Ever-shifting Short Seller Claims

The short sellers attacking RILY in 2023-2024 have been relentless, with an ever-shifting list of wild accusations.
It's sickening to watch them compile a never-ending list of baseless wild theories and claims to support their short positions, which are demonstrably false. But as each is proved false, they pivot to new claims, and/or change the goalposts.
The sheer volume of shifting claims makes it hard to track how despotic they are with their "platform," and how many falsehoods they've spun. Even for someone who watched it in real-time, for almost a year

Compiled & Debunked

Sunlight kills vampires. To that end, I've compiled a list of (i) claimants (ii) claims (iii) reality (iv) definitive source proving reality.

Why Did They Target RILY?

One of the most vocal short sellers, Nate Koppikar (who also introduced Marc Cohodes to the "opportunity") has a fund Orso Partners. Based on their SEC registration document, this is their investment thesis:
"The Account’s investment objectives are to achieve capital appreciation primarily by identifying and selling short marketable equity securities of underfollowed and complex companies with misleading or corrective disclosures through a research-intensive process. The Account employs a short-biased investment strategy with an emphasis on primarily small to mid-cap companies that are underfollowed and complex (i.e., companies with market capitalizations of less than $5 billion which the market does not yet have a wellformed bull and/or bear perspective)."
RILY fits their description. The icing on the cake was the relatively large market cap, and the relatively small float. Given extremely high insider ownership (32.9% of shares per the proxy), and limitations on when and how insiders can trade, the "free float" of the stock (i.e., the shares that regularly trade) is very small for the size of the company. Moreover, the setup would only get better - given insiders have consistently used their free cash to buy additional shares hand-over-fist (further reducing the float).
That meant, with relatively small amounts of capital, the short sellers could shove around the stock price. That ability to move price opens another profit avenue - taking large derivative positions (buying puts, and selling calls), and shoving the price (or allowing it to drift up) to profit all along the way. It looked so good, the stock has been the highest-shorted on the US indices for several months. Even after the release of the 10-K, shares remain "hard to borrow" with elevated borrow fees.

Debunked Claims

The claims made by vocal short sellers could fill a book. Most were outrageous and fanciful when they were proposed. Virtually all have objectively debunked. This isn't a comprehensive list, as their claims are too numerous and varied. But it paints an illuminating picture.
With a track record this poor, one would expect the short sellers to exit - rather than continuing to spin new narratives. Perhaps the continued attacks are their exit strategy to avoid bankruptcy... Well, #Bullish.
With the highest short interest of all US stocks (albeit likely decreased from the highs of ~76% of the float), I think this is more than ripe for a return to fair value - or well above, if a short squeeze occurs.
Note that the list below deliberately excludes three types of posts/claims from the short sellers:
A) Juvenile personal attacks and attempts to character assassinate and dox a long list of people (RILY CEO, RILY new hires, RILY clients, Marcum the auditor, Marcum's lead audit professional, any firm or individual publicly posting a bull thesis on RILY, etc.).
B) Those that make no objective claims, but simply exist as a product of malicious degeneracy (like pictures of roasted pigs in ovens labeled Bryant Riley the CEO, photoshopped pictures of the CEO in prison chains next to convicted felons, video of an obese woman barely able to walk being gored by a bull labeled Mrs. Riley the CEO's wife, etc.).
C) Those that are impossible for short sellers to know, and impossible to objectively verify (e.g., Marc Cohodes claiming a single RILY trader front runs the CEOs personal short trades in front of clients taking following the firm's bullish advice on those stocks, to guarantee profits).

INTRO

Dan John has once again released another book, and I, once again, voraciously consumed it, because Dan John could write instructions on a tube of toothpaste and I would read every single word of it. In turn, I’ll save you all the suspense of reading this full review just to say: yes, BUY Dan’s latest book, because irrespective of if you run the program(s) in it, the book itself is pure concentrated Dan John gold and absolutely worth any price tag. And, since the book JUST came out and I JUST finished reading it, I want to be clear that I am not reviewing the PROGRAM(S) in the book, but just the book itself.
But I certainly see myself using what’s in the book someday.

WHERE AND WHAT

To start, you can get the book here
There are 3 books listed. Do yourself a favor and buy all 3, BUT, if you want the one I’m talking about, it’s the one listed “The Armor Building Formula: Bodybuilding for Real People eBook”
And that, in turn, describes WHAT this book is: bodybuilding for real people. In that sense, bodybuilding does not mean “bodybuilding”: the competitive event wherein you put on posing trunks, step out on stage and get evaluated on your physique, nor is this a book to achieve the goals OF that event. This is a very classical sense of the word bodybuilding: to build one’s body, through the concentrated effort of resistance training, in order to specifically achieve an increase in the size of one’s muscles (and, ideally, muscles that are pleasing to the eyes of others). And by “Real People”, he’s referring to those of us that live in the real world and have real world obligations (work, family, school, etc) and don’t get to live the influencer lifestyle of being able to train for hours a day everyday.
There’s a fair chance that YOU are a real person who is also more interested in Dan John’s bodybuilding than in “bodybuilding”, so you may find that the contents of the book appeal to you.

WHAT YOU GET

Inside the book is THE Armor Building Formula, which is Dan John’s bodybuilding program that is entirely reliant on just kettlebells. Before you stop reading because you don’t have/don’t like kettlebells, there is a section with barbells too, I’ll talk about that too. But yes: you get Dan’s program in this book.
“Armor Building” is here because it references an idea Dan has regarding “armor building” in the athletic sense: putting on the muscle in the right spots that allow a collision athlete to be able to handle what is thrown at them. BUT it ALSO references Dan John’s “Armor Building Complex” (ABC), which is a kettlebell complex that does a fantastic job of accomplishing this very goal of building armor. The ABC is comprised of 2 double kettlebell cleans, 1 double kettlebell press, and 3 double kettlebell front squats. It is a fantastic full body complex that hits just about everything, and can be used to absolutely blow out your lungs, finish out a kettlebell certification, get strong AND, in the case of this book, bodybuilding.
The OTHER half of the Armor Building Formula is the kettlebell clean and press, with Dan providing 4 specific pressing variations to satisfy to ADHD demands of any trainee. Dan makes a compelling argument for WHY the KB Clean and Press reigns in the world of physique building, specifically referencing how a pair of big strong shoulders and well developed glutes tend to be the secret to a wonderful physique. Given my own prescription in “Chaos is the Plan”, you know I’m a fan of this philosophy.
In the book, Dan details an 8 week program to follow for the Armor Building Formula. In true Dan John style, there are no prescribed weights, reps or sets: merely guidelines BUT, with an end goal in weeks 7 and 8: 30 ABCs in 30 minutes, and 100 KB clean and presses. Very similar to Mass Made Simple, you know the goal going in (squat your bodyweight for 50 reps) and you know the method: it’s on you to do the work.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE

Also contained in the book is “The Barbell Armor Building Formula”: a program that can be run with just a barbell. Dan John’s Barbell ABC is premised around 2 movements: the “continuous clean and press” and the front squat. For those of you that speak strongman, the continuous clean and press is “clean each rep and press”, as opposed to “clean and press away”, wherein you clean the weight once and then do all your presses. With this, Dan gives you 3 programs to be run sequentially for a total of 11 weeks, followed by another 8 week barbell program that includes a few more movements (curl, press, row and deadlift) which, with some breaks, totals out to 20 weeks of training.
On top of THIS, Dan ALSO gives you a prescription on how to perform the ABC if you only have one kettlebell, along with what to do if you only have mixed loads (no 2 KBs of the same weight).
He ALSO includes methodology on including his “Easy Strength” program into these bodybuilding programs, which I personally appreciated because it meant I wasn’t absolutely off my rocker when I combined Easy Strength with Mass Made Simple.
Dan ALSO includes a few other programs in the book, one simply titled “A Bonus Program”, which requires a bit more equipment (most notably, a machine row), one of Reg Park’s programs, a sample of Frank Zane’s programming (more as an example of what the book ISN’T…but hey, it’s still there), and some helpful warm up instructions too.

WHAT YOU ALSO GET

Just tons and tons of nuggets of Dan John wisdom, all on the topic of bodybuilding for sure, but also very easy to expand into the realm of for real training in general, and life as well. Dan goes into topics on warming up, cooling down, the value of walking, nutrition, the science of muscular development, historical precedents, strength standards, etc. It’s 198 pages, and they’re all pretty awesome.

WHAT COULD BE DONE BETTER?

If you are the kind of guy that just wants someone to lay out a program for you: that’s not this book. It takes a LOT of reading to even get to the program in the first place, and once you get there, it’s in a narrative style, rather than a prescriptive style. I, personally, PREFER that manner of delivery, and, in turn, enjoyed the hell out of this book, but I know that some folks are going to get chapped about this.
I’ve heard Dan speaking about this book a bunch on his podcast, and he actually almost quoted whole sections of it in answering some questions (which is awesome, because it’s like you have a printed copy of his podcast), but despite all the time and effort reading, reviewing and editing, there’s still a few typos and sentences that start and end the same (something like “lifting weights is one of the greatest ways to achieve physical transformation is lifting weights”). Given my blog (and most likely this very review) is full of these issues, I’m not one to judge, but those paying for a product might be put off by it.
Some of the sections in the book are just blatant reprints of articles previously written by Dan. They’re still incredibly on topic and value added in the book, but if you’ve already read them before, it can feel like you got stiffed out of content. But, of course, that’s a GOOD thing as well: the fact I was upset there wasn’t even MORE content there means I enjoyed the hell out of it. I’ve read my fair share of books that I wished would just be over.
The only thing keeping this from being a for real “all in one” manual is a lack of actual instruction on how to perform the movements in the program. Mass Made Simple contained that, which I felt was pretty awesome. In addition, I WISH Dan had released this book in 2020, for his sake and the sake of the world, because he would have made a killing giving people full on programs they could run with just some kettlebells or a barbell, and we all would have gotten a lot more jacked if we had this resource.

WHAT ABOUT MASS MADE SIMPLE?

That’s the most immediate question: why would I read and follow THIS Dan John bodybuilding book and not his other one? This is just plain different from MMS, and that’s not a bad thing. MMS is another fantastic book also full of Dan John wisdom on the subject of building mass, but his audience there is less “real people” and more “real athletes”. To run that program, you have to be ready to really do some suffering and put in the work in the gym and at the table. * * You also have to be willing to set aside 6-7 weeks of your life to really dedicate yourself to the effort. In turn, I honestly like the idea of new trainees taking on MMS, because it’s a very solid gut check, recalibrates expectations of the self, and Dan does a great job walking the trainee through the entire program, to include instruction on the movements themselves.
The Armor Building Formula seems far more sustainable than MMS. Dan recommends MMS be run, at most, 2x a year, whereas the ABF definitely has legs to go on for long stretches. ABF is more akin to a baseline 5/3/1 program, while MMS is more like Super Squats, if I were to employ analogy.

SHOULD YOU GET IT?

Absolutely, 100%. No matter your goals or your equipment, you are sure to get something out of this book.

2024.05.21 18:22 Barnshart3 Classic Vibe Jag neck pocket looks crooked

I just got this Classic Vibe Jaguar used yesterday. I took it home and right off the bat the setup on it was pretty bad. It needed a shim to pitch back the neck to get proper action & break angle on the bridge.
I noticed that the neck was sitting crooked inside the pocket before I removed it to add the shim. The pictures I've posted are how it is currently sitting in the pocket after I added my shim, but I assure you it basically looked the exact same way prior.
My question is this; should I be concerned? Overall after the setup I gave it, it seems to be playing just fine. The action is 1.5mm on the low E at the 12th fret and 1.25mm on the high E. Neck is basically dead straight and there aren't any dead notes.
It seems to play just fine, outside of maybe needing a thicker string gauge for my own personal taste.
So... should I try and fix this? If so, how would I go about it? Is it even worth the hassle if it is playing fine already? I'm sure it would sustain and resonate better with more contact on the neck, but honestly it seems alright thus far.
Any thoughts / fixes are welcomed!

2024.05.21 18:22 stargazer1996 Feeling defeated and so tired of being sick at the end of month 3 on Skyrizi.

My moderate Crohn's Disease was managed well by Humira for 10+ years. I had to bump up to a shot every week about year 6.
I moved to Alabama in 2022 (mistake #1) and I'm guessing the heat, stress, and 4 months of sinus infections (yay new allergies) triggered a flare last summer. On top of flaring, new job meant new insurance. I had to fight to get my Humira covered and I think I spent well over 20 hours and at least twice as many phone calls fighting with AbbVie, BCBS, and my pharmacy before finally coming to a long-term agreement. After a 6 weeks of Budesonide, I was feeling better and the Humira was still seeming to keep me stable. I was happy that I was able to enjoy the fall.
Then came time for next years' prior authorizations. Blue Cross Blue Shield (fuck you BCBS) denied my prior auth for my Humira even after several appeals because weekly was "over the FDA approved amount" (not uncommon for biologics) and I needed to "prove that I needed it" before they would cover it. I asked what that would mean and BCBS told me I needed to get worse or try another medication (which we know you can't go off and back on most biologics successfully) before they would consider approving it.
So, I went down to Humira every 10 days and added a chemotherapy drug Azathioprine. Wow my Crohn's and immune system hated that. The holidays were awful, I think I was sick every week between Thanksgiving and the New Year, and then several in January and February.
Cue the switch to Skyrizi, the first up on the list since most people switching from Humira have a good success rate. I was devastated to find out that even with how bad I already felt, it would take another 3 months before the medication might start working.
I tried to push through, but during month 2, I finally broke down and asked to go on a short Budesonide taper because I had gotten to the point where I couldn't eat without throwing up and getting through an 8 hour workday (with a nap for lunch) was exhausting. After over a year of fighting, I am back to where I started.
I'm starting month 4 with my first maintenance dose next week. I'm at least feeling stable right now having just finished the Budesonide, but went in to get labs yesterday and... well... my white blood cells and other inflammation markers have skyrocketed past even my labs from last summer's flare.
I just feel so defeated. I'm tired of my body not working with me and having to fight our god forsaken healthcare system to even have a chance. I'm tired of having to play the game of capitalism while giving up everything outside of those 8 hours just to pay for insurance and medication that doesn't work. I also feel bad for being negative because I know that can also impact how well medication works, but wow is it hard to be optimistic right now.

Hi I wasn't quite sure who to speak to about this so I decided to use a burner account.
So I 18F have known this guy, 18M (let's call him Connor) since we were kids. Like we have known each other since birth. Now Connor and I live about an hour away from each other and our families used to meet up a bit when we were younger. However, about 5 years ago or so our mums fell out and so we didn't see each other for 5 years. Yet a few months ago, my grandma died and as Connor's mum and my grandma were quite close. We actualy ended up meeting up because we went to visit my grandpa on the same day thatConnor went to the same area to see a play (of a GCSE text that he studies). When our families met up I was actualy taken by surprise, I remembered Connor a bit form when I was younger but of course he was all grown up now and so different than my memory. Not that I'd admit it in my teenage embarrassment but I found Connor really quite cute and after dinner, we went on a small walk round the village to just talk because we were around the same age and our parents went off to get ice cream. We talked about our schools (him going to an all boys school and ke just a public one) and how different they were. I really enjoyed talking to Connor and so when he asked if I had snapchat I of course said yes. Before this I didn't use it like at all. I didn't have any snapstreaks and only had it installed. But after this we kept on talking every day and it was really quite nice to have a friends a friends I spoke to every day.
However at some point my friend, Braleigh (17F but 18 in 2 days) found out about Connors existence because I think my friends spoke about him because ethey kept on teasing him about me (they asked what I did at the weekend and when I said I met a family friend they all made innuendos). Now Braleigh and I hadn't been friends very long but she enjoyed teasing me about Connor but after begging for weeks, I finally showed a photo of him to her and her friends (My first mistake). She said he was ugly and I couldn't really defend him because at this point I hadn't even accepted the crush myself. So time progressed and at some point around Christmas, Connor asked me to give her snaochat to me because he enjoyed teasing her when on my phone. I didn't want to but he said something like "come on don't be boring" and I stupidly accepted.
Now one thing you need to know about Braleigh is she is very good at trying to message guys. No offence to her but she isn't the most attractive but she gives attention to many guys (even in lower years) and is very well experienced. Up until this point she had been in a relationship for about a month with her first boyfriend (now ex) in the year above.
Now I wa strally worried when driving home and when he began to give slower response times than usual I began to get really worried that he was messaging her back and not me (ehich he's fine to fo its his life) but I was in denial about my feelings at this point. Now my family ended up visiting his a few weeks later just after Christmas and ge said he blocked her and we even got into an argument about him not long before. She aid I was acting "stroppy" and ignoring her (she was talking about a time I felt really sick and wanst speaking to anyone just sat with my head in my hands). She said "fine I'll block him" and I thought that was that. She playfully joked about sharing his snapchat to the people in my school because they were all interested about this "Mystery Connor, [my] boyfriend." No matter how often I told them we weren't dating, they didn't drop it (mainly because I'm not really attractive and am not really expected to find love)
Time skip to a few weeks ago. Braleigh and I fell out because some of her friends were gossiping about her behind her back. One of her friends said that it was awkward in lesson when I gave her ex-boyfriemd (This is Braighleigh's second and they had been going out for a month and a half give or take). I said yeah but wanted wanted to drop it because she'd already said the same thing in the lesson and I didn't think it wa say of our business. Now some people started calling her a slag and I think unintentionally U said something that supported that (which I would never want it to be my intention) but two days later she ended up sending me loads of accusatory texts. Now I said to her that I didn't say anything like that and it's mone of my business about her relationships. But a day later she said "why did you lie" and I just didn't want want get involved and said well I'm confused now but I'm sorry. I don't think it's best if we hang out for a bit etc. (Which is fine because she isn't even in my main group of friends she was just a good friend I had outside of that). She said good and a thought that was it. However, the next day at school, she started standing really close to me and my friends where we were stood, talking (like half a meter, it was concerning) and I could see her constantly turning to look at me in teh corner of my eye. I just ignored ignored because I'm sure it would blow over. Yet next week, a friend if mine said oh at Braighlrigh was gossiping about you behind your back. And I said well that's annoying yet she's being hippocritcial is that's what she claimed I did but oh well, it didn't affect me directly, she can do what she wants. I continued to ignore her because eif she wanted to talk then she can approach me but U have other, better friends so uts fine. I haven't spoken about her once (not yo her friends or anyone else) and it really was a thing of out of sight, out of mind situation.
Cut to today where Connor snaps me saying, somethings happening. I said in what way? He said Braghleigh added me... I said OK... and he said that she told him all of what happened and he wasn't picking sides yet. Which kind of annoyed me because me falling out with Braigheigh has nothing to do with him and now she's dragging in out. So I told him, you're great but it has nothing to to with you. And he agreed. But I can't say that I went into a shop with my family and just started stressing (to the point where tears started started fall unwillingly). And I began to feel sick. This only happened once before when Braighleigh said Connor looked fit in a photo and whilst I felt sick for the rest of the day I also pushed it to the back of my mind because she was in a relationship.
Now I know that I can't control either of their actions, they're both poeple in their own right because U really know what I want to do. I want to move on from this guy that I'm left crying over but can't seem to do it. Like I don't know what to do and haven't even been in a situation where I've liked a guy like this or this much. It genuinely make some feel ill and don't know what to do. Could someone give advice. Please and thank you :)

2024.05.21 18:22 xXEvanatorXx Default Gateway on router changed on it's own?

This morning we noticed a lot of our wireless devices were having issues and I noted they were only the devices on my 2.4 ghz network. Kids tablets kept trying to connect to the network and it kept trying and coming back with network disabled. The devices on my 5g ghz work normal.
So I figure I should just give it a good old reboot. It's been a little while since I have had to do that. In the past I have seen odd behavior where my Router would seemingly stop handing out IP's and you have to reboot for it to let new devices connect. But that has not been an issue for a while since Updated the firmware maybe a year or more back.
So I reboot and come back but things don't seem to be fully working still. I attempt to login to my router via trusty ol (192.168.1.1) and I get nothing. this puzzles me for a time and I eventually do an CMD/IPConfig and discover my default gateway is now 192.168.50.1. Never seen that before. So I connect up to the router and check a few things, nothing seems out of place setting-wise. Eventually all the other devices start coming online.
But I am left wondering why my Default gateway changed. It may have happened a month or more ago and I just did not notice. I looked at my System logs And on May 4th there was a lot of activity which I do not think was me, but I also don't know if it's just something routers do on thier own Example:

2024.05.21 18:22 Battle_Rattle It’s 2024, Ultralight AND Comfortable is Attainable. My Gear Video

The mods are letting me do a little self-promotion of my yearly gear video, probably because I haven’t asked in 3 years. :) Thanks Mods.
Here it is. Some background though…
In 2012 I made my Reddit login and not long after I was in ultralight, a tiny sub (~ 7,500 members) with some seriously weird people. Mountain Laurel Designs and GoLite seemed like Gods of UL gear, we watched every Chad Poindexter video and Andrew Skurkas spreadsheets were handed around like proof of alien contact. ultralight had a lot of different people. Some were looking to go SUL (under 5 lbs,) some people wanted to get under 10lbs, and a handful came by to tell us we were all going to die in the woods or our setups were ridiculously uncomfortable.
In 2016 I thought I had some things figured out, so I made a “What’s in My Pack” video focused on being deeply ultralight but still comfortable and safe. That was my thing, always trying to push comfort up, but pack weight down. It wasn’t easy to do then, but 8 years on I’m doing much better. We're all doing better.
This sub has grown roughly 14,811% since my first post. While the sub is largely what it was in 2012, there are people here, actively participating, still in that “die in the woods/it’s not comfortable” class. They’re here looking for individual gear ideas, but holding onto inflated baseweights, and seemingly unable to understand how good we have it now. From DCF, better down fill, 0.3mil titanium, 300% more cottage companies, to mainstream gear companies making actually UL things - the availability of ultralight gear that still retains function, durably, is way better. It’s not 2012 anymore, and you may not know it.
So, my 2024 gear video is for all those “you’re gonna die” types. Remember, if you don’t agree with a choice, you still have 2.5lbs/1.3kg to fix it before you break 10lbs. Incidentally, I do think ultralight is just a number – 10lbs/4.5kg.
Please give the video a watch and then tell me what you would improve. Since 2012, I’ve been stealing ideas from people just like you.

1) I didn’t know GearSkeptic had debunked the mold in a sleeping pad thing. My bad. I’d still like to know why those dark spots corresponded to baffle welding failure in two pads of mine.
2) Some of you are saying the Outdoor Vital sun hoody is better, but they don’t list UPF and they have an abrasion warning. Sounds kinda bad, yeh?
3) Some people are mad I’m still using gear that has been discontinued. In general, be suspicious of any YouTuber whose links are all fresh affiliate links. They’re there for the money. Also, it proves alot of UL gear lasts years. Again, people love to say UL gear doesn’t last.
4) In 2024 if you bought all this gear at once it would be a lot of money. I added it all up in 2021 and it was only $300-$400 more that the average PCT Thru Hiker Gear cost according to HalfwayAnywheres survey. I'm ok with that.

I (F24) just caught my significant other (M26) lying about deleting his photos with his ex-girlfriend. When we were strictly friends, we used to get along about missing memories with our exes. Remembering that, as soon as we got together, I asked for him to delete the photos he would always look back on because I didn’t want to be in a relationship with somebody who would constantly look back at his previous relationship. My boyfriend agreed and told me that it was a two-way street, and that I should be deleting the photos of my ex as well— to which I agreed and erased.
Many months later, I ask him again about if he deleted the photos and he reassures me that he did, and that he has no reason to hold onto them. Fast forward to now, I found out that he was lying to me this whole time and never did anything on his end to actually get rid of the photos. I questioned why he lied to me numerous times for as long as he did, and he would not stop saying "I don't know why I did." I explicitly told him that he must not be over her if he felt happier to lie to me just to protect his photos of his ex, and he claimed that the photos meant nothing to him and that he wants to be with me lol. Then why did he lie? "I don't know." He tries to apologize profusely and I tell him that he's quite literally only apologizing because I caught him, and that he would have never been sorry for this if I didn't call him out on it. No response.
He's claiming that he wants to make the relationship work, and that he would work on communicating and being honest and upfront. The thing is, I thought the relationship prior to this situation was fucking amazing and communicative and honest. To find out he was happily lying to me this whole time has completely rewritten my view of this relationship and I don't know what to consider as honest anymore. It was not just holding the photos of his ex— it's how he lied to me about getting rid of all of it. Something so small, he stretched out for so long. I want to work through this as he's been the most amazing partner I've been with outside of this aspect.
To those in relationships that are lasting after being lied to by your SO, how did you rebuild your trust? What did your partner do to be able to regain your trust?
TLDR; Boyfriend lied to me about deleting photos of his ex-girlfriend after we mutually agreed upon deleting photos of our exes while entering the relationship. Need help on figuring out how to regain trust.

2024.05.21 18:19 cdoghusk1 Star Waracles now updated with 40 Star Wars species-specific rules and a Force Die Ora

Several months ago I created the Star Waracles and put them up free on itch.io. Now I've added species-specific starting rules. I did this for a couple reasons.
1) Obviously, Star Wars has thousands of intelligent species to play as, so playing them using Starforged sometimes seemed...a little funny to me. I mean, Wookiees have a great many physical and mental differences than Cereans. Same with Twi'leks, Zabraks, et cetera. So, I thought you should start with little bonuses for selecting a certain species.
2) Whenever I played co-op, the players inevitably asked, "Do I not get something special for being a certain race?" And they seemed a little disappointed that there wasn't a way to approach this. So I worked on this, deciding to add it to my already extant Star Waracles.
3) It was really fun.
For those who don't know what the Star Waracles are, it's about what it sounds like. Free oracles for rolling to find out what sort of SW-specific ship you come across, who it's likely to be affiliated with, how to roll up some SW-specific planets or create new species, et cetera.
Also, I created a Force Die Oracle, which works similarly to the new Cursed Die in Sundered Isles.

Okay so I just took a wee look at the Abyssal Dwarf list for funsies and their formation looks SO MUCH FUN!
Also I've always been a bit of a sucker for boar rider regiments. They've never been as good in any game ever as they should be. Would this be it?
Too bad there's not too much Slave synergy in the AD list. It's Brutal from Hellfane, yes, but if we take the formation, the Hellfane's Rallying doesn't stack with Bloodspike's. With a couple of slave orc regiments though...?
How are we feeling about a slave orc themed Abyssal Dwarf list? Or should people just go straight to Riftforged.

Something that annoyed me since discovering that the game has cheese, was that even it has cheese, it only has Cheddar and Blue cheese.
Since discovery it didn't stop to annoy me. everytime i would make a cheese, deep in my mind my last few braincells wanted to have more...
I tried to make the idea public once but i had no concept of how anything would work. So here is my try:

Cheese Types

First of we need cheese types. To get the best out of variety, i would split all kinds of milk (based on the wish to introduce cows) into milk from cows, sheep and goats.
The various types of cheese could then be created:
Cheddar-, Gouda-, Mozzarella-, Parmesan-, Swiss-, Brie-, Blue-, Feta-, Camembert-, Chèvre-, Ricotta-, Herbal-, Cave-, Mountain-, Lowlands- and Edam cheese.
Those are more than enough but i think it would just be so more fun to discover the making of different cheese... instead of cheddar filled cellars.

Cheese making

Some small additions would need to be made. The 1. One would be (including the different milk types: Cow, Sheep, Goat) to have a basic crafting of cheese:
Every "Milk (type)" could be mixed with pickled vegetables to create "Curdled milk (type)". By adding salt to it you create "Cottage cheese (type)", the basic component in cheese making.
To get variety, each cheese has a small difference in the crafting process:
Cheddar Cottage cheese (cow) is pressed in a linen bundle and salted. Then stored on a shelf. Gouda Cottage cheese (cow) is pressed and soaked in brine for some time. Then stored on a shelf. Mozzarella Cottage cheese (cow) is boiled in a cooking pot. The stored in a crocpot filled with water on a shelf. Parmesan Cottage cheese (cow) is salted then pressed and salted again. Then stored on a shelf. Swiss Cottage cheese (cow) is pressed + salted and soaked in brine for some time. Then stored on a shelf. Blue cheese Cottage cheese (cow) is pressed + salted. Then stored in a dark and partly open cellar on a shelf. Brie Cottage cheese (sheep) is drained. Then stored in linen/paper on a shelf. Feta Cottage cheese (sheep) is pressed and soaked in brine. Then stored in a brine filled crocpot on a shelf. Camembert Cottage cheese (sheep) is salted + formed by hand on a linen cloth. Then stored in linen/paper on a shelf. Cave Cottage cheese (sheep) is pressed + salted. Then stored in a dark and partly open cellar on a shelf. Edam Cottage cheese (sheep) is pressed + salted. Then stored on a shelf. Chèvre Cottage cheese (goat) is pressed. Then stored in a sealed croc pot on a shelf. Ricotta Cottage cheese (goat) is boiled in a cooking pot. Then stored in a sealed crocpot on a shelf. Herbal Cottage cheese (goat) is mixed with herbs and pressed + salted. Then stored in a sealed crocpot on a shelf. Mountain Cottage cheese (goat) is pressed and soaked in brine for some time. Then stored on a shelf. Lowlands Cottage cheese (goat) is pressed + salted. Then stored in a sealed crocpot on a shelf.
A croc pot can hold 4 cheese. And one cheese is the same as 1 quarter of a wheel cheese.

Aging

The cheese all have aging stages. A stage determines the shelf life and nutrition they give: Fresh cheese - a cheese is at this stage, directly after you made it. Cheese - a cheese is at this stage after it riped for the first time. Aged cheese - a cheese is at that stage after it riped for the 2nd time which takes a while. Well-Aged cheese - after it riped for the 3st time it will be this stage. Noble cheese - this is it's final stage, which occurs after it riped for the 4th time.
All cheese types which are stored in crocpots or in linen/paper can't ripe. And additionally, all cheese capable of riping beyond the state "cheese", can be waxed to lenghten the shelflife.
The aging stage determines the nutrition and shelf life the cheese gives. A cheddar for example takes 14 to 20 days to go from "fresh cheddar" to "cheddar". Fresh cheese have only a small amount of shelflife. Each cheese takes different amount of time to go trough each stage, and the higher the stage, the longer it takes to age. The amount of time it takes to ripe and the nutrition it gives as also the shelf life are balanced so that for example a ricotta (which has only the stage fresh cheese and cheese) takes 5-7 days to age one stage up while a parmesan takes 30-40 to age from fresh parmesan to parmesan and a cheddar only 14 to 20 days. Additionally, the higher the aging, the more nutrition the cheese gives and the longer it lasts. Some cheese may even give a small amount of hp when in the stage well-aged and noble.
While parmesan has 400 hungerpoints per piece (each wheel-cheese has 4) when in noble stage, it takes significantly more time to age than other cheese. While cheese like ricotta only take 5-7 days to get a little nutrition boost but have a shorter shelflife.

I honestly am not sure what people expected from these new headphones. Aside from the obvious problems with the app, just going by the headphones themselves they seem great. I too am disappointed we won’t get WiFi music streaming directly to the headphones but we were also expecting a feature like that on headphones that are $100 less than the AirPods Max when they came out. Without a proper review, on the surface these headphones best the AirPods Max in a number of categories.

30 hours of battery life vs 20
Actually has a on/off switch.
Has a proper carrying case.
Lossless audio for android users.
3min charge gives you 3hrs of playback as opposed to 5min charge giving you 1.5hrs of playback on AirPods Max
Arc tv sound hand off (with support for beam and ray coming later) now I use my AirPods Max with Apple TV, and it works great but with the Sonos Ace, ANYTHING outputting to the soundbar can be listened to on the headphones, including blu ray players, cable tv boxes, gaming consoles, streaming devices, built in tv apps, and external videos or music on a usb connected to your tv. Some people in the Sonos ecosystem might have a Sonos Beam or Ray if they care about sound quality in their bedroom or kids rooms but not everyone will have an Apple TV in each room, there are people that might spend more money to get better sound quality from their tv but are perfectly happy just using their TV’s built in apps or cheap streaming sticks. I have an older tv from 2019 in my bedroom that doesn’t have Bluetooth and I don’t need an Apple TV in that room but I do have a beam gen 2 which will let me watch movies with the Ace in the future.
This one is subject to personal taste but imo the Sonos Ace look much better than the AirPods Max, especially in white. I never got the white AirPods Max because I didn’t know how the white cloth material would stand up to years of use.
You will be able to adjust the treble and bass in the app for the Ace. Other headphones give you more control but you have more options for eq when just comparing to the AirPods Max.

The Verge posted an article today with initial impressions on sound quality and mentioned they sound “damn good” with noise cancellation sounding “eerie” as well as saying noise transparency was “just as reliable” so far they seem like they will stand up to other premium headphones in these categories with the added benefit of TV sound hand off. I don’t understand people saying they don’t know why Sonos is going into the headphone space if they are not bringing anything new, Sennheiser, Sony, and Bose all seem very similar with some features being better or worse than the others and yet they keep releasing newer versions with minor to moderate changes but nothing revolutionary.

I've been dealing with pimples appearing on my arms for a few months now. I've tried to get rid of it but it comes back and leaves marks.
They are painful and inflamed with a white thing at the middle top part of it. They get itchy but I don't scratch it and all.
Is there any advice on what products I could use or how to deal with pustules? I live in South Asia area so it is quite humid and hot here, making me sweat often.

I’m playing New Vegas again hot off of watching the Fallout show like a lot of people. When the game originally came out I honestly think a lot of the nuance and depth went over my head but one thing that never changes (besides war of course) is how unjustifiable Caesar’s Legion is.
Now I have not played any mods that add more Legion content, so I don’t know what angle they might’ve taken to flesh them out a bit more, but I do remember the Obsidian dev team having to cut some legion content that, as they say, would have painted them more grey.
I’m curious what you all think they might have added or what you might even add to try and make the Legion seem even remotely appealing.
I get they have security, resources, strength, and are tough on crime so to speak…
But if you couldn’t remove anything about the Legion, what would you add to try and even slightly justify the way they operate?

This is my boy Opal, he’s 8 months old. (Little backstory) I first got him at 5weeks old and he was locked up in cage all day at my dads house while I was in college, I dropped out and moved out with him to my sisters house in December. He’s been here since then and there are 2 other male cats here, 1 of them is neutered and opal and the other cat is not.
We have always used the same litter and Opal will poop in the box and pee sometimes, but other times he will just pee on everything else, my sister no longer allows me to let him downstairs bc he has peed on and under the couch numerous times, he’s peed on her unborn babies changing table, and on blankets, clothes etc. He has his own litter box in my room and that really helped for a while, but here and there he will now pee on my bed and I don’t understand why. My vet told me it’s just stress related from moving but we have been here together for about 6 months.
I’ve cleaned my mattress before to try and break down the enzymes and what not and he still pees in the same spot, I’m currently trying a spray bottle to spray him with when he’s bad but idk how well it’s even going to work. I’m not really sure what to do, I love him so much and do not want to get rid or rehome him I just really want him to stop peeing on everything.

I took my first official GMAT last Wednesday (so no score improvement) and managed to get a perfect score. Also, I've been studying for the GMAT since July of last year, and it's taken up a lot of my free time and energy, which I suddenly have available again, so I might as well lay out my experience in case it's helpful for anyone else.
I pretty exclusively used Target Test Prep, aside from the question review mentioned above. I started mid-July. I didn't really know how long I would need to prepare, as I work a lot and I have limited free time. As any good citizen of the internet does when searching for product reviews, I went to Reddit to find what programs people recommended, and TTP came up a lot. Positive (and less positive) reviews mostly talked about how thorough TTP's program is. I'm anxious and I like to overprepare for things, so that sounded great to me. I had a vague notion of preparing for a couple of months left over from my erstwhile undergrad days. That's clearly not what happened. I ended up spending about 9 months prepping, and I logged about 500 official prep hours.
Here's what I liked about TTP: 1. It is crazy thorough - Every chapter has review tests in three difficulty levels, and many have multiple review tests in each level. 2. Difficulty - There were lots of very challenging questions. I often felt I understood concepts well, but when asked to apply them to harder questions, it was a whole other deal. This was one of the most helpful things for my prep. A lot of the concepts that I was tested over aren't necessarily difficult, but seeing how to get from the question to the answer (in the allotted time) will absolutely make or break the experience. 3. The lesson structure- This turned out to be a much bigger plus than I expected. If I had a minute while waiting at the doctor's office, or in between customers, or before my partner got home, I could tackle a lesson or two. They're broken down, bite-sized concepts, followed by specific questions to apply the concepts. Being able to make a little progress when I had time, instead of having to carve out whole blocks of time every day, fit into the life I live a lot better. 4. I liked their vibe- This will be personal preference to a degree, but I liked the TTP team's overall vibe. They give off the impression that they know what they're doing and they want to be doing it. I just wanted a slightly dry, no nonsense, coven of math wizards to run me back through a review course of most of high school, and these people answered the call. Even when I had questions that weren't about the course exactly (applying for accommodation), it was TTP's Scott (on Reddit) that answered those questions as well. I appreciate dealing with people who are dedicated to their craft. A note on my accommodation, and a quick note about the TTP study plan layout (which I recommend following): TTP recommends not stressing early on about the time that you take to answer questions, but instead focusing on building a strong foundation of the knowledge and knowing that you'll get faster with practice. That was true. At the end of the study plan, they have you take the 6 official GMAT tests that are available to purchase on MBA.com, and I took one per weekend for 6 weeks. TTP's website is nice, well laid out, decent on mobile, overall pretty user friendly. The GMAT Focus is very Windows 95. It's not nearly as user-friendly. It also does this fun thing where, after every question, it pops up a box that makes you confirm that you are ready to submit your answer and move to the next question. The TTP tests aren't clunky in that way, and the first time I took a practice test, it threw me all the way off. I wasn't doing super bad on my time up until that point, but the extra seconds dealing with that popup every time takes, and the way it felt generally disruptive to me added a lot of stress. I ended up applying for an accommodation for time and a half pretty quickly after my first practice test, because it's recommended that you give the GMAC 30ish days to get a decision back to you, and you can't schedule your test until you're approved for the accommodation or it doesn't count. I got my decision back in like 5 days, so I was lucky. I pushed my time and a half to the limit on quant in every. single. practice exam. In the actual exam, I ended up having about 2 minutes left on DI, 5 minutes left on Verbal, and like 15+ minutes left on Quant. My actual test score was higher than any practice test and less stressful than any practice test (even though the kid in the testing cubical next to mine sounded like they were coming down with consumption, and I would recommend earplugs).
TTP does mention to take care of yourself while you're studying, get enough sleep, get enough exercise, anything that makes you feel your best. They especially recommend to take it easy the last week before the test, eat a good breakfast the morning of, get there early. I made myself do 10 minute meditations before bed every night for the last two weeks before my exam, because even though they can be frustrating in the moment, they do force me to calm down. The day of, I woke up 15 minutes earlier than I usually do so I would have time to do a bit of yoga and a quick meditation before I went to the test center, and I do think that helped. Also, some of it was luck, because there were almost zero questions that covered the topics I have the most trouble with, and even with infinity preparation, the topics covered are still incredibly broad and some will be easier for you than others. I have been mixing up my loadouts these days to spice things up. Recently I have been having a bit of a love affair with the arc thrower. To preface - I only play helldive difficulty these days and all this feedback is based on helldive.
I will say I have had a lot of fun running arc thrower, but I will also admit it has a lot of flaws, perhaps too many, and could use a little love. It really doesn’t need anything too major, but I will discuss my thoughts and experience here. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
The PROS ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Great for crowd control if you can gain some space. 20-30 meters is ideal as the max range is now about 30 meters. With the ship upgrade you can chain to 3 targets if they are lined up or bunched up.
The stagger effect (this is the only thing that makes this weapon viable, imo). You can push back hordes of brood commanders and even bile spewers and (slowly) shock them to death
Infinite ammo, which funny enough is probably the weakest “strength” of this weapon because it has to be balanced around it, while other support weapons essentially have infinite ammo with the ship full resupply upgrade. I never run out of AC ammo because 1 supply pack refills to full, and you can just call another backpack down once the cooldown is up.
No backpack, but you really need to run one to make this thing viable on higher levels. I will discuss backpacks more later.

The CONS ⛈️⛈️⛈️

Must be careful around teammates. For the most success you just have to hope your teammates understand the cone radius and to let you handle things without running into your lightning. Not a huge ask, but a lot of folks are operating with 2 brain cells and love to get in the way of you and your targets. I have been in many situations where I can’t use the weapon because people are too close. Pro tip - always stand BEHIND the arc thrower guy and there is a 0% chance it will kill you.
It takes forever to kill Hulks/Chargers without help. Chargers take about 5-6 headshots (yes, headshots) based on my tests. If you aren’t hitting the head every time it can take 7-8 shots sometimes. Hulks die a bit faster, but headshotting them somehow became really inconsistent after the last arc thrower change. You also can no longer stun hulks :(
Although it can handle both heavy units by itself, it can be very time consuming, and during that time your team is moving on, and other enemies are approaching. Fighting a charger alone is free, but fighting one with a bunch of bugs jumping on you is quite the struggle with arc thrower. If you aren’t careful you will find yourself in giant fights that you probably shouldn’t be in.
Misfires - these seem to happen usually when there isn’t a clear path to a target, but I’ve also had it happen when I’m in prime position to blast a spawn. A misfire messes up the cadence of stuns and cripples the weapon badly. It feels really fucking bad to be crowd controlling a bunch of guys only for the gun to triple misfire and suddenly you are swarmed and dead. This needs to be fixed ASAP and the gun would feel wayyy better.
Basically useless against elites. This is fine on paper, as a weapon that excels in chaf clear shouldn’t excel and killing elites, but it would be nice if they could feasibly down one without dancing around for 5 mins. It can strip the armor off a bile titan which is kinda neat.
Terrible at point blank range. If little bugs get too close you MUST swap to another weapon to deal with them. Arc thrower will just stop working and you will eat tons of damage if you don’t clear them out with something else.

How I would buff it:

consistently stagger hulks again please. Arc thrower is already not great for bots, but now it has almost no appeal without being able to stun hulks. That was an interesting niche it filled that has been removed.
either increase fire rate or damage to make the heavy killing experience a bit faster than paint drying. Yes, it has infinite ammo, but that should be more of a unique feature rather than a reason to keep its power so low. Other support weapons really have no ammo issues nowadays, and are essentially infinite ammo. Also Quasar exists…so theres that.

General arc thrower tips!

Use a backpack! It helps a lot! My favorite is shield pack so you can shrug off encroaching enemies and be able to dip in and out of the fray easier. Dog laser is good too to kill chaf that gets too close as well as shoot behind you as run. Jetpack I haven’t used with this, but it can be very strong and allow you to get high ground and escape bad situations.
Swap to a shotgun or close range weapon for enemies that get too close. Arc thrower doesn’t work well at point blank range, so always be ready to whip out a shotgun when the little bugs get too close. I use the incendiary breaker (so original) but it works great in tandem.
Be careful when teammates are close. If you charged a shot already you can aim up and fire into space to expend a charge if needed.
Stun grenades can help you gain some distance and free shots on bigger targets.
Be sure to run elite killing stratagems like 500kg, orbital railcannon, orbital laser, 380 barrage, etc. You don’t need much chaf clear as the arc thrower will be your main source of chaf clear anyways.
Run into the fray! But also be ready to run away when things get too hairy. Remember you always want to be about 20-30 meters away.
Aim for headshots! Things will die a lot faster if you hit criticals with arc thrower. Aim high as it trends downward.

One third announcement, one third update, and one third venting. That should about sum it up lol.
Recently, we’ve gotten a ton of people coming here to post their own unrelated artwork. Their own drawings that don’t have anything to do with Tumblr or even other social media. This has always been an issue, but the sub has been growing fast, so I’ve seen a sizeable increase in those posts lately from people who obviously haven’t read the rules. Or the sub description. Or even looked at the other posts on this sub.
I’ve been handing out ten day bans to people who post their own artwork (ie not art added to tumblr posts, just standalone unrelated art). People throw a tantrum and say that it’s not fair because “nobody reads the rules on Reddit.” Uh huh. I’ve had a 12yo call me a cunt for temporarily banning them. Not too long ago, a 15yo got mad about it, and when I told them to look at the other posts on this sub, they said “my drawings are better than all those stupid shit scribbles, you power-driven narc.” Which, I mean, I don’t generally like to shit on people’s art, but their art was most certainly not comparable to the stuff on this sub. And I’m just telling y’all about these things so we can ALL get a kick out of it lmao.
I work full time, and sometimes I can’t get to things right away. I also have Chronic Migraines and other health issues, so some days I can’t even look at a screen. But I remove stuff as soon as I can. Reddit introduced a new “automation”feature to help mods curate the content in their subs. It’s pretty basic. Bare-bones type of stuff. But I set up a couple automations yesterday. This includes displaying a reminder message when certain keywords or phrases are typed, and it automatically filters out those posts for manual review if someone submits a post like that despite the reminder. I also blocked posts containing slurs and bigoted terms. This feature doesn’t allow me to filter comments yet, but maybe they’ll add that soon. I’ve been looking into using the automod, but it looks like I’ll have to get on my desktop to request and program it. I want to implement a minimum karma requirement to limit the number of people who create Reddit accounts and then immediately spam their drawings on any half-related sub they can find. There’s no option to set that limit on mobile that I can find, so I’ll have to do that on my desktop as well.
Bear with me (notice how I didn’t say ‘man with me’ 😉) while I navigate this. The automations are a new feature, and it’s not perfect. But it’s something that I think can help cut down on the amount of unrelated posts here. If there’s a bug in it that you notice when you try to post something, please write in to modmail about it so I can check it out and adjust it as needed.

iOS 16 and previous let you disable #images in the iMessage app and you could prevent redownload with screen time. That feature was removed in following updates. Can’t remove. Can’t disable. Can’t even take it out of the sidebar in iMessage. The history can be deleted and it only tracks the most 3 recent searches anyway.
Anyone know any possible way to deal with this? It’s a work iPhone so I can’t get rid of it, can’t put the canopy filter on it which we use for our personal tech because MDM restrictions. Can’t use screen time to limit his iMessage to 1 minute a day because it’s his work phone and he needs to text customers. He of course says he will stop using #images completely and just won’t communicate with gifs going forward. Obviously I have no way to monitor this aside from seeing if the “recently used” gifs change.
Sigh.
P.S. he is doing a lot for recovery. CSAT weekly, 2 SA meetings weekly, 1 pure desire meeting weekly, Bible study, PBSE podcasts, sponsor, just presented step 4 to his sponsor, etc. He’s been accountable to his groups but recently hid his use of #images on his work phone for the last 2 weeks from me. No M/O, which is how he kept up the facade of calling himself “sober” (by SA anon definition). I don’t consider it sober, but apparently my opinion doesn’t define his sobriety 🙃 He did try to turn his chips in, but SA gave them back to him and told him to think about it for a week. I’ve laid a hard boundary that if he doesn’t move his definition of sobriety to include intentionally searching content to list over that I will no longer work on our marriage. Current consequence for this recent event: sleeping separately, no physical intimacy.
