As the title says, I lied about my age 6 months ago ( beginning of my 1st year) to one friend then the lie spread out super fast to everyone so I couldn't correct it. I lied because I was in a deep depressive state , I dropped out of school 2 times , I'm super shy due to some bullying episodes that I went through elementary school. I fear people's views on me . Lying was the option in my head to fit in, I didn't know how to justify the fact that I'm 20 and still in first year while they're 18. It just felt weird. Now I don't know what to do, I'm stuck between 2 choices and both of them are bad. I'm pretty sure they will judge me , laugh at me and make a story to all my college friends about it. They love drama. I don't feel safe doing it because they're probably not my real friends, we just hang out to go to parties and take ig pics. It's superficial for now. But I also feel so guilty, it hurts me to live with the lie till now.

The vipassana training is a great offering to the world and the visions and contributions of Goenka-ji are beyond wonderful. People who serve here out of dharma service and their willingness to help are admirable.
However, as a participant of the training, I’d sadly have to give a poor review. Whether the course is free or not, or the meditation technique itself has nothing to do with these feedbacks.
The way the training is structured is more like a military training than a learning experience. There are a long list of rules including no phones, no books, no journaling, no exercises etc., while I appreciate some of the rules like noble silence which helps attendants focus inwards, all other rules are rigid beyond reasoning. There, in my opinion, must be a middle way. Also I believe these should be suggestions or advices rather than rules. Goenka spoke so much about blind devotion this is kind of hypocritical.
I am not sure if this is universal across all Goenka’s centres however the people running this centre near Barcelona are like slaves to these rules, without ANY discernment. Speaking of attachment! You are not allowed to exercise, you are not allowed to skip meals or a dharma talk, or walk outside at this time. I felt like I was in a concentration camp where every move is being monitored. The manager came to my bed to ask why I am not having breakfast, and said I am not allowed to fast. I found this so ridiculous! I chose to listen to my body need, I don’t eat when I am not hungry. Then I had to go to the teacher to explain why i skipped breakfast! Man we are not in the kindergarten!
Honestly they are so rigid to following the rules I think they are just sheep attached to the idea of having control over people in the group rather than wishing the best for everyone’s learning process and seeing each person’s needs as they are, and accept each one has different needs. This entirely makes the whole experience torturous, and prison-like. If the goal of awakening/enlightenment is to see through the illusion and become the true self, I believe blindly following rules others impose on you without critical thinking is a huge obstacle. Since when exercising interfere with meditation? Yogis have been practicing asana for centuries to aid meditation. There must be some sort of explanation to these rules sadly these are not explained at all. I think they completely miss the plot. This is not the type of Sangha I want to practice with. Everyone behaved like sheep in there.
Everyone seems to be bowing down to the teacher Victoria whom I have no idea who she is and where this superiority comes from? Not to disrespect her but there was no prior communications about having a teacher and who this teacher is. The way I was told to interact with her was like asking me to meet the queen, look at her all the time and sit like this and that etc. Every little thing even non meditation issue has to go through her which I found ridiculous! Unfortunately, as a dharma teacher herself she has very little to no skill to hold space for my concerns. She sits on her dharma throne trying to fake compassion and brushes off whatever I had to say is the worst kind of compassion. She even told me I had signed an agreement to listen to everything she said, I had no idea where I signed this but this is so unbelievable coming directly from a dharma teacher. So much attachment to rules and her inflated superiority, so little equanimity and compassion and love.
regarding the Goenka’s material, I honestly think l it can be improved so much! I admire what this man has done to the world but man, precise communication is not his thing! He keeps on looping through same ideas with his word salad and fluff, some of the discourses are great but most of them are redundant! He could have covered so much more Buddha’s teaching in those 15 hours but it was literally the same ideas everyday. I have studied Buddha’s teaching for around 2 years now and I regret I didn’t learn anything new in this 10 day intensive course. The vipassana instructions are tedious and redundant, the off pitch chanting is a huge test to my equanimity! if I were to record some materials and use them globally for 30 plus years, I would put my effort to script it to perfection.
The female dorm is claustrophobic, with bunk beds facing each other where the space between can only fit one person. One person snores the whole dorm can’t sleep.
I hate to have to provide a bad review, i sincerely hope more people can benefit from this technique to step into mindfulness. If you want to rough it through 10 intensive days striping off all your freedom, repeatedly listening to Goenka’s off pitch chanting and 60% redundant and tedious vipassana instructions, this is THE place to develop equanimity. Otherwise there are better places to learn how to meditate!

Hey there just wanted to share my experience a week later to show people what to expect and how I’ve handled my situation
7 days ago I was messaged from an account with 400 followers and roughly 200 following, account was on Instagram and was supposedly a 19 year old girl from Nevada with bible verses in her bio
She texted me, I was suspicious and somehow she managed to convince me it was really her and even sent photos holding up 4 fingers which I thought for sure would let me know I was being scammed - but after asking a few ways of photo verification I was convinced as my requests were fulfilled
Yada yada yada we exchange pics and I get hit with the ultimatum of send $800 or have my pictures sent to my family and friends (they had screenshots of my following from tiktok, Facebook and instagram).
I’ve never been in this situation before so of course I was frightened but I felt the best thing to do was convince them I genuinely had no money, I managed to convince the scammer I only had $150 in my account (I have 2 bank accounts and this one had $200 in it so I transferred $150 into an empty savings account to show) and I stupidly sent the money. If I knew then what I know now I would not have sent the money. After sending the money my phone died and when I turned it on I came back to multiple threats and more screenshots of the scammer making group chats with many family members and friends. After reading up on what to do and looking through this subreddit I decided to block on both instagram and my phone number (I gave them my phone number as they wanted to talk over messenger instead)
After blocking, I changed my profile picture to black, changed my account name and deleted my bio, I also deleted my tiktok as I don’t really have a need for it anyways
It took 4 days for them to reach out again over a different phone number except it was a different person and they had no clue about my situation as they thought I was still in school and they were threatening things to do with the principal of the school (I’m 22 lol)
I immediately blocked and haven’t responded - I went to instagram to check if I’d been messaged again there and turns out the original account that scammed me had been deleted so that was a plus
I asked some friends who were supposedly in the group chats and they said they never saw a request so I believe somehow they fake the group chats even if it’s on instagram
But yeah it’s now been 7 days since the initial text, it took about 4 days for me to realise they have nothing over me and if I don’t comply there’s a very high chance they’ll do fuck all so even though I can’t be 100%, I feel 99% certain they won’t do anything
TL-DR ;

I have a huge interest in dating culture, human behavior and data similar to Ali and this little project of mine was really interesting once I got the framework of this list. I started this list once I found this sub in December 2023 and started re listening to the Patreon while working out (and lost 10 lbs ayeee) and writing down information in my notes app. I did my best to keep this list unbiased and just give facts and information that was said.
My own thoughts after making this list is that I'm very sad for Ali. I didn't realize the extent of her dating history. I think about my own dating history or even my friends who are in their 30's and dating and Ali's dating lore runs so deep. Is Ali unlucky with love? Did she pass on someone that could have been great for her? How has she had so many dates with little success in a long term partner or even going beyond 6-8 dates? Or is Skyline the person she has been waiting for? What's the pattern with all this dates/men? So many questions.
I truly do hope Ali finds her guy because I believe theres someone for everyone. Until then, I'll be hopping into this sub (cause y'all are too funny and give the best advice) and waiting for Ali to find Mr. Height.

Andddd I stopped listening to the podcast around the Dr. Pie Laundry Guy but have stayed up to date with everything via this sub.
I have a huge interest in dating culture, human behavior and data similar to Ali and this little project of mine was really interesting once I got the framework of this list. I started this list once I found this sub in December 2023 and started re listening to the Patreon while working out (and lost 10 lbs ayeee) and writing down information in my notes app. I did my best to keep this list unbiased and just give facts and information that was said.
My own thoughts after making this list is that I'm very sad for Ali. I didn't realize the extent of her dating history. I think about my own dating history or even my friends who are in their 30's and dating and Ali's dating lore runs so deep. Is Ali unlucky with love? Did she pass on someone that could have been great for her? How has she had so many dates with little success in a long term partner or even going beyond 6-8 dates? Or is Skyline the person she has been waiting for? What's the pattern with all this dates/men? So many questions.
I truly do hope Ali finds her guy because I believe theres someone for everyone. Until then, I'll be hopping into this sub (cause y'all are too funny and give the best advice) and waiting for Ali to find Mr. Height.

My (17f) have a guy friend let’s call him J. He’s super nice and sweet and we got close very fast. Well over the time that we’ve known each other my friends, siblings, and even my parents keep saying that he likes me. I grew up with an abusive sister who is moving out next week, so being told no one wants you, your whole life, I just shot down this information. A few weeks ago J came to me and said he had a small crush on my friend Lorelei (fake name) but she had just gotten out of an abusive relationship so (through me) we very kindly shot him down. He said he didn’t think the crush would go anywhere anyways. Fast forward a few weeks, and we are texting every day, and he calls one or twice a week. Last night we had prom, and we went “together “ we went with a big group of friends really. Anyways, we basically stuck together the whole night, and he even asked me to dance a few times. Sometimes I would be dancing and I would look over and see him watching me. Could he have been watching ANYONE else? Yes. Probably was, but it looked like he was watching me. I got asked to dance by a few of our friends and he seemed almost annoyed? He even took pics on his phone of just him and I. After prom we were in the car, driving to go out to eat, and we were in the back of the car. I was to tired that I decided to rest my head on his shoulder, and he rested his head on mine. Yes he probably was just tired. And at the restaurant he sat across from me and one of my best friends texted me and she said, he kept staring at me when I wasn’t looking, or would smile when I was talking to someone else and start laughing or smiling. On the was home (it was a long drive) I fell asleep and I woke up resting my head on his shoulder again and he was asleep too. Head rested on mine. Could this all just be cause we’re close friends? Yes, probably is. But with everyone telling me he likes me and me being more oblivious than someone watching an avalanche barreling towards them and not seeing the danger, I thought I would come on here and ask. So?
