Whenever a cat freaks out, it runs off out of sight. Little do most people know that they actually escape to the cat dimension, which is a dimension that's always just out of sight of all humans and is contiguous with all of spacetime. Cats may travel through it at will, allowing them to go from one point to another seemingly instantly. This subreddit is dedicated to felines (and rarely, other animals) leaving for the cat dimension.

2024.05.16 06:57 VeterinarianIll5289 The new TV series better depict a Ron closer to his character in the books than the one we had from the movies.

I'll start by saying that I'm not going to talk about Ron's lines or moments being given to other characters because you already know about that. For myself, I love the Trio and one of the most important things that the new series has to take into account is that the characterisation of the Trio must be canonically accurate. Characterisation is important to me especially when it concerns the main three characters.
In the movies, I was always disappointed at the portrayal of Ron. There are people who would say they don't really see the difference to which I reply that means you don't really know Ron or you have already formulated an idea of who he is and just ran with it. Here are just some examples to point out how the movies depicted Ron.
  1. Ron dealing with fears
Ron is a Weasley. In COS when confronted by the spiders, Ron responds with two ways, uncomfortable silence or trying to calm himself internally followed by a fierce response. This is seen in COS up until DH when Harry absentmindedly tried to enlarge a spider only for Ron to retort and tell him to stop it.
Ron DOESN'T whimper like a fool, stammer like an idiot or do some stupid panicky face. It's just not in his Weasley blood to do so. Even when confronted by the Horcrux, Ron was terrified but it is more a silent, internal fear that freezes you rather than screaming on the ground. Again after destroying the Horcrux, Harry is relieved that Ron did not throw off his arm which can be a Ron response after dealing with a fear.
  1. Ron's personality
As mentioned above, Ron's personality took a nosedive in the movies. You get some scaredy-cat boy who is fearful of Sirius Black instead of the boy who was in pain yet still told off Sirius Black. Ron's outburst in class from blasting Snape to throwing stuff at Draco were all shoved aside. In OOTP, Ron is seen screaming like a fool after being blasted back in a duel with Hermione (again the whole I go easy on you is not Ron who knows just how powerful Hermione is). In the books, you see them bickering with Ron refusing to give Hermione an inch and vice versa. Ron's aggresive personality is very much Weasley-like as you can see the same thing in Ginny, Fred, George etc. Personally, I laugh whenever a fanfic has Ron as a bully magnet like Ron would allow himself to be bullied.
3 Ron's comic relief
From Uranus to "really breaking your leg", from describing the examiner's face to "hunting down Voldemort in a mobile library", Ron's range of humour typically remains the same. Like Harry, he is snarky and sarcastic. He uses humour to deal and his humour is what makes Harry laugh. Instead of that scared, silly face, Ron as a source of comic relief comes through his remarks and his personality.
There's so much more I could talk about but I'll leave it here for now. I'm just praying that whoever is in charge of the new series, please, please, please read the books and truly understand the character from the character's perspective and not what you want him to be. Ron definitely has flaws so put it in but don't change him into something else entirely.
I bet my hat that if Ron was depicted as he was in the books, you can pretty much guarantee there would be a few people who would be shocked as to see the differences between movie Ron and tv series Ron.

2024.05.16 06:05 KazooSkyfire 32 [M4F] #EastCoastUSA // Looking for my best friend and soulmate!

Hey there! I’m Kazoo! I've been searching for a long time and haven't had much luck, so I decided I'd try here! I’m hoping to meet someone soon, trying to find a partner has been tough... I'm not tied to any location for after college, but would like to stay on the East Coast!
For Hobbies, and probably to no one's surprise, I’m into gaming! I do all kinds including PC and such, but I really like Card and Board Games. One of my favorite parts of growing up was getting together with friends and getting together for all night D&D sessions, or just playing board and card games and sitting around the table with a ton of snacks and food, so I still love doing all that, just can't do it as much as I used to.
I'm also big into Keto, health and wellness, and improving myself! I needed to lose weight at one point and lost 50 pounds before doing heavy research and keeping up with nutrition and Keto, and I'm always happy to talk about that too. It's not for everyone, but I'm always happy to help others reach their fitness and diet goals if I can. Currently I'm back on Keto after stopping for a long time, but it's already going well!
Also I'm currently looking to get back into college and into a stable career! This Fall I'll be returning to college for a career in a brand new field that seems to be pretty lucrative and cutting edge, I'm more than happy to talk about that, but I'll save that for DMs!
I’m very much a work in progress but also knowing my future is bright! If you’re interested in being my partner, I’m looking for someone who:
-Doesn’t smoke anything
-Is okay with having dogs and/or cats
-Wants to have kids one day
-Is strictly monogamous
Looking forward to hearing from you!

2024.05.16 06:01 ImTimzey Cat stopped eating her food, lost 4-6kg.

My cat is 11 years old. She has never had any problems until recently. She stopped eating her food and lost around 4 to 6kg. It was very hard to tell that she lost weight because she has a lot of fur. I only recently discovered how skinny she was because she jumped on my bed at night and i took her in my arms. I was shocked and went to the pet ER. They ran blood tests and told me everything came out good except a few things due to the fact she lost weight and stopped eating but overall was good. When heading back home i realized my father bought the wrong food flavor for my cat and that it could be the reason why she stopped eating. It was the exact same package but with just the word "turkey" instead of "chicken" and she always ate chicken flavor during most of her life. So i immediately bought the chicken flavor she always eats and i started noticing littles holes in her food meaning she started eating again but only a little bit. I think she was gaining weight again until a couple of days now where she stopped once again eating her food. I forgot to mention that i also tried different snacks, liquidy ones. Hard ones, etc... but she never eats them. I watched her stare at her water bowl. It looked like she was drinking but she kept drinking, moving around a little bit, drinking again and in very small portions, her water barely even drops. Its always full and i replace it with fresh water everytime. She then stares at her food for not even half a second and then leaves. She hides a lot and sleeps a lot since im guessing she has low energy. I try to reassure her, take her in my arms but she tries to escape and go back hiding in some place to sleep alone. For a moment i thought she was depressed so i tried playing with her, reassuring her but i don't know if that's actually the case. She doesn't vomit or show any signs of being in bad health. I don't understand what is happening with her ?!
Please feel free to give advice and ask more questions if more information is needed as i think i've missed out on some things maybe. Thank you.

Meet Clark!
So this baby adopted our family by laying in the driveway long enough that I had to move him so he wouldn’t get ran over. Then he started purring and so now I have a kitten. I have a lab mix that has been an only pet since we got her. The dog isn’t necessarily aggressive, but also looks like she will catch me slipping one day and eat the cat for a snack. What’s the best way to get the cat and the dog to at least tolerate each other?

2024.05.16 03:47 HeatJoker Waiting for that Melder.

Or Wyvern Tickets or whatever they want to implement to finally ease a little bit of the stranglehold RNG has on this game.
I know this is what it's like in the main games too, but those also feature significantly larger drop amounts and the ability to fight any monster at will. Without those, the RNG goes from an annoyance to downright infuriating.
I just completed a quintuple Barioth HAT and got a single Tail. Five cats, five severed tails, one Barioth Tail. One out of the fifty I'll need in the next grade. That's wild. And they expect me to spend real money on tickets for the chance to have that happen again? I'm not even buying the Prime pass again until Kushala comes along and adds something worth doubling. I don't mind spending money on a game I enjoy, but only when I get something worthwhile in return.
I know this is just another voice shouting the same stuff that's already been said for almost a year now, but these bottlenecks are what sap my motivation to play. I'm fine with the Zenny grind, I'll get there eventually. I just need that melder. And I don't care if they monetize it or make the ratio something crazy like 50 rarity 1s for a rarity 2. At least then, every successful hunt would be a meaningful step towards something tangible and not just another roll of the dice.

2024.05.16 03:38 bootsforever Executive Function Win: Robot vacuum/mop

After about 10 years of a semi-functional rhoomba, we finally bit the bullet and upgraded to a combination vacuum/mop.
Y'all. The entire house has been vacuumed and mopped every single day for the past 6 days. Everything feels amazingly clean.
My quality of life has improved significantly. I no longer feel like I have to wear slippers inside the house. It feels nice to sit on the floor and stretch. Having a clean floor also lowers some kind of threshold, and suddenly it seemed much easier to do other cleaning (low level dusting, wiping off surfaces).
Specifically, it feels like a huge relief executive function wise. I don't have low level guilt about cat hair tumbleweeds drifting around the floor. I'm so much more relaxed. Cleaning the floor is now an automated task and it doesn't have to take up that precious space in my brain.
I'm so happy. I'm telling everyone about it. My therapist asked if I was a paid spokesperson for the vacuum company.
Is your house really that dirty?
We have two cats- they shed a normal amount for short haired cats. They also track a small amount of cat litter.
We have never been a no-shoes house. I usually wear house slippers or dedicated sandals inside.
I shed a lot: hair, skin (bad dermatological genes). I like to garden and make things and often carry in dirt or mulch or whatever on my clothes. I have been known to eat handfuls of crunchy snack as I wander throughout the house. I like cooking but I have never once added diced vegetables to a pot pie pan without dropping a few on the floor.
We have a lot of fabrics, books, houseplants, and I like the windows open when possible- all of which creates dust. I am tidy but hate deep cleaning, especially including vacuuming (too loud, can't deal with the cord) and mopping (too cumbersome, how much water are you really supposed to use, the floor isn't clean enough to mop anyway).
What is your house like?
Small: less than 900 square feet. All the floors are wood floors. We have a small rug in the bedroom but I've picked it up off the floor every time I ran the vacuum. We have a basement but it's unfinished.
What is this magical vacuum?
I'm not sure if I can make a product recommendation in the post but I'm happy to share in the comments!
Pros/cons/user experience?
Expensive.
We got a refurbished model for $640. It's not the real high end ones, but it was a significant investment for us. It does have mop pads and stuff that need to be replaced periodically. They also suggested purchasing their floor cleaner, which I did this time around. You can also mop with just water.
Connects to an app, maps the house
Pros: reminders about cleaning the mop heads, emptying the dirty water, etc. You can see the path it took so you know where exactly it cleaned.
Cons: I'm not comfortable with too many smart devices or storing data about my living space in the cloud. That said, I'm kind of a Luddite: YMMV. Also, this is one instance where the benefit to me was worth the privacy trade off.
I did put the chairs on the dining table and other minor tidying of cords, etc before running the vacuum.
TLDR
I love the combination vacuum cleaner robot mop (with this rhythm).

2024.05.16 02:26 SweatyYeti2020 I (27M) might end my relationship with my gf (27F) because I feel under appreciated, but wonder if I’m being unreasonable?

I want to establish that we both care about each other a great deal. We dated for a while about two years back, broke up, and then got together again about 6 months ago despite being a two hour flight apart. We visit each other pretty frequently (at least once a month) and both thoroughly enjoy spending that time together. She is very caring and sweet, and she reminds me that she loves me (and has done so more frequently over time).
However, the lingering issue in our relationship is that I sometimes feel disappointed by the perceived lack of care or effort on her part, while she feels like she’ll never be good enough to ever make me fully happy.
While I admit to losing patience and sometimes criticizing her, both of which I have made efforts to be better about, I would say that neither is unwarranted (albeit the wrong response). Here are some issues that stick to me where I’ve felt undervalued or underappreciated. She didn’t get me anything for Valentine’s Day even though I flew out specifically to be together on that day, and we had already talked about how I’d love to receive gifts or be shown she cares, especially on special occasions (for the record, I got her a gift and flew with a bouquet of flowers). Even though she knows I am very allergic to cats (of which she has two), she didn’t exhaust all allergy reducing options (for example, she cleaned her rooms and changed the bedsheets, but didn’t replace the AC filter with an allergy scale one or brush her cats to reduce their shedding) until I was reacting severely to the allergens and got upset over feeling like she wasn’t making her space as welcome to me as possible (meanwhile, I’d make my house spotless and bought her favorites drinks and snacks before her visits, and even bought a dog bed for her dog without her ever having to ask about it). Recently, I flew out after not seeing her for over a month, and while I expected a warm welcome, she had me pay for our dinner and then when we went to a bar for trivia, told me if I wanted to drink that I should get them myself (she was on antibiotics and couldn’t drink). For her, one part is that she was on the tail end of being sick, and also was planning to take me to a sushi restaurant that weekend which is why she felt fine having me cover dinner. But to me, it felt like I showed up just to fend for myself and she had made no effort to give me the warm welcome that I’ve made the effort to give her whenever she visits.
I could go on, but in short, I feel like I am very proactive about meeting her needs and taking care of her and doing things that bring her joy, whereas I feel like she (to her credit) makes efforts but they sometimes fall short. It’s not that she doesn’t care, I feel like… she thinks she’s doing enough and doesn’t feel the need do more? Or maybe the disappointment is because my standards are too high and I’m not being understanding? I almost feel like if I want something, anything, I have to explicitly ask her, or it won’t occur to her. And I understand one perspective of this is “well if you don’t say it, how can they know?”, but on the other hand she (for example) doesn’t have to ask me to buy her Ginger Ale, I know she loves it so I have it stocked before she arrives because I know she’ll appreciate it and she doesn’t need to ask me.
Am I being unreasonable to feel this way? Am I putting too much importance on individual events when I should look more big picture at all the ways she is consistently there for me? I also feel like anytime I complain about feeling this way, it further drives a wedge between us because she feels like she’ll never be enough and I’ll leave her at any moment. Should we just let things go?

2024.05.16 01:54 storiesof-adreamer 26 [F4M] Knoxville/Anywhere - Looking for special someone

Hi there, I'm Dreamer.
Last year, I underwent a mental health treatment journey from September - February. I spent a month in a residential facility outside of Nashville for a month. After I was released, I spent a week and a half in a PHP in Chattanooga. It wasn't the right fit for me, so I drove myself to Knoxville, spent three and a half months in PHP, stepped down to IOP for two months and then graduated from the program.
I moved into a sober living program in East Knoxville in February and stayed there until March. My dad convinced me to come back to Nashville and stay with him and my step family for a while; hadn't seen my entire family in months and didn't exactly receive the warmest welcome... Needless to say, shit went sideways, was uninsured and couldn't get the meds I needed, my mental health tanked and I eventually started drinking/using THC to self-medicate.
Decided to say "Screw it, I'm trying this again" and I was in a recovery center in Kentucky for 18 days. Left there yesterday and now I'm back in Knoxville at my old PHP program. What happened sucks and I'm not the proudest of relapsing after having months of sobriety but I'm feeling optimistic and motivated... I just want to get back to feeling okay again, you know?
Tomorrow will mark 34 days sober, woo.
Anyway, now that I've probably scared everyone off... Where do I start?
I'm 26 years old, an Aquarius and an INFJ-T. I'm originally from Nashville, as you might have guessed. I'm very thicc but I lost a fair amount of weight during my first treatment stint and I'm trying to maintain it. I'm also 5'7" so I'm kinda tall-ish...? I'm also Black, but I like guys of all colors, so I don't discriminate.
My hobbies/interests: Writing, music, photography, TV/movies/YouTube, people watching, traveling and so much more that I can't think of. I started journaling again too (I stopped after I last got out of treatment) and it's like I never left.
I love animals (especially cats, dogs and snakes!) I have my own car (though it's currently back in Nashville and I probably won't get it until I go into IOP again) and most of my sanity haha.
Just an FYI, I do vape. I don't do it all day long but it's still a habit. I don't smoke cigs, though, because they're nasty and smelly. I want to quit vaping altogether but it is what it is right now. We all need our vices.
What am I looking for in a guy?
  1. Someone the same height or taller than me (AKA 5'7"+)
  2. Someone with nice hair (I've always been really attracted to men with medium to long hair because I love playing with it)
  3. Someone with positive qualities such as kindness, honesty, affection, gentleness, emotional maturity, etc...
  4. Someone between the ages of 23-35 (I may be willing to make an exception on a case-by-case basis, but absolutely ONLY if you match everything else I'm looking for. With that being said, if you are below 21 or above 40, I'm not going to respond)
  5. Someone who's chivalrous (Holding doors open, being cognizant of my needs and feelings, lending a hand, etc)
  6. Someone who is a hopeless romantic. I want all the sappy letters, the curated love playlists, the intimate talks... All of it.
  7. Someone in tune with their (and their partner's) love languages. My top three love languages are physical touch, words of affirmation and quality time... But ultimately, I love every one of them
  8. Someone who enjoys going out and doing fun stuff but also enjoys hanging out at home... Spontaneity is awesome!
  9. Someone who loves animals! I'd love to adopt a kitten one day, but I'm also interested in adopting a senior cat too. They need just as much love after all
  10. Someone who either lives in the surrounding region and/or is willing to plan to come visit regularly. (I'd love to visit you as well)! I want us to spend time together and build a connection. I believe long distance relationships CAN be successful if there is consistent face-to-face interaction. I'm not too keen on international connections unless, of course, you have the time and means to come and see me regularly
    1. Someone who has a car, so we can drive around and do stuff. I can be your very own passenger princess, complete with absolute bangers and lots of snacks!
    2. Someone who enjoys meaningful conversations. I hate small talk, one word answers or when someone ignores my input/thoughts. If you can't communicate or don't like to keep in touch throughout the day, please don't bother.
I want someone to hold hands with, run errands together, give random kisses and hugs, cuddle up on cold nights and rainy days, take drives and see where the road leads us... I want you to be my one and only. By the way, as far as intimacy goes, I need to take things really slow for personal reasons. I can explain more about it once we know each other better and I feel comfortable telling you. So if you are going to be pushy or judge/ shame/ridicule me, don't talk to me.
There's tons more I could say about myself but I'll leave it there for now.
When you message me, please tell me your age and location, send a recent SFW picture of yourself and please confirm that you're willing and able to meet in person and spend time together as our relationship buds and blossoms.
And you can include whatever else you'd like to tell me about yourself; longer messages catch my eye for sure. Just please don't say "Hey," or any other similar greeting because I won't respond to that. Also, sneak the word "Spooky" into your first message so I know that you read through my entire post.
I hope to hear from you soon!

2024.05.16 00:21 Nicole_0818 The bone in the park disappeared when I picked it up!

I had the bunny hat on from the vending machine. I took it off, still no bone. I was gonna put it in the dog bowl for the dog that barks at us right before the cat meets the crow again.
I saved and reloaded and still nothing. Is it gone forever now cause I saved? Is there any way to make it respawn?
I updated before I opened the game so idk if that’s it or if that’s supposed to be the fix?

2024.05.16 00:06 Top_Protection_6237 I went away for a few days and my kitten is running away from me now

Hi!
Me and my boyfriend adopted two kittens - a black kitten and an Egyptian Mau. Both are six months old and after some adjustment period are really good friends now. We adopted the black kitten first but he got lonely so we adopted the Mau some weeks later. The black kitten is really social and tolerates everything, but the Mau is really shy and doesn’t like to be approached, especially with two hands.
She was scared the first week in her new home and was hissing often at everyone, but with some snacks and pets she warmed to us and the black kitten. She was really comfy, was improving socially fast and got really vocal. She accepted many pets - even with two hands, we could pick her up for a short time with out her scratching us, I clipped her nails and got to brush her, she started to eat without being scared and we even started to collar train her.
But some days ago I went away for two days. My boyfriend told me that she went around the house and meowed everywhere. So we thought she probably was looking for me. When I came back she sat and looked at me from a distance. When I went to say hi and pet her she ran away, so I pet the black kitten instead. I thought she was just shy. From that on day she just keeps running away from me and sometimes from my boyfriend too. She comes to the bed at night and then we can pet her like usual, she even purrs. She eats normally, uses the litter and plays with cat toys as usual. But just keeps running away mainly from me. I feel it’s a little bit frustrating since we worked so hard to socialize her, and now it feels like we’re back at square one in that aspect.
We don’t let the kittens outside yet since the adoption place recommended to wait until the kittens are one year old.
Is she just mad at me that I left and is dramatic? Or should I be concerned? What should I do to socialize her again?

2024.05.15 23:09 len3158 My Dropshipping Journey So Far - 5 Stores and Counting...

I have been on this journey for over 6 months now. Launched many different stores across a few niches.
I am taking a small break from everything after grinding at it for 6 months straight (and managing life as well, sort of).
Overall, I am doing something wrong. While I learned a lot, I have not been able to be profitable with any of the stores I've built. So I am taking this time to reflect, share and re-strategize.
First Store : Printers & Labels
Obviously, this was my first ever store. While the design wasn't too bad. My creatives sucked, plain and simple. My marketing offers were absent, and I was targeting an audience without a CC or money at all (young students). I was doing organic TikToks and Paid Meta Ads. So I am not too mad about it and used what I learned to launch a second store. Ran this one for about a month before pivoting.
Second Store : Seasonal Product in the Hat Niche.
Launched the store much quicker. Setup some FB ads only and focused on them. This one I am kinda still mad at myself. I had found a product, a niche and some interest (in Eastern Europe and Ukraine specifically), but the margins were razor-thin to non-existent. And a big mistake of mine was not validating the entire checkout process, which made me miss the first 30 sales from the Meta Ads campaign. (This one kinda hurt after failing to do proper QA). I believe I would have been in a different place than I am now and could have made a few grands with this store. Although, the margins were bad and the product had high interest, but was seasonal.
Third Store : Pet niche (cats).
After failing to regain traction and completely messing up my Facebook pixel from the second store, I decided to buy a course to learn the ins and out of Dropship and FB ads. Gained a loooot of knowledge through it, although I would have been fine with a free course as well from YouTube. Launched an entirely new store with a done-for-you offer from the course. All you had to do was to build product descriptions and marketing offers (of course you were free to overhaul the store to your taste, which I did not do as other members of the group were selling in different niches and in the same niche as me).
I failed again. Ran the store for 3 months. Made a few sales here and there from FB Ads (reached breakeven on one product) but was, overall, still not a profitable store.
So I scrapped it. As I was growing frustrated with it not working. I figured selling pet products in a country where pet stores are pretty common (France) would further put me at a disadvantage. (Of course it isn't always the case, when you're good at marketing, there is almost no such thing as a saturated market).
Fourth Store : Jewelry Niche
If you've been in the dropshipping game (and E-commerce in general) for long enough, you know that you have to play a different type of game in this space, as you solve no real problem to the consumer. Decided to go organic to test the product this time. Created so many TikToks in a short amount of time (around 40 TikToks in 2 days that I posted on TK, YT Shorts, IG reels). None of them went viral. I did get some traffic on the store. But no conversion. Selling jewels source from some Factory in China won't be as easy. Killed the store after 2 weeks.
Fifth Store : Beauty and Skincare Niche
So you might have seen my post asking for feedback a month back or so about this store. Again, produced 60~ TikToks in a week or so and shared them on IG, TK, YT and Snapchat to see if the product would be a fit in the market. After seeing some traction, decided to launch a paid ad campaign on TikTok. Launching product in the big 4 + UAE (wanted to launch in Asia as this product would have been more popular and the product name less shocking there as it is from here in NA). The result? Some ads got banned as the ads showed too much skin for the country's law in the UAE, had to cancel some orders from countries in Asia as the supplier did not have shipping lanes in some markets there, and even though I had multiple ATC events from the TikTok Ad campaign, I've got ZERO conversions.
So here I am. Sitting on my rock contemplating about life and wondering how dumb must I be for not at least finding/making this business model work. While some 20 something youngsters are killing it. (Big props to them!).
Now before I launch another store, I am open to learn more about what I missed or what I have been doing wrong. I genuinely want to get better, otherwise I am just wasting my time.
I documented everything. Willing to share my creatives to know where I went wrong. There is definitely room for improvement.
One day I will make it. One day.
So for those of you who are on this journey, I feel you. This is a long term game. Keep up the good work!
Cheers.

2024.05.15 22:25 SkinnyStick8965 4.3 Update Discussion

So I just made a post making me look like a dummy regarding Epic Spurrit, and I wanted to both share and get opinions on the 4.3 update.
The Map:
Personally I actually never disliked the carousel. It was kinda monotonous at times but how I play the game, I think it worked good. The new map is stylistically fantastic, and I even don't have the loading issues others are having. Maybe I'm lucky, or maybe it's not that bad, I'm not sure. My biggest issues are the zoomed look. It feels way too zoomed in for me to care about the actual map instead of the side bar. If I could zoom out more, I'd love it no question. The other issue is the placement of the islands on said bar. I get why, and it's honestly better to have naturals (I think shugabush and gold is by all definitions natural islands), etherals, fires, and magical, etc. It makes sense, but I do hate how collosingum is in the middle instead of the bottom, and how the order is changed. I loved the order before and hope they give us the option to customize the order so we can choose which ones we want to prioritize. Overall I like it a lot, but I'd appreciate a few changes.
Epic Phangler / Epic Spurrit
I don't really have much to say about these guys. I really like the designs of both of them. I love the filter on Phanglers mic, and the tiny hat on Spurrit. Great monsters (still need that Shanty breeding combo).
Mimic / Oasis Wubbox :
I don't know how the general fanbase views either of these monsters. On Wubbox, I really enjoy his sound *in isolation*. In the island songs, it's too much for me. I prefer just the 15 normals, seasonal, mythical if they have it, and the dipsters. I don't really care for the werdos, wubboxes, colossals, etc. I love them all as individual monsters, but I feel once you add words, or the dubstep, it loses its individuality and becomes just loud. Sometimes I don't agree with it, I enjoy most Rare Wubboxes, and stuff like Wublin Island really works with Wubbox, but again here I don't really care for it, at least with max volume. Good sound, kinda takes away from the actual song for me though. And with Mimic, I just don't really like it. I am a huge lover of every single monster. From Spurrit, to Gobbleygourd, to the Dipsters, I love every monster. This is the one exception. I just think it sounds bad? I know that's kinda the point, but I don't really like it at all. I'm happy it's here, and I don't dislike it, but I do not like it if that makes sense.
Island Intros:
I do not know why they added this, but I love it. Getting word marks for old islands is awesome, and I really like em.
Wishes:
More on the wishes thing, I have a few things I wish BBB would add to the game;
There are more, and I'd love to discuss. Comment with your opinions on this update, old updates, and things you'd want to see. I'd love to have a nice discussion about it!

2024.05.15 22:09 lefthandconcerto My Review of The Pinhoe Egg (Spoilers Within!)

About six months ago, in November, I started my journey through the "Chronicles of Chrestomanci," which of course are not really a series as much as a collection of books which all take place in the same set of universes. I read everything in order of publication, posting my thoughts here each time, and with the completion of this book I am now all the way through these wonderful novels. Please forgive my lack of direct quotes this time--having read nothing else for fun besides these books for six months, I found my note-taking capacity to be somewhat diminished. Maybe in the future I'll write a more detailed review.
The Pinhoe Egg is the final Chrestomanci book, whether you're reading them in order of publication or chronologically. I have no doubt Diana Wynne Jones did not intend this to be a "series" with a beginning and end; rather, I assume she simply got several book ideas that took place in this world, and this happened to be the last time before she died. It is sheer luck, then, that this last book is a sort of grand culmination of them both thematically and narratively, and possibly the best of the lot.
We start, typically, with a new protagonist, Marianne Pinhoe, and a new locale, the small rural village of Ulverscote, located a stone's throw from Chrestomanci Castle and Helm St. Mary. I liked that we got a little more background about this area throughout the book. When I go back to reread Charmed Life, I'm looking forward to putting it all into this new context.
Marianne became a favorite character almost instantly, and I was hooked on her storyline right from the beginning. Jones has a typically virtuosic opening sequence, wasting no time in establishing the key characters and launching into a dreadfully funny episode telling of Marianne's grandmother (who is also a kind of matriarch or "Gammer" over all the Pinhoes) apparently abruptly developing dementia and being forcibly removed from her home. There is black comedy galore here, all painfully adjacent to the real experience of making arrangements for a feeble or senile parent, as when Gammer is so averse to leaving her home that she roots herself in the bed, complete with actual roots. Meanwhile, Gammer's brothers and many children squabble over who gets to live in her house and where her belongings will go.
I mentioned before how Jones is always surprising me with the variety of formal structures and writing styles she employs. I thought I had figured out her game here, and was sure it was going to be similar to Conrad's Fate, where a new protagonist gradually makes their way into meeting familiar characters. But of course, Jones neatly sidesteps all reader expectation and switches tracks suddenly a few chapters in, focusing on Cat Chant as a second, equal protagonist, and revealing this book to be, among other things, the true sequel to Charmed Life--published 29 real-life years later. Jones then begins alternating between Cat and Marianne unevenly, and sometimes even from sentence to sentence, as in Witch Week. Her sleight of hand is sly and clever, and the craftsmanship is remarkable. Hats off--each of the seven books in this series reads totally differently. Jack of all trades, master of all, our Diana.
Jones stacks on the themes this time. We of course get some of her usual preoccupations, particularly with that of unreliable families. The Pinhoes may be the worst of the lot, or at least the most upsetting, because while in most of the other books the dysfunction is obvious, things are more insidious here. The reader is actually led (through Marianne's obedient, rule-following perspective) to see Harry, Cecily, Gammer, and most of the uncles and aunts as well-meaning individuals who care for one another. However, as in Charmed Life (and Cat himself draws the comparison), as the book goes on and Marianne becomes more independent, it becomes increasingly difficult for her, and for us, to justify their cruel behavior. It is genuinely devastating when Marianne figures out what's going on halfway through the book, decides to approach the adults in her life about it, and is laughed off or outright punished by all of them. There is a familiar scene at the end of the book: Marianne's and Joe's talents are vindicated by Chrestomanci and they are given the opportunity to nurture their skills in an education apart from parents who hold them back by refusing to understand or accept them. Replace the current Chrestomanci with the previous acting Chrestomanci, Gabriel de Witt, and you have the same scene as the end of Conrad's Fate. The detail that Marianne and Joe still go home and see their parents regularly is brutally realistic, Marianne able to convince her mother to soften on some issues, but ultimately failing to truly connect with her father. This seems to me the ultimate conclusion of the obsession with family dynamics in the Chronicles of Chrestomanci--that your family will always be there, like them or not, whether or not a true understanding can ever be reached. I'm not ashamed to say I cried through the last couple chapters of the book, and found the first line Jones has written that made me audibly sob. This was a feeling from childhood I didn't even know I had forgotten:
[Marianne] was depressed and worried. Dad was never going to understand and never going to forgive her. And Gaffer had still not turned up. On top of that, school started on Monday week. Though look on the bright side, she thought. It'll keep me away from my family, during the daytime at least.
As in Conrad's Fate, the potential toxicity of religion crops up here, in a bigger way than ever. The last act of the book is barely disguised by its magical trappings: what we have here is a group of devout, religious conservatives, being shown the harmful effects of their actions, and blindly rejecting all of the proof and logic in front of them in favor of enforcing rules and laws that keep them comfortable. There is no doubt that the next generation of Pinhoes will be just as subject to the old traditions, in spite of Marianne and Joe breaking free. That the Reverend Pinhoe is portrayed as a hapless and kind man, ignorant to most of the wrongdoing in the village, does little to soften the point of Jones's pencil here. As I said, I was startled by how moved and devastated I was by this final section, recognizing all of the real-world pain in this fantastical setting.
Jones has always been steadfastly protective of those who cannot speak up for themselves, as with the character of Cat who finds it difficult to recognize and verbalize his feelings. This time, borrowing from a kind of Shinto animism, Jones includes the concept of Dwimmer, a magic that is focused on the life force within all creatures and plants. There is no debate where Jones stands on this--her deepest and most profound sympathies lie with Cat, who can't bear to imagine his horse Syracuse chopped into dog meat, who frets over Klartch's wellbeing when out of his sight, and who firmly refuses to apologize for releasing all the goblinlike fairy folk from their bindings. There is no direct intimation of endangered species, global warming, or human-caused environmental destruction in this book, as you might expect in this kind of setup (I suspect Jones was too clever to resort to trite metaphors). However, in a fascinating twist, a plot detail revolves around the Pinhoes and Farleighs erecting a barrier in the forest to contain the magical creatures, making the forest feel empty and incomplete in the process--a magical, but also literal, instance of deforestation. Motives of plants, herbs, and trees, both good and evil, carry through the book as well. Jason and Gaffer Elijah Pinhoe, as well as Cecily, are handy with plants and tend large gardens. The Farleighs' and Pinhoes' spells tend to take the form of small bags of weeds and branches as well. Interestingly, and insightfully, the natural world is portrayed as difficult as well: Gammer grows roots to impede her family's mission, and the vile Gaffer Farleigh morphs into a stubborn, gnarled, immovable petrified oak when Cat works a spell forcing him to assume his true form.
This was one of the most enjoyable books in the Chrestomanci series, and it was bittersweet to close the door on the Pinhoes. I like that the continuity between these books is vague and tenuous, so I'm free to imagine all sort of side goings-on, like what might happen to Marianne and Cat later in life, or whether Conrad and Christopher remained friends, or what Roger and Julia thought when their dad told them all about the events at the academy in Witch Week. Howl's Moving Castle is still the book closest to my heart, and will forever be the Diana Wynne Jones I read over and over, recommending to anyone unfortunate enough to strike up a conversation about books with me, but I am so glad that I found the time to welcome Chrestomanci and all his strange acquaintances into my heart, too.
Here's my personal ranking of the Chronicles of Chrestomanci, but please note I love all of these books and a low ranking does not mean I don't like the book. I have to put that there because there's always someone who doesn't understand that last place doesn't mean bad or worst. I'm not including the short stories individually because it's impossible for me to weigh a short story against a novel, whereas a large collection seems to make sense to me. I also must admit that the top three, especially the top two, were really difficult to place and I more or less love them equally.
  1. Conrad's Fate
  2. The Pinhoe Egg
  3. Charmed Life
  4. Mixed Magics
  5. The Magicians of Caprona
  6. Witch Week
  7. The Lives of Christopher Chant
My next Jones book will be -- drumroll, please -- Archer's Goon, though I'm taking a break for some adult reading during the summer. While I'm in a school semester I can pretty much only manage to read children's fantasy, so I'll see you all come August or September. :) Thanks to those of you who have been reading and following my journey from start to finish. I would love to chat more about this book and this series.
Oh, and finally... ALL SPOILERS ALLOWED!

2024.05.15 21:00 handthatf33ds 29 [F4M] UK, EU and US longing.

Hey, hi, hello.
I’ve been posting on and off for a few years now and I’m sure some of you are sick of seeing me. Oh well, we’re in this sub for one reason and one reason only: to find a connection and possibly a happy ending.
I’ve been told I’m too picky and too open about myself; I don’t think Im either of these things. We all have different tastes and expectations from other people and that’s fine. And yes, I am very open about who I am, shouldn’t we all be? Would save us some disappointment.
I did try numerous dating sites and chatrooms but to no avail; those whove been in the same situation know what’s that like. I have a fair share of horror stories from dating apps and who knows, one day I could share these with you!!
Before I move onto the spiel about myself and how much of a catch I am please read below:
About you:
-living the UK/Europe/US (max of 6h time difference)
-a straight man
-a homebody, with the occasional want to go out and do things
-aged 29 – 48 (I will not reply if you’re not within the age bracket)
-speak English (for communication purposes duh)
-child free (and must want to remain this way)
-MONOGAMOUS
-NO PREFERENCE HEIGHT OR BODY WISE, I’m all about a nice face
-impeccable basic personal hygiene (not expecting you smelling like your local perfume store)
-no addictions (ie excessive alcohol use, smoking and any type of illegal drugs)
-respectful, loyal, funny, affectionate, caring, loving and patient (a lot of it needed with me).
-will not demand any personal content (if you know what I eamn)
-in full time employment (if we are long distance, how else are you going to fund your travels?)
But beyond all that I’m after a best friend. Someone who will have my back until the end. Someone who will accept me for who I am and wouldn’t want to change me (I can offer the same back). Someone who will enter my life and assume the role of my partner (eventually) and join me on this rather bizarre journey called life. Don’t give up on me and I wont give up on you.
I will not respond to any messages along the lines of ‘hru’. ‘hi’.
Once again, no budging on the age or location.
If your profile contains anything inappropriate, I won’t respond either.
I think I made myself more than clear.
Just one more thing, I promise!!!!
This is not to get any attention or sympathy or help; more of a prewarning. I have met a lot of amazing people on here who got their hopes up about me and once things didn’t seem to be as amazing as this image, they had of me they left.
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 12, as well as severe anxiety (no self-diagnosis here, by an actual professional). I take meds for it but some days are worse than the others. I’m also on the waiting list to get help, but like me you’re in the UK you’ll know what this is like (no issues with the NHS, they’re amazing; just overworked and understaffed). I can’t afford to go privately. At this moment in time,I am about 2 years away from seeing someone.
I suffer from fibromyalgia (if you don’t know what this is, just google it) in late 2019 after ruling everything out. I have days when I’m extremely exhausted and in a lot of pain. I still go to work and try to go on about my life as much as possible but please bear that in mind.
Ive been taking all sorts of meds too, including painkillers to control the pain.
Please don’t see me as someone hopeless or feel sorry for me. This is not the point of this confession.
My name is Anita and I’m a 29yo Eastern European woman, living in the UK just outside of Bristol. I’ve been here for the last 17 years and I consider myself England my home. I’m not considering moving back at any point in my life (however I’ll move elsewhere for the right reasons and right person). I will share my exact location once we’re acquainted a bit more.
I’m 6ft tall (yes I am this tall and I’m aware that it’s way too tall for a woman) and. weight approx 13st or 200lbs (my weight keeps fluctuating a lot and no, I’m not looking for any tips to lose weight). I dye my hair red but it’s more like ginger these days. I have green eyes (they’re useless as I wear glasses) and I wear a lot of black eyeliner lol. I guess you could say I’m kinda emo/goth?
An extreme introvert since I was a young one (definitely not shy, in fact I can get a bit volatile when it comes to standing up for myself). I don’t need to get out of my shell, so none of that please. I like my own company as well as my loved ones; and leaving the house only for work and groceries suits me well.
I’m a vegetarian (not a deal breaker if you’re not; your choice is to eat meat and mine isn’t. Respect it and you shall receive the same back). I think it’s time for everyone live and let others live too.
Tea, coffee and snack addict! (I love herbal tea with no sugar or milk; coffee wise I like a good cap or a caramel macchiato as a treat. Snack wise anything goes really. Fruit, crisps, cake and sweets!)
Bookworm (I haven’t read in a long time, I love books I promise. Just haven’t had much time lately. I have a stack of them which is growing. I need to finally find some time and immerse myself in one of many crime novels I have).
Apolitical (now, I read the news everyday but I do not support any of the parties. They don’t care about you or me, sorry to break this to you).
Animal lover (I have 4 rescued cats two boys and two girls aged between 10-11 who are my absolute life. In total, my mum and I have rescued about 60 cats in the last 10 years. We found them safe and loving homes but for some of them unfortunately it was too late).
No addictions here (I don’t drink or smoke; although I like my vapes a lot).
In my spare time (whatever I get of it) I like to go for walks, listen to music and podcasts, nap, watch tv, chill with my mum and cats, go shopping and grab a coffee with my ma, visit my brother in London, over eat, over think and read books.
I don’t really have any hobbies.
I don’t game religiously but I do enjoy sims 4 (someone told me that isn’t gaming although I’d say it’s a computer game so clues in the name but what do I know, right?) I don’t watch anime either, tried once and couldn’t get into it.
As you can tell, I’m just a relatively unremarkable human being, trying to find her place in this world. And I’m happy about that, being in the limelight is the last thing I know.
With that being said, if you managed to get through my ramblings and they somewhat resonated with you, shoot me a message.
Message me with your name, age and location and what caught your eye about my post. Don’t have to send me your picture right away; I won’t send mine until I’m comfortable enough. To show that you have read, end your message with ‘toodlepip’.
I will respond as soon as I can but please note that there might be delays in messaging back due to well… life being life I suppose.
And if you didn’t like what you read… well then scroll along, no need to let me know about this in the comments or to message me to call me names. It’s nice to be nice.
Thank you for reading this and looking forward to seeing some messages. If not, best of luck in your search!!!

2024.05.15 20:53 sookfong A Week In Vancouver Island on a $92,000 Salary (Original Submission)

Please note this is the original submission I sent Refinery29. In the current post, they have given me a second credit card with a 100$ balance, as well as generational trauma from World War II and cut context for other things. I am trying to get that fixed.
Per previous discussion in comments here: The espresso machine is a Bezzera, which ranges from 2-5K. We got ours on sale for 1.7K, it’s a work house and we use it everyday, still hurts that we spent that money on a coffee maker.
I do understand mortgage is debt but when you compare it to rent to a lesser value condo in Vancouver it feels like not debt at all, which is how I tend to think of it. Yes I owe my mortgage but also I get my house instead of renting-which may not have become clear.
Please see in full the diary, below (edit for formatting via mobile)
Occupation: Sr Business Analyst
Industry: Tech
Age: 30
Location: Vancouver Island, BC
Salary: 92,000$ (Spouse makes 60,000$ for a combined income of 152,000$ before tax)
Net Worth: ~ 1.2 Million ( house is valued at 989,000$ currently, we have a combined 150,000 in pension, and ~60,000 in various company stocks, and GICs)
Debt: 3,000$ in a zero interest credit card for a 10 month period. We balanced transferred and pay 400$/month. Debt was acquired in Q4 2023 when we had to buy Snow Tires, and do a full break replacement as well as Christmas. 480,000$ in a mortgage, we refinanced in September 2023 for five years fixed rate at accelerated biweekly, however I don’t consider our mortgage debt due to the equity we are gaining, and that our mortgage for a five bedroom, 3 bath single family home is less than rent for a two bedroom condo in Vancouver
Paycheck Amount (Every 2 Weeks): 2,555$ after taxes. (Just mine). Spouse makes 2,308$ after taxes. Our pay periods are alternating.
Pronouns: She/her
Monthly Expenses Mortgage: 1450$ biweekly (100$ extra to the principal).
Utilities: ~200$ (includes water [paid quarterly], hydro [paid bimonthly], gas, sewetrash [paid quarterly] phone [highly discounted due to work plans for spouse and myself] and car gas) Loan Payments: 400$/Credit Card
Car Insurance: 84$
Life Insurance: 167$ combined (67$ me, 100$ spouse)
Health & Dental Insurance: 60$ deducted from pay (coverage for myself and spouse from my employer. Spouse also has coverage for both of us deducted from pay)
Retirement Contribution: 400$ (Employee matches me), (Spouse has a defined pension through work and contributes ~200$ month)
Union fees: 70$ Spouse
Subscriptions: Crave 22$/month (Recent splurge for Binge watching the Rookie), Playstation Plus 100$ (annual bought on Black Friday Deal), Amazon Prime 80$ (Annual), BCAA 120$ (annual) Gym 30$/month (we both have one so 15$/pp)
Note: My spouse and I have completely commingled finances. I will be tracking both as it’s essentially I spent whatever they spent
Was there an expectation for you to attend higher education? Did you participate in any form of higher education? If yes, how did you pay for it?
There was always the expectation. My father was very clear, we were very smart. There was no way we’d be wasting our potential. He wanted me to be a lawyer, but unlike other immigrant parents, I got to choose my major and went into social sciences and got my masters in history. I deferred my PhD too much so I got dropped by the program.
I chose my university by where I got a full first year scholarship and then after that took about 15k in student loans for my undergraduate. My parents paid my rent and I got a part time job for food.
For my masters, I had a student line of credit and 5 k student loans otherwise it was all my savings and scholarships. With the line of credit, I had a total of 30K in student loans and paid it off in about four years.
Growing up, what kind of conversations did you have about money? Did your parent(s)/guardian(s) educate you about finances?
Save. We talked about how you get a dollar allowance and half of it goes into long term saving with 25% in short term and 25% in spend.
Investing came after I was eighteen. Family would like us to invest in property, however I don’t really want to be a landlord, but also we wouldn’t get to really enjoy profit of owning a rental property due to other family circumstances.
What was your first job and why did you get it?
Ice cream parlour I was twelve and my parents made me get it for responsibility. I lasted three weeks because I hated it.
Did you worry about money growing up?
I grew up thinking we were not rich, because we didn’t get big plane vacations (I didn’t count flying from Toronto to Vancouver every summer as a vacation since we were just seeing family but staying in a house my parents owned) and I had only been to Disney twice.
But we had a big new build house in the rich end of town, my mom stayed home to raise all of us. We had to work for things (like going to see a movie opening night or a new CD) but we always had money and got what we wanted. In retrospect, my family was/is fairly well off.
Both my parents grew up poor, with parents working multiple jobs and different shifts to make ends meet, the strive/drive to not have that childhood, and for my father to be able to retire his parents really impacted mine and my siblings and cousins lives. My father showed me the apartment he grew up in Chinatown a few years back. It’s light years away from the house my grandparents owned when I was a kid and how I grew up.
Do you worry about money now?
Of course. Inflation is real and we are actively planning a wedding for the next year, as well as a baby in the next few years. We also need to buy a second car, so we’re saving for that.
At what age did you become financially responsible for yourself and do you have a financial safety net?
Fully financially responsible? Twenty five. I lived in a family property where I didn’t pay rent in one of the most expensive cities in Canada, so even though I paid all my bills (food and phone), I didn’t have to pay rent. I in fact made money, as I rented rooms out and used the income for house utilities, and paying my student loans down faster. When I moved in with my spouse, I just paid condo fees until we bought our house two years ago which gave me plenty of time to save.
Our financial safety net is family, and our savings. I know my family would bail us out. My spouse’s father would as well. Conversely, we are my spouse’s mother's safety net and we have to keep all our plans in mind that we will be subsidising her.
Do you or have you ever received passive or inherited income? If yes, please explain. Yes, I received 50K from my parents once they sold my childhood home, as did both of my siblings. I have also received 10K from one set of grandparents which paid off my car and part of my student loans when I was 21. I will be receiving another inheritance when probate is done for around ~100K. My spouse also has received inheritance which allowed them to buy their first condo in their early twenties when the market was much better. That condo, 50k, and the subsequent upgrading helped us afford our house.
Day 1
10 AM: I drive to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription. Not how I want to start my Sunday morning but y’know. Normally I’d walk since it’s about 20 minutes but I have a UTI. I’m “lucky” that despite not having a dr because of the health care shortage, my work pays for the Maple app so I could get a dr to write the prescription and order the lab work at 1 am. I’ll do the lab work later this week when I can get an appointment but will take the relief now. Insurance makes the antibiotics free, but I also buy hydrogen peroxide because we’re out and we have a dog that thinks everything is meant to be in her mouth. We’ll buy a bigger one at Costco later. I also bought some oral wound mouthwash because we were out. I come home and my spouse made us breakfast.
Total: 15.90$ paid with debit.
1-2:30 PM: We do our taxes. I have a mini meltdown when I realize the part time bakery job I had for a few months didn’t take off income tax last year, so I owe 800$. Luckily, my partner is getting a refund so we net out positive 400$. The bakery took off income tax in 2022, so unsure why they didn’t in 2023. I made us lunch.
3-6:30 PM: We walk the dog, and watch the Rookie. Some time during that time period, a venue emails us back and is surprisingly affordable at 3k. I also get told that the tattoo artist I want to book with, has not chosen me.
6:30-7:30 PM: I explain what lazy girl dinner is to my spouse and make a lazy girl dinner. After not really grocery shopping since Feb for things besides fresh veg, we need to do a big pantry shop and neither of us want that. We debate about buying a food saver and if we should wait for a sale. My spouse is more frugal than me and has determined we should.
8-9:30 PM: We start season 3 of The Rookie, and then after two episodes we go to bed
Day One Total: 15.90$
Day Two
5:45-8 AM: Wake up and start work. I get up to date with what’s happened on the weekend and check that my automated reports. Sometime before 6:30, I get the kettle on for my spouse’s pour over before I go back to my meetings. There’s a twenty minute gap where I get changed and do my skin care and brush my teeth. I’d love to be a skin care person but honestly I’ve spent too much money on product that I don’t use and that just goes bad. Washing my face and using sun screen is a win.
I also make sure that Spouse’s lunch is in his bag and I get our travel mugs ready. Before, we used to go to Starbucks every day. Starbucks used to do free refills on coffee and tea if you were a rewards member if you bought a coffee or tea so it would cost us $5/day (2.5/pp), and we could get refills all day. While that’s 20$/week, 80$/a month and yes, we could have saved it but back then, that 80$ wasn’t turning the dial anywhere significantly for us—a privileged view.
But now, after COVID where I stopped drinking tea after one day working from home having like 10 cups and thinking I was dying, and Spouse has bought a good grinder and we recently splurged on a stupidly expensive espresso machine we call his Engagement Espresso since it costs the same price as my stupidly expensive ring, we bring our coffees.
8-8:30 AM: We drive to work. Prior to buying our house, we were both work from home and lived in a city with amazing transit. We only needed the one car. Since buying the house and moving to a city where public transit is a joke (the one bus goes past our house every 1.5h), Spouse changed jobs and is in office every day and I have to go in 3 days a week. We need a second car or the e-bike rebate to come through. We debate this in the car, since I’m done at 1 pm, and Spouse works normal hours, I either have to take the bus home, or go to the gym for three hours. Today though, I drop Spouse off. I will pick him up later as he has a half day because of the dentist
8:30-12:30 AM/PM: Work. I find a tech manager and ask them to get me more triple a batteries. Work won’t provide or let me expense batteries for my mouse, despite them replacing my usb mouse with a battery one. The poor admin had to tell me the decision is that we’ll all supply our own batteries. Luckily the tech managers have to have batteries on hand and give them out freely.
I ask my boss how the work from home tax forms work, and he is going to find out.
I run more meetings and work on a request for a dashboard and a business case for a new feature that I have to convince leadership to spend money on.
12:30-1 PM: I drive back to my Spouse because he has a dentist appointment.
While I wait for a spouse, I am incredibly hungry. I’m usually not hungry/don’t eat a proper meal until around 1 in the afternoon and my two granola bars I already ate at the office. I go to the bakery by Spouse’s work and buy a cheese bun for me (3.65$), and an apple pie scone (2.55$) for Spouse as a snack. Spouse points out he won’t be able to eat until after his appointment.
Total: 6.20$ debit
1-1:30 PM: I drop Spouse off, and the car stops working. The engine won’t catch. I try multiple times and then run into the dentist to dramatically announce to Spouse and the receptionists that the car won’t start. Spouse asks me what he wants me to do about this, since he’s about to go into an appointment. A very kind receptionist tells me it might be the alternator. I don’t know what that is.
I go back to the car to Facetime my father. He also asks what I think he can do to help since he lives 3000 km away. Weirdly, and sexistly, I thought a man who grew up at race tracks, in a racing family, or the man who has collected and worked on sports cars for forty years might be able to help.
Spouse texts me to remind me we have BCAA while my father also tells me that. I finally get the engine to catch and drive the very long way home, going the speed limit and getting stuck in traffic, construction and a bus. It takes me 20 minutes to get home instead of 10.
1:30-2:30 PM: I walk the dog, mail a (late) birthday card and then start researching what an alternator is. The car is over a decade old and until the house, the most expensive thing I ever bought at 12K back in 2015. We have the funds for the cost, but it’s my first car and the fact it might be the end of its life is scary.
Alternators can cost between 400-800$ repair with labour, so that’s fun.
My dad calls me back and apologises for asking me what he could do away. He advises me that there’s probably a bald spot on the alternator and advises me to go to the mechanic to check or replace it, if the car doesn’t start again.
I call the mechanic to book an appointment, and to also get the snow tires off and to buy new rims for the snow tires. The mechanic lets me know that the alternator part is 500$, and an hour of labour so with taxes we’re looking at around 700$
That future appointment next week (we’re going down a highway this weekend which requires snow tires) will cost ~1.5K, assuming we replace the alternator.
I make lunch and sigh.
2:30 PM: The car starts thankfully. I drive incredibly slow. I pick up Spouse by idling the car. We get an email back from a venue saying they cost 75,000$ minimum. The timing is hysterical.
Due to the nature of the dentist, Spouse owes 618$, as they haven’t flipped it under my insurance. They split it in half, as he has a follow up in two weeks. After the next appointment they will flip the whole amount under me and we’ll get reimbursed for the whole amount.
Total 309$/credit card.
3-10 PM: We walk the dog, make dinner (Spouse makes white sauce pasta, with chicken and peas) and watch The Rookie. There are thirteen episodes in season three, and we will be busy every night this week besides Friday and Sunday, and I would like to finish season three so we can start season 4 next Monday. I don’t want to pay for more than one month of Crave. We have five episodes left
Day Two Total: 315.2$
Day Three
1 AM: 100$ is automatically transferred from our account to the credit card debit. We have an auto transfer of 100$/every Tuesday to a Visa where we balance transferred both our cards. We have an offer for 0 interest for 10 months, so we did that for some of the bigger expenses (snow tires, break replacement and general Christmas) and are on track to pay it back within the next 6 months. That visa is our emergency card that we just have in the back end and utilise for promos like this. It allows us to keep our two cards balances manageable and lets us pay in an easier way than taking big chunks out of our various savings.
Total: 100$/direct deposit
5:45-9 AM: Work. Meetings, reports, trying to convince a colleague that the process does include them and refusal to follow it means that their requests won’t be done. Spouse has another half day so I can go into the office at my leisure—if the car starts
9-9:20 AM: The car starts, I get into the office and refresh a data flow before a meeting with a new stake holder. It takes longer to drive into work today because the tourists are starting to come and their van builds or campers are not exactly highway speed and with a two lane highway, if you don’t merge over fast enough you’re stuck.
10:05-10:20 AM: Meeting done, car starts again and I drive home for more meetings. The least amount of time in the office is preferable for me.
10:30-11AM : Meeting with my manager where we discuss future salary and promotion. I am due for a promotion in the start of Q2, which would push me to six figures. I’ll believe it when I see it but, I’m really excited at that possibility for my family.
11:15 AM: Spouse leaves for work, we discuss what groceries are needed, as well if he’ll go to Home Depot tonight to buy more clover seeds for the yard, as we need to reseed before it starts raining. I eat a muffin and my dog and cat decide to try and eat each other.
11:15-1:30 PM: Work runs late. There’s some issues with the data and we can’t figure it out. We call it a night, and I’ll record the video presentations tomorrow, once we fix the data.
1:30-4 PM: Nap time! It’s bad for me, but honestly I don’t sleep well during the night so naps are what keep me alive.
4-6 PM I prep dinner (smash burgers and fries), and get chores done and walk the dog.
6-7:30 PM: Spouse comes home, we eat dinner. Groceries come to 96.83 for two 7 pound pork loins, two packs of bacon, chicken nuggets, coffee, pop, 8 pack of peppers, milk, tomato, pickles, rice, avocado, mushrooms, sour cream and lettuce.
Not too bad, we average about 300$/month in groceries because we can buy bulk and have a second freezer.
For the month of March we are currently at 123.61$ for groceries and there is twelve days left. We went on a small weekend away, so we ate out a fair bit but even then our current food budget is 272.27$ today.
Total: 96.83/ debit
7:30-10 PM: Spouse makes a coffee and plays video games with his friends. They do it every week. I have a shower, fold and put away laundry and read in bed.
Day Three Total: 196.83
Day Four
1AM: Our biweekly accelerated mortgage payment comes out of 1450$. I’m tracking it here to be honest on our spending but I tend not to think of it as money spent because in my head it’s already money gone. To pay for a house equivalent in Vancouver, the mortgage would be over 6k. Renting a two bedroom condo would be 3K. It feels like the mortgage is just cheaper rent, even though each time I own more of my house.
5:45-9 AM: Work. I find out the limits of how many people I can invite to a Teams Meeting as well as that the Thursday before Good Friday is a catholic holiday when a few people ask me to reschedule a training forum for over a thousand people. Sometime in there I make us coffee, make sure Spouse has lunch packed (leftovers). Spouse has walked the dog and has the recycling and compost out for pick up. I drop Spouse off at work.
10-11:45 AM: I leave the office for home and more meetings. I walk the dog and go record training videos. I get an email that Amazon is doing their big spring sale. I send a link to a robot mop and vaccum that’s on a big discount to Spouse. We want one, but I’m not in charge of the research on it. I send links to play grounds to my friends with toddlers
11:45-12:30 PM : I shove lunch in my mouth, last night’s left overs. I’m running late, and decide to get myself later by collecting all the random dishes and mugs that just show up places and start the dishwasher. I get to the lab ten minutes early but need to buy gas on the way home.
I tell my team I’ll be MIA for a bit and leave the work phone in the car.
I buy 15.6L of gas for 30$ at 1.879/l it sucks. I don’t fill up because we’re going to my in laws this weekend and there’s a Costco Gas Bar there.
Total: 30$/credit card
12:30-1:30 PM: Work goes long again.
1:30-2:30 PM: Nap!
2:30-4:30 PM: Walk the dog and drive to the gym. I usually go three times a week but with last week’s weekend away and this week’s weird half days from Spouse, today’s the only day. I make it up by doing both upper and lower body and a 30 minute circuit.
4:30-7:30 PM: I pick up Spouse and we go to Costco. We pick up nachos, ham, cheese buns and some other items. We debate buying our friend’s kid a toddler set of clothes and decide no. We end up buying work pants for Spouse, and a garden hose. It comes out to 116.90
I order our Costco dinner of hot dogs and fries for a grand total date night of 6.41$
Total: 123.31/ credit card
8-9 PM: Dance class! We bought a series of six lessons of introduction to ballroom back in December for a new date night idea. We paid 60$/pp and this is the fifth lesson tonight.
9 pm: We’re home, we let the dog out. Spouse spends an undetermined amount of time watching ballroom videos while I sleep.
Day Four Total: 1603.31$ or 153.31 excluding the mortgage payment.
Day Five
5:45-9 AM: Work. All the meetings. Thursday is the meeting day. I debate with a friend what’s the earliest call we’ve had. 4:30 am still wins. I pack lunch for Spouse and his coffee and he leaves. I end up cleaning up cat puke as the cat decides to drink milk from Spouse’s cereal and vomit it up on camera in a meeting.
9-9:30 AM: I make myself a matcha and walk the dog.
9:30-1 PM: Work and I treat myself to a lunch of a cheese bun and ham sandwhich. We used to eat it every Sunday while growing up but the cost of ham has been outrageous. The deal at Costco yesterday was 1.5$/100 g which is really good.
1-1:30 PM: I seal the wooden deer Christmas decoration we bought last year. It sits outside our front door and needs to be weather proofed, and I’ve been putting it off for five months. But the weather is good and we have newspapers. We have left over wood sealer after the sign we bought a year ago so I use that. The dog and the cat both don’t like my wooden deer.
1:30-4 PM: Nap!
4-5 PM: I basically just watch youtube and drink a root beer. I have no energy.
5-6:30 PM: Spouse comes home, we walk the dog and I make dinner (Kraft Dinner and nuggets–I swear we eat veggies but today is not that day). We discuss the possibility of our dog at our wedding as a flower girl, and if she’ll be in a tutu or a cheongsam like me. I am now researching if they make dog cheongsams and if she can match us. The cat, despite all my heart wanting it, won’t physically be there because he will have an anxiety attack and probably die.
6:30-10:30 PM: Board game night! We go to a friend’s to repeat the same scenario we’ve lost two weeks in a row.
10:30-11 PM: I pack Spouse’s breakfast (oatmeal and frozen berries), lunch (spicy tuna and mayo) since he’s trying to go to the gym before work, and feed the animals before we go to bed.
Day Five Total: 0$
Day Six Friday
5:45-9 AM: Work. I have a deep focus block which means I can get the script for the training I have to run. Public speaking is not my strong suit and it’s a group of a thousand people so I’m not looking forward to it. Spouse almost makes it to the gym. I get an email that my new work phone has shipped. I’m surprised because they wouldn’t order us any for the past four years, but I guess my new iPhone will show up next week. I might give my old work phone to my mother in law, since she smashed the camera on the phone we bought her last year.
9-9:30 AM: I walk the dog, make a matcha and make a todo list for what we have to get done before we leave to my in laws tomorrow. I text my mother in law happy birthday, and hope that she got the card in time. She did.
9:30-11:30 AM: My last meeting for the week ends and I’m debating calling it a day so I can nap. Instead I make lunch (cheese bun and ham), text my other mother in law our plan for Saturday, and unload and reload the dishwasher and go back to work for at least another hour.
12:30-1 PM: I shower and do skin care
1-3 PM: Nap! Somewhere in this time FedEx comes and since I’m sleeping, we have to pick up on Monday. I’m not too sure what it is, I assume it’s our custom address stamp from Etsy because that’s the only thing I’ve bought recently but not too sure. I just realized in retrospect, this might be my new work phone.
3-5 PM: I prep dinner (nachos), unload the dishwasher, pack my overnight bag and confirm all our venue tours by email. I start a load of laundry and do a quick clean. I feel like this is not the best image of our diet. I swear we generally eat healthy but we both have been feeling really blah over the past two weeks so have been going for quick and easy over healthy and balanced. I do have three whole peppers and two whole avocados in the nachos though.
5-7 PM: Spouse comes home, we walk the dog, have dinner, and plan out next week. We have a big Wednesday next week (mechanic, I have a nails appointment, dance class), and we are having our friends over for Easter so we need to prep for that. We pack the car so tomorrow is a very easy start.
Spouse also gets paid today. We’re lucky that we’re on alternating pay periods, we used to be on the same and it always felt stressful. Spouse also lets me know his union has secured a 3% cost of living raise to start in Q3. I really like his union for negotiating a base 2% year of cost of living raise, with potential addition raises depending on inflation. It’s a bit away but that’s still good news.
7:30-10:30 PM: We finish The Rookie Season 3 and head to bed. Crave reminds me that I have 10 days until I’m charged again. Sadly, I think we’ll have to pay for 2 months.
Day Six Total: 0
Day Seven Saturday
8:30-9:30 AM: Wake up. No one (except the dog) slept well so we’re not in a morning mood. Spouse makes coffee and walks the dog, while I finish packing the car and give the cat a lot of attention. Our first venue tour is at 11 and the one that is the most expensive (8-10K), but also the one we probably want the most. We live about an hour away but the highway is two lanes and one accident can back everything up for hours.
10:40-1 PM: We visit our dream venue. We stay way longer than expected. Basically if the quote is under 10K, we’ll get it. Just waiting now.
1-2 PM: We get to our in-laws and have a lunch of egg salad sandwhichs. We need to buy gas. My in laws drive us to a pottery painting store.
2-4 PM: We paint pottery. My mother in law only wanted to do this for her birthday. They’ll pick it up in a week after it’s been thrown. I paint a vase (28$), Spouse paints an Easter egg (18$), father in law paints a mug (30$), and mother in law paints a plate (50$)
Total:143.36/credit card
4-5 Pm: We see another venue. It’s an instant no. My in laws decide they want to try Korean fried chicken. We call ahead for take out to get two fries and 16 pieces of half and half. It comes to 50.83$ that my in laws pay for.
5-10 PM: We come back and see that our dog has pooped in their house and also has gotten into their pantry and eaten an entire bag of dog food. It is not a fun night.
We spend the night drinking wine and discussing the wedding and watching TV.
10PM: We go to bed. That’s the end of this week, but tomorrow we will be buying gas and probably lunch for my other mother in law as we will be touring another venue.
Day Seven Total: 143.36$

Note: for some games from humble I might ask for gift links. There is a rumor 3 years ago that humble bans users due to making gift links only. I make gift links every week, never have any issues. I have no idea why humble would ever ban its customers for using a feature it provides to its custimers.

Here is a guide how to make gift links from support.Humblebundle.com: https://support.humblebundle.com/hc/en-us/articles/202712460-Purchasing-and-Sending-Gifts

I do not believe humble teaches you how to make gift links, so it can ban you, lol

2024.05.15 19:36 nednettic Just Got My Bilateral Salpingectomy Done in Michigan!

Hello everyone! I found other posts about people talking about their biscalp experience super helpful leading up to my surgery, so I wanted to post my experience as well! I just had my surgery Monday morning, about two days ago.
I'm a 31 cisgender white woman, and I got my procedure done through University of Michigan Health. Honestly, I had such a positive experience! I've never had any kind of surgery done before, so I didn't know how my body would handle it. I'm also heavier, and I wasn't sure if my weight would be an issue. Long story short, I had zero issues or complications, and my surgery only took 37 minutes!
The entire care team was super warm, and I had a lot of people checking in on me, going over the procedure, and so on. Since U of M Health is a big teaching organization, it felt like I had double the people checking on me - both the seasoned doctors/nurses/anesthesiologists and the younger residents. Honestly, it was more comforting than I expected, and I was happy that the majority of my care team, including my surgeon and surgical resident, were women!
They gave me warm blankets after I changed into my gown, and it took them a bit of time to find a vein for my IV. My hand is a little bruised since they couldn't find a good vein there. I'm actually glad they went with my inner elbow instead - hand IVs suck imo. They gave me Tylenol and anti-nausea meds orally and started the IV.
Then, various people stopped by to review recovery, confirm the procedure, and do the anesthesiology checks. They also took my post-op snack and drink requests! I probably waited like 30 minutes in pre-op, and we actually got to go to the OR ahead of schedule. When it was time to go, things kicked into motion pretty quickly. They gave me some medication in my IV that "would make me feel like I had a few stiff drinks." Things got fuzzy at this point, but I think it was like some kind of anti-anxiety med. They rolled me into the OR, where I scooted over to the operating table. They started doing all their verbal checks, and they gave me a mask with oxygen. I remember being told to breathe deeply, then I think they said they were switching to the anesthesia. I was out immediately, and I remember absolutely nothing past that point!
During my surgery, my partner got text updates in the waiting room, and he went to the in-house pharmacy to get my post-op meds. The surgeon called him when the surgery was over and said it went well! They kept him in the waiting room until I started waking up. The surgery itself only took 37 minutes, and they said I slept afterward for about 40 minutes or so.
When I woke up, I actually felt pretty good! I wasn't in much pain at all, and I was able to have relatively lucid conversations. I got ginger ale, crackers, and graham crackers, and the nurse made sure I took my time waking up. Apparently, I started humming/singing Hot to Go while I was coming to 😂. The nurse took off the various stickers and the puffy leg things they put on you in surgery. I felt like I had to pee, so I slowly got dressed and went to the bathroom with my partner's help. Turns out I didn't really have to pee, it was more just a feeling of pressure.
After I was more awake, my partner pulled the car around and they sent me on my way!
They called the morning after to check up on me. They also gave me laparoscopic photos of the surgery, which I wasn't expecting! They are both weird and fascinating to look at. One of my surgeons wrote, "No tubes!" in one of the post-scalp photos, lol. In my patient portal, there are also fairly detailed descriptions of how the anesthesia and surgery went.
I was prescribed Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Miralax, and five Oxycodone. I've been taking the first two in shifts, and I only take the Oxycodone to sleep. I've taken the Miralax a bit. Granted, I only had my surgery on Monday (two days ago), but I've been able to use the bathroom. I'm also drinking a ton of water, ginger ale, and kombucha.
For recovery, the biggest things have been keeping cats off my lap, avoiding any sort of strained movements, using lots of pillows to get comfy, and working with my appetite. I'm not really nauseous, but only certain things sound good. I've been using a lot of pillows to get comfy on a recliner, and I'm trying to both get up and walk a bit without overdoing it. I have a bit of shoulder discomfort, and my throat is still kinda sore and phlegmy from being intubated. I also just feel generally wiped out. My incisions are sore, but honestly, it's not bad. My abdomen is tender and bloated.
So now it's just the 4-week recovery period. No heavy lifting or strain on the abdomen for 4 weeks, which includes things like vacuuming. And, no using tampons for two weeks.
I don't want to jinx myself, but the whole thing is not as bad as I anticipated. Obviously, everyone's body is different, but I hope this helps put some folks at ease - it can go really smoothly! My surgeon is seriously a wizard. She thought she might have to make a larger incision since I carry weight around my belly, but she didn't! And I can't get over how quickly it went! I appreciate how much information I got about the surgery, too.
I feel lucky that I had such a positive experience. It's a huge weight off my shoulders, and I'm super proud that I took this step!

Oh, fashion, you fickle time-traveling siren! 😏 Let’s warp back to the styles our grandparents strutted because, let's admit it, we're in the throes of a full-blown vintage resurgence, folks!
Alright, people, let's talk bullet points because that's how the cool cats organize their thoughts:
Laces out, frocks on! Ball gowns and lace are storming back onto the scene, not as costume but legitimate #OOTD. You might not be going to the ball, Cinderella, but who says you can't pick up your soy latte in style?
No, you’re not experiencing déjà vu—those icons from the sepia-toned past are paving the way for the era-blending future:
Before you know it, shoulder pads and polyester suits might make a play for dominance. All kidding aside, we seem to be cherry-picking the best bits of past eras, melding them into the eccentric ensemble that is today's fashion tapestry.
So, thrifters and retro aficionados, rejoice! Wrap yourself in the lush velvets, slippery satins, and bodacious brocades of yesteryears and sashay down your supermarket aisles like it's Paris Fashion Week. The past is back, baby—and it’s got undeniable swagger. ✨👠🧵
