2024.05.18 19:04 Elninhorm Hsv2 getting worse

Hi everyone, I got HSV2 on October first time. Then I had an outbreak on December, then another on February and I went to a dermatologist who gave me Valacyclovir for 7 days. After 2 months at the end of April I had an outbreak but I didn’t take any antiviral pill just ice on the skin around penis. This week after 3 weeks since the last outbreak I got another one and I started taking immediately valacyclovir. I’m getting depressed because I’m 29 years old, I follow a straight diet, I workout 5/week and I take as supplements vitamin C,D, multivitamin and lysine. I don’t know what to do! Can’t have a girl with this frequent outbreaks, I don’t even want to take everyday for life an antiviral considering all possible side effects. Doing research on Reddit I saw many things from doing a VZV vaccine to using an AHCC supplement, or even using some herbs like oregano oil. What’s the truth? What’s the advice from someone here in the community that reduce all OBs without using antiviral? Help me please

2024.05.18 16:58 FuegoLordF ACNE SCARS

Any good recommendations for dark spots/acne scars? For the most part my skin acts right. Over the last 2-3 weeks I have been drinking three liters of water a day and working out 4-5 times week. I also take a few supplements (zinc, l-lysine, lecithin). My forehead breaks out and it’s so random. I don’t know tho, if it’s a hormonal thing since I’ve had a slight lifestyle change? Maybe the supplements? I have a pretty consistent skincare regimen. Nothing TOO crazy, a cetaphil cleanser, dickinson toner, fortify moisturizer and black girl sunscreen. The only thing I haven’t added yet that I would like to is a good overnight treatment for acne scars.

2024.05.18 13:45 Which_Bell_4575 Lysine/Arginine ratio of beans

Hi, I have HSV1 and also have recently had a recent flare up of GERD ( acid reflux). In order to not lose weight I stupidly started eating a lot of peanut butter and nuts , but started feeling prodrome. I always break out if I eat nuts or too many chickpeas. I realize that beans can replace the calories and I normally eat beans besides chickpeas with no problems , but not a huge amount, so I don't know if that will cause a breakout . I can't find out by googling anywhere if other beans like white beans and pinto beans have a higher arginine/lysine ratio. Does anyone know? Thanks

2024.05.18 11:55 littlemoonbeem Herpes?

Herpes?
I'm 24 and have been experiencing sores on my lips which started out as very tiny and not noticeable. That occurred twice in 3 years. Recently, it seems to have spread across my lips and is extremely uncomfortable to the point where I can't eat or talk or brush my teeth and am completely bed ridden. This is now happening 5 times in 2 months regardless of 3 grams of valtrex, 3000mg lysine, 500mg monolaurin, and oregano oil. I have been avoiding arginine in food. I feel constant tingling, itching, zapping, burning. my tests have all come back negative and nobody can tell me what it is. It starts out like the 2nd and 5th picture where the tiny bumps are everywhere and then they start to leak fluid like the 1st, 3rd, 4th photos. I have been seen by many doctors, dermatologists, and allergists, they say that it can't be herpes. I am desperate for answers. No allergies, no history of eczema or even dry skin, not immunocompromised, no health conditions. Nobody in my family has ever had a cold sore, none of my friends have ever had a cold sore, my boyfriend (the only person I kiss or share anything with) has never had any kind of herpes symptoms and tested negative for herpes twice. They began to appear a few months after we started dating, 4 years ago I specify that my friends and family are either not carriers or asymptomatic since it’s not possible to contract without kissing passionately with no sores present. I know that I could contract it from my boyfriend if he were asymptomatic since I kiss him passionately but he has also tested negative twice.

2024.05.18 11:45 samedude8288 21M with Persistent Inguinal and Testicular Discomfort, Ejaculation Issues - Seeking Advice

Hi all,
I'm a 21-year-old male, and I'm experiencing some persistent discomfort that I could use some advice on.
About a month ago, after performing a lumbar exercise, I started feeling discomfort in my inguinal area. This discomfort became more pronounced when I stretched my abdomen. Initially, it stayed the same for three days, but then I began to feel discomfort behind my left testicle. This discomfort, which sometimes feels like mild pain, worsens when I cough, laugh, or speak loudly.
Here are some additional symptoms and observations:
I've had an ultrasound of both the inguinal area and the testicles. The doctor noted a weakened wall in the inguinal region, which he said is causing pressure on the spermatic cord, but he confirmed that it is NOT a hernia. The ultrasound of the testicles showed slight swelling in the left testic but no fluid buildup, no cysts, and good blood flow.
Four weeks have passed, and the discomfort persists. I took antibiotics for two weeks without any effect. However, I found that anti-inflammatory medication (ibuprofen) provided some relief.
Currently, I feel bloated on the left side of my lower abdomen and still have discomfort in my left testicle. There are no lumps or swelling in the abdomen, just a sensation that comes and goes.
While the discomfort seems to be improving slowly, I'm particularly concerned about the changes in my ejaculation.
Has anyone experienced something similar or have any advice on what might be going on? Any suggestions on what I should do next or what kind of specialist I should see?
Thanks in advance!
P.S. I've been taking some supplements(before this incident), and the doctor assured me they are not the cause of these issues, but I thought it might be relevant to mention.

2024.05.18 01:12 rwcnative Recommendations on daily supplement intake

I’ve recently added a few new supplements. The labels of course have some guidance, but I’m guessing depending on your overall supplement intake and diet, it may vary on the best timing for each.
My latest list and timing for each.
Nicotinamide Vitamin B-3 (morning) Youththeory Ashwagandha (morning) Youththeory Collagen (morning) Nature Made - multi vitamin for him (lunch) Sports Research Triple Strength Omega 3 Fish Oil (lunch) Magnesium Glycinate (after dinner)
The magnesium, collagen and fish oil are new to my daily supplement intake.
I also take a pre workout supplement stack I mix together with water that consist of… Beta Alanine - 6 grams L-Arginine - 3 grams L-Citrulline - 6 grams Creatine - 5 grams
I add a l scoop ish of optimum nutrition amino energy for flavor and a little caffeine (125mg) . I usually workout mid afternoon.
After my workout I have 50gm of whey protein powder mixed with a 1 1/2 cups of 2% milk
Would appreciate any recommendations on the timing for the daily supplements.

2024.05.18 00:39 No-Addendum1208 My experience since having Covid again in January

I developed long covid from a mild infection in February of 2020. I developed new GI issues and POTS from the infection and have since discovered I have hEDS. My symptoms were the worst in 2021-22 until I finally got the POTS dx and was able to start managing my symptoms a lot better. Last summer I started taking LDN and was put on a beta blocker. I’m a teacher and was also on summer break and was able to really take some time to rest. I started this school year better than I had been the past two but still very limited and still was experiencing extreme fatigue, brain fog, and other LC symptoms. I caught Covid at work in January of this year. I’m not eligible for paxlovid so I looked into supplement protocols that could help me with the acute infection. I ended up starting NAC, liposomal vitamin c, L-lysine, and zinc. My acute infection lasted about two weeks and I continued experiencing worsened POTS symptoms, GI symptoms, fatigue, and brain fog for about a month. I continued taking the supplements I started during my infection. I noticed in March I had more energy than I had in years and began cautiously to try more movement. I hadn’t had the motivation or ability to exercise in years at this point and it was bizarre to have it come back. After talking to my doctor we decided l should continue on the supplements I started taking with the Covid infection. I’m now about 3 months out from the end of my acute infection. I currently feel better than I have since 2020. I was really sure having Covid again was going to set me back but it weirdly hasn’t, which I can only attribute to the supplements. I’m wondering about others experiences with these supplements, especially NAC and l lysine. I was told by my doctor that I could stop the l lysine since it’s an anti viral but I’m wondering if part of my LC has to do with a viral reservoir and if anyone else has seen long term improvement with it.
I don’t believe I’m recovered and I have no idea if these improvements will last. It’s actually kind of terrifying to be feeling like my old self when I know just how bad it can get. I’m still trying to take it slow because I don’t want to trigger the symptoms to come back. But I’m curious if anyone else has similar experiences using these supplements or know about why they could be helping me

2024.05.17 17:20 mrthrowaway32 What are the typical reasons why one fails to get morning wood or loses an erection shortly after stimulation?

So...I don't think I have ED...but I don't know.
Most of the time, I have no issue getting an erection when it comes down to sex. Sometimes even without Cialis (5mg) I do just dine with performance...other times I feel like I muster an 80% erection which takes a while to get there and a lot of focus to remain hard enough for sex. There have been some cases where she sucks and strokes me and nothing happens..but I can chalk that up to stress, fresh off a workout, too much caffeine, etc. idk.
I'm 43, and one thing I rarely ever have had is morning wood, that isnt related to needing to go pee or feeling like I have some gas. O. That last part, I've had times where I have some gas that may be putting pressure on my prostrate or something and once I release it, I've noticed my erection deflates fairly quick. Same if I go pee.
Even in my 20s I don't recall getting morning wood. I've never had a wet dream as far as I can remember. I've never been hard in the morning and just want to rollover and have sex...usually cause I need to use the bathroom.
I don't think there is a veinous leak cause I can still get and maintain an erection while standing (especially if I've getting a bj). The only thing I've noticed is typically by myself, standing or sitting...i.e. watching porn or just using my brain, I'll get an erection with some effort but it's not like it's bobbing hard for 2 minutes without touching it...it normally will start to reduce after 30 seconds or less...unless I'm extremely turned on about something.
I don't get random erections during the day. Only time I would is if she and I were playing around like in the kitchen or something, but that's rare anyways.
My natural test is high 400s which I guess isn't horrible for my age. I'm 180lbs, 5ft 11, and muscular. I don't have a dad bod, though my cardio could be better.
I do take supplements....
Prime labs test booster which has HGW, maca, tongkat, etc... sunflower lecithin, pygeum, been taking L-arginine but just switched to l-citruline and started grape seed extract. Rumor has it, those last 2 seem to help with morning wood after a couple weeks and general vasodilation and blood flow. I also take zinc and a multi.
At the end of the day, I was just curious WHY some erections are maintained and remain for a bit and others dissipate quickly. What are the mechanisms at play for the wild differences?

2024.05.17 06:21 Apsis64 Is this a canker or should I see a doctor?

I've never had a canker sore anywhere but my lip, especially not one that hurt bad enough I can barely eat like this one. I just started doing hydrogen peroxide mouth rinses and lysine supplements, and have had this slowly getting worse over the course of a week. It's not red or inflamed like my lip sores normally are, so I'm wondering if that's a cause for concern or not.

The one thing that was clear, was the lack of information, in studies aswell as in posts in this or other subreddits. We cant influence the studies, make them faster or even have the necessary rescources to conduct our own, but we can definitly influence the amount of information given to each other!
Many posts asking about feminization in HRT, especially in combination with Progesteron, often lack crucial infromation to the specific situations. We dont have any studies supporting which factors exactly contribute to the different mechanisms, but having a good amount of Factors for every Person posting here could give us all a bigger picture and maybe help with every single ones situation, even tho its anecdotally it may still help!
Noones memory is perfect, every bit of Information can help!!!
Also note that all of the following information is what i found, tried to understand and put into context or explain the importance. Im not a doctor and CANNOT give medical advice. Im just trying to theorize about this topic and maybe be able to filter out what can help!
  1. Antiandrogen usage (and possible dangers?)
Specifically Spironolactone, an Antiandronegen, is suspected to decrease Breast Size (to be exacty : happiness with breast size). https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23055547/
Finding exact reasons for that is extremely difficult and while researching i didnt find ANY other study supporting this claim, even tho beeing reposted here and in other subs over and over again.
The Level of contradiction only rises in prospect of the apparent enlargment of breasts in female patients using Spironolactone.
"Breast enlargement and tenderness may occur in 26% of women at high doses"
is stated on the Wikipedia article on Spironolactone ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spironolactone ) and an article is linked as source ( https://www.eurekaselect.com/article/128779 ) that i sadly couldnt access.
As seen in Spironolactone, its extremely unclear what exactly contributes to breast development. Contradicting or unfounded claims seem to rule over general discussion about this topic, but from what i found, Spironolactone does not decrease breast size.
Even though it is agreed upon that lowering Testosterone is crucial for feminization (like breast development), i could not find any rescources to where the Testosterone levels should go. There doesnt even seem to be a general understanding how testosterone exactly influences breast development, the general consensus seemingly beeing that testosterone levels should be low with no exact point where to go, though it is advised to reach the "normal" female level of "testosterone 30 – 100 ng/dl; E2 <200 pg/ml" as stated in "The Practical Guidelines for Transgender Hormone Treatment" https://www.bumc.bu.edu/endo/clinics/transgender-medicine/guidelines/
For many Lowering Testosterone by Estradiol Monotherapy seems to work better and decreases intake of different medications, which is generally preferably, not only in hrt. In order to supress testosterone with exclusively with estradiol, estradiol levels starting form around 200pg/mL are needed.
"studies in cisgender men and transfeminine people have found that estradiol levels of around 200 pg/mL (734 pmol/L) suppress testosterone levels by about 90% on average (to ~50 ng/dL [1.7 nmol/L]), while estradiol levels of around 500 pg/mL (1,840 pmol/L) suppress testosterone levels by about 95% on average (to ~20–30 ng/dL [0.7–1.0 nmol/L])" https://transfemscience.org/articles/transfem-intro/ (Under Gonadal Suppresion)
Current Studies, while limited, suggest there is a higher risk of myocardial infarction (MI), ischemic stroke (IS) and Venous thromboembolism (VTE) ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8907681/ ). A thing i have noticed while reading through this is the lack of differentiation in HRT when it comes to Estradiol monotherapy in direct comparison to the use of Estradiol and an Anti-Androgen (AA), aswell as the way the Estradiol entered the System.
Newer research suggest a increased risked of both MI and VTE in prostate Cancer patients taking AAs ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7473503/ ). Similarly AAs are suspected to increase risk of IS ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6675721/ ). There is also another Study that looked at Adverse effects of gender affirming hormonal therapy, in which 22 transfem people were assessed. Only 5 People did not use any kind of Antiandrogen, 3 of which it appeared to have quite mild Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR), with patients recovering from those effects again. The 2 remaining People were both 45 and actively Smoking, one smoking 30 cigarettes a day and dealing with alcoholism, the other one also smoking and having untreated high blood pressure ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9796635/ ).
Obviously more studies are needed but a possible connection between the HRT risks and antiandrogens, with little to no contribution from estradiol is intriguing and could promote a shift to more promotion of montherapy as a safer way to transition.
  1. Progesterone
When it comes to Progesterone i have seen mostly People that said it helped them immensly and People that said it stunted their Breast Development.
Alot of Studies suggest that early intake of Progesterone could potentially negatively influence ultimate breast size in female people that also need to take Estrogen because of Development Issues. Generally its advised to wait for 1 - 2 Years of Estrogen Treatment. https://transfemscience.org/articles/progestogens-early-exposure-breast-dev/
No proper evidence supports or dismisses a positive effect of Progesterone, aswell as timing and amount incase of usage.
  1. GH / IGH-1
Insulinlike Growth Factor 1 or IGH-1 play a big role in childhood growth, aswell as in breast development and peak in Puberty. This lead not only me to question if an increase in growth hormone (GH) could help development of proper female body parts.
Aswell as with most stuff, when it comes to studies supporting or dismissing a potential help of GH, there are none i could find.
Because too much GH can have huge negative effects on the body, you shouldnt use any strong GH enhancers.
Naturally human Growth Hormone (hGH) increases through excercise ( https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12797841/ )
Also a variety of differen Aminoacids is supposed to increase hGH levels. These include :
l-carnitine : sadly the longterm effects are unknown ( https://jissn.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12970-020-00377-2 )
creatine : can increase hGH after workout ( https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25804393/ )
I wouldnt use l-arginine, purely because there is good chance for it to have detremental effects on aging and especially in combination with HRT its hard to tell how the body would react. An increased risk is the potential reward not worth in my Opinion ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7851093/ ).
These CAN be helpfull but HAVE NOT BEEN PROVEN TO HELP. Im just trying to share what im finding, please do not throw out all your money for supplements that could may aswell have no effect.
hGH could also be increased by other Factors like decrease of bodyfat ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2690428/ ) and generally a more healthy life style (which is adviced in any case ;) )
  1. Body-fat-(re)distribution
  2. Different Methods of Estradiol intake
IF ANY OF MY INFO IS WRONG, I FORGOT SOMETHING OR I MISREAD SOMETHING PLEASE SHARE YOUR CRITIQUE. IM NEW TO THIS AND IM DOING MY BEST BUT DONT WANT TO SPREAD MISINFORMATION!!! EVERYTHING IN THIS POST IS NO MEDICAL ADVICE AND ONLY EXPLORING THE TOPIC
This post is not entirely finished yet and i will complete it in the next few days. Sharing your own Experience, specifically with remarks to how Estradiol is beeing taken (intramuscular, oral, transdermal, etc), aswell if Anti-Androgens (and which) are used and if Progesterone (which and time in transition when first beginning treatment with Progesterone) is used. Also weight loss and fat distribution info, aswell as breast development time and state are as important! I totally get that this is all private info and everyone feels comfortable to share other things, to feel free to just share as much as you personally want. Also looking at the rulebook : All the stuff im hoping people would share are not for any survey or study, only for exchange of anecdotal sharing of person Experience. As long as one person maybe finds help or even just solice in your comment, it goes a long way :)

2024.05.16 17:20 Manny631 VENT: Doctors...

I just want to vent a moment, if that's OK.
My psychiatrist was the one to run my Genesight test years ago. She said I have the MTHFR polymorphism, which I do, and to take Deplin. Deplin didn't do shit except drain my wallet. I retrospect I think it was due to a B12 deficiency, which I know how methylfolate can't be used properly without proper B12 and mine for years was "in range" but very low (last reading prior to treatment was 229). Many Neurologists and other doctors missed this.
Anyway, I've been reading Dirty Genes and have been reading posts here, especially the insightful ones by u/Tawinn which are plentiful. I also noticed that in my Genesight test is shows reduced activity in COMT. This is like 5 years after being tested and no one ever brought it up. Promethease doesn't show it, though.
Due to methylation issues, I've been dabbling in folinic acid and hydro/adenso B12. I also started low dose micronized creatine monohydrate a week or so ago.
Yesterday I went there again, still feeling awful, and I brought up the low COMT and how it could mean my dopamine one is high due to slower breakdown, so being on Auvelity (which contains Buproprion, an DNRI) is potentially problematic as anxiety is still high and that is my primary issue, but depression is up there as well. I also brought up the creatine to ease the burden on methylation and using low dose folinic acid. She got... annoyed, to a degree, saying I am looking too far into this and that I find information and run with it. I'll admit, I've found a lot in the past and "ran with it" out of sheer desperation because I feel awful every day. But here is evidence and information for what SHE started the test for. She said she only looks at MTHFR and that I NEED methylfolate and suggests Deplin again, which I won't even try due to financial issues and since it did nothing. I did try 1mg sublingual methylfolate a year ago and I felt awful after 2 or 3 days.
I feel it's unethical to test for something and not understand the big picture, or at least portions around it. I figured she'd at least understand or support creatine to ease the methylation burden. But it was more like she wants me to drop all supplements, or most. Keep in mind I've tried around two dozen mental health meds and combinations, including Spravato/intranasal ketamine. She wants to try another SSRI/SNRI that should mesh well with my body, as per Genesight. The last SSRI I was on was Zoloft and it caused an exacerbation of dissociation.
Now I'm reading u/Tawinn 's post about a MTHFR supplement stack approach that shows what supplements/foods to take and why. Luckily ive done some already reading elsewhere, but it kills me that a random Redditor has read, understood, and shared this information but doctors will not think outside of the box and don't seem to understand any of this at all. The most hated on medical professional on Reddit, the Naturopath, seems to know the most.
My next step is to try low, low, low dose sublingual methylfolate (NOT 1mg again!) and see if that helps. I'll keep taking the creatine (1g or less at the moment), B12 (500mcg-1000mcg sublingually), magnesium lysinate glycinate (200mg or 300mg at night), and eating healthier foods like eggs for choline and spinach for dietary folate.
Sorry for the length. I'm sick of feeling sick despite seeing millions of doctors and doing everything right lifestyle wise.
