I came up with this motorized gyroscope concept, for stability, and integrated it with an intricate pulley system for muscular functions as well as orientation-based stability in combination with the gyroscope.
I am including images of the conceptual blueprint, and an image of the finalized concept.
Any pointers?

2024.05.21 18:00 Cautious-Salad Stirling Engine Magnetic Version: Free Energy Potential

Stirling Engine Magnetic Version: Free Energy Potential
The Stirling Engine, a marvel of 1816, harnessed the principles of thermodynamics to convert heat energy into mechanical work. Traditionally, it utilized a burner to heat a cylinder chamber, causing expansion of the air inside and driving a piston. This cycle was complemented by a cooling phase, where cooler air helped reset the piston, enabling continuous motion. Over the years, this fundamental design has evolved into various sophisticated forms. Among the most intriguing modern adaptations is the magnetic Stirling Engine, which substitutes the thermal dynamics with magnetic forces, thereby offering the promise of a 'free energy' generator.
Stirling Engine magnetic version - Free energy

From Heat to Magnetism: A Paradigm Shift

The magnetic Stirling Engine represents a significant departure from its thermally-driven predecessors. Instead of relying on a temperature gradient to drive the piston, this version utilizes the attraction and repulsion forces between magnets. In essence, the magnetic field creates the push and pull dynamics required to move the piston, mimicking the heating and cooling cycles of the traditional Stirling Engine.
Experts suggest that while the magnetic engine will cease operation once the magnets lose their magnetism, high-quality permanent magnets can sustain their magnetic properties for many years, providing a long-lasting source of energy. This intriguing possibility opens up the debate on whether such an engine could be considered a form of 'free energy', operating without the continuous input of fuel or heat.

The Mechanics of the Magnetic Stirling Engine

To delve deeper into the mechanics, consider a hands-on tutorial that demonstrates the construction of this magnetic engine. The tutorial outlines the creation of a piston-cylinder setup where magnetic forces replace thermal processes. Critical to this setup is the precise alignment of the magnetic phases, typically set 90 degrees apart, to ensure that the push and pull forces alternate seamlessly.
Instructional video: Practical Guide: Free Energy Stirling Generator - Magnetic field version
The video tutorial covers the necessary equipment and tools, including small generators or brushless DC motors, LED lights for demonstration, actuators, and medical-grade cylinders and pistons. These components come together to illustrate how magnetic forces can be harnessed to produce mechanical motion, providing a practical guide to building a magnetic Stirling Engine.

Evaluating the Potential of Free Energy

The concept of free energy, often surrounded by skepticism, finds a potential ally in the magnetic Stirling Engine. If such an engine can operate indefinitely or for an extended period without fuel, it aligns with the ideals of free energy—an inexhaustible, low-cost energy source. However, the term 'free energy' must be critically examined. The initial construction and the quality of magnets are crucial factors that influence the engine's efficiency and longevity.
Moreover, while the magnetic Stirling Engine shows promise, it is essential to consider the physical limits and eventual degradation of magnetic materials. Despite these concerns, the prospect of a low-maintenance, long-lasting engine driven by magnetism is a compelling development in the quest for sustainable energy solutions.
The evolution of the Stirling Engine from a heat-based mechanism to a magnetic-driven system exemplifies the innovative strides in energy generation technologies. By leveraging magnetic forces, the magnetic Stirling Engine offers a fascinating approach to achieving continuous motion without the constant input of heat or fuel. While it may not be the elusive 'perpetual motion machine', its potential to provide a reliable and long-lasting energy source warrants further exploration and development.
For those interested in the broader spectrum of free energy generators, the article "Stirling Engine and Free Energy Generators" on the KINETIC POWER SYSTEM Blog provides a comprehensive overview, highlighting the diverse and creative approaches to harnessing energy sustainably. As technology advances, the magnetic Stirling Engine could play a significant role in the future of energy innovation.
Generating electricity using ancient technology (more than 100 years old) has been suppressed by technology monopolies:
  • Mechanical configurations and circuit diagrams are like a solution to the IQ puzzle of classical physics. It involves thinking beyond the dogma of science and the primitivism of Newtonian billiard ball physics.
  • Electricity is generated from devices as small as rabbits, which then charge multiple batteries and feed into an inverter to produce AC current (60Hz; 220V/110V). Electricity is continuously generated throughout the day and week (24/7) and up to years. This device, with a diagram as small as a rabbit, serves as a solution to an IQ puzzle when considering classical mechanical physics and Overunity electronic circuits.
  • If you understand the nature of the problem from that solution, then you can create a large generator for an entire business! Therefore, the design must be modest; otherwise, it will create a conflict of interest with energy corporations: 👉 Unlimited Power Generator

2024.05.21 17:54 sparkyvision What horse's ass at Maytag / Kitchenaid decided that the "Microfiltration wash system" filter should be buried and inaccessible?

Model: Kitchenaid KDPM604KPS0
Error: E1F9
After cleaning out the tub of some grime, I noticed some food buildup on the water inlet assembly on the side. I dissolved that with some Drain-O, because there was nothing that could fit into the small plastic "water maze". That didn't fix the error, so I finally resorted to taking off the entire drain and sump assembly and removing the microfiltration system. Despite their claims that the water is "continuously filtered", do you suppose the filter might have been gummed up? Oh yes.

Dishwashers have a lot of crud that go through them. Their internal testing should have shown that buildup of food was a definite possibility. I had to pull the entire dishwasher out, flip it on its back, and find the service manual to disassemble and remove the entire goddamn sump and drain assembly, then disassembled that to get at the filter, for which there is no manual, or assembly diagram, or any such thing. Hopefully I put it back together the way it was intended.

Fuck you, KitchenAid. Make your shit easier to repair.
For anyone else coming after me, if you're getting the E1F9 error (tub drain error) and no obvious obstruction, it's very possible your microfilter is all gummed up. I found the service manual here.
[Edit: I do indeed regularly run Afresh packets through the dishwasher to clean it out.]

2024.05.21 16:54 CDown01 Eagles Peak Pt.6

Previous Part
At some Point Bianca and I both fell back asleep. It was all I could do at this point, getting whisked away back to those mines seemed inevitable so I might as well sleep. The morning did not go well, largely due to Bianca, who threw me off the couch with a scream when she woke up.
“What’re you doing!”
Bianca squeaked, hand darting towards her pants pocket where her dagger would usually be. I woke up very quickly somewhere between the couch and the floor. I was fully awake by the time I was pushing myself back to me feet, raising my hands in a gesture of surrender.
“What’s going on?! You’re fine you just fell asleep on my couch!”
“Why were you… why was I?”
“Hey, calm down alright. We had a few drinks last night and I guess we both fell asleep on the couch together, that’s all that happened.”
I explained, leaving out the part where she pulled me back when I tried to go to my own room earlier.
“Yeah… yeah ok. Ugh my head is killing me.”
Bianca groaned, taking a breath or two then putting her head in her hands. I didn’t have the heart to tell her she was probably hungover so I just went to the kitchen to make something for her.
I decided on toast and some bananas, it was always a go to for me after a long night. In hindsight I probably should’ve seen her reaction coming. Look at what she did in the caves because that guy grabbed her, it can’t be that much better waking up on someones shoulder and not quite remembering it. The whole thing did give me second thoughts though. If she was such a live wire did I really want her stressing out over the trials and whatever that would bring? I suppose it was too late for that though, she’d already moved herself into my house so she could keep watch, for all the good that did seeing as Shaoni waltzed right in last night.
I still had a lot on my mind when the smell of burning toast sobered me up. I swore and ran over to salvage what I could of the blackening toast.
“What’s burning in here?”
Bianca asked a little worry creeping into her voice. She still had her head clasped firmly between her hands as she walked into the kitchen.
“Breakfast”
I replied flatly, holding my arms out to either side gesturing to the mild chaos I was causing. Bianca gave me an questioning, “thanks” and grabbed the plate I had made for her while I tried to think of what to do next. Like it or not, Shaoni had people coming to pick me up and take me back out to those caves today. I had to come up with some kind of game plan and right now, it seemed letting Frank and Stein know was the best idea.
Bianca stayed back at my place nursing her hangover when I left to visit the mad scientist duo. I had no problem with that, in fact it was probably best because I’m sure she would’ve insisted on going with me if she heard I planed to take Shaoni’s “invitation”. I wasn’t sure if Shaoni would let me take Bianca with me and personally I’d rather not push her buttons and try to negotiate bringing a plus one.
“Have you seen Bianca at all?”
Frank asked hurriedly as I came in. I was afraid of this, She hadn’t told them anything and just disappeared.
“Yeah, she pretty much moved the contents of her room to my couch yesterday. Something about keeping an eye on me, she’s fine though, I wouldn’t worry.”
I answered, a little worried myself that I’d catch hell from them if they knew she was currently working her way through her first hangover on that same couch. Frank seemed to calm down at that and finally got to asking the important questions like why was I back in the house… again.
“So let us get this straight, you just plan to go right to Shaoni?”
Frank and Stein said together in disbelief as the three of us sat at the kitchen table.
“It’s not like I really have a choice in the matter, besides I can’t really fight her if she wants me to go somewhere. If I try a stunt like that things go from bad to worse for me.”
They both shook their heads in solemn agreement, recognizing I was right.
“Anyways, I had a thought on the way over here, Thunderbirds are something from native American legend right? Well, if we’ve found a real one wouldn’t she have ties to a tribe or something in the area? She was sleeping here when they woke her up in the mine, maybe there was a reason for that, maybe she was close to home?”
I explained, hoping g they’d catch on to what I was asking.
“What exactly are you getting at then Keith?”
Frank questioned, furrowing his brow with an intrigued look on his face. Stein just remained silent but I could tell he was thinking, maybe even coming to the same conclusion as I had.
“What I’m thinking, is we check reservations in the area. Maybe they know something about the creature from their legends that just so happened to be sleeping nearby. I know it’s a stretch but maybe we could learn something useful. I’d go myself but I’m not going to have the chance. You guys though, you guys could take Bianca and Rocco with you and ask around.”
I explained, hoping I was onto something. I was pulling at straws but it was the best idea I had at a moments notice. Plus it would get Bianca out of town for a little while when I was figuring out what exactly Shaoni’s trails would mean for me.
“Keith that’s… no that actually makes sense let me check some maps.”
Stein agreed, walking away and into the basement. He came back a few minutes later with a map in his hand.
“There’s a Seneca reservation not to far from here, maybe 30 miles. That’s not the only one but I have a friend there from years ago, someone I helped. There’s a good chance he’d be willing to return the favor.”
“Great, then I’ll count on you. I’ll let Bianca know, I’m sure she won’t be happy about it but I’ll feel better if she’s with all of you.”
I walked out in a rush to get back home, almost stepping on Rocco on my way to the door. He made a frightening chittering hissing sound at me as he leapt out of my path. I briefly wondered where he was going and what he was up to, probably better I didn’t know though. As I got onto the bike and headed back towards home I hoped I’d be able to talk Bianca into going along with this plan. I was sure she’d rather come with me but after this morning I wasn’t sure she was ready for that. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure she wants to help and I know she means well but she’s jumpy and snaps at the littlest things. I didn’t want her to make things worse by accident or get hurt because she froze up again. My mind was made up as I drew nearer to my house but as it turned out I’d never have the chance to talk to Bianca. As soon as I rounded the corner I saw the rusty pick up waiting in front of my house, I’d arrived just in time to meet Shaoni’s “helpers”.
The men looked normal, just like the people in the cave. Come to think of it they could very well be those same people. I waved them over as I came to a stop in-front of the house.
“Can I just go in and grab a few things?”
I asked the three men sheepishly as I walked up.
“No, your late as it is, we’ve got to get going.”
A scruffy looking man with a gruff voice said from the drivers seat. Two men got out from the back of the truck and grabbed my arms, pulling me into the back seat. They weren’t rough with me but they were very firm. Like they wanted to hurt me but were ordered not to so they just made a show of force. After I was loaded into the back I saw the reason for their demeanor. One of the men, the one in the front passenger seat, was wrapped in bandages. The bandages covered his abdomen and snaked up around the back of his neck. It was pretty obvious to me that this was the man Bianca had stabbed. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say these four were probably the same ones we had encountered in the cave. As I turned and looked out the window I saw Bianca’s face peaking out of it. She looked angry and scared, like she knew exactly what was happening but she didn’t move. Bianca just sat there, watching me be taken away and I cursed myself for not being just a little bit faster on the ride back.
We took a way out of town I’d never seen before, turning away from the road leading to the dirt path we had biked down on our expedition into the forest. Instead we drove back through town, past Bianca’s house and the Eagle’s Roost before hanging a right onto a road I’d never been down. Eventually the road made its way into the forest and ended at a wooden sign warning that the road was impassable ahead. The driver stopped the truck and got out as another man emerged from the woods, holding up his hand and opening it to reveal the eagle tattoo I’d become so familiar with. The driver rolled up his sleeve and showed his own similar tattoo. Without a word he got back into the truck and the other man moved the sign off the road. It didn’t fill me with confidence to see the entrance to this place watched in such a way. It would make sense to have it hidden but being so brazenly out in the open meant they didn't really care who saw it. Not that anyone would think anything other than that the road was impassable but still. The truck eventually pulled off the road and into the woods, following a newly made track that lead to the entrance of the old mine that we escaped from just 2 days ago.
“I think you know your way in.”
The driver growled at me, parking the truck and signaling me to step out.
“Your just letting me walk myself in? Couldn’t I just run?”
“You could but do you think you could outrun her?”
He asked threateningly, pointing up at the sky. I knew exactly who he was talking about and no, I didn’t like my chances of running from Shaoni.
“She gave us all orders to leave any runners to her.”
At that moment I decided it may be good idea to be on my best behavior.
“Yeah that’s what I thought.”
The driver barked back at me as I obediently walked towards the entrance.
Walking into the mine I realized it had undergone a huge transformation in a very short time. The walls were now host to several torches that lit the pathway back down to the coliseum. It felt like I was walking into the dark ages as I made my way down into this pit by torchlight. Although I had to admit it was homey in an “evil layer” kind off way. The coliseum was lit up with torchlight as well but its not what drew my attention. Where the awful metal structure met the stone roof of the cave I looked into a brewing storm. Lightning flashed across the roof but there was no sound of thunder. Raindrops shown in the shadows cast by the lightning but I felt none of them on my skin. I had to admit, it was a pretty impressive trick. Paintings adorned the walls, all of them seeming to be tribal in nature. Many seemed to be various depictions of the thunderbird.
“Well at least she doesn’t have an ego”
I chuckled to myself as I walked into the center off the coliseum.
There were four other people waiting in the center of the floor. A clean shaven, well dressed man relaxed against the wall of the arena. He had perfectly trimmed slicked back blonde hair and a chiseled face. His rippling muscles seemed to be for vanity rather than strength. Just by looking at him I could tell I wasn’t going to like him. The only one of the bunch I knew, Robert, stood on the far side of the coliseum, watching me approach. He looked about the same as he had from the brief glance I got at the Eagle’s Roost. Balding white hair and a unkempt beard hung off his sagging face. Despite his age he carried himself with purpose, like he deserved to be there and wanted everyone else to know it. Then there was the blonde bombshell that was making her way towards the chiseled blonde guy. She seemed incredibly confident in herself but none of it was a show. Her confidence came from a place that made her absolutely sure of it. The final person stood in the corner and seemed to be talking to himself. He was a middle aged man of native American descent with a mess of black hair atop his head. He carried a look in his eyes that spoke of wisdom beyond his years.
I walked past all of them and took a seat on the floor, trying my hardest to ignore them. The effort was ultimately wasted as the muscular blonde guy walked over and held out a hand.
“Hey, my names Brooke, you are?”
My blood turned to ice as he said that, it couldn’t be the same Brooke Bianca told me about, could it? I stared dumbly at him for a moment before I responded.
“I’m… uh… Keith. Any idea what we’re doing here?”
“No clue, only know that the thunderbird wanted us here so we came. Hopefully she makes good on her promise, to me at least.”
His voice sounded like the “to cool for you” bully from any 80’s movie, it was almost annoying to listen to him.
“So you’ve met everyone else I take it?”
“Yeah, the weird guy in the corner is John, we don’t know much about him but apparently him and that Robert guy, the old one with the beard, worked for the thunderbird. Katrina, that beauty over there is a wild card, no-one seems to know anything about her but she looks like she’s hot shit and well, just plain hot.”
As Brooke gave me the run down of everyone in the room I quietly wondered to myself if Shaoni had given everyone the same offer as me. The way Brooke had said it, “promise”… that wasn’t how I would’ve phrased it. Maybe Shaoni cut everyone here a unique deal.
“…Anyways, I’m gonna go see if I can’t figure out that bombshell’s deal, I’ll see ya later Keith.”
Apparently Brooke had been talking to me the whole time but I only tuned in for the tail end of it as he walked off toward Katrina. I wondered where exactly Shaoni was, I had expected her to be here already but, as it turned out I wouldn’t have to wait long.
A thunderous boom cracked out above our heads and we all looked up at once, but the sound was coming from outside. I heard the flap of wings as Shaoni came in for a landing somewhere above our heads. It went so silent we could’ve heard a mosquito cough, then Shaoni stepped into the room. Not from either entrance but from a balcony above us I hadn’t seen before. She was wearing the same thing she had been when I ran into her in the cave, once again looking like a hardened, tattooed Pocahontas.
“Welcome everyone! I take it you’ve gotten to know each other?”
She thundered down to us as we all shot to attention.
“I’ve gathered you here to give a gift to one of you, but you must prove yourselves deserving. I’ve told some of you what I intended to do here and others may be hearing it for the first time. So for those of you who are gathering here for the first time pay attention. There will be three trials held here, one to test your morals, one to test your strength, and one to test your judgement.”
At this point Brooke spoke up in the way only a spoiled little shit like him could.
“You made me a promise! You never said anything about trials! I got all the way out here to this shitty little backwater and now your telling me I’ve got to compete to earn what you owe me?! Sorry, but I’m going to need more than that.”
Shaoni looked like she could’ve ended him right there. She was the judge and jury here, if Brooke wasn’t careful she’d become the executioner too.
“What you asked me for is in this town, that’s all I will say on the matter.”
Shaoni responded with less venom than I had expected judging by her expression. She didn’t actually seem to care that she had to tell him something to shut him up. It was the insult of being interrupted that struck a nerve. I was a little concerned by what she said, if he was looking for something that was in town and Bianca was there… could he be looking for her? “…Today though, just enjoy the company of one another. You’re all welcome to stay here at the camp I’ve had prepared for you outside. If you wish to return to town you may but you will be watched. No-one is to leave town until the trials are completed.”
Shaoni finished, I hadn’t really been listening to her welcome speech. She said everything I cared about when she told us what the trials where going to test for, after that I kind of tuned out. Shaoni disappeared in a flash, just like she had back at my house the day before and with that the five of us were alone again. I left, heading back outside to see this camp she mentioned. The others talked with each other but I really had no desire to. That didn’t stop Robert from running to catch up with me, wheezing when he got there.
“Hey you’re the one who ran out of the bar the other night! She’s said a lot about you, I’d almost think she had a favorite.”
Robert huffed out between breaths, punching me in the arm in a friendly but wholly unwelcome way.
“I’ve heard you know nothing about the supernatural, I’d be happy to tell you what I’ve seen working with Shaoni.”
Robert offered, fishing for any reason to hold a conversation with me.
“No, that’s alright really, I’ll manage. What do you guys do anyways, working for her I mean? I get the sense she could really run this whole operation on her own if she wanted.”
“She probably could do this alone. Most of the time we don’t work directly with her, this is a special case for those of us she’s got helping with the trials. There’s maybe 50 of us total and not just here, I mean 50 of us overall. She’s very selective with the followers she keeps so there isn’t many of us. We tend to sit around up-holding her ideals till she asks something of us through dreams, like the ones that brought you here.”
Robert explained, confusing me a little bit. I found it hard to believe a crew of 50 people got everything here done. I guess it wasn’t to outlandish when put in perspective though. If you told me Shaoni got all this done herself I probably would’ve believed you so 50 people organized by her, yeah I could see that.
“Wait, so you guys barley ever actually work with her, and what are her ideals exactly?”
“Have you heard the legends of the thunderbird? A lot of it depicts the thunderbird as a spirit of justice that fights evil spirits from the underworld, that’s really watered down but you get the point. I’ve never seen her do anything like that but she does uphold a certain sense of justice and that’s what she expects of us. Sure, she seems really intimidating but she wants to right wrongs that no one else will, it makes her a little harsh but she has to be. We just do that same thing when we aren’t getting orders right from her. Maybe you think she’s in the wrong here because she pulled you into this but we really want to help, sometimes there’s a price for that.”
Robert lectured, you could tell he really believed in what he was saying though. He may have been older but when he was telling me about the thunderbird and what she stood for he was filled with vigor again. Maybe he’s not as bad as I thought, I wanted all these people working for her to be some kind of weird cult like in Imalone. The more I heard the more I doubted that. They were people who followed her for a reason, not just because she gave them some kind of power. In reality I think what she really gave them was purpose. That sort of thing is more than enough for most people to follow someone.
When I broke away from Robert and got outside I found a huge camp had been set up while we were in the cave. Tepees of various sizes had been constructed all around the entrance to the old mine and one big canvas tent had a huge table running through it filled with food. For 50 people these followers of the thunderbird sure worked fast. I hadn’t decided if I wanted to go back to town yet. I hoped Frank and Stein had convinced Bianca to go with them, at least then they could get some answers while I was stuck here. If they were gone though what reason did I have to go back? As long as I was out here surrounded by people who work with Shaoni maybe I could get some answers of my own. I wasn’t really sure what information about Shaoni would do for us but she was a mystery to me. Everyone was here for a reason, I agreed to take on a burden, Brooke was here because of some promise Shaoni made, and I’m sure the rest had similar stories. Shaoni gained nothing from any of that though, besides this burden I had agreed to take. I’m not sure why, but it felt like figuring out what She stood to gain from this was important. If I could do that maybe I could put the pieces to this puzzle together. Two people had pointed out I knew nothing about the supernatural as well, Shaoni and Robert. That didn’t seem to matter to much to me but if all the others here had some experience in it maybe it should. It seemed like we were all on a level playing field though, Brooke hadn’t heard about the trials and neither had I. Robert and that strange John guy probably had some idea but they worked with Shaoni, I would expect them to know. Katrina, the blonde was probably just as surprised as Brooke, if I had to guess. None of us knew exactly what the trials would test for, so why did everyone keep brining up not knowing about the supernatural like it put me at a disadvantage?
“Why indeed.”
A familiar voice said, sending lightning through my veins and breaking my train of thought. I just about tossed the turkey leg I’d been eating directly at the source of the noise.
“Shaoni, you have got to stop doing that.”
I said, crawling back into my skin after she scared me out of it. Shaoni still looked just as she had when she addressed us earlier, adorned in her animal skins and feathers. It took me a second but it finally clicked that she had said something strange when she sat down next to me.
“Hang on a minute, can you read my mind? Was I thinking out loud or something?”
“No, you just looked lost in thought and I figured I’d chime in.”
“Oh, alright… why?”
I squeaked out, abruptly realizing that this was Shaoni, the thunderbird who was sitting next to me. There was a second there where I wasn’t as intimidated by her as I normally was but it had passed quickly.
“I wanted to know how your doing, I know all this can’t be easy to take in.”
“I’m doing fine, I think I’m adjusting pretty well but I did want to ask you some questions.”
An amused look ran across Shaoni’s face at this. She wasn’t being as commanding as before either, she almost seemed to genuinely care about my well-being.
“Would you walk with me, I’ll answer your questions on the way.”
Shaoni asked, standing and waiting for me to follow her. Not seeing any better options I stood up and left alongside her.
We walked around the perimeter of the camp, out of ear shot of anyone else. I’m sure she did that on purpose, though I wasn’t sure if it was so no-one could hear my screams if I asked a question she didn’t like or if she just wanted privacy.
“Why me Shaoni? Why chose me out of everyone, was it just a coincidence?”
“Straight to the point hmm. Think Keith, when I found you in the position you were in you needed my help. Sure, I planned to dispose of the cultists that were threatening you anyways but I stopped to help you. You saw me descend from the sky, swoop down, and bring them to their knees, I extended an offer to you and you just took it. You didn’t bargain or ask for anything more after I shattered your perception of what does and doesn’t exist, just accepted my offer. Most people would have bargained, tried to look for a better deal for themselves but you saw what the price of my help would be and paid it, no second thoughts. That interested me Keith, you recognized what had to be done and didn’t try to avoid the cost, that’s why I chose you.”
“So I appealed to whatever sense of justice you have? That’s it, that’s the only reason?”
She looked almost hurt as I asked this and she stopped walking. I definitely stepped on a nerve, I expected her to snap but she didn’t, She just asked very quietly,
“Do you think I’m a monster Keith?”
I was stunned by the question. Could I really say she was a monster? What had she done so far? Save me, that’s what, was that really so monstrous? Sure it may have come at a cost but nothing is ever free. Shaoni even came to warn me about the trials ahead of time, just barely ahead of time but it was something.
“No Shaoni, you’re not a monster just… someone with the powers you have… it’s terrifying for a normal person. Can you really say I’m in the wrong for being afraid of you?”
Even as I said it I knew it was a lie, at least partially. I wasn’t just afraid of her, I wanted her to be evil and she just wasn’t, not really. Maybe she was a bit intense but everything she had done to me so far couldn’t be called evil.
“Fear is only natural when you see something like me, but I’m not a monster. The thunderbird has always stood for justice. That’s what I represent, I can’t be everywhere but I make it a point to uphold justice where I am. Those who I’ve chosen to follow me hold my justice in their own town, in their own lives. I can be harsh but I am just.”
She said this with such intensity I had no choice but to believe her. Her conviction to justice was zealous but I still wanted to pry a little bit more.
“So what does justice mean to you then? I don’t mean to be disrespectful but I want to hear it from you,”
I asked, growing a little more confident in talking to Shaoni. For once I didn’t feel like she would kill me on a whim. Give her a reason, and Shaoni would do it without a second thought but I don’t think she cared that much about my questioning.
“Justice is black and white, right and wrong. Normally there’s a pretty good system in place to punish those that deserve it but sometimes things slip through the cracks, that’s where I come in. I take care of the heinous acts people get away with, people that think they’ve gotten away with murder, so to speak.”
“So your a vigilante then? That’s what I’m hearing here.”
“I wouldn’t be so crass but yes, I suppose you could call me a vigilante but I promise you that’s an oversimplification. Suffice it to say my opinion on matters of serving justice is respected.”
Shaoni seemed a little uncomfortable at the word “respect”, I think a better word would’ve been “feared”. I wasn’t going to say it to her but I knew she suspected it. I could see something about that really hurt her. I couldn’t put my finger on it, the reason Shaoni didn’t want to be feared. Despite being the scariest thing I’d seen so far she didn’t want to be known for that.
We talked for a while longer about a whole lot of nothing. Eventually we got back around to the camp and she bid me goodnight despite the fact it was 3 in the afternoon at the time. She was probably right though, I was going to need the rest if I wanted to be ready for the first trial tomorrow. I found my way to a tepee conveniently marked with my name. I didn’t remember it being marked before and I didn’t understand the point of giving us specific tepees, privacy I guess? The fur sleeping bag was a rustic but welcome touch and despite lacking the amenities of a usual home the tepee was quite comfortable. As I settled in for the night I heard a rustling on the far side of the tepee, then a voice, one whose heavy accent I recognized immediately.
“So, turns out they don’t check under the truck. Ya got me here with you now.”
Rocco said, emerging from a blanket in the corner. That revelation didn’t exactly set my mind at ease. Rocco must’ve sensed my apprehension to the fact that he was anywhere near me right now.
“What?! I’m here to help out! I heard you going on about a trial or somethin’ so I figured I’d tag along under that truck when they picked you up, can’t have enough back up ya know.”
He continued, pulling a belt with several tools out from under the blanket as he spoke. I wasn’t pleased to have him here but maybe I could make use of him.
“I was hoping you’d go with Bianca and the other two but honestly, it might be nice to have a friendly face around here. Just… try to stay out of trouble.”
“Trouble? When do I ever get into trouble?”
I hoped he was being sarcastic, you can never tell with him. I bit my tongue as Rocco walked out into the camp, silently praying no-one would see him. With that I settled into my sleeping bag and tried to think of what I could expect from the first trial tomorrow.

PVB Overflowing When Irrigation Valve Opens
Hi there, I couldn’t figure out how to add this video to previous post.
Basically my PVB valve that has irrigation valves downstream intermittently overflows when valve initialized. The PVB is mounted 15” above tallest sprinkler when in “up” position.
Only unconventional aspect of this install is that this line is coming off hose bib in backyard (downstream of other house faucets/connections).
I’ve flushed the PVB as well as took it apart to inspect/clean. Nothing fouled/broken from what I saw.
I will post diagram of the system in comments.
Any help appreciated!!!

2024.05.21 16:17 JonSnow781 Solar Inverter to Grid Configurations?

I am planning on installing 10kW of solar panels and 30kWh of battery backup using an EG4 18KV inverter.
The inverter manual lists several different wiring configuration options for connecting to the grid/main panel, but I'm having a hard time deciding which configuration I should go with.
Can anyone provide any more info on the variables and factors at play between these configurations that I should consider when making the decision?

Pyridoxamine-5'-phosphate oxidase (PNPO) deficiency is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by impaired metabolism of pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP), a crucial form of vitamin B6 essential for the function of various enzymes in the body. This deficiency manifests as a pyridoxal 5'-phosphate-responsive epileptic encephalopathy, with refractory seizures emerging typically within the first year of life. Prematurity, fetal distress, and neonatal seizures are commonly associated features. The phenotype of PNPO deficiency encompasses a spectrum of seizure types, with approximately 90% of affected individuals experiencing "classic" onset, marked by seizures in the neonatal period, and the remaining 10% exhibiting "late onset" seizures. Seizures, including status epilepticus, often commence within the first day of life in classic cases and before two weeks of age in the majority of instances. Despite variations in onset time, seizures typically exhibit resistance to conventional antiepileptic medications. Lifelong treatment with B6 vitamers, primarily pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) in 60% of cases and pyridoxine (PN) in 40%, yields partial seizure control. Developmental impairment, affecting speech, cognition, and behavior, is present in around 60% of individuals with PNPO deficiency. Some may also exhibit neurological deficits such as muscular hypotonia or dystonia. Severe neurodevelopmental impairment is more prevalent in cases with delayed diagnosis and prolonged periods of uncontrolled seizures. Pharmacological management involves oral administration of PLP or PN, with PLP typically divided into 4-6 daily doses and PN into 3-4 doses. Careful titration is essential to avoid potential liver toxicity with PLP and sensory or motor neuropathy with PN, which is usually reversible upon dose reduction.

2024.05.21 15:22 winterblahs42 Can this furnace be relocated?

Can this furnace be relocated?
Hello,
I have a situation with a old farm house furnace. Specifically, the chimney/flue setup.
The house was built around 1913 and was originally heated with a wood/coal stove in the kitchen. There is a single wall brick chimney that starts in the cellar and passes through the kitchen and then a upstairs bedroom.
About 1970, a hot water baseboard heating system was installed. A metal liner was run through the old brick chimney/flue and the furnace installed in the cellar. See the diagram on the left.
The furnace was replaced about 20yrs ago and had some repairs/upgrades recently. Its working OK. The issue is I think this >50yr old liner had rotted out someplace and starting about 10-15yrs ago has been damaging the brick and mortar. I retucked the section on the top (on the roof) in 2014. The paint/plaster in the upstairs room has been flaking all this time as well. I noticed this winter that the mortar is failing up there again and also noticed damage to the drywall in the kitchen so the moisture leakage is getting worse.
I would like to eventually get rid of this chimney as its going to need a lot of work and nobody does that sort of work in that area (tried to find, so why I did some repairs myself).
So, the question is. Can I install some new B vent along the outer wall on the lower room and have the furnace relocated over there? Furnace has a blower for draft so it does not seem like that super tall flue is needed?

2024.05.21 14:52 youspiritually The Anaerobic Potential of the Human Body

Greetings!
We would like to continue with energy work.
In todays session, we are desirous of speaking about the vertical dimension of your body or that which would be understood as the anaerobic or 'without oxygen.'
Firstly, we ask the rhetorical: Why did the Monks and Yogi's live in the mountains?
We of J believe the monks and yogi's lived in the mountains to live in crisp, oxygen depleted air. We also believe they lived in mountains due to how prana moves through mountainous environments.
The closest low-land air ever comes to being crisp would be in your harsh winters where temperatures are below freezing.
Within an environment that has a severe lack of oxygen, breathing is something you do entirely manually to keep yourself from constantly fainting or tripping, each breath in-fact is a trip through the anaerobic system. Monks spend years learning how to not space out in a most literal sense lest they die of carbon dioxide poisoning.
Each breath, however small or large, supplies the monk with aerobic potential which he utilizes to keep himself awake and aware of what is happening in the world - this builds a positive charge.
To be willing to partake in the world of the living, requires typically more positive energy than negative, which many may understand as work ethic in your culture.
Breathing exercises for working monks revolved around washing dishes, cleaning and tidying, praying and a variety of other physical labors that went from as intensive as running around everywhere and chopping trees, to as relaxing as learning how to see different colours or floating in the air (levitation).
With aerobic potential or positive charge, we of J think anything as fantastical as your movie and cartoon depictions of super-powers is possible. However, harnessing aerobic breathing is very difficult because in the low-lands, oxygen is usually so abundant that one does not realize how each breath vitalizes the body and in which areas.
Anaerobic Potential:
However, we of J believe there is an entirely different side to the body that does not rely on oxygen at all. We also believe many confuse this energy system as the array of pains and pleasures they feel going through life, such as breaking an arm, going through a break up, fulfillment or even profound states of satori.
We of J believe that much of human experience in-fact is centered around the anaerobic side of your mind/body.
When oxygen is not required, things that would make you look as alike a superhero with oxygen would then seem childish when done without oxygen.
We of J believe that most spiritual work asks one to focus on anaerobic contractions of focus and in bolstering the strength of this muscle, one can navigate your planet with great freedom.
The anaerobic system works within deeper structures of the central nervous system, it is hard to feel but without being unconscious, yet if one can experience this nervous system entirely with will power alone through dedicated meditative practice, that same entity will be able to traverse the empty space not only within themselves but the Universe itself.
For many, the anaerobic nervous system and its corresponding contractions are 'autonomic.' Meditators train for many years but usually in good environmental conditions, to gain mastery over the centers of the body that do not require oxygen to manipulate. In doing so, it becomes possible to create whichever hormone one so desires merely by stimulating the gland directly.
In yoga, beginners must learn a set of muscular contractions, learning all these muscular contractions would take some many years, but students of yoga plan on living hundreds of years so they usually do not mind.
The first muscular contraction is to liberate or free sexual energy which is the pelvic floor lift which we explained a few sessions back. This lift prepares the anaerobic system for blood-flow.
The final muscular contraction is to find the Dao in thinking hard and softly to move consciousness into hyperspace, this works the entire throat chakra which humans would understand as the default mode network.
All the contractions in the middle are what entities would term their life story or most vivid experiences of life, which settle automatically between the lower and upper spine.
In mastering all anaerobic contractions to generate higher experience, the Yogi may undergo death and rebirth to continue his training in a newer, fitter body that can handle large quantities of life-force.
In doing these exercises for hundreds of years more, one realizes that all is Thought, and balancing thinking and energy (relaxation) is the aim of the Simulation.
The Dao of Thinking:
Thinking is a balancing act, humans swing in a variety of different ways, but it is always a back and forth of the left and right hemisphere. To find the Dao or Middle, is to find the point where one is both thinking in a relaxed form and in a tense form such that one feels a sense of rising or lifting.
This is done correctly when one feels their head vibrating or 'tensing.'
As one familiarizes themselves with this contraction, a sense of yawning may come over you, it is important to not waste the energy, so it is better to hold the yawn in and use it for something more profound.
One will then contract all their thinking potential at the same time, which you may have done at a young age when you had a deep sense of doom come over you or felt profoundly excited and time started moving very slowly.
By contracting thinking potential all at once but with the anaerobic system, we can effect the pineal gland piezoelectrically and begin to sync with the magnetic environment around us.
Drugs and the Anaerobic Nervous System:
We of J believe this nervous-system is very hard to feel in your world due to environmental issues which include wifi among other things.
Boomers, as your world terms them, are quite familiar with this nervous-system and very much struggle using your technology because it was simply not necessary to think so deeply about life such that it required dexterous hands and a quick left and right hemisphere.
Losing feeling of this nervous-system completely causes suicidal thoughts and depression we believe, gaining feeling of this nervous-system awakens you to pains that you have equally been ignoring.
We of J hope that the drugs of your world may soon help the common man or woman make contact with their inner world.
For those who are very interested in this nervous system, we of J are currently working with our instrument such that he may explain how you can awaken it with will-power predominantly.
If you have any questions about the 'anaerobic nervous system' as we are calling it, please do ask.

2024.05.21 13:05 CumpsterBlade Fanasty World Roleplay

Hello! I'd love a partner for a fanasty world! Something more realistic in some ways, and less in others. I'm a huge medieval nerd so expect the world to be fairly analogous to real life medieval times but with hints of magic in it. I already have a few magic systems in place that mirror the magic types for D&D(Arcane, Primal, Divive) though the magic is a lot less high magic than something like that most of the time.
I love writing action, so expect long fight scenes at times haha.
The idea for the roleplay would be an adventure based roleplay with hints of romance. Due to this I would prefer my partner play a female character, though their irl gender is irrelevant to me.
I have a few plans but would love to discuss full full worldscape in detail with each other.
For my charatcer I was going to play Lance, a young knight who was only recently knighted by the king after serving as squire to another knight throughout his teens. In terms of personality I see him as externally charismatic and the general definition on what you think of when you think knight. Deep down though, he has a darker side he doesn't allow people to see if he can help it. He is a young handsome man with high cheekbones that are sliglty wife. His hair is dark brown and kept neat. He's six foot tall and weighs about one hundred and eight pounds, his build lean but muscular. His eyes are a piercing blue.

2024.05.21 11:16 GM-official-tech Understanding Flowcharts in Computer Science: A Comprehensive Guide

In computer science, a flowchart is a diagram that represents a process, algorithm, or system. It uses a set of standardized symbols to illustrate the sequence of steps involved in the process, making it easier to understand and communicate complex procedures. Flowcharts are commonly used in software development, systems engineering, and business process modeling.

Key Symbols in Flowcharts

  1. Oval (Start/End):
    • Indicates the beginning and end points of a process.
    • Example: Start, End.
  2. Rectangle (Process):
    • Represents a step in the process, usually an action or operation.
    • Example: Calculate total, Update record.
  3. Parallelogram (Input/Output):
    • Denotes input to the system or output from the system.
    • Example: Enter data, Display results.
  4. Diamond (Decision):
    • Shows a decision point in the process, with branches for different outcomes.
    • Example: Is the number > 10? Yes/No.
  5. Arrow (Flow Line):
    • Indicates the direction of flow from one step to the next.
    • Example: Moves from "Start" to "Input Data".
  6. Circle (Connector):
    • Used to connect parts of the flowchart that are not directly connected.
    • Example: Connects to another part of the diagram labeled "A".

Example of a Simple Flowchart

Let's create a simple flowchart for a process that checks if a number is even or odd:
  1. Start
  2. Input Number (Parallelogram)
  3. Is Number % 2 == 0? (Diamond)
    • Yes: Output "Even" (Parallelogram)
    • No: Output "Odd" (Parallelogram)
  4. End

Steps to Create a Flowchart

  1. Identify the Process: Define the process you want to represent.
  2. Determine the Steps: Break down the process into individual steps.
  3. Select the Symbols: Choose appropriate symbols for each step.
  4. Arrange the Steps: Organize the steps in logical order.
  5. Draw the Flow Lines: Connect the symbols with arrows to show the flow.
  6. Review and Refine: Check for accuracy and completeness.

Applications of Flowcharts

Advantages of Flowcharts

Flowcharts are a versatile tool in computer science and beyond, aiding in the visualization and communication of processes and systems

2024.05.21 09:24 DrSenpai_PHD How should I hook my amplifier positive into this?

How should I hook my amplifier positive into this?
Kicker CX 800W amp, old 12" Kicker Subwoofer, stock head unit in 1996 Saturn SL2.
My positive terminal is a single rubberized piece that does not separate easily. I don't want to put a ring terminal between the copper washer and the battery since it would be ajar, hurting positive terminal contact.
The cable at the bottom of the first photo heads over and bolts into my fuse box. Could I undo that bolt and put my ring terminal on there? To be clear, this would be tapping power BEFORE the fusebox -- I'll comment a wiring diagram on this post.
The only risk I foresee is that now the current for all my cars electronics + the amp is going through that single wire. If I could put a ring terminal right on the battery, current would for the amp would be through it's own wire.
I have no plans to crank this system very high since I have a stock alternator. Thoughts?

2024.05.21 08:19 Sin-God A New Chain; Snapshots

The familiar sounds of the office fill the ears of the "Adventurer" as he steps into his home away from home. To him "Familiar sounds" means the voices of about three-quarters of the hundreds of employees who work in this building, thanks to the progressive, passive, perpetual boosts to his senses that he has simply always been accruing. He still can't quite hear everything in the office, indeed as powerful as his senses are he can only actively sense enough space around him to be firmly aware of events occurring about half of the building's length and width away from him at a time, but those are still incredibly powerful senses.
Lucas steps past several cubicles and heads to his own with a calm smile on his face. He actually enjoys his job, not because he finds the work fulfilling but because it presents him with a chance to level up his skills and work towards becoming altogether stronger in a hilariously safe environment. The figure sits in his cubicle and logs into his work computer with a bright grin on his face. As he grabs the last pieces of paper in the backlog that was a big problem when he began to work for this company he feels a pang of pride.
The workday is pleasant enough. He successfully finishes the last pile of paperwork that was considered part of the backlog and this effort is celebrated by his direct supervisor and a few of the friends he's made in his department, a group composed of several men and only a few pair of women, who have been working here for years but lacked the abilities he possesses that allow him to grind out progress at a rapid rate and allow him to improve the work he does every single day without fail. The news quickly spreads throughout the office, and various people, including other departmental supervisors and managers, come to him and congratulate him.
When the day ends Lucas is one of the first people out the door. This is commonly expected Lucas-like behavior at this point so no one bats an eye at it. The figure works and then leaves, and he seems to have an incredibly strict policy about work-life balance to the point that no one from the office has seen his apartment or even seen him outside of the office aside from on social media.
The lad walks towards a nearby mall even as he checks his phone. When the decently cautious man is sure he's not being watched he uses his inventory to swap outfits, changing into something much more casual than his work uniform so he can do his equivalent of trolling. His clothes go from being the professional outfit someone might expect to see an accountant in, to the much more casual clothes of someone who works at a Game Station the local equivalent of a Game Stop.
The minute the figure reaches the mall he relaxes and steps into it with a smile on his face as he is suddenly and powerfully aware of events going on all around him now that the sounds he's been passively hearing for the last few minutes are not muffled by layers of solid American construction. The mall is a favorite haunt of his, a place where there are enough people that even if something goes awry he can pretty easily escape in the chaos and commotion that any sort of hostile actions would necessarily cause. Still, to the figure's credit he has not been caught yet.
The thief begins his training by carefully studying the department store he's in. He can be a bit bolder now than he could weeks ago, as in the time since he began to hone this skill he's enhanced it in such a way that he can teleport objects directly into his inventory, which is a tremendous improvement even if he can't take anything bigger or heavier than a cleaver. He eventually spots a teenager with a wallet that is just visible out of the corner of his pockets. Lucas diligently uses "Observe" on him and the powerful skill is strong enough now that Lucas can use it to determine someone's affiliations. When the young adult spots that the teen belongs to a gang he decides it's worth taking his potentially ill-gotten gains.
The clever trickster points a single finger in the direction of the teen's pocket and silently casts the handy spell. A thin line of energy lances out of his extended digit and sails through the air toward the teenager. When the teen begins to move Lucas hisses in annoyance and expends a bit more magical energy to take advantage of the first skill he's gained as a result of an attribute hitting 50: arcane manipulation.
Days ago the young adventurer's passion for magic and healing resulted in two classes leveling up on the same day: mage and white mage. This resulted in his intelligence going from 49 to 52, and as a result of that he gained the ability to manipulate magical energy, so long as he can detect the magic in question and is willing to spend some magic of his own. In this world, where the figure is reasonably certain that no other magical beings exist, this means that to hone this skill the wizard needs to manipulate his own magic. Still, that hasn't stopped the young professional from tirelessly doing just that.
With a significant amount of focus the mage is able to manipulate the thin beam and twists and turns it so that it circles around the teen before snaking into his pocket and striking the young gangster's wallet. When Lucas feels the wallet enter his inventory he chuckles and makes his way out of the department store. The rest of this particular bout of training is filled with similar feats of arcane finesse and hilariously minor acts that will steal from those willing to enact violence on others in exchange for money. Lucas's clever usage of his skills coupled with his willingness to act in stunningly petty and annoying ways make him great at harassing those he designates his foes. Lucas, lacking an ability to kill those he fights thanks to a drawback affecting him, has thus far refused to actually engage those he has marked as his foes in direct battle but his desire to annoy them has led to willingly target people associated with criminal groups with some of his spatial magic.
In hours the figure is back home and he is toying with the newest toy he's received from his gacha system. A guitar sits on his lap and he fiddles with the instrument, even he listens to a video about how to tune the thing. Lucas is experimenting with something, and behind the tablet he gained some time ago is a book that contains information on tuning guitars. The tablet is in use, recording what the man is up to. An app is in use and it records the sounds the guitar chords make. The self-taught musician relies on some of his new skills for this, as he has only recently gained the "Guitar" and "Guitar Maintenance" skills, and he got them at different times so they are different levels. Nonetheless, the figure patiently records himself, occasionally stopping the recording and examining it. He is diligently using his long-term planning skills and sticking to his broad plan. At the same time the figure patiently uses magic and steadily hones the "Mage" class, using his magic skills to farm multiple sources of experience while adhering to the schedule he has informally given himself.
Eventually the next day rolls around and the figure, predictably, gets out of his apartment and goes to work. If you had explained the concept of "Jumping" to Lucas a year ago and asked him if he thought so much of it would be just working a 9-5 job he'd not have believed you and yet in the context of his experience with the unusual profession a stunning amount of time has just been him being a regular employee of a perfectly mundane business.
Time continues to pass for the would-be adventurer at a steady pace. In this mundane world a figure with legitimate supernatural abilities is a uniquely powerful presence, and this is especially true of one that is determined to keep his head down and nose clean. Lucas's determination to live a regular, relatively risk-free life does not stop him from living, but it does stop him from suffering from some sort of "Middle School Second Year Syndrome" as a result of the fact that he has gained trainable superpowers. Instead of going mad with power or gaining an unhealthy mentality Lucas has just enough knowledge of how jumping works to know that while he might be a big fish in this world he is not a big fish in other worlds like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, or even something as aggressively hostile and oppressive as the general setting of Minecraft is.
If an objective, impartial onlooker viewing Lucas's life is given the chance to describe the sort of "Television Show" that they are watching, they'd say it could easily be considered slice-of-life. For the first few months of his time here the most exciting times are the rare moments he adds something new to his slowly expanding list of activities and the even more slowly growing list of things he can do, such as when he begins to walk the streets of the city he lives in at night and cast healing, positive, restorative magic on the sleeping homeless people he encounters. This activity ultimately earns him the peculiar title of "Unsung Saint", a title which enhances the effectiveness of his restorative or otherwise beneficial magic on those not aware of the fact that he is using magic on them.
Days of work, training, and controlled, planned forays into new pastimes, turn into weeks of steady and anticipated progress. Weeks of steady and anticipated progress turn into months of upward mobility and the healthy establishments of new baseline feats. That said, eventually progress slows and becomes more difficult for the jumper in a world as relatively safe, for supernatural beings, as this one. It doesn't take terribly long for Lucas to go from a somewhat predictable, fairly focused figure who is very specialized in a number of areas, to a somewhat more well-rounded figure with a steadily increasing repository of skills and abilities, thanks to a subtle shift in growth strategies.
Just a few days short of eleven months into his stay in this jump, the jumper is facing a new foe but is participating in an activity he's come to enjoy; sparring.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I dodge a well-aimed right-handed punch intended for my face, though thanks to my agility I easily had enough time to dodge it, It took a long time, from my viewpoint, for it to get close to me so long enough that I only let it get this close on purpose. I'm holding back in terms of my speed and strength but my opponent, a friend I made at the gym a few weeks ago, doesn't need to know that. I have way too many supernatural advantages for it to be a fair fight if I don't hold back.
I give my opponent enough time to register that I've dodged the blow before I begin to telegraph, purposefully, my next attack. I purposefully overextend my left arm and launch a powerful, but slow, strike. The man grits his teeth and moves to intercept my strike. He is fast enough to position his arm in front of it but that is still a mistake. I guide my blow into his arm and watch as he lets out a sincere, pained, grunt. Even with me holding back I still allow DPS to work its magic, and that perk coupled with both my trained and perk-enhanced strength is enough for me to deal him a decently powerful blow.
I retract my fist with a sly smile and note that the bars that cover my field of view are all going up at different rates. The bar for "Brawler", a class that's the result of "Fighter" giving me access to a new class when it hit level 10, my currently equipped class, is going up at a healthy clip as I spar with this man, as is the bar for "Precision Strikes" and "Acting", some of my skills. Most of the things going up at a decent clip are affected by "Jack of All Trades" a perk thatreduces the time and effort it takes for me to train up new skills to around the level of my average. Most of my other bars are only slightly going up, but this is acceptable. This sort of training is vital, long term, for my very survival, and thanks to my perks is pretty easy for me to do.
Behind me I hear a familiar voice cheering; Hannah's. The lovely redhead has begun to accompany me to the gym, but this is a somewhat recent development. Before a few weeks ago we only occasionally saw each other on Saturdays at the cafe she worked at, though we have been texting buddies ever since we met. Marcus, my sparring partner, grins savagely at me as he listens to my friend and gym buddy's cheers.
"I can't let you show me up in front of your girl, Lucas. We're not close like that." Marcus tells me, though the words are insincere. Marcus is a friend of mine, one who has even tasted my food, and that's something I don't let others do as much as I once did, barring people who go to the soup kitchen when I'm one of the volunteers on duty. My cooking can now do some decent stuff so I don't want to get anyone who isn't an ally or someone I need in my pocket overly reliant on my skills. I grin at the muscular bruiser of a warrior and dart back before gesturing for him to come at me like he means it. The man lets out a hearty laugh as he begins to pursue me. He is a touch taller than me and he has muscular, wide arms that take up a lot of space.
I watch, diligently, as he swings them at me when he is in the martial sweet spot of being close enough to hit me with a fully extended fist and being far enough away for me to strike back in an effort to preempt or counter his blow. I dart forward even as he stops advancing and duck underneath the strike before I use an active skill from my "Dancer" class to infuse my agility into my strength and hit him with a blow that disorients him. He steps back, a look of pain and confusion on his face as I step forward and move close enough to hit the man with a much softer blow to the chest. I feel his solid muscles block part of the harm done to him, but the blow is still solid enough that I watch his HP lower.
He gasps in pain and staggers back, and I smile at him and sense my triumph. He's only lost a small portion of his total hit points, but for normal people, one's total stock of HP is an abstraction of their physical health. For me, my HP serves as a skillful shield that protects me at all times, and for me to fall in battle someone has to whittle away my entire bar before they take me out. In fact, right now my HP is not maxed out; earlier I took a hit from Marcus that I'm still recovering from.
I take a step forward before Marcus signals that he needs a break. I laugh, the sound filling the part of the gym we're fighting in, and stop approaching the man. Hannah walks up to the ring and offers me some of her water as I walk toward one of the corners of the small ring. I silently gesture that I'll accept it and she tosses it at me. When the object is in my hand I use subtle telekinesis to mess with my boxing glove just enough to more easily hold onto the water bottle and sip from it. The cool water tastes good, and I smile as I feel it helping me relax as I wait to continue the fight. This is the sixth time I've beaten Marcus, but I'll give the man one bit of praise: he's persistent. He likes fighting enough that he is always eager to try and fight me, and I like fighting just enough to appreciate his resistance to the idea that I can beat him. It's not always easy for me to keep on finding partners that I can spar with.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
In the days that follow this fight, the young jumper continues to spar with Marcus. He steadily trains his "Brawler" class, and takes on class skills that do things like make him a more efficient hand-to-hand fighter, even gaining skills that he suspects, and hopes that he won't need here; like the ability to launch a punch that can inflict damage at a distance.
The figure's volunteering remains a steadfast facet of his in-jump identity. The man gains popularity throughout the place that is, functionally, his hometown, as he becomes a well-known volunteer. He even makes the places he volunteers at more popular, using a steadily increasing amount of local and online popularity to advocate for the organizations he supports. This first began to occur about three months into his stay in the jump, but he really begins to leverage it at the six month mark and he quickly begins to slowly become a minor force in the community, taking advantage of his heavy charisma build to sway hearts and minds to his cause.
His days at work continue to remain fairly unchanged from how they were at the start of his time in the jump, though on very rare occasions he creates reports and the in-jump equivalent of PowerPoint presentations about the data he has compiled to his supervisor. He has also overseen a day of service for members of his department to go and volunteer at the soup kitchen where he volunteered on the day he met Hannah, allowing him a pleasant chance to practice his leadership skills. He earns his first pay raise just under a year into his stay in this setting.
Minor missteps occur along the way, such as the figure overbooking himself during one particularly hectic weekend, which annoys his friends and fellow volunteers but serves as a decently humbling experience for the overly eager adventurer and also shows his friends that he is, ultimately, human.
Lucas continues his relaxed, fairly peaceful days for more and more time. By the time he has been in the jump for a full two years his pre-jump life feels like a memory or a strange dream, though this change to his state of mind does not actually mean he cannot recall such a time only that he has fully acclimated to the realities of being a jumper. At least as much as someone who is still on their first jump can acclimate to such a thing.
A/N: I like this episodic style for the necessary time skips that a standard (or mostly standard) jumpchain story will require. Now I'm gonna say that this style won't be universal across all jumps since some jumps may be better suited to shorter timeframes. Heck some more story-intensive jumps may benefit from longer focuses on individual events and sequences of events, but we've gone past the tutorial phase for this jump and I think minor episodic looks at broad timescales is better than a thousand chapter story that only hits one year in a jump and ultimately gets dropped. That said, I know that I'm not doing this style of writing PERFECTLY, so I hope that I can use this to grow as a writer and to become better able to convey how long time skips affect the characters, relationships, and strengths of the people involved over time. Still, if nothing else this was fun.
ALSO, as an author's note that is unique to the subreddit: this story is being published on Spacebattles and the white line that cuts through parts of the story indicates a narration/viewpoint shift. On Spacebattles and several other places I write there are in-built formatting options that allow you to cut through a textbox with a horizontal line which serves as a visual marker for some significant change to some aspect of the story. The line I made was my attempt to do that here on Reddit. It's... not perfect, but hey I'm trying.

2024.05.21 07:45 Flimsy-Pea9416 How do I transition from Dev to a Technical BA

My bachelors degree is in computer engineering and I have 13 years of experience as a developer. I would like to transition to more of a BA role. I am proficient in Java, Python, React, SQL, GOlang, and have experience working in AWS and GCP environments.
The last few years of my career have been spent wearing different hats on my team. I have done requirements gathering, creating user stories, product demos to different stakeholders, creating acceptance criteria, UAT testing, wireframes, creating process flow diagrams and trying to get engineers to build the system that the customer wants and not specifically what they asked for.
I enjoy this type of work much more than the coding. Is it just a matter of updating my resume and applying or is more experience required before I can transition.

Help wiring Venstar T7900
I currently have a Trane thermostat (manual) with the following wiring
existing wiring
I am wanting to install a Venstar T7900 (manual), which has the following terminals:
Venstar T7900 terminals
I've read through much of each manual, including the sample wiring diagrams. The T7900 has the following info on wiring:
wire connections
It also has some dip switches which have to be set for:
  1. gas,elec / heat pump => I've set it to heat pump
  2. O / B wire for controlling the switchover valve => I've set it to O
Most of the wiring seems straight forward enough, but the manual states this about the O / B dip switch:
When the GAS/EL or HP dip switch is configured for HP, this dip switch (O or B) must be set to control the appropriate reversing valve. If O is chosen, the W1/O/B terminal will energize in cooling. If B is chosen, the W1/O/B terminal will energize in heating.
Given that W1/O/B will be energized in cooling, I'm not sure about wiring both Orange and White into the W1/O/B terminal together. Below is my attempt at mapping the old terminals to the new terminals. Would appreciate some help. Thanks.

B C (because Trane uses B for common)

2024.05.21 02:05 MearihCoepa Help with setup

Help with setup
Since the cables and wires are a mess behind the TV I made this diagram.
The crux of the issue is that I'm not happy swapping the AV cables manually from the NES/SNES on the Retrotink each time I want a new system. The HDMI hub is digital push button and is no problem but the Retrotink2x is eventually going to wear out as well as cable management (yes I'm one of those people) and lack of space since the wife wanted a TV that's too big for the corner it's in. Is there an upscaledigital TV converter box that can handle more than 1 system at a time like the old school AV hubs for CRTs or do I just need to buy a retrotink for each system (which would need another HDMI cable and a USB hub for power and a new HDMI switcher for the additional input)? The TV (Samsung BU8500 50) only has 2 HDMI ports and one is needed for the sound (I think I pushed the optical cable in wrong and busted the port so sound needs to go in the HDMI/ARC port) and we move too much to lug a CRT around (plus I have one in storage for when we're finally home home).
How do you all handle multiple retro systems on a modern TV?

2024.05.21 01:41 Accurate-Broccoli-77 Krythorians aka the Lumen Universe's Space Orcs

Krythorians aka the Lumen Universe's Space Orcs
The Krythorians are a warrior species hailing from the rugged planet Krythoria in the Lek Solar System of the Krythar Galaxy. Known for their martial prowess, strategic acumen, and unyielding sense of honor, the Krythorians have forged a society that revolves around the art of warfare and the pursuit of strength. Their culture is shaped by the harsh realities of their homeworld, where survival and dominance are inextricably linked.
Krythorians

Physical Characteristics

Appearance and Anatomy
Krythorians are an imposing humanoid species, characterized by their muscular, statuesque physiques and distinctive grey, ridged skin. These ridges, which cover their entire bodies, serve as a form of natural armor, protecting them from physical harm and the harsh elements of their environment. Krythorian facial features are marked by deep-set eyes, furrowed brows, and strong, angular jawlines, giving them an intense and fierce visage.
Sexual Dimorphism
While both male and female Krythorians are formidable in appearance, there are some notable differences between the sexes. Males tend to be taller and more heavily muscled, with more pronounced ridges on their skin. Females, while still physically powerful, have slightly smoother skin and more streamlined body structures, possibly adapted for agility and speed.
Lifespan and Reproduction
Krythorians have a lifespan that typically ranges from 200 to 300 years, although some individuals, particularly those in leadership roles, have been known to live much longer through a combination of genetic fortitude and advanced medical technologies. Reproduction in Krythorian society is closely tied to their warrior culture, with mating often occurring between individuals who have proven their strength and valor in battle.
Unique Abilities and Adaptations
Krythorians have evolved several unique abilities and adaptations that reflect their harsh planetary conditions and their martial way of life. These include enhanced sensory capabilities, such as acute hearing and night vision, which give them an edge in combat and hunting. They also possess remarkable physical resilience, with dense musculature and robust cardiovascular systems that allow them to endure prolonged physical exertion and recover quickly from injuries.

Society and Culture

Clan Structure and Hierarchy
Krythorian society is organized into a complex system of clans, each with its own distinct identity, history, and specializations. These clans are led by Warlords, who have proven themselves through combat and strategic leadership. The clans are united under a governing body known as the Council of Warlords, which makes decisions on matters affecting the entire Krythorian civilization.
Warrior Ethos and Honor Code
Central to Krythorian culture is a strict code of honor and a deep reverence for martial prowess. From a young age, Krythorians are trained in the arts of war, with an emphasis on physical strength, tactical thinking, and unwavering loyalty to one's clan. Honor is paramount in Krythorian society, with individuals expected to uphold the principles of courage, integrity, and respect for worthy adversaries.
Religion and Spirituality
Krythorian spiritual beliefs are closely intertwined with their warrior culture. They worship a pantheon of war deities, each representing different aspects of combat and military virtue. Religious practices often involve ritualized combat, offerings of weapons and armor, and the veneration of fallen heroes. Krythorians believe that a warrior's ultimate glory lies in a honorable death in battle, which assures their place in the afterlife alongside the gods of war.
Language and Communication
The Krythorian language, known as Krythorin, is a guttural and forceful tongue, well-suited to the issuing of commands and the recitation of epic war poems. Written Krythorin is a complex system of runes and glyphs, often inscribed on weapons, armor, and war monuments. Krythorians also place great importance on non-verbal communication, with a rich system of battle signals and gestural codes used to coordinate military operations.

Technology and Warfare

Military Doctrine and Tactics
Krythorian military doctrine emphasizes the use of overwhelming force, close-quarters combat, and the exploitation of an enemy's weaknesses. Their tactics often involve rapid, shock assaults designed to break an opponent's lines and sow chaos and confusion. Krythorians are also masters of siege warfare, with a deep understanding of fortification and the use of heavy weaponry to breach enemy defenses.
Weapons and Armor
Krythorian weapons are known for their durability and lethal efficiency. They favor heavy, close-combat arms such as war hammers, battle axes, and broad swords, as well as powerful ranged weapons like crossbows and ballistas. Krythorian armor is equally formidable, crafted from dense alloys and often adorned with intricate engravings and clan sigils. Many Krythorian weapons and armor pieces also incorporate runic technology, which imbues them with enhanced properties and mystical capabilities.
Starships and Space Warfare
In the realm of space combat, Krythorians employ heavily armored and heavily armed warships, designed to deliver punishing broadsides and to deploy ground forces for planetary assaults. Their ships are renowned for their resilience and their ability to operate in the most hostile conditions. Krythorian naval tactics often involve the use of boarding actions and the deployment of elite warrior units to strike at critical enemy ship systems.

Interstellar Relations

Alliances and Diplomacy
In the galactic arena, Krythorians are known as formidable allies and uncompromising adversaries. They value strength and honor above all else, and they forge alliances with those species and factions that share these qualities. The Krythorians have a particularly strong relationship with the Draken, another warrior race with whom they share a mutual respect and a history of military cooperation.
Conflicts and Rivalries
Given their martial nature and their drive for dominance, Krythorians have been involved in numerous conflicts throughout their history. They have a long-standing rivalry with the Lumens, whom they view as overly idealistic and soft. Krythorians have also clashed with the Eldarians and the Terradorians at various points, often over territorial disputes and ideological differences.
Role in the Intergalactic War
During the Intergalactic War, the Krythorians played a crucial role as one of the main military powers of the Draken-led faction. Their warriors were at the forefront of many decisive battles, their tactical expertise and unyielding determination proving invaluable in the prolonged conflict. The war also saw the rise of many legendary Krythorian heroes and the further cementing of their reputation as one of the galaxy's most formidable fighting forces.
Conclusion
The Krythorians stand as a testament to the power of will, honor, and martial excellence. Forged in the crucible of their unforgiving homeworld and honed through centuries of warfare and conquest, they have emerged as one of the most respected and feared species in the galaxy. As the Krythorians continue to navigate the complex web of interstellar politics and conflict, their warrior spirit and their unwavering commitment to their ancient codes of honor will undoubtedly shape the future of the galaxy for cycles to come.
