The Hook:
The year is 1849, London's elite are buzzing with excitement at the announcement from once famed visionary explorer Howard Cott whose legacy is one of acquiring hundreds of relics from far away lands and transporting them safely back to the shores of the United Kingdom. The announcement of one great last voyage up to the Arctic Circle to revisit a dig site too frozen over decades ago is now underway and its implications of who could have even built such a site, if it even exists, are tantalising for a myriad of reasons to different groups. The Northumbria, a mighty expedition & luxury ship is due to set sail in two days from the river banks at Newcastle upon-Tyne up in the north east of England and anyone whose anyone has a team aboard that ship, from museum owners, private investors, finance conglomerates, foreign elite, unknown benefactors and sponsor groups, wealthy socialite families looking to get their hands on whatever is out there for sake of reputation and even the Government, the voyage to the arctic circle is going to be frigid and dark.  
Story themes: The story will be set predominantly on a ship, The Northumbria, however the game will start on a short train journey up from London to Newcastle upon-Tyne where the ship actually is docked. A story filled with dread, horror and malevolent forces brings some of the more 'to the bone' themes in more than one way. Without any spoilers there could be mention of the following: Madness, Insanity, Suicide, Murder, Human Suffering, Torture, Mind control, Paranoia, Loss of sense, coercion and body horror. There's bound to be more, however I can't stress this enough, this game WILL have adult themes, so please make sure you understand this before applying.
 
Adult themes: Well being set on a luxury expedition vessel, alone at sea, with many handsome and gorgeous rich folk, surely there's bound to be some delights had, some easier to understand than others. This game does have optional ERP elements, so you should be comfortable in your own right at engaging with these topics be they with other players or NPCs in game, there will be a text based session 0 had to discuss this, lines and veils and that sort of thing. First timers are welcome.

Game Time and Regions: So while I'd encourage anyone to apply if it takes your fancy, I am looking for players who are going to be usually active in the evenings together, GMT+0 times, so anywhere between say 4pm to 12/1am you should be able to post in this window. In the application form the Passphrase is Golden. The main reason is due to it being PbP, those in massive time zone differences can make it quite hard to progress the game. For those in Europe it shouldn't be a problem, but for those elsewhere make sure you check the time differences. i.e 9pm game time is 4pm EST UK to American times handy chart  
Players I'm looking for: I'm looking for 4-5 confident and passionate people. You should be able to live as the character in scenarios rather than a person controlling a puppet, describing how you look, feel and think in scenarios. Descriptive players who are looking to be part of a group of others who are as passionate about their characters and the story unfolding. You should actively want to participate and be part of the group, please leave the edgy brood in the corner where it belongs, while the game is about mystery and you can be mysterious, if your character is too cool to work with anyone or engage with anything (be it from brood or trauma) you'll likely be tossed overboard to free up a bunk. You should be able to post at least once or twice a day during the 'active' hours in the evening when the other players are around. First timers are more than welcome. Those who are looking for a cheap thrill or to murder hobo need not apply. You should not be joining the game thinking this is strictly an ERP game and it's shag-a-thon-XII, if you create Austin Powers or Big Booba Sex Fuck Lady with maximum charisma and zero depth as your character archetype, you will be booted. The ship is a vessle for the 'high' society, when picking occupations, consider how that might affect your background and why or who invited you onto the ship. In session 0 we'll discuss if players want to all start as a group or as individuals.

Over the Christmas/New Years break I was a lonely gay at Christmas so naturally I went back on my bullshit and started talking to random dudes from 4chan and I ended up talking to and meeting up with a dude who had been a member of a British far right identarian group till he was prosecuted for terrorism - as you do, like. For those keeping score this is the third bizarre right wing 4chan nutcase I've met up with and then made a thread about.

• When he was a teenager he got involved in far right politics via memes and 4chan. This lead him to join a far right political group in the UK akin to the British National Party or the English Defence League.
  
• This group had a journalist infiltrate it and record it for a BBC Dispatchers documentary which partially focuses on this dude. There are also a number of articles about him in the vein of him being Britain's youngest nazi.
  
• To add another layer of surrealism to all this - these revelations were all divulged to me on calls in which he would pause, turn to his right and begin serenading me on the piano or guitar.
  
• Despite his abhorrent politics he wasn't an unsympathetic character. He talked to me about how his father had died of cancer when he was eight. I lost both my parents so I could empathise (fatherless post).
  
• Because he'd got done for being a member of a far right terrorist organisation he was given a court order to never associate with anyone from that group, he got thrown out of Sixth Form and his mother had thrown him out of the house. He couldn't find work so was doing some suspect facebook marketing business to earn money.
  
• Prior to that though he had tried working for an OnlyFans model. Tasked with posing as the model and chatting and responding to her fans as her just like what Andrew Tate and his brother were doing. However on his first day of doing this he was off his ADHD medication and started making a lot of edgy jokes to the point that they fired him there and then.
  
• We actually watch the Dispatchers documentary about him together and as we do he tells me all the gossip and intrigue about the people in it. During it the mole is attacked by antifa and while he's being beaten screams "I am a journalist" and then in the documentary worries that someone heard and his cover is blown. The documentary then frames it that he wasn't uncovered and that actually they respected him after the attack and offered to train the guy at a boxing gym. Apparently yes he wasn't uncovered but they thought the guy was an embarrassment and when they did the self defence class the mole had "acted like a r*tard" and behaved like a whimp and they would ridicule him behind his back.
  
• Watching it with him I did get the impression that he had been sort of groomed by these people. By the leader of the group, and then his couple who took parental roles with him but were quite manipulative. I felt bad for him as he'd lost all of his friends and his relationship with his mother had only just been repaired and he seemed to be hanging around with a group of weirdos.
  
• He told me he was gay-curious as of recently because he'd been to a house party and took a lot of mushrooms and laid in bed with a male friend who essentially molested him but he "zoned out" and enjoyed the head and was high so he let it happen. I remember he said "I don't think he meant to do it. I don't think he realised. It wasn't malicious"
  
• He also told me about a friend he has who has a substack that's like if Delicious Tacos was a drug addled pick-up-artist who dressed like a steam-punk enthusiast and wrote about sleeping with a vomiting Thai ladyboy. He showed me several items of clothing this guy had given him all of which looked like something from a Doctor Who yee-yee ass Victorian .
  
• He came down to London to visit me for a shag and I only note it because during the activities he picked up his jeans and pulled a set of nipple clamps on a chain that looked like something a Polish man would wear around his neck and put it on himself. We went about the deed and towards the end he is in my hand and he tells me to count down. I oblige him from ten and as I get to two he rips at the chain and yanks it off and in turn immediately ejaculates, severely. I was actually shocked.
  
• Later that day upon his return home he blocks me.
  

Firstly, I don't think this was a bad movie, but I'm not sure it was for the reasons intended. I found this movie funny. Like laugh out loud funny. I have seen this billed as a comedy, but not many reviewers highlighting the humour as one of the main selling points. Most of the reviews have been saying that it was a dark mystery and was unsettling and uncomfortable. I don't see any of that.
The whole thing feels like an edgy Jeeves and Wooster novel. It's kind of dark farce. But still farce, like am I too believe people had a genuine connection with any of the people? I mean they're not terrible, like the amount of hate piled on Felix seems way out of proportion.
He's probably the least deserving of his fate. He becomes a victim of other people's perceptions of him rather than his understandable actions. I found Oliver to be thoroughly dislikable in a fun way. He's a pantomime villain, like the Phantom of the Opera who can't sing. But ultimately anything he does or fails to do, I don't care, he's a mess. Also the grave shagging scene was pure hilarity. Like is that supposed to be disturbing? Dude's out in the rain wanking into a hole in the ground. That's hilarious.
Other from that the rest of characters played pretty funny supporting roles, the mad ditzy Pamela was wonderful in a Helena Boham Carter inspired quirk-fest. Richard E Grant steals every scene he is in, something a little Withnail about his angry outburst at the dinner table, which was great. Farleigh seemed to be playing the role of the catty evil sister, his departure didn't make too much sense and his character seemed superfluous.
The mother and sister characters were fairly boiler plate, nothing out of the ordinary. The sister was very one dimensional, while Elspeth her mother was maybe a little more fun. Again I was chasing laughs here and the "I'm a vampire" scene was more reminiscent of something like American Pie, kind of 90's gross out humour to throw popcorn to rather than anything truly shocking. On a small side note the Butler, was that a red herring? If so, it's explanation was left on the cutting room floor at some stage, kind of disappeared in the third act never to be seen again.
The themes and take-aways are another thing I'm struggling with comprehending. A lot of people making stretches to the film being a critique on class? I mean the only thing that's revealed here is sociopaths are sociopaths and rich people have a lot of stuff and tend to enjoy themselves. If that's a revelation then you're going to lose your mind watching the news. I found Felix's actions noble enough while Oliver was deranged whatever way it was spun. However, my partner think Oliver is on his way to becoming an incel hero, that I can see.
Overall I did enjoy the movie, but I'm not quite sure I watched the same movie as everyone else, it was a solid 6/10 pressing 7/10. But things it was not: Shocking, Deep or a class critique. Things it was: Silly, Over the top and vapid. Also is Saltburn a reference to Caustic Soda, a salt that can burn you, also known as Lye, as the place is full of lies. That's about as deep as I read into any of it. That's my two cents.
