2024.05.22 02:32 DrJWilson /r/anime Awards Essay and Video Contest Results!

Hello!

At the beginning of the year, we kicked off a series of events to celebrate... well a number of things! The subreddit growth is insane, so we hit 10 million subscribers while we were just finishing up celebrating 9 million...

But we started that celebration with a new Essay and Video contest! I'm happy to announce that after a long series of deliberations, we're ready to announce your winners! First and foremost, I want to congratulate everyone on producing such wonderful submissions. I and the other judges absolutely enjoyed reading/watching them, and I hope this encourages you to create more. I'm always here for what limited guidance I can give.
Reminder: Prizes are funded through Reddit's Community Funds program! The top 3 positions will receive gift cards to Crunchyroll's (formerly RightStuf) store! Please, I would love to see what you're going to purchase with them.

Writing Contest

1st Place: In This Corner of the World: Agency, The Past, and The Paths We Did Not Choose by VelaryonAu

VelaryonAu hits it out of the park with this essay. It stays true to the theme, starting strong and continuing that quality until the end. Much like Suzu's life, it expertly moves from point to point, example to example, all the while using succinct and pleasant prose. We all enjoyed every second of reading this piece and we think you will too. VelaryonAu wins a $200 gift card.

2nd Place: Gunslinger Girl and Confronting the Posthuman by paukshop

Paukshop delivers an essay that exemplifies the reason why we keep the themes for these contests vague, with it being a clever examination of a beloved classic under a unique lens. This is probably one of the best structured essays we received, clearly laying out step by step how each relationship in the show may evoke different interpretations of the posthuman. Its broad coverage and almost academic nature earn it 2nd place, winning a $100 gift card.

3rd Place: Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Eternal by baquea

As expected from a fan of Madoka Magica, and much like the show itself, this essay is dense with meaning. Baquea's prose ebbs and flows—sentences sometimes stretching out into labyrinthian snakes or curving back around into pointed statements. Regardless of what you think about the show or the writing style, this essay makes itself heard. Its clear passion and depth of knowledge towards the subject earns it a $50 gift card.

Videos

1st Place: Heavenly Delusion: Body Horror, Gender, & Transformation by thedman1954

This video is not only laser focused, it utilizes the video format pretty near to its fullest potential. The subject matter is exciting and engrossing, and it serves to be a vessel for the feel of the show itself. Editing is a strong point, using slick transitions and title cards to further illustrate key points. A nearly flawless entry earns it first place and a $200 gift card.

2nd Place: [Blue Reflection Ray]( I Want to Change!) by thegajumaru

Thegajumaru's "[Blue Reflection Ray] I Want to Change!" starts off in a peculiar way, but I think one of the best things about the video format is that you can experiment and be eclectic and maybe... go off on a completely non-anime tangent about Star Wars before jumping into your real topic of Blue Reflection Ray. The most notable thing about this video is just how watchable it is. It flows from point to point with ease—both the editing and script leading the viewer along, almost unbeknownst to them just how entertained they are along the way. This addicting quality earns thegajumaru a $100 gift card.

3rd Place: Grief in To your Eternity by paukshop

Pauk digs into a core concept of To Your Eternity in this video, following the throughline of our main character almost literally carries his grief for his friends and family with him. My personal notes on the video mention quote, "it's quite to the point and the point is strong," and in a sea of videos that are stretched out as long as they can for monetary's sake—it's a breath of fresh air. One of the hardest things to do in a contest like that is coming up with a concept that fits/subverts the theme, but pauk combining literal as well as metaphorical transformations, as well as adding a small personal touch, really elevates this video. He gets a nice $50 gift card for his efforts (in addition to his essay win!).
That's that! Congratulations to our winners, but also to everyone who managed to sneak in a submission. Please view the round-up of EVERYTHING here. I love seeing well thought out posts to the sub, whether that be in essay or video format. If you have any ideas on how to encourage this content, let me or the rest of the mod team know. Oh and also, if you submitted an entry and would like some brief notes on what we thought, message the moderators or PM me!
Winners, expect to receive a PM asking to confirm some information, and then accept your prize!
Thanks all!

2024.05.22 02:31 thetrillgod Why don’t ninjas typically use chakra for more everyday, mundane tasks?

IIRC, Hashirama used wood style to basically spawn the initial housing and infrastructure of Konoha.
Now when I say mundane, I mean absolutely menial tasks. Lol. Imagine a ninja with water and earth style chakra nature being, say, constipated and also afflicted with kidney stones; would it not stand to reason that they could modify a jutsu to “regulate their flow” or break up the stones? Like on some “Secret Jutsu: Alternate Boruto Stream” type sh-t
Could a user of wind style chakra nature use a jutsu to manually breathe if their lung function were to cease somehow? Or something as simple to create a dramatic breeze for their entrance.
Why would Asuma light a cigarette with a lighter when he could use fire style and just blow a tiny flame onto it? I’m sure it wouldn’t even make a dent in a jonin’s chakra reserve. And better that than spending money on a new lighter every few weeks. We know most ninjas pay barely helps them scrape by.
Speaking of cigarettes, since Hashirama could create various plant life, could he use his wood style kekkei genkai to yield tobacco crops and create an industry for the sake of generating profit for the Land of Fire? There are plenty of other characters with this bad habit.
That filler crystal release girl could’ve had a booming jewelry business
Kimimaro could’ve rearranged his bone structure to a typical human so Orochimaru could treat him and then shifted everything back later
If a piece of ninja tech needed a recharge couldn’t a lightning style user recharge with their chakra instead of using actual electricity? I do understand lightning release pales in comparison to natural lightning but it should be plenty for a lithium battery.
If any incidents such as these ever appeared in the series, can y’all drop some references?
…besides when Naruto made ramen with a rasengan

2024.05.22 02:30 AutoModerator r/piercing rule spotlight, rule number four

Hey everyone,
Although we do our best to make the rules of this subreddit as clear as we can within the characters limits, we notice that sometimes there’s some confusion or misunderstanding about the rules.
In this post we want to clarify the most common misconceptions about rule number 4, comments about appearance and/or any sexual comments are not allowed
Zero tolerance for comments about appearance that are unrelated to the poster's piercing(s). For example physical features, perceived flaws, beauty and/or any sexual comments. Offending users will be banned.
This subreddit is about piercings and we want all the people posting here to show off their piercings feel secure and safe in that the only topic of discussion will be their piercings.
Misconception number one, the rule only applies to unkind, rude, insulting or lewd comments not related to the featured piercing(s)
Wrong. the rule applies to all comments unrelated to the featured piercings. It doesn’t matter if your comment was meant in kindness or as a compliment. Simply assume that the people posting on a piercing subreddit want to show of and talk about piercings and they are fully capable of finding suitable subreddits if they want to receive comments about their appearance.
Misconception number two the rule is gendered.
Wrong, just like piercings aren’t gendered, neither is this rule. It doesn’t matter what gender OP has, or what the gender is of the one commenting, the rule applies to and for everyone. If you break down the demographics of this subreddit most likely there are more female identifying posters then male identifying posters, but all deserve to feel safe in knowing that their piercings are the only topic of discussion.
Can I ask……?
Yes, you may ask what brand or colour the lipstick is that’s visible in the photo.
Yes, you may ask what hair products someone uses for their curls, how they got their eye liner so perfect, who the tattoo artist is of that amazing tattoo that’s visible in the photo or what watch brand that is or how the cat is called.
Rule of thumb, if it’s visible in the photo and it is something OP applied or added to themselves you may (politely) inquire about it.
The advice we actually dislike to give, because it shouldn’t be needed. If you are posting a photo, consider (temporarily) disabling DM’s. Of course moderators can and certainly will act on comments that break this rule (so don't hesitate to use the report button) but we cannot intervene on chat and DM. But if needed you can report those as well.

[report DM](https://reddit.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058752951-How-do-I-report-a-private-message-)
We regularly see comments noticing how kind and welcoming this community is, and we want to thank you for creating and contributing to that atmosphere. As moderators we try our best to keep it that way but we do rely on your help for that. So if you see a post or comment that doesn’t follow the rules of this subreddit, please hit the report button. We simply cannot read every post or comment so we rely on your input to keep this community awesome.

There's something undeniably comforting about the rich scent of coffee beans mingling with the sound of soft jazz in the background, creating a sensory experience that awakens the soul. It's moments like these that remind us to savor the simple pleasures in life and find solace in the midst of chaos.
Speaking of unexpected delights, have you ever stumbled upon a hidden gem of an anime that completely captivates your imagination? The beauty of anime lies in its ability to transport viewers to fantastical worlds filled with vibrant characters and captivating storylines, offering a much-needed escape from the mundanity of everyday life. Whether it's the thrill of embarking on a grand adventure or the poignancy of witnessing heartfelt moments of human connection, anime has a way of touching the heart and sparking the imagination in ways that are truly magical.
But let's not forget the joy of getting lost in a good book, where words become portals to distant lands and characters feel like old friends. There's something inherently comforting about curling up with a well-loved novel and immersing oneself in its pages, exploring new worlds and experiencing life through the eyes of fascinating characters. From epic fantasies to heartwarming romances, the possibilities are endless, and the journey is always worth taking.
And what about the mesmerizing beauty of starlit skies on a clear summer night? 2024.05.22 02:26 weirdtotoroobsession (F4A) Inuyasha Inspired Roleplay!

“You BROKE the jewel?”
———
Hi, all! I’m Ollie, and I’m been rewatching Inuyasha and I’ve been dying to create a fantasy world inspired (basically the plot…) by the world with our own twist.
A woman falls into the feudal era, being the reincarnation of some mythical figure or a previous human. She’s met with a half demon after a powerful jewel, but the two are attacked by another demon and mistakenly, the girl shatters the jewel and the two go on a quest to reunite the shards. (AKA… the plot of Inuyasha). I think it would be fun to do our own twist on the story!
A few rules and regulations!
• I’m 20 years old. • Please be communicative! I’m autistic and have bipolar, so sometimes I suck at replying but I usually make this known. • I like to make friends! I’ll send playlists, pinboards, love making headcanons! It’s hard to invest in a roleplay if I struggle to connect with the other person! • I primarily write female or nonbinary characters against males. I don’t care about your gender out of character!
—-
Now that that’s out of the way, I’m excited to hear from you all!

2024.05.22 02:21 Runieman [Online][5e][Other][RP Heavy][New-Player-Friendly][Long Term][Homebrew][18+] - The Continent of Altaria - Seeking 1 Player

I made this post the other day however have had another player drop out with potentially another one, I am looking for an additional player. MUST have a microphone.

As a heads up The first session is tomorrow Thursday 22/05/24 11AM AEST (I know it may be fast and I apologise)

Welcome everyone!
I'm a relatively new DM who has had some very brief experience running as a DM during my highschool years and have recently become engrossed back in the world of DnD. I have been experimenting over the past several months with running a game with some old friends and have been having a blast, due to the long gaps between sessions I am setting up a second campaign alongside my homebrew world of Altaria!
The game is going to a traditional medieval fantasy/classic adventuring tale within the lands of Altaria, with a focus on political intrigue and consequences between kingdoms which can be influenced by the players and their actions. A focus will be on role play. I am continuously updating the lore of the world with new organisations and locations. For your commitment I will always try to create a handcrafted map or battlescene for the session.
I have 2 friends who are already keen to join and am looking for another 1 players to join along.
Session Outline
I plan on running a D&D campaign via a mix of Foundry VTT and discord. The sessions will run most likely every week, Due to my employment in emergency services my roster is constantly changing making setting a specific/regular session difficult and will require everyone to be slightly flexible.
I will try to have sessions set up every week or 2, most likely on Wednesdays or fridays, session start times ranging from ~1100-1700 AEST. Depending on everyone's availability. the Session length itself I am aiming for is ~4 hours with a break in between.
I am planning on having this be a long-term campaign if you do not believe you can commit please reconsider applying
New players are most certainly welcome! If you need I will help guide you both with setting up characters, teaching you rules and how to use the programs.
World Setting/Description
Discovering Altaria, a continent veiled in mystery and allure, marked a pivotal moment for explorers from the old world. Millennia ago, these adventurers first set foot in what is now known as Wavecrest, but it was the fertile expanses of the mainland that truly captivated their ambitions. Cities and towns emerged along bustling trade routes, flourishing rapidly and soon overshadowing the initial settlement on Wavecrest. The burgeoning civilizations reached heights of prosperity previously unimaginable, until the world was shaken by the "Great Evanescence." Communication with the old world abruptly ceased; ships that set sail to reconnect vanished into the void, sparking fears of a catastrophic demise of the old continent or the wrath of divine or malevolent forces.
In the ensuing chaos, the Eldorian Empire rose to prominence, leveraging its control over fertile lands and the allegiance of migrating nobles and craftsmen to establish a new order. This era of uneasy peace, upheld by Eldoria's military dominance, persisted for centuries. However, complacency and neglect, coupled with the earth-shattering discovery of a new mystical metal, Atherium in the Mountains of Last Ridge within the provence of Verdantia, set the stage for upheaval. This arcane material, promising wealth and power, ignited the flames of envy, particularly in the eyes of the waning Eldorian Empire main counties. The empire's attempts to monopolize Atherium sparked a fierce rebellion by the now new Kingdom of Verdantia, plunging the realm into a devastating conflict known as "The Great Sundering." The war raged, reshaping landscapes and redefining borders, with neither side securing a decisive victory.
The stalemate was broken only when the combined forces of Stoneshield, the Timorian Realm, and Wavecrest intervened, presenting an ultimatum that ultimately led to a grudging peace. In the treaty that followed, Eldoria relinquished control of the western territories, paving the way for the formation of the "Three Leagues," to manage distribution of Atherium through the continent, while Verdantia gained the right to retain control of Atherium production and retaining its new found sovereignty. Although peace has prevailed for five years, unease simmers as reports of raids along the kingdoms' borders escalate.
Amidst political tensions, the presence of magical and monstrous beings adds layers of complexity to the realm. While sightings are rare in civilized areas, the increasing frequency of such encounters has prompted many to form adventuring groups or guilds. Magic, revered for its power, remains an uncommon and dangerous art, commanding respect and fear in equal measure. Those who dare to underestimate its potency often face dire consequences.
In this intricate tapestry of alliances, rivalries, and arcane mysteries, Altaria stands as a realm teeming with potential adventures, challenges, and untold stories, waiting to be discovered by those brave enough to venture into its depths.
Rules
18+ content is allowed within reason - Gore and NSWF are allowed. However, nothing extreme eg. sexual assault, rape etc.
No PVP, Exceptions depend on the situation and both parties must consent.
Be respectful towards myself and other players, Try to be a team player, do not steal or ruin the game for everyone else (that includes fudging roles)
No meta-gaming, please try to put yourself into the mind of your character. try not to yell out at other players during their turn.
Let me know if there is an issue, dont let it brew. whether it be from something I'm doing, or if it is another player. This is a game where we are all trying to have fun and I will try to make it the best I can.
Ultimately the rules are up to my discretion, I may make a decision in a situation that is not strictly allowed for either comedic value or for the fun of the game (TLDR Rule of Cool)
Please try to show up on time for our sessions, I know life can get in the way. If something does occur or you have another event please let me know beforehand. if you frequently do not show or respond I will take it as a sign of your disinterest and remove you from the party. I will give you fair warning before this occurs.
Know your characters abilities and how they work, if you are new again I can run through it with you before the session.
DEATH RULES - I am going to take inspiration from Critical role regarding death rules, if a character dies there is going to be a chance that they stay dead. They are able to be revived however it will be both an expensive and laborious process with a chance of failure! (remember retreat is always an option!)
I will not be fudging roles, I believe that the game becomes much more enjoyable if there is a chance of failure, creating suspense and risk.
RP will be a key element of the game, however you can't justify a blatantly evil action as "its what my character would do"
Pay attention when playing, I am putting extensive effort into creating this world and game for you, this includes in combat try to have your turn prepared before it reaches you.

Kamen Rider 555 20th: Paradise Regained interviews part 2: Shinichiro Shirakura (Producer) and Ryuuta Tasaki (Director)
Part 1: Kento Handa (Takumi Inui) and Yuria Haga (Mari Sonoda)
https://preview.redd.it/fafa1xy6bv1d1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=7a66307c652ce75d4cbf4e46dfae53e0b7ea4ee9
First of all, could you tell us about the background behind the planning of Kamen Rider 555?
Shirakura: Until the previous work, Kamen Rider Ryuki, I didn't think that the Kamen Rider series would continue as it has now. Following Moero!! Robocon, we aired Kamen Rider Kuuga and Kamen Rider Agito, but that time slot was originally the broadcast time slot for Metal Heroes. So at the time, I was thinking "we'll continue Kamen Rider for at least one more series, and then go back to Metal Heroes or Kabutack-type series". However, Ryuki became a hit, and I thought "maybe we should continue the Kamen Rider series in the future", so we created 555. So, with a focus on going back to basics, we set up a modern enemy organization called Smart Brain to replace Shocker, and the Kamen Rider side also became centered around "a very strong single protagonist".
Tasaki: It's true that at the time, I had a feeling that "this series will probably continue", something I hadn't felt up until Ryuki.
I think 555 had many aspects that set the standard for subsequent works, such as the close-up action direction of the item's gimmick.
Tasaki: 555 feels like a further evolution of Ryuki's directing of (focusing the camera on) setting the card and unleashing the special move.
Shirakura: It feels good to see the process of replacing the Mission Memory every time. I think that's a clever piece of direction.
How did you come up with the idea of creating a drama that transcends the good and evil with the three Kamen Riders and the three Orphnochs?
Shirakura: During a discussion with (Toshiki) Inoue-dai-sensei about "returning to basics", he said it was common knowledge that "the original first Kamen Rider was originally one of the Shocker monsters, but that isn't really portrayed in the series". He felt that the relationship between the many Shocker monsters and Kamen Rider, who's a grasshopper man, should've been depicted more in the drama. However, when Dai-sensei said "I'm going to write three Orphnochs as the other main characters", I thought "Are you sure you can do that?" (laughs)
Tasaki: Agito and Ryuki didn't really depict the story of kaijin, they were simply treated as monsters. Therefore, 555, which depicts the story of the monster side, was breaking new ground, and I personally looked forward to each script written by Inoue-san.
In the second half of 555, it was revealed that Takumi Inui was also an Orphnoch.
Tasaki: The first time we revealed this was in Kamen Rider 555: Paradise Lost, but the scene where Takumi transforms into the Wolf Orphnoch elicited actual screams of surprise from the audience. Even though the first Kamen Rider was also a cyborg of Shocker. I felt that the basics of Kamen Rider were forgotten because of the illusion that "justice is right and evil is wrong".
Shirakura: It was decided from the beginning that Takumi would be an Orphnoch, and hints were shown many times in the series from around the time Keitarou appeared. We made basic settings such as "only Orphnochs can use the (Faiz) transformation belt", and from my point of view, I was thinking "is it okay to spoil things like this?". But the people watching at the time didn't seem to notice much. Even in an interview back then, when I said "it was decided from the start", people didn't believe me and were asking me "Are you sure?" (laughs)
Tasaki: We were actually surprised that people were so surprised (laughs).
A large number of fans also participated as extras in Paradise Lost.
Shirakura: We decided that with 10,000 people, we could fill Saitama Super Arena, so we recruited extras from the general public. Before 555, we had to send round-trip postcards to apply for extras, but if we had to collect such a large number of extras, it would have taken a huge amount of money to send back the replies. But around the time of 555, I realized that I could use the Internet for recruitment. However, at that time there were no cloud servers like there are today, so we built our own powerful server within Toei.
Tasaki: The server often went down every time the broadcast ended, so I thought it would be difficult if there were a flood of applications.
Shirakura: We received over 90,000 applications and 11,000 people participated, despite the harsh condition of "9-hour endurance filming". Since that many people would gather at Saitama Super Arena, we went around to the nearby shops and other places to say hello in advance. We even asked JR (Japan Railways Group) if they could increase the number of trains, but they turned down the extra service (laughs).
Wasn't it difficult to shoot with such a large number of people?
Shirakura: We shot scenes that required a large number of people in the morning, assuming that some people might not be able to endure the long filming or might get bored and leave halfway through the shoot. However, most of them stayed until the end.
Tasaki: I think the announcement that there would be a greeting from the cast at the end was also effective. During filming, we had two cameramen enter the audience seats and take documentary-style shots of the extras' expressions. The result was an uplifting video reminiscent of the documentary film Festival of Nations about the Berlin Olympics.
The final episode of the TV series ended with the King of Orphnoch not completely destroyed, and a development that hinted at Takumi's death. Was this flow decided from the beginning?
Shirakura: It was decided from the beginning that Takumi would be an Orphnoch, so I didn't think of an ending where he would "wipe out the Orphnochs and everyone is happy". I think that in Dai-sensei's mind, the moment the character Keitarou Kikuchi was born, he was determined to make him the goal (of the story). Keitarou is an ordinary person among the Kamen Rider heroes, the heroine Mari, and the three Orphnochs. Depicting the story of "the most ordinary person being the greatest" with such depth that it's like completely devoid of mediocrity is Dai-sensei's aesthetic, and what makes him amazing.
In this issue, we also spoke to Kento Handa and Yuria Haga. What were your impressions of them back then?
Shirakura: Handa-kun was only 18 years old at the time, but he already was very dignified. Before filming started, he was still living in Kobe, so he came to Shinjuku and we met. As we walked through the streets of Shinjuku, he explained to me "That's the ○○ Building, and that's the XX Building, and it has such a history". When I asked him "You know a lot, have you already been here many times?", he replied "this is my first time in Shinjuku", which surprised me (laughs). Even back then, I was a huge building fanatic.
Tasaki: Yuria-chan has a huge fear of heights, and she was also afraid of going up to places even a little high. I remember it very well because I have never seen anyone else so afraid of heights.
Both of them said "Back then, Director Tasaki didn't get mad at us".
Tasaki: I certainly don't remember being angry at them. But the reason they don't think they've been scolded is because that time Go Ayano (Aki Sawada/Spider Orphnoch) was scolded by director (Hidenori) Ishida has become so famous that they probably were simply thinking "we're not getting scolded that much" (laughs).
Shirakura: In order to train his actors, Ishida-san is acting like he is "flying into a rage" in a very easy-to-understand way. But Director Tasaki doesn't get angry easily, so maybe they just didn't notice (laughs). In fact, when Director Tasaki's language becomes more polite on set, it's proof that he's angry. Something like "the director is ending his sentences with -desu! He's infuriated!!!" (laughs).
Tasaki: They were still teenagers at the time, so there was no point in getting angry at them. But I often got angry at (Mitsuru) Karahashi (Naoya Kaido). He's the type of person who wants to be scolded (laughs).
Toshiki Inoue also appeared in the final episode as a construction site supervisor.
Tasaki: He had an aura that ordinary people don't have, and he was good at acting. But we've had to do several retakes. When he appeared on Avatarou Sentai Donbrothers, he talked about his memories of appearing on 555.
Shirakura: He said "It's tough being an actor because you have to wait a long time" (laughs). He also said "Directors are on set longer than that, so you'd get even more bored, right?", so if he hadn't had that experience on set back then, he might have said "I want to be a director, too!" one day (laughs).
Now, let me ask you about the new work Kamen Rider 555 20th: Paradise Regained. What was the background behind this project?
Shirakura: It all started when I heard that Handa-kun, Haga-san, and (Kouhei) Murakami-kun wanted to do it. If they wanted to do it, there was no doubt that they would appear. What's more, Director Tasaki and Dai-sensei were both working on Donbrothers, so I didn't have to gather all the staff (laughs). After Donbrothers ended, I directly said (to Dai Sensei) "Next is 555!" However, I was worried about what would happen if he still had a Donbrothers feel in him, and that Takumi Inui became like Tarou Momoi (laughs). However, he flipped the switch perfectly and wrote a story that was truly 555-like. In fact, I might have had more of Donbrothers left in me (laughs).
Tasaki: No, this work was made possible because Shirakura-san had 555 in him. Personally, I went into Paradise Regained following the flow from Donbrothers, and I was able to get into the process smoothly because I was able to speak frankly with Inoue-san.
What were you conscious of as it was a sequel to a TV series?
Shirakura: Our goal is to create a work that satisfies those who have been fans since the beginning, while also being worth watching for those who have only recently discovered 555. Handa-kun and other cast members, as well as the people who watched the show on TV at the time, have aged 20 years. I also wanted to give meaning to that time. As long as it's a filmed work, there's no point in simply having a reunion. "xx years anniversary" or "the cast wants to do it" might be triggers, but they alone are not reasons to move forward with a project. In this case, it also has a meaning as a one-off work called Paradise Regained.
Tasaki: I thought about whether to make it an "encore after the final chapter", or an "entrance to a new chapter" like Kamen Rider OOO 10th: Resurrection Core Medal. Having said that, it's also boring to make people who watch it get it too early. I tried to make sure that the story unfolded in a certain way so that by the time you watched it to the end, you would know in which category this story falls into.
Shirakura: 555 is originally a story about boys and girls whose future as humans was cut off and who become Orphnochs, and boys and girls who continue to live through life without becoming Orphnochs. But now, 20 years later, they are no longer boys and girls. That's why this sequel to 555 wasn't just a rehash, but became a story about adults.
Tasaki: The "story of boys and girls" depicted in 555 is played by Rena (Kuruma) and the other new characters. Though writing them in was also to declare that "Takumi and co. are no longer boys and girls", thanks to them, the 555 identity was maintained.
The Faiz Phone and Faiz Driver have also been updated to match the times.
Shirakura: I've been told by various people, including Bandai, that if I were to make 555 now, the transformation item would be a smartphone. In that case, I felt like I had do a new 555 work before a brand-new Kamen Rider who transforms with a smartphone came out on Sundays (laughs).
Did Shirakura-san give any specific orders?
Shirakura: I left the story to Dai-sensei, so my orders were for the structure of the story. How to depict the 20 years. And I don't mean how many years after the story is set, but how to incorporate the fact that the actors and audience are 20 years older compared to back then.
How do you feel about the cast compared to 20 years ago?
Tasaki: As expected, everyone has grown, and each character has matured inside them like wine. That Handa-kun and co. took the initiative and said they wanted to do it means that they must have allowed Takumi, Mari, and Masato to live with them for the past 20 years. So when it came to preparing their roles, we didn't have much to ask them, and they were able to play the aged Takumi, Mari, and Masato in their own unique way. Karahashi also did some strange things behind the scenes, like making the T-shirts and aprons for the costumes himself (laughs).
Were any of the young cast members who appeared in this work fans of 555 back then?
Shirakura: Rui Yanagawa, who plays Hisao, has been watching the show since he was a child. He said that Delta was his favorite Kamen Rider.
Tasaki: You have to really like 555 to be a Delta fan (laughs).
Shirakura: Also, he wasn't a cast member, but there happened to be another drama being filmed nearby at the time of filming, and the actor who played the lead role in that drama came to watch. When I asked him about it, he said he was a big fan of 555 and was thrilled to see the real Takumi and Mari (laughs).
Why do you think 555 continues to be so popular?
Tasaki: I don't know why, because each work is like my own child to me.
Shirakura: I think the character of Takumi Inui, played by Kento Handa, was very appealing. And every character in the show was acting weird, either intentionally or unconsciously. In the first place, it's weird to write 555 and read it as Faiz (laughs). Despite these strange aspects, Bandai created extremely stylish toy packaging, made a special light-emitting suit made for filming, and was extremely particular about the opening video. I don't think this work would have been made under normal circumstances (laughs). There was a moment when I suddenly calmed down and thought "is this really going to be okay?" But when I saw the scene in the opening where Takumi started walking away after getting his hair cut by Mari, I felt the extraordinary aura of the main character. That's when I became confident that "this is going to work!!!"
Lastly, please give a message to the fans who are waiting for the new movie.
Tasaki: In addition to the cast and staff from the TV series, Action Director Sanshirou Wada and Kota Nakamura, who was in charge of filming extras for Paradise Lost as a camera assistant at the time, were in charge of cinematography. New powers have also been added. This is a work filmed by such members, so please look forward to it.
Shirakura: Rather than "please go watch", I want to say "you have to go watch". And the more you love 555, the more you may be unable to see the screen due to tears. I too lost the ability to see halfway through watching it. However, it was made so that you can enjoy it even if you don't know 555. I would be happy if you could watch the TV series or Paradise Lost after watching this movie.

2024.05.22 02:17 Masqurade-King What Frozen 2 Possibly Could Have Been (part 2)

Hello!
So, I decided to make a part 2 because my original post ended up being more theory based and stuff, which resulted in it getting to be to similar to F2. I really did not like the story I came up with, especially the ending with Arendelle and Northuldra combining, and Anna and Elsa being representatives of one of the people each. I mean, if you really think about it, how was that even supposed to work at all? How were to completely different people supposed to even coexist in the same town. One was pretty modern, while the other people lived in tents and took care of animals all day.
Anyways, I did have more ideas that did not fit in before because I was trying to figure out what the creators were going for, so here they are. Plus! I also thought of my own Frozen 2 story idea I would love to share!
First Idea! Elsa and her learning not to shut the door!
Now, we all know this is pointless. She learned the lesson in Frozen, and OFA showed she was getting better. I do think there is potential of a sequel fully tackling this bad habit of Elsa's and finally showing she has gotten over it, but it has to be done in a way that does not set her character back to zero. I think maybe having her slip up near the end, which results in something bad happening is a good idea instead. Another thing that needs to happen is that Elsa has to work to make things right afterwards. It cannot be another, "Elsa makes a mistake by pushing Anna away, resulting in something bad happening and Anna having to fix it", kind of story. No, have Elsa see she made a mistake and try to fix it herself. This way it is actually clear that she has learned her lesson. Just like she tried to do in OFA.
Another thing I noticed with Elsa and her habit of pushing people away, is how Anna responds to it. In OFA when Elsa once again slams the door in Anna's face, Anna does not push it. Instead Anna leaves and tries to solve the problem herself by going up to the attic and try and find a tradition for Elsa and her.
I know we all focus on how Elsa tries to do everything herself, but I think Anna has the same problem, just in a different way. She wants to do things together but as soon as she meets resistance or is denied, Anna then just goes at it alone. I am picturing Elsa's coronation where Anna tries to get Elsa to say why the gates cannot just stay open, but Elsa jerks away and shouts it just can't, and Anna leaves. Anna has been rejected all her life, so it makes sense if even know that Elsa has opened up, Anna is still afraid of pushing things to far, just like she ended up doing at the end of Elsa's coronation which resulted in Elsa's powers getting revealed.
Another thing about Elsa and pushing everyone away, it is not just that she tries to do things herself, but also that she just gives up. If something feels hopeless to Elsa, she shuts down. But nothing ever seems hopeless to Anna, so she ends up foolhardily trying to solve it by herself.
So, when it comes to the story, I am imagining Anna and Elsa go on an adventure, but as the movie goes on, Elsa loses more and more faith until she finally gives up. Anna argues with her that they are almost there, but Elsa says enough and walks away. Anna becomes determined and sets out by herself but quickly is in danger. Elsa learns about this and realizes it is because of what she had done, not only giving up, but also not even trying to explain her reasoning to Anna as well. Elsa rushes and she saves Anna. She apologizes to Anna and tells her that she can rely on her more now. Anna in turn also apologizes for rushing into things to much.
And now for my second idea, which has to do with Olaf and Kristoff!
So, in OFA, Olaf, blow up Kristoff's sled. So that means Kristoff is currently unable to do his job. For Kristoff's story, I think he should be working to try and pay for a new sled. Anna tries to insist on paying for a new one, but Kristoff refuses. He does not just want to live off of Anna and Elsa's wealth, and he takes pride in the hard work he does as an ice harvester. So Kristoff gets a job. This I think is a much better thing for Kristoff to do, instead of just trying to propose.
As for Olaf, he has a character ark about responsibility. He feels bad about destroying Kristoff's sled and tries to get a job himself. And he also ends up being the one who tells Elsa that Anna went out on her own. Anna had asked him for help, and then told him not to tell Elsa, which resulted in making Olaf feel torn. On one hand, Anna had asked him not to tell, so he does not want to betray her trust. But on the other hand, he knows that Elsa should be told that Anna ran away. In the end, he realizes it is his responsibility to make sure everyone is safe, and Anna clearly is not safe, so he goes to tell Elsa.
Well that is all the ideas I had, based off of what is set up in OFA.
I do think a sequel should tackle more about Anna and Elsa's traumatic childhood so they can become closer, and that dealing with how their parents raised them is probably the best next option. And I think Anna and Elsa would want to somehow become closer with their subjects.
As for my rewrite idea. I am going to create another post that is dedicated just to it. It is going to be an outline of the story. I have a beginning and a really great ending, with some ideas for the middle, including song suggestions. So look forward to it. Plus, it has nothing to do with F2!
Her is a little bit about what it is going to be about. So, has anyone else been getting all of those North Sea short videos on YouTube or Tick Tock? Showing all those big ships and all the large and dangerous waves? I was watching them, and briefly remembered that Elsa also crossed a sea. That sea was called the Dark Sea, and it was nothing compared to what was being shown of the North Sea. I mean, there were video's of whorl pools, and tornados, humongous waves, and even lightning striking the water. Not to mention the sea is supposed to be very foggy as well. I saw one video where it was just a huge wall of fog, and a ship slowly sailing and disappearing into it. I don't know if that was real or CGI, but it looked so threatening and cool!
So! for my Frozen 2 story, Anna and Elsa are going on a high waters adventure! And what are they doing? They are searching for their parents lost ship!
I think being on a ship surrounded by dangerous waters, would actually keep everyone on an even playing field. Elsa knows she cannot use her powers carelessly, or she might end up damaging the ship. For instance, if a giant wave came crashing towards the ship, Elsa cannot just freeze it, because then it would be like a giant iceberg hitting the ship instead of just water. And even if the ship sank and she froze the entire ocean, then what? She would be stranded in the middle of the ocean and would have to walk to land, which would be miles and miles away.
Kristoff would probably be a big help to the crew. He is big and really strong, not to mention is used to cold weather and risking his life for his job, so he adjusts to being on a ship really quickly.
And Anna has been shown to be really nimble and can climb anything, so she ends up helping a lot as well.
The main conflict is going to be with the ships captain. He feels like the journey is pointless as there is no guaranty they can even find Agnarr and Iduna's ship. Plus he has sailed these seas for years and knows how dangerous they are, so taking the queen and princess on this journey is something he really does not want to do. He is constantly butting heads with Elsa, especially in authority, because even if she is queen, this is his ship and his crew. Elsa in turn is also struggling with her confidence in this journey. She starts of strong and really wanting to find her parents ship, but as the waters become more dangerous, Elsa's hope of reaching the end dwindles as well. Anna on the other hand truly believes they will find their parents ship. And finally, Kristoff, who has gotten a job on this ship is trying to keep the peace. He knows how much this journey means to Anna and Elsa, but he also does not want them to get hurt, and he also does not want to lose the job he finally managed to get.
Well, that is all I will say. What do you think? What should I call it? Definitely not Frozen 2. I was thinking Journey of the Frozen Sea, or The Frozen North Sea.

2024.05.22 02:10 rallypat Game Translations with in tact story and names?

Hey, I tried looking around but didn’t see anything. Rockman.exe was the first subtitled anime I ever watched back in 2002 when I was 12 yo, so naturally I’m accustomed to the Japanese names of all the characters. Unfortunately, to me the localized names are nuclear cringe. It’s physically painful to see Netto referred to as “Lan” and Enzan referred to as “Chaud”. Has anyone created a translation patch of the games with all the names in tact and any censorship removed? I’ve never gotten to play the series itself.
TIA.

2024.05.22 02:08 throwaways1981 VBA script to remove 'invisible' characters from a string data set

I am working with a data set which needs some formatting. The string data shows bunch of blanks (top row as example).. When I wrote VB script to remove extra spaces, it didnt work. I tested the script with dummy string that i created and it worked exactly as intended. An example of issue is below. Top text is the input data. I found that the space is likely not a space but perhaps an ascii character although I am not sure (see second row squares, which is top row but font is symbol). I need a VB script to strip out these "blanks / ascii" characters from a large dataset. Hope the description is clear.

2024.05.22 02:06 ItsOnlyBread [Online][Other][Bi-Weekly][Tuesday][12:00PM][CST] First Time Running Monsterhearts 2!! Looking for 4-5 Players

Ayo,
My name is Bread (He/Him) 23 years old. I've been wanting to run Monsterhearts 2 ever since I first learned about it 2 years ago. I attempted to way back when but I was nowhere near experienced enough to run this game how it called for. I needed hard rails or else I was lost. However now after playing and Dming a bunch of different systems and working out how I am as a game master, I think I'm ready to dive in. I will most likely make mistakes and it won't be perfect, however, I feel confident now that I can create a game that I can be proud of.
Some things to keep in mind: (Borrowed from another post I found)
•Keep Your Hearts Safe: Monsterhearts is a system that can deal with heavier topics, such as dysfunctional relationships, teen sexuality, coercive power, trauma, abuse, violence, and queer marginalization. It is a game that encourages us to dive deep into the psychology and mental psyche of the characters. We won't shy away from more difficult subjects and you should be warned of that.
•None May Pierce The Veil: While all I said above is true, we will also have firm red lines that will most likely be established in session 0. This is still a game, primarily intended to be fun. The players and MC will have their chances to express what they are comfortable or not comfortable with. Subjects that fall into the later category will either not be displayed at all in the game or be exclusively fade to black scenes.
Game Synopsis:
You are entering your senior year at River Fork High. Have you been there all 4 years? Are you a new student? Whatever you decide to be one thing is for sure. Your life is messy. Your life is complicated, along with everyone else in this small town we call Sinsdale, Illinois. This town has been around for hundreds of years. A once thriving town centered around the chopping and selling of the finest, and strongest wood in the United States has quickly turned into a shell of its former self. Although you most likely don't care about that. You're just trying to survive high school. The Bullies, the Jocks, the Nerds, the Popular kids. All in their own groups and in their own heads. Where will you find yourselves? Who will you relate to? Who will you try to be?
In any case, how will you fit into not only this school but the entire town? The town that never seemed quite right, that always seemed that no matter how hard or little you looked, it wasn't completely normal. Maybe that is why this particular phrase is used by the oldest or most weary occupants of Sinsdale: Be Back Before Ten.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While it may seem like I have the entire setting figured out, in reality, all I have figured out is the name of the town and a very brief history that can change. I have the name of the school, and a catchy tagline which depending on what we do in the game can become more real or just stay as it is.
At every step of the way, especially during session 0 I will be asking you questions to fill out the town and the school and overall the world. Im ultimately looking for players who will take risks and initiate drama in the messiest of senses. We will be collaborating in real-time to tell the exaggerated story of these monsters in teen form and if that sounds like a story you are wanting to be a part of, feel free to apply!
-We will be using Roll20 to roll.
-This game is 18+ Only
-I am leaning towards not allowing custom skins but am still mulling it over.
If all that sounds good to you. Please fill out the form here and I will get back to you when I can to talk over voice! https://forms.gle/Zc2tGsqYUPvd9c4d7

Hi, I made a coat in blender and rigged it to the UE5 skeleton, in unreal the bone hierarchy of the coat is identical to the UE5 manny one.
In my character's blueprint, I've created a skeletal mesh component, assigned the coat to it, and set the parent socket to my character's torso. Also, I've set the SetLeaderPoseComponent.
but, when attached to the character, the coat is completely deformed. any ideas why this happens?

2024.05.22 01:53 FrenchStephy Kamen Rider 555 20th: Paradise Regained interviews part 1: Kento Handa (Takumi Inui) and Yuria Haga (Mari Sonoda)

Kamen Rider 555 20th: Paradise Regained interviews part 1: Kento Handa (Takumi Inui) and Yuria Haga (Mari Sonoda)
From Uchuusen Vol. 183. Also I don't know what the consensus is but I use 555 to refer to the show and Faiz to refer to the Kamen Rider.
Part 2: Shinichiro Shirakura (Producer) and Ryuuta Tasaki (Director)
https://preview.redd.it/cf17s2fr7v1d1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=38973491b8e7cc12aed2b2972655da56a35e7961
It's been 20 years since the show ended, but have your impressions of the show changed?
Handa: My impression of the work known as Kamen Rider 555 changed after filming this movie. Previously, I had a rather dry impression of the show, calling it "my debut work" or "my first job after moving to Tokyo", but with the developments of recent years and the fact we were able to make this 20th anniversary movie, I realized that it was a necessary part of my life. It was one of the most special jobs I've ever had the pleasure of working on.
Haga: I think of 555 as my youth and starting point, and that hasn't changed even after 20 years. But once I go to the Kamen Rider filming set, I feel like a child. When I meet the director and staff, I am instantly transported back to those days. And it feels good.
Handa: I get it. I'm almost 40 years old, and as I get older, the sensibilities I had in my teens and 20s tend to fade. I wonder what I was thinking and how I was living back then. But when I'm with Haga-san or when I go to the Kamen Rider set, it instantly comes back to me. That feels strangely comfortable (laughs).
Haga: That's right (laughs).
Handa: It's not good for this to continue forever, but I think it's good to have moments like this every now and then in life.
You two have both appeared in the Kamen Rider series since 555**, but surprisingly this is the first time you have worked together since then.**
Haga: Yes. It's been 20 years since then.
Handa: We've been together at events and such, so you might get the impression that we've often worked together, but this is the first time we've appeared in the same work since 555.
Haga: But it doesn't feel like it's been a while. If anything, I'm more like "What?! It's already been 20 years?"
Handa: It feels like it happened just yesterday or the day before yesterday, when we were testing cameras, deciding on settings, and talking about silly things in our free time.
Haga: It's a feeling you won't find in any other work.
When did the two of you learn about the project for this Paradise Regained movie?
Handa: For me, it was when I appeared in Good Morning, Sleeping Lion 2 starring (Seiji) Takaiwa-san, which was released in April 2023. At the filming set, someone from Toei told me "We'll be doing it next year, so thank you for your cooperation". I was focused on that filming when he suddenly told me, so I was a bit shaken (laughs). However, I was happy that what we had hoped for came true.
What do you mean by "what we had hoped for"?
Handa: When the 555 cast members got together some time ago, we talked about how it would be great to do something for the 20th anniversary. However, it is impossible for us to make a movie on our own, so all we could do is show our determination. I only told Toei of my determination: "if you ever want to do it, I am ready".
Haga-san has appeared in Kamen Rider Genms -Smart Brain and the 1000% Crisis- and Kamen Rider Outsiders as Mari and Smart Queen, but were you aware of this at the time of filming?
Haga: At that time, there was no such talk, so I'm glad we had the opportunity to convey our intentions.
Handa: That's right. If we hadn't said that, the work wouldn't have come this far. I think we would have gotten an commemorative event at most.
Haga: When I learned that May 5, 2020 would coincide with the 20th anniversary of 555, I felt that it was fate that the number "5" would be lined up so miraculously. But to be honest, even if a new work was made, I thought it was going to be at most a collaboration with the latest Kamen Rider, so I never thought that we would be able to make a standalone 555 work.
Handa: I was certainly surprised that they would make such a large-scale work that would be released in theaters.
Takumi's death was confirmed in Kamen Rider 4**, but what were Handa-san's thoughts on playing the role of Takumi this time?**
Handa: I think of Takumi from the TV series and Takumi who guest starred in subsequent works as separate entities. If you don't interpret it that way, you'll end up worrying about parts that don't make sense. That's why I don't think of No. 4 and this movie as being connected. In the first place, after No. 4, I also appeared in Kamen Rider Zi-O. Even at that time, I didn't let No. 4 weigh me down, and instead only played my role of Takumi of the world of Zi-O.
Haga-san also played the dual roles of Mari and the Smart Queen in works such as Outsiders**, but what were your thoughts on playing the role of Mari this time?**
Haga: Even before that, I had appeared in Kamen Rider Kiva and Decade, but it was the first time in 18 years that I played Mari. I was surprised and thought "I haven't played Mari in that long?" But that's because for the past 20 years, I have been called "Mari-chan" here and there.
Handa: That's right (laughs).
Haga: Outsiders was not written by Toshiki Inoue, and to begin with, I played the Smart Queen role more often than Mari there, so in that regard this was the first time in 20 years that I played the post-555 Mari.
What did keep in mind when playing Takumi and Mari of 20 years later?
Handa: This is similar to what I mentioned earlier, but 20 years is just the passage of time in the real world. Although this movie takes place a long time after the TV series, there is no clear setting for how many years later. Takumi no longer have the body to continue working at the dry cleaners, and due to various reasons, has given himself to Smart Brain. I acted with that in mind.
Haga: That's right. We were both teenagers at the time of 555, so we have both changed as people.
Handa: We've both gone through a lot of things in the real world. But I felt like we didn't have to think about those changes in our state of mind in the 555 world.
The director of this movie is Ryuuta Tasaki, who was also the main director of 555**. What was your impression of filming with the Tasaki crew after a long time?**
Handa: For me, the only word I can say is "easy to act". However, since there were many young actors on set this time, the director was also strict. At the time of 555, we didn't really get yelled at.
Haga: Yes. I don't remember being scolded by Director Tasaki. I've worked with him on many other works (besides 555) such as Sh15uya and Kiva, so of course I know of his tough side.
Handa: For me, he is like a teacher or a club advisor. When I was a teenager, the 555 set was like school or a club activity. Even when things were tough, we overcame them and made it through as a group of members that wouldn't be complete with a single person missing.
Haga: He is like a guardian to me. Also, Director Tasaki's acting instructions are very easy to understand.
Handa: He's good at explaining things, without using emotional arguments.
Haga: He is watching the set carefully.
Handa: He's very considerate. If it's cold at the filming site, he'll say things like "put a blanket over him".
Haga: The very first scene we filmed this time was on the roof of a building, and he remembered that I was afraid of heights. He was really considerate and told me "you'll be fine at this height" and "there's a fence, so it's okay".
Handa: I think the director was impressed by Haga-san's talent even back then. That's why you're still treated with courtesy even today.
Haga: No, no, no! I was 15 at the time.
Handa: Now that I think about it, there are no 15-year-olds like Haga-san. She was much more level-headed than (Mitsuru) Karahashi-san (laughs).
Haga: Well, I'm confident in that (laughs). I still remember the conversation we had when I first met Karahashi-san. "So you are the rumoured Mari?" "Yes." "I heard you don't do any retakes." I thought "what's wrong with this adult?" with the way he talked to the 15-year-old me (laughs).
Handa: Karahashi-san brought home many leftover lunch boxes from the filming set, and used the baths at the filming studio to save up money for bathing. His way of life was very much like Naoya Kaido. He is a lovable man (laughs).
Please give us your impressions on co-starring with Kouhei Murakami-san (Masato Kusaka), Mitsuru Karahashi-san (Naoya Kaido), and Ray Fujita-san (Kitazaki/Dragon Orphnoch) in this 555 20th anniversary movie.
Handa: Though I worked with Murakami-san in Heisei Rider vs. Showa Rider: Kamen Rider Taisen and Zi-O, I thought it was really nice to see Takumi and Kusaka together. Karahashi-san was a key person in No. 4, so it was really only Fujita-kun who I met for the first time in 20 years. (After seeing him) I thought he too had become an adult.
Haga: Fujita-kun was a child even to me at the time (laughs). Also, Murakami-san loves Kaixa so much that he hosts a fan event called 913 (Kaixa) Festival. He also invited me there, so I regularly watch him play Masato Kusaka (laughs).
Handa: No, no, 913 Festival's Masato Kusaka is way too exaggerated (laughs). But it's amazing that he took Kusaka, a role that would normally be disliked by viewers, and turned it into a character that is loved so much. I think this is the result of Murakami-san's personality and hard work.
Haga: It seems that there are many people have come to like him after all was said and done. That Masato Kusaka (laughs).
How was your reunion with Karahashi-san, who was mentioned earlier?
Haga: I was surprised at the fact that he hadn't changed at all (laughs).
Handa: He really hasn't changed (laughs). I guess his hair is shorter now?
Haga: He always tries to sneak ad-libs during the actual takes. And everytime, the director would stop him and say "(you) don't (have to) do that!". Exactly the same scenery as back then (laughs).
Handa: It's fine to stay together with him for a day or so. He's pretty interesting after all. But every day is tough (laughs).
Haga: It would stop the filming from progressing (laughs).
Handa: It must be difficult for his wife (laughs).
In this work, Next Faiz, a new form of Faiz, appears. Please tell us your impressions after watching it.
Handa: When I first saw the design drawings, I thought it was an excellent design. While making the gimmick modern, it remains Faiz-like. I was impressed that they were able to create such a difficult design. I liked it at first sight. Also, while matching the old Faiz, the colors have been slightly changed. The red that used to be deep red has turned vermilion, and the silver has also become darker.
Between the TV series, movies, and this work, multiple Kamen Riders have appeared in the 555 series, but which Rider left the most impression on you?
Haga: Aside from Faiz, of course, I really like Psyga, who appeared in the movie Paradise Lost. I thought he was really cool, including the provocation pose he did when fighting Kaixa.
Handa: Back then, white riders were rare. And he could fly too.
Haga: When he fought Faiz, he was defeated right away, right? I seriously thought "what a waste!" (laughs).
Handa: Nevertheless, this is the first time I've heard that you like Psyga (laughs).
Haga: Just like Faiz, it has a really nice design that screams "Made by Smart Brain".
Handa: I was impressed by that too. Smart Brain's front face is a company, so they must be making products other than Riders. It's amazing that they are conscious of the commonalities that are unique to that company when designing their products. Even though it's a non-existent company. As a railway fan, I would like to see trains made by Smart Brain. Something like a Maglev (laughs).
Handa-san, how did you feel about using the Faiz Driver, which has evolved into needing a smartphone?
Handa: The conventional model has its advantages because I'm familiar with it. I think I would have gotten used to the new model if I had used it more often, but just from this experience I wasn't able to make it "my own". And it's not just me, but Takumi himself should be the same, so I thought it wouldn't be a problem even if I wasn't used to it. I think it's more realistic that way.
Since it's a smartphone, you had to use both hands to press "5.5.5. ENTER."
Handa: That was just for the sake of the filming, but if I really want to, I can do it with one hand. But as expected, it's still difficult to press (the touches) with one hand (laughs).
Please tell us the highlights of this work.
Haga: Please pay attention to the last scene.
Handa: It's the "true last scene", right? The scene that plays with the end credits.
Haga: Yes. I really love the Takumi and Mari of that scene.
Handa: Even though it was an ordinary scene, it was difficult to play, so in the end I came to the conclusion that I would "not act". Without thinking about how to make facial expressions, what kind of movements to make, or what tone to use in one's voice. I was wondering if that's what it means to truly "act". Haga-san acted the same way.
Haga: It was a scene that wasn't in the script in the first place. The story was that I could do whatever I wanted while the cameras were rolling.
Handa: The reason it was used properly is because the director could sense that Takumi and Mari were possessing us.
Haga: I haven't heard anything about it, but you're probably right.
Lastly, please give a message to the fans who are looking forward to the screening.
Handa: This is a work for 555 fans. It is a work that we can confidently deliver to the core 555 fans who say I like this" or "that" about 555". It's not just that "we made this movie just to celebrate the 20th anniversary". Rather, it's more like "20 years have passed by coincidence". At least if you ask us (laughs).
Haga: I think the fact that the Faiz Driver, which used to need a flip phone, was upgraded into needing a smartphone, was only possible because 20 years have passed. However, it is a work that does not make you feel the passage of time. There are well-balanced scenes that make you think "this is what 555 is like". And this too "gets you fired up" (laughs).
Handa: Another big factor was that the filming took place at a time when we, the actors, were in good mental condition. The mental state of an actor will appear on the screen.
Haga: Please check out what Takumi and Mari are thinking and how they are living as adults.
Handa: But as I said at the beginning, I was a child again on set (laughs). That's why I would like (Toei) to create new 555 stories on a regular basis. So that we can also become younger (laughs).

2024.05.22 01:51 nico_p Jace Stardiamond’s teaching or lack there of

Jace’s teaching style hasn’t gotten attention in the same way that Porter’s has, but I think they parallel each other’s ineffective styles.
To preface, I am an introductory writing professor so I’m gonna reference some learning pedagogy here, mainly goals and guardrails. Goals describe what a teacher and overall school system want students to achieve. Guardrails describe what teachers and school systems will do to have students achieve those goals. For this series, the goal of Aguefort adventuring academy is to create successful adventures, and the goal of each teacher is to create successful members of each adventuring class.
Porter’s teaching style represents strict guardrails that actually prevent student success because they are hard for students to fit between. He has a narrow view of what defines barbarians and rage. Because of this, he views Gorgug largely as failure despite Gorgug(and the Bad Kids as a whole) being far ahead of most students. His style only works for the students who can fit into his view but not others. Students who can’t meet his narrow expectations fail, or in rare cases, succeed in spite of him.
On the other hand, Jace represents a lack of guard rails at all. Because Sorcery powers are innate in Fantasy High, Brennan describes him as just being an older adult friend that hangs out. However, this explanation doesn’t hold under further scrutiny. We don’t have a lot to go off of in Fantasy High because there’s not many sorcerer characters, but there are are other examples of training characters with innate powers: xmen, my hero academia, etc. Even if we keep things purely to DnD, sorcerers still level up and unlock class features as they get stronger. Therefore, Jace should be teaching them but chooses not to. Basically, he passes students along to the next grade level each year without ever teaching them in a meaningful way.
TLDR, Jace’s lack of teaching is just as bad as Porter’s overly strict style of teaching.

2024.05.22 01:49 _Take-A-Bite_ Unpacking DYWTYLM

This song has become a well loved track for me. DYWTYLM is a track that sounds the most poppie compared to the rest of their catalog. One of the reasons that I love this song is because it really gives that main character euphoria. I live in a major US City and rely on public transit. That means I walk A LOT. The walk-ability of this song is top tier. The way the beat goes is always right in time with my foot meeting the pavement as I walk through the big city. Aside from the feel of the song the lyrics, as per usual, are a treat to dissect.
Within the Lore of Sleep Token I choose rest my head on an acquired understanding that Sleep is just a personification of Mental/Emotional states of being/the Self and Death. Thus is the framework of which I consume this musical offerings. The songs structure (from out understanding) as encounters with Vessel and Sleep, making the lyrics very conversational even if only one sided at times. In this song ,however, it seems almost more to be breaking that third wall in addition to its tie to the sleep lore. The more I listen to this track the more I feel like I am getting a little peak into a more pointed aspect of the mental continuum of the man behind the mask; a insecurity perhaps? Behold my theory fellow worshipers...
  1. Energy is shared and never ending. Everything that makes up the stars in the sky also makes up us. Many spiritualists adopt the understanding that we are simply the universe experiencing itself over and over in different incarnations. We are each other. I am it and it is me, a philosophy I think it is safe to say that Sleep Token shares. In 2017 the band even released a single line response on social media in res posting to an article that within its headline asked (possibly paraphrasing) "What and Who the Hell are Sleep Token?" To which the band responded "We are YOU" All this to say that any relationship or battle or communication with sleep is, to me, often just directed towards the darker facets of the artist himself. Additionally it is about creating a community that can dine in darkness together.
  2. So why would I suspect that a fourth wall is broken? The perspective that I am viewing this song in lends itself to that suspension though the song still works regardless of POV. Either this song is reference towards a specific person or conversation or its directed at fans or both. DYWTYLM has come off of the most recent album Take Me Back To Eden. At this point the band has gained some following though it seems it didn't really explode until around the time of the albums release when the summoning blew up on social media. Regardless, when you have the talent that Sleep Token has, a large fan base is inevitable. I can imagine going from being relatively unknown to having strangers shout that they love you can be a heavy experience especially if one already struggles with self Image. To me, this song comes from the headspace of someone being interested in you in some way and wanting to build some sort of relationship with you, wanting to invest themselves in you. Despite this person saying how much they want you in their life, you feel like you should come with a warning label. I feel that's whats happening here. the question DYWTYLM is a interesting one because the inflection of that question is what can easily change the perspective. I view that question with a tone of disbelief and sense of "..but why?"
"Do you roll with the waves? or do you duck into deep blue safety? Is is always the same? DYWTYLM? Do you pull out the chains? or Do you push into constant aching each and every day? DYWTYLM?"
To me its as if someone has told him that they love him and that they want him to have a bigger role in their life in whatever regards the relationship is to. Friend, Lover whomever. He is trying to deter this person from getting to close. essentially it is say "My responses to negative stimulus is either on one side of the spectrum or the complete other side of the spectrum." Perhaps he is saying "I may be a bueden to you." As if to warn "I am too broken for you." If you look at the entirety of this song like this, you can see it easily. All of the questions seem posed as if/then, this or that. When he says DYWTYLM, is he really saying"You may wish that you loved me but behold, here is all the lists of the reasons we wont work out cause I am too complicated and mentaly ill. So, after all that, do you still want me? Do You Wish That You Loved me?"
Another reason I suspect that this song could be directed at fans is because of the in between parts toward the end of the song. During a interview style version of one of vessels messages he had said (again, paraphrasing)"I only see them smiling...I want them to smile" and during the end of the song you hear him sing "smile back.....at me..."
The band has always wanted it to be about the music. These are smart lads though, I am sure they expected and bit of a following from ....Hungry Eyes...if you will.... Perhaps this song gently address "hey, you think im desirable? If you really knew me..if you knew the man behind the mask..,maybe you would change your mind."
During the course of the song he also addresses "my reflecion wont smile back at me like I know it should and I would turn into a stranger in a minute if I could. There is something eating me alive I dont know what it is...."
He doesnt seem to like himself very much in the first place. Introspectively, The artist understands that sometimes there is a blind spot to see greatness within ones self. When he says he wished he could be a stranger it could be that he wishes he were able to look at himself more objectivly and not be weighed down by any preconceived notions or lies he has told himself. To say he doesn't know what is eating him alive it sounds like he is struggling with depression or some other mental/emotional health concern.
He goes on to say "I cannot hope to give you what I cannot give myself" This is powerful because its like he has been offered a way out of his lonleyness, out of some of the darkness but has refused it because he wont do it at the expense of anyone else. He is compassionate.
In summary I feel that the track DYWTYLM is about questioning what someone sees in you, and/or wanting to protect somone from yourself. I get a sense that this narrative is something that is perhaps a less metaphorical aspect and more a confession of something real that the lead singer has dealth with before.
So what do you think? Have you had similar thoughts? How do you feel it relates to the Sleep lore? There are probably as many variations of interpretation as there are Sleep Token Worshipers. Aside from whatever is truley cannon in Vessles mind, there is no right or wrong answers or interpretations. If something resonated with you then you explore that path and if it didnt thats okay too.
