Hi all,
We're getting a kitchen fitted in 2 weeks. Last week we had a phone call from the company we bought the kitchen from saying that the fitter they recommended us to has been unreliable as of late (not turning up for jobs, leaving them half done, running over etc). They are now recommending we don't use him but essentially leaving the choice to us as he is freelance and they can't dictate to him. We gave this fitter a deposit for nearly £1500 in March (materials + 10% labour).
We have attempted to contact the fitter but he hasn't answered phone calls, emails or letters sent to his home address.
We have now found an alternative fitter, but from a legal perspective is there any way that we can get that money back?
My head is saying if we say to him that we don't want him to do the work any more, then we will be in breach of contract and will surrender the deposit which is sickening.
There is no written contract, just the quote which we accepted, so not really sure where I stand.

x1 Miner application status Apart from the blockchain development, a parallel team is working on the x1 miner application, let's get into the current progress for that commitment:
As we're near to the delivery of the first phase of x1 Miner application, the user onboarding module is complete with the privilege of sign up through phone number and Google. Adding on, the platform has been added with the pre-sale functionality too along with the setting, notification and home functionality. Currently the phase 1 of the application is under testing and bug fixes phase. We'll be delivering the application on store shortly.

I just find it really hard to relate to Zionism. I’m Chinese American. I technically have an ethnostate, Mainland China, but…I don’t feel at home there as a member of the diaspora. (Even if they didn’t have an evil totalitarian government) It’s a classic “third culture kid” situation - I don’t fully belong anywhere. I consciously choose to live in a diverse area in the coastal United States. That’s where I feel safe and like a full part of the community.
I don’t want to have an argument about who is persecuted more. But it’s a fact that change people have faced plenty of adversity and persecution - head tax, genocides in Southeast Asia,war crimes, hate crimes etc. I live every day as a visible minority, which is not the case for many American Jews. There are many places in the US where I feel unsafe. Despite all this, I choose to live in a multicultural society and find happiness here.
Living in my own ethnostate would not make me happy. If given the option to displace an existing multi generational household so I could live in China or a special country for “Chinese Americans” or “Chinese diaspora” I truly don’t see myself taking that option. Upholding apartheid is not worth it for whatever purported utopia, you know?
I’m sorry if this is offensive, but I really don’t get it. I realize that now that Jews are there, it’s not fair to displace them, either, but even if that weren’t the case Tim and Lovett make it sound like they are morally entitled to the concept of Israel or the concept of a Jewish ethno state.
And I just don’t think that anyone is entitled to an ethnostate and they’re not that great anyway. What am I not getting here?

I guess this is kind of a plea for advice, kind of a rant and seeking solidarity!
I recently started a now job. I’m finding it very stressful, which I knew I would. I’m autistic, so work has always been hard for me and I’ve also been unemployed for 5 months so it’s quite an adjustment!
While I was unemployed, I got into some better habits. I started exercising and even completed couch to 5K. My weight loss began at my old job, but it was quite a physical role so it was easier. I’ve lost around 45lbs so far. I want to lose about another 25lbs.
My new job is office based and sedentary. I think it’ll be 3 days per week in the office. On those days I’ll be walking 45 mins each way on my commute (full commute takes me an hour and 15 mins, 2 and a half hours feels like such a big chunk of my day!). On work from home days I don’t move much at all.
I’m finding myself falling back into old habits of comfort eating, snacking on biscuits in the office, drinking lots of sugary coffee because I feel so exhausted. I haven’t run for two weeks and I’m worried about how much progress I’ll have lost. I’ve had a few binge eating incidents too. I struggle to get out of the mindset of food being my treat or pick me up after a tough day.
When I get home from work I’m exhausted. I don’t know how to fit in exercising, eating dinner, getting showered etc when it feels like I have no time. I find myself just wanting to curl up with my phone and hide away. I really want to keep up with getting fit and healthy, I just don’t know how to do it now I’m in a new routine and lots is changing.
It’s been a pattern for me to gain weight when I start a new job, and I don’t want it to happen again!
How do you guys fit in exercise? Are there any ways I can make fitting that in seem less daunting or make it more time efficient? Any tips on how to stop seeing food as a reward/self soothing thing?

Hi, I just moved to northern Europe somewhat rural, and after seeing that my iPhone connected to 5G I bought a Cudy P5 to create a home network.
But the Cudy has a way more problems catching the 5G and/or giving nicer speeds. I have 2 sim cards from my work, so I can test one in the Cudy and one in my iPhone, the iPhone now get 60 down inside the house, but the Cudy sits on 4G unless I put it on the railing of the balcony and has questionable speeds.
I’m fine with getting an external antenna, but baffled by the ease of the iPhone on 5G inside and Cudy struggling… So am I missing something?

The budget isn't all that great, but i got pleasantly surprised when i found the Toyota Auris seemingly checking all the boxes and being available for even less than 15k€ used. After looking at it for a while i found out Toyota was a decade late in adding carplay so even the most modern Auris models don't support AA or Apple Carplay.
I was looking at Toyota cars specifically since they're so reliable buying a used car from them isn't all that risky, and because they're widely available around where i live (Finland).
I would, however, like the car to have AA if we're spending money on a recent-ish model, as otherwise we might as well just get another ~2012 trash heap to save money as from what i've seen Toyota's own entertainment & navigation systems seem pretty worthless. I mainly use Google Maps for navigation, and if the car doesn't have that as an option, i see no point in paying for a fancy touch screen navigation system that i'm never going to use. In that case, Bluetooth audio will be enough, and i'll just use my phone for navigation.
The requirements for the car are as follows:

1. RELIABLE BRAND & MODEL

This is the most important part. If we're buying a used car, we need to be as sure as possible that it's not gonna break down on us for a long, long time, and that we won't need to pay twice the car's price in repairs.

1. General Specs

We are looking for a compact 4-5 seater vehicle for daily- and city driving as well as moderately long drives with a trunk space that can be expanded onto the passenger seats when necessary. It should be compact enough for city driving and parking, but still be able to carry cargo when necessary.
All cars either of us have driven have been manual, but we're willing to give automatic transmission a shot as well! FWD or AWD preferred.

1. Android auto or Bluetooth

As i explained earlier, I see no real point in paying for a touch screen monitor smacked on the console, if it adds nothing to the comfort or practicality of the vehicle. If the car isn't compatible with AA or google maps in some way, all that matters is that it's easy to listen to music wirelessly.

1. Decent audio system

Speaking of listening to music, it would be really nice to be able to enjoy the music as well! Neither of us are audiophiles or anything, but it would be nice if the speakers were good enough to make listening to music while driving fun! :)

1. Fuel

Gasoline or diesel works perfectly, It seems most options fit our needs nowadays are hybrids, which sound great otherwise, but neither of us have any experience with them. We've only heard horror stories about hybrids having reliability issues or being impossible to do routine maintenance to at home (like switching tires), and that they are more likely to fail inspection? I have no idea how true this is but if these are baseless claims, a Hybrid sounds like a great option as well.
Fuel efficiency is a huge plus, though "good" is enough. It doesn't have to be the main focus or anything exceptional. However, the more efficient the car is, the better of course!

1. Price

No more than 20k EUR (Used), or ~250€/ month. Leasing is also an option but i couldn't find any valid prices around here. Besides, i'm mainly just looking for vehicle suggestions, i can look at deals or sales myself as long as it's roughly in the same price category.
The main reason we want to make sure the car is solid and reliable is so we don't have to pay ourselves sick for it's maintenance. If we're considering leasing, it will be so we can make the dealership pay for any possible wear & tear. Again, we're looking for a used car that will last us a while. ^^

I’m using ZT to share selfhosted apps with my family.
While sharing media files, I noticed that transfer speeds are slow even when devices are on the same local WiFi.
To investigate, I set up Librespeed on my laptop. Then I did speedtests via my Android phone, connecting to my laptop. Both devices are on my home WiFi router which supports ~100Mbit/s speed between devices.

• Upon accessing the speedtest service via ZT IPv4 address (10.243.x.x), I get ~30Mbit/s. Coincidentally, this is in fact the maximum upstream speed my ISP plan allows me. Not sure if this is related.
• Upon accessing speedtest service via local router IPv4 address (192.168.x.x), I get ~100Mbit/s, which is what I’ll expect since this is what my router supports.

I don’t know exact overhead of encryption on ZT, but getting only one-third network bandwidth seems too less.
I checked sudo zerotier-cli peers which shows me “DIRECT” connection to phone, beside its local IPv4 address as I would expect.

Last one is my phone. I intentionally changed the path for the first LEAF and ztaddr for both before posting here.
My phone has MIUI 12.0.3, Android version 10. The ZT version as reported on footer of application is 1.12.0-3. I installed it via Play Store.
On my laptop, I have EndeavourOS. zerotier-one -v shows 1.14.0.
Is there any way I can go about troubleshooting this issue? Can I somehow conclusively verify that the connection from phone to latpop is indeed peer - to - peer?

I took the Greek A2 language test yesterday at the University of Cyprus. I am trying to get long term residency since I want GESY and since in a few years my drivers license will expire and the USA will not give its citizens a drivers license unless they live there.
If you live in any EU country you can get long term residency permit after 5 years, with some countries requiring a language certificate. Cyprus requires that you pass the tests at the A2 level.
Probably 95% of the people there were Russians, Ukrainians, and Belorussians.
Anyway, as with all things in this country, the people who administer the test are not very helpful. They are actually in Greece, but the local test is handle by the Cyprus government Υρογργειο παιδείας αθλητισμογ και βεολαιαδ (Minister of Education, Sports, and Culture.)
The Greek office is not very helpful either but they do answer the phone. For example it's difficult to find out when you can register for the test. When you open the registration web page and registration is closed the web page just gives an error. No information.
Anyway, I thought it would be useful to write up everything I learned about the test format, how well you need to know Greek, how to sign up, how to get old tests, what to study, etc., since I had to figure this out the hard way (by myself). Hope this helps you.

Brace yourself, it's a long one.
We have had a bit of a horror week and hope the information may be useful to others. I guess this is also a bit of a cathartic AITA for us as well.
We hired our 18-year-old German au pair privately through an NZ Facebook group. She was in the last month of a long trip here, but her last family could not afford to pay her any more. We put her straight on a salary with our company, gave her a near-new nice car to drive, and even allowed her boyfriend to stay and fed him for over a week.
When we hired her, we insisted on a contract and included an instant dismissal clause for 'gross negligence' - we were glad we did.
She did an okay job. Looking after one four-year-old for around three to four hours a day and a few extra days by arrangement, she would turn up at the exact minute expected and stop working the minute scheduled. She didn't assist with things like cooking, other than one night, or with dishes after she or her boyfriend ate with us. But it's hard to complain about that as it was not like we enforced that as part of the remit.
Anyway, we get to the last week and allow her time off (after having spent the weekend away) to drop her boyfriend at the airport. She arrives back at the absolute last minute and bundles our daughter out the door quickly to go to the park via a local book-sharing room. A bit over an hour later, they rush back in, with the au pair upset and my daughter a bit concerned that a lady had been mean to the au pair. From this point, the stories start changing.
First version: The au pair says she got a call from her mum with some bad news and went to the car, parked around 10 meters away and in complete view of the playground, to take the call so our daughter wouldn't see her upset. She says she was there for three minutes before an angry mum comes up with Maeve, telling her off for leaving her alone, and taking a picture of the car. Having been told the 'bad news', I jump in my vehicle with the au pair to find the woman to give her a telling-off for being so mean to a young lady in a bad situation. Thankfully, we don't find her.
Through the wonder of social media, the mother does, however, find us and her story is rather different from the au pair's:
Second version: The mother tells us our daughter was on her own for 'quite some time', estimated to be at least ten minutes. This park is next door to a competition-standard skate park with some pretty hard skating and big drops, and she wandered all the way over there. There are some details I will skip, but she slowly made her way back to the playground (thankfully not the other way to the major highway) and played more (unfortunately including peeing herself on the slide), approaching other children and parents, and finally latching on to another mother trying to deal with her three kids.
That is when she asked our daughter where her parents were. Our daughter said she was there with her au pair, and after a while, the mother managed to find her where she explained to her the situation just wasn't right. The au pair's biggest concern - that she didn't want the mother to tell us as it would 'ruin her last few days in NZ'.
On this news, we confronted the au pair again who did not deny it.
Third version: The au pair now says she went back to the car as she was cold and wanted to put on more clothes. Our daughter had told her she wasn't cold and wanted to keep playing, so she left her as it was only for a few minutes. But indicated she stayed in the car to warm up and her mother called and following this she lost track of time. We checked phone records later and she had made an outgoing call, she wasn't the one called.
At this stage, my wife is incredibly upset, both from the lies, the fears around our daughter being alone, and that this was somehow her failure. I send the au pair back to her quarters, of a mind that if that is it, there will be no more out-of-home trips but she can see out the week.
But it still feels fishy to me, the au pair doesn't seem upset enough for the news she shared. So I contact a representative of the park to check their CCTV. They promise to do so in the morning. And here comes the kicker...
Fourth version: The park management tracked our daughter around the park, separate from our au pair, for AT LEAST 25 minutes. They can't say it wasn't less than that due to blind spots. The woman there is extremely disturbed that it happened considering the nature of the park, and suggests the au pair needs to be gone immediately. I agree.
At this point it is not just the negligence, it is the lies.
I confront the au pair - managing somehow to stay calm - and immediately dismiss her under the gross negligence clause. I tell her to pack, head back to the living area and book secure accommodation (but the cheapest I would send an 18-year-old daughter to) in the city for the six nights till she flies out, a bus ticket, and a taxi to the bus. I pay for it all, not wanting any comeback and still treating her as human and someone's daughter, even if she didn't extend us the same courtesy.
No apologies, no arguments, but there is a postscript.
The car she was using is, like most new cars, surrounded by cameras. There is even one that records on a small rolling memory in case of accidents, but when the car is off it is off. Her and her boyfriend clearly had panicked, thinking the video evidence we got the timeline from was from the car, and she was upset she didn't know the cameras were recording (they weren't, and can't) as they took the car camping on the weekend. I wonder if the concern came down to the condom wrapper we found in the back seat where my daughter sits, lol!
Anyway, our new, older, more mature Japanese au pair arrives on the weekend. We haven't let this deter us from what should be a great process. Just make sure you can terminate contracts and have an exit plan in place. And don't rush off to confront Karens without all the details.

as the title suggests, my boyfriend and i were having foreplay and i was looking the other direction while he was playing w my armpit (he has an armpit fetish). i looked over and i saw the phone in his hand he said he was checking the time but i had this bad gut feeling.

my grandmother recently turned 70 and has become an entirely different person in the past year. i’m 18 and the only people i’ve known with alzheimer’s had it severe before i was able to even walk.

Hi everyone, so a little back story. I "25M" met my now girlfriend "31F" about a year ago when I was still in another relationship . My ex girlfriend introduced us to each other because they were friends and my now girlfriend needed a job and I just felt like helping her out as she was going through some financial struggles and she is a single mom of a 5 year old sweet girl. So I made a couple of referrals and she ended up getting a job but the boss didn't like her so I made another one and she ended up working where I worked.
After I broke up with my ex I started seeing my now girlfriend after about 2 months as we had gotten familiar with each other and I was still a bit heartbroken so I wanted to take it slow .....I should mention she is not the reason I broke up with my ex girlfriend. I was going to do that eventually as I had had enough of her. I could write a whole book about her if I wanted to .
Things were good for a while that is until she had to move to another country for permanent relocation.
Now in a normal scenario I would have just let it go there and then but the 7 months I spent with her were amazing. She was everything I ever wanted in a girl and her love and respect towards me was just out of this world . Anyway fast forward 2 months after she left it's like a switch flipped and now she is distant but not cold . If I call her and she picks up we can have a good conversation but if I don't call or text she won't call or text me .
Oh I forgot to mention we are planning on reuniting in just 2 months now before she left we had already discussed it all including my plan to eventually get married to her coz I know it's something I want and I asked her if it would be something she would like and she was very much on board. Now this wasn't a proposal no , it was just the first step leading to a proposal just to know where we both stand in the relationship.
So now my problem is the dwindling communication. I have brought it up before about 2 times and both those times we ended up talking for hours just telling each other how we feel and how we would like to move on but it seems that only gets good for the first 2-3 days and then she goes back to her usual self. She isn't working she just stays at home getting paid by the state to do so . All she does the whole day is taking care of her child. So I can't say she is so busy she can't pick up the phone and just send a simple hi . I like having back and forth conversations even if they don't make any sense 😐 and the thing is we used to have those. When I brought it up she said that she doesn't like staying with her phone because of the content she sees online it stresses her and all that (makes sense because she comes from a war torn country) . So we said that at least we can talk once a day in the evening but even that has stopped and when I call I don't get an answer until the next day in the afternoon. We do have a time difference but if I am putting in all this effort in line with the time zones but I am not getting any reciprocation.
I have to visit her in 2 months now and we have to stay together for a month before I leave again. With how I'm seeing it now, there might be no hope for the next time around so now I'm just contemplating if I should go see her or just ditch the whole thing because if she acts like this when I'm not around and nice when I'm there what will happen after I leave again waiting for the next meeting.
Any advice?

I contemplated sharing all of these since the first two happened so long ago, but they’re eerie enough that I think that they should be shared. I have two stories from when I was young, when I was around age 5-6. Though they were over 20 years ago, the first one I remember vividly and the other occurred later yet I can’t recall that one much at all. However, my mom tells that story like it was yesterday so I’m pretty sure my brain blocked it out or something.
So for context, my mom had me when she was 20 and was a single parent for a while. My father was completely out of the picture, so we lived with her childhood best friend in different apartments when I was young. So one night, it was dark but not extremely late (like 7-8) and I was coloring in the kitchen while my mom was in another room. I vividly remember a knock coming from the sliding glass door only a few feet away from where I was. I turned to see a middle aged man with a sinister smile, pointing at the handle to let him in. I immediately screamed, which scared this guy off, and my mom ran in and called the cops. My mom later told me he was peeping at my her and her best friend for a while but this was the first time I had seen him and that he attempted to come in. Apparently he had left… evidence that he was there a couple of times but I don’t think the cops ever got him. But the rest of the time we lived there, my mom had security from her job (House of Blues) sleep over a lot for protection.
The next encounter is one I don’t remember happening but the story still terrifies me because of what might be out there and how easily these things can happen. It was a different apartment, like a townhouse, but only a few blocks away from where the other thing happened. There was a couple that lived across the street and my mom always got very strange vibes from them. The man would openly stare at me (around age 6) and my mom’s best friend’s niece (who was 11) when she would stay over, which would prompt my mom to angrily yell at him for being creepy for staring at us the way he was, calling him a perv. My mom’s best friend thought she was being paranoid but then at some point, I was playing outside, and that same man lured me over into his apartment with his dog. It didn’t take long for my mom to notice I was gone… it wasn’t even 10 minutes before she ran over to come get me. The couple acted like nothing was wrong and that I just wanted to see their dog but she freaked out on them. When we were home, I told her that he took pictures of me with their dog and she called the cops. They were kicked out but the pictures were never found… which creeps me the hell out to this very day.
The most recent creepy encounter was also with my mom but it was about 6 months ago. I’m still not sure if this was us being paranoid or if we were being followed but it felt wrong. We went to the mall looking for shoes for my wedding and started at Belk. My mom had to use the restroom so I went off on my own and while I was browsing, I got annoyed with this guy wearing a baseball hat because he seemed to be constantly in my way or hovering. It struck me as odd that he kept ending up around me in the women’s shoes section and I got annoyed with him quickly, shooting him a glare that seemed to back him off a bit. The aisles for shoes are short so I noticed him walking toward another man with a newsboy cap on the other side of the section with his arms crossed. I wouldn’t have thought much of it except the two spoke briefly before baseball cap guy made another round through the section. I’m not sure how to put it but they seemed out of place, like almost dirty or something, and I felt weirded out so I pulled out my phone to text my husband and pretended to look busy until my mom came back. She eyed the baseball cap guy lingering around but I felt much safer when she arrived, and I loudly complained a bit about the selection and “surroundings” so we headed somewhere else. We went into a bunch of different stores and when we were on the other side of the mall at an Earthbound (trendy hippie store if you’re unfamiliar), my mom made a loud comment how she kept seeing a guy in the same stores we were in. In the moment, even though I did have a strange feeling, I waved it off to keep browsing since I don’t go to the mall often and wanted to enjoy the day with my mom. She said she must be going crazy when I blew it off but the next store was when my mom’s suspicions grew into a serious full blown anxiety attack. I honestly was still oblivious to this guy but I saw how she was looking around a lot, had us weaving through people and quickly going down aisles. Like I said, I still wasn’t paying attention to the people around us so I bought a couple of things but as soon as I had my bags, my mom yanked me and rushed us out. While we were walking, she grew serious, kept glancing behind us and told me how she didn’t feel right about this guy with a newsboy cap and thought we were being followed. I took a look back for myself and sure enough, the man she described, and I finally recognized him as the same guy I briefly saw in Belk an hour or so ago, just left the same store we did and was walking toward us. He was by himself, looking down, carrying no shopping bags. We ducked into the first store we came across and the employees picked up on our frantic and nervous energy. When asked if we were okay, we told them what was going on and they stood in front of us, hiding us from view and assured us that we were safe. We didn’t see him (or the other guy with the baseball cap) after that but it spooked us to the point where we couldn’t even enjoy our day out anymore so we went home.
This same mall is known to be unsafe and honestly, this whole city is rampant with human trafficking so even though it could have been just paranoia, we anticipated the worst. Interestingly enough, this same mall recently posted a policy that visitors under 18 need to be accompanied by an adult after 4pm on Friday and Saturdays along with safety guidelines on how to stay safe. So there’s that.
Stay alert and aware of your surroundings. Trust your gut. I don’t walk alone without my phone in my hand, and I call someone anytime I’m in a parking lot or gas station. It’s sad but it’s always been hard to ever feel safe when I’m alone.

Ok, so you have to bare with me here. This is kind of a long story. I am a las vegas resident and fully into the larson lore. Chick actually hide giant boobs and tatted all over which was her only redeeming factor. I have a big nose... not larson big but a big nose. Its called a roman nose from being Italian. Why the light sensor in Pixel phones is so badly calibrated? Being at home all the time during the day, the comfortable backlight level is about 75%, filling almost the entire bar, whereas in a Samsung s23 it is about 30%? Is there any way to fix this?

I'm a 22M extreme introvert. When I was a kid, I knew that it's me who has to put work and no one is going to save me, people betray trusts etc so I never really focused on making friends. I was like reading all the time, and I really enjoyed it. I never felt lonely till like before I joined college in 2021.
But past three years have been very tough for me being alone. Some things happened in past, doesn't to which I had a very long depression for 9 years from 2012 to 2020. I solved those issues during covid by myself.
Due to being alone for years, I just could never develop any social skills and personality. I reached out people in my college but it didn't really made any difference. My whole college life, I can't literally term it as a life, it was just, I went to college and I came back home. No college friends.
I see people enjoying events, going to trips together, and here me, using phone all day. I don't really understand how there can be a loneliness epidemic when literally everyone around me seems to having fun and enjoying life(not just in social media, but outside too). Like how anyone can be depressed when you have people to fall back on, spend time with?
How can an extrovert person who has friends be lonely?
Seems like the talk of 'growing depression and anxiety throughout the world is just people making it seem cool to say they are depressed etc'.
No one can understand what I feel as someone who is actually depressed. It's literally impossible for me to even fake a smile. You will see me and will be able to tell that this person is going through anxiety and mental health issues.
Please provide your thoughts and experiences on this. Also tell if you think your are depressed, why do you think you are depressed?
