2024.05.29 04:26 Professional-Lake582 How can I trickle charge AEG/Rigdig batteries?
As the title suggests; I'm trying to find a method to trickle charge AEG batteries. This is relevant to me because I often use them while travelling, in places where I don't have access to power sockets or a vehicle. It's impractical to carry a large enough solar panel, mppt etc. to power an inverter.
The solution I tried so far was in order of current flow:
Small solar panel with USB output. 3w USB 5vDC to 1-24vDC voltage converter set to 20.8v. AEG charger. AEG battery.
In this configuration the AEG charger's lights turn on and stay on. The batteries lights begin to blink as is normal while charging. And then they turn off. Doing this repeatedly or for a sustained amount of time does not increase the voltage of the battery.
I also tried skipping the AEG charger, and plugging the USB device directly into the battery's positive and negative terminals. The batteries lights do not blink.
I am worried that the battery's BMS prevents trickle charging. Is there a way to test this safely?

2024.05.29 04:09 JuggernautKey842 I want to connect plc and dc motor driver, can I buy analog module?
I use LS electric plc and if I want to drive a 5V dc motor, should I buy an analog module and connect it with the motor driver? The motor drive model name is L9110s.
I have a digital output module called XGQ-RY2B, but can't I connect with it?

2024.05.29 03:21 capnsue- Dog agility classes / trainers (for.a dog that's nervous around other dogs)
Can anyone reccomend any dog agility classes or trainers that don't require a big group class at first? My little (12 lbs, mixed breed, rescue) guy is making really good progress with being calmer around unfamiliar dogs but i think it would be too stressful to introduce him to a whole bunch of dogs at once. I am totally new to agility and don't even really know where to start! My trainer mostly works with big dogs down towards DC so she didn't have any reccs right of the bat -- i live in NE baltimore so something towards that direction would be amazing although i'm open to travelling farther afield if need be! Thank you!!!

2024.05.29 02:11 Actual_Somewhere_115 rejected from georgetown, might try to appeal
So I was just rejected from Georgetown for both fall '24 and spring '25, and am extremely sad about it. I've heard that people have had some success in appealing decisions, but I don't really know anything about it. I think the reason/main reason I was rejected was for having a bad hs GPA (3.6 W with 12 APs and 7 honors, with extreme decline). I had a 3.94 college GPA when applying, had pretty good essays and a good alumni interview (imo), decent extras but nothing crazy for both college and hs, chose not to he considered for aid, upper middle class income, from the DC area, and am in the honors business program at my small liberal arts school with a t40 business program (on P&Q). The reason I want to appeal is because I got a 4.0 this semester, bringing my overall gpa to a 3.97 with 37 credits in college and 12 from APs. I am thinking of appealing for spring '25 since might have a better chance, or might ask for opportunity to be waitlisted. Any advice is appreciated.

| This is a member inspired shave that I’m glad I found. I wanted a pure, clean, strong mint summer shave…and I think I found a winner. - WEISHI Nostalgia razor
- Personna Platinum (USA) blade
- Cremo Refreshing Mint Shaving Cream (pre-shave)
- TOBS Peppermint Shaving Cream
- Cheap 2/$12 synthetic brush
- Gentleman Jon Alum Block
- Cremo Refreshing Mint Aftershave Balm
I wasted enough shaving cream for about 4 full shaves (3 pass) for this post, lol. Like other ToBS shaving creams, a little goes a very long way. Cremo is a perfect pre-shave conditioner for me. I don’t even shave with it. I use Cremo for 100% pre-shave. The ToBS Peppermint scent is just as strong as the Cremo Refreshing Mint, and I really like that. I wanted a strong cool mint shave, and this is it. This refreshing clean mint shave just made my weekly summer shave rotation. 5 star shave. submitted by Acrobatic-Building29 to wicked_edge [link] [comments] |
2024.05.29 01:57 jenx1717 What are best sub-effects on ancestral Dimension Core for tournaments?
I currently have
- ancestral +3 Death Wave quantity
- ancestral +4000% Chain Lightning damage
- mythic +12% Chain Lightning chance
- epic +4m Black Hole size
I don't have SM, ILM, or PS. DW is 120 second cooldown
I have heavy investment in health/max R & wall/fort; level 13 wall thorns.
For tournaments, I also use
- 3-star ancestral Death Penalty (atk speed, crit mods)
- 5-star ancestral Wormhole Redirector (wall, regen, def%)
- 1-star ancestral Galaxy Compressor (max R, EALS, package chance)
If there are no armoured enemies in the tournament, I max 7x DW. With armoured enemies I don't get much.
I always place top 10 in Champion these days, best is 3rd. I reach about 1700-2000 waves.
I'm not sure how important the +3 DW quantity is to my tournament success, nor the CL damage mod.
I have 200k reroll shards and I suspect my DC sub-effects are not optimal, so I would appreciate some advice from experienced players.

Viper preferred but can play Dragoon looking to take my raiding to the next level with a semi-Hardcore static for Dawntrail. I'm hoping to do some hardcore(12+ hours a day) week 1 progression and then raid 2-4 days a week preferably. I'd like to clear and finish farming within 2-3 months and prog Eden Ultimate when it comes out. After week 1 I am not available Fridays and Saturdays. I can play whatever times Sunday - Thursday until September 28th when the Fall Term starts. Afterwards I am available after 7pm till at least 11pm PST. (How late I can stay up will vary depending on class times.) I would like to prog DSTOP/UCOB/TEA in downtime.
Currently up to Jwaves in TEA with my current static.
I would love to do TEA for a trial as I am pretty confident as Melee 1 up to Jwaves. We could probably clear during the trial.
I am willing to DC travel wherever.

2024.05.29 01:01 Substantial-Suit-597 Electric motors simulate elevator.
Hi guys, I’m building part of an escape room that is an elevator. I was planning to use airbags but I just learned the hotel it’s going to first won’t allow a compressor - not even an enclosed quiet one. So I need an electrical solution to raise and lower at least 1250 pounds fairly quickly to simulate an elevator. The air springs would have given about 4” of total travel, but a little more would be fantastic. I looked at linear servos but I’m seeing $2k-$3.5k EACH and I’ll need at least 4. Can someone help me with a solution where I can build the whole thing for less than that? I’ve used 1.5hp motors on a VFD to rock a “train car” side to side at different speeds, so I’m sure I can handle this. But I need help with the right setup - I’m not an engineer. Would servo motors in each corner work? Maybe on a small belt drive to increase torque? I’d like to keep it 72v dc or less if possible. Easily sourced parts are best, but I can weld the platform and fabricate and brackets and such. Thanks for any help!!!

2024.05.29 00:57 Shadowfax_096 The Vitae Compendium
The Vitae Compendium
Wondrous Item (Tome), Very Rare (Requires Attunement) The Vitae Compendium, an ancient and ominous tome, is bound in dark leather, its pages stained with the lifeblood of those who have delved into its secrets. This book is a repository of Sangromancy, an esoteric and seldom-practiced school of magic that manipulates the very essence of life force. To possess and study from The Vitae Compendium is to tread a path marked by both unparalleled power and significant sacrifice.
Appearance: The cover of The Vitae Compendium is adorned with intricate, blood-red runes that seem to pulse faintly in rhythm with the reader’s heartbeat. Its pages, made from an unknown, resilient parchment, are filled with archaic symbols and detailed illustrations depicting the flow of blood and energy through various creatures. A palpable aura of power and foreboding surrounds the book, making it clear that this is no ordinary grimoire.
Attunement: To attune to The Vitae Compendium, a potential user must spend a long rest in focused study of its contents. During this time, the book's magic bonds with the reader, granting them access to its potent yet dangerous knowledge. This process is not without risk; the reader must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 15) at the end of the long rest. On a failure, they suffer one level of exhaustion due to the taxing nature of the initial bonding process.
Sangromancy Initiate: Once attuned, the wielder of The Vitae Compendium gains the Sangromancy Initiate feat, which allows them to cast spells from the unique school of Sangromancy. This dark art demands both knowledge and sacrifice, requiring the user to expend their own vitality to fuel their magic. The Compendium grants access to a unique pool of Spell Points, which are used in place of traditional spell slots to cast Sangromancy spells.
Spellcasting: - Sanguine Font: The Compendium allows the user to choose their spellcasting modifier from any of the six ability scores: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma. This choice is permanent and cannot be changed once made.
- Spell Points: The user gains a pool of Spell Points as they progress in their study of Sangromancy, as detailed in the Spell Points by Level table. These points are used to create spell slots for casting spells.
- Higher-Level Casting: To cast spells of 6th level or higher, the user must sacrifice hit dice and hit points, and succeed on a Sanguine check to avoid a backlash. This high-level casting reflects the immense power and danger of Sangromancy.
Blood Bond: The Compendium grants a small pool of d12 dice, known as Blood Bond dice, which the user can use to cast Sangromancy spells without sacrificing their own hit dice. This pool replenishes after a long rest and may increase with a deeper bond to the Compendium.
Danger and Power: The Vitae Compendium offers great power but demands significant sacrifices. It is a tool for those willing to walk the fine line between life and death, wielding the very essence of blood to achieve their ends. Other magic users may view the Sangromancer with suspicion or outright hostility, but none can deny the formidable potency of their art.
Cursed Nature: While not inherently evil, the Compendium's power comes with inherent risks. Extended use of its abilities can lead to physical and mental exhaustion, and failure to control its power can result in severe backlash, including necrotic damage, levels of exhaustion, and unpredictable arcane repercussions.
The Vitae Compendium is not merely a book but a pact, a commitment to mastering one of the most dangerous and powerful schools of magic known to the world. To hold it is to embrace both its gifts and its costs, a balance only the truly daring or desperate are willing to accept.
Sangromancy Initiate
- Sanguine Font Your pact with The Vitae Compendium has granted you access to magic long forgotten: Sangromancy. See Spell Rules for general rules of spellcasting and the Spells Listing for the Sangromancy spell list. Your spellcasting modifier can one be any of the six ability scores: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma. Choose this spellcasting modifier when you take this feat. This cannot be change in any way after that decision.
- Cantrips You know no cantrips nor can you learn any.
- Spell Points The school of Sangromancy is old and arcane requiring a different method of casting. Spell slots are not use for casting Sangromancy spells. Rather Spell Points are used instead. You gain a pool of spell points as you progress in your study of Sangromancy. To cast a Sangromancy spell you must expend a number of Spell Points to create a spell slot of the spell's level, and then use that slot to cast the spell. You can't reduce your spell points total to less than 0, and you regain all spent spell points when you finish a long rest. Spells of 6th level and higher are particularly taxing to cast. You can use spell points to create one slot of each level of 6th or higher. You can't create another slot of the same level until you finish a long rest. The number of spell points you have to spend is based on your character level and knowledge of The Vitae Compendium as shown in the Spell Points by Level table. You level also determines the maximum-level spell slot you can create. Even though you might have enough points to create a slot above this maximum, you can't do so unless provided by the section Casting Higher than 5th Level.
- Casting Higher than 5th Level
- Blood Bond: You gain a pool of 2d8 dice that you can use to cast Sangromancy spells instead of your hit dice. This pool replenishes after a long rest. This die may be increase at the given a sufficient relationship with The Vitae Compendium

2024.05.28 23:01 SachikoHeart3 [REVIEW] Chanel Mini Top Handle: 187 King, TS Heidi
Author Expertise I have been lurking on the old RL group (rip) for years and have made purchases in the past with Anna and Linda via WeChat, however I’ve always wanted to try Heidi for Chanel. After a few great and not so great reps, I’ve decided to up my game and take the plunge on a 187 King bag from Heidi. I am no Chanel expert however I am pretty much OCD when it comes to details. I work in luxury fashion so everything needs to be as perfect as possible. I would cry if ever I was called out for a rep from someone in the industry (though usually they’d just talk about you behind your back anyway haha). There are some incredible ladies on here with much more in-depth knowledge on all of this than myself however I did do as much homework as possible before diving in 🙂
Disclosure 1 You will notice my profile is recent which may feel like I am contradicting my
“I was lurking for years” comment. However, I was such a newbie at the time that I created my previous profile with my IG name LOL. Thus, I had to create another profile especially as I had finally mustered up the courage to engage with the rest of you and was ready to contribute!
Disclosure 2 Heidi is now aware that I am writing a review as I told her I am so incredibly happy with the bag (also apologized for stressing out for 3 weeks; the tracking never updated!!!) The review is NOT incentivized. I purchased the bag prior to disclosing with her that I would write a review so I was not offered any discount in exchange for my purchase or review. I let her know how happy I was and she is very grateful for the review as her business was impacted by the more recent than not fake Heidi profiles. After I let her know I was going to share my great experience with everyone, she then offered $20 off my next order which is kind of her!
Seller: Heidi
Contact: WeChat Heidi-hiddencloset
Note, this is the contact I had of hers since the old RL group. I made sure to add every seller I was interested in at the time on WeChat. Bag: Chanel Mini Top Handle, Lambskin, LGHW
Factory: 187 King
Price: $480 USD
Shipping Cost: $40 USD
Payment Method: PPFF @ 5% discount
Timeline: 5/5 - Contacted Heidi via WeChat about the bag
5/5 - She responded with pricing + photos
5/5 - Paid $100 USD deposit via PPFF
5/6 - She replied thanking me for payment and let me know she’ll send PSP when ready
5/6 - Received an email for my login to her website with a request to set my password so I did (you’re able to see your order + status on there which was cool)
5/7 - Received an email notification that my item did not arrive at the office yet
5/10 - Received an email notification that my item has arrived at the office
5/11 - Heidi sent me PSPs which were stunning
5/11 - I GL the PSPs
5/11 - She refunds me the deposit and tells me to send the payment to a different PPFF email which I did
(admittedly, I was nervous about this as I found it strange that its going to another email address but it worked out in the end!) 5/13 - Received an email notification that my item is shipped and to wait for the tracking number
5/14 - Heidi told me to wait 1-2 days for the tracking number
5/15 - Received an email notification of my tracking number for FedEx and to track it on the 17Track App
between 5/15 to 5/28 I was in complete distress as tracking did not update until 5/27. I will spare the full details however Heidi was telling me “wait update is ok” meanwhile nothing was moving. I thought - was I scammed? But surely not, this is the contact I had for years and via WeChat! And the scam (based on what I read) was on Whatsapp. S/O to everyone who reassured me and those who stressed with me via DMs but after many anxious nights my tracking finallyyyy updated!! 5/27 - Tracking number via 17Track App updated and blew through countries
5/28 - My bag arrived packaged beautifully and in pristine condition!
Factory Photos PSPs My Photos Packaging Quality: 10/10 The
stitching/thread on the bag aligns with what I’ve read on WL + RL in terms of stitch count + it blending into the bag. It does not feel too “heavy” or “thick”. It lines up perfectly across the front, back and underneath the bag. It is the correct colour and alignment as the auth.
The
leather is stunning. It is smooth and buttery. It feels exactly like my bff’s auth and the auth bags I have felt + examined in the Chanel boutiques around the world. Heidi did let me know that 187 King uses the same leather as Chanel which explains why it feels lovely! Based on feeling the bag, you could never tell it was a rep.
The
smell smells like authentic leather, no fufu smell! It smells great if you are leather obsessed and know what it should smell like! I purchased another bag from another seller and the bag did not smell like fufu but it smelled really strong - almost like the leather was… toooo leathery? I don’t know how to explain but it is still airing out -__- This bag smells divine!
The
chain/strap feels weighted. It does not feel light and flimsy like other reps I have. I find besides the CC logo and leather, a dead giveaway is the weight to the chain strap. This one feels weighted, it feels heavy, it feels REAL! And the sound of the chain when you manoeuvre it is dainty, luxurious. Ugh, I just love this bag.
The
hardware is LGHW which I felt was the safest choice as I was a bit worried about the gold coming off as too yellow. I absolutely LOVE the LGHW. I found an auth on Madison Avenue Couture and the hardware is identical. It really comes across as light gold - not silver or gold.
Accuracy: 9/10 Based on my bio in the Author Expertise section of this review, I would say, to me, this bag is 10/10! But since I don’t have an auth of the same style IRL to compare it to, I can’t give it a perfect score. I’ve cross referenced photos on Vestiaire Collective, Luxe Du Jour, The Real Real, Fashionphile and photos I took of one for sale at a local consignment shop. To be honest, this one feels ever better than the auth I was looking at in the shop! The measurements are accurate @ 12x20x6 CM and the shape is pretty much spot on with the auth. From what I recall of the chain, it feels the same as the auth as well!
Speaking of accuracy, the bag came with full packaging. We’re talking box, tissue, dust bag, ribbon - the works! The Chanel box was packaged with edge protectors to protect the box from being damaged which spoke to Heidi’s attention to details. It truly felt like the real deal Chanel unboxing. It was just me and my pup home at the time and I was jumping with excitement. Pup probably thought I was losing it but I mean, I just hit the jackpot with this bag and the unboxing was Youtube worthy!!
Rep Satisfaction: 10/10 Maybe I am jumping the gun here but I am almost 99% certain I’d be confident enough to wear this to the Chanel boutique. I definitely will be wearing this confidently around my friends in the fashion industry. I LOVE my bag! And I am so happy that I did not have to break the bank for it. I love fashion, I love shopping but these bag prices are insane and given that I want almost everything along with a beautiful home and a vacation house, I had to give something up 🙂
Seller Satisfaction: 10/10 So, I will say that I was sceptical about Heidi given some of the recent reviews. However, I can only speak to my experience with her and besides me stressing out due to the tracking # not updating for weeks and the horrifying reviews lingering in my head about buyers being scammed, she was in fact great! Heidi can be short and direct with her replies but she delivered a beautiful bag and exactly the quality + accuracy I had dreamed of when wanting to purchase from her! At one point, someone from her team must have been managing the WeChat convo as she was a bit more detailed and let me know that my bag is on the way, China is strict with tracking, apologized if I feel worried, let me know that it will arrive soon and to reach out if I have any other questions. That really helped ease my mind! So I was appreciative of this type of reply! All in all, I am 10000% purchasing from Heidi again (like, tomorrow haha).
Things I have learned that can be helpful for other newbies: 1. Remember that there is a language barrier here and different ways of communicating. I am someone that looks for communication and reassurance and that may not be what we’ll find buying from some of these sellers. So I have opted for honesty and prompt (give or take 12 hrs) replies which is what I found in my communication with Heidi.
2. Trust the process. If you’ve done your due diligence and did not go into a purchase blindly, please just trust the process. It will save you (and your TS) so much stress! I was freaking out about my tracking # and once it finally updated, it literally flew to my front door. Heidi kept telling me to wait, all is okay but I was just worried throughout the journey. However, had I just trusted the process and trusted that I’ve done all the homework on what to buy + from who, I could’ve probably slept a lot better!
3. Reach out to other buyers in the community for some helpful feedback. I spoke to about 3-4 other incredible ladies that either were experiencing the same tracking # delays as me or have recently purchased with Heidi and were happy with their bags! This also made me feel comfortable about my purchase. So thank you!!
4. Share your reviews! Don’t lurk forever like I did. The reviews are so helpful and help guide other buyers on the do’s and don'ts, who to trust and who to steer away from. While everyone’s experience is unique to them, I think it’s important to continue to share our reviews to help each other out! Don’t be shy, like I was. TBH, no one knows who we are anyway 🤣
The Wrap Up: If you’re on the fence about taking the plunge and buying from Heidi like I was, I am happy to say, my experience was great! I hope yours will be too. I adore my bag, I cannot wait to wear it and I am already scouring the internet for inspo on what I want to buy next from Heidi.
Happy shopping!!! submitted by

Everything I’ve read says that voltage should be 12-20, but when I set amps where I need them (0.02 per sq in surface area of part being anodized) the voltage is really low, 3-9VDC. Do I need to add more resistance, or do I need a different Power Supply, this one is up to 30VDV and 10A. I’ve tried different combinations of cathodes (all are recently etched hard in 10% Sodium Hydroxide), different size conductors on the cathodes and anodes, doing less parts, less solution (20% lab grade Sulfuric in DI @ 70F, 0-1pH). Using 18ga Titanium wire for anode conductor and it is tight to the pieces being anodized. Really appreciate any help and a recommendation on a different DC power supply if that’s what’s needed. Typically parts will be around 100 sq in of surface area total. submitted by jdockpnw777 to Anodization [link] [comments] |
2024.05.28 21:55 rubenalamina The Division 2 Weekly Vendor Reset 28/05/2024
Hi there fellow agents. Here's the latest vendor reset information for The Division 2.
Notes
Nothing worth mentioning from our end this week.
See you next Tuesday.
Items on Sale
Here's the web page link for all the items available in the game. It will always be the same link. It's my personal website and I don't run any kind of ads.
https://rubenalamina.mx/the-division-weekly-vendor-reset/
I added a resources section with a map with 30+ locations to find the Snitch and a link to the datamined gear attribute sheet.
Cassie
Cassie is a gunrunner vendor that moves location every couple of days. To find her, you need to talk to Jared "The Snitch" Nash in one of the locations I have listed on my map. His location is random but it usually takes 2 or 3 location visits for him to spawn. After you talk to him, he will give you a bounty and Cassie will appear on your map with a shopping cart icon. You can do the bounty or save it for later, it's not necessary to browse Cassie's inventory.
She will open for 24 hours and will close to relocate for 32 hours. These are her open times:
- Sunday 8:00 PM EDT
- Wednesday 4:00 AM EDT
- Friday 12:00 PM EDT
Besides her random stock, Cassie will always sell two named items: the Shield Splinterer assault rifle and the Hunter-Killer chest. In order to see these two items, you need to have opened the ivory chest at the White House and the Off-white chest at Haven. You get keys for these chest by killing the hunters in DC and NYC.
Resources
Timers Website
A couple of members of The Division Community Discord made a site that shows all the in game timers in your local time zone. It also has the open and close timers for Cassie so you can use it to check if she's open or not before you go find the snitch. The site can be accessed here: https://divisiontimers.com
Wiki Page
The link for the current weekly thread and the vendor items list is always available in the Vendor Reset Page in the community resources. You can find it in the top navigation menu of the subreddit. If you're on mobile, it will be on the sidebar.
The Division 1 Reset
Some of the guys and girls in the vendors team are trying to keep The Division 1 vendor resets alive. The sheet will be automatically updated when they are done, even if they haven't posted their weekly thread. I will add an edit with the link to their weekly thread when they are ready. These reset happen on Friday nights at 7pm EST.
Credits
The resets are brought to you by a dedicated team of fellow agents from this subreddit and The Division Community Discord. Thanks to u/DizNootz, u/Google-1234, u/Hurinzor, u/Duke_Shambles. u/Insecurity_exe and other volunteer agents who have been constantly helping. Thanks to u/BestNadeThrower for starting the sheet we are using for The Division 2.

2024.05.28 21:20 jenniferlouise92 HPV FAQ
This information was originally posted on the Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust Website, and their references are cited at the bottom of this post.
What is HPV? HPV is the name of a common virus. It infects the skin and any moist membrane (mucosa). This includes the:
- cervix
- vagina
- vulva
- anus (back passage)
- lining of your mouth and throat.
Most people will get HPV at some point in their lives. They often won’t even know they have it — it usually goes away without causing any problems.
Who can get HPV? If you have ever had any sexual contact, you may have HPV. It is passed on through skin-to-skin contact. For HPV that affects the genitals, this includes vaginal, anal and oral sex. You can also get HPV through touching in the genital area and sharing sex toys.
Are there different types of HPV? Yes — there are over 200 types. Some can be called ‘low-risk’ or ‘high-risk’ HPV depending on whether they are linked to cancer.
Low-risk HPV may not cause any problems. They sometimes lead to warts on your hands, feet or genitals.
14 types of HPV are called ‘high-risk’. These are the ones linked to cancer. The high-risk types of HPV are 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68.
High-risk HPV types 16 and 18 cause over 7 in 10 of all cervical cancers. In most people, HPV goes away within 2 years without causing any problems.
Will I get cancer if I have HPV? Although most cervical cancer is caused by high-risk HPV, having the virus does not mean you will get cell changes or cancer. About 9 in 10 people get rid of HPV within 2 years, without it causing any problems. This includes high-risk HPV types.
If you are eligible, cervical screening and the HPV vaccine can help reduce your risk of developing cell changes or cervical cancer.
Is it true that HPV can stay in my body for a long time without me knowing? Yes. Usually, your immune system gets rid of HPV within 2 years. But in some cases, HPV may stay in your body for longer.
Sometimes HPV does not cause any harm and will not be picked up by a test. We call this ‘dormant’ or ‘clinically insignificant’ HPV.
Occasionally, dormant HPV can become active again and may start to cause cervical cell changes. HPV that has become active would be detected with a test.
We don’t know exactly why this happens yet, but it may be because of changes in your immune system over time. It is important to remember that cervical screening (previously called a ‘smear test’) can help find HPV and any cell changes early.
Is sexual contact the only way of getting HPV? We are still learning a lot about HPV. Some evidence suggests it may also be passed on during childbirth. However, the risk of this is low. Studies show that when babies do get HPV, their bodies usually clear it within 2 years.
There are reports of some babies who have HPV in their throat getting something called ‘recurrent respiratory papillomatosis’ or ‘RRP’. This is where warts appear in their airways, and this may make breathing difficult.
RRP is rare and can be treated. It has become even more rare now that HPV vaccination is available.
We understand that the thought of passing on HPV in this way may be worrying. But it is important to know that evidence suggests it is unlikely. If you have concerns, it may help to talk them through with your GP or midwife.
Can I get the same type of HPV more than once? It might be possible for this to happen. This is because different people can have different levels of natural immunity to HPV.
Natural immunity is where your immune system remembers a virus from when you had it naturally in the past. It means if you get that virus again, your body can destroy it quickly before it causes any problems.
Some of us have low natural immunity to HPV, so it might be possible for you to get the same HPV type more than once.
Cervical screening helps to find HPV early. The HPV vaccine protects against the HPV types that cause 7 in 10 cervical cancers. Immunity from the vaccine is stronger than natural immunity.
As I get older, will I be less able to get rid of HPV? Studies show it may be harder to clear HPV as you get older. Scientists also think other things could affect how likely you are to get rid of HPV. It might be affected by your immune system — some people’s bodies find it easier to fight HPV than others. It could also depend on the HPV type you have and whether you smoke. Smoking is thought to make you less likely to clear an infection.
It is important to remember that cervical screening (previously called a ‘smear test’) will help find HPV and cell changes early.
Can HPV be treated? There is no treatment for HPV itself. But there are treatments for conditions caused by HPV, including genital warts, cervical cell changes and cancer.
Is there a test for HPV? There are certain HPV tests in the UK for women and people with a cervix. These are done as part of the NHS cervical screening programme.
Can I ask for an HPV test at any time? HPV tests are only available free as part of the NHS cervical screening programme. Women and people with a cervix that are 25–64 years old are invited for cervical screening.
In England and Northern Ireland, you are invited for cervical screening every 3 or 5 years, depending on your age. In Scotland and Wales, you are invited every 5 years — it does not matter how old you are.
If I have HPV, can I ask for my partner to have a test too? HPV tests are only available for free when invited as part of the NHS cervical screening programme. Women and people with a cervix that are 25–64 years old are invited for cervical screening. There is no HPV test for men or people without a cervix available on the NHS.
Can men have a test for HPV? There is currently no HPV test for men or people without a cervix available on the NHS.
HPV tests are available privately for a cost.
Is HPV the same virus that causes genital warts and cervical cancer? Yes — but the types of HPV that cause genital warts and the ones that cause cervical cancer are different.
HPV types that cause genital warts are called ‘low-risk’. Those that can cause cervical cancer are called ‘high-risk’. Having genital warts does not mean you are more likely to get cancer.
HPV 6 and 11 are the most common low-risk types that can infect the genitals. They cause around 9 in 10 cases of genital warts. High-risk HPV types 16 and 18 cause more than 7 in 10 cervical cancers. The HPV vaccines used by the NHS include protection for these HPV types.
If I have genital warts, or have had them before, am I more likely to get cervical cancer? No — genital warts do not cause cancer. The HPV types that cause genital warts are called ‘low-risk’ because they are not thought to be linked to cervical cancer. Most cervical cancer is caused by other types of HPV, called ‘high-risk’ HPV.
Does the HPV vaccine protect against genital warts? The HPV vaccines given in schools and privately protects against HPV 6 and 11. These cause about 9 in 10 cases of genital warts.
Can I completely protect against genital warts? Genital warts are caused by HPV. You can’t fully protect against HPV because it lives on the skin. But there are some ways to reduce your risk of getting it, including:
- getting the HPV vaccine — it protects against 9 in 10 cases of genital warts
- having safe sex using a condom or dental dam (a thin plastic square used to cover the anus or vagina during oral sex). However, these don’t fully protect you, as they only cover part of the genital area.
Do all HPV types cause cervical cancer? No — most HPV types do not cause problems. Some cause warts on the hands, feet or genitals.
14 HPV types have been linked to cancer. These types are called 'high-risk' HPV. High-risk HPV can cause cancer of the cervix, vagina, anus, vulva, penis, and some head and neck cancers.
The high-risk HPV types are 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68. Types 16 and 18 cause over 7 in 10 of all cervical cancers.
If HPV is so common, why don’t more of us get cervical cancer? Your immune system usually gets rid of HPV by itself. For 9 in 10 of us, this happens within 2 years.
Sometimes, HPV will remain in your body and it might cause cells to change. Changed cells may turn into cervical cancer over time if they persist and are not monitored or treated.
Cervical screening (previously called a ‘smear test’) can find HPV and changed cells early. Most cell changes can be treated and will not develop into cervical cancer.
For a small number of women and people with a cervix, cell changes happen very quickly between cervical screening appointments. Sometimes, cell changes are not found by cervical screening, but this is rare.
If I’ve had cell changes or cervical cancer caused by high-risk HPV, can I get HPV again? It might be possible for you to get HPV again. This may be the same HPV type your body had before. But you could get a type you have not had. If you have had one type of HPV, it is less likely you will be infected with that type again.
Sometimes when your body gets rid of a virus, it can remember it too. This means that if you get that virus again, your immune system can destroy it quickly before it causes any problems. When you are infected with a virus naturally and your body remembers it, this is called ‘natural immunity’.
Because we are all different, some people have lower natural immunity to HPV than others. We are also unsure how much natural immunity to one HPV type might protect you from another type. This means it may be possible for you to get the same HPV type again, or a type which you haven’t had before.
In the past, I had cervical cell changes that went away by themselves. Does this mean my immune system is now strong enough to fight HPV on its own? It might be possible for you to get HPV again — it could be an HPV type your body has cleared before, or a new type.
Scientists think lots of things might affect how your body fights HPV. Some studies show it may be harder for you to get rid of HPV as you get older. Scientists also think it is affected by your natural immunity.
Natural immunity is where your body remembers a virus from when you had it naturally in the past. If you get that virus again, your immune system can destroy it quickly before it causes any problems.
Levels of natural immunity can be different from person to person — so natural immunity to HPV is low for some of us. This means you might be able to get an HPV type you’ve had before.
It is also unclear how much natural immunity to one type of HPV protects against other types. Evidence suggests that some types are harder than others for your body to get rid of.
If I have, or had, cervical cell changes, am I at risk of getting an HPV-related cancer? There is a higher risk of developing an HPV-related cancer if you have cell changes in your cervix. This is also the case if you have had them in the past. The level of risk depends on how much the cells have, or had, changed compared to normal cells. This can be called the ‘grade’ of cell changes.
Low-grade changes rarely turn into cancer. Most cases clear up by themselves. High-grade changes are more likely to turn into cancer than low-grade changes.
It is important to remember that cell changes are not cancer. If you have them, or have had them before, it does not mean you will get cancer. It just means you are at more risk of getting cancer compared to someone who doesn’t have cell changes.
If I have, or had, cervical cancer, am I at risk of getting another HPV-related cancer? If you have, or have had, cervical cancer, there is a higher risk of getting another cancer linked to high-risk HPV. There is not much evidence on how big this risk is.
Does having HPV mean my partner has been unfaithful? No, this does not mean your partner has been unfaithful. It is hard to know who you got HPV from, or when. This is because HPV can be ‘dormant’ or ‘clinically insignificant’. This means it can be in your body for a long time without causing any problems or being picked up by a test. It might become active later and then found with a test, even if you’ve been with a partner for many years.
If my partner or I have HPV, will we keep passing it between each other? It may be possible for two people in a monogamous relationship to both have the same type of HPV for a long time. However, this does not mean that it will cause symptoms or problems.
It also does not mean that you or your partner will have cell changes or get cancer. It might help to remember that nearly all people who have had sexual contact will get HPV at some point in their life.
Reinfection might happen within couples because different people can have different levels of natural immunity to HPV. Natural immunity is when your body remembers a virus from when you got it naturally in the past. If you get that virus again, your body can destroy it before it causes problems.
Studies show natural immunity to HPV can be low for some of us. This means that reinfection might happen within couples.
Although they don’t fully protect against HPV, condoms and dental dams (thin plastic square used to cover the anus or vagina during oral sex) can reduce your risk of HPV infection. Evidence suggests the HPV vaccine also protects you from HPV reinfection.
I am LGBTQ+. Am I at risk of getting HPV? Anyone who has ever had any sexual contact can get HPV. Sexual contact includes:
- vaginal sex
- anal sex
- oral sex
- touching in the genital area
- sharing sex toys.
I’ve only had sex with one person. Will I still get HPV? It is possible to get HPV if you have only had sexual contact with one person. Sexual contact includes:
- vaginal sex
- anal sex
- oral sex
- touching in the genital area
- sharing sex toys.
This is because your partner may have had more than one sexual contact. HPV is a common virus and is spread by skin-to-skin contact. 8 in 10 of us will have HPV at some point in our lives. The highest rates of HPV are in sexually active people up to the age of 25. But you can get HPV at any age.
Having HPV isn’t a sign that someone has had sexual contact with a lot of people. It also doesn’t mean someone has been unfaithful to a partner.
The risk of getting HPV increases with the number of sexual partners someone has, or the number of sexual partners their partner has had. But that is just because there is a higher chance of being exposed to HPV.
I’m sexually active but don’t currently have penetrative sex. Can I still get HPV? Yes, you could still get HPV. This is because it is passed is on through skin-to-skin contact. This means you can get it without having penetrative sex. You can get it through oral sex, touching in the genital area and sharing sex toys.
Am I still at risk of getting HPV if I have a new sexual partner but use contraception? Using barrier protection helps reduce your chance of getting HPV. This includes using:
- condoms
- dental dams (a thin plastic square used to cover the anus or vagina during oral sex)
However, these won’t completely get rid of the risk. This is because HPV lives on the skin in and around the whole genital area. Condoms and dental dams only cover some of your genitals.
In men, women and people with a cervix, genital HPV can affect the:
- vagina
- vulva (the lips surrounding the vagina and the clitoris)
- cervix
- anus or ‘back passage’
- penis
- scrotum (the skin that covers the testicles)
- perineal skin (the area between the anus and the scrotum or vulva)
Other forms of contraception, such as oral contraceptive pills, do not protect against HPV.
I haven’t had sex for a long time. Could I still have HPV? Yes — anybody who has ever been sexually active may have HPV. In most cases, your body gets rid of HPV within 2 years. But sometimes it can stay in our bodies for longer without causing any problems or showing up with a test. This is called ‘dormant’ or ‘clinically insignificant’ HPV.
This HPV can become active again. It may start to cause cell changes in the cervix. This active HPV would be detected with a test.
Do I have to tell current or future partners that I have HPV? It is completely up to you. There is no official guidance or recommendation that you should tell anyone if you have HPV.

2024.05.28 21:09 matbonucci How can I clip it to my trousers waist?
2024.05.28 21:07 bdkmv777 Stay in highly stable boring job for 130k or switch to more stressful passionate job for 190k?
I’m a PhD with about 10 years experience in consulting. A year ago I turned 40, wanted to try something new, and left my job to work at a friend’s startup. Things went belly-up after about 10 months and I panicked at the idea of being unemployed. I was making about 180k at the time, total comp.
I cast a wide net of applications and ended up getting getting hired to work as a manager in HR for talent acquisition at a large government organization in DC. I have only ever worked with recruiters tangentially but truly felt a bit lost and thought that maybe this was a good career change. Pay is 130k plus 12% retirement. I’m already in the top 1% for salaries here; I’ll likely never move up much (it’s not a GS position; promotions and raises are not built in). The work is boring, transactional, about 25 hours per week if that. Everyone is at least 15 years older than me and, respectfully, a Toby. I thought the stability would be ideal but I feel like I’ve lost my purpose in life. I have plenty of hobbies etc but always got a lot of identity from my job. It’s been about 6 months and I see no future here unless I just sit and rot in this role for the rest of my life.
Cut to: I just got an offer from the top firm in my field. 160k + 18% bonus + 5% 401k match. Likely closer to 45 hours per week and more possibility of burnout. Much more aligned with my PhD and skills and interests. A private company without the stability of having the same job forever, though.
Having two failed jobs in roughly one year is making want to vomit, but is that enough reason to stay somewhere that bores me to death? Is guaranteed boredom better than possible burnout?

2024.05.28 20:41 abrokescientist Disaster of an airline
Left LAX on time on flight AA404 5/27 to DCA to get to my end destination (LGA). Made mistake of checking my carry-on (a free option came up at the kiosk) so I wouldn’t have to deal with it on the layover.
Disaster 1: End up being diverted to Dulles around 8:20 after circling for thirty minutes due to weather- land in Dulles at 9:03. After sitting on the tarmac for half an hour, they inform us that they’re trying to refuel so we can take the 5 minute flight to DCA. At this point, we’re given the choice to disembark but if you checked a bag, you must stay on the flight. Later, the extremely snarky middle aged female flight attendant is starting to snap at people and informs us that the toilets are not flushing, so “don’t use the lavatory unless you want to go camping style”. The captain also asks us to thank the “wonderful stewardesses for extending their shift” to continue serving us (which they don’t do, and she snaps at a person asking for water) as if it’s our choice to be stuck in this plane for another hour an half. I ask her what to do about my connecting flight at 10:02 pm: she says they won’t hold it and go in the app for options. I’m already on chat hold, go in the app- no options to change my next leg whatsoever. Finally land at DCA at 10:29. My next leg to LGA AA1227 was delayed but takes off at 10:32 without me. They finally start reading off connection times and gates and ask everyone to stay seated so those with connects can make it and half the plane gets up.
Disaster 2: after disembarking and waiting for half an hour at the help desk while some Karen loses it at the agents, the agent puts me on the next available which is 7:25 pm to JFK the next day. She declines to offer any partner airline substitutes because there are no flights left Monday night and now there are “suitable” American flights the next day, never mind that I miss work. She also declined accommodation because inclement weather is out of their control, leaving me stranded in DC overnight, of course she doesn’t care and doesn’t apologize. I ask what to do about my checked luggage since it didn’t make the next leg either and she says go to baggage claim. It is now 11:10.
Disaster 3: I call capital 1 venture x to make sure of 500$ coverage for accommodation, food and transport and go to baggage claim- my bag is not there. After waiting for thirty minutes and calling hotels for availability, I go to the desk and they put in a request to pull my bag saying it was going to be transferred to JFK for my next flight. They said it will take an hour. In the meantime, I call American until I manage to get on a 2:12 pm flight AA1239 to LGA so I can get back and work half a day tomorrow. American over the phone says they can’t say how much a refund for the second leg would be until I cancel it and file a claim. I wait until 12:42 am and give up and call a Lyft to the cheapest hotel I found with 35 rooms available, 131$. It’s in Chinatown close to the Amtrak Union station (coach for 180$) in case I decide to forgo the flight and book a train back to NYC next morning, then realize I can’t because I have to come back for my luggage the next day.
Unrelated disaster 4: I get to the hotel- Motto Hilton DC only for the guy at the desk to snap at me saying no reservation no room, I’m full. I’m flabbergasted and tell him I spoke to someone on the phone an hour ago and they said there was plenty of availability. He snaps at me “well it wasn’t me you spoke to was it- there’s a fairmont down the street.” I wait outside for my food delivery to arrive (that I ordered at the airport to the hotel) and start crying at being stranded at 1 am in Chinatown. I get a room at fairmont down the street (200$).
Disaster 5: I get back to the airport the next day at 12:14 and head straight to baggage claim, put in a request to pull my bag. Again, they say it’ll take an hour and that it was going to be routed to JFK on the 7:45 pm flight even though 1) I changed my flight to 2:12 pm to LGA and 2) I can see my AirTag showing behind the carousel in the baggage holding area and 3) I already put in a request last night at like 12 am to have it pulled. I wait and revisit the bag claim desk 3 times once it hits over an hour and let them know my 2:12 flight is boarding in thirty minutes at 1:42. They say they already requested it and will contact a manager, over a walkie talkie I hear the worker on the baggage side say it was going to be routed to JFK. At 1:45 I give up, ask them if they can route it to LGA and head to TSA hoping I don’t miss my flight.
I no longer have time to grab a meal, barely make it onto the flight right after final call. I’m now on my flight on the tarmac and can see my luggage is early still in the claim area according to the AirTag.
Seriously, fuck American Airlines. Fuck you for leaving me stranded in DC overnight and fuck you for now inevitably leaving my bag in DC while I have to track it down over the next week or worse, go to JFK to retrieve it.
If I didn’t have this trip booked through Capital 1 I’d now be out 300$ and I still don’t have my luggage back.

Added some more decent stuff, I'd really love to offload all this as it's just sitting in a tote in my garage and I hate it. Shipping is not included unless noted. Please offer on bundles, I'm really inclined to move as much of this stuff as I possibly can and will offer better deals the more you buy.
On everything $5 & under, consider it 3 for $10, 5 for $15, 20 for $50 Title | CIB/loose | Price/Notes |

2 SNS-001 Consoles For Parts/Not Working 2
For Parts/Not Working consoles that have been broken down, including one housing (has some chips/cracks), 2 motherboards, all components, however some are guaranteed to not work. The boards themselves may have additional issues beyond the removed chips, I have no way to test or check them. Neither of these motherboards work. Both of them were giving different graphical issues on the screen, so I thought I'd be clever and try to swap some chips around, but found out as I was doing it that I have no experience with it and was in way over my head. I do not know if there are working chips here to even create one working SNES, as far as I'm aware all of the graphics chips/etc. are bad.
