2024.05.16 22:27 Hanco90 Vintage typewriter.

There was once one writer, however he no longer had the inspiration for his stories like he had before, he would roam around days and nights in order to find his inspiration. He even started drinking.
Which obviously caused the feeling of emptiness inside him, so one afternoon he was just sitting in the bar feeling blue, but suddenly an older man approached him, the older man wore long and brown coat with hat, he walked with one black cane that was designed with silver skull. The older man told him that he knows him and how miserable he's become, and asked him if he can sit next to him and told him that he can help him, since that writer was in miserable crisis of finding his own passion, he trusted the older man and let him sit right next to him.
As the man sat down, he pulled his black bag, however he was a very mild person and his voice was also calm and relaxing, trusting such person like him is easy. He was searching something in his bag and spontaneously pulled out his old vintage typewriter, he told him how this vintage typewriter is extremely special, because whenever you write something with it, that story is guaranteed to be famous and people would purchase it even if it's very expensive.
Anyone who is in normal circumstances would believe that is some stupidity, but also anyone who is in such midlife crisis and desperate would also trust anything that is representing a modicum of hope for them.
The writer accepted his vintage typewriter but questioned him what usage would he have from this and why would he offer it to him for free, and the older man relied on his black cane, got up, sighted and replied how he simply just loves good stories, then he simply just turned around and left.
The writer then went to his apartment and placed the vintage typewriter on his table, he put the paper and started writing, and out of thin air the writer immediately got ideas what to write, points, characters, and he managed to think of good ending in split seconds, but he spent the entire night writing.
So when the story was done in the morning he was checking his story if there were any mistakes or etc, the story was about 24 people that were buried underground in the train, when the train was going through tunnel, the ground collapsed and the train ended up in the giant sinkhole, since they had no way of coming back, they were stuck for days, the point of the story was what would an average human be prepared to do in order to survive, out of stuck 24 people, only one of them got to see the sunlight, no one knew how he survived, except him, and he survived by not having mercy towards others.
While others were grabbing themselves by hair and panicking because of craziness, from the darkness, hunger, thirst, paranoia because they were stuck for 2 weeks, they had enough oxygen, but not food, so everyone was against each other.
At the end of the day he sent his story to his literary agent, the story was published and became really popular and commercially viable. But month after the story was published he spontaneously came across the shocking news on the newsletter about the incident with one train that happened that day, 23 people have died and only one has survived, while the saviors were getting that guy out, the writers hands were shaking as he observed that, and when he read the description about the man who survived, his heart almost stopped beating, the man who survived was utterly identical to the man who was in his story, and in the newsletters every minutiae about his story was identical.
He got up, drank a glass of whiskey, and tried to comprehend what he just read. While he started to search for logical explanations, he could hear from the other room his vintage typewriter spontaneously started to produce the clicking on paper sound, in other word writing with itself. Since he was sole one in his apartment, he had no idea who could be writing with it, so he went to that room to see and to his shock the machine was writing by itself, he only managed to read the first word, before he just out of blue fell and died.
The vintage typewriter still continued to write until it's done with it, it wrote this following text:
One writer who lacked inspiration has sold his soul to the satan for his success, satan blessed him with the machine and fulfilled how every story he writes shall witness a tremendous success. But what he didn't know, is how satan always arrives for his soul after fulfilled promise. Now the police shall find him dead, and the naive mortals shall think that he died of heart attack. Satan, always arrives for what belongs to him, the end, author: The satan himself.
Policemen later found his dead body, however, the vintage machine just disappeared and was found by no one.

I was considering the following options 1. The Hunger Games 2. The Handmaid's Tale 3. 1984 4. Farhenheit 451 Or if you think any other sources would be a better choice, then please feel free to recommend Cinematic works are also good, preferable one book and one movie.

2024.05.16 21:57 RevolutionStandard99 A poem about mariage in Cypriot Greek, written using Turkish alphabet by my grandfather in the year 1965 and a few questions about Greek alphabet, it's history and orthography.

My late grandfather has kept a few writings of poetry in Cypriot Greek sung by the natives of Yalya (Γιαλιά), mostly our relatives. Chatismada poetry was mostly sung but sometimes said without melody, in daily interractions, as a means of story telling and for important events (like weddings or at harvesting/threahing time), examples of the first two categories,i have posted before but not of the third. As a result of the attention my last post recieved, i saw that since the last time i visited it the subreddit has aquired some knowledgable members, so i would like to ask a question using the example of the below poem to further illustrate my example. İn my previous posts or comments that made in Greek, i used an orthographic style somewhere in between Greeklish and Turkish trying to use as grammer as correctly as possible, using the afforementioned orthography. One example would be i would use the english "j" or "dj" for what would be "τζ" using the greek alphabet instead of the or using the turkish "ğ" for "γ" , altough this sound is close but not exact as "γ" it is more akin to the silent glossal consonant invetween "α" and "ε" in "αέρα" which i would write as "ağera" instead of the nasal "γ" in "αγάπη". . İ am saying all this because the exteact below is not watered down unlike what i have shared previously and is written completely using the Turkish alphabet and would be almost imposible to decipher, so i would put a trasliteration under every line for this reason i redownloaded Reddit on my phone. The reason i am writing it as it was recorded is that it relates to my question below the poem as it would not make much sense whithout seeing it in its orriginal form. Here it is:
DOBİYİMMAN DİSNİFFİS(Το Ποίημμαν Της Νύφφης)
Ennasasbo miyan fimin neyan (Εννά σας πω μιαν φήμην νέαν) Ennasasbo enan galon biyimman (Εννά σας πω έναν καλόν ποίημμαν) Ofeğos masedogen miyanevloğiyan (Ο Θεός μας έδωκεν μίαν ευλογίαν) Na ehumen myan familyan neyan (Να έχουμεν μίαν φαμίλιαν νέαν)
Ennasasbo miyan alisgân (Εννά σας πω μίαν αλήθκειαν) Ofeğos isdes yenneces din omorsgân (Ο Θεός είς τες γενέτζες την ομορθκειάν) Edogen navrusin efdişan (Έδωκεν να βρούσιν ευτυσ̌άν) Ceda mandilya (Τζαι τα μαντιλιά) Brosdadefgun iyafrobi budin amardiyan (Προστατεύκουν οι ανθρώποι που την αμαρτίαν)
Elada omorfimmu goruğa (Έλα δα όμορφην μου κορούα) Ağeyi digissu bigan (Άε η δικήν σου ποίκαν) Ağeda befgassu sanduca(Άε τα πευκά σου σαντούτζα) Ağeda ğrusafenassu sdolisgâ (Άε τα γρουσαφένα σου στολίθκια) Ceda marmarga su anciya(Τζαι τα μαρμαρκά σου αντζία)
Hade ra omorfimmu goraşa (Χάτε ρα όμορφην μου γορασ̌ά) Aboşeredise yidikissu bedigididan (Αποσ̌αιρετίσε η δικήν σου πεδικότηταν) Edimase donlehossu me aroman (Ετοιμάσε τον λαίχως(?)
A little while ago i saw a video on YouTube that talked about the griko language(dialect?) in Southern İtaly and the main thing that caught my attention was the fact that they used the latin alphabet to write Greek in and the manner in which they did so, obviously the orthography was created by a person that was able to use the Greek alphabet, it's main feature was that μου-μας-του etc. Were written adjacent to the noun for inctance "our father" would be written as "ocirimma" or my mother would be "imamammo" . When seeing this the first thing that came to my mind was the records of my grandfather. As a few examples of similarities with the above principle "yidigimmu"(η δικήν μου) could be presented as an example. The thing is Greek written in the Turkish alphabet can be read as entirely different from what it would be using the Greek alphabet, especialy without the use of intonations, while my grandfather had and other relatives that were native Greek speakers don't have the stereotypical Turkish Cypriot accent when speaking Cypriot Greek this i think derives from their proper use of intonation and the ability to use the sounds of θ and ττ(which only exists in a few Turkish dialects) which can be seen from the fact that θ is written as f or s above like in the example of "ofeğos" (ο Θεός). The Greek written in the Turkish alphabet would be uniteligable without a prior knowledge of intonations. This became clear to me when a friend who was trying to learn Greek came to me asking how to know how the accent mark would be placed when writing and when i illustrated the sound difference he wouldn't understand it while it was (mostly) easy for me when i first how to write using the Greek alphabet as i was already well versed in the language as in the above poem it can be seen that those without an intonation merge together like "ceda" (τζαι τα). Making all these points above now i can ask what i want to: How is the written grammar of a language determined when it encounters a writing system, how has the orthography of Greek changed overtime and why is it written in the manner it is and what alphabets has it been written with other than its own throughout history. To me Greek written using the Greek alphabet is superior in its ability to fully transmit what is to be conveyed, is there any pother reason to this other than its richness of letters and the ability to utilise intonation like the interraction of different words with one another?
My other question would be the word lehos, in this case it does not mean throat but was translated to Turkish by my Grandmother as "gerdek" which means the mariage bed, the first intercourse of a maried couple, the below reference of the oppening of a bloody blanket refers to the archaic tradition of showing the villagers blood stained blanket resulting from the bride's hymen being broken during the intercourse prooving her chastidy, this tradition was practiced in Cyprus as it was and still in across Eurasia. İf you know a name for this practice sharing it would be greatly apreciated. Thanks in advance for your patience and wisdom.
With regards.

2024.05.16 20:39 Ill-Range-4954 Hsin Hsin Ming: On trust in the Heart (by Seng-ts'an)

I was reading some texts by Foyan when he mentioned Seng-ts'an and his writings. I decided to share and comment on the whole poem which is called Hsin Hsin Ming. The poem is huge, so buckle up!
On having no preferences.
The Perfect Way is only difficult for those who pick and choose; Do not like, do not dislike; all will then be clear. Make a hairbreadth difference, and Heaven and Earth are set apart; If you want the truth to stand clear before you, never be for or against. The struggle between "for" and "against" is the mind's worst disease; While the deep meaning is misunderstood, it is useless to meditate on Rest. It [the Buddha-nature] is blank and featureless as space; it has no "too little" or "too much;" Only because we take and reject does it seem to us not to be so.
If you support and objectify something outside yourself, that is already a preference. And then you will reject any view that denies your view of truth. However if you do not have such an object to look towards, what will you do? What would it look like not to fight against another view?
On taking things as they are.
Do not chase after Entanglements as though they were real things, Do not try to drive pain away by pretending that it is not real; Pain, if you seek serenity in Oneness, will vanish of its own accord. Stop all movement in order to get rest, and rest will itself be restless; Linger over either extreme, and Oneness is for ever lost. Those who cannot attain to Oneness in either case will fail: To banish Reality is to sink deeper into the Real; Allegiance to the Void implies denial of its voidness.
There is no use to clean your glasses with your own fingers, it will only smudge them more. By trying to fabricate states or change your current state hoping to have a nicer experience, you will only get further estranged from yourself. By reacting to emotions, you will create even more emotions. Why force rest or peace? Why prefer something more real? How can something other than this experience be more real?
On intellectualization.
The more you talk about It, the more you think about It, the further from It you go; Stop talking, stop thinking, and there is nothing you will not understand. Return to the Root and you will find the Meaning; Pursue the Light, and you will lose its source, Look inward, and in a flash you will conquer the Apparent and the Void. For the whirligigs of Apparent and Void all come from mistaken views;
This reminds of the monk who got to go on a walk with his master and they watched the sunset together. At one point the monk could not help himself and said "How beautiful!". His master never allowed him to go on a walk with him. Of course, this is an extreme case, but by expressing / looking for the beauty in words, it is no longer the same beauty. It is, as if, examined by one and no longer of-itself.
On duality of "Is" and "Isn't".
There is no need to seek Truth; only stop having views. Do not accept either position [Assertion and Negation], examine it or pursue it; At the least thought of "Is" and "Isn't" there is chaos and the Mind is lost. Though the two exist because of the One, do not cling to the One; Only when no thought arises are the Dharmas without blame. No blame, no Dharmas; no arising, not thought.
From the One Mind are born "this" or "that". It can flower in any direction, but don't consider it your own and see it as an arbitrary view.
On me and you.
The doer vanishes along with the deed, The deed disappears when the doer is annihilated. The deed has no function apart from the doer; The doer has no function apart from the deed. The ultimate Truth about both Extremes is that they are One Void. In that One Void the two are not distinguished; Each contains complete within itself the Ten Thousand Forms.
One void, not two, not me, not you. So tell me, who knows more than others? Who has views that others don't see? Who argues with another?
On having no fixed path.
Only if we boggle over fine and coarse are we tempted to take sides. In its essence the Great Way is all embracing; It is as wrong to call it easy as to call it hard. Partial views are irresolute and insecure, Now at a gallop, now lagging in the rear. Clinging to this or to that beyond measure The heart trusts to bypaths that lead it astray. Let things take their own course; know that the Essence will neither go nor stay; Let your nature blend with the Way and wander in it free from care.
Only a fool would try to put a nail in the sky. What is subtle and what is surface understanding? There is a point where they no longer mean anything separately. What then? When things are seen for what they are, as appearances in the One Mind, all boundaries begin to crumble. In nature some branches grow short, some long, all is the body of Buddha.
On splitting the hair in half.
Thoughts that are fettered turn from Truth, Sink into the unwise habit of "not liking." "Not liking" brings weariness of spirit; estrangements serve no purpose. If you want to follow the doctrine of the One, do not rage against the World of the Senses. Only by accepting the World of the Senses can you share in the True Perception. Those who know most, do least; folly ties its own bonds. In the Dharma there are no separate dharmas, only the foolish cleave To their own preferences and attachments.
Don't sit in your meditation or emptiness and reject everything. Don't sit with your Zen texts and reject what is not in your Zen texts. There is One Dharma and it manifests as all. Estrange yourself from your perceptions and senses and you will estrange yourself from the One Dharma.
On no differentiation.
To use Thought to devise thoughts, what more misguided than this? Ignorance creates Rest and Unrest; Wisdom neither loves nor hates. All that belongs to the Two Extremes is inference falsely drawn- A dream-phantom, a flower in the air. Why strive to grasp it in the hand? "Is" and "Isn't," gain and loss banish once for all: If the eyes do not close in sleep there can be no evil dreams; If the mind makes no distinctions all Dharmas become one.
I see this as river, it does not look for the best course, it just flows into the best course. It does not blame rocks for being in the way, it just goes over them. What do you blame? What is it that you want to accomplish and what is it that stands in your way?
On the end of complication.
Let the One with its mystery blot out all memory of complications. Let the thought of the Dharmas as All-One bring you to the So-in-itself. Thus their origin is forgotten and nothing is left to make us pit one against the other. Regard motion as though it were stationary, and what becomes of motion? Treat the stationary as though it moved, and that disposes of the stationary. Both these having thus been disposed of, what becomes of the One?
When you wake up from a dream in the morning, it instantly becomes unreal. In the same way, when all subjective complications are forgotten once and for all, the only flow of existence is revealed to have never ceased. Eternally This, ever flowing.
On freedom.
At the ultimate point, beyond which you can go no further, You get to where there are no rules, no standards, To where thought can accept Impartiality, To where effect of action ceases, Doubt is washed away, belief has no obstacle. Nothing is left over, nothing remembered; Space is bright, but self-illumined; no power of mind is exerted. Nor indeed could mere thought bring us to such a place. Nor could sense or feeling comprehend it. It is the Truly-so, the Transcendent Sphere, where there is neither He nor I.
For swift converse with this sphere use the concept "Not Two;" In the "Not Two" are no separate things, yet all things are included. The wise throughout the Ten Quarters have had access to this Primal Truth; For it is not a thing with extension in Time or Space; A moment and an aeon for it are one. Whether we see it for fail to see it, it is manifest always and everywhere. The very small is as the very large when boundaries are forgotten; The very large is as the very small when its outlines are not seen.
Thusness is the place of non-abiding. No one does the non-abiding so we can say that it happens of itself. This is the freedom that is sought after through endless kalpas of thoughts and emotions. Who would have thought that even thoughts and emotions are of themselves, part of it.
William Blake says:
To see a World in a Grain of Sand And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour.
On the futility of words and trusting the Heart.
Being is an aspect of Non-being; Non-being is an aspect of Being. In climes of thought where it is not so the mind does ill to dwell. The One is none other than the All, the All none other than the One. Take your stand on this, and the rest will follow of its own accord; To trust in the Heart is the Not Two, the Not Two is to trust in the Heart. I have spoken, but in vain; for what can words tell Of things that have no yesterday, tomorrow or today?
Here we meet the paradox of being and non being, of using words to describe the word-less. What does it really mean to trust the Heart? We cannot convey that in any direct way using language. To be honest, we cannot convey much directly using language. Seeing things as not two, or not separate is to have trust in the Heart, or to put it in another way, not closing yourself off via intellectual analysis or emotional reactions is to have trust in the Heart. What is your take on all of this?

2024.05.16 20:36 ls4ka [Poem] The Noise is Out by Karoly Szakmary (Hungarian poem translated from book Egy Lelek New Yorkban or The Soul of New York)

Karoly Szakmary was conscripted to serve in the Hungarian infantry after making anti nazi writings at University and served on the Russian Front. He later worked for Radio free Europe as a youth radio host during the Hungarian Revolution but immigrated to the United States in 1958. This poem is translated to the best of my ability:
THE NOISE IS OUT
The noise outside is the noise of 6 years in this new life.
It doesn't stop for a minute. The monotonous dull noise which enters through this window.
New York is roaring outside, panting and rattling pipes, and a moment of silence, a breath of calm, nowhere to be found in the cold noise of the clapping of ears.
And it gets on your nerves.
Like a bloodsucking market, air cooling equipment and spine-tingling sadness answer to city trumpets.
Screeching songs of brakes and sirens, I wander into the Babel of monotony, dizzy with the big New York night.
And the garbage trucks at dawn weigh down my heart, just like the tracked tanks during the war.
Which I still hear in my soul.
With a lost screech here and there, a human voice - a laugh. The deep scream of a "call girl" filters through the window.
And the neighbor's phone rings in vain. Con Edison erupts at the East River, hissing like a monstrous volcano.
While the neighbor below fades away, a hackneyed Chopin tune breaks through the wall just before the climax.
And the other neighbor is under her husband. Her scream is muffled like the forest's humming voice or the soft barking of whining dogs.
And I need that too.
I dig my head into my pillow because of the noise, the noise — the technology.
Now, I have learned to put up with it like this: the noise that, for years, has not stopped for a minute, the monotonous dull noise that enters through the window and clings to my nerves like a parasitic leech.
There is simply something unspeakably monstrous and great I have to say about the noise.
The thing to say about this grave noise is that it blends in all around into an endless roar, and these artificial brains will never be able to comprehend it with reason.
What's going on inside?
Perhaps the abandoned Neutron fibers of another circuit are looming on the wires, in the circle of nerve cells, on its tiny switch, a self-destructing cell vibrating, circling IBM computers, and on the magnetic grand pointer of pendulum clocks a dull ache inside.
Like the thud of a silent corpse.
Which is a noise I know well but keep locked away in my closet of dreams.
And the heavenly formula of my grinning self is my mind that has been torn apart by toothy fingers and the noise, noise, noise.

2024.05.16 20:20 Ameabo Mirror Mirror (unofficial title)- sci-fi/psychological (Act 1, 38 pages)

Logline: His sanity ebbing, the schizophrenic son of a famous scientist learns he’s been chosen to stop a mysterious apocalypse 300 years in the future from the woman in his mirror.
This is act one of my first feature length screenplay, also my second ever serious screenplay. It still obviously needs a LOT of work (and there may be typos, I'm terrible at editing my own stuff. If there is just point them out to me and I'll fix them).
In my personal opinion, I kind of hate where it's going right now. I've found throughout my years of writing that I tend to start off fairly well and then sizzle out from there, but maybe I'm just being too harsh on myself. I think my dialogue needs a lot of work, it sounds childish to me and I'm not sure why. I also think I have too much description. If my criticisms hold true during any of your readings please let me know so I understand that it isn't just me.
Please let me know if anything is formatted weirdly or outright incorrectly. I haven't taken any screenwriting classes yet so I don't doubt it might be totally wonky.
Thank you so much to anybody who may read my screenplay, any criticism is welcome! Just don't tell me to give up on my dreams forever because I'm just that bad, I might cry if you say that (/s)
Also obviously the screenplay doesn't have a name yet because I suck at that so if anybody has any suggestions feel free to offer them!

2024.05.16 20:16 DontFireMeImPoor New/Returning Player Leveling Help Guide

Welcome (Back?) to Fallout 76

I have seen tons of new players coming in to the game lately, and even more returning to the game much like myself. I won't say I'm the smartest and best informed Fallout 76 player, but I have had tons of help from some people I can say probably are some of the smartest and best informed in the game. So I've decided to compile this handy yet vauge-ish leveling guide to some things you might be curious about, or might find helpful, or whatever! First off, however, let's go over some things the new players might not know: Etiquette in Fallout 76!
Etiquette of Appalachia
While this is a game about lawless chaos in a hell-like wasteland, there are some rules you really should follow!
  1. If you don't want to engage in PVP, turn on pacifist mode in the settings and read the popups on your screen about contesting workshops!
  2. Don't start events until the very last ~30 seconds! Give other players a chance to make it to the event so it's easier to complete and everyone gets loot/xp from enemies!
  3. Don't go overkill and destroy everything in public events! Killing everything before anyone gets a chance to do any damage to the enemies makes it so nobody else gets any XP or loot.
AFAIK those are the big three rules of this game, some people have their preferences and morals and such but IMO, to each their own beyond these big three.
Leveling Up
This is probably your main way of getting poweutility; through leveling up and collecting those sweet, sweet perk cards. I'm just gonna tell you how it is and say hey, don't shoot the messenger. Unless I told ya wrong, then shoot me a message so I can correct it.

How to Increase Your XP Gain

First off, lets go over how XP Bonuses are calculated. First, there is the base XP of an enemy. Then your INT stat will add to that base at 2.072% per point of INT you have. Then the resulting number is multiplied by the percentage base XP buffs you might have active such as the Leadership Bobblehead, Lunchboxes, or Well Rested. Here's the formula:
(Base XP + (Base XP * (INT * 2.072))) + ((Base XP + (Base XP * (INT * 2.072))) * %Buffs)
CALM DOWN!!! To make it easier on you folk out there who aren't running Egghead IRL, your INT stat essentially makes your base XP reward higher so your lunchboxes can give you way more XP.
So how does a fella max their INT? Well I'll tell ya! Other than the obvious idea of maxing it out by respeccing your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat allocation, you have armor slots that can all roll legendary star stats such as boosting your INT by +1 per piece, and if you don't mind running a low health build while power leveling, the Unyielding affix that can roll on any non-power armor can give players a whopping +15 INT at +3 INT per piece equipped (body, arms, legs.) Also, you can wear the Casual Shielded Underarmor OR the Flannel Shirt for another +3 INT. Also, there's chems and foods that can temporarily boost your INT, though you can have only one of each type active at the same time. Some of the best ones to run for boosting INT are Brain Bombs for food and Berry Mentats for chems. All of these things can be purchased from other players too! Also, if you run mutations like Egghead and Herd Mentality, the Charisma Perk Card Strange In Numbers can boost your INT by another +4 so long as you're in a party. Which you should be, because forming a bond with 3 players in a Casual team will net +4 INT as well! And last but not least is the Mechanical Derby Game some players have in their C.A.M.P. which boosts your INT by +2 for 30 minutes!
Now how about boosting XP via percentages to multiply that huge INT boosted base XP you worked so hard for? I've got you covered! Same as before, some things stack but some don't. In this usage case, the Live & Love 8 (+5% XP) magazine doesn't stack with Live & Love 3 (Boost Effects of Food), for example. Same with the Intelligence Bobblehead (+2 INT) and the Leadership Bobblehead (+5% XP). Lunchboxes can stack only up to 4 times and if you pop a lunchbox around other players, the other players all get a boost too! Same if someone pops one near you, free XP boost! Lunchboxes grant +25% XP per box popped, so with four popped, that's double XP! You can also get a whopping +15% XP boost from the Charisma Perk Card Inspirational, and the event going on now, the Mothman Equinox, gives you another +15% XP for an hour if you interact with the purple eyed moth at the end. Also, the easiest bonus to get is your Well Rested/Kindred Spirit/Lover's Embrace buff that gives you +5% XP and is obtained by simply resting in a bed for a bit.
In conclusion and to wrap up this part I want to clarify that you will typically get MUCH more XP in a Casual Team over an Events Team because for a majority of the events, you will be killing tons of enemies and missing out on a +8% boost to the BASE XP of all enemies, ya know, before the multiplier boosts which adds up to be much more XP than you get from the completion reward, even when its doubled. Daily Ops is a different case because you are typically trying to run it fast and skip over fights if possible, but otherwise don't sleep on Casual Teams.

How to Farm XP

So now that we've written a small book on how to boost our XP, how are we going to actually GET the XP? Well the best ways is to kill enemies with a high base XP reward, and lots of them. For example, the super mutants at the famous WesTek Research Center provide a high base xp reward and so do glowing enemies, like ghouls, which can be more or less "made" by dropping a nuke on Whitesprings. Events are great for this as well, especially Radiation Rumble and Eviction Notice, but typically all of the events have a good amount of enemies to kill and reward you with exclusive rewards, so its typically savvy to hit the events as they come up unless you know what it has to offer and just don't need it.
Now hold on there, pardner! You don't actually have to do all the work when it comes to killing the enemies to get their XP. And to squash any rumors going around, doing more damage does not, in any way, net you a higher amount of XP!!! You simply have to do 1% of the damage to an enemy to get its FULL XP reward, and yes this applies to every single enemy, even bosses. Really all you have to do is shoot each enemy maybe once or twice and you'll be drowning in XP during those big events. A great weapon for this is the Tesla Rifle because it chains to nearby enemies when you hit something, allowing you to tag multiple enemies while only having to aim at one! Also, Nuka-grenades have a massive AOE, just make sure you aren't boosting explosive damage or anything so you aren't one shotting everything (and yourself.) And try to make sure your party is there doing the event with you because if they happen to get a kill you missed, you still get a little bit of XP which is better than nothing.
That's all for now though, and do let me know if I missed anything or messed up any info!

2024.05.16 20:01 Fredrickthyme Impressionistic Master - Debussy’s Contribution

Claude Debussy, a prominent figure in Impressionist music, revolutionized harmony, melody, and cultural perceptions in music through his innovative compositions. Let's break down his impact statistically:
  1. Harmony:
    • Debussy's harmonic language moved away from traditional functional harmony, embracing modal and pentatonic scales, whole-tone scales, and parallel chords.
    • Statistical analysis could show a decrease in the prevalence of traditional tonic-dominant relationships and an increase in the use of non-functional harmonic progressions.
    • Debussy's harmonic vocabulary expanded the tonal palette available to composers, influencing subsequent generations of musicians.
  2. Melodies:
    • Debussy's melodies often featured fluid contours, incorporating elements of pentatonic and whole-tone scales.
    • Statistical analysis might reveal a departure from conventional melodic structures, with a focus on atmospheric, evocative lines rather than traditional, singable melodies.
    • His melodies often blurred the lines between melody and accompaniment, contributing to the overall impressionistic aesthetic of his music.
  3. Culture:
    • Debussy's compositions challenged traditional notions of form, structure, and tonality, reflecting the changing cultural landscape of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
    • His rejection of German Romanticism and embrace of French musical traditions helped to establish a distinct national identity in French music.
    • Through his use of exoticism and non-Western musical elements, Debussy contributed to the broader cultural fascination with the exotic and the mysterious during the fin de siècle period.
Statistical analysis of Debussy's compositions could provide insights into the frequency of specific harmonic progressions, melodic contours, and stylistic features. By examining patterns and trends within his music, researchers can better understand his unique contributions to the development of music harmony, melody, and cultural expression.
  1. Cultural Examples:
    • French National Identity: Debussy's rejection of German Romanticism and his embrace of French musical traditions helped to establish a distinct national identity in French music. His compositions, with their evocative depictions of French landscapes and folklore, contributed to a sense of cultural pride and nationalism.
    • Impressionist Movement: Debussy's music is often associated with the Impressionist movement in painting, which sought to capture the fleeting impressions of light and color. Like the Impressionist painters, Debussy focused on atmosphere, texture, and suggestion rather than precise detail, creating music that is more about mood and impression than literal representation.
    • Cultural Exchange and Exoticism: Debussy's fascination with non-Western music and exoticism is evident in works like Pagodes from Estampes and La soirée dans Grenade from Iberia. These pieces incorporate elements of Javanese gamelan music and Spanish flamenco, reflecting the broader cultural fascination with the exotic and the mysterious during the fin de siècle period.

2024.05.16 19:31 BreakNice2838 "Manic Pixie Aspergirls" – and other NT (like "empty") creations

BLUF: Autistic people, currently, especially those who present as having “woman autism” are being used as props. This is good for no one.
People with autism seem almost to be, in Langston Hughes’ phrase “in vogue” (and as he noted, their wages – and acceptance – aren’t growing any). One example is that for those with “woman autism”, there has been an adoption by other women as something like magic pixie dream girls (that is, they’re used, if only rhetorically, for others’ aggrandizement). This is exemplified by the meme “girls with autism vs. boys with autism” [an example], which is patently mocking toward the latter (though by the comments on such productions, “the latter” can’t quickly pinpoint the mockery, which increases the “hilarity”. And if you believe in upping autistic solidarity, downing bullying, you’ll downvote such memes thoroughly. That few people do that, is indicative of the commonest human attitude toward autistic people).
But this is only one instance: in fact, events such as “autism awareness month” are instituted by non-autistic people and have, on this writer’s assessment, nihl positive impact for actually autistic people. (Have personally observed people use the word “autistic” as a derogatory, later proudly construct “AAM” banners). So what (aside from “Autism Speaks” Naked Lust For Profit) are autistic people used for?
Implicit in the idea of the “Manic Pixie Aspergirl”, specifically, seems to be the notion that women lack social grace and emotional intelligence, if, and only if, they’re “diseased”. Ergo, “healthy” women must have loads of “EQ”, which authorizes women’s gaining preeminent political power, which aim is implicit in most social justice discourse (e.g., Justice Ginsberg’s implicit claim that nine women justices would somehow be better able to rule on prostates, than nine men would be able to rule on ovaries.) Efforts for social justice are not “wrong”; they do currently incline toward power struggles that tend to injustice, as we’ll show.
Victims deserve an end to their victimization. Yet, to achieve power in pursuit of this aim, implies surmounting (or establishing) a power hierarchy – but hierarchy implies the caste systems of power which enable and indeed, require, victimization, e.g., of the out-group or underclass of the hierarchy (so that Ms. Wilkerson’s analysis is incomplete: hierarchy is a general condition of humans’ acting in concert [discounting the “free association” notion of anarchism, as seldom-observed, though anarchism as a field is a lamentably neglected]. Ergo, victimization of someone is intrinsically associated with a “society”).
If autistic people are only an abstract group in need of “awareness”, and at that, used for the benefit of others (or for non-autistics to flatter themselves with their unmerited attention bestowed unto the “sick”), then better to eschew society and its incessant victimizing hierarchies altogether.
Indeed, the general characteristic of autism is a difficulty in operating with non-autistics; we suppose any society, hierarchical or no, if majority non-autistic, tends to exclude them. So long as the non-autistic people exist and are in a majority, operation for autistic people is a basic impossibility.
Anyone who claims to be an “ally” of autistic people therefore must be a hypocrite, or disingenuous; most are parents for whom their autistic children are less a loved-one, than a problem . They’re happy to use autistic people as cudgels against Lena Dunham or Sia, or whomever, in their “who’s ‘in’, who’s ‘out’” one-upmanship social games. They don’t, e.g., accept stimming is just something some people do sometimes. No reason to think they ever will.
Besides, alliance implies reciprocity. Social reciprocity, in which autistic people will not be allowed to participate, and there’s no evidence “allies” have ever or will ever be recompensed in any way for any pains they take, nor are they historically useful for liberation anyway. And hypocrisy is the beginning of willful injustice as contradiction is of logical error.
(For how is it the inventors of heroin and rape should describe anyone else as “disordered”? And these people actually think there’s such a thing as “eye contact”, that that isn’t just staring at someone’s eye-holes, which it is, actually. As if any given facial configuration can’t indicate at least two emotions, as it does, so that they “read body language” as only what their wishful thinking makes it – which is what they actually do, and why harassment happens. In short, if they’re so damn “ordered”, and so superior in communicating: how could war exist? It couldn’t – ergo, they aren’t ordered. And so if truly a “bellum omnium contra omnes”, then how to cooperate to negotiate a social contract? So Thomas Hobbes was wrong).
People don’t actually like one another – which you’ll learn if ever you try to make the world a better place, after you fail because nobody would let you. How could they: nobody without autism notices enough to know anyone or anything else (which is the actual difference: the humans don’t notice jack sh*t. They just assume by wishful thinking: “I want you, so your face means you want me”; “I hate you, so your face is provoking me”. Autistic people notice the details and have to think it all through, and that can take years; lively conversations can’t take years, and people without pleasing conversation are disregarded).
The solution is to follow Charles Bukowsky’s epitaph-advice. And don’t ever try to have sex with anybody, and don’t want to. Everyone follows that advice: no more harassment. Who could ask for anything more? Besides, if it were so damn good why aren’t they always doing it? But they aren’t. So it isn’t. And it isn’t.
Whereas “Tohru Honda”-esque compassion that might make life bearable is nowhere observed, nor practiced.
Nor anyway is life “meaningful”: Psalm 30, verse ten/Psalms), flatly states the author did not believe in a “heaven” in spite of their supposed proximity to miracles. Hence the other Abrahamic faiths falter as genetic errors, descended from Judaism, considering the appeal of them all was an ultimate heavenly reward for the ills of life. Other faiths are inadequate, example, Buddhism’s compassion is in opposition to its non-attachment.
From all we now know and seemingly could know, life is as rolling a four on a pair of dice. It just happened. It doesn’t matter. (Obvious after attending at another’s deathbed, and being in a car that “died”. Only recently are both possible, and only recently is the former rare, so few know. In each case, they make odd noises, and then they just – stop. No “soul”, unless cars have souls. Soul a misconception).
It’s important only if there were someone to say: “If I roll a four, we all get laid.” In the beginning there was no such storyteller. Stories – lies – are the only thing that present an appearance of good in life. This is a “tragedy” only for humans telling a tragedy-tale. For the universe, it’s just something that happened. And later will unhappen. And never mattered, as accidents just happen, don’t “mean”.
It's difficult to avoid telling stories to yourself, but it’s the only way to acceptance which is all that you’ll ever have, since you can accept losing everything, too. The most beautiful lie is still only a lie, and it’ll leave you when you need it, because it was never there.
Probably better to leave.

2024.05.16 19:20 Im-Gloxinia Searching for a pattern

Pattern for a cosplay
I’m trying to find a free pattern for a cosplay I’m working on. The cosplay is spider Gwen from Spider-Man: across the spider verse.
I have everything except a pattern. The fabric is four way stretch fabric if that’s needed?
I’ve been sewing for a few years but never clothes or anything…so I’ve never used patterns. So, I don’t really know how to find them or look for them.
If you need my measurements or something to tell me a pattern, I’ll edit the post with them or something but otherwise I won’t.
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.16 18:12 PearlyBeenTrue Is the first part of 6:16 in LA from Drake's POV?

The more I hear it the more I feel like it might make sense. And as we know, Kendrick loves doing verses from the POV of someone else. Here are my thoughts bar-by-bar:

Off-white Sunseeker at the marina, Fuck a Phantom, I like to buy yachts when I get the fever
It’s rare for Kendrick to boast this directly about living a lluxurious lifestyle. Drake, on the other hand, loves doing just that. Furthermore, these lines hint at the photo Drake took of a 14-year old Millie Bobbie Brown on a yacht in an Australian marina. If this angle is granted, then “the fever” not only means an intense urge to buy things, but also an intense urge to…well, you know.
The lines “off-white sunseeker” further testify to it being from Drake’s POV, as he is a mixed (off-white) clout chaser seeking fame (sunseeker). It is also is another witty jab at his phony “blackness” since people seek the sun to tan / temporarily become darker.

Wine cooler spill on my white t-shirt, the sightseer
Drake has repeatedly talked / rapped about how much he loves sweet / fruity drinks (plus, his nickname, Champagne Papi, is based on wine). “Sightseer” is a reference to two things: the way Drake vacations to fancy getaways, and the way Drake treats music / culture like a tourist, visiting trendy scenes, styles, and sounds to “sightsee” and borrow what he needs to stay relevant.

Trifecta: money, morals, and culture, that's my leisure
At first this line seems like it must be from Kendrick’s POV, but the word to hone in on is “leisure.” Unlike Kendrick, Drake treats these topics with very little seriousness—he’s a temporary visitor, coming and going at his leisure. And as Kendrick explicitly points out on his other disses, Drake is bad with money, morally corrupt, and a top-tier culture vulture.

My visa, passport tatted, I show up in Ibiza
This line makes more sense if it’s coming from Drake’s POV. Ibiza is a well-known Spanish island where the rich and famous love to party / vacation. Drake has been spotted there multiples times, and is generally known to travel to a lot of other luxurious party spots (such as the Turks just the other day, which Kendrick mentions in MTG).

Lucalis dwellings in Brooklyn just to book me some pizza
This further emphasizes how Drake acts as “sightseer” of cultures by biting (wink-wink) styles from whatever is trending. The verb “book” is key here since it’s most commonly used in reference to booking a flight or vacation. It feels a bit odd to say someone would “book” some pizza. And, for what it’s worth, Drake has been spotted at this exact establishment.

Who could reach us? Only God could teleport this type of freedom
Lastly, Kendrick is implying that Drake feels untouchable, like someone chosen by God to reign over everyone and do whatever the hell he wants. But as we see in the following line, Kendrick’s POV kicks in as his voice changes and he appeals to God in a prayer about going to war with Drake.
Also a potential "God's Plan" reference.

These are just some random thoughts. I think it would explain the structure of the song better than Kendrick bragging upfront about a luxurious lifestyle, which inherently feels a bit off brand for him anyways, especially in the middle of beefing with a guy who’s obsessed with those things. It would also make the lines later in the song about the OVO moles more thematically relevant if Kendrick is looking "through Drake’s eyes” to start the song.
Either way, 6:16 in LA is a phenomenal track, and one that I think will get more and more attention as time goes on.
