What's up with these car detailing scams?

2024.05.21 22:41 Common-Two-7899 What's up with these car detailing scams?

I have googled it and found answers including some discussions on this subreddit, but I'm not sure I'm buying it. I live in a small town and we're seeing dozens of car detailing scammers on local Facebook groups every week. It seems unbelievable that so many people are getting into such a low-value scam?
Some people are saying that the "scam" is just that there really is someone who will detail your car, and will just do a bad job of it. I definitely don't buy that. Many of these scams are clearly coming from hacked/stolen FB accounts. I can't see so many people from small town NZ being such a loser that the only work they can get is badly cleaning cars, but also sophisticated enough to hack accounts or purchase hacked accounts.
Some people say the scam is that someone will come and clean your car but swap out car parts while you're not looking. This seems insanely unlikely. People who want to steal car parts either steal cars or raid them in the dead of night. They don't show up to your door, show their face, meet and greet and exchange money.
Some people say they act as a "middle man" between legitimate detailing businesses and customers, just taking a cut. I don't buy that, because why would the legit detailer agree to such an arrangement? They only way this could work (that I can think of) would be for the customer to pay the real detailer at the job site and the detailer to pay a commission to the scammer. But the customer acquisition channel here is a Facebook post on a local group, no way a legit detailer pays out a commission for something they could do themselves so easily and for free. Also, if this was the case, why the hacked accounts? Being a middle man is not illegal or even sketchy.
I don't get it. Somehow somewhere significant money is being exchanged, or there wouldn't be so many of these scams.

2024.05.21 22:40 Consistent_Fish_7658 PSNY is now on sale

Thanks to some incredible mismanagement, PSNY is on the edge of being delisted. The CEO, CFO and anyone else connected to this debacle needs to go, that much is clear.
BUT, what isn’t clear, what isn’t being talked about is how a company like Polestar can keep pumping out good cars that people actually want to buy. Their delivery numbers are better than a lot of their small competitors. They have a very unique advantage with having access to global markets (China but also abroad) thanks to their partnerships with Geely and Volvo, combined with manufacturing located outside of China. They are running ads and trying to make headway in North America. They are doing all of this, despite poor leadership. Can you imagine what they could achieve if they actually right the ship and push forward with a proper management team in place?
PSNY in my opinion is worth $2 a share in its current state, and could easily see north of $5 a share if the company can get their crap together and avoid this delisting nonsense. They are currently closing in on being 1/5 of Rivians market cap, despite putting up much better earnings numbers. (RIVN 4.9B rev, -5.7B operating income vs PSNY 2B rev, -1.3B operating income). Yes yes, there are many other ways to compare their numbers. I’m not going to fill 20 paragraphs with analysis here. The basic point is this: aside from being smaller, PSNY is better than RIVN from every angle numbers wise.
I am not saying RIVN is a bad company, I am saying they are finding success despite being run in a far riskier manner. Burning through cash, saddled with debt, and yet the market loves them. Are they going to have a hard year? Yeah, the whole sector is. But are they worth 5x what PSNY is worth? Not a chance. So either RIVN is wildly overvalued (it isn’t), or PSNY is trading at a steep discount due to short term issues.
To the point: PSNY will survive, and they will get their compliance forms filed. They will not be delisted. But, the stock is going to continue to get smacked around a bit with earnings on Thursday. It is currently shorted into oblivion, 8 dtc short interest and building. It is trading like it’s going out of business, and it’s not. Therefore, it is on sale, and the market is overreacting. I like the stock at $1, and I plan to buy more shares if it dips further in the short term. This is a unique company with a global reach, and Geely knows it, they will not allow this to fail or be delisted. See you all at $2 and beyond down the road :)

2024.05.21 22:39 Opening-Echidna222 Type me based on my life for past few years

2019: graduated from University with a gold medal, and i have an idea what I want to be in future, where I want to earn money and enjoy as many things as possible and live life in luxury so I started upskilling myself and applied to many jobs and attended job fairs but i failed in passing exams in every job and I never succeeded in any interview , I took each and every experience and started improving myself but i failed again and again. No matter how much I try there is so huge competition that I'm failing in every job openings . I am getting rejected by every company.
2020: COVID happened , no job openings and no job fairs to attend and stayed at home and became a shut in for 6 months all while watching animes, movies with whatever money I earned from part time jobs, friends and family. I thought I want to live like that forever (stupid me). In the later years i joined masters course from online as my father pressurized me by saying "do it , u r jobless, u r worthless scum, u are just a shut in who won't do anything" , I said "if I join masters in the institute u r recommending then this plan of urs will definitely fail as u already know it well, u don't have enough guys to allow to go far away places if in case COVID reduces" he said "when COVID reduces, just drop out of masters" I said "huh? Then y should I join?" He said "because I said so" . And everyone around me pressured me to join masters course and I joined the course because of pressures and it was completely online at the time , and I worked tirelessly to pass each semester.
2021: continuing masters, i put so much effort into my exams only to barely pass. Whereas , my classmates scored straight As . I was suprised , i was putting so much effort and why I couldn't be as good as them but I was chill cause I'm passing. I finally got assigned a project. I completed the project early even before final semester and I even published a research paper in a journal
2022: in final semester when the COVID decreased the institute which I enrolled masters insisted us to come. The institute was pretty far away from my place. And my dad never allowed me to go there and he never wanted me to lose the masters , I thought of making deal with professor as i already completed the project and even my research paper was published in journal and my professor said " even if u complete the project and passed in every exam I won't pass u in the project unless u come " I said " I can't come due to family issues" my professor "then u r unworthy to study " my dad raised a complaint and after hearing the complaint the whole institute accused me of defaming the institute honor and blackmailed me they will get cops involved in this and ruin my future and to solve this they demanded me to come there and do what they say. I said to them "whatever it is , i won't come there" and i am dropping out of the institute and i do t need any master's . I dropped out of the college and I said this to my dad he became angry and i bled him this was his mistake and told him "2 years ago I told u this will happen u and none listened to me now see there is 3 years gap in my career and no one will recruit me and 2 years ago when I was clean i failed everything now I have this remark of dropout and now none will recruit me, u do realise how fcked up competition really is in our country , if u r not competent u will be crushed" . A few months passed and i decided to leave the town and family. I found a minimum wage job out of the town and lived with one of my cousins, where I have to do maintenance of transformers and other electrical equipment. There i worked for 4 months and left it because my boss was too bossy and I don't want to work under him. I started working as another minum wage job and left it too because I can't stand bossy people there and also i slapped one of my colleague because he was misbehaving with me . One day, i was contemplating my own stupidity, professors stupidity and my father's stupidity are the reasons for this present life, and i decided to go in teaching field because I have already learned many technical skills and no one is hiring me now because of high competition and also 3 year gap with dropout tag on me, so teaching field has less competition and is very suited to my skills. So, i planned how to get into it, and went step by step so to gain some experience in teaching first I started working as a tutor, then I joined masters course again at a different institute with scholarship facility as I was a gold medalist from University during my undergraduation. I continued tutoring as a part time to earn money and working on masters on other hand
2023: I worked on my masters and passed through all semesters with above 8.5/10 GPA and worked on my project. The students that i tutored as a part time stood as strong as support to me. Their happiness after I teach them filled me with confidence that I can do many good things in life. Though I never admitted this to them because as a teacher I can't show weakness before them and I need to be strong. Also, my cousin who provided me shelter in times of need made me to be strong and not lose hope on myself.
2024: i completed my masters last march and I immediately joined as professor and this professor job is good that none bosses me around again and i am teaching students and my students are very interested in my lectures, as i already has experience in teaching. I kinda love this job , i don't live with minimum wage anymore and I am helping people with their studies and most importantly none bothers me as i myself earned quite a name regarding skills all thanks to the technical skills and subjects i learned back in 2019. My hardwork of that time was not wasted , instead the skills that i developed at the time are helping other people instead. Currently,i am planning on doing PhD maybe I will do it next year or some time later but presently I need to stabilize myself financially before i plan any further endeavour
That's it guys, I'm curious what u think my type is based on this
I know, I made many stupid decisions in my life , don't be harsh on me

2024.05.21 22:39 Thorny-Keys1620 California tax question. Xspurts?

I noticed something that seems odd in the simple CA tax form vs what I'm reading about the tax law in CA.
CA unemployment insurance payout is, from what i can find, not taxed by CA state. It is, however, federally taxed (which really sucks, imo).
So in completing federal tax forms, it's a part of the income that gets finally reduced to your "adjusted gross income" number.
The CA form asks for income and for deductions /taxes withheld, not counting the UI, but it asks for your federal form's line whatever "adjusted gross income" amount. Your final tax responsibility to CA is based on this number. The free online form at the CA tax board site will show you it's absolutely calculating on that federal AGI.
So CA is really calculating taxes due based on money that the IRS taxes but that CFTB says it's not taxing.
Am I misunderstanding something? I'm not a tax expert but this seems incorrect. I'm wondering if tax professionals know about this and if there's some other way we're supposed to report income that doesn't count what the IRS counts and CA shouldn't count.
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.21 22:37 SidledsGunnar FAQ

THE BASICS

Q. I've listened to today's album but why I can't rate it?
A. That's by design. You won't be able to submit your review and star rating until the next day's album is generated, around approximately 3AM GMT.
Q. Can I have more than one album per day generated?
A. No, the site was designed to be one per day. Some users have created a second or third project in order to have more than one a day.
Q. Who decided I needed to hear this album? Who created this list? Was this a user-submitted album?
A. The first 1089 albums you'll hear are taken from the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. The list was compiled by Robert Dimery, along with a team of music critics.
The user-submitted albums are optional (to submit and to listen to) only once you've finished the original 1089.
Q. 1089 albums... huh? I thought it was 1001?
A. There have been several editions of the book. Each time, some albums are removed in favour of newer albums. The generator includes any album as long as it was in at least one edition of the book. As of 2024, this is 1089 albums total.
Q. What happens if I don't visit the website for awhile?
A. Your account will pause automatically if you don't visit the site or rate an album for 5 days in a row. However, pressing the "Did Not Listen" button counts as activity, and your account will stay active.
You can also pause and unpause your account whenever you want from the Info tab in the menu.
Q. What happens if I push "Did Not Listen"? Will the album get generated for me later or is it lost forever?
A. Neither, it will be listed on your History page, where you can rate it any time.
Additionally, once you select "Did Not Listen," the next album will be generated.
Q. If I've already listened to some of the albums beforehand, can I mark them as complete so they won't be generated for me?
A. No, unfortunately there is no way to do that.
Q. Where can I see the entire list of albums?
A. The best way would be to support the book's creators and purchase a physical copy of the book. You can also visit this unofficial site but it hasn't been updated for the most recent edition of the book. This List Challenges quiz is currently the most up-to-date list online.
If you don't mind looking at some code, the generator's site map shows the full list as well.

CHANGES AND EDITS

Q. Can I change a rating or edit my review?
A. Not on your own on the site. DM with your project name and the rating you'd like changed.
Q. How can I shut off weekend albums?
A. DM your project name and ask him to do this.
Q. I originally decided to exclude a certain genre of music but I've changed my mind! How can I get it back?
A. DM your project name and ask him to do this.
Q. How can I show people my project?
A. Use the URL in your address bar after navigating to the Summary page from the main menu. It's advised not to give out the URL with your actual project name, as anyone will be able to go in and add reviews to anything you haven't rated yet, or delete any draft reviews you have.
Q. How can I reinstall the web app?
A. If you go to the browser's menu there is usually something like "Download" or "Install app." It's a Progressive Web App (PWA), so if you can't find it, Google "how to install pwa on [your browser]."

GROUPS

Q. How does it work going from an individual project to group?
A. If you are the creator of the group and your project already had more than 5 albums generated, there is a checkbox whether you want to include those albums in the group history or not.
By default this is not checked. This means that your group will "start over" and get all albums generated again. You'll get duplicates and you can rate them again. Your individual project history will have some albums twice, but the group page will only have them once.
If you did click that checkbox, then those albums will appear in the group history page. Those who join the group will then get an option to earn them into their history and catch up. You won't get any duplicates and the group will never get them generated.
Basically no matter how you created it, your family members won't miss out on any! It's just a matter of whether they have to catch up via a backlog or if you all want to listen to all albums as a group.
Q. How can I turn on weekend albums in my group?
A. DM your project name and ask him to do this.
Q. I'm in a group but can't rate the albums from the group page?
A. Correct, you rate albums from your own page. The group page is just for showing your groups stats (rating for each album, favourite genre, etc).

OTHER

Q. The streaming link was to an extended edition. Should I listen to the extra material?
A. Stick to the original unless you're in the mood for some extra stuff. Feel free to report it here and u/SidledsGunnar will change the link so it goes to the original version.
Q. What is the Controversial Artists section on my page all about?
A. These are artists whose albums you rated very differently. For example, if you loved Hunky Dory but hated Ziggy Stardust, David Bowie will show up as one of your controversial artists.
Q. What if I can't find an album to listen to it?
A. YouTube often has music missing from other streaming platforms. Otherwise, it's up to you. You can leave it unrated on your history page, or you can rate it and note you couldn't find it. So far, every single album has been tracked down by other users, though.
Q. Is there an API?
A. Yep, it's pretty basic, though. See it here.
Q. Who made this generator and how can I support it?
A. Reddit user u/SidledsGunnar created this and runs it on his own. If you'd like to contribute to help keep the site running, you have a few options: Patreon / Paypal / Ko-Fi / Bitcoin Wallet number: 3KVcBJpB2K1WcG5qu9rae822SxfgbQoPc8
You can also support u/SidledsGunnar by purchasing albums from the Rough Trade links on the site as he gets a small commission from each sale.

2024.05.21 22:35 Kat-is-sorry USA Method of “Winning”

Hey all, I figure I can provide some helpful guide for the US which I find always successful and useful to achieve global dominance to achieve a victory.
So, let’s get into why, then how.
Why : an easy way at capitulating the future problems and threats will ensure that your average player can figure out how combat works and all the intricate systems through victory. The biggest rivals at the moment include ; Russia, China, and their allies which is usually Iran, Syria, and North Korea.
How : to get started, you need to solve your economic issues, this is a stopper which prevents us from waging full scale war without suffering intense economic consequences and saves you from worse outcomes of the 2008 financial crisis, which is inevitable as the US.
First, get rid of the cartels, ensure Bush is elected and lower corruption to the minimum level. These three things ensure our victory. Electing Gore will result in minimal benefits, but we’re aiming at being able to tax citizens to keep up with costs of our military which also is paid for easier due to the benefits of Bush’s party in the code.
To get rid of the cartels, you need to keep clicking focuses to raid certain locations or capture people, it helps to time the end of the decision with the decisions which improve your chances of a successful raid, like military and police support, so be sure to select what you want to do, usually the highest chance of success decision, and pair that with whatever other decision of support to end at the same time.
At the same time, if possible, save political power and use it to lower corruption in the government screen, it takes a LOT of PP, so keep saving and you’ll be okay.
After the Cartel is done, Bush is elected (try to support him in the ideologies tab by also giving him a bit more support if you don’t believe he is going to win the election, a few times should help) and corruption is lowered, your economy should be much better!
Now, be sure to increase population tax in the screen for economy until you’re earning more than you’re losing. Last time I played I believe it was 30-40% pop tax.
War time!! - With that cleared out of the way, do NOT go down the focus tree for the “War on Terror”, this will result in heavy penalties with not a lot of benefit, usually you want to go down the middle where you get a lot of breathing room.
Declare war on Iraq, and send land and air volunteers to Afghanistan, and select the western puppet president when you win. Usually you want to send transport planes to Afghanistan, you do not get enough volunteers to send a decent air force, so this should suffice! I usually send one tank brigade (no need to make them, they are already created and deployed), and a special forces unit. If you don’t have enough room you can just send special forces, and let them chip away at the Taliban until you inevitably win.
Iraq is also easy, deploy a sufficient force of Marines, Special forces and tanks / infantry, I cannot remember the specific number, but roughly half of all of your units will be enough. Cover the area in air support and air superiority fighters and you will win within a year of declaring. Be sure to PUPPET Iraq so this raises world tension and allows you to be more war-mongery.
Next, the fun part begins. This is a long haul sometimes so be patient. Keep your influence on Ukraine and only Ukraine, it will eventually allow you to puppet Ukraine, which shares the biggest closest border with Russia, one of three major enemies. When your influence is high enough, more than 70 usually, keep pushing your political party on Ukraine, until it is over 60% I believe, then you can puppet Ukraine once your influence gains back what it loses from boosting ideology in Ukraine.
Once Ukraine is puppeted, station all or most of your army there. Use most of your mills to produce infantry goods, like Manpads, anti tank weapons, and IFVS. Also be sure to prioritize supply trucks. Planes are not insanely necessary, but keep a few mills on multirole and CAS planes, which you will lose fighting Russia.
Because Russia by the time you are done with this has provoked by attacking the donbass usually, you are free to declare war on them and make sure your offensive lines are aimed at the Ural mountains behind Moscow and at Kazakhstan, because they will continue fighting till then.
While this is all happening, keep building civs, they are the most cost-efficient building and get you the most income for your building.
After the war is over, puppet Russia, and that’s the strat, yep that’s it. In-between, a few funky things can happen, but are easy to deal with ; Iran declares war, Turkey attacks Syria. So be sure to use Iraq as a landing zone to attack them before Russia on some runs, and your game will go much smoother. China is pretty easy after, as well, you can station all your troops on north China and push.
Mods I play with : Millennium dawn and Player Peace Conferences.

2024.05.21 22:34 No-One7863 VHAI Seems Sketchy

I’m a frequent visitor and am a member of penneystocks. Just today VHAI has popped up on the radar and I think it is a stock that people should be weary of. It seems like another case of people trying to pump it up because it’s a low cost penny stock.
The reason I think it is sketchy is because of a few reasons. The first one being there is not a lot of info on it like earning for share, PE ratio, and even on my app there is no market cap. I dug a little bit into it on Google through yahoo finance and a couple other sites and it’s basically the same thing.
Second is that I have never heard of BATS, the exchange it is on. I don’t really go away from the main ones like NYSE, NASDAQ, TSX and TSV-X. To me that seems sketchy. But it could just be that I don’t look beyond the normal ones I use. I know the company itself is not good based on its finances.
On Penny stocks, there was a guy that bought a few thousand shares and had no clue what the company was about and bought simply because someone said it was going to pop. Then that same redditor made a post that people should get in on this stock. Simply a case of pumping. I asked the OP on a another thread why he thought it was gonna pop as he said the same thing. They couldn’t really give me a straight answer and said it was the short squeeze, but the short interest according to yahoo finance is only 3.24%, which is not enough to cause a short squeeze.
Just beware people, the reason I started this Reddit community was to spread awareness and have peoples best interest in mind. I wouldn’t tell anyone on here to buy a stock simply because I thought it was gonna pop. I just like getting info about stocks and spreading awareness on here.

2024.05.21 22:31 Icy-Gazelle5462 Will I face any legal consequences?

I recently arrived as a student in Germany from South Asia. I was desperately looking for a job but couldn't find any due to language barrier. Then, I came upon a so called job where I could earn about €200 after depositing €100 and doing some simple tasks. I did this for 2 days and received the money too and then it dawned upon me that I could get into legal trouble for receiving money from unknown accounts. So, I stopped doing it. Will I face any legal consequences or should I do something about this?

2024.05.21 22:30 redditmaxima Udio behaves as dating service, try to look at everything under this angle

A common feature of almost all dating services is their business strategy: keeping users on the app as long as possible by getting them hooked on the dopamine needle of expecting to meet someone new and, potentially, find a soul mate.
As long as people are using the app, the developers get revenue, and if people find each other and delete accounts, the company loses money.
The main metric of services is not the number of real couples created or at least second dates, but the time spent by the user in the service, the number of logins, likes, mates and messages.
With this business model, it is more profitable for services to hinder the search in order to keep people longer, show more attractive profiles for money, and never show the best candidates to form real couple.
As a result, the services do not provide a search for a partner, but a feeling of choice, anticipation, an exciting game and an opportunity to feel in demand and attractive.
But somehow people find great couples on such sites, don't they? Of course! Happy accidents happen, no matter what.
Udio is similar to early dating sites. They also have dopamine needle - you want to make your song as you want, make it finished product and share it. And we already see it slowly starting to optimize their profits making you to spend more time and generate mote of "almost but not yet" generations.

A 23-year-old Taiwanese citizen has been arrested in the USA as the administrator of the dark web marketplace Incognito Market. The platform's turnover is estimated at $100 million in cryptocurrency.
The individual, who launched the site as a student, was detained at New York airport. According to the charges, he had been running the marketplace since its inception in October 2020. The primary goods sold on the platform were narcotics, including fentanyl. The administrator faces multiple criminal charges, including operating a criminal enterprise, money laundering, and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. If convicted on all counts, he could face life imprisonment.
Transactions on the platform were conducted using Bitcoin and Monero cryptocurrencies. The amount of confiscated crypto assets has not been disclosed.
In March, Incognito Market shut down, absconding with all the sellers' funds. Before the closure, the administrator demanded $20,000 in cryptocurrency from the sellers under the threat of publishing their transaction data.

What differences would I notice between a MacBook Pro with an M3 chip vs an M2 Pro chip? Assuming 24 GB RAM and a 1 TB hard drive for both machines. I'm a professional photographer, but money is limited. I'm thinking to buy from the Apple Refurb site.
Also, are prices likely to drop (or more refurb deals appear) after WWDC24?

2024.05.21 22:22 lilmalchek Got fired, the reason was a lie, and now they’re ghosting me. What can I do?

I was a product designer for an edtech company for over 4 years. The last year and a half has been absolutely horrible - the small product team lost the other product designer, both PMs, and many of the leadership positions including vp of product. The replacement head of product had no experience in tech, but lots of experience in academia (perhaps this should have been a huge red flag). So this person became my manager, as well as the manager of the 2 new PMs.
In the year this new person was manager: -it became clear they had no idea how to manage a designer, or provide feedback, or provide a path for growth - they told me there was no money to backfill the other designer position, or to give me a raise or promotion, but then proceeded to promote 5 engineers and hire two new ones. - they spent weeks coming up with a new business model and product idea that, once work began, was micro managed and turbulent (with regular pauses because company leadership wasn’t aligned) - they literally wouldn’t let us do any sort of research or testing, which caused a lot of friction and definitely got heated a few times - they had no idea what design actually is and constantly asked me to add some delight, while keeping me from getting hints in my job description - they regularly assured me I was doing great, especially every time so brought up the stress I was under, my mental health, and the unsubstianbke pace of design work they asked of me (yet which I continuously met) -they presented constant roadblocks not just to me but to the pm and head engineer as the 3 of us tried to figure out how to try and deliver what they wanted without relying on only assumptions and guesses. -they acted as if they knew everything about how product and design work, and ben though they had no experience. Me, the PM and the head engineer regularly struggled with how to work around or steer them so that we could just do the bare minimum of our jobs. Eventually, the PM and engineer stopped pushing back so much, as we all lost morale and just wanted to get though this huge project /new product release. - they terminated my employment without warning after I delivered the final major piece of the new product (after which I was going on vacation to get married and rest, and then things could slow down, I was assured.)
The kicker is that the reason used was for sharing proprietary information on my portfolio. They said I had the new product on my site. I have proof I didn’t but they pushed back and provided no opportunity ro explain or even ask questions.
It’s clear my incompetent manager got tired of me pushing back, but it burns they lied about the reason and went nuclear without any prior warning. I was honestly flabbergasted. I’ve gotten help from a lawyer friend who has sent one letter but it’s been silent. We’re going to try one more but at this point I feel like this whole system is in their favor and I guess I just needed to vent as I prepare for the possibility that nothing will come from this - no justice or even just.. treating me like a person.
I guess I shouldn’t expect any different after the way I was treated the past year.
I’m really not sure what I’m going to accomplish with posting this. I’m just feeling kinda bitter and hopeless about it all… But if anyone has a similar experience to share, or advice/thoughts, or just a way I can get past this… please share!
Thanks everyone.

2024.05.21 22:22 mampersandb is it helpful to return hoopla books early vs automatically?

a different post got me thinking about this - whenever i borrow something from hoopla and finish it, i just leave it sitting there and let it return automatically. i figured since there's an unlimited number of copies on hoopla (according to my library's site), this doesn't matter unlike libby where there's a set number of "copies" to lend out & i would assume it's helpful for other users to return it as soon as you're done.
am i assuming right? or is there an advantage to me returning the book immediately upon finishing like saving the library money or increasing the times it can be taken out or something?
