Cipro otic

4 weeks out

2023.09.24 05:07 TheGeneralVita 4 weeks out

Trying to provide hope for the recently floxed.
My story: 38 y/o F got a suspected ear infection while on vacation in Europe, was given otic ofloxacin.
After receiving the meds I suddenly remembered my twin having experienced some tendon issues from an antibiotic, but I couldn’t remember the name of the antibiotic. I texted her, but given the time difference back to the States, she didn’t answer for a few hours. In the intervening time my ears got worse, the paperwork that came with the meds had NO warning about tendon issues in the list of side effects, so I went ahead and figured what affected her must’ve been something else.
I put 10 drops in each ear following the directions on the paperwork. Then a few hours later my sister reached me to say “NO don’t take it, I was poisoned by cipro! Ofloxacin isn’t cipro but they’re both floroquinolones!”
I immediately freak out, try to wash my ears out, take charcoal orally (not even sure if that would do anything), and hope for the best.
The same night I got tingling on my mouth and tongue. By morning both of my ankles and knees were feeling very tight, heavy, and unusual. My husband was skeptical and wanted to continue sightseeing that day, so we did. I struggled to get up all the hills and stairs in Portugal for the rest of the week. We had to stop every 30 min to sit (absolutely not typical for me, I had just gotten off of an intensive month long dance program that required 5 consecutive hours of training 6 days a week — I’m typically extremely active and do not tire easily).
For the rest of that week I was nauseous and dizzy and suffered from the aforementioned strange aches and pains in my joints that seemed to wander around my body based on what I was doing (achy hands and wrists when on the phone or computer, achy ankles and knees when walking, if we walked even more my hips started to ache as well and then eventually my back). I couldn’t get up or down stairs without using both hands on the handrails. I had to lean on my husband for support wherever we walked, and I was getting really scared.
Once back home in the States I saw my doctor who seemed incredulous and had no recommendations on what to do, other than take ibuprofen and wait for my “immune system to bounce back.” (So thankful that due to this group I did not take her suggestion of using ibuprofen for relief).
I work as a PT part time and as a dance instructor part time, so every part of my occupation requires my body be healthy. This was tearing me apart emotionally and I even wondered if I would have to quit my jobs. I was finding that at work even my speech was affected, the longer I spoke the harder it would get to swallow. While driving my rotator cuff would be aching and my legs would fatigue simply from driving.
Fastforward: I am currently 4 weeks out and feeling 60% better. Thanks to this group I was exposed early to ways to try to help my body recover. Luckily since day one my sister suggested I eat lots of nuts for magnesium, for the rest of my trip I was slamming almonds, but once I got back home I started taking: Mg glycinate, COQ10, multivitamin, Vita D, and ALA.
Unfortunately due to my responsibilities I was unable to take time off of work and teaching and have had to be pretty active in the three weeks since I’ve been home. This was painful and stressful as I was concerned with every move that this would be the moment a tendon ruptured. One thing that is helping and I’m not sure if this is placebo effect, is spraying my joints before activity with pure magnesium oil.
In the last week I’ve started making myself sugar free matcha lattes (I never had insomnia as a symptom and only had anxiety for about two weeks) spiked with collagen powder for the antioxidants and joint protection. Midday I’ve been making fresh blueberry lemonade for the VitaC and antioxidants. In the evening I’ve been making myself a turmeric “latte.” I’ve been trying to sleep as much as possible and eat as many fruits and vegetables that I can. This week I’ve really started to feel better and at times several hours can pass without me noticing my side effects.
I’m not 100% well at all yet— still dealing with cracking joints, ongoing ankle and knee pain which mostly affects my peroneals bilaterally. I have always had plantar fasciitis due to being on my feet all day most days and this definitely flared after being floxed. If I’m doing computer work too long I’ll get tired and achy wrists and fingers. But overall if my healing stopped here I am hopeful that I would be able to manage with my current limitations.
Things I’m still avoiding: NSAIDs, Flonase (I used to take this daily to deal with allergies)
Activities I want to return to but still won’t dare to try: yoga (the thought of weight bearing on my arms makes me too nervous for my wrists), weightlifting or squatting of any kind (I used to be able to squat to the floor), running, jumping
Anyway, even though I’m not fully healed I hope that my recovery can help someone going through the early days of this BS to not spiral out of control with fear and anxiety. Yes, this experience absolutely sucks and is disruptive and even devastating, but try to keep your mind positive while taking this one day at a time. I realize that my side effects are relatively mild compared to others, but know that I am thinking of you and promise to do what I can to spread awareness of this poisonous drug to those outside of this group and to advocate for us as a collective wherever we find opportunities to advance treatments for FQ toxicity and increase awareness of the risks of these drugs by prescribing physicians. Sending positivity to each of you!

2022.11.20 20:43 NewspaperFinancial79 I AM BACK BABY (21M) 120lbs

Different account, floxed on September 15th by 8 pills of 500mg cipro. This was my third time taking this antibiotic I had it once in 2016 a full course and again full course I'm 2017. This time around though I couldn't walk for the first two weeks of my floxing. I had awful anxiety for the first two months that improved rapidly thereafter. The past two weekends I have been hunting hard, tripping and falling over rocks and logs. I got drunk and wrestled my younger brother who is much stronger than me, and fell into a truck hitch this weekend lol. All of the tendons in my legs are at full strength. I exersize regularly and eat whatever I want. You guys will make it through these tough times, never give up hope. I couldn't have dreamed a recovery this fast after all the dark days doom scrolling in this sub. I have occasional wrist and ankle soreness but not even 10% of what I dealt with in the past few months. I had one flair up from an otic antibiotic that was stuffed in my ear after the surgery thay quickly resolved in about a weeks time. I stopped magnesium last month with no issues. In the early stages I took lots of high quality protein powders and ate red meat and eggs almost exclusively. I found several exersizes that didn't hurt me about one month in, and helped me back to my former self. I have had 4 ear infections since my cipro, guessing due to complications with immune system, and had a surgery in my left ear on an abcess. This was a dark journey for me and my heart goes out to those of you who have long term cases, but I really want to spread the word to the young people in here that you have a fantastic chance at putting what these doctors did to you in the past forever. Give it time, and things will get better. If you want to know anything about my recovery I will give you my phone number and try to answer you as quickly as I can. I am going back to work in two weeks after im done deer hunting. I lost my HVAC job in September when this all happened. The human body is such an amazing thing, treat yourself the best you can and reach out to the people in your life who will be understanding of this invisible illness, it's very hard to fight this battle alone. God bless you

2022.10.07 01:01 whereami312 Cipro HC Otic pricing [USA]

(Caveat: I’ve been out of retail for a while so I have no idea what’s happening with pricing these days.) Is there seriously no generic for cipro hc otic? One of my research pts was just ordered this on an outpt basis and we’re doing med reconciliation and they tell me that they never picked it up because they couldn’t afford the copay (pt has commercial insurance). Of course they’re completely symptomatic and the treating MD has no clue till I flagged this for review. I checked the mfr website and there’s no patient assistance program that I can find. Any idea what resources are available? Or just “fu, die from an ear infection because you’re poor”?

2022.06.16 03:14 mariewaslike Cipro/dexameth otic drops

Hi! So I’m not super how to start this, but slightly anxious that I’ve reacted to this medication. On May 13 I was given this drop set for a pretty bad ear infection. My ear was nearly swollen shut, painful, and extra gross. It was the left ear.
My last day on it was May 22nd.
Well. I no longer have the ear infection, though my tragus is a little swollen still, and I get random pain in my ear. Dr’s haven’t been concerned here.
On June 5th I started getting a tingly sensation that actually felt like it was in the roof of my mouth on the right side. I panicked and assumed it was my teeth so I made an appointment to see my dentist. Turns out everything was totally fine teeth wise. (Dentist on June 7th)
June 9th Now my whole right side of my face is this tingly sensation. Like I could feel stuff on that side, but it was much duller than on my left. Went to urgent care. Urgent care had no idea so sent me to ER.
CT fine, they said I had a bladder infection and prescribed cephalexin. Send a referral to neuro.
June 10th Right side foot getting the same tingling as right side face.
June 12 Sudden sharp PAINFUL right knee pain. Like right inside my knee. Couldn’t straighten my leg without pain. (Not a sublux or dislocation) Immediately iced and ibuprofen. Knee felt better, now it’s just ever so slightly tender. & things feel loose when I walk. Burning sensation on forearm (right) tingling went up to thigh. So from foot to thigh on right side. Right side face is still having the same issue.
June Monday 13th Burning knees both. Still same tingling sensations. Lightheaded. Evening left foot to knee has the same tingling suddenly. Evening felt like sharp pain in my left foot on the top. (Pain was dispersed like random dots of pain)
June 14 Saw neuro (a battle to find one who could see me sooner than October. Thankfully a cancellation happened at one 2 hours away!) she isn’t super sure. But doesn’t believe it’ll be MS since the ‘pattern’ isn’t the same. MRI without contrast scheduled for 28 to confirm but she feels very confident. Which is good. (Re checked and it’s an MRI with and without contrast)
SO. I was googling my symptoms & stumbled on some dr man in LA who treats people who have been ‘floxed’. I then read the inserts. It says to not use with those who have connective tissue disorders. I have hEDS. So I shouldn’t have been given it. But it’s my fault since I didn’t know it would be relevant to the ear infection/getting medicine.
I have printed off so much stuff on literally very similar symptoms I’m having related to this. But I can’t find anything being specifically for the otic route for an ear infection. My Dr sent an order for an EMG test, and I see my cardiologist next week (POTS). But now I’m freaking the hell out. I’m a mom, and have two kids & I just don’t not need more shit. 😩 has anyone else had this with otic? Or am I crazy lol. I saw an FDA warning but it only shows injection & oral use. My script was just the ear drop version from DR Reddy’s lab filled by Walgreens.
Edited to add the MRI is with and without contrast, I misread. I think I read in here or somewhere else to not do contrast?

2020.05.23 04:09 OnceYouGoBlastYouGo I'm feeling sting and pain in my left perforated eardrum with an ear infection after administration of Ciprofloxacin (0.3%) antibacterial sterile otic drops, I got up after "bathing" it for 3mins.

[19M] This is an update to my recent post regarding this matter, the prescription/s of my ENT consultant physician had included Celecoxib 200mg w/c should be intaked 2x a day if I felt pain, and I just did, is it normal if I felt pain for the first time after the otic drop penetrated my left perforated eardrum with ear infection?
Should I lower the duration of "bathing" my medication (Cipro) to 1min. max? In the manual within the little parcel, it stated to only be min. 30 sec., and I've done my fair share of little research and I saw that it should be left in the affected ear for at least 1min.. Any suggestions? Ty in advance, stay safe out there and wash you hands w/ soap...

2020.05.22 14:53 OnceYouGoBlastYouGo Should Ciprofloxacin (0.3%) antibacterial otic drop penetrate the middle ear?

19M, So when I had the aid of my parent, I had let it bathe in my affected left ear infection for about 1 minute, I have searched how long should I let the Cipro bathe in the ear, and most results that the solution should stay for at least 1 minute, but after applying it, I got up after 1 min. & 30 sec., and didn't feel it penetrate, did I do it wrong? Shall I let the sol. bathe longer, 5 min? And I had searched this helpful vid on YT.
Is it advisable to pump the tragal cartilage to let easy flow and penetration? Factos that had affected in this issue was the clogged mucus fluid(?) or earwax buildup seems to harden and now it blocks the pathway for feasible administration of my otic drops... I need help, ty in advance

Update Cipro Journey
Hey everyone so heres an update from my last post https://www.reddit.com/floxies/comments/dcz8pi/1st_time_ciprofloxacin_user_concerns_with_side/

I went to the hospital for some tests (blood, urine,CT scan) and everything came back okay. Although, I started to get a ringing in my hear that night and my balance was off. I went today to the docs and he said I had fluid in my ear (my right is the worst affected) and he prescribed ear drops "Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Hydrocortisone Otic Suspension, USP". Now this is a steroid and antibiotic from what I was told from the pharmacist. I'm reluctant to put drops in my ear for fear of further bad reactions. I took 2,500mg of cipro and its day 5 since I last took a dose and I've had 2 IVs done (one with vitamins) since then and I've also started a natural detox plan for my stomach. I am thinking of starting off only with one drop in one ear and see what happens.. thoughts ?

Also I want to thank the various users who commented on my last post and I hope those affected will feel better, Godspeed.

UPDATED: Yea so I went to my regular doc and he found nothing wrong with my ears so no need for me risking my health.
