2024.05.21 14:03 kayakero Smart Money Concept: The Inner Circle Trader Theory

Smart Money Concept: The Inner Circle Trader Theory
Surely in recent months you will have begun to hear about concepts such as Order Blocks, Break of Structure or Liquidity Voids, all related in some way to a new philosophy of understanding trading called Smart Money Concepts.
To put some order and explain these concepts with some clarity, shedding some light on all this mass of names, we begin here this series of articles with which I hope to clear up all doubts.

The Origin: The Inner Circle Trader

To understand what Smart Money Concepts is, it is inevitable to talk about the creator of this trading philosophy: Michael J. Huddleston.
Known online as The Inner Circle Trader (ICT), Huddleston became popular more than 10 years ago when he started the eponymous YouTube channel, posting videos in which he discussed his trading ideas, his approach to trading in the currencies and his vision about the impact of psychology on trading.
In case you dare to watch all the videos published by this good man from the beginning, I can tell you that some of them last more than 2 hours! Apparently, this long duration is completely intentional, because as he himself points out, he likes to leave hidden clues about his methodology in the videos, with the student being the one who must take the time to look for them and investigate them in depth.
Huddleston initially published all of his materials openly (in fact, you can find links to his old videos on BabyPips under the pseudonym System, although they no longer work), but he later decided to eliminate much of the original material and create a mentoring service in 2017, which provoked the ire of his followers, receiving a multitude of negative reviews since then (especially because he originally said he would never charge for information).
All this adds to the black legend that circulates in the forums that he managed several million dollars for a family of Greek millionaires settled in the US, to whom he lost a lot of money. In this way, Huddleston has become a quite controversial character, defended and hated in equal parts on the Internet.
But there is no doubt that, today, its methodology based on Price Action has spread widely among traders .

Smart Money Drives the Markets

The starting point of the ICT philosophy is that Smart Money (basically, banks and institutional traders) basically acts as a price manipulator, looking for large accumulations of resident stop orders in the market to make them jump and achieve its goal to execute its orders and those of its clients at the best possible prices. And, in the words of Huddleston:
Huddleston calls the algorithm that manages the markets IPDA (Interbank Price Delivery Algorithm) . The function of the IPDA is to manipulate prices in order to create liquidity in the market. Smart Money, which understands how this algorithm works, manages to take advantage of price movement by exploiting two aspects:
  1. Liquidity above/below old highs and lows. 2. Inefficient price action areas.
For all this, understanding when and where the IPDA will manipulate the price is the only way for the retail trader to make money, taking advantage of the upward and downward movements that Smart Money creates. And absolutely all the patterns seen on the charts, such as shoulder-head-shoulders or trend lines, are generated by the IPDA to attract retail money to the market. Thus, the correct question to ask if we want to make money in trading is: “ Where are the retail stops located?”
After reviewing a little what the philosophical basis of this method is, perhaps it is advisable to adopt a critical view (in fact, you always have to be critical with any trading methodology): although at first glance, the idea that the market is manipulated may seem seductive for many retail traders who seek to justify their losses due to this type of manipulation (how many times have we heard that: they have gone for my stop!?), the theory behind Smart Money Concepts must be taken with a grain of salt, since It is evident that:
  • It is unlikely that the price action will be generated by a single algorithm designed for it.
  • Institutionals play in a very different league to that of retailers, with the latter's volumes being too small to be relevant.
  • It is true that price sweeps and false breakouts sometimes occur, but this does not prove that they are necessarily the result of continued market manipulation.
However, and although the starting point of this method is surely wrong, one thing I have learned in trading is that we should never discard any idea, no matter how crazy it may seem to us (perhaps we are discarding the Holy Grail and we don't know it: P).

Fundamental concepts

We now move on to define some of the most important concepts used in the methodology developed by ICT and that we will use throughout the following articles.

1. Order Blocks

Order Blocks are specific candles that, when properly analyzed in an institutional context, can highlight smart money buying and selling. In particular, we will say that:
  • A Bullish Order Block is the lowest candle that has a bearish close, that has the largest body (that is, the distance between the open and the close), and that is close to a Support level. The pattern is confirmed when the maximum of the candle that forms the Order Block is surpassed by a candle formed later, which closes above said maximum.
  • A Bearish Order Block is the highest candle that has a bullish close, that has the largest body (that is, the distance between the open and the close), and that is close to a Resistance level. The pattern will be confirmed when the minimum of the candle that forms the Order Block is pierced by a candle formed later, which closes below said minimum.
Graphically you can see in the following graph what a Bullish Order Block looks like (the bearish case would be the opposite):
https://preview.redd.it/nzdsr5azpr1d1.png?width=273&format=png&auto=webp&s=96a352636e93174212567279d9d5b74418574caa

2. Imbalance / Fair Value Gap

The Imbalance or Fair Value Gap (FVG) pattern is a clear sign of market imbalance. To identify this pattern, simply take sequences of three candles and look for wide-range candles that barely overlap the upper and lower wicks of adjacent candles. That is, there is a price range in that large candle that does not touch the range of the previous and subsequent candle , leaving a kind of gap called Fair Value Gap.
The size of this gap is obtained by measuring the distance between the maximum of the previous candle and the minimum of the subsequent one (bullish case), or the minimum of the previous candle and the maximum of the subsequent candle (bearish case).
In the following graph, you can see a schematic explanation of what an FVG looks like within a bearish movement:
https://preview.redd.it/sho820l1qr1d1.png?width=956&format=png&auto=webp&s=7de12836a101c240c887985a6c258f853123b088

3. Mitigation Block

In this case, we are dealing with market failure structures, in which the price fails to exceed a previously established maximum or minimum. In particular:
  • Bearish Mitigation Blocks are formed when the market forms a short-term resistance, then the price turns around marking a minimum and then turns upward again but fails to overcome the established highs, forming a new high below the resistance. Finally, the market breaks the intermediate low downwards, closing below said level. The candle that closes below this minimum is called Bearish Mitigation Block.
  • In the case of Bullish Mitigation Blocks , the market marks short-term support; The price then turns, marking a maximum and then falls again but fails to break the established minimums, forming a new minimum above the resistance. Finally, the market breaks the intermediate high upwards, closing above said level. The candle that closes above said maximum is called the Bullish Mitigation Block.
Graphically you can see a Bearish Mitigation Block schematically in the following figure:
https://preview.redd.it/j7e4vrv3qr1d1.png?width=513&format=png&auto=webp&s=f7ab92f4e5f25c580726e6d4a7854f4769855705

4. Liquidity Voids

This term, which we can translate as “liquidity gaps,” refers to explosive movements , generally broad and without pauses in a single direction, that occur after consolidation, and as a consequence of the lack of liquidity for a given address.
These types of long-term movements are usually “filled in” later , with the price making a reverse movement that sometimes even manages to reach the order block prior to the explosive movement.
In the following chart you can see an example of Liquidity Void in a bullish context:
https://preview.redd.it/8ymm2w26qr1d1.png?width=768&format=png&auto=webp&s=8b5f319229a6dd89fc951e69a6d91959cae82611

2024.05.21 14:00 swolgon Progressive House DJs and Producers at the University of Manchester

Hey everyone, my name is William, I'm 29 years old, and I recently moved from Los Angeles to Manchester to grow my channel Super Progressive. On my podcast, I've interviewed and built solid professional relationships with pioneering progressive DJs like Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Danny Tenaglia, Dave Seaman, and Danny Howells, as well as rising stars like Franky Wah and Yotto. With these relationships, I've become very well connected to various progressive record labels. You can check out my channel here: https://www.instagram.com/superprogressive/
Tony Wilson is my journalism hero and the reason I moved to Manchester, and in that spirit, I want to do all I can to help resurrect the progressive scene here in Manchester, and that starts with the city's youngest, up-and-coming talent. I want to promote student nights to platform talented artists who are just getting started, as well as introduce up-and-coming producers to labels they may want to release on. I've lived in this city for 6 months now, finally have my footing, have an enormous amount of pride in living here, and want to do all I can to help the next generation of progressive DJs and Producers in Manchester.
I figured this would be a good first step, please let me know anything about the underground scene here so I can best understand what the next best step forward would be. Thanks!

Questions

  1. Do I need to generate HTTPS certificates specifically for Home Assistant to work with the Cloudflare tunnel?
  2. Should I be adding an external URL in the Home Assistant configuration to rectify this?

2024.05.21 13:38 Jabaxaro How are storage\archives\0\ directories populated?

Over the past 5 years I've come to understand a few things about how Mozilla Firefox (current version 126.0 64bit) manages its profiles on my Windows file systems and especially what to keep in mind when using Roaming-Profiles within a Windows Domain.
The most common problem is the path length limitation which causes issues, generally within the \storage\default\ folder which I solved by forcing all my clients to clear their Offline Website Data for all pages on closing, excluding content for our own domain.
In the past two weeks however I noticed two users having the same issues as before with this configuration active and working.
Upon further inspection I see \storage\archives\0\yyyy-mm-dd\default\ folders with several dates and default folders with their full extent of saved Offline Website Data. Several of these folders had contents breaching the path length limitation.
Can someone explain to me how these folders are generated and/or can be prevented (via GPO or defaults.json)? My personal attempts to provoke it in my own profile didn't yield any results.

2024.05.21 13:24 stevestarr123 Retiring Traditional Linux Man Pages: Embracing Markdown with Command-Line Rendering

We're excited to announce a significant shift in our documentation approach: we're retiring traditional Linux man pages and replacing them with Markdown, which will be rendered directly from the command line. Additionally, we will convert all the man pages for the software included in the next generation of our Linux distributions.

Why Markdown Man Pages?

Pros of Markdown Man Pages:
  1. Readability and Formatting:
    • Markdown is inherently more readable and easier to write than the traditional roff format used in man pages.
    • It supports modern text formatting features like headers, lists, tables, links, and code blocks.
  2. Consistency and Portability:
    • Markdown is a widely-adopted standard used across various platforms and documentation systems, ensuring consistency.
    • Markdown files can be easily converted to other formats (HTML, PDF, etc.) using tools like Pandoc.
  3. Ease of Maintenance:
    • Markdown's simplicity reduces the learning curve for contributors, making it easier to maintain and update documentation.
    • Version control systems like Git work seamlessly with Markdown, facilitating collaborative editing and change tracking.
  4. Enhanced Viewing Options:
    • With a command-line renderer, users can view Markdown man pages in various styles and formats, enhancing the overall user experience.
    • Renderers can provide additional features such as syntax highlighting, clickable links, and even embedded media.
Cons of Traditional Man Pages:
  1. Complex Syntax:
    • The roff format used for traditional man pages is complex and unintuitive, making it harder for new contributors to write and edit documentation.
    • Formatting issues are common and can make man pages difficult to read and maintain.
  2. Limited Features:
    • Traditional man pages are limited in their formatting capabilities, lacking support for modern documentation features.
    • They do not support interactive elements or rich media, which can enhance the usability of documentation.
  3. Inconsistent Formatting:
    • The look and feel of man pages can vary significantly across different systems and viewers, leading to inconsistent user experiences.

Example

Here's a short example of a man page converted to Markdown:
Traditional Man Page:
roff .TH LS 1 "March 2024" "GNU Coreutils 8.32" "User Commands" .SH NAME ls \- list directory contents .SH SYNOPSIS .B ls [\fIOPTION\fR]... [\fIFILE\fR]... .SH DESCRIPTION .B ls list information about the FILEs (the current directory by default).
Markdown Man Page:
```markdown
ls - list directory contents
Synopsis
ls [OPTION]... [FILE]...
Description
ls lists information about the FILEs (the current directory by default).
Options
For more information, see the GNU Coreutils documentation. ```
Conclusion
We believe that transitioning to Markdown man pages will significantly enhance the quality and accessibility of our documentation. By embracing a modern, user-friendly format, we aim to provide a better experience for both contributors and end-users.
We'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this change! How do you feel about moving away from traditional man pages to Markdown?
My name is Vikesfan. I’m a third generation Vikings fan. My grandfather boughtseason tickets when the Vikings first got to Minneapolis in 1960. My dad was born in 63 and grew up watching the glory days.
He used to clean the stadium for tickets as a teenager with his friends.
I’ve been bleeding purple and gold since I was born. I know the UDFAs and Beat Writers by name. I may be the Vikings biggest fan.
My two year old learned to do the skol chant before he learned to talk. Some of his very first words were ‘go Vikes’.
We all live in Seattle now (we’re going to the game on 12/22) but we’re visiting the family this week.
I love the vikes so much I’m taking my son to see TCO performance and US Bank while we’re here.
If you all are looking for some super upbeat, high energy offseason content - the three of us would be more than willing to engage with your social team. :) just throwing it out there
For JJ -
Hello JJ. My grandfather was a Vikings season ticket holder in 1960 when the Vikes expanded.
My dad used to clean the stadiums in the 70s for tickets.
I was born a Vikes fan and I have bled purple and gold since the very beginning. I hardly have ever missed a game.
My kiddo is two and some of his first words were Skol and Go Vikes. He does the Skol Chant whenever he sees purple. ;)
We live in Seattle but are visiting family this week in Minneapolis. The night before our flight. I had a dream that my son and I got to meet you at TCO this week and tour the facility with you.
We love you and believe that you’re the guy to deliver us the Super Bowl. Go get em JJ. We have faith in you.
We were planning to do some drive bys of TCO Performance and US Bank stadium for kicks tomorrow morning. I’ll be rooting for you in OTAs this week.
Love you my fellow skoldiers
2024.05.21 13:02 Flyingpea777 Can't annotate on epub (Libra colour)
Hi all!
I have purchased a Metapen M1 and can annotate on kepubs purchased from the Kobo store, but cannot annotate on external epubs.
So far the epubs I rename by typing name.kepub.epub, copy and paste into the Kobo. I used to have a Libra (first generation) and I have done the same with folders, copied and pasted them into the Colour.
What should I do to be able to annotate on books purchased outside the Kobo store?
2024.05.21 12:59 Kanishkpincha Does CloudFormation lead to additional charges in free tier?
I have started learning DBT and someone recommended me to use redshift so i followed the documentation steps and created a stack using cloudFormation However i seem to have been charged for
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud NatGateway USD 0.09 $0.045 per NAT Gateway Hour 2 Hrs USD 0.09 Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud running Linux/UNIX USD 0.02 $0.023 per On Demand Linux t2.small Instance Hour 1.02 Hrs USD 0.02
I checked but no NAT gateways were active in any region. i Have already mailed for a waiver but would like to know how or why did this occur and how to prevent it. I would also like to know if there are any other things that i need to watch out for. Also do the default VPC's also charge? i seem to have one in all regions. I also have 6 subnets in my region and more than one in several regions. I have added an image for reference. the documentation i was referring is also linked below.
This is the documentation link: https://docs.getdbt.com/guides/redshift?step=2 This is the cloudFormation stack link we were given in the documentation: https://console.aws.amazon.com/cloudformation/home?region=us-east-1#/stacks/new?stackName=dbt-workshop&templateURL=https://tpch-sample-data.s3.amazonaws.com/create-dbtworkshop-infr
Welcome to my beta character AI! And what is my beta character AI?
https://preview.redd.it/lwxkhjorer1d1.jpg?width=968&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=adffb25262686bb687475b04624a4319e98cdcd9
History of my beta character AI!
My beta character AI is a a service that allows users to AI chat, including spicy AI chat, privately and securely with realistic AI personalities that can generate human-like text responses and participate in contextual conversations. Users can discover tons of generated ones on this site. My beta character AI uses neural language models to read huge amounts of text and respond to prompts using that information. It can be used for imagination, brainstorming, and language learning. It’s in beta (hence the name prefix) so please be patient!
It can be used for imagination, brainstorming, and language learning. Anyone can interact with a character on our site, and they can be fictional or based on real people. The site uses a neural language model to read huge amounts of text and respond to prompts using that information.
My beta character AI
My beta character AI allows users to chat with realistic AI personalities that hear and understand you. Users can discover tons of generated ones and enjoy unlimited free messaging with my site. That’s why I developed this beta character AI store!
Private, safe and secure
My beta character AI is completely private, safe and secure. Unlike other character AI services, we do not look at, monitor, monetize or train on your chats or data. We do not even store any of your data, so we couldn’t even we wanted to! And my beta character AI only runs on local servers! There’s no risk where all your spicy chats are leaked like when other companies have had data breaches.
Tap here for my beta character AI!
OpenSocialAI’s beta character AI versus Character AI comparison
My beta character AI is called OpenSocialAI beta character AI. Our competitor is called Character AI. OpenSocialAI costs less than a dollar a month—$0.99 per month—for a 1 year subscription ($11.99 per year) which is almost 90% less than Character AI’s paid subscription tier. However, OpenSocialAI primary feature is ultimate privacy. You can guarantee we will never look at, use or monetize any of your chats or training data. Character AI does offer a free tier. However, in general, AI companies typically train, sell, monitor your chats and training data. We cannot guarantee that Character AI monitors, looks at, trains or sells your chats and training data to either themselves or other companies because we do not work there.
2024.05.21 12:56 BlacksmithPristine88 I often get problem with raid or rarer other event not spawning on Cassandra but I never get any specify error i debug log, maybe someone with better knowledge could look at my debug log and my mod list and give some clou what is causing the problem
I don't know what I can do anymore, as i get the bug whit raid not spawning really often without any error or clue, I is hard to test whit different mod list because i take a long time to tested. Maybe there are some more obvious problem on my mod list that someone better informed cloud spot? if something i deleted my user folder and content folder on steam and download everything again.
2024.05.21 12:55 BlacksmithPristine88 I often get problem with raid or rarer other event not spawning on Cassandra but I never get any specify error i debug log, maybe someone with better knowledge could look at my debug log and my mod list and give some clou what is causing the problem
I don't know what I can do anymore, as i get the bug whit raid not spawning really often without any error or clue, I is hard to test whit different mod list because i take a long time to tested. Maybe there are some more obvious problem on my mod list that someone better informed cloud spot? if something i deleted my user folder and content folder on steam and download everything again.
Here my log
2024.05.21 12:53 Li_La_Lu log parsing
Trying to build regex for log parsing.
Given this log:
{"resource":{"attributes":{}},"scope":{"attributes":{}},"logRecord":{"attributes":{"log.file.name":"xxxx.log","log.file.path":"X:\\xxx\\xxxx.log"},"body":"1.1.1.1 - - [04/Ma2023:23:16:59 +0000] \"HEAD /xxxx-xxxxx%20systematic%20internet%20solution_xxx-xxx.png HTTP/1.1\" 200 1091 \"-\" \"Mozilla/5.0 (Windows 95) AppleWebKit/5361 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/36.0.849.0 Mobile Safari/5361\"","observedTimeUnixNano":1716203580594785300}}
I need to build a regex to extract the following fields: IP_ADDRESS - - [TIMESTAMP] “METHOD URL PROTOCOL” STATUS BYTES_SENT “REQUEST_TIME” “USER_AGENT”
I used this regex but there are 0 match. What am I doing wrong?
Regex: (?P\d+\.\d+\.\d+\.\d+) - - \[(?P[^\]]+)\] "(?P[A-Z]+) (?P[^ ]+) (?PHTTP/\d+\.\d+)" (?P\d+) (?P\d+) "(?P[^"]*)" "(?P[^"]+)"
2024.05.21 12:46 DigitalSplendid How to relate the keys extracted from the API into app.py and index.html
The output on the terminal as part of print statement shows:
{'ticker': 'MARA', 'price': '22.32', 'change_amount': '2.87', 'change_percentage': '14.7558%', 'volume': '65114509'}
So ticker, price, change_amount, change_percentage are keys.
Now, this is the current app.py:
from flask import Flask, render_template, request import requests from sqlalchemy import create_engine, Column, Integer, String, Float from sqlalchemy.ext.declarative import declarative_base from sqlalchemy.orm import sessionmaker # Configure Flask app app = Flask(__name__) # Configure database connection details (replace with your credentials) SQLALCHEMY_DATABASE_URI = 'sqlite:///mydatabase.db' engine = create_engine(SQLALCHEMY_DATABASE_URI) Base = declarative_base() # Define database model for storing stock data (optional) class StockPrice(Base): __tablename__ = "stock_prices" id = Column(Integer, primary_key=True) symbol = Column(String(10), nullable=False) price = Column(Float, nullable=False) def __repr__(self): return f"Stock(symbol='{self.symbol}', price={self.price})" # Create all tables (if they don't exist) Base.metadata.create_all(engine) # Create a database session for interacting with the database SessionLocal = sessionmaker(autocommit=False, autoflush=False, bind=engine) def get_top_movers(): """Fetches top gainers, losers, and most active tickers from Alpha Vantage API.""" api_key = 'V08DMK7LDDV3I7TO' # Replace with your actual Alpha Vantage API key url = f'https://www.alphavantage.co/query?function=TOP_GAINERS_LOSERS&apikey={api_key}' try: response = requests.get(url) response.raise_for_status() data = response.json() # Log the response data for debugging purposes print("API Response:", data) return data except requests.RequestException as e: print(f"Error retrieving top movers data: {e}") return None @app.route("/") def index(): top_movers = get_top_movers() gainers, losers, active = None, None, None if top_movers: gainers = top_movers.get("top_gainers", []) losers = top_movers.get("top_losers", []) active = top_movers.get("most_actively_traded", []) return render_template("index.html", gainers=gainers, losers=losers) if __name__ == "__main__": app.run(debug=True)
And this is index.html:
     Stock Price Checker    {% if gainers %}
Top Gainers
    {% for gainer in gainers %}
  • {{ gainer['Symbol'] }} ({{ gainer['Change Percent'] }})
  • {% endfor %}
{% elif losers %}
Top Losers
    {% for loser in losers %}
  • {{ loser['Symbol'] }} ({{ loser['Change Percent'] }})
  • {% endfor %}
{% else %}
Error retrieving top movers data.
{% endif %}
It is not clear how the four keys (ticker, price, change_amount, change_percentage ) retrieved from the API find their expression in app.py and index.html. Definitely the current code is incorrect with current output: https://www.canva.com/design/DAGF2owUng0/YYK-WYpZW4H5s2e5kTUPZg/edit?utm_content=DAGF2owUng0&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=sharebutton
An explanation of how to relate the keys extracted from the API into app.py and index.html would be helpful.
2024.05.21 12:44 loveonthedole Why Unai Emery is the Manager of the Season. And it's not only for his results on the pitch.
Hi folks, I do a bit of writing on the side but nobody fancied picking this up and it's going out of date fast. So I thought I'd share with the sub instead.
Why Unai Emery is the Manager of the Season. And it's not only for his results on the pitch.
On the opening day of the 2023/24 Premier League season, Aston Villa were battered 5-1 away to Newcastle in a match that saw defensive talisman Tyrone Mings suffer a similar season-ending injury to that of his teammate Emi Buendia, who had damaged his knee ligaments in training a few days earlier. Villa’s shiny new centre-back, Pau Torres, looked lightweight and twitchy as a replacement for Mings, with his dreamy blue eyes and expansive, continental passing range only serving to confirm pre-existing fears that he wasn’t cut out for the #PaceOfThePremierLeague. Buendia’s replacement, Philippe Coutinho, gave the least convincing cameo performance since Donald Trump turned up in Home Alone 2.
Sir Alex Ferguson praised the Villa performance regardless, saying they’d played fantastic football and had simply lost bad goals. The natural assumption was that he’d indulged in one too many complimentary sherries, perhaps having gotten lost in the excitement of a new Premier League season after a summer of watching steroid-ridden horses running around and around in a circle. I scoffed. Hell, we all did.
But it turns out there is life in the big red-nosed dog yet - because nine months and 38 matches later, Pau Torres is well en-route to becoming an Aston Villa cult hero and Lil’ Phil Coutinho has been all but forgotten, having spent the season out on loan to… some club, somewhere, presumably in the Middle East.
Back on English soil, Aston Villa have qualified for the Champions League - and we all owe Alex Ferguson an apology. Game, as the kids might still say, do indeed recognise game.
And nobody plays the game like Unai Emery. Not in this past season, at least.
Who else could remain so stoic in the face of not two, but three first-team ACL injuries and a seemingly endless succession of unshakeable niggles to the likes of Jacob Ramsey, Alex Moreno and Youri Tielemans? Not Mauricio Pochettino, who cried it was not fair to judge his Chelsea team in the midst of an injury crisis; nor even Erik Ten Hag, who likened his attempts to improve an injury-stricken team to swimming with your hands behind your back - not easily done, by the looks of things, despite being blessed with a natural, ready-made swimming cap.
Excuses are not my mentality, said Emery back in March. I am usually not speaking about ‘if’. We just have to play. We have to accept each result and enjoy each moment. My objective is to send the same message to players and supporters — enjoy.
And us supporters certainly did enjoy it. We enjoyed reducing Manchester City to just two shots across ninety minutes, enjoyed doing the double over Arsenal without conceding a goal, enjoyed the curing of Ollie Watkins’ goalscoring yips and the long overdue presence of Ezri Konsa in the England squad, the rapid ascension of a team that Steven Gerrard had ambling towards the relegation zone, onwards and upwards not only into the Champions League, but also into our first European semi-final in a generation.
So what if it was only the Conference League? And if a 6-2 defeat on aggregate against Olympiakos was a little embarrassing? If the player who scored a hat-trick in the first leg had only recently returned from a stint in Qatar?
Emery’s squad were running on fumes by then. They’d just seen their goalkeeper receive two yellow cards and not get sent off - they were hallucinating, exhausted. In the words of their captain John McGinn, they were half men. And somehow that’s not even a reference to the ever-changing array of regens, schoolboys and teenagers who filled out the matchday squads towards the season’s end, stinking out the Aston Villa bench like they were passing around a joint at the bus stop.
Of the ten players to have played the most matches across elite European football this season, five of them wore claret and blue (and not a single one of them played for Burnley, although Jarrod Bowen did put in a shift for West Ham). Even the players who were fit were often unavailable through suspension: John McGinn got himself sent off for a shoulder barge against Spurs, only to be outdone a few matches later by the ever-competitive Douglas Luiz, who successfully tallied up ten progressively avoidable yellow cards in time to miss a crucial match against Arsenal at The Emirates.
Of course, supporters of every club will feel that they have attracted the worst luck, endured the most adversity. But I want to highlight Villa’s woes here because neither the likes of Sky Sports or even Emery himself can be relied upon to do so. Out of context, his achievements at Aston Villa are commendable. In context, they become almost astonishing.
It is the sensible decision that he will be named as the Premier League’s Manager of the Season. Arteta’s Arsenal have improved, put up a good fight; Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have managed to turn the record-breaking into the mundane. And yes, Gary O’Neil is English. But nobody has upset the odds as comprehensively, with as much class, as much commitment as Emery has. He has developed a “no excuse” culture amongst the squad at Aston Villa and in return they have delivered a season for which no excuses are necessary.
I’d hope that he’d sit back now and enjoy the surely-inevitable plaudits. For those of us who’ve been watching closely though, we know that’s not quite his style.
If you enjoyed my writing there's a whole book of it available here! Winner Stays On: England with The FA Cup for a Compass
Cheers.
2024.05.21 12:35 ManonFire63 Identity Politics and the Soul Part I
Christians are to love The Lord their God with all their Heart and Soul and Strength and Mind. This is the basis of Christianity. What does it mean to love God with your soul? What is the soul? Soul has a lot to do with identity. I would like to talk about identity politics; however, there is a learning curve. Someone may need to understand The Soul.
Discovering The Soul
When someone is talking about The Soul, which Soul are they referencing? Plato and The Soul? Abstract Philosophy God and the Soul? The Bible, and how The Bible references The Soul? Working to explain The Soul and The Bible, I have worked to do so in a way that your average person may be able to understand, and find or feel their soul. He are starting with a perception, we postulate that the Soul is a person, and has to do with decision making and identity, and given scripture, and various media or cultural references of The Soul, we may be able to see if we are right, and a bigger picture.
Given you understand what The Soul is in the Bible, someone may begin to understand exorcism. They may understand Identity Politics, and what it actually is in spiritual warfare. They may come out with greater understanding of creation and God.
The Basis of Christianity
Song to Preface this: Heuy Lewis "Heart and Soul."
What is a Soul? A soul is a person. Given a The King of Salem had 50 Souls, he had fifty persons or servants. How did they identify themselves? Possibly as a servant of The King of Salem in some way. Loving The Lord with all your SOUL, may have to do with identity. Who was someone serving? Was someone a Servant of "Something Else" or a Servant of God? A child of God? A son of God? These may be good things to be as a Christian looking to love God with your Soul or identity.
A couple years ago I lived in walking distance from Duke University. Given someone was a Duke fan, or Duke Alumni, or had a lot of Duke Paraphernalia, they may have loved Duke University. How did they love Duke University? They loved Duke with their Soul or Identity. Someone with a Duke T-Shirt may be saying something about who he is, or was, or would like to be. When Duke wins or has done well in basketball, someone who loved Duke with their Soul or identity, they may have rejoiced? They felt good? In their soul, they rejoice, and feel a sense of happiness. That is where the soul is. Given anyone has been a sports fan at some point, and has identified as a fan of ___________ their soul rejoices when their team does well. Given I was to look up Soul in a Bible concordance, there are many of these feeling or sensing type verses where the soul is a place inside someone where there is passion. Someone loving God with Their Soul in a world of materialism and commercialism may have given up their Nike and Adidas, to be more as "Plain as John the Baptist?"
Given a musician signed a record contract, and said record contract was very strict, did said musician "Sell their Soul?" Given a musician has to sing all the songs said record company tells them to, and be at A or B place at a certain time, as said record company tells them to, and said musician has very little free will, would that be "Selling The Soul?" Given the record company was a servant of "The Purple Gang," or Kabbalists, or some other group not serving God, that may have been someone selling their soul to the devil? When we get the basics of what the Bible describes the Soul to be, there are a lot of interesting topics that come up. The Truth hurts. Knowledge brings sorrow. Ignorance is bliss? Their is freedom in The Lord.
The Soul and Identity.
True Statements:
Marriage has been an important part of The Bible and Faith and growing in understanding.
Woman is meek before her husband. Man is meek before God. A woman loving her husband with her heart and soul may have taken his name. She is forging a new identity as Mrs. _____________. A married woman with a hyphenated last name is one foot in, one foot out? Who or what does she love more? Her husband or Feminism? Maybe she didn't quite want to leave her family and her old identity behind as a single female or "Daughter of?" Feminists tend towards socialism. Is a woman really married to her husband or more married to The State? Woman is meek before her husband. A man is meek before God.
Looking at the Soul like this, someone may be able to see God. (And Satan.) The Truth hurts. Knowledge brings sorrow. Ignorance is bliss?
Spirits
Given we are coming into an understanding of The Soul, what are Spirits? Spirits effect motivations. Here is a short list of some spirits mentioned.
What are these Spirits doing? They are influencing. They are effecting motivations. Someone with a seducing spirit or spirit of prostitution may have been on tinder in the wrong way? Someone with a lying tongue may have been a habitual liar? Someone with one of these spirits, their character may have been molded a certain way. Their soul, who they are, may have been molded to something. Part of their identity, even if it was subconscious, may have been molded to something. Some Spirits are generational. They may have been passed down from Generation to Generation. There may have been generational curses on some families. (Deuteronomy 5:9) Some spirits someone may have picked up by being in sin, and being unrepentant. Someone's Soul or character may have been molded around something.
Given someone has God's Holy Spirit, they say "Jesus is Lord." They may tend to think about God, and talk about God a lot, and be prone to God-centric activities. Their Soul, and God's Holy Spirit, overtime, may have entwined. They are "One with God" leading towards an understanding of Theosis.
