Today I am trying two fragrances kindly sent to me by Noah from Amphora’s debut collection. Amphora's offerings are "gay-hearted fragrances", perfumes that are joyous, inclusive, and queer, and the first one I’ve got here, Sublimate, really feels like the utmost epitome of these sentiments. With notes of frozen apple, dried rose petals, candied violets, marshmallow, cashmere, and white musk, this scent is a disco ball piñata of Pixy Stix dissolving in a vat of liquid nitrogen, exploding into a supernova of candied campy Barbarellas. It is a technicolor cacophony of hyper-fruity absurdity, a celebratory sweetness that leaves your soul awash in glitter and makes you question the very fabric of reality, and truly, I think it is the penultimate recipe for euphoria. Primal Yell has elements of hot iron, cherry, and bitter almond in addition to patchouli, vetiver, and some other notes, and this is definitely the moodier and broodier of the duo. I definitely get that red fruit, but it’s swaddled in black velvet and furs, and encased in an ancient iron coffin. As a matter of fact, this is very much a blood popsicle shared between two very old, very chic, and jaded, too-cool-for-school vampire lovers. These fragrances, despite being wildly different from one another, share an underlying thread of a creator who is clearly having lots of fun– and who is joyfully inviting us along for the ride.

I can't tell if this is my area in the US or what, but Its extremely difficult for me to make and eat my own food when having a bad arfid episode (thanks childhood neglect 👍) and my arfid has been really bad these past few months after covid messed up my taste buds. But literally everywhere the food quality has gone down immensely. Formulas and recipes are constantly changing so I can barely eat frozen or dry goods because theyve all changed or gone down in quality, chain restaurants and fast food places get this especially bad but the quality is literally dog shit and yet I'm paying MORE for less. Even nicer places I feel the quality of the food isn't that good. I'm so lost and frustrated, this has been the most frustrating episode I've ever had. It feels like the entire net of food I ate is gone. And I know it's because of economy issues and with the way food prices are rocketing I'm just so frustrated. I can tell this is going to be an awful few years for me until the food market stabilizes or until the world collapses I guess. Has anybody else been noticing this? What do people do when their safe foods are gone? I'm just so lost. I'm technically "in treatment" but it feels like no one has any idea how to treat this stupid fucking disorder.

Like for example you do a burrito bowl at home -- a pack of ground turkey, a can of beans, a bag of frozen pepper stir fry, etc.
I used to be able to create my own recipe in the app which will consist of the entire batch. I would then have the option to log "how much" of that batch (i.e. how many grams) I would eat for breakfast, lunch, etc.
But now when I try to do this, it doesn't let me. It's simply listed as "1 serving", when you try to switch to grams or whatever it wants you to figure it out which is stupid. I need to know how many grams is equal to how many calories so I can accurately portion it out on my food scale.
Am I missing something?

People are extra awful today. The worst so far was a woman who came up to me and just said “meatballs.” I wasn’t sure I heard her correctly, so I said, “I’m sorry, can you repeat that please?”she sighed loudly and went, “I want meatballs!” I asked her is she was looking for freshly made or frozen. She barked back frozen. I pointed her in the direction of the frozen section all the way on the other side of the store, apologizing because I didn’t know exactly where they’d be. She sighed again and walked off without saying a word. And I’m supposed to thank k these people for shopping with us. No, I don’t think I will.

I just got a nice toaster oven that has convection, dehydrate and air fry capabilities.
So far, it's done great with store bought pizza (both frozen and unfrozen). It makes toast. It's easy to clean (I don't have crumbs all over the counter anymore now that toaster has gone away)
I've made a couple of chicken thigh sheet pan recipes that turned out great.
Looking for more ideas for the summer. What are your favorites (emphasis on entrees)?
I'm hoping that with this device I won't turn on my gas oven until autumn!

I tried my creami for the first time today. My mix was still icy and crumb like even after 3 respins. I added a splash of extra cream and respun twice. Still crumbly. I added a little bit more cream and spun it again. My mixture became smooth but a little too wet, milkshake like though I didn't use the milkshake setting. I guess I used too much extra liquid, but my base was refusing to become creamy. What can I do next time to fix this?
My recipe is as as follows
One cup heavy cream
One cup chopped fresh strawberries
One splash of vanilla
Two tablespoons of sugar
One pinch of salt
All blended first in my blender and then frozen.

Regarding the buns, I don't want to invest the time and effort trying to bake homemade buns, unfortunately there are no stand-alone bakeries in my area that even bake "normal" hamburger buns, and the supermarket-baked buns are undersized and nothing special IMO. So, I'm wondering what commercial buns come the closest to the size and taste of Fuddruckers buns? I haven't done a thorough search of local supermarkets to evaluate all the options, but the best candidate I've stumbled across so far are Bunny Deluxe Buns.
There's a Facebook post from the Fuddruckers in Bahrain that says they use "USDA Choice beef ground fresh". The question then is what cut of USDA Choice beef? Sirloin? Chuck? Round? Some blend?
A guy over at the TopSecretRecipes website claims to have figured out a recipe that Fuddruckers uses for seasoning their burgers, and I have seen several people on various forums (including this one) post that recipe as what they use (or even link to it) for seasoning both the burgers AND fries, and swear they taste just like Fuddruckers. So, it seems like the seasoning aspect of the puzzle has been solved.
As for their fantastic wedge-cut fries, a Fuddruckers manager that knew me as a customer for a decade told me they fry them in Canola oil. I'm pretty sure they cut their own potatoes fresh on site, but the question is whether they just fry them straight from the cutting board the way In-N-Out Burger does (I think their fries are WAY overrated), or are there the kinds of intermediate steps that "do it yourself fries" online recipes recommend, such as soaking them in ice-water to remove starch and/or pre-cooking them (either first frying them at low heat or first par-boiling them in water) before freezing them. I've read that contrary to intuition, fries actually fry better when frozen than fresh - I presume because it lengthens the time it takes to cook the interior, while the exterior gets more crispy in the meantime.

What I mean… Costco sells their baby back ribs usually with 3 racks in one package. Many times, I’m just wanting to cook 1, or maybe 2, racks at a time.
But they’re all in the same packaging, so it’s hard to remove just 1 or 2 racks as they’re usually frozen together. So I have to thaw them all together, and then refreeze the racks I don’t cook right then.
Is this the only way to do this? I know it’s “safe” to do, but will you lose meat quality doing this?

I’m a college student so wanting to eat well on a tight budget in america is hard, especially when I want to eat sustainably and ethically at the same time. Mussels are one of the few animal-based proteins that are really sustainable and also great from an animal ethics point of view, cheap, and extremely tasty! I’m so surprised so few people like to eat them!
When I found the Aldi frozen Mussels in their natural juices for $3.25, I was delighted as I was 1000 miles away from any ocean and was excited to try out something new! The ingredients being so cheap and value for money made me really pleased with the result. A great meal for $5!
Final result!
Ingredients:
  • Arborio or Carnaroli Rice
  • Onion (i substituted with 1 clove of garlic as i’m moving out and that’s what i had left in my pantry)
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Mussels (Aldi pre cooked and frozen in my case)
  • Fish Stock (only had chicken stock in my case)
  • Parsley (chopped)
  • Butter
  • White wine
Recipe:
  1. If using fresh mussels, clean them by putting them in salt water and allowing them to flush out sand and dirt. Boil them in salted water until shells open and discard mussels that don’t open. Save the mussel water to use later.
  2. If using pre cooked frozen mussels, heat the mussels in a pan until all the ice melts. Save the juice from the melted ice. For both methods remove most of the mussels from the shell and put aside.
  3. Meanwhile, chop onion or mince garlic very finely, smaller than size of rice grain.
  4. Heat onion or garlic with extra virgin olive oil in steel pot or pan, then pour in rice grains to toast.
  5. As rice becomes more transparent, add 2-3oz of white wine, and let it evaporate.
  6. As white wine disappears, add in mussel stock, stirring throughout. Continue adding more stock as liquid disappears gradually, one ladle at a time. Switch to fish stock as mussel stock runs out.
  7. When risotto rice becomes al dente, switch off heat, and make sure there is slightly more liquid than what is finally desired.
  8. Mix in butter, maybe 1.5-2tbsp and shake pot vigorously to cream. Taste to decide if more seasoning is required.
  9. Plate and serve.

What are some ways you combat food waste in order to save or salvage?
For our family, here's a few things I have been doing:
-Making a meal plan. I plan the entire week's meals, purchase groceries on Saturday, and then we have a plan for the entire week.
-Shopping at discount shops. For us, we have a Ruler Foods right down the street. I shop there mostly, but when I have to I will go to the Walmart that is also down the street. These are the cheapest grocery stores in my town. Our local supermarket (Sureway, in the midwest) is crazy high on prices so I avoid it at all costs. We have an Aldi in the next town over, but it is 10 miles away and I try not to drive much, especially when Ruler is comparable.
-Shop the weekly ad. For places like Ruler and Aldi, they put their weekly ads online. We typically meal plan from what meats and vegetables are on special that week and sometimes stock up if the price is right (recently bought two packs of chicken legs, each with 12 legs, for $5 a pack).
-If food is going to go bad, find ways to salvage it. For me, this week I had 1/4 gallon of milk that wasn't quite sour, but was 10 days past best buy date. I made cheese with it to top onto pasta. Any vegetables I have at the end of the week I chop up and freeze, and will use them in soups or to make veggie stock later. I also froze some corn tortillas, made breadcrumbs from bottom-of-the-bag chips, and plan to make breadcrumbs from the tortillas as well.
-First in, first out method: if food is still good, use it first before your newly store bought items. Pack of chicken from last week that's still good? Cook it up. I had about half the chicken legs left over from the meal I made, so next day I boiled them, when they were done I shredded them up and used them to add to a biscuit pot pie (leftover biscuits were already cooked and frozen from breakfast a week prior, so I used those instead of a traditional pot pie crust and there were no leftovers!) I also got about 2 quarts of chicken broth from boiling the chicken, which I froze and have used multiple times this week in recipes.
-Get creative. If you are unsure how to use leftover ingredients before they go bad, Google is your friend. I often will go to Google and try to find ways to use up items or salvage them in some way.

Entangled Conduits share most properties with a Beacon, such as placement, size, piston interactions, and so on. They can be mined successfully by hand or with any tool. When destroyed by an explosion, the block always drops as an item. However, unlike a Beacon they only produce a light level of 10, the same as Crying Obsidian.
Entangled Conduits appear somewhat similar to Stonecutters or Enchanting Tables in that they consist of a low 'table' with some animated feature in the center. They have a Sculk-themed color palette, a square base, and a snowglobe-like 'dome' on top. The dome's appearance changes based on the biome theme currently reflected in the Entangled Conduit network (see below).

Usage

Placement

All Entangled Conduits placed in the world belong to the same 'network' (explained below). As such, placed Entangled Conduits keep their chunk loaded (at a level of 31) so as to remain active in this global network.

Interaction

Players can interact with any single Entangled Conduit to toggle ALL Entangled Conduits in the world between all states currently available to the Entangled Conduit network. The available states consist of each unique biome at least one Entangled Conduit has been placed within (explained further below). Only player interaction can activate an Entangled Conduit to toggle between states.
For example, say four Entangled Conduits are placed in the world, with their chunks consisting of the following biomes: Forest, Forest, Ocean, Jagged Peaks. Interacting with any Entangled Conduit in the world would toggle their states in the following order: Forest -> Ocean -> Jagged Peaks -> repeat. To be clear, there are only three states in this setup: Having two Entangled Conduits in the same biome (Forest) still only grants one state to the rotation.
The snowglobe-like dome in the center-top of each Entangled Conduit changes appearance based on the current biome state of the network.

Effect

Entangled Conduits cause their chunk and the chunks immediately adjacent to them to behave as if they were the chunk and biome currently selected by the Entangled Conduit network's state.
This includes spawning (e.g., mobs, frog variants, etc.), fishing rewards, slime chunks, and so on. Biomes exclusive to certain altitudes (e.g., Deep Dark) or temperatures (e.g., Warm Oceans) can still be emulated, though coordinate-dependent effects (e.g., rain turning to snow at sufficiently-high altitudes in some biomes) will not occur at invalid coordinates even if the contributing Entangled Conduit was placed at such coordinates.
Entangled Conduits work across dimensions, but dimension-exclusive effects (e.g., weather and the day-night cycle in the Overworld, the inability to place water in the Nether, etc.) are NOT transferred. For example, if the Entangled Conduit network is used to copy Frozen Peaks into the Nether, goats will spawn (and probably die pretty quickly by charging something they shouldn't haha) but it will not snow and you cannot place water, because you are still in the Nether.

Justification and Preemptive Arguments

Crafting and Value

Entangled Conduits require some of the least-utilized materials in the game, namely Crying Obsidian, Echo Shards, Nautilus Shells, and Hearts of the Sea. This gives these materials more use cases.
Echo Shards tie into the "remote communication" mechanic of Entangled Conduits, since Sculk Sensors also allow for "wireless" signals. As a component, the Conduit mainly just lends its name to the final product, but it fits thematically in that sense, since a conduit is something that acts as a channel for the transmission of something (in this case biomes).
Requiring Echo Shards and especially Hearts of the Sea to craft causes Entangled Conduits to be a non-renewable and relatively difficult-to-obtain resource, similarly to Shulker Boxes. This limits how much they can be abused, and justifies their extreme power with a relatively high cost.

Chunk Loading

Usage
Chunks becoming unloaded is a major source of frustration for anyone that did not build their base within a spawn chunk (and doesn't wish to 'cheat' by using commands). Even if you did build your main base in a spawn chunk, remote locations of interest may be found outside of this range and become unloaded. This is most relevant for redstone contraptions: Say you built a machine that is supposed to activate whenever the sun goes down. You might think that such a trigger should be a 'global' effect, but your machine will not work unless it is inside a loaded chunk!
Current Solution
The current solution to this problem is to create a chunk loader, but these are relatively complex, tedious, often annoyingly loud, need to be hidden (or else be an eyesore), take up space in both the Overworld and the Nether, can mess with Nether Portal networks, and most importantly break when their server shuts down, making them unsuitable for Realms in particular (Realms servers hard shut down when no players are online).
So, although chunk loading is technically currently possible, a reliable way to keep a chunk loaded is so useful and sought-after that a dedicated mechanic is long overdue in my opinion.
Potential Abuse?
Now, obviously the game only loads a limited number of chunks for a reason: If too many chunks are loaded, performance issues may arise. However, this is already possible to abuse using the above chunk loaders. Entangled Conduits would be even more difficult to spam out into the world than the current chunk loaders, because each Entangled Conduit requires a Heart of the Sea to craft. Not only are Hearts of the Sea a non-renewable resource that cannot be farmed, but they require a rather lengthy process to obtain on top of that!

Remote Redstone Activation

Current Solution
Currently, there are extremely limited (and convoluted) ways to remotely activate a redstone machine. You can simply place down an extremely long redstone signal (which requires a ton of time, redstone, and a pathway from your machine to your activation location), you can use a timed trigger (e.g., setting up a clock to trigger later, or using world effects like the day-night cycle), or you can use Sculk mechanics for more short-ranged but nonetheless "wireless" signals.
Entangled Conduits have obvious advantages over all of these, most notably their simplicity and unlimited range. All you need is an Observer facing any Entangled Conduit and it will detect when the state of the global network changes for any reason.
Yeah Yeah, Another Wireless Redstone Suggestion, Yawn...
To be fair, Entangled Conduits do not directly provide "wireless redstone", and have many limitations that hamstring their usefulness for that purpose.
Instead, an analogy I would draw involves a system I made in my survival world for my Ender Pearl Stasis Chamber recall machine: I set up a redstone circuit that detects when I sleep through the night, using a global mechanic (time of day) to communicate with my system back at my main base over any distance. Natural day-night cycles iterate between light levels continuously, while skipping the night by sleeping abruptly changes the light level, which my system detects. So, when I am ready to be recalled, I can remotely trigger my home base's Ender Pearl Stasis Chamber from anywhere in the world to bring me back just by sleeping.
Entangled Conduits would merely make global communication like this a bit more straightforward. However, they still:
  • are exclusively manually-activated (e.g., like Levers as opposed to Pressure Plates or Observers)
  • are all tied to the same global network (and thus only one device can use them at a time, otherwise you would accidentally trigger other devices using the network)
  • do not directly interface with any redstone components (they produce no signal, the only way to use them is through Observers sensing them change state).
  • are far, far more expensive than other "wireless" options like Sculk Sensors or even Calibrated Sculk Sensors.
Since we only recently received the capability for "wireless" signals with Sculk, one of the main criticisms I foresee about this post is that the existence of Entangled Conduits might make some Sculk mechanics obsolete. However, that isn't the case at all, as the two serve drastically different purposes.

Biome Emulation

Entangled Conduits...
  • do not make exploration obsolete. In fact they actively encourage exploration, since you still need to find the desired biome in the first place.
  • create an emulated biome that is quite small, only taking up 9 chunks (the Entangled Conduit's chunk and those immediately adjacent).
  • cannot fully mimic any biome, since most unique features of biomes (e.g., terrain, generated structures, ore/resources, etc.) are created at world spawn, which emulating a biome afterwards does not affect.
  • are relatively expensive in that they cannot be farmed, limiting their usage and therefore ease of abuse.
All of that being said, there are obviously many, many use cases for emulating various biomes in specific chunks at will. I won't be able to list them all here, so instead I argued for the mechanic's downsides (and therefore balance) in the above list.

It's usually a potato (baked, mashed, roasted, or fries), j Kenji's stovetop mac n cheese, white rice, or seasoned beans. For veggies it's usually corn on the cob or steamed frozen veggies.
