But you’ll find that there are many scenarios like that. Of course, bugs aren’t necessarily the worst of it. For example, essence from beaver anal glands is responsible for some vanilla, strawberry or raspberry flavors in foods like ice-cream.
So perhaps should make law go to more than just bugs. But the question is whether we would find foods as pretty or delicious afterward if removed.
Anyway, back to hypothetical situation. If you had the power to write and enforce laws, would you prohibit these ingredients or leave them alone?

Today was a good day.
Have I had a few cravings? Yes. But they were mild, fleeting thoughts. The "worst" required I take a little walk around the lake and called my husband to pass the time. I don't know how long the craving lasted but I'd forgotten all about it before I was halfway around.
Have I eaten too much candy? NO. I've had 2 pieces of gum and four hard candies all day. No upset tummy for me tonight.

I (14m) have a mom (43f) who constantly feels like she can't trust me. She's strict and demands to know my phone's password. She is also nosy at times, one time she asked for my phone to Google something, and after a short while, I caught her going through my WhatsApp conversations! I changed my password because I felt it was a violation of my privacy. After all, she told me she was using it to google something. When she found out I changed my password her exact words were: “If you don't want a phone just say that”. I have shown her on multiple occasions that I'm trustworthy, and she has shown me that she doesn't trust me. I might sound like someone who has something to hide and you are right, I have private conversations with people who tell me about their problems and secrets, if she were to see that it would be a violation of that person's privacy as they told me that information in confidence. I'm a huge believer that privacy is a thing but shouldn't be taken for granted.
She also thinks I'm addicted to my phone as I'm always on it, this has led to her taking my phone on multiple occasions. Sometimes for the day or the week. I've expressed that I didn't appreciate the fact that she doesn't trust me and she just brushes it off and gaslights me about how I'm always on my phone and in front of the TV all the time (I'm an only child so I'm on my phone/ TV for entertainment/socializing since I have no one to talk to). Nevertheless, I'm always painted as a “gadget addict”, sometimes it would get so bad that she would start commenting on how my phone controls my every move, and that I shouldn’t have a relationship with my phone. This to me is funny because she is FOREVER on her phone. If it’s not for work then it’s for talking to friends/family if it’s not that then it’s going on Instagram (which she uses the most by the way), if it’s not that then it’s her playing Candy Crush nonstop. I do admit that I can get distracted because of my phone, but I have tried to do better and exercise discipline.
So today I came home from school tired and went to my room to change. I remember getting home at about 14:00. I’m on my phone just talking and playing games (I know this sounds bad), then my mom asks me what I’m still doing and I say I’m changing (which I was), she tells me I’ve been in there for an hour, but I check the time and it’s only 14:21. I didn’t want to say anything because I know how stubborn she can be. I quickly changed and she asked when I was going to study (it's exam season), I told her I was going to chill for a bit and then study and she was okay with that. After I study for 2 hours and take a break. I took the time to eat dinner, watch some wedding drama videos, and relax. I was supposed to study at 19:00 but I lost track of time because the wedding tea was too good. She walks in and asks me what I’m doing because I’m supposed to be studying. I’m shocked but then I look at the time and see that it’s 19:34! I’m loss for words because I had lost track of time, she proceeded to ask for my phone, I tried to fight it but I caved and gave it to her. She then told me that she was going to give it back after my exams (which are four weeks long!!). I felt that it was a lot because I made a simple mistake. She said that my phone disturbs me, I asked how and she referenced what happened when I came back from school. I tried to get my phone back by countering the fact that it was a mistake and I just lost track of time. She then told me that I didn’t see the fact that my phone disturbs me, I then asked how and she referenced what happened earlier WORD FOR WORD. That’s when I knew that she didn’t have anything else to back her story with, but she’s my parent so I had to submit. One hour later I came out of my room telling her that I’d studied and that I would like my phone back please, she told me that my DAD(43) had it, saying he would give it to me when the time was right because my phone disturbs me. Knowing him I’ll get it when my exams are over, I pleaded with my mother to at least charge on my bedside table at night when she was going to sleep, she said she would but I’m skeptical because 1. I don’t know if I should trust her and 2. My dad might not let her. In her defense, I should’ve been more attentive and just studied like I said, but I feel it was a common mistake to lose track of time. (By the way, I LOVE your videos, huge fan💕)

2024.05.21 20:00 marieantoilette How to avoid worsening CFS if getting flu/covid is bad and your friends are working in close contact jobs like kindergarden? I'm starting to be paranoid to even meet friends with a minor cold.
I'm 25, biologically male. It's not yet entirely certain that I have CFS, mind you. But after a mild(ish) case of covid early January I have suddenly had a few crashes multiple times after feeling "like I'm fit again", even when just seeing some friends for a few hours. I also have autism and already experienced post covid symptoms last year for three months where I couldn't walk without pain anymore, never explained. Autism also increases the risk of long covid, so I guess that's why I got the double whammy inspite of two very mild infections. Now, assuming I have CFS.
TL;DR at the end, the next two paragraphs are some basic ranting of a newbie here. But my biggest question is the final paragraph.
[You can skip my personal history, but some rant: Now too much screen time gives me a headache, and when I get overly excited during a good phase I'm all gucci until I lie down for a second and my body allows me to, well, crash. This is not foreign to me as autist but has never been so bad in my life, not to mention lasting longer than a day or two. It takes so long to get better. Realized something was off when I crashed after every dentist visit (bad teeth due to depression as a teenager x)). I don't experience muscle aches though, no brain fog. Just headache when too much screen time, severe fatigue for a week when, say, making the mistake to go big shopping and cooking the same day. I have however travelled 500 kilometres with a train to meet my long-distance partner (:c) and while I was a bit fatigued, it was okay by being vigilant and not do much. I'm nigh always wearing ear protection and sunglasses outside now because that is stressful to me. Driving a car too long gives me a headache too. Everything works on its own, but if I do too much one day, I'll get it coming. Headaches and body fatigue seem to come independently from one another, at least.]
t's been over four months now and I'm very worried. Maybe it's not CFS, but for some peace of mind let's assume for this question that it is. I am good at accepting things that I can't control. But I don't want the pain to get worse. I have lost a lot of weight in these past months because of lack of exercise (which in my case is not good because I'm very slim) but exercise also seems to be unadvisable. What triggers worsening the condition is what I'm trying to learn right now. Minor fatigue or bad crashes and then just keep going, like having a broken foot that will heal, but not if you stubbornly keep walking with it? Or is any crash a risk?
TL;DR: Now if every covid infection is according to some statistics associated with a higher risk of post covid (of any kind), that seems like a grandiose fatalist fact to me. Because is one to avoid that? Should I never leave my house again? (Hyperbole.. or... shouldn't I?) I have read how severe CFS looks and while I am absolutely unable to work, at all, thankfully I live in a country that helps me out with the minimum (paid flat and some change for food). That's all fine and dandy, but every year, one risks to catch a cold. This cold may very well be covid. In fact, in my experience this has been unavoidable every year, I have been infected with covid a couple of times. My friends are all working in kindergardens or as ergotherapists and if there's something out there, they'll probably get it. Not to mention some of them like to party. I don't want to lose these friends though. Then I'm really all alone.
Are we to gamble never to get covid, or any upcoming virus, ever? Vaccinations, sure, but I'm just asking, realistically, what are the odds? Probably this is a "welcome to being a risk patient" situation, but with 25 I have plenty of years to utterly crash since every single case of flu/covid risks me getting worse, so how am I supposed to not just expect that to happen? I'm very scared. Thanks for any advise.

- You earned the right to be here. You’ve proven you can do it so don’t doubt yourself.
- You’re not expected to know everything on day 1. Your job is to show up with a good attitude and ready to work hard.
- Listen to the nurses. Some of these critical care nurses, especially. Ask for their input and don’t brush them off as mere nurses.
- Write things down. Print a list and make check boxes by each patient for what needs to get done that day. There are interns who forget things and interns who write things down.
- The first thing you need to learn is to tell sick from not sick, and that can be tricky at times. Later on you refine that until you see a whole spectrum of how sick a patient is.
- Don’t waste too much time pre-rounding. Brief pertinent exam, ask patient about changes in symptoms, but the highest yield is asking the nurses.
- Call consults before noon if you can. It’s a courtesy to the consultant/their team plus they’re far more likely to be seen that day, avoiding a delay in workup for the patient.
- Your note doesn’t have to be an essay. Keep things simple and don’t get bogged down in eloquent explanations.
- However, document your reasoning well. Especially in tough cases, drop a paragraph about why you’re doing what you’re doing and the patient agrees.
- Auto text or whatever your EMR uses. Make an arsenal of these. Use them for everything. If you have a kind of case you see a lot, template out a note so you make sure you’re documenting all the important stuff in an efficient manner.
- Be cool to your co-interns. Y’all are about to spend the next few years together. Don’t leave them in a lurch or punt to others all the time.
- Call the seniofellow/attending, especially at first. Even if they give you attitude, it’s ultimately their responsibility and they should know that.
- Try to update families daily if you can, especially for your ICU folks.
- Never, ever lie. Even once will destroy your credibility.
- Have a good attitude in a way that refuses to be bullied - don’t take that shit.
- Read all your own images. Then when rads drops a report, read that and see if you can find what they’re describing for every notes finding. It’ll make you a better doctor.
- Get to your new city as early as possible. Do things like car inspection, dentist appointment, vet appointment, etc. before July kicks off.
- Our profession has a high rate of substance abuse. Do what that what you will.
- Sit down with your family and SO and let them know what to expect and try to explain how intense this job is. When there’s a difference between expectation and reality, you have problems. Either way, it’ll strain your relationships.
- Because of this, be deliberate on spending time with your SO/friends/family even if you’re dead tired.
- Wear comfortable shoes
- Scour the hospital for the best restroom. Sometimes having a proper relaxed shit can turn a day around.
- Get to know your chiefs. Go to them with problems earlier rather than later.
- Use every minute of PTO
- Step outside the hospital for a few minute a day when you can. See the sunshine.
- Make friends with the cafeteria staff and they’ll hook you up to no end.
- Make friends with the transporters and techs - they will save you.
- Appreciate the hell out of what PT/OT/SLP do.
- Know how to tell a patient no.
- Pharmacy is your friend - they know things
- If something is emergent, keep calling to follow up. If your crashing patient needs abx, it’s not like some doctor video game where you put the order in STAT and everyone goes rushing. Call down and check the status, let them know it’s needed now.
- Don’t order everything STAT
- Calling people in general gets so much more done and avoids so many headaches.
- You’re going to lose your first patient. Remember how you feel, and make sure you never forget it. You’ll need it later.
- Hang out outside of work, invite the nurses as well.
- Election ‘24 is coming up in November so work is a great place to talk candidly about politics and try to change others’ beliefs /s
- If you’re struggling, reach out to someone.
- Try to get outside on your days off
- It’s not uncommon to end up on an SSRI
- Take the stairs places as much as you can. Cardio and a nice lower body workout.
- Answer pages as they come in. Anything STAT call back the moment you see it. Aim to get back to everyone within 5 minutes if you can.
- Day to night nurse shift change. Wait 30-45 minutes, then go around and talk to the nurse for all your patients. Let them get report and see if they have questions. Explain the plan, agree on when to call you, make sure orders all look good and make sense. We even used to bring candy from the physicians lounge to pass out for this.
- Put the diet order in
- Keep your presentations short and to the point unless someone wants them longer. Know the details, but you don’t have to recite them. You don’t have to say all the exam findings that were normal and not related to the patient’s disease
- Always be prepared to dodge a punch when near a geriatric patient
- Even a 5-10 minute phone call with your loved ones on a frequent basis can do wonders
- Some people are just assholes and you can’t take things personally
- Other people are mad at something else and want to take it out on you.
- Be cool to the med students
- Get good at delivering bad news
- Celebrate delivering good news
- Fuck prior authorizations man
- When calling a consult, have a specific clinical question you need help answering. Know the patient well. Keep the call centered around what you need from them but be ready to provide details if needed. “Dr. X wants you on board” is resident code for “I know it’s bullshit but my attending made me call.”
- Delirium and sundowning are real af. The trick is to get them home.
- Benzos aren’t just “settle down” drugs. It’s like a whisky shot through the vein in the sense that it can also disinhibit people and make wildness worse
- Get to know 1 thing about each patient other than what’s in their chart. What job did they have? What’s their favorite team? Do they have pets? You’ll remember them better when the list is large and it can make the job more rewarding
- If the nurse is worried ALWAYS go to bedside
- If you feel the urge to get a tattoo, do it
- Read everyone’s note each day on your patients
- Case managers and social workers are heroes. Get to know them and work together to get patients proper dispo
- Don’t wear your damn shoes in the call room bed
- Sit down in patient rooms if you can. It shows you’re listening, it’s less intimidating for them, and they’ll tell you more.
- Talk louder to older patients
- Sternal rub like you mean it
- Sit done one day, caffeinate, and do all those stupid compliance modules in a single bolus.
- Never make the same mistake twice
- If things don’t add up, your math is wrong
- Some patients don’t care about their health and won’t look after it after all you do. That’s just the gig.
- If something adverse for residents goes into place on a “temporary” basis, it never goes back the other way. Fight for your rights.
- You’re not crazy - the patient always tells the attending something completely different or remembers some important detail. We get it.
- Have a good comfort show to stream when you come home half dead.
- Trust but verify (that’s actually a Russian proverb Reagan borrowed when speaking about the USSR)
- Remember to love it more than you hate it. Find a way to make it fun. They say it’s the best time you never want to have again. You get to save and improve human lives. There’s no greater calling in the world than that.

My wife and I went to a Fathom events screening of an old movie last night. In front of us were two couples, which seemed to have come as a group. As soon as the movie started, one woman in the group started aggressively scrolling on her phone. Just constantly flipping between Instagram, Discord, and Twitter, every 30 seconds. Occasionally she'd try to watch the movie, but wouldn't look at the screen for more than a few minutes before looking at her phone again.
Her phone wasn't visible to everyone, but I couldn't help but see it in my peripheral. By the final act of the film, I was fuming. I told my wife I was going to say something. My wife tried to convince me to just switch seats, but I wanted to make a statement. I tapped the woman's seat, snapped my fingers, and whispered at her to turn it off. She immediately shouted, "Fuck you!" pretty loudly, and switched to candy crush.
I got angrier and couldn't let it go, so I went to go get a manager. He asked her to leave the theater, and I went back to my seat. Five minutes later, she came back into the theater and leaned over her chair to shout for the whole room to hear "I hope you know, daddy manager wasn't too happy that you were hitting my chair!". I guess she went out there and told the manager I'd been harassing her. Probably denied being a nuisance. A couple folks hissed at her to be quiet. I just sat there, embarrassed.
I was surprised to see that her date was encouraging her. He made a big show of laying his head on her shoulder, and patting her arm like "You did the right thing".
After the movie, she thankfully left without saying anything else. The person behind us reassured me that she'd been bothering them too, which made me feel a little better. But we still waited until the room was empty to leave.
My wife was nice about it, but mentioned I could have maybe handled it better. If someone's being that inconsiderate, nothing you say is going to get through to them. It really wasn't worth it, and I ruined my own date.
Now that it's over I really don't know what to feel. Angry at myself, I guess. Angry at her. Angry that somehow the best outcome would have been to accept defeat and go sit in the back. Angry that folks don't respect the theater going experience anymore. Whole thing sucks
Tl:Dr - girl had her phone on during a movie. Got mad and told her off. She blew up and played victim to the theater manager. Feels like I made a bad situation worse by getting involved, and my poor wife had to just sit there while I started beef with a stranger.

I guess she went out there and told the manager I'd been harassing her. Probably denied being a nuisance. A couple folks hissed at her to be quiet. I just sat there, embarrassed.
I was surprised to see that her date was encouraging her. He made a big show of laying his head on her shoulder, and patting her arm like "You did the right thing".
After the movie, she thankfully left without saying anything else. The person behind us reassured me that she'd been bothering them too, which made me feel a little better. But we still waited until the room was empty to leave.
My wife was nice about it, but mentioned I could have maybe handled it better. If someone's being that inconsiderate, nothing you say is going to get through to them. It really wasn't worth it, and I ruined my own date.
Now that it's over I really don't know what to feel. Angry at myself, I guess. Angry at her. Angry that somehow the best outcome would have been to accept defeat and go sit in the back. Angry that folks don't respect the theater going experience anymore. Whole thing sucks
Tl:Dr - girl had her phone on during a movie. Got mad and told her off. She blew up and played victim to the theater manager. Feels like I made a bad situation worse by getting involved, and my poor wife had to just sit there while I started beef with a stranger.

My son is 17 and is suffering from depression. I try my best to be compassionate and understanding, but it is really hard when he blames me for everything when he's really just being self destructive. For example, he will not eat for two days except 4 bags of candy. Then he will complain that he feels like garbage. I will cook dinner, but the entire time, he will be ranting at me in the kitchen that I don't listen to him and I don't love him and I'm a terrible mother, and on and on and on.
I try to stay neutral and not get defensive, because, again, I know those things aren't true. But if I said something like, "have some dinner, it will help," he just says, "no it won't. Nothing will help. You don't understand. You can't understand. You just want to watch tv all day. You love tv more than me." Etc. By the way, I only watch one episode of tv a day after work and pause it whenever he tries to talk to me so I can hear him.
Anyway, he has no boundaries, is always making a mess, is always in my room while I'm at work because it is clean and pleasant and his is disgusting and dark and smelly, takes my things without asking, breaks things due to carelessness or losing his temper, and doesn't go to school more than a few days a month.
I'm so tired of watching him create 80% of his own problems and refuse to try anything that might help his chemical imbalance that I've lost compassion for him. He is so stubborn. Refuses treatment. Refuses therapy. Refuses food/sleep/hygiene/exercise/socializing, etc. He did 5 months in Residential Treatment in an incredibly good program that wasn't mean or like juvy at all. But he just considers it me "locking him up" and is traumatized by it.
I woke him this morning to try to get him to eat and take his medication and he tucked his head under his blanket and looked so sweet like a little boy and my heart broke. I am so resentful of him and often times passive aggressive and I wish I could just be kind and soft and caring, but he is so mean and, outwardly, it doesn't seem like he cares about me or himself or literally anything. It is so hard.
How can I be kind and understanding when he is mean, insulting, accusatory, gaslighting, bitter, and has zero ability to respect my boundaries? (I just put a lock on my bedroom door to keep him out while I'm at work so that's helping.)

I want to preface this by noting that this is a ramble. I have a lot of thoughts, this is probably too many unnecessary details but at this point that’s one of the things Im struggling with as a (SAH) parent of a little with T1D.
So my daughter was diagnosed June of last year when she was still 3. It’s been a crazy journey, and while I’m grateful we haven’t had to deal with any life threatening incidences since her first DKA and diagnosis I can’t help but worry about her sugar all day, every day.
She’s on MDI, we’re doing a pump class next month (a requirement before her endo will approve), just recently changed her long acting and was seeing improvement in her glucose—but now it feels like we’re back to the beginning somehow?
She’s had so many days where she’s above 200. When I looked at her libre 3 ‘time in ranges,’ she was for the longest only ‘in range’ 38% of the time, any other time was way above. However, a few weeks ago (around the beginning of the month) I played around with her breakfast ratio and it seemed as if I found the ratio that REALLY worked for her—and then two days later she had her endo appointment and they changed her long acting because her sugar was going over 350 3-4 hours after eating lunch. For the first two weeks of this month she went from being in range 38% of the time to 67% of the time! It was so… great? But for the last week, she’s been pushing back into the 300s.
Now, one of the things that makes me feel like a helicopter parent: since she’s only 4 (5 in July ), I prefer to check her sugar myself and do all of her injections myself—one of the reasons being that I’ve noticed during this year that when my husband does her injections her glucose levels are even worse (there was one incident —early weeks of diagnosis— where he didn’t even inject her, the medicine literally sat on her skin and she was about to eat). Recently my little one tried to (very quickly) help me set up her needle and she bent the needle that goes into the pen (unbeknownst to me), and I tried to prime it like 3 times and I thought the pen broke. When i went to disassemble it to toss it was when I noticed the bent needle. Tried again with new one, went to prime and sooo much insulin came out, like there was so much pressure. It was an extremely stressful morning, and I no longer wanted her to help me get her medicine ready.
She knows how to check her sugar, but when it comes to cleaning her finger really well, she does not do a good job and I go behind her and recheck when the number from her test comes back 40+ different from her CGM.
Since she has a libre 3, her cgm is connected to my phone. We have a reader, have not yet used it because my phone stays in her room over night to be within range of her while I have it also connected to my iPad. When she goes low, she doesn’t wake up with the device blaring right next to her—but the notifications coming to my iPad inform me to check her.
I’m at a point where I’m…lost. She doesn’t seem to fully grasp certain parts of this journey? Should I make her check herself throughout the day until she gets the hang of that first? When should I let her give herself medicine (this part scares the ever loving life out of me because I’m terrified she’ll over do it and not want to drink/eat something to fix it because she’s full or something)?
And since she’s turning 5, she ought to be going to school in autumn—but I’m so unbelievably terrified because we live in a small town and it feels like so many people are ignorant to type 1 and assume it’s type 2. I plan to homeschool, but with her attention span I know it’s going to be difficult. But teachers mindlessly hand out candy, and while not everyone has diabetes, I know it’s going to be another crap experience for her because she was dealt a shitty hand. I even struggle with the judgment when we’re at the store trying to check out and she throws a fit for one of those gourmet lollipops that don’t have the carbs listed on it and there’s no guarantee she’s even going to finish it. When I say no, people just look at me like “what a bad mom, let that baby have a lollipop.”
I don’t restrict her diet. If she wants a piece of chocolate or cookie, or whatever: she can have it— if it’s more than 5carbs, I make her understand she has to have medicine for it. She’s a kid. She loves carbs, all the bread, noodles, desserts—I’m trying to do everything right for her.
She’s a kid, she should have all those experiences and privileges allotted to kids—but how am I to navigated this without dictating every single moment of her life?

Ranking all dimension 20 seasons Some explanations for choices I think might be controversial.
Coffin run: I got 3 episodes in and realized it just wasn't for me. I really like jasmine's a dm but I didn't enjoy the setting and story that much.
A crown of candy: After lapin and Jet died I think the season just wasn't as good to me. Zacs new character just wasn't as impactful, I didn't like how Saccarina was treated and the whole dynamic with her and everyone else. Characters dying in the middle of something like critical role sure, cos we still have time to flesh out new characters, in a short campaign doesn't work as well in my opinion. Also I'm not a game of thrones fan.
Misfits and magic: I enjoyed this when I first watched it but looking back I realized evan took alot of focus and I just never liked him that much to be honest. Didn't find anything regarding him not being aware of how sad his life was funny, didn't like that k never really seemed to understand how much they were low key fetishizing him and then they became a couple without it truly being adressed, really liked jammer and Sam but they didn't have much of an arc. Didn't really understand Evans whole deal with his shadow, like that whole thing wasn't fleshed out enough. It wasn't bad and Abbria is ny favourite dm but looking back I can't really say I liked the season. (Despite all that I really like the Christmas special alot and the live show.)

Last night was a crazy ensemble of mystery, magic, lively characters, pure luxury high class dreaming, attention to detail you normally only see in the fanciest of places! And it all started very normal. Let's dive into the dream space!
I am standing on a platform at train station Haarlem Centraal, Netherlands. Trains came and went. When I look around, I see people standing, waiting to catch the next train. Looking up, a digital sign said: “Groningen”. The next train went to Groningen, it actually sounds pretty nice, so I wanted to go there.
As I'm reaching into my left pocket, I notice I have my phone with me. I turned it on, and it was open on the Contacts app. On the top of the list, there was a peculiar person I never heard of before: Ben. I decided to give Ben a call.
A robotic voice made itself audible on the speaker. The robotic voice said: “Hi, I'm Ben! A dream AI. I can change any dream for you just the way you like it.”
“Anything?”, I ask. “We do anything for our customers. Your deepest desires, your wildest wishes and your greatest adventures come true. With Ben, you are 100% in control”.
Eager to test that theory, realizing as I was getting lucid — I'm not just anybody! I'm not going to stand here and wait for public transport like normal citizens do! I want a private train!
And so I speak my wishes in a clear English voice to Ben on my phone. No reply. Ben wasn't saying a word.
But something is changing… Looking up at the sign, it starts to flicker, as if someone is hacking into the sign in my dream, and quickly, the sign updated, saying: “Do not board — Private train”.
Not long after, I hear the train rolling into view — and my dragons — was it a marvel to behold, easily 100 cars long. The entire exterior is a silvery white train with red stripes on it. The red stripes are made from precisely cut ruby that is so thin and so flat that it surprises me it doesn't chip or crack. Surrounding the ruby stripes was chrome lining that holds everything together.
It looks shiny and beautiful, modern yet classical, drawing its inspiration from late 80s diners in the United States, along with Sci-fi elements from “Snowpiercer” and “Hunger Games — Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”.
What really strikes me at this point is that, this all feels man-made. Engineered. My fantasy doesn't extend to these exquisite tastes without much research beforehand. And yet, that initial fear of the unknown made it all the more tantalizing to step in and roll the fast-lane of the dream world.
The car at the front opens its door, and to my surprise, nobody of the crowd steps in, automatically obeying what the sign says. In a split second, Ben had changed the normal aesthetic of a public train station into a capitalist class-divided private railroad for the ultra-rich to get their own private trains. In real life I'd hate this, but now I couldn't care less!
I got inside the train at the front, just before the conductors' car. The first cabin is relatively simple. It has a few chairs, tables that's it. Nothing too shabby. Each car has the same silvery white colour as the exterior, separated by red doors, mimicking the ruby stripes.
For the first time since my command, the AI spoke again: it said the train would be departing soon, but that I'm allowed to explore the train as I wish.
So, I go into the next car — and this one is a freaking tennis court! It was absolutely insane. There even is a small place for people to watch the game!
I walk into the next car — this seems to be a little restaurant, and quickly becoming my favourite car!
Stockpiles of candy and snacks and everything laid for people to grab for free!
There are Maltesers, Snickers, Bounty, and variations of it all!
Sitting on the floor (as the cabin where the candy was held was quite low), I start munching on everything. And I mean, everything!
I started eating the whole supply, there is even white Maltesers, and oh my god, they tasted so good.
Throughout this feast, I keep thinking of how grateful I am that it feels so real, the taste, the crunch, the feeling of getting full… My synapses are firing like crazy at this point to make this taste so real.
After the entire bar is emptied, and I feel almost like puking, I walk into the next car, this one is a literal petting zoo! It has a cow behind a small fence, and some chicken above in a cage.
It was an absolute monster of a train, and it just kept going, and going, and going! Everything stayed so consistent. I could always find my way back to the first cabin and I could even look at the screens inside the train and see how fast we are going.
I could look outside and see biomes consistent of that with the Netherlands… But something happened along the way. The more and more I drove towards Groningen. I started noticing that there are other people around, too.
First just a few, but later on, it starts to become more and more. And I began to ask myself: Where do these people come from?
This was intense and at this point I am a little annoyed because they weren't supposed to get on. We didn't stop in front of a station, so they couldn't have got on in the first place.
At some point, I even see my family. My mom and my sister… I ask my mom: “how did you get in?”
And she tells me that she doesn't know, but she is very happy to be here, there are so many things to do, and it is so special to spend time together with us on this train. I actually feel a little emphatic. Yeah, this could be special, let's ride it out!
I walked also towards other people, strangers… They say they are lucid dreamers and that they wanted the private train. But for some reason, the private train, was the same train for all of us.
I guess the AI made a mistake and thought that this train was the private train and just gave it to every lucid dreamer out there. I don't know, but the whole thing felt almost spiritual because all of these people, felt real. It added life to the scene. I see people hanging out in the restaurant car — just talking to each other about completely random subjects, relaxing. You know, just taking a cup of coffee or something. The train, the engineering, the people, everything was alive. It was so real.
It is even more alive than that. To each other and to me, these people were strangers at first. But riding this out together, starts to feel like days as time begins to drift. We began closing in on each other, some strangers became friends, and the friend groups started doing things together having activities. And the kids started patting the cow together.
Couple of more days in, people start setting up shops together, and they start making their own things. From just a means of luxury transportation it soon shifted into a meters long artist hub. And slowly, but surely, as the days pass, it becomes a city on rails. There are kids playing and everyone knows each other.

Strangely enough, no human is driving the train. In front of me there is a desk with nothing but a single microphone and a button. I activate the microphone to make an announcement.
A jingle starts playing, the same one as in Snowpiercer. I started having my speech, and I remember exactly what I said. It was that I was very happy to be here, and that sadly, it is my time to go, and I hoped that everyone remembers everything.
I let go of the mic and I walk back into the other cars, by now, things have so heavily evolved we have plants growing in every car, mostly food to eat.
But I didn't quite hear anything on the speakers when I made the announcement, so I ask random people if they heard the passenger announcement, but they all reply: “no we didn't hear anything”. So I guess that the microphone didn't work.
I then walk up to my mom. She is playing around with my nephews and nieces in a makeshift playground someone made. Yet that these people like my mum can still feel the positive vibes. Still, a really strange thing to say, but it was how I interpreted it at the time.
I walk back into the other coaches and say goodbye to a few other people that mattered the most to me here since there was no way I could say goodbye to everyone.
I woke up with full closure.
Once I got up, I realized I hit snooze on my alarm clock for maybe about 20 minutes. Which means that this whole thing happened in just 20 minutes. Possibly even less because I wouldn't sleep right away.
And that felt kind of crazy.

As I'm reaching into my left pocket, I notice I have my phone with me. I turned it on, and it was open on the Contacts app. On the top of the list, there was a peculiar person I never heard of before: Ben. I decided to give Ben a call.
A robotic voice made itself audible on the speaker. The robotic voice said: “Hi, I'm Ben! A dream AI. I can change any dream for you just the way you like it.”
“Anything?”, I ask. “We do anything for our customers. Your deepest desires, your wildest wishes and your greatest adventures come true. With Ben, you are 100% in control”.
Eager to test that theory, realizing as I was getting lucid — I'm not just anybody! I'm not going to stand here and wait for public transport like normal citizens do! I want a private train!
And so I speak my wishes in a clear English voice to Ben on my phone. No reply. Ben wasn't saying a word.
But something is changing… Looking up at the sign, it starts to flicker, as if someone is hacking into the sign in my dream, and quickly, the sign updated, saying: “Do not board — Private train”.
Not long after, I hear the train rolling into view — and my dragons — was it a marvel to behold, easily 100 cars long. The entire exterior is a silvery white train with red stripes on it. The red stripes are made from precisely cut ruby that is so thin and so flat that it surprises me it doesn't chip or crack. Surrounding the ruby stripes was chrome lining that holds everything together.
It looks shiny and beautiful, modern yet classical, drawing its inspiration from late 80s diners in the United States, along with Sci-fi elements from “Snowpiercer” and “Hunger Games — Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”.
What really strikes me at this point is that, this all feels man-made. Engineered. My fantasy doesn't extend to these exquisite tastes without much research beforehand. And yet, that initial fear of the unknown made it all the more tantalizing to step in and roll the fast-lane of the dream world.
The car at the front opens its door, and to my surprise, nobody of the crowd steps in, automatically obeying what the sign says. In a split second, Ben had changed the normal aesthetic of a public train station into a capitalist class-divided private railroad for the ultra-rich to get their own private trains. In real life I'd hate this, but now I couldn't care less!
I got inside the train at the front, just before the conductors' car. The first cabin is relatively simple. It has a few chairs, tables that's it. Nothing too shabby. Each car has the same silvery white colour as the exterior, separated by red doors, mimicking the ruby stripes.
For the first time since my command, the AI spoke again: it said the train would be departing soon, but that I'm allowed to explore the train as I wish.
So, I go into the next car — and this one is a freaking tennis court! It was absolutely insane. There even is a small place for people to watch the game!
I walk into the next car — this seems to be a little restaurant, and quickly becoming my favourite car!
Stockpiles of candy and snacks and everything laid for people to grab for free!
There are Maltesers, Snickers, Bounty, and variations of it all!
Sitting on the floor (as the cabin where the candy was held was quite low), I start munching on everything. And I mean, everything!
I started eating the whole supply, there is even white Maltesers, and oh my god, they tasted so good.
Throughout this feast, I keep thinking of how grateful I am that it feels so real, the taste, the crunch, the feeling of getting full… My synapses are firing like crazy at this point to make this taste so real.
After the entire bar is emptied, and I feel almost like puking, I walk into the next car, this one is a literal petting zoo! It has a cow behind a small fence, and some chicken above in a cage.
It was an absolute monster of a train, and it just kept going, and going, and going! Everything stayed so consistent. I could always find my way back to the first cabin and I could even look at the screens inside the train and see how fast we are going.
I could look outside and see biomes consistent of that with the Netherlands… But something happened along the way. The more and more I drove towards Groningen. I started noticing that there are other people around, too.
First just a few, but later on, it starts to become more and more. And I began to ask myself: Where do these people come from?
This was intense and at this point I am a little annoyed because they weren't supposed to get on. We didn't stop in front of a station, so they couldn't have got on in the first place.
At some point, I even see my family. My mom and my sister… I ask my mom: “how did you get in?”
And she tells me that she doesn't know, but she is very happy to be here, there are so many things to do, and it is so special to spend time together with us on this train. I actually feel a little emphatic. Yeah, this could be special, let's ride it out!
I walked also towards other people, strangers… They say they are lucid dreamers and that they wanted the private train. But for some reason, the private train, was the same train for all of us.
I guess the AI made a mistake and thought that this train was the private train and just gave it to every lucid dreamer out there. I don't know, but the whole thing felt almost spiritual because all of these people, felt real. It added life to the scene. I see people hanging out in the restaurant car — just talking to each other about completely random subjects, relaxing. You know, just taking a cup of coffee or something. The train, the engineering, the people, everything was alive. It was so real.
It is even more alive than that. To each other and to me, these people were strangers at first. But riding this out together, starts to feel like days as time begins to drift. We began closing in on each other, some strangers became friends, and the friend groups started doing things together having activities. And the kids started patting the cow together.
Couple of more days in, people start setting up shops together, and they start making their own things. From just a means of luxury transportation it soon shifted into a meters long artist hub. And slowly, but surely, as the days pass, it becomes a city on rails. There are kids playing and everyone knows each other.

Here's the news we've all been waiting for: "Summer '24 Limited arrives Friday May 24th @ 8 AM Pacific"!
For those less familiar with Nocturne Alchemy, this release will include a "Resurgence" of (most of) last year's Summer 2023 scents, as well as this year's new releases, which will themselves then Resurge next year. You can find the complete list of last year's Summer 2023 scents HERE, with the caveat that the Crystalline #s won't be returning since they already came back in a Thoth's Archive, and the Musks don't Resurge either.
One of the nice things about this Resurgence thing is that you can buy decants in the first year to see how you like them, then full-size them the following year. Arae Decantery, Crypta Obscura, and Ajevie all do Nocturne Alchemy decants. And for those scents that won't Resurge (like the seasonal Musks), collections are around for long enough that there's still generally time to try decants before FSing. With only rare exceptions - looking at you, Lait! - things don't typically sell out right away, and collections stay up for several months.
I thought it might be helpful if I shared my thoughts on the Summer 2023 scents I've tried. We'd all love to hear your own thoughts on these or any other Summer 2023 perfumes, if you have any reviews to share! Amber Cotton Candy & Honey Bee [Fossilized Amber accord, Bastet’s Amber absolute, Labdanum, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Cedar Chips, Cotton Candy accord, Vanilla-sugar, Whipped Orange Blossom Honey accord, Languid Amber Cordial accord (rich PC Ozymandias amber absolute), French Vanilla, Caramel and Raspberry Essence] - I don't buy NAVA's Bees because their honey doesn't work on me - their orange blossom honey is quite cloying, sickly sweet, and a bit urinous on me. This was a freebie sniffie bottle from Ajevie, which I still tried because it's always fun to try new things, and because (having experienced the orange blossom honey before) I figured I could overlook the honey to evaluate the other notes. This amber definitely has a thick, syrupy quality to it - I get almost a whiff of their limestone accord - and it's heavy on the labdanum. The pink spun-sugar cotton candy note amps the already quite sweet honey note. I also, to my surprise, actually can make out a touch of tart juicy raspbery - but not any patchouli.
Peach Vanilla Crème Tea [Peach skin, Peach pit, Ripened Peach accord, Black Tea, Bastet’s Amber absolute, Vanilla Bean Cordial, and Vanilla-Sugar] - It's peach iced tea, sweet and refreshing, much like Poesie Peach Tiara [Peach iced tea, honeysuckle, sun warmed skin, and crisp white petticoats], but without the cotton note, and with both the black tea and the peach more assertive. This peach is a bit candy-ish (possibly that sweetness is amped by the vanilla sugar), and the tea is suprisingly cinnamon-y, which pairs beautifully with the peach and makes it more a transitional scent, summer into fall, than purely a hot-weather scent for me.
Crystalline #11 [Sandalwood Milk accord, Santalum extract, Australian Sandalwood, Sandalwood Chips in Oudh blend, Golden Indian Sandalwood, Kobalt (Studio Limited Originals) Vanilla, Jasmine, Cedarwood, Red Sandalwood and Crystalline (Studio Limited Originals)] - A woodsy-creamy sandalwood and NAVA's lovely vanilla, this one recognizably a mix of Kobalt and Crystalline. It's difficult to say which of the sandalwood or vanilla are stronger because each of them seems the star on alternate sniffs! This is woodsier, more milky, and a little less addictive to my nose than Snowy Woolly [Vanilla essence, Indian Sandalwood, French Vanilla, Coconut Husk, Bastet’s Musk absolute and White Sandalwood], but it's a reasonable alternative if you're looking for the unctuous, gorgeous simplicity of vanilla + sandalwood. A touch of smoky oud comes out in the drydown, which is a welcome addition that makes this scent just a touch more complex.

It's simple yet gorgeous. The sugary note helps it avoid sunscreen status, and there's something really light and refreshing about this one. I haven’t needed to do this yet, but does anyone have experience with asking instructors for permission to take certain courses when you don’t meet the requisite requirements?
In my situation, I’m a BSc student in biology and I want to take zooarcheology (ANTH-3207) but on WebAdvisor it says the requisites are ANTH-2200 or ask permission of instructor. That’s fine and dandy but ANTH-2200 is not apart of the listed anthropology courses I am allowed to take to receive credit for my non-biology ancillary science courses requirement, only ANTH-2300 is allowed for credit.
I have a tight timeline for when I need to graduate and I really do not want to be wasting my time, or money, taking courses that won’t benefit my overall degree requirements. So I’m thinking I’m gonna wing it, take ANTH-2300, and then ask whoever is teaching ANTH-3207 if I can take the course even though I “technically” don’t meet the requisite requirements.
Thoughts on if this is a good plan?
