2024.05.10 20:57 MoarGnD Mi Zacatecas v Zacatecas

Whenever Mexican food comes up here, there's spirited discussion about both places, probably because of the name similarity and proximity to each other. I wanted to create a separate post just for these two to avoid the noise of comparing to other places.
What specifically do you like about one over the other? I like both places but they both have their strengths. I'll start the discussion off with some of what I like about both.
Please don't use this to disparage one over the other, they're both good family owned local spots that deserve support. A dish being better at one over the other doesn't mean the other is automatically bad.
Zacatecas. I like the red enchilada sauce they use for the chili relleno and other dishes slightly better. The depth of flavor and complexity edges Mi Zacatecas. The sauce is possibly why I think their chili relleno edges out Mi Zacateas. I also like Zacatecas' Chili Verde a bit more.
Mi Zacatecas. On a consistent overall basis, I like their chips more. Fresher and better tasting but if they're off, I've had Zacatecas be better. I like the Chile Colorado here a lot! It may be unfair to compare to Zacatecas because they don't have the dish, but if I'm undecided on which place to go, the Chile Colorado can often swing the decision for me, I like it here so much. I also like they have a good Molcajete here. There's something very soul satisfying about this dish.
On a non food comparison, the parking at both places suck. But Mi Zacatecas is slightly better because there are more spots and easier to get into than Zacatecas.
To repeat, I like both and not trying to trash either one. I'm curious what people prefer for one over the other and not compared to other Mexican places.

I love Chile rellenos but roasting the chiles over a gas burner is a pain. I purchased an air fryer with the intention of broiling the chiles like I do in my conventional gas oven. I want the flavor of the scorched chiles. My air fryer has a broil function but I fear it will only bake the chiles, mo scorch. Has anyone used the air fryer to process the chiles? My air fryer is French Door air fryer 360.

2024.05.08 21:55 EatinSLOCal Taco King - Review

Taco King - Review
Background:
I’ve written before about nostalgia and growing up in the Pacific Northwest where there is a chain of Mexican restaurants I loved before I knew that tacos don’t naturally come hard-shelled. What I didn’t mention before was that I was a fiend for chicken enchiladas as a kid and while I realize today’s location has “Taco” in their name, when I walked in, I immediately craved enchiladas.

Setting:
📍158 Higuera St ste B, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401
Taco King is located in the shopping center where South Street and Higuera meet, across from the second SLODOCO SLO location. Inside is painted loud with bright colors and cool murals with a good amount of tables and booths, and some outside seating too. Taco King is open Monday – Saturday 10 AM – 9 PM.

King Trio Enchiladas
What I Had:
I had the King Trio Enchiladas, the complimentary Chips & Salsa, and a Mexican Coca-Cola. The Chips and Salsa were pretty standard, I would wager the salsa our of a container as it wasn’t spicy. The King Trio Enchiladas is one cheese, one ground beef, and one shredded chicken enchilada topped with enchilada sauce and topped with cheese and garnished with sour cream served with Spanish rice and choice of refried, black, or whole beans (I picked refried). The three enchiladas were good, my favorite of the three was the cheese which had a great gooey texture. The beef tasted more like it was shredded than ground and the shredded chicken was thick and not entirely shredded. Personal taste thing, I think growing up on Tex-Mex by way of the Canadian Border, I like a less earthy Enchilada Sauce, as the one here was a little too bitter for me. That being said, everything else needed some more seasoning, the Spanish rice and refried beans and meats didn’t have enough seasoning to make anything stand out. Either way, I cleaned the whole plate.

Would I Have It Again:
Maybe. While I had their namesake King Enchiladas, I should’ve had the Tacos at Taco King. They’ve obviously been around for as long as they have for a reason and they have a long list of other things to try. Plus the staff is super friendly and made sure I was well taken care of while I was there. So with all of that in mind, Taco King gets an Eatin’ SLOCal Rating of – Give it a Try!

2024.05.07 18:01 Olivesplace Green Chile Sausage Balls

Green Chile Sausage Balls
servings 34 sausage balls
Ingredients
1 pound ground pork breakfast sausage
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 cups biscuit mix
½ cup canned diced green chiles, drained
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F and spray a baking sheet with non stick cooking spray.
Drain the green chiles in a fine mesh strainer, pressing them down to get out as much liquid as you can.
Then mix all of the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
Using a 1 tablespoon cookie dough scoop, scoop out equal portions of the sausage mixture, gently roll and place, evenly spaced on a greased baking sheet.
Place in preheated oven and bake for 18-20 minutes or until the sausage balls or golden brown.
Remove from oven and use a spatula to place the sausage balls onto a paper towel to remove any excess grease.
Trim away any crispy cheese that formed around the bottom edges, if you don't want that. Place on your sausage balls on a platter or in a bowl and serve!

2024.05.06 22:09 Justhelpmealready ISFJ Struggles 💔💔💔due to being a spiritually sensitive empath

So I was LITCHERALLY BAKING SOME MUFFINETTES FOR MY LOVELY COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER ATCH MY HIGHSCKEWL 👅👅👅👅
I am SUCH… a loving and RESPECTFUL… member of the COMMUNITY.. 🌸💋❤️👅😘👅🌺🌼🌹💐🌸🌼🌼🌺🌼 That i went out of my way to prepare this 👅👅👅#MomFriend #Ate! I LOVE.. people.. (Except you Tiffany I hope you kill yourself while your family watches.)
ANYWAYS SLAYY… So I approached my besties ❤️❤️❤️ (INFJ, ENFP, and.. that one gross ENTP…)
SO CHILE!! I was giving a GRAND speech.. everybody absolutely adored me 🥺🥺🥺🥺 CAUSE I was just so.. so 🥹cute and petite.. 😣😖😖😣😣 THAT EVERYONE COULDNT HELP BUT LOVE ME.. 😘😘😘
BUT.. my days of fun ended when the ENTP started making fun of my voice 🥺🥺🥺 I was SO FUCKING ANGRY 👹👹👹.. I mean.. I was so sad 😖😖😖 How could he betray me..🥺🥺
The next day.. my friends- The INFJ and ENFP we’re hanging out with hin INSTEAD OF ME.. they were going bowling WITHOUT ME! DONT THEY KNOW STREAMING GILMORE GIRLS ON NETFLIX IS MORE FUN?! UNGRATEFUL PIGS.. I MADE THEM 👹👹👹
Next.. the ENTP got a higher score than me on the chem exam 💔💔💔 I WAS So HEARTBROKEN… I was truly brocken at that point 🌺🌺🌺 its so hard to be spiritually sensitive..
I went up to the ENTP.. and I confronted him.. HE WAS TRYING TO RUIN MY PERFECT LIFE.. But he just laughed at me and said “Lol.. womp womp skill issue kiddo” and then started spreading rumours about me! 😭😭😭😭😭
So I devised a plan 😈😈😈 I needed to get rid of the ENTP.. I was at my music class.. and I played a music disk in the background to make it seem like I was still in the room so I had an alibi.. 💋💋💋❤️❤️❤️ Then I snuck out.. and went to his house.. I broke in and lets just say things got a little.. messy 👅👅👅 I managed to return to my music teacher’s house before the recording ended, and she walked in the room without noticing a thing 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣WHAT A FLOP.
The police brushed off his death as a suicide.. the INFJ (EW INTUITIVE..🤮🤮🤮) managed to deduce that I murdered the ENTP.. no one believed that thing.. I was just a sweet little cookie baker after all 🥺🥺🥺. The music teacher later testified that I was at my music lessons.. so it would’ve been impossible for me to have been anywhere else. 🤣🤣🤣
Anyways.. I used the ENTP’s death to start a suicide awarness program for youth 💔💔 to raise awareness that even the most brightest and happiest of souls.. no matter how fucking weird they are… might be struggling inside.. 💔
JK 👅👅🤣💋💋
he deserved it. 🙂

2024.05.06 07:01 Babyy_Cakess690 Low carb cabbage enchiladas

Low carb cabbage enchiladas
Found a low carb cabbage enchilada recipe and just had to make it for my family! I followed the recipe very little, essentially used it for the inspiration. Making a dish my own/recreating is one of favorite challenges plus I love to be explorative with combinations and seasonings!)
Original recipe called for shredded chicken, I used ground.
I mixed a can of El pato into a can of victorias red enchilada sauce, diced tomato’s with green chiles and let my seasoned ground chicken, onion and garlic simmer on low/med with added fresh squeezed lime juice, cumin, red pepper flakes, chili powder, cayenne, and red bell pepper!
Original recipe said to use a head of green cabbage, I almost cried. Something told me I should have gotten Napa cabbage instead but I didn’t listen to my gut. The green cabbage head I got was soooo intertwined I couldn’t peel it apart to have big enough leafs to wrap with lol. So back to the store I went to get that Napa cabbage. I also enjoy working with Napa cabbage to make various roll dishes! And finally I topped the enchiladas with fiesta blend and Monterey Jack cheese!
Preheat 350 and bake for 20 mins and you’re good to go!

2024.05.05 06:10 Fluid_Engineering_30 New to Me Chiles Rellenos con Queso

New to Me Chiles Rellenos con Queso
Has anyone else tried Trader Joe’s Chiles Rellenos con Queso? I found these in a local TJ’s after seeing them on IG. They are in the freezer section and very easy to make in the air fryer. There’s 2 in the package and comes with some sort of tomato chile sauce; I did not care for the sauce and there really isn’t enough for both rellenos. The rellenos in an egg soufflé batter, are very tasty and I was only able to eat one. I had mine over some of TJ’s Spanish style rice and topped it with a little extra queso fresco. My only suggestion to Trader Joe’s is to either omit the sauce or change it; reminded me of watery tomato juice with a few random onion slices.
