2024.05.19 13:40 abifragile Newbie looking for advice please
I bought this gorgeous big albo leaf online about a year ago and propogated it in water until a decent amount of roots grew. I've potted it in a mix of bark, perlite and soil. I'm worried because all the new leaves that have grown have been very white - but I'm reading a lot of conflicting information online about care and really just need some advice. I've heard too much light will encourage whiter leaves, so I didn't want to put it in the same position as my healthy happy normal monstera. The leaf tips are going brown, and I've read online that could either be too much light or not enough, could either be too much watering or not enough - I'm just so confused. I cut some of the brown off because it was stressing me out. I use a moisture detector probe and make sure its never wet. I also bought a halo light for it because I later read that these guys actually need more light because of the lack of green leaf to photosynthesise. I use gold leaf plant food in the water every other watering. A new leaf is growing but it has so little green I'm just worried about the longevity of the plant, given that all the other leaves seem to be steadily browning!? submitted by abifragile to MonsteraAlbo [link] [comments] Can anyone with experience let me know if this all seems normal for an albo? Is the general consensus to put it in strong light or shield it from the sun? New growth it great but if my placement is forcing white leaves then it's a countdown to death, right!? Any care tips would be so welcome, thank you |
2024.05.19 13:15 ellenoftheways Bird of Paradise advice
I bought this from Tesco last year down to pennies (she had to be rescued) and she was going from strength to strength but in the last few weeks I've noticed some odd brown patches and some leaf splitting. Just noticed she's suddenly become very pot bound so will up her pot later. No signs of anything bug wise, but I've washed and treated anyway to be sure. She lives in our west facing bathroom, doesn't appear dehydrated though a very thirst girl. submitted by ellenoftheways to HouseplantsUK [link] [comments] Could it be fungal or perhaps some cold damage (our house does get pretty chilly)? |
2024.05.19 13:00 Flame_Princess-28 Am I helping or hurting my monstera?
I recently repotted and added a moss pole to my monstera because the leaves and stalks were sagging. This took place in late March. The two lower leaves are still sagging, and it hasn’t put out a new leaf in a while. I’m questioning if the pot is too big/small or if the moss pole is necessary. Or maybe I just need a new soil mix. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated! submitted by Flame_Princess-28 to Monstera [link] [comments] |
2024.05.19 12:36 123Travis321 Dahlia Problem
Hey all I just bought this dahlia and I noticed some leafs are turning yellow and brownish while others are like spotted and translucent. I’ve been diligent in watering and fertilizing but I haven’t repotted it yet and the pot is kinda small, they have packed I’d would say an 8x10 pot with three dahlias maybe that’s why. Any ideas what the problem could be? submitted by 123Travis321 to dahlias [link] [comments] |
2024.05.19 10:09 BigMommaGG69 Help! I think my citrus is dying 😢Severe dieback, sap production and bark cracking in a lime tree.
What could be causing these symptoms? How can I help my tree? submitted by BigMommaGG69 to GardeningAustralia [link] [comments] Background: WA based. I moved my 11yo lime tree in a pot to a new house around 5 months ago and had to hard prune it then in order to transport it. Around 2 months ago it started having severe branch die back (progressive branch death from the top down). It has bark cracking and lots of sap coming out from in between the main branches. I have pruned off the branches which died, hence the ugly middle cut. The tree has suffered lots of leaf miner and subsequent leaf curl. Prior to it becoming this bad, I tried Black Marvel Fruit & Citrus fertiliser and some iron chelate spray. At first I thought it may be a mineral deficiency or that I accidentally burned the roots with fertiliser before an unexpected hot spell, but I’m wondering if this is some kind of infection instead? Any advice appreciated. Previously it was a vigorous and healthy tree. Despite all of this there is still some new growth taking place. Its lemon tree cousin in the pot next door is doing fine. |
2024.05.19 07:15 I_will_not_remember_ What kind of plant is this and how do I make it better
I was given this plant years ago by my ex and I’ve been trying to kill it ever since. (I’ve never succeeded though and at this point have come to terms that it lives here now) submitted by I_will_not_remember_ to houseplants [link] [comments] Recently I repotted in a self watering pot that drained a lot better than its previous home. For the first time ever I think I made it mad (probably overwatered after repotting and gave it a yellow leaf with some brown crisping on a few others) I think it’s a dracaena of some kind but it’s super leggy. Maybe it should be? It’s got two baby leaves taking forever to grow out the top. I think I want to cut the top off and reroot and try to help it be…fuller and shorter? Any advice on how to care for would be much appreciated. -> New house plant mom |

2024.05.19 03:23 a_wa_a Should I be concerned?
Hi! White spots appeared on the leaves recently and I figured it was from the atmosphere or something but when I went to wipe the leaves they reappeared. I didn’t find much on Google. I noticed they aren’t on the younger leaf so I just wanted to check since o have pets and stuff. My cat won’t eat it but she may rub on it so I wanna know if it has disease or something. Thanks for any suggestions or answers. Also if anyone has any tips on how to avoid getting the damaged looking marks on it (or other care tips) that would great thank you! -I water it every few weeks and it is in a draining pot and it sits in the window but it’s been the rainy season submitted by a_wa_a to plantclinic [link] [comments] |

2024.05.19 01:28 Comprehensive-Path33 Trying to nurse back a Calathea Freddie to life!
Hello! Just got this plant on sale from my local plant store since it’s looks a little rough. I bought it as is so I am not sure how often it was watered. I think I know the basics like bright indirect light, extra humidity, keep the soil moist but not soaking wet. submitted by Comprehensive-Path33 to plantclinic [link] [comments] My questions is what potting soil should I use? I have general indoor potting mix. Would that work? I feel like I see mixed things what soil to use. Do I need to cut of the crispy brown parts of the leaves? Or does the whole leaf have to go? Or do I just the leaves as is? And the dead stems in the middle seem like they can just be removed, right? Thanks! |

2024.05.18 23:35 Silly_oops Does my orchid need more light?
Hi! Kinda new to orchids. I was gifted this orchid a year ago, the bloom has gone and I repotted it in orchid bark. It’s in a nursery pot with holes all on the sides for more air flow. I recently moved house over the winter and it dropped some of the older leaves. I wasn’t too concerned because new leaves were coming in. Now there are several leaves but they are all kinda small in comparison to the one older leaf left. I can see new root growth and they seem happy but I haven’t gone in the pot to see everything. I’m worried because the leaves are so small there isn’t much of an opportunity for them to get larger because there isn’t enough light? I have an Aloe outside facing in an east shade spot and was thinking if I should move it there in the meantime to help it get more light or if I should just let it be and be patient? submitted by Silly_oops to orchids [link] [comments] |
2024.05.18 21:57 Non-binary_Koi New tank
I've just bought a new tank for my giant african train millipede. Her current one is around 45cm, 25cm, 15cm which I knew would be temporary and the new one is 60cm, 30cm 30cm. submitted by Non-binary_Koi to millipedes [link] [comments] Im wondering what I can add to clutter the tank. There will be around 15 litres of substrate in there. And I have 2 coconut hides, a couple plant pots, food/water dish, tunnel and plastic skull. And obviously leaf litter on top. But would you suggest anything else to get? I can add a few plants, are spider plants, tradescantia and cress be suitable? If not let me know and others that are safe (im fine if she eats them) Any other tips are appreciated, I've owned her for 3 months so still quite new to keeping millipedes. |
2024.05.18 21:51 DanerysTargaryen Raspberry “Shortcake” plant yellowing leaves
Hi everyone! I bought this Raspberry “Shortcake” plant from Fast Growing Trees a few months ago. It woke up out of dormancy and was doing really well in pots. It got a bit root bound in its previous pot so I upgraded it to this slightly bigger pot and added fresh soil. submitted by DanerysTargaryen to gardening [link] [comments] Ever since then, it has been slightly declining in health. The leaves have been slowly turning yellow with an orange tinge on the edges and drying out/curling up and withering. I have read that raspberry plants like moist, but well draining soil. I have also read that raspberry plants like to be dry between waterings too, so I tried to walk a line somewhere in the middle of those two environments. I typically water it when the soil is pretty dry. I was worried that maybe I was underwatering it, so after I watered it, I waited ~3 days and gave it another good drink and I got more yellow leaves so now I think I might have been overwatering it. I live in northern California where it is very dry and warm outside. The soil it sits in is basically bone dry after a day or two. I have also applied a (berry loving/acidic) fertilizer to it once ~2 weeks ago and it didn’t seem to make a difference one way or another (didn’t improve, but didn’t get worse). Sometimes I see one or two little fly looking insects buzzing around it (picture 3), but no fungus gnats or any aphid-like insect that is causing leaf damage that I can see otherwise. |
2024.05.18 21:33 Main_Review6912 Moms Monstera
Hey there plant Doctors. Anybody know what’s going on with my moms Monstera? She mentioned having a red/orange powder building up on the underside of the leafs a while back. A few weeks later now and this has happened. I’ve never had this happen with my monsteras. Any ideas? (Kept in warm temps and humid air. Has indirect sunlight) She waters it when the soil feels dry and it is in a nursery pot so has great drainage. submitted by Main_Review6912 to plantclinic [link] [comments] |
2024.05.18 21:25 lo1xdimnoob Zone 6 Palm lover
Hello, I live in zone 6A in the northeast almost right on the border with 6B. Is there any suggestions for hardy palm planting? I have 2 potted windmills I keep inside but on nice days I put outside. They’re in 3 gallon pots and I usually water twice a week because the pots are large and hold lots of water quite well, I use palm citrus and cactus soil from miracle grow. I want to plant Sabal minor outside, I have a spot protected from wind and it’s facing the east but I also have a west facing spot but is vulnerable to wind. I would love to hear any the thoughts on planting these. I also plan to plant color guard yucca, eastern prickly pear, and musa Basjoo. I have 3 musa Basjoo I’ll put in the ground maybe in June along with the Sabal minor. My musa Basjoo are a bit over watered which makes me sad I’ll have to water less. I used to water every 3 days now I’ll water once a week until the really hot days. They’re in a south facing window in 6 in pots using standard potting mix. The trunk and a leaf have a brown spot on two of the plants submitted by lo1xdimnoob to palmtalk [link] [comments] |
2024.05.18 21:20 too_doo Puncakborneensis newbie
I wad not going to get any alocasias today. I got this alocasia today. Life is so unpredictable. It was $5 and home-grown, ok? submitted by too_doo to alocasia [link] [comments] I’ve never kept alocasias and any of the more tricky aroids before but hey it’s not that hard, is it? Jk. Please tell me if what I have planned for it is wrong or just could be better. Bright west-facing window, filtered to 75% light and 20% UVB, couple of feet away from the window. Some full-spectrum artificial lights (coloured smart lighting in the room including ceiling), but no grow lights. Light, I’m not too worried about. Ambient humidity is around 40% raised to 50% with a decent humidifier. I know. But hey plants adapt, don’t they? Don’t they? I mean I have ferns and calatheas thriving in that room, it can’t be that bad? Or is a terrarium my only option? What do we think about a cloche? I plan to transfer it to store-bought pon in a diy self-watering setup which I also have some experience with. Normally I would just wash the soil off from the roots and stick it in pon, but plants sometimes lose a leaf or two while transitioning, and, as you can see, we can’t afford that here. The soil it came in is a 3:1 soil to pon already. Should I just leave it be? Transfer to a bigger but still tiny pot in soil mixed with pon? Ugh. Sorry for this long rant! Appreciate your suggestions in advance. |
2024.05.18 21:16 Snoo-68130 NEED HELP! New to Monstera Albo
I am a complete novice when it comes to plants. And, I know, I probably shouldn't be working with an albino plant for my first try, but I got a pretty good deal on something that l immediately fell in love with, and really just purchased it for the aesthetic, and later realized it's rarity. I've been constantly researching on the plant since I bought it. I Purchased this albo 2 days ago. It is in moss and perlite I believe. The seller said not to repot until the roots grow through the bottom or when you see the roots start to collect on the sides of the pot. submitted by Snoo-68130 to Monstera [link] [comments] It had condensation on the sides of the plastic pot when I bought it, so I didn't water it right away as I was told that it's better to be on the dry side. I had it close to (practically in) a north facing window for the two days. See pics for light source. I noticed yesterday that one of the white spots on the half moon styled leaf had more brown on it. My humidity level in my room ranges between 65-70% as I have a humidifier. Room temp stays around 68-75°. Last night I noticed the moss was extremely dry, so l watered it with warm water from my faucet (city water) and then let it drain out completely, it also has drainage holes. I woke up this morning and noticed the end of the leaves starting to bend and a couple of droplets on the leafs. I did read that "guttation" is normal. I then took it outside for about two hours in the complete shade, indirect sun, hoping it would soak up some more water due to synthesizing. It's 80° and sunny here in Michigan, humid too. TLDR: I just bought an albo and since then, the leaves are starting are slightly wilting and white parts are browning. Is there anything more I can do to help this plant? Am I doing too much? Should I leave it inside or let it outside in the shade sometimes? Did I possibly overwater or did I wait too long to water it? So many novice questions, I apologize in advance. I'm just so nervous I am going to kill this precious little thing. Any advice you could give, I would be super grateful. |

2024.05.18 20:56 cocolimenuts I grew this Monstera from a single stem…
My friend was selling propagations and accidentally broke the leave off of the stem of one she was selling, so she just gave it to me for free. That was 4-5 years ago. submitted by cocolimenuts to houseplants [link] [comments] It took about 6 months for the stem to grow a legit root system in water, then I planted her. Another year (year and a half?) for her first fenestrated leaf. I just repotted her about 2 months ago because she was getting too big for the pot, and I need to legit bury that moss pole in a deeper pot. She’s currently outside and just covered her with gravel because i just realized she’s the source of my gnat problem…I hope those little fuckers die a slow suffocating death. She usually lives in a southwest facing window. I realized when I set her out how far she’s come. And I’m proud. |
2024.05.18 20:37 Joshvideo Leaves yellowing and dropping after repotting
My fiddle leaf fig was thriving in a small pot, and after I repotted it the leaves started slowly turning yellow at the bottom and falling off one by one. It's been about 2 months and they are still slowly yellowing. The upper leaves texture changed from soft and leathery to hard a paper-like, and have also shrunk in size. Any advice? The pot has drainage yes, and the soil seems to be a bit damp deeper down, even though I haven't watered it in a while. See pictures of 2 yellowing leaves and one shrinking below.
