🔗Double-Wall Vacuum Insulated 20 oz. Camp Green Yeti Tumbler with MagSlider Lid

https://preview.redd.it/s91e1sc8hfsc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=371aac644f4b6911af8a72ed544edb2beffec03e
Imagine being out in the wilderness, trekking with a backpack full of essential gear. As you stop for a quick sip of water, you grab your Yeti Rambler from the side pocket of your pack, ready to take on whatever the day brings. The durable stainless steel exterior feels solid and secure in your hands, a reassuring presence that you've come to rely on. You tilt the tumbler back, taking a refreshing gulp of water, feeling the coolness seep into your core. The vacuum insulation keeps your drink cold for hours, a constant companion on your outdoor adventures.
As you stow the tumbler back in your pack, you notice the MagSlider lid. It snaps into place with a satisfying click, ensuring that your drink stays inside the tumbler, even when you're on the move. The lid is easy to remove and put back, making it a breeze to clean after a long day of hiking. But there's a catch: the magnet component isn't leakproof, and you have to be careful not to spill when you're taking a drink. It's a minor inconvenience, but you wouldn't want to ruin your backpack or gear with a spill.
In the end, the Yeti Rambler is a solid choice for anyone who values durability, functionality, and style. It's a reliable companion for your outdoor excursions, keeping your drink cold and ready for action. And with so many color options available, you can choose the one that best fits your personality and style. Just remember to be mindful of the MagSlider lid, and you'll be good to go.

Last week, I decided to give the Swig Incognito Camo 20 oz Tumbler a try as my go-to coffee mug. I was drawn to its sleek and modern design, but most importantly, the claim of its triple insulation technology that promises to keep drinks cold for up to 24 hours and hot up to 3 hours.
Upon receiving the tumbler, I was impressed by its slim shape, which fit comfortably in my car's cup holder. The tumbler's minimalist design did not disappoint; it had a chic yet sturdy look and feel. The high-quality stainless steel made it lightweight and easy to hold, but it also lacked scratch resistance, which left me a bit concerned.
Overall, the tumbler made a great addition to my daily routine. Its insulation was truly impressive, as I enjoyed my piping hot coffee all morning and my iced tea stayed cold and refreshing throughout the day. However, I did notice that the lid was a bit tricky to clean, especially around the edges.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Swig Incognito Camo 20 oz Tumbler for its insulation capabilities, modern and attractive design, and the fact that it comes in a variety of colors to suit all tastes. Just make sure to hand wash it carefully to avoid any scratches.

🔗Camo ACU Yeti Tumbler Skin for 20 oz Ramblers

https://preview.redd.it/xhlyep19hfsc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2cc810057182fa6004d3b136d80f3321ffba323e
Recently, I decided to give the DecalGirl Y20-ACUCAMO a try on my Yeti Rambler 20 oz Tumbler, hoping to add a touch of style while safeguarding it from minor scratches. The first thing that caught my eye was the easy installation process, which left no bubbles and caused no mess. Even cooler? The ACU Camo design was a perfect fit for my existing tumbler.
As someone who values both aesthetics and practicality, I was impressed with how thin yet tough this skin was. It offered just the right amount of protection without adding too much extra bulk or weight. It's made right here in the USA, so that's an added bonus to boot.
One thing I did notice, though, was that the skin seemed to attract and retain a small amount of coffee residue, despite the "goo-free removal" claim. While this wasn't a deal breaker and was fairly easy to clean, it did require a bit of extra care.
Overall, I'd say the DecalGirl Y20-ACUCAMO is a great addition to any avid Yeti tumbler owner's collection. It adds a touch of cool camo flair while offering some minor protection to your investment. Just be prepared to put in a little extra elbow grease to keep it looking tip-top.

🔗30oz Stainless Steel Camo Tumbler for Hot and Cold Beverages

https://preview.redd.it/lpraehg9hfsc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7e4b6c12166f97e42da3613f720dda534828f7c
Sipping coffee from my new Camo Yeti Tumbler, I couldn't help but appreciate the sleek design and the way it kept my beverage at the perfect temperature, whether I was indoors or venturing out. The spill-resistant triton lid was a lifesaver, preventing messy spills while I was on the go. However, I did notice that the 30oz size felt a bit too small for my avid coffee-drinking habits, considering the brand's reputation for larger tumblers.
Nonetheless, the insulation did a great job of keeping the beverages cool, and it even worked effectively with hot drinks. I'm looking forward to using this tumbler for years to come.

🔗Corkcicle Camo 24 oz. Tumbler - Insulated, Durable, and Camo Design

https://preview.redd.it/n4dqrvr9hfsc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc86ea76ff99145975720dd2fd9ae4b09e85d045
I recently had the chance to use the Corkcicle Grey Camo 24 oz. Tumbler in my daily life, and I was really impressed with its design and performance. The triple-insulated lining kept my drinks cold for hours on end, and I appreciated the convenience of the sliding, shatterproof lid. The silicone bottom provided an added layer of security, preventing any unwanted spills.
One feature that stood out to me was the silky, soft-touch finish of the tumbler. It was so comfortable to hold, even with its flat sides that made it easy to grip. The stay-put silicone bottom was also a nice touch, preventing any slipping when I set the tumbler down.
However, there were a couple of drawbacks to using this tumbler. The lid can be a bit difficult to clean, especially around the area where the slider mechanism is located. This could be frustrating if you're someone who likes to keep their tumbler spotless.
Overall, I found the Corkcicle Grey Camo 24 oz. Tumbler to be a stylish and functional addition to my daily routine. Despite a few minor drawbacks, it definitely gets the job done when it comes to keeping my drinks at the right temperature.

🔗Camo 30 oz YETI Tumbler Sleeve

As someone who enjoys camping trips and hot beverages, I recently tried the 30oz Camping Camo silicone sleeve for my YETI tumbler. After using it for a while, I must say, it's been a game-changer for my outdoor adventures.
The vibrant camo design adds a personal touch to my tumbler and makes it stand out from the rest, both on and off the campsite. The silicone material is sturdy, providing excellent protection from everyday wear and tear, and even from those pesky rocks lying around the campsite. However, the downside is that it may not fit perfectly on all tumblers, so it's essential to check its compatibility before purchase.
Overall, the Camping Camo sleeve has added a little flair to my camping gear, and I highly recommend it to fellow YETI tumbler owners looking to upgrade their tumbler's look and protection.

Buyer's Guide

When it comes to purchasing a Camo Yeti Tumbler, there are several factors to consider to ensure you get the best product for your needs. Here's a buyer's guide to help you make an informed decision.

Material Quality

One of the most important aspects of a Camo Yeti Tumbler is its material quality. Look for tumblers made of durable 18/8 stainless steel, which is resistant to rust and corrosion. This material ensures the tumbler will last for years and maintain its appearance.

https://preview.redd.it/p3h9vurahfsc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3054df7d9469ee4f1305713262a0fe38e4449e91

Insulation

Insulation plays a crucial role in keeping your beverages at the desired temperature. Choose a Camo Yeti Tumbler with double-wall vacuum insulation to keep your drinks cold for up to 24 hours or hot for up to 12 hours. This insulation also helps preserve the flavor of your beverages.

Leak-Proof Lid

A leak-proof lid is essential for a Camo Yeti Tumbler to ensure your drinks stay inside the tumbler, even when you're on the go. Choose a tumbler with a leak-proof lid that features a magnetic closure to keep the lid securely in place.

Size and Capacity

Camo Yeti Tumblers come in various sizes and capacities, so consider the size you need based on your daily consumption habits. Common sizes include 12 oz, 20 oz, and 30 oz. If you plan to use the tumbler for sharing, you may opt for a larger capacity tumbler.

https://preview.redd.it/fw7t13abhfsc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f593cf377a7c7dc0844391c3f80a71e0b7dc7da7

Color and Design

Camo Yeti Tumblers come in a variety of color and design options, from classic camouflage patterns to more modern designs. Choose a tumbler that aligns with your style preferences and one that complements your outdoor activities.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Easy cleaning and maintenance are essential aspects of any Camo Yeti Tumbler. Look for tumblers with dishwasher-safe parts and a design that allows for easy cleaning. Avoid tumblers with intricate patterns that may harbor bacteria and odors.

Price and Value

When purchasing a Camo Yeti Tumbler, consider the overall value of the product, including its durability, insulation, and design. While quality comes with a higher price point, be sure to find the right balance between cost and performance that suits your budget.
By considering these factors, you'll be well-equipped to choose the right Camo Yeti Tumbler for your needs and enjoy your favorite beverages on the go.

Large backpack in everyone's favourite UCP pattern to match your ACU. It's in great condition overall. I checked that all zippers, straps, and buckles are working and are unmodified. The stiffener panel, foam pad, and jump straps inside are all present too.
The worst cosmetic issue is that the bottom of the interiors has a yellow coloured stain. I do not know what caused it. There is no smell or texture and it looks bright yellow like a highlighter.

2023.09.10 06:22 MertLawless ALICE pack build

ALICE pack build
I’ve used many packs over the years. I found myself back at the original ALICE medium. Replaced all metal strap hardware with plastic buckles. The shoulder straps are from my Savior rifle bag, ACU molle 2 waist strap. Cheap aftermarket frame (for now) Air Force molle pouch on top. I used parts from the cheap straps that came with the frame to make some anti-sway connections on the waist strap. Also used brass eyelets to connect the lower shoulder strap to the frame base with steel cotter pins, sandwiched by two nylon bushings to keep from stressing the eyelets. I have it packed for weekend backcountry trips for now. Contents are as follows: +Slumberjack Everest warm weather down sleeping bag. +MSR mess kit, Primus stove & isobutane canister. Plastic spork thingy. 4 bags of Knors pasta. Misc energy bars. +Slumberjack Solitaire single man bivy tent. +Klymit sleeping pad +Moonstone lightweight GoreTex shell, Patagonia mid weight long sleeve. + small zippered pouch with spare boxers and Smartwool socks. +PUR water purifier + small roll-top sack and paracord for a bear bag. + Coghlans backpacker trowel. + 2 Nalgene bottles, water purification straw. + first aid box + Mission Workshop roll-up tool pack with lighter, matches, SOG multitool, Morakniv Companion, small bottle of soap, paracord, spare plastic buckles, cheap spare LED headlamp, 3 AAA batteries, Swiss Army knife. + battery back-up with charging cables, pack of wet-wipes, Topo maps, compass, small LED pen light.
On me: + Fjallraven Keb trousers. Exofficio boxer shorts. + Exofficio lightweight hiking shirt + REI Marino wool hiking socks. + Rocky S2V tactical boots + Bill Conner Australian leather hat + USMC Ka-Bar + Shemagh + Casio Mudman
This setup is currently being used on our weekend BSA backcountry weekend trips. I recently used this pack in our last meeting to show the Scouts how to pack for self supported trips. This is one of three packs. I have additional gear for longer trips and have a larger USMC FILBE pack as well. Will post that one later.

2023.07.24 19:20 Grizzly907LA Tips and gear for traveling-Part 3

Tips and gear for traveling-Part 3
We're going to swing back to backpacks in this post.
A commenter mentioned that she can't effectively lug around a heavy rucksack. I understand that. I am going to showcase some smaller lighter weight packs, with the main focus on "tactical," MOLLE 2 backpacks.
What is MOLLE?
MOLLE stand for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment. The MOLLE system lets add pouches, and smaller bags to your backpack.
One rule to abide by is "don't overload your MOLLE pack, with too many pouches and other attachments."

Too much fucking gear
I know that the picture looks over the top, however I am making a point. Go easy on the pouches and keep it tight, so everything isn't slopping and flopping around. Lets get on to the main event.
Budget friendly MOLLE backpacks.
There are several affordable MOLLE backpacks out there. Stay away from the cheap Chinese crap. Stay away from packs with names like "courageous soldier," "warrior soul," "sharpshooters mark," and other goofy names. Here's an example of a cheap chinese pack.

Cheap Chinese crap.
Another suggestion is to get at a 45 liter backpack if you want to go lighter. Rock out if you can get your gear into a smaller pack.
Affordable smaller MOLLE Backpacks
LA Police gear
LA Police gear makes durable and affordable smaller backpacks. Here are some to consider.
24 Hour Atlas pack
This is a 52 liter pack. Like most LAPG products, it's tough and have MOLLE webbing throughout it. I have the 72 liter version and it's built like a brick shit house.

LAPG 24 Hour pack
LAPG 12 Hour pack
This pack is the little brother to the 24 hour pack. Once again, it's tough and durable, with tons of MOLLE webbing.

LAPG 12 hour pack
Condor tactical
Condor makes several packs that are budget friendly, yet tough and durable.
Condor Medium Assault pack
This pack is on the small side for me at 35 liters, but it could benefit someone who is smaller in stature.

Condor Medium Assault pack
Condor 3 Day Assault pack
This is a 52 liter pack.

Condor 3 day assault pack
The USGI medium backpack
This is a military surplus backpack. It has a polymer frame, and can hold about 50 liters. There are two color variants. ACU and OCP.
USGI medium backpack ACU pattern
This can be scored a decent price, because its in the horrid ACU aka "grandmas couch," pattern. You can dye this and that will make this pattern more palatable.

USGI Medium pack, ACU.
USGI Medium pack OCP aka multicam.
This pack will cost more than the ACU version, but is the same pack, minus the camo pattern.

USGI Medium pack OCP.
USGI Assault pack
This pack is the little brother to the USGI medium back pack. It's a 37 liter pack. The pack is frameless. It also comes in the ACU pattern.

USGI Assault pack.
Non MOLLE packs.
Here are some non MOLLE, non tactical packs. Those packs are good if you're worried about, standing out.
Kelty
Kelty has been making backpacks for years. Their packs are reasonably durable, but they can be pricey. You could find some on fleabay that may be less expensive.
Kelty Redwing 50
The Kelty redwing is a pack that comes in a variety of sizes and colors. They are lighter weight, but a little less durable than the tactical packs.

Kelty Redwing 50.
Kelty Redwing tactical
This pack is almost like the Kelty redwings but its built with tougher fabric, and is supposedly up to military standards. You mileage may vary.

Kelty Redwing tactical.
Honorable mention.
I am going to mention one honorable mention and that's the Mardintop "tacticool," backpack. It's a honorable mention because it's a Chinese backpack and comes with mixed reviews.
Mardingtop 50 liter back pack

Mardingtop 50 liter backpack.
Conclusion
You have to get something that works for you. There are other smaller backpacks out there, but they are expensive. Companies to consider if you have the dough to spend are, 5.11, Kafaru, Mystery Ranch, Savvota, Elbelystock and others.
Read the fucking reviews and don't go with something that is cheap crap. Ask questions. Fitment, and comfort are very important. I perfectly understand that people may have roll with a cheap pack. Roll with a cheap pack if that's all you can afford and get a better option if and when you have the cash to spare.
Good luck and happy travels!

2023.07.17 20:08 Grizzly907LA Tips and gear for traveling-Part #1

I know others have posted similar threads. My goal is to provide a bit of added information. I hope this helps
Before I begin I want to give a little background. I'm a Navy vet. I became homeless in 2001, from some bad choices and the fallout from my medical problems that cropped up in 1998. I also have an unhealthy obsession for military surplus gear. I've been researching as well. Here's some of my gear recommendations.
You're going to need something to sleep under, sleep on and sleep in, and you need something to carry your gear. Roughing it, dictates that you need gear that can handle rough use.
Military surplus gear fits the bill and is relatively inexpensive.
Rucksacks
The ALICE pack-Large
Old ALICE just won't go into the retirement home. This pack has been around for over 50 years. It's a tough old broad and can take a lot of hard use. Make sure you get a genuine ALICE pack and not some cheap Chinese knockoff. You can which ones are real, because they will have a tag, with an NSN number. Not the most comfortable pack, but they're inexpensive, and still available. FleaBay is a good place to look for them.
Ms MOLLE Woodland camo
Good golly it's Miss Molle in woodland camo. This is the precursor to the MOLLE 2 Rucksack. It comes in 5 pieces...The shoulder straps, Hip belt, frame and sleeping bag carrier. If you get a frame, make sure it's a gen 2 or higher, because the gen 1 frames had a tendency to crack and break. It's a rare bird these days but can still be found. The best place to find them is on FleaBay.
Ms Molle-ACU
This is the successor to the woodland camo pack, and comes in the ACU aka grandma's couch pattern. It's big and ugly, but makes up for it by working hard, and able to take a beating. Those packs are relatively inexpensive (because everyone hates the ACU pattern.) You can dye this pack if you can't stand the ACU patterns colors. FleaBay for the win! They have a model in OCP (multicam,) but its more expensive than ole ugly, ACU. The OPC (multicam)
The ILBE rucksack
This is perhaps the best surplus rucksack of them all. The ILBE rucksack was designed by Arctyx, and resembles a regular hikers backpack, however it's much tougher and can haul a heavier load. They have come down in price but are a rarer commodity these days. Make sure you get the complete pack. Shifty/Shitty sellers of these packs will often sell the lid, the straps and hip belt separately. Overall it's a great pack. I have one, I love it, and will not be getting rid of it.
The FILBE ruck
This is the successor to the USMC ILBE rucksack. There was nothing wrong with ILBE pack in and of itself. They replaced it, because it was unsuitable to carry while wear body armor. This pack has a polymer frame, the USGI MOLLE rucksack. Its also built like a brick shit house. They can be pricier than the ones that I have already mentioned. FleaBay it and make sure you get one that doesn't have any rips, tears or holes. Also get one that has the frame, straps and hip belt.
Shelter
You're going to need something to protect you from the elements. Everyone says tents are a bad idea. A tarp is a viable solution and can be used in many situations. Once again military surplus to the rescue and some that are military surplus plus pretty damn durable.
USMC Reversible tarp
This tarp is relatively inexpensive and built to last. They have an ACU version which might be a little cheaper. The ACU tarp FleaBay/Military surplus stores. Make sure to get one that doesn't have any major rips, tears or holes. They are also waterproof. Downsize they are heavy but packable.
Inexpensive Walmart tarp
This the standard tarp that you can find at Walmart, Harbor Freight..etc. Cheap, probably won't last long but will keep you safe from the elements. You can also use a shower curtain, if you're strapped for cash.
Free Soldier of similar
This is an inexpensive, lightweight tarp, and comes highly reviewed. Not as durables the above mentioned tarps, but it weights a lot less and packs down really well.
If you can, get a solid, decent tarp. You can go cheap, but, you will have to replace them more often, and it sucks if your tarp fails in the field...especially during bad weather, and you're ass will be in a sling.
Cordage
It goes without saying that you're going to need cordage, when using tarps. Paracord, and #36 bank line are your best bets.
Ground mats and inflatable pads.
You need something to sleep on. Sleeping directly on the ground will cause massive heat loss, plus the ground is hard. Getting a thermarest foam pad at the least will get you off of the ground and help you stay warm. An inflatable sleeping mat is the best bet. They are comfortable, and pack down to almost nothing. Make sure you get one with a high R value for those winters months so you don't freeze your ass off.
Something to sleep in
Poncho Liner
You will need something to sleep in. You can get by with a Poncho liners will keep you warm in mild weather 70-50 degrees. They are packable and don't take up much space. You could make yourself a "Ranger roll," by combining a USGI poncho with the poncho liner. It's a decent warm weather sleeping bag. You will be freezing your nuts off if you use it in colder environments.
USGI MSS Sleep system
This is an awesome sleep system...if you 6'0" and shorter. You're SOL if you're taller than that or if you're big (fat.) The MSS is a multi layered sleep system that's used by the Army and USMC. It's made of up of two sleeping bags, a jungle bag (warm weather,) an intermediate bag (for colder weather,) and a Gortex bivvy. You can keep warm in extremely cold environments by combining the bags, and bivvy. The MSS is an all in one solution, however it's fucking heavy (12 LBS,) but its worth the weight hit. Make sure you get a genuine one, and not a piece of shit, Chinese knock off. Make sure to get the complete system, because some shifty/shitty seller will sell only one bag.
Coleman/Teton Sports sleeping bag or similar
Coleman and Teton make inexpensive sleeping bags, and they also have big (pig,) and tall options. They are comfortable, but weigh, a ton, but work. Be very careful because their temperature ratings are off. They rate their bags on survival and not comfort. For example, if their bag is rated for 20 degrees, add 10-15 degrees to get the comfort rating.
Down sleeping bags for backpacking
Down sleeping bags offer a great amount of warmth, for a packable size. Down sleeping bags can pack down into almost nothing. The three major downsizes to down sleeping bags, are price, down doesn't keep you warm if it gets wet, and they are fucking delicate.
Stay the fuck away from cheap, POS cheap Chinese sleeping bags! Sleep is life. Your ass is going to be dragging, if you're train hopping and vagabonding around. You need to get good sleep! Don't fuck around with your sleep! Getting a good nights sleep is vital, because it's the only time that soft tissue heals...think your heart, and muscles.
Water treatment/purification/Sourcing
Water is also life. A human can only go three days without water, before dying. Dehydration is a fucking bitch. Ask me how I know that? Carry at least a gallon of water or more, as others have said. Here are some options to hold and carry water.
USGI two quart canteen
Those canteens are readily obtainable, and cheap. Two of them will give you a gallon of water. The canteen covers can be attached to the military surplus rucksacks.
Soft or collapsible water pouches
Those pouches are a great option for carrying extra water. Many of them can be attached to your ruck, using carabiners. I wouldn't put them inside of the ruck unless they are empty, because I don't trust water bladders. Needless to say they are insanely packable. Read the reviews and make sure you get one that is durable and doesn't burst.
Slicock key
Silcock keys are well worth their weight in gold. They allow you turn on spigots that don't have a handle. Those outlets are located on many industrial type of buildings.
Stainless steel, single walled canteen
They made be a bet heavier, but are tough, can carry water, and can be used to disinfect water via boiling. Get a single walled one, because the double walled ones will blow up, if you try to boil water in them.
Water treatment
You might have to disinfect and treat water, if you can't find a safe water source. Here are some of ways to make dirty water, drinkable.
Boiling water
You can disinfect water by boiling it. That will kill the germs and critters that are present in lakes, rivers and streams. It will not make it taste better.
Water purification or "don't piss out of your ass pills."
Water purification tabs will make your water safe to drink. Beware, those tabs have an expiration date.
Sawyer Squeeze or Mini
Those water filtering and purifying device are very inexpensive. They can filtepurify a lot of water. Beware, they can go bad if they freeze. Make sure to keep and store them in a warm place during weather below freezing.
I am going to break this up, because I've rambled on, quite a bit.
NOTE: I would stay away from lifestraws. They are a pain in the fucking ass to use.

2023.06.20 11:39 OlChippo Looking for some advice/opinions on a rucksack.

Hey guys, I've been rucking for a bit now however I've been using a backpack which just isn't cutting it with the increase in weight. It's a sturdy backpack which we receive from representative teams so it's done the job but it's time to get something for the job.
I do all my rucking on trails and in the bush, usually I'm carrying 20kg and will do no less than 5km. Although I haven't done so in a while I'd like to get back into either day trip or overnight hiking so I'm trying to keep that in mind.
I'm not particularly interested in buying a "go ruck" simply because the shipping to Aus is insane and I'd like to do some more hiking/packing.
I'm not sure if I should go for a military rucksack or just a backpack suited for rucking and heavier loads. I've included some links and would love some feedback of possible or even recommendations.

2023.06.01 08:53 ApprehensiveMeat69 New Player Questions

So, having played the free weekend (really just an hour before work on the 30th) I made the jump and bought the basic pledge. Got the Pisces.
Anyways, I’ve finally done my first mission, and have 3K-ish aCU to spend (I uh.. had a lot of deaths and more or less spent all my money. My body wasn’t ever retrievable lol), so what should I get? I’m thinking a chest piece and a backpack for sure but also not sure if I’ll have the dosh for both.
Edit: I’m going to do what a lot of people suggested; more box missions. I don’t mind, I did delivery missions in Elite Dangerous as my main trade, I’m more than used to this kind of grind. Would love to get into mining. Always down to crew up as well (and to the person that told me to save the 3K for repairs/fuel, good call. That’s all I’m saying lol).

The Stuff

SOLD Ops Core FAST SF Ballistic, Medium, Tan - $1495 shipped
Gucci helmet. Brand new, just bought this. Tried on for less than 90 seconds. Turns out medium is a tiny bit too small on me and unfortunately, armor is a non returnable item. Would also trade for the same helmet in Large, any color. Detail pictures: https://imgur.com/a/sDYPgJw
SOLD Kifaru X-Ray Backpack with PALS belt - $495 shipped
Old gen X-ray in black with a matching PALS belt. Extremely rare. Black has been discontinued for years. Overall it's in very good shape, no rips, damage, or tears that I can find. The inside PU lining on the cordura is a little white but otherwise it's 100% solid. It is a tactical EDC pack, around 30L, and has a very strong frame so it can carry a surprising amount of weight for being only 30L. Check out this review on the X-Ray from the Carryology blog. A new X Ray is $550 and the belt is another $70ish. And Kifaru charges tax and shipping on top. Around $675 when all is said and done. And of course, the only color available now is multicam which is OOS anyway. I'm looking for $495 shipped for this one. Pics: https://imgur.com/a/dYhqFg8
SOLD Kifaru Tactical Zippy Backpack with Omni Frame Sheet - $375 shipped
Coyote color, great condition. Includes an Omni Frame which is normally a separate purchase. Brand new the TZ costs $450 plus tax/ship and is also no longer available in Coyote. Great condition, no damage of any sort. https://imgur.com/a/5J8tF8Z
FDE Law Folder Gen 3 - $225 Shipped
Great condition, used for a couple range days but decided that I don't need folding capability right now. Can't find the flange tool so assume it's not included, but if I do, I'll definitely pop it in the box. No damage, gouges, or scrapes of any sort. Just light usage only. https://i.imgur.com/xICboL1.jpg
AXL Micro Harness and Crye AVS Yoke (Upgrade suite for the Crye AVS) - $225 shipped
These items replace the bulky/hot AVS harness and give a much more modular, lighter weight, more flexible PC but it still has complete structural stability and load bearing capacity. You'll get the complete Crye Yoke and AXL Micro Harness. Purchasing these new would cost $260 plus tax and shipping. Both are Ranger Green. (The pictured Equinox c-bund and Tubes adapters are sold).
SOLD Brigand Arms 9" woven carbon fiber EDGE handguard - $240 Shipped
Brand new, never used, never installed, never even mocked up. I believe this is the lightest handguard on the market but still incredibly strong. Also includes a Brigand MLOK adapter plate (costs $22) and a Brigand picatinny rail accessory (costs $40). Whole package would cost over $350 from Brigand. Product page: https://brigandarms.com/product/edge/. Pic: https://i.imgur.com/N7Nq1OQ.jpg
SOLD AOR1 Navy Goretex Jacket - $120 shipped
Completely waterproof. Size Medium Long - fits anyone 5'10"-6'4" and 160-225 lbs probably. Reposting since last time someone called dibs and then immediately disappeared. Brand new. No damage, stains, smells, or pet hair. Fits generously with room to layer inside. Tons of pockets to store all your gummi worms and tendies. Also has an internal zipper for ECWCS fleeces to zip in. Would also consider trades for a 15-25L pack in the same pattern or highly similar (desert digital, MC Arid, etc). Issued to DEVGRU/SEALS, Navy EOD and a variety of other Navy units for operating in the mountains of Afghanistan. Detail pics: https://imgur.com/a/HnfRmBv
LMT and Seekins Ambi Safeties - $40 shipped each or $34 add on
Seekins is sold. Both LMT still available. All brand new, takeoffs from various lowers. Never used for live fire. The Seekins can be a 60* or 90* throw. https://i.imgur.com/zpzpRlu.jpg
KAC T2 Battery Cap - $90 shipped
Very good condition. Threads are perfect. https://i.imgur.com/zpzpRlu.jpg
SOLD Crye SPC Cummerbund, RG, S/M - $70 shipped
Gently used. No damage at all. This is the correct size for almost everyone unless you're planning on putting 2 side plates and 2 radios inside your cummerbund. https://i.imgur.com/pHXoFnO.jpg (Happy to take a better pic if you want)
LMT Full Auto BCG L7D3- $195 shipped
Brand new, purchased factory direct, never fired by me or inserted into an upper. I abandoned my Specwar project so don't need this anymore. Costs $225 from LMT and currently out of stock. https://i.imgur.com/0TOciqK.jpg
Cross Machine Tool T2 Mount (Lower 1/3) - $45 shipped
Fits Aimpoint H1/H2/T1/T2 or any optic that shares the same footprint - Sig Romeo, Vortex Sparc, Holosun 403/503, etc. https://www.cmttac.com/AIMPOINT-T1-MOUNT-LOWER-3RD-VIEW. Costs $70 after shipping from CMT. It is brand new in the packaging. https://i.imgur.com/YjVGlbA.jpg
SOLD Microbest Chrome BCG - $125 shipped
Brand new, catch and release, never fired by me or prior owner, (not sure if they factory test fire though). MPI, C158 bolt. Beautiful chrome finish. https://i.imgur.com/0TOciqK.jpg
Burris Fastfire 3 on Offset Mount - $180 shipped for dot and mount.
Includes offset mount by YHM. A little salty, used, but no damage or deficiencies. Great way to try out an offset RDS at a low price and see if it's for you before spending bigger money on a Badger mount and fancy optic. 3 MOA dot. The FF3 costs $230 and the mount costs another $30. $260 total brand new. SN: https://i.imgur.com/2xj2BhN.jpg and https://i.imgur.com/wetXvPM.jpg
USGI IFAK - $8 add on
USGI IFAK in good physical condition, no damage or tears. Includes the removable insert with the bungee. Originally ACU, has been spray painted a tannish-green. Would look good on any coyote, RG, MC kit. Buy anything else and add this on for only $8. https://i.imgur.com/1qPQhK5.png

2022.12.24 18:07 ThatOneDude609 Stubborn Little Apes: Chapter 5

First Previous

I sat myself down upon the bed of my truck, looking towards the night sky despondently. I couldn’t see the stars, of course- not with the light pollution, and the fact that the sky was still darkened further with smoke, a grim reminder of battle. The air was warmer than it should have been for a night in DC, only just slightly. What a mess we’ve found ourselves in.
And yet, looking up at the inky black sky was refreshing, a moment’s peace. Like staring into a pool of nothingness, and letting my memories of the past 36 hours wash away from me for a fleeting second. And delving into older ones. I remembered going backpacking with some buddies of mine, about 5 years back. Flew all the way back to Scotland for the first time since I was 4 to summit Ben Nevis, celebrating my 18th. That was a damn fun one. Hiked to the top, set up camp, and dragged our asses all the way back down the next day. It was the most god damn beautiful night ever, not a cloud in the sky, full moon smiling on us amongst the stars.
No more.
Nothing would ever be quite like it was before, no matter what happens from this point on, but… I was gonna make those bastards pay.
I snapped myself out of my memories and on to the plan for now. Little told me to get myself a motel for tonight, but I had to report to him and the rest of my squad at Fort Drum by 1600 hours in my ACU. I should get out of DC, every motel here is probably either destroyed or filled. If I was lucky, there might be something open in Frederick. If I could, I’d hopefully get some much needed sleep that I hadn’t for days. But I should get outta here fast then, Frederick’s about an hour away if I recall. God damn, I’d wish that we could’ve gotten some transport hooked up for us, but apparently the military was just ‘too tied up’.
Hell, I wouldn’t mind going to sleep in my truck at this point- but to do so right here, right now, specifically would probably be a poor idea. So, begrudgingly, I pulled myself up and out of the truck bed, vaulting over the side and landing gracefully on my feet. I turned back around and surveyed my vehicle. Despite everything, my 2005 F-150 was still the same as it was when I got it 7 years ago. I walked to the driver side door and opened it, sliding in and starting the thing up robotically. The hum of the engine was strangely, somewhat soothing.
I set the directions to Frederick on my phone- after confirming there were some motels open at this time, thankfully- and flicked on the radio so I didn’t have to drive in silence. With my own thoughts. Although if anything, that brought my mood down even more. Station after station was focused only on the disaster. After a minute or two of flicking through, finally I found some proper music, Sabaton at that. Sure, that’ll do.
With all that done, I quickly pulled out of my spot, and started making my way there.
“Come on you sons of bitches! Do you wanna live forever!?

My breathing was uneven and erratic, drawing in quick shallow breaths that threatened to knock me unconscious from a lack of oxygen. The sound of gunfire all around me was deafening, a constant din of panic. People shouted in alarm and in warning all around me, commands and curses. If anything, it was a small mercy. They almost drowned out the screams of pure, unchained agony in front of me.
The unfortunate man’s midsection was melted, flesh rolling off and mixing with slagged ceramic plating that had proven useless against a stray plasma bolt from those things atop the hill. The smell, oh god the smell. I called for a medic and gave him a shot of morphine, but what could they do? The man was gone, a dead man that just wouldn’t die yet. His organs were turned into paste. It was a cruel thing.
I considered, for a moment, picking up my discarded M4 and giving him a softer sendoff. But… I couldn’t do that. I just didn’t have the heart for it. And, I’d be tried for murder. When the medic arrived seconds later, I omitted the fact that I had already administered morphine. It was better this way. I sat down, and waited for the screaming to stop.

I woke up to the rhythmic, yet no less shrill and irritating, alarm on my phone at the bedside. I still, reluctantly, preferred it to staying asleep. I fumbled for it, for a moment, before yanking it off the charger and checking the time. 7:36.
Silencing that damnable alarm, I laid back again for a minute, staring discontently at the plain ceiling. Groaning, I decided wasting time was not in my best interest and sat up, wincing at how stiff my muscles had gotten after the past days. My spine made a popping sound that I’m pretty sure it wasn’t supposed to make.
I swung my legs over the side of the bed and jumped up, forcing my body to be active despite how much it wanted to just shut down again. I grabbed my phone and put on my boots; never brought any of my shit in here, so there was no need to pack back up. Just as well, I don’t think I could stand this stuffy, cigarette-smoke smelling room a second more.
Walking out to the reception desk, I go through the motions, paying and ignoring the desk clerk’s even more hollow than usual ‘thank you for staying with us’. I was too busy checking my phone, looking for text messages, missed calls, anything. At the sight of none, I swiped over to my contacts, calling for one ‘Rory Cromwell’. The phone rang and rang, but no answer. Cursing and fearing the worst, I begin to call again. This time he does pick up, much to my silent relief.
“‘Ello?” Came the gruff, yet soothing and familiar voice from the other end.
“Is everyone still okay over there? You said you’d check up in the morning.” I cut to the chase, foregoing the usual small talk.
“Calm down lad, we’re all jes’ fine. Well, ‘twas til’ yeh woke me up.”
“Woke you up? Shouldn’t it be afternoon over there?”
“Can’t an old man have his sleep?”
“That’s not…” I gave up on that line. Sometimes I forget just how bullheaded he could be. I got in my truck and started it, continuing the conversation as I pulled out of the parking lot.
“This is serious. I can’t keep track of you from all the way over here, and I just want to know everything’s okay.” I say with an edge to my voice.
“Ah know the situation, yeh called me just last night. Ahm’ old, not senile. Unsurprisingly, aliens dun wanna mess with us Scots, heh.” He, of course, lightheartedly responded.
I sighed. “Just… be careful, okay? Keep an eye on my niece and brother for me. Love ya.”
“Don’t stress yerself over me. Ahm sure yer stressed enough as-is. And, love yeh too lad.”
Before either of us said anything more, he quickly hung up. Leaving me to my own thoughts, and to focus on the drive. You’d think that he, of all people, would take this seriously. Whatever. He’s safe, he’s fine, he’s stable, and so is everyone else. That’s what matters. I even let out a small chuckle at the way he blew the whole situation off like that, because in hindsight, of course he would.
I turned the radio back on, and prepared myself for the long drive ahead of me.

‘Welcome to Fort Drum, Home of the 10th Mountain Division’, an immaculately-kept sign read, alongside several division symbols including my own 42nd Infantry Division’s tricolor rainbow. I had gotten here in ample time, the dashboard reading 14:03. Two hours to get my ass in shape, more than enough time.
I sped through the process of checking in the gate, a cold and mechanical process even compared to before. It felt like most of the life was drained out of most people. But unlike a great many, I could see a fire behind these men’s eyes. Everyone from the additional gate guards to the guy checking my ID seemed constantly tense, jittery, ready for action. Of course, just like the very first time I checked in here, I was told to go straight to Clark Hall for a proper reception and check-in.
Finally, after hours of driving, I was let past the gate and another short 10 minute drive later, parked in one of the very, very few open spots in front of Clark Hall. Turning off the engine that probably desperately needed to have an oil change by now, I stepped out and stretched, taking in the considerably cleaner air. Why the aliens hadn’t struck actual military targets, I didn’t know, but at least here there was no smoke here.
I turned my eyes to the large, brick building that was teeming with people, and started making my way towards it with haste. Once everything was out of the way, I could relax. Maybe even catch a nap before needing to meet back up with Little. More sleep sounded nice right about now. I struggle my way through the decent-sized crowd, all moving in disunion and disarray, making it take even longer than it should have.
“Jacob!” Came a voice above the din. What the… who was calling my-
Something weaved between the crowd and slammed into my chest, making me stumble back a few steps, coughing. Though obviously, the intent had not been to seriously hurt. My gaze met a familiar, grinning face. One Private Andrew Hoffman.
“Did ya really have to sucker punch me in the chest?” My question only elicited a hearty laugh in response, and he extended a hand for me to shake, pulling me in for a half-hug once I gripped it.
“Fuck you man, we thought you died! Just disappeared on us after the battle. Fuck,” Andrew said, releasing me from the hug, but grabbing me by the shoulder and turning me back around to the parking lot, “Let’s get outta this crowd, the others need to see you, come on!”
I didn’t need to be told twice. The prospect of sleep was nice and all but… it could wait just a bit longer. I followed him close, as he tapped away on his phone, presumably contacting the others. Sure enough, hardly 5 minutes later as we waited out in the parking lot, Hoffman talking my ear off the whole while, an old off-gold 1999 Honda Civic came peeling in, probably faster than was supposed to be allowed. Pulling up next to us, two people hopped out before the driver continued on, likely to go find a proper spot to park. One had curly brown hair and a roundish face, while the other had black hair and a 5 o’clock shadow on a sharper face.
“Fuck me dead, ya really did it, ya found the cunt!” Private Riley Martin, the black-haired one, was the first to exclaim, splaying his arms out and walking over to see me, the PFC following close behind, both smiling wide. Despite the awful past few days, I couldn’t help but reciprocate and crack just a little grin.
“Swear jar!” Joked PFC Chris McBeth, wagging his finger at the Aussie. He got a similar finger in response.
“Ah, rack off.”
“Hey guys, where’s Black Dog? Thought he was with you.” Andrew interjected before the conversation could devolve any further.
“Holmes? Drove us here, duh. You think either of us are responsible enough to drive? He’ll be back after he finds a spot to park.” Chris answered quickly.
“So, where the hell were ya mate?” Riley asked, gesturing towards me and taking a step forward.
“Uh,” I pondered the question for a moment, considering both if I wanted to, or if I was even allowed to, talk about it, “I got selected to give some recap to the top brass and press. At the Pentagon.”
Riley’s eyebrows, as well as the other’s, raised marginally in surprise.
“That’s really where you’ve been this whole time? Must be why nobody knew where ya buggered off too.”
“Yeah man, it was all just a big mess.” I waved him off, hoping no one pressed the situation. I’m back now, that’s what matters, I’d rather leave all that behind me and forget it. Of course, I’d never forget everything, no matter how much I tried…
The sound of someone whistling thankfully snapped me out of my short line of thought, and I looked away from the group over to the sharp sound. A fair distance away, a beefy, bald man rocking a beard was jogging towards us.
“Heyyy, Black Dog!” Shouted Andrew, at the same time he finally reached us.
“C’mere,” Corporal Wilson Holmes grinned, smacking me on the shoulder and pulling me into a bear hug, “Real good to see you again, sarge.”
“And it’s good to see you again, Corporal.”
The Corporal opened his mouth as if about to say something, but decided against it, instead just giving me another clap on the shoulder and moving past to join the rest of the group. I turned to face the rest, a little swell of happiness in my heart. My squad, if anything, made it out alive. That’s a hell of a silver lining, and one I’d be happy to hang onto.
“So, the Pentagon happen to fork over any state secrets?” Hoffman asked, giving a little wave of his hand as if to say ‘come now, don’t keep us waiting’.
I merely shrugged and splayed my hands out, saying, “Maybe. Maybe not. That information’s classified.”
That one got a groan from some of them, including Hoffman, but still he smiled. Walking over and wrapping an arm around me, he stated, “Whatever, man. I’m just glad to see you in one piece again.”
“Glad you seem to be in better spirits, too. You were pretty screwed, last time we spoke.” Holmes directed at me with a pointed look, his smile falling just a margin.
“Yeah, well,” I directed back, “You all kinda were, too. Cept’ Andrew, but he’s an anomaly.”
I hide my pain with LAUGHTER!” The man in question shouted, overly enthusiastically, pumping his fist in the air. It had the intended effect of shifting the mood right back once again, eliciting a chuckle out of the group.
“Heh, ain’t that the truth…” I narrowed my eyes, pulling away from the wannabe jester’s half-hug.
“So, c’mon now, you really ain’t gonna tell us about your visit to the damn Pentagon?”
“I didn’t say that, I just said it was heavily classified,” I jokingly defended myself, “But nah, really, can’t tell ya much. I’ve gotta get my ACUs on anyway, ‘cause I can tell ya that the base has got a meeting with the Lieutenant Colonel about our next steps in a few hours.”
“Yep, heard about that one,” Chris claimed, scratching his head, “Hell if I know what it’s about, though.”
“That’s because you’re deaf, dude. Little said something about flying out to… eh, Palermo?” Andrew sounded somewhat unsure.
“Naples, then Palermo. We apparently fly out for Italy in about a week-ish.” I clarified, getting a bigger reaction from the rest.
“A week, holy hell!”
Exclaimed Riley, while Holmes whistled and commented that, “Damn, turns out that you can really get results when you light a fire under the government’s ass.”
“Again, ain’t that the truth. Our COs will fill us in on specifics later.” I finished my explanation.
“Fill us in when, five minutes beforehand?” Riley interjected, causing Chris to scoff.
“Five? You guys have too much faith, probably more like three.”
“Who needs a game plan at all? Shoot the lizard folk and oust Zuckerberg for betraying us, that’s the game plan!” Andrew kept up his chest-thumping brash visage.
“Who the fuck brought up Zucc?” I questioned, prompting Andrew to point at himself in an exaggerated manner.
“Uh, I did, weren’t you paying attention?”
Okay, now that got me. Laughing, I informed the group, “Well, I should check in and get changed. Gimme a minute, would ya?”
“Don’t lie, you just want to fuck the receptionist.”
Andrew’s sarcastic comment caused Chris to put a hand up to his mouth and gasp, playing along with, “Jacob! How scandalous!”
More laughter ensued.
“Fuck you guys, I’ll be right back.” Finally, I allowed myself to peel away from the group and headed back towards the building with no further stalling, the laughter continuing on behind me. I allowed my smile to fade, once my back was turned and I was out of sight in the crowd. Leave it to that lot to get me to smile at all again, even for a short little bit.
Right, let’s do this.

…I’m really bad at this, aren’t I? Well, uh, Merry Christmas, Hanukkah, and all that, everyone! Shoddy present, I know, but I wasn’t exactly about to ship a new toy to each of ya. What do I look like, Santa? At least it’s an early present, since no way in hell would I have time to finish it on Christmas day proper.
Anyway, yeah, it’s been a minute again. But, I have a possible solution! Starting yet ANOTHER story! Now, bear with me; that doesn’t mean I would be abandoning this one. But, I was thinking that if I could get a second story to work on when I get writer’s block for this one, I’d switch over to writing that, and then switch right back over to this one once I’ve got the energy back up to do it.
Hell if I know if it’ll work, but I’ve gotta try something. Plus, I’ve had the hankering to possibly get back into writing fanfiction. You can shut your mouths on your opinions on fanfiction, I’ve heard it all, but what I WOULD like you folk’s opinions on is the general idea of having a second story to work on. Let me know. I think it could work.
What I also want to know is if y’all just want me to hurry up and throw them all into the thick of it at Palermo, or if you want them to show the crew hanging around the base a bit. My impatient brain says to hurry up and just get to the carnage, but something more rational tells me that I should be at least attempting to build relationships here so that you get invested in the characters. And, uh, yeah, that’s all I have to say. Long author’s note.
…Anyway, toodles!
