S540 driver

Terminal problem! .... command not found

2024.05.05 22:10 UmpteenthSteve Terminal problem! .... command not found

I'm trying to install a printer driver via the terminal in Linux Mint. (I have to do it this way - the Printers app doesn't find it). I've opened the terminal in the folder containing the driver. I've used "ls" to list the files in the folder and the 'install' file is there. I use sudo ./install, but when I enter password, I get "sudo: ./install: command not found. Here's what it looks like: ___________________________________________________________ user@user-ThinkPad-S5-S540:~/Desktop/LabelPrinter-1.1.0$ ls i386 install LabelPrinter.ppd uninstall x86_64 user@user-ThinkPad-S5-S540:~/Desktop/LabelPrinter-1.1.0$ sudo ./install [sudo] password for user: sudo: ./install: command not found user@user-ThinkPad-S5-S540:~/Desktop/LabelPrinter-1.1.0$ ___________________________________________________________
It's the same result if I use the full path to the 'install' file. I've been seeking help on this for hours but can't find a solution that applies. Please? Here's my system info: ___________________________________________________________ System: Kernel: 5.15.0-101-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 11.4.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 5.6.8 tk: GTK 3.24.33 wm: muffin dm: LightDM Distro: Linux Mint 21.1 Vera base: Ubuntu 22.04 jammy Machine: Type: Laptop System: LENOVO product: 20B3A01N00 v: ThinkPad S5-S540 serial: Chassis: type: 10 serial: Mobo: LENOVO model: 20B3A01N00 v: SDK0E50510 Pro serial: UEFI-[Legacy]: LENOVO v: GPET82WW (1.82 ) date: 10/26/2020 Battery: ID-1: BAT0 charge: 47.0 Wh (98.1%) condition: 47.9/62.9 Wh (76.1%) volts: 15.9 min: 14.8 model: LGC 45N1167 serial: status: Not charging CPU: Info: dual core model: Intel Core i5-4200U bits: 64 type: MT MCP arch: Haswell rev: 1 cache: L1: 128 KiB L2: 512 KiB L3: 3 MiB Speed (MHz): avg: 1771 high: 1967 min/max: 800/2600 cores: 1: 1754 2: 1967 3: 1719 4: 1644 bogomips: 18357 Flags: avx avx2 ht lm nx pae sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 ssse3 Graphics: Device-1: Intel Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics vendor: Lenovo driver: i915 v: kernel ports: active: eDP-1 empty: DP-1,HDMI-A-1,HDMI-A-2 bus-ID: 00:02.0 chip-ID: 8086:0a16 Device-2: Realtek Integrated Camera type: USB driver: uvcvideo bus-ID: 2-6:3 chip-ID: 0bda:5720 Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 1.21.1.4 driver: X: loaded: modesetting unloaded: fbdev,vesa gpu: i915 display-ID: :0 screens: 1 Screen-1: 0 s-res: 1366x768 s-dpi: 96 Monitor-1: eDP-1 model: LG res: 1366x768 dpi: 101 diag: 396mm (15.6") OpenGL: renderer: Mesa Intel HD Graphics 4400 (HSW GT2) v: 4.6 Mesa 23.2.1-1ubuntu3.1~22.04.2 direct render: Yes Audio: Device-1: Intel Haswell-ULT HD Audio vendor: Lenovo driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus-ID: 00:03.0 chip-ID: 8086:0a0c Device-2: Intel 8 Series HD Audio vendor: Lenovo driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus-ID: 00:1b.0 chip-ID: 8086:9c20 Sound Server-1: ALSA v: k5.15.0-101-generic running: yes Sound Server-2: PulseAudio v: 15.99.1 running: yes Sound Server-3: PipeWire v: 0.3.48 running: yes Network: Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet vendor: Lenovo driver: r8169 v: kernel pcie: speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 1 port: 3000 bus-ID: 03:00.0 chip-ID: 10ec:8168 IF: enp3s0 state: down mac: Device-2: Intel Wireless 7260 driver: iwlwifi v: kernel pcie: speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 1 bus-ID: 04:00.0 chip-ID: 8086:08b2 IF: wlp4s0 state: up mac: Bluetooth: Device-1: Intel Bluetooth wireless interface type: USB driver: btusb v: 0.8 bus-ID: 2-4:2 chip-ID: 8087:07dc Report: hciconfig ID: hci0 rfk-id: 1 state: up address: bt-v: 2.1 lmp-v: 4.0 sub-v: 500 Drives: Local Storage: total: 476.94 GiB used: 103.89 GiB (21.8%) ID-1: /dev/sda vendor: Samsung model: MZ7LN512HCHP-000H1 size: 476.94 GiB speed: 6.0 Gb/s serial: Partition: ID-1: / size: 467.89 GiB used: 103.88 GiB (22.2%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/sda3 ID-2: /boot/efi size: 512 MiB used: 6.1 MiB (1.2%) fs: vfat dev: /dev/sda2 Swap: ID-1: swap-1 type: file size: 2 GiB used: 512 KiB (0.0%) priority: -2 file: /swapfile Sensors: System Temperatures: cpu: 52.0 C mobo: N/A Fan Speeds (RPM): cpu: 0 Repos: Packages: 2502 apt: 2491 flatpak: 11 No active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list 1: deb https: //mirror.cov.ukservers.com/linuxmint vera main upstream import backport 2: deb http: //archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy main restricted universe multiverse 3: deb http: //archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-updates main restricted universe multiverse 4: deb http: //archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-backports main restricted universe multiverse 5: deb http: //security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jammy-security main restricted universe multiverse Info: Processes: 287 Uptime: 1d 8h 20m Memory: 15.27 GiB used: 7.44 GiB (48.7%) Init: systemd v: 249 runlevel: 5 Compilers: gcc: 11.4.0 alt: 11/12 Client: Unknown python3.10 client inxi: 3.3.13 __________________________________________________________________________________

This model was purchased to replace an IdeaPad S540 with AMD 4800U. A totally fine laptop however I was looking to get into a little more esports gaming. I also still wanted to retain USB C charging and liked the portability and battery life of a laptop with embedded graphics as opposed to the heat and power draw associated with a laptop with discrete graphics.
The laptop is elsewhere named the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 Gen 9. In Australia, to my knowledge, only the IdeaPad Slim 5 Gen 9 is available and only up to 16GB RAM. To me a laptop with highly capable embedded graphics such as the 780M is totally hamstrung by a laptop with only 16GB (soldered, non-upgradable) RAM. I paid about $1450 AUD for this model from AliExpress.
https://preview.redd.it/28ula18d6juc1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ed9cfed1a167885e625a88ddc32a5f7f7641e6e
Shipping was initially delayed for about 5-6 days as the seller explained they had multiple orders due to a recent sale and required additional time for packing. The seller also advised that due to being in a 'remote' area (Gold Coast QLD) I was to pay an additional $30 USD for shipping. After I paid that the laptop was delivered by DHL in about 6 days. I did not have to pay any tax on importation to Australia.
The seller appeared to have added extra padding alongside the laptop to ensure safe delivery. Also included were a couple of accessories and a 100W genuine Lenovo USB C fast charger with AU plug. I was impressed by this, expecting to have to use a travel adapter with the charger.
https://preview.redd.it/nbra4one6juc1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1290cc24af6d89f202c3aecfd08082a56091804
The seller also changed the default language to English prior to despatch. Although helpful, I noticed some remnants of the default language remained, so I opted to install a fresh copy of Windows 11 Pro which activated by default. I did run into a hiccup where Windows could not locate the MediaTek Wi-Fi drivers, so I had to have a copy of the drivers on hand prior to doing the install.
Everything else about the laptop is as I expected. It is fast, quiet and the display is amazing. The speakers (Dolby Atmos branded) are acceptable and overall the build quality is great. At this price, at least for my uses, I don't see any need to spend more money.

Happy birthday to my daily driver: Thinkpad S540 - 10 years old this week!
i7-4500, 8mb, 256gb SSD (upgraded from factory 128gb), Radeon Geforce, Full HD screen (matt effect, not brilliant tbh)
Quite literally used daily - has spent most of its time connected to a OneLink dock so still looking in good shape!
Here's to another 10 years?!

2024.03.27 22:43 JohnxDoc Laptop crashed and network driver messed up

Hello there. A few months ago I bought a focusrite Scarlett solo 3rd gen audio interface with the hope of recording a few things on my Lenovo Ideapad s540. I downloaded the necessary drivers and my laptop crashed. After the crash it started a loop where it would start up crash then start up again. At some point it opened up and ever since the icon that displays the internet connection shows No Internet. I'm still able to use internet browsers download, upload and basically do everything however certain apps, namely Spotify as well as the app that comes with the audio interface don't seem to recognise the internet connection.
I have tried resetting the network drivers, updating even deleting and downloading again but nothing seems to change it. Do you guys have any idea of what to do? (I will take it to a repair shop in the near future)

2024.01.10 07:25 cashewnut1998 BAD_POOL_CALLER blue screen while at uni (not anywhere else). BIOS, virus scanner and network driver have already been updated. What to do?

Dear redditors, The title is pretty self explanatory I think. What should I do about this?
It for sure seems to be a wifi problem, as it does not happened when I turn the wifi off. But then updating the network driver does not seem to fix it. Also, other people do not seem to have this issue whole they use my uni's network (EDUROAM)
I have also done general updates on my laptop. My university's IT desk could not help me with the issue either. What should I do?
For your info: I have a lenovo ideapad s540 and I use ESET virus software (dont know of that is relevant, but just in case)

my device is
Lenovo ideapad s540-15IWL GTX after recent bios update for version
BWCN19WW
the internal HDD (ST1000LM035-1RK172) , started to fail and this took me months to figure the problem but after searching for alot of time i found that this exact HDD model even in different laptop brands like Asus or Dell with bios updates is failing and i mean by failing that you suddenly find your laptop restarts and then the hard disk is not even detected in the system anymore at all and even in the disk management its only detected in bios so i tried to search for older versions on the the support site but they don't have any older versions or even when i requested old ones so if someone could help
UPDATE :
for Lenovo ideapad S540-15IWL GTX
problem solved : the 1 TB / 1000 GB hdd disk / ST1000LM035-1RK172 seagate disk was not detected in the software / device manger / disk management but was detected only on bios, if it was detected it was failing after nearly 5 minutes from powering on the machine
what i did:
1-downloaded all other drivers manually to the newest version from the official site
2- i deleted the disk from device manger without restarting
3- then headed to install bios version BWCN15WW ( make sure bios back flash enabled in bios settings)
i did extend tests, SMART , linear read , etc via tools like Seatools (from Seagate official website ) and Lenovo diagnostics ( found in the drivers for the device in the support site)
and it passed no fails
the storage controller mode was AHCI
boot mode : UEFI
and secure boot was enabled but in the status disabled all other bios values was default values

2023.11.08 20:42 scyTheR28 I might have effed up, not much...

So, 1 year ago, I opened my laptop (Ideapad S540-14IML) to clear the dust in it and I did it accordingly to a video of my laptops model on youtube. Tough it was a repair video, I learned how to open my laptop without damaging it. I wore plastic gloves to not damage any hardware, unconnected the battery and done the cleaning and put the laptops bottom back. I opened it and It inhaled back to life spinning its fans so loudly (normally doesn't do this except updating bios, not even in performance mod) like it was aware that I got under it's skin. Than I saw that my fingerprint wasn't working and logged in with my pin. Came to saw that USB ports was failing and got scared so I closed my laptop, and I put it in its handbag. To my suprise, It didn't got closed and spinned it's fans until it got out of charge while being schorching hot. I charged it up and started it again, and USBs didn't worked again. So I restarted it and It magically solved itself.

Whenever it did this, I restarted and It got solved again. I passed a year or more like this until this night.

It gives (actually three of them in total)
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A USB port reset request failed." this on device manager.
I tried uninstalling them, updating drivers and they didn't work.
At this point, I'm convinced that I burned some... things in it over a year.
My laptop has 2 Usb-A and 1 Usb-C port if that helps...

2023.09.09 02:34 Hakimwithadream Audio Drivers Not Working Correctly in Laptop

My Laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad s540-15IWL , on Windows 11 64bit detailed specs may be found here (however, I upgraded my ssd to a larger one and the ram to 20 gb in total, but I doubt that is relevant).
My problems started a while back, as I was speaking to a friend using my bluetooth headphones, then opted to connect it through the audio jack for better quality. It suddenly stopped working (I forgot to turn off the bluetooth before connecting), neither the bluetooth nor the jack were working. Resetting the bluetooth connection seemed to work, but the jack wouldn't work (the headphones wouldn't be detected and the soudn would play through internal speakers, even though the headphones worked normally on other devices). I then tried to reinstall the driver, multiple times, to no avail. I downloaded the codec from Realtek's website, and that seemed to work for a while, but it would stop working every restart and I'd have to reinstall the .exe I had downloaded from the manufacturer's website.
I found many duplicates of the Realtek (R) Audio device (and microphone, so deleted them). I have spent much of today trying to install and reinstall the drivers. I believe the speaker defaulted to Microsoft's audioendpoint.inf file, but the audio driver for the USB/Jack won't work. Throughout the many different trials today (including recreating the steps above that got it temporarily working) wouldn't budge. I went back to a restore point a couple weeks back (but after the initial conflict), and again, the audio jack still wouldn't detect the headphones (but I could tell the jack was functionally working through static sounds in the headphones).
At this point, I'm unsure what to do now except for a reinstall of Windows 11. I'm also unsure what to do about the audioendpoint.inf driver since that is not allowing me to replace it with the manufacturer's driver, and anytime I would manually try to update the driver it would either tell me it couldn't detect any compatible drivers, or it would tell me that the best driver is installed.
I would prefer to be able to fix this issue without a clean reinstall, just because of the inconvenience, so I am hoping you would help. (I know my files would be recovered, but I don't want to resetup and reinstall the many programs and preferences I rely on).

2023.08.26 04:37 MileyCyrusVidsareRAD No sound out of my speakers using SBX4

So I just got my Soundblaster X4 in the mail and I was ecstatic... that was until I plugged it all in and lo and behold I got no sound out of my speakers. I'm trying to use the sbx4 with my Denon s510 and my pc.

The Wiring:
So i have the sbx4 powered with the usb c that it came with and i am using the optical out on the sbx4 wired to the optical in on my Denon s510. Im wondering if im lacking something or just wiring it wrong. The exact cable I'm using is the optical out and in that match the optical out on the sbx4. On my Pc I have the ," speaker sbx4" chosen and windows shows that the audio is on but i get no sound. What am I doing wrong? Also The Denon s510 is connected to the PC via HDMI.
The drivers are up to date and at this point I'm at a loss. What do I do kind Audio wizards?
edit: P.s. definitely trying to use 5.1 surround sound if that wasn't clear.
edit2: P.P.S. I just plugged in the sbx4 the same way into my other setup, similar equipment and it worked without a problem. The differences are display port direct from Pc to monitor so no hdmi. also the AV receiver is a Denon s540 instead of a s510. So I plugged in the Optical out out of the Sbx4 to Optical in on the receiver and windows 11 on this setup( never mentioned windows 10 on first setup). Will keep working on making it work to my original setup. Thnx and any help helps.

2023.08.20 21:38 Psychological-Rock37 Touchpad driver not showing up and cannot be installed

Hello, I have had my Lenovo Ideapad S540 for about two years now, and a while back, after upgrading to Windows 11, the touchpad stopped working. At first, I just restarted my laptop, but that did not work. Then I just tried to reset the laptop completely, but that did not work. I went to the device manager and looked for hidden devices, but no touchpad driver was shown. I watched a tutorial on how to fix this, and they told me to go to the Lenovo website and install the respective driver for the touchpad. I did that, restarted, and the touchpad was still not working. I went to the device manager again, and the touchpad driver I previously installed was there, but then a couple of minutes later, it would just disappear. I then tried to install the touchpad driver from the terminal, but that also did not work. I have watched so many tutorials on how to fix this error, but none of the methods worked. I then assumed it was a hardware error, so I took it to a professional to get it checked out. He opened the computer up, and the touchpad was connected just fine. He was confused about why the touchpad was not working and gave the computer back. Since I cannot fix this issue, I have been using a mouse, and it just seems so inconvenient. Especially since the Ideapad is a slim laptop and I don't want to carry a mouse with me everywhere. I was wondering if anyone else has faced this issue when upgrading to Windows 11, or in general. And I was wondering if anyone knows alternate methods to fix this touchpad issue.

2023.08.14 23:42 odds-chemist FPS stutters, drops and overall worse performance than before.

UserBenchmark results: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/63450478
Laptop model: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/mn/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-s-series-netbooks/s540-15iwl-gtx/81sw

For context I am on a laptop with:
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1650 with Max-Q design.
CPU: Intel-Core i7-8565U 1.8GHz
RAM: 12GB

The issue I have has been here for a while but has severely increased in frequency and intensity. The issues I face are:
  1. Mouse stutters when used outside of games (ex. browsing, doing work). Not too bad but irritating.
  2. In game (BattleBit, GTA V, Minecraft, CSGO) very bad performance compared to normally. I would say a reduction in FPS that makes games not enjoyable.
  3. FPS stutters in games for no specific reason. ex drop from 120fps to 30fps and then goes back to 120fps within 3 seconds. Also sometimes the lag isn't like a screen freezing but the visuals going into slow-motion for the amount of time of the frame drop.

These issues has been here for a while but got much worse when I updated to the latest NVIDIA drivers for my GPU. Before these issues I would hit over 100fps on GTA V with default settings for my laptop. Same with the other games like minecraft where I with some FPS optimization could hit 500fps.
No external damage has been done to my laptop. So the issue is probably internal.

Methods I have tried to fix frame drop issues have been:
- Updating drivers
- Clearing shader cache
- cleaning disk space
- reinstalling games

If someone could help me figure this one out I would be very grateful. Thanks.

2023.08.13 02:51 Barreterm1 Thunderbolt 4 dock continuously disconnecting and reconnecting from Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i

Hi everyone. I’ve been experiencing an issue with my new Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i and CalDigit TS4 dock where it continuously connects and disconnects when using the laptop’s TB4 port.
Curiously, if you connect a different power source into the other USB-C port at the same time, the dock starts behaving normally. At first, I thought this was because I was using the proprietary Lenovo 140W USB-C charger, but it also works with a 3rd party 100W PD 3.0 USB-C wall adapter.
I hooked up a USB tester hoping to find some clues. Here is the observed sequence of events:
  1. PD is negotiated
  2. The dock briefly connects and the meter jumps to 30-65W
  3. The dock disconnects
There are two PD contracts that I've seen it land on:
  1. PD 3.0 – 98W Max – Target: 20V 3.25A 65W
  2. PD 3.0 – 60W Max – Target: 20V 3.00A 60W
I was also able to source an 11th Gen Ideapad S540 with TB4 and it doesn’t experience the same issue. The tester shows that it negotiates:
  1. PD 3.0 – 98W Max – Target: 20V 4.75A 95W.
My understanding of the USB-C and PD protocols is shaky at best, so I can't tell whether this looks like a drivefirmware issue, or a hardware defect. I’d greatly appreciate any feedback.
P.S. I’ve already covered off all the basics: Windows, BIOS, chipset and manufacturer drivers, and tested different TB4 cables under 1m length.

2023.07.08 08:58 CrazyMinh ToArise: Final dungeon elevator fight softlock (?)

Hey Reddit! I picked up Tales of Arise in the Steam summer sale this week, and I’ve had a fantastic time with the game. I’m currently in the endgame, which is why this post is spoilered, and I’ve just reached Rena.
However, I have a small issue that is currently ongoing. After fighting a subquest boss in the first accessible area, I entered a large circular elevator room that descended and started a battle. I had no trouble with the enemies, but now the fight is still going without any new enemies spawning.
I initially thought it was just because I’m slightly over-levelled and the elevator is on a timer, but it’s been half an hour and the battle is still going.
I can’t flee, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to quickload my last autosave without going to the main menu. I’m also not sure how much progress I’ll lose if I do this. I’m now pretty sure the game is softlocked.
I’m running the game on a Lenovo IdeaPad S540 with an intel i5 with 8GB RAM and a Nvidia MX250 with 2GB VRAM. I have the latest graphics drivers, and this is the first issue I’ve had in the forty plus hours I’ve been playing.
Any help would be very much appreciated
Cheers!

2023.05.30 14:03 Unix4TheWin What is most open, x86 or M2?

Currently my dailydriver is a Lenovo s540 13" with an Atheros N WifiCard, running the FSF approved distro PureOS. I also have av Lenovo T400 which is running Libreboot. Obviously I care a lot about privacy and Free Software.
I also would really like to make the switch to an ARM based computer, but there is not a lot to choose from, at least not if you want something with descent specs. So my question is this, what do you guys consider to be most open, my current setup (Lenovo s540 with N standard WiFi Card) running PureOS but with a proprietary UEFI BIOS, or a M2 Mac running AsahiLinux with open drivers, but with hardware running proprietary firmware?

2023.04.30 18:54 TheTagOfHash_ Video ports on USB-C hub not detected

I have 2 usb-c ports on my laptop. I have a usb-c hub that I use to connect to most of my peripherals. I had disconnected from the hub and was using my laptop earlier today when my audio stopped working. This has happened to me before and my usual fix is to uninstall+reinstall audio drivers via device manager. I did this, but my restart had a blue restart screen instead of my user color. I didn't think much about it and my laptop continued to function normally with the audio fixed. Now when I go to reconnect to my usb-c hub, my monitor does not detect anything. The usb-c hub works fine with another laptop. The ethernet and usb ports on the usb-c hub also work fine.
Things I've tried:
Nothing seems to work. My usb-c hub also has a VGA port and that also refuses to work. Any ideas on how to fix this?

TLDR: laptop restarted and now VGA and HDMI ports on usb-c hub won't function while everything else does

System info:
Windows 10 Home 22H2 19045.2913
Lenovo Ideapad S540-13IML (81XA)

Upgraded Grandma's hand me down from the late 90's.
1GHz PIII (@750MHz, max on the mobo) 192MB RAM 120GB HDD ATI Radeon 7000 64MB DDR PCI (no hardware T&L, ew) Win98SE
Used parts I had laying around. The R7000 is 2x better than the onboard intel video. I also tried a Diamond Savage S540 32MB PCI but it wasn't much better than the onboard intel. Runs Delta Force great. Unreal seems smooth at 800x600. Audio driver was such a PITA to find.
