Slow death, few symptoms

Slow death, few symptoms
Thank you in advance.
I have 2 tanks, parameters as follows- same problem in each tank: 75 gallon: temp 75 F, pH 7, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0. Loaches(zebra, rainbow, skunk, red tail), angelfish, acaras, synodontis, planted. Set up for 7 years, moved several states successfully.
65 gallon: temp 75 F, pH 7, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0. Endlers, rasboras, stiphodon gobies, gudgeon, otocinclus, Cory’s, khuli loaches, horse face loaches, hatchet fish, hill stream loaches, mystery snails, merits snails, planted. Set up for 2 years, was an upgrade from a smaller 20 gallon tank that had been running for 3 years previously.
Each tank recieves a monthly 60% water change, I’ve been doing water changes this way for years, long before the problems began. I treat tap water (Albuquerque NM) with Seachem prime and let it sit in a thoroughly cleaned bathtub before each water change. I make sure the tub is rinsed thoroughly with fresh water beforehand and no chemical cleaners have been recently used.
Between the two tanks over the last year and a half I have lost 2 zebra loaches, 2 skunk loaches, 1 African butterfly, 1 plecostomas, 1 acara, 5-6 Cory’s, 4 khuli loaches, 1 gudgeon, 3 horse face loaches, 3 yoyo loaches, 5 hatchet fish, 4-5 Otto’s, 1 hill stream loach, and several golden barbs(probably old age).
Symptoms: Prevailing symptoms are fish, especially loaches, become skinny then die, usually over several months. The cory’s fins deteriorate before they die. The synodontis is still alive but is often breathing heavily. All fish continue to eat voraciously up until their death, even though they become thin.
I recently added 3 more hatchet fish to the 65 gallon and they all died within 48 hours, followed by a gudegon, 2 khuli loaches, and 2 cories, and a hillstream in the same tank. No apparent symptoms, just dead, not even wasted away this time.
I have suspected parasites and dosed each tank with Prazipro followed by Paragaurd on several occasions, but am unsure if that helps. Currently the remaining zebra(6+ years old) in the 75 gallon is wasting away. The remaining Cory in the 65 gallon (sadly alone now) has deteriorating fins.
I feed a mix of dry foods (flake, sinking, floating) several times a week, depending on the eating habits of respective residents.
Are there any parameters that could cause this I am not controlling for? Should I worry about gH or kH. Would metals.. copper, iron, lead, etc be an issue? Albuquerque water has. Trace amounts of uranium, chromium, and arsenic.
Each tank has a Fluval FX canister with plastic mesh in it for a robust biological cycle. No carbon or chemical resins. I dial back the flow in the tanks a tad to keep strong currents from being an issue, still plenty of flow though. Each tank has an air stone as well.
I also have a 2 gallon planted tank with cherry shrimp, 2 scarlet badis, and 1 stiphodon. No issues in that tank yet. 2 small sponge filter in that tank, same water change regime.
Any advice, or suggestions for new areas of inquiry appreciated.

2024.05.15 04:32 AsanteSamuel33 Macbook air has been one of my worst purchases. What should I do?

Macbook air M2 15 inch 8 GB RAM has been an absolute disaster for me.
I bought it because my school was giving us a free ipad, so i thought I could use a mac instead of windows to have a dual monitor set up. Safe to say that itself has been a disaster with the screen mirroring capability constantly bugging out making it unusable. No problem I said, I will just use my laptop alone and maybe purchase a real second monitor in the future.
Then, I began dealing with the slowest loading times when using my browser, after some research, learned that it is due to chrome. Ok, weird a brand new device cant handle chrome, but no problem, I will now only use safari despite disliking it.
After a while, I began to have a glitch where I could not click any buttons when attempting to save or upload documents like a microsoft word document, unable to add files to emails, open old documents, etc. Takes like 30 minutes of relaunching finder, reloading the laptop, etc, until it decides to let me go through finder only for minutes before the problem sometimes comes back. Now I am getting frustrated, this is something I could do in 2005 without issues.
Then, when things could not be going worse, I begin to have messages pop up every couple of minutes saying “Your system has run out of application memory”.
I literally only use this device for microsoft word, safari, and Anki (a flashcard app). I think an old PC from 2010 could run this better. And everyone will say I got the garbage option from apple with the 8 GB RAM, the cheapest of the line they had to offer, and I get that. I did that knowing I would use very few apps and that any piece of garbage should be able to handle it. But not this thing, still at a price tag of 1.2k.
So now, I dont know what to do. I can trade it in for $720… should I try and upgrade, or do the better versions still have all these issues?
Or should I just call it a day, and purchase a microsoft surface laptop (my old device was the microsoft surface book, which seemed to work better than my current device. On that old device I got in 2016, I could run many things at once, use anki, play pretty heavy games like EU4 on steam, etc., and that was less expensive (1k) and purchased 8 years before this one)
In fairness - some pros of the device are how lightweight it is, how nice it looks, and how long it can hold a charge, its very impressive, but these faults mentioned above hurt way more than these pros help.

Just bought a house with a pool. Where do I start?
So me and my husband just bought a house with a pool and I’ve been trying to piece together more about what we have and what we need to do.
What I’ve gathered so far:
Hayward Tristar VS 900 pump Hayward Cartridge Filter Diverter Valve for the Outlets Inline Chlorinator
What I’m having issues with is: I’m getting air somewhere in my lines, my pump keeps priming itself, air bubbles are coming out of the outlets, and I can hear almost a hissing noise coming from the filter housing.
When priming, I’m opening the skimmer basket filling it with water, opening the pressure valve on the filter housing and waiting for water to come out and then closing it.
Any idea what to try next?

2024.05.15 04:15 Gldfsh_vinillaCronch Chapter sixteen

~Neptori~
A party was indeed hosted, set up to surround the burning mass of grass that the second creature had been hidden inside, the two severed heads spiked on massive rose thorns high above the half acre of angry flame were eyeless and toothless. Trophies for the queen’s pet Faeries and Fairies.
Tori was half certain she had seen a demon amongst the deadly, fake-friendly, party goers. His eyes didn’t just reflect the fire, they were made from fire. Sparks flew and skittered over his high cheekbones as they made eye contact in passing. A chill went down her spine, a warning and a threat.
She followed quickly after the queen, her gown had been replaced with a shorter gown resembling a white iris flower, the shoes of course matching to look like the stem. High, high heels that didn’t even touch the ground. They hovered over the ground as she fluttered her wings to stay just above her people. A subtle band of wild roses sat on her brow, Neptori only wondered about the thorns and how a flower could be so pale and yet so brightly yellow. Fluffy and tiny, the roses faintly resembled the clouds as the sun fell to make way for darkness in night.
Someone, at some point, had made sunflowers grow twice as tall as they were. They lined the main scenes of the party, their strong, velvety leaves bore golden, burning lanterns. An ashy pink smoke filtered flower shaped holes in the circular… those weren’t lanterns- fairies were nocturnal! Those were burning herbs, were they to keep predators away from the party or to heighten the pixie magic warping the sizes of everything. She took a light whiff taking in the earthy smell, the note of citrine and then the smell of honey fresh from a beehive… she suddenly felt very light. Shaking her head to shake the feeling, she finally caught up to the queen's side. Wings would have been entirely advantageous in this situation, Tori would have to do with waiting till the queen had settled on her throne at hearing distance.
Around and around the party they went, Tori being shown off like a prized pony. The queen didn’t seem to be too hated by her people, it was strange that she had said so earlier. Neptori pinched her brow trying to keep her thoughts from derailing. No, play by her rules and she will have to let Tori go. That’s what she would have to do. So around and around she went some more. Fairies drenched her in new garments. As they were the fashion capital of the realm, they were exceedingly horrified by a poor woman’s rags. Neptori accepted their gifts, too afraid to offend to deny the strange things they put on her. Her coat had been torn from her at some point, her trousers had been replaced with a purple petticoat and a pink pearl corset. Her boots were gone and her feet cried out in pain as she felt the dirt and clovers underfoot. As her toes dug into the soft heaven that was nature. A giggle escaped her, a scraggly cry really. It hurt but it was amazing. She couldn’t remember the last time she had taken her boots off. Her smell was ripe and rank but she didn’t care, her toes weren’t cramped up!
she turned to see if the queen could see- but there was nobody. Just an empty field and those burning herbs finally burning up. The smoke was so thin it fell in scraggly whisps. The morning air seemed too crisp and clean and untamed. She burst into a sprint down the path of trampled grasses. Strange flowers and shrubs had grown underfoot but they were walked all over by what must’ve been an enormous crowd. Then a light, brighter than the awakening blue overhead, the sun. The first rays yawned over the land, sending a golden and blue contrast into the world. She had never felt so at peace. So at one with her surroundings. Her face was numb and cold with it, or maybe the reverse but she was only paying attention to the awakening surrounding her.
The bees and birds and the fairies… everyone began to stir awake as slowly as if time was blinking awake with them. She just stared with watering eyes, taking in the magic that thickened in the air. The scent of apple blossoms washing over her as the land was engulfed in golden hues of every color. Then it was green. The sky was alive with fluffy white clouds, scattered across that simple barrier of blue. It was all so beautiful and it thrummed around her, in her veins it pulsed.
Everything just felt so right, then a shadow fell around her. She turned her surely very glassy eyes to find the queen standing a wreck before her. “There you are pet.” She said with a crooked grin. Her eyes were bright red and brought out the earthy green hues within her irises. Her iris party dress was limp and her band of fluffy yellow roses was gone.
“Wha- “What happened?” Neptori cried out as her knees came crashing down to the dirt and rocks and ashes and… what had happened? “Your very first fairy party it seems.” She waved a hand and the perfect scene made way for the glowing petal walls of the fairy palace.

2024.05.15 04:14 Wolfinked Betta Sickness????

Betta Sickness????
So recently my betta, a black orchid crowntail, has gotten a fully silk planted setup. I basically just added more plants and more rests since then.
But it seems like my betta is kind of struggling recently? He rests quite a lot, under the filter where it's dark is his favorite spot. Sometimes on the leaves of the tank and very occasionally inside the feeding gazebo. But I sometimes don't see him anywhere and I found out he's actually hiding in the undergrowth where the bottom of the silk plants are.
This started around a few days ago but I only noticed it becoming more and more severe recently.
When he moves mid-air (mid water I guess) it's a movement unlike any other I've seen in my previous shorter tailed bettas, where his hind fins are moving as he tries to stay up in the water. Like his fins are causing him to over exert himself.
His front fins are also flapping constantly if he's in the water not resting, and he appears to breathe with deep gulping breaths.
When I got him his fins originally weren't that long and they were more sparse, but as he settled into the tank about a month ago his fins have grown a whole lot and gained a ton of color.
Despite his dark scales he also appears to have 2 darker horizontal stripes going longways?
What should I do? Is this normal crown tail behavior? Do you think it's some kind of illness? He's been flaring at himself a lot, could that be it?
More photos in comments.

2024.05.15 03:56 AntiFascist_Waffle Does regular testing make sense for me?

I’m looking at getting some more COVID tests and am trying to determine if it makes sense to add a weekly test as a layer of protection.
I live alone and wear an N95 mask pretty diligently, attending a few high risk events per month (mostly work-related, although sometimes I can bring my HEPA filter). My long-distance partner, who also wears N95s daily, comes to visit (or sometimes vice versa) monthly, usually via air travel. I’ve never had COVID as far as I know, am up to date on vaccines, and don’t have any known risk factors for serious illness.
While I see some benefit in catching asymptomatic infections, I’m not sure if this is enough benefit to justify investing in a bunch of unreliable rapid tests or pricey home PCR tests. The alternative is planning for a more targeted approach, like testing prior to my partner visiting and after high risk events in addition to having symptoms.
What are your thoughts?

2024.05.15 03:52 Exciting_Artichoke_ Engine Starting Problem

Hey y’all, I just got back from college where I rebuilt my carbs in my dorm room and I just started putting my bike (1975 Honda CB 750F) back together hoping to start riding again soon, but the bike does not seem to want to start. It turns over good and started up briefly a couple of times but does not seem to want to run. Compression: Although I haven’t formally tested the compression, the engine has run for me before and I see no reason that it would have lost compression. Fuel: When it ran the two times it started, it died after about 20 seconds. Figured this was fuel starvation so I cleaned out the petcock (which was clogged) and then checked each carb and all four seem to be getting fuel. The carbs are bench synced (not vacuum since this requires a running engine) and the air screws are one turn out. Spark: I just replaced the old ignition coils with new ones because the last time it was running, it was dying after about 10-20 min of riding and I think it might have been overheating coils. Regardless, I pulled out each plug and checked for spark and they were all good. Air: the air box has a relatively new air filter and is clean. The intake books aren’t in great condition and don’t seal entirely properly with the box. Im sure there is an intake leak here and I intend to address it soon, but I cant imagine it would stop the engine from starting.
Im moderately new to diagnosing engine problems so any help/advice would be much appreciated. Also sorry that this is a long read, but I figured I would give the most amount of relevant information as possible. Thanks!

2024.05.15 03:46 Saimon_blues Under Sink Reverse Osmosis Water Filter

Hello, I am seeking a Reverse Osmosis under Sink Water Filter. One handyman bought a GE Under Sink 5 Stage Premium Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System. It leaks through the drinking faucet's air gap and looking at the review, I have a bad system. Planning to return it to Home Depot and get a new APEC ROES-50 - Essence 5-stage 50 GPD Reverse Osmosis Water System for Drinking Water. I have some queries:
  1. APEC ROES-50 looks highly rated on all sites. But some people complained about the water wastage. So who rated 4 or 5 starts happy with the water wastage?
  2. Is getting a tankless one will help? Any recommendation?
  3. Going to get a quote from Culligan and ECO Systems of Costco. But from what I heard they are way too expensive. Then why still people buy them?
Really confused should I go for APEC or Tankless? Also what Culligan and ECO Systems of Costco has to offer?
Any real experience will be appreciated.

2024.05.15 03:41 azter2 Average 28,7 miles per gallon.

Hello everyone, recently I noticed that my 2014 Mazda 3 has started to consume too much fuel, averaging 28.7 miles per gallon. I came here and read that many people are getting 36 to 40 miles per gallon on the highway. The funny thing is that lately I've been mostly driving on the highway. A friend of mine suggested me that I need to change the air filter and spark plugs, but I decided to ask you since I'm sure you have experience with this. Thanks to everyone for the help.

2024.05.15 03:36 Terrible-Ad2076 Had the roughest call of the year so far

I scheduled this initial call for 12pm about a week ago and told the office it was gonna be a 2 man job. Mostly because we had 3 acs that needed repairs (2 low on charge, needed new caps, rooftop units and the 3rd had a high voltage issue). The office got me and another guy on the schedule ans I ordered the parts out. Not only did I end up getting more calls put on me before i headed over but i got a few parts missing (PCO lennox filter kits) AND the 2nd guy I was supposed to work with got 2 calls put on him about 30 miles away.. so I ended up by myself, starting 3 hrs later than scheduled and I was short on parts.
It ended up being an Air handler in the attic, other two were in a crawlspace and a basement. I had to climb up two rickety ladders about 20 times to go through the attic to a roof hatch carrying my tools and turning off breakers and such, fixed one homemade ladder that was in place cause it broke, had to call a guy and have him drive 1 hr to get the filter kits and the cap AFTERHOURS at the supply house cause i got sent the wrong parts initially and i only had 1 of the correct caps on my truck. I then charged both roof top units with nearly 4 lbs of charge (customer wanted to reduce costs with a gas and go), and still got flack that it was gonna cost him $2800 cause it "seemed" too expensive.
Yeah.. 10 total labor hours including my initial visit that took 3 hrs to tune up/diag everything and over $1500,in parts for $2800 is expensive..
The kicker is the guy is a working surgeon at a local hospital and his wife is an architect lol.
TLDR; scheduling got messed up, parts got messed up, customer was difficult, I got home late, we have to go back to get the right filters in + get an electrician out to the 3rd ac and this is the best job I've ever had.

2024.05.15 03:35 Python_Child Honda lawnmower won’t start after I replaced the transmission belt. Barely can pull half the time. White smoke comes out of exhaust and filter when cranking. Is it because of oil going to the cylinder? Air filter seems to be covered in oil. If so, what do I do to clear it up. Much appreciated

2024.05.15 03:33 CapableIncome9901 New Honda owner in need of tips

I recently bought a ‘95 Honda Accord LX and I’d like to bring it back to 100 HP before I put too many miles on it. It has never been in an accident, and it has the original motor and transmission with only 110,000 miles. It drives great in the city and on the highway, but it sometimes struggles to start in the mornings, and it’s breaks are just a little squeaky. I’m sure that changing the oil, oil filter, air filter, and the spark plugs would all be a good idea, but other than that I’m not sure what else I could do to make sure that the car is 100% in good working order. After that, I’d like to make it faster, but I have not a clue how to start doing that. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

2024.05.15 03:26 Makeorbake1004 Cat coughs/allergies

I've been living in a new apartment for about 2 weeks and just yesterday my cat started coughing/sneezing constantly. I had never seen him do it so I took him to the emergency vet only to find out it's something in my apartment as it went completely away while at the vet. Has anyone else experienced something similar? What did you do? I've replaced my air filter, bought an air purifier, and a fan and it doesn't seem to be helping. The only thing I thought of was that maybe the moldy bread I threw away was releasing spores so I just took the trash out. For context I have 2 cats and only one is experiencing this.

2024.05.15 03:19 bonnebonn Smell burning in the house

Hi everyone. We bought our single house last year which was built in 2017. Our furnaces including heater and AC are on the attic.
Whole day I smell of burning air when we turn on the AC (mostly 74 or 75•F). The air isn't fresh at all, hard to describe but it smells like smoke sometimes (not electric burn). I've already checked and cleaned all the air filter in the house, nothing change.
I need your all advice how to get rid of it cause I got kid at home. Appreciate all your help.

2024.05.15 03:17 BB_Captain Where do I get replacement seals for this briggs and stratton carburetor?

Where do I get replacement seals for this briggs and stratton carburetor?
Im trying to learn about small engine repair as a new hobby, so today I picked up a free troy bilt 21" mower with a briggs and stratton 190 cc engine on it. Somewhere along the line the previous owner lost the air filter cover and the air filter, but just kept right on using the lawn mower without them for who knows how long. So as one would expect, the carburetor was a filthy mess inside and out. I took it off and apart and cleaned it, but the original black seal/gasket and the o-ring seal for the bowl are toast.
So where does one go to get these parts? Do smaller local hardware stores, Lowes, or home depot carry these types of parts or is this some stuff I'm probably going to have to order off the internet? If it is something I have to order can you more experienced repair people point me in the direction of where to get the parts?
Thank you in advance!

2024.05.15 03:08 kompei54 Origami King Legion of Stationery (Japanese version) info

As a Japanese, I heard that the English version of Paper Mario Origami King has different translation, so I'll put the JP retranslation here for someone's future convinience.
In the Japanese version, the gender of all Legion of Stationery are unknown. For convinience, I will refer to all of them as "he".
Colored Pencils: Missile Artist. He speaks with a pronoun of "Me" and puts "zansu" at the end of most sentences. This is an overly stereotypical way for artist or rich characters to speak. Before exploding, he claims that art is an explosion. (Famous quote by artist Taro Okamoto)
Rubber Band: Rubbery Entertainer. He speaks with a pronoun of "Watakushi" and puts "yon" at the end of most sentences. "Watakushi" is a formal pronoun that is mostly used in business settings, but for fictional characters, some overly arrogant ones use this pronoun. The "yon" comes from the onomatopoeia "biyo-n" (EN: stretch/stretchy).
Hole Punch: Groovy Hole-Punching Freak. He speaks with a pronoun of "Orecchi" and speaks like a young man. "Orecchi" is mostly used for young man that has an extrovert attitude, but this pronoun is mostly only used in fiction, and almost nobody uses it in real life. (Side note: The way how the sun is hiding and has to be pulled out by dancing in front of the hideout is likely a reference to Amaterasu's famous tale.)
Tape: Show-off Sticker. He also uses "Orecchi", but speaks a lot more agressively. His attitude is a lot like the Bousouzoku, a motorcycle gang that is consisted of middle school to college children. (...and is outdated nowadays. The Bousouzoku disappeared in about 2005.) His uses all kanji in words such as "yoroshiku" and "harimakuri", a typical Bousouzoku trope. He performs a wheelie on his bike (tape dispenser) as well, also a typical Bousouzoku trope. At the end, he begs to be helped by Olly, but explodes after realizing he will die. (Side note: The part of the tape that is sticking out in the air is likely a reference to stereotypical Bousouzoku/Yakuza hair.)
Scissors: Snipping Maniac. He has the largest translation difference. He speaks with a pronoun of "Boku", and talks like a normal man, but his attitude is more of a child. "Boku" is a normal pronoun that is used mostly by young men. He refers the Paper Mistake Buzzy Beetle as a "toy", and speaks a lot about "playing". He does play around when he puts on the cover, jokingly stating how it is "safe" now with the cover on. While his playful manner is present during the entire battle, his speech becomes a lot more arrogant and aggressive after he pulls the cover off. Overall, he is a literal maniac.
Stapler: The King's Watchdog. Similar to the english version, Stapler can't speak and only barks.

2024.05.15 03:06 Makeorbake1004 Cat coughs/allergies

I've been living in a new apartment for about 2 weeks and just yesterday my cat started coughing/sneezing constantly. I had never seen him do it so I took him to the emergency vet only to find out it's something in my apartment as it went completely away while at the vet. Has anyone else experienced something similar? What did you do? I've replaced my air filter, bought an air purifier, and a fan and it doesn't seem to be helping. The only thing I thought of was that maybe the moldy bread I threw away was releasing spores so I just took the trash out. For context I have 2 cats and only one is experiencing this.
