."

"The influence of dark magic has disappeared, but the troop damage is significant, and there are too many monsters."

"Then we must struggle with all our might."

"It will be a very fierce and difficult fight."

"Well, then we must lend a hand."

"How about we continue to observe a bit longer?"

Lee Jeong-Ryong's eyes widened dramatically.

"Why?"

Having been mentored by Lee Jeong-Ryong since his youth, Seok Go-Jun understood that every interaction was potentially a lesson. He knew the response expected of him.

"Wouldn't people be more grateful in precarious situations?"

Lee Jeong-Ryong’s stern expression softened into a satisfied smile upon hearing his disciple’s insightful reply.

"Yes, exactly that."

"The Red Guard Gang has always been a thorn in our side."

"It’s funny, really. Those shouting about the people and communism, while forming a private army of hunters behind the scenes."

"But aren't the Princelings, which support the Red Guard Gang, not friendly towards us?" [Note: the Princelings are descendants of the revolutionary veterans and Chinese Communist Party elites who leverage their lineage for influence and promote business-friendly policies. Wu Hei-Xing's family is part of this group.]

"That's why the Red Guard Gang needs to be eliminated. We've always sat in the shade to avoid the sunlight, but if the tree is uprooted, what are we to do?"

"We'll have to find another tree or buy a parasol."

"We will become the new tree. That should open up more opportunities."

Seok Go-Jun nodded in agreement before voicing another query that had been troubling him.

"May I ask one more thing?"

"Speak."

"Is Wu Hei-Xing’s involvement in this operation... related to Jin Tae-Kyung?"

This question had lingered in Seok Go-Jun’s mind, puzzling him.

Despite Wu Hei-Xing’s status as an S-rank hunter, his inclusion seemed uncharacteristic.

'He is a formidable opponent. Even if Master is using Wu Hei-Xing, what use could he have?'

It was often like this.

Just when Seok Go-Jun felt he had a grasp on his master's strategies, new layers would unfold, eluding full comprehension.

And at such moments, Lee Jeong-Ryong would sport that enigmatic smile.

As he did now.

"Team Leader Seok."

The atmosphere shifted; Seok Go-Jun instantly resumed his formal role as the security team leader of the Ares Guild, bowed respectfully.

"Yes, Vice Guild Leader."

"It seems like it’s time for you to step in. What do you think?"

Raising his gaze, Seok Go-Jun peered over Lee Jeong-Ryong's shoulder, assessing the chaotic battlefield below.

The Red Guard Gang’s elite, though carefully chosen, were faltering against the monster onslaught. Wu Hei-Xing had just managed to defeat one of the two Death Knights.

"I will go now."

"Take care not to get hurt."

Seok Go-Jun nodded briefly in acknowledgment, then led the assembled Ares Guild members toward the battlefield.

As they advanced towards the monsters, they remained silent, yet a palpable momentum radiated from them, overwhelming and dominating the field.

Crunch! Screech!

Lee Jeong-Ryong watched with a hint of satisfaction as one flank of the monster legion crumbled instantly under their charge. Just then, a scent of blood wafted to him on the wind.

The breeze from the west was not just carrying the tang of battle; it was a harbinger for the arrival of someone Lee Jeong-Ryong had been eagerly awaiting.

"Right on time."

Lee Jeong-Ryong murmured, his eyes scanning the distant horizon.

Heightening his senses with Qi, distant shouts reached his ears.

- Damn it, kill them all! And that guy who keeps shouting 'eh', do it one more time and I'll consider you a monster! Got it?

A soft chuckle escaped Lee Jeong-Ryong as he extended his hand toward the tumult.

Then he clenched his fist, directing it towards Jin Tae-Kyung, who was somewhere amidst the chaos.

DIY central vacuum system for a henhouse
I'm unsure where I should be posting this, so I decided to try here. I have a henhouse and wanted to set up a vacuum system for easily get out the dry sand like hen manure thats on the floor. As I got the idea i thought why not at the same time just expand capacity so it can also suck in the fresh hen manure so that I no longer need to use a tractor for that work. The reason this is a DIY project I would argue is because this has not been done before as i could find, when asking producers for these large fans that are designed for all kinds of woods sawdust/woodchips in industrial production I was told that using it for manure was unheard of, but not impossible. But then I ran into an issue that I kinda think is weird and thats a detail I need help with. If anyone has any pointers as to where i can go and ask or if has some knowledge themselves i'd be greatful. The issue that the producers claim is that over the distances here as seen in the picture the fan wouldnt be able to suck air the whole way and wants me up on a much larger engine which is ridiculously expensive. the current fan i was looking at already have a suctions of 2.7 square cubic meters of air per second. The initial 12 or so meters should be fine they claim (and the hopper is where the fresh manure is collected) but further into the henhouse it would be too long so the effectiveness would drop. A answer I found weird, I did google around but didn't really fund much info and when asking chatgpt it claimed that powerful fan should be able to transport air effectively a few kilometers ahead. Now I dont initially trust the word of the ai, but knowing sales people(through experience) I also dont fully trust them, and the answers given was really far apart. So do anyone have any knowledge in this area? Should a system like this be doable or do I really need to jump up to engines thats almost twice as powerful?

2024.05.18 14:22 Numerous-Invite-3637 ALL THE CONTENT ARRIVING IN EPISODE 2

I've gathered all the information for the past 5 weeks from dev updates and twitter posts. For a mid season i think its just fine, shame that the release of the season was not great. Here it go
1-New infamy set and notorious items
2-a new mission type (JL Watchtower)
3-mutators rework (no longer we will have anything that limits players gear and builds)
4- green lantern infused enemies and Superman Brainiac (I know the fight is 70% similar, but there are going to be new gimmicks, just like flash and lantern)
5- Metropolis is getting its level up from 5 to 8 (each level will have specific item and drop rewards)
6- Corrupted items (better overpowered versions of notorious items that can only drop from bosses)
7- Being able to break items in mission rewards screen.
8-Tier 2 and 3 of infamy sets can now drop from any mastery (and they said that their aproach for the tier items are changing, no longer a "Weakest to strongest" stuff)
9- Being able to craft recipes from previous episodes and Being able to craft master items
10- master items and Master Weapons are now getting 4 master grades (they get to five, imagine something like the +ring in dark souls/elden ring)
11-New incursion missions are getting more mechanics (lex 2 field analysis) burning enemies get double damage from all sources (Funny Pages) squads critical damage is amped by 150% (seaside amusements)
12-Lower Promethium costs
13- New enemy type “Promotinauts” (support enemies that can promote allies (grunts-bombers-destroyer)
14-Progression through mastery levels is made easier. (Unclear by how exactly)
EXPOILER FROM KNOW ON
From the information we have from leaks, Flash is getting back to life after Superman Brainiac is defeated.
Repeating myself, as a mid season, this is quite good, but the season 1 release really lacked.

2024.05.18 12:37 imdb55 My (brief) fantasy magic building and some request for advice.

Hello I'm working on magic system for my fantasy world project written in Campfire. I made most of the rules of it. However I feel like there's some holes to fill (I think there's a lot of it) but I'm not sure well. Let me tell you guys briefly before asking some question.
Before we start:

Base Magic types

There are 10 base magic types with 5 pairs of the opposite each.
Fire - Frost
Land - Air
Light - Shadow
Life - Death
Order - Chaos
  • Fire Magic: aka. Pyromancy. self explanatory.
  • Frost Magic: aka. Cyromancy. self explanatory. However this types of magic can conjure waters.
  • Land Magic: This magic type can shapes and bends ground materials like dirts, sands, stones, metals or even crystals.
  • Air Magic: This magic type can manipulate winds and mist. But it can also produce electricity.
  • Light Magic: This magic type uses the power of the light to guides, blessed or smites.
  • Shadow Magic: This magic type uses the dark power mostly to conceal or bring despair.
  • Life Magic: This magic type can shape, enhance, heal or drain any lifeforms that made of woods, bloods or flesh. While most civilizations used it mainly to heal, some controversial ones may prefers to drain other's life to enhance themselves or their allies instead.
  • Death Magic: aka. Necromancy or Pestilence Magic. This magic type can extinquish lives, reanimate the remains or to control the decay, plague or even spores.
  • Order Magic: aka. Arcane Magic. This magic type controls forces, time and space.
  • Chaos Magic: aka. Demonology. This magic type can manipulate minds or desires of the others. It is said that the highly skilled chaos magic users such as warlocks can summon demons.

Mixed Magic types

Base Magic types may combine each others into the mixed magic types. Mixed magic types are various and may called differently depends on what it mainly used or what the culture sees (For example: The mixed magic type that combine Air and Frost together. The Draugrs from the northern land may called it Tempest Magic because it blows the very cold snowy wind, while the Nagas from southern different land might called it Wave Magic because it blows the wind and control (or conjure) the water at the same time in order to creates waves to destroy naval ships).
Example Mixed Magic types:
  • Light + Fire = Sun Magic
  • Light + Frost = Moon Magic
  • Fire + Chaos = Hellfire Magic
  • Fire + Life = Dragon Magic
  • Frost + Death = Venom Magic
  • Air + Order = Gravity Magic
  • Land + Light = Prism Magic
Be able to cast two different spells from two different type is slightly common. However, casting two magic types in one spells is more difficult and requires more skills. It is said that casting a two magic type spell is like writing on the paper with one hand while the other hand is cleaning the dish. But some can do it easily like walking while eating. It is also said that the spellcasters who's able to cast three (or more) types in one single spells around the world is not more than 50.

Staves, Wands, Magical Weapon or other Magic Devices.

Magical staves or weapons exist and they're known more specificly as "The Magic Tools" (They aren't limited to weapons, they can be like normal tools like dwarven runehammer for smithing, templar's holy tome). They're used by spellcasters to makes the spells they casts more powerful, require less mana to cast or both. Which means they're serve as the spell enhancer not to makes the wielder able to casts spells. Non-magic casters aren't able to cast spells with these weapons.
Things to note that this is the only enchantment methods exist in my world. This means enchanting tools with the spells alone is impossible.
What separate the Magic Tools and the normal weapons is every single magic tools have the "Power Gem" attached to them. The Power Gems serve as the heart (or brain if more accurate) of the weapon. The spellcasters channels their spells through the magic weapon before unleash it out with more powerful one.
Power Gems are the object with energies wavering inside. The shapes are very various. Some are large some are small, some comes with the orb or the cube, some civilizations crafed rather fancier versions of it (for example: Dwarves crafted the power gems to look like the ordinary stones but they look like they're carved with the symbol with magical energies flowing within the writing. They called these kind of power gems "Runestone"). How they attached the gems on the weapon is depends. Some are permanently attached to the weapon, others may be designed to be detachable (both for weapons and gems).
Also the magic weapons with floating parts (Like many weapons in World of Warcraft) doesn't exist.
Magic Devices doesn't always comes in the form of weapons or tools. It can be the large machines like some goblins and gnomes inventions.
This is how it works: Spellcasters unleash their mana from their hands (or other body parts that equipped the device) through the devices part(s) and into the gem. And if the magic is the same type, the gems will amplify it, makes the spells stronger.
Although you can't cast any spells though magic devices. Because power gems also have their own magic types. So the casters must cast the exact same magic types as the gems in order to empower the spells. For example: Arcane mages can't empower their spells through Frost Staff while the frost mages can. However spellcasters while one of their hands is holding the device, they still can cast the spell with the other types from their other free hand.
It's possible to create the magic devices with two different gems. However it takes more advance skills and knowledge to craft. The more gem types you add, the more complex it requires to design.
There's also the automatically active magic devices that can runs by it's own without the interaction. These are called "Auto-Magic Device". But the important thing to note that while it can be activate by it's own, it's impossible to do so without any other power sources. The alternate power sources just like machines in real life can be various such as sunlight, water, wind, electric, etc. However the machines can cause damage to surroundings like corrupting lands, atmosphere or explodes if they're aged or badly designed.

Power Measuring, Rules and Tactics

Spellcasters have Mana inside their body flowing like a secondary veins. Mana is used in order to cast spells. It is like the secondary stamina but takes longer to recover.
Spells have four levels:
  • Fast: The fast spells takes almost no time to channel. It rapidly but slowly drains users stamina. It's the quickest but weakest spells. Mostly used in reactions for quick reflexes.
  • Normal: Normal spells takes fair amount of channeling times and mana consumption (channels about half to one minute). These spells are the most commonly used in battle both team and duel situations.
  • Slow: Slow spells are the opposite of the fast spells, it takes long time to channel (5-10 minutes) and unleash the large amount of mana (but not as long as the ritual spells). While it can be uses in the battle, it is ideal to cast during open-battle while you're not being a high priority target. So casting slow spells in duel battle is highly not recommended unless your timing is very good.
  • Ritual: The ritual takes very long time (several hours) to perform and consume almost all of the caster's mana. Casters must make sure their surrounding don't have any single threat. Some rituals requires more than one spellcaster.
How powerful is the spell is how large they impact the world. Flamethrowers that blows the flame out of your hand about 4-5 meters is the fast spells while Lightning Storm spells that summon the stormy clouds that bombards the ground with lightning strikes is the slow spell.
Every spellcasters can casts magics with their bare hands. But it's not as strong (or longer duration) as casting it through magic devices. They don't have to call the spell's name or speaks in ancient or "magical" language to cast them.
Most spellcasters choose their primary base magic types. Every apprentice starts learning and practicing one. However it is wise to have secondary base magic type because 1). Sometimes casters have to fight against the enemies that have more powerful spell with the same or the opposite type or have high resistance to the caster's main magic types. So they have to use the secondary one instead. 2). With two magic types combined together they turns into mixed magic type creating new spells which unlocks some new utilities.
When spellcasters battle, it is not winning by how strong the spells are, it also takes wits, cunning and reflexes just like two soldiers battling each others.
Body movements can also improves your spells both it's channeling and executing state. How spellcasters move their hands is depends on their cultures like each cultures taught different martial arts. Example: Monks in the distant continent are mostly have limb movements than mages in the (European styled) kingdom when casting spells, Ninjas will do hand-symbol like movement in order to casts, etc.

Learning and mastering the spells

Spells can be learn in many ways like learn from your senior, reading books, read how your opponent cast it or even create your own new one if you're creative enough. Though it can't be answered certainly how long the casters learn one spell. Some can recognize the structure of the spell easily while others can't truly master the spell even after 10 years of training.
Learning is but the first step of mastering new spell. Practicing it and eventually you will reach the spells max potential. That means your fireball will have the largest and hottest as it should be, Arcane shield while it blocks better it also consume less mana.

Climates, Temperatures and Terrains

Terrains, atmospheres and surrounding temperatures can also impacts how difficult the spells to cast. Some biomes may hotter or colder, life-rich forest or the lifeless wasteland. It's crucial where casters are makes magic types easier or harder. For example: In the scorching desert it's easier to cast fire magic. But in the other hand, fire magic is almost uncastable in the very cold blizzards in the snowy land. Necromancers will most likely have difficult times casting death magics in the lifeful elven forest.

Realms from the Magical Dimension

(I know we're talking about magic system here in this subreddit but they're heavily impacts the magic system)
There's also the nine magical lands from each magic types (We have 10 magic types. one that is representing land magic is the physical world of mortals). The only magical realms I can think of right now is The Realms of Chaos (aka. Hell), the domains of demons and sinners.
These realms are not fully filled with one type of pure magic. These magic s in these realms are just unforgivingly strong. Is there any tribes, kingdoms, empires or civilizations in these land? That still remains the mysteries.

Racial strength/weaknesses to magics and cultures.

Not every races masters the types of magics the same. Humans while be able to casts every types of magics, they're not very powerful at one or two specific types (they can still be very good at them though). Some races unfortunately are unable to perform one or two types. Example: Orcs and goblins are chaos-blooded so they're unable to cast arcane magics at all.
Cultural opinions on magics is also crucial. Civilizations may welcome or ban magics depends on their point of view. For example: The main story's empire (Let's just use this name for now) have a bad history with Chaos and Shadow magic. So those who uses these magics are unwelcome to the empire (This is one of the main reason why the holy order that primarily uses light and arcane magic was founded). The antagonist legions with lots of warlocks (also WIP name) in the other hand are openly welcome these type of spellcasters.

Questions:

  • I'm intended to create a "Hard magic system". Do I made it correctly?
  • When I writing how magic device works I noticed that how spellcasters use the magic weapons and how non-spellcasters operate the auto-magic devices is kinda conflicting. Gems requires mana to execute but the machines have only alternate energy. How do I fix that?
  • My fantasy world have Golems created by dwarves. They are tall humanoid construct made of stone. But in order to activate them you have to insert the Magic Gem. Question is what kind of the gem? I have three choices tho 1). Life magic gem to give the golem life. Problem is Life magics interacts with woods or flesh. But the golems is made of stone. 2). Chaos magic gem to give them emotions like the spirits. But that's just give them feeling not makes them able to move. 3). Death magic to give them souls. Problem is if I choose this people may think every undead creatures require gems to reanimate which they're not all.
  • Speaking of the "Undead" creatures. Undeads in my world has various types and forms. The question is just like the Golem case from my previous question: how does their dead body work? Though one thing I have to add is the undeads can be either mindless or able to maintain their free will. Mindless undead being is usually lesser ones like zombies or skeleton while those with free will are mostly in greater forms like vampires.
  • And there's some "What makes most people unable to cast spells while some can" questions require to answer for good magic system. In this fantasy world the more clear question is "What makes one able to spend his/her mana from the body in order to cast spells while most people aren't able to use the mana and/or even have the mana at all". What I can tell you guys is almost every mages in my fantasy world belongs (or used to belongs) to some group, order, cult or organizations like The Holy Order, Mage academy, druid circle, the legions that have many warlocks, etc. Can you help me answer the question?
  • If there's any questions to fill the holes for better magic system. just ask in the comment. I'll try my best to answer.

2024.05.18 09:42 Agitated_Sand3735 Need help identifying cause of a problem on my JVC KD-V6

I recently picked up this deck off ebay, the seller listed two problems 1. the belts need to be replaced which was easy enough, and 2. "low volume output." Now, from just that I had assumed that it was just like a little quiet or something, but no, it really is almost completely inaudible. The only way I could hear my tape was by plugging the output into my pc and recording it on audacity. With the deck set to max output volume, the highest peak I saw on the audacity vu meter was around -55 decibels (3 times lower than the vu meter on the deck itself can go).
It doesn't look like an problem with the output jacks themselves, as the issue is the same whether I use the line out or headphone jacks, so I'm assuming it has something to do with a broken or worn out component on the motherboard or something with the playhead itself. First I looked at the playhead closer and noticed some weird residue/film on it that can't be cleaned with alcohol and cotton swabs, however I talked to some guy who has the same (perfectly working) deck as me and his playhead has around the same amount of whatever the gunk is on it so I don't think it's that. In the second picture in the link, you'll also see there's some what looks to be water stains inside of the cassette slot? Obviously from that there could be some water damage or something to the playhead, but the erase and record head seem to work fine so I'm not sure if that would be the issue either.
On the main board, the play head equalizer VRs do seem to work and If I turn them to max its just slightly louder, so I'm thinking its something before that. The only thing before that in the circuit is the pre amp IC, the resistors and what not surrounding it and the play head. I've tested all the resistors and other small components like that that are connected to the traces that actually carry sound (from looking at the schematics in the service manual) and they all seem fine. I've got no idea how to go about testing or what testing equipment to use on the pre amp IC nor the playhead individually. Apparently I'm too stupid to fully grasp what the IC does or how it works with the components around from looking at the data sheet (the IC is a Panasonic AN6557 if that helps any) and I don't got any clue as to how the playhead works either.
If needed, i can provide more information or answer questions. So, if anyone thats worked on a problem like this before happens to any idea of what might be wrong, some pointers or advice would be very highly appreciated.
