No idea where this is going but I've got time to kill at work..
As far as I'm feeling at this moment, I think I'm fine. I'm pretty worn down though and wondering how many days off the gym and 10+hr sleep days will get me fresh.
Anyway, I'm a 29 year old dude in Canada. I have a pretty good job in the defense sector, but I'm not great with finances. My hobbies and passions are expensive, and I often overpay for things so I don't have to think about it in the moment.
I live at home, as 2500+ for an apartment eating 60+% of my salary hasn't sounded exactly appealing but its almost time here. I don't think I want to live with my parents this time next year, at 30 years old.
My big issue is not being in a romantic relationship. That fact has always been the driving force behind most of the actions I take to be honest. I'm just realizing it now, so yeah, the ROI doesn't seem worth it.
By actions I mean anything to do with fitness and appearance, the music I listen to, and most the little things I do on any given day, that might challenge me or make me avoid or cover up pain in some way ( little self care habits or things like weed, supplements, nootropics, drugs in general to keep me somewhat functional, mostly by masking some of the pain).
I'll be blunt and objective about my situation, and its this:

Good looking guy, gotten better looking over time, but short, and my hair is a semi-permanent piece.
I've got self esteem issues for sure, and I can't say I always put off the best energy, being depressed and all.
I avoided, or just flat-out didn't try to find anyone really. I used to just open up tinder and feel a mix of emotions that would just ball up into anxiety or butterflies. Weird mix of excitement resentment and hopelessness.
Last year I decided I was going to make big life changes. Learn a new language (Spanish), learn music in some form (bass guitar), improve my finances, quit some of my bad habits, and find love.
Well the year started off pretty good. Dove into a Spanish learning book, got stuff for my bassguitar thats sat for a decade, started journaling every day (failing to keep up with this).
By mid Feb around Valentines day and my birthday, things had been rocky. A bunch of health scares, a couple of injuries, car was fucking up left and right, started working 10 hours daily (Back to 8 after a month as side gig got kiboshed), some money stuff etc..
I heard about the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and decided to give that a watch, not knowing what to expect, and it kinda broke something inside me, for the better.
Another shitty thing that happened was I got stopped at the border late January (Can to US), because the dog smelled cannabis in my bag (there was none, but they found something that had residue on it and bam, not allowed in the US). This is funny timing because not two weeks later I matched with this girl that lived in California, and after talking for a bit and me finding out how closely our niche music tastes lined up, and just how beautiful i found her.. Like maybe not everyone's type, kind of gothic, not very active on social media, but something about her... just looked unique and I still think she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen.
You can judge my.. judgement all you want, and it might be fair. Some people just flip some specific switches in your head and make things light up. No one did that like this... I quickly got familiar with the concept of limerence but even after acknowledging that was probably happening here, I didn't care.
I honestly just over pursued.. I didn't send her a bunch of texts, but I started writing these long love letter things. I honestly can't believe how head over heels and dopey I was being. It lasted for probably 2 months, ending after I started talking with a few other girls, and actually meeting someone a city over at a concert that said she really liked me.
Felt like the longest 2 months of my life, there was a lot and I mean A LOT of pain, and I had no idea that I was capable or susceptible to something like this based off so little. We didn't even voice chat, and we hardly talked about anything other then music.
I just created this compelling fantasy world in my head and I was conflating things like my new desire to leave Canada and eloping with what I was projecting to be the woman of my dreams.
I'll never know where it could have actually went because I could not keep this shit to myself. Around the time this limerent episode started I got this ENORMOUS boost in energy and ambition, like I hadn't felt before. Didn't matter what drugs I was put on or what state of health, being etc I was in. This was bizarrely strong and I actually forgot about my vices. Almost completely, and all of them. In the span of 3 weeks, I had cold stopped THC (2nd time in 14 years), I got off nicotine, I cut my spending in half and adhered to my diet better than I ever had before.. a little too well (24lbs lost in 3 weeks).
It seemed like this daze I was in was like a dopamine geyser from within that had never been found before.
As soon as the deterioration phase of limerence started (the day I found out there was 0 reciprocation), those habits came flying back, starting off with the vape again. Just one disposable cause I wanted to have a moment outside this church for some reason... I felt really compromised, embarrassed, disappointed and a lot of self loathing.
I started doing private vlogs that day too. I found that to be very insightful and good for processing this stuff, but it became emotionally draining and I got tired of hearing and seeing myself pretty fast.
As weird as it is to admit this. I miss living in that simulated romance. It felt like it was driving me to the real thing.. maybe it still will, but I feel my motivation to do so has dropped off after this shit.. Music just sounded better, everything felt deeper, I had a weird but unsustainable sense of purpose. Now everything feels hollow and plasticy..
I'm pretty much past that now, and I don't know how to feel about that. I know what I should feel... GOOD, but I just kind of feel nothing.

My husband (40M) has allergies, bad to where his nose gets clogged and he gets migraines. For being an outdoorsy guy, he is pretty much allergic to everything outside. He is supposed to be on a daily regiment of the netty pot, nasal spray and migraine medicine. All of which he does not do unless the migraine is already in full swing. He also turns into an pleasant jerk when he gets hot. He doesn't have great skills managing his temper, he gets short and frustrated quickly when he gets too warm. Yes, I know it sounds very immature but its very true. So needless to say, he loves AC. I am not a fan, unless it's 85 + degrees out.
He has to have it on when it's 55 outside! He keeps the house at 60-64 degrees. I am FREEZING. I don't want to put on a sweat shirt and pants inside, and then strip down to my shorts and tank top to go out and work on our farm. I know selfish. I love fresh air, and a breeze. I have tried compromising with a fan but he says it circulates dust and dog hair which defeats the purpose. I've tried cleaning better, but animal dander and dust is hard to stay on top of when we both work 65+ hours a week. I bundle up when I go to bed because its so cold, than he complains that I am too warm with too many layers to cuddle.
I don't know how to win. I have asked him to not keep the house so cold in the summer time. I have crappy circulation in my hands to where the tips of my fingers start to sting if they get too cold. He jokes that my feet and hands are freezing. Last time I got mad and said, "Well if you gave me a break from the stupid ac, my hands wouldn't be so cold all the time." As a result, this turned into me not caring about his allergies or his well being. I have asked him to go back to the doctor and see if they can come up with something more manageable as treatment because he says he has no time for the regiment of meds already prescribed.

I have had myself bringing up the questions: do developers keep up with the community via reddit?
this game is simple and just great i don't understand why they don't fix problems or put some more love into this game.
for example: spec-ops are stupid difficult and nobody plays them, it's a free game! there should be a large player base. so that shows how unnecessarly difficult it is.
the shop system is okay but it could be improved.
and maps could be transfered from spec-ops to PvP or the daily missions to add some fresh gameplay
he movement system is pretty nice and this game is in my top 5 for best aiming/sensitivity due to it's customizable options. it's smooth as silk when done right.
this game should have a larger player base, but due to lack of implementation and quantity of missions it's stale in my personal opinion.
i play because i like the setup. i stop playing because of the lack of love.

I (25M) have just been on holiday with my equally gay best friend (26M) to San Francisco. This is the latest of many holidays we have been very fortunate to go on with each other in our 5 years of friendship. We originally met on Tinder at university and have had an on again off again sort of relationship since, mostly pursued by myself. He was the keener one of the two until I had to move abroad to continue my studies, but we have kept in touch daily ever since. I moved back to the city we both live in two years ago, and we see each other 2 - 3 evenings a week, always alone. However, I had learned to not start anything in case of rejection, so any kind of move over the past few years (kissing, oral, sex, dates) have always been initiated by him.
Four years ago, when I had just moved to Italy for my degree, he came to visit me in Turin. We had a pretty wild first night, but it was the first time I ever told him that I loved him. I truly meant it, moving to a different country made me miss him more than I could ever imagine. Short story, he said it back, then said he needed to go for a walk to get some fresh air. It was the middle of August in Italy, so I didn't think twice of it - it was boiling in the AC-less room we'd spent the last couple of hours having fun. The next morning, I was upset because I then saw a bunch of Grindr notifications going off on his phone, and asked him if he had met someone last night. Been looking for help with this for so so long but i simply just can’t find an answer, ive struggled with my makeup creasing and separating on my top lip and chin since day one of doing makeup it’s been quite literally 3 years straight of experimenting and i still cannot wear makeup for over 4-5 hours without it becoming horrifically noticeable. i have prominent smile lines and dimples so i know creasing is bound to happen but i mean even a fresh full face starts to just look bad after half an hour even then that doesn’t explain the EXTREME separating?? hopefully someone here knows how to help so here’s my current routine and what products i’ve tried switching in and swapping with too.
prep: -the ordinary niacinamide -cerave moisturising lotion -la roche posay anthelios spf 50 (tried with and without makes no difference) -elf power grip primer OR elf putty primer (similar results, slightly less creasing w power grip but separation was still scary to look at)

i ive done this whole routine with damp beauty blenders, with a bone dry ones and ones soaked in setting spray multiple times over but i don’t find any of these steps making any difference so i settle for a damn one most times. i wear makeup daily and i physically can’t leave the house without any on so it looking straight up BAD within a few hours is a huge issue so please if anyone has tips or product recommendations id be so grateful

Rescued Stray Cat Seems Sad After Moving Indoors: Seeking Advice on what to do
First of all, I want to give you some context.
This cat is special to me even before I rescued him and brought him into my home. He’s a male, and I’ve known him for around three years. During this time, I’ve been providing him with food and water (not only him but I want to be specific on him now) daily and petting him whenever I had the chance (I have a dog, so I had many opportunities during our walks).
This cat is the most cheerful cat I know. Whenever I saw him, he was always happy. It might sound strange, but he seemed almost like he was singing or something similar.
However, as you can see in the pictures, he got hurt badly, both physically and mentally. When I met him that day, I had a tuna can for him, which he usually goes crazy for, but this time he was weak, hurt, and didn’t want to eat or do anything.
So I made a decision and took him to my house. I already have three cats (all females, adopted from the street as kittens) and a dog (male). I took him to the vet, who checked him physically, gave him a de-worming vaccine, and said he was generally fine.
Now, a week later, as you can see in the pictures, he has opened his eye, found a place to sit, and is eating, drinking, and using the litter box just like the others.
So what’s the problem? He’s not like he used to be. He’s not happy. He looks sad and doesn’t move from his spot unless it’s for food, water, or the litter box. The other cats don’t bother him, and my dog doesn’t get near him or scare him.
I don’t have any balcony or garden; I live in a building on the 6th floor. So my conclusion is that he misses the sun, the grass, or maybe the fresh air outside. What should I do? I’m scared to bring him back to the street because I don’t know what hurt him, whether it was a person or other cats.
I really don’t know what to do. It makes me sad. I want him to be happy. He might be more than three years old and has lived all his life outside, so maybe he misses that life. I don’t know.
Can anyone give me some advice? Has anyone had a similar situation?
Another thing, I’m really struggling right now with all the pet responsibilities. I walk my dog, and I’m afraid I will see another hurt cat or a lone kitten. I just can’t take any more cats home. I didn’t come here to complain, I just needed to lift this off my shoulders.

2024.05.21 17:37 OldScruff Has the Framework 16 experience been a huge letdown for you, or is it just me?

After waiting over half a year for my Framework 16 to finally get here, and after using it for the past 2 weeks as my daily driver I can't help but say that I'm a bit underwhelmed by the whole experience and the Framework laptop itself. The overall stability/driver maturity of the device, as well as the build quality have me feeling more like a glorified beta tester than the owner of a cutting-edge and well-designed premium product.
Look, don't get me wrong as I love what the Framework team is trying to do here, as the modularity of the device is a breath of fresh air in a world in which right-to-repair and upgrade capability is dying a slow and painful death.
But for a device I spent over $2200 of cash on after taxes, it simply does not feel like a $2200 product or premium piece of electronics hardware for that matter. The build quality simply feels cheap. Somewhere between the mushy keyboard, the trackpad layout and uneven spacers it employs (Why couldn’t they just sell a non-modular one-piece trackpad as an alternative?), the underwhelming screen (this has to be one of the least vibrant IPS panels I’ve used in a long time) and the tinny/near-silent speakers I feel like I’m using a cheaper $1200 Thinkpad from 2016 and not the future of modular laptops.
I could forgive most of things and accept these caveats as the cost of adding modularity and upgradability/repairability for a gen1 product, if the software-side of things were a pain-free experience. But unfortunately, they are not and this laptop has been nothing but a buggy mess of a device. Despite having updated to the lastest drivers, BIOS, and others and trying out 2 distinct installs of Windows 11, the so-called ‘hot-swappable’ nature of the modular ports work correctly about 50% of the time. I have seen this computer hard lockup, blue screen, or simply become completely unresponsive from say simply swapping one port on the side from a USB-C to a USB-A or Ethernet more often than not. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it crashes, and other times it doesn’t crash but the specific port stops working altogether which warrants a reboot.
On top of that, on a pretty much daily basis I have been seeing some sort of catastrophic USB event in which all or most USB devices connected to the laptop either crash or disappear, which only a full reboot of windows will resolve. This has lead to multiple issues while on conference calls in Teams/Zooms, in which my audio stops working and I have no idea that it’s actually not that the meeting has gone quiet but that the laptop has stopped working, as my USB headset/mic will still show as connected/working, they just will not actually be and either a meeting restart or reboot of the laptop is needed to clear it up.
Could these issues be quite easily resolved through a driver update, bug fix or similar? Absolutely! Do I have the time and patience to go off on a deep-dive troubleshooting escapade for a device that I just started using with a fresh install that should simply work out of the box? Absolutely not, especially when considering that the same hardware in terms of audio, USB devices, etc all has worked and continue to work flawlessly on my older Thinkpad laptop.
At this point, I’m thinking that between the value and the build quality it just doesn’t make sense to keep the Framework 16 at least at the current price point, for the subpar hardware and software this first generation is providing. The fact of the matter is, that you can get identical hardware to the F16 at around the $1100 range, which wasn’t quite the case when I pre-ordered it almost a year ago. I’m okay with paying a small premium for modularity, but I don’t think it’s worth doubling the price of the device or paying another $1100 for the privilege of being able to do so, as for that amount of money I could just buy 2 laptops and have a ‘hot spare’ to handle every single possible hardware failure I might experience in the next 5 years. If the Framework 16 was priced at around the $1300-1400 mark, I think it would make a lot more sense to most people. As it stands right now though, it’s at a hefty premium to be a gen1 early adopter because that’s simply how economies of scale work.
Has anyone else had a similar experience and is debating if it's just worth returning the laptop and going to something different in the same price range? I mean, if I’m going to spend $2200 on a laptop I might as well have a dedicated OLED screen, discrete GPU, and aluminum frame for that kind of cost, modularity be damned.
I have high hopes that a few years down the road, when the Framework 16 gen2 or gen3 is out, that most of these build quality and value issues can be resolved. But I can’t afford to be an early adoptebeta tester for a laptop which will be my daily driver for work as I need something that’s reliable and dependable. If this was a true Gen1 early adopter device, like the first gen Framework 13 I could forgive them, but this is their 3rd time around the block releasing hardware-- build-quality/reliability issues should be sorted out by now I'd hope.

For me, I think we’re living in an over exhaustion of late stage capitalism. People are sick of working just to get the next new shiny. And sick that to maintain a family, lover or friends partly one has to worship and buy the next new shiny. Kinda like the downfall of Christianity in the 18th century people want a fresh take on why one should live.
Previous generations may have had more enthusiasm and faith that capitalism was working well. So they hauled ass and move towards the American dream. But we see that its not gonna end well and different ways of living are required. Also, previous generations were living off the last remaining whiffs of virtue in daily life embeded by traditional religions.
An optimistic perspective on this is that its good we are living out the final days of dominant capitalism. Let that shit ride out, lets become so capitalistic its almost satirical. Only when we played this one out fully can society start looking for new and more meaningful ways of living.
I think everyone on this Sub has a talent or alternative way of living that they want to express. Event hough this new way of life cannot be found on the job board, it can be self-created but needs creativity. Whether artistic, spiritual, communal, social responsibility, intellectual etc. it can be built and be made into a way of living.
The whole world will doubt you, but your courage is needed so that we can transition into a new ethos for the world. It may even take in the form of a 9-5 office job, but your unique way and reason to work will be what is revolutionary. So have faith that your fringeness is for a greater good.
The hero before returning home to society has to take a deep restful hermitage. Then once he/she finds out themselves enters the world with a new unique contribution to society.
Lol I guess this is my Jungian and spiritual take on what’s going on. Maybe some realists might say it’s just lazy human nature and there is no benefit in any of this NEET. But even manure is rich for crops, so make best with whatever experience you got.

I’ve noticed a surge of questions revolving around the value of backlinks following Google’s latest updates. Some people claim their backlink effectiveness has been cut in half, others still swear by them, and some SEOs believe that content is now king and backlinks matter less.
Keep in mind that these are all anecdotes from SEOs who may be focused on their own projects and lack the full picture. It’s tough to get a definitive answer, even from SEO influencers. When asked during an AMA, they often start with “It depends” Not super helpful, right?
That’s why I set my sights on big-wig SEO platforms instead. These platforms have tons of data to make better decisions on. Here’s what they have been up to:
  1. SEMrush is focused on improving its Backlink Analytics’ Authority Score. They claim their new score is more accurate than ever because it prioritizes organic traffic and better identifies link spam. They’re making it harder to game the system, representing a step forward in accurately assessing website authority.
  2. SE Ranking’s major update in May prioritized backlinks. SE Ranking touted fresher data, new backlink datasets, and faster detection speeds. Their emphasis on backlinks suggests that backlink age (new vs. old) might play a bigger role than previously thought. If SE Ranking is doubling down on this, maybe we should pay more attention to how fresh our backlinks are.
  3. Ahrefs added a Backlinks Calendar to their Site Explorer, indicating that they believe the timing of building a backlink profile is key. This tool lets you track when backlinks drop off and monitor your profile daily. Ahrefs likely thinks that keeping your backlink data fresh could make a bigger difference to your site's authority than increasing the number of backlinks.
The actions of these major SEO companies suggest that backlinks are still crucial and therefore worth investing in. This is a stark reminder to keep backlinks in our SEO strategy mix.
To everyone who says backlinks are dead and don’t matter anymore in 2024, I’m not completely on board with that. SEO still appears to be a mix of approximately 33% content, 33% backlinks, 33% tech stuff, and 1% luck.

And I wish some of the puzzles didn’t involve scouring a dungeon until a forgotten button or door is dragged into the sunlight. Although the original release is amazing, it’s also nearly impossible to play anymore. For new and old fans, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is an essential addition to the Nintendo Switch library.
