[Routine help] I need help fixing my f’d up face
Looking for help,
Hi everyone, i’m new to the skincare world. Im looking to see if anyone has any suggestions or ideas. Im desperate to get my skin in order, I know I can only do so much after years of neglecting my face, I just want my skin to be the best it can, I know it’ll never be super smooth and clear but I just want to get as close as I can.
This is the routine I was told to follow but I’m looking to see if there’s anything else I should be doing or adding. Im willing to try anything.
My skin is really acne prone (breaks out in whiteheads)
Morning: Cerave facial cleanser Vitamin D serum Clindamycin Phosphate 1% Azelaic Acid Gel 15% SimplyVital Face Moisturizer Collagen Cream
Night: Cerave facial cleanser Tretinion 0.025% cream Azelaic Acid Gel 15% SimplyVital Face Moisturizer Collagen Cream
I don’t like the way it looks. It’s really dark and oily. I especially hate the dark patches on my face caused by insulin resistance, though they used to be much darker. I’ve lost about 80 pounds since January. so I know I can reverse it, but I just want to see if I can do anything to help.

2024.05.16 15:56 Parking_Shoe_4145 [Routine help] Advices on how to incorporate these new products I just bought

Hi everyone, I (27M) have been dealing with persistent acne on the lower part of my face beginning of September 2023. It's gotten worse over the past months and it's really taken a toll on my confidence. My BF tells me it's not that bad, but it's all I see... Last time I had acne was in HS! As soon as a pimple disappears, a new one appears and I'm now dealing with lots of hyperpigmentation.
With all the hype on TikTok, I tried several K-beauty products and my current routine is:
I wash my face with a cloth in the morning. I follow it with the Numbuzin No.5 Vitamin Concentrated Serum (4% tranexamic acid, 5% niacinamide, 5% Panthenol), layer with the Skinfood Royal Honey Propolis Enrich Essence and the Isntree Aqua Gel Cream. I then use the tinted Laroche Posey Anthelios UVMUNE 400 (spf50).
In the evening, I'm double washing using Soon Jung pH 6.5 Whip Cleanser (used to double cleanse with the Beauty of Joseon cleansing oil, stopped because I felt like it worsened my breakouts). I follow it up with Isntree Aqua Gel Cream. I used to layer lots of products in the evening (Skin1004 Probio Cica Ampoule, Axis Y Dark Spot, Avene Cicalfate...) but decided I needed to simplify it because I'd wake up with new pimples and small whiteheads..
Korean products feel nice and all, but I don't feel like they do much on treating ongoing acne pimple... So I made an order on iHerb: Panoxyl Face Wash (Benzoyl Peroxide 10%), Stridex 1% SA pads, and De La Cruz 10% Sulfur Ointment. Really drying products as I feel it might be the solution to getting rid of my current acne. I know I shouldn't use all of them at once, how should I introduce them in my routine? Like in what order? Or how often? Should I do a "Day 1. Panoxyl face wash, Day 2. Soon Jung face wash, then Stridex, Day 3. Soon Jung face wash, sulfur ointment as spot treatment. Repeat."?
Sorry for the long post, could have shortened it to the last paragraph but I thought a bit more context on my current routine might be useful!

2024.05.15 10:04 No-Height-8584 Zo Skin cured my Acne

I (28f) I’ve been dealing with the worst skin of my life for the past three years. I quit hormonal birth control, which I’ve been on since the age of 16 and all of a sudden was dealing with acne for the first time of my life.
We’re not talking about a little breakout here and there we’re talking full hormonal acne that would get drastically worse every month. My self confidence tanked and there were some days I would refuse to leave the house. I’ve cried a lot over this.
Now I was not kind to my skin in my early 20s either. Tanning booth, drinking, late nights. I was definitely seeing the effects. Before I quit birth control I started using some retinol and Botox trying to get my skin to look young again. Unfortunately the retinal caused me to dry and then when I quit the birth control, the overall inflammation was a disaster.
I was a cystic acne mess with deep wrinkles. Who knew they could co exist…
Fast-forward years later, I’ve tried nearly everything from microdermabrasion, led lights, differin gel, to thousands on skincare, Morpheus8 and everything in between with zero to no luck. The one thing that was working the best was actually doing less. It seemed the more I tried the more irritated things got. But I’m impatient and hate feeling like I’m not doing something about the problem.
I finally started working with a new dermatologist (I’ve been through like four at this point) and this was the first one who uses Zo Skin Health.
She did a peel. it was a bit dry, but overall not bad and then set me up with a skincare routine that includes the exfoliating cleanser twice a day, the oil control pads, the hydrating cream, and a 50+ SPF
Prior to this I would’ve said no that’s too much exfoliation. My skin is red and dry anyways this is gonna be horrible but I trusted her.
My skin is never red or inflamed. The cleaners leaves it soft not tight. I have gotten rid of almost every fine line. oh my God am I glad I trusted her.
Don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t easy. The first month, i had little breakouts every time I would wake up with a couple big cystic ones. But they all came to a head and went away within a day or two. Not like differen which would leave marks. It was a process, everything that was in my skin came out. I could tell it was purging though so I stuck with it.
Now I’m sitting pretty, my skin better than it was in my early 20s. I do not have feel oily mud day, my skin is never red or inflamed. I have gotten rid of almost every fine line, I’m getting sooo many compliments! The marks are fading and I can start treating the scars (they have also raised)
I’m still in disbelief. No it’s not 100% perfect. There’s small whiteheads here and there that pop up in the morning, but they are gone once I wash my face and don’t leave marks.
I think this routine is the one for me for a while. I look forward to adding a vitamin c in the future.

2024.05.15 04:56 jheegs randomly started breaking out from my routine?

I haven’t really done any crazy changes to my skincare routine, and the last product added to my routine was almost a month ago (Anua double cleansing duo). However this week I have been breaking out in the areas I normally get acne but a lot worse. It’s mostly small whiteheads with a couple of deeper pimples. I am unsure if this is purging or if the products I added are breaking me out. To be safe I have stripped my routine down to just water cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen.
Current routine: AM: mediheal madecassoside toner pads mixsoon bean essence cosrx vitamin c BOJ glow serum etude soon jung barrier cream BOJ sunscreen
PM: anua cleansing oil anua cleansing foam etude soon jung cream
I have seen a good amount of posts saying that the anua duo has broken a lot of yall out, so that is what I am suspecting. I guess my main confusion is that I have been using it daily for almost a month, and I didn’t start breaking out until this week. Would love any advice - thank you!

2024.05.14 05:33 knifedude What could cause rapidly worsened atrophic scarring?

I’ve had bad acne for over a decade and would get the occasional atrophic scar from large zits. My acne is much more in control than it ever used to be from improving my skincare and health habits.
But something’s changed within the last 6 months that’s resulted in every acne lesion on my face leaving a dramatic pitted scar. Over this period of time I’ve acquired numerous new scars that have seriously changed the landscape of my face. My acne at this point is so much milder than it used to be but now I can expect even small whiteheads to leave a permanent dent.
I don’t mind the appearance of the scars themselves so much as the alarming nature of how much worse my scarring has become. Is there a particular vitamin deficiency or other health issue that could be causing this? Or is it normal for collagen production to dramatically tank in your late 20s?

2024.05.14 00:22 Own_Instruction_506 Need help understanding what’s wrong ft. Acne Clinic

Some time ago I replaced my previous skincare for a korea skincare routine with a lot of different products which led to me breaking out quite intensely, cystic acne, pustules and whiteheads… to a degree which I had not experienced before :/ rookie’s mistake… now I removed most of the products and have been keeping to the basics:
-toner - Numbuzin no 5. Vitamin-Niacinamide Concentrated Pads
-moisturizer - Dr. G red blemish clear soothing cream
-spf - Numbuzin no.1 clear filter Sun essence
While my acne improved again a lot having had no more cystic acne, I still have some little whiteheads or pustules appearing on my face which wasn’t the case before also… however I am trying to work out from what it might be but these are all very clean products supposedly super soft… I checked nyc acne clinic website and they are all non comedogenic and except for Numbuzin no.1 which has a minor ingredient in the end of the list pointed out but there’s only good reviews from the sunscreen… Do you think it is the sunscreen that is still breaking me out?
Thanks in advance ❤️

2024.05.12 14:04 misanthropic_unicorn YOUR GUIDE TO SKINCARE.

SKIN AND IT'S TYPES:
  1. Dry Skin:
    • Dry skin often feels tight,
    • rough, and may appear flaky or dull. It lacks moisture and may be prone to fine lines and wrinkles.
    • Skincare Needs: Hydration is key for dry skin. Look for moisturizers with hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides.
  2. Normal Skin:
    • Normal skin isn't excessively oily or dry and has few visible imperfections.
    • Skincare Needs: Normal skin needs a basic skincare routine, including gentle cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection.
  3. Oily Skin:
    • Oily skin tends to produce excess sebum, leading to a shiny complexion, enlarged pores, and a tendency for acne and blackheads.
    • Skincare Needs: Oily skin benefits from lightweight, oil-free moisturizers and gentle, non-comedogenic cleansers. Ingredients like salicylic acid can help control oil production and prevent breakouts.
  4. Combination Skin:
    • Combination skin exhibits characteristics of both oily and dry skin types. Typically, the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) is oily, while the cheeks are normal to dry.
    • Skincare Needs: A skincare routine that addresses both oily and dry areas is essential. Use products formulated for combination skin.
  5. Aging Skin:
    • Aging skin experiences a decrease in collagen and elastin production, leading to wrinkles, fine lines, loss of firmness, and uneven tone and texture.
    • Skincare Needs: Anti-aging skincare needs ingredients like retinoids, vitamin C, peptides, and hyaluronic acid to boost collagen production, improve elasticity, and reduce signs of aging.
  6. Sensitive Skin:
    • Sensitive skin is prone to reactions such as redness, irritation, itching, and stinging in response to various triggers, including skincare products, environmental factors, and certain ingredients.
    • Skincare Needs: Gentle, fragrance-free products formulated for sensitive skin. Use soothing ingredients like aloe vera, and oat extract, and avoid harsh ingredients like alcohol, and fragrances. Patch-testing new products is a must.
SKIN AND IT'S CONCERNS:
1. Acne:
2. Dryness:
3. Oiliness:
4. Hyperpigmentation:
5. Fine lines and wrinkles:
6. Sun damage:
8. Uneven texture:
SKINCARE ACTIVES:
1. Retinoids (Retinol, Retin-A): Derived from Vitamin A, retinoids are potent anti-aging ingredients that promote cell turnover, reduce wrinkles, and improve skin texture and tone.
2. Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid): A powerful antioxidant that brightens skin, fades hyperpigmentation, and boosts collagen production, helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
3. Hyaluronic Acid: A humectant that attracts and retains moisture in the skin, keeping it hydrated, plump, and supple.
4. Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs): Includes glycolic, lactic, and mandelic acids. AHAs exfoliate the skin, improving texture, reducing hyperpigmentation, and enhancing skin cell turnover.
5. Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA): Such as salicylic acid, BHA is oil-soluble and penetrates deep into pores, making it effective for treating acne, blackheads, and whiteheads.
6. Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): Helps to regulate oil production, reduce pore size, improve skin texture, and brighten complexion. It's also known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
7. Peptides: These are amino acid chains that signal the skin to produce more collagen, helping to improve elasticity and firmness, and reduce wrinkles.
  1. Azelaic Acid: Effective for treating acne and rosacea, azelaic acid also helps fade hyperpigmentation and even skin tone.
9. Ceramides: Essential for maintaining the skin barrier function, ceramides help to prevent moisture loss, strengthen the skin's natural protective layer, and soothe dry or irritated skin.
SKINCARE PRODUCTS:
  1. Cleanser:
  2. Removes dirt, oil, makeup, and other impurities from the skin.
  3. Types: Gel cleansers for oily skin, creamy cleansers for dry skin, and gentle cleansers for sensitive skin.
  4. How to Use: Apply a small amount to damp skin, massage gently in circular motions, then rinse with lukewarm water. Use morning and night.
  5. Toner:
    • Balances the skin's pH levels, and preps the skin for subsequent skincare products.

    • How to Use: Apply the toner on your fingers and swipe over cleansed face and neck. Use morning and night.
  6. Serum:
    • Delivers concentrated active ingredients to target specific skin concerns, such as hydration, brightening, or anti-aging.
    • Types: Hydrating serums with hyaluronic acid, vitamin C serums for brightening, and retinol serums for anti-aging.
    • How to Use: Apply a small amount to clean, dry skin and gently pat until absorbed. Follow with moisturizer. Use morning and/or night.
  7. Moisturizer:
    • Hydrates and nourishes the skin, helps to maintain its moisture barrier, and seals in moisture.
    • Types: Lightweight lotions for oily skin, thicker creams for dry skin, and gel moisturizers for combination skin.
    • How to Use: Apply a pea-sized amount to the face and neck, gently massaging in upward motions. Use morning and night, or as needed.
  8. Sunscreen:
    • Protects the skin from harmful UV rays, preventing sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer.

    • How to Use: Apply generously to all exposed skin areas at least 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply every 2 hours or after swimming or sweating.
  9. Exfoliant:
    • Removes dead skin cells, unclogs pores, and promotes skin renewal, resulting in smoother, brighter skin.
    • Types: Physical exfoliants (scrubs) with particles like sugar or oatmeal, chemical exfoliants containing AHAs or BHAs.
    • How to Use: Use 1-3 times per week, depending on skin sensitivity.
  10. Mask:
    • Provides targeted treatment for specific skin concerns, such as hydration, or brightening.
    • Types: Clay masks for deep cleansing, sheet masks for hydration, and overnight masks for intensive treatment.
    • How to Use: Apply a thin/thick layer to cleansed skin, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for the recommended time (usually 10-20 minutes), then rinse or remove as directed.
  11. Eye Cream:
    • Hydrates, firms, brightens and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the delicate eye area.
    • Types: Lightweight creams peptides and caffeine.
    • How to Use: Gently pat a small amount around the eye area using your ring finger, avoiding direct contact with the eyes. Use as per need.

2024.05.07 05:34 teosnova Review for Missha Time Revolution+Glow Cushion, Mixsoon Bean Essence, ample:n peptide shot, Cosrx birch sap lotion, skin1004 hyalu-cica sun serum

Review for Missha Time Revolution+Glow Cushion, Mixsoon Bean Essence, ample:n peptide shot, Cosrx birch sap lotion, skin1004 hyalu-cica sun serum
My skin type is very dry and prone to hormonal acne on my lower face and chin area which I keep at bay with vitamin b5 and 10% benzoyl peroxide. Thanks to AB I successfully faded very stubborn PIH and currently aim for products to give me the glass skin effect and keep my skin hydrated. Here’s a quick rundown of my thoughts:
Cosrx oil free ultra moisturizing lotion with birch sap: I’ve been using this for two weeks and there’s no skin irritation or breakouts. It’s a straightforward no nonsense moisturizer and has a slight medicinal smell with no artificial fragrance to mask it. It’s definitely not as moisturizing as the Cosrx hyaluronic acid intensive cream but that cream is VERY sticky (too sticky in fact) whereas this birch sap lotion is not sticky at all. I wish there was a moisturizer that was somewhere in the middle between these two in terms of texture and hydration power.
Missha First Treatment Essence: in a previous review I complained that I couldn’t tell what the product was supposed to do after 3 weeks. I used it for an additional two months and noticed my skin was ever so slightly more plump looking if that makes sense? It’s an extremely gentle formula that is meant to make a very gradual difference in skin texture and brightening and not at all a dramatic sudden effect so if that’s what you’re looking for this product won’t deliver. Iffy on whether I’d repurchase this.
Missha Glow Cushion: this is my first cushion ever and I’m kicking myself I waited this long to try especially when they’re just as affordable as drugstore brand foundations. I have a thorny relationship with foundations because they give me so many problems whether it’s pilling or sticking to dry flakes and accentuating them, not to mention how hard it is to find a color match that looks natural. Firstly the compact itself is beautiful, I love the pretty purple and how the cushion sits on top with a plastic cap divider separating the foundation. I copied a short video demonstration and took a small dab and lightly tapped starting from the center of my face and spread outwards. I dabbed more on a couple of dark spots and discoloration and the coverage was quite effective. True to the products name though my skin was absolutely glowing and looked luminous. My sister never comments on my skin and she said it looked really good and was surprised when I told her it was bc of my new makeup. (I got the color sand). Time to toss my other foundations which just look like dry grey paint on me.
Skin1004 hyalu-cica sun serum: so many swear by this sunscreen and I finally got my hands on multiple bottles. No white cast as advertised. Moisturizing and no breakouts. Missha cushion foundation sat beautifully on top. I’ll be wearing this every day this spring and summer. My only gripe is the expense as each bottle has less than 2 ounces of product so I’ll be going through them fast.
Ample n: peptide shot: huge bottle so you get a lot of product. The squiggly white bits are actual peptide threads and dissolve when you rub them in. It is quite moisturizing and viscous in texture. After a few weeks I noticed I got tiny whiteheads on my nose and a couple on my cheeks so I switched to using this on my neck and upper chest. Hey it’s anti-aging and I don’t want wrinkles in those areas so might as well.
Mixsoon Bean Essence: I hesitated to buy this bc it’s very pricey for a small amount of product and it seems this sub doesn’t rate it at all. But it’s extremely popular in Korea so curiosity got the best of me. After washing and applying toner I dabbed a few squirts on. Pleasant normal serum texture, added a nice glossy sheen on my face. I saw an influencer say it exfoliates if you keep rubbing with your fingertips and she had tiny balls of dead skin form as she did it. Well I tried doing that and nothing happened. I was bitterly disappointed and pumped a bit more product on my face to try again….and lo and behold there were tiny (very tiny) but hard bits of dead skin appearing under my fingers(!) I was shocked then excited bc I’ve been looking for a gentle and effective exfoliator esp for wearing makeup bc makeup clings to my dry patches and dead skin even after I use strong acid peels like the Ordinary BHA/AHA. I really really like this bean essence, huge upgrade on the snail mucin for me. Just please lower the price bc $35 for that tiny bottle is such a killjoy.

2024.05.05 19:35 Reddfyre135 [Acne] HORMONAL ACNE UPDATE

So I came off the pill last October, having had perfect skin on it for 10 years.
My skin got HORRENDOUS, peaking in March, with cystic acne. It’s been nearly 2 months of my new routine and my skin is thankfully a million times better. Currently just have a few fading spots and no active ones at all! Just sharing what I did in case it helps anyone.
Daily vitamin C, zinc and a hormone balancing supplement (zitsticka Mood Food). Brazil nuts for selenium. Cut down dairy, alcohol and processed sugary foods so generally eating lots healthier. Drinking lots of water. Spearmint tea most days.
Skincare: Double cleansing with Elemis cleansing balm first then Dermalogica active clearing foam wash. Then using the Dermalogica microfoliant in the evenings. Dermalogica age bright serum AM and PM. Then for moisture Elemis procollagen moisturiser and zitsticka SPF 50 in the morning, and Dermalogica active moist in the evening.
Clean pillow cover and face towel everyday. Contacts instead of glasses (was getting horrible spots where my glasses contacted my nose/between eyes) and avoid touching face at ALL. Avoid heavy makeup, just using bare minerals tinted moisturiser instead.
Being consistent with the above has made huge improvement to my skin. And it didn’t even get much worse before my period this month except for 2-3 whiteheads! If anyone is struggling, give it time and don’t lose hope, I’m hoping mine continues to improve and I can go bare faced again.
Any suggestions on how to get rid of dark marks from previous acne fast?

2024.05.05 00:39 kyruns1590 Epidermoid cyst suddenly has huge whitehead

32f, 5’6”, no major health concerns (recently recovered from pneumonia, otherwise generally healthy), daily meds: prenatal vitamins, probiotic, occassionally Flonase
Image of cyst: https://ibb.co/Sv9R02j
About 6 months after having my daughter (in 2020), I noticed a cyst pop up in the middle of my back. Scheduled a derm consult, they diagnosed it as an epidermoid cyst and wanted to excise it. There was some confusion re: meds/breastfeeding safety when the appointment rolled around, so we all chose to just hold off until she weaned since the initial inflammation had calmed down and the cyst was just unsightly. When she weaned, the cyst shrunk even more, and I honestly forgot about it.
About a month after my son was born (2022), I noticed it came back. This time we were in the midst of moving and I didn’t have an established derm, so I went to urgent care and they did an I&D to get me some relief. Everything healed well, and the cyst once again pretty much disappeared when my son weaned.
Suddenly last night I felt it itching and looked and sure enough, it was swelling back up. Throughout the day today, it has gotten slightly more irritated and when I looked, I noticed a huge whitehead that I’ve never seen on it before. Overall it’s about the size of a dime (hasn’t gotten bigger over the years).
I have an appointment with my PCP on Monday for a different issue and plan to call the derm to take care of it once and for all, but curious what I could/should do until then to manage it. It’s not painful, just itching and slightly irritated from my shirt rubbing against it. Does this seem like a normal inflamed cyst or should I be concerned about bacterial infection? I’ve been on antibiotics that wrecked my gut for pneumonia in the past month and reacted poorly to the levaquin they put me on to finally knock it, so I’m hoping to avoid needing to take/have any antibiotics or really other meds right now.

2024.05.02 22:26 OkForce2990 nothing is helping

nothing is helping
I've been on spironolactone for a little over two months, and terrible and doxycycline for 5 weeks. I have noticed a slight decrease in the number of whiteheads I get, but I am still getting them frequently and my skin is so dry and irritated now. I am female, 22 and have recently had perfect skin until Jan when this all started. I've always been a skincare person because I had bad acne in high school but it had gone away until now. It seems to be hormonal, only on my chin, my nose and forehead are still like the glass skin I used to have. I've literally tried everything (pimple patches, blue light mask, silk pillowcases, hair bonnets, double cleansing, benzoyl peroxide, OTC retinols, salicylic acid, improving my diet, pro and prebiotics, vitamins, skincare to fix my skin barrier, etc.) the list goes on and on. I don't know what else to do, whenever I'm in public, people stare at the lower half of my face. It hurts so bad, and my self esteem has been so low that I haven't been social at all. My current skincare routine is: Byoma creamy jelly cleanser (AM and PM), skin 1004 probio-cica ampoule (AM and PM), skin 1004 soothing cream (AM and PM), skin 1004 hyla-cica water fit sunscreen (AM), tretinoin 0.025% (PM once every three days), neutrogena benzoyl peroxide 10% gel on non tretinoin days. I don't wear makeup besides eyeliner and mascara and I don't pick at my skin. My family is visiting for graduation next week, and one of my family members asks what's wrong with my face and if i'm taking care of it whenever I have acne. Any help at all would be appreciated, I'm just at a loss here.

2024.05.01 00:09 joannejones0102 [Product Question] Anua Heartleaf Pore Control cleansing oil causing breakouts, blackheads, and irritation…?

I started using the product about 4 weeks ago. Every night (maybe missed a couple) I would apply it to dry skin, cleanse gently in circular motions for about 1-2 minutes, emulsify with water, rinse with water, then follow up with a water based cleanser. I would then use a hydrating toner, apply a bean essence, and vitamin serum, followed by a light moisturiser, all of which I’ve used previously and haven’t broken me out. I don’t wear makeup very often.
The pores on my nose and between my brows were significantly “cleansed” and reduced in size/visibility. However, within a week my chin and forehead became overwhelmed with proper visible blackheads, and not just “blocked pores”, but big proper dark, raised blackheads with local redness. I also have been breaking out in places I wouldn’t normally be with small whiteheads, and large cystic acne spots. Similarly, I’ve also had general redness and slight irritation on my chin.
I convinced myself that it was probably just my skin “purging” from not having had a proper skincare routine for a while, however, some research has shown that this probably shouldn’t be happened with these products.
I’ve since stopped using the Anua heartleaf cleansing oil, and switched to Garnier Micellar water for my initial cleanse, and the spots and irritation cleared within 3 days…
I really wanted to love this product, and did for a week, but it just isn’t for me. Maybe I could isolate it’s use to my nose and brows only?? Because the results there are impeccable.
Has anyone had this problem and found a different cleansing oil which has been okay for them?

2024.04.30 23:51 joannejones0102 Anua Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil is not for me…

2024.04.30 16:38 producerofconfusion Closer chest whiteheads

Hi all! I am a few years under 45 but I was told that due to my early menopause my skin care needs might match this age brackets better.
A few weeks back I started getting these closed whiteheads on my face and chest. I switched to a mugwort cleanser that my face seems to like, but I woke up to this mess again. Thanks to my super sensitive skin, each pinhead sized zit looks like a bomb site for extra embarrassment
So, where am I fucking up my skin? Any suggestions?
Morning: Acid free toner (currently using a rice based toner) TO copper peptide buffet TO soothing barrier serum Herbivore pink cloud/FAB ultra repair cream
Evening: Glycolic toner SR CEO vitamin c serum Pacifica ceramide face oil Adapalene and spot use of salicylic acid

2024.04.30 14:47 schadenfreud5 from Tret to Epiduo (feeling helpless)

I've been using tretinoin since july 2021, was on 0.025 the first 2 years and upped to 0.05 almost a year ago.. my journey has seen a lot of ups and downs since i've been battling with acne since my teenage years (29 now), before tret i went on 2 courses of accutane, had clear skin for about 2 years after each course and then back to square 1 again.
Now on tret, i've had good moments and then very bad ones, my skin would clear up for a few months (minus the one or two obligatory period pimples), and then would freak out with so many breakouts out of nowhere, with no change in my routine or in my life, mostly on my cheeks and chin, and would all leave hyperpigmentation. Whenever i think i've finally got the hang of it and perfected my routine it would happen again and it's honestly getting depressing.. i try not to think of it so much but i just can't help it.
i tried many actives throughout the years and most have left me with worse skin than before so i'm very careful about any switch i make, among these : differin (about 6 months before i switched to tret because it was not working) benzoyl peroxide 5% (for the first months on tret), azelaic acid 15% (isispharma metroruboril, year 2, broke me out horribly for the 4 months i gave it a try), salicylic acid (tried it in a serum and cleanser, did nothing but dry me out), vitamin c 20% (revox, started a month ago, can't tell yet if it's helping with hyperpigmentation but it's definitely giving me a slight fake tan look), i tried exfoliants (mainly mandelic or glycolic acid, only once a month), no exfoliants, moisturizer, no moisturizer... while some of these seemed to work for a bit, nothing has been able to make a long term change.
2 weeks ago, my skin had no active breakouts but is full of PIE and PIH, so i decided to go see a derm and ask for a TCA peel or even something more gentle.. when it was time to see her last week, my skin had a few new whiteheads and CCs, so she recommended getting a facial with extractions (and said that a peel is not a good idea and should get laser instead).. i got the facial, and it has left me with many new breakouts and hyperpigmentation that i can tell will take way too long to treat again... she also recommended i switch to EPIDUO and add azelaic acid 15%, this time with a product specifically for acne, also from isispharma (Teenderm).
i'm honestly lost, idk if the switch is the right thing to do at this point, especially that i already tried differin and BP, although not at the same time.. i'm also nervous about having to start all over again and possibly go through a new purge and further irritation. One thing i know for a fact is that i'm never getting a facial again.. it's just not worth it.
i'm sorry for making this too long idk why i ranted this much, i dont think all of this info is even relevant but i couldn't stop myself from typing it all out.. I guess i'm asking if anyone has also made the switch or just been on epiduo, what has been their experience with it, and what advice they would give.
Current routine (before the facial) :
*AM : rinse with water + Benton deep green tea toner + Revox vitamin C 20% + Sensilis sunscreen fluid spf50
*PM : Caudalie oil cleanser + LRP Effaclar H cleanser + Benton green tea toner and/or serum + Uriage Barié-derm cica Daily gel crème moisturizer + Tret 0.05 (20-30min after).
p.s. i've recently ordered tranexamic acid serum from cos de baha and thinking about adding it instead of vitamin c.

2024.04.27 15:17 formhighest3 Age reversal routine?

I’ve been aware of age-reversing protocols for years now and was hoping to post in this sub to see if anyone could give me their tips on what to do first, then next, etc. I’m someone that fell off drastically during COVID. I’m 37 but appear younger normally; however, I gained a ton of weight back then - 5’3 (177 lbs). Now I weigh around 138 lbs, but I have wrinkles, grey hair at my temples from stress the last few years, and really lackluster skin (not juicy plump/glass skin), and my body needs toning. Combination of oily/normal skin, usually no acne but tons of whiteheads on nose and chin. What would be your protocol, i.e., to start first, then next, etc., to reverse some of the aging/damage? I just started a new job, so I will be able to get bloodwork done. Have some vitamins. Over the last two weeks, I started a whole food plant-based eating routine that I hope to maintain indefinitely.
TL/DR: I gained a lot of weight and stress during the pandemic and now look much older. How can I reverse the aging with a looksmaxx regime?

2024.04.25 17:04 69Whomst Acne supplements?

I'm currently on the waiting list to see a dermatologist, but I live in England and the NHS is a shambles, so God knows when I'll finally get to see a dermatologist. I have mild/Moderate acne, all scabby whiteheads with the occasional under the skin bump, mostly popping up a week or so before my period. I currently take 1000mg of evening primrose oil for it, and wash my face every day with African black soap, and that has helped a lot. I did try solgar brand zinc, but I think that just made it worse. I also take iron supplements, vitamin d and vitamin b complex, alongside my prescription medications (levothyroxine, antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticholinergics). Is there anything I could use or take to improve my acne? Tia!

2024.04.22 12:51 VariousResist774 [Anti-Aging] My retinol is causing me wrinkles

Hello!
I started using ”âme pure retinol & vitamin c serum” a little over a month ago. At first I noticed huge positive changes in my skin, my complexion was brighter and my stubborn whiteheads that were all over my face disappeared etc. I used it 2 times a day like the packaging said.
My issue started a few weeks ago. I noticed I had started to get wrinkes on my forehead. I read online that it can be because I’m using the retinol wrong(?) and/or too much of it.
I just bought new bottle, this time ”The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% in squalane”. I really don’t want it to go to waste and I dont want my acne to come back. This has really been the only thing that has worked for my acne. But I also dont want to get wrinkles, I’m only 23-years old(!).
Should I stop using retinol completely? Or how should I go about this? Use it 3x a week and/or only at night? Has anyone else had the same issue?

2024.04.21 21:40 princesshourglasss Help fine tuning my routine?

Hi there! Due to some of my concerns being very niche, Ill be giving detail on some medical issues / skincare for that purpose. This is just to make sure the advice given can be for my needs (i hope). Please do not ask me to stop / adjust these, I just want to maximize my skincare around these issues and really wanted some input ❤️
I (34F) have a rare medical condition that causes frequent and severe infections, as such I have had a pretty strict skincare program that Ive followed for years to prevent open skin sites.
My general routine is very simplistic, but fleshed out by prescription additives.
Current skin concerns:
Facially i struggle with periodic whiteheads, largely controlled cystic acne, atrophic scarring, blackheads, hyperpigmentation, infected hair follicles (medication and PCOS induced hair growth, it isnt terrible but does increase skin eruptions around the neck and chin). Enlarged pores and generalized uneveness.
On my body i have blackheads / white heads / cystic acne, particularly where clothing seams have contact
Current regimen:
Mornings- -Rinse skin to remove nightly skincare, as I find most cleansing to be irritating to my skin in the AM. -I follow with a vitamin C serum every other day, them use a gel moisturizer (I dont list brands as I switch between often, i dont seem to have much issue as long as the product is gel). -Once that is dry, I always use SPF 40 or 50, currently favoring the Biore Aqua Riche Water Gel -Follow with primer and makeup once everything has time to absorb
Nights- -Remove eye makeup with cold cream -Remove skin makeup with micellar water -Initial cleanse with makeup removing wash (generic) -Cleanse skin with prescription face wash (similar to hibiclens, but formulated for face) -Mild calming / moisturizing toner (currently a Corsx product I cant recall) -I then mix a Keys Squalene Facial Oil with a Niacinamde Booster (it claims to be designed to be mixed in?) and a Hyaluronic Acid Gel and apply to skin, largely as this seems to rehydrate following the previous stripping cleanser. I let this fully absorb -Tretinoin 1% every other evening, let absorb fully -Add on a thick moisturizer (first aid beauty is a staple, but ill use others if i have them), and a skin barrier improving emollient on top
Throughout Week: -Ill do physical exfoliation once a week or so, or my nose tends to peel -AHA / BHA exfoliation twice a week, generally ordinary brand -Moisturizing facial mask on the weekend, and additionally during the week when time allows -Hibiclens similar as bodywash twice a week to reduce infections -Prescription Antiseptic Bodywash daily (i usually mix with a hydrating scented bodywash) -Manual Exfoliation with sugar scrub or sponge on body twice a week -Prescription Clindamycin Lotion on open skin sites on body and face
This regimen has vastly improved the number of skin infections I’ve experienced, and now that this is better controlled im looking for small tweaks i can add to improve the damage being done.
Im considering adding a Glycolic Acid Mask / Peel for the atrophic scarring, and as a spray for my back / legs where clothing contact is an issue
Im open to brand / product suggestions too
Also, suggestions to help repair my skin barrier with all of these harsh prescription products
I also take two daily oral antibiotics and receive donated antibodies intravenously, and have IV hydration/ malnutrition issues. These are factors, but are being addressed.
My appearance is one thing i have some limited control of, and Id like to maximize my self care routine for the sake of my self confidence and mental health, so i welcome suggestions ❤️
