Ceramic Coating / Car Washes

I have a Sequoia Toyota purchased July 4^th 2003 that currently has less the 100K miles.
I have always kept it immaculate bot exterio engine bay and interior. Recently I had Open Heart surgery at 73 years old that went bad and during the surgery I had a stroke. I was in the ICU for a month, rehab for a month and am still not back to my old self. It has made the issue of maintaining the Sequoia a challenge and is now being handled be my wife (70 years old).
Over the years it mostly been hand washed and waxed and many times run through a car wash. Detailers hate car washes and I understand that but they are a necessary for many reasons.
It has been in need of a good detail since February after it was deep detailed. My wife has taken it to the car was at least twice and over 20 years it’s been through a car wash numerous times as have thousands and thousands of other cars. Yes, they do cause hairline scratches at times but when waxed well the are virtually imperceptible. The photo is the vehicle of the Sequoia taken in February. I think it looks pretty darn good. Last week I hired a well know detailer in my area and asked for a deep exterior detail. We made an appointment I was very clear that due to my health and age it was impossible for me and a necessity for my wife to often use the car wash. He immediately recommended Ceramic Coating. He expressed to me it was a perfect product, will stand up well, easy to maintain and the shine would last a year. I thought Win, Win. He applied the coating, it looked great and as he was packing up, I asked him how long do I need to wait before washing as it does sit outside. He said two days and do not take it to the car wash, EVER! He said if it goes to the car wash it is going to come out looking like it had been washed with sandpaper. I lost it. He never told me this prior nor tell me all on the necessary steps need to be followed to maintain the car or it will look terrible. We had a heated discussion about it, he left and I got so sick to my stomach I almost puked. Had I known all of the negatives or intensive work needed to maintain the vehicle I would never have allowed it. It was my mistake to take his word and I should have done some homework on it but he was/is well known in our small town and I had no need to not believe him. I’m now panicked. I cant afford to have someone come and hand wash my car and it is just to much for 70 year old seniors. My question is, how bad is the finish really going to be. Will it be the same as washing a car that is well waxed and gets small scratches like all those others of thousand and millions of cars or is it going to look like a 20-year-old car that has never had any care. I know car washes aren’t great (we don’t have a touchless in our small town). This issue has made my stomach sick and I am considering having the ceramic removed. A different detailer says he can polish it off but it would be stupid to do so. Any suggestions and comments would be greatly appreciated.
I really want the car to continue to look like it does in the photo. 20 years old and spotless. Thank you very much.

Avid AR15 builder here, but have never done an SBR or pistol build. Planning on a PDW build and had some questions. I am following Michigan laws with a CPL. This will be a front seat gun (no it is not overboard, I live two miles from east Flint). 1. Is there a more stable rifle round than 300 Blackout for a short barrel? 2. I want full Ambidextrous capabilities (car ambush defense gun). Advice for the lower is wide open. 3. Struggling with charging handle issues. A rear (standard) charging handle gives me ambi options but requires more physical room (eldows and arms) to charge in a vehicle. With that being said, should I scrap ambi options with the rear charging handle and go with a left hand side charger (because charging a right handed gun with your left hand makes sense)?

I made a stupid mistake. I was sitting at home when I heard car horns outside. I saw a queue of cars on the right facing left, and a truck stopped in the middle of the road facing from left to right. There was a skinny ginger chap walking in the middle of the road inbetween them, and I thought "FFS, another drunk/crackhead holding up traffic".
So I went out, to suggest he get off of the road. I was a bit passive-aggressive since that's more fun than swearing.
Turns out the truck wanted to reverse into a builders yard, and this chap was spotting for it, he had an actual legit reason for wandering around in the road and blocking traffic. Once the truck had reversed, he came back to the house to set me straight.
Sorry. I feel like an idiot.

My wife purchased a pre-construction condo in 2022 with the hopes of selling it on assignment - the condo is closing this summer and we are wanting to evaluate the implications of forfeiting her deposit and getting hit with a law suit for the losses from the builder in todays market.
(We will definitely try to close the condo or sell on assignment for a loss - but still wanted to evaluate this option)
My wife has no assets, only a car worth $15k, what would be the implications if she files for bankruptcy in Ontario after there is a large judgement on her in 2-3 years worth probably 300k+?
Will bankruptcy even wipe out that debt from the judgement?
Also, I have an asset, a condo that is fully on my name - will I suffer any collateral damages from this?

It’s been a long time I wanted to submit this story to the Potato Queen herself!
It’s a long story, actually it’s two stories in one, because as it involves the same person over more than decade long, it’s worth telling the whole story all at once (and it makes it may more fun too!). I decided to share it because it’s the kind of story that doesn’t seem to happen very often.
Below you will find goodies about an ex, a wedding, a dress, a delivery company and more! Please simply be mindful English is not my first language, trying my best to entertain you all the same.
This story goes back a long way, when (let’s name him) Frank (M) and myself (F) were both in college (both 17 at the time, we’re now 33), young and naive teenagers. We started as friends and eventually decided to be together. We then decided to move to another city together, as I was about to start university.
It went well for a while and then started to go south. So, long story short, after about two years together, we decided to break up. It wasn’t a mean breakup or anything, I think we were mostly disappointed it didn’t work out. Anyway.
We live in the province of Quebec. For those who don’t know, there is this weird tradition of starting and ending about any lease on July 1st. I have no idea why, but Canada’s Day has always been for anybody moving, in this province, a synonym of sweating under the sun, moving boxes, lifting heavy things and ending the day with cold beer and cheap pizza in a new and probably not so clean apartment. Why this context? Because we broke up two weeks before July 1st. It means it was virtually impossible to find another apartment so close to this date. We were about 7 hours away from both our families living on the countryside. We were also awfully broke students. We decided to give it a chance at being roommates.
Yes, it was super awkward at first, really not easy to manage to say the least. We were walking on eggshells and were definitely on edge for a while. There were also some pretty awkward situations, like this one time he decided to bring a one night home as I was sleeping in the adjacent room. Not only that, but the shameful phone call he had to make, waking me up in the middle of the night, so I could unlock the front door because he had forgotten his keys to find out he had brought home an acquaintance of mine. Nowadays I find this story delightfully funny tbh. But on that night, as I couldn’t go back to sleep because the gal decided to show off how an amazing singer she could have been —because, oh boy, this voice carried loudly all the way to my ears for more than an hour — I did not find it funny. I was furious, but prepared myself for the eventuality it would ever happen again. Do you remember the “Tiny Wall Challenges”? Let’s just say I had some games ideas after that night.
Anyway, anybody would probably have walked away but we still deeply cared for each other. We even did better than just survive through this whole year as roommates, we decided to move into a bigger apartment with two other friends. Believe it or not, we stayed there two more years. Moreover, these years were some of the best years and I still keep lots of good memories from this period.
Fast forward to the second part of the story. After being roommates for years, at some point we parted ways and lived our lives. We maintained contact throughout the years and when Frank finally started dating his wife to be, I was absolutely happy for him. He asked her to marry him and she said yes! Our friendship still held such a high place in both our hearts that he asked me to be one of his groomsmen, with his other best friend and his little brother. I felt so honoured, as I was technically a female, to be chosen to be on his side at the wedding.
The bridesmaids chose matching dresses in a beautiful forest green, all from a specialized website from UK, and I was to also be in a dress on the groom’s side, but matching the colour of the other groomsmen suits. With Frank, We all shopped together for their suits, chose a beautiful dark grey for his and a light grey for us, and we were able to match it perfectly with clothing samples I ordered from the website. Everything was going as planned. That being done, I ordered the dress, considering buying two inches heel shoes to go with it. It would take about four months to be done and the dress would arrive about a month and a half before the wedding. I decided to wait for the dress to arrive to pick shoes to go with it.
Four months passed, and I finally received a notice that the dress was on its way. The bridesmaids dresses arrived a bit before mine and they were all absolutely beautiful. As we all ordered from the same shop, we were able to choose different dresses that suited each of our styles, with identical fabrics that made the whole thing look fantastic.
I received the delivery’s notice, saying it was to be delivered by DHL. (If you never had to deal with this delivery company before, let’s just say this in itself is a red flag, but what could I do.)
I chose a delivery date that I could be home all day. I awaited their arrival, and waited. At some point I received a notification that they couldn’t deliver it because there was an error in the address. I called DHL customer service as soon as I read it and could verify with the clerk on the phone that there was no error on the original delivery address and that actually, internally, they miss-wrote a letter of the postal code. The person assured me that the delivery person would be notified and they would then be on their way back.
I waited. It never came.
The next morning, I received a notification that, unable to deliver it, the expeditor had agreed to DESTROY the package! I screamed! Why in the world would the UK online shop allow to destroy a custom made dress that took four months to do?! And why the hell the delivery service didn’t make any other attempt after being responsible of the address error in the first place. I was beyond mad. I called DHL, they confirmed someone at the company had agreed on the destruction of the item. I wrote to the person I was in contact with from the beginning at the online shop (this lovely clerk who clearly never asked for any of this). Over there, they couldn’t find who the hell agreed to this insane request to destroy the dress. They were also appalled and didn’t understand how it could have happened. They could put a request to redo the dress rush, but we first needed to either try to stop the destruction from happening by going to the DHL warehouse directly, or to obtain a proof from DHL that the dress was irreversibly lost forever.
It felt surreal! The fiancées were both furious too. There was only one DHL warehouse we could go to do this kind of request in the city and it was really far. As the clock was ticking, they jumped in their car, joined me, and to the warehouse we went, arriving a few minutes before closing like an epic movie scene. The clerk there was mind blown by the whole situation. It seemed we were too late and the best we could do was to have the proof that, in their system, the dress had effectively transited and was destroyed.
With photos as proof in hand, I forwarded everything to the clerk of the online dress shop. Days passed, as they were awaiting the okay to start sewing a new dress. They were really trying their best to help the situation but it seemed to be a mess over there about the whole situation. We were now a month before the wedding. At some point, I was starting to panic. They finally agreed to redo it, but it would be waaaay too close before the wedding to receive it. Like a few days before kind of close, if nothing happened in transport this time.
I decided to go shopping for another dress. I spent a whole day trying to find the perfect grey that would fit the other groomsmen suits. In the last possible boutique, there was one dress checking all the criteria. I bought the new one and wrote to the first shop, hoping they would agree to refund the lost dress.
I took an appointment later that week to do the adjustments on the new dress. I then shopped for shoes. I found a cute pair with one inch heel that would be perfect for me. I’m not used to walking with heels, so the lower the better after all.
Like all this turmoil wasn’t enough, my family called and told me that my grandfather’s health suddenly decreased. Remember? Seven hours drive from family. I canceled some plans and bought a ticket for the night’s bus ride right after the dress fitting. On that morning, the UK shop agreed to refund the dress. That part was a big relief. I went to the dress fitting. At last, three weeks before the wedding, The second dress would be ready in about seven days. I came back home to gather some things to get back out to catch my bus.
But suddenly, the doorbell rang.
I opened.
Some DHL delivery man casually gave me a package and left.
Yes. That’s what you think.
I closed the door, went to my room, sat on the bed, opened the bag. It was indeed the first dress. I had a melt down. I cried so hard. I put the dress down, looked at it, told it “I’ll deal with you when I come back” and went away to the bus station.
Few days later, coming back from the family, I collected the second dress and dealt with the first one, which no longer fitted the length of the shoes! My MIL at the time knew an old lady who was lovely enough to accommodate me and do the fitting of the first one for a as modest price. I decided to keep it a secret until the wedding day. (These friends wouldn’t do any drama about reveals etc, nor would they think it was stealing any of their thunder, don’t worry about that.)
On the wedding morning, I effectively surprised the bride and groom with both dresses. They were mind blowed, flabbergasted to say the least! I put the original one for the official photoshoot and discretely changed right after dinner for the other one. People around that had followed the incredible adventures were laughing out loud and finding it hilarious that I decided to wear both of them as I had so much troubles!
Quite a story with dresses and with an ex, right? Guess what, I’m also the godmother of their first child!

2024.05.16 19:22 pict_berry AITAH for not letting my homeless bf stay with me?

Like the title says, my (50f) significant other (44m) is currently living out if his car or with friends. We've been together 6 months and in the beginning, I had no idea about his living situation. He had recently left a live-in handyman type of position at a large rural compound to be closer to this side of the island where his sister lives. He stayed with her some, friends some, while I assumed he was looking for a place. His work is freelance; he's a skilled boat builder and repairman but takes minimal work. He could easily make a steady income with it if he'd manage his time well but has trouble getting along with authority and committing to schedules. The longer I'm with him, I suspect definitely suspect neurodivergence or some type of mental issue. But, he's fun, we get along, he's attractive and generally compatible with me. Problem is, I don't see how he's going to resolve his living situation. As we've gotten closer, he does sleepovers at my house sometimes. He's a stellar guest, cooks, cleans, buys things for the home, everything. BUT, the closer we get, the more he pressures me to let him stay like every night. If I don't offer, he gets verbally abusive calling me selfish and other worse names. I am a mom of 3 kids ages 22, 18, and 11 and they all live with me (oldest moving out to law school this summer). I just can't "move a guy in" like that, though they can tolerate him at times....and that's exactly what it feels like: tolerance. It's a small community and they're hip to the fact that he's currently without a home. AITAH for expecting him to figure out his own place to stay on the days he's not with me? I need my time and space. I told him no matter who he was or how much money a guy has, I'm in no way ready to live with someone full time. He says I'm heartless. But back when he was getting to know me, he hid all his frustration and acted just fine. Now I walk on eggshells to even call him during the day because it's usually going to turn into a drama/argument/guilt trip about where he's sleeping that night.
First update: I'm NOT asking if I should let him move in. I clearly have not and will not and do not want to.
I'm asking if, like he says, I am an asshole/coldhearted/selfish etc for not letting him.

So, I study in Delhi and I these are my observation based on real life incidences/events.

One of my friend is in relationship with a girl since 15 months, he has caught her cheating on him thrice (virtual, one kissing, one makeout session with her ex) and still he wags his tail around her and she is treating him like puppet, whole hostel knows it. We tried to put sense in him but he did not learn, so now we stopped asking him to leave her (as he made it clear, its impossible for him to leave her and he cant)

Now, yesterday, I was in his room and his mother was video calling, she told him that she misses him and he should come once this month, he goes home once in three months and all though his home is 6 hours away only. I go home every month even though my home is 7 hours away.
So, he made number of reasons/excuses - exams, viva, what not.
When he cut the call, I asked him, "Bhai, chala ja, aunty ka mann hai"

Gracie has been the most angelic puppy I’ve ever had, caused virtually no destruction as a puppy. She is now 14 months old and has become a bratty teenager. I’m pretty sure this is just a thing we’re going through but I was curious if anyone else has had this experience. She’s also much more independent & active than what I read most of you say about your Velcro/chill dogs. She is driving the other dog in the household crazy. Mind you she gets a couple of decent walks a day and quite a bit of playtime with me, as well as play dates. She seems to physically get tired eventually, but not mentally lol. I’ve had issues with her getting in the car. We did great for several months but she has since decided she’s no longer willing to get in the car and I don’t wanna force her (working with trainer on this for past several months) but this does mean she can’t go to work with me, which was offering her a lot of stimulation. She has a big backyard and a doggie door, someone is always home but I feel bad that it seems like I can’t meet her needs as she seems so wound up? Sorry, this is so long! TL/DR pension early + unexpected windfall. Do we have enough? 40k net annual income w/ health insurance. Liquid in 2 million range. 400k in retirement accounts. Mid forties. Health issues. Where to go with dogs?
Original plan was to FIRE in 10 years when husbands pension kicked in. He’s 45, I’m 43.
Have about 400k in retirement though mostly untouchable to us now as primarily 401k. Maybe 50k in brokerage, 70k in cash accounts. Conservatively 550k equity in our house. No other debt beyond our mortgage at sub 3% interest. Which is timed to be paid off in about 10 years as well. We’ve stopped making extra payments on it and have been stashing money in savings instead due to interest rates. Only kid is through college, debt free! (yes we started quite young -he was a happy, but scary surprise). We have 3 cars, a couple motorcycles, and a big farm tractor that would probably net 120k if we liquidated all. Have no idea what we could net on other household items. I do have some inherited artwork that holds some value, and some jewelry. Husband owns every tool in existence I think.
The change is my husband was injured on the job and after nearly a year of recovery, PT, surgery etc it looks now like he will not be cleared to return to work. Simultaneously, my company is being acquired and because of my role, I will not be expected to stay on long post acquisition. Expected to receive 100k in severance at my departure.
And then last week we were offered just a bit more than a million dollars for some acreage we own adjacent to our house.
We would not want to stay in our home next to this development. We picked up this land as kind of a lark a few years ago. It was completely landlocked so very cheap and is just forest. We were able to get special environmental status on it so pay virtually nothing in taxes Mostly we did it to preserve our backyard view and privacy, and to make sure no one else on an adjacent lot on the street next to us, who would be able to provide access, picked it up and tried to develop it. Well that’s what is happening now. A developer is interested in purchasing a neighbors empty 10 acre lot, with street access, if we will also sell. The neighbor is anxious for us to say yes.
So we could not sell the land, I could get a new job post acquisition and stay where we are. But that does not seem smart as we would get more than 20x gain in 5 years on what we paid for that land, though that kind of value is only possible when it’s tied to a neighbors lot with access. Also, with my husbands injuries we have had to take on some additional expense to maintain our property as there are things he can no longer do. Our lot is a couple of acres on its own. I would need to find a job making significantly more to make up for husbands income loss and additional expense and that doesn’t seem likely locally. I’m at about the top of my industry pay scale currently for our location. Obviously I’ll have a buffer with my severance, but I will be lucky to find another position making what I do now. As I had to know about the acquisition early, I got a fairly sizable salary bump to retain me during the transition.
We could sell and move locally or somewhere else in the US I suppose. But the plan had always been to FIRE when he got his pension, and with the revenue from the land it feels like maybe we could do this now?
We’re both social security eligible with sufficient credits, but that’s quite a ways away if it will still even exist then. Approx 3500 a month collectively at age 67, if we stop contributing in the near future per social security website and accounting for WEP.
We’ve spent a lot of time in Portugal, Spain and France and the plan had always revolved around Europe, to be determined largely by tax implications in place at that time.
We don’t love hot, but I’ve been thinking about Mexico as we also have two dogs right now that I can’t imagine parting with. I realize not ideal, but we’ve always been a dog owning family and our plan was to bring no new dogs in the 10 years leading up to his retirement so we would not have this encumbrance then. But with a timeline shift, that plan becomes irrelevant. Anyone drive into Mexico with pets?
I would plan to work some. Probably consulting. I do a little bit of that now on the side and I think part time I could probably bring in 30-40k. But for budgeting I’d rather treat that as bonus money as I don’t know how quickly I can get it set up etc. I don’t know about my husband. All of his jobs and hobbies have historically been quite physical, so this is a major shift for him.
Thinking we were still a ways off I have done enough research to be dangerous. When he got hurt a year ago, I never imagined he wouldn’t eventually go back. I know staying in US, unless we significantly downsize and alter our lifestyle, my husband will feel like he has to do something for work. I don’t want that for him. He has worked incredibly hard, at his primary job and various side hustles to provide a wonderful, stable, financially sound life for a young family that was dead broke when we started out. With this injury, I want him to relax and hopefully continue to heal.
We will have his excellent US health insurance benefits intact, but will likely need to supplement to make sure he can continue to get any ongoing care he needs.
We’re probably going to have make some decisions relatively quickly on the land. We’re good with living a lot more simply, but also don’t want to be in a position where we feel like we’re counting every penny to survive. Should we try this? Where would you go? With pets!

2024.05.16 16:05 Super_Committee_730 What's keeping every cop to just go "I smell weed" whenever they want to search a vehicle?

I've seen a bunch of those body cam videos on YT and I have a question.
I know laws are different from state to state but, from what I can gather, you need probable cause to search a vehicle/house/whatever, in most cases.
But that hurdle kinda seems like not much of one, when a police officer can just pull the good ol' "I smelt weed" card to justify a search. Smells come and go, and are pretty subjective, what's keeping a cop from just using it like a cheat code for searches? The search might not even produce any weed, all it takes is for the person to have smoked or been around anyone smoking. It's virtually impossible to prove I did not smell weed if I claim I did.
It's kinda the same when they pull people out of cars for field sobriety tests. This wouldn't even be an issue in other countries cuz, rightfully or otherwise, they can just command you to get out of the car and/or be breathalyzed, period.
But since it is a thing in the US, how can a cop just claim they smell alcohol on you?

2024.05.16 15:34 FuzzyyFox I finished Far Cry New Dawn for the first time...

Marked as a spoiler as the post will be discussing events and characters from both New Dawn and 5
So about a week or so ago I uploaded a post talking about my experiences with finishing Far Cry 5 for the first time. It done pretty well and I had a great time discussing so many different aspects that I said I'd follow it up with New Dawn. And after a gradual playthrough, here I am again.
The first thing that caught my attention was the world. Obviously the map itself is a mirror of Far Cry 5 and, to my knowledge, Primal(?) but the actual world design was just so beautiful. The vibrant colours with the floral and animals felt stunning to look at to the point where I spent a lot of the early game (from roughly Prosperity to Hopes End and surrounding areas) exclusively walking place to place simply because the way the world was designed felt so beautiful. The flourishing nature mixed with the broken remnants of human civilisations with old buildings, cars and other objects was so fun to explore especially when comparing what we see in Far Cry 5 to their changes in New Dawn. In the world's I have currently had extensive exploration in (4, 5 and New Dawn), New Dawn is by far the most visually and aesthetically pleasing to look at.
Characters. Starting with the Guns/Fangs For Hires (GFFH's), the roster was a massive improvement over 5. In 5 there was not much to be behold. Sure the characters each had their own personality but building any sort of relationship with them felt difficult as they just didn't feel very connected. That's not to say they were bad in their own way but the only one I really wanted to stick around was Jess and she wasn't unlocked till the final act of (my) playthrough so it felt more like tacking her on because she was my favourite and nothing more. This was immediately fixed with Carmine in New Dawn. You get her right at the very start of the story and she was the one that I kept with me the entire game (save for a few minor instances). She was with me in both the beginning and the end and you can physically see her personality evolve. At the start she's a fairly timidish kid who you can tell is still adapting to fighting in the world. But as the story progresses she becomes more confident, even swearing vengeance. But you also see how she holds herself to blame for so many actions which makes sense since she was the one who brought Rush and the Train to Hope County. The progression and connection with her was exactly what I wanted in 5 and just wasn't something you got with any of the characters in my opinion. Even beyond Carmine the roster was so unique that each had some sort of lasting impression. Jerome, a fan favourite returning now as a permanent ally. Nana, a bad ass old woman because who doesn't love having an elder kicking ass at their side? The Judge who I swear if Carmine wasn't so good would've been my instant permanent knowing who they were, what they'd been through. Honestly I love everything about them in this way and the fact I was limited only to 1 was heart breaking. Hurk is an ever returning character in the series in some form or another, but him having a partner who seemed just as crazy as him that doubled as an ally was so cool, i just hate that im blanking on her name. Timber may have just felt like a Boomer replacement but in a way I think that that is the best thing for it. It feels similar while also feeling like a reincarnation of a loved ally. And then Horatio... do we need to describe why the pig is so cool? I haven't actually unlocked Horatio yet but I mean come on. It's a boar. Who's name is Horatio. I love him. Even with the NPCs, the mix of returning characters, both physically like the Rye Family and Joseph Seed or through notes like Skylar or the comic book girl, who's treasure hunt was so sick by the way, and New characters like Ethan and the Twins all felt so impartial to the world showing the mix of old world Survivor's and new world builders. But when it comes to Joseph, Ethan and the Twins I'll go more into detail with them further below
Mechanics. Obviously this game marks the first of the series with a number of new features such as ranks, crafting materials, health bars, there was a lot of significant changes but honestly? I'm not mad about them. Although I said crafting different ranks of guns was new here we did actually see a similar feature in Primal where the weapons were continuously upgraded to better ranks. This was just the natural extension of such in a way that felt very fitting to the aesthetic of the game. The gun designs were great the way so much junk was turned into different attachments like Bayonets, silencers, scopes etc. Health bars just aren't that big if a deal and if anything are more helpful for understanding the challenges ahead. However I do also see why people aren't a big fan of them so I believe an option to turn them off should've been added. Overall I loved the way these Mechanics worked I think they were super fun and refreshing
Twins, Joseph and Ethan... the highlights of the game. I'll start with the Twins because they're the easiest. Despite what people think they're fine. They're not bad in any way I can see. They're doing what people do in an Apocalypse. We find loads of notes from before the highway men that say other people didn't trust each other and stole form each other and were ready to kill each other. And the truth is despite the peaceful treaty between New Eden and Properity, neither of them cared to help each other survive. New Eden didn't help when Prosperity attacked and Prosperity didn't help when New Eden was attacked. The only reason they were working together was because they both wanted rid of the Highway Men who threatened their peaceful wishes. But it's because of the environment that I think people don't like the Twins so much. Think about Vaas. About Pagan Min. About Joseph Seed. Each of them are horrible lunatics, psychopaths living in OUR world. Living in a functional society. Breaking the norms and peace of a society for their own twisted gains. They cause chaos. But when there is no society to follow, and everything is already chaos, people causing chaos just aren't that fucked up. Aren't that relatable. They're looking out for themselves in the worst way possible but doing it in the worst possible scenario already. Other villains are impartial because when they do in their respective games is terrifying at the thought of that happening in real life. But we all know if we were in New Dawn, everyone would act like the Twins anyway. Pagan Min stabs a guy in the neck for shooting a bus filled with rebels. Vaas kidnaps tourists and kills/tortures them. Joseph Seed runs a cult where everyone in it is of themselves tortured, drugged and brainwashed. The Twins aren't any different to any other Highway Men. And I think that's why people don't like them. Because they're not impactful. Especially when you learn that there are other Highway Men throughout the New USA. Some of which even seem to be implied as bigger threats. A followup game where some sort of Highway Men super leader comes to Hope County and totally ruins it again as an act of revenge for standing up to them would be so much more impact full. A true threat. And to make it new, Kim might tell you that the people and resources of Hope County can't defeat someone like that. So the protagonist chases them to a new area of the US to recruit new people to stand up to them. Just a thought though.
Joseph and Ethan... Ethan had every right to be mad to be honest. Joseph as a character has fulfilled his purpose by the time New Dawn comes around. He claimed the collapse was coming. He prepared everyone for it and although not everyone, many did survive. Those who did rose from the bunkers but Joseph had nothing left to teach. All he could do was guide them into New Eden, a self sustaining utopia where man and animal live in harmony living only off the land taking only what was needed. He had done his purpose. But the people saw he was right and couldn't live without his guidance. To him he really was the shepherd of God who had guided them out of destruction. But what more could he teach? He was no longer a preacher. He was no longer a leader. With this, he had nothing left to teach Ethan. What could he teach him? How the collapse was to come? It had already come. And his mother Megan admits that Ethan was raised as a non-believer. Ethan from a young age did not believe in the religious basing that New Eden was founded upon. And he saw what New Eden had become. They were held back, restricted by the beliefs and limitations that Joseph's word had built them into. And when Joseph found his new purpose, the watchman over what he perceived as God's Holy Fruit, Ethan was left as the stand in. But none of them listened to him. No one wanted to move on, to better the world. They wanted to keep to themselves, and double down on Joseph's beliefs even when he had none left. Then the Security Captain shows up. A total stranger. Someone who just like Ethan is working to build a better world. Their strategies may have been different, with Ethan still wanting a self sustaining Utopia as evidence by his clothing, but the security captain still relished in the old ways of society. Two different approaches to meet the same goal. And yet Ethan, despite all of his efforts was met with nothing. No one listened to him. They all turned their backs on him once Joseph returned from his recluse just to crown the SC as their leader. Of course he was going to be mad. I think that after SC is met as the leader, and Ethan turns to the Twins for a deal, I think that's where his sympathy and logic come to a halt. He no longer wanted a better world he was just driven by revenge. But each of their characters were so good and I had to do some thorough research into whether to spare Joseph or kill/Release him. I ultimately chose to spare him but only really because his body apparently just disappears and to me that didn't really make canonical sense for it to just poof XD
In conclusion, the game was absolutely fantastic and I could still say so much more so just like my post on FC5 I hope we can have a lot of good discussions :) if you made it this far, thank you :)
