But the hard part is finding a way that my friend is eligible?
Friend is currently homeless and we have been friends for 15+ years and I'm scared of losing him to the homelessness. He is working on his situation and trying to get a job to have some money when he gets here.
Is it easiest for him to get a passport, find a job that hires non-residents and see if he can get an offer letter there for entry?

My husband and I purchased a home and finally got the clear to close from the bank with a closing date of 6/6. We just gave our Landlord notice that we will not be renewing our lease. We were contracted from 8/1/23-7/31/24. Additionally, there is a clause in our lease that states we have to give 60 days notice if we were to break our lease early. So not only are we stating we aren't renewing, but we technically gave over 60 days notice.
We just got a text that said they will be scheduling showings for the apartment (which we of course expected), but also that we will be responsible for August 2024 rent if the apartment does not rent out. We reviewed our lease thoroughly, and nowhere does it state we would be responsible for a full months rent after our lease contract end date.
Just looking for opinions and insight here. We have never had any issues with our Landlords, so this was a bit unexpected for us. TIA.

I literally just found out about CCS yesterday, and I really want to apply. My only problem is the letters of rec. My only chem teacher that I had in 10th grade left my school and though she might be the only one who can speak on my passion for chemistry, the one time I asked her for a letter of rec was for a summer program. she wrote it in like 30 minutes without asking for my brag sheet, and I didn't get into the program. Not saying it was her fault, I'm just not sure if I entirely trust her to write me another letter.
I would much rather have my math teacher who has taught me in three different classes, and my environmental science teacher who is the coach of my science bowl team, write my letters. They don't have the best knowledge on my chemistry passion, however they do know about my overall passion for stem.
Do you think having non chemistry teachers write my letters of rec will affect my chances of getting into CCS for chemistry?

I already applied 2.5 months ago for passport renewal in respective consulate, but did not get a new passport yet. I need to travel to my homeland for urgent personal matters.
Question: If I leave the Schengen zone, will I be able to come back to Luxembourg without a passport valid for 3 months but with a valid residence permit?

Full disclosure - I’m a parent, not a student. Got permission to share my kid’s results, and wanted to share my thoughts on the process overall.

Current college: small regional LAC located in the Northwest. Majored in creative writing.
ECs: (going to be a little vague here) In high school started 2 organizations dedicated to women’s rights issues. Active in high school student government and advocating on behalf of marginalized communities on campus. Also did mock trial. In college, continued working for women’s rights organization in college both on campus and with a state-wide lobbying group.
Rec Letters: 2, both from professors. Class sizes were very small and kid was a frequent visitor of office hours. Didn’t read letters but assume they were pretty positive.

Tips from a Parent:
Do the Math: look at the common data sets from a few years back to get a sense of how easy (or not easy) it really is to transfer in. My kid wanted to transfer out no matter what, so we chose specific non T25 schools to increase the odds of success.
Dig into the Details: my kid’s reason for transferring was pretty straightforward - wanted to study a major (gender studies) that wasn’t offered at the LAC she attended. But that’s just the beginning. Essays really focused on the opportunities kid would have at (insert new school) including classes and professors, research opportunities, clubs and organizations, etc. Essays also talked about career aspirations and how transferring would help her achieve those goals. Compared to freshman applications, I’d say the narrative throughout her transfer application as a whole was way more cohesive and compelling this time around.
Be Real: Let’s face it, if you’re on this sub there’s a good chance you didn’t get the results you wanted the first time around. If you’re happy to stay at your current school but hoping to move up the T25 ladder, shoot your shot and hope for the best. But if you really want/need to transfer for whatever reason, make sure there’s some non T25 schools on your list so you (hopefully) have choices come May/June.

In 2019 I had a very unpleasant separation/divorce with family court involvement. The family court case resulted in our 2 children living with mother and spending time with me (father) on an equal 50/50 split.
The stress of the divorce and family court case caused me to stop working for some time. Shortly after the family court judgement I made a UC claim so I could provide for my children. When asked if the children lived with me I explained about the court order and the fact they would be with me 50% of the time. I even supplied the court order to UC for them to see this judgement.
The claim was awarded and since then I have been receiving UC every month. Yesterday I received a letter stating I had to attend a telephone compliance interview which I have just completed.
The agent on the phone told me that as I wasn't claiming child benefit my UC claim has been flagged, and in fact only the parent in receipt of child benefit can claim UC. Mother claims child benefit for both children and refused to relinquish half of this, despite the children living with me and me paying equally for all their expenses.
Consequently, UC tell me my claim is incorrect which means not only will they stop my UC, I will also have to repay the last 4 years as they are technically "overpayments" - this could be over £20k.
I am at a loss as to what to do - UC have advised me to try and find some proof I am the main contact at my children's school, doctors, dentists etc... though I fail to see what difference this will make as legally I am a non resident parent (and don't get me started on fathers roles being diminished by the family court, that's another story altogether!)
I queried why the DWP accepted my claim in the first place if it was wrong, to which I was told they were approving any claim with children involved during the pandemic. I also queried why its taken them 4 years to raise this to which they had no answer other than my account had just been flagged.
Surely this should not be my problem if they were not following their own rules when deciding to award the claim? I have never been anything but completely honest with them and as I mentioned earlier, they saw a copy of the court order in relation to the children's living arrangements at the time of the claim.
I'm at a loss as to where to go from here. Any advice would be hugely appreciated, thanks for reading.

Hello, please could any of you help me. I’m 46F, 152lbs non smoker, asthmatic.
I had the mirena coil put in on the 2nd October 2022. After one week of very mild cramps I suddenly had horrific pain, reminiscent of being in labour (I have two children) except without breaks in between contractions. It was so bad I had to get my TENS machine out and was breathless with pain.
I returned to the clinic where they said the coil had pushed a polyp through my cervix. They removed the coil and the polyp and biopsies the polyp (all clear). My pain levels improved to the point where I could now stand up and speak and appear ok, but they remained really quite severe.
Over the months additional issues have occurred which my doctor believes is fibromyalgia and IBS due to the stress of the pain and chronic migraines. My eyesight has dimmed and my hands have become clumsy, dropping pots and pans and knives while cooking and chopping.
It’s now roughly 19 months later and I’m still in severe pain. Every test so far has been clear. I have had an ultrasound and a transvaginal ultrasound, an x-ray, a CT scan of my abdomen, an MRI of my head, blood tests for everything including autoimmune, a colonoscopy and an endoscopy, plus a hysteroscopy and an endometrial pipelle sample taken.
Nobody can see any reason why I’m in such pain, although they’ve all been very nice. They’re talking about a laparoscopy next which I don’t really want. I have a kid with disabilities to take care of. This all started with the coil and I feel it has to have something to do with that.
My pain is all encompassing, it feels like permanently being in labour, with that same sense of urgency. It is hard to find any joy or interest in life and I’m literally just enduring every day. I’ve been given amytripaline which helped the pain for the first two months but now isn’t doing very much to help.
Thank you for any insight or suggestions you might have. I’m quite desperate at this point.

Hi guys, I just got my letter of introduction for the IEC visa! All good to go pending decision of border officer once I arrive in Canada.
I am planning to arrive in Canada in January 2025. My passport expires in 2025, so I need to renew it before I go.
I believe this means I need to apply for a new eTA once I get my new passport. However, is it a problem that my LOI and visa will be for my old passport that I had at the time of applying? Do I just need to make sure to take both passports with me?

I won't have any family financial support during medical school because I come from a low SES background and other issues so I will be entirely reliant on loans. Since FAFSA was delayed this year I haven't received a financial package yet but I am assuming it will only be student loans.
I am considering doing the Air Force HPSP because they have the SOST (Special Operations Surgical Team) and enlisting was something I was thinking about after HS but my family wasn't supportive of it. However, now I don't care if they are supportive or not lol and going into the military has been lingering in the back of my mind, but I have other considerations since I'm starting medical school at 27 years old.
I missed the chance to apply for the 4-year scholarship since I start school this August but I could still apply for the 3-year scholarship. I broke down my current student loans, school cost of attendance, and other considerations against HPSP below. Thank you for any advice!
Student Loans Before Medical School
Total: $59,951.01
Half are subsidized and the other half is unsubsidized
Currently, some of them are in forbearance while others are still in the grace period so I don't have to pay while I am waiting to start school however I think I can do the SAVE plan to stop the interest? Honestly can't afford to make payments on them right now.
Cost of Attendance from School Website
Tuition and Fees: $66,924
Indirect Expenses (Living Expenses): $29,725
Health Insurance: $5,354
Loan Orientation Fee: $1,082
Total: $103,085
I will have no credit card debt going into medical school and they are all 0% APR right now (Applying to medical school was expensive lol)
I have a non-renewable scholarship for $18,900
Other considerations
As of right now, I am interested in orthopedics and all my research right now is all bone related but I am very open to changing my mind in medical school
My long-term (2-3 years) gf doesn't really like the idea of me going into the military because she thinks it's dangerous
I want to start a family around 31-32 around the end of my first year of residency and we plan to save money from her working while I'm in medical school so she can be a stay-at-home home while I'm a resident. If I did HPSP then my resident stipend would be higher and we could have a comfortable life financially while I'm in residency.
If I do get the 3-year HPSP then my current loans and first-year loans will be $144,136.01 and I will owe the military 3 years of service. The other route I would take if I didn't do HPSP would be doing PSLF and hoping I can match a residency that qualifies for PSLF so I would have to practice for another 4-5 years until PSLF clears the debt.

For a long time I've had the wish to do some form of penpalling in charactesnail mail role playing! ^^ I would really like to do this as a common hobby with someone I'm really friends with but as I'll only just be meeting you, we wouldhave to (get to! ^^) get to know each other while doing this! ^^
The reason why I'd like a proper friendship out of this, aside from it simply being very great to make a friend =) is because I would like for this to be a long term thing. I would love to get to know you and the creations of your fantasy! Have fun bouncing ideas off of each other, deciding what kind of story we want to tell! In what kind of setting ? What kind of world ? Characters completely of our own ? Or perhaps fandom ? ^^
And I would want it to not stay as a one time thing! ^^ So many great and fun possibilities! Why not do it again and again! ^^ I would like for this to be our thing, our hobby! Yours and mine ^^
Actual friends with understanding and respect for each other and potential life situations, doing a fun hobby together =) So that we both would feel comfortable communicating and saying if life gets busy or stressful and one of us would like to or need to pause the letters/emails, maybe for a while continue it on Discord on an idea level only =) And so in the best case scenario we could eventually pick it up again=) Or move on to a different plot ^^
For the first time we do this, I'd suggest that we find a theme that we both will be really excited to play! ^^ And if we do hit if off and eventually get to tell another tale, as is my hope, I would be happy to explore a setting that I'm less drawn to by myself, if such a theme is among your favourites =)
That being said I like most genres and can definitely enjoy all, given the right tropes haha and circumstances! ^^
Some samples from the tangles of my brain of genres, plots, settings, themes and tropes that I like are:
Magic Fantasy Dystopias Dark themes in general Horror but in a sense and to an extent Mafia Cults Serial killers Religious themes Religious horror in particular Kings and courts in whatever setting ^^
Aaand to not come across as a complete psycho I feel the need to affirm that I DO ALSO LIKE COMEDY AND LIGHTHEARTED STUFF!! And haha, if I didn't mention it, it doesn't mean that I don't like it =) These were just off the top of my head =)
As I mention in the post title I'm 26, soon to be 27 years old and I would feel most comfortable getting to know someone close to my age or any age older =) Maybe like 22/23+ ? ^^ But it is of course not an absolute.

Hey y’all. I successfully got my Visa in September of 2023. I was looking on my residency permit (the little ID) and it says valid until December of this year. I thought the visa was valid for 2 years, so technically shouldn’t this say valid until September 2025? I’m freaking out because I’m signing a lease and making plans to stay another year. Do we have to renew the residency permit or is mine really only valid for 1 year? I have an eligible masters degree and the home office website says it’s valid for 2 years. Please, does anyone know why this says that?? I’m freaking out!

So as ya'll know, Myself, Fern and Tom had planned some Mother's Day gifts for MIL. I gotta admit, I was worried that Margaret would show up and ruin the whole thing, but it was actually a surprisingly good day- mostly because she wasn't there, which was the OBVIOUS elephant in the room the whole time. Tom worked the grill for a while and we had MIL open the gifts I had planned - it was a small pirate chest filled with letters from Myself, Fern, and Tom telling her how wonderful of a mother she was (I had aged them and weathered them to look waterlogged and like they'd been around for a long time). I made her a boondoggle that said "number one mom" that had our names dangling from it. She opened the collage...the whole thing left her in happy tears, which was nice but also sad at the same time. She said "OP, you're such a shit for making me cry" then gave me a big hug. MIL started to talk about it all ("It's been really rough and I've been having a really hard time"), but it was cut off by the men fussing over the grill. I made the rest of lunch and we had a really, really good time for the most part.
I clocked FIL's behavior in Margaret's absence. He wandered off into the yard and stood by himself for extended periods of time, staring at the ground in silence. I registered it as pain- I'm not gonna lie, it was PALPABLE how much easier and fun and quiet the afternoon was with Margaret being intentionally excluded. I could tell that MIL really needed to talk about what was going on, especially since she was being absolutely flooded with love (in stark contrast to what she's been receiving from Margaret). I approached her towards the end of the evening- she revealed to me what she had put in the letter. Essentially, it reads something like this.
"dear Margaret- I am sorry that we are having such a hard time seeing eye to eye. I have had my conflicts with Fern and Tom in the past that we have been able to resolve; Since you do not wish to speak to me directly, I am hoping that we can communicate this way to see each other more clearly. I think youre upset with me because I married your dad- but I am not sure because you will not tell me what is wrong. I want to make peace with you, but I cannot do that with you so blatantly disrespecting me. I feel like I deserve an apology- I feel used by you, especially since I signed your lease for you when you asked right before this happened. Please write me back so we can resolve this, I love you."
Apparently, MIL had FIL read it before she sent it- this looks like a last ditch effort to rectify the tension, but I'm not sure what the outcome will be because we ALL know that Margaret is going to freak the fuck out the second she reads it. Margaret can't handle any blame and has no sense of accountability. We can all see it coming- so definitely expect an update on that.
On the ride home I absolutely fell apart. It made me so sad that she has had to go to these lengths to remedy a situation that she didn't cause in the first place. I was also very, very angry at FIL and basically the whole family for letting this go on for as long as it has.. I ended up confronting Tom about this again. I told him that there are 600 strangers on reddit calling him and his whole family spineless, and that I have found myself defending them because I know otherwise, but that in this situation those 600 strangers are absolutely right. I said that I know his dad is human, but that they are all a bunch of cowards for the "fend for yourself, just let it go" attitude they have when it comes to each of them being so wildly abused and disrespected AS A FAMILY. Fern deserves better than to have a sister that has told ME that "the reason Fern got SA'd as a kid is because h"e put himself out there like that" (excuse me?). Cory deserves better than a wife who threatens to call the cops on him for not making her dinner (huh?) . Tom deserves a better sister than one who has called me to tell me "He's a creep and I bet he's done things to little girls before" (no idea where that one came from). MIL deserves better than someone who asks her for money and favors only to turn around and rip her to shreds (the entitlement?). And FIL deserves better than to have such little self esteem that he'd rather watch his family disintegrate rather than cut out the cancer.
Yeah, I was heated. Margaret makes shit up, takes things out of context, and regularly demonstrates that she genuinely feels the world is out to get her and that everyone else is the problem. I did not let up.
Tom listened very patiently- we exchanged a lot of words and the conversation took over an hour, the end result being "My dad is nearing approachable about this subject. Today showed him the kind of life we can have without her; you definitely launched a psychological bomb at him with how well you planned the day and how much you showed MIL that she's worth something. He's struggling, but I promise that I'll talk to him about it soon. We talk 3 times a week, he knows its coming."
The last statement I made was "I am not an 'on the fence' person. I'm the only one who has outright picked a side- and it's not Margaret's because I refuse to enable this insanity anymore. It's wrong, and you guys are wrong for coddling a grown woman's hurt ego knowing that its harming literally EVERYONE else in the family. Pick a side, and be done with it. I refuse to let MIL go this alone."
We will see how much longer the circus goes on. I anticipate the events that happened this weekend leading to the biggest blow up that Margaret has had yet- the shady online posts have already started (per Tom, who has found it amusing and low of her). It's about to get a lot crazier when this letter hits, and even worse when she eventually visits FIL and sees a giant collage with all the kids except for her.
There's SO many of you that have said that you are emotionally invested in my story- I'll continue to update so we all get the closure we need. Thanks for all the support (and trash talking, I've gotten quite a few LOLs out of the comments).
