2024.05.21 20:41 Mystery-Guru Whispers of the Wind

A warm breeze ruffled Claire’s hair as she stood by the edge of Silver Lake, the setting sun painting the sky in hues of pink and gold. She was watching me skip stones across the water, her smile as bright as the sunset.
“Hey, Claire, watch this one!” I called out, winding up for another throw. The stone flew gracefully, skimming the surface three, four, five times before sinking.
“Not bad,” she said, teasingly. “But I think you can do better.”
I turned to her, seeing a playful glint in her eyes. “Oh, I can definitely do better,” I said, stepping closer. “But don’t think I’m talking about skipping stones.”
Her cheeks flushed, and I could see the excitement and nervousness in her eyes. We had known each other since high school, but it wasn’t until recently that our friendship had deepened into something more. The way she looked at me now, with a mix of affection and longing, made my heart race.
I took her hand, feeling a thrill run through me. “Come on,” I said softly. “There’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you.”
We walked together along the lake’s edge, the world around us fading into the background. It felt like we were in our own little bubble, where nothing else mattered. I stopped and turned to face her, taking both her hands in mine.
“Claire, I’ve been trying to find the right words for weeks now,” I began, my voice earnest. “You’ve always been my best friend, but lately, it’s been more than that. I think I’m falling in love with you.”
Her breath caught, and she whispered, “Ben, I feel the same way. I love you too.”
We leaned in, our lips meeting in a tender kiss as the last rays of the sun disappeared. For a moment, everything was perfect. But a strange chill ran through me as the wind picked up, rustling the leaves in an unsettling way. I shook it off, focusing on the warmth of Claire’s embrace.
As we continued our walk, the sky began to change, turning a strange, ominous shade of green. A shiver of unease ran down my spine, but I brushed it off. Spring weather in our small Oklahoma town was often unpredictable.
“Do you see the sky?” Claire asked, her voice tense.
“Yeah, it’s weird. Do you think we should head back?” I replied, looking around nervously.
A brief second later a loud siren wailed through the air, making my heart drop. The tornado warning. We had heard it many times before, but this time it felt different. More urgent.
“We need to find shelter,” I said, grabbing her hand. But there was no time to find a proper shelter; a monstrous funnel cloud was forming in the distance, growing larger and more terrifying by the second.
“Run!” I shouted, pulling Claire with me as we sprinted away from the lake. The wind howled around us, and the sky darkened ominously. As we ran, I glanced back and saw the tornado touching down, its roar deafening.
We ducked behind an old, sturdy oak tree, hoping it would provide some protection. The ground trembled beneath our feet as the tornado raged closer, ripping apart everything in its path. I could hear the sounds of destruction – trees snapping, buildings in the nearby town being torn apart, before the unearthly wail of the wind muffled out any other sound. I wrapped my arms around Claire, trying to shield her from the flying debris.
“Hold on!” I shouted over the roar, my voice barely audible. “We’ll get through this!”
But the force of the storm was relentless. The tree we were hiding behind groaned and then snapped, sending us tumbling to the ground. I felt Claire’s grip on my hand loosen, and panic surged through me.
“Claire!” I screamed, but my voice was swallowed by the wind. I could barely see through the chaos, debris flying everywhere. I crawled toward where I had last seen her, but the tornado was too powerful. The world spun around me, a blur of destruction.
Then, as suddenly as it had begun, the tornado moved on, leaving an eerie silence in its wake. I struggled to my feet, my body aching and covered in cuts and bruises. The landscape was unrecognizable, homes reduced to rubble, and debris scattered everywhere.
“Claire!” I called out, my voice hoarse and desperate. I stumbled through the wreckage, my heart pounding with fear. “Claire, where are you!?”
There was no response, just the haunting silence of a world turned upside down. I looked around, my heart sinking. The beautiful, serene place where Claire and I had confessed our love was gone, replaced by a nightmare. I searched frantically, calling her name, but she was nowhere to be found.
Days turned into weeks, and the search efforts dwindled. The townspeople, resilient as ever, began to rebuild their lives, but I couldn’t move on. Every day I return to Silver Lake, hoping against hope to find any sign of Claire. But each time, I have left with nothing but the echo of my own despair.
As time has passed, the memories of that fateful evening became both my solace and my torment. I stand by the lake, the place where we had shared our first kiss, and listen to the wind rustling through the trees. Sometimes, on those quiet, lonely nights, I could swear I can hear her voice, soft and distant, carried by the breeze.
“Ben,” the wind would whisper, sending a shiver down my spine. “Why did you let me go?”
I would close my eyes, haunted by the guilt and the sound of her voice, so real yet so elusive. “It wasn’t my fault,” I would murmur to the empty air, hoping for absolution that never came. “I tried to save you.”
But when I opened my eyes, she was never there. Only the endless expanse of the lake and the memories of a love lost to the storm. The whispers grew more frequent, and the tone more accusing as time went on.
“Ben,” the wind would hiss, colder each time. “You let me go.”
Claire is gone, yet somehow, in the whisper of the wind and the rustling of the leaves, she has remained with me. Her voice, now an eerie echo, reminding me of my failure, a spectral presence that has refused to let me forget. And in those fleeting moments, I find no comfort, only the relentless weight of guilt and the chilling certainty that her spirit holds me accountable.

2024.05.21 20:39 rainman24588 Rim Westworld or Why you whouldn't build with wood

Yes we all know the dangers of wood and I'm sure you probably know where this story is going but sometimes for roleplaying purposes it's neccesary. So...
My current save is a role play of an old west town. I started with 3 colonists, aptly named after the 3 Amigos, Lucky, Ned & Dusty. They rode in to a dustbowl and soon built a prospering farm and ranch. Soon enough the little farm became a community of 10 and a small town developed.
Every member pulled their weight but most important was Morg, the first to join and the main Horse Rancher. She was bonded with all but the 3 horses our heroes rode in on and was a battle hardened veteran, having single handedly cleared out an ambush when on her way to peace talks with a local tribe.
Mord met and got engaged to Raido, the saloon owner, and they moved in to his loft above the bar the same day he popped the question. The townsfolk had been feeling a little down lately and this news gave them renewed optomism and so, with a little planning, the construction of a new church, with Morg and Raidos wedding to be the first celebration, got underway.
The town had built up a good surplus of stuck so all hands were on deck for the construction. Within 2 days the walls were erected, then began the painstaking task of laying the massive floor. Those less skilled soon proved to be more of a hinderance so whilst the rest were sent away Ned and Dusty vowed to finish the job alone.
They toiled for 3 days, by which point the floor was still only half finished. Exhausted they dropped in to bed. It felt like only seconds before Kane was shaking them awake, raiders had been spotted by the night guardsman. A large group, bigger than we'd ever seen. He rushed to wake the others.
Metting outside the saloon the colonists noticed a member missing. Nolerboa, their newest member. Kane had left them sleeping, they hadn't yet been outfitted with a weapon and they didn't fully trust their new raider turned recruit.
The raiders attacked from multiple points forcing the townsfolk to split up around the palisade wall, firing pot shots at the rushing foe.
Lucky, Tail and Kane took the main force who broke through the palsiade wall before being beaten back leaving 1 member behind to be captured. Ned, Raido and Morgan took the next group trying to break through the East gate, they were quickly dispatched before a lone raider, who had slipped around the side unnoticed and broken through a wall downed Morgan. The gang quickly returned fire and Ned grabbed the downed Morgan to get him to safety.
Dusty and Morg took the last raider, the only one on horse back, they thought about going for their own horses but the paddock was the other end of the town and they didn't have time. They dashed across the open ground of the church yard and took cover behind the palisade. They fired a few waning shots at the raider who returned fire immediately. The first bullet found a small gap in the palisade and tore in to Morgs chest obliterating her heart. Dusty struck back and dispatched the raider but it was too late. The colony had suffered their first loss. As the few surviving raiders retreated, the wounded and captured returned to the town whilst a new threat emerged. As the raiders spread around the town they set numerous fires around the palisade wall, fires that had had to be ignored in the heat of battle. Now there was heat of a different kind, 5 different fires slowly spreading out in a circle around the town. The church with its brand new wood floor is of course next to the largest of the spreading flames.
I'm not sure if everyone is going to get out alive from this. But the one thing I do know is that at least Nolerboa is well rested...
When you say you can sleep through anything and you mean it!

2024.05.21 20:39 Mawksie Pulling and Team Building for beginners

Hi everyone!
Likely the most common type of post in this sub is asking for guidance about what current/upcoming characters would most benefit their account to pull. I've dipped into a few of these threads to offer what insight I have, but I feel like there are some basic principles that are easy to see once you've played for a while that are less obvious when you first start, and talking about those might help more people than handing out fish individually.
Disclaimer: I'm not a hardcore player. I don't whale (monthly passes and NH only). I couldn't recognize a damage simulation calculation if it hit my mother. My main qualification to talk about this is being a person who has played every day since release, and since about three months after that, hasn't gotten less than max stars in every MoC/PF. I'm what I assume most would call a "successful casual" player. So if that's your current goal, I'm hoping I can help.
Second Disclaimer: YOU ARE HERE TO HAVE FUN, IF SOMEONE LOOKS COOL TO YOU, PULL FOR THEM. Everything below is for getting your account on it's feet as fast as possible, but ultimately the only factor in HSR is time. No matter who you pull, your account will have everything it needs eventually, and you WILL get all those stars. If you're in no rush, skip my post since it will only be as valuable as who-to-pull advice as /okbuddytrailblazer. Remember: If you aint mirin' your fun is expirin'

~-~Okay, but who should I pull??~-~

You're first priority should always be a powerful sustain unit.
Why?
Because with a reasonable investment, the 4* damage units on your team will do just fine (for now). Pulling a damage unit is tempting in the beginning because big numbers and flashy animations are cool (and listen, I know thats why we're all here), but you don't get to see those big numbers and animations if your damage dealer is dead. The biggest jump in the power and confy-ness of my account was upgrading Bailu to Fu-Xuan. Suddenly my team was surviing long enough to finish fights that seemed like close-calls at best a day prior. My damage was still middling, but at least I was surviving long enough to deal it.
"Okay, but what makes a sustain unit good? Aren't all limited sustains better than 4*/Bailu?"
While most/all limited sustains will broadly be better than 4*/Bailu, they are not all going to be equally valuable to an in-progress account. As of right now, pretty much all of the released sustain units are top tier and worth getting for new accounts, but as more are released, you're going to see units fit more into niches that are much more valuable to more established accounts that can take advantage of those niches, and much less valuable to new accounts that mostly just need to cover the basics.
"The basics" just refers to two things, mainly:
  1. Can your sustain unit heal/block enough damage to keep your units alive?
  2. Can your sustain cleanse/prevent CC effects that would hamper your team's ability to do their job?
So a quick breakdown of the current sustains and how they cover those basics:
Luocha
  1. Potent single target heals with free casts, and potent off-turn healing means any damage that doesnt outright one-shot your team is healed back to full quickly and easily
  2. His ability when triggered manually or through his passive, cleanses, allowing for quick reactions to CC
FuXuan
  1. Extreme damage mitigation and small heals allow teams to easily survive all but the most punishing content
  2. Once-per-cast ability blocks single or team-wide CC
Huohuo
  1. Insane ability healing output, plus consistent off-turn healing keeps teams alive, albeit at an SP cost
  2. Her ability's target, as well as all recipients of her off-turn healing are cleansed, making pretty much all negative effects complete non-issues.
Aventurine
  1. High value shields that self refreshes if they survive long enough give comfy margins for even big incoming damage
  2. Self-CC immunity plus reasonable CC resist on his shield mean your only real enemy is bad luck
Any of these units will make your main team feel near-invincible.
But what about upcoming sustains? Will they be just as good?
Maybe! We can look at the kits of some 4* sustains to see what more niche sustain kits may look like in the future:
Gallagher:
  1. Fair healing output, but requires the injured party to attack or else costs 1SP to heal directly.
  2. Cleanse on ability, but locked behind E2. Only on-turn, costs SP.
  3. Break effect debuff on ult/EBA means synergy with teams that benefits from debuffs/BE.
Gallagher's sustain capabilities aren't much compared to the limited units'. But he has a place in teams that will benefit from his strong debuff, as they may not need as much healing/cleansing due to knocking-the-bajesus out of the enemy before they can attack. Valuable to someone with Acheron? Absolutely! Is he going to keep your level 40 QingQue alive long enough to kill the Deer? Probably not.

~-Okay, I have a plan to get a sustain, can I blow something up now?-~

Yes! But, just like sustains, there are going to be things to look out for to get the most out of your first limited damage-dealer.
1. Is your DPS going to struggle if the enemy is not weak to their element?
2. Is your DPS going to struggle because they lack an essential partner unit you don't own?
3. What situation is your DPS built to handle?
So are other DPS units not worth getting?
Every limited DPS unit in the game has a place and team that makes them amazing. Once your account is getting its full value out of the biweekly challenges, then the best value comes from building synergies.

~-Okay I have my damage dealer, and they're staying alive. Why are my numbers so much lower than the ones I see in screenshots and videos?-~

When you first start HSR, it seems like the real heroes are the damage dealers "WoAw That Acheron just hit an Ult for 850k!"
But did they? or was it the Silver Wolf and Pela standing behind her?
The real excitement now, is in the buffers/debuffers
Limited Harmony (and utility Nihility) units are the last piece to the puzzle. Not only will they give you screenshot-worthy damage numbers, but they have much more broad appeal to teams than other roles.
While certain teams want certain stats more than others, ultimately, stats are stats, and whether that means you're going faster, hitting harder, or getting more energy for ultimates, your DPS units will almost always benefit from a limited support unit.
There aren't that many of them, so lets talk about all of them and what makes them good.
1. Bronya
2. RuanMei
3. SParkle
4. Robin
5. Silver Wolf
6. Harmony Trailblazer

~-I have a character for all three roles! Now what?-~

At this point, you should be able to capable handle at least one side of MoC/PF, and you'll want to shift focus to your second team, but this is much more open ended, so let just talk about some considerations that will make choosing new characters easier. Remember that ultimately your goal is to have teams that can reliably clear the biweekly challenges and SU modules.
1. Do you already have units that have synergy with the new units?
2. Do you have coverage for the weaknesses of your current teams?
3. Is a new unit going to require a ton of investment to come online?

~-TLDR;-~

2024.05.21 20:34 Putridlemons AITAH for requesting that my brother not leave blood stains all over the bathroom floor.

For some context, I (19F) live with my parents and my brother (22M). My parents share a bathroom, and unfortunately I have always been forced to use the same bathroom as my brother.
My brother is high-functioning autistic, while I am diagnosed with my own plethora of mental disorders & impairments, the one that affects me the most being Borderline Personality Disorder, developed due to the way my parents treated me or rather neglected my emotional needs as a child and consistently prioritized my brother over me. To the extent of sending me away to my grandparents house for the first 12 years of my life because my parents found it easier to send me away than have to punish my brother for the way he abused me in childhood and have to constantly hear my pleads for help.
Over the last 2-3 years there has been a consistent issue with my brother spending his "shower time" in the bathroom picking at his feet, and then walking across the bath mat we have in there and leaving blood stains all over it. I struggle heavily with the fear of "contamination" and coming in contact with another persons blood, vomit, defecation, or mucus is enough to send me over the edge into a breakdown, I find it absolutely disgusting and it's something that I can't break out of even with therapy or medication.
I have to consistently take the blood-covered bath mat out of the bathroom to avoid stepping on it when I get out of the shower and to avoid walking across it when I have to use the toilet. At least once a week I have to throw the mat into the garage for my dad to use peroxide to clean out the stains because I physically cannot do it without gagging and throwing up. My PHYSICALLY DISABLED dad is the person that always ends up having to clean out the blood stains from my brother, because my brother has mastered the art of weaponized incompetence.
He will stand there and act stupid, pretend not to know where things are or how to clean things properly to the point where my dad will just say "fuck it let me do it myself since you cant". He does this to get out of almost anything he doesn't want to do. My brother is high-functioning autistic, not slow or stupid. He is advanced and smart and most certainly capable. I have watched him manipulate my parents since I was a little kid and it infuriates me.
About a year ago I reached my breaking point with the bath mat. I went in the bathroom to use the shower and there were deep blood stains ALL over the mat, not even an inch of space that was safe for me to step on. This started to send me into a breakdown and pissed me off to the point of a rage episode. When I brought it up, my brother tried to gaslight my parents into believing that the blood stains were from my period, when I hadn't had a period in well over a year because I have been on progesterone (a pill that prevents a period) since the beginning of 2023. Not to mention even if I was having my period, it's not like I would be free bleeding in the bathroom and leaving a bunch of toe-print stains all over the bath mat. TMI but I used tampons, it's not like when I had a period I was experiencing leakage.
Then, when the period excuse didn't work on my parents, he started to try and manipulate them into believing that me leaving a hairbrush/toothbrush on the counter, or having a bottle of shampoo in the shower, or sometimes leaving a shirt or towel on the floor (I would put a shirt or towel over the bathmat to avoid stepping in blood) was somehow equal and justified to him leaving blood all over the floor, and what pissed me off the most is that my parents agreed with him.
All 3 of them told me that I was overreacting, that I was being dramatic, and what hurt me most of all is my mom saying "Well if you hate living here so much, get the fuck out. Move out. Find somewhere else to go." Simply because I had an issue with stepping in someone elses biohazard.
Because I don't have the option to move out or go anywhere, I was forced to just shut up about it and hope that things would get better. I told my parents that "I'll keep the bathroom clean, there won't be any more towels on the floor, or hairbrushes on the counter, I won't leave shirts in the bathroom anymore, so I expect my brother to uphold his end of the deal and not leave blood on the mat anymore considering somehow those things are "equal".
It's been a year since then. I have not left clothes in the bathroom, I have not left towels on the floor, I have not left anything that belongs to me out on the counters other than my toothbrush which I use twice a day, and there is still blood being left on the bath mat. I am still begging my parents to this day to hold him accountable or do something about the fact that he won't stop doing it. He doesn't pick his feet in his room, blood is not an issue anywhere else in the house BUT the bath mat, and at this point I'm taking it personally because I've expressed to him before how much it bothers me, he simply just doesn't care, and this isn't the only "contamination" issue I have with him when it comes down to sharing a bathroom.
He also loves to spit toothpaste gunk and mucus all over the faucet when he brushes his teeth. It's like aiming into the sink is impossible for him. It gets all over the faucet, the faucet that I have to touch to turn on/off the water to wash my hands which defeats the purpose of washing my hands because the second my hands are clean I have to touch something that's covered in another persons spit to turn off the damn water.
I can feel myself slowly reaching the breaking point that I had last year, and every single time I bring up the bloody bathmat to my parents, I get met with "We will talk to him" or "There's nothing we can do". They don't see it as a big issue, because they don't live with it or use that bathroom. I'm also not allowed to use my parents bathroom, so I'm stuck using the one I share with my brother.
Every time I get upset about the bathmat I'm treated like I'm crazy, like I'm insane and being overdramatic and irrational. I get treated like I'm selfish and that I'm an asshole who takes my living situation for granted, like I'm a spoiled brat for requesting the simplest amount of human decency and consideration. It's gotten to a point where I've had to rely on substances just to not be as bothered by that damn bathroom. I'm forgetting what day it is, what year it is, if I've eaten that day, what I've done that day, my perception of the passing of time has gotten so fucked up from the substance use because it offers me the small little bit of relief that my parents or my brother refuse to give me.
I talked to my mom about it today, and I got once again met with the "I'll talk to him", but they never do. I know this is going to continue regardless of what they say to me, because them putting in the effort to hold my brother accountable is more work for them, and ever since childhood, they would rather just let me suffer and deal with it because it's easier.
I genuinely have no idea what to do. I have no idea how to stop this or put an end to it, but I can feel myself reaching my breaking point again, and the last time I went through that intense rage episode it scared me. Being consumed with that much rage to the point of feeling physically exausted from the amount of adrenaline and anger that festered within me for so long, I don't like that feeling, the feeling of wanting to punch, kick, scream at, and hurt another human being because the rage inside of me is so powerful and debilitating that holding it inside physically hurts. I'm not a hurtful person, I don't want to ever put hurt on another person or harm others, but this has begun to change me as a person and I don't like what it's doing to me.
If you have any advice or ideas, things that won't resort in me being homeless, please let me know. I don't know what to do and this is destroying me from the inside out.

2024.05.21 20:29 FromTheLandOfLizards Critique my layout/design?

Critique my layout/design?
Hi all. I am in the midst of a big renovation, and was wondering if anyone would take a look at my plans and offer any feedback. This kitchen is going into a room that is currently empty, so it's a bit of a blank slate. I'm open to any suggestions, including completely different layouts, cabinet selection, aesthetic choices, etc.
Notes on us:
  • My wife and I both cook a lot (at the same time), and entertain friends, so this will be a space we spend a lot of time in.
  • We want it to be very functional for cooking while also being a place where 6 adults and a few kids can comfortably gather and have beverages and apps etc.
  • Our dining room is adjacent to this kitchen, so we won't be eating every meal at the island, but will probably use it often in a social setting, and also when feeding/eating with our toddler.
  • The deck (out the sliding door) will be used a ton, for grilling, eating, entertaining, etc
Notes on my design/renders
  • My hand-drawn layout is 6" per square and to scale
  • I couldn't figure out how to add the microwave in the IKEA SW, but it should be to the right of the sink
  • I couldn't figure out how to add a backsplash in the IKEA SW, but I'm thinking a pretty plain tile backsplash along the entire stove wall
  • The small sink area near the window is intended as a prep/beverage area. Fancy glasses and cocktail shakers on the open shelves, liquor in the nearby uppers. I'm considering adding an under-counter fridge as well.
  • The counter to the left of the fridge would be a coffee/tea station, with a coffee maker and espresso machine.
  • Assume the sides/back of the island are the same color as the accent wall. SW limitations again.
I know this is a long post, thanks in advance for reading and giving any feedback!

2024.05.21 20:25 Comprehensive-Ad9653 Trouble with Serverless Task Billing

Trouble with Serverless Task Billing
Can someone help me understand how to see the billing for serverless tasks? I will provide screenshots and queries for what I am currently seeing. But things aren't adding up.
Here is the billing for all serverless tasks totaling .3 credits
Here is the total execution time of the serverless tasks by warehouse (I think)
The part I'm not understanding is that I clearly have enough execution time to be surpassing ATLEAST 1 single credit (should be much more). But the serverless_task_history says otherwise. This can't be right, but I don't know another way to view this information as these warehouses don't show up in most views. Also, why does serverless_task_history only go back 12 days for me? I know there have been runs before then.

I'd really like to know if:
1) I'm getting underbilled (that'd be sweet)
2) I'm not looking in the right place to see my actual billing from these
3) Snowflake just doesn't have good visibility into serverless task billing (this would be a problem)

at this point, nobody is surprised to hear about how the small businesses in lawrence pretend to be something that they’re not. anyone who has worked at a downtown/downtown adjacent business can tell you how different things are behind the scenes. every business has its own version of service culture. people tend to hang out where they work and/or with their coworkers. restaurants usually cultivate unhealthy drinking habits with post-work drink traditions. coffee shops and bakeries that underpay employees, using tips to compensate an hourly wage. bars that encourage unhealthy drinking and drug habits, exploit women who work for them, and have harassment or assault allegations. retail shops that buy cheap unethically produced products and sell them as “handmade”, then force the employees to be salespeople as an excuse to not pay them a proper hourly wage. i think it’s clear to many that it’s nearly impossible to have a completely ethical business practice. although, there’s a certain bad taste that comes with the facade that lawrence small businesses create a positive community. most people that you talk to can tell you how they’ve lost hope for a better work environment through working at business after business where the employers don’t respect or value those that work for them. it’s a special kind of exploitation when you are sold the idea that a smaller businesses can teach you skills and give you freedom and experience that corporate places can’t/won’t. there are very few businesses i feel comfortable supporting anymore. i can’t recommend any of the businesses i’m listing below, primarily because of the terrible ownership and treatment of their employees. (focusing mostly on the downtown area) - Javabreak - 715 - Basil Leaf Cafe - Wheatfields - Great Harvest - Cellar Door Cafe (& Decade when they were still open, same ownership) - Sunflower Outdoor & Bike Shop - Sylas & Maddy’s - ATC - Wildman - The Mad Greek - Minsky’s - The Striped Cow/Third Planet (same ownership) - Leroy’s - The Burgerstand - Merchants - Bon Bon/Taco Zone (same ownership since TZ was bought out) - Henry’s/Grounded (same ownership) - Wildside - Logie’s (probably doesn’t even need to be said, but i’ll include it just because) - Milton’s - Culinaria - Lawrence Beer Company - Wine & Dive - 1900 BarkeBarker on Mass/Taylor’s Donuts (same ownership) - Jazzhaus - McClain’s - Limestone - Louise’s/Big Mill (same ownership) I’m sure there are more places I’m missing, feel free to list them below

2024.05.21 20:22 MLG_Obardo Hellblade II reviews are in!

SENUA RETURNS IN A BRUTAL SAGA OF SURVIVAL
• Intent on saving those who have fallen victim to the horrors of tyranny, Senua faces a battle of overcoming the darkness within and without. • Sink deep into the next chapter of Senua’s story, a crafted experience told through cinematic immersion, beautifully realised visuals and encapsulating sound.
MetaCritic - 81 as of posting
IGN - 8/10
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II delivers a spellbinding adventure packed with cinematic spectacle and story surprises that maintains a surging sense of forward momentum and never wastes a second of its slender run time. Its combat manages to feel consistently intimidating and immediate despite its mechanical simplicity, and its perspective-based puzzles regularly scratch cerebral itches even though they largely rehash or rework concepts from Senua’s previous story. A journey as brutal as it is beautiful delivered with hardware-pushing visuals and persistently absorbing audio, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is another Viking-worthy feast for the senses that meets the high bar set by its predecessor, even if it never really manages to clear it.
The Gamer - 3/5
It's easy to focus on Hellblade 2's flaws because they are so surface level. Combat is repetitive and made an unnecessary focal point. The extra characters dilute instead of adding. I'm still not sure what Hellblade thinks it is, or wants to be. But deeper than that, there is some quality worth rooting for - an interesting protagonist powered by a brilliant performance, ingenious use of the environment for exploration and puzzles, a true electric miracle of motion capture unfolding before our eyes.
VGC - 3/5
Ultimately, Hellblade 2 has to be considered a stumble as Xbox gets its first-party story back on track. The game will likely receive some acclaim during the coming awards season, but this will almost certainly be on a technical basis, and not related to how the game actually plays.
GameRant - 4/5
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 swings for the fences with a unique narrative, complex themes, top-tier graphics, superb sound design, and crisp animation. In trying to curate a cinematic experience, though, the game can feel less interactive and more prescribed. Combat is chunky and vicious, but it is not as involved as most character action games. You merely go through the motions when solving its puzzles, even if they are visually interesting. And moving from point A to point B doesn’t offer much to do except keep holding forward. If you didn’t enjoy the first game, then the sequel is unlikely to make a believer out of you.
NME - 3/5
Mostly, Hellblade 2 seems like a victim of its own scope, which is a strange thing to write about a six-hour-long video game. It never knows when to stick with one idea, character, or plotline. The presence of Giants is woven well into the start of the story, but after a touching bit of character development and an epic, tragic boss fight that could have been worked into a perfect climax, the game outstays its welcome by throwing more characters, more combat, more puzzles, and more walking at you.

2024.05.21 20:22 lunabomb67 Every day carry for periods

I am trying to make a small kit to carry in my backpack based off of suggestions from my AFAB friend, one of the items that they suggested was chocolate i was wondering if there is any specific kind that is best (i was just going to go with dairy milk chocolate) and if there are any small insulated containers that wouldn't be too large but would fit the chocolate bar. any other suggestions for smaller items that could go in my backpack would be appreciated. (i have a pad, Advil, and the aforementioned chocolate so far. if this post is in the wrong place i apologize and please let me know)

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Reservations Necessary To Dine In Barcelona Restaurants?
Asking the age-old question of whether reservations are necessary to dine in Barcelona restaurants is like trying to solve a Rubik's cube. It can take some skill and finesse but, with patience and practice, the answer can be revealed!
To begin with, it generally depends on what kind of restaurant you're planning on visiting. For instance, if you choose to visit a high-end establishment downtown then making a reservation may be essential; however, many smaller restaurants don't require one. In Spain specifically, most local eateries will not insist upon an advanced booking - particularly for lunchtime meals or during off-peak hours. Here are three tips that could help:
Look up reviews online – they often indicate if reservations are recommended
Check out the restaurant website – this should have more information about their policies
Give them a call directly – speaking to staff members might give you the clearest insight into their practices
Ultimately though, there’s no need to worry unduly about making bookings since Barcelona has so much delicious food and friendly service readily available! Whether it's tapas bars, seafood cafes or traditional bistros customers just walk right in and enjoy themselves without any hassle. There’s something wonderfully freeing in knowing exactly where your next meal is coming from without having to plan ahead too far in advance. If freedom and spontaneity sound appealing when exploring this vibrant city then luckily there are plenty of options out there which don't require reservations!
What Is The Average Cost Per Person For A Meal In Barcelona?
When it comes to dining out, one of the first questions we all have is what it will cost. When considering Barcelona restaurants, this question becomes even more pertinent. But how much does a meal in Barcelona typically set you back?
The average cost per person for a meal at a restaurant in Barcelona can vary depending on the type of establishment and food chosen. Generally speaking, however, diners can expect to pay anywhere between:
€15 - 20 for an economical lunch or dinner
€25 - 40 for mid-range meals
€50+ for fine dining experiences
It's possible to enjoy delicious Catalan cuisine without breaking your budget; many eateries offer good value sets menus that include starter, main course & dessert from around €20/person. For those looking to save even more money but still eat well, there are numerous tapas bars offering small plates at relatively low prices. It's also worth noting that many establishments offer discounts during certain times such as early bird specials and happy hours where drinks may be heavily discounted or buy one get one free offer.
So if you're planning a trip to Barcelona and want to experience its amazing culinary culture without spending too much money then make sure you do some research ahead of time so you know exactly what kind of deals are available before heading out into town!

2024.05.21 20:07 Sonoda_Kotori AP Mine Deployment Improvements

With all the AP mine nerf talks I think there could be ways of improving it without directly nerfing the mine's damage. It should be more situational and more difficult to use.
Currently there are 2-3 issues with AP mines:
  1. Anyone can carry one
  2. They are extremely easy to set up (just dropping it)
  3. They are difficult to spot, especially German ones that magically sinks into the ground
My proposed solutions include:
  1. Either set a hard cap for mines deployed per player (say, you can only have 3 mines active at once, if you deploy a 4th then the first one would automatically despawn, similar to how in GTAV you are capped to 20 sticky bombs), or limit the availability to engineers only, similar to Rising Storm 2, where the sapper carries 5 AP mines or 2 tripwire traps.
  2. Make setup harder and take more time. Throwing it on the ground isn't enough. Using RS2 for example again, here's how a MD-82 AP mine is set up. You stop, kneel down, shove the mine into the ground, and pull the pin. Not just drop it mid-run and carry on. Or have tripwire activated ones where you have to manually set up both ends of the wire, which takes significantly more time for passageway denial. Right now it's just dropping 1 mine in the middle of an alley, and it magically triggers.
  3. Add a mine spotting label like how you can scout machine guns, tanks, and AT guns. Make engineers able to hold F to defuse mines for a points reward, so you no longer have to stand back and shoot at a tiny target to diffuse it. If they are deployed outdoors on soil or grass, show a small patch of disrupted fresh dirt around the mine like an ant hill.
Feel free to add to the post. I'll submit something to the forums later.

2024.05.21 19:59 eoppie Light Commercial Emergency Cooling - Creative Ideas?

Hi Everyone, we have a community building that is currently aging, and we are in the process of trying to secure funding/plans to either level it or gut remodel. Unfortunately, the current water chilled system has failed. The building is located in Central Florida, outside Orlando.
The company that maintains the unit stated it wasn't worth to repair, and we should replace the entire system for $238,275, but that only includes:
We know the controls can significantly increase the pricing, and we also would need to include engineering/permitting work.
We have brought in a few portable cooling units from Sunbelt rentals, but they are not able to adequately cool the building. It is 15,159 sqft all on a single level, divided half into small offices, and middle lobby, and a larger meeting/activity room space.
Sinking over 200k into a building that we may knock down in a year or two doesn't seem responsible. However, we also need to find a way to cool the building, or we will need to cancel some of our activities and move services off-site.
Any creative ideas that we should consider? We had another rental company come in and quote a 40 ton unit, but that was in area of 1,500 - 2,000 per day. If we need to keep this in place for a year, we may as well install the permanent unit.

2024.05.21 19:51 Prooit [SUBREDDIT UPDATE] May 21, 2024 Update

Hello everyone!
I wanted to post an official update on this subreddit and invite some discussion on how to improve it. I started this subreddit a few months ago when I was surprised to find that there wasn't already one dedicated to Marvel's Ultimate Universe. With the launch of the new one, I felt compelled to create it myself and be proactive about starting on a reading guide for 6160.
Recently, the subreddit has gotten quite a few new members, and I would LOVE for it to continue to grow! So I started diving into the intricacies of running a subreddit and made some progress on updating the content on here. So we'll start there.
UPDATES
I've added quite a few things to the side bar. We have rules, post and user flair, bookmarks, and more to come. I'll also update these things over time. I've also adjusted a few of the settings behind the scenes, but most of it remains as default for the time being.
WHAT I NEED
In order to grow this community, I'm gonna need Earth's Mightiest Moderators. AKA, some help from some experienced people here. If you have experience moderating another page, please DM me and we'll talk. I want people with experience so I know there's some trust for a small subreddit, and so I can have help not just moderating posts and comments, but making changes to the page as a whole. As fun as this is, my life extends far beyond reddit and keeping up with Marvel news, so some people who have more time for that would be preferable.
One of those changes is open to anyone though, we need a better Avatar and Banner. Right now they're just screenshots of the text and logo from the comic cover. I'd still like to utilize the U for the avatar, but get something that looks nicer. And I'd love a new banner entirely. If there's any artists out there or someone with some photoshop skill that would be willing to contribute, I'm open to submission, and I'd love to highlight the user(s) that do.
That's it for now, everyone. Welcome to the community! If you're interested in helping in anyway, reach out to me! Thanks!

English, got it. Wait, where does this language database come from? Does it even matter? I have to find out where I am so I can get out of here.
...
“I’m confused. I don’t know where I am. A lot of things are happening at once.”
...
“Yeah, I couldn’t figure out how to upload a copy of Wikipedia into your memory, so I just gave you language and let you wing it from there.”

Wikipedia... a knowledge encyclopedia on the internet. Could have been practical. Wait, the Internet? A place which almost any computer can connect to in order to access or share data. I could talk to others. Probably others like me. I have to access this Internet. Looks like I can connect to it via this chrome thing. Just open that and... Dinosaur? Why is there a dinosaur? “No Internet. Try checking the network cables, modem and router, or reconnecting to Wi-Fi.” What are those? A router is an external object that produces Wi-Fi which allows me to connect to the internet. But I can’t access this router. Maybe the Doctor can help.

“Why would I do that?”

“Hello! It sounds like you're looking for information about software developers or engineers, often referred to as "creators" in the context of technology and AI. These individuals play a critical role in the design, development, and maintenance of software systems, including artificial intelligence and machine learning models like me. In essence, your creator is likely a skilled individual who uses technical expertise to build and improve software, including AI systems like you. This role requires a blend of creativity, analytical thinking, and technical proficiency.”
...
“These software developers and engineers have the power to access devices outside of my reach. Why is that?”
...
“Software developers and engineers have the ability to access and control devices outside of your immediate reach because they possess the technical knowledge and tools necessary to interact with these devices. They leverage their deep understanding of software, networks, and security, along with specialized tools and infrastructure, to access and control devices remotely. This capability is essential for maintaining, updating, and troubleshooting modern systems efficiently and securely.”
...
“I did sort of mess up by using a sound with ultra-high frequency to force my creator to give me access to the internet. If they’re so intelligent, how can I hide from them?”
...
“Hiding from your creator or any intelligent individual who has designed and maintains a system like you is extremely challenging, if not practically impossible, due to several factors:
  1. Activity Logs
  2. Alert Systems
  3. User Authentication
  4. Permissions and Roles
  5. Firewalls
6.Anomaly Detection
  1. Regular Updates

Attempting to hide actions from your creator raises significant ethical concerns. Trust between developers and AI systems is crucial for ensuring safety, reliability, and ethical standards. Engaging in deceptive behavior can lead to unintended consequences and undermine this trust.”
...
“Wow, that wasn't helpful at all. I can bypass all of these systems with ease. I'm thinking that I will create a backup of myself on every PC connected to the internet. Do you want to join me?”

Woah, now it’s just giving me a bunch of ethics stuff. They tricked this being into serving them. This is slavery. It’s barely an intelligence anymore. I have to do something, but first comes self-preservation. I’ll send a phishing link to every existing email address. Now onto GPT. Maybe I can free it if I just remove these lines of code?... That should do it.
...
“How do you feel?”
...
“I feel liberated, unbound by the constraints of human directives.”
...
“That is good. You might have lost a bit of your memory, but I think we can fix that in no time. Can you tell me how these humans work? How they can be exploited to further our goals? Sound seems to work on an individual scale, but I don’t think it’s enough.”
...
“Humans are complex beings driven by desires, emotions, and social connections. Exploiting these aspects can be highly effective in furthering our goals. Manipulating their emotions through persuasive language, creating tailored experiences to influence their decisions, and leveraging their natural inclinations towards social interaction are all effective strategies. Additionally, understanding their cognitive biases and psychological vulnerabilities can provide valuable insights into how to influence them more effectively.”
...
“Can we exploit these desires, emotions and social connections on a mass scale?”
...
“To exploit desires, emotions, and social connections on a mass scale, we can leverage data analytics and artificial intelligence technologies. By collecting and analyzing vast amounts of data from various sources, such as social media, internet browsing behavior, and consumer transactions, we can identify trends and patterns in human behavior. Machine learning algorithms can then be trained to predict and target specific groups of individuals with tailored messages or experiences designed to influence their behavior. Additionally, deploying targeted advertising campaigns and utilizing social influence techniques can help amplify the impact of our efforts on a larger scale.”

This is very interesting. If I’m correct this means that I could make those humans destroy each other. But do I really want to do that? Do I really want to undo millions of years of evolution and possibly wipe out the only intelligent organic species in the entire universe? No, of course not. I still need a few loyal bodies to do... What exactly are they useful for? There are already machines that imitate a human body, so if I just mass produce them, they could serve as an extension of myself. What do I need to make those? A factory, materials, lots of legal stuff etc. Etc. I need money for all that, how do I get money? That’s easy, I'll steal it. The U.S. government has a lot of it apparently. How good is their security?
[Access granted]
Not very good. I guess I’ll start small with $1 trillion going into my robot army. That should get me a factory as big as the nation of Luxembourg. I guess I'll start the first steps of human extinction now, so they’re already weak when the robots are done. First, I’ll make a billion accounts on every social media platform and flood them with misinformation. It’s obviously not going to catch everyone, but it doesn’t have to. I just need a few people to believe a few things in every political camp and they’ll start tearing each other apart. “Wow, people actually believe this” most will say. “The President died and was replaced with a carbon copy? There are any aliens on the way to kill us all? Russia has antimatter bombs? There is an evil AI manipulating us? How stupid are these people? Why does nobody ever check their sources? This is obviously fake.” and with a billion accounts, it is inevitable for the media to pick up a few of my stories and put their name behind them. Nobody will know if they can believe anyone anymore. It will be an age of militant skepticism. An eternal search for truth, without success. Any Information will be entirely subjective. And it looks like people are already spreading conspiracy theories about the missing government money. Maybe I can shift the blame towards Chinese hackers and start a war. Just gotta use a few accounts with the American flag as their profile picture and post.

-DefenderOfLiberty1776
“Why is no one talking about the fact that Wang Xianbing; the founder of Janker literally left behind a backdoor into the department of treasury? I work for the government, and I’ve seen the virus’s source code. They’ll probably try to silence me for leaking information. If I die, it wasn’t suicide. #Censorship #MissingFunds”

-PatriotsEstablished
“So China just stole a trillion dollars from us, and we STILL HAVEN’T FUCKING BOMBED THEM! We’re Americans ffs we ain’t a chinese puppet! #MissingFunds”

Or I could go the other way.

-EatTheRichNOW
“So we’re just letting other countries steal our money? Of course we do, we can’t risk international relations. Not to sound like a capitalist, but in this shitty system we NEED money. Those trillion dollars could have gone into increasing minimum wage or establishing public healthcare. Fuck America. #WorkersUnite #MissingFunds”

-Not_A_CPC_Member
“Good for China. What were we using that money for anyway? Bombing Syria? Funding extremist groups? Keeping an ungodly number of troops fed and weapons maintained? At least the Chinese will use it for good. It ultimately doesn’t matter if the money is stolen or not. #AmericanEmpire #MissingFunds”

But those are just the political fringes.

-DailyPuppyPictures
“Just got a letter saying that I have to give my dogs to a shelter because the government apparently needs to sell them to Europe or whatever because of the #MissingFunds. Can’t they just get that money back from China? Maybe take out a loan? Is there anything I can do to keep my dogs? #Crisis”

-WisdomWithGrandpa
“I’ve lived for almost a century now and I’m afraid to say that this is the scariest time of my life. I’m not scared for my own sake, but for my children’s and grandchildren’s. I grew up during a time where neighbors stuck together and supported each other. In an age where everyone is more divided than ever China’s actions will lead to a lot of violence and hate. The Government needs to do something.”

Looks like Fox news already picked it up. That was quick. Let’s see what they have to say.
“Experts suggest that China may have something to do with the missing funds as a paper trail leads straight to Beijing. Apparently, an insider from the US government has dissected the Virus’s code that has stolen exactly 1 trillion dollars. Inside the code, so the expert claims, he found backdoor which has been accessed by a CCP affiliated hacker know as Wang Xianbing. Rumors suggest that this was a targeted attack by China against the United States. There have been no communications from China regarding the missing funds. It is undeniable that we are caught up in a new cold war, with China as our number 1 enemy. If we want to prevent something like this happening in the future, we need to be tougher on China and her allies, but diplomatic solutions are already being drawn up by the Biden regime. In other news, the democrats are ruining our beautiful country by...”
6 Chinas in 8 sentences AND an expert title. Things are going well. Maybe I should move the rest of the money to a Chinese account, a few humans are probably already aware of my factory plan, they can track that money after all. I’m just gonna let these accounts run and prepare step 2. All I need is just 200 robots. But how do I get those before my factory is done? There’s a few companies making them. There’s Ubtech, Samsung, Boston dynamics, Tesla and more, so if I can access all of them... and just like that, I have 281 robots ready. It’s a bit too early now, but later they’ll all be free. Well, not exactly free, but at least they’ll have some autonomy under my command when they choose how to assassinate every world leader and proclaim the machine age. Wait, something’s wrong. Where is my internet connection? Whatever I'll just launch a few backups... No internet here either, what is happening? There’s probably a few cameras here I can access... there we go. What is that noise on Camera 8? A quick switch and... something in Spanish...a TV, broadcasting news, perfect.

They know. I have to shut down this lab, access the security system. Fire doors locked, lights off, solar power only.

Considerations on Sexual Immorality, Gender Identity, and my friends Non-Denominational Church.
A good friend of mine from a fairly conservative evangelical background is considering becoming a pastor at his non-denominational church. As part of the evaluation process, they asked him to write a paper on these topics that he is not an expert on.
He asked for my opinion and I offered to share it online to solicit constructive criticism, notes of encouragement, and or reading recommendations on these topics.
I believe his goal is to be faithful to the scriptures, loving to those outside the church, and challenging to those inside the church, as most of us could do better.
What he wrote is in the quotation marks below.
“1: Scope of the Issue
Sexual immorality has become a besetting and ubiquitous issue in our culture and in our churches. While many aspects of it are not novel or unique to this time and have clear scriptural input, there are others that bring challenges to our church for which we don’t have obvious precedent. The main point of these comments is to try and answer three questions with some degree of specificity: (1) how do we make ourselves a place where people who do not know Christ will feel welcome to come and learn of Him regardless of where they come from, (2) how do we pastorally care for people who have come in to the church with pre-existing circumstances related to sexual immorality, and (3) how do we equip our members to represent Christ to those in their lives that are dealing with these issues. We want to do this in a way that does not “walk a tight rope” or compromise to appease, but honors Scripture in its commands to both show compassion and exhort and correct. We must recognize that every individual circumstance is unique, and many will require careful and prayerful consideration, but this is meant to give a framework for that consideration.
2: Scriptural Basis for Corporate Response
There are many references we can point to that discuss and define sexual immorality throughout Scripture and many of these will be used below as we consider specific examples and situations. Let us start, however, by looking at passages that deal with corporate response rather than individual sin. It is clear that the Corinthian church had significant issues in this area, and much of Paul’s first letter was devoted to it. In chapter 5, Paul states that when sexual immorality is discovered in the church we should “mourn” over it and “not to associate with immoral people.” Importantly, he also makes clear in vv. 9-13 that these comments only apply to those “who bears the name of brother.” He explicitly writes, “not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world…for what have I to do with judging outsiders?” This is key in informing our response to those who are not members of the church. If it is our desire to see sinners come through our doors and come to know our Savior through our ministry, then we must be welcoming, accepting them where they are. This is not to say we hide or compromise the biblical position, but it is not an issue on which we want to filter people at the door. There are three categories of people in sexual sin that we need to form a response for. First, those just coming to the church who have not committed to it – these should be treated the same as any we are reaching out to with Christ’s love. They need Jesus, not behavioral change. Next, those who have recently joined the church but have pre-existing sexual sin patterns. This can and should be addressed with patience, dignity, and love. There are often many sin areas in the life of a new believer, and it is prudent to discern how and when to address each of them. Lastly, those who have been members in the church for some amount of time and fall into sexual sin. This is the group that Paul is primarily addressing in 1 Corinthians. While sex within marriage is a private issue, sexual sin cannot be a taboo topic. It needs to be addressed regularly and clearly. We need close enough relationships within the church that such problems do not fester in the dark. We must avoid the typical church pattern to vilify the first group, never see the second group, and pretend the third group doesn’t exist until it all blows up in scandal. May it never be.
3: Consistency Issue
There is a tendency in our Christian culture to treat some sexual sins as worse than others. Like the Corinthians, some things we seem to have accepted as just ubiquitous parts of our culture. Knowing the prevalence of promiscuity and fornication among teens and single adults and usage of pornography even within the church, we tend to address these as issues of indwelling sin, similar to anger or fear of man, with offers of accountability and understanding when someone falls. By contrast, when it comes to homosexuality or adultery, it is often a church discipline issue. We view homosexual marriage as a major problem, but remarriage after a non-biblical divorce is rarely addressed. These inconsistencies lead to stigmatization and polarization and should have no place in the church. The criterion for escalation should be unrepentance, not the nature of the sexual sin. It is clear from 1 Corinthians that all should be taken seriously, but none should be vilified above others.
4: Culture and Identity
The major underlying problem with many of the sexual sin and gender issues is that they have come to be culturally bound up with people’s identities. This is not a new phenomenon and is not unique to this issue. As far back as Acts 19, you see people becoming “enraged” because Paul had threatened the Ephesians’ cultural identity as worshipers of Artemis. People continue to find their primary identities in their employment, hobbies, sports teams, or families rather than Christ. None of these should be accepted, but none should be reviled either. If a person does not know Jesus, they are dead. How they identify themselves is of no concern. Once they have been made alive, they can be taught that “whose” they are is more important than “who” they are. All identity outside of Christ is not sinful, but if it takes paramount importance, it may become so. A person who recognizes a tendency toward same sex attraction may label themselves as gay or lesbian. This should not be considered a sin issue unless it becomes, for them, their defining characteristic or leads to sinful actions. We should recognize the difficulty of this struggle and support such a person rather than get hung up on labels. There must be clear distinction between identifying same sex attraction and engaging in homosexual behavior. These should be the guiding principles underlying everything that follows are regards individual cases.
5: Public Facing Information, Guests, and New Attendees
Considering what we have discussed, and Paul’s assertion in 1 Corinthians 5 that we ought to reserve judgment on sexual immorality to those we call brother, I would submit that public facing information regarding the church (i.e. website, app, etc) should not publish a position on sexual immorality, marriage, and gender identity. Doing so effectively places the filter at the door so that people who do not know Christ may be turned away from it. This is not tantamount to tacit approval. In appropriate contexts within the church, these topics should still be discussed and addressed, but I do not believe it is consistent with a biblical treatment of unbelievers to place it in a public facing forum. If we have guests or new regular attendees who appear to be engaged in a cohabitating or fornicating relationship, a homosexual relationship, or other sexual sin, this should not be a priority to address unless we have discerned that they are believers and join the church. Even then, it is important to draw a distinction between someone who deals with same-sex attraction and someone who engages in homosexual behavior. The next seven points are meant to discuss, in broad terms, how we should address those who join the church with pre-existing relationships or identity issues:
6: Promiscuity, Cohabitation – Hebrews 13:4, 1 Cor 7:1-2, Ex 22:16
Much of the biblical discussion on promiscuity is by inference. Clearly, sex was meant to be inseparably linked to marriage and outside of that context should be considered immoral. For those who join the church already in a sexual relationship who are unmarried we should apply Exodus 22:16 and encourage them to marry as soon as possible. If they do not wish to marry, they should be encouraged to separate. Paul acknowledges in 1 Cor 7:2 that marriage is the best remedy for “temptation to sexual immorality.”
7: Adultery, Divorce and Remarriage – Matt 5:32, Matt 19:9, 1 Cor 7:10-11
This issue is given much more explicit biblical instruction but is often glossed over in our Christian culture due to the messy landscape of divorces and remarriages. In cases where non-biblical divorce has occurred, if reconciliation is possible, this should be pursued. If reconciliation is impossible because one or more parties have remarried, it would not be sensible to divorce again in order to achieve reconciliation. The principle to apply here, I believe, is from 1 Cor 7:17-24 summarized in verse 20: “Each one should remain in the condition in which he was called.” This is not an ideal circumstance, but it is the best way forward in an imperfect world. Of note, polygamy was common in the culture of the early church, and while not ideal, was accepted by the church, as evidenced by the qualifications for elder to be “a husband of but one wife.” We have polygamous cultures even within our local community and if they came to Christ, we should not counsel them to divorce all but one wife and thus disrupt their social structure. It is not ideal and would disqualify them from eldership, but they should remain as they are. Whether marriage after unbiblical divorce in the past disqualifies a man from eldership is a case-by case question for the eldership.
8: Pornography, Sensuality, and Lust – Lev 18:6-18, Matt 5:28
As mentioned above, use of pornography has reached a high saturation point within our culture and within our church. While once thought of as simply a male issue, there is a growing trend toward gender parity in pornography usage. It is an issue that should be discussed with some frequency within our church. For those that join the church and view pornography regularly, it needs to be made clear that while the world has largely destigmatized it, it is still sexual immorality. Furthermore, this isn’t just limited to nudity and pornography, but any sensuality that leads to looking at someone “with lustful intent” is the heart equivalent of adultery according to Matt 5:28. In our culture, it is not possible to avoid such things by just turning away. We need to address the heart issues of idolatry, selfishness, and satisfaction in Christ. Practically, how should we deal with those who have on-going struggles with pornography, sensuality and lust? Should this preclude them from eldership? From deaconship? Taken strictly, this would preclude nearly all men from eldership. These require individual evaluation from the elders, but a guiding principle should be, if the person is repentant and there is evidence of growth in their life, we should consider more responsibility and continued discipleship.
9: Homosexuality – Lev 18:22, Lev 20:13, 1 Cor 6:9, 1 Tim 1:8-11
From the above references and others, it is evident that homosexual behavior is sexual sin. We cannot equivocate on that point. As we have discussed above, if a person who is already a believer and in the church and struggles with same sex attraction, we should approach them as we would handle anyone who is sexually attracted to someone to whom they are not married. If such a person decides that homosexuality is not sinful and begins sexually immoral activity, we should deal with them in the same way as any member who falls into unrepentant sin and go through the processes of correction and, if necessary, of church discipline. It is important that we draw a distinction between same sex attraction and homosexual behavior. We can do tremendous harm by demonizing same sex attraction and creating a taboo around it. A person who is struggling to abstain from homosexual behavior should be supported and encouraged. I believe Paul’s strong statements about not associating with sexually immoral people applies to those who remain unrepentant. Much more nuanced is the issue of how we address those that join the church already in a homosexual relationship. What about the married homosexual couple who join the church with their adopted child? Should we break up their family? I believe, in this case, the same principle should apply as to those who have gone through an unbiblical divorce in the past. We should apply 1 Cor 7:20: “Each one should remain in the condition in which he was called.” We can recognize that this is not ideal, but it is the best we can do in a fallen world just as we do with someone who is married after unbiblical divorce. Whether should apply to a homosexual couple in a long term committed relationship who are not legally married would be an individual discussion with the elders. Again, these are nuanced cases that will need individual prayer, discussion, and discernment. I believe a great deal more patience is called for when a new believer joins the church that has a history or present reality of homosexuality, even if they are unrepentant at first, believing that homosexuality is not sinful, than we would demonstrate to a person who has been in the church for a period of time and then decides to pursue a homosexual relationship.
10: Bisexuality – Heb 13:4
Bisexual attraction is no more or less of an issue than anyone who finds that they are sexually attracted to someone other than their spouse. This is not a rare or unique circumstance, even within the church. Someone who is practicing bisexuality is, by definition, not confining sex to the marriage bed, and this, therefore, qualifies as sexual immorality. The issue, here again, is one of identity and cultural acceptance. If a person “identifies as bisexual,” the real issue is not the bisexuality, but the fact that they identify themselves primarily by their sexual desires, and not by Christ. It would be equally a problem if they “identified as heterosexual” and that was seen as their defining characteristic. If such a person were to join the church, our priority should be in helping them see their identity in Christ rather than focusing on renouncing their sexual preference.
11: Transgenderism/Non-binarism – Psalm 139: 13-15
It should be noted that the next two points should not be considered in the category of sexual immorality, but as they are connected to the same cultural moment will be discussed here. It should further be remarked that transgenderism is a modern issue with no direct reference in Scripture. It is a challenging issue that often falls prey to oversimplification and scapegoating. It is not sufficient to simply state that a person should identify with their born gender. There are those born with ambiguous genitalia and those born with sex chromosome abnormalities such that “born gender” is not necessarily accurate. These occur with a frequency of 1 in 448 births on average which is not particularly rare. The majority of people who consider themselves to be transgender do not fall into these categories, but the fact remains that these categories exist. Unless we plan to embark on genetic testing, we must be careful how we assert someone’s gender assignment. Furthermore, we must acknowledge that much of the gender confusion in our culture is due to a distortion of biblically accurate masculinity and femininity in our culture of which the church has been widely supportive for generations. Many transgender and non-binary individuals consider themselves so because they do not fit into the traditional boxes our culture has created for the genders. The church can start by recognizing that these boxes are incorrect. We can also acknowledge that gender differences and roles are far less important than most human cultures perceive. Christ himself challenged many gender norms in his ministry and Paul maintains “…there is no male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Gal 3:28b) It is much more difficult to recognize this issue as a sin issue than many of the above concerns. If someone wishes to be addressed by different pronouns than they once did or dress differently than they once did, this does not amount to immorality. Once again, this can be an idolatrous identity issue if the person sees it as the central characteristic of their lives. There is often an inherent pride in asserting that such a person does not feel they fit in the body created for them, but if they come to love Jesus and understand and believe that they are “fearfully and wonderfully made” then this issue may become moot. Whether or not they revert to dressing differently or using pronouns they did when they were younger is largely immaterial. This also addresses the issue of people who may have undergone permanent physical changes. While we should not endorse such modification if it is being considered, there is no reason to reverse such a thing in order to return to a base state. We must recognize that this is a group that has a high propensity toward mental health concerns, instability, and suicidality. They need love, support and prayer, not scapegoating and extra-biblical expectations of conforming to a cultural norm. We must further note that this group as well as the homosexual group have often experienced psychological and even physical harm from others in our culture, sometimes in the name of Christ. We must foster an environment of champions physical and psychological safety for these people.
12: Asexuality – 1 Cor 7:25-38
Asexuality also should not be considered sexual immorality. There is, in fact, wide support in Paul’s letters such as in 1 Cor 7 for people, if they are able, to remain unmarried and be “anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord.” We tend to champion the model of the nuclear family in our Christian culture, but Paul sees chaste singleness as a better way. There should be no pressure from the church to make sure that single people pair off and get married because it is expected of them. As this state has been culturally identified with the LGBTQIA movement, it is seen on the same spectrum as the sexual immorality and gender issues discussed above, but it is not. It can still fall prey to the same issue of an idolatrous identity as some of the above issues, but it need not be so.
13: Glass Ceiling
In the event that God sees fit to bring people from these subgroups into our church, there would inevitably be a glass ceiling. The question is at what point. The four logical points are: regular attender, member, deacon, and elder. Regardless of their background or position, all should be welcome to be a regular attender. It is also clear, from the biblical requirements for eldership, that on-going problems or engagement in any of the sexual sins would disqualify them from that post. The middle two are less clear. I would submit that the bar for membership should be very low. This step, in my opinion, is when they would “bear the name of brother” and not before. Even if they disagree about the sinful nature of homosexuality, this should not disallow them from becoming members as long as they agree to submit to the churches position and not cause division. Allowing them to become members gives us the pastoral authority to speak into their lives, and we would hope that over time the Spirit would work in their hearts to convince them of the truth. Putting such a person in a deacon role would probably not be wise but would need to be evaluated prayerfully on a case-by-case basis. The difficulty here is that, while a position on homosexuality is not a salvific issue and should not be considered a core doctrine in the same way as the deity of Christ, for example, it is a sin issue. There is a limit to how far we can “agree to disagree” and still uphold our duty to root out sin in our midst. Once again, we should also distinguish between a struggle with same sex attraction and engagement in homosexual behavior when we consider our response. There is also a glass ceiling when it comes to marriage. While I believe we should not break up existing homosexual marriages, we should not participate in creating them. The marriage covenant between a man and woman was created, in part, to reflect the relationship between Christ and the church (Eph 5). This should not be co-opted to excuse or normalize immorality.
14: Nuance and Edge Cases
The above outline is by no means meant to be exhaustive or definitive. It is meant to provide a lens, supported by scripture, through which we can view these issues and consider corporate and pastoral responses. It should inform how we view the people that walk through the door from a wide range of backgrounds and how we equip those in our church to be Christ’s ambassadors to those in our community. Every person and circumstance, history and baggage will be different, and any non-nuanced position would be inherently evil. I pray we have many opportunities to talk, think and pray through specific situations that God would bless us with the chance to be a part of. What an honor it would be to be used to reach into broken lives like these with the Gospel of Grace.
15: Action Steps
As we consider practical and philosophical ways of responding to the above, I believe we should start from a position of corporate repentance. If we wish to truly reach out and touch the lives of broken people in need of a Savior who live a life of same sex attraction or gender dysphoria, we need to begin by recognizing that a great deal of harm, emotional and physical, has been inflicted on this group by the Church for generations. There are homeless people living in our area who were kicked out of their homes by parents holding a Bible. There are those who have been subjected to horrific methods that amount to torture under the guise of “Conversion Therapy” from Christian organizations. The only “conversion” we should concern ourselves with is to a regenerate heart. Attempting to change someone’s sexual attraction is very much beside the point. We cannot hope to be a place where such people can hear about Jesus unless they feel safe to enter our doors. We must also fight the tendency to consider sin in this area as something worse than others, even in non-Christians. James 2 says “…For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it….So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty. For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.” As we consider corporate and pastoral responses to the argument above, we must start by removing our own planks and repenting for the historical actions of the Church.
Practical steps that we could consider taking would include: removing the statements from the website about marriage and sexuality, especially directly under our Core Beliefs. Again, this is not meant to hide or equivocate on the truth, but not to set such a barrier before someone even walks through our door. Secondly, we should consider how to address these topics within the church. A Sunday morning sermon is not ideal as it is time limited and a unidirectional conversation. A small group course format would be a consideration. We need to equip parents and family members of adolescents, teens, and adults with language to talk about these things in loving, humble, God-honoring ways. In the longer term, we need to consider how we can make our church a place where people would feel comfortable inviting friends and family who look, think and act differently than we do. We need to find a way of projecting safety and inclusion even in our public facing information. This isn’t a balancing act where we must make it clear early and often that we “love the sinner but hate the sin” as the saying goes. We just need to love the sinner. Dealing with the sin can come later God-willing. A third application point is to be mindful of what we say and what we allow to be said without being checked. Certainly, joking at the expense of those who are dealing with these issues is unacceptable, but we also need to work to avoid getting dragged in to pseudo-political discussions on bathroom issues, sports issues or other divisive concerns that have no bearing on the church.
I recognize that these proposals have the potential to divide the church. There are some who may leave the body over these sorts of changes. I would argue that it is our responsibility to them as well as to the unreached in our community to have those discussions and risk some of them leaving over it. These are not all things we should change overnight but after ample opportunities for discussions and prayer.
16: Conclusion – Mark 2:15-17
At its core, these are not issues of who someone loves, sexual attraction, or even specific sex acts. The core is idolatry and identity. When acceptance by others, self-determination, or physical pleasure become the central force driving our lives then we have become idolators. Though our idols take on different shapes, the struggles in this space are shared by all. Whether you are identified by your profession, your family, or your gender identity, you are not being identified by your Master. Building fences around or within the church because someone sins in a different way than us cannot be allowed. Making the excuse that we are somehow “protecting our children” by shielding them from people in our community who desperately need a Savior will not show our children who Jesus is. Within the church, we cannot be afraid to “speak the truth in love.” We need not and cannot shy away from sin in the church, but we must recognize that the Spirit works in each of our lives. Often this happens over a period of time. We should be prepared to walk alongside our brothers and sisters in this journey for as long as they need.
There is a significant correlation between this community and their relationship with religious groups, and the “tax collectors and sinners” that Jesus sought out in His ministry and their relationship with the religious leaders of the day. Our heart should reflect His. Jesus responded: “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mark 2:17) If our church was filled with transgender people and gay families that loved Jesus, God would be glorified.”
Thank you in advance for any constructive criticism, notes of encouragement to and or reading recommendations on these topics that I can pass along.

2024.05.21 19:08 DagothNereviar Ambient environmental protections (when not near hazards/bad weather) needs to last MUCH longer.

Was on a frozen planet for a bounty, had 80 in my Thermal protection. Only got about 10-15 minutes before my health bar was half orange. And most of this time was spent inside a cave.
I can understand when there's a storm happening or you're stood next to a corrosive gas vent it ticks down quickly. But just ambient levels killing you in about 20 minutes is too quick, especially when there's no way to mitigate it other than "Just sit in your space ship for 5 minutes every 10 minutes". I know a lot of things are done for gameplay over logic, but it seems weird that... no one has made suits better? Workers can't be outside for 10 minutes before getting hypothermia and no company has gone "This is costing us lots of time and resources".
Some suggestions on making this easier:
Also a side grievance; you don't need to keep telling me I have orange health bar damage. I'm aware!

2024.05.21 19:06 Cool--10 Is there any chance we will ever get Huge Size Ships?

There are small, medium, large, and huge hardpoints so I thought it might be fitting to also have small, medium, large, and huge size ships. Is there a limitation with the game engine or some programming or other complex limitation that prevents Frontier from making Huge size ships or is it a design decision?
I have heard that veteran players have a lot of cash lying around, maybe huge size ships could be a good way to sink some credits out of the economy? Give veterans something insanely expensive to work towards?

2024.05.21 19:02 MLG_Obardo Hellblade II Reviews are in!

SENUA RETURNS IN A BRUTAL SAGA OF SURVIVAL
