2024.05.22 00:53 pU_Uq License for Accepting Online Payments

Hi! I'm a college student studying Software Engineering and I'm a resident in Abu Dhabi. I love programming and building hobby projects that increase my skills in the field and have the potential to earn money.
I currently have many free hobby projects that I made over the years that are used by thousands of users, and I want to move on to the next step and start accepting payments for my current and future projects.
All payment providers that I want to work with require me to have a business license. My projects are not directly involved with the UAE. Most of my users are in the US.
Digital things that I'm planning to sell include software (such as paid App Store apps) and subscriptions (such as a subscription for an online tool).
My Hours of Searching
  1. I don't even know if it's my fit, but I have looked into the Abu Dhabi Trader License (Tajer Abu Dhabi) since I live in Abu Dhabi. However, I'm not a UAE national and it only allows residents to create limited liability companies in partnership with Emiratis and they must own at least 51% of the company.
  2. I have heard of the eTrader license from Dubai Economy (DED). It costs around 1070 AED a year and it seems hard to get. Again, I live in Abu Dhabi. Also, I believe 1000 AED a year is a lot.
  3. I saw a comment while searching about opening a company in the US. I have no idea about any of this. After some searching, it seems very easy to open. However, I have no experience in any of this. I just need a license so I can accept payments.
If you know any resources I can read or people that I can reach for help, please let me know. Thank you!

2024.05.22 00:17 Only_Gold_1054 Mining & metals supply chain disruptions - how to gain an edge with on-site intel?

Hello Commodities community members,
The metals markets have seen wild swings lately driven by supply chain disruptions. The common thread is that granular intelligence on mining operations, midstream processing, and transportation can provide a huge edge in forecasting and front-running metals market moves. Especially in today's environment of geopolitical uncertainty, climate volatility, and trade tensions.
Some recent examples:
The common thread is that granular intelligence on mining operations, midstream processing, and transportation can provide a huge edge in forecasting and front-running metals market moves. Especially in today's environment of geopolitical uncertainty, climate volatility, and trade tensions.
So here's the question - what are some ways metals traders could develop information networks to systematically get ahead of these supply chain disruptions? (Alternatively, what types of people would you want informants or moles - smelter operators, port workers, mining engineers, ship captains, railroad schedulers? If there is a news channel or informant network catered for you, who would you hire or pay to have access to?)
Curious to hear insights from others in the industry on the never-ending quest to acquire market-moving news before it moves markets. If there are real-time alternative data api providers that does this, would love to check them out as well!
Thank you in advance =)

2024.05.21 23:05 halfkeck Lemons aren't always bitter, a 24 Hours of Lemons story. Race 11 Part 1

"You should go to Hallett. We went last year and it was fun. A good track for Miata's"
My friend Gerry the Texan who along with his team brings several Miata's to races all over from Road America to Houston to Seibring. It's a great bunch of people who are having a blast racing Lemons. He told me that and it got me to thinking. We wanted to go to a new track this year and after the disappointment at Barber going somewhere and having some fun sounded good. Also Hallett is noted for having a smaller field so we could be competitive. I always say that Barber is more like a pro level Lemons race in that it attracts the faster and better prepped teams. Road America was like that too.
But first we have to fix the car. As typical, we wait until the race is almost upon us to start. There's the matter of how bad the car is bent from the last race where Manny hit the wall. They thought it was good but we need to check this.
After pulling the rear sub frame in hopes of replacing it we learn that a 90 is a bit different than a 91 subframe or a 2001 subframe. Supposedly it all interchanges but after looking over the differences, Youngest adds a few reinforcements at places the internet gurus say are the weak points and we put the rear end together and put it back in the car. Then we check the alignment. To my great surprise the rear camber and caster is spot on. I was shocked, but the crew did a great job that night fixing the car while it was up on jack stands. Using just a tape measure they got the car really close. Toe was out but the borrowed porta powers got the bent subframe where it needed to be.
We changed the oil and brake fluid, bled the system where we took the rear apart to drop the subframe.
Another project we attempted was to swap in a larger fuel tank. Manny who has been helping with the repairs found a article on the internet that said you could bolt in a NB fuel tank out of a 2001 or so Miata and gain a gallon of fuel capacity. Yeah, that is not possible. The tank has a hump where the car does not and would involve cutting a hole in the car which would be a bit noticeable. Not worth it for such a little gain. Good news is I now have two extra NB tanks if anyone needs one. A gallon would not seem to be that much but we are still dreaming of two stopping the car at certain tracks, stretching our mileage to only stop every two hours and 25 minutes and make a seven hour day with one less stop. It's not all about raw speed, strategy can make a difference. One less stop per day could potentially add ten laps in a weekend of racing at certain tracks.
After we got the subframe in and the car aligned Youngest pulled it all apart again. He was not happy with the bushings holding the rear differential in place. The rear has to move a bit so it is not solid mounted, it actually can pivot a slight bit. He felt the bushings holding it were letting it move too freely.
Once again we put the car back together.
All during this time Manny and FabGuy have been working hard on a new car. Manny got a little crazy on Co-part. First one Miata shows up at our shop. Then another. Then another. I started joking with the guys "Hi I'm Manny, I might have a Miata addiction". Yeah. So after a lot of looking we have three wrecked cars, one being a automatic that was absolutely destroyed. It had zero good body panels and even the front subframe was pushed back where it had got up on something in a wreck. I think the only things we saved off that car was a rear axle, engine, transmission and the hard top which was cracked but usable.
We then robbed enough body parts off of one to put on the other so we ended up with a mostly maroon car with a drivers side red fender, red door and silver hardtop. I say we but all we did at the shop was to take the cars apart, everything else went to Manny's garage where he and FabGuy installed the cage and built the car. They did bring it over a time or two to put in the air to install a few parts or when we aligned it. The build and fitment were top notch on the car, lots of nice parts went in, like a better seat and belts than we use on our Miata. Like most builds they were literally bolting parts to it the night before we loaded the car to head west.
Finally both cars are prepped and it's time to get on the road. Manny has a business where he uses two rollbacks and moves cars mostly to and from car lots and auction lots. So he gets the newer one of the two trucks and shows up at the shop Thursday morning. RacerGuy and I are already there and have hooked our camper to RacerGuys truck. I am leaving my trucks at home, but taking our race trailer and our camper. The plan is to hook the camper to RacerGuys diesel F250 and hook the race trailer to Manny's newish Chevy 4500.
The plan nearly goes off the rails when Manny shows up and I get to looking at his truck. Being in the business I can't not help but look at tires. His drives are terrible, two are bald, one is soft and one showing wire. I go to air up one of the bald ones and it's not having it. Air is leaking out as fast as it was going in. In Manny's defense his employee was driving this truck and Manny had not seen it in weeks. I had already loaded tire tools and extra spare tires for every truck and trailer in the caravan except RacerGuy's truck and I would have got a spare for it too if I had thought about it. With nothing else to do, we all jump in and start busting tires. Forty five minutes later we have four new drives on the truck and we are in a much better spot to make the long drive. I hadn't done any big truck tires for a long time, sold that part of the business. Still got it, just like riding a bike.
We find I40 and start clicking off miles. Manny has already told us the limiting factor which is that GM put a really tiny fuel tank in his truck so we are forced to stop every 160-180 miles for fuel. It slows us down but it's not all bad, we find a roadside BBQ joint that looks like a camper up on blocks that has a huge parking lot and a ton of customers lining up. Of course we try it out, the best BBQ comes from little places like that, not the ones with massive buildings.
We cross Arkansas and I think it was the first time I ever went that way westbound on 40. Came back the other side when we brought the box truck back where we bought it in California. We finally make Oklahoma and bent north to go to Tulsa. Did not see the Tulsa King anywhere, stopped in a Super Walmart and stocked up on groceries for the weekend. Hallett is in the middle of nowhere, so we are planning on eating at the track.
We get there and make our way into the paddock. This will be the first time we have every camped inside the track. They have a cross over with gates that close during when the track is hot and a tunnel for access when the gates are closed. The tunnel looks kind of tight, I'm happy to not test the posted height limits. It says our trailers should fit. Yeah we will wait.
We hustle to get the camper leveled and the generator cranked up. For the next three days it will run non-stop to keep the fridge cold and our lights on. We run the a/c but for the most part temps are very nice.
The next morning we are up and on the road after the drivers meeting. We go to Pawnee, take in some sights then hit Stillwater for some parts and pieces at a hardware store. We also gas up all our empty gas cans so we are ready for race day.
Back at the track Manny and Fabguy are unloading their car off the back of the rollback. It was nice carrying one and towing one car. They go out and practice a bit, come in and make some changes then go out again. It's a new build and everyone has realistic expectations about the car. We are all expecting issues as it takes a while to find the weak spots and fix them.
We get our car out and practice. We send three of the four drivers out and have them run a few laps. I'm about to get ready and go out when RacerGuy comes in and says he felt something pop. We get to looking and the adjuster is gone off the alternator. Look a little more and the bolt has broken off in the alternator. So we have a spare motor in the trailer but it is missing the adjuster. Looks like we need the adjuster, the bolt and the alternator. We make a few visits around the paddock to look for parts but none of the other Miata teams have what we need. Youngest goes into the trailer and in a small miracle finds the adjuster laying under the spare motor loose. He and Coach head into Tulsa on a parts run while Manny agrees to put me into their car for a few laps so I can get a feel for the track. I've watched a hundred laps on Youtube but nothing is like actually driving the track. I go out and don't push things too hard. It is a very worn surface with some patches, particularly in the groove of turn two. Manny's car drives a lot different than ours, you can really tell you have more power and grip. Their tires are a lot wider as well as having 30-40 more hp. They have been working on the car all day and just finished taking off the lines where they installed a remote oil filter, they were not Lemons grade and were leaking.
Just before dark Youngest gets the parts on the car. We also install a helmet blower, we are going to try to use the air to defrost the windshield. All reports indicate rain is coming Sunday.
Then it's dinner time. Our friends from Minnesota have brought pure Lemons art down in the form of a Chrysler Magnum wagon powered by a slant 6 that is mid mounted. It is a engineering feat and runs out nicely. Adam the team leader and I have been planning and they are cooking for us for tonight and we are cooking for them Saturday night. They show us up by putting on a feed with steaks and salad. I'm feeling bad about the fact we are serving hamburgers, coleslaw and potato salad the next night. It was great.
Saturday morning dawns and we are up and moving around. I give up waiting on a shower as the line is too long inside and try the outdoor shower. It has no roof, just walls. It was ok. The next morning I tried it again and it was freezing, no hot water!
I skip breakfast and get ready to get in the car. I want to get on the grid early as I still am not feeling great about the track. The laps in Manny's car did not give me much to make me feel really attuned to the track as I was learning both the car and the track at the same time. I want all the practice laps I can get in our car. The line up is me, Youngest, Coach and then RacerGuy bringing up the finish for the day. FabGuy is gridded about ten cars behind us and he is under team orders to take it easy to start the race.
We get out and start doing pace laps. Soon enough it's green and the race is on. A few laps in Fabguy blasts by me. So much for taking it easy. Going into turn 2 I see a car off track. I mean he's not a little off the racing surface, he's 150 feet off the corner and just about in the tree line. I wonder what happened there. I am starting to get the hang of the track and pick up some speed. Then I mess up early on and miss the line completely going into turn 9 from 8 and run off the track. I fire the car back up and quickly exit and head to the penalty box.
"what happened?'
"I missed the line and ran out of asphalt and talent all about the same time"
The judge kind of laughs, "keep it on the track" and sends me back out. Youngest has made it to penalty and looks the car over from my adventure in the dirt and grass and gives the go ahead. If you are going to mess up do it right at the entrance to pit road, it really cuts down your time off track!
I run clean the rest of the stint. I tiptoe around the corner I went off but run hard the rest of the track without pushing so hard I get off again. Then Youngest, then Coach. We are having one of the best days we have ever had at the track. Besides my adventure off track no one else has messed up. Our stops are clean and quick. Our times top to bottom are very similar and consistent. Something strange is happening. We are in the top 15 overall and since we managed to get put in B class we are doing very well. Only 50 cars at Hallett this weekend, the smallest Lemons field we have ever competed against.
Fabguy pulls off to go to the gas pumps. We are fueling on pit road but they are going to just fuel at the pumps this race. They aren't planning on winning anything so why go to all the trouble of getting all your gear on and doing hot pit stops? Fabguy comes off a little hot and the officials come over to tell them they were over the ten mph paddock limit. Manyy drives the car up to the penalty and Fabguy comes up and they are told they are good to go. Later Manny gets off the track and goes to penalty. They start in on him not serving the penalty for going too fast in the pits. "we served that penalty" The judge goes off "do you really want to argue about this" Later when they realize the team was right and the previous judge had not marked it off the offenders list before going on break. In a first the judge apologizes to them.
With about two hours left in the day their Miata is towed off. The engine is super hot and will not crank. All signs look bad. Later it cools off and will crank, but cranks with ease, signs of a engine that has lost all compression. Their weekend is done and Fabguy heads out to get a headstart on getting to work early Monday. The rest of us will pull an all nighter after the race Sunday.
I start doing the math and realize it's going to be very tight. We make our calcuations based on a normal 7 hour race day. Today is a 7.5 hour day which is a bit longer than normal when racing Lemons. I figured out the stints and got it wrong. We realize our mistake and run Coach a bit longer before we put in RacerGuy. It's going to come right down to the limit of our fuel mileage. We start planning dinner and cleaning up the paddock with about ten minutes to go when all the sudden we realize the car is not out there. We run to the pumps and find Racerguy there. He ran out and limped the car to the pumps but could not get all the way there. By the time we get the car pushed around to get fuel the race is over for the day. I feel like a total idiot, I could have ran another five minutes easily in the car in the morning and not had this problem.
But the good news is that somehow even after I went off the track and and then we ran out of gas was that we were still very good on the day. We had enough of a lead on the car behind us in Class B that we still had a 7 lap lead even after running out of gas. Even better our paddock mates in the Chrysler are putting a shellacking on Class C as well. Their Magnum wagon is running a Richard Petty scheme, they all have uniforms and the requisite trademark Petty cowboy hat and STP logos, only this time it means "Slow Through Paddock" signs and all. They actually shouted this out when doing the morning driving meeting when they were going over the rules. "STP, Slow through Paddock!" every time the officials discussed that rule in the drivers meeting.
We put everything away, rain is moving in. We are in shock about how well everything is going. Surely we will find a way to loose this race tomorrow. Will other cars be faster in the rain? Will we shoot ourselves in the foot and have poor driving and get multiple black flags? Will something break on the car which has been running great all day long? And who the heck is this Coach guy? All that and more when we wrap up this in the next part of this story. Stay tuned!

2024.05.21 22:57 Repulsive-Lunch3515 Modpack Release: TowardsRocketScience 2.0

Modpack Release: TowardsRocketScience 2.0
There was this experiment... A new source of energy they said... But it went very wrong! They turned our home land - the earth's moon - into a dust dessert without any atmosphere. You barely made it out alive and crash landed on the planet earth. Your starship was destroyed and evaporated into the air. But you are determined to survive and make our moon habitable again!
With this modpack you will explore immersive engineering, research and build rockets, travel to other planets and build a space station! Your goal is to terraform the moon - but it will be a long journey...
This modpack is designed progressively and beginner friendly and has multiple chapters.
If you like Immersive engineering and Advanced Rocketry you will love this pack!
This pack features:
  • Custom new planets
  • New asteroids to mine
  • A storyline
  • Toffel's building plans to inspire your creativity
  • Many new recipes
  • A research system to unlock items/blocks
  • Planet Artifacts
  • Immersive Tech power generation system

Full description:
Many recipes are changed or disabled and replaced with other methods to get the items. Most of them have to be crafted in an engineer's workbench (the large one). For some you need to mine asteroids or abandoned space ships. Some items need to be researched first and ordered in the quest book.
The Quest system utilizes the best features of my favourite mods in a story-like approach. You will need to do a task to unlock other paths but you have a little freedom in what paths you unlock next. it is NOT chapter1->end task->chapter2->... There is more to it!
Tasks include:
  • item creation,
  • reaching advancements,
  • trading-quests and
  • research-quests - you have never seen this before ;)
Below is an image of the main chapters:
https://preview.redd.it/gcm7y2zreu1d1.png?width=850&format=png&auto=webp&s=e27a2ce9019d969f5c65741215fe5b49d3852013
You can use a buildcraft quarry to help you in early game to get some ores while you start to create your little Minecolony. With the ressource production from your colony and the quarry you can build more expensive heavy industry machines to start your rocket production. Of course heavy machinery needs heavy power generation. You can use the diesel generator for the basic machines but you want to upgrade to a steam turbine if you want to get your industry going.
You can dig for oil with the giant pumpjack and refine it into diesel in a large distillation tower, or you go "green energy" and make a solar tower. Last one might produce less energy but does not require any fuel.
Oh and one more thing: If you need water, you need to get it from a river or ocean biome because there is no infinite water in other biomes. if it is a large distance to the next river / ocean you could build a railway with tank carts to collect a ton of water at once and store it at your base. You can also find water deep underground and pump it up like oil. The core sample drill will help you there. You better find a good water supply or there is no steam turbine for you. The diesel generator and the gas turbine work without water. You also need some water to generate rocket fuel.
The quest system will further guide you in this pack.
Main Mods List:
Advanced Rocketry
Immersive Engineering
Immersive Petroleum
Immersive Tech
Refined Storage
Minecolonies 1.12.2 beta
Buildcraft
Many quality-improvement mods
Guide on power generation:
1: Early game:
For early game power generation you can use buildcraft engines. Combustion engines can burn oil, diesel, gasoline and lubricant - but the last one does not make much power. You can collect oil with a bucket from oil springs or use a pump to power your combustion engine.
If you do not see any oil you can build stirling engines and burn coal. You might find a dark oak biome where you can get much wood in a short time because of the big trees.
2: Scaling up:
Once you have crafted a distillation tower you can refine oil into diesel, gasoline and lubricant. You can use the diesel in a diesel generator. This will give you some good power for your rocket factory or to power an excavator. The gasoline can be processed in a portable generator or in a buildcraft combustion engine.
Note: The buildcraft engines need a energy bridge to connect with other energy systems. Pipe buildcraft energy into a MJ energy consumer. Place the energy bridge next to the consumer. Place a RF/FE energy producer next to the energy bridge too. You can now use connectors to connect wires to the FE/RF producer. You can reverse this process too if you want a high speed quarry ;)
3: I need more POWER!!!
  • Build a gas turbine - it can burn gasoline much more efficiently than a portable generator and it makes much power. It also does not require water but it is a very loud process....
  • Build a boiler to burn diesel or biodiesel and produce steam. pipe the steam into a steam turbine.
  • Of course you could just build a big diesel generator array
4: Power on space stations:
Because there is no infinite water you will need different ways to produce water and energy.
  • You can mine for gas on gas giants and use oxygen and hydrogen to make steam in a refinery and pipe it into a steam turbine. Collect water from the output of the steam turbine. Note that for the steam turbine to generate power you need a high flow rate of steam. If the flow rate is too low you will not get energy.
  • If you have no water but access to gasoline or rocket fuel, you can use both in a gas turbine or a portable generator to produce energy. A gas turbine will output a little water when you run it on rocket fuel
  • Build large rockts with fluid tanks and load water or fuel from the ground to power your space station
  • tips when gas mining:
  • burning rocket fuel in a gas turbine will give more energy and less water
  • using a steam turbine will make more water but less energy
Steam turbine vs Gas turbine vs diesel generator:
Steam turbine (~12k rf/tick):
  • fuel: very fuel efficient, burns diesel or biodiesel(2x)
  • water: needs much water to run but you can recycle some of it
  • noise: no loud noise
  • size: large - (distiller), boiler, turbine, alternator
  • starting: slow startup, boiler needs to heat up and turbine needs to spin up
  • tips: use distilled water to get more steam from boiler and spin turbine a little faster
Gas turbine (~12k rf/tick)::
  • fuel: burns gasoline or rocket fuel, high fuel consumption
  • water: needs no water
  • noise: very loud
  • size: small - turbine, alternator
  • starting: needs start helper, fast startup
  • tips: use oxygen / hydrogen from gas mining and make cheap rocket fuel to power turbine
Diesel generator (~4k rf/tick)::
  • fuel: burns diesel / biodiesel, more efficient than single block engines, can sustain pumpjack and distillation tower very easy
  • water: needs no water
  • noise: a little noise
  • size: very small
  • starting: instant starting,
  • tips: works great to power an excavator. because it produces the same power that the excavator needs
Guide on Advanced rocketry:
The Quest Book will guide you here.
If you still need help you should have a look at this guide on youtube: https://youtu.be/XAaM1xsY5KE?si=IGdPcm_Z5dlM1hcm
Note: The Terraforming process is sped up in this modpack - who would want to wait for weeks to transform a planet?
Asteroid mining:
There are some additional asteroids for you to mine:
You can find glowing asteroids that can provide you with glowstone and blaze powder
You can find end asteroids and nether asteroids.
Most important: You can find abandoned spaceships!

2024.05.21 21:49 dylanm312 C&C 27 mark III owner’s manual

C&C 27 mark III owner’s manual
Anyone have a link to the owner’s manual and/or service manual for a 1981 C&C 27 mark III sailboat? I’m helping a friend restore his boat, and having the manual would help with understanding how everything is routed/wired/etc.
Alternatively, if anyone can offer suggestions, I’m trying to figure out what the three electrical switches below the engine panel do (the black handle I already know is the fuel cutoff). The engine is a Yanmar 2GM20 two-cylinder, diesel, seawater-cooled inboard engine.
Thanks!

Check engine light and emergency operating mode on a 2016 Mazda 6

Hey there i was driving my mums Mazda for a long trip around 500kms continously, but when I was about to reach my destination check engine light popped up and the car went into emergency operating mode. No weird noises, no weird smells, everything seems just fine. Had the same thing 4 Weeks ago, also at the end of a long trip 600kms. Went to the mechanic. Contol Unit said there was a issue with the boost pressure. But as the Mechanic could find any damages, he just deleted the error and the car was running just fine for the next 1000km. Now I have the exact same issue again. What could be the cause of this? Car is a 2016 Mazda 6, turbo diesel, 2l 4cylinder skyactive engine generating 170hp. Car currently got 160.000 miles on it.
I suppose its the boost pressure sensor because it cant really be a mechanical issue if the car runs just fine after deleting the error right? Are there any other sensors that would cause issues related to the boost pressure which would cause the car to go into emergency operating mode?
Thank you!!

2024.05.21 20:33 Named-_ Car won’t move even tho i hear the engine running

Since i first started playing the long drive i never could actually drive the car and i always thought it was because i never got the fuel right and was new to the game, some months after i tried driving the both bikes and it worked! So I’m playing with the bike and find the IFA W50 and i think “this time i’ll gonna do it” i got the fuel right, put oil in the engine and the coolant had 5 litres of water. I start the car I TURN OFF THE HANDBRAKE start it up and press w. I see the temperature heating (the other thing near the speedometer) was also going up BUT THE CAR DIDNT MOVEEEE. (The speedometer also didnt)
Is there any way to fix this????
IMPORTANT INFO: the car is IFA W50 and I HEAR THE ENGINE RUNNING BUT THE CAR WONT GO (well only a bit because the handbrake is off)
edit: someone said that it could be the wrong fuel in the engine so i looked at the wiki (it was the original IFA W50 engine) and it said it needed diesel so i replaced the oil in it with diesel, but now i don’t hear it running and the thing near the speedometer doesn’t go up. Luckily i saved and reloaded. But now i realised he meant not the Oil tank but the Fuel tank, so yes i did have diesel in there

2024.05.21 20:23 Rufian2113 99 Fatboy- Diesel oil or motorcycle oil?

Context- I live in a rural area, the nearest Harley dealership is 85 miles away. I'm a reefer mechanic. Have access to diesel oil
I just recently got my factory shop manual for the 1999 softail models, and while I was doing my oil change with Harley oil, I would have to plan my whole day around going to the dealership to get the kit and it's not very convenient as the dealerships nearest me are always closed sunday and monday, and I work most saturdays. I've also used Valvoline Motorcycle Oil and that has worked well. Anyway, while reading the manual, it says:
*"If it is necessary to add oil and Harley-Davidson oil is not available, use an oil certified for diesel engines. Acceptable diesel engine oil designations include CE, CF, CF-4, and CG-4. The preferred viscosities for the diesel engine oils, in descending order, are 20W-50, 15W-40 and 1OW-40"*
So the question is: wouldn't the FACTORY manual know best which type of oil to use? Idk, I was like 11 in 1999, but I think Motorcycle specific-oil had already been invented by then, so why wouldn't they recommend that in the book? And should I just be using diesel oil if that's what I have every day access to?
Thanks :D

What do the numbers mean when doing DPF Regen. I understand the first and second boxes are temperature though I don't know what the third or 4th box mean.

2024.05.21 20:18 ElectroCS8051 Just passed here’s the best advice I can give

I just passed the driving test after failing the first time ; Here are the best pieces of advice I can give you.
The car
You should absolutely try your best to have your own car for the test and there are a couple of reasons for this. The first reason is because you can practice in it as much as you like and get used to all its quirks.
The second reason is that the added pressure and cost of hiring an instructors car creates more headache because you will be stressed about having to hire it and organise it and worry about if you fail having to hire it again.
The last reason is a bit technical but alot of instructors cars are 1-1.2l petrol cars, these are very small engines so they need a lot of torque to get going that means you have more work to do on the clutch and an increased risk of stalling. Most diesel cars will take off or accelerate just by going into gear and can handle clutch mistakes better without chugging.
The tester
Be prepared for your tester to be stern, and unfortunately for some of them to be rude. Their training and quality guidelines published online state they shouldn’t talk to you, offer you advice or assume the role of a “driving instructor”.
A lot of people are put off by this because you expect them to be like your instructor.
The nice ones will be polite , the rude ones will be condescending but they will all be silent and stern for 90% of the test.
A lot of them are stressed, overworked by the RSA and some of them get abuse from students, parents etc...which we don’t see it’s why even if you fail they wait to give you your results.
Your driving instructor
Try to do as many lessons as possible ; there are a couple of red flags to watch out for. If your instructor
• Ghosts you, takes days to reply.
• Doesn’t contact you about upcoming tests.
• Doesn’t offer alternative availabilities.
• Isn’t upfront about your mistakes.
They are likely just trying to do and sign off people’s 12 EDTs and then move on to the next person. Shop around and don’t be afraid to google things your tester says or ask another tester to verify….some testers say weird things that aren’t correct.
Back to point one a lot of instructors make money off car hire to cover their operating costs. Be conscious of this.
Common fail points
• Not moving up into the middle on the green light for a right turn. (Progression)
• Hitting a speed bump hard. (Reaction to hazards)
• Not driving at the speed limit when safe to do so. (Progression)
• Stopping at a roundabout when it’s clear. (Progression)
• Checking your blind spot when the car is in motion. (Reaction to hazards or observation).
• Signaling back in after overtaking (Misleading signals).
• Signalling around a parked car in an estate (Misleading signals, reaction to hazards ).
• Giving way to pedestrians without their feet on the road (Progression).
• Excessive observation at junctions(Makes you look uncomfortable and lacking confidence likely a reaction to hazards or observation grade).
Presentation
Humans are judgmental beings, arriving to your test in dirty clothes, dirty hygiene , smoking or vaping, dirty car , things hanging off your car with a rude demeanour will subconsciously tell the tester you don’t care which makes you look a danger.
Alternatively turning up with your whole family, crying , shaking , rattling and mumbling makes you look dangerous also because you aren’t confident; fear and 60kmhr in a two tonne metal box don’t mix.
You are trying to demonstrate you aren’t a learner anymore.
They can already tell within 10 minutes if you will pass or fail based on your presentation.
Uncommon tips
• Do not tell people you are sitting or resitting a test, you will have to explain a fail and it adds pressure.
• Take the quickest available tests, do not take far out tests you will stir on it and build it up in your mind.
• It is unsafe to drive too safely ; you will fail your test for being too cautious. A lot of instructors don’t explain this but if you are driving too cautiously others will take risks to overtake you or fill your gap and this is one of the number one causes of road accidents.
That’s what progress is.

2024.05.21 20:07 LowDog84 Selling my Audi Q8 - what should replace it?

Hi all,
Have been thinking about this for at least 1 month now, and still don't know what to do/get, so hope you have any ideas, as i have a pretty unusual need for my car.
I currently drive a fully loaded Audi Q8, last car was a RS6 with 700hp and before that 2xSQ5 - actually i'm not even an Audi fanboy, but somehow thats where i've ended up each time.
I live in a country with _very_ high taxes on cars, so a 2019 Q8 like mine was about 200k USD when i bought it used 2 years ago. I am getting tired of spending so much money on cars even though i love them.
My "special" needs involves that i haul Caravans/travel trailers for a living. So i drive around 20.000km a year for my busines and around 10.000km private. Half of the 20.000km is with a trailer attached.
I've been looking at EV's that are becomming very popular in my country (scandinavia), here you get tax breaks so you get a lot of car for the money compared to fossil fueled.
I tried both the Kia EV9 GT (can tow 2500kg) and the Voyah Free (2000kg), They both drive relatively good and i'm amazed how good quality they actually are and loaded with functions compared to the price.
I just don't really see it working for my need, even though i would like it too, because i could drive it almost "free" (paying my self from my company gives me around 11,000 USD a year, getting a homecharger with unlimited charge for 100usd a month as well, compared to me spending a lot more on fuel and so on.
Even though my country is relativly small and it has a good network of chargers, i am a bit confused if will have to charge all the time.
They also say you should only charge an EV to 80%. The EV9 is rated WLPT to 500km and around 400km IRL - 80% of that is only 320km. So if i have to go 150km to collect a trailer, i will have 170km remaining on the battery and have to haul the trailer back that would (my guesstimate) half the range so i could go maybe 85km, which would have me needing to charge to go the remaing 65km - could of course also be 200km i had to go each way, this would not make it any better. I would actually only be able to go to places around 100km away without having to charge on a 80% battery? And then of course the problem with having to detach the trailer to even get it to the charger.
Am i wrong about something here or does this just not work for my use (because i would like it to).
As an alternative i'm considering a PHEV/Hybrid (looking at Q5/A6/XC60) but guess this doesnt make sense for my "work" driving as the car would have lower milage after the battery is dead? And then extra costs for maintaing 2 engines and the extra weight. We do however also get a somewhat tax break on hybrids, so they are cheaper than the normal models.
Or am i stuck driving gasoline/diesel until something new comes out?
Part of me is currently mostly leaning to leasing a car for maybe 6 months or so as i there are currently new cars/models/brands comming pretty much each week, with also very large discounts on the EV's.

2024.05.21 19:49 Icy_Crazy6608 Exhaust cracks?

Today, my car was warm and idling. When I got out, I heard the exhaust blowing like a rough cough—you know, like a very open, blowing kind of sound. I found it weird, but I didn’t think much of it and drove home for 15 minutes. When I got out, I heard crackles that weren’t the normal exhaust crackles after a long drive. These were pops and cracks from under the engine bay. I recorded it. It was kind of scary. It was raining, so maybe [there were] drops on the exhaust, but how [is that possible] because I have a bottom plate that covers every inch of the car? To be honest, I can’t put the recording under here. Anyone who has had this issue or is an expert in heat and exhaust, I guess, please help. I’m already stressing out. By the way, it’s an Audi A4 B9 2L diesel.

2024.05.21 19:37 Jdawg_mck1996 Completely lost with my TDI

Bought a Pre Owned Jetta TDI last year. love the thing to death. Great mileage, comfortable, etc. just didn't realize how much maintenance goes into a diesel.
Over the last 5 weeks, I've had the engine flushed, Oil/fuel/air filters replaced, and the emissions system and DPF cooked out. Whole thing ran me a little over $3k and I was still throwing code for soot levels and a manifold runner. Mechanic told me it was probably the O2 sensor and that they'd order new parts and call me when they came in.
Well yesterday coming home the fucker died on me. Started with a rattling under the chassis and the engine started to lose power. Then I blew smoke from the exhaust. Started white, turned jet black, then cleared. Immediately followed by the engine redlining above 8k RPMS and the vehicle wanting to take off on me even if my foot wasn't on the gas.
We rolled a little less than a quarter mile before she stopped, turned off, and then refused to start back up.
I have absolutely zero clue what the hell is going on and the dealership won't have a spot to even look at it for 8 weeks. Local guy won't touch it anymore.

2024.05.21 18:35 IAFarmLife 361FE to 6.9 diesel

I have a New Holland bale wagon from the late 70s that has a 361 engine, which is the industrial version of the 360. It's built on a Ford F5 frame and has a New Process 435 4-speed transmission.
Does anyone know if the Ford 6.9 diesel has any hope of attaching to this transmission? I don't care that the diesel will be lower R.P.M.s and make the machine run slower. With the heavy hay I raise I need it to run slower. Just trying to decide if I need a different tranny as the one I have in the truck I'm robbing the 6.9 from is wore out.

Oil in coolant?
This is on my Universal 5432 (marine diesel). My oil level seemed about 30% lower than it should after running the engine for four hour, and this picture was taken just after I stopped. There is no coolant in the oil, but does this look like oil in the coolant?
