Americans deserve real solutions for the economic, social and environmental crises we face. But the broken political system is only making things worse. It's time to build a people's movement to end unemployment and poverty; avert climate catastrophe; build a sustainable, just economy; and recognize the dignity and human rights of every person. The power to create this new world is not in our hopes; it’s not in our dreams — it's in our hands.

Trying to make a really long story short. My dad was “given” a blue and gold macaw when the bird bit his friends new babies finger. Norman is his name and he was 2. I was a teen, and spent a lot of time with him. We had a screened lanai and pool and he would fly around inside and out. My dad had him for 25 years. In the last four years he moved to a smaller house to accommodate their age and upkeep abilities. Norman hated it and squawked all the time, and my dad placed him in a back bedroom with a small window and kinda forgot about him. I visited his Florida home from my adult home in Ohio with my kids yearly and about that time my teen daughter asked her grandpa if we could just take him home with us. My dad packed him up and pretty much shoved him in my truck. We brought him and his beloved cage home and have spent six years trying to get him to be comfortable. He is miserable. I can’t let him out a lot, as I’ve always had dogs. There is no where to fly. He just screams all the time and I’m so clueless. I want him to be happy, and I’m positive I can’t give him what he deserves. I’ve tried to relocate him with people I knew who had birds but they didn’t want the task. He is angry especially if he sees a broom or vacuum, he lunges at people he doesn’t know, and he prefers women to men. I don’t want to go the rescue route because Ohio doesn’t have splendid options for people genuinely not looking to make a dime off him. An id really like to keep in contact with him, as he is a family member, I just want him to have his freedom and be happy. Any ideas?

2024.05.22 00:48 Mcarps424 US State inspired league

US State inspired league
I made a US state inspired Retro Bowl league
Since there ate 50 states and only 32 slots I had to combine a couple states into one to form a team.
Combined Teams: Cascadia = Washington and Oregon New England = Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut The Virginias = Virginia and West Virginia Megakota = North and South Dakota Carolina = North and South Carolina Great Lakes = Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, and Minnesota Deep South = Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas
It was easy to group New England and the states that share a name together. I excluded South Carolina from the Deep South team to group it in with North Carolina. I excluded Texas and Florida from it too, because I felt they should each have their own teams. I felt like Georgia should have their own team too, but it was easier to group them in with the Deep South. I acknowledge that the states grouped together for the Great Lakes is kind of cursed given college football and NFC North rivalries. I attempted to break that team up and have a Tornado Valley team instead, but couldn’t figure out how to divide everything up as nicely. As cool as a Tornado Valley team would be, “The Great Lakes Superiors” is an equally cool team in my mind.
I made the conferences East vs. West. For the divisions, I tried my best to group states in the same geographic location as best as I could. The Eastern Conference was fairly easy, though Missouri was the odd one out and needed to be moved to the West. For the Western Conference, the placement of Nevada in the Pacific vs. the North division is debatable. It can easily be switched with Cascadia, but this placement felt better to me. I originally called the Pacific division, the West division but the West West division sounded dumb compared to the Pacific West. I was then left with 4 states that didn’t really fit anywhere nicely, so I decided to put them together and call it the Mountain Plains division.
I didn’t post the jerseys, but for the most part I tried to make jerseys that match the state flags. I kept Carolina, New England, Tennessee, and Arizona as their default jerseys. There were too many red and blue, and blue and gold teams, so I took some liberties with those states. For the combined states I tried taking colors from each of their flags. The Great Lakes Team, I found a color called “Great Lakes Blue”, which I used as their main color.
I am only midway through Season 2 in the save. I was assigned to take over Missouri. Alaska won the Retro Bowl in Season 1 over Megakota.
I had fun putting this together and I may make some updates in the future. I am open to any thoughts, suggestions, and questions.

2024.05.22 00:48 Weird_Bug_9135 A Personal Journey with PEMF Therapy: Harnessing the Healing Power of Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields

I remember vividly the day I stumbled upon PEMF therapy. It was a rainy afternoon, and I felt like shit. I was doomscrolling through health forums, seeking solace for my persistent feelings of depression. That’s when I encountered a thread discussing pulsed electromagnetic field therapy. Desperate and intrigued by the numerous positive experiences shared by users, I decided to delve deeper into this fascinating therapy.
PEMF therapy, or pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, utilizes low-frequency electromagnetic waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. The science behind it is compelling: our bodies naturally produce electromagnetic fields, and these fields play a crucial role in cellular communication. When these fields are disrupted, it can lead to various health issues, including mental health challenges like depression. PEMF therapy works by restoring the body's natural electromagnetic balance, promoting overall wellness and mental clarity.
Depression had been a shadow over my life for as long as I could remember. The feeling of emptiness, the lack of motivation, and the overwhelming sense of hopelessness were all too familiar. Traditional treatments had provided some relief, but I was eager to explore alternative therapies that could offer more holistic benefits. That’s when I decided to try PEMF therapy for depression.
I began by researching the various PEMF frequencies for depression. Different frequencies can target specific areas of the brain, promoting relaxation and improving mood. I was particularly interested in frequencies that could mimic the brain's natural rhythms, helping to alleviate the symptoms of depression.
Using PEMF therapy at home was surprisingly straightforward. I invested in a portable PEMF device, which allowed me to undergo treatment anywhere. Each session was as simple as wearing the device and going about my life while it emitted pulsed electromagnetic waves. The sensation was gentle, almost like a soft hum, and I could barely feel it.
The results were nothing short of transformative. Over the weeks, I noticed a significant improvement in my mood. The pervasive sense of hopelessness began to lift, replaced by a newfound sense of optimism. It wasn’t an overnight change, but rather a gradual shift that felt both natural and sustainable. PEMF treatment became a part of my daily routine, a soothing ritual that I looked forward to each day.
One of the most remarkable aspects of PEMF therapy is its versatility. It’s not just for depression; it’s a holistic treatment that can address a wide range of health issues. From improving sleep quality to enhancing physical recovery and reducing inflammation, the benefits are extensive. For someone like me, who was struggling with both mental and physical health challenges, PEMF therapy offered a comprehensive solution.
As I continued my journey with PEMF therapy, I began to experiment with different frequencies and treatment protocols. I learned that specific PEMF frequencies could be more effective for certain conditions. For depression, lower frequencies tend to work best, as they align with the brain's natural calming rhythms. This customization allowed me to tailor my treatment to my unique needs, maximizing the benefits and enhancing my overall well-being.
Sharing my experience with PEMF therapy has become a passion. I’ve encouraged friends and family to try it, often lending them my device for a few sessions. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many reporting improvements in their physical and mental health. It’s incredibly rewarding to see others benefit from something that has had such a positive impact on my life.
PEMF therapy is a powerful tool for promoting health and wellness. Whether you’re dealing with depression, chronic pain, or simply looking to enhance your overall well-being, pulsed electromagnetic field therapy offers a non-invasive, drug-free solution. My personal journey with PEMF has been transformative, providing me with relief from depression and a newfound sense of balance. If you’re curious about PEMF therapy, I encourage you to explore it for yourself. Discover the benefits of PEMF therapy today and take the first step towards a healthier, happier you.
In the vast landscape of wellness therapies, PEMF stands out not only for its scientific backing but also for its accessibility and effectiveness. So, whether you’re looking to soothe your mind, heal your body, or simply enhance your quality of life, give PEMF therapy a try. It might just be the gentle nudge you need to start feeling better, naturally.
Embarking on my PEMF therapy journey has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health. The gentle, non-invasive treatment has seamlessly integrated into my daily life, offering a consistent and reliable source of relief. The blend of science and simplicity that PEMF therapy provides is truly remarkable, making it a valuable addition to anyone’s wellness routine. Experience the transformative power of PEMF therapy for yourself and embrace a new level of well-being.

Determining most preferred Stanley cup matchups (based on Final 4) 2024
Most preferred: Dallas vs Florida
Tanev vs Tkachuk, Bennett and Lomberg. Former Flames fever. Gotta love it! Also battle of Deep South USA.
Somewhat preferred: Dallas vs New York
Tanev, you better kick Adam Fox’s smug ass on national TV (easy hero villain storyline of Dallas vs New Rangers)
Somewhat preferred: Florida vs Edmonton
Tkachuk, Bennett and Lomberg all get revenge against Edmonton (Avenge the Calgary Flames! Do it for Calgary! Easy hero villain storyline in Florida vs Edmonton)
Least preferred: New York vs Edmonton
Both Adam Fox and Evander Kane (along with Corey Perry) make me want to skip this Stanley cup finals if it happens (can both teams lose)?

2024.05.22 00:45 NippleBlades07 Don't stand over the mechanic's shoulder.

Dude was so close to me, he was literally stepping on my toes. It took everything in me to not throw my tools on the ground and tell the guy go the fuck home and do it himself. I was struggling with the tire machine to mount his "new" tires. Just got a new attachment, didn't have it fully dialed in.
For some unknown reason, the sales guys allowed him to not only be in the shop, not only backseat mechanic every fuckig move I made, but they didn't flinch when he put his hands in the no-no zone of the tire machine.
Like I told the customer: we don't allow that because we're LIABLE FOR IT. If your ape hand gets pinched, guess who gets to deal with it? Us! One of the big reasons I even work on cars is cause I can't fucking stand customers, especially in the automotive industry. We're a dealership, there's a tire shop a mile down the road..
The fact that our sales guys even approved this as I was elbow deep in a project that would've been done if not for this guy just pisses me off, like use common sense, we are NOT a service shop, this being one of the many reasons, like fuck off.
Now boss man is all pissy cause I struggled, acting like I didn't ace hundreds of tire mounts in the past, talking about "don't touch the tire machine until I'm around" motherfucker I mounted yours, and your wife's tires. Fuck this customer. As if today wasn't shitty enough already, I get a wise-ass dropped on me in the last hour of the day, looking up YouTube videos and shit while I'm trying to get shit done. Fuck today.

2024.05.22 00:44 Far-Bowler-3561 Why are black people too difficult to deal with?

Im not being racist or anything but it is what it is. I work in a hibachi restaurant where all types of people dine in. But most of the time black people as customers are the most difficult to deal with. I’m not saying ALL but MOST. MOST of them do this thing where they order something, eat em all then later complain that it was not good and that they want me to take the meal out of their ticket. Most of the time I do that, but sometimes I really can’t take bunch of the food items out of their ticket. When I tell them that I can’t do that, they start yelling aggressively and creating a scene.
Not long ago I had an argument with a customer. She was such a Karen. She complained about the fried rice which was just $2.50, I took it out of her ticket, gave her another box of fried rice for free. Later when I handed her the ticket, she starts complaining again. I mean woman if u too broke to even afford eating in a restaurant then please just stay at home and make something for yourself. Her daughter had steak and shrimp which was about $20-25. When she saw the ticket she blamed me for not telling her that the food her daughter just gulped was way too expensive and now she was not gonna pay for it. I mean how is that even my fault. Lady you ordered from a menu where the items and their prices are listed. Then she called my manager who is “customer is always right” kind a guy. He gave her some $2 discount and surprisingly she agreed to pay after that.
This was just one story that I shared. This happens often to me and my co-workers. If only they could be a little nice and not complain about every little things.

2024.05.22 00:41 slowercases In search of an art studio

Hiya, I moved here a couple months ago and I'm renting a great, but small, apartment near the downtown Safeway. I make stained glass windows and I'm on the hunt for a studio.
I need windows (the bigger the better), water (a hose would be fine), electricity, and about 150 sq ft minimum. I need to have a dedicated space---I have a lot of glass to store, and it takes months to make a piece, so I can't be packing it up every session. I don't have a large budget- maybe $2-400/month? I'm willing to make custom glass in trade, too. It would be so awesome if it was close to home (NE Neighbors)
I've asked the Salem Art Association and also checked with Studios at the Mill, to no avail. The arts building doesn't have anything that fits the bill.
Does anyone on this sub have a garage or outbuilding or ideas? If you want to see my work~ ultraviolet_heart on instagram or ultravioletstainedglass.com

2024.05.22 00:40 Physical_Literature5 Deliver driver walked into my home

Am I being dramatic here? I have a Walmart+ account and had a delivery scheduled. We had the front door open but screen shut so we can see the order being dropped off And my kids like to say thanks. The order states leave outside at the door. The driver opens my front door where my kids are and just walks into my home and starts talking to my kids and dropping the bags saying. "oh they were expecting me" as her way of why she just let herself into my home and put my kids in danger.
Walmart customer service doesn't seem to really understand nor care that I am heated about it and were extremely casual about the situation when I called. They said they would follow up and report an incident. But how is this not a bigger deal and concern?!?
Am I being crazy to be so upset?

2024.05.22 00:40 meowscles_34 i feel like i might have genuine ptsd from this job

hello! so i used to be a full time partner at starbucks at a VERY high volume store. i'm talking making 7-9k a day & 5k on slower days. we were located right next to both a college and a luxury apartment so that could tell you how busy it was. i was fired around this time last year however. i had been suffering a lot mental health wise & some days wouldn't be able to physically speak to call out. my manager was ALWAYS nosy about our business & noticed i was off so i told her about it. at first she understood but i feel like it was all pretend because on the days where i told her i physically couldn't speak & couldn't make it to work she would still hound me to call out; despite making it known to the shift running the floor & to the MANAGER HERSELF. after 2 write ups i took a week long unpaid break just to get my head together. i came back a little better than before but in the same week that i had returned a customer at the drive through window hounded me (called me a mistake for a human being because i didn't give him light ice in his refresher; also told me that people like me are the reason why other people off themselves after a bad day) and i also found out my partner had cancer (he beat it & is doing fine now!). this led me to take another week off under the guise that i had stomach issues. my partner also worked for starbucks & didnt want it to be known to the rest of the staff that he was suffering. however the only person he told was our manager & also informed our manager that it was me who was taking care of him. out of the entire week that i called off i couldn't get coverage for one (1) day. this led to my third and final write up where i was fired. fired because of my deteriorating mental health and after finding out the worst news of my life.
after this i fell into an even worse depression. i lost my source of free therapy that was helping me out a bit. most of my friends were from this job & a lot of them didn't keep contact with me after leaving. i felt like i had grown deep friendships but to them it was just work relationships. i was also dealing with the stress of having to be the sole financial income while my partner was out of a job during their recovery process. not to mention i couldn't find a job until recently because the market is so horrible + being fired isn't a good look on a resume. it was honestly a very horrible time. sometimes i come into my old starbucks (because my partner still works for the company) & get an overwhelming sense of sadness, anger, defeat & any other bad emotion you can think of. to this day my old manager will only look at me & not talk to me. when i enter the store i get flashbacks of both happy memories with my old coworkers and flashbacks to the week i got fired. it's a whole different crew now and it feels like life is moving on without me.
just wanted to say my experience as an ex barista. i kind of hate that the siren holds this much power over my emotions a whole year later. i feel almost haunted by starbucks; like a piece of me died last year & only a shell is left.

2024.05.22 00:39 Fluid-Project5065 Mutual break up but now my ex wont talk to me

My boyfriend (28) and I (24)have been or were dating for the past 9 months. With us being two guys it was a pretty significant relationship because this usually isn’t common for gay men.
Whole situation:
My boyfriend was straight when we first met each other and we hit it off pretty well. It felt natural considering we didn’t meet through an app and we weren’t looking for each other. I thought he was so pretty and later on did I find out he also thought the same thing about me. That night with our group of friends he continued to flirt and make jokes with me to the point where my friend was offended thinking he was gay baiting me. Sparing all the details of that night. Nothing sexual happened but we had good chemistry for barely knowing each other. Of course this confused him but after messaging some people to get my number he finally got in contact with me
My boyfriend made significantly less money than me considering I’m a veteran and also a medical professional and I think this caused a bit of insecurity with him even though I assured him I never cared. A few months into our relationship we were at dinner with some friends. We were all heavily drinking and I made a joke about being able to afford the car I have now. Just poking at him but it extremely hurt his feelings which I realized immediately. We went to his house and he was still visibly upset but I had to go home so I asked if he wanted to come over so that way I can be there for him since he was hurting.
This is where it gets complicated - I eventually asked him what was wrong after we made it to mine because he was sulking. He then told me how the joke was not funny and it hurt him so I apologized and assured him again that I did not mean to offend him. I promised I wouldn’t even make a joke or bring up financial topics again. He then became aggravated as (us both still intoxicated) he began getting loud and saying that we have nothing in common and the only thing I’ve done is made him miserable. He stated he felt trapped and then he said “what is even the point of us dating” he continue to yell at me as he was storming out. He ignored me as he waited for an Uber and declined to let me drive him home. He even walked down the street just so he wouldn’t be waiting in front of my apartment. At this time I continued to drink so much to the point where I was spilling wine everywhere. He wouldn’t respond to me over the phone. Not even to tell me he was safe.
I felt as if we had just broken up because of his aggravation and statements. (Sober me did not think this). I ended up downloading Grindr and convincing myself that he hated me and I drunkenly drove to a randos house to hook up. Which was extremely stupid. (I used to hook up with strangers during bad times in my life, of course this only hurt me. I think I was reverting back to my old ways of wanting to feel wanted). As I met the guy I began to sober up and realized I did not want to do this anymore but long story short, I was afraid to leave the hookup after he had been waiting and was aroused and I was also in his home, and I felt like he had a lot of potential to hurt me if wanted. So I just gave him a bj and left. As soon as I left I felt guilt in my life I had never felt before and I immediately deleted the app and vowed to tell my BF immediately.
The next day in the morning I told him what happened and assured him it was because of my immaturity that I did that and I never wanted to do anything like that again in my life as it hurt me so bad and this hurt him even more. He continued to tell me that he wanted to hurt me and that I can’t love him because I can’t even love my self. And some more stuff that extremely hurt my self esteem but at the time I thought I deserved it. Then he told me to get out of his house. He broke up with me via text 2 days later.
A few days passed and we decided to stay together as we both messed up. Me more than him though. I loved him and told him that my own actions caused me to cheat but I wasn’t thinking of the consequences and that in no way was it because I didn’t like him. But because I felt alone and hurt by how he treated me that night.
Our sex life was about once a month after this. He wanted to do something every day but I felt guilt every time he wanted to sleep with me. He also made a statement to me that hurt me so bad and I can’t put on here. He said he didn’t mean it but it made me ashamed to have sex at all ever again. He also stated a few months later that because I don’t have as much sex with him that it’s affecting his mental health and it doesn’t matter how I feel anymore but that I need to start putting out.
I’m also on SSRIs so it’s extremely hard for me to orgasm so every time we had sex it felt like it was just for him and I told him this. So when we weren’t together I would masterbate. He told me he does also but that I shouldn’t and that I should only be having satisfaction from him. I had sex toys before the relationship and he told me that they were disgusting and that I can’t use them. He even told me to throw some away. They were just regular phallic toys.
We continued to date for about 7 more months with resentment building up towards each other understandably.
Ending:
Last week I was already upset about our relationship and wanted to sit down and talk about it. But before I got the chance he hurt my feelings even more. I had just gotten my dream car, reasonably gonna talk about it. It also was 70k so I think it offended him that I could have the luxury of getting something so expensive. Last week I simply stated I wanted to get a modification done to the car and he told me he’s tired of hearing about the car and that I need to stop talking about it. He said I cared about the car more than him just because I talked about it. I also had a junk car before so I was just proud of myself. At this point I decided I can’t be happy anymore as he’s always getting upset with me. So we both agreed to split up. (Throughout our relationship he said “I love you” about 5 times for every time I said it just because I had a hard time showing I cared sometimes, at times I felt as him I didn’t love him enough because he loved me so much). I told him I want to remain friends and he agreed but now he stopped speaking to me altogether. I loved him and he “loved” me so how could he just drop me so fast. I know it takes time to heal from this but I feel like I just lost my best friend also and I don’t know what to do.

Firebush leaves curling downward
Hi there! I’ve noticed one of my firebushes has its leaves curling downward - I noticed this about a month ago and it’s gotten worse since. I have 3 other firebushes near it and none of the other ones seem to have the same problem. They all get watered the same amount.
What could be causing this and how do I fix it?
Thanks in advance for the help!

2024.05.22 00:27 IronFrogger Newbie question / July 1st

Hi All,
Hopefully this is a newbie friendly forum. Wife has been asking for a home defense gun for some time. We have an old .38 revolver that works well, but it's got some kickback that she doesn't like.
I haven't ever bought a gun, and I understand the rules in CA are complicated (according to a gun loving friend) on what weapons can be bought. It seems like to save some money, I should buy before July 1st (both gun and ammo). Can I buy ammo in another state and bring it here?
I suppose I'd like a suggestion on what to buy that's CA compliant. I am located in the south bay area in SoCal (think Redondo Beach / Torrance area).
Is there a reputable place to test some different guns out? We stopped by a gun store many years back, but they were just ultra-dicks and so now she's nervous about going back to a store or range.
Thank you in advance.

WHITE HATS INVESTIGATE TRUMP DEATH THREAT AND "WHITE POWDER". PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP HAS ASKED WHITE HATS to INVESTIGATE the ORIGIN OF A SUSPICIOUS “DEATH THREAT” LETTER CONTAINING WHITE POWDER that ARRIVED in his ELDEST SON'S MAILBOX in JUPITER, FLORIDA, a SOURCE in GENERAL ERIC M. SMITH'S OFFICE Said. February 27, 2024.
President Donald J. Trump has asked White Hats to investigate the origin of a suspicious “death threat” letter containing white powder that arrived in his eldest son’s mailbox in Jupiter, Florida, Monday afternoon, a source in General Eric M. Smith’s office told Real Raw News.
As first reported by the Daily Caller, the Palm Beach Sherriff and Fire Departments responded to the alarming threat by dispatching deputies and a HAZMAT team to Don Jr. and Kimberly Guilfoyle’s nine-million-dollar estate, which is only a few miles from the president’s Mar-a-Lago command center. The HAZMAT team temporarily cleared the house and took custody of the threatening note, photos of which Don Jr. released to the Daily Caller. Within hours, a spokesperson for Don Jr. suggested the white powder was benign, saying, “The test results of the substance came up inconclusive on what it was exactly, but officials on the scene do not believe it is deadly,” while Don Jr. called out the MSM’s blatant hypocrisy: “Clearly, if this happened to a prominent Democrat it wouldn’t be tolerated and would drive news coverage for weeks. The media would blame all Republicans and force them to answer for it, but since it’s me, radical haters on the left will largely get a free pass and the media will barely flinch,” he said, accurately summarizing the MSM’s attitude toward conservatives.
White Hats, though, have concerns that exceed the politicization of the threat, and they believe Don Jr. made a rookie mistake by notifying public authorities before first alerting his father to the ominous danger. Although the letter and mysterious powder could’ve come from a disgruntled, deranged Democrat or Woke liberal lunatic, White Hats, having reviewed photographs and video of the incident, believe that the sinister letter may have been part of a deeper Deep State plot to access Don Jr. and Kimberly’s home, for reasons yet undetermined.
Our source said that not all first responders were who they appeared to be. He claims that two people who entered the residence in HAZMAT gear were actually members of the CDC’s rapid response team and friends of the CDC’s maniacal ruler, Director Mandy Cohen, a villainous woman devoid of decency who has vowed to renew mandatory masking and COVID-19 vaccination programs.
According to our source, the two CDC members were in the home for 15 minutes, 10 of which they spent in areas with no camera coverage.
When asked how White Hats determined their identities, considering they were wearing protective clothing that obscured features and faces, our source said, “All I can say is we now can make that determination. And we’re 100% positive they’re CDC. How they got embedded there we don’t yet know.”
On Monday evening, General Smith personally updated President Trump on the development, asking him if he wanted White Hats to pursue the investigation. Our source said the president gave General Smith the green light.
“It’s no secret the CDC has a vendetta against President Trump. He’s played a part in the arrest and prosecution of many of them, and in the execution of Rochelle Walensky. It’s possible that since he’s so well protected, they’re seeking vengeance on his family. Right now all we have is theory, but hopefully we’ll know more soon,” our source said.

Empire Idea of the Week #1: Aura of Celestia
The Toborans existed as energy-based entities, struggling to interact with their surroundings. While their home world is barren in terms of resources, it radiated with massive magnetic energy. They evolved a unique symbiotic relationship with their planet's energy signature which allowed them to harness and manipulate it.
As they evolved they realized the importance of needing a physical presence to fully explore and utilize their home system's resources. After constructing their first suits to contain their essence, society quickly changed. The entered a golden age, constructing massive cities and wonders, including the Arc Furnace.
Their insatiable curiosity pushes them to the stars to meet others out there.

Note: Given this is the first post here I wanted to give a bit of a back story. My personal favorite part of Stellaris is creating and designing custom empire ideas. I've wanted to share them for awhile now and decided to finally do it. Hopefully everyone enjoys this and it helps inspire ideas of your own! I plan to post weekly with new ideas for awhile, depending on community feedback to the idea :)

2024.05.22 00:17 MagelansTrousrs Moving to a different state, should I change settings from OP to HH too?

I've been in OP for ten years in the Northeast. My wife got offered a job in Florida which she has accepted. I've done several interviews and still have more second/third round ones lined up the rest of this week but I feel I've already narrowed it down to two bases on commute times among other things.
My main concern is flexibility as I have two kids (1st grade and pre-K). Needing a schedule where I can get them easily if needed and either get them off the bus or on the bus depending on my wife's schedule is important. Current salary is $100k but that is also in MA compared to FL where there's no income tax.
1) Outpatient, they've said they would be flexible with scheduling. 15 minute commute. Would be close to my kids school. Initial offer of $90k but might be able to get a teeny more and 3 weeks PTO (I currently have 4 weeks where I am in NE) 2) Home Health. Never have done this before but have always heard flexibility is huge. I also hate bringing notes home and they said they try to have their therapist do notes at the same time which is great for me (I know some don't like this). Initial offer of $105 but they are supposed to get back to me tomorrow with a revised, potentially better offer. Unlimited PTO when given 30 days notice which would be good for things like kids dentist/doctors appts etc.
Plzzzhelp

2024.05.22 00:14 icecreamraider Part 1.5 - On Killing and Morality in War

On Killing and Morality in War.
I promised a follow-up to my yesterday’s post on more technical aspects of planning and executing a ground invasion. It’s coming – already started writing it… may or may not have time to finish it today.
For more context (and an “about me”) see the original post here: https://www.reddit.com/IsraelPalestine/comments/1cwvbna/the_realities_of_war_lets_kill_some_sacred_cows/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I’d like to start with a sidebar: a “personal message of sorts.” First, I appreciate all the supportive comments. Of course, there were a few with reading comprehension problems who took an issue with the concept that war can be quite a fun and exhilarating experience (despite the clear “do not recommend” theme throughout). I didn’t plan on writing this post, but felt prompted by some of the comments.
I see a lot of “moralizing” from certain characters who are convinced of their moral superiority and truly believe themselves to be the arbiters of human character.
Side Note: there are also plenty of decent, well-meaning folks who may disagree with one position or another… but do so from a thoughtful place, taking time to consider a counter-point. Nothing but respect to those. Freedom of disagreement is one of the liberties I value highly (a luxury people who live in Islamist enclaves don’t get). Regardless – nothing but respect to y’all. The world is a complicated place and many of your points I find valid, even if our conclusions may differ.
For the “wow… rape must also be fun for you… and murdering 12 million children” crowd”, I’d like to say the following: You, my friends, are among the most dangerous societal types, historically speaking. Seemingly intellectual, but lacking facts, context, and nuance – yet fully convinced of your moral and intellectual superiority. First of – congrats on being born in a place where being a moralizing peacenik is a viable option in life. Second – your “morals” just so happen to reflect the modern western moral code you were born into (and which you’ve done nothing yourself for to achieve). But, in other places, moralizing puritans like you keep the same character, but embrace a different set of “norms and morals”. In other words – a typical Islamist imam doesn’t sound much different than you in tone and conviction… his “holy book” just so happens to be Quaran rather than the ramblings of Norm Finklestein. And, of course, we’ve seen what tends to happen in other places where “anti-capitalist” and “anti-colonialist” moral puritans take hold – I was born at such a place. Let’s just say that the road from “I’m for the oppressed and anti-oppressors” to “we need to murder the reactionaries” is very short and easily crossed. And it’s always the most “righteously-outraged” who cross it first.

Anyways, back to topic of the post.
On Killing and Morality – Does Modern Combat Look like a “video game”?
I saw a comment or two that modern combat is too impersonal, looks like a video game, that it’s too easy for soldiers to kill innocents, etc., etc. I’ve also heard a similar argument from others, in unrelated circumstances.
To anyone thinking that – no, my friends. Killing people isn’t made easier by more lethal and remote weapons. I understand why it may seem that way. But, in many ways, it’s quite the opposite.
1. Military is just a mirror of its society. A military is a perfect representation of a society at large. Some soldiers will indeed be natural-born psychopaths who enjoy killing. But that’s a very tiny number – not any larger than in general population.
2. Bravado is Fake. Most younger soldiers will display a lot of bravado initially – pretend like violence doesn’t bother them (that’s why the military tries really hard to condition new recruits by trivializing the idea of “killing” – but it’s never successful).
3. The Reality. The truth is – killing shocks most soldiers to their core, no matter how much they try to suppress it and put on a brave war fighter face.
4. Understanding “Anger”. Often time you see what seems obvious anger among soldiers after a firefight. The easy explanation is the simple “of course they hate their enemy”. Except that’s not why they’re truly angry.
5. “Remote” Killing. From experience, I’ll tell you this – dealing with a remote target is much easier in the sense that it’s not as “scary”. But it’s much more difficult emotionally and mentally – though a commander will never show it to their troops. That decision takes much longer and raises many more doubts than responding to a nearby target that’s actively trying to kill your guys.
6. Why the young men and women in IDF went to war. I don’t want to start a debate about history of the region – it’s a different topic and it doesn’t change the practical realities my posts are meant to address. From a soldier’s point of view – it looks very simple:
That’s it. That’s the mindset. It’s really that simple for the guys and gals rolling into Gaza. The rest of what gets discussed on wester social media is just philosophical circle jerk to their ears.

Anyhow… I bet I’ll soon hear from the peaceniks who’ll tell me that they’d never do that, that they’d be conscious objectors, etc… To them, I’d like to ask that while you take a break from fellating yourself, don’t forget to thank the guys and the girls who do the dirty jobs so you don’t have to
And… while at it, don’t forget to apologize to the next generation of Arab girls who will be sold into a “marriage” to some fat, old toothless f*ck because some fat, comfortable hippie with an ivy league diploma believes that child rape is just an indigenous form of cultural expression and our interference with it is “colonialism”.
All for now. Peace, everybody. I'll be back with the promised post on "how to invade a place if you must".
