2024.05.13 19:01 Ok-Power-7369 Help me choose my next luxury watch - all suggestions welcome

Hi fellow watch enthusiasts,
I would love your help in deciding on what should be my next purchase to add to my watch collection.
To give you some background: I am tunring 30 in July and besides saying goodbye to my twenties, I also have some other milestones I would like to comemorate. one of them beying the purchase of a house as well as a promotion outside of work that could constitute a "graduation" of sorts and took 7 years to get to.
I work in sales for a large coffee company. My work atire is mostly business cassual with regular dress up, black tie/white tie occasions.
I am unlucky in the sense that I am a 6ft tall, well built guy with a 6.25 inch wrist (at least its flat) so 40/41mm is kind of the limit for case size. Personally, I preffer smaller over larger with the 36mm to 38mm being the sweet spot.
Current state of collection from most to least worn:
  1. Tudor Royal 38mm blue - my daily driver
  2. Casio G-shock Square - for outdoors and manual work.
  3. Casio Lineage Titanium - Graduation gift from grandparents, but doesn't get much wrist time except when the Tudor would attract too much attention.
  4. Vostok Komandirski - Honestly no idea why I bought it, think i was drunk at the time. Think i wore it for a week. Probably shouldn't have even mentioned it.
I would eventually love to have a 3 watch collection that covers all ocassions. The Royal is a pretty decent all rounder and has been my daily for past 3 years. Its a great piece but I am not discounting replacing it with another daily now or later down the line.
Budget is in the £3,000 - £4,000 range but could be pushed up for the right piece.
Quite open to most brands so any suggestions as to what to add to build up a 3 watch collection and keep for life would be very welcome.

2024.05.09 21:35 RequirementUsed3961 calculator recommendations

curios what a bunch of calculator nerds might be able to recommend me, ive been using the Casio FX991CW, its a spectacular calculator, tons of features, very thin, lightweight. but im kinda looking for something smaller.
idk if there even is older nicer looking calculators that have some of these newer features or not but i figured id ask on a calculator subreddit
(new or old dosnt matter but i do want something smaller, that feels nice, the buttons on the 991cw suck ass and the whole thing feels kinda cheap, but is still an amazing calculator for the money)
side note : i use the the 991cw as my daily calculator in my bag, use a TI83 at my desk at home but use a FX350ES+ on exams as its the nicest one my program allows on exams at my uni.
some of the features i want : these are pretty much the only features i use, granted most of them are very easy to do manually but i do enjoy being able to hit 2 or three buttons and end up in whatever notation i need.
-scientific notation
-engineering notation
-reduces roots to lowest radicals
-reduces fractions to lowest possible
-a complex math feature

2024.05.09 16:00 nl-bob Mi band 7 => experiences and question regarding tracking multi-sport activities.

I've recently bought a mi band 7 (only used it for a day) - I definitely like it but still figuring out some stuff.
Installed Zepp Life and syncing with my Android phone was pretty straightforward. Installed another watch face "time flies" - clean and looks great with a black band (imho)
Use it mainly for motivational reasons. I have a knee injury that kept me from sports the last 6 months and now slowly trying to add some activities to my daily routine.
Also interested in sleep tracking. I am definitely lacking deep sleep (light sleep and waking up during the night). Funny thing is that according to the mi band I scored 81 out of 100 last night but the mi band confirmed I didn't get a lot of deep sleep..
Pomodoro-timer is great - I used a standard timer on my casio watch all the time, and this is even better.
So that is basically how I want to use it. Noticed the display brightness need to be turned a lot up before going outside to sport.
Selecting one workout works fine but I prefer not to have to change workout from cycling to running/walking. Noticed there is an option for auto-detection? Not sure how this works but cycling wasn't part of the list. Any tips for this or should I just get used to it and manually change workout type if I am going from cycling to running?
Other suggestions to improve tracking or using the device? This is my first activity tracker so pretty sure I am missing something obvious although the UI feels intuitive.

2024.05.07 15:47 Dangerous_Drag1984 [omega seamaster] possibly dumb questions

I always had a mild interest in watches but due to my profession I quickly learned watch collecting isnt something I can afford. Because of this my mom gifted me her Seamaster 300m professional (she makes more than me). This watch is something I could never buy myself so I wanna make it last as long as I can while still enjoying it. I got a few questions.
Firstly, any general tips to keep it lasting long?
Secondly, does anyone have any experiences with how much omega actually covers you with their warranty? The warranty is important to me because like I said, I wouldnt ever be able to afford this myself. I read the manual but the warranty seemed a little vague.
Lastly, should I wear this watch everyday? Im a fire fighter so it would be subject to some extreme heat and humidity. It obviously wouldnt be put on over my structural fire fighting gear so it wouldnt get licked with flames or anything super extrme but it still gets hot. Anyone have experiences of it breaking from some sort of heat such as suanas, left in a hot car etc? Currently leaving it at home when I go to work but wearing it the whole time Im off.
Have very little knowledge about higher end watches, currently only own a casio calculator watch, so any advice helps.

2024.05.06 23:56 sleighgams my casio dg-20 (digital guitar) won't power on.. help?

originally it wouldn't get any juice at all due to a corroded dc power barrel. i replace that today and then when i switched it on the light blinks red for a second before powering off again (this eventually stopped and now i get no light). apparently it's common that transistor T3 malfunctions (and it's only there for a power saving mode) so i bypassed that, but still no luck. I also sprayed contact cleaner into the switch. any other ideas? the service manual is here:

2024.05.06 18:28 DasTechnoir16 My CASIO Celviano AP-470 doesn't sound after I pluged it ino an audio interface.

Good morning everyone, this is my first post here so let me know if I'm breaking a rule from this subreddit.
So this is basically a technical problem I'm having with my electronic piano. I have a CASIO Celviano AP-470 that I bought about 3 years ago and I have continued to learn with it without using most of the features it comes with. However, some time ago I also became interested in recording and mixing (this is just a hobby) since I acquired an audio interface (it's a Behringer UPHORIA UM-2, it's super simple but it was the cheapest I could get with my limited budget). The question is that I tried to connect and record the piano using the OUTPUT that it has and connect it to my interface (using a 1/4 Jack cable), at first it worked fine and there was no problem, however since I disconnected it, the piano speakers do not sound and if I reconnect it, it does not sound either, I tried the headphone output and the same thing, at the beginning it sounded but after disconnecting it it doesn't sound anymore, it still turns on normally but it doesn't sound (not even if I disconnect it and reconnect it), I tried to factory reset it (as the manual says) and it doesn't work either. What do you recommend me to do to solve this problem?

I love Tough Solar! My first second-hand find
I had this exact model in ELEMENTARY school and it was my intro to watches back then. Recently picked up this mint condition model on eBay. Sadly, it’s been discontinued now…I remember the 5 alarm + timer Casio modules fondly. And, just to sweeten the deal, this has a wrist activated backlight too! Seems to be a somewhat rarer breed today than it once was.
Model: WL-500 (Module 2591). User guide can be found here if you want to read more about it!

2024.05.05 15:02 ThatsNotBadAtAll Skmei 2146 review after one month of daily use (My favorite Skmei so far)

Skmei 2146 review after one month of daily use (My favorite Skmei so far)
Got myself this little watch when I registered in AliExpress. There was a welcome offer where a lot of products had crazy discounts, so I took the chance to buy one of the lesser-known (for now) models from Skmei. After a month of using this watch exclusively in a daily basis, here's what I gathered so far:
PROS:
-Extremely high quality compared to other models: I don't know if it's a matter of this model or the brand getting better as time goes on, but this watch greatly exceeds my 9112 and 1412 in the finish department. The looks, feel and weight of it is comparable to the Q&Q and Casio entry models, IMO.
-Great clasp and bracelet: This is my first Skmei watch with a metal bracelet, and I'm impressed with it. Clean finish without any rough or sharp spots, and the clasp is sturdy. I would say it's halfway there with the classic Casio ones.
-Hard to scratch: Got it's fair share of wallrides and cat claw attacks, plus a fall when I was sleepy. The finish and crystal seem to be OK so far.
-Backlight: I say it again. I can't believe a watch this cheap has such a good backlight when my Casio A-158 still has the tiny green thing on the side. For a fairier comparison, took a photo comparing it to the backlight of my Casio B-640. (Photo 8)
-Good dial contrast: Cheap digital watches tend to lack decent number contrast, especially when not looking at the dial front-face. This watch has a good readability.
-Unisex, and for all wrist sizes: I have a skinny wrist and the watch doesn't feel invasive or out of place at all. Got my girlfriend (smaller wrist) and grandpa (big guy) to try it on and it looks good on both.
CONS:
-Most definitely not waterproof: It supposedly has 3 ATM water resistance, but I higly doubt it. There's clearly some gaps in the button holes that will get watee inside the module. I haven't got mine wet and don't plan on doing so. I'll be happy to be proven wrong in the future.
-Odd finish contrast between the case and the bracelet: The case is extremely glossy and the bracelet has more of a brushed finish to it. Not a fan of it. I would've preferred a more toned-down case or a shinier bracelet. (More of a personal con, as I have the same complaint for my Casio B-640)
-Very hard to adjust clasp: Seems to be a recurrent issue with Skmei bracelets. The clasp is just extremely stiff and hard to close when you want to adjust the lenght of the bracelet. Almost took it to service just to close it, heh.
-Poor presentation: Couldn't find a metal case or cardboard branded box. It just comes inside a bubblewrap with the manual and that's it.

That's all for now! I will do an update when I hit the six month of use mark. I would definitely recommend it! It's a nice and not so well known model that won't dissapoint. Hoping to see it in this subreddit! As always, tone your expectations to match a single-digit-value watch ;)

What is this function on the pro trek?
Got a PRW35. What are these digital markings on the edge of the watch face? I don't see them on my watch in any of the modes, and the manual doesn't say anything about it. Does it count the seconds or something? The photo is from the Casio website and it's just on the main timekeeping mode.

2024.05.02 19:59 Hanuman_Jr Tryin' to get that feelin' again

Tryin' to get that feelin' again
Okay, I'm extremely nostalgic about the days I first assembled a 386 op amp kit and how it sounded running a drum through it. Specifically, the drums on some cheap Casio or whatever it was. I have been trying to recreate that sound as well as I can remember it and maybe it's just how I'm feeling but the cheap preassembled boards I have been trying are, although well worth trying for some uses, I think maybe don't give me the sound I remember. Maybe more harmonic content? Not sure.
So here is what I've been trying this week, with two LM386 kits wired in sequence. They don't sound too bad, although I'm going to have to replace those mini pots with something I can mount on the enclosure.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSyKwquDONg
Okay and in other news, here is the kit I bought at Electronics Plus in the 90s. It was a Philips kit. It doesn't appear Philips makes their kits anymore. It's so funny, I can remember the manuals they included. Glossy. And since the little 386 boards I bought on ali express or whatever didn't seem to quite do it for me, it just occurred to me last night I could use this thing as a template and breadboard it and see if it's any different. So that is going to be a little project now. I bought this kit in the 90s, all the dirt and corrosion has been from being floating around in my toolbox for 30 years.
