A New Chain: Routine

2024.05.19 12:46 Sin-God A New Chain: Routine

The church's earliest visitors on Sunday are a group of kind-hearted do-gooders. And Lucas is there too.
The group, including Lucas, is diligently doing last-minute preparations, carefully and skillfully tending to the food they expertly prepared yesterday. Every single person involved in the work does their part with impressive ease and earned confidence. Lucas's careful contributions, both his direct, visible work, and the boons conferred by his presence allow them to do their work with newfound ease, confidence, and remarkable luck. Lucas occasionally makes minor missteps, but those are due more to the drawbacks he is enduring than anything he actually does. And every time he makes a mistake it's so minor a few deft movements are enough for him to overcome them. All the while he is texting Hannah and is visibly excited to volunteer, even though his motives are still quite selfish.
Lucas wisely does not take a leadership role here. The diligent figure follows the lead of his more experienced peers, and his endless, untiring contributions are enough to allow the group to be ready in an hour, completing work that normally takes them two or three thanks to the various perks Lucas grants them, as well as his actual, material contributions. When the group is ready, Lucas suggests they all swap stories about what led them to volunteer here.
The five volunteers and the pastor encourage the newcomer to go first, and he deftly weaves a tale that incorporates bits and pieces of the backstory he constructed for himself at his job. He explains that he grew up as the only child of a family in a small town and that he has been volunteering in minor capacities his whole life. He tells his new friends the same fanciful lies he told his coworkers and is a bit shocked when he gets the "Storytelling" skill. After that, his companions share their own stories with him. The pastor goes first, explaining that when he took over the church not one charitable act was occurring here and in only a few short years the pastor has massively changed that. The others all share various stories about how they've needed food before, or known people who needed a meal, and so they wanted to make sure that if someone needed a meal they could get it. The stories stir Lucas's heart, and he feels a pang of sincere admiration for his new friends. That said the pragmatic figure is not someone who is so kind-hearted that he'd lose sight of his larger objectives here.
While his companions share their stories he activates "Rogue", but focuses the skill on his hands. This decision almost completely cloaks his hands, rendering them invisible just long enough for Lucas to pour healing magic into the soup. He pours all of his magical energy into the stuff, exhausting himself but that is a minor inconvenience given one of his handy toys and especially when he receives a notification alerting him that he has gained an "Overcharge" skill; the ability to empower something by putting more into it.
As soon as everyone finishes their stories there is just enough time for the group of volunteers to go and get ready for the first of the arrivals at the kitchen. When Lucas is out of view of everyone he reaches into his inventory and pulls out his nifty arcane potion and downs it. The instant that the golden liquid touches his lips his power begins to flow back into him, suffusing his very soul. Minutes later the lad is welcoming guests and visitors to the church. People excitedly greet him, stunned in two different ways by his appearance.
Firstly there is the fact that Lucas is stunning, aesthetically. No matter one's preferences, no one can honestly deny his wholesome movie star looks, and no one tries to. But here, in the soup kitchen, that's the less important part of his appeal. The more important aspect of his appearance is his newness. Many of the people who appear early are people who come to the church regularly, and they recognize everyone there but him. This gives the young volunteer a chance to make several new admirers, and he navigates these social interactions with aplomb. The figure, at this point, doesn't even rely on his perks, having grown accustomed to his new life and reality.
As the figure encourages the visitors to come and grab food he is extremely pleased when he feels time freeze the first time someone tastes the food he made. This is due to the fact that he is making progress towards his quest to become a "White Mage" the formal name given to the "Healer" class he received a quest to become earlier this week, The quest asks him to heal 100 people, and this marks one of the first times he has made progress towards it. The figure smiles internally as he deactivates the notification that froze time and continues the important work he's been assigned; welcoming guests and working to log in the information they're willing to give about themselves. To achieve this task the eager go-getter has a clipboard and is stationed near the entrance to the part of the church that houses the kitchen where the chefs made the food. Every time someone new eats the food he spelled to be restorative the figure has to deal with paused time, but only the first time someone lifts some of the ensorcelled food to their lips, and each time his excitement at the prospect of obtaining a new class grows more intense.
For the first hour only long-term, regular members of the church's congregation, and their hungry friends, come to the kitchen. The pastor is one of the figures serving them food, while Lucas continues the important work he was asked to do. During this time 22 people make their way through the kitchen, greeting Lucas with excited smiles and happily volunteering the same information they've volunteered before to other individuals tasked with doing Lucas's current work. The young jumper listens to distant conversations even as he writes down the information of various individuals. He smiles internally whenever he overhears someone saying that the food tastes different somehow, better than it has before. Such individuals also sometimes notice how immediately the pain they're in lessens, their old aches and pains fading and in some cases disappearing altogether. They don't know about the magic that is repairing their bodies, the sacred energies that course into them with every faint bite or spoonful of food they eat. Also during this time the chef gains more experience
Lucas doesn't consciously know this but his decision to pour all of his magic into the food has supercharged it. If not for his decision to infuse the food with healing magic again time, coupled with the diffuse nature of the soup would have weakened the healing properties of the magic, but Lucas's choice to suffuse the food with as much magic as he could in short order before the hungry congregants and community members began to arrive has sanctified the food and empowered it's naturally restorative and fortifying properties almost making it something like a potion of sorts.
More people begin to arrive during the second hour of the meal serving period. Some of these people are brand new, and of them a handful gawk at Lucas. These individuals, include homeless youth. teen parents, and college students can't resist the urge to take in the cool glass of water on a hot day that is the charming volunteer. His ability to feign kindness and his almost but not quite eerie sense of their emotional states is enough to allow them to develop crushes, platonic or otherwise, on the figure. And in the space of the hour 40 such individuals come through and eat more of Lucas's cooking, enough to allow him to level up his chef class one more time. He eagerly takes a new class ability, one that allows him to grant food he cooks very minor buffs, though he finds that it's not retroactive.
During this time the pastor gives a very brief address to the crowd of gathered individuals, and introduces Lucas to everyone though Lucas has already been social enough and diligent enough to do that himself. Lucas eagerly thanks everyone for joining them today, and during this time he experiences a very subtle glitch where he says a word but no one notices it. The young adventurer simply ignores the glitch, but not before noting that it's the first one he's experienced in a public situation.
During the last forty five minutes of the meal more people come through, and this group is the oddest and the largest. These folks are the irregulars; people who occasionally need the meals the kitchen provides but who don't love prospect of coming to the kitchen. This group numbers a total 45 of individuals, and by the time they eat the effects of the food are less miraculous, but still solidly strong. At the same time when the next to last person to eat grabs a spoonful of soup and lifts it to her lips she is unknowingly responsible for time freezing and Lucas gaining a new class, The excited hero immediately changes classes and gains a boost to his intelligence and charisma as a result of it as well as just enough experience to boost the power of "Support", making this the first time that a perk of his has been directly strengthened to a quantifiable extent.
"Support" is the most subtle of Lucas's perks other than "The Devil's Own Luck". This perk makes him a more effective leader and teammate, and boosts the efforts of his c;lose-by allies by the equivalent of a "+2", until just now, modifier in TTRPG terms and weakens the efforts of his c;lose-by enemies by "-2", or now "-3". In layman's terms all of the efforts of his allies by a tiny but noticeable margin and weakens the efforts of his enemies by an equal amount. The perk also allows for buffs or debuffs to affect all allies or enemies in close proximity to each other, but Lucas has not had many chances to buff allies or fight enemies. One effect this perk has had is that it allows his friends to cook food that is more delicious, more filling, and healthier than their past efforts. Another effect of it is that it has helped those who eat said food to ingest it more easily and thus allows them to eat it without fears of stomach pains. New spells also appear in the hero's mental grimoire, ones that offer minor buffs or debuffs to friends and enemies, targeting their attributes, but none that consider Lucas a viable target.
The hero delights in his new class and is excited to have the chance to grow as a healer and support provider but the day isn't done. When the last of the crowd leaves Lucas and the rest of his friends stay behind to clean up. Lucas is eager to put his newly enhanced perk to the test, and during these efforts Lucas gains the "Cleaner" class, a class whose initial benefits to him include a boost to his senses and to his skill with anything intended to be used to clean something. During the cleaning, Lucas does not quite gain enough experience to level up, but he knows that he will in time.
Eventually Lucas bids his new friends farewell and makes his way to the gym. He works out somewhat intensely during this time, gaining a series of new skills in the form of swimming and boxing, thanks to his time engaging in a decently stimulating jaunt around the lap pool, followed by his participation in a class that revolves around self-defense. Thanks to "Master of All" and his decision to swap classes to "Fighter" he manages to level up both his "Mage" and his "Fighter" class, opting to give himself a boost to his endurance as a class skill for "Fighter", and a boost to the rate at which he regenerates arcane energy as his class skill for "Mage". It is during this time that Lucas figures out that for his classes to level up he needs to gain class-based experience, but this is the first time that he has seen that he can level a class up without having the class equipped, there just seems to be some relative debuff to the experience gained by the classes he doesn't have equipped. This insight boosts his intelligence, the realization itself serving as a sort of training of the attribute.
By the time Lucas returns to his apartment he is immensely satisfied with the day he has had. The moon is visible in the night's sky when he steps into his apartment he is ready to spend the rest of the day honing his skills and gaining valuable experience. He immediately starts this off by using some of his magic to mess with some of his possessions, positioning and repositioning them as he pleases with telekinesis. For the first time the figure shuts his eyes and practices his telekinesis by feeling alone, an exercise which results in the acquisition of a strange new skill: Extrasensory Perception, or ESP. The figure excitedly practices this skill, even as he levels up his "Spatial Magic" skill and gains an expensive new spell: "Minor Teleport". This particular spell lets him teleport objects he can see and hit with a small magical ray, causing light, small objects he hits to appear in his hand. The mage's skills with this are enough to allow him to hit a kitchen knife with it and teleport it to him without any issues. Lucas's mind fills with possibilities as he takes in the wicked potential of this spell. Still, the spell costs enough that he can only cast it once or twice without waiting for his pool of arcane energy to recover which limits it's usefulness somewhat but that's only a short term problem.
Monday rolls around and when it does Lucas is delighted to find that he is familiar enough with his surroundings that he settles into a routine. The jumper almost immediately throws himself into his work the minute he arrives at the office and he quickly grinds the day away. The only notable event is his realization that Amy is developing a crush on him, something he notices during lunch when he is eating with her and their small cadre of colleagues, when she eagerly asks him about volunteering. On Monday afternoon the lad goes to the gym and works out, taking another dancing class and leveling up the class partway through the workout. He gains a class skill which allows him to more easily persuade anyone who sees him perform a few dances, which he realizes probably won't be very useful in this jump but might mean something later on in his "Chain" as his employer called it several days ago.
The figure spends part of the night leveling his rogue class and gaining skills associated with it thanks in part to his "Rogue" perk and his new spells. He sticks to public places, and stays out just long enough for some shopping outlets and malls to close. He limits his targets to small objects like keys and wallets with his magic, and occasionally targets people with debuffs. He also levels "Observe" enough that he can learn the moods of living things just by using the skill, When his rogue class levels up he snags a new skill which boosts the effectiveness of his actions when he is unseen by the people he is targeting. He also snags a title: "Arcane Sneak", which boosts his magical regeneration when he is unnoticed by people or in the immediate aftermath of him using magic to take something that belongs to someone else.
The next month and a half passes in a blur, and Lucas develops a decently strict schedule he sticks to. On Mondays he trains a specific class, not necessarily rogue but definitely something. On Tuesdays he works out, including taking Zumba, a boxing class, and swimming. On Wednesdays he does meal prep and stays at home honing minor stuff. On Thursday he does some sort of volunteering, and on Fridays he actually relaxes and does something like writing or website design. The weekends are filled with volunteering and city exploration.
During this time his classes, other than chef, dancer, and mage, are slow to level up. He actively practices magic, he is a regular chef, and he turns a passive admiration he once had for dancers into something he is surprisingly passionate about. He also begins to volunteer at the hospital he visited, spending a few hours every Saturday in a small room in the back of the hospital looking through paperwork and doing stuff he didn't anticipate a hospital volunteer doing. Still, he quickly racks up trust and admiration from the few hospital staff members who know of him, thanks to his ability to just not complain, coupled with his stunning effectiveness at what he does.
As he begins to approach the two month mark he is a level 10 chef, level 12 dancer, and a level 6 mage, and a level 3 fighter, rogue, and white mage, as well as a level 4 cleaner. It turns out that each class levels a bit differently, which has inadvertently skewed his leveling but he's become an advanced enough chef that his food can be actively beneficial or detrimental and that there is now a 5% reduction in how long it takes him to cook something. He can also now gain modifiers to his interactions with people who've eaten several dishes he's made, provided they enjoyed them. His dancing is similarly useful, and he is a much better mage now than he once was. The figure can also cast spells and use an ability that prevents something from getting dirty, or magically cleanse objects. Despite all of this he remains a level 1 human, having not gained any experience that would level him as a member of his species; it seems that for him to gain such experience he needs to engage in combat and even when he's sparred with people he doesn't fight them to unconsciousness.
He leaves his apartment on the last Monday in October with a smile on his face, ready to begin a new work week.

🔗Enhanced AR-15 Charging Handle from Armaspec

https://preview.redd.it/pm0adgbp3d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a53027e033e0caad915b996eca0240a439474ea8
As an avid AR-15 enthusiast, I recently had the chance to try out the Armaspec Victory Charging Handle in Red. This charging handle stands out from the rest with its ambidextrous design that allows for easy operation and use from both hands. The enlarged handle latches make it a convenient and comfortable choice, and the integrated gas vents center force charging ensure optimal functionality.
One of the key highlights of this charging handle is its seamless integration and compatibility with various rifles. I found it to be a smooth and easy-to-install part that did not require any additional modifications to fit my AR-15. The quality of the product is top-notch, as evidenced by the solid construction and well-engineered components. The centerforce charging system in particular is a game-changer, making it easier to cycle through rounds and providing a more efficient shooting experience.
However, there were a few drawbacks to this charging handle that I couldn't overlook. The oversized handles may protrude a bit too much for some users, causing discomfort when the rifle is worn or carried for extended periods. Additionally, the enlarged latches may have a slightly looser fit compared to other charging handles, which could cause some users to feel a lack of secureness when handling the rifle.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Armaspec Victory Charging Handle Red for anyone looking for an affordable yet high-quality charging handle option for their AR-15. Its smooth operation and easy handling make it a fantastic choice, even if you're not left-handed. The enlarged latches and gas vents further enhance its functionality and durability, making it a reliable and worthwhile investment for any shooter. Despite the minor drawbacks, I believe this charging handle is well worth the money and a great addition to an AR-15 build.

🔗Kydex IWB Holster for 1911 5" Government 45ACP with Rail Only Red Dot Optic Cut

https://preview.redd.it/zjpddlwp3d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c136f0d812c35c918d25b093e68cc87ed479d05c
As someone who's been carrying a personal firearm for safety purposes, I'm always on the lookout for high-quality holsters that provide both comfort and security. This particular IWB Holster for 1911 5" Government 45ACP with Rail Only Red Dot Optic Cut caught my eye due to the customization options it provides. I decided to give it a whirl, and after using it for a week or so, I've formed a pretty solid opinion.
First off, the holster fits the gun perfectly and feels like it's a custom-made piece for my handgun. The adjustable retention feature is a game-changer, allowing me to fine-tune the tension that the holster applies to my firearm. The adjustable ride and cant settings make for a truly versatile carrying solution—a definite plus in my book.
One of the features I adore the most is the adjustable clip. Having eight different positions to choose from means I can place the holster anywhere on my belt, depending on the situation. This flexibility is crucial for someone who aims to stay concealed most of the time. The belt clip is quite secure, making cleaning draws a breeze.
However, there were a couple of small issues I ran into with this holster. The protective sweat guard is a noble addition, but it can sometimes block the sight of my firearm, which can be a bit annoying during quick checks. My only other gripe is the fact that the belt clip can protrude a bit too much, catching on things and, at times, making the holster itself hard to conceal.
All in all, based on my experience with this IWB Holster for 1911 5" Government 45ACP with Rail Only Red Dot Optic Cut, I found that it provides a comfortable, secure way to carry my firearm while taking advantage of the adjustability features it boasts. It's not without flaws, but it gets the job done for the most part.

One of the best features of this handle is its sleek design. The red dot sight fits perfectly, making it incredibly comfortable to use. The handle is also lightweight, which makes it easy to maneuver during gameplay. However, one downside I noticed is that the handle can be a bit slippery at times, especially when you're in the heat of the moment.
Overall, the Laylax Nitro. Vo Carrying Handle Long - Plaza Japan is a fantastic investment for any airsoft enthusiast. Its high-quality build and ergonomic design make it a must-have accessory for your replica. Just be sure to give it a good grip to prevent any accidental slips.

Whether you need to replace a broken handle or simply want to customize your systainers, this Carmine Red color is a perfect addition to your organization system.
One great feature is how easy it is to pop off the SYS3 handle by using a lever under the handle and pressing down. I recently integrated the ICOM MB-123 handle into my daily routine while using an ICOM radio. The design of the handle is sleek and unobtrusive, which was a pleasant surprise for such an essential accessory. It has proven to be very practical when I need to move the radio around or transport it to remote locations.
However, one minor issue I encountered was the difficulty in securing the rubber feet onto the transceiver. The installation process was a bit tricky, but once I figured out the best way to get them in place, it wasn't much of a concern.
Overall, the ICOM MB-123 handle provides a convenient and stylish solution to carrying and transporting the radio. It's a worthwhile addition to any ICOM radio enthusiast's collection.

🔗Stylish Kayak Carry Handles for All-Purpose Use

https://preview.redd.it/vcatz98r3d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83f10e9dd470159ceb039f3c73e208eaeb5c87c5
Recently, I had the opportunity to use Wollcocer's Kayak Carry Handles as a replacement for my kayak's old handles. After struggling with slippery handles and struggling to lug my kayak onto my car, I was excited to see if these rubber handles could solve my problems.
Upon installation, I found the handles to be very easy to mount, as the screws fit perfectly into my kayak's holes. The handles themselves were surprisingly ergonomic, featuring a well-designed contour grip that prevented them from slipping while I maneuvered my kayak.
Despite their tough appearances, these handles turned out to be quite soft and flexible, which I appreciated during long kayaking trips. The rubber material also felt durable and long-lasting, something that had been lacking in my previous handles.
On the downside, I did notice that the screws didn't come with washers, which would have added a bit of extra polish to the final result. However, overall, I was very pleased with my purchase and am eager to put these new kayak handles to the test during my next kayaking adventure!

🔗Fashionable Origami-Inspired Carry Handle for Crossbody Bags

https://preview.redd.it/njs2pslr3d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1db2891888450de2aa065933d0262fec52fa0726
I recently got my hands on the Miyako Handle, a unique cross-body bag that stands out thanks to its innovative Origami fabric folding technique. I've used it for quite some time now, and let me tell you, it's a real game-changer in the world of fashionable yet practical bags.
The first thing that caught my attention was its sleek, elegant design. The combination of vibrant red dots with the elegant handle makes it a real showstopper. But it's not just about looks, this bag is incredibly versatile and functional.
The Miyako Handle is a bit of a chameleon - it can transform from a stylish accessory into a practical carry solution seamlessly. It's designed with a single strap, which I initially thought would be a downside, but it's actually quite comfortable and convenient, especially when I'm on the go.
However, one thing I did notice was that the strap could be a bit longer for my taste. While it works perfectly for a cross-body position, I found myself wishing for a bit more adjustability when it came to the length.
Overall, I've been pretty impressed with the Miyako Handle. Its unique design and functionality make it a standout product that has certainly enhanced my everyday look. Despite the minor strap issue, I'd definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a blend of style and practicality in their bag collection.

🔗SKB iSeries Small Red Dot Handle for Maximum Performance and Comfort

https://preview.redd.it/4yuvh9zr3d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8809eee914fa2634f8392c5679ad44e5a1886f3

In my daily life, I've been using the SKB iSeries Small Replacement Handle in red overmold. The first thing that stood out to me is the comfort it offers. The cushioned overmolded handle provides a secure and comfortable grip, making it perfect for carrying my iSeries case around.
The color-coded handle also adds an extra touch of convenience. With multiple cases in different colors, it can be difficult to keep track of which one I'm carrying. The red dot handle helps me quickly identify my case, saving me time and frustration.
However, I noticed that the installation process was a bit tricky. It required some patience and precision to ensure the handle was securely attached to the case. If it were a bit easier to install, it would be even more enjoyable to use.
Overall, the SKB iSeries Small Replacement Handle in red overmold is a durable and comfortable accessory for my iSeries case. It's easy to identify my case when I'm on the go, and the cushioned handle provides a secure grip. The only downside is the installation process, but once it's in place, the benefits outweigh the hassle.

🔗Carrying Handle for Yaesu FT-450D Transceivers

https://preview.redd.it/pp1awnas3d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3aad3763cbe3a3bcafba2f61bed70fa6d0b41d84

I recently added the Stahlin Rech109506 Encl Carry Handle to my collection of electrical products, and let me tell you, it's made a real difference in my daily life. You know how frustrating it can be, lugging around cumbersome enclosures without a proper handle? This rech109506 handle has been a game-changer.
The first thing I noticed was the smooth finish. No more rough edges, just a seamless grip that's comfortable and secure. It's like having a red dot sight on your carry handle, making it so much easier to spot and grab when you're in a hurry.
Of course, no product is perfect. Sometimes, the handle can be a little slippery when my hands are moist. But overall, the Stahlin Enclosure Carry Handle has been a reliable addition to my toolkit. And hey, in the world of electrical products, that's saying something!

🔗Strike Extended Latch Charging Handle for AR15/AR10 Rifles

The Strike Industries ARCH-EL Charging Handle is an upgrade from the standard one that comes with your rifle. This hard-anodized charging handle not only looks good but works even better. The larger latch surface makes it more versatile, especially in challenging conditions, and the high-polished finish provides a smooth charging experience.
Built to last, it's a great option if you're planning to invest in a high-quality, durable charging handle. It's worth mentioning, the charging handle might smell a bit rough initially after installation, you just need to give it a little break-in time and a cleaning for a smooth experience.
The finish may also come off on the top and one side after minimal use, but overall, it's a great, affordable product that gets the job done.

🔗Mil Spec AR-15 Carry Handle Assembly

https://preview.redd.it/9tezcagt3d1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5dfa8b30e33a71bdda7845232795078c9fb6ebbf
I recently got my hands on the LBE Unlimited ARCHAS Mlspc, a Mil Spec carry handle assembly designed for the AR-15. This bad boy is made right here in the USA, which is awesome. When I took it out of the box, the assembly was pretty straightforward, and it fit my AR-15 like a glove. The build quality is sturdy, and it definitely feels like something that would last.
One feature I loved was the inclusion of an American flag etched into the handle. It's a great patriotic touch. As for any downsides, the thumb screws and securing plate don't quite match the rest of the assembly in terms of color. However, I wouldn't say this is a deal-breaker.
Overall, I'm quite pleased with this LBE Unlimited ARCHAS Mlspc. It's a solid product that's made with pride and quality in mind. But don't forget to factor in the slightly higher price tag, as it might not be the most budget-friendly option out there.

2024.05.19 12:28 Excellent_Farmer_848 What extra preparations do DINKies need to do to plan for retirement and old age?

My husband and I are in our early 30s. Our combined income is ~240k a year. We have a 5 room HDB and don't intend to have kids or move into a condo, and our parents' retirements are settled.
We're assuming that we'll need to settle everything in the future ourselves and rely on hired help when we're older. Also we are probably overspending on insurance that looks after us being unable to work. We figured that since no one will take care of us we will need to do that ourselves. We have:

2024.05.19 12:23 InkyPaws Things have, rather suddenly, gone Wrong

This might be long. And muddled. I feel safer posting here than in twox.
I'm nearly 40, for reference. So is he.
My partner and I have been together for three years. My longest relationship ever. It's not conventional, we live 40minutes by road and on public transport it's 2 buses and an hour and a half. I live with my mother - she's diabetic and it's been difficult to control. I have among other things PTSD and trauma that means I have never been able to work, deal with people or generally adult properly. I've had therapy and things. I've also got mobility issues that are getting worse despite my best efforts and it may not be long before I'm unable to walk any real distance.
Half of the relationship he ended up out of work. He's only been back in work a couple of months. I didn't mind, I'd help him out with money for his bills etc. He hates asking for help with a passion. There are control issues in his family where money will be held over you if it's loaned.
Yesterday he threw a massive unexpected curve ball. He is doubting how long we can exist like this. He's been neglecting me the last few weeks (so he thinks, he's been helping his friends with various things a lot) and between that and me having some flare-ups and not being up to making the bus trips, (because he hasn't got the money for fuel, and won't let me pay for it..) we've not seen each other for a few weeks. I don't mind that he's helping his friends out. Some of them have had horrible experiences with men and he's safe and they can trust him. He says I deserve better. That he's just been leeching for 18months. That he's made me upset more than he should have. (He brought up a time from the first six months we were seeing each other!) That he's too wrapped up in his own stuff and has his head up his arse. I've told him to stop focusing on what he thinks he's done wrong and...stop doing it. Stop beating himself up over things that I have no issue with. He's good at assuming worst case scenario before something has even happened/he's tried. He thinks he's failed at doing all the things he wanted to do better at. Yes he procrastinates horrifically sometimes and I need to start prodding him endlessly to get him to do the thing but I'm just as bad he just doesn't see it.
We've had moments like this before where he's struggled and had a bit of a spiral but never to the point where he's saying "I love you, I don't want to lose you, I don't want to break your heart BUT"
I asked if moving in together was where he wanted to take it. We both know logistically it's difficult. Between us we have five cats and a dog. Might be able to make it three cats and the dog. I don't have family here, they're all 150miles south and while I miss my real home and them, they're all getting older and a house there now costs £300k and this house (my mums) would not sell for anything like enough. He wouldn't want to leave his friends or his mum, most of his extended family are 100 miles away. His current house isn't suitable, and he hates it (tiny open plan over two floors, no garden.) It's ok for an overnight visit but there's no privacy or space there. There are no and will be no children involved. Trying to get onto housing lists will be difficult as he is adequately housed as far as his association is concerned and my area will likely see me as having no legitimate reason for needing housing.
(My dog is...she's a pest. She doesn't understand the concept of two humans in the bed, go away, and if I'm away from home longer than two nights she needs to go to kennels or she misbehaves. Mum gives in to her and dog has learnt how to hit all of mums buttons. I have told my mum repeatedly she needs to not do x/y/z.)
I haven't heard from him since we spoke yesterday.
Ok. I think I'm done. I've got an invite to a birthday picnic this time next week. Hopefully I have some idea about this bit of my life by then..

Record temperatures, record migration, record emissions, record displacement, record PFAS……start building an ark.
Last Week in Collapse: May 12-18, 2024
This is Last Week in Collapse, a weekly newsletter compiling some of the most important, timely, useful, soul-crushing, ironic, stunning, exhausting, or otherwise must-see/can’t-look-away moments in Collapse.
This is the 125th newsletter! You can find the May 5-11 edition here if you missed it last week. You can also receive these posts (with images) every Sunday in your email inbox with Substack.
——————————
Flash flooding in northern Afghanistan killed 300+ people and destroyed 1,000+ homes. Hundreds of thousands of others have been affected. Last month, similar floods in the region killed 70+. Four died in Texas storms last week as well.
Venezuela is suffering from record wildfires, which so far this year have burned about 5M acres—almost the size of Sardinia. Some experts think indigenous people started the blaze as an attempt at forest clearance, which quickly got out of hand. “Institutional failures” compounded the disaster when the ailing government responded with an inadequate number of poorly equipped firefighters. Another study from last week examined the impact of wildfires on soil health.
Flooding and “cold lava” killed 50+ in Indonesia, injuring dozens and displacing several thousand. Cold lava is a mixture of water and rocks tumbling down the side of a volcano. Meanwhile, an actual volcano erupted in Indonesia, sending smoke & ash 5000m high; further eruptions are possible soon.
The Swiss Re Institute published a 37-page report last week about natural disasters in 2023—and how much damage, in USD, they caused. The largest catastrophe was the February 7.8 earthquake in Türkiye & Syria, which killed 59,000+ people and caused $163B+ in damage. The report is full of interesting graphics & data about natural disasters.
“Last year, economic losses from natural catastrophes reached USD 280 billion, meaning that 62% of the global losses were uninsured….the insured losses surpassed USD 100 billion for the fourth consecutive year….annual insured losses will grow by 5–7% over the long term…today’s insured losses could double in 10 years….There were 142 insured-loss inducing catastrophes in 2023, a new record. Most were of medium severity, which we define as events resulting in losses of USD 1–5 billion….Over the last 30 years, we estimate that natural catastrophe insured losses have grown by 3 percentage points more annually than the global economy (in inflation adjusted terms)...”
Flooding and heat waves are impacting Brazil’s oranges, responsible for about 70% of the world’s supply. One food analysts declared that the “era of cheap food is over”—in the UK, at least. That may be one reason why UK residents took record food bank packages last year. Madagascar is struggling to adapt to a future with far less rainfall.
France is growing more concerned about a dam on Lake Geneva, controlled exclusively by Switzerland. The Rhône River, which begins in Switzerland and flows south through France, is shrinking in summers as climate change melts Switzerland’s remaining glaciers.
The Tonlé San River has been dammed in Vietnam, lowering the level in Cambodia and sometimes drying the river downstream entirely. Meanwhile, China’s lychee harvest is getting blasted by rain, impacting the world’s largest source of lychee. And, once again, Saudi Arabia is suffering flooding in its inland regions. 7 dead in historic flooding in Iran.
The eminent climate scientist James Hansen posted that, since “human-made aerosols and their cooling effect are in decline,” the cooling effect of La Niña will be counterbalanced by these rising temperatures. He also identifies a “large anomaly of increased absorbed solar radiation at midlatitudes in the Northern Hemisphere” responsible for rising temperatures there. CO2 levels are rising faster today than they have at any point in the previous 50,000 years…and a study of millennia-old trees determined last summer was the hottest worldwide in 2,000+ years…
Record nighttime May temperatures were tied in the Philippines and Vietnam. A couple Indonesian cities broke records for May temperatures. And a number of southern African states saw more records drop. And Toronto saw a record tied for the number of days reaching 14 °C (57 °F). A heat wave has returned to Bangladesh. Flooding in Cali (pop: 2.9M), Colombia.
The University of Washington was ordered to stop a geoengineering project that scientists sere conducting from the deck of a decommissioned aircraft carrier. The experiment ejected aerosolized saltwater in an attempt to reflect solar radiation. A comparative study in Nature Communications of a number of carbon pricing found that, yes, carbon pricing does work to reduce the total CO2 emitted.
It’s that time of the year again. Wildfires in Canada grow, some of which are moving towards the tar sands—forcing thousands to evacuate. 39 of the total nation’s blazes are “out of control,” resulting in air quality alerts in the United States. Meanwhile, across the Caribbean, water shortages have become the new normal, and residents (and tourists) are finding their old consumption habits hard to change. St. Lucia has declared a water emergency. In Myanmar, water shortages worsen, particularly as related to the spiraling conflict.
At least ⅛ of Europeans live in a place at risk of extreme flooding—so says a 175-page report from the European Environment Agency posted on Wednesday. The number of people living in flood-risk coastal areas in the EU & UK is expected to jump 24% by 2050. The graphics-packed report also considers how flooding will impact healthcare facilities, mental health, wastewater treatment plants, the spread of disease, cyanobacteria, permafrost thaw, and much else.
“Europe has seen devastating floods following record rainfall, droughts of magnitudes not experienced in hundreds of years, continuing sea level rise, and increasing lake and sea temperatures….permanent water stress already affects 30% of people in southern Europe….since 2018, more than half of Europe has been impacted by extreme drought conditions….Climate change is expected to increase mercury bioaccumulation in the marine food chain due to rising ocean temperatures, ocean acidification and permafrost thawing….Depression, anxiety and PTSD may persist for years after a flooding event….Under the changing climate, northern Europe is becoming wetter in general, but drier in summer. Southern Europe is becoming drier, especially in winter. For central-eastern and western Europe, the trend is less clear…” -selections from the report
Milan suffered flooding last week, the worst May flooding in 170 years. Early spring in the UK has disrupted migratory bird species and their usual patterns.
A 74-page working paper which is not yet peer-reviewed claims that earlier estimates for how much GDP would be impacted by another 1 °C temperature rise is way less than it would be in actuality. The paper claims the real cost (in USD) is about 6x greater. They claim “global temperature has much more pronounced impacts on economic activity than local temperature” and that extreme weather is mostly behind the projected decline in productivity.
——————————
Epidemiologists are worried about how climate change in Africa may extend the life of disease-bearers like ticks and mosquitoes. Other epidemiologists are worried about how cattle may become a permanent reservoir for H5N1. Growing traced of bird flu have been found in wastewater testing in the U.S., but investigators think it may be runoff from infected dairy farms.
Obesity, high blood sugar, and high blood pressure rates today globally are 50% higher than in 2000—though researchers claim that air pollution still poses a larger threat. Of a study participants in Hawai’i, 75% had respiratory issues, probably from the Maui wildfires last year.
The 2024 World Migration Report is out, and its 384 pages are not as apocalyptic as one might think. However, internally displaced people are at their all-time highest. India, Mexico, Russia, China, and Syria lead the world in emigrants; another document contains the definitions for who exactly constitutes a migrant. Unfortunately much of the data relied upon ends in 2022. Data from this year, not included in the above report, indicates a 40% jump in traffic through the Darien Gap compared to the same time period in 2023.
“The last two years saw major migration and displacement events that have caused great hardship and trauma, as well as loss of life….There have also been large-scale displacements triggered by climate- and weather-related disasters in many parts of the world in 2022 and 2023, including in Pakistan, the Philippines, China, India, Bangladesh, Brazil and Colombia….disinformation tactics are increasingly being used by nefarious actors with negative impacts on public, political and social media discourse on migration….Forced displacement is the highest on record in the modern era…overconsumption and overproduction linked to unsustainable economic growth, resource depletion and biodiversity collapse, as well as ongoing climate change (including global heating) are continuing to grip the world….the risk of further conflict has not been higher in decades, as military spending reached a new record high of USD 2,240 billion in 2022…” -excerpts from the introduction
Another report, focusing on internal displacement, came out last week; its 69 pages show a cross-section of about 47M people displaced by natural disasters (56%) or armed conflict (44%). Most of the disasters were storms & flooding, and most of the conflicts were civil wars of some form. This report also provides detailed region-by-region analyses—with sub-Saharan Africa accounting for 46% of global IDPs.
“Conflict and violence triggered 13.5 million movements, the highest figure for the past 15 years….Disasters and conflict are presented as different triggers, but their impacts can overlap, often leading to repeated and/ or protracted displacement….Drought triggered 331,000 displacements in Somalia….Floods triggered 550,000 displacements in Ethiopia….Conflict and violence triggered 3.8 million displacements in DRC in 2023, a slight fall from the record four million in 2022, but still the second-highest figure globally after Sudan….nearly two-thirds of the internal displacements recorded in 2023 originated from Khartoum state. More than 39 per cent of the state's inhabitants were forced to flee, leaving entire neighbourhoods empty….Criminal and communal violence triggered nearly three-quarters of Nigeria's 291,000 conflict displacements….” -selections from the spotlight on sub-Saharan Africa
Experts are concerned about the mental health impacts that climate change has on our minds. Hotter temperatures reportedly increase depression & aggression. Wildfires and storms can cause PTSD. Workers feel stress and desperation as their usual industries are impacted. And air pollution influences ordinary brain processes in many ways.
Some analysts believe “Peak China” may be over, signaling a period of economic tapering-off, as well as a growing militancy. Increasing U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods are continuing to separate the two economies. The Netherlands finally formed a provisional government, though its proposed immigration & farming policies have set it at odds with the EU.
The Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank, released a 46-page report on potential climate risks to the banking system’s resilience. As far as I understood, most of the risk lies in extreme weather events and the risk to insurance agencies.
Part of southeast England experienced an outbreak of Cryptosporidium, a diarrhea & vomiting illness, highly contagious, which can last weeks. At least 22 cases have been reported. Meanwhile, the CDC is issuing warnings about the more dangerous strain of monkeypox circulating in the DRC, although cases are currently limited to Africa.
North Carolina’s Senate voted to ban mask-wearing last week, under the reasoning that it would make police identification of protestors difficult. An fMRI study found lasting neurological changes in COVID survivors; they “had significantly higher cognitive complaints of mental fatigue and cognitive failure….even two years after recovering.” Experts say a summer rise in COVID cases is coming to the United States.
A study on The Canadian/American Great Lakes found that PFAS levels are increasing in the 3 largest lakes (Superior, Huron, and Michigan), while decreasing in the other two (Erie, Ontario). The study also found that precipitation is the primary means by which the Lakes are accumulating PFAS, since the chemicals are small & stable enough to move through the water cycle. Meanwhile, in England’s Lake District, a telecom failure resulted in raw sewage being pumped into England’s largest and most famous lake, Windermere, on-and-off for 10 hours; and a major British water CEO took a $4M USD pay package last year. And a look into the Chicago River’s health found that microplastics & trash are endangering health & biodiversity.
——————————
An assassination attempt by a lone wolf on Slovakia’s PM left him in critical condition, but likely to survive. 11 civilians were slain by cartel fighters in a few battles in Mexico. Violence continues to spiral out of control in Goma, DRC.
In Haiti, everything worsens indefinitely. Guns have reportedly entered from Florida, a phenomenon which officials call an “iron river.” Police have been put on the defensive against the growing might of the gang warlords.
A brawl broke out in Taiwan’s parliament. An Iranian plot was allegedly foiled to smuggle weapons into Jordan to destabilize the pro-U.S. regime.
Dozens more died in Sudan from escalating violence around Darfur. People are warning about “a disaster on top of a disaster” and the possibility of Sudan splitting apart. Others have called it “hell on earth” as 1,000+ refugees cross the Chad border every day. Disease and malnutrition are growing, while famine encroaches upon 9M helpless victims of the conflict—but the world’s attention is elsewhere.
The U.S. Army Engineers completed constructing the pier in Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid. Some 600,000 Gazans have been displaced from Rafah already, and fighting has escalated against Hamas militants in northern Gaza.
Taliban forces skirmished with Pakistani soldiers for about 90 minutes last week. Taliban attacks in Pakistan, and counterattacks have resulted in a kind of ambient disruption for the rocky border zone.
Violent protests—and counteroperationsare continuing in New Caledonia (pop: 270,000), a Pacific island part of overseas France. The riots, which have killed 6 people so far, began after metropolitan France proposed a plan to expand voting rights beyond indigenous residents. A state of emergency has been declared amid worries about a spiral of violence taking hold.
As the Sahel dries out, experts are concerned about the links to rising terrorism in the region. The Sahel accounts for over 40% of global terrorism deaths—according to the analysts’ understanding of “terrorism.” Mali in particular has reportedly become home to 41 new, different non-state armed groups (NSAGs) since 2007. A contested election in Chad resulted in the consolidation of the interim leader’s power.
“If governments are continually unable to solve regional issues, the people will be at the whim of any terror group that has a basic organization. It serves these groups’ interests to promote insecurity where they can and create security where they want. A “hearts and minds” campaign in the Sahel could lead to long-term and locally supported insurgencies in a land that is currently rife with civil strife.” -from the article
Some wargamers concluded that a Trump victory in 2020 would spell the end of NATO, or at least the end of its utility. Vladimir Putin replaced his minister of defense with a top economic advisor, just before going to Beijing to reaffirm their friendship with “no limits.” Some say Putin is planning on a forever war. Some say NATO is gearing up for one, too.
Russia made several gains in the suburbs of Kharkiv, seizing several settlements which some analysts doubt they will hold. Putin claims they aren’t really trying to take Kharkiv anyway… Russia also made small progress in the Donbas—although they suffered their largest one-day casualties since the start of the war. The U.S. allocated another $2B to hasten the delivery of weapons to the front lines. The next weeks will be crucial on the front. Switzerland has invited 160+ nations to send delegates to a peace summit intended to design a path to making peace in this War.

Select comments/threads from the subreddit last week suggest:
-Brazil’s flooding was really, really bad, judging from this post and its accompanying images. Across just one of Brazil’s 26 states, 600,000+ people have been made homeless, 100+ have died, and the storm season isn’t over yet. Some of the flooding isn’t expected to subside for another month.
-How specifically might climate change make humanity extinct? This thread crowdsources a number of plausible ways, from ordinary famines to nuclear war and even a massive deoxygenation process. I tend to think it will be a consequence of an eventual nuclear exchange, followed by extended famine and disease.

2024.05.19 12:20 AfternoonOne13 My boyfriend (26M) discussed our fight with his parents, now they think I (28F) am not good for him.

This is my first post here. My partner and I have been together a little over a year. We’re both in the military, but he has been deployed since January and will come back in July. A week ago he was allowed to come back for a week as a holiday leave.
We were planning on moving in together after he got back from his deployment, but due to my roommate moving out and me not being able to afford the rent on my own we agreed that I should look for an apartment for the both of us and he would move in with me after his deployment. In February I found an apartment to which he also agreed after seeing it on video, and I moved in by myself in April. I was able to take some furniture from the old apartment, but we still needed some essentials like a couch, chairs and dining table. We agreed on these items online and through video call and already ordered them since I would already be living at the apartment.
Our big fight happened two weeks before his return over the dining table. For context, we live on the second floor and there is no elevator in the building. When the table arrived the delivery company refused to carry it upstairs (for insurance reasons apparently) and it was too heavy to carry it by myself. Luckily I got help from my neighbors, but it was still a hard task as the table is made out of massive wood. I then set up the table by myself and immediately video called my partner to show him the table. After I showed him the table from all angles he declared he didn’t like it and I should pack it back up and send it back. Barely recovered from all the heavy lifting we just did I told him I wasn’t keen on going through that again, and suggested we wait until he got back for his holiday so that he could see the table for himself and then send it back together if he still wanted to do so. The return policy was 30 working days and he would be back way before that. He said he didn’t want to wait so he could immediately order a new table so that it would arrive in time before he got back for his holiday, that way the apartment would be completely “ready” for his arrival. The discussion got out of hand after that, I reminded him that I had taken care of everything in the apartment so far and told him I didn’t appreciate his attitude, that I felt like he was taking the easy way out being away and coming back to an apartment that was completely ready without having to lift the finger. He said I was being difficult and didn’t think that he was asking a lot, he said if the roles were reversed, he would take care of everything because that’s what partners are supposed to do. We discussed some more back-and-forth, but the main points were that I didn’t feel appreciated for all the work I had done for the apartment so far and he didn’t feel the need to be appreciative as he saw this as normal within a relationship.
The next day, he talked to his parents and reported back to me what they said, I never asked for this information. His mom apparently completely agrees with him, she thinks I’m being unreasonable and is of the opinion that if you’re in a relationship, you do everything for each other without questioning it. His dad said that he didn’t want to see him make the same mistake that he made with his ex by staying in a relationship that’s not good for him. They also said some things about me personally, like how it’s noticeable that I grew up an only child and feel like I need to have everything my way. This hurt me a lot as I thought I had a good relationship with his parents. I went on holiday with them multiple times and never noticed any tensions. The remark about me being an only child is especially painful as they know my brother passed away when I was a child. He said he thinks his parents are wrong about the part of me being not good for him, but agrees with everything else they said. Honestly, at that point I wondered whether I was making a mistake with moving in together, but I decided it would be best to wait until he got back for his holiday and discuss everything face-to-face.
His mom came over a week later to bring all his clothes and stuff that he still had at their place, his aunt was there as well. I could feel a cold vibe from his mom, but his aunt was being very friendly and she even brought me a small housewarming gift. When they were getting ready to leave, his aunt already went to sit in the car while his mom hovered by the doorway. She then said that she still likes me and feels bad about the whole situation, she said it was all a big misunderstanding and said she wanted to talk it out soon.
Last week, I picked up my partner from the base for his leave. When we arrived at the apartment he was in awe of it. We talked it out and he told me that he regrets discussing our fight with his parents, he said he wanted to make a point and he admitted exaggerating the story to make me look bad. He said that he will do everything in his power to restore my relationship with his parents, as their approval of me is extremely important to him. On Monday we said our goodbyes again for the last phase of his deployment, but I can’t help lying awake at night ruminating over everything that happened the last few weeks. I’m scared this ordeal has completely spoiled the relationship with my inlaws, but I also feel like my trust has been broken. I’ve had multiple relationships, but I’ve never seen myself grow old with someone before I met him. I’ve never had a child wish or wanted to marry, until I met him. I sincerely love him and want to build a future with him, I do believe he feels the same as he has always said he dates to marry and we even already discussed a timeline of getting married and starting a family.
I’m scared that my partner will one day feel like he has to choose between me and his family, and that’s a choice I will not put him through. Am I being unreasonable? Has anyone ever been in a similar situation? I just need some perspective. His mom also still hasn’t reached out to talk about what happened, even though she said she wanted to. Should I be the one reaching out to her? I feel like an apology is due from her side, therefore I don’t think I should be the one to reach out.
TL;DR! - He discussed our fight with his parents, they said some not so nice things about me. I’m having mixed feelings about my relationship now.

2024.05.19 11:47 Due_Leg_269 What are signs of a heart attack?

I know Reddit isn’t the doctor, but can anyone help Me? First off I’m gonna say I was diagnosed with anxiety about 2 months ago. I’m a 21 year old female who is mainly healthy for the most part. Of course I eat junk sometimes and drink soda as anyone else does, but I try to keep my health up to date, being a hypochondriac that is… anyway For the past couple days I’ve been feeling lightheaded, dizzy, nauseous, and my left arm suddenly gets very weak and restless only during night time… i also have other symptoms such as a weird feeling in my head kinda like chills shooting through my head. I don’t have pain in my middle chest which is confusing me as to what it may be… Tonight was terrible, i contemplated calling the ambulance but without having insurance I just can’t afford it right now. What I’m trying to say is, has anyone around my age felt this way before ? Could it be symptoms of my Anxiety or should I be worried about heart problems? It usually subsides within a few hours so I can eventually fall asleep… but the next day it happens all over again. I have an appointment coming up soon to get checked , but I just need some assurance or just someone that knows what I am going through. It is very scary. The thought of just randomly having a heart attack is the worst, I’d be all alone and probably die before someone could help me. I’ve learned that heart problems don’t spare anyone no matter the age.

2024.05.19 11:39 jaffacakerhubarb How's this budget AM5 ECC build look?

Hi all! I've been putting together a build for a family member to replace their ageing Dell OptiPlex 390 prebuild desktop PC.
It still works broadly fine with their usage, but it's an old system with an Intel i5-2400 3.1GHz, which is a Sandy Bridge CPU from around 2011. It's old enough that it maxes out at Windows 10, among other things, so it's time to get something current and reliable that should be good for another 5+ years at least.
This is most definitely not for gaming — purely a productivity desktop for web browsing, email and video consumption. It might be used for cutting some home video footage once in a blue moon, but that will be so rare that I think going with the integrated GPU on the CPU should be more than enough. If anyone has any thoughts on that front please do say.
I thought for quite a while about AM4 vs AM5, but in the end decided going with the more modern socket in AM5 was the way to go as, should future upgrades ever be needed, this would futureproof the build more than an older socket.
ECC is a big plus for this build, which is what has steered me to the non-G series AMD APUs, which although a bit beefier with their integrated graphics drop ECC support. I know ECC is a bit of a contested topic but as I'm building this for a non-techie user, I think a little extra stability is worth sacrificing some GPU performance. It also means that if extra graphics power is needed, I can just slot a dedicated graphics card at some future point into the build without sacrificing CPU performance with a slightly better iGPU.
I've left RAM off here as PCPartPicker doesn't like ECC RAM, which I'll be getting. Probably 32GB (2x16GB).
Is there anything I've forgotten that I need to include, like fans, etc? Anything I should change? This is my first PC build from scratch so I won't be offended if you point out that I've done something utterly dumb. Thank you!
(Budget is roughly £700, though I'm flexible here if something should be changed/added that's worthwhile. I'm in the UK.)

🔗Beige Cargo Joggers - H&M

https://preview.redd.it/1846phkupc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=54d47ba7ef38ba4f2270f88d70343941ce228fcd
I recently tried a pair of beige cargo joggers from H&M, and I have to say, they've quickly become one of my go-to items for casual outfits. The moment I put them on, I noticed how comfortable they are, thanks to the soft cotton fabric and adjustable drawstring waistband. The tapered legs and covered elastic at the hems give them a polished look that's perfect for both lounging around the house or dressing up for a night out.
One feature that really stands out is the variety of pockets - they've got diagonal side pockets, back pockets with concealed snap fasteners, and even leg pockets with flaps. This might not seem like a big deal, but as someone who's always misplacing their phone or keys, having so many pocket options has made my life so much easier!
However, there are a couple of downsides worth mentioning. Firstly, I found that the sizing can be a bit tricky. I'm usually a small but needed to go up to a medium to get the right leg length. Secondly, while the material is comfortable, it does seem to attract dust and dirt more easily than other fabrics. This means I have to wash them more frequently than I would like.
Overall, these beige cargo joggers from H&M are definitely worth considering if you're looking for a stylish and comfortable pair of pants to add to your wardrobe. Just make sure to pay attention to the sizing and be prepared for some extra laundry!

🔗Heavyweight Fleece Cargo Sweatpants for Men: Stylish and Comfortable

https://preview.redd.it/isndoayupc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84e9ba818e2d28bed4f66d049b2ace6e74472d80
I recently picked up a pair of these Pro Club Men's Heavyweight Fleece Cargo Sweatpants in heather gray, and let me tell you, they've quickly become my go-to comfies for lounging around the house. The fleece is ultra-soft and surprisingly warm, making them perfect for those chilly winter days. I appreciated the relaxed fit, which didn't feel too tight or constricting, but still gave me enough room to move freely.
One of the highlights of these sweatpants is definitely the multiple cargo pockets and added flaptop security. They've allowed me to stash away my phone, wallet, keys, and other necessities without fumbling around in my pockets or bag. Plus, the adjustable elastic drawstring on both the waist and pant cuff ensures a customizable and comfortable fit.
However, it's worth noting that these sweatpants run a bit larger than I expected. If you prefer a more fitted look, I'd recommend sizing down. Additionally, some users may find the heavy fabric to be a bit too warm during warmer months. Despite these minor drawbacks, I'm thoroughly enjoying my new pair of Pro Club sweatpants, and would recommend them to anyone seeking comfort and style.

🔗Garage Women's Fleece Cargo Sweatpants - Forged Iron Grey

https://preview.redd.it/7i0af5hvpc1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=92dce4e544cb42db5fbacbfa27281e8b9d05d628
As a fashion enthusiast, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the unique blend of practicality and comfort that the Garage Cargo Sweatpants have to offer. With an elastic waistband and adjustable drawstring, these sweatpants provide a secure and snug fit, making them perfect for lounging around or going on an active adventure.
The fleece interior is another highlight of this garment; it's incredibly soft against the skin, making every moment spent in these pants a cozy affair. Additionally, the 7-pocket detailing adds a layer of functionality and versatility to the pants, allowing you to carry more items without compromising on style or comfort.
One potential drawback to note is that the pants have a relaxed fit, which some individuals might find too baggy. However, this quality also adds to the comfort and ease of movement that these sweatpants provide.
In my personal experience, the Garage Cargo Sweatpants have become my go-to choice for both casual outings and lounging around at home. Their durability and high-quality materials have made them a worthwhile investment in my wardrobe, and I highly recommend them to anyone seeking comfort and style combined.

🔗Stylish Oversized Cargo Sweatpants

I've been using these Women's Essential Oversized Cargo Sunday Sweatpants in Light Grey from Abercrombie & Fitch for a while now, and I must say, they've quickly become my go-to choice for lounging around in comfort and style. The high rise design combined with the heavyweight Soft A&F Max fleece fabric creates an incredibly cozy sensation that's hard to beat.
One of the standout features of these sweatpants is their oversized Sunday silhouette. It gives a relaxed and effortless vibe that's perfect for those lazy Sunday mornings or cozy nights spent binge-watching your favorite shows. The elasticated waistband adds an extra layer of comfort, while the interior drawcords with metal aglets ensure a secure fit without sacrificing ease of taking them off.
The cargo-style pockets are another highlight for me. They provide ample storage space for my phone, keys, and other essentials without adding bulk to the overall look. Plus, they add a unique touch to the traditional sweatpant design, making them stand out in a sea of similar options.
However, there are some cons to consider. Firstly, the price point might be a bit steep for some people. While I believe the quality and comfort justify the cost, it's understandable that not everyone may want to invest in such an item. Secondly, some users have mentioned that the fold-over part of the waistband doesn't stay in place as it should, which can be slightly disappointing for those who prefer a neater appearance.
Overall, I'm absolutely in love with these Women's Essential Oversized Cargo Sunday Sweatpants from Abercrombie & Fitch. They offer unmatched comfort and style, making them a must-have addition to any wardrobe. If you're willing to overlook the minor flaws and high price tag, I can assure you that these sweatpants will be your new favorite pair!

As soon as I slipped into my new pair of Bershka cargo sweatpants in charcoal-gray, I knew I had found my ultimate comfort wear. The fabric is buttery-soft, and the elasticized waistband ensures a snug fit that's perfect for lounging around the house or running errands.
One of the best features of these sweatpants is definitely the functional pockets, which are spacious enough to hold all your essentials without creating bulk. Plus, the elastic cuffs keep the pants from riding up while you're on the go.
The regular, tapered fit strikes the right balance between casual and stylish, making these sweatpants a versatile addition to any wardrobe. I'm particularly impressed with the craftsmanship - everything from the stitching to the zippers feels durable and high-quality.
However, some users did report issues with the durability of the drawstring toggles and the overall sizing of the pants, so it might be worth considering these aspects before making your purchase.
Overall, I can't recommend the Bershka cargo sweatpants enough. They've become my go-to choice for lounging, working out, or simply enjoying a cozy day at home.

Soft and stylish, these vintage-inspired cargo sweatpants from Gap are perfect for lounging around or dressing up. Featuring an adjustable drawstring at the waist, along with slanted front pockets and spacious cargo pockets, these sweatpants provide both comfort and functionality.
I've been wearing these in both black and grey, and I've found that they pair nicely with both sneakers and boots. They're definitely on the longer side, so for those of us with shorter legs, it might be worth picking the petite size.
One downside is that these sweatpants shed, leaving a trail of fluff wherever I go. However, this is a small issue when you consider how comfortable and versatile they are. Overall, I would give these cargo sweatpants a well-deserved 4 out of 5 stars. If you're in the market for a stylish and comfy pair of sweatpants, these are definitely worth checking out!

Firstly, let me tell you about the comfort level of these fleece cargo sweatpants. I've been using them for a month now, and I have to say, I can't get enough of the softness. The feel of them is like a warm hug on a cold day - it's pure bliss!
The design is another aspect I absolutely adore. The cargo pockets are incredibly useful, especially when I'm out for a run or just lounging around the house. They can easily fit my phone, keys, and even a snack or two. Plus, the mid-rise waist keeps them securely in place without digging into my belly.
However, there are some cons that I think are worth mentioning. Firstly, the oversized fit might not be everyone's cup of tea. If you're looking for a sleeker look, these pants might not be what you're after. Secondly, the drawstrings on the waist can sometimes tend to loosen up, which could lead to the pants sagging a bit.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend these cargo sweatpants to anyone looking for comfortable, stylish, and practical loungewear. Just remember to size down if you prefer a more fitted look, and always keep an eye on those drawstrings!

I recently purchased these Pro Club Men's Heavyweight Fleece Cargo Pants for my daily wear, and I must say I am quite impressed. The 13oz fleece fabric is incredibly warm and comfortable, perfect for cold winter days. The heavyweight fleece also provides a nice buffer against wind and chill, making it an excellent choice for outdoor activities.
One of the standout features of these pants for me is the ample storage provided by the two side pockets, two rear pockets, and two cargo pockets. The Velcro flaps on the cargo and rear pockets keep my valuables secure, giving me peace of mind when I'm out and about. The elastic waistband with drawstring is another feature that I appreciate, as it allows for a snug and adjustable fit.
The sizing on these cargo pants is also quite accurate, making it easy to find the perfect fit. The only minor issue I have encountered is that the pants are a bit more relaxed in their fit than I initially expected. However, this is not necessarily a negative aspect, as it adds to the overall comfort and coziness of the garment.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase of the Pro Club Men's Heavyweight Fleece Cargo Pants. They provide excellent warmth, comfort, and style, making them a must-have for anyone looking for high-quality sweatpants that will keep them warm on those chilly days.

I recently got my hands on these Bershka Pocket Cargo Sweatpants in White, exclusively from ASOS, and I must say, they're a game-changer for my daily wardrobe. The moment I slipped them on, their comfort hit me like a warm hug. The fabric, made of 98% cotton and 2% elastane, offers an exquisite softness that's perfect for those laid-back days. I particularly appreciate the elasticized waistband, as I don't have to worry about constantly pulling up my pants.
The standout feature, however, is the thoughtfully designed pockets. They're not only functional but also add a unique touch to this cargo-inspired style. I've been using these sweatpants for running errands, and they're surprisingly versatile - they go perfectly with a simple t-shirt or even a button-down shirt for a more put-together look.
There are a few things that could have been done better, though. Some users have pointed out that the cargos run large, so sizing might be an issue for some. Additionally, the reviewers have mentioned that the pockets aren't actually functional, which might not be ideal for those looking for a practical pair of sweatpants.
Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend these Bershka Pocket Cargo Sweatpants for those who seek comfort and style in their everyday attire. They're perfect for lounging around or dressing up, making them a valuable addition to anyone's wardrobe.

I recently came across Rsq's Fleece Cargo Jogger Sweatpants in black, and I must say, they've become my go-to loungewear. The fleece lining provides exceptional warmth and comfort, making these perfect for a cozy night in or a casual outing. The drawstring waist ensures a secure and snug fit, while the side slip pockets provide ample storage for my phone and keys. The cargo pockets add extra flair, offering plenty of space for my essentials.
One of the standout features of these sweatpants is the fabric mix of 58% cotton, 37% recycled polyester, and 5% elastane. This unique blend makes the garment both durable and stretchy, ensuring optimal freedom of movement. Additionally, the machine-washable quality means I can effortlessly toss these in with the rest of my laundry, saving me time and energy.
However, there have been a few minor drawbacks with these sweatpants. Some users have reported that the sizing can be tricky, with certain measurements coming up shorter than expected. My personal experience with the sizing was accurate, but it's worth noting that the fit may vary for others. Furthermore, a few users have mentioned that the cargo pockets' Velcro closures can be slightly noisy, which may be a consideration for those seeking a quieter option.
All in all, Rsq's Fleece Cargo Jogger Sweatpants have been a fantastic addition to my wardrobe. They offer unparalleled comfort, stylish detailing, and eco-friendly materials—all at an affordable price. While there have been a few minor cons, their overall quality and performance have made them a must-have for anyone in search of the perfect loungewear.

🔗Bershka Gray Slim Cargo Sweatpants

I'm not going to lie - when I tried on the Bershka Slim Cargo Sweatpants in Gray, I was initially skeptical. But this wasn’t just another pair of sweatpants; it was a stylish, comfortable, and functional addition to my wardrobe.
The highlight for me was definitely the craftsmanship. From the elasticized waistband to the ribbed cuffs, everything felt well-made and durable. And let's not forget about those functional cargo pockets! They're perfect for stashing my keys or phone while I'm on the go.
However, there were some cons as well. The fit was a bit tricky for me, and I found myself having to size down multiple sizes to get the slim, tapered look I was going for. Plus, at the price point Bershka is offering these at, they might be considered a bit overpriced by some.
Overall, though, I'm glad I gave these pants a chance. If you're looking for a stylish and comfortable pair of cargo sweatpants, the Bershka Slim Cargo Sweatpants in Gray are definitely worth considering.

Duluth's Tradetek Heavyweight Sweats Cargo Pants truly live up to their name, providing both durability and comfort. As a reviewer who's worn them during chilly evenings and while working on projects around the house, I can attest that they're an excellent choice for those seeking a reliable and cozy pair of sweats.
One feature that really stands out is the built-in belt, which has been a game-changer in ensuring these pants stay up. Couple that with the thick material and deep, roomy pockets, and you've got a pair of sweatpants that can handle anything from casual relaxation to more active pursuits.
However, the elastic waistband has some room for improvement. Despite its decent thickness, it feels old and worn out compared to other sweatpants I've worn. This might be due to its limited stretch. While a good belt can compensate for this minor issue, some users with wider hips or a more substantial build might not feel as comfortable wearing them.
All things considered, the Tradetek Heavyweight Sweats Cargo Pants have served me well during the colder months. While they're not perfect, they strike a good balance between comfort and functionality, making them worth a try for anyone in the market for a sturdy and warm pair of cargo pants.

2024.05.19 11:21 Rapti_Of_Rebbit 88C spike with 14700K

Here is my build https://pcpartpicker.com/useGOODPC69/saved/nYcZQ7
I would want to know if it's fine ? I've checked everything with hwinfo64 for month since I've make this build and I have absolutely no temperature problem except the CPU can get pretty hot on some games like Helldivers 2 (note that temps are very good at idle or with cinebench and that it doesn't reach tjmax with the majority of the games I play)
What bother me is the spike temp I get all the time is 88C which is the max temp I set in bios which also mean it could reach 90 or higher, in 1-2 hours I can have 1 to 3 P core reaching tjmax but usually it's just one, although I didn't experienced any disturbing stutter at all or crash (except that as for now my 1% low fps are pretty bad and I still don't know why but it doesn't disturb me that much so its not a priority for now)
It doesn't reach it instantly but with approximately 5 minutes of games as the liquid temp will reach 40-42C and with a 70C average temp, 100-130 watts average consumption, 200 watts peak and with 30% cpu usage, 40-50 from task manager with youtube and some chrome tabs open
I don't think it comes from the thermal past application or the thermal past itself since I've repasted it quit a lot, first it had the pre applied thermal past of my Kraken, I changed it for arctic silver 5, then for mx-6 which I tried with both my Kraken elite and a Ryujin iii 360 (returned it for having pretty loud NF-F12 as these are 10 years old fans with a very old design and a very loud pump on top of that) and the temps only decreased a little when I first changed it for silver 5, mx-6 seems to perform the same or very close to it
So I wonder if I should decrease max temp by a few degree just to ensure a longer lifespan or if I should just get along with it, I can't undervolt it because of watchdog not enabled and it prevents me from being able to save any change with intel xtu and it seems a lot of people have the same problem with Asus mobo and Intel 13th/14th gen, I will check again later if it's still the case, I still don't understand how to configure offset or vcore in bios and afraid to use it, disabling turbo boost might reduce the performance to a point where having a +4000€ build isn't relevant anymore so I don't think it's an option either
What's your thoughts on it ? Am I worrying too much ?

2024.05.19 11:11 GarbaGarba I just want to share my sweet girl on her birthday!

I just want to share my sweet girl on her birthday!
Today, Eleanor Vader K-lastname turns 9! Her name was going to be Nancy, as I wanted to have a pet with an old lady name, but my now ex-husband just wasn’t feeling it when he got home and met her. The little girl that gave her to us was Ella, so Ella was what she was officially named. Over the years, her name has slowly transformed — she sometimes will respond to Ella, but now she mostly responds to Bean, and only to Beanie Baby when my roommate calls her. It was a long transition with quite a few nicknames!
She is one of the weirdest cats I have ever met in person. She has a huge personality that she is very careful with showing to unfamiliar people. This girl has been spoiled rotten since she came to live with me at 5 weeks old, after her mom disappeared. Her mom was a barn cat. Ella came to live with me, my two cats from the same litter that are 4 years older than her, and my dog that was 2 1/2 at the time. My dog, Jasper, has been obsessed with her for her whole life. They love each other so much!
I lived in an apartment in a small city when I first brought her home. She was pretty social and friendly as a kitten but kind of slowly stopped being as social with anyone outside of me or my ex-husband. No one had ever been unkind to her, she was just kind of an antisocial girl. In 2019, right after she turned 4, we moved to a much bigger house in the country and she just became a totally different cat. Over the first few months that we lived her, she completely came out of her shell and just showed off her big personality. I used to call her our “pet me with your eyes” cat, but now she was all about making friends.
In 2021, my ex and I split. I stayed in the house and invited my best friend to live with me. He moved in and brought his kitty, Zim, and Zim decided immediately that Ella was going to be his best friend. She did not agree for a while, but now, they are almost inseparable. When they can’t find each other, one will walk up and down the hall and yowl in their weird way until the other one comes out, so they can go find a place to snuggle. Zim taught Ella how to have a cat friend and Ella taught Zim how to gallop up and down the hall.
Ella loves to gallop full speed down my super long hallway, beg for extra meals, watch ghost bugs, perch in her cat bestie’s tower, snuggle Zim on the chair the two of them claimed, try to force the dog to clean her ears and face, bury invisible things, drink water upside down, eat spray can cheese, and sometimes escape her best friend for alone time.
Ella does not like traveling, stepping even one single toe bean outside, moccasins for some reason??, dogs that aren’t her brother-mom, and the fact that she is having much more carefully measured portions of food, because she and Zim got hella chunky and we needed to correct that. She is much slimmer now, but at what cost????? She also will tolerate her dog sister (who lives with dad), but prefers to not be in the same room as her. I am super close friends with my ex’s new wife, and even before that, I was my ex’s primary pup-sitter, since we got her together.
Happy birthday, miss Bean! I can’t wait to see what kind of unhinged shit you do this year.

2024.05.19 11:02 Pilot_Ka Clarity around transfer of company Health Insurance

Hi lovely folks of dubai. Would like some clarity around my Health Insurance situation.
I am a Golden Visa holder working with a company in the UAE. The company provides comprehensive health insurance covering me and my family members (Daman). The plan is really good and the benefits / coverage are great.
In the very near future (say 2 to 3 months), I plan to quit the company and take sometime off. This is going to be at least for a year or so as I have a number of issues to resolve. Post that I don't know if I will easily get a job or not. But I would like to continue staying in UAE.
While I am fairly comfortable managing my expenses for the next few years even without a job, I have some challenges with my insurance. Within the family, one of the members has a life long pre-existing condition which is extremely expensive to manage.
What I wanted to understand is that when I move out of the company, can I transfer my existing insurance to my Golden Visa? If yes, will it be at the same premium which my company is paying currently? Lastly, what happens next year? Will they continue with the same premium (with a little additional for inflation) or will they significantly ramp up my premium? The reason I ask this is because I am OK paying the current premium. However, a steep increase in the premium would be challenging for me.
Just for clarity, the current cost of the pre-existing condition of the family member is close to AED 100K per year and the yearly premium for the whole family is around 35K AED.
Appreciate any inputs / guidance from members here. Unfortunately can't openly discuss this with the company HR as it implies disclosing that I plan to quit in a couple of months time.

2024.05.19 10:56 Conscientiousness_ I'm tired being a free beta tester for blizzard

A rant ahead. TLDR blizz executives are bad, wow good The great cataclysm prepatch with everything broken desecrating my fond memories of my first ever WoW expansion. I just stopped playing at Kezan after getting 100 lua errors with 0 addons enabled.
Broken legendaries on start of season 4. An aspect that involves you counting and managing limited resource to decide a strategy of improving your character. All that gameplay trashed because of a single bug that was known on the ptr. A key dungeon (Uldaman 2nd boss) was bugged for 2 resets straight bricking your keys just because fuck you thats why.
And now Pandaria remix where you have:
Mediocre power wise leveling with bfa scaling which breaks everything past level 60 (everything literally works in regular retail). Heroic dungeons are broken right from the start at level 10. This also includes managing 102391284 gems in your inventory and that gem interface from tbc (which is 17 years old btw).
After getting 70 you can try to do normal raids (they are broken), try to farm heroic dungeons (they are also broken) or simply quest at a rate of 10 bronze per hour while some things cost like 40k and there are a LOT of them.
So the gameplay appeal of this mode is... what exactly? Gems have no purpose -> cause pve is broken. At least you could farm frogs more efficiently I guess. Reputation and mogs farms are literally something you could do on regular retail.
In the end I want to thank 2 devs making all these things for us although being unfinished and not working on release. Also this makes me ask myself when does a great name of World of Warcraft spends itself? A good bet would be never because that reflects how our game is truly great. On the bad side, that is just gonna be abused by blizz executives having 2 devs working on everything and then finishing it afterwards which is stupid from a consumer's perspective in my opinion.

2024.05.19 10:32 Complex-Addition-513 Shadows and Echoes

In the heart of Chicago, where the skyline pierced the heavens and the streets pulsed with life, there lived a man named Victor Kane. At 26 years old and a startling 6'3" in stature, Victor commanded attention effortlessly. His piercing gaze seemed to see through the very fabric of one's soul, and his knowing, flirtatious smirk hinted at secrets that few could ever fathom. Victor was a man of many faces, each one carefully crafted and expertly worn to blend into any situation, like a chameleon adapting to its surroundings. Each interaction with another human was as if it were another painting to be hung in the Art Institute of Chicago, a masterpiece of social maneuvering and charm.
To most, he appeared unremarkable, perhaps even a bit dim, an illusion he maintained with meticulous precision. Yet beneath this facade lay a mind as sharp as a dagger, honed by years of strategic thinking, manipulation, and the art of emotional deceit. Victor had learned from the best. His father, a man deeply entrenched in the shadowy world of organized crime, had mastered the art of bending reality to his will. A master chess player, he treated people like pieces on a grand chessboard, moving them at his whim, always six steps ahead. Victor had absorbed these lessons like a sponge, his young mind eagerly soaking up every tactic, every subtle nuance of control.
Battles with his father have left their scars, trailing off Victor like a snake's entrails as they slither through crowded streets, scanning for their next meal. They probe the aura of each passerby, tasting their energy, yet to their disappointment, they find no juicy, dirt-filled sponge of pain and suffering. They taste desires, yet nothing hits just right. Empty husks, devoid of the essence they crave. Living memories enshroud him in a cloud of black smoke, a spectral fog visible only to a witch. A demon, masquerading as a homeless man and muttering incoherent whispers, feels the snake's embrace tighten around him. He halts abruptly, turning to Victor with a knowing gaze. 'I see you,' he murmurs, 'Such discipline and composure may deceive the others, yet it's only a matter of time before they find you.' The homeless man continues his walk, pulling a black suitcase along, his tattered white shirt contrasting sharply with his black suit, and no tie to complete the ensemble.
Victor makes no comment, his mind a labyrinth of dark intentions and calculated moves. He viewed the world as a malleable entity, something he could shape and twist to suit his needs. The streets, the people, the very air he breathed; they were all part of a grand, intricate game where he alone held the key. He had no qualms about using others to achieve his goals, seeing them as mere tools in his grand design. It was a dangerous philosophy, one which required constant vigilance and adaptability. As he moved through the throngs of oblivious souls, he could almost hear the whispers of their deepest fears and hidden sins. The scars trailed behind him, living entities of their own, reaching out hungrily, desperate for a morsel of genuine suffering. Yet the city, with all its noise and chaos, offered little more than hollow echoes and fleeting shadows. Traces of happiness. Lost children in the never ending void of their own desperation. Victor's eyes flickered with a cold, calculating light. He was a master of this urban jungle, a predator in search of worthy prey. The demon’s warning lingered in his mind, yet it only fueled a burning hunger. He thrived in the shadows, where power and control were his for the taking. Each step he took was a step closer to his ultimate end goal, a twisted vision of dominance, only he could see.
In the distance, the city’s lights shimmered like false promises, yet Victor knew better. Beneath the surface, in hidden corners and forgotten alleys, darkness mirrored his own. In this abyss, he felt certain he would find what he sought: the true essence of his own hunger, the raw, unfiltered energy he could devour. Victor thrived on the underestimation of others, reveling when people perceived him as lesser. Such perceptions made his manipulations appear as innocent mistakes, acts of ignorance and oblivion. His favorite targets: those with inflated egos, individuals convinced of their invincibility.
"A person with a big ego is like an orgasm," he often mused, speaking as if to his shadow. "It's just so easy. Their first mistake: telling me we're not equals. Afterward, they reveal all the buttons and levers in their psyche. They hand me their own weapon on a silver platter, asking, 'Victor, please send me to meet Anpu. Please show me the gates of my own demise.' Their insanity begs to be freed from this curse of societal norms. Always the first mistake, then the rest follow." Laughter echoed from the snakes twining around Victor. As he whispered these musings, the words ensnared a group of Venezuelans nearby, inciting them into a frenzy of violence without understanding the spark. Victor watched, casually tossing a silver dollar their way as if to say, "Welcome to the sanctuary," his smirk a shadow under the flickering streetlights. He calls to the boys, 'there now before you boys get into trouble remember this, you're only seeing the lions teeth, yet you haven't seen what triggered it.' They stared at Victor, startled, as he bid them farewell with a two-finger salute from his left temple and continued wandering down the street.
A drone sliced through the air, its camera lens capturing the serpentine twists of the Chicago River below. Victor, watching its flight, was transported to his youth, to days spent cobbling together a demonic owl from discarded household trinkets and an owl decoy. He would pilot this macabre creation through his neighborhood, a spectral puppeteer orchestrating nocturnal ballets which both delighted and unnerved his unsuspecting audience. A sinister grin unfurled across his lips, a shadow's whisper, as memories of those simple machines mingled with the sophisticated arsenal he commanded today. In the digital age, Victor had become a maestro of manipulation, his tools refined yet no less mischievous. Social media platforms were his stage, targeted advertisements and spoofed numbers his actors, each one playing their part in his grand, deceptive symphony. With the deftest touch, he planted seeds of doubt, spun webs of misinformation, transforming allies into adversaries, stitching chaos into the fabric of daily lives with mere whispers masquerading as shouts. His schemes were crafted with such subtlety, woven so seamlessly into the warp and weft of reality, that his victims believed themselves architects of their own undoing.
The crowning jewel of his current machinations was a prototype drone, a whimsical homage to the contraptions of his youth yet imbued with the precision of modern technology. This drone, engineered to navigate from the chilly confines of his refrigerator to the steamy oasis of his rooftop hot tub, was a testament to his technical acumen. Crafted to be mended with mere baubles from any corner hardware store, it stood as a symbol of practical genius, a playful yet potent emblem of his enduring craft.
Victor glimpsed a universe of possibilities within this project, each drone a seed from which new opportunities might bloom. "Perhaps I could craft a model for a dive shop in Australia," he mused. "A sentinel to monitor the slow dance of decay among the coral reefs." Such a gift could forge pathways, perhaps even secure an internship, an opportunity to wield his 417 subclass visa before its flame flickered out. The prospect of traversing Australia's vast landscapes, of weaving his influence through uncharted territories and minds, sparked a thrill within him. Beyond the realm of circuitry and code, Victor possessed a profound mastery over the human psyche. He had the uncanny ability to read individuals, to delve into the murky depths of their insecurities and desires. With the finesse of a sculptor, he could mold a woman’s perception, convincing her of a soul-deep connection, crafting mirages of perfect compatibility. Yet, for all his prowess in the art of deception, Victor adhered to his own strict code. He eschewed physical violence, never staining his hands with assault; his dominion was the mind, his influence woven through the delicate fabric of psychology.
In Chicago's suffocating underbelly, Victor's father regarded him not with paternal concern, rather with venomous animosity. Their relationship was a battleground, devoid of affection or empathy, cloaked threats masquerading as concern. "Victor, if you don't see a psychiatrist, I'm cutting you off," he declared, his voice a cold hiss, a deeper wish for Victor's demise lurking beneath. Victor's laugh, hollow, echoing through the night, a sound devoid of warmth, knew well the true nature of the psychiatrist and the deeper machinations of his father's cruel intentions. His father viewed him not as a son, yet as a nemesis, a presence he wished to erase from existence. Surrounded by the oppressive cityscape, Victor stood alone atop his building, the L line screeching past, the lights below mere distant, watchful eyes. "Tomorrow, I bend reality once more," he whispered into the void, his voice merging with the cold wind sweeping the rooftops.
The relentless pursuit of his father's malice shadowed him into the darkest city corners where shadows moved with intent, whispering of ancient, sinister forces. Here, in the corner of his eyes an oozing of black liquid drenched an alley, a tar monster, a grotesque manifestation of the city’s darkest secrets, its gnarled face and gleaming teeth mirroring the twisted relationship endured. Against a backdrop of a city thrumming with malevolent energy, Victor pondered the fragile line between delusion and reality. "It's only delusional till it works, so is it really delusional?" he mused aloud, his words dissipating into the night where the distinction between madness and genius blurred by darkness.
Retreating from the alley, his figure melded into the shadows, each step deliberate, burdened with the weight of a cursed legacy. He was acutely aware of his dual role, both manipulator and pawn in a grander, more malevolent game, a game orchestrated by forces predating the city itself. Every movement influenced by the sinister energy pervading Chicago, a legacy of corruption and darkness intertwined with his own existence. Victor understood his every action overseen by the ancient entity had taken interest in him, an entity finding delight in his struggle, offering protection at a dreadful cost.
Emerging from the shadows back into the flickering city lights, Victor found no solace in the illumination yet his smile stretched reaching his eyes showing his gleaming razor sharp teeth. These lights did not offer hope only humor; they were beacons of a foreboding reality. He resolved to continue bending reality, wielding the cursed power both protecting, ensnaring him, and pointing out the irony of his situation. Day after day, he would play this dark game, a master of deceit entwined with an ancient force more profound and sinister than any could fathom.
With one final, lingering look at the alley where darkness reigned supreme, Victor Kane laughed, a hollow echo fading as he stepped into the nearby pub. Inside, the warm glow contrasted starkly with the night's chilling embrace, yet the shadows seemed merely to lurk at the edges, waiting. At their usual spot by the worn bar, he found Billy Smith, his old high school Basketball teammate, with two pints of beer ready. They clinked glasses, the sound slicing through the hum of conversations around them. "To the unexpected," Victor intoned, his voice laced with a hint of irony. As they settled into the rhythm of their catch-up, the conversation inevitably turned toward the unfolding news, the war in Ukraine, an event that had caught the world off guard.
"No one ever saw it coming," Billy remarked, his tone a mix of wonder and concern.
Victor's eyes flickered with a dark amusement, and raising his glass again, he offered a toast, this time in Latin, a language that carried the weight of history and secrets. "Ad profundis malorum," he declared, which translated to 'To the depths of evils.'
Billy paused, the words hanging between them like a veil being slowly drawn back to reveal a hidden scene. The toast was enigmatic, resonant with Victor’s acknowledgment of the chaos brewing both near and far, a chaos that, perhaps, only he could navigate.
As the night deepened within the grimy confines of the pub, where every corner whispered of misdeeds and the air hung heavy with the scent of stale beer and lost hopes, the laughter and chatter provided a deceptive cover for the profound game silently playing in Victor’s mind. His cryptic toast, "Ad profundis malorum," echoed a darker undertone amidst the jovial noise.
Across the bar, a woman with long jet black hair and piercing grey eyes watched Victor. Clad in a striking red full-grain leather trench coat, her presence was undeniably conspicuous, yet paradoxically, she remained unnoticed. Despite her short stature, she was fit, her features sharply defined, an attractiveness seemingly almost otherworldly amidst the grime of the pub. Curiously, not even the barkeep spared her a glance, as if she existed in a separate realm, visible only to those she chose to confront. As Billy excitedly shared his plans to open a dive shop with a taco bar on the roof, the woman’s lips moved in a whisper, her voice a soft, clear bell in the din, carrying a dire warning. "I know what you are. We found you." At that moment, a flashback surged through Victor’s mind, a haunting image of a colonial girl he once saw in the Fraser Experimental Forest. His girlfriend at the time had turned to him, her voice tinged with unease. "Victor, do you see what I see? The girl? Yeah, the girl. I can feel something following us. As if it knows what we are yet won't approach, yet I can feel it." This vivid recollection now seemed a prelude to the current moment, a chilling reminder the forces he had glimpsed back then were the same now declaring their presence.
The evening wound down with plans made and stories shared, yet the woman’s prophetic words and the ghostly memory of the girl hung unseen in the air, portending looming confrontations between the light she embodied and the shadow following Victor Kane. As the patrons began to drift away, the shadows reclaiming their territory within the pub, the mysterious woman’s figure faded into the background, her message delivered, her purpose yet unclear but undoubtedly intertwined with Victor’s fate.
The end.

2024.05.19 10:19 bebara Landlord wants to keep my deposit and asking me to pay on top of that too

So I moved from a county to another as I changed my job to a much better one March this year.
on my first day the neighbours were harassing me and knocking on my door in unreasonable hours asking me to move my car from my driveway as they have "an agreement" amongst themselves to keep my driveway for the neighbourhood bins!!
I have been shouted at and chased by one of them without considering that if there is any agreement then the landlord haven't mentioned it to me.
fast forward, I called the landlord and as he lives just down the road he showed up at my doorstep in 10 minutes.
the story begins here, he found out I have kittens (on top of the declared cats in the contract) and he went mad and started to be aggressive shouting and going mad and grabbing my 4 weeks old kittens to check if they have fleas! They shouting again then he left slamming the door behind him. Then he walked back and asked me how fast I can find another place? Then left completely.
I have CPTSD and what happened affected me badly so I sent him an email the next day stating that his behaviour made me suffer and I wouldn’t want to stay anyway after what happened and I want him to issue me the leave notice.
He then started throwing everything back on me saying that I am the one who’s requesting to leave and he wants to charge me for reletting costs nearly £500.
I moved out and hired a professional company to clean the property and claimed my full deposit back from the DPS. The landlord went mad and sent me an email requesting the reletting costs of £500 + the disposal of all the carpets of £830 + stains of the stairs of £50 + £75 as he said there’s a strong urine smell comes from behind the washing machine!! And in total he wants my full deposit and he wants me to pay the extras on top, but he’s happy to take only £700 as he thinks it’s “extremely generous of him”. He sent me the email on Friday evening and wants the response by Monday morning otherwise he’s going to take me to court for breaching the contract and threatening me of claiming more if I don’t accept his generous offer!!
What are my rights here? And what can he do?
Knowing that my carpets were on the floor not his, and I still have the receipt of the professional cleaning company and the cats were only allowed in one room not all the house! And there’s no clause for the reletting costs mentioned in the contract.
I don’t feel it’s fair to pay this much for a place I stayed in for only 3 weeks! And I mentioned before to him that I will be happy to contribute towards the reletting costs but won’t pay the whole amount as it wasn’t my decision to vacate.
Please advise me!

2024.05.19 10:12 HymnoftheBrokenMan Week from hell pt 5

For a single moment everything went calm after I told her fuck it idk if I’m sick anymore I’m gonna fucking help whether you like it or not. She’s got what she wanted and we actually started working together. Fucking peace over health any day, honestly idk if I’m going to not get end it so future doesn’t really matter to me right now.
We start cleaning throwing away old useless shit cleaning out the dresser to go to the basement. Everything seems perfect once again. Then it happens….
We took a break it was maybe noon or so. I made myself a sandwich and planned to take a stab at the electrical next (it had been years but I was fairly good at electrical so swapping switches and outlets would be easy. I picked one up and investigated it (new style not some shitty mass pitches for house wiring) okay easy enough it’s identical set up just outside looks different…. Then it happens…
I hear yelling, my wife screaming about how if she’s the problem then she’ll just leave. I’m so confused everything was going perfect why now wtf happened I just want come peace and calm.
My mom was crying ( this is something I’ve never seen before) I was floored and scared I rush out and try to calm the situation down but my wife has already stormed out the door. I turn to my mom WTF just happened through the tears I just hear “I’ve just had it I can’t stand this anymore.” My wife calls me starts ranting about how she needs to get out of here. She left her keys and needs me to get them to her causes she’s not going back in. I grab them go out and ask WTF is going on she rambles about she fucked up and she went too far. And leaves.
I come back in and try to talk to my mom, at this point two firsts she’s crying and now beside herself. Then starts talking about me in the hospital and pushing myself and …. Then…. Dad. It all hits me at once. In just a week will be the 9th year without dad. She’s sick with sadness and worry cause I go and nearly get a brain infection the same week my dad passes 9 years prior.
We sit down and talk, 30 minutes go by and no wife. My mom decided she isn’t in the right mind anymore and chooses to leave before getting into another fight. Turns out the entire fucking 4-5 days my mom is up here my wife was just non-stop shitting on me. Everything I do is wrong and MIL added too it. All this going on without me even noticing.
I walk outside and let MIL know wife had stormed off. My mom gathers what’s left of her dignity and composure. Says good by and leaves. MIL callswife said it’s best if I don’t. Spends 30-40 minutes on the phone. Then she comes home. After all of this I just said fuck it and kept playing with the kids and working the best that I could. I’m rewriting a switch when wife comes back.

2024.05.19 10:11 crumbsandsuch Considering taking out of my 401k

Hey everyone. I’m not the best with money so be nice lol. Just need some advice.
I’m 23. I went through a lot these last few years and made some shitty financial decisions. For example I bought a car 3 years ago and now I’m way upside down in the loan. I owe 18k and the car is worth 10k.
I have 3k in credit card debt and 1.5k in very high interest personal loans. I also have 20k in student loans. My credit score tanked last year. I was stuck for a long time in a serving job and now I owe almost 2k on my taxes. I literally made 35k last year and now I make around 42k.
Things are improving but I’m falling behind on the credit card payments and I’m struggling every month to make ends meet. I am going for a promotion at my job which should bring in a few more dollars an hour. I also got my last semester of college fully funded through my work, so no more student loans. The plan is to be in a salaried position at my company by the end December (65k), and I have several people working closely with me to make sure it happens but obviously there’s no guarantee.
My question is do I take out a portion of my old 401k (it’s been sitting in an account from my job two years ago) so I can survive until things get better. I have 7k in the account. I just recently started contributing to a 401k through my new job. I’m thinking of taking out half and rolling over the other half. With half of the account I can pay the 2000 I owe on my taxes, sit some of the money in a high yield savings (I have no emergency fund rn), and put the rest toward my credit cards to reduce the amount of bills I have to pay every month. Otherwise I’ll keep living by my same budget and trying to cut costs wherever possible.
I know this is a huge, huge, huge no no in personal finance, and I’m losing myself hundreds of thousands of dollars in a few decades. My hope is that by finishing school and making a more comfortable wage I can contribute a higher percentage to my retirement accounts soon, and pay myself back some of what I took out. I wouldn’t be considering it but I feel like I have no other way to come up with the 2k for my taxes.
Any advice is more than appreciated!

2024.05.19 10:03 Germinalmc Halo MCC question here: Did the skill cap greatly increased since the old days of halo 3 or is the mcc full of cheaters?

Greetings fellow Halo enthusiasts, im a 40 year old returning player that just bought halo mcc to remember the old days, i used to play halo during its glory days and i must say i was a pretty darn decent player, i was never at the level of pro level players but most often than frequently i matched with them 9 out of 10 games they would win of course but my team and i managed to upset a couple of games here and there specially in halo 3 and i could definitely hold my ground against them, the reason im typing this is cuz ive been getting destroyed(and when i mean destroyed i mean sweeping the floor with me, blained to the ground by these random players i keep getting matched, obviously i know i was out of shape so i first completed all games in legendary difficulty to awaken my reflexes and muscle memory, which came back pretty quick).
Is halo competitive evolved that far beyond where players that were pretty decent like myself are completely outdated or is the mcc full of cheaters?
Back in the day in h2 i was 38 in team slayer, 40 in sniper, 34 in ffa and 36 in hardcore (keep in mind that after a while h2 was imposible to rank up cuz of modders and bridgers, if you do t know what that is then you definitely didnt play h2, and in h3 i was 50 lone wolf(ffa), 50 team slayer, 50 mlg, 50 team doubles, 50 swat, so as you can see read, i was not bad at all, what the hell is going on in the mcc multiplayer, can anyone plz explain how the hell all these random players keep destroying me like that, yesterday i entered a game where a dude had 27 kills in the first 2 mins of the game, am i getting paired up with huge smurfs accounts or i just plainly suck by today standard.
Thx in advance for your response.

  52. Gronkowski 6% in only 2 Patriots' seasons
  53. Zack Martin 5-6%
  54. Antonio Gates 5-6%
  55. Jason Kelce 3-4%
These are contracts that i could find over 10% of cap space + some HOFers at other positions for comparison. Mario Williams probably got the worst, most expensive contracts compared to his production. T. J. Watt costs a lot more than his older brother. MVP RBs Faulk, Tomlinson, E. Smith were 5-9%. DBs such as Polamalu, Reed,... were always in 5-8% range, it's probably like that at all positions except for QBs.
These expensive contracts worked very well for Colts (Manning), Chiefs (Mahomes), Packers (Rodgers), Steelers (Roethlisberger, Watt), Broncos (Manning), Patriots (Brady), 49ers (Young, Williams), Vikings (Peterson), otherwise there are a lot of seasons around .500 record or losing in wild card as a low seed. Rarely was a contract of 13+ % of cap good. Flacco's contract sank Ravens, Eli's Giants etc.
Now current contracts:
Player % of team salary cap taken, projections
  1. Watson 22% in 2024, 24.6% in 2025
  2. Stafford 19.3% in 2024, 19.4% in 2025
  3. K. Murray 18.2% in 2024, 18.8% in 2026
  4. D. Jones 18.4% in 2024 + dead cap in 2025
  5. Cousins 20.2% in 2026, 15.4% in 2025
  6. Mahomes 14.7% in 2024, 25.5% in 2025 (can easily be lowered)
  7. L. Jackson 16.8% in 2025, 26.3% in 2026
  8. Allen 16.6% in 2025, 22.5% in 2026
  9. Carr 19.8% in 2025
  10. Burrow 17.8% in 2025, 17% in 2026
  11. Herbert 14.4% in 2025, 16.3% in 2026
  12. Goff 12.5% in 2025, 24.5% in 2026
What will happen with Precott's contract is unclear, currently he has last year in 2024 for 21.2% of cap.
Future salary cap may be higher than expected, so some projection of 22% in 2026, may end up being 20%. All these starter contracts are taking significantly more cap than old contracts of HOFers and starters listed above.
Teams are adding void years, to artificially lower cap numbers of such contracts, creating "dead cap" at the end of contract. Saints and Eagles are masters of this.
List of recent "dead cap" after contracts for players that weren't on team anymore:
Player % of team salary cap was dead
  1. "dead Wilson" 20.8% of Broncos in 2024, 11.7% in 2025
  2. "dead Ryan" 19.2% of 2022 Falcons, 8% of 2023 Colts
  3. "dead Brady" 15.5% of 2023 Bucs
  4. "dead Flacco" 8.5% of 2019 Ravens, 6.5% of 2020 Broncos
  5. "dead Goff" 13.5% of 2021 Rams
  6. "dead P. Manning" 13.3% of 2012 Colts
  7. "dead Wilson" 12.5% of 2022 Seahawks
  8. "dead Romo" 6.4% of 2017 Cowboys and 5% in 2018
  9. "dead Brees" 6.1% of Saints in 2021, 5.3% in 2022
  10. "dead Cousins" 11% of 2024 Vikings
  11. "dead Stafford" 10.4% of 2021 Lions
  12. "dead Palmer" 7.6% of 2013 Raiders
So teams are nowadays willing to have as large dead caps as any HOFers (except P. Manning on Colts) were taking on active contracts. Such huge dead caps are accumulating on contracts of Hurts, Prescott,... all because they have expensive contracts, teams are manipulating the cap, creating "dead cap".
Hopefully this can show how overpaid current QBs are: they take more cap % than in any previous era+leave "dead cap". This 15-20% of cap given to QB only works for MVP-level of play, carrying the offense year after year. There are 2-3 such players.
