[IWantOut] 29M Singapore -> Germany

2024.05.29 11:40 craptalker7 [IWantOut] 29M Singapore -> Germany

Guten Tag!
I’m currently deep in the hiring process for a JP-ENG translator position that’s based in Frankfurt, Germany, meaning I’d have to relocate there when I get the job. However, I admit that I’m really clueless as to what my chances are of getting a work visa because I’ve read that work visas are only granted if the job can’t be filled by eu citizens.
For context, I have a BFA (bachelor of fine arts) in writing from a university in USA. I’m a Singaporean citizen, don’t have a masters yet, and I don’t know any German. I love languages tho, and would definitely want to pick up German soon, especially when I get this job.
But anyway, i have quite a few questions:
Thank you in advance for all the answers and advice!

2024.05.29 11:36 spondgebob1a Photo editing laptop.

Hi, I'm looking for new laptop, mainly for video and photo editing (i have external screen, so screen in not the deciding factor). I will play some games on it too, but main job is photo/video editing. I was looking for i7 (13/14 gen) + rtx 4070 first...
So i can get HP Victus (i read that this is entry level laptop with quite few downsides), with:
Then i saw huge discount on ASUS ROG Strix G15 (i get it for lower price as HP Victus):
So which one would you suggest me? Is Ryzen™ 9 6900HX and RTX 3070 Ti outdated yet? Is this combo much slower than i7-13700H/4070?
Laptop build quality is important factor for me too.
Any other recommendation would be great to. Thank you for help!

2024.05.29 11:21 RatedXBlitzPapaGamer How should I complete this task?

I'm in the process of completing a job application with the following task . . .
"Please provide us with an example of when you have demonstrated excellence in something, if not already provided on your CV (N.B this doesn’t have to be from a professional environment). As an example, this could be being promoted, exceeding targets by x%, or something outside of work like being an Olympic athlete, or performing professionally."
I can answer it with a traditional achievement. However, my idea is to write about leaving my parent's home, moving to London, reaching out to old friends, ending a long period of unemployment and personal crisis, all in the same year? Do you think this would be inappropriate and therefore a risk? What's getemplyed's advice?

2024.05.29 11:06 forex4all Picoworkers.net Reviews: Is this site a scam or legit?

Picoworkers.net has emerged as a standout participant in the ever-changing realm of online work platforms, giving a novel take on microtasking and crowdsourcing. Picoworkers has carved out a niche in the gig economy by focusing on small, bite-sized tasks and fostering a global community of workers. In this detailed post, we will look at Picoworkers's operations, including its core features, the user experience it offers, and the potential ramifications for both workers and task requesters.

The concept of microtasking

Picoworkers's operations are based on the concept of microtasking. Unlike traditional freelancing platforms, which prioritize larger projects and specialized expertise, Picoworkers divides labor into small, digestible jobs that can be completed rapidly by a vast pool of workers. These tasks, sometimes known as "picojobs," range from basic data entry and image tagging to surveys and social media engagements.
Microtasking is appealing because of its ease of use and flexibility. Workers can select tasks that match their talents and interests and complete them at their own leisure. This low-barrier entrance allows people from all walks of life and regions to participate in the platform, regardless of their educational background or professional experience.

User Experience: Simplicity and Efficiency

One of Picoworkers's main advantages is its user-friendly interface and streamlined workflow. Both job requesters and workers benefit from a simple and user-friendly platform that stresses efficiency and convenience.
For task requesters, creating a new picojob is a simple process. They can specify the task requirements, incentive amount, and desired number of workers. The platform's built-in templates and customization tools enable requesters to personalize their jobs to individual requirements.
Workers, on the other hand, can quickly browse and filter potential tasks depending on their interests and abilities. The platform gives clear instructions and guidelines for each task, ensuring that employees know what is expected of them. Workers submit their work for evaluation and, once authorized, receive their wages through the platform's payment mechanism.

Quality Assurance and Reputation Systems

To assure the quality of work delivered through Picoworkers, the platform has established a strong quality assurance and reputation system. Task requesters can examine and grade the work submitted by employees, providing feedback on their performance. This input helps to build a worker's total reputation score, which measures their dependability and job quality.
The reputation system incentivizes employees to continuously deliver high-quality results. Workers with higher reputation scores are more likely to be chosen for jobs and may even receive higher compensation. This meritocratic approach promotes a competitive but fair atmosphere in which quality and dependability are valued.

Diverse Task Categories and Applications

Picoworkers provides a diverse range of task categories to meet the needs of different industries and businesses. From data entry and categorization to content moderation and internet research, the platform offers a wide range of microtasks that can be used by enterprises of all kinds.
Picoworkers has a major application in data annotation and labeling for machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). Companies can use the platform to outsource labor-intensive tasks like picture and video tagging, text categorization, and sentiment analysis. The distributed workforce on Picoworkers enables the speedy fulfillment of various activities at scale.
If you’ve experienced financial losses with companies like Elncoin, RiveGarde, or Cylwex, please report to us on our website.

Implications for the gig economy.

The advent of platforms such as Picoworkers has important ramifications for the gig economy. On the one hand, these platforms allow people to earn money in a variety of ways, regardless of where they live or their background. They provide a low-barrier entry point into the digital workforce, allowing individuals to supplement their income or even work full-time from the comfort of their own homes.
However, the nature of microtasking raises questions regarding fair compensation and worker safety. Individual task sizes are small, and workers compete globally, which can lead to poor compensation and a lack of job security. Platforms like Picoworkers face continual issues such as ensuring fair remuneration, setting clear criteria for job requesters, and providing workers with support and resources.

The Future Of Microtasking

As technology advances and businesses seek more effective ways to outsource tiny jobs, the need for microtasking platforms such as Picoworkers is expected to increase. The scalability and versatility of these platforms make them appealing solutions for businesses wishing to simplify operations and access into a global talent pool.
However, the future of microtasking is also dependent on platforms' capacity to adapt to shifting market demands, technical breakthroughs, and regulatory settings. Ensuring workers' well-being and fair treatment, while preserving task efficiency and quality, will be critical to the long-term viability and expansion of platforms like Picoworkers.
Picoworkers takes a unique and original approach to microtasking and crowdsourcing, providing a platform that connects task requesters with a global workforce. Its emphasis on tiny, bite-sized activities and user-friendly design have made it a popular choice for both enterprises and individuals.
While the platform allows for flexible work and low-barrier entrance into the gig economy, it also raises critical considerations about fair compensation, worker protection, and the long-term viability of microtasking. As the landscape of online work evolves, platforms such as Picoworkers must adapt and handle these difficulties to remain relevant and helpful to all stakeholders.
Nonetheless, the principle of microtasking and the efficiency it provides for task completion cannot be overlooked. As businesses seek more agile and cost-effective solutions, platforms like Picoworkers will play an important part in determining the future of work. These platforms can reinvent how we approach work in the digital age by harnessing technology, cultivating a global workforce, and constantly improving their operations.
It is critical to act quickly to safeguard oneself and avert additional harm after becoming aware of fraudulent activity, which can be a discouraging realization. Obtaining restitution and restoring one's financial security begins with filing a report of fraudulent activity or falling victim to a scheme with BrokerComplaintAlert.com.
You are not only proactively pursuing justice for yourself by reporting fraud to BrokerComplaintAlert.com; you are also aiding in the prevention of others from becoming victims of similar schemes in the future. If you believe you have fallen victim to Picoworkers questionable practices, there are steps you can take to seek recourse. Fill in your details and one of our representatives will contact you within 1-2 business days.
In conclusion, the numerous red flags, customer complaints, and negative reviews surrounding Picoworkers raise serious concerns about the platform’s legitimacy. Remember, diligence is key when navigating the complex landscape of online trading, and being informed can protect you from potential scams.

2024.05.29 11:06 sophiaelena Skilled worker Dependant visa mistake & no evidence asked

Hi everyone,
I'm feeling quite anxious about a mistake I made in my UK Skilled Worker Dependant visa application on YES/NO questions and could really use some advice from those who have been through the process or have relevant experience.
Background:
The Mistakes:
  1. Immigration Salary List: In the application, there was a question about whether my partner’s job is on the immigration salary list. I mistakenly answered "Yes." My confusion arose because his occupation is listed with a corresponding SOC code, but I now understand that his job is not actually on the immigration salary list.
  2. Living Together Question: There was a question asking, "Have you and your partner lived together in the UK continuously since you were last given permission to stay as a partner?" This was an honest misunderstanding on my part, as it mentioned in brackets not to include any stays shorter than three weeks. Therefore, I mistakenly selected the YES as an answer. To clarify, this is my first time applying for a UK visa, and although I have visited and stayed with my partner in the UK for multiple weeks, sometimes for months, on a standard visitor permission as an EU citizen, we have not lived together continuously in the UK under any previous visa permissions.
Current Status:
Steps I’ve Taken:
Questions:
  1. Should I go ahead and upload the correction letter and any supporting documentation even though they haven't asked for it?
  2. Has anyone been in a similar situation, and if so, how did you handle it?
  3. What are the chances that this mistake could lead to a refusal of my visa application? Would it be wiser to withdraw the application?
I appreciate any advice or insights you can offer. Thank you in advance for your help!

2024.05.29 10:53 tofumisoboggo Advice on tech career/internship

I know this is not a job site or anything, but I couldn't really find any tech subreddits specifically for sg, so here I am. I'm looking for tech internships in MNCs that will hopefully hire part time for Aug-Dec period, but I feel like I am just spamming applications that usually don't get back to me, and I don't want to end up in a place with toxic work culture either. I would be extremely grateful to anyone with any advice or companies that they've heard/experienced a nice work culture with. I guess the path I'm trying to head towards would be those in data and AI, but if not SWE is fine as well. Thanks everyone if you've managed to read this far,, please have a good day :) and jys to everyone else job hunting as well!!

2024.05.29 10:36 WinParticular3010 Dominican Republic application to France

Hi,
Does anyone have any experience that can help?
I'm British and also Irish (which means I'm an EU citizen). I'm living in France.
My fiancée is from the Dominican Republic and lives there.
We plan to get married later this year and then she will apply for a Schengen visa, visiting her family member (me). We don't have any travel plans. She will just stay with me.
She's been refused a Schengen visa twice before as a tourist, from the French embassy and from the Italian embassy. Both times she'd been honest about her travel plans but they believed she would overstay. This was not recent, it was around a year ago.
My questions are:
Do you know how she can succeed this time?
Does being married to an EU citizen make it likely that they will say yes this time?
How long should she apply for? We really need 90 days because she will be applying for a cart de séjour (residence permit) as the spouse of an EU citizen when she arrives.
Should she state on her application that she intends to apply for the carte de séjour when she gets here? Her employer is unlikely to grant her 90 days of vacation. How do we deal with that? Won't the authorities be suspicious that she won't return home if she doesn't have a job any more?
Should I transfer money to her bank account? She doesn't have much despite having a job.
We'd be devastated if they refuse her application so if you have any experience of this please let me know. I'm going to see an immigration lawyer but that's very expensive so I won't have multiple sessions.
Thanks.

2024.05.29 10:34 WonderlinkDotCo [CA] An option to request a resume feedback. Your thoughts?

Last time we posted a job, we received a staggering 500+ applications. Despite specifically requesting middle-level software engineers, 80% of the applicants were juniors. Many of the resumes were poorly formatted or incomplete.
I tried to provide feedback on the candidates' resumes, but there were too many, and I had too little time. This led me to think: Would it be useful to have an option where candidates can request resume feedback?

2024.05.29 10:33 RevolutionaryFace589 What are the best EU countries to do an MBA in as a Filipino citizen?

I graduated last year and am currently working in a Big 4 firm as an auditor right after passing the PH CPA exam. I also recently just passed my U.S. CMA exam on track to getting a certification. I want to do an MBA abroad which will hopefully help me get a job abroad but I’m not quite sure which country presents the best option. The factors I’m considering are visa application process, cost of living and the job market.

2024.05.29 10:30 ha1lyeah Using PC with High End Graphics Card for both Gaming and AI development

Hi, I built a new PC with 4090 graphics card with the aim to be used for both Gaming and AI development/applications. I would like to utilize the machine without the two scopes interfering with each other. Meaning I don't want on the same windows to install all my games, launchers, IDEs, LLMs, services.... I would if I would like to play, the only background jobs/services running are related to gaming and when I want to work on AI applications, the only jobs running are related to this purpose. I was thinking of virtualization but I am not sure if I can use the full power of the graphics card in VMs. Will creating dual boot is the best way? Any suggestions would be much appreciated

2024.05.29 10:29 yonBonbonbon Why does it seem like people can’t get jobs as easily as they could just a few years ago?

Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot of people say that it’s been taking forever for them to find a job now and how it’s hard to even get an interview, after submitting over like 10 or more applications. Been hearing this for a bout a year or 2 now. I do see tons of job postings that says “now hiring” on all the popular jobs sites, Indeed, Monster, etc. or on a company’s actual site, but it seems like they’re not actually hiring anyone and it’s really sad to hear. Anybody else hearing/ experiencing this?

2024.05.29 10:13 KookyKidKarma Resign or not to resign.

I’ve finally made it through the first year of my first job. I should be happy and proud of myself but I’m simply exhausted and frustrated. I don’t really want to resign for the sake of my career, it’s my first job, I know na sayang kung Di manlang ako maka-two years, as I’ve been often told na important yun sa application sa iba, lalo na sa pag-abroad which I fully intend to do.
Kaso
My coworkers are all cnts. YES, literal cnts. Specifically -unethical- c*nts. In my one year working with them, on a DAILY basis, they have poked fun of my:
• Weight. I have been anorexic for a greater part of my life (they are aware of this) and am currently on birth control pills because my fiancé and I are simply not ready for kids yet. Almost on an hourly schedule I am the center of attention for being made fun of for being on the heavy side. This is the heaviest I’ve ever been but I never really even noticed because I’m relatively still healthy, I eat clean, and I’m still active. But being called and sometimes referred/yelled to as “taba or baboy” hurts t*ngina araw araw ba naman.
•Mental state. They know (because I had to tell my superior) about my clinically diagnosed depression and that I am on medication. So kung Hindi ako si taba or baboy ako si baliw. Who’s always blamed for literally anything and everything because “Baka Di nanaman uminom ng gamot” even though usually if not always things they pin on me aren’t even my fault/doing. I wouldn’t be surprised if one day ma-PDEA ako because they always call me an addict at kung Ano Ano tinitira na droga dahil lang sa anti depressive meds ko na they keep calling “anti psychotic”
•Skills. They know when they hired me that I am relatively new and still have a lot to learn but they frequently shame me even in front of or directly to customers at Kahit sa mga janitor na parang ang tanga tanga ko. Kaya Kahit Wala naman Alam sa trabaho namin minamaliit ako. Tapos magtataka sila kung Bakit Hindi ako confident or Bakit Walang May gusto sakin na customer.
•Past. Nung bago pa ko sakanila syempre dumating yung point na nag-open up ako sa mga tanong nila about sa life ko. So nalaman nila na galing ako sa abusive at traumatic na relationship to the very last detail, which is apparently so hilarious to them. They often take jabs at me regarding what happened to me.
•Present. My fiancé is considerably handsome and doesn’t look his age at all in part with his addiction to the gym he keeps a very fit body and has no vices. My future in-laws are just the best and most loving angels I could’ve prayed for. Both our families are on the good side financially. So coworkers always try to mess with my head that presumably because I look the way I do or because my head is not perfectly “stable” that my fiancé will eventually cheat on me or leave for someone better, and that my in laws are fakes who will show their true sides one day. Implying that I shouldn’t go through with my wedding.
I have never made fun of anything about them, never started nothing with nobody.
But at what point are jokes still jokes. I can’t recall a time I asked for their opinions or observations.
My superior told me kung maasar or mapikon ako problema ko na yun talo daw ako. I can’t address this with the boss kase mag best friends sila. Wala kaming HR.
It’s to the point where I cry everytime I wake up, in the shower, before getting out the car, and as soon as I get home.
I’m scared na masayang lahat ng pagtitiis ko kung Hindi maging enough ang 1 year experience sa resume ko. I’m scared na mahirapan ako makahanap ng bagong trabaho. I’m scared to pick the wrong decision.

How to Choose the Right Hosting Plan for Your Website
In the digital era, a company’s website serves as its online identity and a crucial touchpoint for potential customers. It's vital for marketing products and services, establishing a brand presence, and engaging with a global audience. The foundation of a successful website is its hosting, which ensures the site is accessible, fast, and secure. With numerous hosting providers and plans available, choosing the right one can be overwhelming. This comprehensive blog explores the challenges of selecting the best hosting solution for a company’s website, providing an in-depth analysis of the problem, a generalized model for decision-making, a specific model for Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) selection, and a case study on Future18 Digital's best-selling plan.
  1. Problem Statement
Creating and maintaining a company website involves significant investment in time, money, and effort. The choice of hosting can profoundly impact the website's performance, security, and user experience. Poor hosting decisions can lead to slow loading times, frequent downtimes, security breaches, and ultimately, a loss of customers and revenue. Hence, choosing high-quality hosting is both urgent and complex.
Key Issues in Hosting Selection
  1. Performance: Speed and reliability are critical for user satisfaction and search engine ranking.
  2. Security: With increasing cyber threats, robust security measures are essential to protect sensitive data and maintain trust.
  3. Scalability: As a business grows, its hosting needs may change. The hosting solution should be able to scale accordingly.
  4. Cost: High-quality hosting often comes at a higher price, so finding a balance between cost and features is important.
  5. Support: Reliable customer and technical support can help resolve issues quickly, minimizing downtime and disruption.
Choosing the right hosting provider and plan involves evaluating these and other factors, making it a multi-criteria decision problem that requires careful analysis and strategic planning.
  1. Generalized Model for Choosing Hosting for a Company’s Website
To systematically approach the problem of choosing the best hosting, we can develop a generalized model that evaluates different hosting types, providers, and tariff plans based on multiple functional and economic criteria. Each hosting type is offered by multiple providers, each with various tariff plans tailored to different needs and budgets.
Evaluation Criteria: To choose the best hosting solution, each hosting plan should be evaluated based on several functional and economic criteria. Here are some key criteria to consider:
Functional Criteria:
  1. Disk Space: The amount of storage space provided for website files, databases, and emails.
  2. Bandwidth: The data transfer capacity, which affects how much traffic the website can handle.
  3. Backup Services: Availability and frequency of backups to prevent data loss.
  4. Reliability and Uptime: The percentage of time the hosting service guarantees the website will be operational.
  5. Scalability: The ability to upgrade resources (CPU, RAM, storage) as the website grows.
  6. Security Features: Measures such as SSL certificates, firewalls, DDoS protection, and malware scanning.
  7. Speed and Performance: Server response time and overall performance, including CDN integration and caching options.
Economic Criteria:
  1. Monthly Cost: The price paid per month for the hosting service.
  2. Annual Cost: The price paid per year, often with discounts for long-term commitments.
  3. Value for Money: The features and services offered relative to the cost.
  4. Bonus Systems: Additional benefits or discounts offered, such as free domain registration, advertising credits, or premium support.
Decision-Making Process:
Given the complexity of the decision, a structured approach is necessary. The decision-making process can be broken down into the following steps:
  1. Determine Requirements: Identify the specific needs of the company’s website in terms of traffic, storage, security, and performance.
  2. Evaluate Hosting Types: Assess the suitability of different hosting types (shared, VPS, dedicated, cloud, managed) based on the identified requirements.
  3. Select Providers: Compare hosting providers based on their reputation, customer reviews, and the range of services they offer.
  4. Choose Tariff Plans: Optimize the choice of tariff plans according to functional and economic criteria, ensuring they meet the company's needs and budget constraints.
Model for Choosing a Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS)
Virtual Dedicated Servers (VDS) offer a balance between shared hosting and dedicated hosting, providing more control and resources without the high cost of a dedicated server. VDS is an excellent choice for businesses that need robust performance and flexibility.
Criteria for VDS Selection:
When choosing a VDS, consider the following criteria:
  1. CPU Cores: The number of virtual CPU cores, which affects the server's processing power.
  2. Memory: The amount of RAM, which influences the server's ability to handle concurrent processes.
  3. Storage: The type (HDD or SSD) and size of storage, affecting data access speed and capacity.
  4. Bandwidth: The data transfer limits, crucial for handling website traffic.
  5. Control Panel: The ease of managing the server, often facilitated by control panels like cPanel or Plesk. In Future18, we have hPanel.
  6. Cost: The monthly and annual pricing, considering any discounts for long-term commitments.
  7. Support: The availability and quality of customer and technical support.
  8. Additional Features: Any extra services or features, such as automatic backups, security enhancements, and scalability options.
Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP):
The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a powerful tool for handling multicriteria decision-making. It allows decision-makers to structure a problem hierarchically, compare elements pairwise, and derive priority scales.
Steps of AHP:
  1. Define the Goal: Choose the best VDS plan for the company’s website.
  2. Identify Criteria: List functional and economic criteria relevant to VDS selection.
  3. Construct Hierarchy: Create a hierarchical model with the goal at the top, criteria in the middle, and alternatives (VDS plans) at the bottom.
  4. Pairwise Comparisons: Compare criteria and alternatives in pairs to establish their relative importance.
  5. Calculate Weights: Determine the weight of each criterion based on comparisons.
  6. Evaluate Alternatives: Rate each VDS plan against each criterion.
  7. Consistency Check: Ensure the consistency of comparisons; adjust if necessary to achieve a consistency ratio (CR) of less than 0.1.
  8. Calculate Global Priorities: Aggregate scores to determine the best VDS plan.
  9. Select the Best Plan: Choose the VDS plan with the highest global priority.
