Haku kahoano army

Biggest shortcomings of heavily featured generals (part 2)

2024.04.11 09:39 Basic_Gear8544 Biggest shortcomings of heavily featured generals (part 2)

The previous post led to a constructive and detailed discussion. many thanks to this insightful community. So here I am with a follow up.
  1. Shin- The MC here is a rather all muscles, little brains type of character. I don't have a problem with his instinctual nature but rather his overreliance on Ten. As the MC i just want more out of him. He's a veteran of almost 14 years now. At this point something happens to Ten and the unit can fold instantaneously. Instinctual types also have a really weird track record in this manga which is also a bit worrying. Another issue is his strength warries in almost every fight. Is it lack of confidence, overconfidence, slow starter or what i don't know. Killed Houken and struggled against Gaku Haku Kou and JKR. That may just be a plot device but..............
  2. Mouten- Lack of firepower. In him as well as his army. Not really expected from a son of Moubu but yeah. Needs a few more Ai Sen's imo
  3. Ou Hon- Makes hasty decisions and puts emotions over winning, practicality or objectivity. I mean going over to Ousen with 10 men. As a son 10/10. See the current chapter and the same thing again. I mean it's natural as a human but these guys are really in a very tough place where such decisions can lead to even unnnecessary losses. I also find his underlings underwelming. This is best shown in the current arc.
  4. Kyoukai- There is this constant lack of ambition that i sense from her. It seems staying by Shin's
side is more important to her. Also though she has enough intelligence she has to really onTen for orders. Imo she is the best of the four but her achievements are the least, isn't that weird. Even before she left her unit to seek revenge. Making her a part of Qin 6 in the future is a bit iffy imo. Kyou or YoTanWa are far ahead of her in thier attitude and outlook. She just seems to be a Houken at some points. (I know heavy criticism coming my way for this)
Looking forward to better and more nuanced points.............

2024.04.09 05:29 One_Spot_9429 Past or Present: Give me Your best Generals Ever

My Personal 5 with a tie
1.Haku Ki (Qin) •Called the leader of the previous 6 Greats. •Never Lost a battle in his military career, which is insane in that era •Crippled the entirety of Zhao when he buried 400,000 Prisoners Alive •Renpa noted he was the most difficult to deal with
  1. Gaku Ki (Yan) •He alone was stated to be Yan’s Answer to Qin’s 6 Greats, and Zhao’s 3 Great Heavens
  2. Riboku (Zhao) he doesn’t have the allure of the others but. •He’s constantly been noted by Qin to be the biggest threat they currently face, and have said he’s the biggest threat Ever. •Was Called the Strongest Ever of the 3 Great Heavens.
  3. Renpa (Zhao) •Renpa is a great strategic general alone, but he’s also can switch to be an instinctive type general if the situation calls for it. •Riboku thought no General Alive could best him. •He’s alone of the physically strongest Generals we’ve seen, along with his war cries enhancing his army.
  4. RinShouJo (Zhao) •Was Stated to be equal to Renpa • His strategic sense Rivaled Hi Kaku and Ko Shou of Qin. • Stalemated the Ouki Army, and Riboku praised his intellect
5- Ouki (Qin) •One of the strongest Generals in pure Martial Might •Noted that riding with his army made them seem also possessed. •Riboku didn’t want to face him head on. •Was called the strongest of Qin’s 6 Greats • Also he has Tou as his right hand someone we know is a general on the level of the 6.
Honorable Mentions: Ko Shou (Qin)- Was so good at strategy it was rumored he did all of Qin’s Strategy. Kanki (Qin)- Respected by Riboku, thought he was possibly the strongest of the current 6, Ousen (Qin) Beat Riboku and is compared to Hi Kaku by Renpa.

2024.04.06 08:00 One_Spot_9429 Who do you think are the 5 Current Best Generals?

I would say these are my 5…
  1. Riboku- Story wise he’s the best Narratively, he’s Constantly regarded as the most dangerous opponent Qin has Ever Faced… and Has taken out some of the best Generals, also being called the strongest of the 3 great Heavens Ever.
2.Ousen- Came up on the spot with a plan to take down the “Perfect” Walls of Gyou, and in turn defeated Riboku in battle. Was compared ed to Haku ki by Renpa who destroyed an entire nation’s will. (Never fights a battle he can’t win)
  1. Yotanwa- Stats aren’t everything but she’s the most well rounded captain… Her Individual Strength made Houken seek her out during the battle of Sai… And She possesses probably imo the strongest overall army being able to beat a 90K army that included a speical mountain tribe of their own, with her 50K army. She’s intelligent but also unorthodox.
  2. Moubu- Moubu has been even in the beginning of the story been Qin’s top asset in a general when it came to the “new generation”. He’s the strongest individual character in Kingdom, being able to defeat Kanmei in a duel and subsequently his army, and eventually overwhlem Man-U
  3. Karin- Of the opposing State Generals besides Riboku, Karin to me stoodout as the most dangerous as an opponent to Qin. We only saw her in one battle so far, but in that battle with the use of war elephants she completely got past both Tou and Moubu and was able to get to Kanki and Mo Gou… Only being countered by Ousen.
Let Me Know What You think (Renpa Obviously top 3 but he’s semi retired)

Etymology and other trivia:

Yugi's Deck

  • Gandora Geas is a reference to Final Geas, a Trap Card used by Yugi Muto in THE DARK SIDE OF DIMENSIONS that was used to summon Gandora Cross, the Dragon of Annihilation, another counterpart to Yugi's original Gandora, the Dragon of Destruction. (A geas is an Irish-folklore term for an obligation or prohibition magically imposed on a person.) Its effect of Special Summoning a monster after using its effect is a reference to how Silent Swordman LV7 was brought back after Gandora used its effect in Yugi's Duel against Dark Bakura.
  • Silent Swordman Zero and Silent Magician Zero are references to Yugi's Silent Swordman LV0 and Silent Magician LV0, respectively. Silent Magician Zero's Level-increasing effect is also a more faithful recreation of how the original one's worked.
  • Tricolore is French for tricolor.
  • Mashimarshmallon is a portmanteau of mashimashi (Japanese for "to increase" or "to enlarge") and Marshmallon, another of Yugi's monsters. It has the effect of Marshmallon Glasses built into it as well.
  • Gold Coffer of Light is based on Yugi's Gold Coffer of Sealing (Gold Sarcophagus in the TCG), whicn in its original iteration was able to prevent the usage of any card sealed away inside it. This card's effect of being able to send back to the Graveyard a monster Special Summoned from there by a Magic Card effect is a reference to when Yugi sealed away his own Resurrection of the Dead to prevent Dark Yugi from using it in their final Duel against each other. Its effect of being unable to be destroyed by monster effects is a reference to how the card sealed inside the original Gold Coffer was unaffected by any magical effect, including Gandora's ability in the manga.
  • Turn Silence is a reference to Yugi's A Leap in Time -Turn Jump-, which was used in his Duel against Dark Bakura to skip time ahead to three of his turns into the future (thus this card's effect being able to raise a monster's Level by 3, similar to how Yugi's Silent monsters gained LVs with each passing turn). Its artwork is a reference to a scene from that Duel in which Yugi's Silent Swordman destroys Bakura's Zoma the Ghost. This card being able to negate a monster effect if activated in response to one is a reference to how the time skipped by Turn Jump effectively prevented Bakura's Zoma from applying its damage-inflicting effect at the end of that Battle Phase.
  • Ties of Friendship is a reference to Yugi's Ties of the Brethren, and has a similar effect to it. This card's artwork mimics an illustration drawn by Kazuki Takahashi and published on the STUDIO DICE official website with a message of support for the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. The illustration depicted Yugi Muto with the original versions of the monsters in this card's artwork, and was later printed in DUEL ART—a collection containing some of Takahashi's illustrations.
  • Silence Towards the Future's artwork and effect are a reference to a scene from Yugi Muto's Duel against his other self in which he uses Treasured Cards from the Heavens (Card of Sanctity in the TCG) to draw multiple cards and power up his Silent Magician.
  • Strong-Hold the Hidden Fortress's title is a reference to when Dark Yugi referred to Yugi's Strong-Hold the Moving Fortress as "the trap of the hidden fortress."

Antique Gear

  • Antique Gear Dark Golem is a reference to the fact Chronos de Medici's Deck was called a Dark Medieval Deck in the GX anime.
  • Antique Gear Tanker's artwork and ATK-increasing effect are a reference to when Chronos equipped his Antique Gear Soldier with Antique Gear Tank in his Duel against Napoleon in the anime.
  • Antique Gear Commander's pose mimics one Chronos himself struck often during Duels, while his bladed weapon is a visual reference to Chronos's Duel Disk, which was built into the Duel Coat he wore.
  • Antique Gear Duel depicts a scene from Chronos's second Duel against Judai Yuki, in which Antique Gear Ultimate Golem attacks Judai's Flare Neos. The phrase Competitive Bout (Kyōtō) is a pun on the Japanese word for "vice-headmaster" (also pronounced kyōtō), referring to the title Chronos held at Duel Academia at the time of that Duel. This same pun is used for the card Competitive Bout - Cross-Dimension (Cross-Dimensional Duel in the TCG).

Phantasmic Performance

  • Refrain (pronounced "REH-FRAWN") is the French word for the English refrain or chorus—the line or lines that are repeated in music or in poetry.
  • Couplet (pronounced "COO-PLAY") is the French word for the English couplet—a pair of successive lines of verse, typically rhyming and of the same length.
  • Both Refrain and Couplet are reference to a rondo—a musical form that contains a principal theme (sometimes called the "refrain") which alternates with one or more contrasting themes, generally called "episodes", but also occasionally referred to as "digressions" or "couplets". This alternation can also be seen in their effects that return them to the Pendulum Zones after a Fusion Monster is Special Summoned.
  • Spectacular Bach is based on Johann Sebastian Bach—a German composer and musician of the late Baroque period, generally regarded as one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music.
  • Flowering Étoile is named after Danseuse étoile (French for "star dancer")—the highest rank a dancer can reach at the Paris Opera Ballet. The star-shaped flowers on her dress are the flowers of the yuzu plant, referencing Yuzu Hiiragi, who played a Phantasmic Performance Deck in the ARC-V anime.
  • A concerto is a musical composition for a solo instrument or instruments accompanied by an orchestra, especially one conceived on a relatively large scale.

Diabellstar storyline

  • Snake-Eyes Diabellstar's stat line could mean it's a reference to Magician of Black Chaos, seeing as how the original Diabellstar is to Black Magician.
  • Diabellze is a portmanteau of Diabell- and Beelzebub.
  • Griare is pronounced "GREE-AW-RAY." The word Trio (Sanketsu) here is a Japanese phrase used to refer to "three great people" of a certain historic era, but sanketsu is also a pun on the phrase niketsu ("riding double on a motorcycle").
  • Grand Pile-Up refers to piling up Xyz Materials under a single monster with its effect.
  • Morrigan is named after the Morrígan—a figure from Irish mythology associated with war and fate, especially with foretelling doom, death, or victory in battle, and is often depicted as a crow.

Raika

  • Raika is written with the kanji for bud and calamity, roughly translated as Scourgebud for the alternate translations above.
  • Marikobe is a pun on the Japanese words igakusa (written with similar kanji as Marikobe)—the Japanese name for the Rhynchospora rubra, a member of the sedge family that features a distinctive spherical spikelet at the end of its stem—and sharikōbe (an alternate reading of dokuro—the Japanese word for "skull").
  • Yahazukamikiri is the Japanese name for Uraecha bimaculata, a species of beetle. It is a slender longhorn beetle with a reddish-brown body and a pair of diagonal dark spots on its forewings that resemble arrow notches (with yahazu being the Japanese term for the nock of an arrow). Its name could also be a reference to yahazu-midare—a type of hamon that resembles of sequence of nocks. Since the Raika theme has a yōkai motif, it is also possibly a reference to the Kamikiri (lit. "hair-cutter")—a Japanese yōkai said to secretly cut people's hair on the head.
  • Yoroitokage literally means armored lizard, referring to the armadillo girdled lizard—a diurnal animal with rows of tough spiny scales all over its body.
  • Mushadokuro is a portmanteau of musha (a Japanese word meaning "warrior") and Gashadokuro (lit. "rattling skull")—a yōkai spirit that takes the form of a giant skeleton made of the skulls of people who died in the battlefield.
  • Ogaminushi is a portmanteau of ogamimushi (a dialectal Japanese term for the praying mantis) and ōkannushi (the chief Shinto priest serving the Grand Shrine).
  • Kusarigami is a portmanteau of kusarigama (lit. "chain-sickle")—a traditional Japanese weapon consisting of a sickle attached to a metal chain with a heavy iron weight at the end—and kusarihebi (lit. "chain snake")—the Japanese name for the viper.
  • Daiohga is based on Dorcus bucephalus, a type of stag beetle also known as the great king (daiou) stag beetle in Japanese. Its name also sounds like a portmanteau of daiou and ogre.
  • Raika Off-Season Profusion (Raikaryouran Kuruizaki) is a play on the Japanese idiom hyakkaryōran ("many flowers blooming in profusion").

Tenpai Dragon/Lustrous Phantom

  • This theme is based heavily on Japanese mahjong, also known as riichi mahjong.
  • Tenpai (lit. "heavenly cup" or "sky cup") is a pun on the Japanese-mahjong term tenpai (lit. "listening tile")—meaning to be one tile short of a winning hand (sometimes called "fishing" in English).
  • The Main Deck monsters are based on the dragon tiles (sangenpai, lit. "three fundamental tiles") in mahjong. Their names ending in dora (from doragon or "dragon") is additionaly a pun on mahjong's dora tiles—bonus tiles that add han value to a winning hand.
  • Paidora comes from paipan—the white dragon tile without any markings (also known as haku).
  • Fadora comes from ryuufa (roughly meaning "green wealth")—the official name for the green dragon tile hatsu, which has the Chinese character for "wealth" written on it.
  • Chundora comes from honchun or hóngzhōng (lit. "red center")—the official name for the red dragon tile chun (lit. "medium" or "center"), which has the same character written on it.
  • Bident Dragion is a reference to the card Trident Dragion, with a bident being a two-pronged spear as opposed to the three-pronged trident. Burgeoning Dragon of Lustrous Phantoms (Sangenshōryū) is a pun on the Japanese mahjong term shōsangen (lit. "little three fundamentals")—a yaku (a certain pattern in a mahjong hand) reliant on all three sangenpai (dragon tiles). The hand consists of triplets of two dragons and a pair of the third.
  • Transcend Dragion's title (Sangenchōryū) is in turn based on a chōsangen (lit. "superior three fundamentals")—a non-standard yaku containing all three quads of sangenpai.
  • The Lustrous Phantom Parlor of Brimming Cups (Sakazuki Michiru Sangensō) is a pun on the Japanese term jansō ("mahjong parlor")—a Japanese venue which offers tables for playing mahjong. The two kanji for Brimming Cups (Sakazuki Michiru) can also be read haiman, similar to the Japanese-mahjong term baiman (lit. "double-full")—a win worth 16,000 points (or 24,000 if the dealer wins). This likely refers to this theme's ability to field massive amounts of battle damage in a single Battle Phase.
  • Opening the gate (Kaimen) is a Japanese-mahjong term for determining which tile the dealing of hands starts at the start of the game.

Yubel

  • Hellgrave Squirmer is based on Grave Squirmer, a monster used by Yubel in the GX anime. Its wings and left arm now resemble those of Yubel.
  • Nightmare Throne is based on the throne on the top floor of Yubel's tower in the Spirit World. The artwork is a reference to a scene in which Johann Andersen (possessed by Yubel) leans on the left side of the throne after his Duel against Amon Garam.

Centurion

  • The II in Gargoyle II is read as zwei (the German word for the number two).
  • Arxila (pronounced "ARK-SEE-LAH") is a twist on auxilia (lit. "auxiliaries")–auxiliary troops in the Roman army.

Varmonica

  • Selettrice (pronounced "SELETREE-CHE") is an Italian feminine noun meaning "selector." The title Voice-Picking Princess (Seisenki) is a reference to the card Voice Picker of Angels and Demons - "Varmonica", whose Voice Picker is also pronounced the same (Seisenki), but is written with a different ki kanji meaning "device."
  • Invitare is Italian for "to invite."
  • Disarmonia is Italian for "dissonance."

Light-Road

  • This theme's inclusion in this set could possibly be a reference to its similar name to LIGHT OF DESTRUCTION, the core booster set in which the Light-Road theme first appeared. LIGHT OF DESTRUCTION was also released next after the core booster set PHANTOM DARKNESS, which was the basis for the previous set PHANTOM NIGHTMARE.
  • Veiss is a pun on vice (as in "immoral or wicked behavior") and Weiß (German for "white"). This monster seems to be a Light-Road version of Snoww, Sorceress of the Dark World, who is also connected to the color white and is present in several card artworks together with Light-Road Hunter Ryko.
  • Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom, especially strategic warfare, the arts, and especially crafts. Her Roman counterpart is Minerva.
  • Aegis is named after an attribute of Zeus and Athena (or their Roman counterparts Jupiter and Minerva) usually represented as a goatskin shield.

Memento

  • Memento Twin Dragon is based on the early-era OCG Fusion Monster Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon.

Miscellaneous

  • Wight Lord (Waitorōdo) is a pun on the Light-Road (Raitorōdo) theme's name, and even has a similar Deck-milling effect. In its artwork, Wight Lord and Skull Dog Marron appear to be wearing armors similar to those of Light-Road Paladin Jain and Light-Road Hunter Ryko, respectively.
  • Golgoil, the Great Demon of Steel is an Illusion Magic remake of the early-era OCG monster Golgoil. Its title comes from the fact the original Golgoil has the words MAJIN OF KOTETSU (roughly meaning "demon of steel" in mixed Japanese and English) engraved on its upper armor. Great Demon of Steel (Kōtetsu no Daimajin) is also a reference to both Great Mazinger (Gurēto Majingā) and Steel Jeeg (Kōtetsu Jīgu), which are two Japanese mecha anime series created by Go Nagai.
  • Moonfang Dragon - Crescent Dragon is a remake of the early-era OCG monster Crescent Dragon (known as Mikazukinoyaiba in the TCG). This monster is meant to symbolize 2024 being a Year of the Dragon.
  • Schlieren (pronounced "SHLEER-EN" and meaning "streaks" in German) are discernible layers in a transparent material that differ from the surrounding material in density or composition. An example of this phenomenon would be the shimerring sunlight on a hot summer day. Its effect is a reference to its flavor text in some of the Game Boy Yu-Gi-Oh! games, where this monster originates from.
  • Nightmare Apprentice has a similar name, stats, and effect as Apprentice Mage of Illusions (known as Apprentice Illusion Magician in the TCG).
  • Dinovader Docus is a pun on dinosaur, invader, and Diplodocus—a huge herbivorous dinosaur of the late Jurassic period, with a long slender neck and tail.
  • Cyclus (Kikurosu) is the Latin form of the Ancient Greek kyklos ("circle" or "ring"). Its title is a play on a fairy ring or fairy circle—a circular area of grass that is darker in color than the surrounding grass due to the growth of certain fungi. They were popularly believed to have been caused by fairies dancing.
  • Chilling Fire (Hieru Hi) is a counterpart to and has a similarly alliterative name (in Japanese) as the card Burning Algae (Moeru Mo).
  • Decanelogue is a twist on Decalogue, another name for the Ten Commandments—a set of biblical principles relating to ethics and worship that play a fundamental role in Judaism and Christianity.
  • Okosama is a pun on okosama (a Japanese polite expression used to refer to children, albeit written in different kanji than this card's name) and oko (Japanese internet slang for being angry). The kanji used in its card name are those for "angry," "young child," and the polite honorific sama.
  • Map Your Way Out (Kyūsureba Tsūzu) is a pun on the Japanese proverb also pronounced the same way, which is basically the equivalent of the English idiom, "Necessity is the mother of invention," meaning that when the need for something becomes essential, you are forced to find ways of getting or achieving it. The last kanji in the card name is the kanji for "map" or "diagram"—this and its artwork are a reference to the anime/manga series Eyeshield 21, where the protagonist would sometimes imagine a mapped-out route through the opposing players that would lead him to a touchdown. Kyū is also the Japanese pronunication for the number nine, referring to its effect of wiping out the opponent's field and Graveyard if a player uses its effect while their opponent controls 9 or more monsters.
  • Blinkout is a pun on "to blink out of existence," link (referring to Link Monsters), and possibly blackout.
  • Metatronius is based on the Ancient Greek metathronios, which can be translated as "one who sits behind the throne." It has been suggested this phrase is the origin of the name Metatron—an archangel in Christian and Jewish folklore.
  • Boot Tracks in the Snow, We Follow Them with Our Steps, One by One They Go (Yukigutsu no / Ato Ou Hitotsu / Mata Hitotsu) is written as a haiku—a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five, traditionally evoking images of the natural world. Its effect also mentions the numbers five, seven, and five in that order.
  • Zoma the Earthbound Ghost is a combination of Dark Bakura's Zoma the Ghost and Call of the Earthbound Spirits. Its effect to inflict damage equal to double the ATK of the attacking monster is a reference to the original depiction of Zoma the Ghost in the anime and manga, which had a similar effect to inflict damage equal to double the ATK of the monster that destroyed it at the end of the Battle Phase.
  • Terrifying Simultaneous Fixed-Point Cannon Equations (Renritsu Hōkoteishiki) is a pun on the Japanese term for simultaneous equations or equation system (renritsu hōteishiki)—in its simplest form, a set of two equations with two variables. The ritsu in renritsu has been replaced with the second kanji from senritsu ("terrifying"), and the hōteishiki meaning "equation" has had the kanji ko ("cannon") spliced in-between, and the teishi part has been replaced for the teishi meaning "fixed-point." Its effect can be expressed as the equation system {2x + y = a; x + y = b}, where 'x' and 'y' stand for the number of Xyz Monsters and Fusion (Yūgō in Japanese) Monsters, respectively.

V Jump March 2024 Edition bonus card

Etymology:
  • This card's name is taken from a line usually said when Resurrection of the Dead was activated in the Duel Monsters anime and manga: "I activate the Magic Card Resurrection of the Dead!" Its artwork is taken from a scene during Yugi's Duel against Pandora in Battle City, in which both he and Pandora use their own Resurrection of the Dead at the same time to revive their Black Magicians from the Graveyard. It being a Quick-Play Magic Card is a reference to the fact all Magic Cards functioned like Quick-Play ones in the manga (and sometimes in the anime).

2023.12.29 01:05 tulanboy I JUST NOTICED THIS

I JUST NOTICED THIS
I just noticed that Haku Kisai who had to surrender after Go Kei's death js the same guy who has been killed by Kanki in a Mou Gou vs Ren Pa war. It was also somehow spoiled that he would appear some day in the future
That's all. Thanks!

2023.12.08 21:48 azure-flute A Comprehensive PCGF 2023 Voter's Guide

A Comprehensive PCGF 2023 Voter's Guide
Player’s Choice Godfest is an annual event in Puzzle & Dragons where players can vote in their favorite cards to be featured in one big godfest. This event for 2024 is similar but different to the usual PCGF: while we do get to vote in our favorites by category, there are new categories added for specific events.

PCGF works as so: all eligible cards are divided into groups based on their series, such as pantheons, Godfest Exclusives, and so on. Larger groups have multiple pages to pick cards from, while smaller groups are on only one page-- and you get two votes to cast per page.
You’ll be able to select more than 2 pantheon cards, but only 2 cards from, say, 7-Star Godfest Exclusives. Every vote counts: the top-voted cards are then put into a 10-stone godfest that will run for a few days.
Pantheon cards will have quite a few representatives, while the Godfest Exclusives will have fewer representatives in comparison. Cards from events such as Mystics & Spectres or Sacred Dragon Relic Saga will have only their top 3 most-voted cards featured.
Try to vote according to these principles: your votes really matter for Godfest Exclusives and event cards!

All that said… it’s easy to vote for your favorites, but I’d like to take the time to present my formal opinion + suggestions on where your votes could go.
This is based on nearly 10 years of actively playing Puzzle and Dragons, taking into account current top leaders and endgame dungeons as well as general use across different combinations of teams and dungeons.I also try to keep newer players and not-quite-endgame content in mind as well for these kinds of overviews. (So please don't complain if "all of these aren't for endgame content and are useless".)
I won’t stop you from doing whatever you want with your votes… but if you want suggestions, help, or just a long-time player's thoughts, keep reading!

This is a long overview, so please CTRL+F one of the below terms if you’re looking for a specific series!

Illusionary Artists Mystics & Spectres Dragonbounds & Dragoncallers Sacred Relic Dragon Saga

Pantheons

While a lot of pantheon cards have use in one form or another, whether as subs or equips or even sometimes leads, some are a lot better than others.
Due to the large amount of these cards, you’ll likely have more than a few votes at your disposal to use, so I’ll take care to point out some of the best options for those votes.
tl;dr My personal picks include Amaterasu, Karin, Haku, Leilan, Hamal, Diaochan, Tsukuyomi, Susano’o, Orochi, Ra, and Hino Kagetsuchi, with honorable mention to some Samurai Series 3 guys.
You have 8 votes to spend in this category.

I’d like to first highlight the ones used for the best Monster Exchange “evolutions”, such as Karin Dragon and others.
Amaterasu, Karin, Haku, Leilan, Hamal
Amaterasu Dragon is a very strong multi-purpose cleric, providing fantastic stats, utility awakenings, and an active skill that clears binds and unmatchable status but also a 2-turn 50% shield. Amaterasu Ohkami as a base card is also fairly strong as a cleric, and she has multiple equip evos that could see use.
Karin Dragon fits on any team that can use her strong damage and support for Water, Dark and Wood attributes, and is particularly friendly to top-tier contenders Grannerv and Kurotobi right now. And if you roll multiple Karins, all the better... Karin Dragon's evolved active skill systems at 3.
Haku Tiger hits incredibly hard, even harder than Karin Dragon in supergravity, and has potential play on any Dark teams or other teams that might need her void pierce effects.
Leilan Bird is a Fire-type cleric that hits incredibly hard in the right conditions-- finding popularity on teams like Seawolf+Daytona, Clive and Shana. Her 5* rarity means she fits very tidily into rarity-limited leader clauses, unlike Amaterasu Dragon above.
I'll also mention that Leilan, Haku and Karin also all have their Story mode evolutions, which are very accessible and easy-to-use leaders for newer players. If you roll any of them, I definitely recommend looking at their Story mode evos!
Finally, Metal Hamal is a Swiss army knife type card for any Dark teams, providing a ton of orb generation and positive buffs in a low-cooldown skill while its awoken skill kit has similar versatility. Some of you might raise eyebrows at its active skill deleting Heart orbs, but I’ve played a lot with this card and it absolutely performs.

Secondly, let’s look at some useful subs.
Diaochan, Antares, Tsukuyomi, Susano'o
Diaochan has always been a unique card with a lot of punch in her 2-turn active skill, which clears up a few turns of awoken bind and unmatchable, but also increase orb movement time by a couple seconds. The short cooldown of this skill makes her extremely useful and splashable on all sorts of teams, and her awakening kit of Ls (for assist void latent), skill boosts and Blind resist make her even more of a contender.
Antares not only exchanges for Metal Antares, which is a cool card with a cool equip, but also notable is the fact that he’s a cool sub for any Fire “brick” teams. He creates a ton of Fire orbs and heals you to full and hastes all at once, that’s a lot of oomph in one skill. He does have to compete for this niche against the fabled Shiva Dragon, who makes a preset 12 Fire orbs ready to be swiped… but Antares does things a bit differently, and because of this + his use as an exchange, I think he’s worth mention.
Tsukuyomi is an alternate to Diaochan, with an active skill that clears up all turns of awoken skill bind and unmatchable, but also provides a looping buff of 5 seconds movement time and a full board enhance. That's a lot of stuff in one active skill, with a longer cooldown than Diaochan but with that cool looping buff. They also have fair damage outside of supergravity, a lot of movement time to help you navigate the board better, and some neat equips that might be worth making if you have extras.
Susano’o has seen a fair amount of play as a strong support card, bringing skill boosts, Blind resist, team HP and a shield+haste active skill. He doesn’t hit particularly hard, but it’s hard to mistake the usefulness of that active. He also has a great equip evolution!

Lastly, for utility cards and things useful for their equips…
Kagutsuchi, Viper Orochi, Ra
Kagutsuchi is an easy and fun farming card: you match 5 orbs and it slaps everything on the field with 3 million damage. It’s great for clearing through those Normal Dungeons that might’ve reset for you… or for farming daily evo mat dungeons, maybe?
Orochi isn’t anything too special in its base form, but longtime players know the value of the eight-headed serpent’s active skill, which is a long delay. Its equip has a 4-turn delay on it along with some Team HP and Team RCV, giving you easy access to something that might help you set up on the first floor of a difficult dungeon. With all the transforming cards around, delays can be crucial.
Ra, like Kagetsuchi, is a long-beloved farming tool: his active skill does “set damage” like Kagetsuchi’s 3 million set damage. You really can’t beat being able to just click a button and clear a floor, you know? One of his equips does 777777 damage to everything, the other does 3 hits of 770000 on single targets. Pretty cool.

Tokugawa Ieyasu, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Takeda Shingen
Somehow I overlooked these guys and I'm editing them in now, but they're great for their equip evolutions. Ieyasu's comb is a gamechanger for any Dark teams that need some extra oomph, letting you change a card's subattribute to Dark and giving them another VDP. Hideyoshi's comb is the favorite of any Light L teams everywhere, giving you a lot of extra damage and a 3-turn delay. Lastly, Shingen's comb gives a valuable Fire subatt (great for Seina teams), some supporting awakenings and a 75% shield for 2 turns.

Those are all what I consider the “best” of the votable options in this division. There’s a lot of others with useful equips, utilities, some cards that are just straight-up nostalgic too! But give these all some consideration: Pantheon cards are going to happen to whoever rolls, whether in small or large amounts. We want even those to be useful!

6* Godfest Exclusives

Surprisingly, we have more 7* GFEs than these. Weird how that works out, isn’t it? A lot of these have a myriad of uses thanks to equips and recolor forms, but aren't particularly as gamebreaking as later entries. I'll cover their general uses and link recolors if you're curious. You have 2 votes to spend in this category.
Aten, Camilla, Kamimusubi, Dark Kali
Aten has a literal rainbow of evolutions, with its Water evolution being a solid looping shield with great awakening skills, and its Fire evolution giving a 2cd full board unlock + change. Thanks to recent buffs, all of Aten’s evolutions have potential to hit incredibly hard even in Supergravity content. Aten’s a must-have for the voting in this category.
Camilla is the only newer 6* GFE that I think is worth considering a vote for. Why? It’s all about that silly amount of Dungeon Boost awakenings, which slightly increase the Coins and EXP dropped from a dungeon, as well as generally increasing the chance of eggs to drop from dungeons in general. Combine that with her “bypass damage voids + deal 5m damage twice” active and you have a useful farming tool.
Kamimusubi shines brightest in her 10dra evo, a special evolution that hits reasonably hard and covers all your cleric needs at once. But also worth mention are her two recolor evolutions, where her WateFire recolor has a useful combination of buffs and debuffs all in one 3cd skill, and her Wood/Light recolor has seen a bit of play as a weird scaling lead with a strong active.
Dark Kali is a rainbow card that's been around for a good long time. Nowadays, it's mostly about her Mega Awoken form being a strong skill boost stick with decent damage, and having multiple equips like the 4-turn-haste spear and some jewelry that makes Guard Break surprisingly accessible for anyone who needs it. Her Fire recolor has a Heart L to even more support rainbow teams with an equally spicy equip, and her Water form is just... okay, I guess.
Fenrir Viz, Kanna, Raijin, Ame no Minakanushi
Fenrir Viz started off as a niche Jammer-using card, turned into an anti-God nuke, and has found a new place as a buffer for Aggregate and any teams that can handle some occasional Jammers. Its Mega Awoken form is the one draw here, smacking God types with the force of a thousand suns while giving a constant-uptime movetime and RCV buff. This makes it both a great assist base as well as a helping hand against debuffs. I’m a fan of the Mega Awoken forms’ equip, too: three team HP, god killer, and a multipurpose active? Sign me up.
Kanna has seen success in endgame Aggregate builds thanks to her strong active skills that, if you have two Kanna in the team, have a nearly constant uptime. (She also hits pretty hard with those 10cs and Levitate!) Very cool card that’s become a lot better with recent buffs, and really she fits on any Light TPA team or TPA-centric Dragon team.
Raijin is somewhat similar to Dark Kali above-- used mostly in one or two archetypes (Light TPA and Rainbow here), lots of recolors, lots of equips. Her Light revo isn't a bad common choice for Daytona teams, and her Fire recolor's equip is really strong.
Ame no Minakanushi has the same deal as their friend Kamimusubi going on-- multiple forms, lots of potential uses. Their Mega Awoken form has decent bulk and provides a looping shield, their Fire/Water form is similar to Kamimusubi's in the sense that it does a little bit of everything with a short cooldown active, and their Light/Wood form hits hard with a unique orbgen. Also, kind of a cool Mega Awoken equip with bindproof + cloud + looping shield skill.

7* Godfest Exclusives

Hoo boy. We have a lot of these... but only 2 votes to pick from all of them. A lot of them have use, but I'll cover what are probably the generally most useful for everyone. If none of these appeal to you, that's fine-- do some research and you'll probably find some that you like.
Hikoboshi, Grannerv, Lavril
Hikoboshi systems at 3 and hits like a train even in Supergravity, and has a lot of friends in the Ultraman collab that he can play with; he's also a straightforward leader for newcomers and pairs well with his wife, Orihime. Grannerv has caused the emergence of the Water + Dark TPA archetype, and is a must-have if you want to play anything like that. Lavril is strong support for rainbow teams with her side-evolution, works as a leader, and has a lot of useful equip forms too if you can't find purpose for her in her main forms.
Royal Oak, Nautilus, Daytona, Blackbird
Yeah, the watch series is all still good. Seawolf is exempt because it just really isn't seeing use anymore, compared to Nautilus who is still very easy to build and play + sees some use with its pilot, GS Nautilus, as a friend leader. The other three are still all pretty strong, especially Daytona and Blackbird. Either way, all of them are pretty straightforward with large sub pools.
All of this series also have standalone evolutions that don't transform but provide various cool leader skills and active skills as utility, and all of their equips are... okay, I guess.
Finally, two cards that everyone wants at least one of:
Saline, Veroah
Saline is special and coveted for 2 reasons: 1 being that her leader skill has a significant Rank EXP multiplier if you go into a dungeon with her as a leader, and 2 that she has a convenient fullboard change skill that you can just swipe. You want to make the climb to rank 1000, or even 1100 and beyond? You’ll want Saline. (Also her equip has Dungeon Boost as an awakening, that’s useful too.)
Veroah is similarly useful as Saline, but for different reasons: her leader skill increases the drop chance of eggs in dungeons. If you’re looking for a healer girl or certain unusual dragon, Veroah means those odd-chance drops are more likely to happen. Pretty cool! I think her Dark/Wood evo, the one with the evolving skill, also has play on Dark teams, and her equip has a bit of Dungeon Boost on it, just like Saline's. That’s a lot of uses!

8* Godfest Exclusives

We don’t have awful many of these, unlike the 7*s. You have 2 votes for this category.
Raffine and Alexander are both fairly well-distributed already with their freebie exchange tokens, and I personally don't believe that Kano+etc are that worth voting for right now based on their sub pool. That leaves us with 3 options...
Royal Oak & Nautilus, Daytona & Seawolf, REMdras
TPAs, Ls or rainbow: pick two.
All three are great and can clear a lot of content-- and all three of them have somewhat finicky teambuilding. But don't let that deter you from the things they can do.
My personal favorite is REMdras because rainbow + Dragon & Machine types is a fun archetype, and because they don’t stop existing as soon as they get a 100% gravity dropped on their heads. They don't have as much support here in NA as they do in JP, but I still believe in them!

Illusionary Artists

An event full of strong cards, but what rises to the top is a combination of leaders and interesting utility. The 6*s are easy enough to get, so focus on the 7*s. (Besides Kaishu. He's not great.) You have 2 votes for this category.
Atelie, Prim, Elizer
Atelie remains a force with her powerful scaling-by-TPA-match rainbow leader skill, which despite having fallen off somewhat, continues to blast through endgame. Prim plays completely differently but has the same scaling power to punch a lot of dungeons incredibly hard… and despite her shield being only 75%, she’s gotten Levitate as an awakening to make her even more absurd.
Elizer isn’t so much a lead (though you can try if you want) as a fascinating equip: it has two -SB but full immunity to Jammers and Blind as well as Cloud resist, all on top of a full cleric active. She also gives a fun BGM set if you roll her, so I guess there’s that?

Mystics and Spectres

You might see this coming from a mile away, but, consider: Mystics good. Roll for Mystics and solve all the mysteries of the universe. You have 2 votes for this category.
Seina, Mikage, Yukine, Ryumei
From the start, Seina has been an aggressively strong contender in the Fire department. Her bulk, ease of activation, and easy teambuilding made her a great leader. With recent buffs and newfound girlfriend friend lead Yura, she can rip through Unknown Nova and beyond without too much trouble. She also has not one but two very strong equips that do rather different things… so ideally you want at least four Seina, two for a team and two for equip evos. (The Mystics & Spectres story dungeon ran in JP during their PCGF, so keep an eye out if you want that cool sword equip.)
And I know you’re all gonna say it, “of COURSE u/azure-flute wants us to vote for Mikage”, but… he’s good. Mikage is still pretty good. Though he struggles from lacking key subs in NA that he has in JP, he can still clear pretty much everything with the right teambuilding and skill. (And I mean that, I have the receipts.) There's a lot of very strong Dark-type subs that work well with Mikage, so teambuilding isn't exactly difficult for him. And even if you don’t want to play him as a leader, he’s a nuclear bomb of damage on any Dark team that’ll have him. Mikage’s equip is also a neat little thing, combining full cleric stuff with a 2-turn delay on top of SB/Dark OE/Team HP/two killers! It’s unique and multipurpose, even if you just want something to really kill Attacker and Machine types.
Newcomer Yukine isn’t a leader, but a sub with a lot to do. On a 3-turn cd, she makes a special Water-Dark-Heart spinner, buffs movement time and pierces damage voids all at once for 1 turn. This is particularly valuable to Grannerv and Kurotobi teams, who need as much utility as they can get. I personally don’t suggest voting for Yukine just because of her use as a sub on high-profile teams, compared to how useful Seina and Mikage are in comparison… but if you need her, or know people who do, it might be worth a try. Her equip is also okay, being very similar to Amaj's equip but with a 3-turn delay on it. So even if you don't have a Water team to put her on, she's still useful.
Finally, Ryumei is fine as a lead, but more importantly, he has a very noteworthy recolor evolution. If you missed out on Pattie, or just need a support card that gets past absorbs + provides a lot to the team, consider Ryumei as another answer to your problems.

Dragonbounds & Dragon Callers

DBDC isn’t exactly the best pool of cards, so I’ll keep it short and sweet. You have 2 votes for this category.
Kurotobi
The primary card of interest in this lineup. Since his release in the last DBDC run, Kurotobi has become one of the most powerful cards in the game, able to hit some kind of absurd damage with a scaling TPA active that pairs with Grannerv perfectly. He’s easily the best card in DBDC, bar none.
… So what to do with that second vote?
Highren, Rehven, Ideal, Valeria
Here’s four options based on the other good stuff in the event. Highren has a variety of evos, as well as a solid equip, that lets them cover a lot of weird niches at once. (Also they’re so cute!) Rehven has an incredibly strong equip that fits tidily on almost any team, though that’s where the use ends for him. Ideal is a rainbow lead/sub that, across her many forms, fits a lot of different niches, from leader to spinner support to absorb null. Finally, Valeria is classically a skill boost stick, but that's not necessarily a bad thing... also she has recolors I guess?

Sacred Relic Dragon Saga

Unlike the other events, there really… isn’t a must-have from this series. There’s some cool utility cards that I recommend voting for, but unlike Kurotobi from DBDC and many 7*s from M&S, there’s nothing super polarizing here. You have 2 votes for this category.
Sandra, Polowne, Grigory
Sandra’s a newer addition to SRDS and is fairly strictly “rainbow utility that hits rather hard”. I feel like she exists to heavily compliment REMdras: her post-transform skill handles an effect that REMdras’ doesn’t, she gives Fire and Water attribute representation, and she does numbers even in Supergravity. For any rainbow enthusiasts, she’s pretty neat. If you play REMdras, want REMdras, or have any interest in rainbow, please consider her.
Polowne is a fairly old card that’s pure support: she handles attribute+damage absorb nulls in one skill for a few turns, and nowadays she also clears binds and unmatchable status too. Team HP is always welcome on any build, and she has an L post-transform to handle assist voids. Though some of us are probably tired of rolling her already, yeah, she’s still useful.
Grigory is, at his base, a Fire/Wood TPA-based card, which is pretty alright, it works with Myllie for example. But it’s his recolor that makes him interesting, being a WateWood shield loop card with a surprising amount of damage going on. I feel like he’s not as good on Grannerv teams compared to Sekka, but he’s a worthwhile sidegrade to Blue Aten and Mega Awoken Ameno, and his damage being mostly 10c means he can be used on other teams too. He’s cool, I guess.
If you don't care for any of these, Dyer is also a passable okayish pick for rainbow leads, and Lisette... has some meme potential? Really, Relics just feels overall very meh to me, even with recent buffs.

And many, many pages later, that’s all! Even if you’re still determined to vote for your favorites above all else, I hope that you’ve come out a bit more educated on what your votes might be worth, and maybe fancying new team or sub ideas in the process. Good luck rolling in PCGF when it releases!
If you have any questions, concerns, or need for clarifications, leave those in your comments here.

2023.11.28 22:29 Prestigious-Taro6460 Jin & Tan Hango War!!!!!!

I have been waiting soooooo long for a moment for JIN & TAN since Hara teased about their power. As we all know Jin's & Tan's father "Sougen" was a part of the Duke Hyou army and was the commander of the special calavary archer division known as "Azura bows", with his crown achievement being slaying Duke Haku of Wei (also a memebr of 10 bows) which established his place within "China's 10 bows".
https://preview.redd.it/dapwrxkem53c1.png?width=482&format=png&auto=webp&s=a98462fe91823d7b835f64c0093d9d3c84217688
As we can see in the pic above Sougen is by no means small he is approx shoulder height with Duke hyou when mounted on a horse and if their legs length is proportional to the actual height he should be around shoulder height when stood up normally meaning he has a respectable frame. Jin obviously did not inherit his genes when it came to his build however Tan deffo did has it is shown have huge and muscular he is, this gives us a sligth insight to their abilities.
Jin has decent power in his arrows as shown when he pushes Jyoukaryuu's glaive back when shooting but his accuracy is on a whole different level shown in the "Seige of Retsubi" as he is able to target specific officers when shooting his arrows, based on what we can see from where they shoot a normal archer only sees small dots which are the soldiers, due to the archer borther's insane eyesight they are able to see the soldiers faces but based of on this we can easily say this is prob 250m+, it was said the the best within the ten bows could hit the target 9/10 from 500 paces away which = approx 333m meaning Jin was able to aim for specific people even during hella long range battles!!

distance during Retsubi

500 paces away

Example of what jin could do, later on it is noticed by Yotanwa that JIn is able to aim for them specifically
Tan on the other hand has decent accuracy but what stands out is the power of the arrows when he puts his mind to it, the best example is during "Shukai Plains" on the 15th day when after Jin went to Karyoten's rescue get knocked out trying to save her as Tan pulverises the enemy's head, his whole head disappears when he is hit.
Look at the guys arms

Look at the POWER!!!
All of these teases of their powers are insane which hypes me up for this war soooooo much i cannot wait to see their contribution during the "HANGO Campagin" since we have not seen really anything since the 15th day of the shukai plains battle they deffo gonna destory some Zhao commmanders this battle

!!!! PUT SOME RESPECT ON THE ARCEHR BROTHERS!!!!!

2023.11.03 12:33 _PoiZ Obito killing that many mist anbu is not because they are fodders

I always hear that obito killing that many mist anbu isn't a fest because they were plot fodders but think about it people like zabuza or chojiro etc. are anbu level and not everyone is so talented like haku and even haku probably couldn't beat obito. So just think of an army of talented mist shinobi attacking someone who can just phase through all attacks and use wood style, tell me one mist shinobi who could do anything against obito. I find it believable that he killed that many anbu level shinobi.

2023.10.19 13:40 titjoe Which members of a couple will be strengthened and which ones will be weakened by their relathionship ?

There's actually a lot of couple on that battlefield this time :

We can add to that Bi Hei/Tou Bi even if Toubi isn't here, Bananji and Bafuuji but it's a fatheson love, and Kyourei and Kou but they didn't declare to each others and strangely enough, when their couple had some spotlight in all the previous arcs, so far no reminder of it in the current one.
The story put a lot of emphasis on them and their relathionship in the previous chapters. It seems that it will an actual important theme of the battle.

So now the question is the one Kyoukai and Shin asked to themselves during Bihei's marriage. Who will be stronger because of that and who will be hindered by it ? Shin conceive it as a motivation to fight harder because they have something precious to fight for when Kyoukai thinks the fear to loose the other will put too much pressure on them and will cloud their judgement. We can say a good representative of those two aspects is Ryuu Haku Kou who fell into an obvious trap when his son was captured but fought like a demon because of that. Who will be in the first category, and who will be in the second ?

My prognosis :

-Shin : Stronger. He never really had a judgement to loose in a first place, he works on instinct and emotion and not on common sens so it's not a trouble to loose his none-existent common sens.
-Kyoukai : Weaker. Both are right about their statement but fail to see it doesn't apply to the other because they work differently. Kyoukai is usually calm and collected and that's an essential quality, but she can easily loose her nerves. Since Shin's declearation, she seems very insecure. To see Shin in big danger will probably lead her to do stupid things or to not handle the pressure.
-Riboku and Kaine : weaker. Riboku already almost lost his life because he couldn't let Kaine behind, Kaine is way too much obsessed with Riboku for her own good as a commander and now that she knows it's mutual she seems unable to focus on the battle itself.
-Sou'ou and Shiryou : stronger, that's an old couple who certainly faced deadly situations several time together and must have learn to erase the weakness of their relathionship, they will not loose their shit under pressure. They will for sure needs to fight at their best while keeping their cool if they face Ji Aga.
-Kitari : weaker. The manga set up that she will fall into a trap (probably bringing all Yotanwa's army with her in it) because she will try to rescue Heki. She reacted very poorly at the death of her brother (before Heki's intervention), she seems pretty unstable emotionnaly, her love for Heki will conduct her to make mistakes.
-Heki : stronger. Heki is an average dude , but he knows to remain collected in very stressfull situations. And the moment where he is at his best (against the quarongs for example) is when he is emotionnaly involved.
-Bananji and Bafuuji : stronger. It's pretty sure one of them will die and the other one will go berserk after this death and will turn the tide. We know Bananji is an entire different person when he is pumped up, the son is probably cut from the same cloth.
-Bihei : stronger i guess since Toubi is not around to make him loose his mind.
-Kou and Kyou Rei : Stronger i would say, Kyou Rei doesn't seem insecure about love in contrary of her big sis, even if she is still emotionnaly unstable (as we saw at Eikyuu). Kou is a gigachad, there's no way he will be weakened by something that futile.

2023.10.17 16:18 slowfashconnoisseur Fatigue shirts, or your jeans best friend. An overly lengthy overview.

Fatigue shirts, or your jeans best friend. An overly lengthy overview.
Preamble: while I have taken a bit of a break in from denim, but I realised that when I take my kid to the playground, I want something less flashy than my usual attire, fewer pockets, just some clean stuff that doesn’t give fancy drug dealer vibes.

Fatigue Shirt Galore
I recently got heavily into fatigue shirts, I did pick up 3 different options and thought I’d share my impressions. There are some similarities to denim, you know how to many people all denim is just blue? At first glance these are just green shirts, so I thought you guys might enjoy a closer look. These shirts also have a nice bit of history, these shirts first saw production in 1952 and, after a few variations, were phased out by 1981, becoming the defining uniform of the Cold War and Vietnam in the process.
The 3 options are OrSlow, Remi Relief and A Vontade.

Let’s start with OrSlow:
OrSlow Fatigue Shirt
I own a few cargos from them and it felt like a good starting point for a fatigue. Picked these up from Denimio earlier this year. The cut is longer than I expected, it’s not slim but certainly not wide even in the biggest size.
It is a lovely deep green canvas fabric. It’s a very sturdy reverse cotton sateen. The material is really stiff, I’ve worn it quite a bit and even after the first wash it hasn’t really softened up. In terms of details you have the front pockets with flap and the cutout for a pencil (which I have never used before I took the photo). It’s a good basic and the quality is very good, as to be expected from OrSlow. I did actually buy this to wear as a shirt but it’s too substantial for that so it gets far more wear as a jacket albeit one without side pockets.

Next up is this fatigue shirt from Remi Relief that I picked up from Haku-Clothing.

Remi Relief Oversized Fatigue Shirt
I only recently discovered RR and I like their stuff a lot. What they do really well is the vat dye, the ageing of their shirts looks proper, like worn for a long time, not gimmicky. Fabric is reverse sateen as well but super soft and thick with a lot of texture. There are some OrSlow shirts that are washed this way, but I haven’t found it in my size.
I also like that their cuts are a bit more oversized and a bit cropped. That fit might not for anyone but for layering, I prefer this one over OrSlow. Another big selling point for me are the side pockets which are surprising spacious. While all these jackets are labelled as shirts, they definitely double as jackets, especially in the summer and then I think side pockets are a bit of a must for me. I am also not the kind of guy who would ever wear a denim jacket without side pockets. This might be controversial for some but that’s a hill I am happy to die on: pockets are a good thing and the oversized design of this shirt accommodates pockets easily. Feel free to disagree with me!
Last but not least is this shirt from A Vontade from Sonder Supplies (they have a closing down deal, so there are some good deals to be had).
A Vontade HBT Shirt
I originally ordered a work shirt but it ended up being out of stock and they were kind enough to give me good discount on this HBT shirt which technically isn’t a fatigue shirt. But it’s green and it’s a shirt so we’re doing this. Obviously the design is different and has adjusters at the waist for a more fitted look. The fabric is really stiff and was first introduced in the US Army in 1941 in Olive Drab Green to replace the denim and khaki cotton uniforms as the HBT weave produces a tougher fabric than the standard twill weave of denim. So this one actually predates the fatigues in terms of inspiration. Of all the three shirts, this one is by far the toughest and the green is quite beautiful and the oversized chest pockets are a nice touch and makes up for the missing side pockets.
I think all three of them go really well with denim and white t-shirt (in this case a loop wheel from ONI which I really want to write about some day). A lot of this comes down to personal preferences. There is much to be said about the dedication that goes into reproducing military garments and the Japanese do it like no one else, but I wouldn’t mind some updates here and there. Which for me means side pockets but to each their own. I know there’s tons of brands I am missing, if you can think of any brands I should check out, drop me a line and thanks for reading!
TLDR: Remi Relief delivers the most updated and contemporary shirt for me. OrSlow is the nicest basic, and A Vontade makes by far the toughest.

2023.10.16 03:48 Cans59 The 4 Greatest Generals in the history of the Qin Dynasty, by period (Historical Spoilers)

So, generally speaking, by the different periods during the existence of Qin, these four were undeniably the most distinguished Generals of their time, I'll proceed to mention some of their accomplishments.
In chronological order: (1) Sima Cuo [Shi Ba Saku], (2) Bai Qi [Haku Ki], (3) Wang Jian [Ou Sen] and (4) Meng Tian [Mou Ten].

Considered the best Qin general in history before the deeds of Bai Qi and Wang Jian. Sima Cou from the legendary Sima family had an impecable military career and was the first great military expansionist for Qin, by his command Qin conquered and subdued the States of Shu and Ba, he had a successful campaign in Wei as well and an attack on Chu, setting the basis of the Qin state as a military superpower, he created a momentum that the next general took pretty good advantage of it.
The unstoppable and unbeatable Bai Qi, the one General who decimated the states of Zhao, Chu, Han and Wei multiple times, killing hundreds of thousands soldiers of those enemy states; not only he destroyed the bulk of the Zhao armies at Changping, but he also conquered Ying, the capital city of the Chu state, for this he was rewarded as Lord of Wu'an (title that Li Mu got later on), a huge part of why the states were later swiftly conquered by Qin, was because Bai Qi had already weakened them that much, the later unification was possible due to Bai Qi in the first place.
The undisputed conqueror of Qin, the most distinguished Qin General during the Campaigns of Unification, at the helm of the Qin war machine, he was responsible for conquering Zhao, Yan, Chu and subduing the Hundred Yue Tribes at the south, there’s no denying Wang Jian was the MVP during the brutal wars of Qin that united the chinese lands for the first time under the banner of a Dynasty system, unification was possibly because of Bai Qi, but it was successful through Wang Jian feats.
The truly last Great General of Qin, once Qin was unified, his most formidable General on active service was undoubtedly Meng Tian, the one that took a massive army North and crushed the powerful Xiongnu army under Touman, for fear of Meng Tian the Xiongnu never went back south until Modu later on created a strong confederation of them to attack the early Han Dynasty; Meng Tian was the one who oversaw the connection of the fortifications that became the first Great Wall of China, who knows, had he not died that early and tragically; with his talent and experience he might have defeated both Xiang Yu and Han Xin in battle to prevent the collapse of Qin, but we’ll never know.

Suffering from writers block and thought it'd be funny. Let me know if I got it right.
I'll see what Boruto thinks of it just to see if the comments are different for shits and giggles.

2023.09.30 05:34 Careless-Proposal-58 Feedback on Storytelling

"lol Lore"
There is often an attitude of, “Story doesn’t matter in PoE”. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen some form of ‘lol, story?’ in thread comments and streamer dialogue. After all, Path of Exile is a fast game that veteran players have repeated dozens-to-hundreds of times, so why should we care about the minutiae of what a character has to say? I hate to speak in generalized terms, but I suspect this is the perspective of the consistent player base.
The settings and characters are just that: the set stage. They is the racecourse by which we sprint, and I would like to propose that our track has been neglected.
The Characters Across Leagues
We see a new facilitator npc each league in Tane, Niko, Heist Crew, Divinia… but these are brief pamphlets that are published in lieu of ‘the next book in the series’. We as players have no time or context to emotionally bond to any of these people because we have no reason to care.
For example, we could have seen Tane grow over time (across leagues), and interact with Cassia. If Tane’s experiment on the inner darkness spawned a seed of the Blight that started “Trying to spread!” And from there, the Scourge became interested in our world as the darkness called to them, etc…
In this framework, we could have emotionally invested with our characters across time and expansions instead of developing them in isolation.
We may argue that this is intended: Leagues are not inherently designed to be integrated into the final game and therefore story. But some clearly have. We have a disparate, disjointed cast of characters that behave essentially as vendors. They've supplanted the old cast of Haku, Elreon, Catarina, et al. Yet they have no context beyond their own individual league. And we have mechanics serving nothing more than an experience and loot piñata: “Harbingers” harbinging… what? Catarina preparing for… what/which darkness? We have vaal Scourge threatening to invade... where? (and what do they have to do with blood magic again?)
I would have loved to see, sometime after Breach, Chayula come to us to say, “I dream. The stars awaken. They send their Scourge to invade both our realms. For a brief moment in this slumber… I offer an accord.” This would have allowed GGG to preserve the narrative quarantine of leagues against the primary story, since Breach has absolutely no influence on the story at large—similarly with Scourge and much of the existing league content. And it gives us context that Breach isn't the cosmic entitles, but a separate realm. Additionally, this would be important because we as players, reading the scene, are familiar with this formidable creature, Chayula, who takes so much effort to finally see, gives us perspective of the battle ahead. What GGG presents us with are arbitrary, nebulous enemies where they consistently, vaguely imply doom.
The skin of these specific scenarios could be placed over any given leagues that GGG likes to theme around: Ritual could have very easily been reskinned to be a narrative extension of Delve "rupturing", allowing us to explore the voices in Niko’s head as they get closer to the surface. Heist could have very well been bridged by Alva; Or Heist crew bridged to Divinia. The Kalgurans get curious about the past and work with Alva to try to find their lost history. These allow us to have time and experience to care about them across leagues. Having characters introduce other characters is an extremely important tool, because it allows us to draw parallels and provides context. Nick Fury bridging Thor and Tony Stark, so to speak.
As it stands, the serialized short stories via leagues provide no reason to emotionally invest with any given foe or character. I would propose that they be given connective links across leagues. There is no need to have completely new skins over league mechanics where we are forced to consume a new mechanic in a story that we’ve been trained to ignore, since we’ve continuously never heard from them again.
The Space Race
Path of Exile started out with a deep history of a forgotten past that we get to comb through, in the traditions of Bioshock, Dark Souls, or Dishonored. We actively get to explore the horrors of what happened with the empires. But we have skipped to the end. In attempting to justify the map device, the story has multiple axes of randomness, exactly as the game’s loot system. Time travel, alternate dimensions, alternate realms (e.g. afterlifes), belief-as-reality (gods), region-based physics (Kalgur has ward, but not gems)… These do not work together without providing the reader with some proper antecedent or point of reference. We have no consensus of what the world actually is, and therefore have no perspective of the stakes. Even Louis Carrol’s said a story should follow its own rules (in the case of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland), which Wraeclast seems to intentionally contradict.
The story raced to space, skipping important plot beats. I suggest using “Lovecraftian Heroism” as opposed to simply “Cosmic Horror”, because the true form of the latter is about knowledge, mystery, and exposure to the awesome and awful: overwhelming and inviting. We, in Post-Act PoE, are only in cosmic horror in aesthetic alone, since we fly at the speed of light, we ourselves are cosmic entities battling other cosmic entities.
True cosmic horror would have been our shining light of knowledge and reason, Eramir in Act2, found in the atlas chamber dead, having bashed in his own skull, with a logbook next to him, devolving into madness as he hears about the Maven — similar to the graffiti in Act 3 Marketplace.
We skipped the Expansion “Memories of the Vaal” to continue where Atziri and Maligaro left off (i.e. explaining where gems come from post- death of the beast). We skipped the Expansion “Belief” … where, with the gods dead, new gods start to form based on the vacant holes left by their respective domains and portfolios. We skipped the Expansion “They” when we face off against the aforementioned armies pending their space-gods. And so on and so on.
This was the perfect example to integrate several expansions past Harbinger: heralding the cosmic horrors that we ourselves have become. We could have had Tane cure the infected children of the Elder. We went straight to Maven without any buildup of her story over time. Just as there was no precursor to any of the cosmic entities that we fight mindlessly because they are just the next big-bad in the list.
So I must echo: why should we care? What is the stake? What is the emotional and historical anchor that we can attach to? What are the rules we’re supposed to understand about this world? If there’s several axes of randomness in the story, world logic, and character, we aren’t given an opportunity to invest. Referring back to Scourge, for example, so what if they consume some point in time, in some realm, at some atlas map? It’s all in flux anyway.
A lot of rebuttal would be in the form of Kirac and Zana since Sirus destroyed Oriath. I would agree, that was a great narrative beat, but everything Kirac says since is vague. There's a line I really like where he says something to the effect of, "they have map device technology"... yet we'll never really understand who they are or see their technology.
Now have another iteration of vagueness in Hinekora as she speaks of once-was’ and to-be’s. This trope has been overplayed so many times that I would argue trains the readers to think, “this doesn’t matter, since it’s never mattered before.” Why should we care about the timeline? It is inherently a confusing narrative tool that we as reader-players have no agency in, and cannot interact with. I argue that the small references are insufficient.
The main reason I write this is out of fear for Path of Exile 2. I really hope that GGG takes a moment in their development cycle to place some emphasis on narrative structure over the span of their game and leagues. I hope this isn't replicated in Path of Exile 2.

2023.09.17 12:10 MD_Dreamer53214 Battle for Hango Map Preview (Northern Zhao Campaign)

Looking ahead at the bloodiest battle of Qin in Zhao territory will be coming soon. I tried to make an easy-to-understand map to place the different armies hypothetically. Qin will be fielding 250K soldiers which is assumed to be bigger than the current Zhao defensive armies, but they have the advantage of terrain knowledge and Seika Generals with low exposure to Qin.
I placed pictures of the current generals for both sides (plus Kyoukai) for an easier time to discuss the possible matchups and formations.
What do you guys think will be the matchups between generals in these possible positions on the map?
My current assumption for Zhao is Shibashou will be the (C) Central army taking the field for Zhao with his (V) Vanguard Ji Aga and Kansaro the Seika Generals who attacked from Roumou. Their (R) Right wing Shunsunjui and Bananji the two trusted vassals of Riboku. Their (L) Left Wing Gaku Shou Seika's 2nd best general, and Futei. While their HQ at Hango remains Riboku his three 5k commanders who were injured last war (BananjunioKaine/Discount Shin) plus his deputy Earl Rai, En Ka (the Gian General) and Kotsu Min Haku (the Ganmon General)

Facing the Zhao defenses will be at the V the Hi Shin Unit plus the Fodder Generals from Taigen. The Central army immediately behind them will be General Akou Ousen's bruiser general. The Left Wing will be Yotanwa's army taking on SSJ and Bananji to try and cut to Hango and free God Slave Heki. The Right wing will be Sou'Ou and Ouhon taking on the 2nd best Seika commander (Gaku Shou) and pft Futei. Ousen will be with Denrimi as the backline at HQ observing the progress and acting accordingly to the bloodbath.
What do you think the matchups will be? Who lives? Who dies? How does Kitara save Heki? Which Seika General does Shin kill? Who does Shibashou fodderize on Qin's side? We'll find out in the next few years XD

Place your bets and mark with an X those you think dies this arc

2023.09.14 16:33 BarnibusRambius Naruto Retrieval Arc

I had to write this in my notes app because Reddit kept crashing every 15 seconds when I switched from the Reddit app to Firefox to double-check some stuff.
As many of you know, I am currently writing Turn of the Wheel, sort of like Sannin Swap but with a twist; Naruto never actually becomes a student of Orochimaru and only learns of Orochimaru’s techniques and all that from raiding and stealing from the Snake Sannin. At some point, Orochimaru becomes impressed and begins to indirectly teach Naruto every time they clash during the Three Year time skip. Sometimes, Orochimaru would leave scrolls for Naruto to take, containing lessons. It becomes a game to Orochimaru, while Naruto doesn’t view it as such; sometime during the time skip, Orochimaru becomes the one to torment and terrorize Naruto, leaving behind booby traps inspired by Jiraiya’s pranks where the reward for Naruto surviving is to keep any of the information stolen and the scroll/text/jutsu/equipment that Orochimaru wanted Naruto to have. “What’s more entertaining than screwing with one of Jiraiya’s students and making a jinchuriki too strong for the Akatsuki? Hahahaha.” - Orochimaru to Kabuto.
Now that is out of the way, let’s get to the meat and potatoes.
Naruto has left Konohagakure to protect it while traveling the Shinobi Continent, taking down missing-nin after missing-nin, raiding Orochimaru’s bases and labs, and setting up his spy network that at some point gets absorbed by Jiraiya’s (Later Sakura’s) spy network at the beginning of Part 2 all in the hopes he will get strong enough to return to Konohagakure to protect it from the Akatsuki and shinobi from enemy villages that want to get revenge on the son of Minato Namikaze.
Initially, I was planning for a group of five shinobi from Iwa, Kumo, and smaller hidden villages that have deep-seated hate for Minato Namikaze to collide with Naruto and the retrieval team that was sent after Naruto, including Sasuke and Sakura. It would have resulted in the Naruto Execution Team fighting the Naruto Retrieval Team while Sasuke and Sakura chase Naruto to the valley of the end, where a two-on-one fight breaks out between Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura; the battle is so intense and brutal that Sasuke and Naruto lose control of the curse seal and the nine-tails while Sakura achieves a new technique to use during the infamous Rasengan-Chidori scene. All members of Team Execution would die since they’re OCs; of course, Naruto is the first to wake up before Kakashi shows up, leaving behind two scrolls, one for Sasuke and one for Sakura.
I’m NOW leaning toward something different. I got this inspiration from a thread on one of my other posts when I was looking for characters to use for Team Ramen (I have Haku, Kankuro, and C so far; I need an Iwa Ninja), and someone suggested Neji. What if Naruto had his own Sound Five team to get him out of Konohagakure? Neji, Karui, Tayuya (In this continuity, someone else took Tayuya’s place as she got to grow up as a regular shinobi who owes Naruto a favor after the Chunin Exams in the Land of Iron.) with two more spaces open. Of course, the Naruto Extraction Team or Team Kaeru is only temporary and falls apart during this arc.
Because it is Konohagakure’s only jinchuriki who is a one-person army that can spam a fuck ton of clones with extremely dangerous jutsu and who has the Oiroke no Jutsu and the reverse Orioke no Jutsu, the Naruto Retrieval Team has the roster expanded upon and this is the logic Tsunade uses, unaware of Team Kaeru existence. So far, I have chosen Shikamaru, Tenten, Choji, Ino, Rock Lee, Shino, and Hinata. Kiba leads a team consisting of just Sakura and Sasuke as they hunt down Naruto after the Retrieval Team leaves, only for Kiba to join forces with Rock Lee until Gaara arrives. Hinata fights Neji, Choji and Tenten fight Karui, Shikamaru fights Tayuya, Shino and Ino take on the 4th member of Kaeru, while Rock Lee and Kiba take on the 5th member. I’m keeping the Three Way fights between Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura the same. Of course, Shino and Ino’s fight goes horribly wrong until Kankuro shows up. Shikamaru fight is the same, only minus the curse seal and Tayuya’s canon fate. Kiba and Rock Lee’s fight goes well until Kiba’s leg is broken, and Akamaru is knocked unconscious, forcing Lee to use the drunken fist technique until Gaara shows up.
If anyone knows Two characters from the anime, movies, and video games, you name it, who would be perfect to add to Team Kaeru to push everyone to their limits and justify the extra members AND Gaara, Temari, and Kankuro showing up, please let me know. I don’t want to write OCs for Kaeru because they’ll die at the hands of Kankuro and Gaara, and I don’t think Naruto would be okay with Gaara and Kankuro killing two people Naruto became friends with during the Chunin Exams.
Also, would anyone have an issue if I have Rock Lee learn Taijutsu from Tsunade since she’ll be returning to Konohagakure before the Chunin Exams? I always found it weird that Guy and Lee didn’t talk much about Tsunade or even asked her to train with them for Lee’s sake. Hinata, Ino, and Sasuke will train under Tsunade to learn Medical Ninjutsu. I’m also having Sakura have a crap ton of books that wouldn’t necessarily teach Sakura medical ninjutsu. Still, enough information will be available to Sakura so she can create her version of the strength-enhancing techniques that Tsunade uses, and these books were given to her by Tsunade and Ebisu. Second, would anyone be upset if I had Jiraiya teach some stuff to the rest of the Shinobi of Konohagakure? The reason Tsunade and Jiraiy would do something like this, is because in their minds: Konohagakure is too weak to protect anyone, including Naruto and Sasuke, from the Akatsuki and Orochimaru.

2023.09.05 05:43 LordJakcm Shi Ba Shous Introduction

I try to predict Shi Ba Shous introduction in the next arc and how he may live up to the hype surrounding him.

Haras Character Introductions

Hara usually introduces important characters by archiving a great feats. This is true for enemy generals as well as Qin generals. I only count a general as introduced if he is leading an independent army, so no Kan Ki and Ou Sen during the Sanyou Campaign Arc or Tou and Mou Bu during the Battle of Bayou Arc (as they got introduced but couldn't show there true potential).
These feats are:
Shi Ba Shou already got introduced by defeating Ordo and his 20k strong army with only 5k men. This is part of why he is so hyped up but character being introduced by a feat not directly seen are often given another feat for their "real" introduction (Ri Boku defeating Ou Ki after winning against the 200k strong army, Ren Pa almost defeating Mou Gou after stalemating Ou Ki and Haku Ki in wars prior).

My prediction: Shi Ba Shou kills A Kou

We know from the Shiji that Qin will "lose" the next invasion. Defeating the still weakened, newly rebuild 30k strong Hi Shin Army is no small feat but shouldn't be a problem for the "strongest" Zhao army.
I think the only feat living up to the hype and showing how dangerous he is would be him killing an important Qin general similar to Ri Boku and Hou Ken.
I thought that any of the Ou Sen, Tou or Mou Bu armies generals would fit the bill (depending on who is in charge of the northern invasion). A named, already introduced character would be better than an unnamed general as he would look like a cannon fodder general only created for his death. This could damage the representation of danger Shi Ba Shou posses rather than support it.
From A Kou, Den Ri Mi, Sou'Ou, Roku O Mi, Ryuu Koku and Kan Ou I would prefer A Kou as his death unlike one of the others (except maybe Roku O Mi) could advance multiple storylines without killing an character which could get some character growth later.
His death would show the danger of Shi Ba Shou and allows the Ou Sen army to be defeated (with A Kou in command) without Ou Sen himself (historically undefeated in battle) losing a battle.
This also forces Ou Sen to find another general to support both Den Ri Mi and Sou'Ou. Ou Hon would be the perfect fit (Mou Ten having already declined and Shin being an instinctual general) as Ou Sen acknowledged his talent and they should synergise the best. This directly advances their storyline with them having to cooperate and resolving their issues.

Fazit

I think it is quite unlikely that it will end up happening like I hope. On the hand I think both SBS killing a general and A Kou dying to be replaced by Ou Hon have their merits (and flaws) but could individually come true later in the story.

2023.07.25 13:08 apple8963 The Records of Shibasaku and a Small History of the Shiba Clan

Shibasaku is the oldest general of the Qin's Six Great Generals. He served three kings in his lifetime. The general became the guardian of Shu, and his achievements help build the foundation of Qin. His ancestors, the Shiba Clan, had their roots in the ages of gods and fully established themselves during the Zhou Dynasty as historians. The Taishi Gong of the Shiji, Sima Qian, claims direct descendant from the Great General. For you three kingdom fans, Sima Yi is a part of the Shiba Clan, though he is 400 years after the events of the warring states. Shibasaku himself is a man with great achievements. Out of all the Six Great Generals, Shibasaku is surprisingly the least-known general in Kingdom.
I have collected all the information from the Shiji that'll fit in this post. So thus I begin the records of Shibasaku.

Origin of the Shiba Clan (Sima Clan)

昔在顓頊,命南正重以司天,北正黎以司地。唐虞之際,紹重黎之後,使復典之,至于夏商,故重黎氏世序天地。其在周,程伯休甫其後也。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
In the ancient times of the reign of Emperor Zhuanxu, the Nanzheng Zhong was ordered to take charge of the affairs of heaven, while the Beizheng Li took charge of those of earth. in the reigns of Tang and Yu [i.e., Yao and Shun] the descendants of Zhong and Li were reestablished as the managers of the affairs of heaven and earth.
During the Xia and Shang dynasties these same Zhong and Li Clans continued generation after generation to manage the affairs of heaven and earth. The Earl of Cheng Xiufu in the Zhou dynasty was their descendant.
In the time of King Xuan of the Zhou, the family lost its position and became the Shiba Clan. The Shiba Clan for generations had charge of the historical records of the Zhou.
The ancestors of the Shiba Clan were court officials of the gods. This sounds a little bizarre, but to give a little context, according to the Shiji, China used to be ruled by the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, who were essentially god-kings of China. Emperor Zhuanxu is one of the Five Emperors. He is the Grandson of the Yellow Emperor.
This is because back in the old ages, the world of the gods and mankind overlapped.
The ancestors of the Shiba Clan manage what goes on in both the heavens and earth, and they continued to do this for thousands of years, but of course, nothing lasts forever. The ancestors lost their position, but they were reborn as the Shiba Clan.

The Shiba Clan Becomes Historians of the Ancient Zhou Dynasty

當周宣王時,失其守而為司馬氏。司馬氏世典周史。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
In the time of King Xuan of the Zhou, the family lost its position and became the Shiba Clan. The Shiba Clan for generations had charge of the historical records of the Zhou.
The Shiba Clan started out as historians. It's quite poetic if you think about it. The Shiba Clan were historians in the beginning while Sima Qian, the author of the Shiji, is also a historian himself.

The Shiba Clan Migrate to the State of Jin

惠襄之閒,司馬氏去周適晉。晉中軍隨會奔秦,而司馬氏入少梁。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
In the time of Kings Hui and Xiang, the Shi Ba Clan left Zhou and went to Jin. When the General of the Central Army, Sui Hui of Jin, fled to Qin, the Shi Ba Clan moved to Shaoliang.
The Shiba Clan then migrated to the State of Jin, which then became Zhao, Wei, and Han. They move into the Jin city of Shaoliang.

The Shiba Clan Scatters Apart

自司馬氏去周適晉,分散,或在衛,或在趙,或在秦。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
From the time the Shi Ba Clan left Zhou and went to Jin, they became broken up and scattered, some living in Wei, some in Zhao, and some in Qin.
While the time frame is not specified, it is implied that the Shiba Clan broke apart may be related to the State of Jin's collapse. As Jin breaks apart into Zhao, Wei, and Han, the Shiba Clan establishes itself in three states: Wei, Zhao, and Qin.

Two Shiba Clan Branches Make A Name in Wei and Zhao

~ Shiba Clan's Wei Branch ~
其在衛者,相中山。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
From the branch of the family in Wei came the Prime Minister of Zhongshan.
This Prime Minister is named Sima Xi of Zhongshan. Zhongshan is an old state that was absorbed by Zhao long ago.
~ Shiba Clan's Zhao Branch ~
在趙者,以傳劍論顯,蒯聵其後也。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
The branch of the family in Zhao was famous as hereditary masters of the art of swordsmanship. Kuai Kai (Duke Zhuang of Wey) was a descendant of this branch.
Interestingly, the members of the Zhao Branch were said to master the arts of swordsmanship. if you have seen my Jing Ke post, you would know that learning swordsmanship isn't just about being good at a sword. Being a swordman is considered a lifestyle and a swordman is dedicated to being a knight of virtue and honor. Learning the art of swordsmanship is delving into spirituality through the art of the sword. This brings us to a Zhao General.
~ Shibashou ~
七年,秦人攻趙,趙大將李牧、將軍司馬尚將,擊之。李牧誅,司馬尚免,趙怱及齊將顏聚代之。
(Shiji: Chapter 43: State of Zhao)
In the 7th year of King Youmiu’s reign, Zhao sent Ri Boku and Shi Ba Shou to stop Qin’s invasion of Zhao. Ri Boku was executed and Shi Ba Shou was stripped off his duties.
Shibashou is a general who defended the Zhao capital city of Kantan until he was removed from his position. We know next to nothing about who he is, but what we do know is that he is a member of the Shiba Clan, which we can tell by his name 司馬尚 with 司馬 being Shiba. Knowing that Shibashou's ancestors were martial warriors could give us insight into what Shibashou might be like.
And that is everything to know about the Shiba Clan, now we can delve into what General Shibasaku did during the Warring States Era.

Shibasaku's Achievements

~ Shibasaku's Conquest of Shu ~
九年,司馬錯伐蜀,滅之
(Shiji: Chapter 5: Chronicles of Qin)
In the 9th year of King Hui’s reign, Shi Ba Saku invaded the state of Shu and conquered it. (Year 316 BC)
~ Shibasaku Becomes Guardian of Shu ~
在秦者名錯,與張儀爭論,於是惠王使錯將伐蜀,遂拔,因而守之。錯孫靳,事武安君白起。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
After subduing it, he remained to guard his conquest.
~ Shibasaku Restores Order to a Shu Rebellion ~
六年,蜀侯煇反,司馬錯定蜀。
(Shiji: Chapter 5: Chronicles of Qin)
In the 6th year of King Wu, Hui, the marquis of Shu, revolted. Shi Ba Saku restored order to Shu. (Year 301 BC)
~ Shibasaku and Hakuki's Invasion of Two States~
十六年,左更錯取軹及鄧。
(Shiji: Chapter 5: Chronicles of Qin)
In the 16th year of King Sho, Shi Ba Saku seized Zhi of Wei and Deng of Han. (Year 291 BC)

明年,起與客卿錯攻垣城,拔之。
(Shiji: Chapter 73: Biographies of Bai Qi and Wang Jian)
The following year, Haku Ki and Shi Ba Saku, a “guest minister” of Qin, attacked the city of Yuan and captured it. (Year 291 BC)
'Guest Minister' means an official from another state. This tells us that Shibasaku began his career in another state that is not Qin.
~ Shibasaku's Capture of Three Cities ~
十八年,錯攻垣、河雍,決橋取之。
(Shiji: Chapter 5: Chronicles of Qin)
In the 18th year, Shi Ba Saku attacked Yuan, Heyong, and Jueqiao and captured them. (Year 289 BC)
~ Shibasaku's Invasion of Wei ~
二十一年,錯攻魏河內。
(Shiji: Chapter 5: Chronicles of Qin)
In the 21th year, Shi Ba Saku attacked the Henei area of Wei. Wei presented the city of Anyi to Qin. (Year 286 BC)
~ Shibasaku’s Invasion of Chu ~
二十七年,錯攻楚。赦罪人遷之南陽。...又使司馬錯發隴西,因蜀攻楚黔中,拔之。
(Shiji: Chapter 5: Chronicles of Qin)
In the 27th year, Shi Ba Saku attacked Chu. Qin pardoned criminals and moved them to the region of Nanyang. … Qin also sent Shi Ba Saku to set out with troops from Longxi and, proceeding through Shu, to attack Qianzhong, which he overran. (Year 280 BC)

Shibasaku's Fate

Unfortunately, we do not get any information on what happened to Shibasaku. Unless they have their own biographies, their fates are not usually mentioned if they didn't die in battle.
My personal theory is that he simply die of old age, seeing how his first war was Year 316 BC while his last war was Year 280 BC, which is 36 years of war.
Despite his disappearance, his legacy doesn't end there.

Shibakyou the Grandson of Shibasaku and servant to Hakuki.

After Shibasaku, his grandson, Sima Geng (司馬梗) (Or his Japanese name Shibakyou) becomes a great general of Qin. We do not get a lot of information about him, but the information we do have is enough to create a compelling figure.
~ Shibasaku's Grandson ~
錯孫靳,事武安君白起。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
Shi Ba Saku’s grandson Jing (Jin) served the Lord of Buan, Haku Ki.
Shibakyou is the retainer of Hakuki. From this information alone, we can easily assume that Shibakyou fought in many of Hakuki's battles, and Hakuki himself had a lot of battles.
~ Shibakyou’s Invasion ~
司馬梗北定太原,盡有韓上黨。
(Shiji: Chapter 5: Chronicles of Qin)
Shi Ba Kyou (Sima Geng/司馬梗) proceeded north to take control of Taigen, gaining possession of all of Han’s region of Shangdang. (Year 259 BC)
This is Shibakyou's first recorded battle. He takes the city of Taigan and gained control of Shangdang in Year 259 BC.
~ Shibakyou’s Service to Hakuki and His Suicide ~
靳與武安君阬趙長平軍,還而與之俱賜死杜郵,葬於華池。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
Shi Ba Kyou and the Lord of Buan massacred Zhao's army at Chouhei.
After their return to Qin, they were both ordered to die at Doyu. They were buried at Huachi.
In Year 260 BC, Shibakyou assisted Hakuki in defeating Choukatsu. Alongside his master, he helped with the massacre of Chouhei.
And we all know the end of Hakuki, Hakuki was forced to commit suicide under the orders of King Sho. Shibakyou was also forced and followed his master to death.

Shibasaku's Direct Descendants during the Qin Dynasty and Early Han

Besides Shibakyou, we also get a small glimpse of Shibasaku's other descendants.
~ Shibakyou’s Grandsons ~
靳孫昌,昌為秦主鐵官,當始皇之時。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
Shi Ba Kyou's grandson was Shi Ba Masa (Sima Chang). Shi Ba Masa was head of a Bureau of Iron under the Qin dynasty.
Shibamasa (Sima Chang) in particular was in charge of controlling the iron supply of Qin.
昌生無澤,無澤為漢市長。無澤生喜,喜為五大夫,卒,皆葬高門。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
Shi Ba Masa had a son named Wuze. Wuze was a Master of the Market under the Han. Wuze was the father of Xi. Xi was a Lord of the Fifth Rank. All these men when they died were buried at Gaomen.

The Authors of the Shiji are the Direct Descendants of Shibasaku

Sima Qian claims direct descent to Shibasaku. Sima Qian is the son of Sima Tan. Sima Tan is the son of Sima Xi of Han. Sima Xi was the son of Sima Wuze. Sima Wuze was the son of Sima Chang/Shibamasa. Shibamasa is the great great grandson of Shibasaku.
~ Sima Tan and Sima Qian ~
喜生談,談為太史公。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
Xi was the father of Sima Tan, who became the Taishi.
Taishi means Grand Historian. Taishi Gong means Lord Grand Historian.
太史公既掌天官,不治民。有子曰遷。
(Shiji: Chapter 130: Postface of the Taishi Gong)
Since the Taishi was always in charge of astronomical affairs he was not concerned with the governing of the people. He had a son named Sima Qian.
With that, that is about everything we have on Shibasaku, his ancestors, and his direct descendants.

Final Words

Unfortunately, we do not have a lot of information on Shibasaku, but I hoped that the information surrounding him, such as his achievements, direct descendants and ancestors' origins makes for more than enough, so it can give us a good idea of how grand Shibasaku is.

2023.06.28 06:30 Equal_Confidence2405 My berserk/naruto inspired anime Idea

this is very messy because it is months in the making and is mostly just thoughts but I thought to post it here.

Main character name:hakai
Japanese word for destruction
Mythological beings:god, gaia and uchu(japanese for universe)
Power system used
Divine energy.
Long ago when man was created by gods image they were imbued by cosmic unversal energy.
All humans have divine energy within them. They can train the energy to perform spells and have powers such as lightning. It is like the chakra for naruto. The world is a bit dystopian where humans live in cities. The wilds are populated with wild animals, demons, beasts and raiders.
There are four divine cosmic beings
Gaia, uchu, god and the devil.
They have been in conflict since god created man.
The devil cannot create life and wants to create or destroy it. He is the amalgamation of all evil.
God and gaia created life while god and uchu birthed the universe.
God and the devil are always at conflict for their divine power. However uchu and gaia want to protect gaia’s children. humanity . While the devil is evil incarnate, god is power incarnate, gaia is life incarnate and uchu is existence incarnate.
Before the story begins Gods son lucifer was slain by the devil. God goes mad with anger and his wrath has spilled all over the universe. Gaia and uchu had separated after this and god waged eternal war on the devil.
The story starts with a prophecy that a child of destruction with the white eye will destroy all gods and divine beings and free humanity from god and the devil.
God and the devil at the fear of their death work together to kill all white haired humans. White haired humans are humans with affinity to gain divienergy. They were wiped out and are extremely rare among humans due to the fear of death of god and the devil.
Humanity is world like naruto where humanity resides in villages. However they live in cities called shintos or divine cities.
There are six main shintos representing the elements
Names havent been revealed
All shintos are equal in power. Humans with divinergy can use these elements like jutsu. However the most skilled holy knights can wield the sevetnth element which is pure divienrgy.
The enemies of humanity have threat levels(demons, beasts)
bomb- which is like house level damage
Fire- street level damage
Lion- town level damage
Ursa- threatens an entire shinto
Apex predator- threatens multiple shintos
God level- all of humanity is in danger
The warriors of the villages are called holy knights
Their power levels are
squire - just beginning and can only take on bomb level creates
Apprentice- multiple are needed for a fire level
Liutenant- takes on lion threats up to ursas
Knight low to high- low knights take on ursas and high knights take on aprex predators
Holy knight- take on apex predators and god levels
Divine knights- humanities most powerful warriors thought to be a myth, kept secret from other shintos they take on god threats that can end all of humanity. Shinto leaders have to be divine knight level.
All shintos are run by a divine knight basically.
The main character is hakai who lives in the life shinto which is a bit more powerful. The shintos are run by their respective faction.
The life shinto is run by the senate of the divine. It is run by zohen who is a power hungry divine knight. He wants to be the strongest human and defend them all himself.
The story starts with the birth of hakai, his mother dies of childbirht. The truth is uchu and gaia placed most of their power in hakai’s mothers womb. Hakai will gain divine white hair later in his life tho.
Hakai’s mother dies because she gives birth to hakai. Hakai’s power is only a little higher than average and he will gain his major glow up later.
Hakai growing was a middle class kid but was a bit disconnected from his father and sister but loved them with all his heart. Truth is that gaia and uchu gave him the purest heart. Yet the world is full of evil.
Natruto has the konoha 11.
Hakai has-
raizen - his best friend
Tan chi- his other friend
Polara- the mean but beautiful girl that hakai falls in love with. She is mean and evil but changes her ways to be better
Then there are three other characters
- zyko
- zylo
- dan
They are three twins
Prolly a few more characters
Then there is hakais bully kasya.
Kasya is evil and the lover of polara. While hakais family is middle class kasya is inherently mean and bullys him and sort of is the sasuke of the story.
There is hakai’s sister haku
There is one introductory arc where all the characters are introduced.
All the characters go to the agoge which is the like the ninja school for knights. The holy knights are the ninjas of the shintos. It is a good paying profession but high high death rate.
kasya ‘s father is high knight mostly because of money while hakoon (hakai’s father is a knight benign outclassed)
The second arc in is a war arc as in hell the devil stews and brews as he prepares to destrpy humanity.
Kasya is a glory seeker and allows some good wins to be scored among low leveled demons. The life shinto is in danger as many fights and threats happen.
Under the brink of stress and death hakai gets a power boost and confesses hisi love to polara but is rejected horribly. However the war ends when the devils comes out of hell.
Seeking a warrior he makes a deal with hakai. If hakia jumps and dies in hell then humanity will be spared if not then he will kill his father who he clutches.
Right before this hakai is bullied by polara and all the other people in his grade.
Having had enough of living he is suicidal and he jumps in the portal to hell and saves his shinto.
One or two more arcs happen before what is revealed to happened to hakai.this will have a two year time skip
Hakai was born with gais and uchus blessing. While in hell the blessings activated and through sheer will power for 900 years hakai fought off hell. During the portal arc where the other main characters try to close of hell portals. A final supermassive one opens with hakai in it. There is a 2 episode long power struggle, but the crazy powerful demon that walks through is hakai. \
Through fighting the forces of Hell for 900 years hakai is the most powerful being. However due to this he has lost all and every trace of humanity.
During the time skip we learned that hakais mother survived and she returns.
But anyways the whole going forward plot of the anime is how hakai tries to regain his humanity. However he is too cold and unfeeling so he struggles with his identity.
The whole theme that anime explores is the people at the top the apex predators, what are they without their prey. It is lonely being at the top and to get to the top you may loose everything you once loved.
Episode one
Starts with hakai fighting a cosmic being maybe yahweh it is a crazy destructive battle that is sky shattering. It goes to close shot of his face, it then cuts to a younger hakai. He says my name is Hakai and I will be the greatest warrior the world has ever seen and finally get my family’s and shintos recognition. WHen I was a born a shaman had a crazy prophecy and some people suspected him. But people hate hakai in general because his mothers case was the only one ever of death from pregnancy makign people fear him.
He then wakes up from his dream which was of future him fighting. This is just foreshadowing.
