2024.03.12 12:02 Gexgekko [Request][PC Non-Steam] Wings Over Flanders Fields

Hi!
I've been requesting Wings Over Flanders Fields for a while now, and I will try one last time, as I don't want to be a pain in the ass.
I tried explaining why I can't get it for myself on this post and I tried explaining what other games I've played in the same style and why I want this one on this other post, and now I'm going to try to explain my experience in one of these games, as it's the one I'm playing lately and I have fresh memories from it. I could explain something about the game I'm requesting, but I already did and I don't know what more could I add, so here I go with my experience.

The game I'm choosing to talk about is IL-2 Sturmovik: Flying Circus Vol 1, a WWI flight simulator.
I have played a fair bit of other sims like the IL-2 1946 modded and I loved it, but I am pretty bad at the games. Like, crash against other plane in the air going 60km/h bad (that's 656.167979 american football fields per hour, not much).
On the newer one I have already played to, both the Steam and the non-steam version, and I still crashed everytime and still failed all missions. Now I saw a "campaign mod" that added new missions for training, and decided to do them to learn a bit. I learnt to take off and land (aclaration: landing without crashing).
It took a bit for the second part, as everytime I landed I tipped the plane over to its nose and broke it. One time I managed to land safely and while taxiing I turned way to sharp to the left and the plane tipped to its right side, breaking the wings and not completing the mission. Other time I landed too hard and the wheels just went on an adventure. My friend that was on discord call with me hearing me complain just said I was going to use all war budget in broken planes from that tutorial only. He wasn't far from the truth. But I kept trying until I can do it almost fluidly. Ok, more than 30 hours on sims combined and I can land YAY perseverance!
Later I destroyed my first bomber plane with a WWI Central Powers Plane (Albatross D.VII I think it was, I get a bit lost on nomenclature). I kept having to restart the mission because 1000 bullets are statistically not enough to kill a bomber with my accuracy rate and I run out of them (maybe 10-20 bullets landed the bomber at best). Bomber was moving on a straight line at constant speed, I'm just really bad at this. But with perseverance I made it, and repeated the mission later to get more practice and I could do it fluidly now.
Now I could finish the tutorial but I wanted to play career mode for a while to see if I could finally finish a normal mission and not only tutorials (I had played missions before, but never managed to land the plane at the end). I created my first british pilot called Matthew Damon. I wanted to call it Matthew McConaughey but I didn't know how to write it. First mission went OK, he escorted some bombers and everything went nice, no action, just flying and landing almost safely (I tipped the plane again and he was wounded, but nothing serious). Second mission was just blowing up a survey balloon (zepeling) of the enemy. After I reached the combat area, I aimed perfectly at the balloon and started shooting at it. It was going well until I realized I had dived too much against it and I couldn't recover. I crashed against the balloon. "Mission Complete, get back to base" message appeared while I watched my plane in third person fall down to the ground, killing Matthew instantly. Only award he managed to get on his life was "Wounded" award, for being wounded (they give you a medal for failing!). RIP S.E.5a pilot, you will be missed.
Next pilot I created was also a british pilot called Canfly Allplanes but this time instead of an S.E.5a he piloted a Sopwith Camel. WORST choice ever. First mission: Escort some bombers. Comments: The Sopwith Camel is SLOW. VERY SLOW. It took me 20 minutes to reach half way to the bomb place. I ragequitted because it was too much to bear. I am planning on starting another career with a S.E.5a pilot again, as it's not that frustrating.
Now, I want to experience similar things with a more advanced dynamic campaign on a "bigger" simulator, that is Wing Over Flanders Fields, and that's why I'm making this post. I hope you can help me, and THANKS!

2024.02.29 07:26 RedRapture781 Learning how to play the game of Crusader Kings 3 is a joy to behold

I’m deep into the tutorial after having played when the game first dropped awhile back. The games mechanics are seemingly deep, fleshy and charmingly subtle. At first glance it’s tough to wrap the head around what a good move, smart move, or wise move is in whatever context. But the magic is revealed once you pay attention to the context clues. I think the ideal game would give us the ability to play as an unlanded Lord and a landed lord in the same court under the same liege.
One of my questions: courtiers are described as unlanded nobles and common folk. Nobles, however are described as being part of a dynasty. This confused me even tho I think I get the picture. It’s just an elusive one and I like it. Titles are connected to titles and are the best ways legally qualify and quantify power outside of one’s capacity for supreme authority (violence).
I like how the game tutorial educates you as if you are a first born being prepared or groomed for succession. it gives you the law and the nomenclature and the actions Available in a given context but you really have to search the pop ups and information within game menus to see true. but sometimes I couldn’t make sense of the structure the way they described The Count of Dunbar and Norfolks tax obligations in tutorial. I eventually made sense of it but the description was puzzling. I wasn’t sure why one would have to consider such details and if they did wouldn’t they see the inherent flaws of this structure of rule. Those flaws are what makes medieval worlds so interesting though.
modern thinking favors the meek blood who had never known the fire of glory. Blame lords like vlad the impaler or the monhoms or ottomans for giving humanity a reason to doubt our own decency. The rest is just a lungs breaths exhaling into the abyss. I’m not sure anyone has power anymore. Now Power is just a virus you catch and the church worships greed or charity. Whichever works to spread the virus. It’s new shape shifting and ethereal nature can reveal itself to anyone tho few have found the power within…

2024.02.14 09:59 Godilovepancakes Material for learning C further

Hi! Apologies if this is a long question. TL;DR - I wanna learn advanced C. Every course/tutorial/YouTube video I look at starts with "What is an integer". I want to learn advanced concepts like data structures, algorithms, file handling (I'm talking about project files, i.e header files, multiple .c files and linking them together, etc. Not to be confused with reading and writing files), software development practices/flows/models/strategies, etc. And further learn strategies for testing and verifying the reliability of my code. I want books, courses, tutorials, or any other material. I don't expect you to teach me, I just want to be pointed in the right direction.
The long question with all the context you need to answer: My current knowledge in C:
What I want to learn:
Thanks!

2024.01.26 17:07 PsionicBurst Does This Clusterf**k of a Game Have a "Tutorial"...?

Does this clusterfuck of a game have a "tutorial", or is it just misattributed nomenclature for the industrialized regions of the map where younger players are stuck in to get more LEXP (Life Experience Points)? I hesitate to say "levels", or put anything in [square brackets] due to variances that make it too unquantifiable for me to measure.

Info Gathered From Comments So Far:

8 Hour Edit/Statement

The general consensus that everyone's seemingly leaning towards is no - Outside v20.24 does not have any type of "tutorial", instead opting for a really ballsy non-conventional approach by having all players complete an optional starter quest that, depending on their location on the map, is (1) run by players of high status that may/may not have an agenda, and (2) is buggy as hell, meaning that should you opt-out of doing the related quest, you break your early game and have to manually fix it later, I'm assuming. Pretty weird for a game that's on its 20th version, after who knows how long this clusterfuck's been in beta/alpha/dev-build...

UDIM workflow problem - Only loading first UDIM texture
I´ve been trying to load different Udims to an object, but once I load the image sequenece it only loads the first Udim.
I´ve been trying to make it work several times, but I am unable of making it work. I saw several tutorials, check forums and discussions and it still not working, it also reverse the Y axis on the normal map once imported.
Nomenclature is correct, I set up Painter project to UDIM workflow, model has only one material.
I bake all the maps inside Marmoset. Stacked all the UDIMs inside the first region with different materials per Udim and bakes, and then imported the model to substance with the model with each Udim in the correct region with only one material for all the object.

Texture showing all the UDIMs numbers

Textures only loading the first UDIM and leaving empty all the other ones

FIXED: All it took was cleaning the PC, especially the tines on the RAM. Works as normal na.
TLDR; The problem is with the POST.
Last night, my PC didn't turn on. I chalked it up to the monitor and mouse not working kasi di sila umiilaw. Decided to try turning it on right now, wala pa rin.
Here's what I did;
Eto mga onservations ko;
What I'm gonna do;
EDIT: Additional details;
EDIT 2: Looked up at a tutorial, I guess my problem is with the thing not going into POST.
EDIT 3: So I followed a tutorial about fixing a PC not POSTING. Removed and put back the RAM. Did the same thing with this battery sa CPU. Just unplugged the GPU's power cable, medyo nahirapan ako tanggalin. The mouse lights up now, pero "No Signal" daw. I tried both HDMI ports sa motherboard and the GPU.

Best YouTube Channel for Chemistry
I have been out of school for long time, and I was frustrated with Organic Chem until I discovered this channel.
https://www.youtube.com/@mevansthechemist
He is a Senior Academic Professional at Georgia Tech University, and uploads everything about Chemistry, Organic Chem, and some Biochem.

His videos are usually less than 10 minutes and in chronological order to study.

Also, he is very concise and eloquent in teaching. Makes drawings in different colors, and go over some practices.
I cannot believe I wasted so much time watching 3rd Part MCAT lectures for Chem.

2023.12.15 07:21 jakegdudley Nintendo Switch Lite repair

Nintendo Switch Lite repair
Hey y’all - first and foremost I appreciate you. Long story as short as possible, I was tearing down my girlfriend’s switch (lite) to replace a joystick and was on one of the last steps watching a YouTube tutorial when I made a mistake. I got the battery plugged back in and as I was reconnecting the “bridging ribbon” (the ribbon connecting the two boards, pointed out in the picture I added), it didn’t go in straight and produced a bit of smoke and smell. Big surprise, the switch failed to turn back on after that. I definitely could have messed something else up along the way…but that was the only component that was obviously messed up. I guess I shorted it? Apologies if I am wildly ignorant on the nomenclatures. Anyways, looks like I will be heading out to buy a new switch tomorrow, but before I do I was just wondering if this component is easily replaced? My girlfriend has a few games she loves and obviously doesn’t want to lose all the memory stored. Any information is much appreciated. 🙏🏻

2023.10.27 14:39 maju----- Tutorial on generating 2D map from aerial images

Hi everyone!
I am completely new to the topic and I am interested in creating both 2D and 3D models of terrain, using my DJI drone. I have found some tutorials on generating 3D models from aerial images using Meshroom, however I have not found any up to date information on how to add GPS data to make it correct scale. If I understand correctly, Meshroom is also technically capable of transforming such model into 2D map (like Google Maps satellite view), however I have not found any meaningful resources on how to create such flow.
Since I don't know nomenclature used in this area (I barely realised it's called photogrammetry) I am asking for any tutorials on the subject, and also software recommendations. Any tips and tricks are also welcome.

2023.10.22 11:03 averyconfusedboii Once a foo with no goals in the Barrio to a foo now living a fabulous life! My college results and the importance of being open-minded to opportunity and transformation, even as life appears obscure and distrustful.

Gender: Male
Race/Ethnicity: Hispanic/Mexican
Residence: Low-income community right outside Los Angeles
Income bracket: Below the poverty line
School: Underfunded public school (to give an idea of the setting, at least one student in each class wore ankle monitors, median GPA was definitely below 2.5, I remember hearing our median sat score was 860 or smth like that, and constant shooting threats, you get the idea)
9th-12th grade GPA: Weighted 3.32, Unweighted 3.2, UC/CSU 3.08 (only one that mattered since I only applied to CSUs and UCs)
Class rank: 66 out of 835
SAT/ACT: Didn’t take
AP’s: AP World History (10th grade), AP English Lang (11th grade), AP Environmental Sci (12th grade), AP English Lit (12th grade). Some background, I failed 1st semester of AP World and narrowly salvaged 2nd semester with a C. I had to retake both semesters of regular World History the Summer following Sophomore year to meet the World History requirements. I didn’t take any of the AP exams because I was broke.
Extracurriculars: The California Academic Decathlon was the direct extracurricular that transformed my life. I got registered in it my Junior year as it was the only class that fit my schedule, but I promptly found the mastership and fondness of communicating and discovered I adored talking and conveying ideas with others. I’ll admit: my team did carry me. My peers were cracked in the top 10 of my class, but we made it through regional levels.
Cross Country, Track and Field. Varsity in both sports my Junior and Senior years, and qualified for CIF internationals.
Volunteering. Hospital volunteering for in-stay patients to assist them in attending mass services on Sundays, and more church volunteering for a Catholic program my parents made me do. I became increasingly engaged at school around my Junior year with lots of after-school activities, food bank volunteering, community planning, and recreational activities, mainly activities where I helped better the city of Los Angeles. I completed around 1500+ hours of community service.
California Scholarship Federation. I got accepted in my Junior year; this helped me get familiarized with community service opportunities and build more friendships.
(Sort of) a business I ran at school. I’m a foodie and love cooking. I make treats like dipped Strawberries, Apples, and Mexican treats and sold them around the school. I’ve always held a skill for making and selling products and making quick cash, although it didn’t make it an awful lot.
Part-time work at a Downtown LA hotel. This is where I worked part-time during my Junior year and beyond to sustain my family with rent and utilities. I cooked meals for the buffet the hotel ran. It wasn't anything remarkable but I appreciated the work.
Schools I applied to:
Cal State LA – Primary major: Communication. Alternate major: English
Cal State Dominguez Hills – Primary major: Organizational Leadership. Alternate major: English (Literature)
Cal State Fullerton – Primary major: Communication. Alternate major: English
Cal State Long Beach – Primary major: Communication (Organizational Comm). Alternate major: English (Rhetoric)
San Diego State University – Primary major: Communication. Alternate major: Health Communication.
Cal Poly Pomona – Primary major: Communication (Organizational Comm). Alternate major: English (Literary Studies)
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo – Primary major: Communication. Alternate major: Agricultural Communication.
UC Davis – Primary major: Communication. Alternate major: Sociology (Organizational Studies)
UC Santa Barbara – Primary major: Communication. Alternate major: Language, Culture and Society
UC San Diego – Primary major: Communication. Alternate major: Literature/Writing

Before I share my college results, I want to share a f̶l̶e̶e̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ synopsis of my life and the lengths I endured to get here. (I accidentally dragged this far too long. I guess I had a ton I wanted to speak. Feel free to skip the wall of text to my college results at the bottom if you'd prefer)
I was a typical foo in the barrio with no goals in life. My older brother attended Cal State LA for Sociology and did Cross Country, Track, AVID, and Community Service during high school. I only began the same activities -- Cross Country, Track, and AVID -- as I held no goals. I loved playing violent video games. Smoking pot and cigars was a guilty pleasure and an escapade. I was arrested and booked as a juvenile a couple of times. All charges were dropped, yet I found myself spiraling into correctional facilities too often.
COVID wasn't any better. I was too lazy to complete homework. In my freshman year, I earned GPAs below 3.0 in both semesters, and I couldn’t care less. I got B’s in Cross and Track merely for skipping numerous practices. In my sophomore year, I earned a 2.17 GPA in my 1st semester, failed AP World with an F and Chemistry with a D. I was on probation for AVID and eligibility to continue in any sports. A significant incident transpired and I landed in a correctional facility for an entire week. My mom and dad were very concerned but I didn’t care.
When you’re discursively described by politicians, public figures, and authorities as a purposeless soul and your life counts less than the richer residents just a few miles away and are directly personified as an inhumane gang member by just about everyone outside the barrio for your skin complexity, you're discouraged from believing you'd live past 16 years. This is why I had no goals at all. I had no connection with my older brother due to him attending college, deducing I would never reach his caliber. I evaded my parents chronically, exhausted from being compared to my brother. I was reticent, a socially inept foo who talked very little and had no friends.
The turning point I didn’t recognize would’ve completely transformed the watchtower of my future at that instant was my 2nd semester sophomore year. For AVID, we’ve been accomplishing online tutorials (COVID lockdown) and I was always paired with this one dude to solve our Chemistry problems. He would bring up during the Zoom meetings how he noticed me during Track practice back in-person freshman year (I never noticed him, I tried my best to avoid people).
One day, he eagerly informed me he arranged in-person after-school running sessions with other Track members; socially distanced and wearing masks for accountability and reinforcement amongst the team. He asked me to join sometime. I was hesitant to join for weeks. Yet, I felt bored out of my mind playing video games all day, so I grabbed my running shoes and figured it wouldn't hurt running. I ran 5 miles that day with the group and slowly recognized running helped my psychological slate through a very doubtful period.
He invited me alongside other Track and Field friends to his home for lunch. In his room were dozens of sketches of math equations and physics posters. That’s when I found out my now great friend was Valedictorian at the time and dreamed large as he sought to materialize monumental ideals. He humbly expressed his devotion to Engineering, taking high-level Physics courses at the Community College and competing in Physics invitations. This was a nuanced turning point: someone in the barrio like me taking command of his life and flourishing. To give you an idea of my great friend, I wouldn’t see him often at school as he frequently traveled nationally and even outside the U.S. to compete in multiple Physics competitions, winning many awards. He made headlines for being the 1st person at our school to get into Princeton this March and just started there. My friend assisted in opening my eyes and admitting I'd been living very wrong.
He and my other friends from Track conveyed their anxieties about me smoking cigars and stealing. I was simply...existing...for no adequate reason. I didn't fit the narrative of my community anywhere and knew my life served no meaning for the longest time. For the 1st time, I felt like my life counted.
When I had a question about my Geometry, Chemistry, or AP World homework, my friends wouldn’t even think twice. They were quite patient with my slow intellect which I later uncovered as a blessing. It turns out AVID helped tremendously in familiarizing practical college preparation skills; I just never paid attention and took shortcuts. Same with Cross Country and Track. I would trim our daily runs or skip them altogether. It turns out I had a deficient running posture and throughout my sophomore year, my friends illustrated how to run appropriately and new breathing techniques. It was all uncomplicated, yet compulsory. I was on numerous probations and on the verge of flunking an entire semester. I came out the bottom with a 3.0 GPA 2nd semester, but it was sufficient to remain in AVID, any sports, and rescue myself before plunging too deep into the rabbit hole and repeating a semester.
That Summer, I asked all these questions discussing what electives to choose, how to study efficiently, and how to earn more money. My friends asked what my short and long-term goals were, my wildest dreams; all those good ice-breakers. I was mortified to acknowledge I didn’t have any goals. They were part of numerous community service clubs: CSF, NHS, AVID Club, and Church. They said supporting the community supports your soul and I should tag along even if I'm not admitted as a member to these clubs for Junior year simply to volunteer.
I wasn't allowed in AP US History after my AP World trauma. My great friend suggested to me AP Lang has been historically manageable at our school and I should enroll to develop my nomenclature and learning. That, coupled with the Academic Decathlon I was accidentally scheduled into was the largest coincidence to mankind ever. I quickly boasted my proficiency in the English language and widened myself to just how encouraged, goal-focused individuals live life. A Sacramento trip organized by the Decathlon where I competed was the 1st time I ever departed my bubble of Los Angeles. I was introduced to students from all over California and was humbled by all their dreams.
I learned long-distance running was my specialty and ran Varsity for Cross and Track and Field. More importantly, I began getting closer to my brother and parents. My brother found victory working in Human Resources. He allowed me to open up regarding my enthusiasm to get into college and his profession. He earned enough money to invite me to nice dinners. He helped my parents with rent money (and still does). He introduced me to his friends and would all go travel to San Diego and Las Vegas, very fun times!
I was rejected from NHS but accepted into CSF when I applied. I began diverging from my brother's life and forging my own path. I became a regular at numerous community service events all across Los Angeles. To visualize the discrepancies I launched in my own life: in my Junior year, I earned 3.29 and 3.71 GPAs respectively.
Senior year, my friends were enthusiastic to pick my brain and decipher my career goals after turning my life downside-up. I responded with Communication! It’s so mesmerizing just how distinct oral communication is from written communication; discovering from AP English Lang and Academic Decathlon. Confidence, rhetorical devices, and literature are all interesting to me, and their confluence with marketing. My brother would testify to how many people majoring in Communication entered the company he's in for Marketing research, using professional prose and expertness of the English lexicon to strategically design and disseminate advertisements. It was perfect! I enjoyed running my little food business. I'm likewise a major chatterbox and figured I might as well be prepared in the arts of communication to grow my extent to which I can professionally communicate.
During my 1st week of senior year, I spoke with our school’s college counselor for the 1st time. They inspected my transcript and told me I likely would be rejected from all colleges, even after my upward trend. They said I would see myself attending a Community College. If I preserve my upward trend, I may perhaps attend my local school, Cal State LA. I asked my smart amigo the exact questions I asked the college counselor and confessed everything the counselor advised was bull. He said I would’ve likely gotten into Cal State LA due to local admissions criteria. He said Dominguez Hills was also local in this context and I should apply for the peace of mind (even if they didn’t exactly offer my major choice). For the UCs, my friend was candid in admitting these universities have strict admissions criteria and I may as well just apply to those I was genuinely interested in.
Likewise, my friend informed me it wouldn’t hurt to apply to our local Community College anyhow as there was no commitment to attend immediately and the application only took roughly 20 minutes when he helped me apply on the spot. LA City College is a great Community College with many online courses, and it’s not impossible to complete 2 years of work in a year as he’s done tons of Community College coursework. I applied and was accepted way back in October.
For one, it was surreal to recognize I barely met the GPA threshold to apply for the UC’s. I never once visualized earning the GPA to even be considered. My brother wasn’t qualified for the UC’s as a high school senior and applauded my determination to turn my life around, as my friends, teachers, and club advisors did similarly. That said, I predominantly centered the UC Personal Insight Questions around the very topics I’m more or less communicating right now and heavily advocated for my upward trend and enthusiasm for Communication and English to motivate confident, well-articulated, and scholarly students from poverty backgrounds like me.
My friends did help revise and ghost write my essays as they picked my brain. Through their numerous revisions, I felt I best articulated my reflections and the faith I encompassed to live extraordinarily. I'm very grateful for their help, don't get me twisted. I just went with essays nobody viewed or helped edit but myself. I did receive an optional Letter of Recommendation invite for UC Berkeley after applying. I asked my Academic Decathlon and AP Literature teachers to write LORs in this case. Both have witnessed my personal gradient in real time and motivated me profoundly. One last thing, I am honored to say for my Senior year, I earned 4.0 unweighted and 4.29 weighted GPAs in both semesters. Unfortunately, none of this progress counted within the context of my college applications. Yet I was personally proud of my improvement and capability to tackle college coursework as a high school student and thrive in this environment.
My college results:
UC Davis – Rejected
UC Santa Barbara – Rejected
UC San Diego – Rejected
UCLA – Rejected
UC Berkeley – Rejected
Cal State LA – Accepted
Cal State Dominguez Hills – Accepted
Cal State Fullerton – Rejected
Cal State Long Beach – Rejected
San Diego State University – Rejected
Cal Poly Pomona – Rejected
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo – Accepted for my alternative major, Agricultural Communication.
An important note: UC Berkeley was the last college result I received in late March. Roughly a week later, I received a spontaneous email from UC Merced stating that since I was (just) in the top 9% of my school class and got rejected from all the UCs, I was admitted to UC Merced for Sociology despite never applying lol.
It's now exactly a month since I began my studies at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo! I was intensely reluctant to commit here initially. It was a major change of environment and an opportunity I was very shocked at receiving. It’s actually a major culture shock given few people at Cal Poly come from income levels like mine, or were admitted with low GPAs like mine. My friends personally drove me to visit the campus in April and I fell in love with everything! San Luis Obispo is a beautiful city with a strong community and prestigious programs. I did ultimately admit it would be wasteful to select Cal State LA or Dominguez Hills for the sake of emotional familiarity. Looking back, choosing comfort can be lethal in the pursuit of greatness, and I committed here under the foresight that I would build the stage to help other students in poverty reach success.
Truthfully, Agricultural Communication is not exactly the program I envisioned. There’s a lot of journalism involved. Journalism for farms, food companies, and animals. Although it’s very niche and neat, I want to aim my sights at Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Public Speaking and be someone who can enlighten and educate! I’m looking to eventually change my majors into Economics, Agribusiness, or regular Communications. I'm not quite sure yet but we’ll see what happens!
I’m an educated foo now and I wake up every morning in gratitude! I visit the beach often with my new friends, learning to surf and roller skate on the weekends, and appreciate dining at new restaurants in Downtown SLO. I went from believing I would die at a young age because many people in my community do, to educating myself in a great school and living in a wonderful city, so I know anyone and everyone can be great!
Definitely ask questions if you have any. I'll do my best to respond!

2023.09.19 18:38 No_Communication8361 If you have college credit for biology and chemistry don’t move on to Organic chemistry

I took both Dual Credit General Biology and AP Chemistry with a passing score on the exam my junior year. I was originally going to take forensic science my senior year since that is what I plan on majoring in but my counselor said taking forensic science would be too easy for me because of how advanced I was in science. She said I should take dual credit science again for my senior year my options were microbiology, organic chemistry, cell biology, genetics, environmental science, zoology, and inorganic chemistry. Organic chemistry has always seemed more interesting to me than inorganic,as you know AP chemistry is basically all inorganic chemistry so I wanted to learn something completely different and I love chemistry. I decided to take both organic chemistry and Microbiology. Microbiology is a fucking breeze no math I basically just show up and get a grade honestly. Organic chemistry though, the scheduling for organic chemistry is awful because it’s a 4 HOUR CLASS the dual credit counselor decided to just have me do full time dual enrollment instead of part time where I go back and forth between Highschool and college classes. I was fine with this because that meant more sleep but was I wrong. I Will stay up past midnight studying for organic chemistry now just to fail every exam, the only reason I’m passing with a C is because the class is with a technical college so they let you do retakes a lot and even some extra credit assignments it’s basically Highschool but harder. And it’s crazy that I’m failing because the class is honestly interesting but unlike AP chemistry everything in organic chemistry is very specific if one thing is off the entire thing is wrong. There are so many rules and laws you have to apply in organic chemistry also if you forget a single law your answer is wrong. Nomenclature is completely different from AP chemistry in organic chemistry instead of naming molecules based off if they are ionic or covalent you name molecules based off their functional group and structure and a lot of the structures are so similar it can be easy to get confused. It’s kind of hard to explain but organic chemistry is more practical than AP chemistry do you basically have to forget a lot of the theories you learned in AP chemistry and relearn those same theories in a lab if that makes sense if probably doesn’t make sense because organic chemistry doesn’t make sense but it’s somehow still interesting? 2023.09.16 10:12 fluento-team Help designing a power latch to activate when a switch changes state (with auto turnoff)

Hi! Newbie here. Did some electronics years ago in University but forgot most of it.
Been trying to remember everything, and found this tutorial https://randomnerdtutorials.com/latching-power-switch-circuit-auto-power-off-circuit-esp32-esp8266-arduino/ on how to do a power latch which lets you turn off an MCU when its job is done.
So to practice a bit, I decided to make a similar power latch, with the difference that instead of activating the circuit when a switch closes, it should activate it when a switch changes state. The requirements I set for it are:
1- When the switch changes state, the circuit should transmit ~170mA to the MCU during around 1 second (so it has time to initialize, and set a GPIO to HIGH, which will hold the MCU on until the task is done)
2- When the MCU's task is done, it will set GPIO to LOW and it should turn off the MOSFET, so the MCU stops receiving voltage (not sure what the nomenclature is for this). Please see the randomnerdtutorials link if this is not clear.
3- The MCU should receive ~170mA during startup (after startup it's okay to receive around 100mA).
This is the current circuit I have: https://tinyurl.com/ywvbywpn has three problems:
a- Main problem: the circuit always transmits voltage to the MCU (represented with a LED). I'm not sure what's the way to make the circuit stop transmitting the voltage after ~1 second.
b- Despite the 5V input, it transmits only 2V to the MCU, how could I make it so there's less voltage drop? I guess the resistor on top of the switch should be changed?
c- When the switch changes to closed it takes a while to turn the circuit on. I guess this could be fixed by changing the capacitor next to the XOR?
Note that the 0V input on the left represents the GPIO of the MCU to reset it.
Any pointers will be appreciated, even if they are small easier circuits I can look at that would help me understand some basic concepts for this circuit. Specially when it comes to how to stop transmitting electricity to the MCU after X seconds, so it doesnt stay ON all the time.
I'm really newbie when it comes to this kind of circuits, and most of the tutorials I find online don't really explain the process of thought behind each component. Either they give you a full circuit or they are generic tutorials on how components work. That's why I decided to challenge myself to modify that circuit, with not much luck.
Thank you!

2023.09.09 19:13 paperclipman123 Question about initializers and when you actually need to use "self."

I'm relatively new to Python. During the tutorial where I built the code below, I noticed something that I can't make sense of.
On the line where with "objects = self.create_objects()" as part of the initializer there is a field that doesn't require "self." before it. In fact adding "self." breaks the operation of the code.
The instructor for the tutorial explained that all fields in a class need to have that "self." nomenclature in the initializer then proceeded to type a field without that, giving no explanation as to why. I'm sure it's a simple explanation, but google hasn't come through for me here. Why does that field not need "self." but all others in the initializer do?

class Game: #Sets up the game with five objects and a default attempt count of 0 and a solution code of 731 def __init__(self): self.attemtps = 0 objects = self.create_objects() self.room = Room(731, objects) self.victory_state = 0 #Creates the game objects def create_objects(self): return [ GameObject( "Sweater", "It's a blue sweater that had the number 12 switched on it.", "Someone has unstitched the second number, leaving only the 1.", "The sweater smells of laundry detergent."), GameObject( "Chair", "It's a wooden chair with only 3 legs.", "Someone had deliberately snapped off one of the legs.", "It smells like old wood."),

Help with how to go about learning chemistry (specifically organic)
My chem teacher seems a little all over the place when it comes to teaching things in general, making it a bit hard for me to consistently follow and properly learn the subject imo. But while she went over a problem where an alcohol and a carboxcylic acid are combined with a sulfuric acid catalyst over reflux to form an ester, in this case Ethyl methanoate. Partially I would like to know where to look for resources that would be able to tell me how organic chemistry molecules are transformed into one another on a level of how they transform and why as opposed to, it just does that. And secondly she mentioned that the reaction starts, in this case with the catalyst, by the sulfuric acid giving an H+ atom to the ethanol, which binds to the oxygen, then subsequently “pops” off the OH group (now h2O) and I don’t understand why that happens as opposed to the oxygen having 3 bonds, which from my understanding only generally can’t happen due to the issue of covalent bonds being a give 1 take 1, which in my head is nullified by the O to H+ bond being a lone pair donor bond. Sorry if I’m spewing lunatic ramblings, but I just want to know if there’s a way where I don’t have to rote memorize for things like this, fine with like, names and nomenclature, but not for this, since I feel it could be logically explained.

2023.07.30 20:19 nebulousOasis 🤓 🌹 Oasis Network Monthly Q&A June '23

Community is the heart of our project and we’re always looking to answer all questions answered by community members. We receive a lot of questions on our channels and answers might get lost in discussions, ergo we decided to create a monthly thread here where we’ll cover the most asked questions from our community.
Q: Is latency a good indicator since the blockchain won't write blocks unless there is something to write? A: Yes, but it'll still take time. so do make sure that you're measuring latency from a specific transaction broadcast time.
Q: Are there differences between the privacy models of cipher and sapphire, or is the only difference the programming language? The cipher repo does not seem to be very active compared to sapphire. Is the plan to focus on sapphire? A: The differences are in smart contract language, and they use the same ParaTime features to handle encrypted transactions and sealed state. Cipher has easier support for declaring public state though, so watch out for that. Focus on sapphire is consistent.
Q: What is Oasis Odyssey? A: Oasis Odyssey is a loyalty program introduced by Oasis to reward and engage its global community of builders and creators in the Web3 space.
Q: What are the quests and challenges included in Oasis Odyssey? A: Some of the quests and challenges in Oasis Odyssey include writing articles, creating Twitter threads, designing stickers and memes, promoting events, supporting the community in third-party platforms, participating in trivia contests, creating videos, and contributing to developer documentation and tutorials.

2023.06.29 21:25 mackstanc Extremely beginner question about Running Man's count/signature

Sorry if I am using the nomenclature wrong, I have neither a musical nor dance background, but I always have wanted to give shuffle a shot and finally found enough motivation in myself to do so.
Anyway, the question that I have is that I've heard lots of people say that Running Man's moves on the count of two: "leg up-leg down, leg up-leg down", etc.
However, I noticed in many tutorials, here for example, that actually many people include a knee bend in-between the steps, so it's actually more of a "bend-leg up-bend-leg down, bend-leg up-bend-leg down,". Is it something I should try to emulate, or focus for now just on the leg up and leg down?
Thank you in advance for any advice!

2023.06.14 07:38 ExpensiveAd6014 My write-up as a 517 scorer

First of all, I have to dedicate my score to this sub. I legit would not have known what materials were best/when to take FLs/what the fuck the difference is between self-serving bias and actor observer bias/etc/etc/etc if not for this sub. So, the least I can do is give something back!
I'm very happy with my 5/13 exam. I got a 517 (130/128/129/130). I want to preface this by saying I had an undergrad cGPA of 4.0 as a molecular bio major and biochem minor. Not saying this to be a cock, rather to say that I already had a decently strong background in gen chem, ochem, biochem, physics and bio. Of course, I still had to review all of these concepts that I had a very strong grasp of about 2-3 yrs ago (I graduated Spring 2022), and learn some ones I had never seen before.
MY FLs
Kaplan 1 and 2: 510, 511. Took these after being about 60% thru content review.
AAMC 5, S, 1 (in that order of progression): 513, 515, 518.
5/13 real thing: 517 (130/128/129/130)
TIMELINE
In total, I studied for just under 6 months, from early November 2022 until my 5/13/23 exam. I definitely had a month in there where I feel like I hardly studied at all/lost so much motivation, so total studying time probably was closer to 5 months.
MATERIALS
Kaplan book set with 3 FLs and online practice material (only ended up using 2 of the FLs and hardly any of the online practice material)
86 page Khan Academy P/S doc
Jack Westin free daily passages
AAMC paid materials (I bought whatever the big package was, but only ended up using the section banks and FL 1 because I ran out of time, oops, wasted $$$ there)
AAMC free FLs (sample and FL5)
CONTENT REVIEW
I bought the Kaplan book set and read through all the books except for the CARS and P/S books. From what I've heard, you do not need to buy a new set of Kaplan books, Kaplan books that are a few years old will still be accurate and cover essentially the same information. I just didn't want to bother with the stress of having old books (I'm kinda nitpicky in that way) and just bought a new Kaplan set which came with 3 FLs and some online practice materials.
I made a notebook for every subject and took notes for every chapter I read, circling big equations to know, key concepts, etc.
The biggest tip I have for content review is get through it faster than I did. I took about 4 months to get through content review. This is too long. I struggled getting through some of the more dense Kaplan chapters, taking 2-3 hours on some of them. As you will read in the next few sections, I actually didn't end up finishing most of the books. If possible, force yourself to be okay with not being able to fully understand every concept the first time you read through it, and getting through content instead of getting caught up on a chapter and only doing that one on a given day.
CP
I read through the entirety of the gen chem kaplan book, most of the physics kaplan book, and about half of the ochem kaplan book. I'm sorry but I just could not dedicate myself to drudging through the entire ochem book knowing that there are USUALLY not too many ochem problems on test day. I just read through the high yield chapters regarding nomenclature, substitution rxns, alcohols, carbonyls, redox, and purifications/spec/etc and called it good. I did have about 5-6 ochem questions on test day, and honestly I did have to guess on some of them, but the amount of time I would have had to spend studying all of ochem to know these questions would have meant I would have sacrificed studying time in other more important areas. A lot of what shows up on your test is luck.
I don't recommend reading the entire passage before answering the questions. Waste of time. Become good at identifying key parts of each passage to answer each specific question. AAMC section bank for CP is good for this.
Know the major equations. Know your units, especially the derived units. Enough said. I can't tell you how many times knowing how to interconvert between force, work/energy, electric field strength, electric potential, voltage, charge, current, capacitance, etc was helpful for FL questions. Kaplan was good for knowing your units and equations - especially for electro shit.
For math in this section, become good at quick math. remember, you don't have a calculator. become comfortable with using scientific notation. Leah4sci has a great online tutorial for using math on the mcat.
CARS
I didn't bother reading the CARS Kaplan book. Seemed like a waste of time. I instead just did the daily CARS passages on jack westin, every time trying to become faster and more accurate.
Used jack westin passages as practice. these are honestly great practice problems. On average, you should be spending no more than 10 minutes per passage on the real thing. If you feel you're spending too much time on a question, pick what feels right and move tf on. You don't want to waste time and then not have enough time to answer easier questions you would have otherwise gotten correctly with a bit more time. Become good at gauging how long you're taking for each CARS passage. I was completely happy with a 128 on CARS (90th percentile).
BB
I read through almost all of kaplan bio and almost all of kaplan biochem. Again, I just couldn't get to the end of the books, I skipped over some evolutionary bio stuff as well as some more low yield biochem topics like FA synthesis/beta oxidation/real in depth details on metabolism - I knew their very very basics, but again, I did not want to spend so much time on stuff that was unlikely to show up on my exam. But, I did spend a lot of time on AMINO ACIDS (KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM) and PROTEINS and more high yield topics like glycolysis, gluconeo, citrate cycle, ETC, glycogen, pentose phosphate. There's really no way to learn these other than to just memorize them. Know the enzymes, know their substrates, which steps produce what, etc. It sucks, it's overwhelming, but you can do it... about half of BB is knowing your shit.
The other half is experimental analysis. I always thought that when people said "omg experimental analysis is so hard" I was like "nah it can't be that bad." I'm here to tell you that on the MCAT, it fucking IS hard. some of these BB passages are so convoluted with so many goddamn proteins and pathways and control groups. Really the only way to get comfortable with these passages is to do practice passages, either through the AAMC section bank, jack westin, or FLs. On my real thing, the experimental analysis was SO HARD. I walked out of the BB section legit thinking I scored a 126 (I scored a 129, happy with that). But, I had consistently been scoring 130/131 on BB and I would have gotten there on my real thing if I had been able to understand the passages a bit more.
PS
This section was the bane of my existence because it was the only section I had zero background knowledge in. I was starting from the ground up. I didn't read through the kaplan P/S book because from what I found online it's a waste of time. what I've seen is lots of people will watch the khan academy videos for MCAT P/S and follow along with the 300 page document (the link for this is all over this sub). There's also an 86 page document that is essentially a shorter, more concise version of the 300 page document (link is also everywhere in this sub). I opted for this 86 page doc. I think the 300 page doc is quite messy and would take me WAY too long to get through. I also did not bother to watch the khan academy videos because I felt like just reading thru the 86 page document was enough. I supplemented this document with a P/S anki deck based off of the khan academy P/S videos, I used the Pankow PS deck (got about 2/3 done with it), I thought it was solid. long, but solid.
I spent so much time cramming all the theories of PS into my head. again, it's one of those things that sucks and seems impossible, but I'm telling you that I thought the same thing but just got it done. Just get through the document. You'll surprise yourself when you start pulling pysch theories out of your ass to answer these questions.
I think I ended up getting lucky with my PS on the real deal. It literally seemed to test all the things I knew really well from PS. IDK if I just got lucky (a lot of the MCAT is luck with what shows up).
I used the Jack westin passages and aamc section bank for practice. Also used this sub for questions regarding certain theories and the differences between terms n stuff. PS surprisingly ended up being tied with CP for my highest section on the real deal - never would have thought that I would have scored higher on PS than BB.
FLs and Practice
The kaplan FLs are solid practice if you want to use them before using up your valuable AAMC FLs. I took 1 and 2 and thought they were good for identifying my weak areas. Personally, I SEE NO VALUE in even bothering taking a full length before starting content review. It seems like a waste of time. 90% of people will be weak in every section, you have to study everything anyways, might as well get started ASAP.
Replicate your test day conditions as much as you can, even down to the time of day you do it, don't have your phone during breaks, etc. Replication is key.
This is gonna sound crazy, but the only practice problems I ended up completing were found in the free jack westin passages, all of the FLs I did, and the AAMC section banks for PS, CP, and BB. I didn't buy UWorld simply because I didn't have the time. I don't really know what to say about this. I definitely feel like I did a lot of practice problems but ultimately I do not think I did as many as people generally recommend to do. IDK.
Real Deal
I don't know about anyone else, but the studying I did the day before my real thing likely only tired my brain out and did not help me on the real exam. Relax, relax, relax, is my tip. Get good sleep. Eat well the day before. Listen to a favorite song of yours on the way to the test center (I chose Be Above It by Tame Impala - just one guy btw). On test day, bring snacks that you ate during your practice FLs that you felt kept your energy up. HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF.
It is completely normal to walk out of the exam feeling like you did horribly. I walked out of mine feeling devastated, like I spent the last 5 months of studying for nothing. All I could think about was all the questions I think I got wrong. But, as humans, we conveniently forget about all the questions we did well on, and we can only focus on the bad ones.
Overall Reflection
I'm grateful that I had a pretty solid foundation in the STEM side of the MCAT before studying, it made studying some sections much less painful. That said, the MCAT is a brick wall of an exam, and it's crazy how a part of your life it becomes. This thing was hanging over my head for HALF A YEAR. It becomes a part of your every day being. It's constantly in the back of your mind, nagging at you. Do I understand what that psych theory is? What's the 4th stage of freud's psychosexual theory?? How many ATP are made with 1 NADH in the ETC? Which glycosidic bonds are found in glycogen? What's the name of complex 3 of the ETC again?? SO MANY DETAILS TO KEEP STRAIGHT IN YOUR HEAD.
My best advice for getting over this mental hurdle is to remind yourself that people have gotten through the MCAT before you, and that you have gotten over hurdles before. Time keeps on ticking, and no matter what happens in the time from when you start studying and your scheduled exam, you will be taking that exam in 5 months. It will be here before you know it. How will you spend those 5 months?

2023.06.10 01:32 Enrys WTF is Rocking?

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

PLEASE READ:

Before you start reading this post, PLEASE comment down below your answer to this question:

"What is rocking?"

There are no wrong answers, I just want to know what you think. After that, please come back and read the rest of this post. You can edit your comment with a before and after so we don't get all confused.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

This is a long post, I hope you read through it and give it some thought.

TLDR: Americans seem to use the term rocking to describe a certain shuffle technique, and are partially right. Opinions on why this term exists also given.
I stumbled across this term while taking a shuffle class at my local dance studio. The instructor described rocking as placing the stepping foot of the Tstep in front or behind you. This was news to me considering I have been shuffling for 10 years using the Melbourne Rocker style or Clubstyle and had never heard the term used in that way. To me rocking was this, this, this, this or this.
I decided to take this opportunity to learn and grow my knowledge. Using Youtube I found a whole bunch of videos like this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, and this one. These linked videos will be what I am basing this post on.

There are two key elements that a lot of videos like this state are rocking:

1. Microbouncing or small hops mainly without Tstep
2. Stepping with the active leg behind you, in front of you, and cross leg. Sometimes referred to as a sequence, other times referred to as rocking itself.
There are other videos that state rocking is either the back and forth motion of the upper body, or the transition between RM and Tstep. EmpowerMelbourneShuffle also brings up the idea of a Halfmoon or Figure 8 pattern that possibly emerges from the 8x2 count of most 4 to the floor EDM these days. This back and forth pattern is most likely an organic phenomenon that just matched with the musical structure of the music. Listen to this song and count the measures using 1 to 8. New elements and changes are introduced every 16 or 2x8 counts. Watching someone like Brenton, his left to right orientation changes every 2 counts or so. I would say this is not a supremely concentrated effort based on my own experience as well, just the natural flow of the music lending itself to it. A more exaggerated and clear example is that of AUS/07 style with the changes in spacing.
The history of the term rocking is also unclear. Gaara states: "The origins of the term "rocking" is still unclear. There are accounts that it wasn't used commonly in the scene until the filming of the Melbourne Shuffler doco. Yet we also have Gary Shepherd's accounts of it being in the late 90's. As far fetched as some of his claims were, he was there for the beginning of the dance in Australia. Sadly he is no longer with us."
Now according to the Melbourne OG's who were the pioneers of the Melbourne Rockers style, rocking means "going wild or don't think, just do it". The closest analogue I can think of in American English is jam, jamming, or jamming out/jam out. If you were to replace the vernacular, it wouldn't really make much sense right? Imagine if in hip hop/urban dance the word "jam" or "jamming" was used to describe a particular technique, and there were tutorials on how to "jam". If semantic satiation hasn't gotten to you yet I hope you can understand my example.
To further my point here, let's look at the verbiage of "break", "pop", "krump", "lock", etc. Each of these words can be modified to denote something specific. Breakers, breaking, popper, popping, krumper, krumping, locker, locking, etc. It would be a little strange to take a term like "pop" and use in waacking for example to talk about muscle contraction, but that is only half of the story. Therefore, this can also extend into shuffling so as to designate Rockers and rocking. While the argument could be made that this vernacular variety does not extend to the rest of the shuffle styles such as MAS, AUS/07, RUS, etc and so shouldn't extend to Rocker's style I would say that the usage of the term Rock and it's associated words have already been used to mean a particular style already.
Though there is no documentation or official history on where the use of Rocking to describe a technique in America exists, I can only speculate it was some kind of "game of telephone" phenomenon where as the years went on and Cutting Shapes and Cali style became more or less the dominant style in America someone somewhere misinterpreted Rocking and ran with it. With the explosion of Shaping on the internet and the new age of tutorials reaching millions of views, these videos pushed out the Melbourne Shuffle and its branches out of the cultural spotlight. Therefore, this meme ran off the races and thus become the dominant idea of what Rocking is, at least in America. Again, just my hypothesis. I can also speculate these people and most (not all) of those agreeing with the usage of Rocking in this way have not watched the original Melbourne Rockers but that's my personal bias showing. What is important to note is that when asked a lot of these shuffle tutorials point to Emylee Ratzlaf as where they learned this technique from. I've tried to reach her for questions, but no response so far.
Of course we could just drop it there and call it a day but one question lingered in my mind.

What if they were (kind of) right?

Let's look at some more footage of Rocker's style. ShuffleTimeline does establish that hops are part of Rocker's Style to "control direction and floor usage" to adapt to the tight spaces of Melbourne clubs. So let's look for that in the footage. If you use the . and , keys on your keyboard you can go frame by frame in a Youtube video. Looking at Matt, Brenton, Francis (TSW) and Josh we can see that Yes, they are microbouncing or using small hops in their Tstep. I highly doubt they were putting a whole lot of conscious thought into these hops, but I can speculate that it is an effective way to control direction and floor usage. Wait, that sounds kind of familiar....
What I mean is that if you tstep without microbouncing and only using the pivoting motion moving any direction that is not side to side becomes difficult and a little bit unnatural. Using the bounce in combination with the Tstep allows better repositioning on the dance floor to control your movement as you try not to hit other people as you dance. A keynote here is that the rockers in Melbourne 90% of the time still had the Tstep in their movement, and not the technique taught above which is sometimes solely microbouncing without tstep pivoting. The times they didn't could be attributed to a sticky floor not easily allowing a pivot at that time (has happened to me before), fatigue, or other factors. Not being able to pivot your foot against the friction of the sticky floor can result in a movement instead that has the foot move backwards in what is described today as a "microbounce". It's a lot easier to hop backwards rather than fight against the stickiness to slide your feet.
Have you really read this far? I thank you for continuing to read my post. As an Easter Egg, please mention how much you like coffee deserts in your comment.
Let's address the second point now of stepping behind, in front, and cross leg in a sequence or otherwise. This is a perplexing thought to me as there was no need before to distinguish the above as specifically rocking itself. As we can see in this Project Style video the placement of the stepping foot is a matter of creativity in the dancer. After all, it would be kind of boring if you just only Tstep to the left and right, reverse or regular. The placement itself is not a technique on it's own if that makes sense, nor a sequence. As Gaara says in his own comment, "Also Melbourne Shufflers didn't teach sequences. It's meant to be left to your own imagination what you can do with/outside the core steps."
As we can see, these tutorials are in my opinion partially right. They get some of the picture of what rocker's style is but for some reason use the term Rocking to describe it. Instead, make the distinction between microbouncing as a technique, and demonstrating step placement as a matter of creativity on the dancer's part, not labeling them both as "rocking" because that term means something else. Even so, microbouncing itself seems to be taking an environmental roadblock and turning it into a "formal technique".
To summarize, these tutorials are kind of misleading and in my opinion the nomenclature should more clearly reflect what's being taught to not muddy the history and terminology of this dance.
