2024.05.22 03:57 Annual-Ad-416 How do you build effective communication with your team?

I recently made a post about project managing tips, and the most repeated tip was communication with the client and with the team, creating an open understanding of both areas. Also, allowing the team to feel comfortable expressing their shortcomings or blocking.
How do you build a HEALTHY communicative environment if you're managing a project?

2024.05.22 03:56 Khaikaa I discovered this gem 3 days ago and I'm already adicted

I can't believe this gem flew under my radar until a few days ago, it has most things I like on a game. My first character is a druid(currently lvl 23) and I'm having so much fun playing with people.
I feel like there is the perfect amount of players to be a very pleasant experience, you always see someone here and there but not too many people making a caos in the map or killing all the npcs. Also, players are very friendly, I usually sneak inside their parties and chat with them while giving some support in battle and so far the experience has been great.
The game's aesthetic is amazing, I love it, the maps are incredibly detailed and clean, hands up for the artistic team! OST is also really nice, but I would love a bit more variety tho. I'm also enjoying the writing so much, I'm one of those players who like to read and I really liked everything I've read so far. Great job guys!
The only thing I want to give some constructive criticism about is the quest scenarios. Jeez, how many times have I been in the same house killing different people? I understand the limits of the city map, but I feel like all the scenaries are used too many times for too many different quest lines.
I know I'm just giving my first stpes but I'm already in love with the game. Will of course purchase some premium stuff to give some economic support after I learn a bit more about the game. Keep the good work!

2024.05.22 03:55 StokeElk The 7 Items of “What Else Can I do to prep? My race is next week.”

This question above gets asked pretty often here on Reddit and most responses are something along the lines of “You should have been training this whole time”, or “you’re already out of time”. And while it is important to train leading up to your race, I think that these 7 things can make or break your race day. So here is a better answer than Reddit users saying it’s too late.
  1. Sleep
  2. Eat Carbs and Protein
  3. No New Foods, Be Hydrated
  4. Make a Race Plan
  5. Moderate Intensity Running/ Workouts
  6. Injury Recovery
  7. Understand your strengths
Sleep: A Lack of sleep while racing can cause faster fatigue, clumsiness, and may lead to possible injury. This doesn’t just go for the night before the race (and let’s assume you are like me and treat race day as Christmas Morning and can’t wait for it to start), but it goes for the week leading up to it. Most of us need 8hrs of sleep a night to be fully rested. Make it a goal to get 6 of 7 nights with an adequate amount of sleep.
Carbs and Protein: The food you consume has a high effect on your mood and how you feel when you exercise. Spartan Races take a lot of calories. On average, I burn 2500 calories for the beast. This past Trifecta weekend at big bear I burnt 5700 just from the 3 races! Eat Carbs for longer lasting energy and eat protein for muscle recovery leading up got the race or workout intensive days. I start eating more at the beginning of the week to compensate the loss.
No New Foods, Be Hydrated: This is a big one. Don’t change what you normally do when it comes to food before the race. No Brazilian Steak house with random meats wrapped in bacon the night before (I cannot confirm or deny I did this for SoCal this year). Likewise Breakfast on Race Day shouldn’t be anything new. What you eat should be true and tried with your body and workout habits. For me, Oatmeal, Bananas, and Plane Waffles sit well in my stomach as I am running. Drink Water! Heat Exhaustion is real especially now during the summer events. I drink a decent amount before and during the race to perform at my best.
Make a Race Plan: There are a lot of first timers that come to the races. There are many factors that may make your spartan race less than ideal. I plan what time I will leave, what time I’ll get there, stretching, and warming up before the race. In addition to that, I spend some time to plan out how I will run the race, what kind of pace I want to have, whether this specific race for time or for running with friends, what obstacles I failed last time and how I will change my strategy this time to be successful, and I even think about the obstacles that I do get that I want to be more efficient at. All these things allow for the best race day. Lockers, Bag Check, VIP Parking, transportation, and Hotels are all also important, you don’t want to accidentally stay 2 hours away from the venue because you forgot to look at the address. (Anyone do this at San Jose?)
Moderate Intensity Workouts: There are some that run spartan races that don’t prepare, think they really need to start doing something, and over do it. I’ve been a victim of my poor planning as well. I once had a race where I realized I had 2 weeks left to train (from not training the least bit). I wanted to do something so I started cranking out new PRs and distances, got sick, and then ran a race with being wiped from the sickness days prior. Trust me, you should keep your running and training more moderate the week of, no PRs, no new most miles ran, nada. If you wear a sport watch I’d say you should stay right in Zone 3 or 4 for your workouts and that will allow your body to be warmed up for the race on the weekend.
Injury Recovery: This is a big one. If you have injuries before the race plan for them. (You may ask why race when being injured and I tell you I am a Spartan, AROO!) If your knee hurts from running the past month get a knee brace. (Although the long term solution is to probably build up to running more mile or correct your form). If you pulled a muscle in your arm, plan on skipping the monkey bars or plan to take your time on certain obstacles. The biggest thing with this is paying attention to your body when it’s previously been injured and making adjustments as needed. Remember, transferring your race to a future venue is an option.
Understand your strengths: And I would add understand your weaknesses. This applies both to the running and obstacles. Part of this also ties into race planning. If you know you’ve barely hit the gym, but have spent most time running, I’d say try to get your legs to be used more in the obstacles. Don’t muscle up the wall but either hook your leg up on them or use the walk up the wall method. I ski a lot so downhills are my place to shine. Observing what other Spartans do on course is also a good way to learn better Techniques for your physical build. Open waves are also allowed to ask for help from other Spartans so keep that as an open option.
Good luck at your next race! Aroo!

2024.05.22 03:52 No_Positive7161 I'm enjoying the game

I haven't cared about COD in a while, last one I enjoyed was cold war and I mainly bought it for zombies. Anyways, this is genuinely some casual fun. Coming from an overwatch player where I constantly have to use 100% brain power, im glad I found a game where I still have a lot of ways express my skill without having to be in 100% focus tryhard mode to enjoy it. Two things that stand out to me so far: that splinter cell inspired class with the invisibility is really fun and the maps are really well made. They're beautiful, colorful, and well designed. The only map I don't enjoy that much is the one with the giant plane crash, too many long sightlines in my opinion. Anyways, I honestly don't see myself buying another call of duty when this is available for free. To me at least, this is a "call of duty killer".

My son was born at 35 weeks he has never hit a single milestone on time. He has an autism screening next week and I'm just trying to prepare myself. His therapists think he might have some sort of OCD, autism or anxiety. He is in our state's early intervention program and he has done occupational therapy, speech therapy, feeding therapy and developmental therapy.
My husband and I've been collecting a list of things that have been concerning for the last 6 to 9 months. I'm just wondering if these things seem worth having him tested for autism and what I should be expecting during his testing?
This is a random list completely out of order and not at all organized. I've made this list as things come to mind

2024.05.22 03:50 nilayj Morse Code, Polish, "At I", and Crypts (This is a Continuation/Part 2)

This is a continuation of my work (making a new post instead of a bigger wall of text, previous posts url: Translating to German and then Flipping : KryptosK4 (reddit.com))
Hello, I did some more work and seem to think I have figured something definitive out (which might not have been a question to begin with in the first place).
So my mind couldn't stop thinking about "AT I", which I derived out previously. Adding to my rush was another post made by another user on codes (url: Thoughts on Kryptos : codes (reddit.com)) mentioning IOCs (Index of Coincidence), which has the same acronym as IOC (International Olympic Committee), which is something I figured out may be tied to BERLIN CLOCK beforehand. Maybe something regarding Index of Coincidence needs to be used with K4. In turn, this may indirectly strengthens "AT I" being something real too.
In short, I wanted to focus more on "at I". So I began to think, seeing if it is actually an encryption key and/or a clue. What I found is interesting. When Mr. Sanborn gave his first clue in 2010, he only revealed Berlin, nothing else. Then later he revealed Clock. The placement of the words, and the timing of it seems to indicate that these two are related of course, but maybe more so than we previously thought.
Here is the an overlay of the Kryptos text, with the plain text below. The spacing is to keep the two words separate and thus easier to see what I will write below.
NYPVTT MZFPK
BERLIN CLOCK
Now what I noticed is that for Berlin, the first "T" leads to an "I", and the second "T" leads to an "N". Now I don't exactly know how I formulated this out, but the first "T" I imagined to be related to "AT I". It just kinda felt right. But then I connected this with "T is your position" and thought position is actually related to abscissa (note I later learned it doesn't need to be), and went to the right side keyed Vigenère, and using "T" as the abscissa and "A" as the other index for the vertical, I found it gives me "N".
Now, this all likely still isn't enough to be proof that "AT I" is valid phrase that should be looked into, but more proof is building for it. This next thing however really is interesting.
I wondered if instead of code per say, should "AT I" be taken literally. As in "at 'I'". With this, I used the Vigenère (I am gonna call it Vinny from now on), and found there are two diagonals consisting of "I"'s. Now I feel like I have found something incredible. For the top portion "I" line in Vinny, I traced its endpoint in both directions, and saw two "Q"'s at each end. Yep. And then when I again applied Q being one coordinate, and K being the other (last Kryptos letter for CLOCK) I saw it end up at "K" again.
It's not over. Then I saw in Vinny something I had already seen before hand, now I see in the Wikipedia article too. Vinny is an optical illusion. "BETWEEN SUBTLE SHADING AND THE ABSENCE OF LIGHT LIES THE NUANCE OF IQLUSION" Note the "I" leads into the "Q" for K1. Note how at least in the Wikipedia article, above the "I" line is "subtle shading" and below it is "the absence of light" that is the "MNQ" wall...
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now this isn't absolute proof that "AT I" is in fact a legitimate thing. For starters, the Wikipedia article has black text. Kryptos actually will be yellow or white text, as the light shines into and through the letters. But we can apply the logic of inversing the colors as another "flip" per say, and even more so even with white text on black backgrounding, the optical illusion exists, and "I" leading to "Q" matches. Also this use of Vinny only applies to BERLIN CLOCK right now. I did try to apply this for EAST NORTHEAST, but I couldn't find any bigger patterns or proof. But I don't think it is needed. BERLIN CLOCK was stated long before EAST NORTHEAST, that the timing is suspect, making me think BERLIN CLOCK is its own thing, and a frequency of two is enough, especially with other things considered. I think we can trust this is what ABC was supposed to lead to as well.
So... yeah. I feel that gives a lot of validity to "AT I", and also my previous work in regard to that. But I wasn't done yet and found one last thing, bringing further proof that the Swedish Dodo is actually legitimate.
"T IS YOUR POSITION E" is strange. It can be just taken at face value, or as commonly thought "WHAT IS YOUR POSITION E" rather. I also added to that by stating it maybe "IT IS YOUR POSITION E". Well, focusing on "T is" rather than the next two variants, I happened to see one last thing in Vinny. The first row has an "E". Below that, is a "T". "T IS YOUR POSITION E" is actually a question we are sending to his holiness, KING TUT. So basically, in my last post I realized that the Morse Code has a joke where in a sense King Tut, who's discovery is stated in K3, is actually trying to communicate with us. Well, turns out, in Vinny, the "T" below the "E" (the "E" being an abscissa) is actually the last letter in the first portion of the second line, that matters.
"AKRYPT"
aka. "A KRYPT!"
Yep. It's right there. Now, I may have at least had some subconscious and reddit help. See, in this very subreddit, of which I still a very new part, there is one pinned post for the all the letters in K4. However, underneath it, is a unique comment. Only one, by u/Infinite_Force1227.
"Tosa tosa tosa tosa"
I have no idea what plane this person is thinking on. Maybe he is the legendary man who responded to Steve Harvey's "Pork", with "Upine", but holy moly (I wanna avoid curse words), but below the "T" of "A KRYPT" is in fact TOSA. I don't know how... But at least the ABC does in fact match with TOS, thus indicating a kinda bridge present, and filling it in gives of course King Tut letting us know where he is you know.
Now, here is the final dash of sprinkles. KRYPT is technically Polish for crypt. Google translate to the rescue again. But as mentioned, there are two clocks (technically more) in Berlin. One, the true Berlin Clock, and the other, the World Clock itself. The world clock has a compass at the bottom. Going EAST NORTHEAST gets you too POLAND.
So there isn't just German involved here, but also definitely Polish, and very likely Swedish. That did bug me as to why the Dodo was Dront, but now I know. Anyhow, this is my progress so far. If you have read this far, then thank you.

2024.05.22 03:46 Ill_Dependent8073 Stories or Responsibilities in Work and Activities?

I originally had all my work and activities descriptions written out, with only a few activities having specific anecdotes. THEN I watched a Dr. Gray video that basically said do NOT sell yourself or describe your responsibilities, tell stories instead. So I went back and changed my descriptions. Can anyone share their opinions on if this is the best way to go or not? I have a couple examples of my original descriptions and my new descriptions here:
Example #1 original:
As a member of the Habitat for Humanity Club, I participated in builds 1-3 times per semester to contribute to the construction or renovation of homes for local families. I assisted in tasks including demolition, exterior siding, landscaping, insulation, and painting. I first became involved in Habitat because I know firsthand how anxiety-inducing it can be to experience housing instability. Growing up in a single-parent household, we bounced from one friend's basement to another for the majority of my childhood. Now that I am in a position where I feel stable and safe in my own home, helping build that space for other families has been incredibly gratifying.

Growing up, my family bounced from one friend's basement to another for the majority of my childhood. Now that I am in a position where I feel stable and safe in my own home, helping build that space for other families has been incredibly gratifying. One of my favorite memories was eating a homemade lunch prepared by the future homeowners of the house in which we were installing flooring that day. The son excitedly described how he told everyone in his class that he finally had his own bedroom. Moments like those made all the physical labor worthwhile.
Example #2 original:
I served as a tutor and a study group facilitator for introductory evolutionary biology and molecular biology. As a study group facilitator, I prepared worksheets and activities to reinforce course content and encourage group problem-solving for weekly 2-hour sessions with up to 15 students. As a tutor, I held several one-on-one appointments each week, eventually earning CRLA tutor certification. In October 2023, I was promoted to Tutor Team Leader. My responsibilities included overseeing a group of 15 tutors, conducting observations and evaluations, and training new tutors. I learned to effectively communicate complex topics and leveraged my experiences to mentor and train new tutors.
Example #2 edited: I served as a tutor and study group facilitator for two biology courses, earning CRLA tutor certification after my first year. In October 2023, I was promoted to Tutor Team Leader, which involved overseeing a group of tutors, conducting tutor observations and evaluations, and training new tutors. The most gratifying part of these jobs was sharing my love of science with others, even inspiring some students to become tutors and facilitators themselves. One of my fondest memories as a tutor was when “Ana,” who studied devotedly for weeks after failing her first exam, came to her tutoring session grinning as she shouted “I passed!” Her commitment to learning continues to inspire me daily.

2024.05.22 03:45 Nervous_Eye4203 Just fired from a job for the first time and I don't think it was my fault

Hi there, I'm not sure if this is the correct sub, so please let me know if it's not. I was hoping for some advice and maybe some words of encouragement. I was fired from my job at a VR Arcade a week ago, and I'm really struggling with feeling like an absoloute failure. I also can't afford rent now, and I'm in my last push of getting my degree, so I'm really stressed out.
I was good at my job, really really good, my manager said so. My colleague doesn't think I should've got fired over what happened - nobody I actually worked with agrees with the decision, but it was out of their hands as it was made by the owner of the company (relatively small business). I believe if it had been down to my manager, I would still be there, as he was backing me while my termination was in discussion. I'm in the UK, for context, if this affects anything. I was employed there twice.
At the VR arcade, we ran VR escape rooms and free-play "gaming sessions" (I don't know why but the name of it makes me cringe), and birthday parties for kids (where they can all play gorilla tag or among us, for example) which are dependent on the PCs...working. They are plagued with technical and physical issues to this day, and bookings often don't run too well.
I had been saying since over a year ago, when I was first employed there, that the PCs weren't running very well, and that we really needed somebody to come down to our store to take a look at what was going wrong, but nothing was done. Then my (old) manager, who was almost 40, confessed feelings for me over text message, and I was 21 at the time. I found it sickening because we had a very "I ask you for life advice and you tell me about your life experiences" relationship, and he was always talking about how he wanted a wife and kids, so I was really upset and uncomfortable. We were the only two people working there. I told my boss that I was really upset and asked if we could be kept seperate. Because there was only the two of us, the bookings wouldn't allow for it (we'd have to work together), and "what he'd done wasn't illegal", my boss refused to accomodate anything at all so I walked out on the spot.
About six months later, I'm asked to come back for a higher wage and I agree. Creepy manager left after I did, they employed two new teenagers, and they've lost another staff member. Again, there is now only two of us working there. For context, sometimes we are expected to help up to 6 kids by ourselves with their games. This sounds relatively fair, until you imagine you're in a room with 6 7-12 year olds trying to play virtual reality, which many of them have never touched before, alongside PC crashes and errors and trying to make sure they all still have fun, whilst their parents are shooting daggers at you and loudly saying "Timmy, is your headset broken?", when in actuality they ignored the instruction talk and are pressing the buttons they were specifically told not to. Meaning I have to put their headset on and get them back into the game that they were in because they've found the settings. As soon as I come out, someone's PC has started throwing out errors and I need to fix that - and then another "excuse me!" - It's hard to juggle by yourself.
I start getting vocal about the PC issues again, and eventually someone comes down to "fix" them but we're still getting issues. There was one complaint because my boss did not pay for the game pass (and xboxes are advertised on the party packages), and kids couldn't play the games that were being advertised. I had to text him, during the party, to get it sorted out (and even then, I had to go and get the card and individually enter it on all of the xboxes and leave the kids in the VR room unattended - coming back to a backlog of issues which I can't fix in a timely manner). Eventually - and only because they thought I might be leaving due to the end of my course when I said I wanted to stay on full time - they hired a third person who is like the Jesus of VR.
On my last day, I had to tell my boss to pay the VR game subscription so that the day could run at all. Of course, this led to all of the PCs freaking out, and my colleague (who is luckily a VR wizard, she develops games for that) managed to fix it just in time for a party but even she experienced some hassle.
I play a lot of games, and I'm great with kids, but I'm not a technician, nor am I a manager and this was not listed in the job description. We have several complaints about the equipment not working on their booking. Our PCs were plaugued with technical issues (critical SteamVR fails for example) and crashes, which meant that entire bookings were being ruined, and I was being spoken to really badly by customers. I'm very sensitive because I have anxiety, so this was awful for me, and I cried several times on different days. I once had somebody ask: "who's running this sh*t show?" and "this is a f*cking waste of money" (on my last day). On my last day too, a lady booked the wrong time and said "the more you talk, the more you're wasting my kids time" and insisting that the booking system was wrong and that it was not her fault - even though the booking system has never messed up and the time she booked was the only available time we'd have had, as I checked the bookings the night prior and she had booked the only free space.
I have a lady that the bosses wife labelled as "horrible" break me in the end, she raised her voice at me while I was doing absoloutely everything I can to make her kids birthday party run well. It was a packed Saturday, and my boss had understaffed due to wanting to save money, so I was the only person on that floor. I couldn't ask my colleague for help as we're not allowed to leave anyone unsupervised and she was upstairs. The party I'm trying to run keeps failing, and several people are turning up early and bombarding me with questions even though they could clearly see how stressed I was, and that I was in the middle of trying to fix things.
My manager had given himself the day off, I'm by myself. There are so many people waiting (turning up 30 minutes early), that I run out of space in the xbox room for them to wait, and the party I'm trying to run keeps failing. I end up calling my manager, having an anxiety attack (I think) and having to go out the back. I couldn't breathe and I was crying and I felt dizzy, I almost fell over. The "horrible woman" comes over to the desk and mutters about how it's a "f*cking waste of money", apparently she was "wrecking our ratings on live chat and being really personal".
My manager comes in and I leave - I tell him over text while he's on the way that I don't want to quit, but I'm sick of being the face of a broken product and getting abuse for it. I ask if I still have a job when I come back into the building and he's arrived, and he said it'll be discussed but that I "shouldn't get fired".
I leave, go to see a fake Radiohead concert with my friends and get super smashed. No surprises was not a pleasant one when you think you're about to get fired LMAO
I start getting messages from my manager and my colleague saying, and I quote, "we looked at the PCs, and we can confirm none of the issues were your fault today". My colleague then messages me privately and gives me some hope, saying that it shouldn't be a big deal.
Turns out, the thermal paste on the PC that was being the worst out of them all had worn down thermal paste, which my colleague had to replace herself.
Well...this "discussion" was supposed to happen the following day, but they postpone it to Wednesday. I found this disrespectful on top of not getting breaks on packed days, being paid late and a general lack of communication from my boss and his wife.
I ask bosses wife what's going on. She calls me: "you're just too anxious, the people in [where you live] are so much more cutthroat than in our other locations, you're just not a good fit".
I think this is so unfair. I was essentially fired for having an anxiety condition, which would never have impacted my work if it wasn't for technical problems that I had raised dozens of times that they should have fixed. I asked if the decision was final and she said yes. She was almost crying, but she still did it - so I don't really care about how hard it was for her anymore. She did it on an unknown number, too, which looking back, I think is kind of weird.
TL:DR; I was fired from my job because issues with equipment that I had raised dozens and dozens of times over the course of nearly two years were ignored. Bookings started getting ruined, we were understaffed and customers were horrible to me, leading to my anxiety condition being triggered and having a panic attack on several occasions. On my last day, it was so bad I had to ask my manager to come in and I left. I was fired on the basis of being "too anxious", and I'm distraught. Does anyone have any advice?

2024.05.22 03:41 EclosionK2 .

The HRRFY.
It’s the horror movie festival where something genuinely fucked happens every year. And I mean every year.
Like, there are some screenings that unleash hordes of bats while the movie is playing. You're free to leave whenever you want, but the movie will still play for 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Other screenings hire actors to turn at you and scream at some point in the movie. You have no idea when, or how many times.
It's a festival where the word "illegal" can't even begin to describe what occurs. You'd only attend if you were a young, stupid edgelord like me who was trying to prove he was hardcore to his friends.
Trust me. DO NOT GO.
You have nothing to prove to anyone. Don't be stupid.
Wait for the lamer film versions to come out streaming. That's what everyone else does. They're neutered edits but they're fine.
All they lack is the real gleaming thing everyone wants to see at HRRFY, but who cares. At least you don’t get traumatized. At least you’re not risking your life.
Anyway, if you really want to know what attending HRRFY is like. I’ll be quick and summarize the one screening I went to. It was the 20th anniversary, and I was lucky enough to get in.
***
I had signed up for the HRRFY mailing list, and joined the subreddit. Through a series of cryptic online emails I solved a sequence of riddles and was entered in the lottery for a HRRFY entry.
Lady Luck took a shine to me, because one day in my mailbox, I received a physical ticket. I had done it.
I was going.
The actual ‘ticket’ was a black USB key that announced the location of the festival the night before (which I won’t disclose here) and it did force me to pay for a very expensive flight in order for me to make it on time.
You see, to prevent getting shut down, the location of HRRFY changes every year. Some years the local police have managed to stop it, but for the most part, authorities have given up. What’s the point of arresting or charging anyone, if all the organizers and attendees actually want to be there?
Upon arrival, I had to pick between three participating theaters.
Based on title alone, I decided to go see “Many Drownings” (directed by Oleksander Gołański.) It was in the theater that was furthest away from the downtown core, which meant it was likely the one where the craziest shit was bound to happen.
That’s what I came here for right?
I lined up a solid two hours before the screening like everyone else. The entire line was jittering, just vibrating with excited twenty-somethings. Rumors flew left and right.
“I heard they’re going to force everyone to take acid.”
“I heard an actor’s gonna run in and shotgun the ceiling.”
“I heard they’re going to disappear like four more people this year. At this screening!”
Each year people disappeared. And each year the same people were ‘found.’ And yes this is the worst part, and why should never, ever, ever go to this event.
Again I will repeat myself. DO NOT GO.
No one has ever truly gone 'missing' at HRRFY in any legal or physical sense, because every missing person always shows up a day later, convinced that they are fine—refusing to elaborate further.
There are some small support groups for people who have family members who had gone to HRRFY, and came back irrevocably changed after being ‘found.’
These few unlucky people lose all semblance of personality. They don’t want interviews, or help, or therapy, or contact of any kind. And they never, ever want to talk about what they saw.
Some HRRFY fans think that these ‘found’ people were body-snatched. Cloned in a lab or replaced by a cyborg, or something stupid like that.
But I think there’s a far simpler explanation. The ‘found’ are still the same people. They're just terrified. They got shaken by something that shattered the foundation of their mind, body and soul. They got too scared.
They got HRRFY’d.
***
I should mention I had a cough the day I went. And I was worried my sickly appearance might give me trouble at the airport.
So I invested in an intense double N95 mask which I wore for the whole flight, and continued to wear even at the screening of “Many Drownings.”
It made my face hot and uncomfortable, but it still didn’t stop me from yelling “excuse me, excuse me!” as I ran to snag a seat in the back of the theater.
I always preferred sitting in the far back. You get a good view of the whole screen, and a good view of the whole audience.
Beside me sat a big dude named Sylvester, who apparently flew all the way from Australia to attend HRRFY.
“Worth the full Seventeen hours mate! It’s gonna be epic!” he dropped a massive camping backpack beside me, which I assume contained all of his luggage.
The lights dimmed, and the production company logos started to play.
The whispering, giggling and suspense all stacked upon each other to create an electric feeling in the air. I was giddy. It's like the entire audience was embarking on a massive roller coaster.
The anticipation was the best part for sure. It might have been the only good part.
Then the movie started.
It was a wide shot of a gray, stormy sea. The waves were massive, and the thunderclouds were looming. There was no land visible in any direction.
All we could hear was the sound of waves foaming, swirling, and crashing over and over. Lightning crackled. Rain poured. The camera held perfectly still over this storm as if it was mounted on a perfectly hovering drone. A drone so resilient that it didn’t waver at all.
I thought it had to be CGI.
The shot held like this for the next few moments. Everyone sat glued to their seats. Everyone was thinking the same thing.
What’s going to happen? How are they going to scare us?
People chuckled. People cheered. People wanted to tease whatever was going to happen—to happen already.
But nothing did.
Five, ten, maybe fifteen minutes went by without any change. People started snoring.
I looked beside me and saw that Sylvester—the most excited audience member of them all—had fallen totally asleep. The jet lag must’ve gotten to him.
Then I peered beyond the rest of the audience members and saw other people snoozing too. Heads were keeled over, some people were curled in their seats, some had even spilled out into the aisle and were dozing on the floor.
I looked above the bright screen, at the huge vents in the corner of the theater. I saw a faint white gas emerging from the vents.
Holy shit. What have we been breathing? I tightened the straps on my N95 mask, and made my breathing shallower.
The gas must have been pumping since the opening credits—because how else would an audience of two hundred people all fall asleep?
As I moved my hand through the air in front of me, I could sense the thickness. It was definitely hazier than usual. I took the scarf off my neck and wrapped it around my mouth as well.
Then I spotted movement in front of the screen.
It was a tall blonde man, wearing a black trenchcoat and military-grade gas mask. Beside him arrived six hazmat suits who started pointing at various audience members.
I slunk in my chair, pretending to sleep like everyone else.
Two hazmats walked over to the front row and picked out a sleeping guy in flannel. They lifted flannel up, under the armpits and by his ankles, carrying him between them both like a hammock.
The hazmats walked back up to the stage, where the blonde leader inspected the flannel man and tapped his head. Something was approved?
The hazmats began to swing flannel back and forth, as if they were getting ready to toss him. Despite their masks, I could hear a very muffled, very distant countdown.
Three…”
Two…”
One…”
The flannel audience member was tossed into the screen.
I literally watched him fly into the image of stormy waves … andfallinto them. The flannel man sank into the gray water like a rock, leaving a few bubbles and foam. A wave came crashing down. All trace of him was gone.
What the fuck.
All six hazmats began grabbing more audience members with much more urgency. It became a minute-long process where they would pick the sleeping person up, bring them beside the screen, and then swing-toss them into it.
How was this possible?
I turned slightly to see if there was a projector above me, and realized there was none. Which meant maybe there was no screen on stage.
Which meant … maybe it was a portal?
I tried to wake Sylvester by shaking him. I pinched his leg and arm a bunch.
He was out cold.
The hazmats started grabbing audience members from the middle rows now. They were emptying the whole theater. What the hell was I supposed to do?
I waited until they grabbed another batch, only a few rows down from me. When all hazmats had their backs turned—I broke into a run.
With my left arm, I tightly gripped my mask and scarf against my face, while my right arm vaulted me over seat after seat.
I had never breathed so hard—through so much fabric—in my life.
The hazmats all turned to me. “Hey! Hey!” But their hands were full with their next victims.
I ran all the way down the aisle, to the big exit sign on the left. My heartbeat filled my head. My plan was to dropkick through the exit door.
I imagined myself breaking through like some flying gazelle.
I jumped.
I angled my kick.
It might as well have been a brick wall. I fell ass-first to the ground, followed by my head. Of course the door was locked.
Through a muffled mask I heard a sneering scoff.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
Above me stood the one wearing a trenchcoat. I could see his piercing gray eyes through his gas mask.
I rolled aside and tried to run by him. He lifted a foot and tripped me without effort.
My forehead bashed into an empty seat. It dazed me.
The blonde leader bent down and grabbed me by the neck, tearing away my scarf and mask.
“No! No!”
A sweet, ether-like smell filled my nostrils. I did my best to hold my breath, but I could already feel myself getting light-headed.
The other hazmats joined in, grabbing me from all sides. Even if I had the strength to struggle, there was no escape now.
Above me, all I could see was the dark theater ceiling, and some of the light behind me from the cinema screen.
Three…”
Two…”
“No. Please. Don’t do thi—”
SPLASH.
I was plunged deep into cold, wet chaos. My head was completely underwater.
Gagging. Bubbles. Spinning.
I fought for dear life, dog-paddling like a maniac.
Churning. Freezing. Panic.
For a second, my head popped above the water. I inhaled all the air my lungs could muster. I stared across a vast, violent ocean.
An enormous thirty foot wave came in my direction.
My whole body lifted higher and higher as the wave approached. I did my best to tread water. It seemed to be working.
Then a series of smaller waves arrived and smacked my chest.
SPLASH.
Spinning. Kicking. Flipping.
My view alternated between the pitch dark ocean beneath me, and the moonlit night sky above.
Again I swam to the surface, popped my head out. Ravenously sucked in air.
There was a small lull in the water.
Around me I now registered the other theater goers. Most of them were lying face-down or sinking … but a few were flapping about like me, fighting for their life.
And above all of us, a floating white shape.
It was painfully bright, I had to lift one hand to look at it.
My jaw dropped.
It was the movie screen, hanging completely still in the air. It showed a dark, empty theater. The exact same theater we all occupied moments ago.
It was tremendously high, above all of our heads. There was no way of reaching it.
Then I saw another thirty foot wave come our way. It grazed the bottom of the screen.
I knew what had to be done.
***
One of the theater goers happened to be on a college swim team. She was the first one able to traverse one of the giant waves and climb into the screen.
Once she was up there, she found a firehose in the theater and reeled it out to us like a rope.
One by one, we swam as hard as we could, praying to God we could reach the rope. Everyone’s energy was sapped. Your body can only sustain itself on adrenaline and fear for so long.
By some miracle, five of us got out.
I was the last.
I climbed the rope coughing and vomiting. I had swallowed so much water that my stomach felt swollen.
When I reached the top and they pulled me into the screen, I sobbed. I couldn’t stop crying.
My life had flashed countless times before my eyes. In bubbling, suffocating visions, I saw both my parents and my brother. I saw my highschool graduation. I saw my favorite Christmas from when I was six years old.
I had almost lost all of that. I had lost almost everything.
On the dirty, carpeted theater floor, I lay with my face down, savoring the fact that I now lay on a hard surface. God bless ground. God bless this filthy, popcorn-strewn ground.
Beside me I heard bantering, hugging, the wringing of wet clothes. Sylvester was the second last to be saved, and he was particularly vocal.
“Wooooooaaaaahh!” He came and drummed me on the back, lifted me up. “Oh my god dude! Holy shit!”
I sat on my knees, wiping the tears and snot off my mouth.
Sylvester clapped his hands, held his face and screamed some more.
“Holy shit dude! That was so fucking scary! Like literally people were dying beside us. Like I SAW people die!”
I nodded, shivering in my drenched clothes. “ I know it was—”
“—That was craaaaazy!”
He laughed and stood up, patting everyone on the back. He kept clapping his hands like this was some sports event.
“That was sick! That was siiiiiiiiick!”
He ruffled someone’s hair then ran up to me with an open palm.
“High five dude! WE MADE IT! High five!
“Don’t leave me hangin’ dude!

2024.05.22 03:40 No_Owl_2558 Multiple questions about speed and planar set

(Photo related to my last question)
Hello!! With her rerun on the way soon, I want to get her lightcone, as the one I have is only S2 sadly enough, and this made me go back and look at the build I have for her and questions what I have done lol
So here are my questions:
Is more BE the better? I currently have 223 BE outside of battles and I was wondering if I should lower it down to I think the min you’d want is 160?
Does the trace about speed also affect her? And is it a % like it shows or is it actually a flat value?
And finally! I wanted to change my planar set for ageless as I only run ruan mei in my DOT team until I discover this master of a piece. I was wondering if it was worth farming for ageless then because I won’t get a piece as good as this one in the future. (I also don’t have a clue if deffence was the way to go for the main stat, but I tried to make her the more tanky possible when I could)
Thank you!!

2024.05.22 03:39 ScrewsLooseAus Umart GPU return/warranty issues

Purchased an Asus Tuf Gaming 4080OC from umart
5 months later the GPU temp was reading 78⁰c but with hotspots of 114⁰c resulting in thermal throttling and a GPU crash.
Umart denied that this was a major fault and refused a refund and instead sent it off for assessment.
The GPU sat with Umarts assessment team from the 5th of may until it was sent to Asus on the 20th.
This seems like an excessive process and I'm considering involving qcat to get a refund.
Anyone had a similar experience and can offer insight or advice?
Cheers

2024.05.22 03:39 lastofthefinest Skinwalker Ranch just discovered some kind of huge object under the mesa on the ranch. Could it be the crashed UFO Ross Coulthart has alluded to in his podcasts?

Ross Coulthart has talked about a crashed UFO that could not be moved because of it’s size, so something was built around it. Tonight on Skinwalker Ranch they believe they have found something buried beneath the mesa on the ranch with a large debris field around it. They have observed many military planes flying very low over them lately. Something else that is noteworthy is when they drilled into the mesa in the past, they found material inside the mesa that was the same material used to shield the space shuttle as a heat shield. I know some people don’t like the show, but it’s very interesting what they have been finding.

2024.05.22 03:38 Authmion New to 40k and kill team in general, looking for building advice!

Im New to 40k in general. Setting up my first kill team following this guide:
https://www.reddit.com/killteam/comments/t22yv5/guide_assembly_guide_for_the_chalnath_tau/
I got the pathfinders box, and the new Tau Combat Patrol box with the 2nd pathfinder team to build the full set per your recommendations!
I *THINK* I have enough to make a full Hunter Cadre set too, save for the stealth suits which i'll either print or buy later.
but trying to interpret the rules for the hunter cadre, trying to figure out how many drone operatives or whatever else to make with my leftover dudes...
Pathfinders box: Shas'ui Pathfinder Communications Specialist Weapon Expert (Ion Rifle) Weapon Expert (Rail Rifle) Marksman Pathfinder Blooded Pathfinder Drone Controller Pathfinder Assault Grenadier Pathfinder Medical Technical Pathfinder Transpectral Interference Pathfinder MB3 Recon Drone MV7 Marker Drone MV4 Shield Drone
From the Combat Patrol Box: Shas'la Pathfinder Shas'la Pathfinder Weapon Expert (Ion Rifle) Weapon Expert (Rail Gun) MV33 Grav-Inhibitor Drone MV31 Pulse Accelerator Drone MV1 Gun Drone
To finish Recon Archetype in Hunter Cadre: from CP box: Shas'la Pathfinder Shas'la Pathfinder Shas'la Pathfinder
Leaves me with enough bodies for 3 more.... What others should I build to have a full set for hunter cadre as well?
And last question, If I finish building them all out in this way, am I still 40k full game compatible? I wanna try to not lock myself out of anything....

2024.05.22 03:33 Possible_Parsley_598 Advice On Leaving a Team

I want to leave the team I’m on. The open houses are burning me out. This is the Team Lead's favorite lead generation (and from what I can tell after a year, their only lead generation outside of being well known in the community from a previous public role). I’ve been in RE for 10 years but joined their team after relocating to a new city. I figured it was a great way to build up a new book of business while I sorted some other things out.
My last 3 closings; 1 from them. 2 from me. On 50/50 team provided and 70/30 on my own splits. No brokerage split on top. 15k from their lead to me and 26k sent from mine to them. My next two are all from my sphere. One of them is under contract. The other very serious and writing offers. The split would send an additional total $7600 my TL's way.
To be fair, they have sent me a TON of rental leads that I hate working (because iykyk) but they pay way more than my previous market area, so I do it. Of those probably 20% sign leases equaling about an extra 1k a month for dealing with a lot of duds. The rentals only started really flowing in this spring while a unique market highering sector picked up. So about 3k there in the last 90 days. My past experience with listings is that few people make it through consumer websites to the listing agent and even fewer call signs anymore. I don't think my TL is hiding buyer leads, if anything they may be too busy to catch them due to the listing volume they have.
Thing is I picked up a part-time job immediately after moving here before joining the team. (Bled money to get out of a rough personal situation and had to put a tourniquet on it). I’m on track to make close to 62k working 25ish hrs a week there. It is at night bartending high volume and doesn't affect my clients other than having to text after 8pm on weekends and not taking appointments before 10AM. (I get up early, for a bartender [old FTR me would be up by 6am] and check my email etc around 8am on my days off from the bar and do the same on weekends I work behind the pine, but I'm not a real human until 10am). BOY OH BOY WE GET ROCKED HARD Friday and Saturday nights.
One thing about the bar is; I FUCKING LOVE NOT THINKING ABOUT WORK WHEN I'M OFF!!! I also love saying FUCK! After 10 years of being a full-time agent, going back to Bartending really opened my eyes to how silly some of my attachments to being a Full Time Realtor were (one example; working like a dog for commissions, all so when people ask me what I do for a living I could have some title? lol DUMB).
I don't want to leave RE entirely, but I love only working with people referred to me. If it weren't for these Open Houses eating up my Saturday and Sunday rest every weekend I would be content. ( I know leads eat those days up too but those are by choice and not EVERY DAMN WEEKEND).
One of my referred buyers JUST went UC on a new build. I'd be leaving next week knowing this will close next month. TL doesn't know about it. The extra $3800 would move a financial goalpost for me (fixing some wild shit that near killed me in 22, necessitating the move and complete life implosion).
I could just negotiate a better split; I do like having a TC, the ISA I'm 50/50 sold on they mostly just pester my database into sending STOP requests.... but I FUCKING HATE OH's! I don't feel a TC is worth $3800... For the amount of transactions I'm doing, I really can do it myself. Training is non-existent aside from some Tom Ferry videos lol and I have 7 years on my TL. They do have a lot of listings consistently though, so I'm not knocking their abilities as an agent.
For those curious; for lead gen I would continue to work my sphere and target off-market properties through a system that's been successful for me in the past. I prefer to put my LG efforts into sellers. Possibly take the extra from the splits and try a few new things too.
TL:DR; I want to leave my team and not pay the 30% on this next deal and leave before anything else goes UC. Do I tell them I even have it or just leave and see what happens? I would stay at the same brokerage. TL never sent me a copy of the Team Agreement.

2024.05.22 03:31 SeriousMaterial3755 Tales from the Trenches: Disastrous and Victorious Stories of Being a Landlord

In the world of real estate investing, being a landlord can often feel like navigating a roller coaster of experiences. From the adrenaline-pumping highs of successful ventures to the gut-wrenching lows of unexpected disasters, each story offers valuable lessons and insights. As a multi-family real estate team specializing in selling apartment complexes across the United States, we’ve gathered some of the most memorable landlord success stories and nightmares to share with you.
The Victories: Success Stories That Inspire

Turning Around a Troubled Property

One of our clients, John, purchased an aging apartment complex in a less-than-desirable neighborhood. The property had a notorious reputation, with frequent complaints and high tenant turnover. However, John saw potential where others saw problems. He invested in significant renovations, improved security measures, and implemented community-building activities. Within a year, the complex transformed into a thriving community with happy tenants and a waiting list for new leases. John’s story is a testament to the power of vision and perseverance in real estate investing.

The Perfect Tenant

Emma, a landlord with several properties, shared her story of finding the perfect tenant. After dealing with numerous problematic tenants, she finally rented one of her units to Lisa, a young professional who treated the property as her own. Lisa consistently paid rent on time, maintained the property impeccably, and even added value by enhancing the garden. Emma’s experience highlights the importance of thorough tenant screening and the joy of finding a tenant who respects and cares for the property.

Record-Breaking Occupancy Rates

Sarah, an experienced real estate investor, managed to achieve record-breaking occupancy rates in her newly acquired apartment complex. She achieved this by focusing on tenant satisfaction, offering amenities such as a fitness center, and organizing community events. Her proactive management approach and attention to tenant needs led to low vacancy rates and high tenant retention, proving that investing in tenant experience pays off in the long run.

The Nightmares: Disastrous Stories That Serve as Warnings

The Tenant from Hell

Mark, a seasoned landlord, shared his harrowing experience with a tenant who caused extensive damage to his property. Despite a thorough screening process, the tenant managed to slip through the cracks and wreak havoc. From unauthorized pets to property damage and unpaid rent, the ordeal was a nightmare. Mark’s story underscores the importance of having a robust lease agreement, regular property inspections, and being prepared to take swift legal action when necessary.

Major Maintenance Mishaps

Linda, a landlord with multiple properties, faced a major maintenance disaster when a water pipe burst in one of her apartment complexes. The flooding caused significant damage to several units and disrupted the lives of many tenants. The incident was a stark reminder of the importance of regular property maintenance and having an emergency response plan in place. Linda’s proactive communication and prompt repairs helped mitigate tenant frustration, but the financial impact was substantial.

Legal Battles and Evictions

James, an apartment complex owner, recounted his challenging experience with a tenant who refused to vacate the property despite multiple lease violations. The legal battle that ensued was lengthy and costly, highlighting the complexities of eviction processes. 2024.05.22 03:30 rboom123 I just crashed both of my RC planes in the past 24 hours

I am heartbroken. I loved my little planes. My carbon cub taught me how to fly. And my UMX Turbo Timber was my fun little guy to toss about the skies.
Flying RC planes is not my only hobby; rocketry is one of my others. They make these chute release devices so you don’t have to walk as far to collect your rocket, it deploys the chute once it falls below a certain altitude. As if I didn’t already learn my lesson, I killed my carbon cub, this time completely, by testing the chute release (which hasn’t been working on my launches lately) on the plane. The first time I had this brilliant idea- about a year ago- I just taped the device onto the plane. Chute releases, is supposed to fly away altogether but instead inflates and gets stuck in the rear stabilizer. Crash, nearly totaled. Enter: frankencub.
THIS time, I dangled it below the plane with rubber bands, but one of the chute lines decided to conveniently wrap itself around the tail landing gear. Totaled. That was yesterday.
As for my UMX Turbo Timber EVO, I lost orientation while doing a barrel roll above a pine tree I swore was further away. It wasn’t further away. Completely the result of my own poor decision making. Crashed and took residence 40 feet up a pine tree. Probably was repairable but it’s not like I’ll ever get that one back. Gone. That was an hour ago.
Even though I had already ordered a plane yesterday after totaling my Carbon Cub, a Decanthlon 1.2m (aerobatic high-wing), I feel so deflated by this tragic sequence of events. Why should I want to continue doing this if it always results in the same end? I wouldn’t even say that I’m a bad pilot, frankly before tonight I thought myself a pretty good one. I have good control over the planes, landing too, but my decision making has proven to be the bane of my flying experience. The aerobatic maneuvers that I am more than capable of doing I execute at the wrong times.
Don’t know what advice I’m looking for, but please lay it on me.
